First sleepy couple stills for SBS’s While You Were Sleeping

Aw, don’t they look cozy. Cameras began rolling ages ago on the pre-produced drama While You Were Sleeping, but the promo rounds have only just begun, and the first official stills of Lee Jong-seok (W–Two Worlds) and Suzy (Uncontrollably Fond) have finally been released. They’re both reuniting with writer Park Hye-ryun (Pinocchio, I Hear Your Voice, Dream High) for a new romance that mixes supernatural and legal elements, hopefully to great effect a la I Hear Your Voice.

Suzy plays a woman who can see the future in her dreams—specifically, unfortunate things that are about to happen to other people—and Lee Jong-seok is a prosecutor who will fight to prevent her premonitions from becoming reality. I’m kind of hoping that the two characters don’t know each other in the bus scene that’s pictured, since it would make for a sweet meet-cute.

Stills from the script reading have also been released, featuring supporting leads Lee Sang-yub (This Week, My Wife Will Have an Affair) as a prosecutor-turned-lawyer, and Go Sung-hee (My Beautiful Bride) as Lee Jong-seok’s colleague at the prosecutor’s office. Other supporting cast members include Jung Hae-in (The Lonely Shining Goblin), Park Jin-ju (Reunited Worlds), and Shin Jae-ha (Wanted) as Lee Jong-seok’s little brother. PD Oh Choong-hwan of Doctors is at the helm.

I’m keen to learn more about the plot, since the one-line description for the show hasn’t changed since early casting reports way back in last November. That’s almost a year of waiting! I feel like I should get a gold star for being this patient, but I suppose a good drama would be the best reward. Everyone cross all fingers and toes that it’ll be worth the wait!

While You Were Sleeping follows Reunited Worlds on Wednesdays and Thursdays beginning in late September.

Fingers crossed it'll be good! It's been a bit of a dry spell in dramaland for me recently.

It'd be cute if they didn't know each other on the bus... but only in dramaland. IRL I imagine most people would be trying to dodge the sleepy person's head LOL. Though if he looked like Lee Jong Suk... maybe I wouldn't mind... heh.

I guess it is fitting to include a picture of someone sleeping since the Drama is named While You Were Sleeping. If my understanding of Korea only comes from watching dramas, I will easily assume that the Korean population overall is very very tired. It is almost impossible to watch a drama without someone falling asleep anytime and anywhere! Hair stroking, gentle padding, and blanket covering are some of the expected acts by the observer.

The same here! Try father is strange. I'm is 3rd episode and It seems good.

I'm glad I'm not alone. I sadly admit to being a very picky watcher, but I haven't really enjoyed a single drama since the Kill Me Heal Me days. Nothing lives up to that :( This drama needs to break the spell!
But - really? Do most people dodge a stranger's head? I don't use public transportation in my home country, but I've lived in Japan for four months, taking trains many times a day, and I never dodged anyone's head/seen anyone doing this. I feel sorry for all the tired people who can't help falling asleep, especially in the early morning hours. Sometimes I had two people sleeping on both of my shoulders, lol.

That first still reminds me of UF last scene of Kim Woo-bin and Suzy? and also the bus scene in their high school flashback.

Definitely gonna watch it. While You Were Sleeping definitely going to beat the Hospital Ship and Manhole ratings to a pulp.

I think you'll get your wish easily. Hospital Ship debuted at 6% and Manhole's has yet to break 4% nationally. Unless, something goes terribly wrong this drama should do well on name power alone.

And God Lord, with Suzy in this, I fear this might be going in the same direction :(

I don't really care about the female leads actually nor the plot as much as what he can offer on screen acting-wise. When I watch his drama or movie, I am merely focused on how he delivers his art in acting and I can say he has grown a lot through the years as an actor.

I have almost forgotten about this drama's existence if I hadn't saw a pic of their script reading few days before. lol.
It's still early to say if this drama gonna beat Hospital Ship later, but seems like SBS has two drama which have the rating's winner possibility in their weekdays' slot in this month. I'm not hyped of this drama since I'm not a fan of main actors, but as usual will at least check first two epi as I do liked Park Hye-ryun's drama before.

Hoping this is a good rebound after W, which was a huge disappointment. The cast looks pretty good too, aside from Go Sung-hee who's the one major weak link. I actually haven't seen Suzy in anything now that I think about it. High expectations for this one anyway.

My expectations are mostly due to the writer. It's not like any of these actors are powerhouses like Jo Seung-woo or someone of his calibre.

This writer was behind I Hear Your Voice and Pinocchio, which were projects I enjoyed. And the lead actor seems to work well with her. As long the rest of the actors aren't glaringly terrible, it should be fine.

Oh I loved "W" as I felt it was unique and definitely entertaining. Even the pairing of the two main actors, which seemed odd in the beginning, turned out to be a good match later. While I really like Lee Jong Suk in most of his dramas, I am not sure he has the weight to counterbalance the female lead, who never fails to disappoint (and irritate) me. I feel certain the show will be well received because of the fans of the main actors/actresses. Sometimes though, such as with "Heirs," popularity doesn't equal quality. I consider success to be when the drama is a work of art... though I think in reality, "success" is the when the drama makes big bucks.

I have the exact feelings you do - I loved "W", I like LJS but only when the rest of the cast is good, and every time I'm reminded that Suzy is involved in this my heart sinks.

I would very much like to be proven wrong but I don't think LJS + Suzy is going to work. He works best in scenes where he's building energy back and forth with someone else, and she's a charisma black hole in dramas, so I foresee that this is going to feel really disjointed - a lot of his pitching energy to her and it dissolving as soon as it hits her orbit, and then he gets nothing back.

Again, I hope I'm wrong. But I'm probably not going to even tune into this show until I've seen the first 4 or 5 recaps and have a feel for whether this is popular or actual quality. "Uncontrollably Fond" was painful, watching Woo Bin doing his utmost and basically getting hung out to dry. Shudder.

Great description Miranda, but I'm hoping that since her role is more passive here and his role is more active (from the synopsis), that it will work out fine as he will be the one doing the dynamic acting. I just hope that she will be decent and not distracting. However I still wonder what product this would've been if a solidly good actress like say "Park Bo Young" had been the lead? or even Lee Yubi

I loved W to pieces. Loved the unique storyline, loved all of the actors, loved the chemistry between the OTP. I didn't love UF--the genre of story is just not one I gravitate towards (personal taste), plus I felt like it was billed as a romance but it was actually a revenge story. By the time I figure that out, the drama was basically over, and I felt a little disillusioned by it. Suzy's role was written to be a bit off the rails, so it's hard for me to judge her acting. But in general, I do hate it when one actor is extremely good and the scene falls flat because the rest aren't carrying their weight, so I really hope that everyone is well cast and lives up to their roles. In any case, I think we can at least trust that this drama will have an actual plot, going by the writer's previous ones.

On the contrary, I absolutely loved W. If this drama is anything near W, I'll be delighted. Such a wild, awesome ride, 2016 was great really :D
Hope it doesn't disappoint like Uncontrollably Fond, though that was a sappy melo, and this seems like a fantasy romance.

Finally! This was such a frustrating wait!
I wish it had the same PD as Pinocchio and IHYV. I love that PD-writer combo. Their shows are always so effortlessly fun and engaging.
I recently found out Go Ho's Starry Night was helmed by this PD and everything clicked immediately. I just love his style.
Let's hope this one equally fun!

This is my most awaited drama this year. I do not want to have high expectations but I kind of do.. I love both Lee Jong Suk and Park Hye Ryun, one of my favourite writers (I have no idea about Suzy, probably a good thing, I still have an open mind). I absolutely loved I hear your voice and I enjoyed Pinocchio. I have stalked this drama for a while and I am desperate to review so...may it come quickly

Ohh the plot seems really interesting and I'm liking the lineup of supporting leads and well as Lee Jong Suk. My only issue at the moment is Suzy....i honestly wish they picked another actress for the role. I haven't liked her in a single drama I've seen her in and her acting just makes me cringe or seriously irritated. But I'm going to stay positive and hopefully she improves with this drama...

I'm gonna watch this because

1. I can't wait to see Kim So Hyun redeem herself from the atrocity of a drama that is Ruler. I seriously want to erase that drama in my head so I'm hoping that Park Hyeryun will do the magic.
2. I actually think the plot is interesting.

I still haven't found my drama crack this year so I'm praying this is gonna be it.

Ummm...this is my personal opinion so don't hate me, but disagree with girlfriday's "hopefully to great effect a la I Hear Your Voice." I know that drama was super popular but I don't want anything similar to that again, one is enough (I didn't hate the drama, there was just too much angst & injustice for me to handle)

But, I'm definitely looking forward to this drama cuz LJS you know... :-P

Honestly, I find LJS’s acting so-so and repetitive. He’s not versatile and certainly not daesang worthy, contrary to what many of his fans and people on here think. His expression keep looking same as in every single drama he has been. I don’t care much for Suzy but she seems to have (based on the trailer) improved a little (?), but maybe she couldn’t get any worse.

"His expression keep looking same as in every single drama he has been."
That's a big lie, in Doctor Stranger itself he had such a range of emotions that Song kang Ho texted him and said how impressed he was. In W he was a 2D character, but even then his subtle expressions was good
Also it isn't ONLY his fans or beanies, the Daesang has always been more of a popularity contest. BUT LJS is the youngest winner of the prestigious Grimae, a critics given award, they too must have liked his acting :)

Just my personal opinion. Of course fans are allowed to think that their fave is great. I actually liked LJS in IHYV and School 2013. He was good in Pinocchio too, even though I couldn’t connect with his character as much ( I liked his chemistry and dynamics with In-ha and Jae-myung) but he always plays genius with troubled background characters so he appears too repetitive. He’s not bad per se but not as excellent-excellent as I see the comments here...
