Team Dramabeans: What we’re watching

It’s been an amazingly full week for me, mostly because I’ve been hit with the disease where I have been finding everything interesting. Nothing has fallen off the watchlist yet, but time will tell if I can keep up this pace (I’d bet on no), and which shows will have to be put on the back-burner. For now, though, I’m reveling like a glutton. A glutton with a stomachache and dark circles from all the drama gorging. No regrets! –javabeans

Currently recapping: Seven Day Queen
The Best Hit: There’s nothing variety about it, but I do find it very funny—and also a little sobering to realize that I lived through all the ’90s references that, in the context of this show, seem so ancient. The first episode felt a little scattered, like skit after skit, but toward the end we started seeing how the characters fit into the same world, and I liked that much better. Yoon Shi-yoon was barely in the premiere, but I have a feeling he’s going to be awesome.
My Sassy Girl: It’s about what I expected: an in-your-face romantic comedy, with very little realism (did they have to make her a princess, which seems completely unbelievable, rather than a mere noblewoman?). This isn’t a sageuk so much as it’s a parodied version of history with all the modern jokes and intentional anachronisms, which can be either hilarious or hokey, depending on your take. (I’m half-half on that.) But while I wish the tone weren’t quite so juvenile, I did really like Joo-won in this, Oh Yeon-seo is playing her part to the hilt, and I foresee myself watching for the romance.
Circle: Omg this got so exciting! Every time I’m in one time period, I think I like it best, then we move to the other time period and I think that’s my favorite. It’s so rare to find a show that’s not just good, but so unpredictable and assured that I feel safe just diving in head-first and putting my full trust in the drama to deliver something awesome. Plus, every episode keeps upping the ante and throwing even better twists our way, and I’m just really happy to be watching this.
Fight My Way: Park Seo-joon is so good—all that disappointment and heart and hope! Sometimes I watch ordinary, serviceable actors and think that they’re good enough, they’re adequate, whatever—and then I watch emotionally genuine actors like Park Seo-joon (and Yeo Jin-gu) and wonder how I could ever be satisfied with lowered standards when good actors can bring so much more to the table. Kim Ji-won is great too, though it was Park who made me cry this week. I’d like to drop-kick that ex-girlfriend out of the show, though.
Suspicious Partner: I was SO loving Ji-wook’s struggle with his denial (it was played in such a nicely subtle way) that I almost am disappointed that he’ll have to move out of that zone of indecision, even as I applauded that he finally stepped it up. I feel such satisfaction when he does things for Bong-hee against his own intentions, as though his caring for her is uncontrollable, and I’ll miss that. But surely the progression of the romance will make up for that, right? *taps foot expectantly*
Lookout: When it’s in action mode, the pull is constant and fast-paced, and I really enjoy how fast things fly. The show lacks some subtlety on the good-versus-evil front, which makes the fight pretty black-and-white but at least also produces satisfying payoffs. Suji is badass, but so hotheaded that I facepalm regularly—but on the other hand, Kim Young-kwang is my favorite character because of his layers and duality, and I find his hidden agenda fascinating.
Ruler–Master of the Mask: My interest is starting to wane, and I keep wishing this drama were more exciting, more smoothly written, more even in quality all around. I find myself wishing Pyunsoohwe were a better villain, because while they are effective, they seem rather one-note. I have a feeling I’d perk right up if the show actually let the three leads be in the same scenes together, but they spend so much time frustratingly apart!
Father Is Strange: I died laughing at Joong-hee’s eagerness to explain away his interest in Mi-young as brotherly caring. It’s because she’s my sister that I want to buy her gifts and feed her and make her happy! Because this is what brothers do for sisters! With Oppa admitting that he feels usurped by Joong-hee’s arrival, I have hope that Dad will be prompted to admit the truth to the family soon(…ish?), and that he’ll realize that it’s the healthiest path for everyone.
Man to Man: This was the first time I actually felt some romantic connection between Seol-woo and Do-ha, and I thought it cute that they were going through this very elaborate and contrived “dating mission” to have an excuse to be together. And I did laugh at how our movie star is so fixated on his 5 million bucks and kept guilt-tripping Seol-woo about it. This show won’t ever make me feel emotions beyond a surface-level amusement (I still don’t really know what’s up with those wood carvings or why I should care), but it does still make me laugh.
My Secret Romance: Well, that was lame. They must have split the planned 12th episode into two (after being pre-empted a few weeks ago and needing an extra episode), and that resulted in a whole mess of filler flashbacks and empty scenes that dragged down an already dreary slog to the finale. Two weeks ago I thought this show was silly and cute. Then it nosedived with the stupid separation angst and overserious tone, and now I’m kind of annoyed that I watched it. I suppose I’ve seen worse.

Super Family 2017: How can a sitcom be so sad? I’ve enjoyed Won-kyun as reliable comedic background fodder, but never really paid his character much attention until now. My heart first broke when he handed in his resignation letter, and then proceeded to break even further during the rest of the episode. At least Manager Choi continues to be the pillar that I — and everyone else — leans on. In happier news, I love that Mom has officially declared she has a boyfriend. She needs someone in her life that isn’t just there to raid her fridge!
Chicago Typewriter: I love that we’re finally figuring out what happened back in the 1930s, but I’m also suitably stressed about the cracks in my favorite ghost. I don’t know how its possible to have a happy ending for someone who is already dead — maybe once the whole story is told and we figure out how he died, he’ll be freed from his typewriter and finally be able to be reincarnated with a new chance at love and happiness. At any rate, I hope the finale lives up to my expectations, because I can’t wait to see how everything resolves itself — both in the present and in the past.

Currently recapping: Circle
Fight My Way: What is this? An actual friends-to-lovers drama with actual chemistry and cuteness?? It’s subtle, but I love how the two characters have this underlying connection that makes them trust and confide in the other person no matter what. It’s this type of bond, stemming from their long-time camaraderie, that I think makes a great foundation for a permanent relationship. And surprisingly, I’m pulled in by the secondary romance as well. It may be too early to say, but perhaps Fight My Way could redeem Park Seo-joon in my eyes from the disappointment that was Hwarang.

Seven Day Queen: Wow. Tragedy has never looked so appealing. The opening left such a strong impression that I’m pretty much on edge the entire time even though we just entered the happy stage. But how adorable is the happy stage? So, so adorable. I already love these characters and the way they’re being portrayed. I’m still amazed by how much the child actors resemble their adult counterparts.
My Sassy Girl: Well, this is certainly different! But like Queen, it has this charm that instantly pulled me in. It’s colorful and beautiful (I was practically drooling over those hanboks) and pretty darn ridiculous. They’re really going for it and despite some lingering doubts, I’m really into it so far. That slow motion vomiting scene? PFFT. I laughed way harder than I should’ve.
Fight My Way: What an awesome group of friends. I’d love to see all four together more often, but I do enjoy the individual couple moments. Dong-man and Ae-ra’s blossoming romance against Joo-man and Seol-hee’s withering(?) romance is turning out to be a very interesting juxtaposition. I just hope whatever happens romantically, the four will never stop being best buddies.
Suspicious Partner: OMG THAT KISS. I mean, yeah, all the other stuff too but THAT KISS.
Ruler — Master of the Mask: I’m gonna have to leave this one. For now, at least. I’ve got too much on my plate and this is the one show I don’t go scrambling for when an episode is released.
Signal: Am I the last person to have seen this? It took me forever but I did it, I watched it! *throws confetti* In fact, I didn’t stop watching until reaching the very last episode around 8 in the morning when I thought my eyeballs would fall out. Was worth it.

Currently recapping: Man to Man
Tunnel: I fell behind on this and finally pushed through to the end, but it was a bit of a struggle. At times, the writing was flimsy, then other times, fresh and warm. The reveal of the main villain’s motivations felt lazy and dissatisfying. I’m sure in there is something poetic about the random cruelty of life and the tragic senselessness of it all, but instead it left me feeling hollow. Lee Yoo-young is outstanding, and that Sun-jae/Jung Ho-young fight scene was raw and powerful. Kudos to the actors.
Whisper: When I was watching the finale I kept imagining myself as a fictional member of the public in this world — someone watching the news and trying but failing to understand all the players’ convoluted relationships. It was headache-inducing, and perhaps only second to the headache I feel everyday reading the real news.
Lookout: Shi-wan is fun to hate, but his hypocritical father isn’t an equal replacement, so when they shift the focus to Dad, I kind of lose interest. I’m hoping that will all change when we get Do-han’s backstory, because so far I’m not feeling that delicious tension or suspense. The music gives this show its funky, urban vibe, but overall it feels unpolished.
Fight My Way: I never thought I’d say this but: why isn’t it Monday!? God, this show hurts so good. I’m so obsessed with this that I’ve pretty much been telling everyone I know (and some I don’t…) to tune in. The friendships are to die for, and Dong-man’s developing (instinctual?) love line with Ae-ra is everything. Let’s not kid ourselves though, they’re both nuts; but there’s something so perfect about their I’m-with-you-150%-even-if-it-kills-us-both relationship, that pulls me in and grabs me like a death grip in the best way. I’ll take two more servings please.
Circle: I really miss shows that have a distinct and bold sense of directorial and atmospheric style, which is often used to update a hackneyed genre (no hate, I love sci-fi). I thought this would be the one to satisfy that craving, but instead I’m left pretty disappointed with the look and feel. I’ll stick around for a few more episodes and maybe marathon it at the end, but I don’t feel any urgency to keep current with it.
Suspicious Partner: This show is enjoyable to watch. I think it does a good balance of rom-com and murder-mystery, and I like how the story keeps morphing as you go. We think it’s supposed to be about proving Bong-hee’s innocence, or Ji-wook’s fall from grace as a prosecutor, but now it’s about the moral complicity of defending (and letting go) the murderer they’re looking for, and how to catch him again. The fact that we have a lot of story to cover makes for great pacing and that’s always a good thing.

Currently recapping: Lookout
Fight My Way: I couldn’t make it past the first 15 minutes when I first checked out this drama, but I tried again a few days later and I’m so glad that I did. Park Seo-joon and Kim Ji-won anchor the story with their chemistry, but I love the extended cast as well. The writer has vividly portrayed that stage of life where youthful dreams clash with the reality of day to day life. I can’t help but root for everyone to get their happily ever after.
My Secret Romance: This show was my guilty pleasure every week, but I was disappointed with the ending. The final episode felt rushed, which was a shame, because I think the fans deserved better.
Mystery Queen: I was sooo on board with the housewife/amateur detective scenario in this drama and stuck with it, but that ending was so very strange. I think that our ahjumma and her partner in crime solving deserved more closure than that and I’m a little bitter.
Father is Strange: What I find really strange is that I haven’t lost interest in this drama at all. I like the idea of a 50 episode family drama, but I usually take a break at some point and then jump back in 10-15 episodes later. That’s not the case here. The pacing of the story has been fast enough that I haven’t felt the need to shelve it and I have watched every episode. As the drama passes its halfway point, there’s lots to resolve in the episodes that are left and I’m looking forward to every single one.

Chicago Typewriter: Well, things certainly came to a head this week. I loved that Seol moved in with the boys and their cohabitation hijinks, but all the happy scenes felt like the calm before the storm in both timelines. I’ve always felt my investment in the show was disproportionately with the 1930’s story, but the present half can’t really compete with the life-and-death stakes involved, the unfulfilled romance, and the heartbreaking camaraderie between the freedom fighters. I get chills every time they talk about their country’s as-yet-unrealized liberation and when they show the human-level sacrifice they all gladly accepted for their cause. At its best, this show feels like an ode to those young independence fighters, and that’s what’s going to stay with me long after it ends.
Circle: AAHHH. This show is amazing. I love the memory theme linking our main players together, and I’m surprised that they revealed the identities of our resident alien and amnesiac detective so early on. I’m also intrigued that the baddies in our show could very well be humans doing what they think is right, because there ain’t nothing as scary as determined, smart people acting on good intentions. I just hope that the show can keep up this fast pace to the end, since all we’re going to get is 12 measly episodes.
Suspicious Partner: I finally managed to find the time to catch up on this show, and I ended up bingeing the three weeks’ worth of episodes in one night. Ji Chang-wook is just as swoony as I remember him, Nam Ji-hyun is an adorable ball of puppy energy, and I love the underdog team of lawyers and their bickering, fun dynamic. Also, I’m all for both of our main leads making their way out of the land of denial, but it’s so much fun watching Ji Chang-wook try sooo hard to hold back his budding feelings that I’m happy for this situation to continue for a few more episodes. Delayed gratification is the answer, people!
Lookout: I’ve gotta give kudos to Lee Shi-young, she really sold the grief as a bereaved mother in the first week’s episodes. Yeah, her character went a little off her rocker, but I was totally with her and I wanted to punch that high school sociopath’s smug grin right off his face. I can’t wait until our Lookout team assembles and starts doling out some vigilante justice. Also, I think I’m going crazy because I might like Kim Young-kwang in this, fake smarm and all. It might be his hair though; it reminds me of grass heads I had as a kid.

Suspicious Partner: The existence of Lawyer Noh Ji-wook is already a heart-fluttering not mentioning how he’s taking care of Eun Bong-hee. Is the Law Firm open for new intern? Because I’d like to apply lol.
Lookout: Using a Mother who just lost his daughter (Jo Soo-Ji) as a tool of revenge, that’s what Jang Do-Han did as part of his revenge. I just can not with this kinda Leadership. No, never, forever!
Fight My Way: Bickering between Choi Ae-ra and Go Dong-man bring some butterflies in my stomach. I guess there’s a reason why BF stands for boyfriend and best friend, as they should be one and the same.
Chicago Typewriter: Story about Seo Hwi-young, Ryu Soo-hyun & Shin Yool are sad but beautiful. The script writer is good in delivering the messages. I’m a fan!

It's already displayed in Ep. 4 (start from 0:10:16), there's conversation between Jang Do-Han and The Priest.
Jang Do-Han: I'll make her arrest Yoon Seung Ro.
The Priest: She's a Mom who just lost a daughter. Are you going to use her for your revenge?
Jang Do-Han: That's why I dragged her in.

I think Jang Do Han also said he wanted to give her a reason to live.
This group got her out of jail and gives her access to resources she wouldn't have. And they do have a related end goal of taking down Prosecutor Yoon. Yes, Shi Wan did the killing, but Yoon was obstructing justice and letting SW walk.
I can understand why DH plays things so close to the vest since his revenge is about 2 decades into the making. I'm glad that Suji's unintentional revenge on Do Han using her for his revenge plan is that she is going to throw a wrench in things. She already has. I get the feeling that Do Han won't get the dictate the ultimate revenge; the ultimate revenge will be on Suji's terms.

Idk, this Jang Do-Han is seriously turn me off. This kinda two-face character playing saint & devil *sigh* is too heavy for my small brain to digest lol. I love Jo Soo Ji and her two cuties who always back her up in chasing bad guys.

I like JW in SP too. He is so swoonworthy, and I love how openly he has been caring for BH every step of the way. But the story is getting more cliched, and seems more of a typical rom com with thriller elements now. And when is the amnesia plot line coming through? Is CH going to be attacked in the park, which results in his amnesia or what?

I don't think Hyun-Soo will kill Chan-ho. Remember there are still 4 person around before the revenge completed. Hyun-Soo needs Chan-ho to clean up the crime scene.

I don't think Do han use Sooji though. He's right when he said Sooji needs something to keep living on. Imagine if they don't rescue her and she ended up in jail with Shi Wan playing victim card. I dont think she can live through that especially the grieveness is still raw. Eventhough he kind of using her to get revenge they are actually in the same page and Sooji even thanks him for helping her take revenge..

I must say that new dramas this season are just purely fun and interesting. In my opinion, first half of the year was pretty dull for kdramaland (managed to finish three dramas only).
I'm loving all the ongoing shows I'm watching every week but Fight My Way and Circle are my favorites.

What were the three dramas you finished for this year before this season? How many dramas do you average a year?
I'm loving this season as well. There are so many to watch that I'm already behind on Circle and Lookout which sucks because they seem to be DB favourites. Are you keeping up with/watching Suspicious Partner?

The three dramas I've finished were Weightlifting Fairy, Strong Woman, and Radiant Office. Then, usually I watch more than 10 dramas per year.
Suspicious Partner is one of the ongoing dramas I'm watching every week. I'm loving it as well (but not really my crack drama but still love) :) Ji Chang Wook is too hot to resist, isn't it?
I've been in a drama slump these past few months and I'm just glad that I'm truly back in dramaland because of these ongoing awesome shows.

With my new job and all, I find it so hard to come onto Dramabeans for the recaps because I don't have time to watch shows after work. ):
I'm still really loving Suspicious Partner because JW is an absolute sweetheart, BH is so endearingly headstrong, and EH is just... I just want to give him a hug every episode. Even side characters like Chief Bang and Hyunsoo are hitting it out of the ballpark with their expressions.
Despite Fight My Way not being extremely exciting or interesting to me, I'm still watching because I really want to see DM's journey toward fulfilling his dream. I love AR (dramaland's doing so well in terms of female leads recently!) and I want to see her become an announcer. That ex-girlfriend can get out of the picture, though.
Still love Man X Man, nothing's new there. I'll be heartbroken when it's over.
I haven't had time to start anything new yet, any recommendations? I'll need a new drama to watch once Man X Man is over!

But don't you think it was extremely funny when she'd come back whenever she broke up with another guy and he'd just stop thinking and do whatever she wants? All those years? He's so simple! Remember he only started "liking" her because somebody told him she liked him! It's really like his friends said, he's not really through puberty yet lol

Much as I enjoyed this week's SP episodes for JW and BH, I was so heartbroken over EH's lack of birthday celebration, and how happy he was at JW's single character message as a birthday message. Poor puppy! I hope he would find happiness and forgiveness from JW soon! JW, you have to forgive him. How can you not for such a long time?

I have been impressed with the rich storytelling of Seven Day Queen with complex characters and wonderful cast when I am not usually drawn to melodrama and saguek. It is also a definite plus that Javabeans and Girlfriday have both recapped the show!

Fight My Way: I love love love Park Seo Joon. He's one of those actors with the micro expressions that can pierce your heart. The chemistry of the whole cast is on point too.
My Sassy Girl: I've only seen Joo Won in Ojakgyo Brothers and I loved him there! Still not invested on the show. But I'm with javabeans on this one, "I'll stick around for the romance."
My Secret Romance: Need to catch up on this. I'm only on Episode 8 and I love that the hero is a hopelessly in love puppy. Kekeke.

I 100% agree with you in regards to My Stupid Romance. That show...never made a lick of sense and they *knew* it never made a lick of sense. I'd get email reminders to watch it from Dramafever and it would just be the leads chest and tummy. And I'm shallow, so I was down. But that last episode or two with everyone staring "pensively" into the middle distance while sappy music played? For loooooooong minutes at a time? I started skipping every few minutes just to get to the end of the staring into the distance nonsense.
My Secret Romance. Its no secret. You were terrible. Legit. Lead guy had a lovely torso, though.

MSR limped toward the end, tbh. I won't give anything away, except there were many flashbacks and fillers for some of the remaining episodes of the show. I fastforward through all the flashbacks and guess what? I am only left with about 15 -25 minutes of the show?

1. My Sassy Girl: it's merely because OYS and JW. LOL. But I promise to you this show quite hilarious, funny and so entertaining. I need some balance in my watching list that's another reason.
2. Circle: Oh my. My brain hurts every week because of this show LOL. I keep guessing and guessing yet my expectation got ruined, not like I'm goin to protest. But still, I kinda curious about how further I'll be "deceived" by this show.
3. Lookout: oh I just miss LSY in drama and can't just let Key+Seulgi out of my sight for a long time.
4. Beautiful Mind: for a million times. just because I cant. I have to. Janghyuk.

SP is currently my fave though not crack level. I still don't have one, but that's alright. I am enjoying the shows I'm watching now in varying levels. I've got SP, Ruler, FMW (but I'm behind two episodes already), and I've got Best Hit to check out. I decided to just marathon Circle when it's over. I need time and focus to watch this and I don't have the luxury right now.

Wow @javabeans so many dramas, how do you find the time to sleep?!
I'm catching up on some pretty old dramas. Finished Oh Hae Young Again (SO GOOD, Seo Hyun-jin is my heroine and Eric is smouldering), Drinking Solo (not too bad, Ha Suk-jin and Gong Myung are cute), and almost finished with Bad Guys (brain twisting).
Now seriously thinking about what to watch next, and more generally, whether to continue playing catch-up on my long to-watch list, or start on a currently-airing drama. The Best Hit looks like a good one to start especially as I'm a 1N2D fan.

I fell asleep within first 15 minutes of Circle and seeing how divided opinions are about it, I'll pass.
I really want to add Lookout to my drama but I am live watching 4 shows (Man to Man, Suspicious Partner, Seven Days Queen, The Best Hits, Good Thief - Bad Thief) and one weekend drama. So, I'll save it for binge watch along with Chicago Typewriter.
As for Ruler: Master of the Mask, finally dropped this one.

after Chief Kim (my crack for 2017) ended, I picked up Mystery Queen and I did enjoy it but didn't find myself anxiously waiting for the next episode. Then I jumped on board "Fight My Way" and boy am I glad I did. The chemistry between the cast. I've always loved a good friends turned lovers plot but this takes the cake. It's not sudden or anything. We get to see how those 2 have always been there for each other. AND THOSE SKIN SHIPS AND MEANINGFUL LOOKS GAH. why is not monday already???

Suspicous Partner: With the first episode, I didn't think this was quite on par with I Remember You, but I love it more and more with each week.
The Best Hit: As I expected, very fun.

Boku Unmei no Hito Desu: The best part of my week. Charming, and I missed Yamashita Tomohisa more than I can ever express.

This week I've watched more than my usual fare (2 dramas), so it's time for decisions.. Some are really fighting for my attention in the middle:
KEEPERS:
-Fight My Way: Because I need some pink cottoncandy with a tangy twist to get me through Monday-Tuesday.
- Seven Day Queen: I have high hopes for this one to fill the sageuk gap left in my heart by Rebel.
- Man To Man: Sadly, it feels like a ramyun bowl that got a bit soggy, but still seasoned with laughs. I'll finish it anyway.
UNSURE
- Circle: My blue worm smoothie of nightmares. I couldn't watch past episode 3 though I really want to. Hopefully I'll catch up later.
- The Best Hit: I wanted to see Yoon Shi Yoon but I only got 5 minutes of him surfing down a stairwell (and no, not like Legolas). Javabeans is right: When did the 90s become so ancient?

- Thief Nom Thief Nam: makjang salad delivered by Truck of Doom.

LOL at TNTN. I saw some clips, but maybe later when I have free time. I want to Im Jo Eun and Kim Ji Hoon. But the pattern of this writer is too melo and exhausting. At least makjang drama like Unni Is Alive has many characters, and there are some funny parts so it won't be too exhausting lol.
Other MBC drama, You're Too Much is also too exhausting to watch. Uhm Jung Hwa probably already tired with her character - for most scenes she applied similar pattern and she is also not very outstanding in melo dept. No one is doing anything in this drama. I dropped for now, and maybe will watch the last 2/4 epi to see how it ends.

I'm currently watching live:
Seven Day Queen: This show is just as what I expected it to be, and even more. It's a melodrama, but it doesn't have the looming depressing feel that I often see in other melodramas. The introduction warns of heartache, but it has a sense of melancholy with a ray of hope rather than ultimate doom. I completely enjoy LDG's take on Yeonsangun so far, and the child actors are adorable to boot. I hope the show will keep up its good work and remains solid until the end.
Suspicious Partner: Everyone in Ji-Wook's office is adorable.
On the other hand, the writer doesn't seem to have a clear growth trajectory for Yoo-Jung just yet. She's not exactly written to be just the vain and jealous second female lead, but at the same time she hasn't shown any clear signs of being anyone else either. She's rocking back and forth between being the downright hateful type and the identifiable, and I hope the show would make up its mind as to what it wants her character to be
Shows I've decided to put on hold for the time being, starting from next week:
Ruler I've got my fix of KSH in the latest episode so thank you show. However it's been quite late in the game and the show has missed so many opportunities to explore her character, so Ga Eun remains a missed opportunity for me.
Fight My Way Simply got too much on my plate, and while I like each character of the show individually, I'm having a hard time believing the two leads' friendship. I actually feel that Kim Ji-Won is less self-conscious around Kwak Dong-Yeon than she is around Park Seo-Joon. Or perhaps the friendships in Reply 1988 has ruined me in the best way possible.
Rebel: I remember reading a comment by a Beanie that says Rebel's rating would have shot up to 20% if the leads from Ruler were to star in that show, and I kind of agree, but I wouldn't trade anyone of the leads (or the cast for that matter) there for anyone else. They and the excellent writing makes Rebel what it is and I love them <3.
Shows I'm thinking of picking up:
Lookout: I wasn't impressed with the first few minutes into the first episode. I find the music and the scene clash with each other, but when I gritted my teeth and sat through it last night I found the rest flow much more smoothly.
My Sassy Girl: A sageuk that is better taken as a parodied version of both the original comedy and sageuk itself as a genre. When I've come to term with this it's much easier to put up with the overacting and the overdone humour. Fortunately the show doesn't take itself seriously, and reading about the references in the comment sections makes watching this a more enjoyable experience.
And finally, my resolution to keep back from watching Circle is swaying hard. God help me!

I gotta agree with you on Yoo Jung of Suspicious Partner. I was so conflicted when she was introduced because she was kickass and a possible friend to Bong Hee! Then I hated her and now I'm not so sure again! So conflicting!

I'm actually one of those who didn't hate her even when she was playing the mean girl card. The only thing that I'd condemn her for is her cheating on her bf and making it awkward and uncomfortable for herself to get back to the guys (not that EH was completely innocent either). To add to that, the show has made her interactions with Bong-hee more interesting than full of ugly tension and rivalry. Take her confronting Bong-Hee in the hallway. The show chose to emphasise Bong-hee's body language which gave away her lies, so I take Yoo-jung's challenge ('with me around he wouldn't...') as a way of getting back to the obvious lies she detected from Bong-Hee and out of pure jealousy than malice. Ji-Wook did make it very obvious that he was still affected by her presence so it's very natural that she keeps holding on to her vain hope that he still harbours feelings for her. That's why I'm kind of convinced that she can be redeemed but we haven't been shown her full trajectory yet. I just hope that she won't turn out to be the stereotypical second female lead.

@maskros What I loved about that scene was when Yoo-jung and Bong-hee both admitted that: I really actually like you when we first met! After that, I really couldn't hate Yoo-jung too. I hope the writer has great plans for her and that we see female friendships in the show too.

I like that she isn't the stereotype evil woman, and I don't think the drama needs to totally redeem her. She and the guy messed up, but it would be nice if drama showed that this didn't have to mess up her entire life....that she can grow as person. Say sincere apologies (instead of all that "thirsty" crap) and know that no one owes her anything: not forgiveness, not friendship. I am more interested in how the friendships will turn out than I am the serial killer.

For some reasons, I don't want big names to be casted in a sageuk written by writer of Rebel. Like the casts of Rebel & Kings' Daughter. I want them to continue casting underrated talents or rising talents instead. I don't mind big names with talents, but it will be hyped /over hyped that I am afraid, for the sake of ratings, it will disturb the writing - for eg to insert more romance etc.

I wish that would apply to any project with a hint of quality honestly. To improve upon feedback is one thing, to change the direction of the plot to please the mass is another matter. This can happen even with dramas that cast unexplored or underrated talents such as Reply series (looking at you husband hunt) and the more infamous CITT.
So all in all I think it has a lot to do with how faithful the writers are with their original concept. I just hope there would be more and more writers who are driven by their imagination and philosophies rather than by the demand of others. I believe if a writer has arrived at that level they wouldn't mind casting big names because they wouldn't be swayed by the mass no matter what anyway.

I wouldn't swap out Yoon Kyun-sang and Chae Soo-bin for anyone else, not even beloved beanie faves like YSH/KSH. They owned the roles of Gil-dong and Ga-ryung, I can't picture that opening scene or any of their scenes together with anyone else.

Regarding Rebel, that might be true but I can't imagine Yoo Seung Ho playing the Mighty Child ?. I remember laughing whenever Gil Dong got away with his disguise while trying to pass city gates. Yoon Kyun Sang is so tall and huge, by stature alone, he stands out of the crowd.Anyway, I like him and especially Chae Soo Bin as Ga Ryung.
The thing is that Ruler should have hit 20% easily but it's stagnating because of the writing and direction. Kim So Hyun is sorely wasted here. Even if the show shifts the focus to her now, I don't think that is the only or real solution. Take for example the Crown Prince, the show might be centered on him but I am not sold at all due to the writing.

True. At first when someone commented on one of the first recaps for Ruler that the show felt juvenile I didn't quite get what they meant (I genuinely didn't understand, not that I disagreed with them), but in recent episodes it started to show. Very often we're left with infuriating rather than thought-provoking questions, which a good/ solid show shouldn't do. I'd be willing to shut down my logic if the show didn't take itself so seriously.
I seriously have given up on Ga Eun. I'll be the first to cheer if the show proves me wrong later, though, but I'm not pleased with what the writers have got to offer until now, and I don't think they're capable of delving further into her trajectory at this stage, since we've got so many others to take care of. On top of that, Lee Sun the commoner's story has yet to kick start either. His character, too, doesn't deserve to be ignored.

Since Circle is a short series, I'm waiting until it's over to binge. I'm pretty excited though since folks are really digging it.
So I'm watching:
Fight My Way - Friends-to-lovers is my jam. I smile, laugh, cry throughout these shows and I know I'm going to do it with this one. I want Dong Man and Ae Ra together YESTERDAY and yet I don't because I want this romantic tension to build up until I'm screaming at my TV.
Suspicious Partner - I love these two but I'm not as invested in the murder story as I am with our couple.
The Best Hit - I like it but I'm ready for more Yoon Shi Yoon right now.
All is Well - This is my third daily drama and I'm starting to develop a thing for them. I used to watch "The Young and The Restless" with my mom years ago, so I can get into easy-to-watch makjang dramas. I have about 25 episodes left and I know that Chef Dad is going to lose his sense of smell again. I hate Hui Jeong and Hyung Jun so much right now. They never should have broken up because then they wouldn't be on this whole tear to destroy each others lives and the lives of pretty much everyone around them. Maybe they can die in a car accident together. Min Woo can then live with Jin Gook (even though he's a total fuck up) and Jeong Eun.

I am now getting more vested in the murderer's plot line in SP because I am wondering how the amnesia kicks in. Is CH going to get amnesia because he is attacked by the real murderer in the park? I assume he is going to be attacked since he has been found out in his betrayal. JW and BH are still keeping my eyes glued to the screen because I love their chemistry so much. I like how JW constantly denies his attraction and concern for BH, but gets pulled and pushed in her direction in the end. It's so cute.

Father is Strange - I was kind of annoyed with Joong-hee when he kept doing Mi-young's job for her. I mean, I know he cares about her and I'm totally on board that ship, but it was nice seeing Mi-young actually being good at her job after all those initial struggles, not to mention the time and energy it took her to land the said job in the first place.
The Best Hit - Well, idk what variety means to others, but this kinda fits the brief to me. I mean, the main concept of variety is delivering laughs right, and this certainly did that. And its called a "variety-drama" so we can't expect like slapstick variety or something. And the meta jokes and the puns were absolutely hilarious. I'm just dejected with the numbers it pulled :/

Sometimes, JH can come across as overly enthusiastic when he likes a person. See what he is doing to Papa Byun? In a bid to recover the lost times he has with him, he invites Papa Byun to a movie, baseball game and etc. I can understand why he does MY's job for her, although I agree with you that he should have let her do it on her own. After all, she is capable in her own right.

I was cringed when he kept on doing MY's job since she's capable and some of the stuff felt awkward for her. But it seemed like a momentary burst of affection since we see JH letting MY do her job later on.

Lookout: Not quite caught up with this one. I've only seen the first week's episodes, but Lee Shi-young is doing a great job. When she took Shi-wan hostage at his school and put a gun to his head, I was face-palming, but hey, I also want to punch the sicko to a pulp so I found it hard to judge her for it.
Suspicious Partner: I will say it: I am OBSESSED. This show has got me hook, line, and sinker. I honestly love everything about it and it is pulling me in directions that I did not expect with this killer story. The writing is amazing, the cast is just perfect in every role, and I am so impressed by the director (and it's his first solo directing gig!). After I Remember You and now this, I have fallen hard and fast for this writer and her ability to blend so many different genres without seeming all over the place. Ji-wook is just so... good. I feel like characters like him are curiously rare on TV. It's proof that you can write a good character and still have him be interesting. I've fallen in love with Ji Chang-wook all over again and want to rewatch Healer once this is done (and I Remember You, and maybe check out Protect the Boss... this writer, man). Nam Ji-hyun also is doing such a fantastic job, and after this and SKL I can't wait to see her in more leading lady roles.
So many other dramas are airing but I just don't have the time. :( I really want to pick up Circle and Fight My Way, though.

I like Lookout. It's a nice blend of story and action. LSY in her role as SJ is badass, and she is calm but emotive when need be. Watch out for DH! He's a character that can make you hate him to the core or like him.

I just came back from an amazing two-week trip in Korea and Japan. Now, I'm trying to catch up with my shows.
I am now current with 2D1N. Same with Circle and Fight My Way.
With Circle, the expectations were through the roof. The cast, crew, and teasers were just too good to be true. Circle is a slick show. The concept is different, and I was really looking forward to it. In certain instances, it does its job. But overall, Circle is just an ordinary police crime procedurals. It does not have its own unique style, just like @murasakimi mentioned. The director of the teaser did a much better job than the director of the drama. The music is too frequent and too loud. The best scene for me is the one without music. See if you can spot it. Because it's rare. I wish this drama is more darker in terms of style. Signal did that very well, and I keep wondering if the PD of this drama is the PD of Signal. How cool would that be? The drama also has so many plot twists, the writers forgot about the characters. I can't relate to the characters even with the flashbacks. I will finish this drama, but this will not my go to Monday-Tuesday drama.
That belongs to Fight My Way. I like slice of life. And this is right up my alley. The four leads are a hoot. They are wonderful together and by themselves. The characters are grounded with relatable issues. Right now, the main leads have their own issues to deal with before they turned lovers. I like that. I also like the writing and PD of this drama. Who are they again, and what were their previous dramas? I also want to live in the rooftop. The view from the rooftop is gorgeous at night. Finally, Choi Woo Shik-shi, please come back to drama land. Oh, how I miss you and how I love you so!!

-Chicago Typewriter: What a heartbreaking episode. Now I just need my happy ending for the present trio.
-Nine: Finished it yesterday and it was amazing. Sometimes the complicated time-traveling mechanism left me scratching my head and made me dizzy trying to follow all the events unfolded. But mostly it left me satisfied. Maybe this is unpopular opinion, but I really like the ending. Leaving us with this version of Sun-woo feels right, since he is the one who learned from all his past (or is it future??) mistakes.
-Fight My Way: Finally we can see the fantastic four together in one scene, and I love it. And this week I believe we have met all of the important characters, including meddling ex and jerk rival, and I can't wait to see what the writer has in mind for all their respective arcs.
-Crime Scene 3: Eps 5. Gosh. This is makjang galore. From the criss-crossed romance, family background, workplace intrigue, to the murder itself. Ji-yoon's expression when she found out that her boyfriend had an affair with another man was priceless. And Eun-ji being Ji-hoon's mom is never not be funny.
Though the most important thing is we'll get to watch Jang Dong-min next week. Woo-hoo!! I'm super excited.

I don't see how the trio can have a happy ending in the present in CT, what with Yoo vanishing soon. He can no longer hold onto his body. Unless the writer comes up with something that ensures the trio can live happily ever after... though I doubt that.

Suspicious Partner: I Remember You is a fine drama and I don't think SP could surpass it. While I love Ji Chang Wook, SP is not as addicting as I Remember You to me. I find myself get bored at some parts. But Dong Ha's appearance heat things up so I'll hold my opinion about the drama until it ended
Father is strange: no one like ra young and chul soo? I love them so much. Their love line is so cute and endearing to me. Jong hee and Mi young also cute, but right now I'm obsessed with the maknae couple
Golden Pocket: It's over a few days ago and I think I'm glad I watch it. It's your usual daily drama and yet it's not. There's just something different to it that makes me like it I think

I skipped most of maknae couple's scenes in Father Is Strange, which is weird because I was quite obssessed with maknae couple in Father I'll Take Care of You. LOL. They are goid looking but I don't find their relationship adorable. They might not so popular here but in other site like you tube, they are the most popular couple are the maknae. Mostly because of Hwayoung and Ahn Yeo Seop. On the other hand, I think Ra Young could match better with the twin bro and maybe I will be more interested.

To be honest, I wasn't interested in RY's love line either. Her love line isn't that interesting, and her love interest seems to be on the boring side. I agree with you, had her love interest been the twin brother, I would also be more excited. I think RY has more chemistry with the twin than the love interest she has now. I am more vested in MY and HY's love lines. I find them to be more interesting, and my eyes would be glued to the screen every time they appear on the screen with their love interests, or potential love interest in the case of MY.

Because the other two couple, both four are excellent actors that made their characters alive, hence make us believe about their feeling. Hwa Young seems to be the only one do the acting and she is like forcing herself to like this guy ? Maybe if would be better if they just casted her best friend in Age of Youth or the twin bro. I think Ra Young is a lot more interesting as a bitchy sister /SIL in their house.?

The maknae couple is cute, but I did get sort of bored with them after they got together. I really liked it when Chul Soo had a crush on Ra Young and Ra Young thought he was gay and with Young Hee so she just decided cheer him on and be his friend. I think their relationship would have worked better as a developing friendship that later turns to romance since they still have over 20 episodes to go.

I think I started liking them at that part, when Ra Young thinks that Chul Soo is gay and she decided to cheer him on while still being his friends. I think that they got together so early in the drama will turn out to be a big revelation in the end lol

Ohhh, now that I think it like that, it sounds right. She might look better with the twin brother haha. I guess I'm always invested in maknae couple (Laurel, Five Children, to name the few) so that's why I'm cheering for the maknae couple in Father as well haha
While I feel bitter about Father I'll Take Care of You (about so many things that didn't sit right with me) but the maknae couple is the only thing that keeps my heart stay in the drama. I never expect to dislike Kim Jae Won's acting so it was a bit of a surprise to me that I ended up not liking him (or the Han family in general) and don't really bother about his loveline

I have the same feeling as you about Golden Pocket. I thought the ending was slightly rushed. Overall I think what I like about it is the heartwarming moments of family, regardless of being blood related or not.

I think that they ended the drama in a rush due to many pre-emption the drama is having so that's why it felt weird to me. But I'm just glad that in the end, Se Na and Ji Sang are together, because I've loved them since they bicker the first time and I love Se Na's honesty. She always complains, but in the end she loves her family with her whole heart
And yes, I think that's what makes me love Golden Pocket so much. The heartwarming family moment that touched me in the heart. I said this because I was watching four different daily dramas at the same time (Golden Pocket which is good, Shining Eun-soo/Still Loving You which is a bit of meh, I'm Sorry Kang Nam Goo which is soooooo makjang, and Person Who Gives Happiness that's too full with tears and sadness) and it's Golden Pocket that I waited everyday for the new episodes to air. I guess I fell in love with the drama in a whole :)

Although I didn't watched as much shows as you, Javabeans, I've been up to my eyeballs with all the newly premiering shows and sporting the same dark circles from all the binge watching. Not to mention, real life is screaming for some attentions as well.
This week alone, I watched Man to Man, Circle, Fight My Way, My Sassy Girl, Seven Day Queen. I'm also tentatively trying out Lookout, Suspicious Partner, and Best Hit, by that I mean, I checked out some episodes and haven't decided to stick with them. Sadly, I dropped Ruler after 2 weeks of watching, hoping maybe to pick this up when it's done and I have the spare time. I'm also looking for time to squeeze in Tunnel, Chicago Typewriter and Missing Noir. On the horizon, I'm waiting for Duel (airing tonight), Forest of Secrets, Korean Criminal Mind, and A Life Time Love (C-dramas) to premiere. *faints

I haven't started on SDQ yet. Is it nice? Is it worth the time investing in the characters and plot? Ruler is a bit of a disappointment after the five year time skip. The writer doesn't seem to be sure of the direction he wants to take with the show, but I am still on board for YSH.

Seven Day Queen is good for me, enough to leave me wanting for more. The visual, the plot, the music and etc. felt seamless. And best of all, they have good focus and you know where you're heading with the story and characters, I can't help rooting for even the most villainous character in this show because they did a great job establishing the characters, their flow of thoughts and their motivations.
Ruler was a bit hard to follow right off the bat, I could see some plot holes and characters imbalance, the plot felt a little too ambitious, so I was left feeling disjointed and disconnected to the show. I love Yoo Seung-ho and Kim So-hyun individually, but I wasn't feeling the chemistry there, so that one was a drop for me.

Between these dramas and checking out Netflix for the first time in months only to find new seasons of stuff I want to want...been a sleep deprived.
Fight My Way: Our 4 main characters feel much like real people and their worries and regrets are so relatable (even though I did get my desired career). This week, I got to see Ae Ra almost getting her dream and having it taken away. I got to see Dong Man thought he could give up on his dream and then finally deciding to chase it. So many feelings. The humor and wistfulness reminds me of watching the Answer Me series.
Lookout: My newest addiction! And the latest episodes (7-8) were amazing with a riveting blend of action and emotion. Lee Shi Young is killing it on both. I'm glad we got a win at the end of the episode! And I actually grew to somewhat like Do Han by the end. Yes to our vigilante team and awesome motorcycle chases and down with corrupt government officials!
Suspicious Partner: I agree with murasakimi that it is a perfect blend of rom-com and mystery. Except for framing Bong Hee and holding Chan Ho hostage (I hope CH isn't dead!), I actually find that I don't hate the murderer. Damn you, Dong Ha! Damn you, Myung Seok! Ji Wook and Bong Hee are so adorable. I love that move they do when they put their heads together to the same cell phone. And the other characters in the firm are really endearing too.
Chicago Typewriter: I'm with tipsymocha on feeling chills whenever they talk about the hope for liberation. I find the present timeline sort of filler-y sometimes, especially in recent episodes, but I also think that's what makes what the characters did in the 1930s so important and poignant. They sacrificed so that the future wouldn't have to endure that kind of suffering. I was pretty irked with Jin Oh interfering with the plagiarism issue and with the stalker girl (what is your point?!), so I'm looking forward to the resolution this week!
Father is Strange: I can't believe I'm halfway through a 50 episode drama and am still psyched to watch it every week. I love how Ahn Joong Hee is like shorter than everyone. It really matches his insecurities and the "runt of the litter" feeling that he exudes. Lee Joon and Lee Yuri are killing it in the comedy department. I replayed that scene of Mi Young playing stand-in on set to many times!

Lookout: DH is bae! I don't care how smarmy he is, or how hypocritical he seems to be, I like him all the same. There is more than he lets on, and I am very interested for SJ to come to understand him and his ways one day, and work together with him to defeat the bad guys.
FIS: I have never been so psyched to watch each episode of this extremely long show too. In fact, this is my first 50 episode drama in a long time. The last was some show starring Kang Ji Hwan, and whose title I had forgotten. I can never get over JH's second guessing himself as to whether it is normal for him to care so much for MY. It's so cute!

I am watching way too many dramas right now but it is summer and school is out, so at least I have time! I'll not bore you with my list but I have two comments:
1. I am sorry to see Chicago Typewriter end. Episode 15 made me so sad. sigh... It has been a great show - I'm gonna miss our trio!
2. So far in my drama watching history, sageuk is not my favorite genre but I keep trying. I had high hopes for the current crop but Mask was kind of boring to me and My Sassy Girl was just too over-the-top. But then I started Seven Day Queen and was sucked into the story immediately. I'm gonna cry a lot with this one, aren't I?

Episode 15 of CT makes me sad too, especially the end. Now that I have watched the episode, I can understand why Yoo was killed in the 1930s, and why the trio had to be broken up then.
I am still enjoying Ruler, only for YSH. His acting skills is phenomenal, and except for the veterans, the others' acting skills pale in comparison to his, and makes watching it a bit awkward.

The writing is weak, but I am still enjoying this drama. Hwa Gun - if this character is portrayed by someone better - maybe I would appreciate her character more.

I was trying to be all, no show gets left behind this season. I'm already wayyy behind on Circle and Lookout, and I have yet to check out My Sassy Girl. I don't know how @javabeans is making it work.
I'm loving Suspicious Partner. I'm absolutely loving JCW's portrayal of his character. Ji-wook is like a weird tsundere-esque character and when you pair that with Bong-hee's bubbly clingy weirdness, it just works. Eun-hyuk has grown on me, so much so that I wan't to see something good happen for him.
My Secret Romance was a total mess. It was a case of when an interesting premise sucks you in, only to not deliver later on. Argh! It could have easily been 10-11 eps with all that filler packed in there. It wasn't even that long of a series to begin with writers! I'm pretty close to being disinterested in Sung Hoon. I like the guy and all but he seems so typecast at the moment, he needs to do something different.

MSR was a total mess at the end. I was hoping to watch a pure rom com without any killers or murderers or kidnappers, and this rom com came along. It was initially still serviceable, doing what rom coms usually do, albeit with cliched tropes and all. However, the ending... the ending is filled with fillers and flashbacks, it reeks of lazy writing. Can't the writer put more thought into their separation angst?

I'm so happy for Park Seo-joon. After Hwarang, I wanted him to be in a project that would not waste his talent with such a badly written character. And thank drama gods, Fight for My Way's Dong-man is just great. The emotions (those sad eyes) Seo-joon put into him just bring out the best in Dong-man.
Kim Ji-won is also fantastic. I rarely gush about actresses but she is just a delight to watch. I screencap all her expressions.
Speaking of great actresses. Can we talk about Circle's Gong Seung-yeon? The stark contrast between emotionless Byul and vibrant Jung-yeon, I swear they are two different people.

This week's K-dramas was a week full of fluff & comedy for me:
Suspicious Partner: They finally, finally got there! It was agony (although entertaining) watching Jiwook and Bonghee pine for each other, so the ending of ep 16 really made me squeal! What's gonna happen to Chanho though *bites fingers in anticipation*
My Sassy Girl: Finally caught up with the episodes...it's zany and wacky, that's for sure, but Idk if they can keep it up...love the colourful shots though!
Fighter of the Destiny: This C-drama ended this week, and I was wondering of any Beanies here were watching it too! I started it for Luhan, but in the end it was the supporting characters and their relationships who won me over most! Tang36/Moyu ftw~~ Changsheng's visuals tho..

I might check out The Big Hit since it sounds like the kind the show I need right now. Assuming that it pulls it off well. Yoon Shi-yoon is one of those people who always light up the screen and make you feel fluffy and happy inside.

Seven Day Queen - I could see this drama making it to my obsessed category by next week! I'm so glad JB and GF are recapping, especially because this wasn't the show I expected to bring them back! Maybe because you guys left off with shows like Goblin and Legend of the Blue Sea, which were more trendy/hyped than this. I guess I just expected you guys to recap those whereas this came as a complete surprise! I'll be keeping up on the recaps for this one. Such a strong opening and I can only hope for it to get better and better.
Lookout- I'm behind! I'm enjoying this, but need to find the time to get going on it again.
Chicago Typewriter- Kind of got behind on this, but I'm slowly finishing the last few eps. I LOVE Go Kyung-pyo and Yang Jin-sang together. For some reason their dad little relationship is really getting to me.
The Best Hit - Lol, well, I officially have no idea what a variety drama is, but I enjoyed it anyway? It was really funny at certain points. Lots of leading ladies have been catching their cameo boyfriends cheating these days and each reveal has had its own sad-comedic flair...but Lee Se-young catching her BF cheating while in a cardboard BOX in the same room and then trying to escape in it has to take the cake. It just has to. I agree that the show was a bit messy at first, but it started to come together more towards the end.
Father is Strange- Catching up quickly! I haven't loved a family drama this much since Ojakyo Brothers.
Dropped:
My Sassy Girl- I just don't have enough room in my heart for this one. Maybe later? Definitely not it the mood for it right now.
Ruler- Not invested enough.
I'm still hoping to have time to check out Man x Man when it comes out on Netflix, but I'm worried it may get lost in the shuffle. I'm already planning to marathon Duel if it satisfies those watching.

I can't stress enough how much I love FIS! I am normally neutral to YJ in the show because she is such a big bully, but her recent episode with her company which sees her displaced to the sidelines is really hard to watch. How can such discrimination exist just because one is pregnant? I am wondering what she is going to do about it since her husband isn't exactly rich to begin with, so the potential loss of her job might cause difficulties in their small family.

I agree with you on YJ. It's such a real fear for women everywhere, and I'm sure it's worse and more blatant in Asian countries. I sympathized with Joon Young when he told his mom how he feels when his dad is spending so much time with Joong Hee, but in that scene with YJ and YJ expressing her fears and frustrations, I sort of wanted to smack him upside the head and shout "you don't get it!"
I really like how the show covers the politics of being a woman. With weekend dramas getting a lot of exposure, I hope these messages will have some sort of influence.

I'm almost leaving Kdrama World and getting back into J-dorama World. I always believed that Characters Make actors and increase their value in real world. So i'm not fan of any actor or actress from any country's tv media. I'm not a fan of anyone and rarely actors have any affect on me.
Korean - Dropped Partner - b- grade
Fight For My Way - I would have like the story better if it wasn't walking the same path numerous other shows have already done. I, actually feel romance part is forced. This is what you expect from a kdrama. All the unfulfilled dreams is following the same predictable and boring pattern. Nothing feels original in this show.
Circle - This is what you call good writing and equally good direction. Director knows how to utilize the actors and scriptwriter knows how to bring good out of actors via his characters.
Japanese - Boku Unmei no Hito, Desu - A GRADE
This unpredictable romance. Guess the fingers size not only for the ring but also for the Bowling Bowl. There isn' much comedy in this show but still its humour works well. As usual it doesn't force comedy(or everything else) like kdramas do and that's why it attracts more and more attention. Genuine circumstance creating positive atmosphere with good Manjai Act from G.O.D and Makoto.
Taiwanese - Love, Timeless - now i have learned to expect atleast 1 illogical and nonsensical event or scene from any Taiwanese drama. But Childhood Friends to Lovers works better in this show than Fight for my Way. Time Travel is just a plot tool here. Real Spice of the drama is social friendly relationship of 6 characters.
The Perfect Match - 1 illogical scene per episode. As expected. I have lot a bit of love for this show but i want to say This show's romance beats down many other kdrama romances easily. Among all the nonsense we the viewers are served with few meaningful and deep moments of human emotions and that's enough to rate this show B+ GRADE.

Favourite College dramas:
- Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok Joo!!! Feel good drama.
- Cheese in the Trap for something a bit different, but warning: the ending upset a lot of people.
- Drinking Solo: set in the Noryangjin world, focuses on the teachers and their students trying to pass the civil service exams. Comedy and realism.

These are all great dramas! I wish I could forget them so I could rewatch them all again with the same joy (well I did forget the second part of CITT for completely different reasons).
I especially loved Drinking Solo, the trio was so fun and relatable. It's a shame that there aren't that many college centred kdramas.
Well, If you recommended it I will finally bring myself to watch the last episode of WFKBJ. I haven't watched it yet, I seem to a bit of a problem with letting my favourite dramas go.

Sungkyunkwan Scandal is a GREAT idea actually, since I studied this semester about Joseon and the Sungkyunkwan and watching dramas set in those times helps me a lot. Moon Lovers and Hwarang certainly helped me last semester with Goryeo and Silla, imagining Park Hyung Sik or Lee Jun Ki in the world my teacher describes makes me much more willing to pay attention heh. I will start it asap, thanks!

I sadly have to keep my current drama viewing to just a few shows. But the few are so good in so many areas. Wonderful production values, music, cinematography, directing, acting and writing.
Circle- This is so reminiscent of the US-made sci-fi shows that I used to love to watch. So full of clues and twists that keep us on our toes and leave us flabbergasted. And besides that, I like how thing have started falling into place, and the events are beginning to make more sense, even with the mystery still to be solved. So many little details ring true and remain consistent throughout time into a sci-fi future world. For instance, I thought it was great how the buildings of the present are made to really look 20 years older in the future. So happy to have this well-paced show to look forward to.
Chicago Typewriter- I'm listening to this show's OSTs right now and the sad, nostalgic feels and regret just keep coming back. So much sentiment in the music and so appropriate. My tears join those of Hwi Young as he thought of losing Soo Hyun. It's a beautifully written show, bringing the main characters full circle to be redeemed and to fulfill what they promised 80 years earlier. I can see the bitter-sweet resolution and it will be more sweet than bitter, I believe. And it's still so beautiful to look at. ☺ ?
Suspicious Partner- Marrying the crime-legal and rom-com genre has seldom been done so well. I can laugh as full-heartedly as I sigh or shed a tear with these characters, and it all feels so real and so good. The actors are fantastic as an ensemble and individually, the interactions and the dialogue, especially the banter are gold. I'm glad that JCW chose this to be his final project before enlistment.
These shows make me want to download OSTS and screenshot every change in expression. ? ? I believe we can definitely thank the dramagods and all producers for giving us more good quality shows in this half year than we usually get 2-years together! ? ?

Speaking of OST, I am very taken with the one in Lookout and CT. Whenever I listen to the songs in CT OST, I would be reminded of the various scenes in the show, and that would make me nostalgic and sad. The scenes are all so poignant and evoke so much feelings in me.

Goblin OST album has been the most played for me until recently because I finally have new songs! hehe! Not that I'm complaining because the songs in Goblin are just really addicting and really good, but I want new ones. And so I've got them thanks to SP and Ruler. I did not watch CT but I read tons about the OST, so I will listen to them.

Circle: YJG and the story!! I'm so intrigued as to what's going to come next. Where is WooJin in 2037? What on earth is Gong Seungyeon's character? Are there really aliens? How did Bumgyun end up in 2037 as KJH??
Ruler: Going to keep watching for YSH and KSH. It's not the most tightly written story and they've taken too long to develop GE. But everytime YSHxKSH are on screen together, my eyes are glued.
Fight my way: I'm only 2 episodes in, but it's a nice change of intensity from the other two shows above. And Kim Ji Won is so pretty!

Actually, I am still not very pleased with GE's characterization in the show, but it seems there is going to be a change in her story line soon if she were to enter the palace as a court lady. Hopefully, her story line will be more interesting when she serves in the palace as a court lady. Right now, I am in only for YSH.

I do agree GE's character still leaves much to be desired. So far it's disappointing, but coming into the show as a KSH fan, I will stick around and hope for the best. The show made me a YSH fan now, and I do enjoy the pairing.

Re: Ruler, I'm like you. I agree with the general sentiment especially in the recent recap and what Hanshimi pointed out, but I'm still watching. I enjoy the show enough and I've come to accept the shortcomings, so I just enjoy the acting of the leads.

Sad that CT ended this week. ? Yoo Ah In in epi 15 is ❤ Especially with full black. I don't know how I will survive 2 years without him.
Anyway, Go Kyung Pyo gonna be big after this. As long as his agency does a good job. I didn't really enjoyed his acting in Jealousy Incarnate, I thought he looked quite green. But in Chicago Typewriter, he went all out with his acting. In the absence of many top actors because of military service, I hope his career will keep rising. If he follows Yoo Ah In's steps- I will be happier. I am keeping my eyes on him & Kang Ha Neul to have at least one hit project before their enlistment in the next 2-3 years.

100% agree. I just watched ep 15 of CT and can't contain my feelings. Yoo Ah In and Go Kyung Pyo are doing an excellent job. I only saw them in small roles before (in SKK Scandal or Reply 1988) and thought they were ok, little did I know they would be able to be this good. I was happy to hear that GKP is already getting offers for lead roles, and will look forward to YAI's come back after military service. :)

Yoo Ah In is one of those established actors in both drama & movie. He is definitely already in another level, that I don't surprised with his performance but still amazed everytime he appears in my screen. He is not hyped like many other hallyu stars, since he prefer not to do typical romcom, and he is more on heavy role, so some drama fans not really knowing him.
I was pleasantly surprised with GKP that I feel like want to register to be member of his fanclub.lol. I hope he will keep doing interesting role in the future.

YAI is indeed a great actor. I didn't like his way of portraying the character at first when I started watching CT, but he has proved to be so much more than I expected when time passes. So it came to my understanding that the person I don't really like was Se Ju, the writer, not YAI, the actor. Now I place him in my heart together with JW.

I didn't watch the jealousy one, but I really liked Go Kyung Pyo from cantabile... he has this chemistry... and hes only face shines sympathy. I hope he will be given more wonderful characters to play.

I binged watched Pied Piper the other month n I really love it especially our charismatic lead guy (the negotiator)! Lookout give me the same vibes but we got our badass lead gal here who is now a cop-turned-virgante-fugitive ! I like Do Han's grayish character too. Love their vigilante team on the whole !! I hope to get to know more about the mysterious priest who may or may not be with their team ....
Suspicious Partner is not bad too. Now that viewers know who exactly our serial killer is but we don't really get who does he really target on (sexual offenders, rapists or adulterers??)
Sadly awaiting for the finale of Chicago Typewriter. Episode 15 is kinda sad as more truth and scenes on their past lives revealed. I hope that our 3 leads will get their long-deserved happiness in the present timeline.
Waiting for the premiere of Duel as well. It gives me the feel the same angst determined parent bend on saving his/her child just like in God's Gift 14 Days but Duel injects another kind of fantasy or rather sci-fi of clones.

I love Pied Piper! I think it was one of those rare dramas which never lost steam and had a great finale. Shin Ha Kyun and Yoo Joon Sang were superb.

Wow JB, watching 10 dramas and recapping one? I'm barely keeping up with 2.
That's too bad about Ruler. New writers are usually more successful when they write in pairs or groups.
Pyunsoohwe's Dae-mok (Heo Jun-ho) is a good actor. I still remember him from "The Last Empress" (2001) and "Jumong" (2007) but this one note script isn't doing him or anyone else a favor.
I'm so not into fluffy sageuks but since there is history behind "Seven Day Queen" I can ride with it like "Moonlight."
Waiting for the main leads to start.
"Circle" is exhausting in a good way. Random theories keeps popping up even when I'm not thinking about the show lol.

*gulps* so few recappers and beanies watching Seven Day Queen? It's only the first week and I'm gushing over it too much!
Ruler Put on hold. I gave up trying to decipher the character's motives, behavior and action because they keep changing. The only one consistent is Hwa Goon and I still can't take Yoon So Hee's acting in this role. The writing is messy and the PD is not helping. There is nothing subtle here. While I anticipated the pairing of Yoo Seung Ho and Kim So Hyun, I'm afraid I don't feel the chemistry even when show gives the most dramatic OTP moments.
Seven Day Queen This was such an unexpected crack. The best saeguk in the week. It made me laugh, sent shivers down my spine and made me worry about the inevitable that is to come. Yet, I can't tear away from the show. I like happy endings that's why I generally avoid shows featuring terminal illness. However, this one is too good to miss even though I know the outcome. The writing is solid , a very admirable start for a new writer. The direction and execution is one of the best I've seen recently. The young actors are such a joy to watch and Lee Dong Gun is really impressive here. Next week will be the transition to adulthood. Please continue to be good, I need an awesome saeguk!
My Sassy Girl I ranted so much in the ep 1/2 then something just clicked in the 3/4. It wasn't so much that ep 3/4 was miles better but rather, I came to terms with what the show is. It isn't saeguk, it isn't even your rom com. It's an over the top, in your face, parody of parodies. It reminded me of those Hong Kong movies I've watched a long time ago especially Stephen Chow's. There's a meta, double-entendre and bawdy humor. My Sassy Girl just need to be funnier and I am set. Alternatively, they can switch the tone to more serious because both Joo Won and OYS are up to it. I'll be keeping my eyes on this one.
Circle I screamed whenever I get zapped up to heaven where there is no Yeo Jin Goo. That is just not right, is it? I love Kim Kang Woo too but at this moment, I can't take my eyes off the boy. Gong Seung Yeon is also a surprise hit for me. I kind of wrote her off after God of Noodles but she's really good in this show. The drama is really making my head spin but in a good way. The only bad thing is the cliffhangers. If you can depose a queen in 7 days, it's really too long a time to wait for the next episode of Circle.
Lookout Strangely, I feel less invested this week. Perhaps after the huge traumatic loss, everything else seem quite mundane. It's Do Han who stole the show this time. I did wish he wasn't the lead character last week but I am not that sure anymore.
Looking forward to my puppy in Duel, I've never felt as excited with my dramas for quite a while.

I am for now sticking with Ruler & My Sassy Girl for my sageuk dose. Something about Ruler that made me want to come back every week. I admit there is something/ someone that made me not interested from the beginning, for me to follow SDQ for now. I am not that hard to be pleased, but I am so hard to be convinced with. LOL.

It could be only me that always avoided drama which has the actors that I am not fond of. In this drama, it is the main actress. I don't hate her and I don't think she is bad actress, but I choose to avoid most of her drama because I found her off and couldn't connect with her acting. I am not fond of Kim Young Kwang too, but I can skip some of his parts because there are another 4 lead casts in Lookout. I'll still check SDQ later because I love YWJ.. But maybe mostly will read recap. Joo Won on the other hand used to be in my avoided list lol, but now I like him.

I don't have a problem with PMY. In fact, I think I liked shows like City Hunter and Healer more because of her than her co-stars.
There are however a few very popular actors which I avoid unless there's something else about the drama which makes me watch despite it. I am also afraid that once I start watching the drama, I'll say my piece of mind about the actor who I do not like. I don't think anyone who loves the actor would like to read my writing - "he has dead fish eyes".
Curious...when or in what drama did Joo Won changed your mind? So far, I have yet to change my opinion on those few actors I avoided. Actually I do really want to watch Fight My Way because I think it could be the drama to change my mind on Park Seo Joon ?. He looks like he could make me laugh but this time it's more the lack of time than anything else.

I totally get you, watching your least favorite people in a show doesn't make it enjoyable at all. That why I still couldn't start Lookout in earnest even though I adore Kim Seul-gi, I just couldn't stand Kim Young-kwang, and FF-ing is not an option because I can't focus. I tend to avoid Nam Ji-hyun and Kim Go-eun too. *wary eyes and waiting to be staked by the their fans

Let me join you guys in the chant for 7DQ to keep being good.
I love the tone it sets in the first two eps so much. It's so poignant but not at all depressing. Reading tidbits of history and myths here and there has so far convinced me that it's not heading toward utter despair either.
With the mature cast, I've got a hunch that this one will not rely on pure fluff and that it will try to balance history, romance and character development. How well it will fare in this respect is not something I can speculate, so I can only hope that it will not burn me the way Ruler has done.

I must be cuckoo, there's something about the ex in FMY that I really like and I want to know so much more. Was she always like this, why did he like her in the first place? What was the initial attachment, what broke them up over and over (money, I think, and DM's emotional inability to get over his 2007 debacle), did she help him a lot at some (one) point? Did she used to be nice? And I can't wait to see her left at the curb due to AR but we the audience will probably have some twisting and turning before then, right? Because something has to fill our episodes and give our actors stuff to emote over!
I'm really enjoying hating Hye Ran.

I also thought the 1st episode of Fight My Way was rather meh but due to lack of shows to watch, I tried it again and was surprisingly hooked.
Seven Day Queen is probably the drama I'm most excited about though. It's sooooo good! I realized that I just love sageuk dramas more than any other genre.
