House-poor Lee Min-ki finds house-hunting Jung So-min in This Life Is Our First

Oh man, these teasers are literally the story of my life right now. Character teasers have just been released for tvN’s upcoming cohabitation drama This Life Is Our First, starring Jung So-min (Father Is Strange) and Lee Min-ki (Shoot Me in the Heart), playing two millennials struggling to find their own space amidst the rising costs of urban living.

In the first teaser, Jung So-min goes on the search for an apartment, and she starts out pointing to a high-rise building in a nice neighborhood and gasps at the exorbitant amount. Next she goes to a humbler neighborhood, but it’s still too much above her price range, so she picks a house waaay up in the mountains, but is told that it’s tiny and has no access to public transportation.

The narrator mockingly says that even a dog house costs 200,000 won these days, and she sighs despondently that her house doesn’t exist in this lifetime. She trudges around until a house rent flyer lands at her feet, and she looks up to see a man in a trench coat walking toward her.

The second teaser features Lee Min-ki as he introduces himself and his house. He confidently begins by saying, “Becoming a house owner in this lifetime—even though the start was humble…” But then a bank teller interrupts him, “Sir, you still have 10 years until you own the living room,” and the chyron above his head says that he so far only owns the entryway. Then he tries to enjoy coffee in his kitchen, but more bank tellers appear reminding him that it’ll be 15 years until he owns the kitchen. He tries to relax in front of his TV, and again bank tellers crowd around him and one whispers the reminder: 10 more years.

The thought of his ever-present mortgage weighs on his mind, when suddenly a light bulb goes off. He realizes that if he rents out the small front room, he’ll be able to pay back the bank in 13 years instead of 30. He quickly rushes out the door in a trench coat with rent flyers in hand. As he’s pasting up flyers, one falls at Jung So-min’s feet, and he smiles as he walks up to her.

I completely understand their struggles, and it also conveniently provides a good motivator for them to become roommates. I already want to know how their story plays out, partially because I want to see Lee Min-ki and Jung So-min’s cute romantic hijinks, but also because I’m hoping that the drama will share a relatable perspective on housing and the struggles that we all face with it.

tvN’s Monday-Tuesday drama This Life Is Our First will begin airing on October 9.

They look so cute together but I am not yet ready to move on from Joong-hee and Min-young!

Also, my natural reaction for a strange man in a trench coat passing out flyers on the street looking for a roommate would be RUUUUUUNNNN!! ?‍♀️?‍♀️?‍♀️?‍♀️?‍♀️?‍♀️

I agree, for that reason alone I am going to have to pass on this drama for now. I might marathon it at a later date or next year, but for now, I can't pick it up, my heart is not ready.

I wonder what made Lee Min Ki return to dramaland? 10 years since his last drama project, that's a long time... I dont count SUFBB since that was only a guest role.

Minus the two (2) years of mandatory military service. He was up for Tomorrow With You but because of that scandal, things didn't work out--no complaints that he didn't get that. Can't speak for before 2014 though.

Also, although it's not entirely about this topic... I would like to see a drama with the three LEE's of "my generation" Lee Minho (80's) Lee Hong Ki (FT Isl) and Lee Min Ki. That'd be a drama.

I just recently fell in love with Lee Min Ki because of Spellbound and I've loved Jung So Min since Playful Kiss. It is one of the first dramas I watched, it's also a guilty pleasure. I'm so excited about this drama but I wondering where I'll be able to watch it.

I recently fell in love with Lee Min-ki via Dal-ja's Spring. I'm ecstatic to see him in something contemporary. He has this quirk about him that I absolutely love.

It was a two second scene but I just thought it was so out of place with the rest of it. It's not really appropriate to post (or it might be just me lol) but if I remember the context correctly, it's when he asks the girl what she really wants after they decide to date.

OMG!!! I'm so going through this. Except. My house is completely full. And those in it. Can't pay me a dime. "Sigh." Lol. I can't wait to see what they do with this concept. It really seems original. I hope they don't skimp out of the romance element though. There seems to be so much potential with that. :) THough funny is also good. Just as long as it's not overdone... (I'm still suffering from Wild Romance.)

Lee Min Ki! Seeing his face in the news section made me so happy! ^^ But I don't like what they've done to his eyebrows in this one. :/ Am not familiar with Jung So Min.

Looking forward to this one - housing is expensive. I agree.

I bet the house will burn down at some point. Wouldn't be a K-drama without the most dramatic possible moment.

AHAHAHA!!! I have faith that anyone using "Destiny" as the musical cue when the lead couple meets has a compatible view of the right humour levels in a romantic comedy. I can't wait :D
