Drama viewership ratings for the week of June 5-11, 2017

If you’d asked me which show I would’ve bet on to be on top of the ratings game in the beginning of the week, I’m not quite sure I would’ve picked Fight My Way—not because it’s not delightful (it’s so fun!), but because the hype from My Sassy Girl seemed poised to engulf everything else airing in that time slot, for better or worse.

And though My Sassy Girl is nowhere near a hit, it’s surprisingly not dead in the water either, leaving all three Big 3 shows fairly evenly matched. While Circle saw a small jump to 2.3%, the middle of the week isn’t revealing many surprises, with Seven Day Queen bringing up the rear at an underwhelming 6.5%. Ruler seems safe in first place, though it’s not necessarily pulling in hit making numbers at 12.2%, while Suspicious Partner hovered just under 10%. Maybe it’ll break double digits next week, if people continue to keep tuning out of Seven Day Queen.

As for the weekend shows, Man to Man ended its run at a very respectable 4.0%, while relative newbie The Best Hit saw a decent jump between its Friday and Saturday episodes. Forest of Secrets, tvN’s newest cable offering, started off with a pretty good 3.0% for its time slot. How it’ll fare going forward is anyone’s guess at this point, but I’m sure tvN must be itching to get their hands on another hit.

It's funny how the ratings rise at the second half of the drama. I mean, can they actually juggle two dramas at once? ???

Correction: SP might just hit the double digits if Ruler continues losing viewers. Seven Day Queen actually gained viewers from episode 2, although its ratings are still low.

I wonder if 8% is too much to ask for 7DQ :P. It's not by any means outstanding but it's not too bad either. Something to cheer the cast and crew on and give the writer and production team incentive to continue producing artful pieces of work. This may not belong to the classic/ epic/ old school type of sageuks but within the genre of romantic sageuk it's been promising so far.

10% seems like a distant dream. *sigh*

That said, I'm really glad they increased for the third episode and kept that number for the for the fourth. There's been good buzz for the latest ep, and I hope it translates to an increase next week. Even hitting 7% will make me a happy beanie.

I'll be stoked if it reaches 10%.
However more than the increase in ratings, which is definitely a yummy bonus, I just hope the quality will remain the same, or increase despite the ratings. That's like the most important thing to me :D.

I do hope the show finds its footing in the ratings game once the adults have settled in. It's not a complete flop - recent KBS dramas have rated far worse at under 5% - but a part of me fears KBS might cut the number of episodes as sageuks are expensive to produce.

6

That's what I fear the most too. I hope KBS won't ever have to resort to that solution. I miss the time when dramas such as Hello Monster (I Remember You) could keep its total episode count despite the abysmal ratings. Its writer went on to write Suspicious Partner, which is another cute show though less suspenseful and interesting than its precedent. Judging how SP is doing, I hope the writer for 7DQ would be encouraged to do the same thing and produce quality work without having to be too heavily affected by the ratings for their first work.

4

I don't think Queen will do a Beautiful Mind, since that one didn't even get to 5%, sigh. Maybe it's just a slow starter and viewers are waiting for the adults to come on properly.

I do wonder though if there's a slight "Yeonsangun fatigue", as Rebel had Kim Ji-suk in that role for the bulk of the drama, while Lee Dong-gun is now in that same role barely two weeks later. Still, Queen will probably get more viewers once the story firms up and Suspicious Partner and Ruler wind down.

2

@junny Aaargh..Beautiful Mind! I really liked that show. Even though I can see why it didn't garner high ratings, it definitely did not deserve to get cut.

4

I'm still mad about Beautiful Mind being cut. ?

I share your views.... this drama deserves at least an 8%. Glad that though nationwide viewership rating remains at 6.5% for episode 4 but Seoul viewership increased to 6.8% and landed on the 15th slot. Hope it continues to improve

I think 7 Day Queen so far is heavy on the romance and not so much history to balance it out and make it more appealing to the general viewers like what "Princess Man" did. Fantastic portrayal of King Sejo's coup and reign plus a Romeo and Juliet love story to go with it.

@junny
"Yeonsangun fatigue"... this! He was the worst Joseon king ever and probably does not need a back to back sageuk to remind everyone about how crazy and cruel he was.

Three sageuks in one week is a lot. Why can't they spread them out?

Unless Ruler keeps going downhill. The rating will not change much.
I'm hoping it'll increase a little when the main leads take over.

Odd timing is the only reason I can think of. It looks like there hasn't been any concrete plan for a sageuk in the later half of the year either, so I'm wondering if this first half would be rather heavy on sageuk.

I don't hope for 7DQ to top Princess' Man. Actually has there been any romance sageuk that tops TPM since its airing date in 2011? I can't think of any :P. 7DQ happens to impress because among the recent waves of sageuks which centre on romance it has fared quite well in terms of writing and directing. Acting is personal preference but I don't think it has fallen short compared to other peers with the same focus either. Of course much of the judgement must wait until the adult part takes over, but I hope it won't repeat the history of Moon-Sun where the first part was beautiful but the second half dwindled.

True but KBS knew that ahead of time. I think they were hoping it would be well received like "Moonlight."

I think novel based sageuk rom.com like "Moon Sun" and "Moonlight" are much more successful because there is not much expectation when it comes to the history. Same goes with "Tree With Deep Roots." Based on a novel, a fictional take on King Sejong and the creation of the Hangul alphabet. "Painter of the Wind" too.

If 7 Day Queen is going to be a well written directed rom.com with Yeonsangun running around in the background then it's not going to get more viewers beside the rom.com fans.

1

@kiara
You're right that KBS might want to repeat Moonlight history with 7DQ, judging how PMY herself suggested that viewers consider this production a 'Moonlight' set in 5 years later, which can be seen as an implicit promotion based off of Moonlight's success. However I don't think they really bet on this as a second Moonlight, since none of the main leads has star power as KJY, or recently starred in a well-received drama as the case of PBG in Reply 1988. In other words, there is absolutely no guarantee that any of the leads in 7DQ would make another 'PBG' or 'Song Joong Ki' level of breakout. That's why I'm still wondering if there are other and just as important factors that determined the airing time of 7DQ. But still, it's rather awkward for them because it doesn't look like this is the best time to attract viewers, what with Ruler already settled half-way through its run with its own loyal viewerbase.

Yeah I kind of hope that they won't let Yeonsangun just run back and forth in the background, but that's just my wish because a lot depends on the skills of the writer. I guess part of the reason why many people are holding their hope up for 7DQ is because it has the most potential in writing in the current batch of sageuks, so there is something to be hopeful for that the writing will not weaken towards the end of the show. Yet since it's something completely out of our control, I guess we'll just have to wait and see what'll happen next.

3

@HyeMi
Understand what you are saying.
There are many factors determining the ratings. Koreans knows their history better than any of us. It can have the best written and directed romance out there but neglect to make it appealing to the average sageuk viewers than that's all they are going to get. The rom.com fans.

0

@kiara
I know and I don't expect this one to sweep the die-hard sageuk fans off the ground tbh. I would categorise 7DQ more or less in the same group as Moonlight as far as plot and focus are concerned, instead of hailing it as a sageuk masterpiece. The Moonlight magic aside, that drama started out at around 8-9%, and judging how similar these two can be, I'm hoping for 7DQ to reach that figure too. Plus, I know fully well that 7DQ doesn't have any rating magnets, and the historical aspect will be much thinner than found in other classic romance sageuks, that's why I take a humble approach and hope for a modest increase of 1.5% for the rest of 7DQ's run :D. If this was anywhere near the league of TPM I would have been indignant at the ratings it's got already XD.

Moon Embraces The Sun

Even if Ruler continues to go downhill, I agree that its ratings won't change. If SDQ's rating is to go up, it must get new viewers. I will have to eat my words if Ruler does drop significantly and 7DQ is the gainer.

I'm not the type who watch a show just for romance so that's why I didn't plan to watch Seven Day Queen. However, the show has done such a good job in laying the foundation that now I am happily going along with the mix of romance + history which they are balancing very well.

Concerning "Yeonsangun fatigue" I am not sure how the Koreans view it. I completed Rebel before 7DQ, it actually made watching the latter more interesting.

Rebel's Yeonsangun was mostly taken from the history books and Kim Ji-suk gave it a realistic portrayal.
Honey Lee's Noksoo was equally amazing.
It's hard to top that especially if you are in it for something more other than the romance.

7 Day Queen isn't doing much with the actual history. So far it's been fictionalized to accommodate the budding romance between two teen agers and Yeonsangun as the 3rd wheel.

1

@kiara I don't know history. So, are you saying that SDQ's Yeonsangun is more fictionalized? I don't mean the part about him being a 3rd wheel but the way they portray him in court and the politics. How about the relationship between him and his brother, is it purely fiction too? I don't remember reading about it anywhere the last time I looked up Yeonsangun.

1

@outofthisworld
I haven't seen it up to eps 4 yet but so far not all but some.
They have to change part of it because the focus should be his brother and his queen.
There is no detail information on their early life. The historiographers only focus on the king after they take the throne.
Most likely Lee Yeok did resides outside of the palace and it's possible that they did not meet each other at all.

Now you are going to make me watch it all :).

1

@kiara @outofthisworld 7 Day Queen has established itself as "a fiction based on history"... so yeah, I don't think we can expect this drama to be historically accurate. It might even have a different ending for the queen. Who knows, maybe unlike the history, she'll live happily forever and after with the king (even though I prefer they stick to history in this matter) just like how The Prince in Moonlight didn't die.

1

@nchoe
It's only at eps 4 so here's hoping for balance between romance and politics.
It doesn't have to be historically accurate. Most sageuks are not but with a skill writer changes can be intriguing.
Was there something Yeok could have done to keep her from being deposed?
Maybe with the addition of Jo Gwang-jo will make politics interesting...

0

@outofthisworld
This maybe the 2nd time most of us have seen a sageuk based on Yeonsangun's reign. For Korean viewers, this might be the 10th or 11th times.

The childhood portion is always the lowest. Everything about it is made up by the writer. Joseon people had arranged marriages. There was no dating before the marriage. Most of the royals were married very young, some as early as 9yrs old.
Maybe some are waiting for the adults to show before they start watching.

1

Yeah, and much of Seven Day Queen is more or less fixed story-wise - Yeok will lose his queen and they'll pine a lot but not meet or something, Yeonsangun will be overthrown, etc etc. There's not a lot of leeway to get around things. Unless maybe the writer takes a bit of creative licence with history?

Ruler might go downhill writing-wise, but people will probably still stick around for Yoo Seung-ho.

Hahaha...You make SDQ sound so boring. Maybe that's why people aren't tuning in? They feel that they already know the end result and aren't very keen in the journey of the ill fated pair?

4

I respectfully disagree. If we go by fixed story, then more or less all Sageuks are fixed and have a finish line set. What makes 7DQ different is the fresh take on the same story. And there is just so much heart and conflict centered around the brothers, its both sad and heartwarming. I think most people who are tuning in went in with nearly zero expectation or being ambivalent about it. Still it has a core audience that did stay throughout 3 and 4. I have read netizen comments and it is not much different than us here. They wonder about the ratings too but I guess people choose to see it later via web portals.
I know, it is also reasonable to assume that Rebel being written around the same era, it has some effect on viewers mind. Some obviously possibly don't want to see another rendition of the same joseon era story and want to linger their feelings for their beloved drama. All of that is working to keep it in the lower digits. Still the word of mouth that I've seen in korean blogs is so far entirely positive with very few exceptions. I am hoping that will result in slow trajectory ratings wise upwards.
As for Ruler, yes the leads are beloved and may not loose much audience. I honestly don't think it has to loose core viewers, as long as more people tune in for 7DQ. Viewership is down if we compare data as an aggregate. So who knows, 7DQ has a shot at rising hopefully without affecting others much.

3

A skilled scriptwriter will make history "work" for him or her, even if there's a finish line set. We'll have to see if that is the case for Seven Day Queen.

1

I only watched first two epi of SDQ so I can't comment on the contents. But honestly it's so hard for current romance sageuk to beat Princess Man which can balance romance + the history, and on top of that excellent acting. It is either too focus on romance part (my prediction on SDQ and the upcoming The King Loves as well). I could be wrong but that's my predictions. Same reason why I couldn't finished either Moonlights or Moonlover last year. It could be a reason why I'm still watching Ruler despite of weak writing and execution, because aside from the romance, its plot has something different I can look forward to.

LOL - Yeonsangun, I still got a strong feeling with Kim Ji Suk's version and probably that's why I am just not so excited to see another new version in short of time, despite of different actor and approach/ writing. Wondering for how long Yeonsangun will appear in SDQ.

I want it to rise. I am right now hoping for it to rise to steady 8%, if it can break double digits, hurray. But 8% is my reasonable expectation.
But mostly as long as they maintain quality, I'll be fine with it. Also, I hope KBS won't intervene regardless of the ratings expectations because I really, really like this show and I am in for all 20 episodes of delicious angst, heart and Lee Dong Gun.

Absolutely, those that are doing well in the ratings are not perfect either and might have more flaws than 7DQ but Yoo Seong Ho and Ji Chang Woo are already well know in Korea.... I will be more surprised if the 2 teeners will beat them rating-wise, but on second thought whose acting are being raved and much talked about now lol the not so famous teeners!!!

Yes! I'd much rather be left with these positive thoughts, than with the disappointing prospect of Seven Day Queen continuing to be ignored. This show had a really strong 4th episode and, with the leads taking over for good next week, I think ratings will have the chance to pick up a bit. I'm hoping for 7%, at least.

The children really step it up in eps 3 & 4. Hopefully those planning to jump in still marathon those eps, because I consider them pretty important. I suppose some could be satisfied with reading recaps though.

4

It's the just way I watch sageuks.
Instead of enjoying the cute interaction between cute teen agers. My mind was busy trying to calculate the distance from the countryside to Hanyang and how this girl made it there on foot.

Yea I need to adjust expectations and enjoy it for what it is. This could turn out to be one of my favorite rom.com.

0

@kiara I think it also boils down to personal preference.
You can still watch Ruler which I can't because of the massive number of plot holes.
We can go on and on about quality, accuracy and so on but at the end of the day, people just prefer one drama over another.

3

@outofthisworld
Pretty much. It's a great genre and it's my favorite but it has changed a lot throughout the years.

I'm glossing through Ruler because it feels more old school.
7 Day Queen has romance and hopefully court intrique on the side to offer. I'm curious about their version of Jo Gwang-jo. He was a big deal in Korean history.
Then there is Sassy girl for the over the top comedy.

I'm glossing over all 3 but I'm not quite sure which one I'd want to really watch.

Oh you should watch the teens, they did a great job!!!

if people continue to keep tuning out of Seven Day Queen.

Noooooooooooooooooooooo!!! ???

I think none of Mon-Tues nor Wed-Thurs dramas are doing particularly well. For Wed-Thurs slot, I expected Ruler to hit 20% when it burst out of the gate with good double digits premiere. The fact that it's stagnating at this 12% number is indicative of the underlying issues. This type of saeguk with nation's beloved child actors YSH and KSH should have gone as high as Moonlight but I don't think it will. I have no answer about SDQ except that it could boil down to its poor timing and lack of star power. I am not watching Suspicious Partner but I'd thought a rom com would do better, I'm surprised that it hasn't hit 10% yet.

As for Mon-Tues, I am less surprised about My Sassy Girl's numbers because the hype was not the good type. It was negative hype all the way and the opening didn't help. What I am surprised at is that the numbers didn't dwindle as much(I was guessing 6% this week ?) and actually rose for eps 7/8.

Anyone caught Forest of Secrets? 3% looked not too shabby.

Lastly, I shall chant "Rise, Seven Day Queen, Rise!!!"

As for MSG, I've read somewhere that negative publicity is still publicity, so the negative reviews might help in helping the show retain or even slightly increase its ratings :D. We never know. People are hard to predict and what we once thought ugly/ terrible/ low in quality might eventually grow on us and make us stick it out with them until the end :D.

I don't think that is the case. I have this impression that the Koreans dislike remakes a lot. Worse, MSG is a remake of their very own iconic movie and iconic character. Did you read the knetz's comments? They were the worse I've ever seen. Clearly, the ones watching aren't the ones commenting online ?

Required fields are marked *

Lol, I know. There have been discrepancies in the past between ratings and comments on online streaming sites. Anyway, MSG is doing quite well given the reactions online from knetz. For a remake and a parodied version of both the genre and the original work I didn't think it would hover just under 10% mark.

2

@maskros do you know how these knetz comments are selected? I don't read Korean and only get them from sites like kkul-jaem and netizendrama which have translations. It gives me an idea of the response in Korea but I have always wonder how representative they are. It seems more fan based than anything else.

1

As far as I know they're directly translated from popular news/ online streaming sites. Usually only the first 10 or 20 most upvoted comments got to feature on the news page and got translated. I don't trust their representativeness much, simply because people are anonymous online and it's hard to collect real demographic data that way. I just read them for entertainment. Sometimes the comments/ reactions are hilarious and interesting they can make a whole drama out of themselves XD.

1

Who knows maybe in the upcoming episodes, MSG will be on the top, esp when things get a bit serious. I don't think it will be a hit, but I think it could rise by 1%-2% probably.

@maskros I often laugh whenever I read those comments - one thing for sure it's not something to take it as serious thing. They are like another drama for us.

3

I don't watch any korean netizen comments. is it that bad?
they had the fastest internet connection so they seems to enjoy comment about anything online lol

0

Surprisingly I started to love MSG more & more. This show has a clear purpose and for me, it served its purpose well so far. There is also My Only Love Song (Gong Seung Yeon & Lee Jong Hyun) which was just released at Netflix and it is just like My Sassy Girl. Thank God I really laughed a lot.

According to this post (scroll down for trans), you can contribute to the ratings when you watch the drama on the KBS homepage on-air. I have no idea whether this is legit or not because, as far as I can remember, only a few households are sampled for ratings- those with a certain number of family members. Has this changed? Perhaps someone with more knowledge of this could clear it up for me?

I'd love to be able to help Seven Day Queen rise!

The ratings from TNMS and AGB will remain as they are since the survey companies sample tv views from a set number of households. However, I suppose we can help boost their earnings by raising streaming figures via the KBS website. I'm not sure if international fans have access to Naver TV and VOD, but if we do, we can help the show by streaming and/or buying the episodes too.

For those without Naver accounts, KBS has a legal streaming site :) https://myk.kbs.co.kr/

And if anyone has been using aqstream for years, it will sometimes take you to the legal site.

I think we can all agree that Koreans are either tired, or they are actually enjoying the summer.
Ratings have been steadily declining for all timeslots (except weekend dramas).
This march we had the last eps of Defendant 22+%, Hong Gil Dong 12+%, And miss Perfect with 4-5%, and they were all around 40%.
Now we have all the Mon-Tue dramas barely scatching 30%.
The weekend ones seemed bad though, Duel barely 2% :(.
And I read a ton of comments fron k-netz that asked for The Best Hit to move to an earlier timeslot, so that's the problem with its rating.

I think they might have also started to get their shows online, cause its summer and they can use the days for other stuff.
Doubt a real hit drama will come anytime soon though :(

That is basically the way it is in the States too. In the Winter, more people watch tv. In the Summer, people are out and about and on vacation/holiday.

I feel like I watched too much spoilers for FMW & SP that I don't think I have to watch the whole epi again. I'm not even remember the last epi I actually watched the whole epi. LOL.

Rating in general not doing so good this week. I don't know what drama I want to root to rise more, maybe only Lookout at the moment based on what I'm watching. I don't really expect them to reach double digit (but anything is possible, right?) so crossing my fingers to see this drama to rise to between 8%-9%. Still have to catch up on The Best Hit latest epi, Duel & Secret Forest as well ?

So far I've really enjoyed the Seven Day Queen and the performances of the child actors. Looking forward to next week with their grown up counterparts!

As for Ruler, I'm finding myself unable to keep up my interest. So far I'm only speeding through each episode to admire Yoo Seung Ho :D

I wonder if drama viewing is influenced heavily by the political climate in S. Korea? When there was a political scandal and citizens wanted to take their minds off it and/or keep abreast of political news, drama ratings was very high, in the twenties and high teens even. Now that things are getting resolved and have stabilized, dramas have dropped to single digits and lower teen numbers. Or it could just be that since it is Summer, people prefer being outside having a good time to being at home in front of the tv. I see no other interpretation for the trends. Drama viewing has dropped across the board, and it isn't that the quality of dramas are inferior or their is less buzz.... or maybe there are too many dramas? (Ahhh...there's no such thing!?)

It might also be a case of viewers sticking to what they have started on. In my case, Suspicious Partner is in the same time slot as Seven Day Queen, and my instinct on Wednesdays and Thursdays is to turn to SP first, and then check out Queen after SP ends, because I'm already invested in SP and prefer to wait for the adults to come on in Queen.

More than political climate, there're more viewers depending on online streaming (especially when you have great internet connection, right SK?). Especially if you have too many good dramas catering to different audience. Dramas that can capture viewers across demographics will do well. I mean, when was the last time SK had an almost 40 % rating like DOTS? Probably we'll expect the next hit drama next year or in two years. lol

Haven't watched SP yet, but I've seen a lot of videos online especially on Youtube that's why I'm familiar with the drama. If SBS only know how to capitalize Youtube for international viewers, and not just rely on the other legal sites (Dramafever, Viu, etc.) And for KBS programs, I just recently discovered their my best friend K portal which is accessible for viewers who don't have Naver accounts. There are a lot of viewers there as well. Btw, KBS, you haven't uploaded "Best Hit" on KBSWorld yet lol.

I don't know exactly how these things work. Do stations earn anything by uploading their dramas on Youtube?
It's the production company that sells the rights to sites like DF and viki, right?
Broadcasters earn from commercials and PPLs. That's why ratings are still important because they help to sell these commercials. International viewers don't contribute unless the drama is sold at a good price in that country

1

@outofthisworld Youtube and other online content do not make $$$ as much as commercials and PPLs on television. But, online videos and streaming earn through click-through and ad placements as well. I mean, that's why they're like hundreds of vloggers. But, using online platforms acknowledges that the consumers' viewing habits also changed. And yes, that includes selling rights to Dramafire, Viki, and Viu.

0

@sojusommelier I don't think the broadcasters are totally ignorant of the trend. Who knows, perhaps they find the revenue generated by making english/foreign language subtitled videos available online not worth the while. Just like how the illegal streaming sites have ripped the subtitles off the official sources, it will happen in like manner to the broadcasters'.

Did I read you wrongly? Were you referring to international viewers or domestic?

Having watched the first 4 episodes of Seven Day Queen, I can say that so far so good. I've enjoyed it up to now.

Why the ratings it has garnered thus far? Who knows. It's the eternal question that I suppose all producers and networks ask themselves, "Will this be a hit?"

Those numbers for Fight My Way are actually surprisingly good, considering

1. Contemporary youth dramas on the Big 3 don't typically get high ratings if they're not written by the likes of Kim Eun-sook (since younger people don't really do conventional tv/watch on devices). On top of that, FMW has new/unestablished leads.

2. FMW started off at the literal bottom of the ratings pile and now doubled its premiere ratings.

3. FMW's Nielsen average ratings figures are for the entire hour, unlike My Sassy Girl which is counting them per half-hour because of the new episode split system.

IMO, FMW started low only because of Whisper which ended above 20%.

There's actually no favorite genre in Mon-Tues slot. My Sassy Girl is really not a saeguk, LOL. I don't even want to call it a traditional rom com. Lookout might have succeeded Whisper since they are kinda belong to the same genre but I don't think Kim Young Kwang can automatically pull good numbers.

It seems like FMW benefited most from the ending of Whisper.

By the way, hasn't Park Seo Joon been a lead for quite something already? I remembered watching him since Witch's Romance which was in 2014

MSG so far is like the compilation of parodies in kdrama with Joseon setting. ?

Park Seo Joon started to be in leading man territory after the success of Kill Me Heal Me although his first lead role was in Witch Romance which was on cable. His name might not big like some others, but for me he has established himself. With the benefit of having the military service done, he will surely becomes bigger in few more years esp with the absence of some other popular actors.

FMW pulling in double digits for a full hour of programming, which is more than the other dramas can manage even for half an hour. And my point about the genre stands - youth dramas, even the good ones, often end up with low ratings/bottom-of-the-table status. Which is why this one coming out first is a surprise.

As for Park Seo-joon.... Witch's Romance was on cable, he didn't book a role as a Big 3 lead until late 2015 - he's relatively new to the lead game still and this is Kim Ji-won's first ever public broadcast lead role.

And yes my girl Lee Se Young, she and Nam Ji Hyun are two girls who started their career as child actress that I want them to become successful in the middle of so many rookie /idol. It is still sad to see some others in 20s still haven't get chances to shine more, so hopefully at least these two girls can become bigger.

I think im a weird one i sort of took a break from dramas after defendant ended and only restarted once circle came out and so far im enjoying duel as well which is weird since the ratings seem to say the last batch of dramas faired better (see rebel, tunnel, whisper) I wonder what happened?

In other news i really have to say that duel is somewhat underrated along with circle although i do get why. Both are sci-fi ish which may not be everyones taste but at the same time i think the directors for both drama are fantastic they definitely add to the drama alot!

Just a quick review im at ep 3 of duel as of writing this and i think so far so good if you love thrillers and chasing sequences! Only major problem for me is really kim jung eun people who watch duel will get what im saying. As for circle its amazing! Its 100% my style and has amazing actors like wow! Just watch it there's no reason for you not to and its only 12 eps so :)

I expect more from The Best Hit. Fight for My Way again confidently beating meh partners. Circle is not letting its position go and forest of Secrets clicked well. These 2 are the only ones who can bring TVN back on track. TVN needs to take some of OCN's audience and then add a mix bag raunchy drama.

Required fields are marked *

I think it'all be difficult to take OCN's audience because: 1. OCN has a strong fan base, 2. OCN has a better track record of quality dramas/hits for this year compared to TVN, 3. TVN doesn't seem like the type to be airing the same type of shows as OCN and 4. They have different airing days.

They should've put Circle for a Friday Saturday time slot

I kinda think that if FMY continues to be this good and with good dramatic moments in the coming episodes, the ratings could reach up to 15%. One reason I think FMY's rating can reach that high is that all characters are relatable, and most of them are likeable.

I dearly would love to give MSG another chance since I saw some good comments around here.. sadly I still cannot. hmmm...

I'm feeling the boredom in SP and I'm going to drop it. Going back to continuing on Man to Man and maybe My Sassy Gal.

Duel yes for the time being for me, but if It's going to continue to bore me out then I might drop it.

I have short attention span on dramas unless they are really awesome like Signal, Tunnel, Chicago Typewriter, Lookout and Circle !! Blame my fickle-mind and tired working life as well ?

Could it be that viewers were impatient and lost a bit of interest because the plot is still about the young version of the characters? I know it is an important part of the story but maybe people thought to see the adult version if the main characters sooner? Just a thought...

0

reply

Required fields are marked *

I doubt the young parts is the main reason. Because there are so many sageuk which started with child parts as well. Many succesful teen actors are mostly started to gain fame because they played as young part in many sageuk so logically speaking, viewers can still love the child part as well, and in some drama, child part are the best thing. In this drama, it is either the plot itself which can't win the viewers' heart, or like some said, the timing is off.

Obviously I'd like ratings for Seven Day Queen to reach 10%, but even more than that, I'd like more traditional sounding instruments in the ost please? Rebel has spoiled me. :P

Yeonsangun fatigue? Not me! I'm one of those nerdy drama watchers that loves it when two dramas are connected by the same era or same characters (example: Faith and Empress Ki, Chuno and Three Musketeers). 7DQ is showing me another side of what happened in Rebel in a fresh way, so I'm happy.

Haha, I honestly will never expect a sageuk OST as awesome as Rebel's. Ever. Those expectations are way too unrealistic.

For this kind of show, I was hoping for an OST like the Princess's Man. But, surprisingly, I'm finding that the tracks are growing on me for this drama and I really can't figure out why. I don't even mind the English song, which I usually hate in sageuk.

And there are a few tracks I really love, like the humming song and the song that played when the rain finally fell in ep 3.

I absolutely loved Rebel and still miss it, but will watch it again. The lead actor does not have the classic looks as YSH and JCW, but he had soooo much charisma in that drama and stage presence. I loved it. The OST was very good too.

It's a little bit weird entering the times where there is no single show having a massive rating hit (last time probably Defendant? Goblin?) even though the shows are good!

Probably the majority of viewers are having mid-year drama breaks or slumps? Whereas it doesn't apply to us beanies. What is break? *panda eyes*
