Fight My Way: Episode 6
by LollyPip
There’s nothing like having a friend who just gets you in every way possible, who cries with you when you’re down and celebrates your successes as if they were their own. The only thing better would be if that friend were also the love of your life, and luckily for Ae-ra and Dong-man, they’ve already started down that path. Even luckier for us is that they have no idea what these new and strange feelings are about, because we get to enjoy the awkward moments every time one of them gets all hot and bothered and has no idea why.
Round 6: “Dear, don’t give me that kiss”
After losing his fight, Dong-man wakes in the hospital to find Ae-ra wailing over him at top volume. Ae-ra yells at him not to fight anymore, making soggy threats never to see him again in between gasping sobs. Amused, Dong-man asks if Moo-bin knows that she looks like a baboon when she cries, HA.
Ae-ra just snaps at him again before bursting into a fresh bout of tears. Dong-man fusses at her for eating her hair and reaches to push it out of her mouth, which is so sweet.
The mood is ruined by ex-girlfriend Hye-ran, who runs in to ask in a wobbly voice if Dong-man is okay, though her voice is perfectly stable when she tells Ae-ra to leave. For the first time, Dong-man speaks in Hye-ran’s presence, taking Ae-ra’s hand and saying that Hye-ran is the one who needs to leave. He adds for her to stop contacting him and showing up at his home.
He calls it horrible to keep seeing her, but Hye-ran just says that she’ll go for now. Ae-ra reminds her of her warning not to go near Dong-man again, and Hye-ran tells Ae-ra to know her place, and that Dong-man is only holding Ae-ra’s hand to make a point, not because he wants to hold it. She tells Dong-man to pick up when she calls, otherwise she’ll take it as an invitation to visit in person.
After she leaves, Ae-ra yanks her hand out of Dong-man’s grip, asking if he really only held her hand to make Hye-ran angry. Exhausted, Dong-man pouts that he doesn’t know.
On the way home, Dong-man remembers that Hye-ran waited for him while he was in the army. Ae-ra says that she saw Hye-ran with other guys while he was gone, then complains that Dong-man will probably let Hye-ran sucker him in again.
Coach Hwang drives up, and Ae-ra orders him to kill Dong-man. Coach Hwang looks like he’s ready to make him pay for fighting against his advice. But instead of getting hit as Dong-man expects, Coach Hwang grabs him in a big, relieved bear-hug. He says that Dong-man’s lucky to be alive, then takes him to a pojangmacha for some dinner.
While they eat, Coach Hwang watches the video of Dong-man’s fight. Rather than being upset over his loss, Coach Hwang notices that the one punch Dong-man managed to land really shook up his opponent. He knows by the fighter’s tattoo that he’s a member of the Karel family.
We see the tattoo again as Karel shakes hands with Tak-soo at the airport, and Tak-soo tells him that he sent the money for his wife’s medical bills. In halting English, Karel tells Tak-soo to avoid Dong-man at all costs, “because you will lose,” but Tak-soo doesn’t understand him.
Coach Hwang explains to Dong-man that the Karels are a three-generation family of Brazilian jujitsu fighters, and that last night he fought the second son. He likens Dong-man’s punch to a kindergartner landing a punch on a college student—it means that Dong-man is a lot better than they thought.
Not only did he land a solid punch, but Tak-soo’s coach says that that punch broke two of the Brazilian fighter’s ribs. It’s even more worrisome that it wasn’t one of Dong-man’s famous kicks that did it, but a punch.
Joo-man reluctantly sends Seol-hee to put in an appearance at his nephew’s first birthday party, then heads off to work. The girls run into Dong-man, who’s more excited than ever about fighting.
Seol-hee fishes for a compliment in her lacy pink dress, so Ae-ra obliges by saying that she looks like the perfect daughter-in-law. She says that parents love the “puppy type” like Seol-hee, and Seol-hee says that Ae-ra is the “kitten type” that guys like. They preen, while Dong-man stares like they’re speaking another language.
He invites Ae-ra to lunch, but Ae-ra snaps that he should eat with his girlfriend Hye-ran. The girls flounce off arm-in-arm, leaving Dong-man to trail after them, wondering why Ae-ra is suddenly acting like a girl.
Dong-man and Ae-ra end up eating at the same convenience store, but at different tables. Ae-ra checks her email, and she leaps up when she finds a message saying that she’s landed an announcer interview at KBC. She tells Dong-man in a disbelieving voice, and he screams and jumps with excitement right along with her.
But at the feel of Ae-ra bouncing up against him, Dong-man freezes solid, and he tries desperately to think of some words. Unable to look at her, he pushes her away and squeaks, “Hey… why do you go around like that?”
HAHAHA, Ae-ra just now realizes that she’s not wearing a bra, and Dong-man’s knees nearly buckle. He gives her his jacket for the walk home, though he jokes that it’s not really necessary, pfft.
They run into the landlady on their building’s stairs, and she finally tells them her name, KANAKO HWANG. She warns Dong-man and Ae-ra that they’re not allowed to sleep in the same room, and they both choke. Dong-man stammers that he blocks all advances on Ae-ra, then immediately afterwards, he angles for an invitation to her place for coffee. Ae-ra glares and says she’s “blocking” him, hee.
Seol-hee’s mom meets her at the subway station, weighed down with food to send to the party. She tells Seol-hee to hurry and get married so she can quit her awful job, and when they arrive at the party venue, Mom refuses to come in, and just reminds Seol-hee to set a date for the parents to meet regarding her marriage.
Hye-ran shows up at the apartment building, but instead of going to Dong-man’s place, she rings Ae-ra’s doorbell. Ae-ra is practicing her announcing, but she stops to look up Hye-ran’s bio on the KBC site just to snarl at her.
Thinking that it’s Dong-man at the door, Ae-ra opens it to find Hye-ran smirking at her. Hye-ran pushes her way in and makes herself at home, and she sees herself on Ae-ra’s laptop and purrs that Ae-ra must see her as a role model. As if.
She tells Ae-ra that before she visits Dong-man, she wanted to tell her that she intends to start over with him, listing all of her assets as reasons why Dong-man can’t possibly reject her. She says that she’s not asking her permission—she’s giving Ae-ra notice that Dong-man belongs to her. She tells Ae-ra not to make herself any more pathetic than she already is, pretending to be his friend when she really wants more.
Outside, Dong-man decides to try to talk to Ae-ra again, but he can’t bring himself to knock. He ends up yelling through the door that he takes back what he said about her, asking awkwardly why she keeps getting upset with him lately.
Frustrated, Ae-ra opens the door and tells Dong-man to take Hye-ran away. Hye-ran sees him and starts in with her sickly-sweet, “Oppa… “ but Dong-man levelly asks why she’s here. She says she was worried about him, and Dong-man admits that his heart sank when he heard of her divorce, and he couldn’t breathe when she called him.
Ae-ra hears this much through an open window and slams it shut, assuming that Dong-man is falling for Hye-ran’s act again. She tells herself that she doesn’t care anymore, and that they deserve each other.
Hye-ran also thinks that Dong-man’s words mean that he’s glad to see her. But he pulls away, clarifying that he felt that way because he feared she would show up again and make him relive those horrible five years. He asks her to get lost and leaves her there.
Joo-man’s family obviously sees Seol-hee as beneath them, making faces at her homemade food and even gagging at the smell of the pigs’ feet that her parents sell. Joo-man’s sister says that the food her mother made doesn’t fit the party theme, and his mother asks why Seol-hee didn’t try to talk Joo-man into coming to the party.
At the office, Joo-man finds Ye-jin crouched beside the copy machine, covered in ink. She blinks up at him pathetically, reminding him of the moment he fell for Seol-hee—she’d been in a similar situation, kneeling among the pieces of a broken cash register.
Once Hye-ran is gone, Dong-man sits outside Ae-ra’s door, calling for her to talk to him. She gets a call from Moo-bin, who wants to see her. Hearing Dong-man’s voice again, Ae-ra thinks about Hye-ran’s accusation that she secretly wants Dong-man, so she agrees to see Moo-bin.
Dong-man stops her when she leaves, wanting to know where she’s going and swearing that he didn’t call Hye-ran. Ae-ra asks why he’s telling her this, asking angrily, “Do you like me? Do I like you?” Stunned and hurt, Dong-man just stares silently. Ae-ra says that they need to maintain their boundaries, unwilling to give Hye-ran a reason to pity her again.
Eventually Joo-man gets the printer working again, and Ye-jin wipes a smudge of ink off his lip with her fingers. She offers to buy him a drink after work as thanks, and when he declines, she invites him to see a movie this weekend. He keeps turning down her offers, until finally she just grabs his tie and kisses him. Frustrated, she yells at him to stop complicating things, then runs off.
Dong-man helps Coach Hwang put up flyers for the gym as he tries to compose an apology text to Ae-ra, though he really doesn’t know what he’s apologizing for. He notices that the flyers list his physical attributes, and asks why. Coach Hwang says that he did it to entice the women in town (while fondling Dong-man’s butt, hee).
There’s a reporter waiting at the gym to take pictures of Dong-man, but all Coach Hwang will tell him is that they’re for their counterattack. He tells Dong-man that he’s booked his debut match, having seen him fight the Brazilian and decided that he’s ready, and Dong-man beams excitedly.
After the photo shoot, one of the fighters at the gym invites Dong-man to spar. He taunts Dong-man about the fight he lost, but Dong-man throws one punch and the jerk sinks to his knees in pain, ha.
Seol-hee’s mother realizes that she forgot to leave her gift for the baby, so she treks all the way back to the party. When she gets there, she sees Seol-hee in an apron and work gloves carrying heavy trash bags, taking orders from Joo-man’s sister instead of enjoying the party.
Mom overhears Joo-man’s family talking nastily about Seol-hee, saying that her brother should have checked out Seol-hee’s family background before dating her. They even talk about a blind date they’ve set up for Joo-man with a much more suitable girl.
By the time she gets to her old workplace where Moo-bin is waiting, Ae-ra isn’t feeling well. She clutches her side, using the pain as an excuse for why she’s not in her uniform, since she doesn’t know that Moo-bin is already aware that she quit.
We see Landlady Hwang visiting the department store, dressed to the nines and strutting around like she owns the place. She tells the store manager to get better control over the shoppers, mentioning the chairman’s shoplifting wife as an example.
Landlady Hwang says that she heard about an innocent employee being forced to kneel and apologize to the thief, warning that stories like that can get a store closed for good. She’s suddenly sweet as pie as she says that all she wants is a store where VIPs aren’t allowed to abuse their power.
When Moo-bin asks how she’s feeling, Ae-ra says that she has minor irritable bowel syndrome and that it’s been a stressful day. She admits that Moo-bin’s “surprises” don’t help, saying that he’d be uncomfortable too if she kept showing up at his place of work.
He says that actually, he’d like that a lot, but promises to give more warning from now on. Ae-ra decides to come clean and tells him that she quit her job, and Moo-bin pretends to be hearing this for the first time.
She tells him her dream of being an announcer, and that she’s got an interview at KBC. Moo-bin thinks that sounds perfect for her, and he thanks Ae-ra for being honest with him, taking it as a sign that they’re growing closer.
When she gets a chance, Seol-hee asks Joo-man’s mother nervously when the two families should formally meet. Joo-man’s mom agrees that they should do that, though she says it won’t be soon since she has a bum knee that needs treatment. But as Seol-hee watches her bouncing the baby without a problem, she knows it’s a lie to put off any marriage talk.
Coach Hwang catches Dong-man reading articles about Tak-soo, angry that he goes out clubbing while Dong-man is stuck in the gym. He tells Coach Hwang that he gets more upset whenever he thinks about how they they tricked him, but Coach says that Dong-man’s brain isn’t meant for thinking. So true.
Tak-soo is at a bar right now with a girl, insisting that she’s the only one for him yet refusing to let her look at his phone to see whether he’s texting other girls. Dong-man enters the bar and finds Tak-soo’s manager Tae-hee, and then goes downstairs to confront Tak-soo.
Without any warning, Dong-man grabs Tak-soo’s hand and twists it painfully, then he executes another slick move that lands him on the floor. He thanks Tak-soo for giving him the chance to learn some jujitsu, then he leans closer to whisper that no matter what, they’ll end up in the ring together.
After the party, Joo-man’s family opens the gifts, and they’re shocked to find that the envelope from Seol-hee’s mother contains a fat wad of cash. They’re further surprised when Joo-man shows up, looking thunderous and asking for Seol-hee. He finds her cleaning and drags her out to the dining room, then he orders the attention of his family.
He tells them not to look down on Seol-hee, and his sister asks Seol-hee if she tattled on them to Joo-man. He loses his temper, bellowing that Seol-hee was cleaning when it’s not even her family’s party.
Seol-hee begs him to calm down, but he continues, saying that he’s not so great, just an assistant manager who went to a local college. But through all that, Seol-hee worked and supported him, and Joo-man tells his family that they should be thanking her.
His sister snaps that it’s not like he’s rushing to marry Seol-hee and make her part of the family, and Joo-man agrees. But he says that even if he doesn’t marry Seol-hee, he won’t marry anyone else but her, either.
When Moo-bin pulls up to Ae-ra’s building, she asks nervously if he’s going to watch her go in again. This time he says he’s going in with her, then he pops the trunk to reveal a heart-shaped bouquet of flowers (saying that it’s how Ahn Jae-hyun won Gu Hye-sun, hee). He’s even added a foot massager to the presentation, which he insists on carrying to her apartment for her.
Ae-ra is horrified, but there’s nothing she can do but follow him up the stairs. The stress sets off her stomach pain again, but Moo-bin doesn’t listen as she begs him to wait. Landlady Hwang sees them and demands to know what Moo-bin is doing here. The stomach pain is too much, and Ae-ra collapses on the stairs, unconscious.
Seol-hee gives Joo-man’s hand a little kiss on the bus ride home, thinking that it’s kind of sweet that he defended her that way, but Joo-man asks why she’s so submissive, wondering what she thinks she lacks. Seol-hee says that she doesn’t lack anything, she just likes him so much that she wants his family to like her.
He can’t help but smile to know that she cares about him that much. Seol-hee tells him that seeing him get angry was sexy, and when she kisses his hand again, he complains that that’s not his lips and is rewarded with a real kiss.
Seol-hee asks how he knew what was happening and why he came to rescue her. Joo-man says that he left work early because her mom texted him, and he even shows her the text. We see that Seol-hee’s mom had cleaned up the busted trash bag that Seol-hee was dealing with at the party, then she’d written an angry message to Joo-man saying that she won’t allow him to marry Seol-hee because she’ll never let a family like his have her daughter.
But she’d deleted it, and the message she sent in the end was very different. She said that Seol-hee cares about him so much that she went to his family’s party, then she simply asked him to take care of her daughter. Seol-hee reads the message and sobs, knowing that her mother must have cleaned up that trash and seen everything. Joo-man sweetly wipes her tears and holds her while she cries.
Moo-bin gets Ae-ra to the hospital and has some tests run, learning that her irritable bowel syndrome caused painful gas to build up, and that’s why she fainted. Ae-ra pretends to be unconscious, but her lips tighten at that, and she wants to die when the doctors discuss whether or not she farted (Moo-bin: “Twice. One of them was quite long.” HAHA).
Dong-man’s texts to Ae-ra are still going unanswered, which worries him. He’s distracted when Landlady Hwang drives up and tells him that Ae-ra was taken to the hospital, and she even tells him what room he can find her in.
As Moo-bin sits by her bedside waiting for her to officially wake up, Ae-ra’s stomach lets out a long, loud gurgle. Moo-bin tries to listen to the noise so Ae-ra sits up, weakly faking that she just now woke up. She flinches every time Moo-bin mentions gas, then she looks around the fancy suite she’s in and says she wants to go home. Moo-bin’s face falls and he asks why she always wants to go home whenever she’s with him.
Her phone rings and they both see that it’s Dong-man, but Moo-bin asks her not to answer. He asks if she can’t look at him instead, then admits that he paid for this expensive room hoping to win points with her. He asks why she finds him so uncomfortable: “Why does your stomach hurt when you’re with me?”
It’s the most unguarded he’s been with Ae-ra, and she thinks that he’s so sweet he’s giving her a toothache. As he rambles about how he’s doing all this just to spend more time with her, she wishes he’d stop, because she’s already sick and vulnerable and he’s making her waver.
Moo-bin sits next to her on the bed, and he says softly that just looking at her makes his heart go crazy. Ae-ra groans that it’s unfair to do things like this when a person is sick, but Moo-bin says he’s willing to go low. He darts forward and kisses her, then does it again—which is when Dong-man throws the door open.
He takes in the scene, and Ae-ra stammers that this isn’t what it looks like. Dong-man slams the door shut and storms off down the hall, but then he stops. His expression hardens, he turns around, and he marches right back toward Ae-ra’s hospital room.
Epilogue.
On vaccination day at school, little Ae-ra’s tummy acts up, making her gassy. The other kids complain about the smell, and Dong-man sees her embarrassment and forces out a toot, taking the blame and making him Ae-ra’s instant hero. Later, she pats his head and brings him candy as thanks.
The trick doesn’t work so well when he farts in her face another day, hoping for a share of her snack. He can’t understand why this time, all he gets is a whack on the head for his trouble.
COMMENTS
I just love it when the epilogues are about Dong-man and Ae-ra as kids! They’ve always been adorable together, and I swear Park Seo-joon must have studied his childhood counterpart’s expressions, because they get the exact same look on their faces when Ae-ra does something that makes them swoon. So freaking cute!
I have no idea why Dong-man doesn’t drive me crazy in a bad way, because generally I hate dumb jock/meathead sorts of characters. Bless his heart, but he’s just not that smart, so it’s a good thing that he’s otherwise so sweet (not to mention pretty). I don’t think I would like Dong-man half so much if he were being played by any other actor, and that’s not just my Park Seo-joon bias talking. Somehow, Park manages to make Dong-man so endearing and squishable, and while he’s not so quick on the uptake sometimes, he never seems stupid. And most of all, you can tell that he has a true heart of gold. He genuinely cares about his friends and he’s loyal to a fault, and you just can’t help but love that befuddled, blank look he gets any time Ae-ra gets into his personal space. His brain just completely shorts out, and I could watch him forget how to speak whenever Ae-ra is near all day long.
It’s interesting to me how Dong-man and Ae-ra are such complete opposites, yet it’s exactly why they get along so well. Where Dong-man is solid but slow, Ae-ra is fierce and whip-smart, quick to anger and even quicker to stick a foot in her mouth. She’s a woman that you want to be friends with, in no small part so that she doesn’t become your enemy. But her lightning temper also leads her to jump to incorrect conclusions, such as her assumption that Dong-man is going to take Hye-ran back—not because of anything he’s done, but because it’s Ae-ra’s worst fear. But I just love it when Ae-ra is angry at Dong-man because of something she’s made up entirely in her head, and poor Dong-man is left apologizing when he hasn’t the slightest clue what he did wrong.
On the other hand, Hye-ran is the type of character that I hate most of all, the one that thinks that what she wants is all that matters, and that railroading anyone who disagrees is a reasonable response to rejection. Dong-man and Ae-ra can’t possibly have been any clearer with her—she’s not wanted, and they don’t wish to see or hear from her ever again. The kind of person who responds to that with, “I’ll call you, so pick up or I’ll just come in person,” is nothing short of a sociopath, someone who doesn’t give a rat’s patootie about anyone’s feelings but their own. I know that people like this exist even outside of dramas, but I’ll never understand why someone would want to be with a person who wants nothing to do with them. Isn’t the whole point of love that it’s so good because the other person loves you back?
So, as much as I love that Ae-ra is ready to fight this witch on Dong-man’s behalf, I’m even happier that he finally got a chance to tell Hye-ran exactly how he feels. He’s not happy to see her, and just the thought of her showing up again makes him feel sick. But he’s still so affected by Hye-ran that just speaking to her is an effort, so it’s good that he’s got Ae-ra to fight her for him when he can’t. I don’t think we’ve seen the last of Hye-ran and her manipulative little Oppa…, and I can see her going after Ae-ra’s weakness (her feelings for Dong-man) and causing a lot of trouble before everyone’s emotions get straightened out.
Moo-bin isn’t acting any better, taking advantage of Ae-ra’s weak moments to play on her emotions and win her favor. Ae-ra is right that it’s a low thing to do because it catches her when her guard is down, but Moo-bin doesn’t seem to care. He’s such a beta male that it’s probably the only way he knows to win a girl like her, and I don’t think he even does it consciously, but in a lot of ways it’s manipulative. So I cheered when Dong-man turned around and went back to confront Moo-bin, or maybe Ae-ra—either way, it’s time that someone around here admitted what they’re truly feeling.

What I loved about today's episode:
- Dong Man holding Ae Ra's hand: i like to think that he did it unconsciously
- Ae Ra hugging Dong Man after knowing that she passed: i loved how she forgot that she was mad at him(and the aftermath though..)
What I hated about today's episode:
- that sneaky ex-girlfriend: how dare you go to the hospital and order Ae Ra to leave? Who gives you the authority to do that???
- That sneaky girlfriend going in to Ae Ra's house
- That sneaky girlfriend in general

MAI GAHD, I just about FLIPPED when Puke-Face pushed her way into AeRa's house. How is that not trespassing?!?!?!?!?!
And "if you don't pick up, I'll take that to mean that you want me to come in person" I just straight up got disgusted and nothing will cure me.
Someone needs to put a restraining order on this one because she's a real public hazard!

How would Hye Ran have known DM was even in the hospital? I was so distracted by that question, I had a hard time catching up with the scene.

What I hated about today's episode:
- Everything about that Park Hye Ran. Geez, how rude can she be to barge straight into somebody's house and start insulting the person? Does she feel no guilt for what she did? She reminds me a little of Yoo Jung in Suspicious Partner with the whole "I didn't do anything wrong", but levelled up - she's way more malicious and scheming. Even the way she says "oppa" grates on my nerves
- I also really hated Joo Man's family. If he came from such a humble background, I assume the sisters married rich and were able to afford fancy dresses and birthday parties - which means they should have no right to look down on SH. If they were so rich, why would SH have to support their brother through college? And it irks me even more that SH's mum had to send him a text for him to appear. He couldn't even make an appearance even though he knew she would be treated that way? As much as he scolded them for not respecting her, he himself should treat her better. And SH, oh SH... I do love how she's so giving and sacrificial, because she loves JM so much that she doesn't mind going through all that so that they can be together, but this is one drama trope that I absolutely hate, when the girl lowers herself and is all meek and submissive just because she needs his family's approval.
- Kim Tak Su. Well, no explanation needed on this one.

I think PHR knows that their is a special bond between DM and AR and it makes her insecure. Hence her arrogance to attack AR. And I agree, I might punch my screen if I have to hear "oppa" one more time. If she's smart, she'll realize that she'll need to switch up her tactics to even have a chance to get into DM's good graces again.

JM was totally right: Sul-hee is TOO submissive...and while she's adorable and likeable, I don't like how she lets other people stomp on her. It frustrates me to no end, and I can totally understand why it makes JM angry.
I hope Sul-hee has a growth arc, where she will finally be able to stand up for herself.

"Kim Tak Su. Well, no explanation needed on this one." LOOOL.
And I agree with you so much. How dare Jooman's family look down on Sulhee when they were poor not too long ago themselves. Even while Jooman was yelling at them, they didn't show an ounce of remorse for their actions which made me just hate them more. ugh.

While he was scolding his family, all I could think about was that he knew SH was going to be mistreated and yet he let her go alone. She had mentioned going to this party before and I don't remember him saying anything like "hey. My family is going to bully you. Don't let them push you around. Stay for 30 minutes and leave. " and is he planning to marry her or what? I think part of the reason SH is so submissive to his family because she is expecting to be the daughter-in-law and it seems like in general, korean society has the expectation that the daughter-in-law is to be submissive to the husband's family. But if he's not planning to marry her...

I think she's submissive because it's her personality. However I do agree that she helped as much as she did because she expects to marry the guy and become their daughter-in-law. But then like you said he said that maybe he won't marry her. Which is why I don't completely get why she's happy he came and "save her" or whatever. So does she not want to legally marry him? I'm kind of lost here

She definitely wants to marry him. I don't think he wants to marry her yet because he doesn't think he's set up enough. He can't afford a long term rent on an apartment, they probably can't afford the wedding itself. I think he does want to marry her but he's waiting til he's financially comfortable.

This episode was thoroughly enjoyable! so many funny scene but 'the thing' scene was the show stealer! While I am liking Dong Man and Ae Ra's progress towards falling in love, I really really and really hate Hye Ran and Moo Bin. He is damn pushy and manipulative. Who tells somebody sick that I spent sooo much money on your hospital bill, so now you should like me...ugh. Further, I am quite confused where the writer is leading us with Sul Hee's story...I mean every second episode, we see her getting into trouble, Joo Man rescuing (literally) her and then both of them become lovey dovey for two seconds...maybe that's the vice of a long term relationship that they've had...I just need to see Sul hee stand up for herself, love or not!

Exactly! I couldn't believe Moo Bin was guilting her about the room. She was still feeling terrible. Also let the lady have a minute to breathe. No one asks Moo Bin to do or buy anything. He's adorable in theory, in practice he is a little to into his own fantasy of how a relationship should be. I like his honestly but you can't say i like you and lets begin date oh and stop hanging out with the friend you've known for years.

MooBin is frustrating me. I hope Aera can find it in her to just end it and tell him all the things he's doing wrong. Since they're not the end game, he's going move on to another girl and do the same thing. And if she's a quality girl, she's not going to like him flaunting his money and emotionally manipulating her.

He lives in his own world and he tries to appear like the perfect guy that no one can complain about. The problem is that perfect is boring and annoying in this particular case. I always found him useless because let's be honest, he's no second-lead-chasing-after-the-lead-girl material.

late but this exactly- Moo-bin doesn't seem as bad as Hye-ran, but he's still way out of bounds with Ae-ra though in his case it looks more like ignorance/plain cluelessness about how to woo a girl, rather than ill intentions or malice. Though the entitlement is something he and Hye-ran have in common, they just manifest it in different ways.

I am just going to rant for one minute...
Moo-bin is seriously one of the worst characters to me. He is so manipulative and controlling and the worst thing is, is that he tries to hide it under the guise of him caring for Ae-ra. I hate that he doesn't even know what he is doing is wrong, and that just makes it worse!! I dated a guy like once and he used his "good deeds" to guilt me into continuing to date him, sort of how moo-bin did with the kiss scene and the special hospital room. Its a sort of emotional manipulation that could later turn to emotional abuse if she isn't careful. The brief moments we see of him already trying to control her just get under my skin, no matter how cute he is. Save her Dong Man!!!! Save Her!!! Just shows how good this drama is that I am getting so worked up over it.
I mean, I hate gross, witch, ex-girlfriend, but I think I might despise Moo-Bin about the same. Something about people doing selfish things and then thinking they are innocent little angels just gets me

Thanks for the recap!
-I'm so proud of DM for standing up to HR and telling her to get lost - multiple times! I like that he's grown as a person, but also it's so satisfying to watch HR get told off...even if she doesn't let it faze her for long.
-I'm actually starting to get really curious about the landlord lady. Like she's doing all these renovations herself to save money, but she seems to carry a good deal of influence socially. And her interest in the lives of her tenants makes her even more of a question mark for me.
-I actually think MB is a really interesting character. He does and says things that make me (and AR) uncomfortable, but also does and says really sweet things that make you reconsider your opinion of him. He has the potential to be really one-note but isn't and I'm glad. He also proves that some dramaland romantic gestures don't actually work in real life, which I guess sometimes we need a reminder haha.
-JM's family is a real piece of work. Kudos to him for standing up for SH; although I really wish she would learn to stand up for herself. I hope she gets the character development she deserves in the remaining episodes!
-That ending...I reeeeally don't want this to make DM go back to HR, but I guess we will have to see what happens!

As for MB, he might be trying to be sweet, but he's too occupied with his own feelings and doesn't pay enough attention to Aera imo. He really should have just given her space in the hospital instead of making her stress be about him. As a fellow sufferor of IBS i feel her completely and would have seriously slapped him in the face.

He knew but he still gave his classmate aka the "enemy" his shirt. He's not a villain, he's just trying not to lose this girl also to the same guy like last time. I like her being a guardian angel to our kids, but I hope they leave it there - they have to fight their own battles too (literally, in Dong-man's case).

On Jooman: Please treat SeolHee better. She went through the ringer for you. Buy her anything she wants and marry that girl! You obviously care for her a whole deal..put a ring on it!
For DongMan: DongMan got off easy from Coach on the stunt he pulled. So he better train real hard and put TakSoo in his place. Good job on telling off HyeRan. Cut that psycho out of your life. Most importantly, fight for AeRa. Don't let that sneaky little MooBin get your woman.
AeRa: AeRa dont let HyeRan's poisonous words get to you. She is clueless on what would make DongMan happy. Be the person you are destines to be. Go for your dreams. And if you better communicate with DongMan since that man obvs care for you a lot!
Seolhee: I feel for SeolHee but I know she is far from perfect.. I know I have been hard on JooMan but she also has to grow a spine. Dont let people walk all over you. They will not treat you badly if you didnt give them permission to do so. Stand up for yourself. Get a little sass from AeRa and demand R-E-S-P-E-C-T from the people around you.
I love their landlady, Ms Hwang. She is looking out for her tenants. And that scene as she walked out of the department store AeRa used to work at...AeRa's boss should grovel at her feet and take her back. That shoplifter woman should do the same. But of course she should refuse since she is on to bigger and better job.
Moobin and Hyeran should just go far away.

I don't understand why Joo Man refuses to marry her. He made the whole "If I don't marry her, I'm not going to marry anybody"... but all I see from him is always words, but no actions? I don't know if I'm being too harsh on JM, but after every issue he just apologizes to SH and they make up, but their relationship doesn't get anywhere. SH is still meek and submissive, and gives in to everything, and JM is still not doing anything about their lack of marriage plans. Is it because he needs to carve out a career for himself? I feel like I can understand SH's feelings which makes me conflicted - I want to shake her and tell her to grow a spine, but I also want to hug her and tell her that it'll be ok.
Moobin is equal parts sweetheart and completely annoying for me. One moment he's all sweet, like when he bought her a massager because he noticed her feet hurt, and doing all sorts of things just to try to gain points, and the next moment he's being obnoxious by insisting on bringing it in for even when she said no, a million times. It's not cool to insist just so you can be "macho", MB!

Initially, I'm rooting for Seol-hee and Joo-man to get married, but after watching how his family treat Seol-hee, I'm not sure I want them to go through with marriage. Family is an important aspect to be considered when someone wants to get married. I'm actually not opposed to having Seol Hee and Joo Man break up. Joo Man really doesn't know how to communicate his frustration well. He clearly wants to do a little bit of switching places where he can be the person she can lean on. He is very bad at inspiring her butshe's got to do that inter work herself. I mean Seol Hee is a catch she's got loyalty, good work ethics, kind, beautiful and supportive. I think her current state is what happens to a lot of people in all kinds of relationships. A relationship where you put all your strength, money, energy and time into someone else who you dearly love and at the cost of ignoring/losing yourself. I've seen romantic relationships like this but also parent and child relationships. Seol Hee really needs to love and appreciate herself. I mean she's pretty great. Side note: It's so cute and awesome when she gets all fiesty and curses. I really what more of her sticking up for herself and maybe getting a job not in the same company as her guy.

I agree. Between watching this and Father is Strange, I feel heartbroken for those mothers who marry their daughters off to families that look down on their daughters. They raise their precious baby only for that baby to be spit on by relative strangers and society says that's okay because it's the traditional expectation for the daughter-in-laws to obey their mother-in-laws.
At least in the case of Father is Strange, the daughter Hye-young, is a rare, shrewd lawyer type.

As for Joo-man and Seol-hee, I agree she should be less sweet but what happened in this episode, that's not on her - that's on Joo-man's piece of @$&# family and also on Joo-man, for not standing up for her until that text from her mother pushed him to do it. He doesn't seem shocked by the idea that his family treated her badly, just angry after the fact - but he still let her go there alone? MOON Bin is getting on my nerves for being slightly clingy ... I just want to see DM and AR's romance flourish but I guess a bit of conflict here and there won't disturb it.
It's good to see relationship of the other couple, but I can't help but feel sorry for SH -- why doesn't JM just tell the intern he has a girlfriend ? I can't believe we finished out this week without knowing why JM and SH can't reveal they're dating. The only reason I could think of for hiding the relationship is that SH's job could be jeopardized (like they expect her to quit her job after she gets married, so they fire her and get someone young and single), but that doesn't seem like the reason.

I agree that he can tell her he has a girlfriend, even if he doesn't tell her who she is, but he is not leading her on. At all. Something similar happened to me in the past at work, and that's why I understand his actions. He is being nice to her and helping her because they are colleagues and she is new, it's perfectly normal. But he rejected every personal activity she asked him to do with her. She should get that he is not interested and not make him uncomfortable by insisting. Asking him once or even twice is fine, but insisting day after day and even kissing him AT WORK... His rejections are nice, that is, he doesn't tell her things like "fuck off, I'm not interested" but again, they are colleagues and they have to continue working together, so he can't be rude and she should get it and act accordingly.

Good point! The intern is doing things that would not be cool if the gender's were switched and thus is just plain not cool anytime from anyone. Plus she's making her interests super obviously to the whole office and that's just another level of weirdness for JM. I think since he just got that promotion maybe he didn't want to mention a girlfriend before or after because it would look like he wasn't dedicated to his work or because they would ask more questions and find out she worked there and that's against the rules? I don't know. It's what I made up in my mind to make sense out of why he just can't say, "I am currently seeing someone please let's be professional coworkers."

He can't really ignore someone in trouble and he honestly likes the attention. He may not show it much but he does seem to have a decent amount of ego. I do agree that he was polite and firm in his rejection from the get go but the intern is young, rich, beautiful, and has lived life knowing that she gets what she wants. He needs to be more insistent and firm about his rejections. Fuck polite. He knows her type. He should realize that polite isn't cutting it anymore.

The moment SeolHee stops behaving like a doormat, demands respect, and claims her man, he'll marry her. Because it's clear that her doormat behavior is what has stopped him from making a commitment.
Of course, he should have just admitted a long time ago that he had a girlfriend. Hiding her like that just reinforces SeolHee's "I'm not worthy" feelings. I'm glad he stood up to his family. Hopefully this is only the beginning.

So true! I understand SH's dream is to be a housewife, but even a housewife needs her own identity and self respect. It seems SH has been living in JM's shadow for so long, he as well as she can't recognize who she is/was. He needs to love her for herself, not because she supported him for 6 years...and she needs to re-find herself. She sacrificed so much for him, not caring about her clothes, working a job she has no interest in, yes maybe that could be seen as working towards her dream of becoming a housewife, supporting him so later she won't have to work but it's making her, them miserable. It is taking a toll on their relationship so definitely something needs to change. JM was wrong to compare her to YJ the intern at work, SH doesn't care to dress to impress because that's not her dream. He is seeing her as an employee because that is what she has become for him but that is not who she is. If he is now in a position where he can marry her and she can stop working then he should do so, else she needs to find someone else who can let her be what she wants to be. Yes his family is horrible, but when he starts to show more respect towards SH, his family will learn/have to respect her too. They are both sweet, but that does not solve their issues.

He complains about wanting her to change how she's been living now that he has a better position but how will she change if he isn't changing either? You can't shame, bully, nag, push, talk a person into change. Sigh. Straight to the point: JM needs to turn up the romance...sheesh. They've either done group activities, gone solo or canceled dates. SH needs to quit and do literally anything else.

Yes, JM and SH both need to turn up the romance as you put it. I think JM is also going through a transition in his work which is affecting his relationship with SH. It looks like he is doing well, his boss likes him, he is probably on his way to further promotion. But with higher status comes higher expectations and increased pressure, on a social level as well. From his workplace viewpoint yes, they think that someone like YJ fits him, unlike SH. Maybe they have come to a point where they need to figure out how they now "fit" or don't in each other's lives. Their lives have changed. Is she just a puppy to him or his woman?! Does he really not plan on getting married? Or does he want to wait until he too reaches his dream?! Is it fair to her then? Did they ever say what his dream was?? I don't seem to remember that the show ever mentioned his dream unlike for the other 3. I think his friends assume since he's doing well he's living his dream but is he doing what he really wants too? Is he doing it for SH? His family? Anyways, seems like they have a lot to resolve and in their case, will/can love conquer all?! But yes, either they need to keep the sparks going, or even love won't be able to save their relationship.
To me they are both likeable characters, I actually think he is nice, and she is so sweet, and they seem to really care about each other, but as a couple they have a lot of work to do, and item number 1 to me would be to publicly declare/establish that they are a couple! Maybe that is the source of their problem, hiding their relationship. Hiding their relationship is the same as hiding their true selves...it's repressive, as they can't be themselves for most of the day especially since they work together! They always have to be on guard, suppress their emotions. It's unhealthy! It's deceptive to the point where they do it to themselves too. They also need to break free! Just come out clean.

This episode had so much feels!!!
There're parts which were so hard to watch like Seol hee's being mistreated by Joo man's family and while Hye ran was being ridiculous in Ae ra's house.
The parts that were so satisfying to watch were when Dong man kinda KO-ed Tak su again and when Joo man stood up Seol hee at the party.
There was a part that I repeated several times though (the bra-less hug). Park seo joon nailed it and when his legs kinda were shaky at the end I lost it. LOL, these two.
"Do you like me?"
"Do I like you?"

All the other points aside, how hilarious was this episode?! My God this one had me in stitches on.multiple occasions: that bra-leaa boob hug, and the aftermath! Bahahahaha! And that epilogue! It was so cute to see that little Dong Man was as clueless as the grown up Ding Man today is Lol and that fainthing scene along with what came after in the hospital, were very funny scenes today.
Now the other awesome.parts: DM and AR just get each other, they are best frienda for.decades not for nothing! This again got showcased today through so many occasions, DM's hosptalisation scene, and then that miment when he sat outaide AR's door trying to convince her, were proof of that.
About JM and SH, I really hope the show tells us now why Jm is not willing to get married yet after 6 years with SH, otherwise it would be very hard to sympathaise with him anymore...here is a girl who was there with his through thick and thin, and yet now things look better than their student life days he is not considering marriage, in fact discouraging marriage by turning down SH every attempt at brining up.the talk. I do believe that scene where JM tells his family to f**k off was partly from.his own guilt and not only because he really lives SH.
Lastly, about the actors. How gooood is that cast?! Damn! We usually always talk about the OTP, PSJ and KJW are of couae perfectly cast and are awesime actors....but how good is AJH?! Wow what an actor!! He bribgs so many layers to the table for his character....by this time it would have been very difficult as a viewer to still like JM had it been played by any lesser actor!

Yeah, I'm with you on sympathizing less and less with Joo Man. Sure, yelling at his family was fine, but it left a bitter taste that he said he didn't know if he'd marry her. Why can't he marry her? On the other hand, there is a limit to how much he can stand up for Seol Hee. If she never learns to stand up for herself she will lose Joo Man's respect and love. I think it's already happening.

This! Those are my exact thoughts! I'm getting really annoyed here. Also, either you tell the intern that you are not available because you are taken or you break up with your girlfriend to pursue her. His indecisive acting will ultimately break two hearts.
I like intern girl. She is sweet and goes after what she wants. There is no fault in being persistent.
Getting really angry with Joo Man. If you don't want to marry Seol Hee, than break up already and don't string her along.
I also agree that Seol Hee needs to learn to stand up for herself, but at the same time she shouldn't change herself just so she wouldn't loose a guy. Does that make sense?

JooMan should discourage that intern. At this point it looks like he is looking for options. That is a definite jerk thing to do.
And that little scene in the photocopy machine when the intern reminds him of SeolHee...is like a little foreboding. Hopefully i am reading it wrong.

I think JM is always stern when rejecting the intern's advances, except perhaps at that time he said yes to work together on the weekend though later on he told her to invite other interns.
That scene where the helpless intern reminds him of Seol Hee though made me think that perhaps he could waver at that exact point, and I really really hope he isn't.

Honestly I don't think you're being fair. Whenever a girl has to lie and say that she's a lesbian, that she's married, etc. Just so that a guy persuing her leaves her alone, we see that as bad because he should just accept her no and leave her alone, so what is so different now? He has rejected her every epsiode, every time she makes advances he has firmly.and non vaguely shut her down. She even said that his rejction makes her wan to push more (like your typical annoying jerk) she know she is being rejected and still doesn't leave, so why is this his fault? And again, it isn't just him hiding their relationship, it's both of them (for whatever reason).

I think he was being really diplomatic with his refusals that is in till he lied about the Saturday request. The intern is definitely in the wrong. She's coming off a bad relationship and pushing herself on one of her coworkers.

June 8, 2017 at 12:29 AM
That came to my mind too – I make it a point not to say "I have a boyfriend" as a reason to reject someone, because if you have made clear that you are not interested, that should be enough – because, anyway, why would you want to be with someone who can't even respect you that little bit? Who will only respect you by the way of another person?
That said, I do think while Joo-man has turned her down repeatedly (and you have to be pretty stupid or desperate not to get that message), he hasn't said it in explicit words, "I'm not interesting in dating you and will only interact with you on a professional basis."
I'm also not convinced the intern would actually stop pursuing him if he said "I have a girlfriend". I think she already suspects that anyway and my prediction is she'll find out it's SH and then make her pursuit of Jooman a (nasty) competition of "I'm prettier/richer/younger/from a better family and more suited to you".
TM
June 8, 2017 at 4:14 AM
I don't think he was that firm in his rejections. Like you said she's persisting in trying to date her so even if she should accept his "no" without him having to elaborate, I think he should just tell the truth or just plainly say "I'm not interested in dating you, let's keep our relationship professional". He should be as firm as Dong Man was when he was rejecting his ex girlfriend.

I do not think JooMan realizes he is being a jerk though. He just likes the attention and being hero-worshipped by the intern i guess. That doesnt make it right though. So SeoLhee should stop being a doormat and tell JooMan off. Both of them are at fault for their current mess of a relationship.

Totally agree with you...SH needs to herself apart from being just the person who loves and lives for JM's love amd care. I mean, come on girl, you are awesome in yourself, just trying being that person. At this.point she only seems like a shadow of a person whose sole purpsoe is to live for JM. That's part of the rrason she is taken as granted. But she is more than that and we get a couple of glances that shows us this...remember the scene where she shouted for AR when HR came to look for DM? And in today's episode where she realises that her mother saw everything, and she sobs...that also shows that she gets the fact that she is being mistreated and that makes her feel rotten...these show that she has her sensibilities intact if dormant for the sake of her love for JM...she needs to up her game now...high time!

I agree that she's got spunk. She's even called JM out for lying before and has gotten mad at him before. I think she needs some time apart from JM - not only for her own sake but for the audience's sake as well. We mostly see her in the context of Joo Man, whom we get to see get hit on by inappropriate intern. She doesn't get to see those moments when the intern is being super pushy.

I wish that the characters of Moo-bin and especially Hye-ran are drawn with a little bit more complexity and their characters more deserving so their relationships with Dong-man and Ae-ra pose as real alternate choices. This would provide us viewers with more emotional conflicts and therefore making the eventual romantic confirmation between Dong-man and Ae-ra much more rewarding.
But then again I have such bias for Choi Woo-sik that no wonder I wish for the sweet-tempered Hogu back on the screen!

Well...that fight did not go as I expected (fortunately for DM). I expected a few broken ribs and a good scolding from coach. I have nothing to say about Dong Man and Ae-Ra except join in the general chorus of rapturous beanie *squeees* every time DM's brain is blown.
However, the Joo Man-Seol Hee relationship both depresses me and gets me thinking, because it's so real. There are RED FLAGS just everywhere: one of them is that you should NEVER pay for your boyfriend's rent. It's happened twice in this drama, once ending in tragi-comedy for Ae Ra. I understand how both Ae Ra and Seol Hee did it out of love, but after a while it becomes a burden to the guy (scoundrel or not) and it brings money into the love equation in a big way. I have ZERO respect now for Joo Man and his awful family. I knew Seol Hee sacrificed a lot for him but I had no idea she paid for his rent. He could have been roomies with DM y'know, or scrapped and saved for his own rent, or done multiple part-time jobs. What's the male equivalent of hard-working Candy?
What is really sad is that if JM and SH break up, their friendship group will break up too... but wait a minute, this is life for you. Fight My Way scores again for being too painfully realistic!

Yeah, this so true. I cannot really understand what made Joo Man accept Seol Hee paying his rent money. I personally could not even accept my boyfriend paying for me, it is a pride thing. I think Seol Hee did it because she is expecting that he would marry her in the future and all will be well. Frankly this really annoys me because you never know whether he will end up marrying him or not. Women like this really annoys me because she is so submissive and meek. Like seriously, learn to look after yourself and respect yourself, because if you don't, who will then. She needs to be a bit more ambitious with her life instead of always wanting to be a 'housewife'. She is so sweet and loving, just a genuinely a good human being, but she really needs have more substance in her and be a bit more headstrong.

I personally don't think there's anything wrong with wanting to be a housewife. When you put the term within quotation marks like that it makes it seem like it's an inferior or illegitimate position and I don't think it is at all. I do agree, however, that Seol Hee should spend more time reflecting and developing her own interests and desires outside of wanting to help the people she loves (whether or not that leads to an actual professional career). I think she may battle self-worth issues and rather than finding it annoying...I feel for her. It's a sad realization when you discover that someone so great hasn't learned how to truly love themselves. Last, from reading many comments, I feel that Seol Hee is getting a lot criticism. I think as a society, we have been trained to admire female protagonists who are spunky, outspoken, and tell-it-like-it-is. But, I think we often overlook the fact that being loving and gentle can often take just as much if not more strength. I'm not saying Seol Hee doesn't have flaws; I do think she needs to learn how to stand up for herself more, but I also don't want her to compromise her gentle and accommodating demeanor. They make up who she is and at the right dose, are admirable qualities to have.

Yessss! Great insight. I think housewife is a totally legitimate and rewarding role. I also think being a househusband is too. Maintaining a home and nurturing your family is tough work. Although it doesn't require losing all those amazing individual qualities you have. I see those self-worth issues as well but I also see other people dictating how she should feel, or wear or be when the things that concern them don't concern her. She has worries and concerns that are brushed off but she's has to address everyone else's? I actually think Seol Hee is spunky in her own way. She is gentle and soft spoke but damm if he didn't check up on JM's lies real quick with the male intern. She also stood up as back up for Ae-ra. Right on! Side Note: Was it not adorable when Ae-ra and Seol Hee were just commenting each other?

I think more people are either like SH or know people like SH. I think the frustration with her stems from frustration with parts of ourselves or with our loved ones. The aspiration is to be like Aera and our thoughts may align more with AR, but we often go the SH route with our actions - defaulting to being nice, polite, and accommodating like how society has taught young women to be. being nice, polite, and accommodating are worthy qualities and it takes a certain strength to continue being like that in the face of bullcrap. On the flip side, that means young women end up feeling like they aren't allow to be not nice and not polite when that niceness and politeness aren't well-deserved.

Hye Ran should just get lost. Don't play with people just because you can. Proud of Dong Man for finally putting his foot down.
Am so glad Joo Man defended Sul Hee in front of his family. Doesnt solve his not mentioning he's taken to Ye Jin (who just went and kissed him wow haha uhm), but it's a good step forward for their relationship.
Ae Ra's stress triggering her irritable bowel during her date with Moo Bin is funny to me (it shouldn't be as I can imagine that sort of pain and it led to hospitalization but her embarrassment tells me maybe we can laugh at this scene hahaha), like this is something that could happen to me?? Dates are uncomfortable most of the time lol esp when it's with a character like Moo Bin who butters you up and buys you nice things and therefore feels entitled
Childhood scene was adorable and hilarious, a friend that would fart to cover your fart and save you from embarrassment is a keeper HAHAHA FAVE #2

This episode really highlighted how incredibly gross Moo Bin is. He is such a classic Nice Guy it’s ridiculous. He barely knows Ae Ra yet is acting as if they're already in a long-term committed relationship. Constantly showing up at her job unexpectedly and inviting himself into her place (gift or not) when she repeatedly tells him no.
Also, the fact that he repeatedly mentions how he took off work just to see her and he got her the royal suite at a hospital and then proceeded to go on about 'winning points' and how he didn’t even book a room that fancy for his own mother. It's all gross manipulative behavior aimed at trying to make her feel obligated to spend time with him. She didn't ASK for any of those things and in fact, most people are incredibly uncomfortable when someone you barely know is trying to establish a relationship via extremely extravagant and costly gifts. It makes you feel like you owe them something and that’s horrible
And what really got me is after listing off all those ridiculous things that he did for her he had the audacity to ask "Why do I make you so uncomfortable?" Well gee buddy, IDK. He's icky all around and I don't like that the show is framing this as 'sweet' behavior and having Ae Ra fall for it because it really isn't sweet. It's manipulative.
I don't know why but the beginning of the episode with Ae Ra crying hysterically over Dong Man made me laugh so much I had to keep replaying it. Not because I think Dong Man's pain is funny but because her reaction was so dramatic. Especially, after he opened his eyes and you clearly know he was going to be okay, just banged up. I have no idea how they're going to continue playing Hye Ran's character but she’s incredibly useless to the plotline. With her first couple of appearances it was fine, but honestly, after the last episode, she really serves no point. It's desperate and pathetic to stick around someone who is clearly telling you that no, they don't want you around. Especially, someone who you have repeatedly hurt in the past. It made me very uncomfortable this episode to see her ignore Dong Man's dismissal at the hospital and act as though his 'no' was actually a 'yes' or an invitation to argue the point.
I know that every relationship is different and that what works for one couple won't work for another but I'm confused how Seol Hee can continue to be so submissive to in-laws who do not respect her at all and make all these sacrifices for Joo Man without taking care of her own self. When they were on the bus and she told Joo Man that she does all these things because she likes him it didn't make me smile it actually made me cringe. There's absolutely nothing wrong with supporting your significant other and going out of your way to make them happy, but to do it to the point where you’re continually neglecting yourself and allowing others, regardless if they're family or not, to disrespect, belittle and abuse you? That's...

That's just not healthy and I don't think it should be part of any relationship. Especially, one where there is mutual love and respect. My heart really broke in this episode for Seol Hee’s mom who clearly just wants her daughter to be happy and have a good life. To have to hear those people speak so nastily about her child and on top of that watch Seol Hee WILLINGLY choose to be pushed around like some work dog. I actually got teary on Mom’s behalf.
I'm really not surprised that the intern Ye Jin kissed Joo Man this episode. You could tell things were heading into that territory. And despite the fact that he clearly did not reciprocate the kiss I also won't be surprised if he keeps it from Seol Hee and she somehow finds out second-hand that it happened. Sigh.
I have to say I love the epilogs for this show. They are so cute in addition to giving us a look at how Dong Man and Ae Ra's relationship has developed up to this point where we are at with them in their journeys.

I think they continued on with both Hye-Ran and Moo-Bin's character only to bring our main couple to the same page. Both Ae-Ra and Dong-Man is too thick-headed and full of pride to recognize their own feeling for each other and hence, the presence of the annoying HR and MB
but should I point out how well these characters are played? These actors actually managed to be so seen as annoying even only by saying one word (or sentence in the case of MB).. they're awesome.

I want to know his true character.. because at face value, he looks like a "nice cute guy" but really, he's manipulative, self-serving and entitled when you go beyond his appearance
Regarding Seol-hee, yep I agree with you - I think her main objective in life is be a housewife. I loved this episode~ It was just an explosion of feels. I'm so glad that Dongman stood up against his ex, and made it clear to her that he disgusts her although the ex doesn't get that...
The expression that Dongman had when Aera asked whether he liked her, and when he saw Moobin kissing Aera was so painful to watch. I do hope he gets to realize his feelings soon. On the contrary, I would really like to see Aera's part of the story too. It's sad that she doesn't want to get confused so she rejects all his advances.
Also, I don't blame the intern for having feelings for Jooman (although that kiss was quite shocking) since Jooman didn't even make it clear to her that he has a girlfriend. Seolhee also needs some self-love too, she's so precious T_T
Lastly, Moobin has to stop guilt-tripping Aera all the time.

I feel like Joo Man has given the intern enough reason to stop pursuing him, though. Even though he hasn't told her he has a girlfriend, I feel like he shouldn't have to at this point. He's made it so clear that he's not interested in her by rejecting her invitations to hang out alone multiple times. She even realizes these are rejections, but she just keeps pursuing him. What if he had another reason for not being into her, like being gay or something? Would he need to out himself just so she'd leave him alone? Girl just needs to back off. She knows he's not interested, so she needs to take no for an answer.
Seolhee is precious D: I actually got misty eyed when her mom was listening in on those women and when she was reading her mom's texts later. She does need to stand up for herself more, but I hope she always stays this gentle and kind.

This episode got me laughing then crying then smiling again then in tears again!
I was annoyed by Joo Man because he can't say he has a gf but he made it all up for standing up for Sul Hee in front of his family. That kiss with the intern was annoying although really, it wasn't his fault (and I do understand if he hides the relationship IF it will be frowned upon in the company), but I'm sure it will bite him back in the ass in near future. I sense more angst coming and weirdly, I can't wait for it to come! I can even take a mini break up if it means JM can appreciate SH more, and ultimately what I really want is SH to appreciate herself more. I don't want SH to end up with other guy because from today's scene I'm sure noone can take care of her better than JM and someone like her can easily be taken for granted by jerks. But I won't reject some jealousy hijinks if it means SH will get more love from JM.
I also really appreciate the fact that the writer opt for the less-makjang way when SH's mom finds out - in other dramas, she would have created a havoc in the party to protect her daughter's dignity, or at least, send the angry text message to JM threatening to cut ties and all. But no, the mom took the more real and mature decision by sending a nice message. At the end, the result of her action is the same, i.e. JM showing up for SH (that scene got me crying) and SH finding out that it was her mom that took care of her (in tears, again).
Now, Dong Man and Ae Ra - it's the start of the blossoming relationship isn't it? That hug scene got me confused for a sec until we saw DM gave her his jacket, then I get why his legs suddenly becomes weak like jellies LOL.
Normally, kdramas like to put kisses between the leads in episode 8 (I swear I read this somewhere before) and I am crossing fingers for next week. This is probably the first couple after Oh Hae Young where I felt such intense chemistry between the leads.
Oh and the epilogue with naughty little Dong Man is hilarious.

I don't know, Joo Man hasn't redeemed himself in my eyes because
1) He knew SH would be treated that way but he didn't even intend to go until her mum texted him (granted, he couldn't stop her from going)
2) He even said "I don't know if I'll marry her", which negates any goodness in "But I won't marry anyone else". Dude. If he's not going to marry the woman who's willing to be a doormat for him and pay his rent/tuition fees, then he should let her go so they can both be free. What's the point of saying that he won't marry anyone else, if he can't even be certain that he will want to marry her? Am I making any sense?
3) That was just... it on the bus? He just... wiped her tears, and like... that was the end? No promises on working toward anything in the future, nothing?
4) I still don't know what's stopping him from telling the intern straight out. She hits on him in every scene that they are together. (While I want to say kudos to her for being so straightforward and brave, it annoys me too because... shouldn't you take a hint when the guy rejects every single suggestion you make?) It almost borders on emotional cheating for me.
Ok, I ranted too much about JM already, but it frustrates me that right now I dislike just about everybody in the show except our main leads and Coach. And maybe landlady.
Side note: I was annoyed at first that Mom went off silently but I'm so, so glad that she actually did something. She texted JM. It was very mature and it didn't spoil the birthday party for her potential in-laws.

Episode concentrates much on Seol Hee and Joo Man and nothing si written about them. This episode spoon-feed answers to those who dislike Joo-Man. I don't check comments but i did for ep 5 and thankfully there are some who are taking Joo-Man's character in +ve way.
Loadlord lady was wealthy but i didn't thought she would interested in branded products. She is the best Monterey tool there for the Hero team in times of trouble.
Ae-Ra and Dong Man are doing what hero/heroine must do.
Moo-Bin believes in stealth attack. Give no time to opponent.

Lee Elijah is a heck of an actress,at least here. I AM SO ANNOYED WITH HER AS HYE RAN AND HER "Oppa, I'll Call You" since her character 1st appeared.
Now that's out of the way, PSJ has truly made DM his character. DM might be annoying at times, but you just can't help but love him and root for him.

I might be wrong, but Moo-bin didn't give me the feeling he knew about Ae Ra quitting before she told him. Maybe I'm mistaken, because I know he went to her workplace the day she quit. I might have to watch again.
That guy is all kinds of sweet and impossible to hate, but everything he does is just... I cringe all the time because sweet as it is, it's never the right thing at the right time. I completly understand how Ae Ra feels unconfortable yet wavering at the same time.

He knew she'd quit, he ex-manager told him. That is one of the several things that irritates me about MB. He basically backed AR into a corner so she had to tell him that she quit and then made it seem like it was natural and made them closer. He is very manipulative!

Fart jokes usually make me cringe but it was executed really well in this episode! I laughed so hard i had to stop watching for a while, especially when Moo Bin said that one of Ae Ra's farts was quite long LOL One thing that i really appreciate with this drama is the actors have really great facial expressions that support the comedy flow of this show. I am actually the opposite, I like FMW a little bit more than SP. I just like how grounded to reality is everything in this drama, granted SP has different genre and dramatics are def needed for that kind of stories. Or perhaps I just adore this OTP a little more than the leads in SP, I like how natural their dialogue and skinship are. Whereas SP pulls me in the story more because of the mystery, but obviously not the say the OTP isn't solid because I love them too.
Let's just say I'm really really happy with my live watching schedules the past few weeks, new episodes of favorite dramas almost every day, yay!

I agree with you on FMW vs. SP. Right now with the back and forth in feelings for the SP OTP, the romance is feeling kind of stale to me. Liking how we are getting more into the murder plot more, though.
But, I will admit I'm biased. PSJ is the ONE!! :)

I understand that second leads/those having love interest in our main leads are kind of "necessary" for the story... for you would get bored if it were a straight up easy way going into romance... but men these here just hit my nerves and i get very annoyed at their "pettiness". Both moo-bin and Hye-ran annoyed me soo much this episode, i will start to consider dropping this drama for good.
Because... here i go: i predict it will become worse!!!!!!
And those are soooo stupid behaviors i cannot stand it... Hye-ran saying she has everything and now she wants Dong man as if he was an object... Moo-bin almost wanting to control Ae ra's time and attention!!!
If feels cartoonish and absurd. Adults dont (or shouldnt) behave like that!
This drama is not so bad... but it is not proving to be good either. I am sorry i will become a minority here...
I am watching because of Ae Ra and Dong-man... i also like the Coach, (although i have skipped almost all scenes in the gym... LOL) but that is all...i dont care about the Rest of the characters, not even Joo-man or seol-hee, except when they are with Ae ra or Dong-man...
I wish the drama would improve in its side stories...
We will see...

Unfortunately, people like MB and HR do exist in the real world. And there are people with insecurities like AR and DM that get taken in by them. I agree, I'm ready to move on. I think MB will be out soon, but HR will be around for a while, but I'm guessing less. Unless she plans to follow DM around on the MMA circuit, which is where he is most likely headed.

People like MB or HR exist in the reality, hum.... that is true for sure. But do we need to watch and hear them saying their silly lines? LOL! ?
I am sorry for my rant, but I really can't stand stupid dialogs and characters so pathetic it is painful to watch. Anyway.... at least in dramaland, for that we always have the fast forward option, and then just read the recap! LOL??
Sadly in real life we don't have a way to avoid such people without seeming to be arrogant or jerks. ?

DM finally told Hye-Ran to get lost and I couldn't be happier. He definitely needs to get rid of her out of his life once and for all. I was so upset for Ae Ra when Hye-Ran told her she was pathetic and using friendship to hang around DM. Awwwwoo, I want to give her a roundhouse kick too.
I rewatched the brainless hug multiple times. PSJ'sreactions are gold. The writer has done a good job of portraying the friendship and can't wait for the romance.
Sul Hee is really getting on my nerves. I can never understand doormat girlfriends. SH and JM are way too comfortable in their relationship and I think it is time for a breakup for now to get their senses in order. Unfortunately, she loves him too much to ever do that right now. Yes, he stood up for her but then he even said he doesn't know if he will marry her? That was all I could remember after that scene and I felt so mad that Sul Hee was too happy to notice. Wake up already, just because you made sacrifices in the past doesn't entitle you to happy ending. What each person needs in a partner may change as they get into different life situations and hopefully the person you are with evolves with you. I am so frustrated with both of them, they need to communicate honestly.

I agree with everyone's comments so far so I won't repeat them.
But I will say the scene where DM realized AR wasn't wearing a bra was priceless and I had to replay it a few times to make sure I got it. OMG - that was so funny!
for some reason I thought AR would get behind DM after that fight and become his manager and really make him work hard to train and do the fight RIGHT.
Maybe that will come - I think it would be cool if she turned around and decided if he's going to get in the ring - he'd better be prepared!
anyway - this show is just great. I rushed home after working my second job last night so I could sit and watch it straight away. Thanks for the FAST FAST FAST recaps @Lollypip!!

Judging from the first episode, I conclude the reason Moo-Bin is so assertive and straight forward is due to how the girl he liked reacted to his meek behavior in high school, causing him to lose to Dong-Man in that sense. So I imagine he's taken a new position in life where he just goes for what he wants so there's no missed opportunities.
But yes, that leads him to be a problematic nice guy.

-Just started this drama yesterday and I'm loving it. What a gem this show is. So glad the ratings are increasing too.
-Ex-gf is really shameless and despicable. I hate her! She's worse than the ex-gf in "Suspicious Partner". lol.
-Moo Bin is just clingy (??) and creepy. I have a feeling that he might be controlling. His character reminds me of my sister's crush. She felt suffocating despite them not dating due to his behavior. So, maybe Ae Ra might feel suffocating too? I would too if the guy you barely knows keep on showing up to you at home and workplace. Dude gotta know there is a thing call 'personal space' and doing things like this can be a turn off.
-The ramen convenience scene is hilarious. Love that when Ae Ra said "It went through", Dong Man thought she meant her period. This is what happens when you grow up with girl(s). My brother knows. Lol.
-I really love the friendship between Dong Man and Ae Ra. Love that they are each other's support and cheerleaders. Love that they both believe in each other's dreams.
-I also love that we also have Joo-man and Seol-hee's side story. I'm also interested in their love story.

I laughed so hard at the epilogue that I had tears in my eyes, it was good to think other Beanies might be doing the same! On the subject of farts, I have IBS and was glad the docs noted that AR's fainting due to pain of holding in farts would be extremely rare ?. I can't imagine such a spell that could keep her unconscious long enough to get to a hospital and be (un)comfortably checked into the Royal Suite, but I sometimes pay overly close attention to detail. ?
Another couple of details, why would Seol Hee be working like a dog at a party that was held in a restaurant?
And, not to be indelicate, but I thought DM was actually shaking out his leg because he felt his reaction to AR's braless hug umm, between his legs ?

It was all so un-dramatic that I laughed at myself for thinking she might have had appendicitis earlier on, when she first clutched her right side (I was just waiting for the tell-tale fever lol). I was dying when Dong Man hugged Ae Ra and the awkwardness that ensued when he realized she was not wearing a bra! Dong Man and Joo Man both deserve fist pumps for their little speeches - Dong Man for telling off his evil ex-gf, and Joo Man for telling off his in-laws and making it clear that if he isn't going to marry her, he isn't going to marry anyone. It kind of redeemed the fact that he let pink intern kiss him and STILL did not mention that he had a gf... what the heck show! At least make it clear to us viewers WHY he can't/doesn't say anything about his dating life.
I'm glad that Dong Man caught Ae Ra and Moo Bin kissing because hopefully it'll light a fire under his butt and make him realize that maybe there is something to those feelings he gets every time he gets physically close to Ae Ra!
Moo Bin is annoying me now. He is so needy and doesn't know when to stop. I know it's a double standard, but this kind of stuff is only cute when the girl likes you back.
The epilogue reminded me of something similar that my best friend turned husband did for me while we were dating! For the longest time I refused to fart in front of him... but one day we were at home watching a movie with him and his friends when I couldn't hold it in and let out a small, tiny but DEADLY one. It smelled so bad that all his friends were like, "what is that smell??"... and he immediately spoke up for me and said it was him! He took the fall for me. LOL, that incident is still a secret between me and him. His friends never knew any better.

Moo-bin and his presence in the drama is really interesting and enjoyable for me. He's got characteristics of the cliche male lead in kdramaland. He's got the face, the profession, the money, and most importantly the cliched romantic gestures (planning a full course date, buying expensive surprise gifts etc). In other kdramalands these male lead gestures and behaviours might be seen more positively and swoon-worthy. However when he does these things with Ae-ra, we see very clearly how ill-fitting he is in her world. This consequently emphasises how well Dong-man and Ae-ra fit into each other's and as an avid fan of their current and future relationship... this makes me very pleased.

I honestly could not stop bawling this episode when I saw Sul Hee's mother's scene -- the whole process from coming back, clearing her trash and being so fed up with the family treating her daughter like that to rewriting that whole message; and then the scene where she asks her husband whether they should open a restaurant or not. That just completely broke my heart.
Everytime I watch Fight My Way it seems I always need to be ready for how unfair the world will be to them and there's always a heart ache, but I'm so glad these 4 buddies are going strong. I think the idea that he's *actually* taking advantage of her weak moments is a bit stronger of a statement than what's really happening. Hehe, now that I think of it, an alternate-universe version of this drama would be... The sweet Beta lead who gets pushed around at school loses his crush to the jock, but survives the heartbreak and plows through med school. He comes back years later more assertive, with improved hair, and falls for a sassy girl. He pursues her while still being hopelessly nerdy, only to find the same jock now hanging around the sassy girl. His cringeworthy attempts at dating with the help of a computer go on for a few episodes, until he saves the girl from a bad seizure and takes her to the hospital, where she seems to be warming up to him so he kisses her out of impulse. Then the jock walks in... *cue dramatic music* To.Be.Continued.

While I'd love to vote for the nerd he better realize he's being a creep soon. I mean his bumbling attempts with the internet are kindof cute (like the 'sexy reversal' attempt) but still.
His behaviour can be interpreted as showing concern, but if he really paid attention to her he'd realize she isn't as enthusiastic as he is and he should back the eff off and take it slow. He should learn to get to know and understand Aera better, and he should also NOT be guilt-tripping her when she's in the hospital.
The thing that truly put me off is him making her having abdominal pain and embarassing things like gas, but then he has the nerve to make all of that stuff all about HIM, asking her why she's so stressed around him? Guilt-tripping her with all the effort he's been putting in. You can't FORCE someone to feel comfortable around you, that's not how it works.
And he's just making her feel even worse about things talking to her like that when she's clearly not feeling well.
I feel bad for him, but dammit he needs to learn to give the lady some space.

I don’t think she can handle a guy who is that nice to her because she needs a guy who is a bit rough on the edges (cough DONG-MAN cough). I really like Moo-Bin but he can get too protective and in your face lol
That STUPID ex ohmygod. I can’t deal with her and her “worry”. She irks me sooo much ?? That scene at the hospital when Dong-Man stood up for himself, I was so glad he said that. I just want that woman out of both of their lives NOW. The ways she treats Ae-Ra just makes me what to slap her to her senses. “It’s better to be a crazy bit**, than a pitiful bit**”?? IT WHAT WORLD? It’s better to be a nice bit**, than a Hye-Ran. Also what Dong-Man said outside their houses. YESYESYESYESYESYES!
If Joon-Man cheats, I NEED Dong-Man to beat him up. But, why is Ye-Jin being so annoying gosh. Joo-Man needs to tell her to back off. I don’t get why those words can’t leave his mouth. But he redeemed himself so much in his speech to his family. That’s exactly what I wanted to hear from him and I got it.
I love the friendship between Ae-Ra and Seol-Hee so much omg like that whole sequence when they’re comparing themselves to dogs and cats ❤️❤️I LOVE AE-RA AND DONG-MAN SO MUCH OMGGGG Their cute and awkward moments are something to live for ?? Ae-Ra the baboon?? I LOVE IT
Now a few of my ideas of what needs to happen NOW:
I need Ae-Ra and Dong-Man as a couple NOW
Ae-Ra needs to understand Dong-Man’s feelings NOW
They both need to throw that ex out NOW
Dong-Man needs to defeat Tak-Su NOW
Thanks for the recap!
