Suspicious Partner: Episodes 19-20

A new murder case brings up a lot of personal issues and insecurities, causing arguments and hurt feelings that are going to take a while to untangle. Is it ever acceptable to lie for another person’s well-being, and what gives someone the right to make that decision for someone else? It can be possible to lie to someone for the right reasons, but that won’t stop them from feeling betrayed when they discover the truth.

EPISODE 19 RECAP

Ji-wook tells Bong-hee to bring Hyun-soo to dinner, then he tells Chief Bang that they need to take this chance to sound out Hyun-soo. And when Yoo-jung shows up unexpectedly, she’s invited to join them. As soon as they start eating, Ji-wook asks Hyun-soo if he heard that forensic investigator Chan-ho has disappeared and is under suspicion for the chef’s murder. All innocence, Hyun-soo says that he doesn’t know the guy.

Yoo-jung decides to announce that she’s re-opening Hee-joon’s murder case. She says that the killer could be in this very house—little does she know how right she is, yet how very wrong.

Everyone ignores her, and Chief Bang brings up Chan-ho again. Hyun-soo still looks like butter wouldn’t melt in his mouth, but a flashback shows us that when Chan-ho had pulled himself from the river, Hyun-soo was waiting for him. Laughing, Hyun-soo joked that Chan-hoo looked like he was about to die, and Chan-ho froze in terror. Oh no…

Ji-wook tells his guests that he was supposed to meet with Chan-ho before he disappeared, but that Chan-ho canceled the meeting abruptly. He tells Yoo-jung to check all of the CCTV footage between the park where they were supposed to meet, to the spot where his car was found.

Ji-wook and Chief Bang exchange a look that says that this isn’t working, because Hyun-soo isn’t responding as they’d hoped. Ji-wook remembers the one time he saw Hyun-soo shaken up—when he’d talked about witnessing someone he loved being hurt. Ji-wook says casually that they should see if Chan-ho has a record involving violence towards a woman, and he watches Hyun-soo’s reaction.

Later Eun-hyuk gives Hyun-soo a ride home, apologizing for talking shop throughout dinner. Hyun-soo tells him that he got a new job as a motorcycle messenger, and Eun-hyuk offers to use his services as often as possible.

Eun-hyuk asks why Hyun-soo hired Bong-hee as his lawyer, and Hyun-soo gives his usual answer, that his case was so similar to hers. Eun-hyuk reveals that a lot of guilty people approach Bong-hee for the same reason, and that he was trying to feel Hyun-soo out to see if he’d done the same.

As she drives home, Yoo-jung thinks about the end of the dinner. She’d hung back to ask if Bong-hee was going home soon, which is when she learned that Bong-hee is living in the same house as Ji-wook. Although Bong-hee had tried to explain that room and board is part of her pay, Ji-wook said yes, they’re living together, like it’s no big thing.

Once everyone has left, Bong-hee joins Ji-wook to help clean up. He couldn’t be happier to have her all to himself, and the simple act of washing dishes turns into an excuse for Ji-wook to stare adoringly at Bong-hee. She asks if the house feels empty now that it’s just the two of them, but Ji-wook says that he likes the quiet. Bong-hee sees him giving her the eyes and orders him to knock it off, but he leans closer, all But this is just my face.

Across town, a woman sits next to the body of her husband, a knife sticking out of his chest. She calls her lawyer, Eun-hyuk, and tells him calmly that her husband is dead. He rushes to her house, and when he asks what happened, she asks if he’s obligated to keep her secrets. He says that’s true, but he also can’t make false statements.

The wife reveals that she didn’t kill her husband, but that she plans to confess to his murder. As Eun-hyuk watches her being taken away in handcuffs, his voice narrates that a lawyer has two important obligations: to keep a client’s secrets, and to tell the truth. He wonders which is the correct choice when those two obligations conflict with each other.

Ji-wook makes Bong-hee a cup of the tea she bought him for his insomnia, and they sit to talk. He asks if something about Hyun-soo is bothering her, and after a brief hesitation, she asks what would happen if it turns out that she’d asked him to defend a murderer.

Ji-wook reminds her about presumption of innocence, and says that the only thing bothering him is that Hyun-soo lied about his alibi. He tells Bong-hee that he doesn’t suspect Hyun-soo of murder, which is a baldfaced lie, but he sticks to his story even when Bong-hee makes him promise not to keep anything from her.

Ji-wook does ask Bong-hee not to see Hyun-soo alone anymore, adding that he wants her to stay where he can see her twenty-four hours a day. He sounds like a typical jealous boyfriend, ha. Bong-hee has a little fun with him, pouting that twenty-four hours is a bit much, so he asks if twenty hours is okay. She sips the tea and gags from the bitter taste, and he bitterly tells her that he drinks this every day. Because she bought it for him. Cute.

Ji-wook discusses Hyun-soo with Chief Bang, noting that Hyun-soo has only reacted to two things: when he was in jail and Ji-wook asked about the assault incident, and when Ji-wook asked Chief Bang to research whether Chan-ho had problems with women.

Ji-wook asks Chief Bang to speak with the women who were assaulted by the chef. He also asks Chief Bang to keep all of this a secret between them, saying that he’ll tell Bong-hee if and when they discover that they freed a man guilty of murder, because he wants to tell her in a way that will hurt her least.

When Yoo-jung questions the wife about her murder confession, Eun-hyuk explains that she wasn’t in her right mind due to years of abuse from her husband. Forensic evidence shows that her husband died of a skull fracture, so Yoo-jung deduces that the wife pushed him down during a fight, the fall killed him, then she stabbed him after he was dead.

Afterward, Yoo-jung asks Eun-hyuk if he thinks Bong-hee is innocent of Hee-joon’s murder. He says that it never matters whether or not he believes his clients, since he defends them anyway. But he adds that he did believe Bong-hee, though he doesn’t know why. As he turns to go, Yoo-jung asks hopefully if they can share a meal sometime, but he leaves without answering.

Eun-hyuk tells his team the manufactured story that his client’s husband came home early, they fought and she pushed him, and he fractured his skull. Looking at the evidence, Ji-wook says that there were no marks of abuse on the wife’s body the day her husband died. Eun-hyuk explains this away, quickly moving on to say that the couple’s son has given a statement that he believes his mother killed his father in self-defense.

Eun-hyuk says that this is a simple case he can handle alone, but Ji-wook offers to helping him anyway. He even volunteers Bong-hee to join them, saying that she can learn a lot, so Eun-hyuk tries to get rid of Ji-wook by accepting Bong-hee’s help alone. The two men bicker like children, Eun-hyuk repeatedly trying to refuse Ji-wook’s offer and Ji-wook insisting simply because Eun-hyuk doesn’t want him to, ha.

Hyun-soo makes a delivery of more evidence documents to Ji-wook’s office. Ji-wook tells Hyun-soo that they’re working on another murder case, but that this one is different from his, pointedly mentioning that you can get a lighter sentence for turning yourself in.

Ji-wook invites Bong-hee to join him as he goes over the evidence, and she asks why he’s so determined to help Eun-hyuk with this case. Ji-wook says it’s because Eun-hyuk is acting weird about it, but Bong-hee disagrees, saying that Eun-hyuk is always weird. Ha, she’s got a point.

Ji-wook can’t figure out why this case seems off to him, and he thinks a spilled bag of fresh groceries at the scene seems to indicate that the wife was expecting company. Bong-hee thinks it’s strange that the wife would stab her husband after he was already dead—it seems needlessly violent.

Ji-wook pats Bong-hee on the head proudly, crooning that she’s improved a lot. Grinning, she wonders if the person they were expecting was their son, then mentions that he’s downstairs with Eun-hyuk right now.

Ji-wook listens in while Eun-hyuk preps the son for his testimony. The son says that his father abused his mother for as long as he could remember. Ji-wook interrupts to ask if his father also abused him, and why he moved out of his parents’ house.

Eun-hyuk tries to stop him, but Ji-wook says that they need to be fully prepared for anything, including unexpected questions. He asks the son if he ever imagined fighting his father once he became an adult. He says that he knows someone like that, thinking of Hyun-soo and how he used to dream of growing up and getting revenge on those who hurt someone he loved. Eun-hyuk ends the conversation before the son answers.

After the son leaves, Eun-hyuk confronts Ji-wook about his interference. Ji-wook orders Eun-hyuk to look him in the eyes and tell the truth, asking if the son is the one who killed his father, and when Eun-hyuk can’t meet his gaze, he assumes he’s onto something.

Eun-hyuk tells Ji-wook that the wife had come back from buying groceries to find her husband dead from a head wound. She immediately assumed that her son had been there and they’d fought. She cleaned up any possible evidence and decided to take the blame.

Eun-hyuk reminds Ji-wook that he’s bound by confidentiality, but Ji-wook cites the law stating that a lawyer can’t make a false statement. He can’t understand why Eun-hyuk is willing to let an innocent person go to prison while the real culprit walks, and Eun-hyuk says that he’s trying his best to convince the wife to tell the truth.

But Ji-wook says that Eun-hyuk is failing, because all he has is a false confession and a trial looming closer. Eun-hyuk declares that if he can’t convince the wife, then he’ll honor her wishes, but Ji-wook reminds him that that means letting the real murderer go free.

EPISODE 20 RECAP

Soon the husband-wife murder trial date arrives, and the son watches tearfully as his mother faces imprisonment for a murder she didn’t commit. Ji-wook joins Bong-hee in the courtroom, saying that he’s not here to cause a scene, though he refuses to meet Eun-hyuk’s gaze. Bong-hee watches as the mother gives her crying son a smile as if to say, “I’ll be okay.”

Later at the office, Bong-hee asks Chief Bang to get her everything on the murder case. She works around the clock, studying the evidence and growing more and more disheveled. The guys watch her warily, and Ji-wook explains that when Bong-hee is working on something challenging, she forgets everything, including showers.

She scares ten years off Ji-wook’s life when she comes upstairs to talk to him, looking like a ghost with her wild hair. She tells him that she’s met with everyone involved in the case, and even went to the crime scene. Ji-wook is all, That’s fantastic, but your hair… He looks a bit horrified that she’s been going out like this.

Bong-hee tells him that she didn’t find anything new, but that something still bothers her. She says that when she was on trial, the thing she hated most was when her mother worried about her, so they both acted like everything was fine. She’d noticed that during the trial, the mother and her son were doing the same thing, “I’ll be fine, don’t worry,” to each other with their eyes. She can’t understand why a son who loves his mother that much would let her take the blame for a murder he committed.

We see what really happened that day—the son fought with his father over the way he treats him and his mother, and his father yelled that he should beat him to teach the son a lesson. The son said that his father should disappear, then he stormed out of the house.

That much Bong-hee learned from the son, and she knows that the wife came home to find her husband dead and assumed that her son did it. Bong-hee says that what they need to discover is what happened between the time the son left his father alive, and when the wife found him dead. She tells Ji-wook that she talked to the man’s doctor, who had him on medication for possible cerebral hemorrhage. She tells Ji-wook to request a new autopsy, guessing that he died spontaneously of an aneurysm.

Ji-wook couldn’t be any prouder, though the way Bong-hee keeps scratching her dirty head gives him the heebies. He pulls her in for a big hug anyway, telling her that it’s just a hug from boss to employee, though he also admits that that’s an excuse, hee. Smelling her dirty hair, he repeats his comment from several years ago: “You’re dirty, but you’re pretty.” Awww.

The second autopsy proves Bong-hee’s theory correct, so Yoo-jung drops the murder charges. They thank her, though she tells them to stop since she knows they don’t mean it.

Bong-hee is less than thrilled to see Ji-hae in the courthouse hallway, suspicious of her old nemesis when she acts friendly. Ji-hae fishes for information, asking when her relationship with Ji-wook started, and Bong-hee snarls at her.

Ji-hae asks if it started the night at the hotel, but by mentioning the hotel, she tips her own cheating hand. Bong-hee realizes that the only way Ji-hae would have known that is if she were the girl who went to the hotel with Hee-joon. Busted.

Bong-hee says it’s all water under the bridge now. But then she snatches Ji-hae up by the shirt, saying that what bothered her was being bullied and called unethical. They end up in an all-out, hair-pulling brawl, which Ji-wook rushes to break up when he finds them.

Ji-hae says nastily that he and Bong-hee seem close, and Bong-hee tries to lunge at her again. The guys and Yoo-jung follow Ji-hae and Bong-hee to the elevator, and when the door opens, Ji-wook leads Bong-hee inside and shuts the door in everyone’s face, making Eun-hyuk laugh at how cute they are.

Ji-wook attempts to fix Bong-hee’s tangled hair, but she pulls away to do it herself, saying that she can afford to lose a few strands. Ji-wook pouts that he doesn’t like that, and Bong-hee warns him not to flirt. With an impish glint in his eye, Ji-wook asks if it’s working.

Bong-hee lies that it’s not, so Ji-wook steps forward, backing her into the wall and asking huskily what he has to do to make it work. RAWR. He peers at her stunned face closely and reminds her to breathe, and when she waves him away, he says with awe that it’s working.

He follows Bong-hee into the parking garage, smirking happily. She talks about mothers and how they’re willing to sacrifice themselves for their children, and something sad moves across Ji-wook’s face as he agrees.

Bong-hee says that she likes him but she wants to see her mother more today, and of course he latches onto the “I like you” part like a dog with a bone. He likes her idea, so he decides to visit his mom, too.

The moms are currently arguing over whose child is better, so when Bong-hee arrives to surprise her mother, Ji-wook’s mom frowns jealously. Ji-wook also shows up to see his mother… at a mausoleum. Wait, what?

He stops before one cubicle, which contains an urn and a photo of himself as a child, with his father and his mother—but not the mother we know. This is the woman who gave birth to him, and Ji-wook cries as he apologizes for not visiting more often.

Hyun-soo gets an upsetting phone call, and he calls Ji-wook to meet him. He tells Ji-wook that he heard from the woman that he protected in his assault case, who told him that someone was asking her about him. Ji-wook cringes and apologizes, and Hyun-soo asks why he still doubts him.

Ji-wook says that it’s because Hyun-soo lied about his alibi, and Hyun-soo laughs and says that everyone lies. Ji-wook counters that there are different kinds of lies, and many different reasons to lie, and Hyun-soo points out that Ji-wook doesn’t know his reason.

The tension grows until they both laugh, and Ji-wook says that being suspicious of everything is a habit leftover from his days as a prosecutor. He admits looking into Hyun-soo, but says that he didn’t find anything, and he promises it won’t happen again.

Hyun-soo thinks about it, then he says that he thinks Ji-wook is lying. The two guys joke about his quick wit, then he says they should meet up again soon, with Bong-hee. Ji-wook grows wary and says that he’d like to, but he’s very busy these days.

Ji-wook is still unsettled when he arrives home, but he fibs to Bong-hee that everything is fine. He doesn’t look happy about lying to her, and he thinks that sometimes, to hide a big lie, it helps to reveal a small truth. So he sits Bong-hee down to tell her about his family.

Ji-wook reveals that he has two mothers—the woman who raised him, and his birth mother, who had been best friends. His father was killed in a fire when Ji-wook was little, and his birth mother had been taken to the hospital for smoke inhalation and died soon after. Her best friend took Ji-wook in and raised him as her own.

He’d visited Mom today for lunch, missing Bong-hee by mere seconds. They were joined by CEO Byun, who turns out to be Mom’s husband and Ji-wook’s stepfather. This explains so much! I love it.

Bong-hee takes this in, then makes a confession of her own—she has two fathers. She says that she’ll tell Ji-wook her story later.

He asks if she wants to go to bed, which Bong-hee takes the wrong way, and they stare at each other, wide-eyed. Ji-wook tries to stammer an explanation and just ends up calling Bong-hee crazy for thinking he meant that, and they both stand to storm off indignantly.

It backfires when they nearly crash into one another, and the sudden closeness (not to mention that they’re now both thinking of that), creates a moment that Ji-wook can’t resist. He stares at Bong-hee’s lips and leans in to kiss her… but their coffee mugs collide, making a loud CLACK that snaps them out of it.

Bong-hee heads to her bedroom, then doubles back to tell Ji-wook nervously that if he can’t sleep, he should just imagine her next to him. She rushes to her room, and Ji-wook asks through her door, “Can’t you just stay beside me?” Her indignant “No!” makes him grin.

He’s still smiling when he goes to bed, and he falls asleep thinking about how adorable Bong-hee is. But his sleep is disturbed by the recurring nightmare of the fire that killed his parents, and the mysterious man who walked through the fire towards him as he screamed.

Bong-hee also goes to bed smiling, but before she sleeps, she opens her scrapbook to look through her family pictures. She touches the face of her father in one photo to wish him a good night. It’s the same man from Ji-wook’s nightmare, who was there the day his parents died.

Upstairs, Ji-wook wakes from his nightmare in a cold sweat, gasping for air.

Epilogue.

Bong-hee plays with a coin, deciding that if it comes up heads, she’ll accept Ji-wook’s feelings. But no matter how many times she spins it, the coin always comes up tails. Eventually Ji-wook comes over, complaining that she’s been making noise all day, and he tosses the coin before stomping off. This time it lands on heads, and Bong-hee squeals with excitement.

COMMENTS

Wow, I’d almost forgotten that one almost throwaway comment in an early episode by Ji-wook, when he’d seen a picture of Bong-hee as a child and thought she’d looked familiar. But it seems as though they have met before, a long time ago, because that was Bong-hee’s father in Ji-wook’s dream (at least, it’s the father in her photo album—we don’t know anything about her other father yet). It’s not really surprising that their families would be connected, with one of their fathers having been a prosecutor and one who seems to have been wrongfully accused of a crime, according to Bong-hee’s mother. I’m guessing that Ji-wook’s father’s downfall (as mentioned by District Attorney Jang) is all tied up with Bong-hee’s father’s misfortune, and once we learn more about Bong-hee’s past we’ll have some more clues to try to fit together.

I find Ji-wook’s fascination with Hyun-soo really interesting, in large part because he seems to actually enjoy their little confrontational power plays. He senses that there’s something off about Hyun-soo, but all he knows for sure is that Hyun-soo lied about his alibi. It doesn’t necessarily follow that Hyun-soo is the killer, and while Ji-wook is pretty certain that he is, the truth is that we don’t know for sure. We do know that Hyun-soo was on the roof disposing of a body when he thought Bong-hee saw him, but we didn’t actually see him kill Hee-joon. He was there at the chef’s house shortly after the murder, but it was Chan-ho who was holding the murder weapon. This drama has proven several times that even hard facts can be very misleading, making innocent people appear guilty and vice versa. Until we see Hyun-soo actually murdering someone, there’s always the chance that he hasn’t really killed anyone.

Here is where I admit that I find Hyun-soo endlessly fascinating. We know he’s a scary guy with a troubled past, that he’s working through some sort of revenge plan where he’s systematically getting rid of seven people (whether or not he’s doing the killing himself, it does seem to be Hyun-woo’s plan), and that he very well may have done something terrible to Chan-ho. But something about him is extremely compelling, making me want to learn more about what makes him tick, and not just his motive for the murders. I want to know how his mind works, how he’s justifying these killings, and why he’s staying so close to Ji-wook and Bong-hee. It’s actually a brilliant strategy, because this way Hyun-soo can manipulate how they see him—for example, when he figured out that they were getting suspicious of the honesty of his alibi, he was able to turn that to his favor by confessing that it was a lie.

It was an effective way to keep himself in their circle, because now Hyun-soo can say that he’s being honest with them, and it’s even true. I have a feeling that despite his humble jobs and low profile, Hyun-soo is actually pretty damned brilliant. His whole conversation with Ji-wook in this episode seemed heavy with innuendo and hidden meaning, but they’re both so good at it. Their banter was a true meeting of equal minds, and for that reason, if nothing else, I hope that Hyun-soo’s true intentions aren’t uncovered too soon. I could watch him trade barbs with Ji-wook for hours and never get bored.

Of course I want to know Hyun-soo’s motive too, because the few bits of information we have tell a very dark and sad story. We can put the puzzle pieces together, and though there are still more gaps than information, it seems as though the teenage girl Hyun-soo imagined in the park (a sister, maybe?) was assaulted, possibly even killed, and it’s likely that the seven people on his hit list all had something to do with it. Given that we know that at least one of Hyun-soo’s victims had a habit of assaulting women, it’s a safe assumption. But since Hyun-soo seems to have included Chan-ho in the seven people he needed to make “disappear,” it worries me to think that Chan-ho was involved, because I want him to be better than that.

Onto a different subject—as hard as it was to watch, I’m actually glad that Eun-hyuk and Ji-wook finally had a fight. No matter how hard Eun-hyuk has tried for years to get back into Ji-wook’s good graces, there’s still a huge wall between them that’s not going to come down until they both decide to do something about it. And as cute as Eun-hyuk’s devotion to Ji-wook is, a sunny disposition and loud, adorable declarations of love aren’t going to get the job done. I still think that their main problem isn’t even about Yoo-jung—it’s about Eun-hyuk’s betrayal of Ji-wook’s trust. Ji-wook still has all of that bottled up inside, so this fight about a client hopefully released a bit of that tension, and will make it easier for them to have the fight they really need to have. It’s going to be a doozy, but they’re never going to repair their friendship until they get brutally honest.

I’m worried about the lying that Ji-wook is doing to Bong-hee lately, and how it’s going to affect their budding romance when she discovers that he hasn’t been honest with her. I believe that he’s withholding his suspicions about Hyun-soo to protect her, not wanting to upset her with the knowledge that she helped a killer go free until he’s absolutely sure. But Bong-hee isn’t going to see it that way, and I’m scared that when she finds out, it will create a rift between them that they may not be able to repair. Hopefully Ji-wook finds a way to help her understand that he really is thinking of her feelings when he lies to her.

AHAHA Ji Wook*

Was it just me or was this the cutest episode ever -- their little interactions qq. Oh no ... I knew there always has to be this link between the two characters' dark pasts ... I'm hoping it's just a bit of a misunderstanding/skewed view like it always is ... QwQ HWAITING! Please bring the romance between BH and JW closer !!

I don't know about cutest but it definitely had the most content...so many developments. We finally are getting to know more about Bong Hee and Ji Wook..I am very intrigued about the past of all characters now (apart from YJ) ..was under the impression that CEO Byun was Eun Hyuk's father. The romance was just so squeal worthy..Ji Wook needs to stop doing that or Bong Hee will soon get a breathing disorder only..along with the rest of us..and I also really really like the interaction between Hyun Soo and Ji Wook..it so brings out the prosecutor in him. Finally, I need some thing to make my mouth stop hurting. All the grinning and squealing is just too much

I also thought that CEO Byun was Eun Hyuk's father. But he still can be. And wouldn't that make it even harder to repair the relationship and forget the pain of betrayal if he was?

I had thought about that, too. What if they ended up being step-brothers as well? That would explain why Ji-wook can't get rid of Eun-hyuk as easily as he can YJ.

3

I had thought so too but then they have different surnames. Maybe Byun is also a close family friend (like CEO Byun's BFF, just like how how Ji Wook's bio and adopted moms were BFFs)

Haha. I love how aware JW is of his effect on BH, and how he utilizes it to his benefit. It's so hilarious!

Omg, it's the best thing ever. It's so funny and adorable when he turns on the seduction, hehehe!

It almost seems like he's happy she rejected him, because he's having so much fun pursuing her. People cling to him all the time that now that she's playing hard to get, I'm pretty sure he's enjoying this!

Ji Chang Wook is the best at those seductive looks. I remember thinking the same thing in Healer as well. Those eyes have the ability to bring so much emotion, I know I get butterflies every time Ji Wook looks at Bong Hee!! He should get a license for those eyes because they can be used as a weapon haha

Oh the little things he does with his eyes and lips (and I am not even talking about the kiss) *fan self* JCW is def the kind of guy that knows that he's attractive.

4

@boomboompow when he just bit his lips a little during the dishwashing scene - swoon

I think Ji-wook always knew he was attractive, but he never realized that he can use that to his advantage until now when he can mess with Bong-hee. I love that he's surprised when Bong-hee reacts to his close proximity and then ready to exploit that reaction to his advantage. In any other character/actor, it might be off-putting, but JCW portrays Ji-wook's innocent playfulness so well.

3

Me too! During the last episode, it didn't seem like he was doing any of it on purpose (since they were always sort of physically close anyways). He definitely picked up on her reaction in this episode and milked it. :) Ji Wook is growing up!

Thanks for the recap!

-Wait, so is CH okay or not? I need answers!
-How do JW and BH make washing dishes look so cute? How is everything they do together so cute? This episode literally killed me.
-The running gag of convincing CEO Byun that he heard stuff wrong or hallucinated because of his age is hilarious to me.
-I loved the smart back-and-forth between HS and JW in the coffee shop. This is shaping up to be a fascinating battle of minds so far.
-Wow, now I'm curious about BH's dad(s). I feel like every week I'm curious about a new character or relationship - that just proves how good this show is, or just how addicted I am, haha.

I think I finally realized what internally squeeing meant because of this couple. My grandma's visiting and she's sleeping in my room so I cannot squee as much as I wanted. Have you ever shoved a duvet in your mouth to prevent alternating peals of laughter and high-pitched screaming from bursting like an unrestrained wave? I am both pleased and embarrassed to say I have. I don't know how Bong-hee is still alive, all the looks he gave her this episode almost killed. As expected, Ji Chang-wook was born to be in a rom-com.

Thank you for the recap!

It will be so interesting to see what relationship Eun Bong Hee's father has to the fire. Was there a mention that her father was in prison in a prior episode? I may be just imagining this ...

I loved seeing the return of the unwashed, nose-to-the-grindstone Bong Hee! I forgot how much I missed her dirty hair haha!

Already can't wait for next week ... I'm such a sucker for Suspicious Partner

They really go to the extent to make BH's hair look oily and messy because she didn't wash for days. I am impressed. I was laughing out loud at JW's disgust at her dirty hair, but he still made himself touch it. Aww, so sweet!

How did the writer know I wanted a scene just like that one? I rewatched the first episode earlier this week and was actually hoping for this! The scene was acted so well too! The contrast between the awkwardness of the first one and all the love and sweetness of this one! It shows just how far they've come. Hehe, he is so in love already.

Perhaps Ji-Wook will enter a noble idiot phase with the reveal of the "your father killed my father" trope and he will Bong-sookie stalk Bong-hee from afar?

Yes they have definitely made a few throwaway comments about Bong Hee's father(s?)! Her mom mentioned that prison visits are hard when BH first got incarcerated; also when her mom applied for the pizza job, she mentioned she had to take care of her husband. I'm not sure if that was truthful or not, but I do remember thinking it was strange since I thought BH's dad had already passed away based on the context of their first mention of him having been in prison.

Yeah, in the early episodes during Bong Hee's visitations, i believe there was reference to having so much suffering with her father?

I also vaguely remember the comments about supporting an husband ...

Thank you, @mianmianl for reminding me of the pizza shop comments ... i had forgotten ^^

At first, I was really put off by the seemingly random drama they were throwing at me with Bong Hee's father being the one from Ji Wook's dreams. I was thinking that they were just trying to add drama for drama's sake, ya know? Then I actually thought about it, and realized that it wasn't actually random at all! I was much happier with that thought and am looking forward to another "suspicious partnership" to add to the mix between the two's fathers.

I always assumed that Bong Hee's dad must have been one of those kdrama dads who meant well but probably got led into something shady which led to the vague prison reference and why BH's mom said she had to support her husband.

But now it looks like something really nefarious is afoot. And I wonder who is BH's other dad. I wondered if BH's other dad was JW's bio dad, but then if that were the case, it would have been weird for JW's bio mom's BFF to not know about her friend's husband's acquaintance, especially if they were close.

Ji-wook turning on his charms... how can you resist him, Bong-hee?!!! ? Learning about his history though, wow, didn't see that one coming about both his parents dying and having Mr Byun and his wife as his adoptive parents. That man coming in during the fire though... was that Bong-hee's dad?

While I'm super excited for our Ji-wook + Bong-hee ship to sail, I'm also excited for Ji-wook and Eun-hyuk to be friends again. It's nice to see that Ji-wook is still looking out for Eun-hyuk, but at the same time, he respects Eun-hyuk and his strength as a lawyer.

And Chief Bang! He's so right, it does seem like he has a four children. ?

Just wanted to add that that tense convo between Hyun-soo and Ji-wook was so perfectly done. Like you don't know if they're agreeing, disagreeing or setting traps for the other person to get caught.

This show is so addictive on so many levels - the romance and the mystery aspects of it are both keeping me on my toes!

I love those tension-laden discussions with double-meanings. Hyun-soo is turning out to be quite the formidable foe, he's smart and quick to realize things. I think he's already caught on about JW's feelings for BH...which I'm afraid he might use to get back at him.

I also got the feeling that EH and JW's heated argument wasn't simply about the case, but also about their history. EH's speech about complying with the client's wishes even if that means he suffers, is a parallel to his his relationship with JW after the betrayal. But it was nice to see JW questioning if EH could handle that suffering, because it shows that he still cares about him. Awww, stop breaking my heart boys :'(

I'm afraid that Hyun-soo will use JW's feelings for BH against him, too. The only misstep in that conversation from JW is when he said he would be too busy to have dinner with Hyun-soo and Bong-hee. I felt like he opened it up for Hyun-soo to have dinner with only Bong-hee, then. I love that they are both unruffled in their mind games and double-speak, but it also worries me that maybe Ji-wook won't win the game before Hyun-soo kills again.

I need to rewatch it, but I felt like JW implied both him and BH would be really busy in the near future and that his implication that BH wouldn't be having dinner with HS made it obvious that JW was protective of BH.

0

@asianromance that's possible. It could be the subs I had, too. Doesn't Korean not really use pronouns? My subs could have just plugged in "I" to make it grammatically correct when he could have been implying more "We".

0

I am quite glad at the way BH-JW ship is sailing too, but I want JW to reconcile with EH too. I love how they confronted each other in this episode, each hanging onto their own ideals and arguing for them. This is exactly what they lack in their relationship. Honesty. If they had been more honest with each other, all this unnecessary friendship angst would have been moot.

Required fields are marked *

I was commending our OTP's efforts to communicate in the last episode... but with this "Truth vs Secret" theme, I admit JW's reluctance in divulging more about HS is giving me major anxiety. He is walking a fine line between noble idiocy and logical concern. I hope they do not drag this too much.

3

I was concerned about it too, since BH is so sensible about it already. But this theme thing is a great idea, so many POVs.

2
reply

Required fields are marked *

Me too. I need for JW and EH to make up already. If anybody can remember the Lee Brothers Bromance in IRY, I need some of that for JW and EH too. And by "that", I mean the bros investigating something together because their respective levels of intelligence just match the others.

On that note, several more thinhs I loved about this week's episodes:

1) EH eavesdropping on BH and JW's conversation about HS being fishy. After that, EH flat out offered his help to JW, and of course we know JW refused, but if the two of them could just pair up together, I'm sure the case could be cracked sooner. I keep remembering how in tune JW and EH is to each other as well so I really need them back together soonest.

2) Even though JW refused EH's help, EH went ahead and played his own mind game with HS during that car ride. These conversations are so smart, I'm drooling. It's obvious that EH is just as stubborn as JW is about being there for each other.

I really love that in spite of their history, it's obvious that Ji Wook and Eun Hyuk can't be without the other so I'm also wondering how much deeper their friendship actually is. When and how did it start?

With that, I'm also worried that Ji Wook's stabbing nightmare is probably ominous and that Eun Hyuk is going to be the victim. I keep getting this vibe that Yoo Jung will get caught in the crosshairs as she reinvestigates BH's case, and if so it wouldn't be a surprise if Eun Hyuk might get hurt there somewhere (cue: Little Bro Lee Min in IRY). Eun Hyuk hurt is a speed ticket to mending his friendship with JW.

And also, what is up with the Eun Hyuk and Yoo Jung backstory? I need more reveal on that end too. I refuse to believe that YJ has felt nothing for him at all. Sure she's self centered, but I just can't have EH continuing to be a pathetic little puppy. The guy deserves some love too and I think he deserves more thab what he's getting right now. Yes, he had a lapse of judgement brought by raging emotions and what else, but the guy is pretty decent.

One thing I don't understand, why do the leads in drama always have to know each other since childhood, & then remember it in adult life AFTER falling in love & think of it as fate, that they were meant to be from the start etc etc. Seems unnecessary sometimes...

6
11
reply

Required fields are marked *

I don't know either, but it seems to be a trope in Korean dramas that the leads must know and fall in love with each other when they are young, then lose contact and meet again after decades. And tada, there you have it, fate at work! A lot of Korean dramas are like that, especially the old ones.

I think it might just be a cultural thing. There's an Asian belief that two people who are meant to be together are connected by a red string. There's just something about being fated to be together that really speaks to their idea of romantic/romance in Asian cultures. I think it can work well. Just depends on the story and how it is integrated in. I think in America we like the idea of being in control of our destiny and always having the choice to decide what we want to do and who we want to be with that the idea of fate and destiny doesn't appeal to us as much because it appears to strip us of our control. (These are generalizations of course)

2

My god! Your comment was cracking me out. About BH is "mother" of her husband ?
I usually get annoyed when there are "relation" between the character, but not with this drama, i found them so funny and fresh.

I just realised that we are (on normal counts) on episode 10 and we only have 3 weeks left!

I assumed the killer will go on murder rampant when he said “4 down, 3 to go“ - how is the writer going to fit all those, plus the leads' parents' mystery, the amnesiac (?) thing, and still throw in a random case like this episode? This case was honestly quite dull but I do like the fact that Bong Hee found an angle that no one thought of before to save the day.

I hope they don´t give us the "Your dad killed my dad" trope cause seriously, show, you are better than that.
the answers we need first:
who is the first person that Hyun Soo killed and what was the motif?
was seeing his face the only reason he killed Hee-Joon or was there something connected to the assault case or the district attorney?

and I really wonder why Chan Ho couldn´t leave any evidence in some locker or something ...

If we're to trust what this show has hinted at, when BH's mom said her father was wrongly accused...then he didn't kill JW's father.
"Holy shit did BH's father kill JW's parents" is very obvious route to go (and I also hope theshow doesn't go down that cliche road), but I think that's only what the show would like us to believe... For all we know, BH's father could've been the one who saved JW from that fire, and was then wrongly accused of starting it. What I really want to know though, is if that dad is her biological father, and where is the other dad?

Oh this show! There's not a single boring moment and I just love every scene whether it be our OTP on the screen or Eun Hyuk or the killer or our lawyer gang. There's always a subtle undercurrent of tension when Ji Wook and Hyun Soo interact. Their conversation looks ordinary on the surface but they both read between the lines. I am worried our leads may become the next targets of Hyun Soo. Already Chan-Ho is MIA. I hope he is tied up somewhere but ALIVE but this show is gonna prove me wrong, isn't it? After all, he was in Hyun Soo's hit-list.

I love how Ji Wook knows the effect he has on Bong-Hee and is not afraid to use it to his advantage. Confessing last episode and telling her that he will wait and then cheating by turning the full power of his eyes on her! Who in the world can survive such an assault? :D. But I do hope that he share his suspicions about Hyun Soo with her soon and they can work together to dig up clues and evidence against him. She is going to be soo angry when it all blows up.

Ji Wook has such amazing people around him. I adored how he is so close to his current mom and Lawyer Byun. How disgruntled was Lawyer Byun that Ji Wook doesn't call him Dad :D. But I was not expecting that subplot involving Ji Wook and Bong Hee's parents. Do we really need all that angst? What we really need is more bromance between Ji Wook and Eun Hyuk.

The actress played an awful, selfish mother in Another OHY. I hated her everytime she appeared onscene.

1

Two thinsg that made me nervous on this episode:
1. Ji Wook lying.
2. The fathers and families being related possibly.

First of all, we all know by now that EBH is a no-nonsense girl and she commands respect and values straight forwardness and honesty. She is no damsel in distress and would hate it if somebody took her as one. I do believe that NJW's motivation for lying is to tey to protect BH but he might want to reconsider his choice for precisely thaat reason...the girl is smart and she needs to know if she could be in danger in order for her to be alert and careful. Aside from.this fact, JW also.needs to be honest with BH because she asked him to. And knowing our girl, she is not going to take it lightly when she finds out she was being lied to, for whatever reason.

Somehow if JW's father died because of BH's father, this.might create further tension for our budding romancing duo.

Now the cute part: I like our JW when he is being flirty! So much cuteness and hotness at the same time!

BH said she has 2 fathers. So maybe her biological one is dead ? And the other one her mum takes care of is a man she remarried n hence second father

1

That's the thing. If so, why doesn't she ever visit her bed ridden father/second father? And if the family is so cash strapped because of that, then why was BH living apart from her mum? It wouldn't make sense unless she didn't have a good relationship with whoever her mum is taking care of.

Whatever it is, the memory of her father must be something really painful because she even had a hard time revealing it to JW

And I'm so curious because as she was browsing through her diary, she clearly said "Sleep tight, my beloved dad." We wouldn't say that to a dead parent, would we?

1

@riarallahssi brings up BH and her mother living apart despite their very loving relationship and perhaps caused by a possible bad relationship with a step father. Interesting, I hope that gets touched on next week.

0

I have been asking myself something similar. Why BH would not live with her mom she adores? Also when she lost her own apartment and had to sleep in the office? I wonder if the show will give us answers to this. ...

1

The same things make me worried too. I think it is fair he isn't sharing his suspicions entirely because there isn't much to share as he hasn't found anything, but he should share the moment he finds anything even if it isn't definite proof. But I wish he would just keep her in the loop completely because that's what she wanted.

This show could be called Strong Woman Eun Bong-hee, in terms of willpower lol because how can anyone resist Ji-wook? I agree about the lying tho, I totally see where he's coming from and I'd be devastated knowing I might've played a part in letting a murderer walk free, but at the same time it's better to know the truth no matter how much it hurts.

I was so ready for a hilarious meeting with Bong-hee, Ji-wook, and their moms and then that turned out to be a heart-breaking reveal. Super interested in what's up with Bong-hee's dad and that fire, hope it's nothing sinister!

*moms dads stepdads all so aborable . again not taking screen time , but plain fun to watch
* the killer . man that guy can act with juts his eye roles . his evil eye roles , frustrated eye roles convey so much lol

can't of the last villoun who was half this intriguing

I was like if they're going to use a plot twist, don't recycle one from another JCW drama. But if we go that route, then as Chandler says, they better deal with it like on Healer and not drag it out.

I was quite disappointed with the childhood fate theme. Hopefully just a minor thing. I see it too much in K-dramas. Can't it be just about catching the serial killer? Thanks LP for shading a new light on case. It's true, we dunno for sure HS or CS who do the killing. It's innocence until proven guilty even though he seems like a brutal man.
Nevertheless, lets talk about the romance!! I love 2 minor details that I find NJW sooo freaking sexy, 1. When he threw the pencil from BH's hair as he hugged her and 2. Him on bed with short sleeves pyjama smiling about BH.
I FORGOT to BREATHE for a while.

Any prosecutor goes to trial with the evidence known to them at the time of trial. If a defendant decides to plead guilty (or accept a plea bargain) to all charges - whether considered innocent or guilty - that puts the end to the District Attorney going forward with any testimony.

Finally my Baby Boy is playing a character I can totally relate with. *squeeeeee* These two episodes did a great job with actually describing the procedures how we attempt to determine guilt or innocence, and the duty of us lawyers to advocate, but yet not to hide the truth, for all our clients. But a lawyer has to live with any consequences if any exonerating evidence ever comes to light... and an innocent person goes to jail instead.

Thanks for the recap, LP! ?

Bong-hee's defenses on Ji-wook and her promise to make him suffer as much as she had, didn't last long did it? But that makes this episode fun!!

And then seeing Eun-hyuk and Ji-wook banter makes me love this episode more. You can see how worried Ji-wook is when Eun-hyuk hid the truth because he doesn't want to make Eun-hyuk feel the way he is feeling when he found out the truth about Hyun-soo's alibi and therefore his possibility of actually being the murderer.

What makes me look forward to the following episodes is Bong-hee and Ji-wook's tangled past and Hyun-soo's motives. I's so curious as to why he is doing what he is doing.

After watching lots of crime dramas and real life crime shows, I have the tendency to look at everyone innocently until proven otherwise. Sure, we've seen him and Chan-ho on the crime scenes and we've seen him disposing a body on the rooftop... we even saw his violent nature several times, but we've never actually seen him do it.

I'm still worrying for Chan-ho... and I still suspect him. He may have done something to Hyun-soo that's haunting him and making him to these... and Hyun-soo may also be a victim or a chess piece of another key player. Nonetheless, Hyun-soo is proving to be as smart as anyone in this drama, proved by his conversation with Ji-wook.

Ji-wook's lies are piling up and what we've discovered about this mysterious man that apparently is Bong-hee's that may or may not have something to do about his parents deaths are seriously going to become one big misunderstanding and may be a source of them falling apart.

But we'll never know. It may also be something that can make their relationship stronger if they venture to try and unravel the mysteries together.

Of course, what I love about the most in this episode is Ji-wook adn Bong-hee's cuteness. Especially after Bong-hee's three days of non-shower and the dishes... and the hair grabbing... and the flirting... I love Ji-wook when he's like this!!! ='> :3

So chan ho is alive now or maybe not.

Jiwook past is heart breaking but i nevet expected her to be not his birth mother. But the moment mr.byun came i knew he is her husband. Even if his past was sad his current parents have done really well for him.

Also loved, loved the part with bh hair during her investigation, that was so bong hee-ish.
Their cat fight was as embarrassing as it was hilarious. Really they should not be friends ever. And jiwook rescuing bh and not her rival.

The best part about the show are its characters and their nuances which set them apart from others. All are doing such a great job, i love everything in this show. And will do so in the future because they made me trust them that much.

Jang Hyun soo am waiting for his deal, but just dont hurt mr.byun, Eun hyuk, bong*wook or their self proclaimed father, coz ill be hurt, lol.

1. JiWook turned up the puppy eyes today and definitely NOT complaining ?

2. I LOVE how BongHee figured out the death of the abusive husband in this episode. Most of the other episodes haven't showcased BongHee's skill as a lawyer and it truthfully wasn't what I expected which I LOVE. I though it might have been vicitim number 4 of 7 but thankfully not so.

Spin off drama? That sounds pretty fun.
Papa Bang is a single dad who owns his own Papa Johns franchise pizza who sells a one kind of pizza that is the swiggly mustard pizza and some other toppings (w/ pineapple?, well the family are still in dicussion with that). His eldest son looks much older than him but his childish nature proves his child mentallity. He always like to drink and caught of DUI. Good thing is that the youngest and the only girl in the family who was once a takewando master became a lawyer and always tries to help him in his case but always ending up losing making eldest Byun to pay an enourmous amount of fees. Youngest Bonghee decided to quit being lawyer because she found out that she's having a big crush on her own brother Wookie who is a prosecutor once but took of the coat because he choose to flirt instead with his own sister. The other son, Eun hyuk are the outcast amongst the 4 siblings because of his weird laugh and the poor puppy who only wanted attention become a silent shipper of his brother Wookie and youngest sister Bonghee's romance. Then one day an idol turned actress came knocking on their door proclaiming that she is their long lost sister from thier father's another woman. Now it became My father is strange and suspicious.

This is the most complicated family tree ever. So Papa Bang has 4 childish adult children where the oldest (Byun) is older than him but also is the adopted dad of the second oldest (Jiwook) but the oldest is also the son of the youngest (BongHee) because of a bet and the third oldest is just hanging around with his awkward laugh. So if The second and youngest marry is JiWook his own grandson? And is BongHee her own grandmother-in-law? And poor Papa Bang ??

I also loved how BH felt that something was off in her gut and took the initiative and time and energy to do a thorough job of looking into it I agree that the other episodes haven't really shown her off as a skilled lawyer. I love BH a lot and am afraid of her getting sidelined. In a drama the main characters are the OTP, but the story will eventually shift to either more of the hero's issues and POV or the heroine's. I just noticed that JW has gotten voiceover lines lately. I miss hearing BH's voiceovers. I hope we get to see her cracking more cases!

Ok I sort of miss writing looong looong novels of comments so I'll just leave a few brief words:
On Ji Wook: I almost wish he would tell BH what's going on. I know he doesn't want to worry her, but I worry about her safety now that HS knows JW is on his case. HS brought it up to subtly threaten JW that if he didn't back down, something would happen to BH. It seems like an awful premonition to me, and I wish she knew! I do really enjoy the verbal sparring between HS and JW though - I really admire how quick witted they are because I can't be like that IRL!

I was really surprised that his "mother" was actually his adoptive mom and Mr Byun was her husband! That was a pretty cool twist right there.

On Bong Hee: I was really, really satisfied by the mini case they solved this episode. It was short and sweet, and I love how BH proved her abilities and managed to spot things that EH couldn't see because he was too fixated on trying to cover up the lies. And awww man when you find someone who hugs you and touches your hair even when you're greasy and dirty? That's a real keeper right there.

I've got to say though that the whole "my parent killed your parent" has got to be one of my least favourite drama cliches... so I really hope that something just went a little haywire in little JW's memory and it's not really that. I never know what to feel about that trope. On one hand, I want the characters to move on from the past and not dwell on what their parents did to each other, but on the other hand, I know that realistically speaking it's not that easy.

Oh My! This show is getting better and better!

So many moments that had me swooning. I love this stage of the couple. Where they both are aware and know of each other's feelings. And flirting and enjoying it throughout. Taking it slow. I wish more dramas now focus on these.

And the reveal about JCW's mom. She wins the friend of the year award for sure. I loved everything about her. And our Byun lawyer. They both win at being best adults. <3 I wonder about Eun Hyuk's parents now.

This drama never fails to deliver.

Yes, this is such a fun part of the romance! It's a stage we don't always get and it's especially fun with JCW being all seductive and cheeky about it.

I love how he sometimes ends up pleasantly surprised when his charms are actually working, because it shows just a tad of that romantic ineptitude he's always had. He's starting to get pretty confident in the effect he has on her though and it is so adorable and hilarious on both sides. Haha, I love her direct "Don't look at me with those eyes!". Honey, you are only teaching him the ways to seduce you when you do that, hehehe!

I think my favorite part is the way he'll just trail behind her smiling like an idiot now, like when Chief Bang noticed them coming down the stairs. So cute. They really are dating already, Bong-hee just needs to accept it!

Your theory about the real killer is very very interesting. I remember in the first episode that introduced Hyun Soo, I totally thought he was unrelated to the case and was just unfairly arrested, but you correctly assumed he was involved. But like you said, we haven't actually seen him stab anyone, just get rid of a body and whistle menacingly. I'm wondering if the "amnesia" part of the plot still applies to the killer, because there may be another twist that Chan Ho keeps forgetting he might be the real killer... This writer is so good at twists! I'm appreciating them though and feel like the twists are even harder to decipher than I Remember You.

We'really getting right into the drama now, with birth secrets (kinda), further entwined fates, all this foreshadowing for the upcoming angst and all that good stuff. I love the way this show balances the drama and romance, it unnerved me at first how well the drama managed it. I guess I must've gotten used to it now XD. My only tiny problem is Yoo-Jung. I loved the way they introduced us to her through Bong Hee, it felt new and fresh to have them connect as friends without being introduced as instant rivals. But now it feels like she's just slipped into a typical second lead role which disappoints me a little cos there was potential.

4

Required fields are marked *

I can't believe that Ji Wook and Bong Hee's past overlaps. It seems as if their fate was always entwined with each other. Hopefully, they can cross those barriers between them, not that I don't like those little moments between them (they're so darn adorable).
Onto a different character, I feel so bad for Eun Hyuk still. He has never left the spot from being the best wingman ever, but its hard for him since Ji Wook still hasn't really forgiven him. Ji Wook had moved on from Yoo Jung, but I don't think that he can accept the fact that Eun Hyuk betrayed him. I wish that they can make amends in the next couple of episodes and continue bringing on more of their precious moments.
Lastly, I wonder if Hyun Soo is one single murderer for all of the past killings. I know that he is definitely guilty of many things, but is the show going to throw another twist. I understand that after what happened with his sister, he held a grudge against men who tended to cheat on women, but what is the rest of his past? What did he do with Chan Ho? My own suspicions are flooding my mind.

Yesss, to more Eun-hyuk and Ji-wook this episode!

I'm worried about Ji-wook's lying too, though I suppose his aim
is to help her get experience with the case this episode before he breaks it to her. I just felt like she already came to the conclusion that something was off about Hyun-soo so it seems kind of pointless to keep her in the dark now, especially when I think she can handle the truth. Now that she has helped free someone innocent, I definitely think she'll be able to let go of the fact that they released him and focus instead on helping to catch him.

I do find it refreshing that for once it's the male lead that shares his painful past first, while Bong-hee is still unable to do so yet. I have my theories about her fathers (obviously, after that ending), but I'm gonna leave that for now. I was moved by the revelation that JW had two mothers though. That was a twist I didn't expect! It means he went through even more pain than I could have imagined. So happy he had his current Mom to step in and take care of him. My opinion of her just grows and grows! What a good friend. As soon as we started getting those bit and pieces, I wondered if CEO Byun might turn out to be his step-dad and I was right! Haha! I can't believe he really is. That's hilarious.

Hahaha, @ Chief Bang feeling like he's raising four children! Ahhh, their staff meetings are just the best.

Thanks for the recap!

In fact I understand the reason Ji Wook lied to Bong Hee, he has absolutely no proof against the guy, he simply has a feeling that something is wrong, why worry her about something that is not known for sure. So much so that he said he will tell her if he finds out something.

But I loved knowing about Ji Wook’s mom, made me loved her more and it was clear why the CEO treats Ji Wook so well ..

Now the fact that the one father supposedly killed the other father is so cliche in kdrama, I hope they do not use it ...

JW knows Hyun Soo's connection to Chan Ho and he knows more detail about murder motivation. So connecting the dots he is suspicious of him but have no evidence for now.

I feel so forgetful, it's the whole Chan Ho's reactions at the trial and then Chan Ho lied to him! Thanks!

He's not telling her about investigating him, and he lied to her about the presomption of innocence as well. He totally thinks Hyun Soo's suspicious, if not guilty. It's true that all he has is that Hyun Soo lied about his alibi, but he found out about it BECAUSE he found him suspicous, not the contrary. (At least, that my take on it.)

I hope that "de-confuses" you a bit?

Not really but seares did, hehe.

I don't understand what you mean by "he lied to her about the presomption of innocence".

Haha, sorry, I realize it wasn't quite clear!

"Presomption of innocence" means that a suspect/defendant is believed to be innocent until it is proved that he is not. So when Ji Wook brings presomption of innocence up (when they're having tea after everyone left and doing the dishes), he's implying that he doesn't suspect Hun Soo of murder, wich is a tooooootal lie.

It's a lie of omission. He's not foreclosing the whole scope of his personal reinvestigation and he's not admitting that he believes that Hyun-soo is guilty of the murders even though he doesn't have any evidence other than his gut feelings at the moment. I think the problem with his lies (or withholding information) is that it puts Bong-hee in danger by not having her put her guard up around Hyun-soo and it undermines her personal strength because Ji-wook has already decided that she can't handle the idea that they may have set a murderer free. He should know her better by now to know that she is strong enough to know and smart enough to help with the investigation. His personal feelings for her well-being are getting in the way of his judgment. It is a nice reversal that Bong-hee is objectively investigating the woman who allegedly killed her husband, while Ji-wook is letting his subjectivity towards Bong-hee (and Eun-hyuk) get in the way of his own investigation.

I'm torn in this, especially, since as you so right put it, withholding that information could put her in danger. And by withholding it, especially after she has especially requested that he not hide stuff like that, seems wrong.

On the other side, he could put her on her guard too much and Hyun Soo will notice and feel like he needs to make an attack. I think HS will leave BH alone as long as it doesn't look like she will figure out who framed her.

the parts that i really liked, even more than the genius banter or adorable love showering around, i like the small bits with the character's interactions. the bickering between JW and EH, and CEO Byun and BH, and CEO Byun and JW's Mom and JW... i like all of these even more than all the mystery, promising angst with their past and hopefully some action too.

I still can’t figure it out, does Noh Ji-wook KNOW he has such great game, or is he just winging it? CAUSE OH MY DAMNNNNN

I think that Ji-wook is so extroverted because he has been so miserable for so long that its such a pleasure to be so happy. in the flashbacks with Yoo-jung, he was just as happy as he is now. After she cheats on him, he felt so betrayed that he became the closed-off prosecutor Bong-hee first met. Now that he met Bong-hee, he can be the happy, obsessive, weirdo he really is.

Good question! He seemed super confident and poised during his confession but afterwards, he was almost hyperventilating...

On the other hand, he really seems to enjoy teasing her... it's so hard to say.
