Team Dramabeans: What we’re watching

So, what are we all watching this week?

What kept you reaching for more (or agonizing when there was no more), and what made you want to throw your remote through the screen? Time to weigh in…

javabeans

Age of Youth 2: The girls are back, and the show is funnier than ever! (The whole driving sequence had me in stitches.) This season looks visually crisper and more vivid, which is really welcome; I still kind of hate the music direction in this show, but I suppose it wouldn’t feel like Age of Youth to change the style now. Surprisingly, I didn’t find the Eun-jae replacement jarring, since the new actress has the same vibe to the character. Most of all, I like that the girls’ friendships still have that little realistic bite to them—it feels true to life to see them snap and get peevish for the silliest things, though we know they’re rock-solid at the core. I’ll miss Kang unni, but am looking forward to the new girl.

Father Is Strange: I was utterly tickled when Joong-hee and Mi-young’s relationship got accidentally outed (that got rewatched a dozen times), and doubly tickled at how much the family enjoyed ribbing him about it afterward. Gah, I just love this family. I have to say, I have a pretty cynical view of marriage, but more than any romantic OTP it’s Mom and Dad’s relationship that makes me see the appeal of a loving, committed partnership that goes well past the first romantic flutters.

Rescue Me: Just when you think this show is as dark as it’s going to get, they throw in some more horrors to make Sang-mi’s life even more hellish. It’s remarkable to have a character who is literally a victim the whole way through who doesn’t feel like she has victim complex, if we can make that distinction. I find myself admiring her resilience given her situation, and was on the edge of my seat just waiting for the moment when she’d ask Taec to rescue her. It must be because Sang-mi’s victimization doesn’t make her a weak character; rather, the drama clearly shows that she’s strong despite being put into the victim position, and it makes me pull for her so hard.

Criminal Minds: I think I’ve pinpointed what’s probably my biggest pet peeve about this show: All of the theories are always right. They’re super-detailed and sometimes even presumptuous, but the cases tend to bear out exactly like the profilers see them, with hardly any deviations. We go from A, to B, to C, to D, case closed. Instead of making the profilers seem brilliantly expert at their jobs, it makes the plots seem really obvious and straightforward.

Bride of the Water God 2017: This show took a really intriguing premise and played it out in the most boring way, with the least charismatic combination of actors. I have liked every main actor in other projects, but somehow you put them together and they just fall flat. Better luck next time, guys.

girlfriday

School 2017: In what high school on this planet would you ever meet a boy like this, who chooses to fight for your dream over keeping his pride, who knows your heart better than you do, and finds a way to turn every situation into a romantic declaration? When he saved every draft of Eun-ho’s drawings that she’d thrown away and painstakingly copied them to keep her webtoon alive, I was so moved. You deserve every pixel of that heart emoticon she gave you in return!

Age of Youth 2: That was a great premiere episode, and the transition between seasons was pretty seamless. I missed these girls and their wacky adventures. I was so heartbroken at the housemates’ first real separation though. Does Kang Unni really have to go? Say it ain’t so!

Live Up to Your Name: It’s kind of nice to have the shoe on the other foot, with Kim Ah-joong flailing around in Joseon and Kim Nam-gil getting his turn to be the respected doctor in his element. The back-and-forth time travel was a good move, though I’m really just here for Kim Nam-gil’s comedy, which is golden.

Bride of the Water God 2017: If we were only going to introduce the life-and-death stakes in Episode 15 and then solve them with a convenient magical twist in Episode 16, what was the point of the other fourteen episodes? It was just too late to make me care about anyone’s fate. Chemistry would’ve made up for a lot in a show like this; too bad it had none.

Rescue Me: Wow, the buildup to Dad’s fanaticism and Sang-mi’s breakdown was riveting—so well done and so believably terrifying. I don’t know how she’s not catatonic after all of that. I’m just going to sit here biting my nails until Dong-chul starts bustin’ some heads and saves the day. Please hurry!

Falsify: I’m liking Eom Ji-won’s character more and more. She seems like a real prosecutor, stumbling through her job and taking risks and making mistakes. She’s tough, but she’s not unbreakable, and after she was attacked by the killer, I thought her reaction was so perfect—anger at her own vulnerability, and pride in her job making her push past her fear.

Reunited Worlds: In this drama, everything just falls conveniently from the sky, totally out of the blue, with no preamble and no attempt to make it organic. Rich granny with a hotel falls from the sky. Food truck falls from the sky. Open art competition falls from the sky. Famous-on-the-internet guy with tons of followers falls from the sky. Hell, even Yeo Jin-gu fell from the sky!

HeadsNo2

Rescue Me: The tension! The stakes! Every time Sang-mi tries to escape, my heart jumps into my throat with dread, because you know the punishment will just be worse if/when she fails. All my hope hinges on her not losing her will to survive, even though I wasn’t expecting the show to kill off one of her few remaining reasons to live. Rescue Me is relentlessly dark in a way I wouldn’t have expected from a K-drama—it’s super artfully done, with more of a Chungmuro feel than a drama feel, but I like that OCN is willing to go there and let the show be something truly unique. I’m also struggling to remember the last time I’ve feared a villain as much as I fear Jo Jae-yoon’s sinister congregate. He oozes bad intentions from every pore, and maybe he’s so terrifying because he’s a person that could exist anywhere at any time, but it’s more than just him being bad: He’s unnervingly, all-too-believably evil.

Falsify: I get the distinct feeling that this show’s newbie writer feels really strongly about the subject matter and researched it thoroughly, since she loves for the characters to say lots of words and uncover lots of conspiracies. It’s just that I’m, well, bored.

Live Up to Your Name: I was pleasantly surprised by the time travel twist that happened in the show’s second week, since I thought all the fish-out-of-water hijinks would be saved for the Joseon doctor traveling to modern-day Seoul. I can see why we wouldn’t want to stay too long with the modern-day Seoul doctor time-traveling to Joseon, because Faith and Dr. Jin happened, but at least there’s the added twist that she’s not the only time-traveler around, so there’s someone to show her the ropes. It puts them both on a more even playing field, even if I can’t find myself really falling in love with either lead yet. Im can be entertaining in a buffoonish way and smart beyond his years, but Yeon-kyung, even for traveling to the past, remains surprisingly impassive about whatever supernatural forces are going on in her life.

The King Loves: I thought the bad editing was really going to end up tanking this show, so I’m wondering if they just ran out of time to mess with it as the show progressed. We’re not getting weird cuts to scenes that don’t matter anymore, and the characters are starting to take shape. I still can’t quite figure out if we’re supposed to like Won or be on board with his epic love, because I’m all aboard the Rin/San ship.

Manhole: It’s so stupid that it’s fun, and it embraces that silliness wholeheartedly. It knows what it is and doesn’t aspire to be anything more than a manic diversion, which I have to respect it for.

New Journey to the West: Eun Ji-won has always been my favorite 1N2D member because of his crafty ways of outsmarting everyone, so it was extra hilarious to see him lose every game on the last day. I’m sad another season is ending and that the next season won’t have Kyuhyun, but I’m betting Na PD will be able to snag Lee Seung-gi once he’s released from the army, so that will be a happy reunion to anticipate.

Manhole: The zany “back to the future” antics are still hilarious and I don’t think I’ll ever tire of watching Jaejoong run frantically around—which is probably a good thing, since that’s about 70 percent of each episode (well, except for maybe when he was in a coma). I love the rest of the cast, especially since they also get to play different roles when Pil changes the future (which makes me think filming must be tons of fun for everyone). I’m totally falling for the dependable Jin-sook and wish she could have a magic manhole of her own, just so she could know what would have happened if she ever admitted she liked Pil. Not that I think she’d be able to make him stop obsessing about Soo-jin or change his manic-pixie-nightmare-boy ways, but at least she’d have given it a shot.

awcoconuts

Forest of Secrets: Mind. Blown. Life got in the way and I just started (and finished!) this drama this past week, but I loved everything about it: the stellar performances, the assured directing, and most of all the riveting story. Every minute counted in the episodes, and I got lost deep in the forest and secretly hoped I’d never find my way out. I’m in complete agreement with the praise heaped by HeadsNo2 and chickachunga, and I’ve already decided that nothing is going to top this show for me in 2017.

The King Loves: Not gonna lie. I’m watching this just for the Rin and So-ah love line. I lost my interest in Im Shi-wan’s battle for the throne a long time ago. This is probably not the best way to watch, but I fast-forward through everything until I see Hong Jong-hyun’s face onscreen again. Then, I replay all the cute moments where he’s being obliviously obvious about his feelings for her. I mean, that time where she tripped over herself and he caught her—kyaaah! My heart was thudding for her.

Laica

Currently recapping: Live Up to Your Name

Father Is Strange: Aw, it was nice to see lots of reconciliation this week, and finally Mi-young and Joong-hee being sweet and angst-free together! I side-eyed Mom’s health scare plotline a bit, because it seems like it was shoehorned in to make her more sympathetic at the last moment. Still, one of the things I love most about this drama is how it gives the female characters room to be complex and flawed, yet still sympathetic. I appreciate that Mom didn’t fall into either of the usual mother archetypes—most of the time we either get the saintly martyr or the screeching harridan, and I love that this mom was human, made mistakes, but ultimately was motivated by love for her family. Also, that scene of her and Dad crying and holding each other in the hallway? Killed me.

School 2017: I’m very behind on this one, partially because life is busy and partially because I love it so much that I’m savoring it. This drama feels like a high school manga come to life, in the best way—everything feels both heightened and authentic, just as life did when I was a teenager. These kids are just like we used to be: Our emotions were high and we felt like we would die for our friends; most adults seemed ridiculous and out-of-touch; and getting into college seemed like the end goal of life. Eun-ho, Tae-woon, and Dae-hwi alternately make me squeal and break my heart, and Mr. Shin just does me in every time with his full-hearted, idealistic love for his kids. Also, I don’t normally ship OTPs in school dramas, but these two adorable delinquents are perfect for each other. They make me giggle like I’m eighteen again.

Manhole: Such a weird show. And the same question persists that struck me the first two times I saw this premise (both adaptations of Operation Proposal): Why does the universe deem this hero worthy of so many extra chances, when all he had to do was speak, once? My dude is not just a pathetic loser, he’s kind of a terrible person. And in this story it makes even less sense because apparently the girl knew about his feelings and liked him back, but for some weird reason never said anything. Jaejoong’s hilarious antics are saving this for me right now; I love UEE, but she’s been given such a bland character to play here, she seems to fade into the background next to her co-star’s manic energy. I did enjoy how one fight turned Pil into a gangster, but I wish things didn’t reset for him every time he went back—it would be so much more interesting if he could no longer go to the original timeline and had to fix the mess he made. (I admit that would be a darker story, though.)

If you find the answer to where AOY2 is subbed and available in the US, could you let me know. I checked all the comments in the recent DB posts and can't find the answer. ODK lists the show, but there aren't English subs.

Had to watch it RAW, the subbed version is nowhere to be found. *Sigh*. But I'm satisfied. The Kang Unnie driving scene is both hilarious and frightening. I've been in Eun Jae, Ji Won, and Yu Eun shoes... :) :) :)

Strongest Deliveryman: MY CURRENT DRAMA CRACK! I love all the chemistry in this show. I initially watched it for my love of Chae Soo-bin and Go Kyung-pyo but now I see myself getting sucked into a black hole that is Kim Seon-ho. His acting skills are A++, the dimples are a bonus.

Live Up to Your Name: Two words: SO GOOD! I don't really remember finishing any medical dramas. (Good doctor, Doctors, Doctor Stranger, Romantic Doctor - but I badly want to finish this one) This might be the first one that I'd be able to see from start to end. Kim Nam-gil's character felt like it was written for him. The comedy, romance and chemistry are blasting off my screen!

YES!!!!! Strongest deliveryman is THE drama for me at the moment too. I started it out of my love and support for Go Kyung Pyo in his first lead role but I'm falling hard for Kim Seon Ho. My goodness, he is so adorkable, his flaws are real and his sincerity shines through all the time.

I'm waiting for Age of Youth 2 to be subbed T__T

Mars : I'm on ep.9. I don't see how the two brothers liked the same horrible girl. She's spoiled and selfish. I'm glad Ling doesn't want to go near her.

Father is Strange : It's the final week already ! I'm not ready to say goodbye to our family, Unnie, Actor, cutie Minah and let's not forget Al !

Woman of Dignity : One of my favorite 2017 drama ! I didn't know until the last episode who was the culprit. I doubt everyone at one point ! Kim Sun Ah deserves an award for her performance as the mysterious caretaker becoming rich. And remember Money doesn't equal happiness.

Bride of the Water God : This show won't last in my memory but the finale was satisfying. it should have been just a light breezy rom-com instead of playing with a mythic universe

Manhole : This week episodes were surprisingly good and emotional. I want to see a timeline where Jin Sook and Pil end up together please.

Rescue Me : I admire Sang Mi for her strong mind. If I were her I would break down and already be dead. I love her and truly hope she will be healthy and alive at the end.

Falsify : I love the characters interactions in this drama. Eom Ji Won's acting when she escaped death was so good ! And Paralegal Park is a true scene stealer <3

The King Loves : Still on my ship RinSan !

Reunited Worlds : LOL at @girlfriday comment. It's not what I expected, just a cute and breezy watch with a possible bittersweet ending.

Strongest Deliveryman : Loving the second lead's performance.

School 2017 : Aww everything was perfect this week !

Live Up To Your Name : I'm in for Kim Nam Gil's antics but still not involved in the plot yet.

Falsify - curious about the real identity of the killer. With the finger prints can't be traced, only speak with one tone, and his stoic face, sure a mysterious one. Waited for both Director Gu and Noah's lawyer to turn their back to each other, and got it this week.

Woman of Dignity is also simply one of my fav this year. Love how Bok-ja and Ah-Jin are different from each other despite of both coming from not a wealthy background. This show did a good job in making us suspect everyone as a culprit. Love that we got a clear development of sub-plots such as extra marital affairs ( it shows the clear consequences that desire is only a short happiness). For a drama with mix of genre, this is well written drama imo. Credit to the actor who acted as Ahn Jae-suc, hated him for cheating but thanks to him for some funny moments until the end. lol.

The writing was good at handling numerous subplots. I cared for a lot of Ah Jin's friends storyline and the actor who played Ahn Jae Suc usually plays goofy role so I was not disappointed. He was so ridiculous I couldn't believe it ha.

Unlurking just to give a shout out to woman of dignity too! Watched the whole thing in three days as I'm resting at home currently. Liked how the writer tied up the various storylines and absolutely loved Kim sun ah in her role, who made me both hate and pity her. And loved Kim hee sun and Lee ki woo's storyline too, he was kinda quirky yet charming and warm *heart eyes* and lastly, loved all the fashion, Kim sun ah looked amazing in her pixie crop with all the dramatic earrings and clothes!

The King Loves: My most favorite ongoing drama right now. I blushed whenever Rin and San are together. My heart will jump in excitement whenever they have their "quiet" moment together. I love when Rin insisted to clean San's wound though San said that Won might be in trouble, Rin should go to him. Finally, our boy is putting San first instead of Won.

School 2017: The bromance is back! And Eun Ho and Tae Woon are finally dating! YAAAAASSSSSSSS

Bride of the Water God: I've no idea how I finished this drama until the end because it's a flat drama. I'm disappointed that Habaek is actually an useless God.

Manhole: I thought we'd be getting Pil as bodyguard, but it turns out that he's just a lost soul. Ep 5-6 is kinda interesting to see Pil's parents being parents, not giving up on Pil. Though this week's episodes revealed how Soo Jin actually love Pil, but I can't seem to support her and I feel bad for Jin Sook when Soo Jin confronted to her that Pil only thinks and cares about Soo Jin only. Wow.

Reunited Worlds: I think I'm gonna give up on thinking about the illogical plots in this drama. It's also getting draggy and too many unnecessary scenes such as Hae Sung and the farm grandma. But I'm sticking to this because of other supporting characters because I'm not into Hae Sung & Jung Won's romance.

Strongest Deliveryman: Dan Ah and Kang Soo are cute! I like them together. Hyun Soo's grandma conversation with Jin Gyu broke my heart because I understand both perspectives and I love how grandma is so understanding.

Rescue Me: Sang Mi's dad is beyond redemption. I really want Sang Mi to bring her mom along and ditch dad with those maniacs in Guseonwon. And Dong Chul-aahhh, why you made me tear up watching you eating jjajangmyeon.

Live Up to Your Name: The double time-travel is superb! I love both Heo Im and Yeon Kyung.

Solomon's Perjury: I just started watching this drama and I'm now at episode 3. The mystery is good, but I guess it's because of School 2017, I love watching Jang Dong Yoon and Seo Ji Hoon here in this drama.

I haven't watched this week's Criminal Minds. I'm planning to watch Age of Youth 2, but I haven't found episode 1 with subs yet; I hope it'll be out soon.

I feel bad for her too. I know that Soo Jin loves Pil and cares about him, but that doesn't mean she can belittle Jin Sook's love towards Pil. Well, Jin Sook actually did feel Pil when she walked out of Soo Jin's house, but she's always been the smart one. Of course it's hard for her to accept absurd thing before she has enough evidence to prove that Pil's soul is wandering around and believe about Pil's time travel. I don't like how Soo Jin kinda blamed Jin Sook being the reason why she couldn't confess her feelings toward Pil. It's kinda hard for me to comprehend Soo Jin's thought process because how could she decide to marry someone else, but at the same time waiting for Pil to actually confess to her.

Exactly. Why is Soo Jin waiting for Pil to confess ? She's a coward in my eyes. She wants him to do the first steps because she knows Jin Sook loves him but doesn't want to appear like the one who "snatched" him from her.

did i miss recaps for ep 5-6 ? I just took a peek when it was aired. both seemed to be emotional episodes and we could see more depth about Soo Jin than just pretty face. but no matter how the writer tried, i am still not buying it. their romance is just lack of something. and i know the rest of viewers feel the same way too. even the beanies favour jin sook over her. what's wrong with Soo Jin ? Why she's so not likeable ? At some level, I feel her character is boring.

Yes, they're in modern setting. I don't read the mahwa, but I know that the manhwa seems to be in gods realm setting instead. I actually like Habaek more when he's with his long blue hair, rather than him with short normal hair and wearing modern clothes. I assume they don't have enough budget to do the god realms setting most of the time.

1. School 2017 : This comes second after school 2013, very very close. One of the best-est high school dramas i watched, and the Taenho couple is goals.

2. Deserving of the name : Finally a drama where both the leads can time travel. Thank you for that dramagods. I never watched a drama with Kim Nam gil in it, and i am very pleasantly surprised to see him acting as Heo Im. His expressions are so good. The chemistry between the leads is also another factor , why i am watching this drama.

3. Man whole : I did not like the past few episodes despite it being comical, but the last episode really brought strong emotions from the parent's side, the Soo Jin's side.

Finally started School 2017 and I like it so far. Tone of the show is more OTT compared to School 2013 but it's not as makjang as School 2015, with a little bit of Sassy Go Go feels.

I am really enjoying the trio leads and I didn't get why didn't netizen like Kim Se Jong? I don't think she's bad at all for a rookie. Jang Dong Yoon is one handsome dude and my heart flutters for his character's action but Kim Jung Hyun already got my eyes on him from Jealousy Incarnate. He gave me Kim Woo Bin vibes in that drama and it's even stronger here. You know that scene in episode 2 or 3 when Eun Ho tried to figure out who student X is by putting up paper on her peers' eyes then Tae Woon leaned super close to her? That took my breath away - the baby in my womb kicked so hard while we watch that scene. Like you said, this couple is ❤❤

Only thing I didn't like that much is the teacher and police character. I know Ssam is the one character that means well and I get that his role on the show is to bring sympathy, but he's no Daniel Choi, I don't get what it is but he's just so....dull. The policewoman is even more unrealistic, her lines made me cringe, her role I don't get, and the actress who played her makes me care even less.

Rescue Me is that one reason why I can never seem to like many of OCN dramas. This is disturbing and dark and gritty as thrillers should be. Many OCN dramas fail to go this far. Rescue Me is fulfilling my wishes to go as dark as one should be.

I am also watching The King Loves. I am actually fascinated with the politics on this drama. The characters are doing well with politicking. They are playing the game of thrones smartly. I am now just waiting for Won to go psycho on us.

Dramafever is being picky lately (or being forced to be one). It doesn't have Live Up to Your Name and Age of Youth. Uggghhhhh. This is going to have a big impact in my viewing habits going forward.

I watch Manhole and Live Up to Your Name and enjoy both. Manhole's 5th and 6th episodes were gold, the story became more subtle and more lovely. I enjoy everyone's acting and anticipate a lot from the story. I can't say much about Live Up to Your Name since I just started to watch. I was curious about Rescue Me, maybe I'll start that one. I'm also waiting for Age of Youth 2's subtitles.

Rescue Me is worth the watch. It's beyond gritty going into terrifying, because it's so easy to see how REAL this situation, these people, and the setting are. But I love it all the more for going there.

Age of youth 2 was the show I had been looking forward to, for so long, that when I thought I could finally watch it, bam, it doesn't seem to get subbed. Still, I watched it raw, but somehow not finding it subbed disappointed me a lot and not being able to understand fully what they were saying frustrated me a bit, so I stopped watching after 20 minutes. But, still, kang unni driving the car with side mirrors closed was hilarious!

Haven't caught the latest episode of strongest deliveryman yet. But, have been watching dear my friends and it tears me up every episode. On episode 8 now. All of them are adorable and it makes me miss my grandmother, so much so, that It's slightly hard to watch at times, but I have come to love these people a lot that I can't stop watching. That funeral picture scene was just so beautiful! Jung ah and hee ja's friendship would probably be the ultimate friendship for me!

Had a serious conversation with a friend yesterday about "Dear My Friends' and if we could pass 70 years. Due to our kids busy lives, our friends are those we could depend on.... :(

DMF never let me tears free even in one episode. Instead of Kleenex, I used towel to wipe my tears... One of the best drama I've ever watched!

Father is Strange: I can't believe I survived watching an ongoing family drama (which I never did in the past few years) and I believe it's because the show was so lovable that I'm watching it for its characters. We're down to the final week and with everything set for the finale, I can only hope for a great one! I will surely miss you, show!

Manhole: I watched this week's episode expecting it to be so funny but I got 2 episodes of BONG FEELS instead (I'm not complaining tho) and I never expected myself to cry like a little girl for about 2 hours because of this show. The thing with this present is that the characters were sooooo much better and mature, I ended up liking this version of them than the first ones. I loved how Pil changed his friends for the better (except for Soo-jin's case) and how this episode showed us that he is loved, may it be Soojin, his family or his friends. Episode 5 & 6 just proved us that anything can happen in the present whenever Pil tries to change the past. The show is a new kind of supernatural, and I'm getting ready for what will happen in the next few episodes: may it be aliens, time travel, ghosts, or anything that the show tries to give us.

Strongest Deliveryman: Binge-watched my way through the latest episode and I must say that I'm already sold from the start! I don't know if it's because of our determined and hard-working main leads, the bickering chaebol second leads, the story, the friendships, the romance, the bromance (give it back, show), or Go Kyung Pyo's fluffy hair that pulled me onto watching the show but IT'S ALL WORTH IT.

Age of Youth 2: OH HOW I MISSED THE GIRLS OF BELLE EPOQUE. The thing with this show is that I never felt like I'm watching a new season (because of all the changes in the show) but instead the 13th episode! Taking over an existing role of someone in a show is hard, but I'm glad that Ji-woo is doing a great job at portraying Eun-Jae (she's a little bit awkward but it's just the beginning of the show so she'll eventually improve). I know I should have made myself ready for what's going to happen (I'm going to miss Kang Unnie), but I guess the show is just so well written that I'm forgiving it for taking Yi-na away this Season. All I can say right now is Age of Youth Season 2 was worth all the wait!

Agree with Girlfriday's comment about Reunited Worlds.. Everything indeed fell from the sky... LOL!!!

Tineybeanie... I did the same thing as you in The King Loves. I watch it in One channel, and I find myself playing games on my phone when Rin not shown in my screen. When I read TKL recaps, I skip and only read parts about Rin first then re-read again. Honestly, the show really are not doing a good job for me to root for Won. What's with this cage thing and wanting to throw everything including his friend for a girl? Especially when this friend is his childhood friend who always put him as his first in everything...

School 2017 - I give all of my love for this show.

Falsify - Just finished all 4 epi in one go. Imo, Splash Team was the centre of this week's episodes. Still fangirling Seok-min Sunbae.

Live Up For Your Name - Love that both male and female leads are the time travelers. Expecting the rating to be higher this week.

Age of Youth - I watched it raw since still no sub, but the girls never failed to amaze me. lol. Maybe Kang unni will be back during the last epi with better driving skills. lmao.

The King's Woman - I am loving this drama. We are getting somewhere with the heroine's storyline. She seems quite weak, maybe because she still doesn't settle down with her situation. But now she is a mother, she will be stronger. Preview seems great and this girl is not a brainless here. I don't know when she will fall in love with the King, but she started to view him from different perspective. And that 'dates kiss' was among my favourite ?

Memory Lost - love what I watched so far. The first case - rape case where the rapist is a psycho. He first drugged the victims' drink, then hypnotized the victims so it looks like the victims are having a sweet fairytale dream instead of nightmare, make the victims wear bridal gown before doing his business. That's creepy. This case is intriguing, I need to watch next epi to understand his motivation.

More than the romance, I'm more interested with characters' development. It's not easy to root for their romance because like you said, he is agressive. But some of his actions towards her show that he is really love her. But he is someone who never properly received love so it is quite understandable on the way he wants to gain her affections. Love that she still speak her mind with him despite of being terrified with his actions.

Finally properly watched Misaeng, and was delighted to see it lived up to every bit of praise heaped on it. So grounded in a credible office setting - wonderful stuff. Having difficulty believing the writer went on to Bride of Haebak, given what I've been reading above for the past weeks!

Not really started Falsify yet, so still watching the weekend shows - Strongest Deliveryman and Live Up to Your Name (with time travel twist seemingly out of Queen Inhyun's Man).

Also, Bluebeard arrived yesterday from the US so that's my Saturday night (which will inevitably lead to a Forest of Secrets rewatch!)

Well, with Misaeng the writer stuck to the original manhwa and stuck to the manhwa's writer's demands (no love line).

Bride of the Watergod wasn't an "adaptation" in that sense – it took names, an idea of a godly kingdom and did its own story. Which the writer obviously wasn't good at (that's witout commenting on the casting, which obviously also was more solid in Misaeng).

Hmm, that's interesting. I didn't know that and I haven't watched the whole of Arang myself though from what I know it's had a more positive receptive than BOTWG.

So maybe she's a hit-and-miss writer? Or something in her life circumstances or in the production affected the drama? Maybe the director/producers/others had more say or maybe she was just able to work better with the Arang team? We can only guess...

I am almost afraid to start Age of Youth 2. I love the first season so much and aren't that thrilled with the changes. So it's great to read that the premiere is good.

School 2017 One of the reasons why this drama wasn't under my radar initially was because it looked like Heirs to me. I wasn't familiar with the School series so I had no idea. I never expected this show to be so delightful. The cast of young and new or relatively inexperienced actors has blown me away. Kim Jung Hyun, I am going to follow and watch you from henceforth!

Besides School, Rescue Me and Live Up To Your Name, I am also watching The King Loves. I just started and now almost caught up with the latest. I am so impressed with Im Si Wan in this but my heart got stolen by Rin. I think this is the first time I have SLS. My heart aches whenever I see Rin, I can't bear the thought of him losing...*avoiding spoilers* Never would I have imagined that Hong Jong Hyun can do this to me!

LOL, Heirs is not a school drama imk but for me it's just another romance story between chaebol hero and poor heroine that set up in high school. Kinda like another version of BOF for me , which both happened to have Lee Min Ho as hero. ?

I'm trying not to think so highly about Mori-tae's acting yet, he definitely has a potential to become bigger actor but it really depends on his next step in choosing projects.. re: School 2017 - I couldn't agree more! (also, you should try Sassy Go Go, which is by one of the writers of School 2017).

We've all had some excellent swoon material out of Tae-swoon for weeks now, but I have to give some love to the girl he likes being so adorable and awesome in her own right, and so well played by Kim Se-jung. She has a natural, down-to-earth charm and great chemistry with all her costars, and even if Eun-ho is written as a drama version of Kim Se-jung's own personality, she deserves credit for her performance. Eun-ho isn't a flashy 'badass' kind of character, but in the hands of the wrong actress, she could easily have come across a bit blah, and with Kim Se-jung that never happens - she keeps us engaged and invested and rooting for her, and I definitely feel like part of why Tae-swoon is so swoony is because it feels like her has the good taste to like a really awesome (albeit imperfect and human) girl.

I've seen what it's like when a talented actor has to throw everything they have into acting the romantic hero/heroine to a costar with zero acting talent (seen this happen with Kim Woo-bin, Kim So-hyun, and Lee Jong-seok), and I can certify to this - the swoon is at least 50 percent dependent on the actor's costar in question playing their character right.

Age of Youth Season 2: he girls are back and the first episode exceeds my expectation and more. It's so real, relatable, funny and reminds me of what I love about the first season. I think I will definitely enjoy watching this. Yay for more dramas on the weekend!

Strongest Deliveryman: I laugh and cry with Jin-gyu, so I guess my heart belongs to him. I love Ji-yoon's hilarious one sided insistence on sticking to Kang-soo's side at the expense of Jin-gyu. I like that they're sort of becoming "friends" in that Ji-yoon always ends up asking him for advice and whatnot, so despite their grudging reluctance they're opening up to each other. I guess soon she'll be crying on his shoulder when she gets heart-broken over Kang-soo.

Live Up to Your Name: I never knew that Kim Ah-joong can be so funny. Her fake noble lady sageuk speech in Joseon had me in stitches. Can they go back to Joseon again?

School 2017: Sarang is probably the most mature character in the entire drama (or second after Kyung-woo?). I got tears in my eyes at the conclusion of her character arc. Dae-hwi and Tae-woon mended their ends so maybe now I can stop watching? Unlike others I'm not that invested in this drama. The performances were okay but the editing was really poor, so while scene by scene it can be considered decent, I feel extremely disconnected in the overall story.

Criminal Minds: Just going through the motions. I keep looking at the episode tracker and wondering why an episode can feel so long. Not a good sign when you're supposed to be a tension-filled crime thriller.

Hyori's Homestay: Give IU all the chocolates!! I don't understand why she has so many haters. I think she's an incredibly talented artist, and very mature for her age. I can relate so much to her and find her genuine and adorable.

I'm now less interested in Age of Youth. All Teaser/Trailers are giving pretty average kdrama feel. Waiting for subs and then gonna decide to drop it or not.
Jin Gyu is the star of the show. Ji-Yoon shines confidently. Story lacks seriousness. You don't feel the common-man's life or daily struggles. The name goes well with the story and characters show has. It just pokes the surface and then moves on.

Mon-Tue . Falsify is still my drama. I like it, and the characters are great.

Wed-Thu . Man who dies to live - That finale was like the rest of the show, crazy. Still can't understand the last 2 min of it, but whatever.
Manhole - Just like I could not have watched Kill me, Heal Me without Ji Sung, I seriously could have never watched this without JaeJoong. He gives the drama its 200% and makes me care about a guy I would have hated in every other drama. And btw, what's with Uee being a robot here, where are her feelings ???

Weekend - Yay, Age of Youth. Nay, who tf has the subtitles of this. Is it ondemandkorea? Kokowa? Viki? Dramafever?
Save Me. I'm here for the evil ride, but what's with the main guy. His friend is way better.

New journey to the west. - I finished seon 4 last week.
Watched season 1. Fell in love with Ahn Jae Hyun in season 2. He is the best korean celebrity ever. The only one I know who can say that he sucks at everything. That he loves his wife and everybody hates him. And that his voice is monotone :D

TKL is going really good as well, well what to expect from the talented Song Ji Na right? But why I love San and Rin more? Hmm.

For RW, I don't like what I'm feeling about it lately but I'm still hoping for the best. Hwaiting show!

School 2017: Before, I loved it, but not as much as some of the fangirls in the comments. But I caught up with the last three episodes all at once and now I'm dyyyyying for more.

Binggoo: I just marathoned this, and boy was it weird seeing Han Sun-hwa and Kim Jung-hyun and Kim Hee-chan all have a love-line. School 2017 made me forgot that they're all a similar age! The end was incredibly convenient (please don't gloss over the life-and-death stakes you made up, show) but it was heartwarming.

Strongest Deliveryman: Loooooooooooove. I literally have no cohesive thoughts to share.

I can't believe Father is Strange is ending this week, two more episodes and that's it, I'm going to miss this show, it made me root for all the couples but like JB, it's mom and dad that got me the most, I just love their scenes together, I cried and laughed at the scene where dad is telling her that even if he's born again he will still marry her and when he asked if she'd do the same she just went "글쎄" ?❤

I love Strongest Deliveryman, haven't watched episode 7 yet, will do after writing this comment (LOL). I hated Dan-ah at first but now that I can understand her a little better I like her, Go Kyung-pyo is great but I'm surprised at how much I like Kim Seon-ho (and his dimples) in this, I would've never guessed he's the team Maknae from Chief Kim if beanies didn't mention it!

The King Loves: were Yoona and Hong Jong-hyun always this good?

And I'm watching The Liar and His Lover, was thinking to marathon it but things keep coming up, so one episode at a time, why is everyone so adorable? I was not sure of how I'd like Joy in this but I LOVE her as So-rim, she's just so bubbly and cute!

Bad Guy An oldie. Started well, and then got worse as it went along (though I had hopes throughout). Kim Jae Wook's character was great (writing & acting). Kim Nam Gil's... well, if he's going to be a bad guy out for revenge, can he please be properly bad? Because otherwise the whole thing is just half-baked. Han Ga-In's character – I still don't understand her. She had no real motivation for gold-digging so I found her character pointless, just a device for the romance part. I also don't understand why she didn't run away from KNG (why do you want to get involved in a mess like he was clearly in? Why was he so 'trustworthy'?), but then she was just stupid because even when she knew pretty much everything she still bought Tae-ra claiming that KNG's character was on vacation. ???
What I would have liked: Jae-in having her own dark revenge plan (then her gold-digging and her sticking with someone else exacting revenge might have made sense), Gun-wook actually really willing to do anything to get revenge, Gun-wook realising Tae-sung's conflict with his family so they could have buddied up. Also agree with everything JV & GF said in their recap of the pretty much WTF final episodes.

Live up to Your Name I like the leads and their characters but I'm not sure I will last through the whole drama (it's watchable, but I'm not hooked in any way). I prefer the modern day setting.

Watashi Kekkon Dekinai Janakute, Shinain desu Was hoping for a solid female version of Man Who Can't Get Married, but this was crap. Lasted maybe 3 episodes and then skipped through the rest (watching no more than 5-10 mins of each). The female lead was like a teenager in her approach to love. Male lead... not sure why he was the love guru when his advice was pretty much crap? And all the entanglements with the other guys made not much sense either. Pity, because the version with Hiroshi Abe was hilarious & insightful.

Overprotected Kahoko Some are comparing this to NigeHaji, but I don't think it's as good. It's not bad though – and I would say this has a lot to do with the female lead as the male lead so far, as nice as he is, feels a bit flat – a plot device, rather than having much of his own story ––– which was something NigeHaji was very good at: making each character feel like they had a story of their own. The mother drives me insane though, and, I'm afraid, I don't think a person like her can change or change much.

Dropped: Strongest Deliveryman. The writing doesn't work for me, I don't care enough about the characters (some are okay, but I'm not in any way invested), and there's too much that's cliché and predictable.

Waiting for Age of Youth 2 subs.

I was thinking of starting Overprotected Kahoko but didn't know that people were comparing to NigeHaji, i think i'm going to wait the drama to finish to start watching, the only Japanese drama i'm watching from this season it's "Hello Harinezumi" with Eita, i'm on episode 3 but i'm still feeling meh about it.

Required fields are marked *

I think the comparison is because of some of its more quirky elements (incl. the dad envisioning family member as animals – sort of like Mikuri's vivid imagination) and because the female lead is, in a way, an outlier of society (like Hiramasa was) who suddenly is confronted with things she never confronted before.

Also, Hoshino Gen sings the theme song...

It's got something, but if NigeHaji is 10/10, then OK is maybe 7/10 (so far) and it definitely doesn't have a palette of endearing characters the way NigeHaji did with all the co-workers and relatives. Quite a few feel more like plot devices and several are more annoying than loveably quirky (the mom, the dad's sister).

I would try Eita's latest but I don't really like Kyoko Fukada – she always seems to play dumb characters that I find only annoying. I mean, if she was in an amazing drama with an otherwise great cast, I'd watch but I've always found her presence to be an indicator of pretty meh dramas...

She's not so much a spoiled princess (zero arrogance) as a sheltered child that has never ventured out into real, wild world (not by her own fault but her parents kept her – almost literally – bubblewrapped).

Her character is also naïve to the point that some viewers have wondered if she has some disability – I don't think the writer intends to suggest that though, I see it more as a, hmm, "mangafication of character".

I'm enjoying Live up to your Name and I'm pleased they went together to Joseon so that Yeon-kyung could have the fish out of water experience. Bonus: Sung-joo is working at the hospital too!
I finished Bride of the Water God which could have been so much more, was bored with Reunited Worlds which seems to be going round in circles and started Strongest Deliveryman.
I also watched the moving Northern Limit Line as part of my ongoing Lee Hyun Woo retrospective and Shoot me In the Heart for some stellar acting from Lee Min-ki and Yeo Jin-goo. Now I want to watch more Lee Min-ki.

Strongest Deliveryman: started it because of GKP, staying with it because of KSH. Stellar acting all around though, and their chemistry as a cast is superb.

School 2017: I thought I wouldn't enjoy it because I'm living adult problems but what do you know, it distracts me from reality.

Bride of the Water God: I like the actors individually, but as an ensemble... they just don't do well together? Or maybe it's a result of the weak writing that everything else feels jumbled. The last four episodes had something more - maybe it was IJH's intensity, the chemistry that somehow kicked in between NJH and SSK - but it's not enough for me to look back on the drama fondly and go for a rewatch.

Manhole - I'm halfway through the first episode and I'm not sure if I should stick around for the rest. I find the lead character a bit grating, but I am a sucker for time traveling stories.

I'm deeply, desperately in love with The King Loves, it's such a cohesive show and it shows you what the characters are thinking from three perspectives: Rin's, Won's and San's. What other drama gives you monologues from three characters? Seriously wish this drama was more popular with Beanies.

I've fallen in love with Hong Jong Hyun and his melodic, hypnotic voice. Was he always this good? I can't get him or Yoona off my mind. I'd nominate him, and the lead of Forest of Secrets for the most soothing kdrama voices this year.

BOTWG was so-so. Thankfully it ended on a good note; for a drama with so much potential, it's run was disappointing. School 2017 is OK, I'm not too enamored with it. But I love the dark grittiness of Save Me, and I'm so going to miss one of the best family dramas I've watched, Father Is Strange. What'll I do with my Saturdays and Sundays now?

I don't understand why Dramafever hasn't been able to get licenses for JTBC and tVN shows lately. I understand their predicament with the big three networks because of Kocowa, but not the cable networks, surely. And they were even able to get a license for Hospital Ship but not Age of Youth 2 or Woman of Dignity or Deserving of the Name. And Viki is such a mess right now...

I'm trying to figure the perfect scenario where RinSan will stop holding back for Won, it'll probably make Won understandably go psycho on them (Im Siwan will be so good at that!)... But in the end, I want the trio to come out with their friendship intact and live happily ever after.

I guess that's the beauty of TKL. I cant wait for Monday! It's been awhile since I live watching a drama... But TKL did that.

The King Loves: I love how the three monologues and three perspectives too. Those scenes are really beautifully shot as well!

I'm aware that many beanies dismissed this drama because of Yoona and HJH... But trust me, they nailed their roles here, their chemistry is off the charts. I can't stop replaying all those RinSan quiet, stolen moments.

Strongest Deliveryman is entertaining but deserves not more than B grade. The writer goung hard to prove and make-believe the audience the "wrong is right" isn't working at all. B grade

Save Me - i said in earlier recaps that the Heroine is AN IDIOT and bang and episodes provide she actually is. Weak writing riding over good direction and music. B+ grade.

Live upto your Name - Hero Worship. Hero does this and that/ here and there and everywhere. serious and goofy. Stupid and smart. And Heroine has to suffer all of it. I feel sympathy for Heroine as writer bent on making Heron-the-almighty. Heroine has to suffer all the consequences. To create a shinny hero writer intentionally attacked character of heroine. B GRADE

School 2017 - C grade. The less said about it the better.

Manhole - B grade. This is one good form of art. Writer knows what he/she is upto and director goes along with it. Good timepass. That's it.

The only show I watched this week was Rescue Me, which was as spine-chilling as ever. Sang-mi must be made of iron to endure everything she's been through and not lose herself completely. I think I would like this show a lot less if the heroine was a helpless damsel in distress, but even though Sang-mi is a victim, she is active rather than passive about her situation, and that makes all the difference.

Still not sure if it's worth catching up on Reunited Worlds. I enjoyed the episodes that I watched, but I'm pretty sure 80% of that was related to Yeo Jin-gu's smile.

Can anyone give me a (spoiler-free) opinion on the most recent Strongest Deliveryman episodes? I watched the first three and the setup seemed promising, but I heard a lot of criticism after episode 5 and I'm concerned.

Opinions about Strongest Deliveryman seem to be pretty divided. I would say it depends on what you found promising in the first three episodes (and what you found anything annoying, if anything), whether you'd find the rest worth your time.

I don't think it's giving us anything very new here, but if you particularly like one (or more) of the actors, it might also be for you?

I agree with alua - it depends on what the show's appeal is to you personally. I thought episode 5 and 6 were where the show found its footing, but a lot of the criticism post-episode 5 seems to be centred on the development of a single character not turning out as wanted, so it's your call on that.

I'm actually missing BOWG, it made me look forward to Mondays.
I dropped Reunited worlds a while back, I wish YJG would finally catch some luck with the dramas he chooses. Its a let down after watching Circle.
So I'm only watching Rescue me and it's the best show right now, cinematic in quality. I'm actually liking taecaeyon in this, he's so earnest with his bumbling country accent. But the scene stealer is Woo do hwan, that ad-lib in jail where he turned around to peck his granny goodbye, he stole my heart. First saw him in Man who lives in my house and am so glad he's getting popular now.

I have to say that episode 7 of "Strongest Deliverymen" was really good, this show gets better and better imo, somehow i really warmed up to Kang Soo after this episode (better late than never lol). Jin Gyu dimple game still strong ♡, he's still my favorite character from the show even though he's far from being perfect like the first lead.

Father Is Strange is ending this weekend! i never thought that i would miss a 50+ weekend drama but i will, and i'll especially miss our boy Lee Joon 'cause this will probably be his last drama before the army right? T___T

I started watching Save Me but had to put it on hold for a while because it got too dark lol, the drama is really good but it's a hard watch.

watching:
the king loves: it has gotten really good, so now I am really watching it instead of just watching some scenes and then read the recap. i always liked hong jong hyun despite having some qualms with his acting, but this drama made me really like him. im siwan is always good, though I wish I feel more charisma from him when he finally stopped playing it safe but if Won became like how he was in the novel, it would interesting to see him acting Won out. i have gotten bored of stories where friendships got ruined because of love, but so far surprisingly the friendships are still quite intact.

criminal minds: watch this without really paying attention, the villains are getting better...but I still feel hyunjoon is still too gary stu. which i don't like.

I have dropped strongest deliverymen despite my love for chae soobin, and i think i am dropping criminal minds too. I am waiting for Age of Youth...but no subs yet...

I read that jtbc had a deal with Netflix. Over 600 hours of programming. I don't know the details, but it is likely that this includes upcoming dramas. So, we may have to wait. Because I don't really see any reason why DF and Viki do not have AoY or WoD.

tvN, I'm not quite sure. DF is probably being choosy on what dramas to air. It did air Forest of Secrets and currently airing OCN's Rescue Me, tvN's sister company.

Dal Ja's Spring - Somebody hold me. I finished this yesterday and there's a void in my life. Will I ever see a relationship that grows so organically? Will I ever find a drama with a variety of woman, all of whom are fleshed out and as real as can be? Will I ever see something like the bond Dal Ja and Seon Joon share? Will I ever find a heroine like Dal Ja, so very aware of her flaws, yet striving to do her best? Will I ever find a hero like Tae Bong, who never pushes, but gently nudges and patiently waits? Everything about it was just so relatable, from struggling with romance, dealing with the workplace, trying to fulfill family obligations, juggling your own wants and needs vs what society expects etc. Absolutely loved it. What a gem of a drama! ❤❤

Reunited Worlds - Sunshine, thy name is Yeo Jin Goo. It's really hard not to love Hae Sung. He's like the cutest bunny ever. I love the burgeoning Min Joon/Hae Sung bromance and yet I can see that Min Joon already is little uneasy with whatever is there between Hae Sung and Jung Won. One other thing that's stressing me out is Tae Hoon's and Young In's relationship going south. Tae Hoon wants to help and I'm just seeing disaster everywhere. I really dont care about the plot at this point. I just dont want anybody to be hurt! :(

Live Up To Your Name - I saw the first episode, a little of the second and then jumped straight to the 4th. Ngl, the fact that they are going to be time-travelling back and forth has me invested. Also, I waiting to see Yeon Kyung be #shook when she sees Heo Im in modern day clothing. I'm predicting heart eyes. :D

To everyone: What is Chungmuro?
I've been wanting to ask this but never got the chance. Anyone here could tell me?

And back to what I'm watching:
King of Mask Singer: On episode 68, where the Romantic Dark Knight is making his grand escape from getting dethroned. Love him, but I love Music Commander more. I would never be able to escape the magic that Ha Hyun-woo had created inside Music Commander. It's just fabulous

Bride of Water God: I might be the minority here that actually like the drama. Well, I watch it with my parents and they like it as well, and always wait for it week after week. I find the drama amusing and fun, so maybe I'm the weird one? haha

Forest of Secrets: How the hell I'm still stuck at episode 8 at this point, I'm not sure. It's been weeks, but I keep on falling asleep while watching the drama and it's a struggle to get past episode 8. I usually love drama like this, so I wonder why. Still haven't got an answer to this

Rescue Me: OMG. What did they do to Sang Mi and her family? That's just so cruel. Very very cruel. I was like, "Go save her, boy!" to the boys when they argued with the follower of the cult during the collition. I hope they could go and save her! That poor girl seriously need so much help. Stay strong, Sang Mi!

Father is strange - It is the last weekend guys but I don't want this show to end as am barely glossing over other shows right now. I will miss the Byun family.

AOY2 - Why no subs on any sites? I have been waiting for this show.

Still sort of watching rescue me and live up to your name. I have been watching more variety lately - 2D1N (the revival of team 3G vs team LTE..so funny), Hyori's bed and breakfast (surprisingly interesting - Hyori has a tough girl exterior with a soft heart), Show me the money 6 - The contestants are stronger in this season. The producers seem closer and more likable (Bizzy aka MC Gong Yoo really looks like Gong Yoo ..the resemblance is uncanny...lol)

The end of episode 1 with Mom and Dad watching the kids make up during their time out (lol) was so cute. Aaaand I finally started Healer and oh how I wish I was a beanie back when it was airing just to fangirl with everyone else haha.

Crisis: Kouan Kidou Sousatai Tokusou-han - Loving all the action, trying to understand the politics.

Falsify – I really like this drama but I savoring it.

The King’s Woman – Getting riled up ( in the good sense ) by the psycho king and harem drama.

Reunited Worlds – I’m all for Haesung and Jung Won’s romance, although it’s gonna end eventually. I also want to know who the murderer was.

Age of Youth 2 – I need to go watch this asap

Save Me – I liked the first episode but the darkness makes me cautious to continue with speed.

Bride of the Water God – I actually kind of got into this but it doesn’t hold my attention much so I gradually dropped it.

Million yen women - i would say it is a character study. And of the main character's growth. But in a bizarre situation. With a mystery at the end.
Great acting. I really felt for the main character. Which is what drew me in. I connected with him - his isolation, guilt.
But the ending? Im not sure i liked it. Dont want to spoil it. If you want to ever pick it up

Fight My Way: I only had to finish up the last two episodes. This is probably my favorite romance drama of the year. Not perfect but totally solid in story, chemistry and pacing. I don't think the family angst was necessary but they kept it low key so I didn't mind. The leads doing the fake aegyo is hilarious.

The King's Woman (c-drama) No chemistry issues here. Wow.

Bride of the Water God: I disagree with one of the beanies (was it Javabeans?)...this is all on the writer not the actors. NJH was to me just middle of the road while the others were fine but even if the most top notch k-drama actor around would have played the part, it still wouldn't have saved this drama. I found the chemistry between the leads fine, but the story...I mean what the heck. It's hard for me to believe the writer of Arang wrote this. Having said this, it kept me entertained enough to finish it and I dump dramas at the drop of a hat. I think at some point I just accepted it was all romance and no real fantasy story.

School 2017: At the end of episode 9, the writer got lazy and made a well drawn character do something against what we have learned about her nature over the last 9 hours of drama watching. It didn't last long but as I was watching, I thought: Nope I don't buy it. I did like that the bully/loser guy stood up to his mom though it didn't seem to have any impact.

With regard to Criminal Minds, I had to laugh at Javabean's comment because that is basically every single episode of the US tv show. That and the amazing feats of Garcia to find the most mundane information on her handy computer are a few of my complaints about the US show. The level of gore/torture shown being my main complaint.

Protect The Boss: Started but haven't really gotten far yet due to my crazy schedule.

Mini rant: Why the heck aren't Viki and DF getting every cable drama they can? I imagine they are trying but it is SO frustrating. All this new content not on a legal site.

Father is Strange: I love this show so much. I had a hard time watching last week's episodes, because every moment I watch brings me closer to the end. The scene where the Joong-hee and Mi-young were getting ribbed by all the siblings was the best.

Strongest Delivery Man: I really like this show, but find I have to take it in more slowly than is usual for me. I love the complexity of the characters--each of the four have flaws and strengths, and their own goals that drive them. It makes for very interesting dynamics, and I love how the show is using these shades-of-grey to explore how living in an unequal social system constrains, motivates, and rewards people differently (and usually in ways that have nothing to do with what they "deserve")

Manhole: Silly fun is silly and fun.

Deserving of the Name: I really like the characters and a lot of the individual scenes, the actors are good and there's good chemistry. I'm not terribly invested in the plot at this point.

The King's Woman: I don't want to love this unhealthy romance as much as I do, but I can't help myself. Loving the sets, seriousness, political intrigue, the whole nine yards.

The Eternal Love: Started watching this because of the positive recap Dramas with a Side of Kimchi are doing. Really loved the first half which was ridiculous but in a fun+sizzling chemistry kind of way, but am finding my interest flagging as we get into the not-very-convincing politics and weird parallel universe backstory.

Sound of the Desert: Started watching this to see if it could satisfy my Chinese-historical-fiction craving that watching the King's Woman started, and am finding it surprisingly funny and interesting. The story of a girl raised by wolves who goes to the city to become a surprisingly shrewd entertainment entrepreneur. If you can suspend your belief about that (it is a stretch), then the great chemistry with both male leads and the charming variety of female characters are great. The best scene is when she wakes after being abducted into a dance house. A tearful woman is in the room with her and explains that it isn't a brothel but their reputations will suffer! Meanwhile our wolf-raised heroine who could care less about reputation says "this seems like a place where I can eat and have fun!" Which--yes! Anyway, it's a fun watch.

I'm finally back to watching dramas!

Bride of Habaek: It was an okay show with a disappointing ending. Nevertheless, I did enjoy some parts of it. So at least it's not a waste of time for me. :)

Strongest Deliveryman: I just began watching this and I just finished episode 3. Usually I find premiere episodes really boring and confusing, but the first half of this premiere episode was actually pretty good, but the second half was so boring that I kind of wanted to drop this. But I continued watching, and it's definitely getting better! So far none of the characters annoy me and I love Go Kyung Pyo's character! I will try to catch up to the latest episode this weekend!
