Lookout: Episodes 11-12

Oh man, the stakes are mounting as we delve deeper in our character’s backstories. We finally find out about at least one of our sidekicks, but bringing up the past may have some ugly consequences for the future. I hope Do-han has several back-up plans in place because while he does spin a lovely tangled web, Suji may lead her fellow cohorts into a coup before he can complete his master plan.

EPISODE 11 RECAP

At the church, Suji gets the call that the kidnapper/molester, Jang-soo, has just picked up a woman in his taxi. Both Kyung-soon and Bomi urge her to go after him, but as she starts to head out, Suji remembers that the light on the confessional booth had stayed lit even after the priest had left, meaning someone was still inside.

She slowly walks over the confessional’s other door, but when she yanks it open, there’s no one there. She hurries out, and as she drives away, Do-han emerges from the shadows behind the church, watching her.

Jang-soo drives through the night, his victim now unconscious in the backseat. Yikes, did he drug her? Not far behind, Suji follows Kyung-soo’s directions as he monitors Jang-soo’s route via the tracker that Suji had placed on his taxi earlier.

Bomi worries that there are few CCTVs along the current route and she might lose visual on the car, but Kyung-soo assures her that he can follow the GPS signal. Of course, right at that moment, Kyung-soo loses the signal and Suji is driving blind.

Following the last known location, Suji comes upon a car that had just been in an accident and realizes that Jang-soo must have done a hit-and-run with it, knocking off the tracker she had placed on it. Spying a nearby shadowy bridge, Suji guesses that she knows where Jang-soo is headed.

In the shadow of that very bridge, Jang-soo pulls over and starts looting through the woman’s belongings, pocketing cash and her necklace. Then he leans into the car, grinning lecherously as he looms over the unconscious woman. Ick.

Fast-forward a bit and the woman wakes up in the back of the taxi, unharmed, except now it’s Suji who’s driving the car. She drops her off at home where the girl’s father is waiting, and the young woman stumbles out of the car, glancing at the driver’s side before Suji drives off.

Suji pulls over in a remote area and opens the taxi trunk to reveal a bound and unconscious Jang-soo. She tells Kyung-soo to call the police since they can’t just let him loose to prey on someone else. Kyung-soo and Bomi are skeptical since they still haven’t found any evidence to tie him to his past crimes, but Suji has figured out that Jang-soo stole something from his first victim, Se-in.

Rewind to Jang-soo leaning over his unconscious fare, when Suji had shown up and knocked him out cold with a quick punch and kick. She found the necklace he took from this woman and realized that he must have also taken Se-in’s necklace (which had been missing when she died) as a souvenir, then pawned it off much later.

Kyung-soo posts a message looking for the jewelry on every social media site, and sure enough, a woman recognizes it. The next day, the news reports that a civilian came forward with a crucial piece of evidence (the necklace) and Jang-soo was once again arrested on charges of robbery and rape.

As an added bonus (or problem?) the woman that Suji saved comes forward. Apparently that one glance at the driver’s side was enough for her to identity Suji and now the news has a new spin on their story: The fugitive Jo Suji rescued a girl from a released sex-offender before he could re-offend.

Do-han watches the news, thinking about Suji’s “confession” and how she wished she could see her daughter in her dreams. He looks over at his evidence wall, staring at Suji’s picture, and murmurs, “This is just the beginning. I can’t let you do what you want.”

At his school, Shi-wan walks into a silent classroom and finds his desk littered with pictures of famous psychopaths. I’m not sure if this kid is capable of emotion, but he looks hurt by the photos. Se-won, Soon-ae’s daughter, watches his reaction closely.

Assemblywoman CHAE HYE-SUN (Song Sun-mi) makes an appearance outside the Prosecutors’ Office, arriving amidst a sea of reporters. She addresses the cameras, coolly stating that the prosecutors owe the public a straight answer in regards to the fugitive Jo Suji, and if her claims about her daughter being murdered are true, then Chief Prosecutor Yoon has no right to become attorney general.

Security tries to prevent Assemblywoman Chae from entering the building, but the poor guy is no match for her Laser Eyes of Justice and the wall of reporters behind her. Do-han watches all of this from within the building and reports it back to Yoon, who looks vaguely unhappy at the woman’s appearance.

Grandma is working at her restaurant when she gets a call from none other than Suji. Ducking around a corner, Grandma answers the phone pretending that she’s talking to a friend to keep the two detectives siting nearby from getting suspicious. Mother and daughter are both wiping away tears as Suji apologizes for calling so late.

Still hiding form the detectives, Grandma casually mentions that she put a beautiful framed drawing up on the wall, smiling as she says it’s a family heirloom. Up on the wall, we can see that she framed and mounted the picture that little Yoo-na had drawn of her mom catching bad guys.

We flash back to better times, when Suji had carried a sleeping Yoo-na home the day she picked her up from the center. She’d shown Grandma the drawing her daughter had made, bursting with pride. Joking, Suji had told Grandma to have it framed since she was going to make it a family heirloom. Back in the present, Suji smiles to realize that Grandma is talking about Yoo-na’s picture.

Suji asks Grandma to wait just a bit longer since she still has to keep her promise to Yoo-na. Grandma is barely holding back her sobs as she quietly apologizes, saying it’s all her fault (since she lost Yoo-na that day). Suji cries harder, insisting that it’s not. She tells her mother that they shouldn’t say the word sorry to each other anymore, because the people who hurt their family will be the ones saying sorry. Grandma can only nod weakly into the phone.

Suji returns to Kyung-soo’s lair and she gives him her phone, saying she used the hacking skills he taught her. Oooh! We rewind to her encounter with the priest, and she had set her phone to clone his during their conversation, the same way Kyung-soo had cloned Woo-sung’s. Very smooth.

Kyung-soo plugs it in and the call record shows that the priest had been the one to text Bomi a warning, alerting them before the cyber team could catch Kyung-soo. Suji shares her theory that the priest is a smokescreen, while their real boss is actually someone very close to the investigation hunting them.

Sweet Kyung-soo thinks it doesn’t matter since the boss saved them before they were caught, but Suji spells it out for him: The boss used them as bait for his own purposes, sending the police after them, then saving them at the last minute.

Kyung-soo and Bomi start to panic, wondering if everything they’ve been told is a lie. The boss had promised both of them revenge, and Bomi frets that she’s been waiting for her turn, while Kyung-soo worries that he has someone to find. Suji answers that the only way to uncover the truth is to find the boss. It’s enough to push Kyung-soo into starting a trace on their mysterious leader’s phone number.

Do-han returns to his car and gets a call from a secret phone in his glove compartment. It’s the priest calling and as Do-han answers, Suji, Kyung-soo, and Bomi listen in on the call. The priest reports that he sent Do-han’s message, but he worries that “that woman” is onto them, revealing that he met Suji.

Do-han immediately asks if the priest had his phone on him. Upon confirmation, Do-han grimaces, telling him to toss the cell. He then hangs up and removes the SIM card from his secret phone, crushing it under his car tires as he drives away.

The lookouts don’t know who the priest is talking to, but luckily, Kyung-soo still managed to pinpoint Do-han’s location, and all three reel to hear that the call came from the Prosecutors’ Office. Looks like Suji’s theory was spot-on. Just then, Bomi gets a delivery from the boss.

Bomi retrieves the envelope and reads the note: There are three suspects. Find the real culprit. The pictures of the three suspects flutter to the floor as Bomi starts to have flashbacks of her family’s attack, hyperventilating to remember her murdered parents and her sister’s terror as she was dragged away.

Bomi sends the photos to the other two, but Suji wants to focus on finding the Boss, since this could be yet another trap. Bomi cuts her off, “I’m doing this. It’s not a trap. Even if it is, I don’t care.” Suji realizes that this case must be related to her, and Bomi recites in a dead voice, “November 15, 2012. A murder case broke out…”

On November 12, 2012, a bright-eyed and bushy-tailed Bomi is in high school. She cheerfully rolls her skirt up a few inches and puts make-up on, but she’s promptly caught by her older sister when she exits the school. The two of them banter as only sisters can, with Unni taking back the make-up as Bomi whines that she’s old enough to wear it.

Bomi runs home to her family’s restaurant, dodging the delivery guy as she flounces up to her dad to ask for ten bucks. Her mom quickly hustles over to tell Dad not to give her money, as she’ll use it to buy make-up she’s not allowed to wear. Apparently this is an old argument as Bomi pouts at her mom and Dad smiles good-naturedly at the pair of them. Even the restaurant chef joins in the fun, needling at Mom to let Bomi have the cosmetics.

Mom remains firm and Bomi stomps out, passing her uncle along the way. Back in the restaurant, a U.S. Army soldier takes note of the very full cash register.

Oh no. Late that night, Bomi stumbles out of her room and walks by her parents’ room. Through the open door, she sees the American soldier holding wads of money… while another figure stabs her father in the gut. On the bed, Mom is already dead with a stab wound to the chest.

Bomi backs away in shock and the soldier yells at his partner that they were only supposed to rob the place, not kill anyone. Bomi dashes to her sister’s room and Unni snaps awake at Bomi’s crying. She hands her the phone and quickly pushes Bomi under the bed, whispering for her to call the police.

Unni goes to close the bedroom door, but it suddenly bursts open. The attacker laughs, “You?” then he knocks her down and Bomi watches in horror as her sister is dragged out of the room.

Bomi fumbles with the phone, but her sister screams once from the hallway, then the soldier’s voice echoes, calling his partner crazy for killing the daughter. Bomi trembles under the bed, as her family’s killer walks out of the apartment.

Sometime later, she manages to crawl out from under the bed and sees her sister’s body in the hallway, a pool of blood on the floor. She slowly reaches up and closes the bedroom door, shutting herself in the room and sobbing against the door.

In the present, Bomi continues her story, “…Two robbers walked in and killed the entire family except for one. That’s me.”

EPISODE 12 RECAP

Do-han visits Prosecutor Oh, and it looks like exile is treating him very well since he has a cushy job as a lawyer in a beautiful office. (I guess we should call him Lawyer Oh now.) Full of his charismatic smarm, Do-han says that the forced resignation was actually a blessing in disguise. Oh remarks that Do-han achieved his dream of becoming close to Chef Prosecutor Yoon, but he doesn’t seem to bear a grudge against his old protégé.

Do-han laments that Oh is so gracious to not hold any ill will towards the chief prosecutor, sighing that if only Yoon felt the same…. This piques Lawyer Oh’s curiosity perfectly, and Do-han shares a rumor he heard that Yoon plans to get rid of anyone who could cause him problems before his election hearing. Lawyer Oh isn’t worried, until Do-han gives him a look.

Lawyer Oh remembers a conversation he had with Chief Prosecutor Oh five years ago. Turns out, Bomi’s family case fell under Oh’s prosecution. With the presidential elections just around the corner, Chief Prosecutor Yoon had worried about the repercussions of charging a member of the U.S. Armed Forces, so Oh had asked what he wanted him to do.

Returning to current day, Lawyer Oh relates the story to Do-han, and Do-han surmises that Oh “belonged” to Yoon since that day, so he must have a lot of dirt on the man. He advises Oh to stay quiet and not draw attention to himself.

In her room, Bomi tells the others that the prosecution on her family’s case stalled, and the main suspect fled the country. Without him, they never found the accomplice and the investigation stopped. Soon after, all trace of the case disappeared.

Suji urges her to rethink going after this, since the boss could be manipulating her desire for revenge to suit his own plans. Bomi argues that she’ll just use him back. Hearing her determination, Suji agrees to work the case. Kyung-soo jumps onboard as well, and Bomi looks touched at their support.

That night, Kyung-soo researches Bomi’s family’s murder, sighing to see the proof of her tragedy. He calls her and gently asks if this is the reason why she can’t leave her room, because she’s scared that the culprit could be anybody. The “scared” bit ruffles her feathers, and Bomi snarks back that she’s not scared — she’s just comfortable indoors.

Kyung-soo adds that there must be so many places she wants to go but can’t. (Oh boy, stop while you’re behind.) Not realizing that he’s just rubbing salt in the wound, Kyung-soo is caught off-guard when Bomi starts yelling at him that she doesn’t want to leave. He yells back that he was just worried about her, and soon they’re both shouting through their phones until Bomi hangs up.

Kyung-soo tosses his phone away, then hangs his head, muttering that that wasn’t how it was supposed to go. He actually apologizes to the phone, half-yelling, “Sorry for saying all those things without thinking it through!” Pffft. Dummy.

Suji strolls by, casually noting that isn’t the right way to apologize. Kyung-soo pouts that he was trying to be nice, but Bomi got mad at him. Suji suggests giving her a present instead, though Kyung-soo doesn’t know what to give someone who never leaves their room. She tells him to think about what Bomi would like, which leaves him even more confused than before and fussing that his head hurts.

By herself, Bomi remembers when she was interviewed after her family’s murder. She identified a picture of the U.S. soldier, but couldn’t give any information about his accomplice aside from the detail that he was wearing sneakers and his voice sounded familiar.

Afterwards, she hides in the bathroom and overhears two policewomen discussing her family’s case. One of the women remarks that if her whole family was murdered, she would wish that she’d died with them. In the stall, Bomi silently weeps, looking like she agrees with the woman.

Soon-ae picks up her daughter, Se-won, at her school. Se-wan sees Shi-wan in the rearview mirror and hesitantly asks her mom if she’s sure that Yoo-na was murdered. Soon-ae wonders why she’s so curious, and Se-won mutters that it doesn’t seem like Shi-wan could have done something so terrible. Soon-ae warns her daughter to be careful of him, calling him more dangerous than he appears.

Little does she know, that dangerous boy is watching the pair of them as he leaves the school. Unconcerned, he keeps walking, but suddenly stops to remember that Soon-ae was there when Suji held him hostage. Soon-ae’s car drives past him, and the little psycho grins the creepiest smile.

Shi-wan returns home to find his mom hosting a few of her friends, and the women compliment Mom on her handsome son. He acts every inch the perfect son, but seeing his smile makes Mom uneasy. She asks him if something happened at school and Shi-wan maintains his small smirk, saying, “Just something interesting.” To her credit, Mom looks as creeped out as I am.

Do-han meets with Chief Prosecutor Yoon to assure him that Assemblywoman Chae poses no threat to him, since even if they re-open the investigation into Yoo-na’s death, they won’t find anything. He tries the stir the pot by hinting that the opposing sides may try to sway Lawyer Oh to help them, since Yoon cast him out. The ploy fails, though, as Yoon brushes the idea off. As Do-han walks out, he overhears Yoon make a call to someone, saying, “I need you to step up again.”

Do-han rides the elevator down, then walks headfirst into Eun-joong outside the doors. Eun-joong guesses that he was just doing damage control with Chief Prosecutor Yoon, but Do-han waves away the accusation, coyly noting that Eun-joong seems to be stalking him.

Eun-joong warns that he can’t talk his way out of this one, since the media is watching Jo Suji’s case so closely. Do-han just gives another grin, sidling up as he assures Eun-joong that they all want the same thing: to catch Jo Suji.

Our three musketeers look into the first suspect from Bomi’s case, her uncle. Kyung-soo trails the man as he goes on a shopping spree, then remotely activates the mall’s fire alarm, using the ensuing chaos to nick, clone, and return Uncle’s phone. Clever.

Kyung-soo reports back that Uncle has become rich in the last five years, after he pretended to be acting for Bomi in order to sell her family’s restaurant in her name.

The other two suspects are the chef, Yang Dae-chul, who has since opened his own restaurant in another town, and the restaurant’s delivery boy, Kang Jin-gu, who disappeared after the murders. The chef is currently in the hospital, so the team decides to investigate Uncle for now.

Suji instructs Kyung-soo to continue tailing Uncle. The poor kid whines about being on foot patrol, but Suji sweetly reminds him the he was the one who told her to avoid CCTVs since the whole city is searching for her. Heh, he agrees, demonstrating the very definition of “grin and bear it.”

Bomi spies on her uncle that night, using the camera from his hacked phone. As she watches, Kyung-soo calls her to show her something. He sends her a video and aww! Its different shots of her hometown. Kyung-soo went walking around her entire neighborhood, talking videos of where she used to live.

As Bomi watches, speechless, Kyung-soo calls her on her lie that she didn’t want to see her home again. He says that even if the people and friends are gone, even when there’s no one there to welcome you, places and homes still hold memories. Tears pool in Bomi’s eyes as the video starts to show snippets of her old apartment complex, but unfortunately, the images stir up memories of her family’s attack.

Kyung-soo offers for them to solve the case together so Bomi can return home, but that’s the wrong thing to say given the trauma she experienced there, and she snaps that she doesn’t want to go out. She ends the call and puppy Kyung-soo is left sputtering that she hung up on him again. Oiy vey.

As the night deepens, both Suji and Kyung-soo fall asleep. Only Bomi remains awake, watching her uncle via his hacked phone, so she’s the only one to see the intruder dressed in black enter Uncle’s apartment. Crap!

The man calmly crouches on top of the sleeping Uncle and starts strangling him. Uncle awakens, choking, and the man demands, “Where is Seo Bomi?” Bomi’s eyes widen and she stares while her uncle tries to eke out that he doesn’t know where his niece is. The man growls at him to stop lying, saying he won’t fall for it this time. (This time?)

Uncle croaks out that he really doesn’t know, but the man just squeezes harder, growling, “We’ll find out soon enough. When her uncle dies, the niece is duty-bound to attend the funeral.” With that, he crushes the last breath out of Uncle, and Bomi can do nothing but watch as her uncle’s feet slowly stop kicking.

Bomi calls Suji, but she’s too panicked to do more than gasp out, “The killer. I know who it is.” Suji yells her name, but Bomi is hyperventilating too much to answer. She quickly calls Kyung-soo and tells him to trace Bomi’s phone, revealing that Uncle is dead. Suji rewinds the recording to witness Uncle’s murder, and sees that his attacker then strung Uncle up to make it look like a suicide.

Kyung-soo finds Bomi’s address and Suji runs off to make sure the girl is okay, instructing Kyung-soo to find out where the killer went after leaving Uncle’s apartment.

Suji races to Bomi’s building, while Kyung-soo heads to Uncle’s apartment building. He’s able to hack the CCTV footage into the parking garage, but the attacker isn’t showing up. Spying a car near the building entrance, he breaks in and hacks the car’s black box.

Kyung-soo sits in the car, waiting for the video to load, then gets the bejesus scared out of him when the car’s drunken owner pops up from the back seat. Luckily the guy mistakes Kyung-soo for a designated driver and slurs out his home address before passing out again. Pah.

Kyung-soo sneaks out of the car and watches the video, which confirms that the attacker hasn’t left yet.

Kyung-soo wanders through the parking garage, when suddenly he sees the attacker sitting in an SUV. Showing an alarming lack of tact, Kyung-soo goes wide-eyed and quickly spins around. The sudden movement catches the man’s attention and he gets out to follow as Kyung-soo shuffles away.

Kyung-soo tries to convince himself that the man didn’t see him, but he peeks over his shoulder and sees the guy right behind him. He starts to have a mini-freakout, then breaks into a run. The man in black gives chase, pulling a knife out of his jacket.

COMMENTS

No! Do not hurt my Kyung-soo! You hear me, Show? I forbid it! You already took Yoo-na, leave the adorable puppy hacker alone. Grrrr.

But poor Bomi! I knew that whatever happened in her past had to have been bad since it was traumatic enough to force her into her hermit-style hiding, but I hadn’t suspected it was this bad. To watch her whole family murdered right in front of her, then the added pain of survivor’s guilt combined with the injustice of her family’s killer(s) going free? I now completely understand how she transformed from that cheerful, innocent girl into the jaded young woman we know. And, on top of that, she once again could only watch as her last remaining blood relative was strangled to death, virtually in front of her. I really hope Suji can find a way to break into her impressively locked apartment because this girl needs a hug, stat.

In spite of its tragic nature, I glad that we’re starting to find out the backstory of at least of one of our surveillance-duo, and I especially appreciate Kyung-soo’s efforts to help Bomi. As the extrovert in their relationship, it makes sense that Kyung-soo would be the first to reach out, wanting to find some way to connect with her and get her out of the hermit-cave. That video he made for her was just beautiful and I was sad that it failed to help when he put such thought and effort into it. Still, the boy has a lot to learn and I was happy to see him turn to Suji for advice. He’s still young, and Suji is a parent without a child, so it felt so natural for the two of them to gravitate towards each other.

Strangely, I’m getting more curious about Shi-wan and his father. It seems that Yoon has spun a very tangled web in his rise to power, and Do-han’s carefully assembled team all have grievances to bear against the chief prosecutor. And yet, Yoon still has this air of righteousness about him as he constantly puts down Lawyer Oh and Do-Han, dismissing them as crooked prosecutors or social climbers and acting like his is the squeakiest of clean records. He once spouted the idea of a respected Prosecutors’ Office, yet in the same breath, decided to bury the murder of a seven-year-old girl to preserve that image. And what is with his constant lack of expression? It’s like he’s trying to become the personification of the very justice system that he’s promoting: A perfect serene mask hiding a core of corruption.

Yet the sins of the father are eclipsed by the son, since Shi-wan has already surpassed Daddy Dearest in the creep factor. He definitely has his father’s ability to mask his emotions, but then that psychotic grin pops out and I swear my shivers get shivers. This kid legitimately scares me because I just can’t get a handle on him. What is it that he wants? As far as I can tell, he hasn’t killed anyone since Yoo-na, which makes her a special case. So what was it that set him off? And how much does his mother know? She’s starting to look scared around him, but I can’t tell if she’s sacred for her son, or scared of him.

Argh! How is it that this episode answered more questions than any other, and yet I’m left with more questions than ever?

The thing with the entire Do-Han/Suji dynamic is that I believe she is making him more human towards the team. After years of stringing along Bomi, after Sujis confession about her daughter (which really got to him, due to the fact that he actually thought about it) he decides to finally give her the justice she has been craving. True, he was probably also doing this so they wouldn't rebel against him, but I also see it as Suji making him see the team in a more human light as opposed to pawns in his game.

He decides to get justice for Bomi right when the trio is starting to question his leadership. How awfully convenient ?? I do agree that Suji probably poked his conscience enough for it to come out a bit, but I still anticipate when she finally finds out who he is and gives him a good whacking. Poor Bomi! I'm hoping that in the next week's episodes they finally provide explanation for why she and Kyung-soo are so loyal to their mysterious leader. How long would they have waited for him to get justice for them if Suji hadn't started them to doubt him?

I am thoroughly and eagerly awaiting this meeting between Do Han and Suji I am so keen to see her whoop his ass. But it does kinda suck that the conscious is growing as the team starts to loss faith in him.

But he had that coming.

He definitely had it coming after that stunt with nearly entrapping Kyungsoo. Like you, I really can't wait for Suji and Dohan to meet. I want to see her really tear into him.

You know, I was thinking about the last episodes' comments regarding why Kyungsoo and Bomi did not question their leader until Sooji brought it up, and I think it may simply be because they are both younger. Assuming they joined the team a few years before Sooji, they both could have been in their teens still. And young people usually do not question authority and follow orders. Sooji being older, an adult, a cop, she can be on the same level as their leader and yes, acts and thinks more independently, to Dohan's exasperation. Dohan was dealing with kids, he is now dealing with an equal, so the team dynamics is definitely changing/shifting. Hence his role as a leader could be in jeopardy unless he makes some changes. My two cents on this.

Good point. And they were not only young, but also desperate - a susceptible combo. Kyung Soo and Bo Mi didn't have caring families or close friendships to get them through it all. No one heard them or wanted to listen to them. But Do Han did. Sure his motives aren't pure and he dangled that carrot forever, but at least he gave them hope and purpose and a not-so-bad way to make a living.

I know right! I'm glad Suji's actions forced his hand in giving Bomi what she so desperately wanted so he can provide his loyalty after Bomi and Kyungsoo so blindly pledged theirs.

I do wonder why he waited. Wouldn't it better guarantee Bomi's loyalty if he had helped her first? Was he waiting for someone like Suji to join the team first?

I am not sure how much "physical action" work Bomi and Kyungsoo did before Sooji joined them, if any. Maybe they were just gathering data, monitoring, reporting...They obviously depend on her to do the catching and fighting/confrontation stuff, so maybe when she joined is when they actually started going after bad guys. Without Sooji, how would Bomi and Kyungsoo have gone about catching the culprits?! Bomi doesn't go out, and Kyungsoo is a hacker, not a combatant...so as Dohan said, maybe this is really the beginning now that he has his minions in place...did he plan it? Was it just a coincidence that Sooji would be recruited? Was it simply fate? The world does work in mysterious ways! Anyways, can't wait to see what's in store for us! We are so spoiled with good shows lately!

Yep, he definitely tossed the team (specifically Bomi) a bone after hearing from the priest that Suji's onto him. He knew they'd start doubting and questioning, so before they cut him loose, he decided to remind them about the reason why they're all doing this in the first place--to get their chance at justice for their loved ones.

Another point I forgot to mention, this show has undoubtedly had many emotional moments in it, but the scene with Bomi got me the most.
When she closed the door on her sisters corpse, so she no longer sees it, and it reminded of something I heard a while ago on a YouTube video "That it is better to close the door and turn away, than point towards it and acknowledge the fire burning on the other side."

I won't pretend to have gone through something like she did, but I know the feeling of loosing someone and 'closing the door', shutting myself off, and grabbing onto something, rage or revenge (like her trying to catch the villains), because anything is better than the grief and anguish that awaits on the other side. Because blinding yourself and turning to the path of vengeance is a lot less painful than what lies on the other side of the door.

Random thoughts for episodes 11/12:
-OKAY THAT DID NOT JUST HAPPEN…. I HAVE TO WAIT A WEEK FOR THIS? KYUNG-SUU! Okay now I’m just being dramatic lol but whyyyyy
-From the beginning, the three musketeers save one more soul. I love this team so much because of their teamwork. They work so well together (though there is a bit of arguing…**Soo-Ji & Bo-Mi** LOL). They all care for each other so much and together are willing to do anything for each other. I need friends like them LOL
-OOOOOH THAT HACKING TRICK THAT SOO-JI PULLED OHMYGOD This show is full of plot twists. Gosh I’m so confused… I’m so confused on what Do-Han wants to accomplish by the end of this series. He’s so secretive about everything. I think he should tell someone mainly because they would get screen time and then we would find out LOL
-This episode pulled on my heartstrings every which way. I swear everytime Soo-Ji talks about Yu-Na I lose it. And when Soo-Ji’s mom blames herself… I just can’t. I can’t imagine losing your child then becoming a fugitive is like. I admire Soo-Ji so much. The fact that after everything she is still fighting for justice after everything that has happened to her. It’s amazing how she’s able to do this. Bo-Mi’s story made me bawl. She lost both of her parents and her sister over money?? Just because a couple of guys wanted money three HUMANS lost their lives. The reason she stays in her room is so sad. My heart aches every time her flashbacks show up on the screen. That video that Kyung-Su made was beautiful and I cried watching that entire sequence. It was so heartbreaking that she couldn’t even see the place she use to live without thinking about her parents and sister.
-Shi-Wan scares me so much with that little smirk of his. I’m scared for the cop’s daughter and if he does anything to her, that better not pass, his mother better not do anything to hide it, Shi-Wan better do time for what he’s done. “Something fun” happened at school??? That boy is a psycho. He better get caught soon, but then again this is only the 6th episode.

About Shi-wan so far his motives are the most obscure out of all key players. I am guessing his vendetta has something to do with police officers in general. He only ever reacted to both Su-ji and Soon-ae when he came to know that they are cops. I am very curious to know what he has against them; it feels to calculated to just be mindless violence.

I didn't think of that aspect but that makes a lot of sense. That some certain encounter with police officers caused something that Shi-Wan is extremely affected by that he would go to those extremes. I'm really curious to know what happened too...

Whatever it was, I'm betting it has something to do with his dad. Plus his dad not really caring about him isn't helping matters. I pity his mom, she knows her son is dysfunctional but I'm not sure she's aware of how much of a ticking time bomb he is. Hope the other cop's daughter stays safe??

You fangirl at the same level that I do which resounds in me on so many levels I cannot deal XD I came late to the party buuuut. You fangirling is one of the best things XD

I admire all of the characters to be honest I noticed a comment somewhere below that talked about how hard it must have been for Do Han all these years working towards one revenge. So much that he threw away parts of his humanity... Which does kinda remind me back to when we were introduced to him, from what it looks like he has been working towards his revenge for a very long time. Which could mean it started before he even left his home town....

I am honestly hoping for some actually raw feelings coming out of this character, our hubby is doing such a good job at masking them.... It is kinda annoying XD

Kyung-soo and Bo-Mi are love! I hope they manage to get her out of her room soon and somewhere safe (maybe Kyung-soo's headquarters?). I want this team working together asap!
Speaking of, a reckoning between Su-ji and Do-han can't be far away now. They need to meet up and put some of their cards on the table if they want catch the Prosecutor. As it stands, Do-han keeping Su-ji and the team in the dark about his end goal is just counterproductive as they will keep questioning his motives and working against orders. Once they all lay down their guards against each other and learn trust, there will no stopping this team! And I for one am getting the popcorn ready!

Thoughts:
1. Poor Bomi. That was about as horrific as you can get in regards to backstory short of gang rape and torture. She's basically terrified because the cops/prosecution did a terrible job keeping it a secret that someone in the family survived the murders.
2. Possible plot hole though: If the killer was known to the family, surely they knew the family had two daughters and would have torn the house apart looking for #2?
3. Either way, totally understandable that she's hiding and is just watching life go by without participating. Even were the killer to be caught, would she be able to leave or would she be so distrusting because of all the horrible things she's watched while supporting the Crew?
4. Oh, Kyung-Soo. Try not to die, kiddo. Please? We need your levity considering everyone else in the Crew is clearly broken and/or grim.
5. It's a bit too convenient how quickly Soo Ji catches on to everything. I cant' tell if the writer or director is taking shortcuts with the script or the editing but it makes Soo Ji come off like the second coming of Sherlock sometimes and it's just a bit too easy for her to solve things.
6. I thought the editing at the front end of the episode 11 about the rapist was sloppy. Too many time skips and cutscenes here and there to track easily. Also, all the thrilling stunts we've had so far, it felt like Soo Ji got a break to heal this week because she basically showed up, clocked the guy twice, and called it a day. Very effortless on her part,.

Keep it coming Show, but keep raising the stakes. I want mortal peril for all.

2. Yes, the motive behind their attack was a little ambiguous. If the soldiers saw at the restaurant that there was money, why not rob the restaurant? Who would actually follow the restaurant owners and rob them at their home?!!! How did the soldiers become accomplices? Obviously the true objective was to kill the whole family under disguise of robbery...If they know Bomi is alive and missing, why did it take 5 years for the real culprit to kill the uncle, was he perhaps in jail and just got released? And how does the leader know all of this?!

Yes some of the elements seem too forced to get the story going, so that we just have to accept how things are developing and let Sooji do all the thinking/realizations... I don't know if at the end there will be a big reveal of how everything was meant to come together, the leader's super plan which took years in the planning and is now just being implemented (Dohan saying this is just the beginning) or if the holes will just be ignored. It is still a great show, and yes as CandidClown said, more questions just keep coming, but that is to me how a thriller should be, it should keep you questioning, and we just hope everything can make sense.

That congresswoman is so bold and I loveeee it.

Kyung Soo’s apology video made my heart melt!! It was the effort that counted!!

So the killer's of Bo MI's family were Americans right? Well atleast one of them? And they were able to escape because of the prosecutors? Did these prosecutors even do anything that wasn't corrupt. But how does the priest know that the prosecutor made all these mistakes?

Kyung Soo's apology video was just so perfect. He really thought about what Bomi would want most.

The priest is friends with DoHan, also a prosecutor, which is how he got that info. Suji was smart to notice that a prosecutor must be the leader since a priest wouldn't have access to that sort of info.

The congresswoman also seems suspicious to me (is she truly righteous or does she just want to defeat Yoon?), but at least she is making things difficult for Yoon.

This episode was definitely Bomi's, and to some extent Kyung-soo's episode. I can't wait to learn his story too. Bomi's situation is so heartbreaking, the scene where she closes the door quietly made me so sad. I've never actually doubted Kim Seul-gi's acting abilities but those silent tears were on a different level. Kyung-soo is such a sweetheart, I like how he acts like mediator between the girls and I love that he worries about Bomi and wants to do nice things for her, you're right, show better not hurt him or we will have words.
I'm so ready for that creepy son of a biscuit eater to go down already. How did a young boy get so twisted?
Thanks for the recap.

I love Key. Loved his performance in Drinking Solo, and that's when I became a huge admirer of his and of Shinee. However, I never really felt connected to his character until this episode.

When he was expressing his sympathy to house-bound Bomi, when he walked around town to film her favorite haunts, I fell in love with the character, Kyung Soo. It was really very sweet of him to do that. As it was said in the earlier recap, the males of the vigilante group are painted in very broad strokes so it is hard to connect to them. I've little doubt that when we get to know Kyung Soo's background, I'll get to love his character even more.

Why do i fear that Shi Wan will think Se Won put those pics on his desk or is keeping tabs on him telling to her Mom and will harm her when we clearly see she still thinks he is not the one and mostly because she liked him...I somehow think she will be the trigger to catch him and show his true face...My heart ached so much for Bomi and was enraged when she was listening to those disgusting ladies in the bathroom saying she sould have died with her family...The poor girl should have words of support and councelling not to feel like it's her fault she is alive, that is just inhuman...She sure has survival's guilt aside from fear...It was extremely moving seeing Kyung Soo trying to get close to her and try to heal her wonds just as i applouse Soo Ji not loosing her humanity for revenge..I'm sure the two will choose to follow her in the end when they will have to choose...
I actually feel bad for Do Han as he clearly choose to throw part of his humanity for the sake of his revenge that clearly consumed his soul, how hard must be living like that years and years...I'm curious if he will be able to regain his life after he get's his long lasted revenge because he sure will have to pay a price for it...I guess we could say him and Soo Ji are parts of the same coin, light and darkness...

This murderer better not even touch Kyung Soo. Or else I will be a very very very unhappy viewer. Honestly, after what had happened with Bomi, I am feeling even more sympathetic and understanding of her situation. We finally know more about her past, despite it being a very grim one. I can't believe her whole family died over money. Now, I'm not one bit surprised that she chose to stay in her room and not come out. It was nice for Kyung Soo to try to console her which leads to... I love this cute bickering relationship between Bomi and Kyung Soo, so this show better not wreck my favorite couple. As for Suji, I can only say continue what you're doing. Her personality is strong and that cloning trick was well done. Do Han has me a little more on edge since he is clearly a clever manipulator. I hope he can soon find a way to work with the team, but that is just my opinion. Lastly, Shi Wan is starting to creep me out with his weird smiles and smirks. Even his mom looks unsettled. I'm really curious as to why he turned out like this, but I'll guess that will have to wait. Please don't touch Kyung Soo.

Thank you for the recap CandiClown! It is too soon for puppy to go, we still need to find out about his backstory, so I am not worried about him...yet! But please let him get away safely and whole!

I am glad Bomi is the first case to hopefully be solved soon. The girl needs to get out and hopefully having her identity uncovered is the first step for our vigilante team to really work "together". I want to see Bomi, Kyungsoo and Sooji in one room, trusting each other and working together! Now if we can get the leader in there too I think our team will be able to accomplish their goals with more harmony and less chaos.

I agree there is definitely something that must be triggering ShiWan's fascination with Sooji and Soonae...is it that they are both cops, females, single moms??! It is hard to say if Yuna's murder was premeditated by ShiWan or just happened to be an opportunity for him. If not that day, would he have acted on another occasion or actually planned/targeted Yuna at some other time? With SeWon, it seems that he is definitely looking and thinking/getting ideas... His mom definitely knows what he is...I don't want anything to happen to anyone else, but at the same time, unless there is another incident/case, he probably won't get caught...so hoping that both father and son will get their just ends...the mom, I am not sure, losing both her husband and son might be punishment enough...

Chief Prosecutor Yoon is cold, calculating, & manipulative. He's the type to expect his minions to pick things up by inference, as he is never going to clearly tell them what to do. It keeps his hands clean and it ensures that he can honestly say that he never told them to do that. I think Shi-wan saw through him ages ago (I wouldn't be surprised if he watched dad overseeing some illegal act) and mimics this method. He just uses his innocent and vulnerable act, like his dad uses lectures on being righteous, hardworking prosecutors.
Do-Han has been playing a long game. I actually think it was reasonable to wait until the team was formed and working before tackling Bomi's and Kyung soo's cases. It also gave Bomi time to develop some strength. I don't consider Do-Han to be cold. We've seen a few instances where Do-Han's facade has cracked enough to show that he has a heart. He is great at manipulating through distraction. I think Kim Young-kwang is doing an excellent job in this role.

This script writer loves to play with Kyung Soo's life. Last episode, he could've been imprisoned and now a murderer is chasing him.

I was happy when Kyung Soo tracked Do Han's phone. Until last episode, it seemed like it didn't occur to Do Han before that he was working with real people, whose lives depend on him. I felt like he showed for the first time genuine emotions when Soo Ji talked about her daughter.

But how much longer will he able to hide? Kyung Soo and Soo Ji should be able to catch him very soon.

And why does it always look like he's (almost) flirting with Eun Joong?

On a completely unrelated note, why does Kim Young Kwang suddenly look more handsome with glasses and a sweatshirt?

@candidclown is so true, the more I watch, the more questions I have. Who is the newly appearing congresswoman, is she another pawn of Do-han's? How did Do-han find out the 3 suspects of Bo-mi's case, is he in contact with Inspector Woo maybe..? Did he investigate in his spare time? And can't Bo-mi do this herself by snooping..? How did Kang Jin-gu got alerted at about it at the same time out team started moving? Etc, etc...

What great side characters. The show is giving us rounded characters with fully fleshed backstories, which makes for a more complex human drama with a tangled web of relationships. It's hard to predict what will happen next, except to know that developments are inexorably driving ahead to a climax.

While I agree that with a couple of posters that some of the plot turns seem a bit too convenient (Suji getting away too easily in the previous ep is an instance), when the editing, music and directing comes together, the show is slick and edge-of-your-seat stuff.

Can't wait to see what happens next. And for the epic showdown between Do Han and Suji.

Yeah so those are my thoughts about the episodes. I enjoyed them to be honest a lot! Probably one of my fav episodes so far. Probably because we got to learn more about the characters here than in any other episode.

We learnt about Bomi and her backstory and why she is the way she is. And we also have been given hints and clues to Kyung Soo's backstory which I am sooooo keen to look at. To be honest I am hoping and praying that the "female" that is waiting for Kyung Soo is his sister or something like that. Because I ship these two so hard I dont think you can deal. I have legit been shipping them since the promos came out and once I ehard about how their relationship works. Although I didn't have too high of hopes until right now. But if the show wants me to have a more brother and sister relationship between the pair I think I can deal.

It probably would be so heart wrenching, but if it is the case, and she is missing, could it end in a happy ending for him?! Please show, nothing too tragic for our puppy! Was she maybe a witness either Oh or Yoon wanted removed so she disappeared? Could she be living like Bomi? Argh, so many questions and speculations! For all we know it could end up being his sister or someone else...we just want our puppy to find a home, a good home!

0

He has been adopted by us the viewers~

0

Me too, I am not finding the meetings between Oh and Yoon or even Dohan and Yoon or Oh that grabbing. I am not feeling fear or dread, Yoon is impassive and Oh seems just too submissive/no back bone...while Dohan is just overly cheerful ... I am not feeling the intensity that them meeting should create? Shouldn't we feel more fearful of the baddest Chief Yoon?! I think ShiWan is more scary! Maybe Chief Yoon is just bad but not scary?

YES!!! I actually am more scared and feel more tense when Shi Wan is on the screen, he isn't afraid to get his hands dirty and I think in his mind there is a way he is justifying everything. His dad just seems like a little pussy cat next to his son. Which is actually really funny.

I think there will be more depth to everything Do Han does/has done/will do once we actually find out more about him. But without that backstory it seems very plain to me right now.

Thank you for the recap!

Auuuugh, the conversation between Suji and her mom. My heart. I also take back any advice previously given

Kyungsoo and Bomi! It's a bit funny how he does understand her to an extent and tries to do right by her, but messes up every time. Why would you go by the place her family was killed? That's not going to help, Kyungsoo! I'm glad we're finally learning more about the other team members and their stories. Bomi's was just heartbreaking, that poor girl.

I'm surprised still by how much I'm enjoying Kim Youngkwang in his role. I still can't wait for Suji to figure out it's Dohan; I love that she hacked the priest's phone to try and figure out who their mysteries leader. Dohan's obviously used to Kyungsoo and Bomi following his orders without question and Suji's not only refusing to do that, she's starting to sow the seeds of doubt in them that maybe their leader isn't some super righteous person after all.

Interesting you say that for me this drama needs to be watched just because there is a lot going on when just watching the actors and the way they interact which just can't be translated into words.

I really enjoyed these episodes as well, but certain things can be "too much" for some people. Perhaps they suffered in a way close to a character and it's painful to watch or perhaps there's an aspect that's just not something they enjoy viewing, but they still want to know how the story goes. Lookout isn't one of those shows for me, but I've had shows like that in the past myself that I've had to follow from a safe distance, so to speak lol.

Lookout had successfully made me cry like a fool in two episodes (one with the Yuna arc, okay who didn't cry?). This Bomi story is just so heart-wrenching Idk what to feel. As someone who had gone through house robbery (thank god it wasn't even a tenth violent as Bomi's) I totally could imagine how she decided to close that door instead of actually going out asking for help. And Idk i had always gives attention to the most little thing but my heart hurts so much when Unnie spontaneously asks Bomi to hide and gives her phone to her, like whatever happened you gotta be safe T_T Wish I have someone like that. And now, I couldn't wait for Suji, Kyungsoo, and Bomi to actually become a family to each other, Suji having someone she protects as she wasn't able to do that to her daughter, Bomi having someone to protect her, and whatever but Kyungsoo NEEDS these two ladies.

On a side note I was startled seeing
Assemblywoman CHAE HYE-SUN appearance.
Seeing her hair I got the impression of a much younger woman who aged dramatically .
I couldn't figure out if that was a dye job or grey hair.

Her appearance gave me the impression of a manga character adapted to live action.

In case you're wondering about this post I'm one of those who gets distracted by a characters hairstyle.
Example male leads dreadlocks in Prince of Lanling.

Why does Shi Wan hate cops? O.o His expression when she found out that his classmate's mom was Sooji's boss woman was creepy. O.o Also, of course his mom knows he's unhinged. O.o

Also, clueless Kyungsoo is both adorable and panic-inducing. T_T

Well, contrary to the popular opinion I really like Do Han. I like how he is so incredibly two-faced, and I love how he is totally invested in his revenge. I also kind of like that he doesn't let his moral compass get in the way! What an interestingly dual character.

I'm growing to like him too, though more as an interesting character rather than a character that I'd want to befriend and grab dinner with.

IKR. Do-Han is no typical k-drama hero. But the way he keep his personal feelings separated and steer his way toward his goal is quite impressive. We might need someone cold-blooded enough to lead us on the fight with those creepy murderers and corrupt officials.

Kim Seul-gi is so freaking amazing. I'm going to need someone to give her a lead role asap because she slays!

She's been so good in rom-coms, but in this drama, she got a chance to showcase her acting skills more. I love how she can light up and then darken down in a matter of seconds in the scene where she watched Kyun-Soo footage of her old neighborhood. Bo-Mi back story is so heartbroken though.

Thanks for the recap, CandidClown!

I really wonder whom Chief Prosecutor Yoon phoned. On one hand, I suspect it could be Prosecutor Park. Or might it be the restaurant delivery man who's been on the lam for five years? Did Delivery Man kill Bomi's uncle on his own, or was he ordered to do so by Yoon? (The timing is mighty suspicious. Might he have just gotten out of jail or some other institution?) Will Lawyer Oh be next? Do-han may have wanted to get his former boss away from the Chief Prosecutor for a reason: out of sight, out of mind. He might be concerned that Yoon could be planning a "housecleaning" spree. Lawyer Oh could be a prime target if he has five years' worth of dirt on his old boss.

I can't help but think that Shi-wan left the photos on his own desk. I have a feeling he was trying to provoke responses from his classmates. I really don't understand why he would do that (and feel grungy just trying to suss out his motives!). Maybe he simply enjoys creeping them out. Eliciting fear and loathing may be better than being totally ignored.

Bomi's backstory is really sad. Uncle sounds like a 24-karat schmuck, but he seems to be an opportunist after the fact, rather than the mastermind of a botched burglary. The delivery man from the restaurant seems to have impulse-control issues. I'm mighty curious as to the reason for his not having an identification number. Might that mean that he's a foreign national? If so, that could explain why he ran away after the family was murdered, especially if he is an illegal alien.

I find it very interesting that Chief Prosecutor Yoon's rationale for letting the murder investigation die on the vine is because of the impact it could potentially have on the impending presidential election. That suggests to me that he has a connection with one of the candidates, or is a really warped idealist who seeks to avoid influencing the election at all costs.

And what is it with Do-han's outrageous flirting with Prosecutor Kim? Is this foreshadowing more bromance than in MAN TO MAN?!?! LOL. ;-)

Thank you, @candidclown for the recap.

I'm all caught up with this show, so yay for that. Now I have to wait until Monday to find out what happens to poor Kyung-soo--oh man. Y'know, it never occurred to me that Kyung-soo would be so fidgety and scared when carrying out missions on feet, but of course, it's understandable and it only makes me worried for his safety even more.

I'm glad that Shi-wan's mom knows that her son is a little creep, but like, why is she hiding that from everyone? I mean, I know why, but I need her to realize that the only way to protect her son is to turn him in before he hurts someone else. I fear that his next target is Soon-ae's daughter. What's more unsettling than the creep's smile is how his mom is starting to notice the little things about him that unsettles her, and yet, she's just brushing it off and acts like nothing's wrong. Mom and Dad needs to sign up for Parenting Bootcamp, STAT!

I love the twist about Leader being Do-han, rather than the priest. I know Do-han's ultimately our good guy, but the guy's hell-bent on his own revenge plan that he's willing to do whatever it takes and use whoever's available, and I don't know how I feel about that because I don't want him to keep risking the safety of our vigilantes.

Idk who the new assemblywoman is, but I love her hair so much and I truly hope she's a righteous lady that's gonna help our Justice League. I like that she's targeting our main baddie and bringing Yoo-na's case to light again.

Love the trio and their bonds, just a year together and they are already a family for each other. That last scene had me yelling..oh no Kyung-Soo ya! Just pretend you know nothing, just walk out of there naturally. Poor Bo-Mi would only feel WORST if there's anything to happen to Kyung-Soo. I need them to finally meet face to face and work together as a real team.

BTW, Yoon Shi-Wan is the most scariest creature in the universe.
