Reunited Worlds: Episodes 11-12
by LollyPip
Hae-sung finally starts to ask some questions about his new life after coming back from the dead, particularly in regards to his new powers. But the answers are unexpected, and he realizes that he’s going to have to make some difficult decisions soon. He’s always lived his life for others—but is it time for him to start living for himself?
EPISODE 11 RECAP
Min-joon watches as Hae-sung hugs Jung-won, comforting her after her disappointing day. Hae-sung sees Min-joon and lets go, then he leaves so Jung-won can talk to Min-joon alone.
He’s downcast as he walks to the bus stop on his own, but soon Jung-won comes running after him. She’s relieved that he hasn’t gotten on the bus yet, and Hae-sung is just as relieved to see that she came for him.
Min-joon sits outside the restaurant, replaying his conversation with Jung-won. He’d said that she would get another chance to pass her test. He’d mentioned a successful sunbae of his who passed his test much later than most chefs, offering to take her to his restaurant to talk to him.
Jung-won had politely refused his offer, preferring to just go home tonight. Min-joon had held in his disappointment until after she’d gone.
Jung-won and Hae-sung sit on a bench to talk about their letdowns of the day. Jung-won admits that she was mostly upset that she couldn’t surprise Hae-sung with news that she passed her test, but she says that she’s decided to follow his advice and live her life for herself.
She tells him to do the same thing—to stop worrying so much about his siblings and just think about himself. He admits that his brother Young-joon is a problem, and Jung-won remembers Young-joon asking her to back up his story that he’s an only child.
Hae-sung tells her how he promised Young-joon he would pretend that they’re strangers. With a sigh, he says that he knows Young-joon even though they aren’t real brothers, and that he has a good heart. Jung-won agrees, telling him to be patient and Young-joon will come around.
She asks Hae-sung if he cried when he made his promise to Young-joon, and he smiles sheepishly. She tells him to cry to her from now on and reaches up to pet his hair, then they realize that they’re staring into each other’s eyes. The mood changes to something more intimate, and they break apart nervously.
Jumping up, they agree that it’s time to head home, and as they walk Hae-sung says that he’s starting to feel like he’s imposing on Moon-shik and his roommate by staying with them. He offers to walk Jung-won home, and their fingers brush, which kicks off another awkward moment.
But this time Hae-sung grabs Jung-won’s hand in his and they run all the way to her apartment. He’s reluctant to let go of her hand when he drops her off, and they do that cute thing where they part reeeeally slowly, turning back to wave goodbye several times.
Hae-sung meets Ho-bang at the bus stop the next morning to help him carry his things—he’s been promoted to homicide detective and is moving to Seoul. They go to eat (at Subway, of course), and Ho-bang tells Hae-sung that he went through all of the old case reports in their hometown, looking for clues in the bully Jung-chul’s death.
He reminds Hae-sung that Tae-hoon’s father’s driver was driving the car that hit him. Ho-bang went to talk to him, only to discover that his funeral was that same day (oooh, so the man that hit Hae-sung was Min-joon’s uncle). At the service, the man’s wife was wailing that he wasn’t responsible for the accident, but when Ho-bang asked her about it later, she denied saying it.
The only reason Hae-sung can think of why someone would hide being responsible for his death is if they were also connected to Jung-chul’s murder. It makes him happy to realize that this likely means that Young-joon had nothing to do with the bully’s death.
Mr. Mystery surprises Hae-sung on the bus and tells him that he got to see his son speak again, and that he thinks he said he missed him. He thanks Hae-sung again for making it possible, and Hae-sung asks a favor in return.
He says that he knows he’s strong and can hear extremely well, but he wants to know how his other senses may be enhanced. Mr. Mystery doesn’t see the point in knowing whether his sight, taste, and touch are better, but Hae-sung knows exactly what button to push. He says that he wants to use everything he can to help his brothers and sisters, and Mr. Mystery caves.
He takes Hae-sung to the top of a very tall building to work on his eyesight. Hae-sung struggles to tap into his super-seeing powers, but after a lot of frustration (mostly on Mr. Mystery’s part, hee), he’s finally able to zone in on a man several buildings away and read the text message he’s sending.
Next they go to a restaurant where Hae-sung learns that he can determine the exact ingredients in a dish just by tasting it. Mr. Mystery asks the restaurant owner if Hae-sung is right, and when the owner gets angry, they know Hae-sung nailed it.
Mr. Mystery balances a chopstick on his finger to demonstrate their special sense of touch, and Hae-sung picks up the trick quickly. Then he asks how to use a cell phone without it shorting out, but Mr. Mystery says he can’t use them, either.
Things turns serious when Hae-sung asks about the sudden pain in his chest several days ago. Mr. Mystery says that happens whenever they’re near someone or something related to their death.
He knows because he drowned in the Han River, and the first time he went there after coming back, he felt the same pain. He says that he only felt it the first few times he went to the river, and that the pain lessened and eventually stopped.
So Hae-sung visits the hospital and maneuvers himself near Young-joon, and when he feels no pain, he knows that his brother probably isn’t the murderer. He’s surprised to see Soo-ji in the lobby, who lies and says she’s at the library when Hae-sung calls her.
She’s actually at the hospital to speak to her doctor, who warns her that despite how she feels now, she could begin suffering collapses again at any time. She insists that she’s fine, but the doctor tells her to bring her sister with her next time so they can discuss a possible organ transplant. From Soo-ji’s reaction, it’s obvious that she hasn’t told anyone she’s ill.
Hae-chul brings little Gong-ju to see Hae-sung, and tells him that he got a job in a restaurant. Hae-sung is proud of him, and Hae-chul seems a lot more relaxed than he was before.
Hae-sung manages to coax the shy Gong-ju out from behind her daddy, and sees that she cut her bangs extra-short to look like “Pretty Aunty,” as she calls Jung-won. That is so freaking precious. Gong-ju pouts that she’s still not pretty, but Hae-sung tells her that she’s much prettier than Jung-won, who used to be soooo ugly and had a terrible temperament as a child.
HA, Jung-won is standing right there, and Hae-sung falls on his butt when he sees her death glare. She gives him a hard time about calling her ugly and offers to show him a bad temper if he wants to see one, and he trails behind her like a kicked puppy.
She’s still mad as they meet up with their friends for drinks to celebrate Ho-bang’s promotion. They play drinking games, and every time Hae-sung laughs, he gets a fresh snarl from Jung-won, hee.
Hae-sung sees a poster advertising a fireworks festival. Jin-ju tells him not to ask Jung-won to go with him, because she’s told Jin-ju she hates fireworks. But he remembers that when she was younger, she’d given him tickets to this very festival with a note saying that she loves fireworks. She’d asked him to bring his MP3 player and go to the festival with her, but he’d died before they could go.
He asks Jung-won if she’ll go with him to Hae-chul’s new job to congratulate him. She says yes even though she’s still grumpy at Hae-sung, but he grins at her anyway.
The following day, the restaurant owner’s nephew recognizes Hae-chul and tells his uncle that Hae-chul and his gang used to beat him up. Hae-chul sincerely apologizes, and the boss tells him to stay out of trouble and work hard. Hae-chul is visibly relieved that he didn’t get fired.
He moves away to see to some customers, but he hears the nephew telling his uncle to fire him because his brother is a killer. He goes back to confront the nephew, asking if he can prove it, and he angrily demands an apology.
Jung-won arrives in time to see the nephew repeat that Hae-sung was a murderer and refuse to apologize. She tries to calm Hae-chul, but the nephew sneers that Hae-sung got what he deserved when he died after killing someone. Hae-chul snaps, picking up a chair and slamming it into a table.
Hae-sung walks in and sees Hae-chul screaming and throwing things, and he roars at his brother to stop. Hae-chul rips off his apron and storms out, with Hae-sung and Jung-won right behind him.
Hae-sung yells at Hae-chul for his behavior, demanding to know why he started a fight his first day on the job. He says that Hae-chul should be ashamed in front of Gong-ju, and Hae-chul is so angry that he just walks away.
Jung-won tells Hae-sung that he went too far by mentioning Gong-ju, but he’s angry that Hae-chul defaults to violence whenever something goes wrong. Jung-won tells him that he was wrong too, because his siblings aren’t children anymore and he doesn’t know everything about them.
EPISODE 12 RECAP
Tae-hoon helps Young-in with a large box of product at the department store, wondering why her coworkers aren’t helping. He sees them watching curiously, so he asks Young-in to have lunch with him, which earns her some instant popularity points.
Ho-bang begs Jung-won to meet, beside himself because Jin-ju went on a blind date last night. He says he waited outside her apartment all night but she never came home, but he forbids Jung-won to call Jin-ju and ask about it. The poor guy is a wreck.
Outside, Hae-sung approaches the coffee shop, and with his keen hearing he overhears Ho-bang and Jung-won’s conversation. Deciding not to interrupt, he sits at a table on the patio, listening as Ho-bang explains that Hae-sung asked for his help with Hae-chul.
Ho-bang says he paid for the damaged property and convinced the restaurant owner not to press charges, which makes Hae-sung smile gratefully. But he’s shocked to hear that the reason Hae-chul blew up was because he was defending Hae-sung against unfair accusations.
Jin-ju joins Hae-sung and tells him that she got a text from Ho-bang that was meant for Jung-won, saying he was worried about her. She tells Hae-sung that she spent the night at her mother’s house and wonders why Ho-bang is so worked up, so Hae-sung promises to tell her.
Later, Hae-sung finds Hae-chul working at a car wash and thanks him for believing in him. He apologizes for yelling at him without knowing the whole story, and he promises to find the real murderer for his siblings’ sake.
Hae-sung goes to Jung-won’s that night to apologize to her too, and he says that she was right that his siblings aren’t kids anymore. He says that everyone has changed, with one exception: “It’s you, Jung-won.”
He produces the firework festival advertisement and asks her to go with him, to make up for the one they never got to see twelve years ago. Jung-won looks touched and happily agrees, and Hae-sung asks why she lied about hating fireworks.
He remembers her note and repeats it back to her word-for-word, that she loves fireworks because they make her think of how the world must have started. She’s impressed that he remembers, but he reminds her that for him, it was only a few days ago.
An arrogant man, Jang Sang-hyun, enters the restaurant and imperiously demands that Min-joon come to speak to him and his companion. Nearly the entire kitchen follows Min-joon out to see how Sang-hyun could dare show his face here.
They agree that Min-joon should just punch the jerk, but that he’s too much of a gentleman to do so. The kitchen manager explains to a waitress that Sang-hyun used to be the manager here, but that he stole Min-joon’s secret recipe and opened his own copycat restaurant.
Apparently Sang-hyun is here with an investor who wants to start a franchise with Min-joon and Sang-hyun. Min-joon politely turns him down flat and heads back to the kitchen.
Sang-hyun tells the investor to try to convince Min-joon, then heads outside for a smoke. He runs into Jung-won, who tells him he can’t smoke here, and he says that with her cooking skills, he’s surprised she hasn’t been fired.
He says that she’s pretty and has a good figure, and offers her double her current salary to be a waitress at his restaurant. He implies that her looks are her only asset, and that she should use her body if her kitchen skills aren’t up to snuff. He leaves her huffing indignantly. Ugh, he’s gross.
He goes back inside to his table, and Jung-won soon follows, slapping a bowl of kitchen scraps in front of him and saying it’s his meal. She says that trashy people should eat trash, then dumps the entire bowl over Sang-hyun’s head.
Sang-hyun stands up and starts loudly threatening to sue everyone in the place. Jung-won just says that since he said she should come and be eye candy for his customers, she’s going to counter sue him for sexual harassment.
Sang-hyun raises an arm to strike her, but Min-joon is suddenly there, still looking calm and collected. He tells Jung-won to go back to the kitchen, then asks Sang-hyun if he really plans to sue Jung-won.
Sang-hyun says that he won’t, if their business negotiations go well. But Min-joon says that he can sue him, too, then punches Sang-hyun in the face. That was awesome.
Later Min-joon is icing his sore hand in his office when Jung-won comes in, and it’s cute how he hides the ice and tries to act tough. She apologizes for causing trouble, thanking Min-joon for helping her with her mother, and again today. He asks for her help with something, then takes her to the library to do research for a new recipe he wants to create.
At one point, Jung-won is reaching for a book on a high shelf, and Min-joon comes up behind her and gets it down. Jung-won turns to find Min-joon standing very close, and when she scoots out from under him nervously, he flashes a tiny smile.
Min-joon tells Jung-won that he comes here a lot, but that it’s sometimes a bother because he so often gets notes and canned coffees left at his table by women. They head back to their table, and sure enough, there’s a canned coffee sitting in Min-joon’s spot, and he sends Jung-won an “I told you so” smirk.
He opens it and takes a drink, and the woman across from him says indignantly that that’s her drink. HAHA. Poor Min-joon has to buy her a new one, and when he makes his way back to Jung-won, she bursts into laughter.
Jung-won calls Hae-sung to make plans to meet him at the fireworks festival. Min-joon notes that they’re awfully close for cousins, then he starts to say something else, but he’s cut off by Jung-won asking if he got all the books he needs.
During the afternoon break, Jung-won happily makes sandwiches to take to the festival, and Min-joon sees her but doesn’t say anything. He picks up her watch where she left it on the counter, then goes back to his office. She goes upstairs to remind him that she asked for the evening off, which he grants.
Hae-sung visits Young-in at work to get his MP3 player, which she’s kept in a box of valuables all these years. As he’s leaving he suddenly clutches his chest, then remembers Mr. Mystery saying that the pain happens when he’s near someone who was involved with his death.
Just as Mr. Mystery said, the pain is not as intense this time. Hae-sung looks around for someone that could be causing it, but soon it disappears. We cut to Tae-hoon’s father, exiting the elevator that Hae-sung was just standing near, but he’s now on a different floor.
He enters his office, where he finds Tae-hoon and his mother fighting over whether he’ll accompany his parents to the hospital for their checkup appointments. At least his mother is honest, admitting that she wants Tae-hoon to marry her friend’s daughter.
Mr. Mystery pops up outside the shopping center and tells Hae-sung sadly, “My son just died.” Aw, no. They go to the hospital to see his son’s body being taken away, and Young-joon sees Hae-sung but ignores him completely.
Hae-sung sits with Mr. Mystery as he cries, and he tells Hae-sung that he’s started to feel weak and thinks he’ll have to “go back” soon. Hae-sung asks what he means, so Mr. Mystery explains that they have to go back to where they came from eventually, noting that he’s been here since last summer, which is a pretty long time.
He tells Hae-sung that they could go back at any time, and that nobody knows when it will happen, but sometimes it’s as short as a month. He tells Hae-sung not to put things off because he never knows if he’ll get another chance, urging him to go to that fireworks festival now while he can.
The kitchen manager announces that everyone has to stay late to prep for an event the following morning, and Min-joon clocks Jung-won’s disappointment. When it comes close to the time that she’s supposed to meet Hae-sung, she asks the kitchen manager for permission to go. But he tells her not to even think about it, and Min-joon stays silent.
But a few minutes later, Min-joon intervenes and dismisses those who have to leave. Jung-won thanks him and runs out, and Min-joon tells the kitchen manager that he needs to step out for a few minutes, but will peel all the shellfish in Jung-won’s place.
Hae-sung leaves for the festival, but he stops to deep-bow to Mr. Mystery, who waves him away weakly. But Hae-sung is still in the hospital when his chest pains him again, and he thinks smart and follows the pain signals, looking for the person who could be triggering them.
They lead him to an elevator, where he takes the stairwell just as Tae-hoon’s mother and father exit the elevator on another floor. They head to the health center for their checkups, and when Hae-sung arrives at their floor, they’re out of sight.
He follows the pain again to the health center entrance, but he pauses when he sees a clock and realizes that he’s late to meet Jung-won. Another stab of pain reminds him that he needs to find the killer, and he hears Mr. Mystery’s voice telling him not to put things off.
Hae-sung makes his decision and starts to enter the health center. But a doctor bumps into him, making him drop his MP3 player, and he thinks about Jung-won and how badly she wanted to see the fireworks. Hae-sung realizes what he actually wants, and he runs to meet Jung-won.
When Jung-won leaves work, she sees an old woman outside, loading cardboard onto a cart. The cart overbalances and starts to roll down the hill, but Jung-won is too far away to catch it. Min-joon suddenly shows up and stops the cart safely, and Jung-won breathes a sigh of relief.
But as he’s helping the woman pick up her cardboard, a car comes around the corner too fast and plows into Min-joon. He rolls over the hood and falls onto the street, unconscious. Jung-won stands frozen in fear.
She goes to the hospital with Min-joon, who’s suffered a severe head trauma. She sees the time and wonders what to do, but the nurse needs a guardian to stay with Min-joon. Jung-won agrees, since Min-joon has no family.
Hae-sung runs all the way to the festival, begging Jung-won in his mind to wait for him. When he arrives, he looks around frantically, but Jung-won is nowhere to be seen. The fireworks begin, and Hae-sung stares up at the sky, begging, “No, not yet!”
COMMENTS
I’m just devastated to learn that Hae-sung’s time back in the world is limited, even though I’ve suspected it from the very beginning. Even without that sure knowledge, so many moments in this episode were about bad timing and missed opportunities, and it’s becoming clear that the show is trying to tell us that Jung-won and Hae-sung are on borrowed time. There’s still something between them, especially on Hae-sung’s end since for him, he’s just picking up exactly where he left off. And I think that after twelve years, Jung-won wasn’t initially feeling anything for Hae-sung other than gratitude for having him back and fondness for her first love, but it’s obvious that those feelings are coming back for her, too.
But she’s also realizing that Min-joon is an attractive man too, and he has a lot going for him that Hae-sung doesn’t have. He’s mature, with life experience and a successful career, and he’s every bit as thoughtful and sweet as Hae-sung. The only thing he doesn’t have that Hae-sung does is a history with her. But he’s trying his hardest to put himself in front of her and get her to notice him without crossing any personal or professional boundaries. And while I’m crushed to learn that Hae-sung won’t be allowed to stay and make a new life with Jung-won, it’s comforting to know that he’ll be leaving her with someone who is a lot like him, and who loves Jung-won, too.
It’s an interesting twist to learn that the pain Hae-sung experiences whenever he’s near the person related to his death will recede over time. It puts a time limit on his ability to use the pain to lead him to answers, so he’s got to step up his game if he wants to learn who is causing his pain and why. I don’t think he’s truly that interested in learning more about his own death because as far as he knows, it was an honest accident. But he suspects that whoever is causing his pain was also involved in Jung-chul’s murder, and discovering who it is and what they know could be the key to clearing Hae-sung’s name and freeing his brothers and sisters from the limitations that being related to a murderer has caused their whole adult lives. Hae-sung’s pain is already lessening every time it happens, so he needs to hurry if he wants to solve this mystery and help his family.
I’m very worried about Soo-ji’s health concerns, for multiple reasons. It sounds like she’s been very sick but has been hiding it, but now she needs an organ transplant and her siblings are the best possible matches. She probably needs a kidney or a liver, since they’re looking for a live donor—maybe she’s diabetic? The actual blood relations among the five brothers and sisters is still unclear, but my guess is that Hae-sung and Hae-chul are related, as are Young-in and Young-joon, just based on their names. They’ve said that Young-joon and Hae-sung aren’t “real” brothers, and I’m guessing that since the doctor suggested Young-in get tested as a possible donor, that Soo-ji could be Young-in and Young-joon’s biological sister. And now that Hae-sung has learned that he’s not back for good and will have to leave again soon, all this talk of organ transplants just makes me that much more concerned.
It really broke my heart when Jung-won told Hae-sung that he can’t be his siblings’ big brother anymore, because they’ve all become adults while he was away. It just slams home that much harder that Hae-sung got left behind in the twelve years that he was dead. It’s understandable that he’s still trying to be their oppa and hyung, but the painful truth is that all of them besides Soo-ji are older than he is now. It’s so sad to think of what a wonderful family patriarch he would have been if he had been able to grow up along with them, but it’s never going to happen now. I think that Hae-sung’s instincts to guide and protect his family are too ingrained for him to ever be able to let go of his need to get involved, but I do hope he can figure out a way to do that that doesn’t cause more problems than it solves.

Me too, also maybe too many shows are trying to take cue from goblin, I see so many references here and there, in general in shows, and now here too. If Hae Sung's purpose was just to make amends for the rest of his family members, then what about him and Jung Won? Also, it does not help that Lee Yeon Hee aka Jung Won doesn't seem like anything more than friendship going on for Hae Sung now. I don't know if it has more to do with her acting or the character itself. And then she reacts when Min Joon is too close, blech. Lol sorry but I don't pretty much care about the chef and his pining for Jung won. No second lead syndrome for me this time I guess. :/

My sentiments exactly. I really, really want to watch this show, but the only Ho Bang, Jin Joo, Hae Chul, and Hae Sung - four characters out of a large cast - and scenes from the past, and the nice soundtrack - are working for me. The rest isn't striking the right notes.

Can somebody look at me the way Hae-sung is looking at Jung-won? I seriously melted in that scene, his gaze was so... damn. Also, Jin-gu's smile is life.
But what Min-joon did today was the coolest. I cheered so loudly when he landed that well-deserved punch. And then dying from secondhand embarrassment during the scene in the library. I hope nothing wrong will happen to his character (I mean those strange connections with Jung-won and Hae-sung's death), because the more I see of him, the more I like him. If he stays just the way he is, I think I will be able to get over Hae-sung (but still, don't go! I will cry a river if you do!).
Overall, I really enjoy this drama. It's a really sweet and melancholic story, with very compelling characters and interesting plot.

I'm going to guess the limited time thing may be a misdirection/red herring since it's this early in the series. This is a fantasy; there's plenty of time for a loophole that could keep Hae-sung around. We know far from everything about the rules of the world we're in.
At this point in time, I deeply can't stand Min-joon, and as much as I love YJG, I will probably drop this series if it becomes clear that Min-Joon is actually endgame.

Yeah, I really really don't think Min-joon is endgame, but I've been wrong before with some dramas, so idk I'm still a little apprehensive about that sort of ending.
But if Hae-sung is going to come back there's a lot of hurdles to overcome in making that plausible. I'm assuming he can't stay alive in his current form since he's probably not aging and would be forever a 19 yr old, so he'll have to become human again. We saw Hae-sung's coffin, so I don't think they can pull something like he wasn't really dead, just in a coma. So the only thing I can imagine is that either he will somehow get another identical, but this time fully human body or he'll be literally raised from the dead (decomposition magically fixed hopefully). Also will he start again at 19 yrs old or will he be 31? Please no time travel fix where Hae-sung avoids his death 12 yrs ago and the current present ceases to exist. That would be the worst possible way to get out of this mess. It would basically negate everything else in the drama, and while it would make most of the characters much happier, it just feels like cheating. Gong-ju would probably not be born if that happened which would be terrible.
Whatever it is Hae-sung better be alive in the end and end up with Jung-won. I won't accept anything else. This is supposed to be a healing drama, so that must mean it will have a happy ending right???

I am also unsure about how he's going to resurface, I'm thinking a '13 going on 30' type of ending, where everything from 13 happens again. Maybe this time when they're both 18, have sung won't die, and he will be able to be a chef himself, and have that happy ending with his family, halmony and jung won all together.
I am not sure I totally understand why these superhumans stay on earth, like their purpose this time? Ajussi has to go away since his son died, but what works for hae sung we don't know yet. What's his purpose, to unite his family and watch hae sung all settled with a man? So his stay in earth could be something like kim shin too maybe lol.

But if that happened then Gong-ju would probably cease to exist, since Hae-chul wouldn't go down the wrong path and would stay in school, go to college/get a proper job and not likely end up a teen dad. And I won't accept sweet Gong-ju poofing out of existence. I mean what's the point of Hae-sung trying to fix things with his family and friends now, if he's just going to be able to go back and make it so all the problems never happened and everybody's happy? That's cheating imo and makes everything Hae-sung is doing now completely pointless.

You know, I wouldn't mind if Gong ju returns as the daughter of HS and JW. Just saying. ;)

@doublefault - I want to be okay with that, but I don't think I would be. It's just I love Hae-chul as he is with his flaws and not being the father of Gong-ju would fundamentally change him. Might he be happier growing up with Hae-sung and the family all together and having Gong-ju as his niece rather than daughter, yeah probably, but still I just can't imagine him as such a different person who isn't Gong-ju's father first and foremost. I'd just much rather Hae-sung help his family sort through their current problems and get back together in spite of everything that's happened, instead of just magically making it so the problems never existed in the first place. To me that is too fantastical.

I might break a lot of things if JW does not end up with HS. Those missed chances and opportunities between them sort of reminded me of the novel (and movie), Atonement. It took me quite a while to recover from that ending.
HS pleading for the fireworks not to start yet because JW has not yet arrived was heartbreaking. Poor guy is on borrowed time and has again missed another "once in a lifetime" opportunity to watch the fireworks with the love of his life.

I wonder if Mystery Man and Haesung are like seeable ghosts? Like the whole, getting to come back to Earth when they have unfinished business they need to resolve - in Mystery Man's case, it was with his son and now that his son has passed, it's getting time for MM too.
For Haesung, I have faith that he'll need a longer time as he has siblings he needs to ensure they have better lives in the chance he does go back (I'm holding out cause we never know what'll happen when the drama is more fantasy like), and to clear his name and find the appropriate subject to apprehend

I kind of wonder what to feel about Hae-Sung's comment that Jung-Won hasn't changed. I don't know if that is the truth, or if he is still kind of trapped in the past about her as well. I don't feel like they have made that much focus on how she has grown up as well, and that she is still the same person, but changed nonetheless. I don't know if it is supposed to be a comment because women should stay as youthful/dependent as possible or if I'm just overreading this. Probably the latter.
I got to admit, though, I do like the uncertainty in the love triangle. A lot of dramas add love triangles that I don't always feel are necessary, especially if the endgame pairing is decided from the start and there are no consequences of the conflict. But here, there are legitimate questions about the morals and mental health for Jung-Won and Hae-Sung to go into a romantic relationship, especially Min-Joon is as nice as we are shown. You worded it perfectly!
I don't personally think Min-Joon is hiding anything sinister. I mean, perhaps he knows the truth and is hiding it, but I don't know if he himself is sinister or if he is just unlucky with his family. Kind of like the second male lead in Uncontrollably Fond; his parents messed/covered up one of the lead's family, he feels guilty by proxy and overcompensates by trying to be better.

I thought of it as him saying that even though she's an adult with adult problems, at heart she's still the 19 year old girl that he knew and loved. That is, she's changed physically but she's still Jung Jung-won to him.

If Hae-sung has to leave again, I will lose all faith in dramaland. Find a loophole and let him stay! Logic can take a hike as long as Hae-sung can live with his family and Jung-won. If this becomes another 49 Days, my yell of frustration will be heard around the world.

I can't get onboard with Min Joon. He's nice and sweet and successful... but everything he does right just feels like maneuvering by the show to make me feel better when Hae Sung is gone.
I am not going to be okay when Hae Sung is gone. It's like dad dies but I get a friendly new step-dad. Not the same, not cool show!!

Thanks LollyPip!
I'm actually relieved to find out that there is a going back (to being dead) for Hae Sung. I'm all for the proper order of things. Although it was tragic that he died, he is dead and should return to where he came from. In actual fact, we can see that he does not belong in the world and in this time. There would be no way to make a loveline with him and Jung Won work since she'd always be growing ever older than him and he'd likely remain 19 forever. The saddest thing would be for him to become like Mr Mystery, where he'd end up seeing all his family and friends aging and dying, while he stays the same.
I do wish there could be time for side stories where Mr Mystery might hang around a bit longer to give Hae Sung more advice, or where Hae Sung with his great ability to care for others, might get a chance to help a fellow 'dead' sojourner newbie.
However the main plot now should be centered around clearing his name, and, in realising that he'll have to leave,... it should also focus on how he might make it easier for Jung Won, his family and friends, to say goodbye to him again.
I find, unexpectedly, that I like the character of Chef Min Joon. Actor Ahn Jae Hyun usually fails to impress me, however this character suits him and he has made Chef warm and endearing.
I look forward to the building of bridges between all the siblings in the next episodes. I've just thought of a possible scenario where Young In will not be a donor match for Soo In, but that Young Jun is, and thus has to acknowledge his family (and maybe lose his position?) to save Soo In's life. That will be a true dramatic way to bring the family back together again. :)

As much as I don't want Hae Sung to disappear again, I also don't want him to stay, especially with his 19 y/o body. It's kinda cruel to let him stay just like that when everyone else around him is growing up. I'm also not fond of Hae Sung and Jung Won's relationship in 2017 timeline. I understand that they had lost 12 years to be together, but that doesn't convince me for Hae Sung-Jung Won to be the endgame. I'm not really up for romance in this drama. I just simply enjoy Hae Sung's moments with his siblings. I just hope that he'll help his siblings to be family again so that he can finally rest in peace.
Anyway, I just hope that only President Cha's responsible for Hae Sung's death without involving Tae Hoon or Min Joon. So far, I've faith in Tae Hoon as a nice guy and I hope he stays that way until the end. I also wonder if Tae Hoon and Min Joon will have moments together as brothers? I'm all up for more bromance!

Completely agree. While I want Yeo Jin Goo to live, and laugh this time round (looking at you, Circle), and while I want Hae Sung to have a shot at life (his death was so tragic), I feel like the show would make more sense if he helped his family and Jung Won overcome their sense of loss following his death, get their lives on track, and leave - which does seem to be the direction the show is headed in.

That's exactly how I think of this drama. I wouldn't wish for any loophole or some twist in this drama to make Hae Sung stays though it's cruel to make him die twice, but that's not the whole point of this drama. His death causes his family to be torn apart and Jung Won to be unable to move on with her guilt and her teenage years. He's here now to fix things right, and also solve the mystery behind his death. I think the part of "healing" drama in this show is about Hae Sung healing all the wounds that he'd left when he died all of sudden. Everyone around him must feel like his time in 2017 is sort of like a dream, but it's actually nice to have a second chance to amend and a chance to say goodbye before he leaves for good.

I have a theory about what Hae-sung and Ahjusshi actually are. I don't think they are simply ghosts since they can be seen by everyone and have powers beyond what I'd expect a ghost to have. I think they are actually stars (as in astronomical stars) in human form and possibly also something like angels.
One reason I think this is because of Hae-sung's ability to use a payphone, but not a smartphone or tv remote. Payphones have cords and use cables to transmit signals, but smartphones and tv remotes are wireless, so they use radio waves. Radio communications are subject to electromagnetic interference, one natural source of which is the sun, but all stars emit radio waves, it's just that the sun is the only one close enough to the earth to cause interference. Hae-sung's body is mostly able to contain the energy from a star, but when he gets very emotional some of it gets out causing the lights to burst, and when he directly touches devices that use radio waves it causes interference rendering them unusable to him.
Now for him being an angel, everyone has seen the movie It's a Wonderful Life, right? In that movie angels are shown to be literally stars in outer-space. Celestial beings=celestial bodies is an old idea. Remember the shooting stars in the first episode when Hae-sung comes back? I think Hae-sung was one of them and the others that were still going by as Hae-sung already woke up are either the older angels who resurrected Hae-sung dropping him off on earth then leaving, or they were other people resurrected at the same time as Hae-sung heading to different places.
Maybe Hae-sung, Ahjussi and the others are people who've been selected to be angels, but must first resolve their earthly regrets and do acts of goodwill for people they knew in life in order to earn their wings (like in Wonderful Life, where the angel has to save George to earn it's wings). Maybe that's a bit too Western/Christian for a kdrama, but with the healing theme angels kind of fit better than the typical ghosts/spirits of Korean folklore, right?

As soon as I saw hae sung use his powers I thought he was an angel. I thought he had gone rogue after getting his memories back though haha I was so wrong. But I love the idea of him being a star. (And I never thought I'd read about em on dramabeans haha I worked as an electromagnetic compatibility engineer for a bit. Quite fascinating stuff!) It's a very western idea and mythology though, so I would be surprised if they went there....

Wow, I actually would be surprised if the writer put that much thought into this. I would love it if he did, but I find it unlikely lol. When it comes to fantasy dramas the writers almost never go as deep into the mythology as I would like. Korea is something like 25% Christian anyway, right? So having Christian themes might be uncommon but it could happen. I love your theory <3

I think the reason Soo-ji doesn't say anything to her sister is because she's not related to any of them. I agree with everything you said in your final comments and that certainty that Hae-sung and Jung-won won't have a happy ending really breaks my heart. I cannot imagine how they would all feel when they find out he's going to be taken from them yet again. Maybe if they know beforehand, they'll have more closure this time. This episode made me so sad, and now I have to go watch something funny.

Actually, Sooji is the only blood related sister to all of them. The 2 Hae brothers are from the same parent. The 2 Young bro/sis are from the same parent. Sooji is the half sister of both families after Young Joon's mom remarried to Hae Sung'a dad. I suspect Sooji's illness will bring the family back together.

Well, I suppose my kdrama catnip of childhood/first loves is stronger than my generally very strong pull toward Second Lead Syndrome!
I like how the June topic made me really pay attention to what makes me drawn to various elements, and in this case, pairings. I almost always go for the underdog, but when I don't, I barely consider the poor other fella.
In Reunited Worlds, it's also the way this story is woven so beautifully. Just wow.
I think Jung Won ached for the loss of Hae Sung her whole life, and we see how it affected so many layers of her life, but I also don't get the impression that she was ever really over her feelings for him! So in this I suppose I disagree with LollyPip. I think Jung Won felt drawn to Hae Sung the moment he came back, and I never sensed her wavering at all toward Min Joon. Though what a great guy he is!
I am devastated thinking Jung Won and Hae Sung probably can't build a life together beginning now.

I just rewatched and you are right. She does look very suspicious. The car doesn't look like it was trying to turn the corner at all, rather it looked to be purposely driving right into Min-joon, they didn't even attempt to brake until after Min-joon got hit. There's no way the driver didn't see him there. If it is a set-up I think the culprit is that asshole Min-joon punched.

I don't think they were purposely hunting after Minjoon. Minjoon happened to get in the way. She was waiting for Jungwon. Minjoon happened to come out after the event was already happening. I think the lady was paid to wait for Jungwon to start the accident but the driver of the car didn't know who he or she was targeting and was just told to drive at the person coming to stop the cart.

I agree, Jung-won was probably the real target, but I still think it's the jerk from the restaurant, he hates both of them after all and probably isn't too upset that he got Min-joon instead of Jung-won. I don't think he was looking to kill her though, the car wasn't going that fast and obviously Min-joon is going to be okay, probably he wanted to scare them.

Oh did my heart break when Haesung decided not to push through looking for his killer, despite knowing he now has a time-limit to find out who that person is, but instead he chose to go see the fireworks with Jungwon, but that Jungwon wasn't there at all. And you could sense how it felt like things have fallen apart for him in that one simple moment.
I'm starting to warm up to adult Jungwon-Haesung ship, but as much as I would like them to find happiness by being together, Haesung did die already and I really feel like he would have to go back after settling the things he needed to do. But despite all that, I just really couldn't care less about the restaurant couple and their scenes at all. They have cute moments, sure, but AJH is just being too bland in his role. I still would wish they have spent those scenes more with Haesung being with his family and friends. I totally loved the conversation he had with Jinjoo. It was such a simple scene and yet felt so natural. When Jingoo is supposed to be with his "same-age" friends, I somehow do not feel the age gap at all. It's awesome.
And Sooji. T_T Someone already mentioned it before that Haesung-Haechul and Youngjoon-Youngin are the real siblings and that their parents remarried each other and had Sooji. So I feel like Haesung would be the organ donor for Sooji before he leaves. Is that even possible?
BTW: Sooji's doctor was actually Jingoo's dad in a drama and he also played a doctor there... But that drama was too makjang and that Jingoo never finds out he's his real dad in the end. ?

As much as my heart aches for Hae-sung, I personally don't think it's right for him to stay. He's stuck in his own time, 12 years ago, and it would be cruel for him to stay in his body that's only 19. I feel like people who've passed away should stay that way because the moment a dead person comes back to life, everything seems to fall apart. (In Drama land, of course. Never had a person come back to life in irl lmao)
On another note, I think Minjoon's a nice guy who's not crossing any boundaries. I like AJH, so maybe it's just the actor pulling me to like him but he's obviously actually in love with JW. If Hae-sung goes back to where he came from, I'm sure Min-Joon will do a good job in taking care of JW in his place.

for the siblings' relationship, i'm guessing they're stepsiblings, with the exception of soo ji, being blood related to everyone. full blood siblings would be hae sung + hae chul and young joon + young in.
if the above is true, i'm hoping that young joon would be the one whose organ is compatible with soo ji. and this situation that his sister is in dire need of his help would be the catalyst for him to accept his siblings back in his life. it's far fetched but i'm thinking there is a possibility that he'll be the first of the siblings, if not hae sung, to find out about soo ji's illness.

just to add, looks like the show is setting this up for a min joon + jung won ending, unless they decide to kill jung won in the end, then hae sung + jung won can be together in the afterlife.
i do think that min joon would be perfect for jung won. i agree with @lollypip that the only thing hae sung has over him is hae sung's history with jung won. i feel like min joon and hae sung are very similar to each other, and that had hae sung been allowed to grow up, he'd be very much like min joon.

I don't know if he'd get the girl at the end, but there are certain things that i don't like about Cha Min Joon. First he had this crush on Jung won for 3 years but never told her? Aren't they adults ? it's weird he never told her before that he likes her. If jung won did not have such a sad past with Hae Sung he could've most probably lost the girl by now to someone else. Second, it's creepy how he watches her from CCTV and just lingers in the kitchen to watch her.. and to think he was doing this for freaking 3 years! And for a boss in a restaurant he spends a lot of time in the kitchen. Third i wonder why he kept that hair clip and how he got it... He was probably a young boy then and i wonder why he needed a girls hair clip and kept it in a jar all these years? did he get it near Hae Sung's dead body? It's kinda weird even to think about it. Forth is that the things he talk about is boring as hell and he's weirdly too calm. There's nothing lively about him, and jung won needs someone lively because she used to be such a lively person. she needs some one who can breath life on to her and that's what hae sung was doing all this time after he returned. She's obviously more happy now and goes to have fun with friends and all. And there is no indication that Min Joon did anything to make her happy all these years. She remained the same sad girl filled with guilt. Fifth is that he loves jung won but never really seems to stand up for her when his manager always scolds or being harsh to Jung won. and Sixth is that he really need some more muscles in him. He has a restaurant so not so hard to get access to food anyway. he looks as if he can be blown away by wind and in the last episode he hardly threw one punch and had to put his hand in a bowl full of ice. I really hate when korean actors become so dangerously thin, Hope Jin goo will never be like that and keep being the macho man he is. It's not really the actors' fault but Min Joons' character is not that interesting at all. at least for now.

I do think it's quite natural to wish main lead to get the girl. :) But there is this bummer in this drama as the main lead is someone who came from the dead and his days seems to be numbered AGAIN which is sad. Min Joon still will be boring to me even if Jin goo is not the main lead. But since this is a fantasy drama anything can happen. Of course Jin Goo is my favorite actor. But i have noticed, that no matter how talented and handsome he is in his drama's there are quite a lot of people who get second lead syndrome :D. i wonder if it is because most of the time the second lead is taller than him or because of second leads have the typical face and figure that is accepted as handsome and good looking because many of his second leads cannot hold a candle to him when it comes to acting. Anyway if we come back to this drama there are couple who has worked out such age gaps as well. So there is a possibility to HS and JW couple to work out their relationship. But the problem is HS being a returnee! can't wait to see what they are planning to do about this! <3

I really hope this week will focus more on the siblings and less on the restaurant. So much potentially heartwarming and heart wrenching stories being lost for pointless set up of a chemistry-less romance. MJ maybe a great character on paper but AJH is too boring to watch and doesn't make me feel for him.
I don't really care if HS ends up with JW at the end. I know that even if it's a sad ending Jingoo will make it great and memorable. However at this point in time JW feels nothing for MJ so those half-lacking, non-pulsating romantic scenes can be cut down to speed up the drama pace.
