Hi,

The Real Life Kdrama moment of the week:

Today is St. Johns´ day here, but it is also a birthday of a relative who is really chatty and sort of frustrating and all her parties end up with total drama themselves. My parents wanted me to go in their stead, but I said I have work till 5pm, when in reality I am playing hooky and cleaning house. I really really don´t want to meet this relative, sheis too mean and nasty to me. But if I ran errands, there was a chance of running into my parents, who had the day off. So I thought long and hard whether I should go outside at all. But my fridge was empty and the shops will be closed 3 days for the national holiday so... I prepared well from the start: put on some old clothes in a weird combination that I thought they would not recognise from afar, and a hooded jacket. Same neighborhood...Then I cracked my head whether to go to the supermarket first or the farmers´ market. The air was clear in the supermarket. Then I came to the farmers market to buy fresh bread and salad... and walked right past my dad! But he wasnt paying attention, airhead as he is, so I pulled the hood over my head and hid behind salad and walked more or less bravely past. You know, when people run away from someone they don´t want to see in dramas using trays and newspapers... I sneaked around the stands like a ninja and used other people & tourists´ suitcases as a cover to reach a flower shop, so I could keep my eye on him through the glass, pretending to admire cactuses. And he was right where I wanted to go, waiting in line for bread. Drat! I needed bread, so I risked everything, inched slowly and took a spot in the line, hiding behind salad again. I think the baker thought I was nuts (I wasn´t sure of my sanity myself). when my dad was leaving the shop I was glued to the wall like a gekko, But I got my bread! Saved by a hooded jacket and greens.

anyway, let´s hope there will be no "I saw a crazy person in the market who looked like you!" later when I go to St. Johns´ eve bonfire and concert with them.

drama watching: Lookout (they are sop broken and lost and I just wish for a peaceful existence for them. Cant really fit into my head "Taekie appa" being so evil and his son is a mystery. Did he really push the girl? I think I fell into a trap), Circle (how do do sci fi if all you have is a very good script), Suspicious Partner (such a well balanced drama that turns expectations on its head), The Best Hit (funny!), Woman of dignity (such derailed individuals!)

but now, let´s have a stuffed toy battle. Best stuffed toy wingman in korean dramas?

in Europe we celebrate St. Johns on 24th of June - it's a magical night - the shortest one and when together with full moon the medicinal herbs have much more power - we're doing the fire as well and in my culture the guys were jumping over the big fire to show off who is the strongest one amongst them ;-)

next time put a mask with that hoodie and you'll be totally k-drama character :-D

As I just finished the series over this past weekend I'd have to say Go Byung-hee's stuffed toy (I think it was a fox?) in What's Up Fox. No idea what's its name but it carried Park Chul-soo's love letter inside and eventually managed to get the message to its intended. A true wingman if you ask me.

And your story is gold! Laughed the entire way through imagining your incognito appearance.

HA I laughed so hard picturing you as Sam Soon trying to sneak into the bureau to change her name, evading Sam Shik's thugs in her huge sunglasses and 60s silk headscarf/trench coat disguise. OMG, what a scene. Unreal that you should run right into your father! Most people would have 1) gone home and come back later or 2) given up and confessed but not redfox! You were going to continue your appointed rounds and declare Mission Accomplished or die trying! Just, OMG.

So since I'm already thinking of MNIKSS, I'll select Sam Sook the Piggy as best wingman because she succeeded in reverse. Normally you think of the stuffed toy as conveying love to the heroine but as so many things in MNIKSS, even the toy went against the grain. Piggy Sam Sook worked to get under Sam Shik's skin on Sam Soon's behalf and no amount of trying to give her away to children, to beat her to a pulp or to trash her succeeded in breaking her spell. Even before Sam Soon knew she wanted Sam Shik, Piggy had appeared and dug in. Sam Shik acknowledged her power by recommending that Chef give Sis a Piggy to secure his own futile pursuit. It kills me to say so, but that Sam Shik thought Sam Soon probably was a 'fat pig' to start off makes it all the more poignant for me.

I would have gone home but shops close early on holiday, also, the baker said he is making the last batch of just 24 breads and if I had returned later, they would have been all gone. It is a really tasty bread that I can´t make myself. (and then the first lady in the line took 6 loafs and everyone panicked, and the baker chuckled. )
but the irony is, my dad was standing in the same line to buy bread for ME, cause he thought I´d be working and wouldnt manage grocery shopping. so now I have two loafs since I couldnt exactly say I bought one 30 seconds later. Then I felt kinda terrible. But I bought him beer and ice cream at St Johns´ party, so I guess we´re square.
Gosh. Life has some strange twists.

Am I the only one who is beginning to feel a drama drain? Like, I still LOVE dramas, but this year, I have been unable to finish a single drama. And even choosing one to watch takes hours of browsing. I have been watching Thai BL dramas these days.

This was me before this current crop of dramas. You are definitely in a slump but the recent offerings are pretty good. Take your time watch some thai dramas ( and recommend some good ones too) and then come back to these dramas airing right now.

I was in a slump around end of January and the recent offerings got me out of it. However, I have yet to find that new drama that's truly crack for me. SP is the closest, but I still don't feel it as a bona fide crack drama.

Required fields are marked *

I am too. The only current drama I'm watching is "The Best Hit." (And I almost quit that one after the first episode. But I'm happily, anxiously waiting for each episode. But it's my only current drama. I did (finally) watch 6 Flying Dragons. (The women breast feeding pigs initially turned me off/turned my stomach. But this time I just started on episode 2.) I don't know if it's the dramas that are the problem, or if it's me. I've started quite a few (Sassy Girl, Suspicious Partner, 7 day queen, and fight my way) but haven't gotten past the first couple of episodes in any of them. I like the actors and actresses in all of them. I think it may be me.

So someone really is interested in BL dramas.
I'm into Water Boyy The Series.
If i can sacrifice my sleep for an episode that means i'm interested in it or else everything is just a timepass. Characters or die doesn't even matter. If i follow this criteria then most of 2017 kdramas not attracted much of my attention.

I wasnt keeping up with SDQ's recap and comments and was conflicted over the idea that how I could like Yung more than Yeok even knowing that he has been a tyrant king. But after reading the comments in the recent recap, I'm glad that im not alone. LDG is killing it and he has certainly taken the cake from YWJ for me as I look forward to his scenes more.
Also the writers have made him more interesting. Politics in sageuks is what keeps me away from them bit this sageuk uses it so effectively that I don't skip a single scene and itsgood to see a king finally speaking up against his ministers sarcastically and confidently. Totally into this sageuk.

Circle is still good but am i the only one whose glad that its only 12 episodes because i feel like the show has loosened a bit. Maybe because the beta project world was always a little more engaging and almost all mysteries over there are solved. It is still a well done show for me even though with a bit loose ends.

SDQ is amazing, and LDG is just slaying in every episode, but I'm actually guessing we're all going to end up falling for YWJ more once they let him have more swoony moments and he's spending less time trying to be cruel for the sake of protecting Chae-kyung. So far, we've seen Yeonsangun being complex, unpredictable and sarcastic/cruel with his ministers but in his relationship with CK he's been gentle and protective, whereas we've mostly seen Yeok being alternately action-hero-ing his way around town and being pretty cruel to CK. But now that Yeok's identity is revealed I think we're going to get more complexity to his character and motivations, and hopefully also more sweet/intense interactions between him and CK. I mean...this is what I'm hoping for, at least!!!

Required fields are marked *

I'm completely with you. I have all the same feelings regarding LDG that many are voicing on the recap, but I also recognize that YWJ is just getting started in this role and he has a lot of time to prove himself. I mean, when you think about it, they haven't even acted opposite each other yet! Next episode will be a game-changer on many fronts, but especially for the brothers.

I have actually reduced the score of Circle from 8 to 7.5 - B grade. 2037 part had pretty loose implementation. And from 4th week show started to drag things. Now everything is on surface so much entitled to fiction. I don't think scriptwriter will answer any of the important questions. I think most kdramas should be around 11-13 episodes.

I'm wondering about pink. I've noticed that Fight for My Way and Suspicious Partner have a pink-coloured theme going. It's not just the advertising, but many scenes tend to have a pink filter. And for Fight for My Way and to a lesser extent Suspicious Partner, there would be scenes where all characters on screen are wearing pink clothing. Yes I understand that colour can set the tone and mood of the show - green or blue undertones effectively creates ominous foreboding. Perhaps pink signifies hope and youth, which I guess makes it appropriate for Fight for My Way. But Suspicious Partner intrigues me - it's a show with more than a few dark moments...so why so pink?

2
4

Required fields are marked *

I honestly think it's just a very popular color in Korean fashion right now - that "millenial pink" shade is huge all over the world, but it seems to have particularly taken hold in S. Korea because so many S. Koreans have that beautiful skin tone that looks phenomenal in lighter shades of pink. It's also definitely a color associated with youth, as you point out - you'll notice that in saeguks it's almost always young women/girls who are wearing light pink - so that might have something to do with its use at least in FFMW, but I have a feeling its current trendiness is probably slightly more responsible for its prevalence in dramas!

That blush pink is a Pantone Color of the Year 2016 (and the one that really "took"), which also helps explain why it's everywhere in 2017. It was forecasted to be huge and that drives decisions by everyone from clothing designers to thread makers (and paint manufacturers).

Glad that I am not the only one who is at awe of his micro-expressions. He never over-exaggerates. I've also noticed that he has excellent control over his voice pitch. Having a musical theatre background and active one at that helps undoubtedly. Most jarring thing is seeing him being totally opposite of his character off screen. He is goofing around all the time, its like he has an on/off button for his characters.

Wow! This has almost been a full week of dramas and I finally have time to catch up. My last test was on Monday so exams are over! This is my personal breakdown so far.
Fight My Way- Dong Man finally confessed to Ae Ra and that KISS! Since things are beginning to be settled, their relationship can fully bloom now! I hope the same goes for Seol Hee and Joo Man since they definitely both have things to figure out before then.
Circle- I'm up to episode 9 and it is blowing my mind. Where did Woo Jin go? I can't believe that Minister Park and Professor Han both succumbed to the evil temptation of the new technology. I know I mentioned it in a different comment, but it really is sad how Jung Yeon's (Byul) simple gesture of giving that little star to Woo Jin turned into a whole experimentation on altering memory.
Suspicious Partner- Yay! Mr. Bang is not dead. The only worrying part is the oxygen flowing to his brain. Also, I wonder who planted the knife in Hyun Soo's kitchen. I know Ji Wook and everyone on the team want to take him down, but who really did it. By the way, did not see that car crash coming.
7 Day Queen- Chae Kyung and Yeok are breaking my hearts. I hope they have a happy ending, although history doesn't turn out that way. No further explanation needed.
The Best Hit- I need it to come out soon. I can't wait.

It's definitely high on my list :)

Definitely Coffee Prince if you haven't seen that yet! Also liked Delightful Girl Chun Hyang (sometimes Sassy Girl Chun Hyang).

Other than that I've only seen the major classics Full House, My Lovely Kim Sam Soon and My Girl, but didn't like any of them, so wouldn't recommend them based on anything subjective. They're all three really famous though with lots of fans, so you might consider giving them a go.

Oh right, Coffee Prince is probably considered a classib by now. I've watched it in the early days of my kdrama obsession and I loved that one as well. I think I started watching Delightful Girl Chun Hyang at some point... but I don't remember finishing it. I might give it another go.

I do remember trying to watch Full House at one point but it just didn't catch my attention and I got distracted by other shows.

2

For me 10 years is the cut-off at least. Since this type of drama isn't that old, I think that's an appropriate time frame. Most seem to consider CP a classic these days :)

What I remember most from Full House is them cleaning and staring into the dark. That took up like 50% of the drama lol.

3

Is the show really that old? I'm pretty sure that I haven't watched the show during its original run. I think I watched it a few years later. Still good. And the romance storyline was very compelling (oh gender-bender... I love you so).

See I didn't even get that far with Full House.

2

Yep, it's a 2007 show! It was my first drama years ago and then the one to get me back into dramas with a fierce passion lol, so it's one I remember fondly :)

Lol trust me, it took a lot of patience and, by the end, fast-forwarding to finish that show...

I loved What's Up Fox! I loved the nutty sister and the Fashion Designer. That's the same writer, I think, as MNIKSS and was his/her next project. There's a much newer show starring the WUF actor, Heart to Heart, that I loved. I often follow actors to new shows based on their DB summations and ratings. And you really can't go wrong with anything the WUF actress does. Have you seen Its Okay It's Love? It's quirky and has great music and great characters in a similar but unrelated way if that makes any sense ?

I'm the same with following actors of a drama series that I loved to their next projects. I think one of the very first dramas that I've watched was Greatest Love/Best Love. I've been following both main leads ever since. Another reason why It's Okay It's Love is on my list. <3

Happy Friday, everyone! Today feels like a momentous day because it's the one year anniversary of my introduction to KDramas. I haven't looked back since, and have passed many hours in pure bliss!!

I've also watched and come to enjoy Chinese, Taiwanese, and Japanese dramas. I even took the initiative to start learning Mandarin because of the dramas (there is no option for Korean where I am).

I introduced KDramas to my sister, who finally gave in after much resistance, fell in love, and has since started taking Korean classes.

Like so many good things have happened just because of KDrama. It's spurred interest in cultures which are so different from mine, but also similar in many ways, and opened avenues for so much discussion with friends about themes and issues we come across in dramas. I come from a multilingual family, but never expected to one day be learning Eastern languages, or learning about Eastern cultures. And my sister and Drama-watching friends have something new to gush about. And then coming on here and reading recaps and comments with such insightful analysis about everything from silliness to life's issues.... Not to mention an appreciation for good storytelling, dramatization and acting, not just for its entertainment value, but for lessons to be learned therein too, and for good craftsmanship. And also an appreciation for having an alternative to seeing only "western" content. I'm gushing and it seems overmuch but it's truly been a wonderful year for me immersing myself in dramas. The whole is truly more than the sum of its parts :)

Happy Friday!

It's been a lazy week for me, as I have been recharging my energy levels after lots of real life stuff going on, which means lots of dramas, yay!

Finished Chicago Typewriter. It's funny how I seem the opposite of other beanies: I loved the first two eps with a passion, but then found my interest quickly waning post that. Possibly because books and writing faded into the background while ghosts and reincarnations became the main thing. But also just really felt it didn't deliver on some aspects like character development. I still have no clue why the two guys became freedom fighters and in the present storyline I was missing more background on Se Ju - it would've been nice to see more of his family or what happened after he left Baek's house. I'm also really missing a resolution to the plagiarism case. I know it's obvious what happened, but I still would've liked to see it, but that's probably just me. Overall I just felt like it was too emotionally driven with no basis for these emotions in real character development and the ghost hijinks mirror countless movies and shows. It's definitely not a bad show, it just turned out much differently and to be much more simple, than I had expected. Good thing: it made me really want to go back and finish SFD and Secret Love Affair sometime soon hehe ^^ And also Go Kyung Pyo being puppy-like is adorable.

Lookout - too many logic fails this week. And Soo Ji puts everyone's lives in danger yet again. I still like it though, overall the plot is good and Do Han/forgot-his-real-name continues to be really intriguing and heartwrenching.

The Best Hit - Still hilarious. That scene with the racoon costume was priceless lol. Also loving how fast the plot moves as I was afraid Hyun Jae would take forever before learning who's son Ji Hoon is and glad that they adressed the 'issue' of whether or not HJ knew JH was a trainee, because that had me scratching the old imaginary beard quite a bit.

Started Ex-Girlfriend Club and really liking it! Had been avoiding it because I think Song Ji Hyo needs some more acting lessons. But the other women and Byun Yo Han completely make up for what she's lacking and the story is hilarious so far! Only at ep 3 though, so no spoilers please! ^^

Picked Entourage back up and just finished ep 6. Not as bored as the first time around somehow? Actually found it kind of funny, so yay!

SP - still not a fan, but last week's eps were fun and I enjoyed them. Can't seem to finish the latest ep though, dunno why. Guess there's just something missing for me. Hope next week will turn out more like last week's eps, but I'm kind of worried they're going to run out of plot, 20 eps seems a bit overkill. 16 eps would've made it a more thrilling show I think.

I feel the same way about Chicago Typewriter. I loved it in the beginning but I slowly started losing interest especially after it got pre-empted twice. I thought something was wrong with me because everyone kept saying how it's the best drama ever and I'm like "eh, I don't know." Lee Bang-won ruined all of Yoo Ah-in's characters for me.

It's funny, because every role I see YAI in, I like him, but don't love him, but also want to see more from him? Like he draws me in, but in a strange, inexplicable way. And except for the little I've seen of Secret Love Affair, his characters all remind me of each other actually, despite them being vastly different "people". SFD, CT, The Veteran - all his roles there had a sort of manic energy to them.

The Best Hit shows that humor is a land of possibilities. If you are creative enough, fresh and new ideas are right there. serious dramas, imo, tend to repeat themselves a lot. but life with crazy situations can always inspire laughs.

Is anyone watching Princess Agents? I absolutely adore ancient CDramas and sageuk (all that fantasy and gorgeous costuming) , and right now, Princess Agents is my kryptonite. Even with the wonky pacing and the absolutely LAUGHABLE CGI in some places (seriously it's so terrible). The fight scene are also sometimes awful (even when allowances are made for it being a wuxia and all). But some of the fight scenes are also beautifully choreographed and reminds me of the saying that fighting is like dancing, and good soldiers will always be good dancers because the intricate moves required are similar. I am in ancient Drama heaven right about now, even with all its flaws. I expect I'll be in even more bliss when I get my hands on The Advisors Alliance.

I watched it a bit and thought it was interesting and i'd like to watch it complete but I am scarred by prince of lan ling (2013) and princess wei young (2016) where they all suffered a lot for a long time before we got to a sort of happy ending. so I'm kind of scared to go past episode 6.

Oh man! I am!! Didnt think to find another watcher on db considering how Princess Agents is sort of um.. not that great (u already mentioned why) but sooo addictive! I'm loving Zanilia Zhao - she does the disingenuous naive girl act so well!

Started watching it cuz females doing martial arts is my absolute catnip (i even watched both seasons of tornado girl cuz of it *cringe).

Quite happy with how fast the storyline is moving - cant wait till we see her get reaal badass fighting against slavery. Also - why is the main lead always a tsundere?!? Why cant the Prince get her?? he is soo cute and adorable! I guess that personality is gonna change soon.. sigh

Warbreaker by Brandon Sanderson. I really enjoyed that book. And I love how Sanderson makes a totally different world, but then follows all the rules (s)he's created for it. It really bugs me when an author/drama makes a fantasy world, gives us the rules, and then breaks them.

Brandon Sanderson is one of my favorite fantasy authors. I have loved everything he has written. I love his writing style and how each series he writes has a super unique magic system. In most fantasy books they just have the power or they search deep and use it type thing. But his books have very unique and different magic systems. I suggest anything by him!

I recommend the book series Throne of Glass and A Court of Thorn and Roses, both by Sarah J. Maas.

Wag_a_Muffin mentioned Brandon Sanderson and I also suggest anything by him.

Also Kushiel's Legacy Trilogies by Jacqueline Carey (an older series but I still love it).

I could spend all day suggesting fantasy books as it's my favorite genre!

As for fantasy dramas I suggest Ten Miles of Peach Blossoms which is a cdrama. It is an epic fantasy romance and so good.

Goblin is a kdrama which is a modern day fantasy that I also love.

I agree with the Guy Gavriel Kay and Jacqueline Carey recommendations. GGK's "Tigana," is a great fantasy to start with...or, my favourite of his, the "Sailing to Sarantium" 2-book series.

Neil Gaiman writes great fantasy, too... but he kinda mixes his genres.

OT week 20! I hope everyone is having a good summer so far. The weather here has been PERFECT, which means lots of sunlight and vitamin D and we live in the US where a good tan is always appreciated, so we’ve been spending a lot of time at the pool and playing golf. Hubby and I won our couples scramble this week and won a whole $20 in golf shop credit! So, after our $10 entry fee, we’re up $10! It’s the small things! AND, during our match, our friends booked our tickets to CANADA, Quebec City, Goblin country, for my birthday! We’ll be going in the Fall. I am super-duper-giddy! *SQUEEE, SQEEE, SQUEE!* Remember the scene where Eun Tak sees her room make-over? That’s me right now!

Otherwise, been watching Circle, still, and am I the only one that is kind of glad that there are only 2 episodes left? The suspense is killing me and I just want to know where this is going!

Watched the second 30 minute episode of My Only Love Song, also with the same actress that plays Byul in Circle, and she’s still yelling and grating on mine and my husband’s nerves a bit. I think we’ll drop it. I much prefer her character in Circle.

Speaking of which, I’ve been 0 for 5 in new dramas to watch with the hubby and I’ve been watching some by myself, which isn’t nearly as fun. I need help! I feel like I’ve been dropped into an all you can eat buffet of kdramas and want to try every genre, while my hubby is stuck in the dessert section. He likes the syrup-y, sweet love story. Boy meets girl, boy falls in love with girl, they go through turmoil that makes their love stronger, and then come back together and live happily ever after. Also, the acting has to be palatable. No yelling in high pitched, banshee-like, tones; that will make him turn it off faster than you can say, “Come on, honey, give it a chance, she won best actress for this role!” Also, no cross-dressing, girls trying to be boys. He likes the ultra-feminine, quintessential pretty girl, innocent, sweet, CANDY! You get my drift. Also, no major psychiatric undertones, as he sees this all day long and would like something where he can’t analyze the main characters or how true to life they are. You think it would be easy to find something, but I’ve not had any luck in the past 4 months. He likes slow, burning love stories too.

And I tried watching Man to Man with him and this is the conversation that ensued:

Hubby: There’s something wrong with Do Ha’s eyes, I can’t put my finger on it.

Me: It looks like she has proptosis (when your eyes come out of your head) like she has Graves’ disease. I wonder if her thyroid has been checked recently.

Hubby: Sorry, I can’t watch this, I’m too distracted by her eyes.

Me: There’s another show called Reply 1997 that just got put on Netflix; should we try that? I don’t know much about it other than the fact that it’s about high school aged kids and there’s a whole series spin off.

Hubby: You’ve being batting 0 for...

a million on dramas that I’d like lately.
Me: *Frustrated look* Let’s just go to sleep then.
*Later that night, me trying to sleep, and guess what hubby is watching on his phone???*
Me: You’re watching Episode 16, I can hear them saying their vows.
Hubby: No, I’m not. *Rolls to other side of bed.*
Me: Yes, you are. Please let me sleep. *Trying to drift away to slumberland*
*Hearing Gong Yoo wailing in tears.*
Me: Why are you watching the part after she dies?
Hubby: I’m not.
Me: OHMYGOD YOU ARE.
Hubby: You’ll never find me another kdrama as good.
Moral of the Story: The challenge is set. Please help!
2nd Moral: I still love Goblin, but sometimes I like sleep more!
3rd Moral: I should turn 40 more often so that I can go to Canada!

Hmmmm. I realise I hardly like dramas with Candy characters- You're Beautiful being an exception.

I was gonna suggest Beautiful Gong Shim but she ain't exactly a candy, and then Thank You- but your husband might get turned off by the medical slant (it's a heartwarming story about a single mom whose child contracts HIV)

So how about a Taiwanese drama? I loved Just You with Aaron Yan and Puff Guo in it. But then again I don't think the girl is a candy either. ?

I give up. Lol. Looks like you might be doomed to listening to Goblin at night for a while still. ?

Dramas with Candy heroines...
I second TW drama "Just You"-the main female lead is always positive person, even to the evil second lead.
I'd also try "Fated to Love You" Korea version-total Candy heroine there.
You might like "Bride of the Century" as well-it's total fluff drama so no psychological stuff, and the female lead is really sweet.
The drama that for me has the most candy like heroine is "Secret" starring Ji Sung and Hwang Jung Eum, but that is a total dark twisted melodrama.
You may want to check out TW dramas
"Autumn's Concerto" and "Loving, Never Forgetting"- they're more melodrama than rom com but both have sweet Candy heroines.
My favorite cute romcoms like Weighlifting Fairy Kim Bok Ju, Strong Woman Do Bong Soon, Oh My Ghostess, and Marriage Not Dating unfortunately do not have Candy heroines, but I encourage you to check them out if your husband ever changes his mind and is willing to explore other types of characters, because the romances were very sweet.

I have been going through the recap list for ideas, and I must not like Candy stories; these are the only ones I have seen and have liked enough to file away in my "classics" folder; they are also psychiatry-free, I think.

- Best Love: idol has-been heroine, I think she counts as a Candy; I don't have a very firm grasp of the concept :-p . But they had me from the very first scene.

- Jealousy Incarnate: also with Gong Hyo-jin, and also a Candy-ish character. Avoid perhaps if you are particularly sensitive to cancer plots, but the comedy is genius, and Jo Jung-suk deserved all the awards in existence for that role. I have to rewatch it soon :-).

- City Hunter: Nana is the absolute Candy; I am less enamoured of the male hero since Healer showed me better. Just watch both :-p

About Reply 1997, coincidentally I have just finished it. I liked it less than I thought I would after reading so many comments over the years, but it was ok; if nothing else, there's baby Seo In-guk :-). But I liked Reply 1988 better. One advantage, though, is that episodes are about 40 minutes, rather than 90-120...

Will try to think of others...

And Ohmygoodness!! Goblin/Gong Yoo love lives on in your family. It's hilariously cute! Gong Yoo better come out with a new drama for you guys. hehe! If your hubby isn't into cross-dressing/gender-bender, then I assume he did not see Coffee Prince, which would be a shame because that one's real good. As much as I like Kim Shin, I love Choi Hangyul. Gong Yoo is good overall, but I personally love his portrayal in Coffee Prince more than in Goblin.

I am blanking out on recommendations. I thought of WFKBJ except Bokjoo's not your quintessential pretty, innocent, sweet girl, but the love story here is very very nice.

Hmmm finding one with no pyschiatric stuff seems like a challenge, so many characters have "traumas", phobias, anxiety etc, so I can see why you're finding it difficult!

I was thinking of Tomorrow's Cantabile, but there's the whole water-phobia, which isn't that major though and the female lead might not fit that description up above except for innocent. Also then there's one of the characters who has a physical issue, so if the eye-thing was an issue, would this be too?

Playful Kiss maybe? It's kind of cute, especially if you like sugary sweet romance.

Surplus Princess or My Secret Romance, but they were both hot messes.

Shopping King Louis or My Girlfriend is a Gumiho, if you haven't seen them already. They're both really good :)

You may have already seen them all, but thought I'd give it a shot! :)

Hi Everyone!

I hope you are all doing well today. ...... I continue to enjoy everyone's comments on the Fan Walls!

Watched this week:

Whisper - Finally finished watching this! ..... Absolutely loved the last episode's nod to the writer's previous drama Punch! It was so unexpected and definitely a great surprise.

Fight My Way - Seol-hee's Dad's had the quote of the week for me with his, "Don't give your telephone number to people you need to ignore." ..... And I mentioned this in the recap comments, but I'll repeat it here ---- I think Joo-man and Seol-hee need to break up, perhaps permanently.

Seven Day Queen - Just keeps getting better and better! ..... Myung-hye though, what's really motivating her, the cause or the jealousy? I think we all know the answer to this one. ...... Those scenes with Lee Dong-gun as the king, oh so good.

Suspicious Partner - Ok, it's official, I'm on the Ji Chang-wook bandwagon! Again. ....... I have to say I'm a bit curious of the whole color scheme in this drama. Particularly the clothes. The soft colors. It's all quite interesting.

My Sassy Girl - I wanted to give this a chance, so I watched a little bit of this, but I'm afraid things are not going to work out. I think I just wasn't in the mood. Perhaps I'll try again at a later time.

That's all for now. Everyone take care and have a great Friday!

I'm a little behind on Fight My Way, but I actually think it would be nice if Joo-Man and Seol-hee did permanently break up because that is the reality of so many young love relationships. Yes, many survive and thrive but just as many lose steam and people move on. That's life. I think this bit of reality would be refreshing to see in a drama rather than the young-love-must-conquer-all we generally get.

Regarding Fight My Way, I agree. It's not that they're bad, awful people or anything like that, but a breakup seems like the way to go. ..... Of course, this is dramaland and who knows what the writer has planned. We shall see.

Regarding Suspicious Partner, yes, the color pink! I saw your comment a little while ago. Its presence in the drama is subtle enough to not be distracting, but it is present enough that you do become aware of it after a while. It is quite interesting how that pale pink is used.

The Big Hit: (or whatever it is called) is probably my favorite right now because I laugh out loud at some point during this drama week after week.

Suspicious Partner: I'm a few behind but I find myself curious how the cheating scenario is going to play out with the friends. I actually wish they'd had the gal come back and not originally be such a witch because I think after making such a huuuuuge mistake, I understand her leaving just not her attitude when she returned. I think if I was the guy cheated on, it would be hard to day in and day out see my best friend who betrayed me. So it is interesting that I think they are trying (and succeeding) in making him (yep I really cannot remember anyone's name) sympathetic, but I actually think he should have made himself scarce for a while. He stayed close for his own regret and his own shame which is about him, not about his friend. So this scenario is an interesting story for me.

I actually find myself less interested in killers and what not than in this dynamic which I don't generally see in dramas. What to do when people you care about make a horrible mistake but really regret it? Do you forgive but never forget? Do you never forgive? Do us viewers let it slide because the best friend cheater is so sad and regretful? I like that they showed the ramifications of the cheating with the comment from our guy, " I was worried I wouldn't be enough". Being betrayed sticks with a person, man or woman.

On a happier note, the lead couple are so sweet together and knowing what they've both been through make it so much sweeter to see them together.

I have thought a lot about it, but I think Eun Hyuk is not doing it for his own sake, sticking around. He is doing it because Ji Wook got disappointed and felt he has lost the love of both his friends, but Eun Hyuk is tryign to make JW see he is more important to him than the girl, even if he has a crush.

Whoever chose that thumbnail/pic for the Open Thread this week is awesome.

I'm really loving older dramas these days a bit more than newer ones. There tends to be a rawness there that newer ones lack. I feel like newer ones feel sanitised in a way. I'm not even talking about dramas ten years ago like Dal-ja's Spring. I recently watched Panda and Hedgehog and while there was nothing outrageous in that show, there was a scene in there that showed the OTP sharing some snuggle time. Sure, this is nothing new, and it was definitely brief, but it felt like one of the few natural aspects of a relationship that many dramas are missing dramas these days. And yes, I know that South Korea is a conservative society, but I find it crazy that I get all happy when skin-ship is done well. The only recent ones last year and this year that I think come close are 1% of Something and Tomorrow With You.

P.S. I would say that

I agree that some display of affection beween lovers adds warmth to the realtionship portrayal. It isn't enough just to say the expected words. Showing that a character has feelings for another character can't just be applying bandaids, holding umbrellas and putting shoes on their feet. When you love someone, you want to touch them when they are close by. That was what was cute about the Weightlifting Fairy couple- all that playful affection.

I'm sensing a drama slump coming *sprinkles salt around me to guard away drama slump spirits*

Forest of Secret is my new-found delight. I've made a mental note to watch more of Jo Seung-Woo's works after this.

I've just binged through the first half of Circle and am enjoying myself a lot. I don't think Circle is heavy on the sci-fi aspects. Rather, it borrows the sci-fi backdrop to explore ethical questions. I remember someone asking why the people in Circle don't seem to be interested in Byul's long-lasting youthful look and considers it a potential miss point of the drama. Well, I haven't watched everything yet but the simple answer is that the research team in question specialise in neurosciences and obviously we can't expect them to suddenly switch their interest to genetics. I work in academia as well and if I have a chance meeting with Byul and have the opportunity to study her own language or her acquisition of a certain language on Earth there's no way I'd give her up to another scientist from another branch of science to study her, not until I've finished with my own research. Hardcore scientists who live for their research are oftentimes concerned only with what they're doing and don't usually pay attention to other things people are obsessed with outside of their own field. If the research team in the drama suddenly switch their interest to the question of immortality and long-lasting youth and beauty that would be a plot hole for sure. Just sayin' ?.

I've dropped Ruler but read from comments elsewhere that Ga-Eun has unleashed her rage onto the CP. I'd say go for it girl! She's the only one who doesn't know a thing about the CP not being the one personally executing her own father, and was in love with said person for 5 years with him hiding his true identity from her. Please don't hate on the poor girl. She has every reason to feel hatred towards him for the time being.

"Forest of Secret" is above the rest of the cable shows that I'm watching.
Jo Seung-woo played a prosecutor before in "Inside Men." It had great reviews and was successful in the box-office.
I'm glad he picked Forest Secret because I can watch it comfortably (no language and less violence).

I stopped chasing "Circle" and "Duel" with my ridiculous theories so I'm just going to sit back and enjoy it.

I can't seems to really get into any of the 3 sageuks despite loving the genre.
It's a shame for Ruler because I was really looking forward to Kim So-hyun being a lead in one. I wish she did more sageuks when she was younger too.

I would've watch Sassy Girl if it was a sageuk and not a sometimes half and half. I think sageuk parodies works best in short 2 eps dramas like Hyang Dan.
7 Day Queen: Historically, I don't care for the two brothers. I'm more interested in the women in their lives who fell from grace because of these two incompetent psychos.

I agree with you re. FoS. It's in a different league from the other shows I'm watching right now for sure, both cable and mainstream. I'll check out Inside Men for sure. Thank you for the recommendations :D.

I'm still waiting to get over Kim Jung-Eun's face and Deuk-Cheon's violence to get into the drama. I've gotten over things like that before so waiting is the best bet for me to let go of my pet peeves and just enjoy the story. Circle is delicious and I'm not there for the sci-fi anyway, so so far it hasn't disappointed me.

I know what you mean by not getting into the three sageuks. I'm particularly disappointed in Ruler because I held so much hope for KSH. The story actually has potential plot-wise but the writing and execution fall short. I watched a short clip of the scene between her and the CP when the truth was finally out and could only wish the show had made the most of her talent earlier on, because it shows in that scene that she could do so much better.

I don't know much about the two brothers in 7DQ in history, so fortunately my enjoyment of the show isn't marred by the ugly historical truth. I don't think 7DQ would stay true to history since everything is clearly seen more in a romantic light. I consider it more like a melodramatic version of Moonlight. Looks like this one is going all fusion so I guess there'll be less focus on Queen Shin too. Probably that's why it doesn't appeal to those who love more traditional sageuks :D.

"Marathon" and "The Classic" are two of my favorite Jo Seung-woo films.
I watched some of his musicals too and I've always felt that his heart is always on stage because he keeps going back despite having a successful film career.

Yes, forget the ugly history and enjoy 7 Day Queen. The way it ends in history can be interpreted in different ways.
I'm sure the writers we'll come up with the best conclusion to their story.

I've been digging through Wikia for a list of his past works :D. I've been missing out a lot because FoS is the first drama that I've seen of him. I've heard that Jekyll and Hyde was one of his best works too but don't know where I can see his musicals. Popular drama sites don't seem to have them subbed or even available to watch. Did you see them on DVDs or on the Internet?

The best conclusion to 7DQ love story would be to stick to history :P. I don't mind sad/tragic ending if it is done well, and I really hope 7DQ would at least stick to history re. the ending. I haven't cried watching anything in a while so I welcome a good eye-wash XD.

Hello :)

I was wondering something this week and I wanted to ask it here: which are the couple of your dreams in a drama? I mean, which actors would look great together in your opinion.

One of the ones I thought is Kim Go Eun and Go Kyung Pyo :)

Can I ask for bromance couples I want? ?

Gong Yoo and Park Bo Gum (since Bogum seems to be trying to emulate Gong Yoo's hair lately. But he really needs to hire Gong Yoo's stylist)

Song Joong Ki and Park Bo Gum (because Blossom! Come on guys, I'm sure you can make this happen!)

Gong Yoo and Kim Jae Wook (because now they are under the same management! Come on! Pls pls pls!)

Yoo Ah In and Park Hyung Sik (because they just did a coffee CF together and I can't not want more more more!)

And Jang Hyuk and Heo Jun ho (because they were awesome together in Beautiful Mind and I want to see them in another drama that doesn't get cut short ?)

And I still have that Goblin sageuk in my head where Park Bogum plays the adult version of the very first Yoo family member who served Shin. hehe!

Every time I see an actor who is just killing it I decide that I *need* to see him in a drama with Ji Sung. Because I am obsessed with Ji Sung (even though I never manage to finish his dramas....one day) right now I want to see a massive drama with Ji Sung and Park Bo Gum and Seo In Guk (like I Remember You but with Ji Sung) and after watching Ji Chang Wook I want him to join the party....and you know, both male leads from Chicago Typewriter and I've gotta stop because I'll go on forever. But, you can't tell me that wouldn't be an awesome show. They could all just...stand there and emote at each other and I'd be...yeah. Right in the feels, guys.

So many dream couples I don't know where to begin.

Yeo Jin-goo and Park Bo-young: Bo-young is probably Jin-goo's biggest celebrity noona fan. If her wish comes true mine will be too.
Kim Hyang-gi and Yeo Jin-goo as brother and sister: He reminds me of her and she reminds me of him and they are both so talented.
Han Ye-ri and Song Joong-ki: They almost work together in "Haemoo" aka "Sea Fog" but Joong-ki enlisted and had to decline.
Choi Min-soo and Go Hyun-jung in an epic Goguryeo era sageuk.
Seo Ji-hye and Kim Moo-yeol in a sageuk or crime thriller.
Noh Young-hak and Park Eun-bin in a sageuk.
Kim Sae-ron and Nam Da-reum in a High school drama.
Im Joo-hwan in a lead role with Honey Lee in a sageuk with a better wig for the prince.
Yoo Ah-in and Jung Yumi in a Noh Hee-kyung drama.
Han Suk-kyu and Kim Hee-ae
Kim Ok-bin and Jang Hyuk
Lee Jun-ki and Kang Han-na
Kim Go-eun and Lee Je-hoon in a movie
Jo Jung-suk and Son Ye-jin

Park Bogum with Park Boyoung/Kim Jiwon/Chae Soobin/Kim Taeri

Kang Sora with Lee Jongsuk (they deserve to be the OTP)/Im Siwan/Ji Changwook/Seo Inguk

Gong Yoo with Son Yejin (this I am really wishing hard to see in a drama)/Seo Hyunjin/Gong Hyojin/Yoon Eunhye/Song Hyegyo/Kim Jiwon/Ha Jiwon... I have so many dream pairings for this oppajusshi haha! Sadly, he ain't coming back to K-dramaland in the near future. Sigh.

I'm a remake junkie. I love to see how other countries can remake a story and build upon the source material. Admittedly, I've seen several versions of Playful Kiss. I don't why I enjoy the same story of a "dumb" girl winning the heart of a smart jerk of a guy. Right now, I'm following Princess Hours: Thailand. I must say I'm not impressed. The problem with the Thai version of Princess Hours is that they cut out much of the parents/political drama and stringed the OTP's storyline together in what almost seems to be rapid succession.

Goong is one of my all time favorite K-dramas because the characters are so well portrayed. One of my biggest complaints about K-dramas is that the portrayals can feel superficial. The characters don't always feel rooted/grounded in the situation. A major catastrophe can happen and the characters will minimally react. The Liar and His Lover was filled with moments where I found myself asking, "Does she not grasp the severity of the situation?" In Goong, the actors made everything seem so pressing and the angst was palpable. The viewer wanted to know if those two kids were ever going to get it together.

I'm not sure if the lack of weight is due to the way K-dramas are filmed (the live filming and script writing on the spot) or if it's the intended audience. Maybe it depends on the chemistry between the actors? I don't know. But I look forward to shows that I can really immerse myself in and really be transported into the story. I think Suspicious Partner is doing a great job of that. After all, isn't that what makes for a good show? I think what I'm trying to put my finger on is what makes a show addictive?

true sometimes they are like a book with a few pages torn. SP is quite well grounded and characters reach plausible conclusions in many things. but I guess for the sake of better flowing storyline a lot of the deeper and more intricate inner works get skipped over

TW's Playful Kiss was one of my favorite drama in high school, it even made me go to their fanmeets and all. How does the new remake goes?

I hope Korea remade it instead of TW because their version is disappointing, but then I don't know if I can root for another candy character in this age.

Even I can't stand Gong Hyo Jin's character in Jealousy Incarnate even though this was one of my favorite Kdramas last year.

The Thai Playful Kiss is called Kiss Me and, objectively speaking, it's better than the Korean version. The writers gave the characters a backstory and gave the lead female character a learning disability instead of her being dumb. The characters are much more human and the show feels just like two kids trying to figure out what love means.

The kiss in FIS is crap = K2 ramen scene.
But ppl are sticking stick they onto they are bro-sis opera.
Isn't bro-sis pair pretty similar to Childhood friend-to-Love scenario?
Just because they share same parents it becomes gross?
In one of the open threads we talked about -Uncontrollably Fond's Step sis crush on Hero. At that time scarlet something was going on too.
Once side - Love is pure and mighty force and on other hand Big Brother NO?
Thankfully a lot of japanese content always deals with this scenario.
In FIS it is all to create some big drama. That's it. Cheap Tactic.

Greetings from Bangkok! On a short holiday and it's been fun. Food is awesome and shopping is always good. ?

Random fact: did you know Bangkok's real name is the longest in the world??? It's actually "Krung Thep Mahanakhon Amon Rattanakosin Mahinthara Ayuthaya Mahadilok Phop Noppharat Ratchathani Burirom Udomratchaniwet Mahasathan Amon Piman Awatan Sathit Sakkathattiya Witsanukam Prasit" ? ? ? I think I'll stick with good ol' Bangkok ?

Anyone who is going here with kids- we found an awesome mall with a water park above it- it's fabulous fun and the kids can go to town while the adults eat and shop to their heart's content.

Sadly haven't watched much except I did manage to catch the first 2 episodes of Seven Day Queen and up to date with Circle but I have got all my thoughts down on my blog if anyone wants to here me rave and vent!

Hmmm good question. The one thing I know for sure, is that I would make sure to include things they wouldn't expect, if that makes sense. Even though most people in my country have no idea what Kpop or kdrama is, the minute I say I listen to Korean music and watch Korean TV they think of 1) Gangnam Style and 2) soap opera-style shows.

So maybe for kpop something like the more rap/hiphop songs too? That's pretty relevant too, because those genres are really trendy in kpop these days.
And for dramas maybe something like a (not too disturbing) scene from a crime show a la Bad Guys, the hallucination stuff from It's Okay I Love You or some of the cool stuff from W.

I think what I'm getting at, is that maybe choose something where you make sure that it both shows how Korean culture is different as well as how it's familiar?
My examples above would probably also be good if the audience also happens to include boys, not just girls.

Happy Friday everyone!

Cheese in the Trap Just finished this and I loved it. However, I was not a fan of the ending. I wont spoil anything for those who haven't seen it but it left me with a big wtf. One of my most hated tropes is the break-up/separation trop (the noble idiot being the other one which usually ties in with the separation trop). And the whole reasoning and how the drama tied it together was very unsatisfactory. Overall I absolutely loved the first 12 episodes and it's sad that the last 4 were so poorly handled.

Strong Woman Do Bong-Soon I finally finished the last 3 episodes. I probably have a very unpopular opinion but this is officially in my top 5 for most disliked kdramas. So here is my rant. It was so so poorly written. The super adorable romance was the only redeeming factor for this mess which is about 30% of the whole drama. The rest was pointless, poorly written fillers, poor pacing, plots that never went anywhere, undeveloped characters, unfunny slap-stick humor and so on. The resolution for Min-Hyuk's stalker was extremely underwhelming and his family never even shows up again. It was a poorly veiled plot device. They served their purpose and that's that I guess. Kook-Doo's whole character was he was a cop, he had no other depth to him then that. You had huge segments of the drama following inconsequential characters, like the gangsters, and then little time spent on actual characters like Bong-Ki or Kook-Doo. The villain had as much depth as a puddle on a sidewalk. Never explained anything behind his character. The drama couldn't decide on its genre as it went from super dark thriller to over-the-top slap-stick humor which made for a very jarring watch. The rules behind Bong-Soon's power worked only to fit the plot so there was no consistency. She had hurt multiple people with her powers (innocent ones also) but when she hurts an innocent by accident she loses her powers simply because it fit the plot. I could go on but I'll spare everyone and stop there.

PHS and PBY were great in it. And the romance was super adorable. Maybe if I used fast forward I would have liked it more (and it would have cut the drama from 16 episodes to 5).

There are some dramas which are bad and you know they are bad but for whatever reason you still like it. Diary of a Night Watchman is one of those dramas for me. It isn't a good drama, and I know it's not a good drama, but for whatever reason I liked it and enjoyed it.

I feel you about SWDBS except I exited really earl on. I dropped it after watching Episode 2. The suspense/thriller and rom-com genres did not mesh well for me. It felt way too jarring. And then I began to see people commenting about how that did not improve and then there's the problematic and insulting threads in the story.

Happy Midsummer! From now on the days will get shorter!

Work has been taking most of my time, haven't had time to watch much kdrama or jdorama.
Some doramas that I've been watching when I have the time is Mi wo Tsukushi Ryoricho which has these adorable cooking segments after the show. Kodoku no gurume, I just love that show even though it makes me really hungry.
Not much kdrama wise, watching father is strange which I'm enjoying quite a lot.
Also just read that Kutsuna Shiori has been cast in Deadpool 2 and I'm very curious who she's going to portray (some guesses I've read are Armous or Lady Deathstrike)

In sadder news, Kobayashi Mao passed away today. She was married to kabuki actor Ichikawa Ebizo. She was only 34. He had a press conference today which is heartbreaking to watch. Apparently she quickly took a turn for the worse and died surrounded by her husband and 2 small children.
Mao was one of the BBC's 100 Women in 2016 as she openly blogged about her battle with cancer.

Watching:
- Circle (This show is amazing. Koreans must not love SF w/ the poor ratings);
- Fight My Way (This show cracks me up at least 3-4x per ep, hope the camera stops wobbling);
- Lookout (SooJi took a break from kicking butt this week, which disappointed me. Show has lost all logic);
- Suspicious Partner (Hello, Makjang, my old friend. *sigh*);
- Duel (I really just want that shower)

Non KDrama
- Game of Thrones season 4 - The death of Oberyn Martell remains one of the most disappointing moments of the series because he was JUST. SO. AWESOME. Related note: DID YOU SEE THAT TRAILER!?!
- Orphan Black - Wherein we decide to let children make all the important decisions.
- NBA Draft - Timberwolves win! Huzzah! GSW still smarter than everyone else buying an underrated guy who is a perfect fit in the second round.
- Doctor Who - Must catch up soon.
- US Politics - WTF is wrong with the GOP? Throwing 25M people off health care so rich folks can have a tax cut + restoring medical bankruptcy by gutting protections for pre-existing conditions + making a bill that is a NET NEGATIVE on JOBS. How do these men still have jobs?

the last months has been absolutely crazy, i handed in a big report thus ending the asian drama ban and was looking forward to binging so many series, started with Ten miles of peach blossom and was 1/3 in the series when kissasian suddenly had a server malfunction so i started watching chief kim on viki, then crazy enough, my friend's wedding was coming up and her dress got lost in the mail, 12 days before the wedding (it wasn't a traditional wedding just a small ceremony and reception) so i basically spent days shopping with her (we found a dress, aswell as figured out nails, hairs and makeup, and found a henna artist , bit of indian custom in a western wedding :) ), in between the craziness, i got a call for an interview and went through the second round (which i passed!), the wedding happened without a glitch, the same day i get a call to go for a third round at the company (i applied in a consultancy agency and thus now it was an interview for a project at one of their clients) which i spent a week prepping , inbetween still trying to watch some series, got pretty far with chief kim, went for the interview last monday and yesterday i got the call that they want me, i need to give a decision next week, 0_0, so i am 80% sure i want to start there, it's an unique and huge opportunity but i am wondering if maybe there is something else out there? anyone have tips of knowing when to go for it? (even though you can never be sure)

between all of the hecticness, i still managed to watch :
*chief kim, i loved it, especially the interaction between chief kim and director seo, aswell as the whole team, it's been a while since i laughed so hard
* the 100 season 5, anyone else who watched it? Octavia is my fav character and the season finale felt a bit like deus ex machina but i'm really looking forward to the next season
* the americans season 5, currently binging it, halfway through, this is probably one of the best american tv series ever! like seriously,if you like layers and spy stuff and depth of pshychological struggles, go watch it

if you got to the end of my post, thank you for reading! i love binging series and now i'm deciding what to watch next, beanies, please give me some advice on what to watch next! pretty please???
Legion, W-2 worlds, strong woman do bong soon, man x man, radiant office, chicago typewriter, Ten miles of peach blossom, when a snail fall in love - are what i'm considering at the moment,

I loved the couple in Strong Woman but thought the show was a hot mess, most people didn't mind looking beyond that ?

For knowing when to "go for it", I try two thought exercises. One is, if it were my best friend (sister, etc), what would I tell her to do? How would I help and advise her with the decision?
The second is more effective for me, it's to think seriously about how will I feel after I say yes and how that will play out in my life. Then I do the reverse, figure out how I'll feel after I say no and what that will mean in my life. This works in all kinds of situations from schools to boyfriends to cars and nail color LOL. Seriously, sometimes this immediately lays bare an anxiety I didn't know existed or a comfort level that's so obvious I'd missed it. Sometimes it's a little more work to get to the answer.
Your opportunity sounds really exciting and I wish you the best with your decision!

Hi @bbstl !
thank you! it was busy and hectic but seeing the bride at the wedding made everything worth it
i loved the bromance in Chief Kim! it's nice that it isn't always about the romance:) thank you for the suggestions, my taste is broad though, i can watch any series as long as 1)i like the leads 2) logic doesn't fail too many times 3) the story engages me :)

thank you for the advice! i think the scariest thing is getting to switch fields, i am biologist and then suddenly getting accepted in a junior IT program (in an insurance company) sounds amazing (IT is my second passion) and terrifying (what if i fail?) at the same time, but my gut is saying more and more, just go for it, get the experience and the chance to do something completely crazy and switch fields , i think i need to be crazy daring :) thank you, really, i feel less confused now

you seem like a super friend to do all that.
btw you cannot binge Chicago Typewriter really, that one needs to be taken slow, it is no fast food. it needs some air inbetween. and Strong Woman DBS is impossible to binge cause you stop and squeal every 5 seconds. it is just too much.
Radiant Office is really cute, light, lovely and slips by like a breeze. if you want to binge, binge on that. it is like a piece of straberry cheesecake.

hi @redfox!
That's what friends are for right? ;)
thanks for the advice! i almost never live-watch ( i simply don't have the time or patience for it) so i binge series when they finish (sometimes even years later),
basically if i start Chicago Typewriter, i just need to alternate it with Strong WomanDBS and i should be okay :D
Radiant office will be after an emotional tough series i guess :)
yum strawberry cheesecake, damn, now i want dessert and i have none at home :(

Hi Sia. It sounds to me like you are very keen on the IT opportunity and that the company also wants you to work for them. This consultancy work is usually more project based so it maybe that you are attracted to that type of work. It is interesting that you also had an interview with the company's client because when I worked for an IT company they were always looking for consultants who had good people skills and who could represent the company well on site (as well as having the necessary technical skills). You shouldn't be afraid to interview the prospective employer to check they are the best fit for you and if your current employer knows you are considering a change you could discuss opportunities with them. Personally, I've always preferred project work and prefer this to a more routine role. I have changed course a few times and there's always some skills and experiences to take with you. Hope this helps.

it does help! thank you :) i am indeed keen on the IT opportunity, it's not a true consultancy in the sense that if me and the client are a good match, the client takes over the contract (which is one of the reasons why i applied to the consultancy company in the first place), i think i'm just going to go for it, even if it doesn't completely work out, atleast, i have gained experience in something other than the academic world, i keep on forgetting that this career course isn't set in stone, i can always change if needed :) thanks for the advice!

Dear Beanies ,

My aunt is going through some major life tragedies right now. I want to recommend some dramas to help distract her at least a little bit. Please can you recommend some insanely funny dramas that contain no death, violence, cancer or other terminal illnesses. I'm hoping that the dramas would be so funny, she'd have no choice but to laugh a bit. Thanks in advance.

oh that´sawful to hear. but do you think dramas might help? and are funny ones the right choice? sometimes, when a person is very upset, they cry even at the funny and some people need to see something relatable, even with a heavy theme. perhaps some variety then, or a music show? music always heals my soul. it kind of rearranges the chaotically jumping molecules in me

I don't know about Strong Woman Do Bong-soon honestly...it might be funny but there is still a psycho killer that kidnaps woman, that doesn't really fit the no-violence point...

Ahh J Drama: We married as a job, Nodame Cantabile, Hotaru No Hikari 1& 2 (J drama with its wacky sense of humor).
I want to recommend more but comedy is not my favorite genre.

As my little nephew would say, jeezopete! This is a tough challenge. I even went through the DB recap list and almost everything has at least a touch or more of violence, death or suicide ?. I may be forgetting sad parts in these but I came up with 1% of Anything (the new one), Beautiful Gong Shim, Chief Kim (just a little scary stuff at the beginning?), HS King of Savvy, She was Pretty, Witch's Romance, Marriage not Dating, Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok Joo. For something not hilarious but completely engrossing, Misaeng. And I've read the High Kick shows are really funny?
This hits close to home to a recent experience in my own family and I hope you'll find some shows that will help your aunt feel better ?

Careful about High kick through the roof, I don't want to spoil it but I probably wouldn't recommend it here.

I second Marriage not Dating. It's funny and comfortable...I don't remember anything really bad happening in that one.

Oh right, now I recall people saying the last High Kick had a tragic end. Eeeek. Thanks for pointing that out.

Unstoppable High Kick is worth watching. It has some funny and touching moments. Jung Il-woo does a great job as a high school student that falls for his teacher. One of his better roles.

I too, have avoided High Kick Through The Roof because I heard that they kill two of charcters off.

I highly recommend Best Hit, the only problem is that the show hasn't ended but man, this show is hilarious. Possibly the funniest kdrama I've watched in my entire history of watching.

Or what about variety shows like Running Man or Infinity Challenge?

I hope your aunt gets better soon.

How about making her watch variety shows instead? Season 2 of Unnies Slam Dunk was really hilarious. Every episode was a riot. The cast had great chemistry as well.

Oh, I'd like to support at least sometimes changing the banner if rotating isn't possible in the new format? I do really miss seeing the fabulous headers Beanies have made ???

I've noticed this before but have always been curious why any new crop of dramas coming out usually revolve around the same topic/storyline idea. Most recently (I am going to botch up these drama names horribly because I can't tell them apart yet): "Are you human too?" with seo kang joon and "New worlds? Future world?" plus "Circle" all have sci-fi, futuristic, robot/alien themes. Just last summer/fall we had Scarlet Heart and Hwarang both with multiple guys set in the past. A few years ago, Hyun Bin's Jekyll and Ji Sung's Kill me, Heal me both had multiple personality disorders. For me it can sometimes get very confusing reading the casting news on which show is which. Korean shows must be like fashion trends. Whatever the season, there will be a new fashion statement to create and debut.

I always wonder too. And it's not like one similar drama following another successful same-themed drama, but usually 2 or 3 dramas will be out in similar time with the same theme.

I swear they all must have gone to the same shaman on the start of new year ??

“This year is going to be a good year for dramas about strong woman, and don't forget to put their character name in the title!“

Weightlifting Fairy fails in terms of rating but Strong Woman DBS was a hit.

“I see lots of pretty boys in saeguk costume in romcom settings“

Thus comes Hwarang, Moon Lover, Moonlight.

Looks like I'm late to the OT. Anyway, I've been catching up on the dramas I missed recently (I didn't watch anything from the LOTBS-WFKNJ-Oh My Geumbi line up until March) and I'm almost done catching up save for TLAHL which takes me almost 2 hours to finish because of the comments!!! Anyway, I haven't watched night light and man to man yet, are they any good?

Also on to other topics, what Drama OSTs do you have on your playlist?
My favorites are Chicago Typewriter, Tomorrow with You, My Wife's Having an Affair This Week, and Dear My Friends and a few Uncontrollably Fond!!
