Suspicious Partner: Episodes 17-18
by LollyPip
Oh, the angst! I should have known that one intimate moment wouldn’t fix the chasm between Bong-hee and Ji-wook, keeping them from acting freely on their feelings. But lucky for us, the green-eyed monster lurks nearby, providing some of the most hilarious and swoon-worthy moments we’ve seen so far. So hold on tight as we dive in, and don’t forget to breathe.
EPISODE 17 RECAP
As Ji-wook rushes to intercept Bong-hee’s meeting with Chan-ho, memories of his father’s death and Eun-hyuk and Yoo-jung’s betrayal flash through his mind. He thinks about a poet who said, “We can generally predict the start of things, but we can’t generally predict the end of them.” But he knows that for him it’s the opposite—he’s experienced many endings in his life, so he hesitates to start something with Bong-hee out of fear of it ending.
He narrates that he pushed her away in the very moment that he realized his feelings for her. He knows that he’s failed to avoid developing feelings for her, and that he recognized them so late that he doesn’t know when they began.
He finds Bong-hee and takes her home, apologizing for yelling at her. She steps close to see if he’s sincere, having lost a contact, but when she moves to back away he grabs her and hugs her. Ji-wook leans back to look into Bong-hee’s eyes, then he kisses her.
The kiss goes on for quite a while as they savor the moment. Ji-wook narrates that he doesn’t understand it, he just knows that a new relationship with Bong-hee has begun.
When they finally break apart, Ji-wook realizes that Bong-hee seems pretty shocked. She backs away from him and walks to her room in a daze, leaving Ji-wook feeling conflicted.
After following Chan-ho to the park where he planned to meet Bong-hee, Hyun-soo rests in the back of Chan-ho’s car casually brandishing a large, cruel-looking knife. Chan-ho waits until it looks like Hyun-soo isn’t paying attention, then he slams on the brakes and tries to jump out of the car. Hyun-soo leaps at him, trying to stab him with the knife, but Chan-ho fends him off and eventually tumbles out onto the road.
Hyun-soo kicks the door into Chan-ho, knocking him across the bridge where they’ve stopped. He grabs Chan-ho by the throat and reminds him that he has to pay for his mistake. Chan-ho screams, “I can’t do this anymore!” and throws a few punches, but Hyun-soo is clearly the stronger fighter, pummeling Chan-ho back to the ground.
Chan-ho gets to his feet and charges, but again Hyun-soo gains the upper hand and shoves him away. But Chan-ho lands a lucky kick as he’s thrown to the side, slamming Hyun-soo into the car and earning himself a few precious seconds.
He stands at the bridge railing between the dual threats of Hyun-soo and the dark river, then as Hyun-soo stares in horror, Chan-ho leaps into the water and disappears. Hyun-soo is genuinely shaken as he looks down at the river, but he gets himself together and whispers that now, four people have disappeared, and three still need to disappear.
Bong-hee realizes that she can’t hide in her room all evening, and when she works up the nerve to open her door, she finds Ji-wook standing right there about to knock. HA. They’re both nervous but they agree that they need to talk.
Ji-wook starts to bring up the kiss, but Bong-hee interrupts to say that they don’t even know how many times they’ve done that, so they shouldn’t be awkward over something so meaningless. Shaking his head, Ji-wook says that he can’t just let it go, but Bong-hee misinterprets his words.
She assures him that she doesn’t like him anymore, and that she won’t be swayed by a small incident. Ji-wook blinks at her, not having expected her to stick to her guns about stopping her feelings for him. Bong-hee continues that she’s happy with her life right now, and she thanks him for turning her down, while Ji-wook hangs his head.
He holds in the words that he was planning to say out loud: that he regrets pushing her away and wants to turn back time. Bong-hee goes back to her room, telling herself that she did well, but Ji-wook is left heartbroken.
At a riverbank near where Hyun-soo and Chan-ho fought, a soaked figure drags himself from the water. It’s Chan-ho—he survived the fall, but now he’s in a whole lot of trouble.
After an evening at the bar, CEO Byun gets into his car and starts to call a designated driving service. A man parks his salvage cart nearby, and it starts to roll downhill towards a woman, who’s too distracted by her phone to notice.
Thinking fast, CEO Byun throws his car into gear and drives about ten feet to put his car between the woman and the cart, saving her from being crushed. He’s feeling pretty proud of his heroic act by the time the police arrive, but a breathalyzer test results in him being arrested for driving drunk.
After a sleepless night, Bong-hee and Ji-wook run into each other in the kitchen the following morning. This time Ji-wook doesn’t let Bong-hee side-step him, saying that it’s his turn to speak. He apologizes for taking so long to realize how he feels about her because he was afraid, as Bong-hee stands frozen in surprise and confusion.
Ji-wook takes her cup and drinks from it, then leans a bit closer than necessary to set it on the table. He seems unaware of the way he’s scrambling Bong-hee’s wits, and he continues that he respects that she’s given up on her feelings for him. He says that he’s not asking her to like him again, he just wants her to allow him to like her now.
And then the most beautiful thing happens: Ji-wook smiles a real, genuine, happy smile. He promises not to bother Bong-hee with his feelings, but says that he hopes that one day she’ll reconsider liking him again. He’s still smiling as he says that he’ll be waiting for her, then he reminds her to breathe. HA.
He walks past Bong-hee into the kitchen, then he doubles back to grab her empty cup. As he does, he leans his face veeery close to hers, seeming to enjoy making her jump. He’s adorably confident, though after Bong-hee leaves, he reminds himself to breathe. So. Cute.
He shoots Bong-hee an unfair amount of puppy eyes during the meeting that morning, which Eun-hyuk and Chief Bang notice right away. They talk about what might have happened between “those two” right in front of their faces, but they don’t even notice.
CEO Byun tells everyone about his drunk driving charges, and they exchange identical side-eyes at his unlikely excuse that he was totally going to call a designated driver. They all advise him to take his punishment like a man, but he insists on going to trial and arguing his innocence.
On the roof later, Ji-wook tells Chief Bang that Chan-ho never showed up last night. Bong-hee did get a text from him saying that something came up, but when Ji-wook tried to call him just seconds later, his phone was turned off. Feeling like something isn’t right, Ji-wook asks Chief Bang to track down Hyun-soo’s whereabouts last night.
He adds that he genuinely hopes that Hyun-soo was falsely accused of murder, if only for Bong-hee’s sake. They’re looking down at Bong-hee sitting at her usual picnic table as they talk, and Ji-wook frowns when Eun-hyuk joins her.
Eun-hyuk quips that he’s here for Bong-hee’s counseling session, causing Bong-hee to snap at him crankily and mock his laugh. But she confesses that Ji-wook caught her by surprise, and that it makes her very happy and very angry all at once.
Ji-wook wanders past them and mentions that he’s going to see Chan-ho, oh-so-casually wondering if Bong-hee is interested in coming along. She just sniffs at him, but Eun-hyuk urges her to go, fully aware of the change in the atmosphere between them.
So Bong-hee joins Ji-wook, though she grows angry when she can’t stop thinking about the kiss and Ji-wook’s confession (and I love how Bong-hee’s overactive imagination lets us see that kiss over and over again). She takes her frustration out on poor Ji-wook, who has no clue what he did wrong.
Bong-hee huffs angrily at Ji-wook for saying that he likes her now, and she tells him that he can wait forever because she’s not changing her mind. She whines that he realized his feelings too late and it’s not fair, so she plans to make him suffer as much as she did.
Ji-wook nods in agreement to everything she says, but Bong-hee tells him not to talk, and when he stops talking, she doesn’t like that either. He dares to ask what she wants him to do and tries a bright smile which just ends up looking manic, and he even does a bit of awkward aegyo for her (OMG I’m dying).
Bong-hee says that she wants him to suffer, and for a very long time. He agrees to grow old and die while waiting for her, but then he grows stern and tells her that they’re working now, which means he’s the boss. Oh sweetie, I don’t think you’re going to be the boss ever again.
They learn from Chan-ho’s colleague that he’s gone on leave, only saying that something came up suddenly. He’s not at home either, but the landlady sees them and assumes they’re newlyweds here to see the apartment for rent, which just happens to be Chan-ho’s. They play along, and they find out that Chan-ho gave his move-out notice just before the chef’s murder.
They pretend they need to speak privately, Ji-wook throwing a stiff arm around Bong-hee to sell the whole newlywed angle. Once the landlady leaves, they jump apart and start looking around for anything of interest. Bong-hee is curious about where Chan-ho could be, and Ji-wook idly wonders if he’s “disappeared,” which was Hyun-soo’s word for what happened to his family.
Bong-hee finds something very interesting tucked between the pages of a book—a photo of Chan-ho standing with two other men, all of them smiling.
EPISODE 18 RECAP
Later Ji-wook tells Chief Bang that they didn’t find much at Chan-ho’s place. He shows him the photo, and Chief Bang says he’ll do what he can to find out who the other two young men are. Ji-wook goes all melty when Bong-hee walks past the room, which Chief Bang notes with a grin. He asks if Ji-wook plans to tell Bong-hee about his suspicions regarding Hyun-soo, and Ji-wook says that he’ll tell her once he knows more.
District Attorney Jang calls Yoo-jung and Ji-hae to his office to give them the case file he’s compiled on Hee-joon’s murder case. He asks them to re-investigate, admitting that he’s never been able to accept Bong-hee’s acquittal. He says that he’s spent years wondering if his son’s murder was for revenge, but the more he thinks about it, the more certain he is that Bong-hee killed him.
He admits that he fabricated evidence by planting the knife in Bong-hee’s apartment. Ji-hae correctly guesses that he suspects Ji-wook of planting the second knife, the one that was found in the field, in order to get Bong-hee freed due to evidence tampering. Yoo-jung argues that Ji-wook wouldn’t do such a thing, but District Attorney Jang just orders them to find new evidence either way, hoping that he can bring new charges against Bong-hee.
Taking pity on CEO Byun, Bong-hee offers to represent him in his drunk driving case. She then uses this to blackmail him into doing all the chores for the week when she loses the ladder game, hee.
All day long, Ji-wook watches as the other guys fawn over Bong-hee, bringing her coffee and chocolates and treating her like a queen. Jealous, he goes to Bong-hee’s desk to help her with something, making a point to lean incredibly close to her and speak in a low, rumbling voice, leaving Bong-hee all hot and bothered.
She’s still in a daze when she meets her mom for lunch, and she confesses that she’s very happy at her new job, particularly the fact that all of her coworkers like her, so she gets scared that she’ll lose that happiness. Her mother says that Bong-hee never had much growing up, but that she’s never let anyone take away something that belonged to her.
Hyun-soo has to do a quick dodge when he nearly runs right into Chief Bang, looking around his neighborhood for information about him. He goes to his favorite bar, where the owner tells him that the lawyers have been here several times asking questions. Hyun-soo remembers how Ji-wook followed him and Bong-hee and wonders if they suspect him.
That night, Ji-wook has a nightmare about Hyun-soo, though it’s hard to tell if Hyun-soo is stabbing someone or being stabbed. Drawn upstairs by his cries, Bong-hee checks on Ji-wook, and he wakes in a blind panic.
Seeing her, Ji-wook pulls Bong-hee into his arms, asking over and over if she’s okay. He eventually calms a bit and lets her go, apologizing. Bong-hee stands to leave, but she turns back to see Ji-wook looking lost and traumatized, so she offers to stay for just five minutes until he falls asleep.
He lies back down, scooting to the very edge of the couch to be as close to her as possible. Though he’s reluctant to take his eyes off her, he soon falls back to sleep. As she watches him, Bong-hee says that she won’t fall for him no matter how cute he is when he’s sleeping.
When it’s time for CEO Byun’s trial, Eun-hyuk sneaks into the courtroom to sit with Ji-wook. Ji-wook slides away until he’s practically sitting in a stranger’s lap, ha. Eun-hyuk earns himself a snarl when he says that he’s here to watch Bong-hee, who seems to be presenting CEO Byun’s case well.
CEO Byun makes his statement, asking for leniency since he only drove a few feet to save that woman’s life. But the judge is tough and finds him guilty, ordering him to pay the hefty fine or work it off in a workhouse. CEO Byun chases Bong-he out of the courtroom, furious that she used him like a slave, then lost his case.
That night while out for drinks, Yoo-jung informs Ji-hae that she knows she’s pretty (Ji-hae: “I thought so too, before I saw you up close.” HAHA). Yoo-jung says that since Ji-wook and Eun-hyuk are also beautiful, they always turned heads when the three of them were together, and that made her proud. Yoo-jung admits that she hurt and abandoned them, and Ji-hae agrees that that happens when you don’t appreciate what you have.
Spotting Bong-hee walking past with the men in question, Ji-hae sighs that it’s Bong-hee who has everything now. She warns Yoo-jung that she’ll regret confronting them, but Yoo-jung shakes her off and runs outside. She calls out to them, ordering Bong-hee to shut her mouth when she starts to say something. To the guys, Yoo-jung can only eke out, “You’re so…” before she falters. Eun-hyuk and Ji-wook turn to go, not bothering to hear the rest, with Bong-hee following after them.
Later Yoo-jung sets out for home, walking slowly and unsteadily. Across the street, Eun-hyuk keeps pace with her, but he carefully stays out of sight.
The police find Chan-ho’s abandoned car, with a bloody knife lying in the back seat. A flashback shows that it was Hyun-soo who left the knife there, no doubt thinking that it’s convenient to frame Chan-ho for the murders since he believes him dead.
Chief Bang reports to Ji-wook that he had no luck discovering where Chan-ho went on the day he disappeared, and that he’s looking into the other guys in the picture. Ji-wook thinks about Chan-ho telling Bong-hee that he knows who bought her the shoes, and he wonders if it was someone in the photo, or Hyun-soo.
Eun-hyuk calls them over to watch the breaking news story that Chan-ho’s car was found, along with the knife that was used to kill the chef. Hyun-soo also watches the report with a small grin, as he waits to meet with Bong-hee.
Hyun-soo tells Bong-hee that he lied to her about his alibi. He confesses that he doesn’t really remember what he was doing the day of the chef’s murder, but that he worried she wouldn’t believe his innocence if he didn’t give her a detailed accounting of his day.
Bong-hee asks why he’s telling her this, and he says that it’s because she was the only person who believed in him, so he wants to be honest now. Bong-hee remembers Ji-wook mentioning that there’s something strange about Hyun-soo, but she doesn’t let on and just thanks him.
As they walk back to Bong-hee’s car, they run into the man who hung Bong-hee’s sign asking for witnesses to Hee-joon’s murder. Hyun-soo’s eyes go wide and he whirls around to hide his face. In flashback we see that it was Hyun-soo who helped hang the sign and asked questions about it, and he’s worried the man will recognize him.
The man had seen Hyun-soo taking down Bong-hee’s number and assumed he knew something, and now he asks if she ever got a report from a young man. She asks if he remembers what the guy looked like, but he says that he only saw him once.
Hyun-soo decides to test him and goes over to say hello, but the man doesn’t react to seeing Hyun-soo’s face. Bong-hee gets a call from Ji-wook, who tries to stay calm when she says she’s with Hyun-soo now. He tells her to bring Hyun-soo over for dinner and not to stop anywhere on the way. Hyun-soo accepts the invitation, so they head to the house.
Ji-hae tells Yoo-jung that she thinks District Attorney Jang’s theory about Ji-wook planting the other knife is plausible, since there seemed to be something between him and Bong-hee even before Hee-joon’s murder. Yoo-jung thinks about this for a while, then rushes out of her office.
When Bong-hee and Hyun-soo arrive at the house, Ji-wook hilariously greets Hyun-soo with a giant knife in his hand, heh. Bong-hee drags Ji-wook upstairs to ask why he didn’t tell her about Hyun-soo’s fake alibi, but he has no ready excuse. She takes issue with him keeping this from her, and he readily apologizes.
Eun-hyuk also comes upstairs, and he listens in as Bong-hee says Hyun-soo confessed to her that he lied about the alibi. Ji-wook asks how she feels about Hyun-soo, and she says that she’s not sure, but what worries her is Ji-wook’s suspicion, since she knows he wouldn’t suspect someone without reason. They turn to see Eun-hyuk, and Bong-hee goes downstairs as Eun-hyuk stays to ask Ji-wook how he can help.
The guys go down to find that Yoo-jung is here, and they invite her to stay to eat. Ji-wook is oddly friendly with everyone (except Eun-hyuk, who pouts like a baby when Ji-wook snaps at him). He brings up the fact that Chan-ho is suspected of having killed the chef, watching Hyun-soo carefully for any reaction.
Hyun-soo just says that he’s surprised that a forensic investigator is a murder suspect, but that he doesn’t know the guy personally. Yoo-jung congratulates Hyun-soo on his acquittal and on someone else popping up as a suspect, and adds a barbed comment that those who are set free for lack of evidence are often considered guilty by the general public if another suspect isn’t found, clearly meant for Bong-hee’s ears.
But Bong-hee can give as good as she gets, firing back that the killer is still loose because the prosecution isn’t doing its job. Meow. Yoo-jung says that she came here to say that she’ll be re-investigating Hee-joon’s murder case. She says that she plans to look at everything from the crime scene to those involved, adding, “The killer may be in this house right now.”
Little does she know how true that is, though Hyun-soo only betrays a tiny flicker in his eyes before turning his attention back to his meal. The atmosphere is suddenly very tense, with everyone knowing something that they’re not saying out loud.
COMMENTS
My very favorite thing about this writer is how the villains are so human; evil yet somehow still relatable. This is used to particular effect with Hyun-soo and Chan-ho, who seem to have a dangerously symbiotic relationship in which Hyun-soo murders for as-yet-unknown reasons, and Chan-ho uses his forensic skills to erase the evidence. We’re barely halfway through the drama and our emotions have already been flip-flopped several times when it comes to the murderous duo. This was one of my favorite things about I Remember You, when the killer was at times cold and ruthless, but at other times he made us love him only to wrench our beating hearts right out of our chests. At first it seemed as though Chan-ho was the killer and Hyun-soo the innocent one, but now it appears that the reverse is true. I’ve gone from being terrified of Chan-ho to terrified for him, and I’m scared that he’s not just one of the homicidal team, but now a target as well.
Chan-ho seems to owe Hyun-soo for a mistake he made in the past, one that he’s making up for by helping Hyun-soo commit a series of revenge murders. And though Hyun-soo clearly has a lot of anger and resentment towards Chan-ho, the horror on his face when he thought Chan-ho had drowned was real. Whatever happened, at one point in time these two must have been close, enough for Chan-ho to be a willing accomplice to murder and for Hyun-soo to grieve his apparent death. But then when Hyun-soo counts Chan-ho as one of the seven who “needs to disappear,” I got a delicious chill—was Chan-ho always on his hit list? They’re a fantastic example of a close relationship gone wrong in the deadliest of ways.
I’m impressed with how mature Bong-hee is being about The Kiss, the way she keeps reminding herself that it probably means nothing. It can’t be easy to keep your head on even partially straight after being kissed silly by a man like Ji-wook. But then Ji-wook offered Bong-hee that utterly perfect confession, and I don’t know how she didn’t melt right there on the spot. He was so honest, and so respectful of her wishes and feelings, I swooned with every word. It took a lot of self-awareness for Ji-wook to say that he feels like he screwed up by taking too long, and that he would respect her wishes to leave her alone the same as she did for him (again with the respect—how is he so perfect??). What I didn’t expect was for the man who so recently was afraid to admit his feelings to ask for permission to keep liking Bong-hee, and to even request that she be open to caring about him again in the future. How Bong-hee didn’t leap on him right then is beyond me.
I loved seeing the open, almost impish look on Ji-wook’s face when he said he’d be waiting, and how he kept getting all up in Bong-hee’s personal space, knowing full well what it was doing to her. He knows her feelings haven’t changed no matter what she says, and now he’s a man on a mission (even if his mission looks like it’s shaking him up as much as it’s shaking up Bong-hee!). It’s going to be so much fun watching him slowly torture Bong-hee with his presence—he can’t help but smolder when he looks at her by accident, so having him purposely turn the full force of those intense eyes on her is probably going to kill Bong-hee dead. I admire the lady for having the force of will to resist him for even one day, because goodness knows nobody would blame her for crumbling.
But it’s the way he’s letting her see his vulnerability that really goes right to my heart. Ji-wook is normally so closed off that I’m surprised to see him showing Bong-hee his deepest fears so soon. When she stayed with him after his nightmare, the way he looked so afraid to close his eyes and lose sight of her was just so raw and honest that I don’t know how she didn’t just cave in right then and there. I do understand Bong-hee’s fear of being hurt yet again, especially since Ji-wook’s change of heart feels so sudden to her, but I can’t help hoping that she softens towards him sooner rather than later. I think that he needs her love even more than she needs his, and as fun as it is to watch him squirm trying to make her happy, I want to see them happy together even more.

Yes, for ages, the girl has been pining for him, chasing after him, confessing to him. Now it's his turn to stew in his own screw up, but I am amused that BH is very aware of his presence and feel uncomfortable whenever he is physically very near her.

I kinda like her too, if she's not accusing BH of the murder that is. I feel like she's someone who could tell YJ straightly how childish she is.

I have to admit I have fallen harder for this character over recent episodes. Just because she isn't attacking Bong Hee. When she is it makes me all frustrated.

Same!! Her disillusionment with Yoo-jung actually makes me crack up :) and even though she's wrong about Bong-hee, I think she's reasonable enough to help her find the real killer if (or hopefully when) she finds out the truth. I wish they could be grudging allies or even real friends (maybe like in I hear your voice?).

me too. I was looking towards YJ to be the "second female lead who ends up being friends with the female lead", but perhaps Ji Hae will end up taking that role? I feel bad that she is shackled to a whiny YJ.

This might be the drama where I went back and rewatched whole episodes so early in the drama (also in different translations, just to see the difference). It's fantastic.

I not only collapsed, I melted into a puddle of nothingness. Bong Hee is a lady who knows how to hold herself against all of Ji Wook's attempts.
P.S Am I the only feeling bad for Chan Ho right now? Everyone will be searching for him to either kill him or obtain more information.

I love that JW and BH actually make an effort to communicate with each other, and make their desires known.
They're not the first, but it's so refreshing to see a relationship that is based on honesty in dramaland, one where the characters aren't holding back their thoughts.
I absolutely can't wait for BH to admit that there's no escaping JW... and for that ship to finally SAIL!

I love how it was not dragged out. That night Bonghee did the talking. I wanted to Jiwook to explain his side immediately so Bonghee need not go to bed feeling confused or what. Then the next day, Jiwook stepped up and confessed in the most wonderful way. I'm glad with how it all happened.

This is becoming Dramaland Catnip for me - characters that actually talk to each other and are honest. It's happening more and more, where the characters are at least trying (even if they're getting wires crossed like in Fight My Way).

He used her words, that was the best part. It's basically what she said to him in an earlier episode (although I can't remember which scene it was). And she has to realize that it means he's memorized every conversation they've ever had. That's just as, if not more romantic than the actual content of what he was saying imo. I was grinning like a fool the moment I recognized parts of the speech.

You can't not love such a man. Well, I mean I certainly couldn't. Bong Hee has her reasons since she chased after him for quite a while and when she finally decided to firmly stop what she was doing, it was a surprise for her when he took the initiative. But, obviously, she still has those lingering feelings and it's just so darn cute whenever he tries to get close to her. I'm just waiting for that moment where she admits her love to him again.

As much as I wish she would have melted with the kiss and his words, I do appreciate the fact that this drama has given us a heroine who has her wits intact...she is a very strong-willed person and a no-nonsense girl, that's what I have always loved about EBH. EBH, you go girl!!!
p.s. I died just watching the kiss, I don't know how somebody can have their sanity in place like EBH did when a kiss is like that!!! It drove me crazy and I just watch it! I am totally bonkers over JCW...aaaah

yes, its very rare heroin in dramaland that has such a unique and strong personality, i hope she'll never change until the show ended.
is it coincidence that i found NJH previous character on SKL also has same condition, she was not changed even the worlds around her so cruel to her, but she changed the world around her instead.

I haven't yet watched SKL, so this is my first NJH drama. Maybe she gave such a strong impression of being a strong independent woman in that SKL that the PD of SP thought she would be perfect fit?

I kind of gave up on YJ a few episodes ago, and well... it was probably the right decision. Agree with JH that close up, she just seems kind of pathetic and not as cool. When we first saw her, she was all cool and badass but now that we know more, she seems more like a child who just wants her own way.
I know she was drunk, but the fact that she said that she was "pretty" as though being pretty were an excuse to do whatever you liked... just... meh. She liked the notion of hanging out with JW and EH as a clique because she got to feel cool around pretty people and lord it over others, and now that they're gone, I think she misses the feeling of being in "the cool clique". It sounds shallow, but I feel like she misses the idea of having a handsome man, and handsome friend, more than she misses the actual people.

Ahh that confession! I love Ji-Wook for owning up for is cowardice and just asking for a chance to like her.
But I can get Bong-Hee for not jumping immediately as hard as that is. I mean he pushed her away because he was scared of getting hurt but what about her? Rejection is one thing but then he likes her anyway, meaning all the pain she went through was for nothing! She never actually had to go through it so why did he make her. I mean she knows she'll cave eventually but I can applaud her for wanting him to suffer a tiny bit.
Also, I love all the meetinf scenes with our little band of lawyers. The way they all banded against CEO Byun was hilarious.

Kdramaland is really... hitting it out of the ballpark with confessions and leading men these a days. I've been actively following a ton of dramas and the leading men are just so sweet? Confessions get better and better with every show that I watch.
But yes, JW... I love how he told her he would respect her feelings, and it was his turn to like her. He didn't expect her to like him back, but he would continue to like her until she changed her mind. And he didn't do it by being obnoxious or intrusive, he was quiet and sweet (and took every opportunity to stick his face near hers, hah). Poor Bong Hee, when he said he was willing to wait, she looked like she was all ready to jump right at him, forget waiting!

just so awesome. Can Bong Hee be any cooler? She is already cracking though. I like how they are still a good team of lawyers even if they are awkward with each other. CEO Byuns´ drunk driving didnt quite fit in to this episode, but on the other hand it put him in the same spot as Bong Hee had been: no evidence to prove your actions. HAA.
I love how BH and JW don´t just start a relationship, instead they are building it bit by bit. and I like the end the most, how BH told him not to keep information from her thinking he is doing something noble. Ji Wook, this is just a taste of what will happen if you should get married to her.
Eun Hyuk and Ji Wook having the same gestures and mirroring each other is the best thing ever. shows how long they were friends before the discord.

speaking of, he is getting creepier. who are the 3 he wants out of the way?
I am glad Chan Ho seems to be alive and I want to see at least his redemption. I mean he hasn´t directly killed anyone.

Thanks for the speedy update @lollypip - you've so eloquently summarised how I feel about our OTP!
Like you, I'm especially proud of BH for handling JW's sudden confession (and kiss!) with such grace. I applaud the writers not only for giving our heroine tangible character growth, but for not reducing her to a sappy, starry-eyed doormat after the male lead confesses. Although BH really got on my nerves during the first 2 episodes (I know I was supposed to pity her but I just found her pathetic!), she has wormed her way into my heart with her honesty and quirky optimism, much like she has done with JW.
I'm not quite sure how Nam Ji-hyun does it - if I was on the receiving end of one of Ji Chang-Wook's signature 'I-can-see-right-through-to-your-soul' stares, I think my *heart* would stop, let alone my breathing...!

Yoo Jung... Oh Yoo Jung.... I really wanted to like you but the fact that you are being such a brat is making me sad. I am honestly more sad about the fact that Eun Hyuk can't seem to stop following her and looking for her wherever he is. Makes me wish that she would pick herself up becoming a woman worthy for his affections to be honest.
And omg... wow that confession.... I perfectly understand why Bong Hee is being on guard and trying to keep him at an arms distance away but at the same time... GURL!!! HE! AND YOU! AND THEN! AND THAT! THEN THAT KISS!!! AND THAT!! I can not deal with how strong you are Bong Hee.... Seriously if that was me I would have run into his arms already. But I do love how she is keeping him at bay.
But that scene with him having the nightmare and hugging her.... My heart. Dont do that to me writers. Seriously. I am going to die.
One thing that I am curious though is the villains, seems like one of them has some regret and such but I am seriously curious about why these two are together and why they are working together.

Aah, what a fun episode!!! Loved the confession scenes so much.
Yeah, sure Ji Wook, you don't want to stress the girl, just hang around looking at her like that, and looking after her, and expect her to leave you be... sure... no problem ... no STRESS!!! LOLOL. I was rolling around at that and the expression on Bong Hee's face as he was assuring her he was cool about waiting for her. Way to go in respecting a girl's feelings (not!!!) ?
And can we just have one quarter of each episode at their staff meetings and see the group of them just feed off each other in repartee, sarcasm and giving Byun a hard time. ? I just love their group dynamics... and I'm guessing quite a bit of it is ad lib. Also show, please give us lots of bro-sis-mance between Eun Hyuk and Bong Hee. It's so great that she may not have a girlfriend to confide in but she does have Eun Hyuk and Bang to support her and we get to hear all her other thoughts and understand her decision to not be swayed by Ji Wook, (which we know she'll just end up not following through with. LOL).
One of the best things about this drama are the truthful, "as-comes-to-mind", unfiltered dialogues between Ji Wook and Bong Hee. With communication as good as theirs, how can they fail to make it as a couple? And you know, actually when she says, she's going to make him wait, longer than 7 minutes,... it sounded like it was an acquiescence already, because at the end of the wait, it was going to be a 'Yes', just the way after 7 minutes she said yes.
And that JCW aegyo LOL! I don't know whether to find it cute or cringe but it was certain hilarious. Love this show!! And that was only the first half... Now to watch the next half!! ?

the office dynamics is the best ever I cant imagine how they even get it filmed I would just have to hold my breath not to laugh. it shows us all people don´t need to like each other to work together (but they might anyway, even if it appears like the opposite); when work and friendship combines, you will always have a friend at hands´ reach; working together will force you to talk to each other even while mad or embarrassed; when the people you work with are in perfect sync and share your sense of humor you get away with even the pointiest words and instead of offending someone it works like a Non-Offence-Vaccine.

There is such great office chemistry, especially the part when they were like referencing laws and such regarding CEO Byun's DUI case.
I love how Ji Wook knows exactly when the conversation derails and the meeting needs to be over.

That awkward JCW aegyo!! I definitely cringed for him, but found it cute. I also kind of died when the landlady gave them the side eye when they said they needed to see the unit in private, like she suspected they were going to be doing... ahem, weird things while she was gone.
I love the staff meetings and I love how EH is a silently watching fairy godmother! He's the one who's listening to all her frustrations and rants and he's always encouraging without being overbearing. I love seeing scenes of them in an oppa-dongsaeng kind of thing. More so because JW gets adorably jealous. ;)

EH is the BEST. I love seeing a drama where the lead female character is allowed to have a male friend who isn't trying to put the moves on her - he's just being so sweet and such a good friend. I love that throughout the show Ji-Wook and Bong-Hee are his OTP as much as they're ours!

These are some of my favorite things this episode:
1) That KISS!
2) The impish way that Wookie confessed his feelings and got all up in Bong-hee's personal space
3) Eun-hyuk calling Bong-hee "bong-bong"
4) Eun-hyuk and Bong-hee's genuine friendship
5) The whole thing with CEO Byun and how he didn't know what the firm was called (No and Ji? Ji, No, and Byun???) and the way Bong-hee made him do things leading up to the trial and just how they lost and he almost killed her! I died laughing!!
6) The way Wookie respects Bong-hee
7) Wookie's attempt at aigoo and his immediate head shake as if to say "no this inst it, get a grip boy!"
8) The firm meetings.
9) The complexity of the villains and their motives
10) Bong-hee and her mom's petty rivalry with Wookie's mom that is so headed for some hilarious reveals when they will find out she's Wookie's mom!

their friendship reminds me of a childrens song we have: for a good friend I´ll open my doors and my eyes and my ears, my heart and my family circle, whenever you want, I´ll be here at the window wide open. or you can even fly in through my TV. they are just like that, always willing to lend the ear and listen.

I, too, need a reminder to breathe anytime Ji Wook does anything or says anything swoonworthy, which is 80% of the time lol. Bong Hee is a strong woman for being able to resist him, but really, how long can she keep that up? Hahaha
I didn't quite pick up on Chan Ho being part of the seven on Hyun Soo's list! When he said 4 have disappeared, I thought I had missed someone again, or a murder had happened somehow before that. Curious as to how Chan Ho and Hyun Soo got involved, what Chan Ho owes Hyun Soo, and how it will all unfold. I want to peel back more layers to the murder duo here. In I Remember You their backstory was written well and the characters were so human and you knew why they did what they did, I couldn't fully hate them. I hope the Hyun Soo and Chan Ho's story is just as interesting and fleshed out.
I was so happy when Bong Hee was telling her mother she felt she was in her prime, with her coworkers adoring her! Just a nice moment for mother and daughter, haha.
I worry about what could come out as Yoo Jung reinvestigates Hee Jun's case, and the fact that the DA fabricated evidence and thinks Ji Wook could do the same?? This man is dirty and out to get Bong Hee and Ji Wook, not to mention he has history with Ji Wook's dad. But things are going quite well, perhaps this is the next source of conflict for the lawyers at No and Ji and Eun and Bang and Byun. (They never really settled on a name, di they? Haha)

I must say: I thoroughly enjoyed (almost to a sadistic point) JW being rejected. The resulting angst was just too delicious, watching him flail about and trying to come to terms with the situation he put himself in was just so satisfying, because he kind of deserves it for hurting BH...even if his reasons were legitimate. Also, seeing him lovestruct just makes me SWOON.
But in this situation, I also appreciate that BH has enough self-respect and doesn't decide to run straight into his arms (I know I would've, lol), just because he's had a change of heart. This girl is seriously awesome!
Lastly...I might sound like a broken record, but I feel the need to say this again. I really really appreciate how this show handles its tonal shifts. With the romance starting to come into full-force, I'm relieved that the show isn't trying to tone-down (no pun intended) the mystery in favor of romance.

its tonal shifts are AMAZING. I keep gushing about them too! I remember it was in a much earlier episode, maybe episode 3 (with the 1h system) and it was when BH decided she wouldn't "stalk" JW and when she received that pair of shoes. man that tonal shift still gives me chills. the way I went from crying with BH to being super nervous about those shoes...production team is gifted!

Thanks for the recap!
Hahaha, now I feel like this was the true purpose of the one night stands, so that she can try and trivialize this kiss between them, even though nothing that could have possibly happened before could have had this emotional importance. I think, deep down, she probably senses that he wouldn't just kiss her now that he knows her feelings, but she's just having such a hard time believing it.
I love that he tried to make very clear what his feelings are anyway. He persevered, even after rejection. Not even just that, he was clear about the emotional process he went through over the course of the last few episodes. So she could understand even understand what his feelings have been and how he suddenly reached the point of going after her. He really had the most wonderful, unselfish confession! Haha, reminding both of them to breath after, so cute!
While I could spend more time questioning why she's suddenly so resistant, I love this reversal too much to care. And it teases out their courtship a little bit longer in the most delightful way! I feel like we often see the female lead except the male lead as soon as he comes to his senses, so I like that she puts protecting her heart first, especially because she's already put her heart on the line before and experienced rejection. She knows what the pain is like and doesn't want to open herself up to an even more painful experience, should his feelings just be temporary. She definitely feels as if she's dreaming all her happiness right now, so I understand why she's more scared than ever.
CEO Byun saving that woman with his car! What quick thinking! It's too bad that this didn't extend to remembering that ridiculous name they came up with! (How much do I love that this made a comeback? They clearly need to get a consensus on what their name is, haha.) His whole arc with Bong-hee was hilarious this episode!
LOL @ BH and EH always laughing and giggling in the same spot...poor Ji-wook. Haha, couldn't they have a little mercy on the guy that just got rejected?
I love the way he courts her though. He isn't persistent. He just makes his interest known! It makes it so entertaining watching her resist. My favorite moment was when she was scolding him for even shutting up when she told him to because that made it harder and then he just flails awkwardly trying to figure out what he should be doing to appease her. LOL, that is, until he gets indignant about that look in her eyes and switches them back into work mode! I also cracked up so much at JW trying to subtly join the parade of people @ BH's desk though. He was so not smooth at all, but she's too affected by his proximity right now to notice.
Haha, some of the epilogues are so extra and I love it. He won her a bunny version of him from a claw-machine to go with hers! That is too adorable.

I couldn't get much of an epilogue again, but I'll check back with Youtube later. I'm sure it'll pop up.
And yes, absolutely, I love the re-hashing of certain fun and significant bits, not only the 'unknown' name of their firm, but the running joke of Byun ending up as Bong Hee's son if he drinks, and the love-for-all-mankind pat on the head, the forgetting to breathe and the total failure of all their meetings because Byun will just side-track it to talk about himself. Just love all of them, slotted in just at the right time and not too much ... repeating doesn't seem to dim the wit or take away the funny. Show is amazing!

All I could think about in that running scene was- ji wook has legs for daaaaaaays!
Squeeing aside- I'm happy to see that the villain and our protagonists are evenly matched in terms of smarts! I love that Bonghee quickly caught on, and I'm glad the drama did not drag out Bonghee and Jiwook chasing their suspicions of Hyunsoo separately and that they got on the same page about that. I don't like it when our sleuths with the same mission are carrying out their own missions! Although I totally understand why Jiwook decided not to tell Bonghee right away. But if this had gone on for much longer with our villain being super creepy and smart, I would have started to get frustrated. This drama is perfect on pacing.

I also love how quickly Bong-hee put things together. Hyun-soo coming clean about his alibi could have made her want to continue to believe in him because of that gesture of trust, but I love how this only prompts her to analyze Ji-wook's recent behavior and come to the proper conclusion. She very simply acknowledges that Ji-wook would not have reacted this way towards Hyun-soo from this revelation alone, unless there were other reasons to be suspicious. I also love that, when it comes down to it, a lot of their suspicion comes down to gut feeling. Hyun-soo is a pretty fascinating and impressive villain, but he does betray a bit of his own creepiness in moments, so I'm glad that our protagonists are allowed to have a sense for that sort of thing.
This turn of events opens them all up to the mind-games now and I can't wait. I'm so glad that Bong-hee knows now because she's actually pretty good at stuff like this when she knows what she's dealing with. She's had practice with people like Ji-hye in her life, lol!
I'm also very happy with Bong-hee for scolding Ji-wook for not letting her know right away! That was definitely a mistake on his part and I'm glad he recognized it.

Its nice to see a heroine give the hero a little bit of payback before eventually getting back together. Most of the time we see the heroine suffer what it seems like a one sided love to her but as soons as we get a kiss they get together and its all pink and roses. Specially since she didnt say she didnt love him or woulndt just that he needs to take a sip of his own medicine. Plus, c'mon those puppy eyes he was giving her! I want more!

Now for me to simply say:
YESSS. That dinner party was the best cliffhanger yet!
Did we move Ji-wook's office into his home so we could have many tension-filled meals with serial killers? This gave total I Remember You feels and I want moreeee. I want him to cook for Hyun-soo all the time now! HS has clearly been going for a "keep your enemies close" approach and they're proving that they can play at that game too!
Also, this is random, but I just loved how JW kept nonchalantly eating the food on the table, even through YJ's dramatic announcement about reopening Bong-hee's case. Lol, boy couldn't care less.
Even though I'm slightly pissed at YJ's motivations for reopening the case, I guess, ultimately, I'm too focused on being happy at this turn of events. I feel like I can expect her to, at the very least, be fair in her judgement. And it's necessary for the case to get solved so this is actually an exciting plot development! Because the murderer, ironically, really is sitting at that table with them, hehe! Now things are getting pretty damn interesting!

Thanks for the recap!
-My first thought was "Oh thank god CH is still alive." And I was relieved to discover that JW and BH did look for him, rather than just heading home.
-I wanted to shake BH and JW during their night conversation, but when JW was honest the next day (so quickly!) I nearly cheered. When he didn't immediately respond to BH I had conflicted feelings - on the one hand, I believe honesty is always best in relationships, but on the other hand, he was being so careful about letting BH get over him and not hurting or confusing her. In that sense, being honest about his feelings could be hurtful if not done in the right way. However, all of those doubts went away because he was so respectful of her feelings while also refusing to just drop the matter. Also when he drank from her mug I had to stop and fan myself. As a side note, I do still think BH's response is fair, although I can't say I'd have that level of willpower, were I in her shoes.
-The slow death of JH's admiration for YJ is so entertaining to me.
-I'm really enjoying how smart of a villain HS is. So far, he's been pretty good at staying a step ahead of our lawyers, and I'm looking forward to what future episodes bring.

True! I really appreciate that we have an intelligent villain here and good guys who are not walkovers either. We're going to have one suspenseful showdown, and now that Yoo Jung has been pulled into re-investigation, I'm hoping that finally she'll end up on Bong Hee's side and these 2 girls who had so much potential to have been friends from the start, will get their chance at it. If it were possible at this stage, I'd also like YJ to have the chance to at least be comfortable with her childhood friends again as well. It's time for all 3 of them to really move on and away from mistrust and unforgiveness.

Thanks for the recap, LollyPip. I must say that first with SWDBS and now with Suspicious Partner, it's so refreshing to see how sexy the acting like mature and sensible people can be, lol! The respect for people's wishes, and not being (overly) pushy....it's all so awesome.
What is NOT so awesome is the Yoo-jung(/Eun-hyuk) angle (yes, I'm never gonna let that go). At this point, if the writers are hoping to set her up with EH (ew), shouldn't she at least be displaying some redemptive qualities by now? All I get from her is NO real remorse whatsoever for her part in the rift between the three of them, and this bizarre sense of entitlement to their adoration (like the way things were before). It's neither cute nor mature, and does nothing to recommend her.
Which is where another problem I have with the show comes in. They've done such a good job of redeeming Eun-hyuk and showing how sorry he is for what he did (I'm not having it, but it's not for lack of the show trying to sell it)........why exactly is Yoo-jung not getting the same treatment? For her remorse to ring true, wouldn't it be better to show her growth? At this rate, when will she change, if at all?

I still keep getting this feeling that they're more to the story than Eun-hyuk just betraying Ji-Wook. They haven't shown that scene from anyone but JW's perspective, and this writer has done that with several other characters to show a more complete story. It's been established that JW never heard EH's side, so it's possible.
I mean, it could just be wishful thinking, but the look on EH's face in the flashback scene in this episode wasn't right, somehow: not surprised JW was there maybe? Relief because the deception was over? I'm not sure, but it just feels like there's some information missing, even if it ends up being more damning.

Why hasn't District Attorney Jang been charged with fabricating evidence? Shoudn't Yoo-jung and Ji-hae have an obligation to prosecute him for obstruction of justice after hearing his confession?
It is definitely abuse of power to open up an reinvestigation when there is no new evidence surfaced and it is clearly due for personal vendetta.

And then I also thought... well prosecutors WOULD do something like that... and then I had to catch myself. That's my American-version of leftist leaning presumptions coming out.

I think he is so sure of his power and that he specifically picked the prosecutors he did because they have an ulterior motive to attack Bong-hee as well. They aren't going to hold him accountable to his actions because a) he's a bigger fish than they can catch, and b) they can use this opportunity to get Bong-hee out of their hair. I think once they dig deeper and realize Bong-hee really isn't the killer, the tables will turn and DA Jang is going to find himself trapped.

It's gross that he would try to pit the girls against each other.
I'm hoping against hope that YJ and JH, even if they don't like BH, will be open to evidence that doesn't point to BH and there was something good that led them to their chosen careers. I also hope the tables will turn and all 3 ladies can take down Hyun Soo AND DA Jang.

I hope that's the end game, too. It's interesting how more people are angry at DA Jang than the actual killer. Goes to show how being corrupt and entitled feels like more of a crime than murder. But, then maybe it's different forms of entitlement? Both think they have the right to control another person's life (and death). I think what angers us the most is that we can foresee the justice against the murderer but not necessarily for the corrupt official. At least not yet.

I LOVE THIS EPISODE!!!! How can I not? The opening where Ji-wook totally acknowledges his feelings and his reason why it took him too long to do so made me feel that he really needs Bong-hee's love more than anything else.
I liked Chan-ho even when I was suspecting him a few episodes ago and now I'm afraid that when Hyun-soo finds out that he survived the fall he'd totally go and kill him.
Ji-wook doesn't realize that he's actually getting closer to Eun-hyuk again. Well, how could he realize it if Eun-hyuk makes him jealous? He's the best wing man ever.
But what I love the most is that Bong-hee stands her ground but she still shows him affection. I mean, liking Ji-wook wasn't easy and getting rejected then asked to stop liking him was pure torture... so I can get why she doesn't just leap into his arms when he confessed (which is probably what we would've done).
Still, knowing that she cares for Ji-wook makes him like her more and more because he sees it even when she denies it. She's just so transparent to him now.
I will totally enjoy the following episodes because Ji-wook says that he'll wait but... damn, if he's all over Bong-hee like that, I doubt that she'll last long on her resistance~

That scene where she decided to stay five minutes was so compassionate and human, it really showed her character's strength.

I know everybody is going sqeeeee! over the kiss and over his confession the next morning, but my favorite part of this relationship is the "please stay five minutes" aspect of his inability to sleep. LollyPip you shouldn't be surprised at how easily Ji-wook has exposed his vulnerability because he's been exposed for a long time already. When he asked Bong-hee to stay five minutes so he could fall asleep, he was already exposing his soul. The fact that she offers those five minutes again after his nightmare puts a lie to her words that she'll never fall for him even though he is so cute when asleep.

Come to think of it, this is also why I think Bog-hee is so mad. Ji-wook exposed his vulnerability so easily to her yet rejected her (which would be confusing to anyone, especially given that he is so closed off). Suddenly, now he's all about that kiss and all about exposing his soul. Dude, if you were so exposed before and told be not to like you, how can you not expect some wrath now that you've changed your mind?
BTW, this is great writing!

That actually make senses. He shows his vulnerability but tells her to stop liking him. He's sending her mixed signals which just confuses the poor gal. And when she finally decided to stop liking him out of respect for his decision, he decided to reciprocate those feelings. I don't blame both Ji-Wook and Bong-Hee. It was just bad timing.

That was the moment when I felt truly impressed at her ability to resist! Moments of vulnerability like that are the ones that really show how genuine and intense his feelings are for her and I would not have blamed her for giving in then. Definitely my favorite moment actually, even more than the moment I mentioned in my comment!

This show is so magical that I want to somehow squeeze more out of every moment. That sexual tension. I find myself wishing I could see more and thinking about watching other Ji Chang Wook shows to fill the time until the next episode. But even though I love Healer Bong Sookie isn't going to give me the delight that is Ji Wook. He's just so perfect. I don't want to rewatch yet because I'm afraid the magic will be lost if I do it too soon after seeing it the first time. I'm just waiting until the next ep.
I'm feeling the magic again! Thank you Suspicious Partner!

Awww I am so in love with this show! I keep on finding myself on edge if this will be the episode things will drag (Yes, sadly I am a pessimist) but I am so happy with the way the show handles each episode and angst scenes which are not dragging and I actually am on board with. I get BH's hesitation, but really how long can she last with JW looking at her like that, right?
I love love love that he's going to be the one chasing her now, so much cute potential.
PS. I mentioned in an earlier post how I don't know how I can forgive EH if he was the one that cheated with YJ but his sad eyes just cut to the heart, so I forgive you EH! I hope you can get a happy ending.

Eun-hyuk, why so cute? And heartbreaking too, when he follows Yoo-jung from across the street. ISTG, this puppy needs to be happy soon(!), and I wish he's still not that head over heels for YJ because I still don't like her, but since he is... *sighs Then, whatever makes him happy. Just never betray him or anyone ever again, YJ, you've been warned!
Oh, and how cute is it that EH calls Bong-hee with "Bong Bong"!
I'm also hyped for the next episode(s). More screentime of EH and JW together, yay!
As for JiBong... Well, what else is new? They're still golden together, still inducing 'foolish grins' out of me even when I watched the unsubbed episode(s), and I'm all for them to get officially together stat, but it's also fun watching the role reversal: BH tries the denial route and JW plays the pursuer. Don't forget to breathe, BH!

Yes!! I guess these 'country bumpkin' names are not so bad after all? I totally got SWDBS flashbacks when EH called her Bong Bong!
JW plays it cool but he needs to remember to breathe too! While I want both these puppies to be happy, JW should grovel a little bit longer for making a girl wait! Stay strong BH don't give in too soon!

I have to say that I love Ji Chang Wook here, I truly like the way he's playing this role, the way he portrays all the emotions and feelings really hooked me. And I just love Ji Woo, as I mentioned in another opportunity, I like the vibe that this character has, his old-soul air, how real his emotions feel, so raw; how he can express so many things with a gesture, a gaze; he really hits my heart. And it's not only that, it's his personality in general, he's so polite, respectful, so thoughtful, and, although he has his conflicts, and sometimes he gets upset and loses his temper (in a crazy and funny way), he seems quite calm. In some scenes he radiates like, this peace and tranquility, I think, as EBH says, that he really has a glow of light; and he seems so pure and so good, that it really breaks my soul to see him suffer, when he feels bad because he isn't doing what he wants, when he suffers from his insomnia, when he suffers for EBH, that's why I want her not to torture him for a long time, and make him happy, because she seems to be a great medicine for him, perhaps the medicine he needed for a long time. And besides, they have to be together, because they are really great as a couple. So be together, please, immediately.
