Team Dramabeans: What we’re watching

Checking in for another weekend wrap-up! It feels like it’s been the longest week ever, and I can’t figure out if keeping track of all of the dramas ever is what makes it feel so long, or if having lots of hours of drama goodness helps make the time fly by. Well, in either case I suppose I count myself lucky; there are worse ways to spend a week! –javabeans

Currently recapping: Seven Day Queen
Circle: I love how each character’s desperation and yearning grows deeper the closer we get to uncovering the truth, and that it brings together people who might otherwise never see eye to eye, like Joon-hyuk and Ho-soo. When Ho-soo became the voice urging them to press on, and asked to return his memories if his sacrifice resulted in their erasure, it was such a lovely thematic way to come full circle (ahem) with his character. As for that cliffhanger, I’m dyyyying to find out if they finally find Woo-jin, but also a little scared on behalf of his loved ones what revelations that might yield.
Father Is Strange: For the first time ever, I’m enjoying the clashes between a bride and her shrill, fussy mother-in-law. Unni is so self-possessed and capable (with an impish side that relishes winning) that it’s hilarious to see her mother-in-law flailing to try to get the upper hand, only she never will because her daughter-in-law will always outsmart her. Maybe it’s because it’s all done in a good-natured way that I find this funny and not upsetting. Meanwhile, I hate that Joong-hee is going through such ultimately needless anguish over his fauxcest crisis, but his ensuing effort to get close to his father and brother did give us a rewarding bit of male bonding.
The Best Hit: I groaned a little when it was revealed that Woo-seung’s hidden talent was an undeveloped knack for songwriting, because that falls so neatly in line with our current world of idols and agencies. It’s so convenient. But I’ll put aside that minor complaint because it does provide a glimmer of hope that the rooftop bunch can still find success in their dreams—not exactly the way they imagined, but maybe in an even more rewarding way.
Suspicious Partner: I was dying for our team to catch the killer because he seemed so smug and it seemed so unlikely given his cleanly covered tracks. But then he got attacked by someone who probably wronged him badly in the past and never paid for it, and now I’m feeling all sorts of indignation on his behalf, even though yes, he’d killed a bunch of people and is planning on killing more. I almost want our lawyers to help the killer achieve his revenge first and then turn him over for his punishment, because knowing what’s driving him makes it feel unfair for that other bad guy to be out running free.
Lookout: I initially expected our Lookouts to be a team of damaged people who would unite in purpose and become a heartwarming surrogate family. That’s sort of true for our core three teammates, but I find it unexpectedly satisfying to see the tension between them and the Boss, and how they aren’t automatically on the same page even if they’ve been working together all this time. The grudging teamwork keeps things tense, in a good way.
Woman of Dignity: Okay, I think I get what this show is going for now—I wasn’t necessarily drawn by the plot, but curiosity over the tone is what had me tuning in. And oddly, though it may be uneven in places, I do like the deadpan sense of humor and the ridiculous characters—they aren’t absurd by being over-the-top, but they definitely feel absurd. Kim Sun-ah for sure isn’t playing a funny character, but I did find humor in how she worked the family with her bumpkin-y cover. I can’t say I really care about the whodunnit, but if I keep watching it’ll be for the tone, which I find dry and potentially acidic.
My Sassy Girl: I was prepared for more serious turns, since rom-coms often shift from heavily comedic to more melodramatic as the show wears on, but I find myself wishing the shift weren’t quite so extreme—that it were less outlandish in the beginning, and less straight now. Just as it found a sense of emotional grounding (which I appreciate), it completely lost its sense of humor. I like the characters more now than I did at the start, but the drama feels like it has become more generic, and lost what made it its own thing. I miss the stupid-funny!
Fight My Way: Well, finally! I know I said I would love to see this couple being friends for a while, but I actually think they left the friend zone a long time ago and have been dancing around in the romance zone without actually doing anything about it, and that frustrated me. I still really dislike the second couple storyline even though I think they’re both decent people who care about each other and deserve good things. I just don’t really care to see this relationship play out, because I keep thinking they should just break up, figure things out, and then decide whether they want to get back together. Offscreen.

Currently recapping: Seven Day Queen
Duel: Eep, more clones?! I definitely like where this is going, namely that I don’t know how many versions of this guy there are walking around, or who the original one was. All I know is, when our clone started to have memories from a past he couldn’t have been alive for, I went from casually watching to going, Gimme more episodes!
Fight My Way: This drama just makes me happy. Why is it that every time this hero says things like “I want to hold your hand” or “I want to kiss you,” it makes me more fluttery than the actual handholding or kissing? Oh and I really love gruff, overprotective Dad, all tatted up and willing to go to the ends of the earth to cheer on his daughter. He’s the best.
Circle: I’ve been preparing myself for the possibility that the brothers will never reunite in the future timeline, but now that we’re closing in on the final week and everything has been building towards this moment, I can’t contain my expectations anymore and will be so disappointed if I don’t get an epic reunion. I’m scared! What if it isn’t awesome?
Suspicious Partner: I almost wanted the team to suffer a death in order to really raise the stakes, because I’m not that invested in the mystery/killer portion of this drama. But I really do adore the lawyer Scooby Gang, and the happy moments they shared this week were pretty great. And hey, if it takes a happy team to allow for date night and other romancey developments, I vote for a happy team.
Lookout: The backstory I’ve been waiting for finally came this week, and I was not disappointed. It only made me more curious about the prosecutor and the priest, whose broken bromance makes me instantly more invested in their story. Now that the Avengers have finally assembled (in their hostile, double-crossing way), I hope to really dig into everyone’s pasts and watch them turn into a little family of their own.
The Best Hit: I’m super excited by the possibility that our rooftop sadsacks could band together through music. I hope that’s what’s in store (are there enough episodes for that?), because while the hijinks are awesome, that would truly make my day.

Forest of Secrets: In two weeks, Forest has officially become my favorite amongst all the currently airing shows. For a drama about a hero who can’t feel emotion, it certainly packs a wallop in the pathos department, and the quality is just out of this world on all fronts. The character work both Jo Seung-woo and Bae Doo-na are doing is phenomenal, and the overall mystery is actually mysterious and super compelling. I’m so lucky I’m watching this as it airs, otherwise I’d lose a whole lot of sleep.
My Sassy Girl: So the overall plot and pacing has improved, not quite enough to be compelling, but we’re at a better place than when we started. But the thing that’s getting to me the most is Joo-won, because I’ve seen him be absolutely brilliant before. I’m not getting much from him here, and I’m wondering if it’s because he’s got so little to work with as Gyun Woo. Sure, he’s rational and principled, but what else? His scenes are mostly just of him looking passively as action happens around him, which is just a shame, since he’s such an excellent talent and we’re about to lose him for two years. Maybe when he comes back, he’ll pick better projects.
Woman of Dignity: Now this is a curious case, because I had close to a flat-out negative reaction to the first two episodes. If it’s trying to be meta and satirical, I don’t see it. If it’s trying to be dead serious as something-like-but-not-necessarily-a-makjang, I guess I see it, but even weekend makjangs know what strings to pull to get you invested, whether for good or ill. I’m willing to give some leeway because of the director and Kim Sun-ah’s performance, but so far, meh.
Circle: Bravo to the show for perfectly executing the moment where Woo-jin saw the direct effects of the memory-altering technology. That look he gave Bum-gyun when Bum-gyun was at his purest and most joyful encapsulated every conflict the show has presented so far with its moral gray areas, enough for me to wonder if the technology would be so bad if people had the free will only to use it on themselves. Is it an all-or-nothing scenario, or can there be a middle ground? (And am I a terrible person for asking that?)

Currently recapping: Duel
Super Family 2017: On the one hand, I love every time they manage to get in a silly reference to Park Hyuk-kwon playing Gil Tae-mi. The meta on this show is so delightful and ridiculous. On the other hand, why does a sitcom make me cry more than a standard tear-jerker?!?!? The moment Chun-il began to sob, I suddenly started to tear up, and the tears didn’t stop until after the episode was over. How will Chun-il and I manage without the calm reassurance of Manager Choi each week?
The Best Hit: Woo-seung is my hero. It’s a mystery to me how she gets through each day while dealing with the ridiculousness of a clueless time-traveling pop-star on top of everything else, but I envy her strength of character. I also wouldn’t mind the accompanying crush from cutie Ji-hoon, just sayin’.

Currently recapping: Circle
Fight My Way: I squeal too much for this drama. I love how the main loveline is not necessarily based on an instant attraction that cannot be explained, but rather a slow deepening connection that resulted from years of support and friendship. The way Ae-ra and Dong-man are rediscovering each other all over again as potential mates is so cute because they’re so awkward and real-life about it. I have revised my opinion about Joo-man. He’s poop. If his aspirations in life are to be a show-off about his success, that’s completely fine, but abandoning his 6+ years solid, steady girlfriend to do so without even talking about it, that’s not okay. He’s being a coward for lying to her about the new intern girl, and he’s also being a bad partner by not taking an active role in making Seol-hee feel secure in their relationship.

Circle: Man, this show sure knows how to do cliffhangers, and I can’t tell whether I love it or hate it. I knew the hour was coming up on Tuesday’s episode and I was willing for it to just go on a couple more seconds to reveal maybe-maybe-not future Woo-jin (it’d better be him, Show). It’s a strong lead into finale week, and I look forward to the bad guys getting their comeuppance and our twins reuniting (hopefully, please, I beg you), though I am torn that we only get two more episodes.
Seven Day Queen: So Yeonsangun KNEW that toady minister ordered his brother’s assassination all those years ago!? Eugh, you can go join Yeok in that corner, and preferably work it out before coming back to jointly grovel in front of Chae-kyung. I get why the brothers are both acting like they are, but I know they both have it in them to do the right thing, and the fact that they’re choosing not to is so aggravating. I love that Chae-kyung and her father are essentially their moral compasses, and I hope her suffering doesn’t last too long ‘cause it hurts to watch.
Suspicious Partner: Ohthankgod, I would’ve been so, so upset if Chief Bang had really ended up dead. Otherwise, I kinda wish our second lead prosecutor was smarter, because I’m nervous having her try to out-wile our murderous maniac. It’s unlikely to happen, and meanwhile he goes free to target the rest of our favorite ragtag gang of lawyers.
Forest of Secrets: Lol, this show is awesome in terms of quality, but I just can’t help but laugh at the amount of sass our emotionless prosecutor is just throwing out. I’m not even sure it’s intentional, which makes it even funnier. Oh man, I never expected to giggle so much at a legal thriller this serious.
Woman of Dignity: What a weird show. Each character feels like they’re living in a different genre, and it’s kind of disorienting. I can’t tell whether I like it or not yet. Also, is it bad that I’m not hating Jung Sang-hoon’s character in this, cheating and all? He’s just so horribly dense and simple, and coupled with those caterpillars for eyebrows, I can’t take him seriously enough to dislike him, even when he’s a philandering bastard.
New Journey to the West 4: Yaassss, the boys are back!! I love this group of manchildren to death, and I can’t wait to see more of them goofing around Vietnam. Also, I died in the first episode when Ho-dong repeated Ji-won’s name nearly 200 times during their buffet game. I’m saving that clip for rainy days when I need a quick laugh.

In my opinion ,Fight my way and suspicious partner are really two good dramas to watch nowadays !! Also , father is strange is sooo heartwarming im really enjoying every episode !!

I actually thought father is strange would be a makjang drama but its so hardwarming i find myself looking for the drama once it airs !! The warmth the family brings to lee joon ( aka jeong hee ) is just great !!

Add me to the Father is Strange fans! I thought the show might fall apart after that beyond-awkward kiss scene but the writers redeemed themselves last week with that half-door scene alone.

I wasn't so frustrated for yoo ju in FIS last week. Her work colleagues are horrible! One is eyeing her job and they all make her feel like she's a burden even whenever they supposedly show concern, not to mention making decisions for her without consulting her. I totally get her frustration. Is work life in Korea that terrible for a pregnant woman?

I felt so bad for YJ. I read somewhere that only like 1/3 of korean women go back to work after maternity leave. Even if the companies aren't kicking women out of their jobs, the social conditions make it difficult for pregnant ladies to stay at their jobs.
YJ loves being a working woman and I think her broken family background lends to a belief that she should be working to support herself and to depend on no man to support her - which opened her to dating and marrying Joon-young and being so happy to do so. The company and her colleagues are horrible in that they're passive aggressively trying to drive her out (with their "concern") so they don't have to deal with the larger issue of making their workplace less hostile and discriminatory to women. It is freaking condescending. And that subordinate of hers - wait till she becomes pregnant! But then maybe she'd be perfectly fine giving up her job and raising some old rich guy's baby.
t was disgusting of that subordinate who took advantafe of YJ's desperation to keep doing what she loves and
I feel like it must be. It is more conventional in Korean society for women to take care of the home and family while the husband goes to work.

Since i'm a sucker for friendship and crime dramas my fav shows right now are : Lookout, The Best Hit and Secret Forest. I recommend these to anyone who has similar tastes to mine ;)

I have been squealing and hyperventilating all week.
Squealing because of:
- Fight My Way and Suspicious Partner
And hyperventilating because of Circle . This show is so so good, and I can't believe it's almost over :(
- I'm a little behind on The Best Hit, but I can't wait to tune back in with my favorite time-travelling idol and his antics.
And finally...I'm going to start Forest of Secrets this weekend, which I've been dying to see. I've only heard good things about it so far, what say you Beanies?

PLEASE watch Forest of Secrets. It is actually really thoughtful and compelling, in spite of (or perhaps also because of) its flat colour scheme. I feel like this is also one of those underrated gems like Tunnel that people will finally pick up after it's done. And that's fine too, but I think it's even better if you watch it on real time because the pacing and suspense works with that.

Agree. I don't diligently watch all the currently airing dramas except for Forest of Secrets. It's an amazing dramas; well directed - well written - well acted. I'm hooked!

I'm kinda getting bored of Suspicious Partner. I know it's only me but I am not getting the awesomeness of I remember you from it. The intelligent plot, smart mind boggling directing, amazing cinematography, creative music and the best acting are the points which made I remember you unforgettable. I'm sorry but the only thing I like about SP is HS's role as the psychopath.

I'm totally with you in there!
At the beginning the writer makes me so excited, it's flawed but interesting the first few eps. But now...everything is just, dull. The mystery is so lackluster, all law enforcer is just stupid, the villain is interesting but still meh. It gets so draggy. Even the otp doesn't excite me. The last ep when Nara searched for evidence, barged into HS's house, without gloves and turn the house upside down, then just leave the house like that when HS ran away? That's my last straw.
I still can't believe this is from IRY's writer :(

It becomes boring when the same scenes you have seen numerous times earlier. Actors change but characters remain almost same. name change, location change, bit of modified story and merge 5-6 different characters personalities, steal some stuff from earlier shows, steal some other stuff from online fanfictions and mint the money. Pretty similar to Porn. I think it is direct disrespect shown towards audience as well as treating actors as some c grade product.

I definitely agree, and personally I don't even rate I Remember You as highly as you do. I do really like Dong Ha as Hyun Soo (I wish he was half as interesting as Park Bo Gum's character in IRY though) but the writing in SP is lazy and too familiar (with a very awkward mash up between thriller/rom-com). I dropped it a few weeks ago because it had become a chore to watch and I'm not really that invested in the characters, let alone the storyline.

I am not watching Suspicious Partner but I did watch IRY and my opinion runs contrary to many beanies who love the show. While I somewhat like the show, I found it lacking towards the end. Plot holes and flaws became more glaring so I didn't have a good impression of the writing overall although I think the premise was very interesting. The cast had Choi Won Young and Park Bo Gum who gave wonderful performances as the psychopaths. They were probably the the reason why I watched to the end.

I agree, I found it lacking but somehow stuck with it to the end. IRY could have done with being alot shorter tbh. It lost steam and tension in its climax. In an ideal world I think the central narrative would have made an excellent 10 episode series (like jdrama length) or even a more focussed movie. IRY was certainly better executed than SP even though neither are as tightly written as they could be. The darker elements of IRY were alot more compelling than SP's imo - and the tonal whiplash of SP is too much for me.

Lol. I'm only watching Suspicious Partner and am loving it. If anything, I think the pacing and the humor is just right. It does a good job with balancing more than 1 genre - and that's good for someone like me that's watched a lot of kdramas. Luckily there's something for everyone in dramaland.

Haha, I've always been more of a lover than a critic, especially for dramas. And, for me, there are just so many enjoyable elements about this show that I'm never bored at all. So you're definitely not alone! I love all the interactions between the leads and the gang of lawyers and actually feel more connection to them than I do to certain characters in more "realistic" shows like Fight My Way.
So I'm surprised at the overall "meh" feeling that some people are getting, despite the fact that I agree with it being a flawed series in certain respects. But this is partially because I agree with @outofthisworld above that I Remember You had some blips as well. Funnily enough, I think IRY's directing compensates for some weaknesses and makes everything come together with a certain finesse that had me not noticing its flaws as much, but also dwelling on them quite a bit whenever I did. So while I get the comparison to I Remember You is unavoidable, I guess Suspicious Partner has always had its own...sort of slap-dash, off-the-wall charm that makes it both easier for me to notice its flaws, but also accept them? It's super weird.
Ultimately, I think I'm just having a lot of fun with Suspicious Partner, even though it suffers from some issues. For example, our rag-tag group of lawyers actually kind of KNOW how much they suck at their jobs and I find that somewhat hilarious. I've always loved this writer more for her refreshing characters and their dialogue. I just enjoy the antics between them so much! Beyond that, I love her compelling villains and the more psychological, philosophical aspects to her writing. That's always what I've cared the most about, partially because I rarely expect legal aspects or police-work to be too impressive, especially in a drama that has such a rom-com bent.
That said, I guess I can see how those not invested in the romance or enjoying the workplace antics would find this show lacking in comparison to IRY. I just love it to bits though :)

Real talk: I know I'm always proselytizing about Forest of Secrets but as someone who loved I Remember You deeply, I honestly feel like Forest of Secrets is a spiritual successor of it. The emotionally muted detective, the mystery that respects the audience's mental capacity, the awesome female lead, and the heart and empathy for human follies. Everything. If you liked I Remember You, I highly recommend Forest of Secrets.

You're not alone, nowadays when I watch it on weekends, I find myself fast forwarding to scenes with EH, Chief Bang or when the lawyer gang are conplete. Or I wait for recaps before watching it so I' d know to which scenes I fast forward to. Had to recheck that the writer is really IRY's writer.

I still really like it, though I'll admit that it's been losing its shine. It was a crack drama for me in the beginning. I feel like the pace has slowed in recent episodes and wished this was a 16 episode drama instead of a 20 episode one and just take out the thing about the dads. I was more in it for Bong Hee (so full of fighting spirit in the first third of the series), but I feel like she's recently been sidelined for JW (though this did allow JCW to give some amazing performances).

That's the exact reason I've been feeling disillusioned with it, I signed up for a show with Bong Hee as the principle character, the main lead with Ji Wook as her love interest, and following her story and perspective. But as many dramas do, they change perspective to the male character after focusing on the girl for about 1/4 of the drama. The romance is cute enough but when you're only watching a show for romance it becomes tedious to watch with every setback.

Enjoying Circle and Duel and the ethical questions they addressed, whether about memory or body manipulation.
On a lighter side, Fight My Way and Best Hit continue to be a deligthful, funny, and heartwarming shows with fast revelations and no dragging plot.
-Super Family: This week eps made me cry so hard. So many things to learn, whether it's about our parents' life, workplace loyalty, romantic relationship, friendship, or marriage. Thankfully there is still Ik-hee and Bo-ram being their usual adorable and refreshingly honest self.
-Crime Scene 3: Eps 8. This might be my fave eps to date. Everyone seems much more relaxed and suits their roles to a T. I enjoyed their banter and inside jokes. And the "Be careful or you'll end up like this/that" throwback predictions never failed to make me laugh. This is like the Crime Scene I expected at the beginning. Or maybe it's just the Kong effect. I miss that guy.

curiosly hong did not actually do much in ep 8, mystery resolve was done by Mr. Jhang..
and most of the comic relief was from the queen and that comedian new star they have hired.. and the actor guy (he is really good)
But its just amazing how the cast (majrly mean Jhan, beauty queen i keep forgetting her name the anchor i mean, hong, dong min, the actor who was guest star in s2 and regular member this time round) .. is gels well
Eunji has been a complete misfit.. too boring..doesn't spice things up

With such a diverse diet on my plate, I am glad that my recent gluttonous drama appetite is really just for the right nutritional balance.
Seven Day Queen: I love the show so much that I find myself while watching the show checking several times how much more time I have left until the end of the episode because I just don’t want it to end. I am totally invested in the romance of Chae-kyung with both Yeok and Yeonsungun, but also surprised that I am actually intrigued by the court politics. There is nothing that the show can do to make me stop loving it……okay, maybe cancer. Saguek cancer will kill it.
Forest of Secret: Such moody atmosphere, such layered story, with a calm and collected hero and a down-to-earth heroine –the atmospheric show reminds me of BBC’s Broadchurch. I am thrilled to be caught in this compelling and cerebral web.
Suspicious Partner: I really just want to date Lawyer Eun if for nothing else but the fact that he keeps claiming that he makes a lot of money and no where to spend it.
Fight My Way: Wipe away your tears Ae-ra cuz’ you are awesome. Also stalky exes, please die.
Circle: The show is twisting my brain like Yeo Jin-goo’s twisty eyebrows in that I enjoy looking at it, but also kind of happy knowing that the relieve will come soon.
The Best Hit: The show has some of the best visual gags and surprising Misaeng-esque poignancy about the suffering of youth. Also, I will never NOT think about a water bottle jamming through the eye socket when I see someone in a furry costume cuz’ somethings you just cannot unsee.
Father Is Strange: I don’t mind the lull for the past 2 episodes because of all the other torture, murder, revenge, science experimentation, and time traveling happening through the week. Nothing acts as a better palette cleanser than a little fauxcest.

The only person I am really concerned about right now is Eun Hyuk...i don't know why but despite the revival of Mr. Bang and the romantic moments, i felt a bit bored. Can we just go forward to the father mystery now!

CK and Yeo-jin are my fav female leads right now :D Actually in the current batch of dramas I'm watching somehow almost all the female leads are interesting in their very unique way, and I love them all, but I seem to have a softer spot for CK and Yeo-jin :D

Just a heads up, Broadchurch messed me up a bit after I finished watching it even though I spoiled the ending for myself. I felt suspicious around me for a few hours after, it was really interesting. It is a VERY good show but it is very emotionally taxing to watch.

Hear hear on Broadchurch. I remembered almost holding my breath with each episode and then just breathing in shallow breaths and I took in the events and emotions that unfolded. Definitely emotionally taxing.

I am watching Suspicious Partner which made me squeal so much in the last few episodes but also remind me that I have no idea what happening on the murder legal side. In all honesty, I am watching half a show, only the workplace/romantic comedy side. And I am still worried that I grow bored of it and enter a minor drama slump but I am really enjoying my binge watches, I loved Jealousy Incarnate and I am enjoying Oh my goddess. I will probably add another live watch though, my live watch schedule feels empty so maybe Fight my way, I liked the first episode so..or maybe seven day queen I did find it gripping but I am not prepared for suffering..????????

Seven day queen is taking up all the space in my heart and forest of secrets is taking up all the space in my brain.
I am also watching fight my way and suspicious partner and enjoy them but not fully connected with them like the above two.
I don't want a loveline in forest of secrets but I hope Shi mok becomes friends with yeo Jin because when he told he will be alone forever, damn, that was sad. Also, I love that how they both inherently try to see the good in people unless proved otherwise.
Regarding seven day queen, there was a point when I suddenly felt hopeless and teared up (that tying her up in the pole scene). What is the point of trying to be together with someone going through so much heartache when it's all going to eventually end in even more heartache? But, then there was this scene, where chae Kyung tied to the pole thinks of all the times she has been together with yeok and I instinctively felt that these were the times that she felt her happiest and that changed my hopelessness. Maybe, that's what they mean when they say, "it's better to have loved and lost someone rather than to have not loved at all".

While Shi-mok is naturally more suspicious of people when he senses things going wrong than Yeo-jin, I'm glad that he's got a comrade in Yeo-jin to balance things out because he can come across as quite blunt and hurtful with his suspicion and steely confrontations.

Yes! I totally agree about the blunt part especially when he told someone in the hospital that the person he was searching for died and when questioning Kang Jin seob's wife in the jail. I love how empathetic yeo Jin is, taking that dead ceo's mother under wing. Speaking of that mother, just like Shi mok, I think she is hiding something. So, if they partner up they will definitely balance each other out. Also, I really am curious about yeo Jin's backstory. Is she naturally empathetic or did she lose someone too? I hope the subs come out faster this time.

The fact that she's living alone and craves homemade food makes me think of the scenario you just mentioned: that she might have suffered loss in some way. I think she noticed the son/grandson during CEO Park's funeral and got a hunch, but so far the show hasn't revisited that part yet. I'm not sure if they're (CEO Park's family) just indifferent to his death because he left such a burden on their life, or if there's something more sinister going on.
I think the reason why the subs are out later than other shows is because the conversations here are heavier and may sometimes be difficult to translate. Even with sub it often takes me close to two hours to digest everything dialogue-wise (and most of the other details - but I still feel that I miss some important clues here and there). I imagine it must take the subbers more time than that. Some of the dialogues ended up being rather confusing for me on the site I watch FoS and I could only understand everything clearly by patching up the translation holes from the recaps.

I don't know how popular it is among the international audience, but I think the ratings it's got for a cable drama are quite solid.
Maybe many people are following FoS too, but they don't have time to comment on the recaps, or choose not to for some reason. I follow quite a few dramas at the moment but I don't comment on the recaps for a couple of them. It might be the same for FoS viewers too.

started seven day queen and i love it so much, it's so poignant i find myself crying every episode. the child actresses did a wonderful job and i'm so relieved it transitioned well into the adult counterpart as well. the soundtracks are so beautiful too.

Forest of Secrets - top on my list right now. Love the atmospheric setting and the protagonists. Many actors can learn from Jo Seung-Woo how to play an emotionless yet perceptive character without worrying about looking 'cool' in front of the camera.
The Best Hit - my weekend crack. I know the appearance of Hyun-Jae shook things up within the family, but I can't help but feel bad for Kwang-Jae. It's his birthday and it's ruined in the worst way possible.
Circle - Slowly catching up in the chase for the truth. I really hope the brothers can reunite soon. They've been going through enough.
7DQ - I guess we can do with less perils and saving. The preview for next episode looks like there's some sunshine on the horizon so I'm holding up my hope.
My Sassy Girl - The plot picks up now. Can't wait to see the addition of the Chinese prince to the story. Will he be a love rival or is there anything about his visit that would help shed some light on the deposed Queen's disappearance and whereabouts?
Suspicious Partner - I'm glad Chief Bang has come back. I miss his cheeky grins.

OMG! I have the exact same issue with actors worrying about looking cool in front of the camera. It takes them out of the moment or we can already see that they were never in the character.
In the same vein, some actors worry too much about their appearance or 'best angle'. Kiss the girl like you really want to and not show us your beautiful jawline or how great you are at kissing.

Yes to this and to your observation about kissing too. Those have actually turned me off from actors I thought I would like across several projects in the past. I'm not sure who should take the larger portion of the blame, the actor or the director, but if an actor is like that in many other projects then it's safe to conclude that he's particularly self-conscious in front of the camera right?

I would put the blame mostly on the actor especially if he/she is experienced. Of course, the director plays a huge part too although I am not sure if they can exercise much 'control' over an experienced actor compared to a newer one.

Maybe I'm used to Sherlock and every drama prosecutors out there but I don't find Shi-mok being emotionless as something new, interesting or out of character etc.
I mean, what was everyone expecting from a prosecutor? A smart, righteous, caring and loving? I've never met one in real life or on screen.
I get being emotionless can be off putting but we understand that he has a condition.
Maybe that's why he is so good at what he does. He doesn't let his emotion get in the way.

Nah Shi-mok is definitely not a novel prosecutor that has never been seen in the literal or cinematic history :P but he sure is different than many Korean prosecutors in Kdramas because he's not screaming to the audience through his acting, 'Hey look! I'm cold and cool and special because I'm suffering from a condition!'

Also, @kiara, thank you for your recommendations. I finished The Classic this morning. Love him in it! I like Son Ye-jin in some moments, and not in others. The story is more compelling in the mother's portion, and pre-war than post-war and in modern days. I don't know if it's just me though.

SKorea entertainment industry is blessed with this man. If he's ever to go back to the small screen after FoS/ Stranger I hope the writing will live up to his capacity.

Sorry for not warning you ahead of time. Both films made me cry especially "Marathon."
I'm not a rom.com girl but "The Classic" (those beautiful scenery I can still see it) was one of the few that I got into.
At first I checked it out for Son Ye-jin but stayed for her and Jo Seung-woo.
I thought Son Ye-jin was believable in both roles and what she might have lacked she compensate with her charms.
I do understand not liking her in some parts.
I watched "Marathon" for Jo Seung-woo and stayed for him and Kim Mi-sook.
I got to know and follow great actors mostly from films and I'm always excited when they showed up in dramaland.
Since I didn't grow up with Korean films and dramas I've been watching his movies out of order. I had to go back and watch "Chunhyang" etc after discovering him in "The Classic."
The most painful one to watch for me was his first drama "Horse Doctor." It was one of those long and boring sageuks but I finished it for him and Kim So-eun who kept me entertained even though she had limited screen time.
I have dvds of his musicals and I watch some on line.
Anyway, I'm glad you got to watch some of his earlier films. I hope you'll go back and watch more :).

My Sassy Girl "I miss the stupid-funny!" Hahaha! So true! Well, a lot of things make more sense especially the Princess, I wish the show had started off less crazy in the beginning and sustained more of the humor. Hopefully, jealous Gyun Woo will provide some comic relief next week.
Seven Day Queen I can't wait for things to rev up more notches now that Yeok is officially back.
Circle I don't know what's worse, Woo Jin dead or Woo Jin being anything less than the Woo Jin we love all this time. When I read a comment that Woo Jin might have become a human battery, I screamed in my head. Finale week, here we come!
Lookout Somehow I lost interest in it this week. Can't help wondering if it's due to me watching Forest of Secrets. Other dramas pale in comparison and since Lookout is of the same genre, it's more stark. I think I'll just read the recaps.
Duel I want to watch this for my baby but I haven't gotten beyond the episodes where he's battered repeatedly. *sigh*
Forest of Secrets Jo Seung Woo!!! Actually the entire cast is very good in this drama. This is now the show I anticipate most.
Ruler It's now funnier than My Sassy Girl! Still reading the recaps. It's strange that I had thought Hwa Goon would be the most disliked character. She turned out to be the most consistent, well written(comparatively!) and best character.

On Circle, I dreaded so much hearing the heavy footsteps of that mysterious person on the stairs. What has happened to him all these years? :(
7DQ: I'm glad the show has moved the battle to the palace. I guess it'll mark the point where Yeonsangun's madness would start to blow out of control. I hope they will explore his character more in the next episodes. For the past couple I think they've mostly just glossed over him. It's understandable though because other characters need to be explored too, but I'm just impatient to see how his ultimate spiralling down to tyranny takes place.
Btw, I love SN's giving MH a lesson last ep. 'You want to beat CK Agasshi? You'll need to try harder', LOL. I'm just afraid that girl will interpret it all the wrong way XD.

WWW got shorter compared to two weeks ago lol. Real life has been hectic because I'm juggling two jobs, one part -time and the other full-time (living like Choi Wooseung except I don't have cute roomies), so I've been limiting my KDrama viewing for now with lighter stories The Best Hit and Fight My Way. Of course my variety shows are always there 1n2d, Ugly Duckling, and NJTTW. Looking forward to another season of drama slump so I can catch up with the drama I didn't pick up this season.

Seven Day Queen-My main drama at the moment. I simply love everything about this drama. Cast, story, OST, etc etc.
Fight My Way-I love friends to lovers stories to begin with but this time not just about it but the slice of life themed drama with most of the scenes you can relate to is really commendable.
My Sassy Girl-At first I didn't know that I will get to like this drama as much as I do right now. It's starting to get better especially now that the Prince of Qing is in the picture.
The Best Hit-I love how this drama can make me smile and laugh every single time and I like how episodes is being released on weekends.
SP and Ruler: I both put a hold watching these 2 dramas for 2 weeks now, but still curious for the ending of course. I might watch it just for closure.

My Only Love Song-This drama gets me squealing like a teenager and I'm glad it's available on Netflix.

Just wondering/curious if any of the dramabeans staff or even anyone else on here have watched 'My only love song' on Netflix and what their thoughts were on it.. I actually loved it the first time I watched it through, but then found out the main leads were on 'We got married' and realised all of the nods to their couple throughout the drama.
It was low angst, well acted, cool timeslip and I'm really greatful that netflix picked it up!

I've been enjoying MY ONLY LOVE SONG, and am up to episode 12. Along with THE BEST HIT, it keeps me laughing and supplies levity to offset the seriousness of SEVEN DAY QUEEN, CIRCLE, DUEL, and the recent return to MY SASSY GIRL's tragic back story.
My favorite character? Boong Boong, as the time travel sageuk equivalent of MY MOTHER THE CAR. Because of the GPS, I had no idea the van is a guy. And neither does On Dal. ROFLMAO. Cue up Queen's "I'm in Love with My Car." ;-)
Just like Sam-Yong, I talk to my car, too. But she's a she, even if her name is Garuda. In English, at least in America, vehicles, aircraft, and ships, etc., are often referred to as she. Ah, the metaphysics of dealing with supposedly non-sentient beings. ;-)

I'm experiencing severe whiplash every time I see Park Joo-Hyung as preening diva General Go Il-Yong. He's currently playing taciturn Prosecutor Park in LOOKOUT, along with Kim Jung-Young as Detective Suji's mom; she plays the bandit chief's wife and leader of the mountain hideout in MOLS. Oh, and she's also currently portraying Chae-Kyung's mother in SEVEN DAY QUEEN. Plus she was doc Dong-Joo's mom in ROMANTIC DOCTOR, TEACHER KIM. I started watching it, got to episode 5 and couldn't keep watching it. I didn't find it funny, if anything I found the drama to be embarrassing, and since it's going for a weird and cheesy humor as its draw it definitely didn't hold my interest.

Ditto above - Forest of Secrets is my current favourite and I'll be trying out a VPN to try and get overseas Netflix to play with me this afternoon.
Big news for us - my husband is currently watching his first Korean show and loving it. I mentioned a lot of shows had been added to UK Netflix and he went for the crime/thriller one Bad Guys. Every episode he feels the need to say Kim Sang-Joong reminds him of Charles Bronson while I just find it amusing that I keep recognising City Hunter locations.

Circle: does anyone else feel that the show went from ambitious sci-fi concept drama with desire to provoke philosophical and ethical discussions to a more classic YA dystopian story about memories these last episodes?
I don't mean it as something necessarily negative: it's just an observation about how the drama seemed to have changed in its nature et is less and less what i understood it to be from the initial promotion.
There's also this feeling that the balance between 2017 and 2037 is not working on a writing level. 2037 is all about twist and turns and forgot its characters: i Who is Joon Hyuk? Who is Bluebird? Who is the chairman? Where is Woon Jin? How to escape the bad guys when technology doesn't work? Everyone spent its time running away from something or running after something...
But great scenes of character development like Min Young confronting Woo Jin about his coward desire to run away with Byul and start over just because Bum Gyun isn't in capacity to oppose him barely exist in 2037.
I don't get it because the show has a very solid lead actor in 2037 and still chose to assign him to actions scenes mostly. Kim kang Woo is clearly underused and it's a pity.
The only relationship that seem a little flesh out in 2037 is the one between Ho Soo and Joon Hyuk, while he has a complete team to support him. The secondary characters are barely on screen and got very few interactions. A character like Min Young who is an essential link between the brothers in 2017, is almost non existent in 2037...Normal Earth is barely featured and we get very few tidbits about how things/life work on smart Earth.
I still like the concept of separating the story in two part but it seems that the two teams of writers don't have the same goals, which has consequences on the quality of the all show.
Forest of secrets: Perfection on all level. Just give me more.

The drama is full of exposition, rather than letting the viewers experience what's happening on screen. Sometimes, the characters will say things out loud when it's already so obvious. I couldn't relate to any character because they tend to run around all the time. I can't tell what they're feeling besides running out of breath.

It is Adnerline rushing entertainment. I don't think Scriptwriter is being serious about any of the questions. Most of the questions will subside with the show itself.
Now there is no difference between Normal Earth and Smart Earth. Look at all those security guards running barefoot holding sticks in their hands. 1 min hero is in smart earth and next minute he is in normal earth. Deadly air of Normal earth vanished somewhere. Smart Earth was a manmade city but it has whatnot of normal earth. There is much more that lacks in 2037 and Character Growth is negligible. Side Character has only role of moving forward the story and drag the time. A lot of Mystery isn't even Mystery itself. It looks pretty much like a tv version of action Manga.
The best of the show is - When it puts the same questions to its audience and forced audience to think about it.
Still a better kdrama than the most.

1) My current sageuk obsession: Seven Day Queen. Both guys are flawed, one just looks more crazy. Chae Kyung is amazing (what a good year for strong heroines!)
2) My crack drama: The Best Hit. Am I the only one that doesn't want the 90s hair to go?
3) Watching with my mom: My Sassy Girl. I think I love Sassy Mom the most.
4) Dropped: Fight My Way. Clearly I'm not a rom-com girl this year. I need more story to stay interested but Ae Ra is the only one who's really fighting her way. Hye Ran can just die. Ugh.
5) My Catnip poison: King of High School Savvy. After seeing such amazing heroines in the above dramas, it is extremely painful to see an idiotic female lead opposite Seo In Guk. But. he's. so. good *wails like a cat that got left outside all night*

I love Chae-kyung up until now. Period. The future has to wait, but right now I love her :D
2) Count me in! Please don't ruin Hyun-Jae antiques. Everything about his style is his signature, footprint, and unique identity in the modern world. I've got a glance at today's episode and I was like, 'Nooooo please give me Hyun Jae 93's hair back!'.
3) Lol I love Sassy Mom too. I can predict what she'll do or say next but she still cracks me up every time.
4) I like Lee Ha-Na much better in The Voice, despite her character not benefiting as much as I'd expected from more exploration due to the heavy focus on the thrill element.

King of High School Savvy is one of my favorite drama of all time but like you, I just cannot like Lee Hana and her portrayal for the character. The kisses are hot (well it's Seo In Guk) but I don't feel the OTP. Everything else but the romance is perfect though: Seo In Guk's performance is magnetic supported by the loveliest bunch of supporting casts who are natural in both acting AND comedic timing, but still able to wreck my heart into pieces.

The thing I'm holding on to in FMW is the fulfillment of Ae-ra's dream. I'm ok with her crying scene with her father because it's relatable. But with how she is constantly rejected, I want her to let go of her dream and find something that she'll be good at because in reality, people do give up on their dreams. On that note, is Dong-man's dream considered fulfilled already? And will the remaining episodes be about the challenges between the second couple and how it will affect the main couple?

I'm watching The Best Hit RAW. That takes it to crack level for me. It's not that difficult to understand what's going on either.
FMY - I don't buy Ae Ra failing so many interviews over the last 10 years. It makes Hye Ran a plot device who is conveniently there to ruin her chances. In real life, if you make it to the interview stage it's because you are considered better than other applicants. It makes no sense to call in someone to interview if you won't even let them speak. If the Korean system is really like that, it's totally screwed.
Ae Ra could fulfill her dream of holding a mic as MC. I won't be surprised if the drama ends with another wedding where Ae Ra is MC.

For Fight My Way - I'm watching it for the cute, but I agree that the drama premise is a little misleading and Aera, whom I love, really is the only one who's fighting her way. JM and SH aren't fighting anything but each other. DM is like a genius mixed martial artist and an opportunity really just fell into his lap. Aera has been suffering through interviews and disappointment for weeks now.

Suspicious Partner: It revved back up again after a little slump. The thing about all the office meetings never working out cracks me up. As someone who has worked in a law office, let me say that lawyers can run a meeting well (and they don't have them that often). It's all about getting the lawyers and legal assts back to work billing time so those meetings zip right along.
I was thinking about Woman of Dignity because I like the female leads, but I'm holding off to see how things go.
I don't need another drama right now, but I'm hearing too much about Forest of Secrets so I don't think I'm going to be able to deny myself. I think I'll give it a go.

I'm currently bingeing on The Gentlemen of Wolgyesu Tailor Shop. Now I remember that I do actually enjoy family dramas. There were some initial parts I had to skip, such as Sung Jung getting scammed and some bickering by the Chicken couple. It was also poignant to see Kim Young Ae in her last days. I really salute her professionalism. I also keep trying to see when the Lee Dong Gun fell in love with Jo Yoon Hee. His smile looks very genuine when they start preparing for the marriage. I can't believe I actually enjoy Korean trot music!
Fight My Way - getting better. The secondary couple's romance is too realistic and that is why it is uncomfortable to watch. Real romances fizzle out when no changes are made and new people appear.
The Best Hit - still loving it. Haven't caught the latest episode yet though.
Suspicious Partners - watched one episode this week. Glad Mr Bang didn't die.

My favourite is 2nd couple. Their relationship problems are realistic. They bring much complexity and conflict on the table. Ye-Jin is testing the strength of their relationship.

Fight My Way has a special place in my heart for all the squees that it induces. Whenever it's the second couple's scenes though, I skip it because come on, is anyone really interested on what's going to happen to them? I mean, don't get me wrong, they aren't really working out and it kind of rubs me in the wrong way. The fact that they had to hide their relationship in the first place is the clue that the relationship is destined to fail. Even if the guy acknowledged his girl already, it doesn't redeem his douchebaggery in my eyes. Girl is too blind! Ugh. Enough rants.

I binge watched Chicago typewriter last night and I pretty much cried through the whole thing!! ? and then I checked out the comment section on the DB reviews and saw all these posts fangirling over Yo Ah In's wig and I cried for a whole different reason! ? Seriously though he should do a Jun ji-hyun and keep that same hairstyle for evaaaaaaa! I can't deal with how he gets instantly 100000% hotter with that hair. It's sinful to look this rougish!

We give so much praise to the actors and directors sometimes we forget that the little details like hair and makeup and costume also make up a character and goes a long way to adding that extra level of belief in them. I almost forgot that I haven't watched FIS last week's epi yet lol. ? Blessing in disguise, I'll get to watch 4 epi this weekend. Sorry Hae Young ah. I think I look forward to Hae Young's parts only every week and generally when the family is gathered. I used to like Jong Hee-Mi Young parts but I can't erase that kiss yet from my memory. It just so weird.
You're Too Much took over my priority for weekend slot because finally the ship is sailed between Hae Dang - Hyun Joon, although so far no romantic feeling really involved but I will patienly waiting for their development. Yoo Ji Na's downfall has started little by little and I'm watching patiently.
Another weekend drama that I love are Forest of Secrets. Having three weekend drama seems to make me full that weekdays drama have turned to something I'm no longer excited.

It's strange or may not. Shows use kissing to lure viewers and someone had just suggested that bed scenes do too! Then the reverse can happen. Bad kissing turns off viewers, imagine what if Jong Hee-Mi Young were the only/main couple?

The kiss scene itself is not weird, it is still kdrama standard of kissing scene and not western standard lol. But if you look at the entire situation - because both of them believed they are siblings anddddd this happened because the drama PD asked Mi Young as Actor Ahn'd manager to do the kissing scene - It's clearly sexually harassment in workplace for me ? I am well understood why netizens filed the complaints about that kissing scene. I think since this is family drama and has so many characters, the rating is still doing good. I'm not into any romance in this drama tbh, I am more interested with the relationship between family members. None of the couple really has the good chemistry imo but they are interesting in their own. My fav character still Hae Young because she is so eccentric and also Jong Hee. These two are the only interesting characters in this drama and without these two, i may not following every week like I always do with other weekend drama ?

I want to add that the reason the PD asked Mi young to kiss Joong Hee was because they wanted to add realistic lip-shaped kiss marks on his face and their makeup artists, for some reason, were unable to do it. They were pretty much drawing cartoonish lips on him. But if you were a make-up artist, wouldn't you be skilled enough to make the kiss marks look realistic? Then after she placed the kiss marks on his face, the PD wanted one on his lips. Really a kiss mark on the lips would just be a smudge! MY hesitated like forever, which was a clear indication of discomfort. It was such a contrived reason to get that kiss scene! And also the sexual harrassment.

OMG I was dying when Ho-dong started to repeat Ji-won's name!! NJTTW and 1N2D are my favorite variety shows and they never fail to make me laugh! ^^
I absolutely adore The Best Hit and the gang of misfits that have gathered on that rooftop. The show is just so light and heartwarming. I can really relate to some of the characters and the struggles of navigating through the adult world. Also, I don't know if I'm the only one but I squealed when I saw Hyun-jae's new hairstyle that was teased in the recent preview <3 Yoon Shi-yoon is love (dong-gooyaaaaaa~ hehe) :P

Finally started watching Forest of Secrets this week! I’m on EP 3, but I’m going to catch up this weekend. Excited for the new episodes! I’m really liking Jo Seung Woo’s portrayal of his character. Shi Mok is not cold or naïve. He is not unlikable. I like the way he investigates and notices all sorts of details. I felt bad for him after the public turned on him so quickly and he became even more of an outsider among his peers.
The Best Hit EP 13-14 - This show never fails to make me laugh. The hour zips by so fast.
Duel - I’m enjoying this show as well, but not really gushing about it. The action is superb! Glad that Deuk Chun is less unhinged now and actually feeling pity/sorry towards Sung Joon.
Fight My Way - Love this drama. I’m usually late to the recap threads so most of the time, I’m just nodding along and upvoting all the great comments/analyses. xD
Fallen behind on Circle’s episodes this week. It doesn’t have that pull that makes me want to watch it the moment it is released. However, it is usually engaging once I’m actually in the middle of the ep.
I really want to get started on 7DQ too,but I feel like I need to finish an old show first (Whisper… Man to Man…) XP

So I have been holding out on the recently premiered dramas and I finally started Duel, Forest of Secrets, and I hope Seven Day Queen soonish. Duel was ok but I LOVE Forest of Secrets! This is my first Bae Doo-na and Jo Seung-woo drama and now I want to watch everything they're in! Still loving Suspicious Partner, Fight My Way, Circle, Lookout, The Big Hit, and Father is Strange. What I'm not loving anymore is Ruler Master of the Mask. I had such high hopes for that drama and I honestly want to drop it.

The Best Hit – Yoon Shi Yoon is hilarious. The comedy in this show is off the charts.
Forest of Secrets – Joo Seoung Woo is so mysterious and Bae Do Na’s character is so cool!
Chicago Typewriter – I love the surprise comedy. Plus, the bookshelves and the flashbacks are visually pleasing.
Mystery Queen - I didn't know how a housewife detective could be this entertaining. It’s a little slow but fun to watch.

Its holiday here in the middle east! Yes, Sassy girl is becoming generic which makes me sad. I or rather we have to wait for two years to see another drama from Joowoon. Bummer! and ugh fillers! The flashbacks and the way it repeats a few minutes of the previous episodes.

QUEEN FOR SEVEN DAYS.... I'd be speechless on this, a perfect-classic-masterpiece!! I dont care about the tragic, love the dimensions of the plot.... And again it will be perfect, till the end... (plot, OST, actors, pictures, what else can u ask for?)...
THE BEST HIT.. for weekends, and for LOL...
That's it!!... Only 2, cause I only choose the more sensible k-dramas... and how I love both were in KBS..

I feel pity for JCW bed scene, I think he went over board (he might suggested it).. for the ratings... So, SP officially dropped! and feel sorry for NJH, as she wants fame and popularity rushed!... She might be the youngest actress I've seen on a bed scene in kdrama..

Granted, not everyone enjoys watching such scenes or how it's done but do you have to discredit the actors for the scene and suggest they're doing it for ratings or fame? And I remember seeing a bed scene in Fight For My Way and a car scene in MSR recently.
IMO, the intimacy with the bed scene will become critical to bring out the emotional conflict that is expected. Anyway, the scene isn't distasteful so please don't make it sound like it is.

I'm honestly not one for bed scenes either, but I didn't think it was distastefully done in SP. The scene getting to the bed was hardly more than a really passionate kiss. The only clothes taken off is his jacket...The morning-after scene showed some skin, but I do not think it was raunchy or vulgar by any means. I actually preferred this over the speculative moments of whether they slept together or not because to me it's more important as to why they slept together. I rather them doing so because they truly care/love each other than a drunken one-night stand, although I enjoyed the comedy that came from not knowing.

I'm sure everyone and their dog notices when a bunch of various "shippers" get their noses out of joint over a certain actor's successive projects and bash the female co-stars to no end. It's tiring and gives a bad name to the male star's fandoms. People need to stop that crap NOW.
Go "Suspicious Partner"! Hoping and praying those ratings keep going up (darn you footie matches taking away viewers)! See you in July, Baby Boy! ?

I stopped watching Suspicious Partner cause I already turned off to JCW!!.. Too Bad.. Im pretty sure, he suggested that bed scenes for ratings purposes, and I felt bad for NJH for being forced to do that... She 's the youngest actress I've seen done that beating, say PSH?.. lol.. wow, she wants instant popularity... Anyway, go "The Best Hit"!!..

All of these because of a man on a woman sleeping in bed, where you can see naked shoulders and him kissing her arm. Wow, that is almost pornographic.

They talked about sleeping together since the beginning of the drama. And when they're living together, I expected that would be happening. They're both adult, madly falling in love. And the whole process until that scene is all make sense. It's not fair that you said it's all about rating and fame.

Circle Enjoying this a lot, especially the Beta Project half.
Forest of Secrets Always anticipating this one – oh, if only we could have more tightly scripted and superbly acted shows like "Circle" and "Forest of Secrets".
Watched:
Reverse (J) Sort of "Circle" without the sci-fi. Okay, that makes it quite different, but it with all its twists and turns, it had me on the edge every episode. The characters were interesting (it was lovely to see them grow and actually become friends. Plus, it was wonderfully acted – Tatsuya Fujiwara is particularly compelling.
Chanpon Tabetaka (J) – A very relaxing and heart-warming coming-of-age slice of life story set in 1970s Japan. All the characters were lovely – it seemed like innocent old times (no bullying in schools but kids helping each other). And the friendship between all the boys (and the loving care from their families) was great.
Dalja's Spring Watched this on basis of the noona romance catnip recommendations. Watchable but I wasn't that impressed – I think it does date itself. Actually didn't like the heroine that much (she's spunky, but I also thought she was just stupid a lot of times). Hated the grandma beating Dalja in one scene, hated all the "scandals". The divorcing husband had me fuming – and I didn't get why Dalja CONTINUED to be interested in him after it was revealed that he had lied to her. I mean he was a totally boring guy from the start though I can see her logic in "stable guy with status" but when he turned out to be a married guy... And when he NEVER took responsibility – she suffered all the consequences when she had never actually seduced him, but merely gone on like, what, one date with him assuming he was single.
I also imagine this drama probably got an extension? The last few episodes seemed to drag and Taebong seemed to fall out of character – I just don't think he would go back to being a lawyer, even temporarily, and he would keep distance with his ex, rather than work with her and end up in ambiguous situation where she rests her head on his shoulder while Dalja walks by. And I never understand separations with time-skips of multiple years. Why? I don't regret watching it (Taebong was pretty much perfect in every way), but I wouldn't sing it great praises.

What has happened to me i always loved rom-Coms but this year i really don't feel that emotion...i am absolutely loving FORESTS of SECRETS and the best hit.. i might pick up duel again. This year i watched signal(late to the ship but just breathtaking),bad guys(awsm???) and tunnel my fav drama of 2017 and then 38 task fav(SEO in guk) all the ocn dramas have hit the right spots for me though its a cable channel but its quality is amazing it is not as popular as tvn which it should be but its just the beginning...maybe Leejungsuk can make me fall in love again or it could be lee joon ki please ???

Looking forward to everyone new episode of Suspicious Partner. It pushes all the right buttons for me. Acting, plot romance and every single character. I am dreading the end. Even more since I realised that the final episode will air, when I will be flying to Turkey. It could take a week until I can see it.

Sharing the same thoughts with @headsno2 about Joo Won in My Sassy Girl. I've actually been saying that Joo Won is not acting at all in this drama. I think it has to do with the writing. The character is not written out well enough for him to do a lot about it. He's supposed to be a smartypants scholar, right? Then why does it seem to me like he is not using his brains and all he seems to do is follow the princess around and do everything to her bidding?

Went on a massive Park Yeon-seon binge in the last few weeks and rewatched Evasive Inquiry Agency and Wild Romance. There's nothing to say about EIA that hasn't already been said--definitely her magnum opus. WR is always an uneven ride because the director was totally, infuriatingly incapable of dealing with the script's tonal complexities, but the story really, really spoke to me and I had a very positive, fulfilling experience with it this time around. Probably because of the point I am in life now? Who knows. The cast is uniformly good, too, down to two exceptions (well, one and a half, considering Lee Si-young is completely fine 50% of the time)...if only the director had been good, it would've been a bonafide masterpiece. Kind of ironic and sad that the show itself is held back by an "if only," considering what it's about haha. idk, probably my second favorite Park Yeon-seon script, after EIA (although I haven't seen Alone in Love in a while haha).
As for currently airing stuff, I watched the first couple episodes of Woman of Dignity. I'm...not sure what to make of it. The power dynamics sort of remind me of Grapevine (ie, their desire to maintain appearances puts the rich at the mercy of people supposedly beneath them), and I enjoyed how the show pointed out that a lot of the women married into money and are turning their children into projects and their own lives into performances, drawing out the tension between their rich woman drag and the normal people underneath. But the writing is egregious in its lack of subtlety, and in its lack of purpose. Like, beginning at the end? The voice overs? Instead of using them as a framing device to set up the show, introduce the central conflict, and define the characters' roles in the story (like, for example, the first episode of Shin Don, the first half hour of Flames of Ambition, etc), they're like narratively incoherent color commentary. We get a smattering of characterization, but nothing incisive, a smattering of ideas, but nothing thematically cogent, etc. The fact that I can buy Bok-ja's dual identity at all (and buy her grisly fate) comes down to Kim Yoon-cheol and Kim Seon-ah, who are doing all the tonal heavy lifting.
Speaking of Kim Yoon-cheol--when I think of him I think of his mid-2000s stuff like Kim Sam-soon and Que Será, Será, so it's very odd to see him working with primary colors and a cleaner, brighter aesthetic. This show just feels less...lived in? idk. I do think he's doing some interesting things here, and there's a definite chill running through the show's bland conviviality, so I'm hopeful he'll get to shine later, when things pick up.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts about Park Yeon Seon. I watched Alone in Love and Evasive Inquiry Agency a year and a half ago and loved it. Too bad the ratings for EIA were terrible. I thought White Christmas had some issues, but it certainly wasn't the writing that was the problem. I haven't watched Wild Romance, but I plan to quite soon. I haven't watched Age of Youth yet either, too busy when it aired. I had read about the flaws you brought up for Wild Romance in other reviews, but I appreciated your thoughts on them. Thank you.
Have you seen the drama special, "The Scary One, the Ghost and I" yet? She worked with the White Christmas PD, Kim Yong Soo on that one. I watched it a couple months ago and I thought it was one of the better drama specials.

I actually haven't seen The Scary One! I've never paid much attention to Drama Specials (I think the only one I've seen is Red Candy). I did download it after my binge, but then held back because I wanted to come down from my Wild Romance high first haha. Now that you've recommended it I'm even more excited :)
Haha White Christmas and Wild Romance shared similar fates (with Wild Romance it was the director, with White Christmas the acting). Wild Romance requires some patience and active watching in order to fully appreciate its beauty, because the director tramples over all its finer points, and the first 2 episodes are very hyper and hard to sit through (he calms down after that, to the point where the production is tolerable for the most part as long as there's no music involved). But having seen it twice now, I definitely think it can be a very rewarding watch.
If you have time, you should give Age of Youth a try! Season 2 is coming out in August.

omg the ensemble cast is perfection. Im Joo-eun is wonderful like you said (plus I <3 Dong-ah), but Oh Man-seok, Lee Won-jong, Lee Han-wi, Lee Hee-joon, Lee Bo-hee, and Hwang Seon-hee are all amazing too. Lee Dong-wook is very good too imo--between his performance in this drama and La Dolce Vita I started to see him very differently.
But yeah, Im Joo-eun deserves so much better :( I never watched Uncontrollably Fond so I don't know how bad it was there, but when I think of her role in Heirs I just rage lol. The character barely showed up and when she did, it just sucked anyway.

Im Jo Eun is doing fine, but I'm abit dissapoint with Lee Kyung Hee handling her character, between 4 lead Im Jo Eun. character is the least char LKH care about Lol. Her char is the catalyst why the tragedy happened, and silly me for hoping LKH would write her char like what she did with park Si Yeon's Han Jae Hee. but at least it's not like her char in Heirs... lol

IJE is good in such villain roles but she does well in comedic role too.
Currently she is in weekend drama Thief Nim Thief Nom, initially I was thinking to watch because it got another good casts like Kim Ji Hoon and Ji HYun Woo but it looks so slow and Im Jo Eun seems to take another similar role again. Maybe will try to watch later because I also miss to see Kim Ji Hoon in major role in kdrama.

Fight My Way: I dont understand why everyone is only blaming JM when SH also has a share in this relationship issue. A few key moments to me were when meeting up with friends and she was soo shy picking what she wanted to eat and after the meeting being surprised that the guy married a girl he's been dating for 4 months rather than the girl he had been with for 6 years. to me that shows that SH think that just because she's in the relationship for awhile, that its an automatic thing for them to get married when its not. Relationships are constant work from both sides and she needs to realize it. I personally think that most of their problems would be solved if they actually sat down and talked to each other...really talked to each other, about their issues.
Man to Man: on ep 7 and boy can i say what a good show this is. all the characters are so good and exceeding my expectations. Even the bad guys are multi-faceted.
