Team Dramabeans: What we’re watching

It’s moving weekend for us at Dramabeans, which means I’m even more horribly behind on shows than I already was! Please excuse the lapse, since girlfriday and I are putting all our energies into making sure the new site works properly! Of course, that doesn’t mean I haven’t watched anything at all, since that would be crazy talk. –javabeans

javabeans

Strong Woman Do Bong-soon: Squeeing for days. I love this couple, and last weekend’s episodes were like a burst of candy in the veins. I anticipate some troubles on the horizon, which might bitter up that sweetness, but for now I’m content.

Father, I’ll Take Care of You: Finally, the truth is out and everybody knows things! I find I don’t mind the shrill, whiny characters half as much now that plot is actually going somewhere; it was the repetitive, static nature of the screechy angst that had me annoyed for the past month. I don’t think Hyun-woo is doing the justified thing in his revenge, but he makes such a valid point about not actively crushing anybody; he opened the door, and the Hans charged into it driven by their own greed and selfishness (and sometimes pried it open, begging for handouts). Their active hand in their own downfall is why I can’t really feel for their situation now, although Sung-joon really is the biggest victim in everything. Poor kid! He’s just too honorable to be happy if his family isn’t also happy, which means massive reconciliation has to be ahead.

Father Is Strange: I love how this family comes together at the end of the day, even if they can fight and bicker with the best of them. It’s the little moments that show that the love runs deep, like how the siblings all make sure to be home to support Oppa before his big exam, or how Mom and Dad are always there with special food for occasions. And I felt my heart pinch at Dad’s attempts to win over Lee Joon with food, and how Lee Joon is so stubborn about rejecting him. I just want him in that family so bad, because he’s so lonely, even if his pride would never in a million years let him admit it.

The Liar and His Lover: I just started up this show, and was pleasantly surprised with its light, breezy charm. I love how much it’s about music; it’s not just a part of these characters’ lives as a job or a hobby, but infused throughout the whole show, like a character on its own. And I’m finally glad to see Lee Hyun-woo finally playing a character that actually makes use of his acting talents!

Strong Woman Do Bong-soon: This show is so adorable. It meanders on tangents and ridiculous side stories from time to time, but once I see Bong-bong and Min-min together on screen, I forgive the show for everything. I know it’s coming, but I wish we could have gotten earlier and more comic book superheroine developments. I really have minimal complaints, though, since the show is a fun breezy watch that makes sure that the creepy and scary bits never outweigh the cute.

Superman Is Back: My mind isn’t ready to be invested in many shows right now, so I’ve been watching a lot of variety shows to fill my drama void without adding extra commitment or investment. This show is full of cute everyday moments with dads and kids, with the ugly parts of childcare mostly edited out. As long as they’re not my responsibility and the struggle is yours, I’m all for small wild humans!

odilettante

Currently recapping: Whisper

Tunnel: I’m much more interested in what happened to the 2016 Kwang-ho who’s mysteriously disappeared to make way for the 1986 Kwang-ho than I am in the main mystery. Can there be a moratorium on serial killers who only murder pretty young women? But I’m a sucker for the “buddy cop” genre, so I’m mostly sticking around for the inevitable “odd couple” bromance between Yoon Hyun-min and Choi Jin-hyuk.

SailorJumun

Currently recapping: The Liar and His Lover

Strong Woman Do Bong-soon: This. This show is so hysterical and adorable, it’s crazy. And Park Bo-young and Park Hyung-shik are totally killing their roles here. But I keep falling behind on episodes and I can’t figure out why. Perhaps the creepy kidnapper is a little too much for me at the moment.

Persevere, Gu Hae-ra: Thanks to The Liar and His Lover, I’ve been craving more music-themed youth dramas to get me through the week, and I decided to start with Persevere. It starred a few actors I really like, and it seemed fun enough — like a harmless folding-your-laundry kind of watch. Yeah. So then Episode 2 happened. WHY? She… But he… Gah, I don’t know how to feel about this. But I’m invested now, so I guess I have to keep watching.

HappilyEverAfter

Currently recapping: Mystery Queen

Strong Woman Do Bong-soon: Oh my goodness. Min-hyuk and Bong-soon are just too cute. I love the way he looks at her, like he’s just so utterly in love with her that he can’t stop staring. So much happiness in a non-finale week always makes me anxious about the future, though and I’m terrified for Kyung-shim but also just so afraid that Bong-soon will have to face Jang-hyun after she loses her powers. How is he going to make her hurt someone innocent? I mean she’s hurt Min-hyuk and even Gook-doo once or twice before… Does the rule only come into effect when she causes a big injury? I’ve never quite understood how this rule works — didn’t she hurt Secretary Gong pretty badly back when she first started working for the company? It would be so unfair for her to lose her powers just because it suits the plot.

Rebel: Thief Who Stole the People: There are aspects of this show that prevent me from getting fully immersed into this world, even though I really want to, which I think mainly has to do with the fact that nearly all of the characters often act like chess pieces instead of living, breathing people, but my god the music is spectacular. I’ve been thinking recently of how even though there are songs in recent dramas that I really like, there aren’t any that I necessarily feel like listening to on repeat all day, everyday. But with this show all the musical elements are done so masterfully that my days are filled with the soundtrack of the Hong clan. The scenes where the actors perform the songs themselves are so effective at setting the mood, and are executed with such taste and poignancy that I’m always moved even if I didn’t necessarily care for their voices. Like this week, when Eorini was singing and couldn’t explain why the song brought her such sorrow; that broke my heart. I think in this world, songs are messages and stories, and memories and dreams, but above all else they’re a prayer that the one who hears this song can understand the heart of the one who sings it.

Pinocchio: I just started watching this one since I missed it the first time, and in preparation for the writer’s upcoming new show. I was shocked by how thin and normal-sized Yoon Kyun-sang looks after seeing him in Rebel: Thief Who Stole the People where he looks like a giant, especially since I had no idea he was even in this drama. But I was even more shocked that Big Bro turned out the be a cold-blooded murderer. I love Dal-po and Grandpa’s relationship, and also Dad/Younger Bro’s grudging acceptance of his Hyung-nim, while still also being a huge softie at the end of the day. I know this shouldn’t be a factor, but it’s a little hard for me to go backward to this show from W—Two Worlds, especially since that was an Lee Jong-seok I had never seen before, whereas this one I feel like I have (except maybe the bad wig part, but that’s something I didn’t want to see. Thank god he got that haircut). I hope we get a fresh Lee Jong-seok in the new drama, but I suppose any Lee Jong-seok is still good television. I’m only about five episodes in but overall I think it’s fun and I’ll probably finish it.

Currently recapping: Tunnel

Mystery Queen: I can’t resist the premise of a clever amateur sleuth with a knack for solving cases and I have been looking forward to the premiere of this drama. I’ve only been able to catch the first episode, but I really like the casting of Choi Kang-hee in the lead role. There is sure to be lots of character growth for Seol-ok as she progresses from invisible housewife to a respected crime solver.

Our Gap-soon: Ugh, this show is a train wreck. It started around the same time as Laurel Tree Tailors, which ended up being a very sweet family drama. Such was not the case for Our Gab-soon, which continues to disappoint me with unsympathetic and selfish parents. The main couple has no chemistry and I stopped caring about them long ago. So why am I still watching this show? I actually want to see happy endings for Gap-soon’s siblings, the long suffering Jae-soon and Se-gye, plus the orphan turned chaebol Soo-jo. The veteran actors are what drew me to this show, but they were mostly wasted in this project. I’m just happy that it’s ending this weekend and that I’ll finally have my curiosity satisfied.

Father Is Strange: Lee Yuri is a hoot as Hye-young — that signature hair toss of hers gets me every time. I didn’t expect Lee Joon to be both funny and sympathetic, but he pulls off that combination well. What really gives this drama heart are the parents, played by Kim Young-chul and Kim Hae-sook, who are convincingly loving to each other and their children. Father Is Strange is a funny, yet warm, family drama to enjoy on the weekend.

Perfect Wife: This drama has been so unpredictable, which makes it fun to watch. I love the cast in this show, especially Sung Joon as Kang Bong-gu, and Jae-bok’s best friends. I have no idea how the story will be resolved, but I’m hoping that it will be a satisfying end to a consistently intriguing show.

tipsymocha

Tunnel: OCN is usually hit or miss for me, but I’m really digging Tunnel‘s vibe. It’s not too dark — serial killers running amok notwithstanding — and the humor adds a nice dimension. I’m also loving all of the interactions between the detective pairings. It feels like Choi Jin-hyuk is constantly trying to pick a fight with a brick wall, and the dumb-and-dumber partnership is my new favorite thing. I also liked that they brought a procedural element to the latest episodes, although I was surprised at how easily they caught the culprits, since this is OCN and I expected at least 5 different twists.

Strong Woman Do Bong-soon: Park Hyung-shik, you make me giddy and might actually be the cause if I end up with real heart problems by the end of this drama, but dude, you need to learn how to draw a proper heart. All kidding aside, I need this writer to stop it with the adult gangsters and the high school gangsters, and most importantly, the poop talk. It’s become inane, and based on some of the comments I read on the recap, also offensive. Let’s focus on the important things, shall we? Like kisses. And more kisses.

Youn’s Kitchen: This isn’t Na PD’s most outrightly funny work, but I’m enjoying it all the same. Call it escapism, but the tropical setting is just the antidote to, you know, reality. Jung Yumi is adorably attentive, Yoon Yeo-jung adorably frazzled, and Lee Seo-jin… is just Lee Seo-jin. But they work well together, and I’m excited to see Shin Gu halbae added to the mix next episode. In the meantime, I’ll just imagine myself on one of those daybeds on the beach, sipping a pineapple smoothie.

Wow, I gave up on JB and other staffs ever watching Liar and Lover. Guess it's never too late to hope. Haha.

Yassss! I love that drama. My current happy pill. Squish squish. I'm envious JB is just starting it, because that cliffhanger at the end of ep 6 had me dying.

Also watching SWDBS, Radiant Office (i like it a lot after the first 3 episodes), Whisper, and Tunnel and Mystery Queen.

Yes I'm happy that JB gave this little underrated gem a try. You just need to take that leap of faith with this one and this drama will swoop you right in. It sure swooped me in, it hits all the right spots.

It's not for everybody, but those for whom it works, works really well. Like javabeans said, it's integrating music really well within the storyline, better than most of the music-dramas I've seen. And the characters are love.

Is it good? I heard Joy's acting is pretty awkward. And I have watched the Japanese movie ver. and I really love it. I'm afraid this Korea ver. will ruin the original ^^;

I'm loving it thus far. I must warn you though, don't go in with any preconceived notions. Think that the manga, the movie and the drama are separate. People who have been constantly comparing are not liking it much as apparently the movie is much darker, but those who have watched both but see it as individual works, are loving it. I have been hearing so much about the movie, but I am holding back from watching it, till TLAHL finishes. Just dive in and give the first 2 episodes a try and judge whether it is your cuppa or not.

Also about Joy's acting, she is a just little green, but she is just perfect for the role. She is doing a great job. I don't understand the hate! Never will (re : Kim Go Eun).

I don't understand the hate too. It's scary how they critic her acting. Anyway, thank you, I'll give it a try ^^

Honestly, I think Joy is doing a good job. Her character is supposed to be a young, awkward, naive high school girl thrown into the corporate Kpop world full of behind-the-scenes deal making and pre-determined winners. So I think the role fits - or she fits the role, cuz to me that's exactly how she comes across. She should act green, awkward, and like a newbie - I think it's more believable. If she would've gone in there acting/seeming all polished, it wouldn't have fit. I have to admit that sometimes I get a little frustrated w/ how certain characters behave, then I have to remind myself that this is a high school/young adult music drama, then it all makes sense again. ? But I do really like the show... kinda reminds me of Monstar, which I really liked (not cuz I'm a huge Highlight/B2st ajumma fan or anything like that...) ?

Chief Kim is highly recommended. Though I find it boring for episodes 1 to 3. It started to pick after that. Most of the time, dramas tend to be a little dragged n boring at the beginning as they need to 'introduce' the characters and their background etc. Keep watching Chief Kim pls !!

I watched episode 11/12 this week end, and i still can't process already 12 episodes have passed. I still feel so green in the family, like an awkward visitor, but at the same time I know them already as many things happened. I'm totally engrossed by their everyday life. This is the kind of show i could follow to no end. You're not going to regret the fifty count... !

I am surprise to read that the main couple of Our Gabsoon have no chemistry. More than chemistry, their characters were poorly written for 61 episodes of the drama! The side characters like So Joo and his boring gf took most of screentime. Since I started for Kim So Eun, I am only ff scenes to see her scenes only. The writer of this drama will be in my banned list forever. The PD is like doing fanservice, he will release BTS /PD note of Solim couple almost every week to ease the shippers' heart. Unfortunately I am still mad, I am not watching a reality show for fanservice, I am watching a drama. Anyway, she and Park Eun Bin are so criminally underused in their current respective weekend drama. Glad Our Gabsoon finally over this week. My last time ranting for this drama.

Father is Strange : I cannot wait for more conflicts. Ahn Jo Hee annoyed me the past weeks, I dont care about his loneliness or his misunderstanding but he is very rude. I am waiting something big happen to him, so he will know his wrong. I wish the eldest will pass his exam, esp now with his pregnant gf.

Currently watching :

(1) Radiant Office - love it so far especially the lead guy, I even considered to watch his Drinking Solo becos of him but he was such an arrogant jerk in there that I dropped this show v soon (plus I don't find the show funny although it was supposed to be a comedy??)

(2) Mystery Queen - started on the first 2 episodes but find it boring and nearly made me fall asleep. But I will continue with it for the time being....Maybe I preferred serious murder cases rather than more petty burglaring/drug deals etc :P

(3) SWDBS - waiting for the big moment when lead gal will ultimately face-off with the serial kidnapper....and I hope they don't keep reusing the same old comic effect via the gangsters and the poop jokes. ?

(4) Tunnel - good....I'm rooting for all the leads n hope that Kwang Ho would come to know who Sun Jae actually was ! I suspect that Sun Jae thinks that that high school guy whom Kwang Ho initially suspected him to have killed the ladies in 1986, was the same guy who had killed his mum in 1986, so he is now after him especially since he had slipped off from him after his ex-partner's fault, so now Sun Jae is always very agitated whenever new similar murder of ladies surfaced !

Mystery Queen was not bad for first week, I wish Lee Won Geun's character is more interesting next week. Choi Kang Hee is doing good so far. I wonder who will be her husband.

Seeing Hoya underutilized in Radiant Office makes me want to watch Reply 1997 all over again for his character arc. TBH I don't think he is underutilized, I feel we got enough of his stories as well so far, isn't it? From how depressed he was because of his mother, and his stress because of his mom. Maybe a little bit lacking because he is in sales dept, not in marketing so we dont get to see he doing the works that much. But I have a feeling we will get to see more of he doing the work in the upcoming episode especially with Jae Min is out from the pic (this guy won't ever coming back, right?) . For a major supporting role, I satisfied that he still has his own stories and not just playing side character who is just hero's bestfriend for eg in this drama. He is also at the same time playing supporting role in Super Family and appearing in every episode so far.

Currently Watching:

Whisper: The villain couple have me rooting for them and hoping they stay together until the end of the show. But the drama gods will not allow that since good must always win in the end. Until then I'll enjoy them being cute and villainous

Mystery Queen: What a great show!! I've nexer loved the first episode of any show as much as this. Every character is so likable even the mother in law. They never showed her husband once? Is there a reason? And will they try to start a romance with her and the male lead?

Strong Woman Do Bong Soon: I've been behind on this show for 2 weeks now. After seeing some of the negative comments after ep 13 i think I'm better off dropping the show al together

Tunnel: Who is N's character????? And how does he relate to all of this??????

Father is Strange: I absolutely love this show. I started watching because of Hye Yeong and Jung Hwan. They were so funny and silly in the beginning. But i feel like their relationship isn't completely realistic. They broke up 8 years ago and all of a sudden they're living together. On top of that WHAT ABOUT THE REASON SHE DUMPED HIM!! They haven't even addressed it. On a different note, I wasn't expecting to like the Joo Young's story line as much as I do. His girlfriend and him are cute together and I'm glad he's getting he shit together. But he seriously needs to man up. I should be angry at the way Jung Hee is treating the father but the father should've just told him the truth and treated him like a son instead of lying.

My drama slump was so bad, I had to quit ALL asian dramas for a little while (this has only happened one other time in my 11 years of drama watching).

I'm adding all these drama's to the list - in the meantime, I picked up a non-asian show called "This Is Us" - and I'm in love. I don't know what I was looking for, but this was pretty much it. It's like a Jdrama with it's slice of life quality, which I haven't been able to find in a Jdrama lately. Anyway, HIGHLY recommend it!

Liar and His Lover: I don't know what I should think about Chan-young. I know he's in pain for being in Han-gyul's shadow for years, but that doesn't justify what you're doing by telling So-rim something so private. Shi-hyun continue to be my favorite character and I hope he gets a happy ending!

Mystery Queen: I'm excited for this drama because of Kwon Sang-woo, but I still haven't warmed up to the characters yet. The police looks like they're incredibly incompetent, but who knows? Things might change

Tunnel: I felt Kwang-ho's desperation for not being able to go back to his own time and my heart is breaking along with him. I hope that he will see a chance, even just the tiniest bit, for him to go back home to Yoon-seok

Whisper: Common theme in this drama; Adultery. Still watching it because I want to see Kwon-yul, and I hope he get another role soon that's not evil

Chicago Typewritter: Love love love the first episode! It's so quirky and so so good!

Father is Strange: Stop being stubborn, Lee Joon! Accept the father! Move in with them! And last week, Hye-young's character actually disappoint me a big time because she lied to her family about moving in with her friend, while she's actually living with her man

Father I'll Take Care of You: The revenge seems a little bit repetitive now, and I don't understand why Sung-joon want to take the fall rather than running away from Han family. Got it that they raised him, but they barely love him anyway, judging from how they don't really care about his well-being and how he's so ousted by the family in the beginning. Or maybe that's just me

Still Loving You: Actually started watching this because of Dong-jun, but the story is quite nice, and I love that it's not all about angry yelling and angry slapping all the time. Plot is moving along nicely, and seems like the secret is going to be out soon

SWDBS the only drama i watched these days. And it doesn't disappoint me. Well yes a lot of unnecessary thugs scenes and slapstick jokes that we find unnecessary. But I am here for the main couple, to be more spesific AMH. Oh my.... Hear ye hear ye all chaebols in dramaland. This is how u should act as a chaebol. No pushed wraist grip, no " I'm much much better than you", no chaebol mother in law who throw water in your face, and no noble idiocy. Just pure fun, loving, sensible, mature chaebol heir. I need one in my life please.

Oh! So happy to see JB watching TLAHL -- its my latest crack. Yep, I know its supposedly for a teen/youth demographic but the story and the characters are really well-written and the music (especially Sorim's songs) are very healing to me. It's a happy Monday pill perfect to get me excited about the new week.

I'm presently watching Strong Woman Do Bong Soon as well and I just started Chicago Typewriter, which I loved! I tried episode 1 of Whisper but it felt heavy to me...I was screaming internally at the some of characters...maybe I'll give it another try when I'm in one of those "I hate this world and people are cruel" mood. I loved I Hear Your Voice because it reflected the legal system I worked in but it had positive/optimistic cases and Whisper's present plot looks frustrating as of the moment. Plus, call it what you will but taking advantage of a drunk/intoxicated person is RAPE. Sure, it happened to a man but the fact was, he didn't even remember anything or know anything until he woke up. If it happened to a female character in a drama, we'd be screaming bloody murder by now.

I'm also watching Splish Splash Love right now while waiting for SWDBS subs and the next episodes of TLAHL. I love Kim Seulgi and Dojoon (he's such a good idol actor)!

-Strong Woman Do Bong-soon: Still watching it for Min-min and Bong-bong. But aaackk! She lost her power. I think she will rediscover herself here and finally setiously thinking about what that super strength meant for her.

-Tunnel: I'm in love with this show. Interesting characters, endearing and unusual relationships, exciting cases, and riveting overarch mystery. Is the next eps available yet??

-Chicago Typewriter: What an intriguing first eps. I didn't expect the otherwordly feels, but definitely like it. And I understand now why everyone is raving about Yoo Ah-in. He is amazing.

-Three Colors Fantasy: Queen of the Ring: Contrary to most beanies' reaction, I like the way they executed this premise about what beauty means. After all, it's true that every society has its own standard of beauty. And it's also true that when you love someone, they'll look beautiful in your eyes, be it family, friends, or lover.

Yes, i would watch an hour of mindless Min Min and Bong Bong fluff but the psycho killer plotline just keeps getting in the way. :(

SWDBS: flaws and all, PBY & PHS made me stay...last 2 episodes

FATHER I'LL TAKE CARE OF YOU: i was initially annoyed with KJW's revenge plot, but after 42 episodes of the annoying Han siblings, I'm rooting for him. Gosh I pity the Grandma & Dad.

LIAR & LOVER: just started it this weekend, with low expectations. so far, i like it. might not be for everybody's liking, though.

CHIEF KIM: finally, i can now start this one. so much agony waiting for it to finish since i prefer to marathon this one.

Damn, the only drama that's giving me my fill is tunnel. I dropped SWDBS, the couple isn't enough to hide the blaring inconsistencies of plot (they are very cute but not cute enough). I will start on Chicago typewriter, it sounds fun! I just finished episode 5 of Tunnel and can we take a moment to appreciate how beautiful the soundtrack and directing is? I love the soundtrack they played at the end of episode 5. Also this is my first time seeing Choi Jin Hyuk and my, my, my, what a hoot! Also, I'm rather surprised that people get signal vibes from this show, I actually get tomorrow with you vibes.

I am always in catching up mode. Watching ep11 of Bong Soon. Just finished ep1 and 2 of Mystery Queen. This week watched Perfect Wife. Eun Hee character is so creepy. JungHee is the ultimate worst loser husband ever. I just loving Radiant Office. Next up, to somehow get ep1 and 2 of Whisper. So many different themed dramas.

what I'm watching:

Tunnel for Choi Jin Hyuk - oppa is too handsome and good here. Must watch for those who enjoyed Signal.

SWDBS - i have enough of the villain, story is already kind of dragging.
Just watching for Min Hyuk.

Mystery Queen - I love the cute and persistent detective wannabe ahjumma!

Chicago Typewriter - so far, so good. YAI is just good in everything.

Liar and his lover - I almost dropped this because the female lead kind of annoys me with her antics to get closer to K. skipped ep 3-4 but happy that the story is getting interesting now.

I juat finished Chief Kim (Amazing and I want more!!) and Defendant (Heart stopping and nail biting ajsjdhs) not long ago and I'm contemplating what shows to add on my watchlist but here's my current watchlist:

Strong Woman Do Bong Soon ep 14: I still love it for the couple, the story not so much. I wish they'd wrap up the case this week but I guess not.

The Liar and His Lover ep 6: This is my crack drama right now. It's an addicting little show that hits the right buttons for light/fluff/slice of life that I was looking for and plus points for the music. I am impatiently waiting for the next episode. How dare they end the episode like that?! I was wailing after the episode ended.

Chicago Typewriter ep 1: Ooooh interesting pilot episode. I can't say much but I am definiely intrigued. Count me in for the next episode.

Come Back, Ahjussi ep 4: Started this gem of a show late. I don't know why I reserved watching this until now. I am enjoying Oh Yeonseo so much in this. I can't wait for her scenes with Honey Lee.

13 Reasons Why S01E01: I've read the book and loved it. Nice pilot episode. Probably gonna continue this coming Holy Week.

I'm currently watching

Strong Woman DBS - I love main couple and all the humor we get from other side characters. Especially Kim Won Hae, he nailed it and that Indian monk is super funny. Now, latest episode were a little bit here and there, for me. But, that ending was nice... oh niceee. Now, let's get that evil guy and go for HEA. I do hope they end it with a really nice note... something different. I'll miss Min Min/Bong Bong couple. LOL

Tunnel - Most of my brain is on this show. HAHA Good show... but I can't help and get my brain cells over heated while thinking about all the things going on in that show. Maybe I should just calm down, rest and let them do it all for me. Possible bromance I see there... is making me so excited. I like those two on the same screen. Bring it on! Also, possible romance... I like that too. xD

Chicago Typewriter - SEE YOU NEXT WEEK (when SWDBS ends *sad face*)

Although I am watching The liar and his Lover and I like it I must admit that it took me for ages to finish episode 3. I kept in falling asleep? I have no idea why.... This is the first time that happened to a drama I like. By the way, don't you think that their age gap isn't visible at all?

I'm in such a drama slump that I started watching shows I didn't get to watch during its run.

SWDBS - Ready to drop this one, but I love the OTP... and it made me a new fan of Hyung Sik, so not all was wasted. I don't care about the storyline/plot at all... and the last two episodes, I skipped all scenes except the BongBong and MinMin scenes.

Romantic Doctor, Teacher Kim - I hate the title and not a huge fan of medical dramas, so it deterred me from watching it during its run, but with all the hype and my kdrama slump, I decided to check it out and I'm so glad I did. The acting, chemistry, plot, writing, directing... all on point! Han Suk Kyu is such a handsome ahjusshi and my new older actor crush along with Yoo Ji Tae!

High School King of Savvy - Lots of hype around this drama, and I'm missing SIG, so picked this up, but I just can't get into the OTP! It's just really hard for me to suspend belief and believe that LSH and SIG would fight over her. I don't like Lee Ha-na's portrayal of her character.

I plan to check out Chicago Typewriter after more episodes air, but the dramas I'm looking forward to most are all premiering in May! So far 2017 has been underwhelming.

Perfect Wife: Eun Hee, with her bloody footprints, coming after Na Mi is probably one of the creepiest, most breathtaking scenes I've seen in a kdrama. Jo Yeon Jung is amazing! And how is Jae Bok so cool throughout all this? I would be flipping out by now.

Radiant Office: 80% of the time I find this to be a stressful watch since the characters are all so stressed out. But 20% of the time, I find it cathartic, especially when they let it all out and air out the horrible office politics that people would rather slide under the rug. I love our three temps. So glad they're in the same neighborhood now!

Whisper: This is a strange drama for me. I don't feel an emotional connection to it and find it heavy-handed at times, but I find the interactions and maneuvering incredibly fascinating. And Young-joo pushing that table against Sang-gu, jumping onto the table, and forcing the drugs down his throat was one of the most bad-ass things I've ever seen.

Mystery Queen: Really liking it so far. It's so quirky and endearing. I enjoy how we got Seol Ok's point of view in the first episode and then Wan Sung's pov and then seeing each being the background character in each other's POVs. I like how there are pretty much 2 mystery storylines - one of Seol Ok solving the mysteries she comes across and another of Seol Ok's mother-in-law trying to figure out her daughter-in-law.

Had a busy week, so I left Father is Strange on the backburner, though i fully intend to catch up during the week.

I guess Strong Woman Do Bong-soon dominates the watchlist for drama fans these days. I actually felt a great slump in my watchlist when 2017 came but things are picking up now.

I realized that no matter how few my drama count as of the moment, I still watch variety shows. I love it that Superman is Back was mentioned by dramallama! I've been watching it since the Song triplets and now I'm feeling like I've raised a lot of babies now! They grow really fast!

SWDBS is on the fence for me. At times it's fresh and adorable and hits all the right notes for a romcom drama with an interesting murder mystery undercurrent. I could SO do without the annoying drag-along characters like the gang and monk. They serve no purpose to the story and frankly it's been annoying having to fast-forward through half the episode because of them. On the other hand, The Liar and His Lover is a diamond in the rough. With a rookie-sprinkled cast amongst veteran actors, I didn't know what to expect. But Joy is proving to be the perfect casting for So-Rim, leading the engaging storyline along with Hyunwoo and all the other well-written characters that are showing surprising depth. I'm really loving what the drama's been bringing to the table so far.

After finishing WFKBJ and Defendant, I put Kdrama on hold. I watched Tomorrow With You until ep 9 but still can't continue it :(.
I am binge-watching type, so I wait until these series are finished: Whisper, SWDBS, Tunnel.
Still considering TLaHL and Radiant Office to be my next watch-list (I don't know whether it is worth to watch).
So I decided to watch Jdrama while waiting for them :p. I've finished watching We Married As a Job, Cold Case, Nobunaga Concerto. and it's pretty good actually. Especially for WMAaJ and CC, you must watch it!

No kidding...

But at least there are competent woman leads who run the show.

@TeriYaki.... i'm like you, i just needed to have Our Gab Soon end. it did, and it ended well -- and in my opinion, it could've been a 20 episode drama, instead of the 61 torturous-at-times miserable episodes. gab dol's sister disappeared unceremoniously, and her children instantaneously gravitated toward their ex-step mother, now step mother again... aigooooo.... it's over. i just watched for Gap Soon and Gap Dol, honestly. i loved them in WGM, and stuck with the drama till the end for the two of them...

Currently watching and loving it : Tunnel ( Really liking Choi Jin-Hyuk and Yoon Hyun-Min) , Chicago Typewriter ( Love Yoo Ah-In as always ) , & Queen of Mystery.

Dramas on hold: Whisper, Rebel: Thief who Stole the People, The Liar and his Lover ( I loved the Japanese version very much, so my bias is making watching this version hard) .

Considering : Ms. Perfect , and re-watching Cheese in Trap .
