Strong Woman Do Bong-soon: Episode 5
by murasakimi
Now we’re getting somewhere. After allowing herself to be relegated to the sidelines while a dangerous criminal terrorized the streets of Do-bong, Bong-soon takes the first steps in using her powers for good when an attack hits a little too close to home. Min-hyuk and Gook-doo argue over Bong-soon’s safety, but at the end of the day, it seems like only Bong-soon and her super strength can keep everyone safe.
EPISODE 5: “Seems as If They’re a Friend, and yet Not”
Bong-soon rides the subway as she reflects on her chance encounter with the kidnapper. We flash back to that moment as she belatedly makes the connection, then as she frantically tried to chase after him. Unfortunately, the trail went cold, so instead, she tapped into her other senses and attempts to piece together more details, like how he smelled of rusted metal and gasoline.
The subway groper (from Episode 1) is at it again, but today, he isn’t so lucky. Bong-soon spots him feeling up a young woman from behind, and for a second her gaze connects with the groper. He’s so certain that Bong-soon can’t do anything to stop him that he continues right on with his harassment and even taunts her to do something.
Internally, Bong-soon wonders, “Would the world become a better place if I used my power properly?” Then she glares up at the groper, ready to make things right.
The scene skips ahead to Bong-soon playing it cool as she exits the subway car. The camera pans back inside to a crowd surrounding the groper, who flails like a fish on the ground as he clutches his unnaturally bent finger and screams in agony. Yeah, girl!
At AinSoft, Bong-soon stares up at a poster of an armor-clad female warrior holding a trident. The top of the poster reads: “Chronicle of Albertan,” AinSoft’s new game. She wonders to herself what it would be like if such women existed in the real world, and then suddenly the trident materializes off the poster and drifts into her hands, as if bequeathing her with its higher purpose.
Min-hyuk appears at the moment to burst her daydream, snapping her back to reality. He acts normal as he greets her and stares thoughtfully at the energy drink she offers him before announcing that they should “get rid of her hangover.”
They relocate to a restaurant to dine on some spicy soup. In between bites, Min-hyuk inquires after the pager fastened around her wrist. She cradles the gift as if it were fine jewelry but then fumbles to find the English words to describe what it’s called. (As always, he has to correct her, and this time the word she was looking for was “wearable” rather than “wearobo,” ha.)
After Bong-soon chirps that it was a gift from Gook-doo, a weird look crosses Min-hyuk’s face, but he doesn’t say anything. She explains what it’s for, and Min-hyuk comments cryptically that he hopes she won’t need to use it.
She then recounts her brief encounter with the kidnapper, which fills Min-hyuk with worry as he tosses out the idea of hiring some extra muscle to protect them, but Bong-soon reassures him that she’ll protect him.
She promises him in such a sweet way that he brightens up immediately and is barely able to hide the smile growing on his face. The moment doesn’t last long though, as he challenges her declaration with a reminder of what she said to him last night during her drunken tirade.
Bong-soon sputters to defend herself, but Min-hyuk pointedly warns her not to drink anymore, then changes the topic to Secretary Gong’s imminent return to work.
For a moment, Bong-soon worries about being misplaced, but Min-hyuk points out that she’s still his bodyguard. He acts in his usual persnickety way, but when she isn’t looking, he gazes at her tenderly.
They return to Min-hyuk’s office, where he shows Bong-soon her newly built study area and points out the English textbooks he’s prepared for her. She pouts at the diss, but then perks up when he tells her that he’ll be in lockdown mode working on Chronicles of Albertan until it goes live.
She tries to aegyo her way onto his development team, but he shoots her down, since they’ve yet to capture his blackmailer.
Bong-soon sulks as she settles into her adorable little deskhouse, while Min-hyuk puts on his competent CEO hat. She copies down a few vocabulary words like “meat,” and “beef” (haha, they’re all food words), but she’s more focused on listening to Min-hyuk fire out orders to his team and sneaking glances at his computer.
At the walnut shop, Mom and her girls discuss the missing ballet school owner. One makes the connection that all the women who’ve recently gone missing are thin-framed, then begs Mom to watch over Bong-soon, since she could be next.
One of the walnut shop workers shows Dad the now viral video of a drunken Bong-soon waving around the metal pole at the club, and Mom speeds over to see it for herself.
Mom calls Bong-soon to rant about how she will need to leave Do-bong and probably Korea because she can’t bear the shame Bong-soon has brought to their family. Bong-soon is blindsided by Mom’s rage and soon finds the video.
We flash back to the previous night, where we see Bong-soon slouched on the ground, still clutching her pole, as onlookers filmed her with their phones. Bong-ki’s pleas for them to stop went unheeded, and so Bong-soon drunkenly wailed, “It’s not my fault that I’m strong!”
In the present, Min-hyuk looks around for Bong-soon and finds her hiding under her little desk, wincing from embarrassment. He spots the video and then proceeds to rub salt on her wounds by asking for her autograph, since she’s a celebrity now.
Meanwhile, all of Bong-soon’s victims also watch the video and confirm their reverence/hatred for her, with the schoolboys crying out for their noonim while the gangsters crow about getting even.
Back at AinSoft, Secretary Gong hobbles into Min-hyuk’s office as Bong-soon continues to hide under her desk. Thinking that they’re alone, Secretary Gong waits about thirty seconds before trash-talking Bong-soon and her freakish strength.
He describes all the rumors he knows about Bong-soon, which purport that she’s a North Korean spy or an alien before warning Min-hyuk to keep away from her.
Min-hyuk tries to inform Secretary Gong that Bong-soon is in the room with them before the secretary shoves his foot deeper into his mouth, but he’s so wrapped up in his gossip that he doesn’t notice.
Finally, Bong-soon steps out to make her presence known, prompting some angelic music to play in the background as if foretelling Secretary Gong’s impending doom.
Showcasing his unrivaled kindness, Min-hyuk suggests the two catch-up to coordinate their tasks as Secretary Gong looks at him with pleading eyes. Min-hyuk whispers an apology before abandoning him to Bong-soon.
When the secretaries are gone, Min-hyuk calls up a reporter he knows and firmly suggests they remove a certain video from circulation.
He isn’t done making calls, and gets Gook-doo on the line to notify the detective of Bong-soon’s morning run-in. Gook-doo becomes frantic to hear about the incident, which means that Min-hyuk can’t resist making a little jab at the uselessness of Gook-doo’s “wearable” in the same breath.
Min-hyuk is combative throughout the call, then leaves Gook-doo with the implication that he isn’t doing nearly enough to ensure Bong-soon’s safety.
Afterward, Gook-doo turns his frustrations onto Bong-soon for not reporting to him, then runs out to be by her side. Meanwhile, the other detectives encounter a series of roadblocks in their investigation of the missing ballet school owner and seem to be getting nowhere fast.
Bong-soon and Secretary Gong meet to discuss recent events, but first, they commence layers of apologies and non-apologies as Secretary Gong apologizes for trash-talking about her, then Bong-soon fake-apologizes for hurting him in the first place, then for overhearing his bad-mouthing, which makes him even more apologetic. As she speaks, Bong-soon waves her arms around excessively, prompting Secretary Gong to flinch each time.
She debriefs Secretary Gong on that latest, but her report is about two sentences long since, as she points out repeatedly, Min-hyuk does squat. Hilariously, Secretary Gong keeps apologizing each time she mentions it, as if he’s to blame for Min-hyuk’s ways.
Then she oh-so-casually mentions the kind-of-sort-of-important family dinner they went to where Chairman Ahn named Min-hyuk heir and ruler of all. Secretary Gong presses for more details, but Bong-soon draws a blank.
A little while later, Min-hyuk glances over and notices Bong-soon dozing off at her desk. He smirks and walks over to sit beside her, watching her head bob up and down with a soft look in his eyes.
He thinks back to the night before, as the crowd videotaped a drunk and vulnerable Bong-soon like the latest freak show. Min-hyuk crouched down to try and pry the pole from Bong-soon’s grip and convince her to leave with him, but she continued to cry out about how she didn’t ask to be strong.
It’s those words that ring through him as he studies her in the present. He reaches over to touch her head, when suddenly, Gook-doo barges in.
Gook-doo calls out to Bong-soon and wakes her despite Min-hyuk’s attempts to shush him. He gets right to chastising her for neglecting to tell him about encountering the kidnapper. He takes particular issue with the fact that he only heard of the incident secondhand from Min-hyuk, which earns Min-hyuk a prompt and piercing glare from Bong-soon.
Min-hyuk avoids her eyes before asking Gook-doo if he’s made any new arrangements to ensure Bong-soon’s safety, and Gook-doo replies that henceforth, he shall escort the fair maiden home.
However, when he asks what time Bong-soon will finish for the day, Min-hyuk dismisses him and asserts that he will deliver Bong-soon to safety. Things soon get heated as the boys argue back and forth, until Bong-soon has to step between them and gleefully voice her dismay over their hostility and her dangerous popularity.
The boys look over to Bong-soon as if noticing her for the first time, then they immediately begin backpedaling, offering each other for the task, hee. In fact, neither seem to even remember where Bong-soon lives anymore. (HA.) The fight bubbles over as the boys become increasingly insistent that the other take responsibility, leaving poor Bong-soon frowning. Gook-doo came all the over just to do this?
In the end, Min-hyuk is tasked with driving Bong-soon home, and he criticizes Gook-doo the entire ride. Min-hyuk graciously concedes that as her boss he should protect her–… but then seems to realize that she’s the bodyguard.
He starts to complain about the role reversal, until she snaps that he was the one who forced her to tag along since he said he wanted walnut pies.
After several dead ends, the detectives finally catch a break and spot the ballet school owner’s missing car on some CCTV footage. Gook-doo and his colleague head out to search the area where the car was last seen, which leads them to an auto salvage nearby.
They question one of the workers on the missing car, but he says he hasn’t seen it. The detectives and the junkyard worker size each other up when they think the other isn’t looking, but the detectives are forced to leave empty-handed.
Mom returns to the walnut shop after protesting with her friends and is positively tickled by the presence of Min-hyuk. When he tries to pay for his treats, she refuses his money, explaining that they are practically “family.”
He’s dumbfounded by the description, so Mom explains that Bong-soon is part of his corporate family, and so Min-hyuk is like her family too. Mom adds that he shouldn’t each too much pie at once or he’ll get… diarrhea. Mom’s verbal diarrhea is a little too much for Bong-soon to bear, so she quickly ushers out a speechless Min-hyuk.
At the hospital, Hee-ji visits for a follow-up and asks about Bong-ki’s whereabouts. He’s tied up at that moment treating the gangster Kwang-bok for his numerous injuries. After watching the video, the gangsters begin plotting their revenge against Bong-soon as her twin listens.
Kwang-bok vows to destroy Bong-soon, leading Bong-ki to wrap his entire head in bandages, causing some deep confusion and muffled protests, lol. Bong-ki defends his dressing technique (“Hepatitis preventative!”) and makes a quick getaway before the gangster can catch on.
Hee-ji waits for Bong-ki in the hall and tries to make plans with him as soon as he’s free, adamant on meeting him whenever. Bleh.
She comments on how fast her hand is healing, then ruefully adds that the rate is too fast. Bong-ki replies that her injury will take a long time to heal, and even if it seems better, she’ll need to continue coming in for treatment. Back away from this situation, Bong-ki.
Hee-ji gets a text from her boyfriend at that moment, wishing her well on her appointment, and she excuses herself.
At the Do house, Bong-soon searches for her drunken video but can’t find it. Kyung-shim theorizes that Min-hyuk must’ve asked the original uploader to take down the video, and Bong-soon barks that there’s no way Min-hyuk would help her out.
She starts grumbling about how much of a weirdo Min-hyuk is, which makes Kyung-shim repeat that she doesn’t think he’s gay at all. Bong-soon fires back her evidence, which includes Min-hyuk descriptive adoration of Gook-doo’s rear end.
Instead of convincing Kyung-shim, her friend goes into her own speech about Gook-doo’s magnificent tush, which only stresses Bong-soon out to be reminded of all the men and women she’s competing against for Gook-doo’s attention. I love that she’s more worried about Min-hyuk than Hee-ji.
After thinking about Gook-doo’s tasty bum, Kyung-shim makes herself hungry and heads out into the night to pick up some tofu to complete their dinner.
Growing worried when Kyung-shim doesn’t return, Bong-soon calls her phone, but the calls go unanswered as Kyung-shim tries to outrun the Masked Man lurking behind her. Kyung-shim pulls out her phone as Bong-soon’s name illuminates her screen and presses the button, but the Masked Man appears out of thin air and steps right into her path. Oh nooo!
He knocks her down with a metal pipe, then beats her as she lays crumpled on the asphalt. He raises the bar to deliver a devastating blow, but is stopped by a mighty arm. Hell yes!
Bong-soon holds the man in place as he struggles to understand his situation, then she bends the metal back until it crushes his hand before kicking him away. She hurries over to Kyung-shim’s side and cradles her friend in her arms.
Later that night, Bong-ki comes out of the ICU to tell a distraught Bong-soon that Kyung-shim is out of immediate danger and will recover from her injuries.
That night, Bong-soon keeps vigil over Kyung-shim as she recovers, and apologizes profusely when her friend wakes. To puncture the somber mood, Kyung-shim asks what happened to their food as she tries to comfort a tearful Bong-soon.
Deciding that enough is enough, Mom assembles the ajummas in her neighborhood protesting group to start escorting the younger women home late at night. What seems like a straightforward task gets complicated quickly as the ajummas try to define whom to protect.
They attempt to designate an age range, but one woman points out that with the advancements of anti-aging technology, appearances can be deceiving. Another suggests that since the kidnapper has only targeted thinner women thus far, they should focus on protecting those under a certain weight limit, which goes over probably as well as you’d expect.
Boss Tak and his boys enter the walnut shop in the middle of their meeting. He introduces himself as the CEO of the construction company helming the redevelopment effort, and the one directly opposing their protests.
He offers all the men in his company as protectors of the neighborhood and emphatically argues that the redevelopment of the neighborhood will create safer and more well-lit areas that will benefit all. However, since construction will take time, his men will protect the neighborhood in the meantime.
After Boss Tak and his men leave, the ajummas remain confused on who to trust, since the so-called construction workers look like criminals themselves. Mom steps up and recommends they “ignore” those guys and continue with their original plan, haha.
The next morning in the hospital, the mood is light between the friends as they joke about a dark topic (Kyung-shim’s wounds), until Kyung-shim muses on how scared the kidnapped women must have felt when they were attacked and had no one to save them like she did.
Mom arrives to check on Kyung-shim and to scold Bong-soon for sending Kyung-shim out and missing the opportunity to apprehend the criminal once and for all. Bong-soon doesn’t argue back and takes Mom’s verbal beating.
Meanwhile at AinSoft, a restless Min-hyuk calls Secretary Gong into his office and instructs him to sit at Bong-soon’s empty desk and “stay by my side.” The mood is confusingly romantic as Min-hyuk confesses to Secretary Gong, “It’s only when people are gone that you notice their presence in your life.”
He clearly means Bong-soon, but in the background, a love ballad blares over the scene and Min-hyuk’s gaze is meaningful as he looks at his secretary. To top it off, he hands him a box of chocolates as a White Day gift, which he’d presumably intended to give to Bong-soon. This music is killing me, oh gawd.
Gook-doo joins the twins in Kyung-shim’s room and asks her to recount the previous night’s events for him. She tells her listeners that before she saw the Masked Man, she felt something in the air. Then when she ran from him, he strangely and suddenly appeared right in front of her. (Omo, a super villain?)
The memory is enough to send chills down her spine, and she adds that if not for Bong-soon, she would’ve been toast. Gook-doo is confused by her statement and asks what she means. Kyung-shim nearly outs Bong-soon’s secret until Bong-soon squeezes her hands to stop her, answering instead that Bong-soon scared the man off with her shouting, causing the twins to laugh nervously.
It’s explanation enough for Gook-doo, who then asks if Kyung-shim got a good look at the man’s face. Kyung-shim’s expression is troubled as she replies, “That man didn’t have a face.”
Outside in the hall, Gook-doo interrogates Bong-soon on why she didn’t use the emergency pager last night. He explodes when she lies that she forgot about it, but after taking a breath, he asks if she’s hurt anywhere. Without waiting for her to answer, he tells her to get out of the neighborhood for the time being.
And though he struggles to say it, eventually he tells her to hide out at Min-hyuk’s place. Bong-soon nearly tells Gook-doo about her super strength so that he doesn’t worry about her so much, but she loses her nerve.
Gook-doo goes to AinSoft to ask the same of Min-hyuk, and Min-hyuk comments on how Gook-doo really doesn’t know Bong-soon at all. But Gook-doo warns the CEO that while he is housing Bong-soon, he isn’t to lay a finger on her.
Min-hyuk, as observant as ever, asks pointedly if Gook-doo is worried about Bong-soon only as a friend. Gook-doo evades answering, and Min-hyuk leaves it at that, perhaps not wanting to hear him confirm it.
Before he leaves, Gook-doo has one more item of business to settle and demands to know why Min-hyuk speaks informally to him when they are the same age. Min-hyuk comments on Gook-doo abusing his authority by looking up his information, then asks that Gook-doo keep his age a secret from Bong-soon.
Gook-doo threatens to start speaking informally as well, but of course, his personality won’t allow it, so he leaves after repeating his request to keep Bong-soon safe in jondaemal.
Once Gook-doo is gone, Min-hyuk says to himself, “Do Bong-soon, I don’t think your love is one-sided.”
Gook-doo calls Bong-soon at night to tell her that he will escort her to work, and so Bong-soon takes extra care as she gets ready the next morning.
Upon seeing her, Gook-doo complains about the length of her skirt and her makeup, explaining that she shouldn’t make herself too pretty. The comment and its implication instantly sets her heart aflutter.
The pair arrives in front of AinSoft just as Min-hyuk walks up. They are lost in their own little bubble, and so Min-hyuk is forced to watch their exchange from afar. Their back and forth is cracking me up, because on one end, Bong-soon is telling Gook-doo to go as if they are lovers refusing to be the first to hang up the phone. But one the other hand, Gook-doo is more blunt, and then he finally does leave first.
Min-hyuk observes Bong-soon’s euphoria with disdain but keeps his distance as he mutters bitterly under his breath. He mocks the little skip she does as she enters the building from behind and calls out to her in an attempt to burst her happy bubble.
It doesn’t work, but after she thanks him for giving her the day off to take care of Kyung-shim, he’s practically mollified.
By the time they reach their office, she’s still swooning over Gook-doo’s indirect compliment. She flits around the room recalling his words, then retreats to the bathroom to continue squealing.
As she washes her hands, her favorite fantasy Gook-doo appears to repeat the phrase in several different ways until finally he says plainly, “You’re pretty.”
When she returns to their office, Min-hyuk tells Bong-soon to stay at his house because Gook-doo said so. He’s matter-of-fact about it and tries to return to his conversation with Secretary Gong, but Bong-soon continues to gush about how much Gook-doo worries about her, and cares about her, and thinks about her, and she’s too blind to take the hint.
At home, Mom packs some racy underwear for Bong-soon to take with her to Min-hyuk’s house (HAHAHA!), and sings Gook-doo’s praises for facilitating this golden opportunity. Dad criticizes Mom for being so shameless, but Mom isn’t chastised one bit as she proclaims proudly that she will see to it that Bong-soon lives in luxury, unlike herself.
However, when Secretary Gong comes to pick up Bong-soon’s things, Mom launches into a speech about how difficult it is for them as a conservative family to send Bong-soon alone to a man’s house (this woman is playing the long game, lol), but given the circumstances, they’ve decided to accept Min-hyuk’s offer.
As they load Bong-soon’s belongs into the car, Secretary Gong asks about a large blanket Mom packed. Mom replies seriously that Min-hyuk and Bong-soon must sleep together under the blanket, earning a confused look. She then bursts into laughter and promises that she was only kidding.
At Min-hyuk’s house, Min-hyuk and Bong-soon gape at all the bizarre items Mom prepared for her daughter, which very awkwardly includes a pair of wooden wedding ducks. Min-hyuk stares at it in astonishment while Bong-soon moves to put her things away, but in the process, she accidentally pulls out some of the lace undies Mom planted.
Both are alarmed at the sight but try to play it off as if the implication isn’t printed in bright neon letters. Min-hyuk observes with forced nonchalance that her mom has interesting taste and even says the underwear is pretty… making the mood even more awkward.
They retreat to their rooms for bedtime, and for some (Bong-soon-sized) reason, Min-hyuk can’t seem to fall asleep. He looks out into the hall and wonders if Bong-soon is already sleeping.
Meanwhile, Bong-soon chats with Kyung-shim to check on her condition. As the girls talk, Mom can barely hold herself back from snatching the phone away and asking about the blanket. Of course, Bong-soon can hear all of Mom’s shameless questions while pretending not to.
Bong-soon nestles in for the night, but then struggles to drift off as her mind churns from her memories related to the kidnapper. With a determined look in her eyes, she heads out into the night alone.
It doesn’t take long before a figure follows her trail and stalks from the shadows. Bong-soon leads him through the neighborhood as he inches closer and closer, until he reaches out to grab her by the shoulder. She spins around, ready to use her strength, but is shocked to see Min-hyuk instead. Awww, were you worried?
He admits that he thought she was sleepwalking, so he followed her to make sure she was okay. When she announces her intention to catch the criminal herself, Min-hyuk tries to dissuade her and lead her back to safety.
However, something has changed in Bong-soon, and so she tells Min-hyuk, “I’ve kept my super strength a secret all my life. But now, I want to use this strength for a good cause.” They end up back at Min-hyuk’s house anyway, just in time to receive Gook-doo at the door.
Gook-doo looks relieved at the sight of an unharmed Bong-soon before announcing that he will also be staying for the night.
COMMENTS
I have never been more ready for cohabitation hijinks in my life. After teasing us last week with the idea, I can’t wait to see what kind of hilarious situations they get themselves into. It was funny to see the ways in which Min-hyuk and Gook-doo bicker with each other in this episode, but I trust Min-hyuk to make things even more (entertainingly) awkward.
Now that Bong-soon has finally begun to see how she might use her powers for good, I could feel something in this universe shift as that unshakable listlessness Bong-soon carried within her began to dissolve. I am so excited to see what she does, because God knows that Gook-doo and his team of bumbling detectives need all the help they can get. Bong-soon isn’t the sharpest tool in the shed either, but at least she’s got the sharpest knife. So that will be helpful, I think/hope.
I am not at all surprised that Bong-soon managed to hide her secret from Gook-doo all these years just based on his observation skills. He seems like the kind of person who is content with accepting things at face value, or accepting his version of the world because that’s the only thing that he wants to believe, even if it means that he suffers for it.
I think that Gook-doo is actually a very important character in this kind of story, because he’s so committed to his belief and core misunderstanding of Bong-soon that it sets the stage for a very satisfying reversal when he finally learns the truth. What I like about having someone like Gook-doo in Bong-soon’s life is that there’s often a version of him in every woman’s life. Someone who undermines and dismisses a woman (even unintentionally) because he believes that she is helpless, doomed to be a victim, and ignorant of the true wolfish natures of men, no matter how independent she seems. That type of behavior is rampant in our society, so I am eager to see what he does after he discovers Bong-soon’s SUPER secret and secret crush, and if his reaction to those revelations will ninform each other in any way.
Min-hyuk is keeping his cards relatively close to the vest, but I think he has already figured out that he likes Bong-soon (and so have we). Now that Bong-soon’s crush is becoming more tangible, I am curious to see how Min-hyuk will introduce himself as a contender for her heart. As of now, he hasn’t got a snowball’s chance, but uphill battles are usually more satisfying anyway. Besides, with someone like Mom on his side, how can he lose?

Me too. I don't like the way he orders her around or yells at her, even if he is concerned about her. Too gruff for my liking.

Totally agree. The show has developed Min Hyuk so gradually and so cautiously and so sweetly that Gok Doo just comes off as abrasive and brush-off-y. I'm totllay on the Mom bandwagon here - Min Hyuk x Bong Soon all the way! Also I believe most of us have been struck with a severe case of HyungShik-ness, so... :) :D

Agree with you . Park Hyung Sik is absolutely awesome here - totally hitting it out of the ballpark ! Liked him in other shows too but he's just getting better and better every day be it Hwarang to SWDBS?! Have a severe case of Hyungshikness myself and looks like it's spreading too ?! Loved the Michael Jackson move too and all of his expressions ! Ji Soo appears wooden and pales in comparison ! PBY is at her comfortable best too around PHS ?! Hope they can extend this show or make sequels so we can watch these guys longer . Don't care about logic or details or editing ! Many more other shows for critics to pick ?!
Have watched and rewatched these and all other related clips on YouTube and other sites waiting for new episodes ! I have severe Hyungsikness as I said ! The music selections and timings are great too . Can never hear " I will always love you " without smiling again and so many more ?! Loving this sweet drama

Agreed with being on the mom bandwagon, but in a way I really like gook doo. Maybe because he reminds me of my older male family members who want to protect the maknae me. It's clear that gook doo just doesn't (or is telling himself that he doesn't) see bong soon as anything other than a little sister that he's known for years, therefore he is comfortable enough around her to be as brusque and shouty as he wants. In his mind he's doing everything for her own good, so he thinks he's totally justified. It probably doesn't help that bong soon's super crush on him makes him think that it's 100% ok to be so brusque with her, because she's always smiling and being all "gook doo ya" whenever she sees him. It'll be interesting to see how all this changes when he finds out about his gf and bong soon's brother, and about bong soon's powers.

At first I also think that Gook Do only think of Bong Soon as a little sister, but this episode and the episode 6 kinda makes me think that he might have liked her as a woman too, but doesn't realize it because he's just insensitive that way. I really like him just like you, and I hope as the second lead he gets his own happy ending too
Anw I'm really addicted with this drama omg what should i do

I kinda started to realize in this episode just how little has happened plot-wise in this show...but I literally don't care because I would still watch it even if the remaining episodes only consisted of Minhyuk lovingly staring at Bongsoon in various locations/outfit combinations/you name it. Seriously, the main couple is too cute and their bickering is too hilarious. I'm just getting back into k-dramas after a year-long hiatus and this show has reminded me why I love them so much.

I'm a little disappointed in Jisoo too! I've only seen him in Cheer Up, but saw how much love he got from Angry Mom. He did always seem charming, but he's coming off really green to me acting wise here. The role might be showing his inability to inflict his own charm and dimension in an otherwise pretty stiff character.
And its really a shame that this is revealing itself when he's acting with MinHyuk (who I'm convinced fits right at the top with the other really charismatic guys in dramaland, ie. Kim WooBin, Seo InGuk etc).

Okay is no one going to comment on the design of the desk that MH got for BS in his office? I thought it looked like a dollhouse desk. I think the desk looks super-cute, but I also thought that it probably reflects the way MH sees BS, like a cute strange little doll?
Also I think in this episode we also got a hint of how BS views her super-power, it is something she is thankful for but at the same time she hides it because she feels it makes her a spectacle.
On a side note: Can I say that I really like the way MH looks at BS, especially during the scene when she was sleeping.

I think he was trying to be funny with it, in kind of an ironic way. He definitely knows what she's capable of now, so I think the kiddy desk was a way to challenge her aegyo innocent act and his pet peeve: her English level (if she's going to study what he considers 'kid English', she should have a kid desk kind of thing). Joke's on him though, the desk is adorable haha

Thanks. I specifically read this recap because I was a bit disturbed by the desk. I mean the pink butterfly stickers? Instead of a fear that he is infantalizing her, I would much rather believe that he is challenging the aegyo act. This seems a bit more consistent with how he has seen her in previous episodes. It would also make him really funny if they both know what he is doing.
I think what was also hard to read , concerning the desk, is that she ended up hiding under the desk when she was embarrassed.
This might just be me. What I enjoy about this show and the discussion page is I get to consider what it might be like for women of petite statue to navigate the world. I have the exact opposite problem. While she might be encouraged to play into the assumption that she is weak and powerless, I am encouraged to be almost gender-less given my height. Both societal expectations reinforce a false division between femininity and strength. I do think/hope the show is trying to subvert that assumption i.e. the CEO seeing her as a sexy woman in part because she is strong.

I don't see how your height has anything to do with gender neutrality. Perhaps it is the city you live in? How you were raised?
My best friend is a 6'4" female and she is stunning and beautiful and in no way dresses or acts masculine... nor is she encouraged to by anyone that we know. She is incredibly strong (she has two gold olympic medals and a silver medal). I think the societal expectation are in your own head and the head of people that surround you. Get out of there and that mindset yourself, because people will treat you how you show you should be treated.
Wear what you want, keep your head high, and don't let them take you down girl! Surround yourself with friends that will not tear you down. Confidence is beauty.
Or... move to a more openminded place.

March 13, 2017 at 10:07 AM
I think this comment is pretty insensitive.
@jm shared her experience of what it's like to be a taller-than-average woman, and you effectively told her that it was all in her head. Just because you don't think her experience is similar to your friend's experience* doesn't mean that @jm is making stuff up.
Society DOES associate femininity with weakness/smallness. Traditionally, femininity is supposed to act as a foil for masculinity; if we assign traits like "big" and "strong" and "tall" to masculinity, then it follows that we associate "smallness" and "weakness" with women. That's why being short is seen as such a detriment for men; they're not measuring up (pun!) to what society says a man should be. It's also a huge throughline in this drama: Bong-soon has been hiding her strength because she wants Gook-doo to regard her as "feminine", and she knows that his definition of feminine doesn't include "physically strong".
Now of course, as you note, that's bullsh!t; people can be beautiful and strong regardless of their height or gender. And thankfully, these attitudes are slowly changing. But that doesn't mean that they don't still linger. It doesn't mean that a woman who is tall isn't made to feel unfeminine and un-pretty. It's really unkind to question the lived experience of someone who might fall outside society's rigid definition of "feminine" and tell her it's all in her head.
*Also, just because you perceive your friend's experience to be hassle-free despite her height doesn't mean that's how it actually is for her. She might just be putting on a good face about it, or she may have become accustomed to it. I would be very pleasantly shocked if she had never felt any of the feelings that @jm is describing.

Bad Cheese Cheddar, it sounds like you have a wonderful friend and that you are a wonderful friend in return. I can tell that you are trying to encourage me to be who I am. Thanks.
Everybody's experience is different. I know that assuming a separation of femininity, beauty and strength is as Andrea said "bullshit". I thought I was acknowledging such in my statement. Here's the deal. It is not always true that people will treat you how you show/demand to be treated. That only goes so far. Sometimes people's preconceived notions of who and what you are prevent them from seeing who you are showing yourself to be. What is great about this drama and the discussion board is that I get to hear and read stories about other's experiences. Why? Because I want to make sure that I am seeing the people in front of me as they want to show themselves to be. I think this is a continual process.

regarding hiding under the desk due to embarrassment. i think it is more like a comic relief or comical portrayal or whatever the phrase is. what i mean is that if you read manga and manhwa, finest example: Ouran High School Host Club, the male lead always crouch at the corner or inside a cupboard when he is sad. i think it's something like that. more like a funny moment.
the thing about this particular drama is that, everything is on the face value. don't think too hard or try to analyse every single action for any deep hidden meaning. it's rom-rom+thriller after all.

I completely get it.
I am shorter than 5 feet in real life and years ago when i was in my mid 20s where I work people talk to me like a child. No respect.
And the jobs I had was a lot of women and men and labor intensive work. And I wore men style clothing for the job. I wasn't even dress cutely.
But the men AND women talked down to me like I was their kid and some were my age or just a little older.
If I argue back they think its cute or rude.
And people older OR younger than me I talk to them with respect. I never bring their age/gender/size/height into anything. I talk to everyone the same.
I even went to a job training session and the WOMEN pure women class was talking to me like their child. And they were like 2 years older than me. And all had kids.
I was very shocked I would think that a place with all women would help and understand each other.
But no, every thing I did they ridiculed me or talked down to me. Like one girl would say "baby need help getting on the chair"
And the job instructor (Also a woman) just ignored it.
I like being small height and looking young BUT no matter what someone looks like I don't know why people feel the need to treat me and others differently.
There was some very nice guys on the jobs who did treat me like their daughter. Very respectfully.
Than the women would look at me like I am flirting or something.
I like being small its all I know. And I like looking young I feel that way in my heart. But why do some people treat me with no respect because of it, I don't know.

@lila Sorry to hear you had a bad time due to being a petite lady. I went through something similar when I was young and first started working - always referred to as baby of the department etc.. In my country, there is an age restriction when you enter certain places. I can't recall how many times I've had to show my ID to prove my age and my friends will laugh at me (good naturedly).
My strategy is to ignore whatever jokes thrown at me and smile. Be professional and good at what you do. Over time, the jokes get old and colleagues get someone else to make fun of.
As you say, the advantage of being petite is we will always look younger than others. Now that I'm approaching forties, it's actually funny when people think my hubby is my father and my kids are my siblings.
So, tall or short, skinny or fat - just be comfortable in your own skin even though there are some occasions where we envy others for what we are not.
bizzybody
March 15, 2017 at 3:07 AM
@jm I'd want to be tall instead of petite; regardless of how people perceive me - but that's just because we humans are never satisfied hahaha... I do notice that tall people usually don't have good posture ie they look as if they're trying not to stand out with their height by 'slumping' their shoulders while short people will pull themselves straighter so as not to appear that... short.
Anyway, hold your head up high and walk tall and proud. Short, petite people like me envy you for your height and wish my growth isn't stunted.

@Siesta yeah I've had that same problem
I hate her attitude at work. Sure he gives her menial tasks, but those fall under her job discription as his bodyguard and (formerly) temporary secretary. A job she willingly accepted. And yet she acts like most of the tasks are beneath her, and does them grudgingly. What exactly are her qualifications to justify that reaction? It's not like he hired her as a game designer and then gave her grunt work. She doesn't have the credentials for the position she wants. She could at best become an intern and then she'd still end up saddled with the grunt work. And Min Hyk is a fair employer. He pays her well, he lets her keep reasonable hours, gives her tasks she is reasonably capable of accomplising and and has made allowances that she could eventually be given an internal transfer, which he is by no means obligated to do. He's a dream boss! (I'm saying this from the perspective of someone who has suffered through multiple demon bosses and also of someone who has a bone deep loathing of Korean work culture). Not once have I seen her give him any credit for any of this.
Then there's her assumption that he's lazy. As someone who wants to work in the game industry she ought to know how it works. You work like crazy through some periods and have nothing to do through others. She's seen him lazing around, but she's also seen him juggle ten thing efficiently. He isn't someone mooching off his inheritance. The guy started his own company and built it to the level it is now! And he did such a good job, his father wants to make him his heir ahead of three older brothers. How the hell did he pull that off if he was lazy?

I agree with this, BS is childish and she doesn't see the big picture, but it doesn't make me dislike her because I know that this is a wacky drama. However I too wish that she would show more gratefulness to her great boss. But I don't see her as his bodyguard. I think he just hired her in name as bodyguard, but she is more of a personal secretary (because the tasks he gives her fall under that category 90% of the time).

True true. I don't get why she assumes he is lazy when it was said that he made the company from scratch without the help of his rich family. That alone implies that the guy got skills. It's a god thing though that outside work she is more tolerable and PBY really made her less aggravating. hahaha i think it is because bong soon is lack of experience in working plus min hyuk's behaviour and ways make it difficult to take him seriously. i mean, if i'm at her place i'll think the same. when bong soon first works with him, he go back when he doesn't feel like working, he goes shopping, playing at the park and only work for 2 days in a week. so it's not surprising that she would think that he is lazy plus, koreans really take 'work hard' as something important, they value it. something like that. and as said above, bong soon is not exactly the sharpest tool in the shed, which is not surprising she didn't put two and two together like you did.

You took the words right out of my mouth. I really love this show and I'm very forgiving about the editing problem and the inconsistencies or lack of explanation of her powers. I don't even mind the many sub plots but the one thing that bugs me is her attitude as an employee. Like you said it wasn't her first choice to be a bodyguard but she still said yes in the end and yet all she does is complain and gosh about GD. She is very unproductive (in my books at least) as a bodyguard. I mean MH stares are nice and all but who the heck sleeps at work in full view of the boss? One of my pet peeves are unproductive people at work . It's a good thing that MH like her cause if it was me I'd fire her arse. That being said I absolutely love the chemistry of the two. Their dyna mics is the heart of the show. The bickering is so natural and amusing but it would be nice if she be more professional when she is on her work mode.

Agreed. I was also thinking, wrt that part about being unproductive and sleeping on the job... dude you've been given a chance to work in your dream company. Your current job leaves you with loads of free time, because you don't need to hover over Min Hyuk while he's in office. The logical thing to do is to treat this as a learning opportunity, ask to observe how things are done, ask if you can take on some minor, quick, easy to do tasks. Show your skills, build an internal rep, earn that transfer you're angling for.
Instead I haven't seen her exhibit the slightest bit of curiosity or interest in how the company works or what they do there. I'm not in favor of reneging on promises, but the way things are, I'll be very disappointed if she does end up working there.

I agree! I get that she's odd, bold, and sassy and it's a great source of humor, but with her sparse resume and her dream being to work at Ainsoft's development team...it feels like she's trying to coast on her physical strength. She must have other talents, right, Show?
I really want her to achieve her dream of working for the development team of Ainsoft and create strong female heroines, but I wish I can see her really working to achieve her goal or show that she's suited for that job instead of counting on MH to get her a spot.
I think it's because MH is so nice and reasonable, that I feel irked when she makes assumptions about him and acts like he's a bad boss when she is an even worse employee. Similar to my feelings of pre-edit Ro Woon in Introverted Boss.

This show manages to make me laugh out loud (which I rarely do while watching shows) at least a couple times an episode. BUT, I do have to say, I was really, really irked at the "uga, uga" comment that MH made right after mentioning Uganda. Someone please tell me that I interpreted this or heard this incorrectly. While I can't say that I was surprised as I am bothered by how other races are represented in kdramas a lot of the time, it really took me out of the scene and cuteness of the show at the point.
Overall, I am finding the character and uniqueness of MH to be what I am most interested in. IMO, there seems to be more layers for PHS to work with in his character vs. PBY's character, who for the moment seems to be relying on her uber cuteness in every scene. I like the trajectory of where her character can go from here, since she now acknowledges that she wants to use her strength for good.

I think Uganda is hard to say in English for foreigners. It could be why it was used.
Have any of you ever sat in on an English class in another country and listened to the students struggle with our pronunciation? Some of our letter combinations are brutal!
There was no racism in what they did.

I was really put off by that part and went over it again and again to see if maybe I missed a few syllables but I think the subbers were correct. I really hate to say it but it totally looks and sounds like he said Uga Uga. I know subbers make mistakes and I really wanted to be wrong here but rewind it, watch his mouth. Unless he honestly can only say Uganda once and then his tongue is tired...homeboy said Uga Uga. Honesly, speaking Uganda should be easy to say for a native Korean speaker having similarity to 간다... not trying to fan flames, I just don't think you are wrong and if you aren't it definitely was not cool.

I haven't been able to respond until now, so I don't know if anyone will see this, but I guess I'm glad that not many people interpreted it the way that I did. Sometimes I'm not sure if I'm being hyper sensitive to these things. However, if it really is the case in which he was saying "Uganda" over again (or at least part of the word for emphasis), it really is an unfortunate coincidence that it had to be "uga, uga," as that specific phrase connotes something not so positive when used in reference to people.

It was totally a racist joke. Trust me I'm African and I've heard that joke all my life, said the exact same way as he said it. It's a classic. Not cute.
I got so disappointed in that show at that point I almost stopped watching. But now I've just decided to root for the second lead instead. He might be rough and have a girlfriend and what not but at least he's not racist.

guess they mean 'catch' and the answer is the same as to why the cop are so dumb, to make the drama last sixteen episode, simple as that. I mean other than cuteness between the lead pair there not really all that much going on..the ceo stalker line seems to have gone for the moment, and other than the gangsters and the cop girl friend there nothing much else.

Bong Soon's main complex is her super human strength, and she feels sorry to all the super heroes and heroines in the movie. But somewhere out there, someone has built his empire around her image - the life of a heroine with extra ordinary strength who saves everyone. That scene where she imagined she was holding Ainsoft's heroine's sceptre - if she only knew that Min Hyuk created her in Bong Soon's imagine..... sigh.
Totally loved that part where he secretly smiled when she told him he would protect her at all cost! He's totally swooned by her. Min Hyuk has always wanted to be protected by his heroine (he had big portrait of her at the door of his save haven and even modelled his main character in her image) and now it's finally happening. He's slowly realizing that his heroine is still human with feelings - she is insecure, she gets hurt, she's very childish at most, she feels inferior of her strength. The longer he hangs around his heroine, the more he becomes attracted to her and how real she is from how he pictured "heroes and heroines" are like. Can't wait for the day he realizes that his heroine now and his heroine from high school are the same person!

I don't get what they're trying to do with Hee-ji here. Unless there's some twist to her relationship with Gook-doo, it just feels flat and unnecessary to involve Bong-ki in this way. I mean, if there's a true connection between her and Bong-ki, she should break it off with Gook-doo. He deserves better than someone who's obviously not as invested in the relationship as he is. (And yes, he obviously has to become single at one point, but it still screams lazy to me.)
Plus, I generally dislike how she's been portrayed so far and I'd love to see her become more sympathetic in the future. Hating a character for the sake of hating a character is only fun (to me) if they're a satisfying antagonist - and that isn't the case here. In fact, I am more than happy with the number of antagonists that are already established. To me, it would feel infinitely more satisfying if it had been developed as a (first) relationship Gook-doo and Hee-ji sort of rushed into with zero expectations (because it is what people do if they like each other, "obviously") and now they finally realize that there's more to that whole love thing.
Minus the casual homophobia, I've really enjoyed this show so far. However, my main hope at this point is that they do more about disentangling/developing the kidnapper/hacker plots because I love a show with a good mystery. Here's hope they'll deliver.

@taml i am also curious where they going with the Hee-ji character. I am surprised why the guys here and on Viki hate her - it's obvious that Gook-do had zero chemistry with her and wasnt interested in the relationship. He come alive only when he was investigating or nagging Boong soon about not being careful enough, but with his gf he was totally boring. HJ has the right to look for alternatives. She was probably testing herself going out for lunch with a guy she liked and probably draw her conclusions about her feelings afterwards and about the future of her relationship. And later she did not answering GS' s messages. All this to me means that she doesnt plan being a two-timer, rather feels uncertain about GS.
About 'Casual homophobia' I think you're right, but i am still happy that the subject openly surfaced in a kdrama, which allows discussion. I also like that MH is not offended if Bong Soon or others call him gay.
As about the reactions of the older generation...it seems pretty realistic.

My guess is that Hee Ji is a future victim, and her being kidnapped is going to make Gook Do feel really guilty about liking Bong Soon, and also create some tension for Bong Ki.
As for the kidnapper plot, I am now thinking Min Hyuk is going to become Bong Soon's tech genius sidekick to her superhero. He's got a lair and all that equipment.

I think they don't like her because she comes off as a cheater. I don't know about you, but for me, a woman or man who actually pursues another person while on a relationship is a cheater even if they haven't done sexual acts. She actively pursues Bong Ki, even waiting for him to finish his work and sending messages that she's disappointed her injury is healing too fast and might not be able to see him. I also don't like Bong Ki patronizing her, he seems like a straightforward person to Bong Soon and Kyung Sim, but with Hee Ji, oh boy...

Well, I suppose it is hard for the writer to be steady in building up the characterization of each single character. This drama has a big crew and lots of things going on simultaneously....
now, seeing it from a human perspective, it can also happens that Bong ki would find it hard to stop this particular girl from the beginning because technically she is still a patient he thinks he would have to see in the hospital, and also, deep down be likes her and has not yet confronted the fact that she is taken.
I don't feel it is totally lack of principles, from Bong ki, it is just a waiting attitude while being extremely polite and civil. He hasn't flirted or thought unshamesly that he could take advantage.
Until now, for me, he is just being polite and a little bit naive. But it may be lack of experience as well.
Even though he has a sister, he looks like the shy type.

I already said in another comment that this drama is a bit of a letdown; there are a lot of scenes were I just scratch my head, like the strangest tone combination of the violent attack against the friend, the killer escaping like that (????) and BS just thinking about her love life a little after all this mess, but... but... I just can't stop watching.
Gosh, Han Min Hyuk. How many subtle layers does he have? He feels like a person that can exist in real life, his low key wackiness it's so believable, he's not an exaggerated caricature.
And gosh, Park Hyung Shik. He's one actor that the more you watch him, the more you fall in love with him and discover his talent. At the beginning I didn't even think he was that good; episode after episode I realized he just has all that micro-expressions and he's so good at changing them juuust a little bit, juust the right amount so you can feel the change in MH.
He's talented. He's the best thing of this drama and I'm sure from now on I'm gonna follow his work.

I feel so sorry for Bong-Soon.
You know, she never chose to have this strength given to her, and she is always only characterized because of it. I don’t blame her for hiding it from everyone, because once people know of her powers that is the only thing people see in her. I find it so hypocritical that Secretary Gong is so scared, and low-key hates her, because he totally agreed to fight her, even when she warned him MULTIPLE times, and even gave him a helmet. It’s kind of his fault he got hurt (even though he was unaware of the extent of her power). Those guys she beat up, are actual THUGS, she was saving someone when they beat her up. I don’t really feel sorry for their predicament, even though Secretary Gong does (ugh) because they are BAD GUYS. We love her because she uses her powers for good usually, but using those powers is difficult for her, which the comedy of the show underplays. For the viewers she is defending good guys, but for her she is violently hurting people, and that weighs on her soul.
I just felt so sorry for her when that clip of her in the club leaked. I could just feel her anguish of people finding out about her powers, and the being put on display like some kind of “freak” in a circus.
Our beautiful hero on the other hand, sees her power, but also notices her spunky and quirky personality as well, as likes both those aspects. Her awesome bestie also sees her personality, which is great!
It kind of makes me realize why she cries at superhero movies (or at least why I think she cries). There a famous quote “with great power comes great responsibility.” You know, not everyone with superpowers has the luxury to become a superhero. Captain America, Spiderman, the Flash, Wonder Woman all were privileged enough to be in situations were they could use their superpowers to fight crime and hurt people under the cape of “hero,” escaping the consequences of hurting people that “normal people have to deal with.” For Bong-soon, she lived in a family were her superpowers were not treated as gifts, but as a curse, and was never allowed to develop or become a “superhero.” If you remember in the first episode, when the show described her lineage, one of the first ancestors was essentially a superhero protecting Korea from enemy invaders and crushing boulders (so awesome). Never treated like the superhero that she is, and being more of a cursed child, no wonder Bong-soon feels kind of like a freak, even though she is absolutely amazing. I think she see’s the lonely and dark side of having powers that cause real physical harm, and the pain it causes to those superhero’s, and so she cries because she emphasizes with their suffering.
That’s just my opinion. I bet in 3 episodes we will find out the real reason why she cries, but I kind of dig this explanation…

I never understand why people always assume Ji Soo doesn't like the girl. In Sassy Go Go, I remember people swore Ji Soo only saw EunJi as a friend until it was made clear he was nursing a broken heart. Then again with Strong Woman where people figured Gook Doo only cares for Bong Soon as a friend and is protecting her like a big brother. While here I am assuming Ji Soo has a crush on every girl. It's a Korean drama after all. Is it because Gook Doo has a girlfriend? Or is Ji Soo not projecting I'm-in-love-with-you convincingly enough?

nah, with Sassy Go Go people caught on to his crush pretty much the instant he started looking at her as something other than a pest, it was quite clearly telegraphed that he noticed her as a girl.
Here, Gook-doo notices that Bong-soon is a girl all right (repeated reference to her assumed weakness) but the show has been playing his awareness of her in that light as either nonexistent or ambiguous - we haven't got a moment with Gook-du himself having the realisation that there may be more than overprotective friendly concern there.

This! Am thinking that so far the show has been only scratching the surface about Gook-doo feelings for Bong-soon. Could be that he is just dense so would need multiple people pointing it to him that it's definitely not "just a friend" thing, but am hoping for more backstory on how they have been so far, like maybe in their school days? Somebody pointed out before that Gook-doo seemed to have a crush on Bong-soon then. For all we know, mom could be the one who played stumbling block coz she wants luxury life for her daughter (and she kinda hates his mother..)

I have a theory that Gook-doo liked BS in school, remember that flashback segment when GD was passing by BS and said to his friend that he liked cute and weak girls? it totally sounded like feeling the ground/flirting because (i saw a lot of boys doing that) that's exactly how he saw her all the time, as weak and fragile.
On the other hand BS was so focused about hiding her super strength from every one and especially from him that she didn't understand the clues. and the way she acts with him can be felt as putting a distance, she's always overly polite with him and etc...
and the thing that we never saw him, caring about his gf :)

I was distressed that BS didn't finish off the kidnapper, or at least whack him hard enough that he passed out or attach him with that pipe to some post and then call the police. Of course, that would probably be the end of the show or at least of a major plot line, but still. Those kidnapping scenes are so brutal and creepy; a whole different tone, while the rest of the show is a lighthearted romp. It's disconcerting.

Never thought that PPL would work on me but lo & behold I actually stopped at a Royce stall today to check out their products. The stall's been there for more than a year & I never gave it a second thought eventhough I love chocolates cuz I thought it's just one of those overpriced, hyped chocolate. Their products are definitely more expensive so I decided not to buy one. Maybe a couple more PPL & I might especially if it will help push our OTP's love line.

Ok, I've never commented before, but I just had to reply to this, haha. Royce is DELICIOUS. I recommend the Nama choco and the chocolate potato chips, that's what they're famous for. For the potato chips, the white chocolate caramel is AMAZING (and normally I don't even like white chocolate). And if you can go to the store, you can taste samples before buying!

What a fun episode. The funniest one for me so far. I think the editing could use a little more grace but the sound effects are so great. So so great. The puppy sounds, the horror, the love songs.
I love love love that moment when Minhyuk and Bongsoon were eating a hungover meal and Bongsoon was telling him, "I'll protect you no matter what happens." The look of smitten glee Minhyuk was trying to hide was so adorably hilarious to me. With that "god fairy waving her magic wand" sound effect playing. GENIUS.
There's this scene where Gookdoo barged in on Minhyuk's office and Minhyuk shushed him because Bongsoon was sleeping but Gookdoo slammed the door anyway and yelled for Do Bongsoon. At that moment, I was thinking, "Ahhhhh. This is why you're not going to win her heart in the end, Gookdoo-yah."
And that epic moment where all the security door opened for Ahn Minhyuk in his most ridiculously endearing fit-for-a-mischievious-young-CEO pose. I replayed it so much and I'm still not sick of it. It's so cool how all the doors opened. And so mesmerizing.

I actually could see the exact same line crossing Min-hyuk's mind after Gook-doo barging into his office. And also a bit of "Sigh... That idiot." from his exasperated expression.

Rather than saying PHS is a very good actor, i would say he is a very charming actor. He has to work on his acting skills but I do think he has a lot of potential. His eyes are so expressive. Whenever he looks sad or looks at his female costars, my heart flutters. He has great chemistry with all his female leads.
PBY is so cute but i hope to see more growth in BS's character.
I don't really care about the gangsters or the murderer. Can we see a little progress in MH/BS relationship. BS still loves GD too much to notice all the things MH does for her. MH is also at fault for teasing BS all the time.

he is very charming indeed but after this drama and hwarang i would also say he is a very good actor. he could convey his character's emotions just with the slightest change of expression. nothing exaggerated or forced in his acting- he totally becomes his character. on the three leads i would say he's on par with PBY (who's also considered a very good actress) and definitely acting circles around Ji soo (who just feels so..green? here)

I don't think they are remotely comparable in their acting skill set.
PHS has very little range (as far as evidence goes), but his small acting is vastly superior to LJS (and, actually, most other K-drama lead actors). I'm not sure how/where/when he did pick this up, but I have to admit that PHS's ability to mix and fade multiple subtle expressions is simply fantastic. It's even more spectacular considering that this is one of the primary weaknesses of most other K-drama actors.

I think his chemistry with female leads from them feeling very comfy with him. He has these puppy eyes and off-screen, he really gives off a shy beta male feel (like HwanKi from Introverted Boss without the serious social phobia) - very disarming and you'd want to come up to him to befriend him - similar reaction when a cute puppy crosses your path.

Altough I'm enjoying this drama but the more I watch the more annoyed feeling coming off. I don't know is it because of bs always yelling back at mh or not but she really not having any respect on her boss esp if it involve gd in it. Thier bickering is cute if not gd's in it. And that gd always yelling and belitle bs and always said bs is weak to him, its like he wants bs and everyone that heard him to think that way. I began to think he have that hero syndrom. A super hero always catch bad guy and rescue the weak girl. Gaaah I can't stand him and his all the time yelling on bs. If I find that kind of man I would surely smack him.
This drama only gem is mh. That man is cute beyond everything. And phs so charming. Like he doesn't act at all. So natural. And I go with mom' team. Hehehe
As for gd's girlfriend she can do whatever because I always ffwd her part except when bk reject her offer. Please don't make bk fall for her. Make it with bs's friend.
Sorry if I'm not on the same page as anyone but bs's crush over gd starts to get me irritated. Poor mh have to deal with it.

I don't think Gook Du has a hero complex, he is just someone who is used to putting up a cold front and hiding his emotions. So when he gets worried, he will yell at BS instead of being gentle, because he is gruff. However I do wish he would tone down the yelling. Also him saying that she is weak is not him putting her down, but him mentioning a simple fact that most women (especially a woman of BS's stature) would not be a physical match to a male, especially a psychopath who is kidnapping women. So he is worried about BS, because he doesn't know of her super-power. MH reacts differently because he knows about her super-power.

I definitely agree with the actor has no subtlety in his potrayal. His character actually is quite common in dramaland. A gruff and stiff man with a gentle heart but doesn't know how to express himself. In the hand of a more capable actor, Gook Doo may not be as annoying. Jisoo on the other hand...sigh..

Agree! I think Gook Du is acting like many many drama male leads when he manifests his concern in the form of shouting/barked instructions. The difference is that we and Min Hyuk know that Bong Soon isn't a damsel in distress so Gook Du seem to be harsh and over reacting. When in any other show, we may be swooning over his poorly expressed concern and subtle compliments plus displays of affection.

I'd have to disagree. I get that it's pretty common in drama land to have mean leads who act all rude, etc. but this GD guy is beyond rude. He's not caring or romantic at all. He's just plain annoying.
His character is far beyond irritating. What kind of person barges into someone else's house? Or tries to think he has a right to disturb someone else while they are working for someone else? Additionally, he acts all high and mighty but he's not really coming from anywhere.
At least.. with main lead characters who act all rude etc.... they actually have something to be rude about bec. they are rich, capable, super smart, etc. This guy just thinks so high and mighty when he hasn't proven anything at all.

Well... that's a bit harsh don't you think? He is a police officer. Not like he is a bum on the street.
And I disagree with you that rich smart successful people get a pass for being rude, whereas Guk Doo isn't (in your opinion) therefore his behaviour can't be excused.
I guess I see the intent behind Guk Doo's actions. He is earnestly trying to do the right thing, even though he lacks the subtlety to do so without rubbing people the wrong way. Even if he is sometimes wrong. Also his harsh words to Bong Soo and treatment of Min Hyuk stem from him being worried about Bong Soo and the belief that Min Hyuk is taking advantage of Bong Soo.
So to me, his actions get a pass because of the intent behind them, regardless of his social status or success or even good looks.
But I do agree with the above comments that Ji Soo isn't exactly carrying off the role very well, so that's why it's coming across badly.

True, but his girlfriend is not a witness to a serial killer case as BS is. Also I don't think his girlfriend lives in the neighborhood were the crimes are taking place? In addition, I think that he maybe really likes BS, but hasn't realized it yet, and that is why he gets so worked up over her being in danger. I also wouldn't put it past him to be hiding something, as another commentor suggested.
But like I said the actor playing the character isn't doing a very good job.

I think it also comes from them growing up together and him always adopting the role of an older brother who is overly protective of her. I think his intent is not bad, but his behaviour does come across as chauvinistic and overbearing.
Also wished Ji Soo added some subtlety to his performance as the way he acts with Bong Soon and at the police station are quite stiff. I know he may not have been written with the best characterisation but I think Gook Doo would be a little more endearing is Ji Soo added some quirks or personality to him. I wish I could really see WHY Bong Soon is so enamoured with him apart from him being a cute/cool kid when he was younger. Because right now, apart from some moments, I even find Bong Soon's brother a little more attractive (as a guy, defs not shipping them) in terms of being able to balance caring about her with being supportive of who she is.

I think GD's yelling would have been less irritating if the dialogue between BS and GD was more than him yelling and BS barely saying anything. Like if they've had some nice, non-tense moments and conversations - about kimchi or something innocuous.
I get that GD is worried, but I wish he could find other solutions instead of yelling at her and just being overall rude. In a previous episode, when he was nagging her at MH's house, I think, it was a nice and reasonable gesture when he settled on giving her that tracking bracelet.

I'm quite annoyed as well, despite liking the show. I figured out what's bothering me while I was watching this episode. It's because, although Do Bong Soon is physically strong, she's mentally and emotionally weak. She's not strong, in the way that we say we admire strong women.
I hope this show shows her growth into a truly strong woman, but the this moment - she's overshadowed by the male leads, she makes silly mistakes like not letting Gook Du know she ran into the kidnapper which Min Hyuk righted by calling the detective, and so on.
I understand Do Bong Soon is like this because of her mum, but they are setting feminism back by a few decades.

I wouldn't say they're setting feminism back by a few decades. I get that they're trying to subvert the stereotype of the physically strong idiot and physically weak smartie, by making the girl the strong idiot and the guy the weak smartie. However, it does come off as one-note in defining what it means to be strong. For BS, the writing is defining strong by physical strength and brashness. I don't think her crush makes her weak. But it sort of sucks that the writing isn't doing more with her character.

I think some of the design of her character makes sense. She is physically strong and, maybe because of that, rather arrogant. Her crush doesn't make her weak, her attempt to pretend to be somebody else does. And, clearly, the show doesn't portray that as something positive. Sure, it doesn't help that the guy she has a crush on is a "benign sexist", so to speak.

This show is one big happy pill thanks to the leads having great chemistry and comedic timing. (Other than Hee Ji who doesn't exist in my world) thanks to this show and Chief Kim I realise my sense of humour runs a lot less subtle and "high brow" than what I thought. This slap-stick in-your-face brand of laughs is pretty awesome. ?
Swoony moments are definitely the soft looks Min Hyuk gives Bong Soon as well as whenever he adores her for her strength and wants to care for her in her times of emotional weakness.
It's also a nice reminder that somewhere out there there is a person who loves us for who we are, super strength and all, regardless of how horrible we may think our "true selves" appear to be.
And trying to change ourselves to suit the tastes of our crush is like trying to shove a square peg into a round hole- it probably won't fit and drive you crazy in the process. (And may result in broken foot injuries!)
Better to wait for our knight on a hover board to zoom in and sweep us off our feet. ?

I don't know what the point of Hee-ji even is. And the actress goes through all her scenes with a grand total of one expression and one tone of voice, those scenes are a waste of film/data.
Bong-soon/Min-hyuk are absolutely adorable together, though. Obvs she isn't used to being able to just be herself around people, and I don't think it even registers to her that she's more her true self around Min-hyuk than around Gook-doo, or that being able to be herself is a good thing. It sucks that she's had to go through so many years suppressing her abilities and her personality, but it's time for that to end.

Thank you for the recap!
I really enjoyed this episode. Minhyuk and Bong Soon interactions are my favorite, and I found myself repeating the funny/cute scenes while waiting for the next episode. I always believed that idols can't act as well as full-time actors/actresses but Park Hyung Sik changed my opinion. He made Ahn Minhyuk so lovable, so quirky and so mysterious. His subtle subtle facial expressions express his feelings just enough for viewers to understand his pov (but not for Bong Soon apparently). And I believe he's not at all gay but has fun riding along other people's assumptions instead of being mortified by the gossip. This is one of his unique points that make him more interesting to the audience despite the usual kdrama tropes (rich heir/CEO/family problems/no mother). In fact, he's probably my favorite type of male lead. Hope Bong Soon realizes how attractive he is soon! Meanwhile let me repeat Minhyuk mocking Bongsun's chirpy steps and his swag entrance!!!

I think Min-hyuk really get how Bong-soon feels about being born with an incredible trait that at the same time also turned her into a spectacle. After all, he is born into a really wealthy but messy family (if you could call them that). It was both a curse and a gift, and I think he fully understand that about her.
I like how calm he was when he first found Bong-soon holding that pole. He didn't think she was being an embarrassment at that moment, and didn't feel the urge to hide what she did or anything. And I love how he just good-naturedly teased her about those footages afterwards. There was a certain 'brace it as a part of youself' spirit in his teasing. It was almost like he wanted to show her that even after he saw her being a spectacle, it wouldn't change the way he view and treat her. That she was still the same Do Bong-soon to him no matter what.
It's just impossible to not love this sweet, caring guy.

I am a little disappointed in ep 5 because the plot has been a little draggy. To be honest, I have zero interest in BS's crush on GD or GD's true feeling towards BS and the director/writer didn't even bother trying a different way to demonstrate their feelings. It has always been BS seeing a shinning GD or GD yelling at BS. It was fun to watch for the first time but it has been repeated too many times. I also think the show has too much on the plate, the cliche love triangle thing, the murder/kidnapping case, the gangsters, main leads' family and friends, the high school students, and all those unnecessary community meetings... as a result it lost the focus on the main characters. It is good to see there will be some growth in BS's character and finally BS is going to try to use her power properly. I still feel bad for the secretary even though he was badmouthing her "behind her back" and I don't know why BS never truly felt sorry for hurting him or her boss. I hope she can be less reckless in the future.

That really bothers me the most about her....don't you feel sorry for your "victims" - honestly I shouldn't even put that in quotations, yes she does it mostly accidental but how can she look to see if the person is still ALIVE and not feel really sorry for sending them to the hospital? Not only that, even when she is using her strength intentional she often hurts people in a way that is not really proportional to their wrong doing. She seriously hurt so many people and she isn't sorry about any of it, she actually just feels entitled

The problem is I don't feel that she is truly sorry for what she did to other people. When she hurt the secretary, she mainly blamed her boss and when she hurt her boss, she somehow thought her boss deserved it? Even for those bad guys, I agree they deserve some punishment but BS is like killing them. I understand BS can't really control her strength at this point but it looks like she never worries about the fact she is hurting people, unintentionally or intentionally.

Overall this episode was a little... slower for me? Compared to previous episodes this one had less comedic effect/significant moments BUT I'm glad that there's finally something going on with the criminal. He tried to attack her friend, got kicked by her, the police are picking up some leads, etc etc. It's making me really interested in knowing how they will solve it, though I really do not want to watch another woman get brutalized. I would hate to think that this show is losing its steam by episode 5, but I still enjoy it so far so all's good.
- One thing I wish the show wouldn't do: the Hee Ji/Bong Ki scenes because they were my number 1 downer in the episode. Cheating is never an ok in my books, and she ignored her message from GD even while making googly eyes at BK. And BK for goodness's sake, why do you not reject her hits on you? Meeting tomorrow even when you're tired and all?
- Oh man oh man how cute is it that he bought such a childish looking desk for BS to sit at? She looks like a little doll in a doll house and I LOVE IT.
- I also really like how I'd originally thought MH would be all cool, telling BS "it's time to go" in the club, but really he just ended up sounding really nerdy and flustered. "It's my pole!" "It's the club's!" "No it's mine!"
- Seriously I LOVE the mum and her penchant for shipping her daughter together with her super-cute CEO. That scene with her packing the lacey underwear and then MH later saying "Uhh.. your mum has strange taste... (BS: erm she just wants me to be comfortable)... uh yeah it's pretty".
- Just for comedic effect I seriously want there to be a scene where they pass out drunk or something and the mum discovers them sleeping together. Like really. Is it just me?
Favourite scene in the show has got to be when BS is sitting in his office and he's being all CEO-like, answering calls and making decisions - basically actually doing work, which she hasn't seen him do since she started working for him. And she looked at him with this curiously surprised look, as though she's only just starting to really see him in a different light. Also can I just mention that weird-MH is adorable but CEO-MH is just straight out hot?

That was also one of my favourite scenes. She has to fall for him somehow, and in there he is actually showing he is a smart and capable runner of a business. He is someone to admire! So young and so successful! I would fall for him immediately

+1000 agree with you on the fact that BS is only now getting to see MH actually be a CEO, instead of all the playing he's been doing since she's known him. I absolutely love both BS and MH as characters, but reading the comments I feel like a lot of people only see the Bad Employee side of BS and the Good Boss side of MH. Yes, BS can definitely be nicer when she talks to MH, but she was also saddled with a lot of tasks that weren't the role of a bodyguard or secretary (granted, she doesn't do her bodyguard role that well either), and MH can be a little childish and demanding when he tells her to do this or that. And while we know MH is a self-made man, it doesn't really click with BS until she sees him actually be a cool, competent boss instead of wanting to play all the time (what she's seen him do for most of their time tgt). So I really liked that scene too, bc now she's def seeing him in a new light, and is probably starting to respect him more for this new side of him she's seeing. I can't wait to see both of them grow as characters.

Agree! I read a lot of comments about how BS really sucks as an employee, but I think that's easy to say from a 3rd person's POV. When you're the actual employee, however...
While I didn't mention it in my comment, I actually don't think she's being a terrible employee per se. I think from the start, it was clear that the way MH runs his company is not in a strict, "I am the boss bow down to me" kind of way. He has a good relationship with his employees (also as seen from his interactions with his secretary).
Of course, that doesn't mean that employees are free to be as rude as they want to, BUT I think that should let us cut some slack for BS. I'm pretty sure a lot of us in RL actually talk bad about our bosses, make silly assumptions like "I'm sure he would want my video to go more viral" when we are being snarky and spiteful about them. But some of these things are said in spite and not meant to be harsh or negative? Not sure if I'm making sense there. Granted that he's been extremely petty in bossing her around (they seriously match each other in terms of pettiness, LOL), I think there should be some leeway for her to be annoyed with him.

The police friend is hella annoying!!! He ruins the drama for me. Ugh. Can't he just disappear from the story completely?
He adds nothing to the story other than being annoying!!!
Also... the female lead is getting on my nerves too. She's getting on my nerves the way the police guy is getting on my nerves. I really dislike how she treats the boss the way she does. I can't wait until she can stop trying to push herself towards the police friend; them together, in a story panel, equals everything annoying and irritating.
The only person worth watching, at this moment, is everyone else besides the police friend, the cheating girlfriend, and the female lead's annoying interaction with the police friend.

I actually enjoyed seeing Gook-Doo a bit more in this episode than in the past ones. While he does come off as overbearing (and annoyingly chauvinist), I think this episode represented a little bit of growth in his character. He realized that Bong Soon's safety needed to be put before his feelings, and it was kind of satisfying to see that he actually put her first. Nevertheless, I can't WAIT until they reveal Bong Soon's strength and knock that damsel-in-distress image right out of him. It's funny, because Bong Soon's in love with the guy who likes delicate girls and that's shaped so much of how she regards her strength. On the other hand, Min Hyuk fell for who she is right away, supernatural abilities and all. Can't wait for BS to kick the creepy mask guy's butt into next week!

Regarding the disappearing videos of drunk Bong-soon and the
phallic symbolpole:1: It seemed like there were lots of people recording, so there should have been more than one video and I doubt anyone can make them all go away, even though killing news stories seems to be a kdrama Korean speciality.
But if you can make all those videos disappear...
2: That's why you should always download important stuff (like kdrama episodes) instead of counting on them still being accessible later.

Am I the only one seriously relieved to find that Min Hyuk is indeed working, albeit his constant 'privacy' schedules, and that he's actually good at it, or emanates the aura that he's good at it? I kind of hate it when KDramas ignore profession and just because someone is a CEO they can go wherever they want, any given time? Like I can barely get coffee or water the time I sit on my workstation! And working men who's good at what their doing is smexy!!

MH is not only the CEO, he's also the owner of the company. so that does mean he gets to arrange his own work schedule since most of the actual daily operations are done by employees. and the fact that he gets so much free time actually means he's a damn good boss who knows how to manage his company to run itself and leave him a lot of time to do his job as a CEO- mainly planning/strategizing, making executive decisions, lobbying other CEOs etc. established company owners who are still tied down by work are usually guilty of micro-managing and are probably workaholics to boot

My husband is a hard core gamer and he told me that it takes years to develop one game. Him being the CEO he would probably be the last one to call the shots when it's ready for release so maybe that's why he has lots of "free time". I don't think that he is doing nothing it's just that the gaming industry works differently than the usual corporate set up. And you were right about Minhyuk being smexy doing his thing.

You know, I finally realized this drama reminds me a bit of older kdramas. There's a loose plot and a lot of random, filler scenes that are purely for entertainment value. Recent dramas have gotten a lot tighter with their storylines and writing so it took me awhile to get back into this "just enjoy the ride" kind of show. Still, despite all the flaws, I'm enjoying the otp enough to leave each episode with a smile on my face. : ) they really lucked out with park bo young though! Anyone else might have just been annoying.

one thing that’s super annoying to me in this drama is how useless BS is as an employee. i mean, she’s got a chance to work with the CEO of her dream company, with a really high pay, can’t she be more professional about it? granted it’s not the position she wanted but man, she’s seriously undermining women employees everywhere here with her constant badmouthing and snarking at her damn boss and basically just aegyos her way into his favor. ugh. can’t she be proactive and like, research into how to be a good bodyguard and actually work towards her goal? coz MH did promise to get her into the Dev team if she manages to protect him well

Omg, when her friend got attacked by the mask kidnapper, I was freaking out because she's such a good person and friend to Bong-soon and I legit started imagining Bong-soon getting married and she won't be there as her maid of honor and she won't be there to tell Bong-soon "I told you so! See? Your CEO's not gay!" Waaaahhhhh~ all those things ran through my head when that happened. Am I the only one that does that? Anyways, I'm SO GLAD Bong-soon made it in time to save her friend, omg. The LOOK in Park Bo-young's EYES were so strong and powerful. It reminded me of Gong Yoo's bloodshot eyes during The Epic Rescue scene.

I know many beanies predicted Hee-ji to be the next victim, but I was always afraid Kyung-shim might be next bride. Because that would totally turn the kidnapping case into something personal for Bong-soon and finally drive her to use her super strength for something good.

Now for the problems. Mom is a big one, but I fast forward through her scenes, so I don't have much to say about her.
Another one is Gook Doo's girlfriend. I was willing to make concessions (tiny ones) for her. It's not unrealistic to be in a relationship and develop a crush on someone else. That lunch date was also not too bad, as in in the initial stages of a crush one might convince oneself that it was all innocent and platonic. But that changed in this episode. She was overtly flirting (I couldn't get a read on the guy. It was hard to tell if he was flirting back or taking her words at face value). I'd love to see a female character taking such initiative if she were single but this one is not. And she knows what she's doing going by her guilt over Gook Doo's message and the fact that she lied to him about that lunch date. It's okay to fall out of love, it's even okay to be interested in someone else if you're not happy in your current relationship. But in that case, have the courtesy to break up before you go haring off after someone new.
But my biggest annoyance is Bong Soon's attitude, especially to Min Hyuk. Don't get me wrong, I dont expect her to magically fall for him because he does nice things for her that she doesn't even know about. Especially since they fall under the purview of basic decency. So I'm not giving him points for them even though it's refreshing to see him do them. But I find her attitude towards him very off putting.
First of all she gives him no credit what so ever for anything he does. Case in point, her assumption that he was more likely to have made her video go viral. Not assuming he'd help her is one thing but what has he ever done for her to have such a poor opinion of him? Sure he teases her, but she gives it back to him in equal measure.
Then there is her arrogance when dealing with other people. Eg. her interaction with the secretary. Sure she heard him tell Min Hyuk to be wary of her. But he didn't bad mouth her, didn't call her names, didn't make up lies. Here's a girl who looks small enough to pass for a school kid, and yet sent a full grown man flying. He's dealt first hand with the consequences of her strength, isn't it reasonable for him to caution their employer about her? And yet she threatens him. That is basically bully behaviour. This actually should be the real context in which she might misuse her powers.

I think a lot of people forget she also somewhat see's Minhyuk as a love rival haha so in line with her character she's passive aggressive with him esp. as he often waves the employer card around with her. I also think this is how the writer is trying to portay Bong Soon as being super feisty and not-as-weak-as-she-looks. And then there will be the whole she-realises-he's-different-than-she-thought so she will fall for him because there's no quicker way to fall in love than have someone subvert your expectations of them.

@inxomnia you do have a point about her seeing him as a rival. But I have consistently seen him do exactly what you mentioned and she doesn't seem to give a shit. Which okay she is under no obligation to, but then that's neither here nor there. As for him waving the employer card, well I've mentioned this in earlier comments as well. Truthfully, in their employer-employee reactions it's always her behaviour I find lacking not his. Whenever he gives her any work, she cribs and complains and acts very unprofessionally. Sure the job isn't one she wanted, but she did accept it willingly. So her reactions are uncalled for. He's the rich dude, but she's the one acting like an entitled brat.

Completely agree. Especially the last sentence, she really is an entitled brat. It makes sense considering that she never really had to fear any consequences for her doing except for the "curse" that never activated even with her misusing her power all the fricking time. Also considering that her mother constantly demonstrated how you can just use people around you to your advantage and treat loved ones like slaves and that this behavior is totally fine. She expects the world to move around her and the annoying thing is: it does. She is the protagonist after all.

I agree. She feels like an "entitled" character. She hasn't even done any bodyguard worthy actions to warrant her "entitled attitude." She comes off as such an "ungrateful person." I mean.... she didn't even bother saying thank you to her boss... when he tried protecting her... instead of her protecting him... when they were getting shot by bullets. Also, how she could easily bad mouth him after he easily forgave her for her super badmouthing of him. Even at the very beginning... when the boss told the police a different story... when they were saying she beat up the bad goons. She never said thank you!!! I just don't see how she sees him as such a bad person and that's what annoys me about her.... especially when she is clearly the one who is super ungrateful.
Additionally, as mentioned by other comments... she doesn't even feel genuinely and sincerely sorry for causing harm towards other people... whether intentionally or unintentionally.

Thanks for the recap, murasakimi!
Really love the bickering between BS and MH. Always so amusing. Love the way MH looks at BS and that doghouse study desk!! LOL BS is like his personal pet and he's gotta have her close. Love his swag entrance. Can't wait for BS to finally put pit skills to good use.
I think the background music and sound effects are brilliant in this show. Always makes the scenes funnier.
Not surprised about GD gf being interested in BK more than GD. I think GD likes BS, but maybe he doesn't realize that he does. That's why all these years, from high school till now, he's never asked her out and only dated other girls.
Mom is always too funny in her readiness for our main couple to get together.
The kidnapper is freaky. Can't believe he beat KS up like that. And feel scared for BS since she keeps encountering him. I want our main 3 cast to join hands to get this dude.
Looking forward to cohabitation hijinks!!

I feel somehow Gook Do ends up in relationships rather than be proactive about them perhaps? Like in high school how he "somehow" ended up dating the prettiest girl in the school, and with Hee Ji she seems like the type who would be the proactive one (ie with Bong Ki, damn gurl she acted quick!). I feel he's not the type to be proactive in relationships as well as super oblivious from the glimpses we've seen.
Also, when Gook Doo asked Bong Soon why are they friends, it's like he never realised how she inserted herself in his life and stayed close to him. He probably just took her presence in his life for granted, until he now feels she's in danger and yknow has a really hot and adorable CEO around.

"I feel somehow Gook Do ends up in relationships rather than be proactive about them perhaps?"
That's also what I get from him. He looks like the kind of guy who would say yes when a girl ask him out just because he doesn't really have any reason to say no. I think his relationship with Hee-ji also started in similar way.

I think you're exactly right. That's why when he dated that prettiest girl in high school and HJ now, I don't get the vibe that he's really into the girl. But he never took the initiative with BS either, so I think he's a blend of not being proactive and also somewhat clueless about love and his own heart. I wouldn't be surprised if he's the one who always gets asked out since he attracted so many girls during school days.

Ok, after a certain time, I do find that Ji Soo rrally need to improve his acting. He is either cringing or yelling. The emotion or expression that he conveys feels repetitive.

Out of all the characters in this story.. i feel the most for MinHyuk thus nore invested in his story than anything else.
I am actually disliking how BongSoon is dismissing MinHyuk everytime GookDoo is around. She mistreats MinHyuk thats why I get turned off with BongSoon despite the character being played by LBY. She has this blinders on so I am somewhat interested on how the writer is gonna turn the tables on this love triangle.
I really want to see major forward movement in MinHyuk's bid for BongSoon's heart. Otherwise just leave MinHyuk alone and let him have a better love interest who will take care of him well. Let BongSoon have a taste of lil ol jealousy is at all possible at this point.
