I am just still fawning over the surface rescuers we saw on monday, they are true heroes. awesome stories they shared, we had lots of laughs. can there be a drama of the lives of surface rescuers at sea? I bet it would be expensive though. they could use old helicopters no longer in use... and a pool instead of open sea? I dunno. I just became such a fan of these guys.
they also help in search when some grandpa goes missing in the forest. They said they once had a special agreement with the russian borderguard to search very close to the border without being detained, cause the grandpa hadn´t been found in the 20 km radius and they found him 2km from border but then had to go back cause grandpa instisted they fetch his mushroom basket.

Btw Estonia is 99 y.o. today! We had such a nice parade, I don´t usually like military parades but this time we also had 20 police dogs and the bag pipe squad LOL. Looked like they were having lots of fun, the dogs must have been thinking "oh goodie, goodie, a long walk! yessss!" ah it is so hard to resist petting police dogs. But the President lady constantly looked like she is about to giggle. well, she always looks like everything is so laughable. it is kind of confusing.

Watching: ...well, I think Defendant is the only one right now. I haven´t really watched the last 2 episodes of Hwarang, but already thinking of alternative versions and storylines. Surprisingly though, I haven´t had that much fun in the comment section with most dramas I have liked than I did with Hwarang. what´s with that?

so propose a remake scenario for Hwarang (I just hope they won´t go with a movie version with the same actors!)
Mine would either be a full on action drama with the Hwarang boys all being baddies and thieves first - even the king - and turning righteous through teamwork and standing up against greater evil. with lots and lots of fighting, but maybe a few equally sinful and interesting girls. the other version would be a boy melodrama where they have more than the bromance. no girls.

what is the most fun thing to watch right now?

Re: Hwarang
Actually, I don't even mind if they go full fun and silly a la the first 6 episodes. Though full action is also good. I wish I can watch them being badass.

Happy 99th to Estonia!

Regarding something fun to watch right now, that would be Chief Kim. It's hilarious.

@redfox: I second Chief Kim for something fun. However, it's so hilarious and doesn't take itself seriously, so the comments section is actually boring (like a string of 'that was soooo funny!' comments). Like you, I enjoyed commenting on Hwarang more than other shows.

Except regarding Yul (the prosecutor turned finance director). A few of us are beating our heads trying to decide if this is a good or bad guy, or something in between.

It's always more fun to bash awful shows and joke about them, than to write seriously about how much you love a show kkkkk.. There's a reason comedians are generally "negative" and poking fun at things ;)

Hwarang:What's With That? Hey, have we just hit upon the title for your remake? I will always have positive memories of Hwarang because we all had such a fun watch together. That and the guys' performances. redfox, I'd suggest watching the last two episodes just to see Ji Dwi and Sun Woo being at their best. And for what it's worth, I'd gladly watch BOTH of your versions.

Yup. I think the actor's were just fine. It's either the writing of scene selection/cuts or a combination of both that sent it downhill IMO.

no complaint about the actors, they did their best, I just fear I will be sad and pained to see them after the disappointing past few weeks. at least they found new friends and seemed to have fun regardless, that´s what counts more.

Funnily enough I'm actually having the most fun watching Introverted Boss. I don't know, it just always makes me smile when I watch it. Probably because Hwan Gi is amazing and acted superbly and I relate with him so well.

Although I have about 4+ dramas to finish, I'm only really watching that and Oh My Ghostess at the moment. I will be picking up Strong Woman Do Bong Soon, and I will binge Tomorrow with You when it's finished, but I'm trying to keep the number of dramas being watched at one time at around 3, or my life just gets out of hand... (see end of last year when I was watching like 7; 4 airing, and 3 others hahaha)

police dogs and a bagpipe squad - that would make any parade a fun one and a good way to celebrate your independence !

I am also watching Defendant as my only kdrama but there is lots of fun k-entertainment to watch, too. I am missing Legend of the Blue Sea and Gobln still.

Oh, aren't there a lot of peripheral characters in Defendant that i hope come through like Cha Min Ho's mother and his secretary (what makes him so loyal anyhoot)?

another snow day here. it is so cold.

I am finally watching Weightlifting Fairy (and liking it.) But please, somebody, anybody, what is the name of the actress that plays the 2nd lead (gymnast)'s little sister. The one who runs away from home and she has to go put her in a taxi back home.

What show do I recognize her from?

A lot of K-Pop Music came out in February for some reason. They're all reaching a different level:

BTS: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9DwzBICPhdM

Tablo: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NQunCjYdAcU

K.A.R.D.:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=41Dp7Q-SM1Y

Where would K-Pop be without Youtube?

LOL Korea and Japan (don't know about China), don't use youtube much, they have their own video-streaming sites, so I'm guessing K-Pop would be fine ;) It became a "thing" in Asia even without youtube.

The question, however, is, where would international K-Pop fans be without youtube? (Answer: In Korea! :P)

Yeah there were like 27 comebacks/ singles this month. I'm not sure why companies all decide to have comebacks at the same time but anyway.
As for the reach on you tube, a lot of it depends on how big the int. fanbase is (or how crazy it is, e.g. BTS)

1

Required fields are marked *

27?? Wow... I think it may be because the industry is bloating atm. I remember a rookie/new-ish group saying that there were 76 other groups that debuted the same year as them, which is just... crazy O.O

Your last sentence made me laugh so hard! I used to be fine with BTS and thought a couple of their songs were kind of catchy, but (some of) their fans really are crazy. And literally everywhere. It's gotten so bad that my annoyance with them even extends to the group itself...
And then there are the completely chill fandoms who yell at their "oppas" to get married soon and be happy haha :D

Yeahhp 27... Crazy right??
http://vixxeroni.tumblr.com/post/156409961017/just-in-case-you-werent-already-informed

Hahahaha understandable. I like BTS. As a group. I think they're great. The majority of their fanbase though, international and Korean, actually kind of scares me, and the whole record breaking thing gets soooo out of hand it makes it hard to enjoy them when everyone is just so... intense about them? I guess?
I don't get annoyed at the group though. I relate to their weirdness too much to get annoyed at them haha.
It just makes me glad that I follow some less viral groups with a different caliber of fanbase. Block B fans are a breath of fresh air after an ARMY comment section hahaha

Dude, where's that fandom at? Sign me up for chill fanbases everywhere please. haha

0

reply

Required fields are marked *

Yeah agreed, they can be really intense and kind of scary. I tried watching that show where they went to the US, but found them kind of boring, though I like Rapmon. I usually need JJY level of weirdness to be intrigued haha!

Both Super Junior and FT Island fandoms are extremely chill. I mean, obviously there will always be creepy fans, but they're really few here. I think it's partly because both groups are #1 in teamkills lol, there are practically no secrets, and they're open about the fact that they're not, y'know, monks ;) When Hongki from FTI recently had a dating "scandal", 99% of fans were just happy for him, it was so great to see. And SuJu fans always tell the guys to get married already ha!

But both groups have also been vocal about how they want their fans to behave and how they don't really consider sasaengs to be fans. I think the groups play a big part in how their fandom behaves, though most don't seem to be aware of that/they're too restricted by the company wanting them to seem like perfect innocent angels, which really encourages sasaengs tbh. Most of FTI's fans are now there mainly for the music (and their honesty lol), so how serious the group is about writing their own stuff etc also plays a part.

Block B is actually one of the few KPop groups I listen to! I sort of follow KPop and find it to be a fascinating, strange world lol, but I'm more into rock etc, so I rarely listen to it. But Block B make some really decent songs. And yeah, their fandom is much more relaxed!

Btw, if you relate to groups that are weird, you'd probably love FTIsland! Try watching their Weekly Idol appearances and you'd know what I mean, the newest one (ep 196) is 100% weird and hilarious! ?

1

Oh American Hustle Life? Yeah... I haven't watched that either... I've heard some bad things about it. Except for the dance off. Because dancing. And Jhope.

FTIsland! Yassss already a fan my friend! They're fantastic in every possible way. Musically, on stage (shit what I wouldn't give to see them live) their attitudes. So great. Tbh honest if there wasn't some so called "scandal" or other surrounding Hongki, I'd be surprised haha. Not that he, or I, or apparently the fans care, which is great.

I mean, does /anyone/ consider sasaengs to be fans? I dunno, I think that's part of it. I think there's a lot more to crazy fan culture though, and a band and a company can only do so much to prevent what an individual or group thinks is acceptable. I think part of it also has to do with how the fame culture creates a gap between the entertained and the entertainer, that uncovers all sorts of issues with how we treat people in a place of fame, as it were. And some people are better at dealing with that pedestal we've created for them than others.

Block B is fantastic on so many levels. I got into them first because of the music, and they were the first group I even LIKED musically, probably cos they break music genres left right and centre.
Even now I like very few groups fully. I'm weird in that the music I love covers a very broad spectrum, but I'm also picky when it comes to styles? I guess. (But I'm also more of a rock/metal girl too! Yay!)
But FTIsland and Block B for some reason I can pretty much always listen to. Which is saying something, means they made it into my top 10 artists, which means I really like them as music artists, for me to listen to them THAT much.
Block B also has a lot of leeway in what they do and how they act I think. They're very open about everything and their company basically lets them do whatever they want. They're also practically insane haha.

Kpop IS a very fascinating, strange world indeed. It's not a world I would say I like to be honest. The amount of time I spend analysing it would attest to that. I just like the music I like and the people I like, but in any fan circle it can get too much sometimes.

It is. The one in our backyard blossoms much earlier than the one in our front yard, (different species).

Spring has definately sprung here.

Was outside yesterday, for work, absolutely beautiful day.

We have several bird feeders in the front yard. Squirrels saw them as a all you could eat buffet.

My wife saw a post on the web where a person attached a Slinky to the feeder pole. It works like a charm! Squirrel can't get a grip in order to climb pole, has to be content with eating what falls on the ground.

Omo, it's almost March!

Not much going on TV-wise. Because I moved today!!!

I was on the train since Wednesday evening. Nice ride, pretty scenery, lost my passion for mountains lol. It did make me very tired, which in turn made last night difficult because I needed to "detrain" (as the conductor kept saying) at 2:55am, so up all night.

Beanies are wrecking me with the fantasy casting for Reid in the K- Criminal Minds.

I got less than 2 minutes into Strong Woman Do Bong Soon episode 0. And I love how she's introduced!

Thank you to everyone who responded to me last week.

Media this week

Korean:
My Sensitive Boss - on ep 10
Dear Fair Lady Kong Shim - paused ep 13
I'm getting annoyed with everyone. I told my friend to let me know when she passes me so I can start watching again. Hope the negative emotions go away.
I Hear Your Voice - on ep 5
Real Got7 - on se2 ep3

Japanese:
Maid Sama - on ep 3

Reading:
Shanghai Girls - finally finished. I'm taking a break from historical fiction. The children keep making me frustrated and the endings are too ambiguous. Extremely well written, though!
The Second Mrs. Darcy it's a reread. It was the only book I wasn't about to ship off. This baby has to be protected by no one other than me.

Goodbye. I'm off to nap.

Hello Beanies! Long time no OT! ?

Been busy, but wanted to say Hi and say Thank You to mary for the great suggestion- Sungkyunkwan Scandal is crack for me at the moment- just what the doctor ordered for my post fan meet Song Joong Ki cravings! He as the fan-welding peacock-preening happy-go-lucky academic with sardonic wit is super amusing. I inhaled the first 3 episodes in a single day!

And I started watching the medical jdrama A Life~ Kanashiki Hito. Is anyone else watching? I like Takuya Himura here better than I did in Pride. It was pretty realistic, up till the end of episode 1 when they asked him the famous cardiothoracic surgeon to do difficult brain surgery. ? is every famous doctor in dramaland now a disciple of Teacher Kim Sa Bu? ? I'm gonna keep going though, even though I suspect the wait for subs may be excruciating.

Also must share the news that my Boy is "graduating" from his transitioning "special school" now to mainstream preschool in April. The teachers think he is ready and I'm ridiculously proud of this milestone, which may seem tiny but is huge to me. His new school principal also seems confident that he will be fine in the new school so I am hopeful that all will go well! Thank you to all the Beanies here who have given me encouragement in one form or another- you all are awesome! ❤

Wondering what shows you guys are waiting for next? The only one I'm excited about is Strong Woman which is starting tonight. I hope it will be good- I intend to check it out for sure once subs are out!

Have a great weekend all!

I'm a little burnt out on kdramas these days, but SKKS is perfect for the Song Joong-ki factor (also the Yoo Ah-in factor, but it's amazing what SJK could do with a role that wasn't even a second lead, more like a third lead)

SJK was such a cutie and pretty boy in SKSS and I love him with Yoo Ah In so much. Yes that was probably among the drama that I really had SLS, I didnt follow DB that much during that time, so I was under impression Yoo Ah In was the main lead. Only God knows how frustrated me and my friend who were watching it together. Luckily SJK was around to accompany YAI. heee.

Also, coongrats, michykdrama, on your son's advancement!

Aloha, Michykdrama!

So glad to hear that your little fella is doing well and graduating to a new school! Congratulations and best wishes for his continuing progress. ;-)

It was pretty realistic, up till the end of episode 1 when they asked him the famous cardiothoracic surgeon to do difficult brain surgery. ? is every famous doctor in dramaland now a disciple of Teacher Kim Sa Bu? ?

Wait a second! Shouldn't they have paged Dr. Lee Young-o?!?

If they really wanted to do it right, they would have tracked down Buckaroo Banzai, the brain surgeon who really is a rock star.

Key quote: "Remember... No matter where you go... there you are."

Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension (1984) Trailer

Memorably cheesy and set in my home state of New Jersey that looks suspiciously like southern California, with a young Jeff Goldblum early in his career. Can't remember if this was before or after the terrific EARTH GIRLS ARE EASY.

Just in case you need a little madcap insanity to balance out your Kdramas and Jdoramas. ;-)

I can always trust on you to find the most seemingly obscure but amusing stuff!

Ummm. The reason I know about such questionable artistic productions is I either watched it in a theater when it was released, or rented the video some years later. I only just thought to look for it online, and there it was on YT. It's a miracle!

I admit it: I am a dinosaur with an off-beat sense of humor.

Seeing the words "cardiothoracic surgeon" and "brain surgery" in the same sentence gave me flashbacks to our favorite medical dramas of 2016. And then for the first time in about 20 years I recalled the rock star who's also a brain surgeon. I had a feeling it would tickle your funny bone. ;-)

As an extra added bonus, let me recommend ATTACK OF THE KILLER TOMATOES if you need to let your mind unravel after a hard day in the OR. ;-)

By the way, I watched the first two episodes of MISAENG last week -- and it was great. Very engaging, even as it was painful to behold. Reminded me only too well of being wet behind the ears and clueless during my early forays into the job market. And a couple of dreadful places I worked at later.

Also, just this past week, OnDemandKorea added English subtitles to REBEL. I've been watching raw episodes there to scrutinize facial expressions and body language without the distraction of reading. ODK is one of the few places I know of where you can watch it Kdramas both with and without subs. Usually when subtitles appear, the raw goes away. I've been enjoying their subtitles. I don't know if they're better or worse than others. Just another interpretation to consider along with the recaps.

Currently waiting for:

- Stong Woman - I never watched PHS in anything other than Heirs so I was skeptical when the casting news broke, but the teaser and BTS clips so far look so darn cute! The bromance (?) is also something else so it looks like it's gonna be a fun ride. Obviously I am most excited to see Park Bo Young back on screen.

- Kim Seul Gi's new web drama with the actor from Splash Love (albeit not exactly the right actor we prayed for, dramagod!)

- Kim Ji Won and Park Seo Joon's new drama - what a dream casting! She is one of my favorite actresses after Heirs and it's about time that she shines. Even better that she is paired up with Park Seo Joon, he stole my heart in Witch Romance but his subsequent dramas have been disappointing (She Was Pretty, Hwarang) so I am crossing fingers for good script and PD.

Yup! I'm watching A Life right now after you recommended it to me last week! I watched up till the last episode because Chinese subbers are very efficient! Kimura Takuya isn't even a cardiothoracic surgeon, he's in fact a paediatrician who did another specialisation in cardiothoracic (???). I'm confused but he seems to be able to operate in both adults and non-adults and in different body parts. My jaw dropped when the husband who is apparently the best neurosurgeon asked him who isn't a specialist to do the surgery.

Also, if the wife is suffering from such serious brain tumour which is already affecting her, is she even allowed to hold the knife? I don't even think it's fair for the husband to hide this information from her because it may affect her patients too.

This drama reminds me of how I thought Romantic Doctor Teacher Kim would be at the beginning. There are a lot of hospital politics and then conflicts between management and saving lives. Imagine a world where Teacher Kim and Kimura Takuya's role in A Life met. I bet they would have so much in common.

By the way, the first surgery in the drama was similar to Chairman Shin's surgery in RDTK. When I heard 'pump on', I actually recalled what you wrote in your medicap HAHA.

Haha yes the neurosurgeon asking the heart surgeon to operate on the brain for him was really strange and laughable. But I haven't watched episode 2 yet so I'm withholding judgement first. But yeah I'm totally gettting flashbacks from RDTK too!

Actually the start of cardiac surgery is all pretty standard- you will pretty much heard a lot of the similar jargon and the same machines! only in this case Kimura Takuya is doing some really fancy stuff that's not the usual. I have no clue what he is doing. Haha.

Song Joong Ki was my favourite in SKKS :--)

Congrats on Boy's entering a mainstream class! And I hope all will work fine! My Boy was able to follow the complete basic education (here up to 12 yrs). Now we were sort of forced to change for a special auti-class... at first we were quite sad about it, but now we see that Boy is very very happy there, thus we are happy as well :--)
I think in the end it is all about the teachers and the environment... so as long as the kid is growing and blooming, being in a "normal" or a special class, all is fine...

You are so right! It's really just about seeing them happy and progressing and enjoying. That's what I want foremost too!

I guess I'm still struggling occasionally with the diagnosis since he has made so much progress lately. Many parents tell me they think he is "normal" but on the flip side all the doctors are certain he definitely "doesn't have normal social communication". So I yo-yo about how I feel. But thanks for reminding me again that it's really just a label and I have to remember that he has to be happy and growing well foremost- where he does it, be it special school or mainstream, is irrelevant.

Thanks @Dorotka ❤

I forgot where I read this but one drama episode cost $200k and sageuk $500k. The bigger the stars the more expensive it's going to be.

W had good visuals, but I do agree that a lot were probably CGI. Oh and those beautiful drawings they did of the cast for the manhwa portion. I still remember the goosebumps I got when they showed both the real world and the manhwa world together. Amazing stuff!

Have you seen the last two-part special episodes of Goblin? They showed how they shot some of their best scenes like that scene of Shin and his little servant on a ship or when Shin sliced a car into two. They weren't CGI. They literally cut a car into two and they built two ships. I'm impressed. I hope the DVD has tons of the behind the scenes/making footage because I am so interested in that aspect.

Aha, so that's what's up (or not) with the SAIMDANG recaps. Thanks for the heads up.

I'm still enjoying it, although REBEL is the drama that's really floating my boat at the moment. Terrific! Episode 7 is a blast, while Episode 8 continues the revelations.

Oh, yeah. Mount Geumgang (a.k.a. Diamond Mountain) gets a little shout-out in REBEL this week, while its portrait is apparently still doing a cameo in SAIMDANG. ;-)

But I wonder what the heck happened to VOICE this week. Laryingitis?! I think the baddies from the Eighth Dimension (see #5.3 above) beamed up the scriptwriter and production staff and replaced them with changelings. The show seems to have gone sideways and pear-shaped simultaneously. Or is Kim Jae-wook some kind of Red Kryptonite? -- I'll keep watching for Jang Hyuk while I wonder where the plot of my show went. Paging Dr. Buckaroo Banzai!

Continue to watch TOMORROW WITH YOU while expecting the dropping of more shoes. It suddenly dawned on me this morning that Al Steward might have foreseen this drama years ago. The lyrics are spot on. ;-)

There you described Misaeng in the best possible way "Excellent and painful".
This is what the show is. So close to reality and fits in any job. That is why I consider Misaeng better than other career dramas. Because Jang Geu Rae could be an accountant, an officer, a media person- anything. It relates to any newbie in every field.

I started Misaeng (finally) as well and am up to episode 8 since a week ago. I concur utterly that it is excellent and painful. It's perhaps a bit more intense for me because it's exactly the business (trading) in which I worked, but always from the customer side. I can't believe that the minutiae of these transactions were interesting to other viewers but to me things like running out of quota are as suspenseful as any murder mystery LOL!
PakalanaPikake, I'm excited that you started, too. It's so good and I'm sorry I missed the live watch with everyone. Thanks MM and WishfulToki for encouraging me last week to get a move on and start.

I also just watched Misaeng. My son was here for a family baby blessing (his sister's baby) and got vertigo on the plane and puked for 3 days, finally started getting better with acupuncture. (Thank you Dr. Choi.) He couldn't do much but sit, (as soon as he was able to sit) and so we watched Misaeng together. It was fun. (He's better, back on the other side of the country now. I'm glad he's better, but it was fun while he was here.)

Few hours ago I found video cut of Fantastic Duo where Lee Sunhee sing an OST of King and The Clown, Fate, duet with Kyuhyun. Wow, they sang it amazingly and gave me goosebumps. It's a very good song. Earlier, I read some beanies' comments that mention King and The Clown and say it's good. So, I became more interested to the movie. Unfortunately, after reading its plot I think it's not my cup of tea, so I won't watch it.

Speaking of Lee Sunhee, her song that I ever heard was only Sudden Rain (My Girlfriend is a Gumiho OST). It is one of the most memorable kdrama OSTs for me.

About Kyuhyun... This guy has been staying in special spot in my heart since 2011. I admit my love for him had cooled down a bit, but watching New Journey to the West S3 boost it back to the top. Now I'm craving to see him on variety shows and to listen to his sweet voice.
Ah... Despite how much I love him, honestly I found it awkward to watch him on drama. I had watched his web drama Bongsun; cyborg in love, and I felt almost nothing about it.

Bongsun... Is it a special name that given to extraordinary women in dramas? The 3 Bongsuns I know are not normal, one can see ghost, one is a cyborg, and the other one has super strength. Anyway I'm still (im)patiently waiting for the last Bongsun's drama to get subbed. Hope she's really funny.

Hi Everyone! ....... I hope you are all doing well today!

Watched this week:

Defendant - So I just started this and have watched only 2 episodes. ...... The first thing that popped into my mind as I was watching the whole thing was, "Wait. Ji Sung's character is going to also end up having a twin, right?" ...... Whether he does or doesn't, this is going to be one wild ride and I'm on board.

Night Light - For how much longer will Gun-woo be always, always, always unable to anticipate the magnitude of the counterattacks coming his way? I mean, by now he's seen how many moves and counter moves by the same 3 people?

Chief Kim - So much fun! ...... At this stage of the game, I'm still intrigued by the Seo Yul character. I'm still hoping that he's in there to do some good after all.

That's all for now. ....... Everyone take care and have a great Friday!

I cheated though by started from last week's episodes and they really were funny. I caught episode 9 late last night and had a few LOL moments. And I was really bummed when I realized episode 10 wasn't subbed yet! So I think I'll be watching it for now. Is it being extended? I thought I heard a rumor? But I'm not sure? Hope not though, I don't want it to drag.

Since I'm on episode 2, I honestly don't know. But if he does have one and they were, let's say, separated as newborns and no one told him, then you could say he doesn't know.

Part of the fun in Chief Kim is watching Namgoong Min's character, with his antics, go out of his way to not be a righteous person but having that goal thwarted. After all, he joined that company to steal money from them and not only has that not happened, he's now leading a restructuring of a division and he's endeared himself to his officemates.

Hey redfox-
I think Chief Kim's humor might even be something that grabs you according to your mood. I'm not even sure why I find it so funny but I do and it keeps getting more funny for me, too. But I don't think you should push yourself too hard on it.

0

I don´t really know why it is not funny for me either. I guess the jokes are either too familiar of office setting just kills the experience for me. like it was with Misaeng.

0

I can see how the humor could be too broad but it's just what I need right now and I love it. You know how dramas can be. There are some on most people's Top Tens that I don't get at all.

0

I think that Chief Kim presents a satire of our current society. It takes the rat race, office politics, social and class differences, corruption, thievery, and so on - to an extreme, thereby highlighting how ridiculous our society can be.

Things like the dreaded 'waiting room', the elevator specifically for executives, 'Mr. Righteous', the easy to spot money laundering - all of it is a bit extreme, but all of it exists in more subtle forms in real life. And in treating such things with disdain and humour, Chief Kim (the character and the show) is most definitely presenting a satire of everyday life.

I do think that working people are more likely to 'get' the humour, but thats a generalisation and not necessarily true of everyone.

I love the workplace drama because it feels relatable. Chief Kim is not a comedy show per se, maybe if someone else aside from Nam Goong Min playing Chief Kim, the character will not be endearing lime he is now. Chief Kim is trying to tell us the reality in workplace, in a more humourous way.

And yes, Junho is great. I had never seen him anything prior to this. He's made quite the impression!

0

@Sera The Miss Temper:

I'm with you on getting frustrated about Yul. He has moments when he's lovable, like when he was bossed around by the cleaning lady and yelled 'ahjumaaa!' about to cry (I was laughing so hard). He was clumsy and cute... and then he went right back to his jerk attitude. I need cleaning ahjumma to give him a good spanking.

If I forget his smile and perfect face I can objectively see that he's quickly sliding down the slippery slope of villainy, but somehow I can't hate him either, because I still have hope he will join Chief Kim (don't know how but there are still 10 episodes to go).

The day before yesterday I watched Canola with Kim Go Eun. It reminded me of my grandma and oh, how I would love to travel back in time! “Women are beautiful purely for existing. Every age bracket brings a new kind of beauty and it’s so clear with each group. It’s like cutting in to a rock and finding a diamond; the whole process of being born as a girl and growing into a woman is so beautiful.”

– Kim Go Eun

“There’s one thing I want from myself, and it’s to always be a person with a healthy mind and heart. It’s more difficult than I thought. Of course it would be great to be physically beautiful to many people’s eyes, but if I try and change myself to satisfy a set standard of beauty, I feel like I’ll exhaust myself. It’ll continue clashing with my own unique creativity. I believe everyone is beautiful in their own way.”

This one. I love this girl. Somehow reminds me of what Sushmita Sen said during Miss Universe 1994.

Question: What is the essence of being a woman?

"Just being a woman is God's gift that all of us must appreciate. The origin of a child is a mother, and is a woman. She shows a man what sharing, caring and loving is all about. That is the essence of a woman." ?

This has become my favourite quote until now.

I just watched the movie, Memories of the Sword, with my husband last night, also with Kim Go Eun. She's amazing in this as well. And it should have been no surprise how she nailed the Goblin death scene, crying like her heart was being ripped out of her, because she has 3 scenes in this film where that is all she does---kneels, bawls, and repeat.

The cinematography was so well done in this as well. Very epic, grand, artistic...my eyes couldn't get enough of it.

I loved her playing such a strong character-- an assassin. And she's gorgeous in this.

I have a special place in my heart for these epic, cinematic, historical dramas/movies: the first date I had with my husband was watching Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. This reminded me of that.

Nice! Good job posting it here hahaha. For some reason, I can picture this song as a Goblin ost, like the Grim Reaper's theme... haha. It fits imo.
I'm still sad Sungjae and/or Btob didn't get to sing Goblin's soundtrack.

Btob didn't hold #1 on charts for too long, but still, congratulations. Clap clap clap. For a pre-release announced just 48 hours prior, with no music video, no promotions, nothing, it's a miracle. Remember back when Btob had to check from the bottom of the charts for their song, and freaked out when WOW was #73 and were so happy about it? Or when It's Okay debuted at #1 and Btob first thought it was a recommended song, and then thought it was photoshopped? Btob has gone a looooong way. Or when Hyunsik worked so hard for years so that his song can be a title song, and now his songs are finally used by Cube and topping charts.

Anyhow... hahaha. I've got a lot inside me. Hopefully Sungjae can use his Goblin fame this time so that Btob's comeback willl be successful. Just a little more than one week till the comeback, I can't wait! I've been having this song on repeat for the past 24 hours, I can't escape... hahaha. I need their comeback song asap because right now, I can't help repeating this one. New ear-cleansing material please! haha.

RE: Melissa

Confession, the reason I fell into btob was completely superficial. I checked out the fansite pictures after Goblin withdrawal syndrome, and all the pretty got me. lmao. I didn't even know Deokhwa could sing tbh. lol. Some of the fav are http://yooksmile.net/xe/photo, also panorama on twitter or sungjaeontop or starry moment. But then I got to discover Deokhwa isn't as cool as his pictures, but more like 6_zalldow the handsome crazy and there was no escape. lmao. Now, I've gotten to kind of know all the members well (loveeed loved loved the beat series and the beat extra series on vlive) and I think I'm almost ready to call myself a Melody.

Welcome! I got into them around the same time (a bit earlier than that). Never regretted it. So much talent, but that's not enough to keep me. In real life, I fall for men who can keep a smile on my face just being them and make me laugh, and it's the same with fandom.

Are you me???? When I first checked out the song, I thought immediately of Wang Yeo. The lyrics fit his story with Sunny completely. Shame BTOB couldn't do an OST for Goblin, they definitely have the pipes for it, but I guess not the fame. Eh. At least I hope Sungjae's stint in Goblin will not be in vain. He lost so much weight during the filming months, those pounds better be worth it. LOL. Did you see his GQ interview? I wasn't even around pre-Goblin and I can tell how much weight he lost. Poor boy.

http://www.gqkorea.co.kr/2017/02/21/%EB%84%88%EB%AC%B4-%EC%9E%98-%EB%82%98%EA%B0%80%EB%8A%94-%EA%B1%B0-%EC%95%84%EB%8B%88%EC%95%BC-%EB%B9%84%ED%88%AC%EB%B9%84-%EC%9C%A1%EC%84%B1%EC%9E%AC/

Wow, what took me so long to notice (ok, so it's been only 25 hours since the song was released but I had heard it a bazillion times. lmao)

Sungjae had definitely lost weight. Would be a miracle, if he didn't, what's with his comeback in November overlapping with Goblin's filming, and then Japanese comeback in December, and concerts in January, and then Law of the Jungle filming (Just hearing the name alone gives me shiverssss lmao).
It will be my first time watching the show, but I can't wait!!! the trailer is just out. Deokhwa no longer looks like a rich chaebol, more like a sunburnt babo. lmao. Still hot.

If we look @ the number of music videos views of Btob compared to all the other successful groups' music videos, it's becomes a miracle that BtoB managed to rise up so much and even top charts. Korea loves them, but the world is sleeping on them. BtoB record remains unbroken (far margin to second place) as the idols having to wait the longest to win on a public music broadcast show: 1400-1500 days I think. No one hit song made them big, or huge agency power, just raw talent rising up and collecting fans slowly but surely.

OMGeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee My feels... T_____T

Just when I thought I got over the Wang Yeo story, yall have to remind me of it. soobs. How can the lyrics fit so perfectly????? It's as if it was written by Wang Yeo AND Kim woo bin himself. My heart breaks. T_____T I don't know much about Btob (Sungjae is practically jailbait, LDW for me) but I'll check them out now, after this. Damn them for making me cry.

I'm one of those peeps who am so in love with the Goblin soundtrack and think it's perfect as it is, but I'll admit, this song fits nicely like all of you say above. Maybe a tad too epic for the drama, but very nice. Like I can see an acoustic calmer version of it in the soundtrack for sure.

kkkkk. to be fair, that's like the lyrics for every love/breakup song ever so it's not so surprising that it fits. Although I wouldn't be surprised if Hyunsik was actually inspired to compose this song from watching Gobliln. In one of BtoB's Vlive, he was showing how obsessed he was with the drama and quoting it. kkkk. And he's one of the BToB members who were more supportive of Sungjae, posting online about Deokhwa and watching Goblin and stuff. Maybe he even composed the song so that it could be in the soundtrack but the song got rejected so it's now a pre-release for the comeback? kkkk.

Hyunsik is such a genius composer. He has composed some of my fav songs of BtoB. I love his ballads like I'll be here (good wedding song) or I Miss U or Killing Me, but I also like his more upbeat songs like Shake it and All Wolves but me (not sure if I'll be ur man counts as a ballad or not?). Ilhoon's compositions are more my style in general tho, like Drunk/Intoxicated.

lol what happened here... are we back at it again with the invasion? I thought Melodies were good at keeping a low-profile on Dramabeans since those crazy threads a few weeks ago. Haha.

If you like Hyunsik's compositions, someone made a playlist of all the songs he took part making

I have it saved here and added his newest song of course for your convenience :) :) :

I'm an ARMY-L and I accidentally found out about the song while I was streaming BTS songs (ultimate bias group) and Baekhyun's duet (my ultimate bias) on Melon. I clicked on the song out of curiosity when I saw it topping the chart for a few hours (and was a bit miffed it was beating us but now we're back above them :D ). I SHOULDN'T HAVE!!!!! I inadvertently had the repeat function on, and I have been listening to this on repeat since then. It took me about 3-4 listens to even realize I had it on repeat. I feel asleep on it. And then I had it playing from my headphones all day long in the bus, at work, and now at home. I can't even get to know Btob more and try their other songs, or stream my own songs, or even watch other videos and am behind all my dramas because I can't get away from listening to the song. I saved all my to-watch videos in a folder, and can only surf online on non-audio pages. CURSE. I think listening to it on headphones makes it more hypnotic. I only broke off from listening it to watch BTS on Mubank and then it was back to melon. CURSE CURSE. I feel like a traitor for not streaming for the team when I should. It's like I'm addicted to how it makes me feel when I listen to it. Swept off my feet so to speak. I'm still an ARMY-L though. I claim temporary insanity.

PWUAHAHAHAHAHA. Poor you. It's okay, I'm a fellow army, and I "forgive" you for straying. Mainly because I strayed too yesterday. trolololol.

You probably hit the problem on the head when you talked about the repeat function. I didn't stream it, but I downloaded it as a show of support to Melodies since BTS and BTOB are friends and all (I ship Sungjae with Taehyung bathroom buddies 95 liners lolol). Later, I played it and my media player has the autoreplay by default, so I ended up listening to it on repeat for hours when working. I think the problem with the song is that orchestra. "Swept off your feet" like you said. It feels like a song sang just for me, and I'm the protagonist in a epic feature romance movie, a princess in a tragic passionate love. trololol.

Anyhoiii, I'm making up for it by waking up at 6 in the morning right now to stream. lolol. I set my alarm up just for this purpose. I'll stream in your place too (just BTS, not Baekhyun sorry. Hee.) so you can stay in the romance movie a bit more if you want. MWUAHAHA.

The past few episodes have been wonderful aren't they? I guess they really poured 110% thinking that it would be the last episodes ever. I am so glad they are uncancelled, but I do think that they need new PD. I seriously hate it when they keep doing slo-mo before something happened. And the PD team also seemed really mean (pre-sauna episode), all the missions and punishments are quite hardcore for variety show, like you can make funny and entertaining shows without those, take Infinity Challenge for example.

Hello! First time posting on an open thread. Looking forward to the new Dramabeans logo and layout!

School is really stressfull and I haven't been able to watch as many dramas as I would hv liked to. I did manage to watch one however, and I even found a new Kdrama Crush in the form of Moon Geun Young, all thanks to Painter of the Wind. Not gonna spazz about that here, but she really deserved the Daesang. The drama would not have been the same without her.

BTW I had no idea Park Shin Yang was the male lead, and was even more surprised to see Moon Chae won and Bae Soo Bin (his killer visuals doe) in the drama. And the chemistry between MGY and MCW! GAHHH! How I wish the ending was different.

Also wishing MGY a speedy recovery. The poor girl seems to be so prone to accidents. How many times has it been already? Here's to hoping we can see her back in a new project as soon as possible!

Re: Criminal Minds and MCW. YES YES AND YES. Criminal Minds always gives me the creeps and I used to hate watching it. Guess I might have to change my mind if that means more MCW.

That's all for now. Hopefully next week won't be as bleak as this week was.

I've finally started watching Six Flying Dragons and Queen In-hyun's Man. Each of these shows I'm finding irrisistable and capable of keeping me up to the wee hours of the morning. Both are great to binge watch, especially while I wait for Strong Woman Do Bong-soon to become available with subtitles.

In other news, I'll be headed to Hawaii for my birthday in mid-March. While I'm excited at going out of town, it's hard to leave the critters behind in someone else's care. I hope they all behave!

Thank you! I went once before and did an advanced trail ride, which was sooooo fun! We were galloping through narrow ravines, climbing mountains and sliding back down them, what fun! My horse actually started slipping down the mountain on the way back to camp (thank you, pine needles...), but I just learned my weight back and gave my horse her head so she could correct herself without me being in her way. What a good little girl! I'm hoping to do that again as well as see Byodo-in again on Oahu. Last time, I brought the Florida weather with me: first hurricane Hawaii had on 22 years!

My thoughts on the basis of binge watching: nice watch for most of the run, even if I had to take a few breaks in the middle; political conspiracy can only hold my attention for so many episodes at a time. But I have reached the last ten episodes, and suddenly the crack factor is on :-) . I'm hoping to finish this weekend.

0

Okay, I ditched my glitchy phone and got onto a computer. Yay for being able to type and get things done in a timely fashion!

SFD is a riveting ride so far. I'm stuck on Queen In-hyun's Man for now; almost done. I have three more eps left of that show; then back to SFD as I wait for more currently-airing shows to get translated. The wait is tough (first world problems, I know)! Of late, I've been so thankful to be able to binge-watch so many shows. While I'm sad I didn't get to comment as it was airing and recapped, I'm still glad that I didn't have to endure the wait from week to week!

Required fields are marked *

Wow, that's quite a tour for 14 days! :-) But I can't really advise to leave any of those places out, haha. Perhaps in ranking order:

1. Madrid/Barcelona (because I suppose you must do both since you're here :-) )
2. Grenada
3. Seville
4. Toledo
5. Cordoba (no reason to rank it below Toledo; just there are 2 other Andalusian cities already on the list :-) )
6. Valencia
7. Ibiza
8. Segovia

/unsolicited advice :-p

0

@Delurker
No thank you! You've helped me a lot!! Would you recommend leaving out one or two places, and spending perhaps more days in the others? I'm going by sample itineraries and online recommendations but I'd like your opinion and/or recommendation =)

0

Well, I guess that depends on what you're interested in; but one day per city plus trips in between may be a bit hectic :-) . Are you thinking about museums, the usual landmarks, or just generally walking around?

The thing is that every city you have chosen has a lot to see :-) I placed Segovia and Ibiza at the bottom because Segovia has the aqueduct and the Alcazar, but not a whole lot more compared to the other places; Ibiza has lovely beaches and scenic villages, so perhaps you can sacrifice one of the big cities and make sure to spend a couple of days relaxing there.

Out of the big cities, Grenada is a must for the Alhambra alone; everyone should visit it at least once. Seville is beautiful too, and has lots of iconic monuments, but I suppose it's more big-city and less picturesque than Grenada. Toledo is steep, be warned :-) But also a beautiful place with lots of history.

Madrid and Barcelona, of course, could take you the whole 14 days if you wanted... when you're in Madrid, it might be a good idea to visit the Thyssen museum while you can; the owner is threatening to cancel her agreement with the Spanish state and take her paintings with her owing to some misunderstanding over taxes :-p

But you'll eventually discover that visiting Spain pretty much consists in "going places, eating stuff" :-p Be sure to sample the local cuisine everywhere ;-)

0

If you like architecture, I hear that the Alhambra in Grenada is great. I've only seen photos in a book and online. Also Gaudi architecture is amazing in Barcelona, from what I've seen in photos. Historical sites abound, I'm sure!

0

Yoo hoo, rentenmann!

Recently marathoned SIX FLYING DRAGONS and loved it to bits. Finished it up just before REBEL took off, and I'm glad I did. One of the best sageuks I've seen to date. Once I started watching, I didn't want to stop. Unlike so many Kdramas that falter and run out of gas, 6FD kept chugging away right to the end. Now I'll be able to watch TREE WITH DEEP ROOTS. I wanted to see them in chronological order. ;-)

What can I say about QUEEN IN-HYUN'S MAN, except that I re-watched it a couple of months ago. One of the best time-travel shows bar none, and the first Kdrama I saw with non-dead-fish kisses, LOL. Kim Boong-Do is one of my all-time favorite characters, and Ji Hyun-Woo did a terrific job bringing him to life.

Went completely bonkers over JHW, who was a rock musician for ten years before going into acting full time. What a great guitarist! Love his singing voice, too. Check out some of his recordings with his old band, The Nuts. "Love Fool" is one of my faves:

[MV] The Nuts - 사랑의 바보
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iw_Kb_5fWzg

YT has a live version of this with English lyrics, which is very nice, but JHW is not singing on it, although vocalist Park Joon Shik is very good. This is a cover of a Japanese song. Quite an earworm.

PS - Have a wonderful visit to Hawaii in March. If pakalana is in season, you might want to get a lei. Consider it wearable aromatherapy. It is heavenly. Small, delicate chartreuse blossoms about the size of jasmine (pikake) flowers, incredibly sweet. Or splurge on puakenikeni if you can find it. The color darkens from creamy white to deep golden over a couple of days; the blooms are long-lasting and sturdier than plumeria, with a wonderful fragrance that lingers for years after the lei dries out.

The striking teal blue flowers of jade vine are not fragrant, IIRC, but are uniquely shaped. Because of the invasive nature of the plant, it used to be banned from the Mainline lest it "go kudzu" all over the South. I don't know if it's still prohibited. Wear it while you're on vacation, along with a fragrant strand -- ivory tuberose or pikake would look and smell nice with it.

Have a wonderful birthday trip. ;-)

I remember looking him up while watching ATK and being really excited that he was a rocker. I'm noticing how much I like seeing him act, and QIHM really hit on that for me so far. What a cutie all around! Thank you for the advice on the Hawaiian flowers! On my trail ride, it was only the guide and myself. We stopped to pick guavas of different varieties, and I gave some to my horse as my own thanks for carrying me around for an hour and a half. I'm not sure what to do this time on Oahu; my husband will be working most of the time, so I'll be by myself.

I would love to have this story transfered by TVN to present times, this mastership of seduction, and I could even imagine the actors to be cast for it. Let's dream :-)

I thought I laugh easily but I am sorely missing my funny bone when it comes to Missing 9 I was totally in for the ride despite lots of logic gaps but never did I expect this height of ridiculousness. It's sad because this used to be something I looked forward to each week.

Voice too has lost its lustre. It's still very watchable but again the leaps of logic is getting wider and wider Doesn't help that I am not swept away by Mr Killer Cheekbones. He's got the prettiest jaw but that's it for now. I want the nail biting thrills and "at the edge of your seat" feeling to return.

Defendant is the one I anticipate the most now. I can't wait for Jung Woo to make Min Ho pay for his deeds.

I found Yoon Kyun Sang adorable in Six Flying Dragons but he's such a hottie in Rebel! Plus he looks so pretty when he's sleeping, how is that?

I am reading recaps for Introverted Boss because someone recommended jumping in the show at episode 6. I'm at recap ep 5 now. From what I've read, the story seems pretty fine and neither is Ro Woon that terrible. I'd thought it was the pits because I've read mostly harsh criticisms. I am eager to start soon because I like Park Hye Soo and Yeon Woo Jin.

And Strong Woman starts today? I need to find out more about wonder boy Park Hyung Sik, I keep reading great things about him.

About Introverted Boss, maybe reading recaps alone without watching helping you to find her character more tolerable. I didnt have the issue with the character, but I admit Park's portrayal made me cringe in the beginning. I love Park Hye Soo too, but she probably still too green to carry leading role yet. I can actually picture her if she is playing in high school drama or college student. But slowly the show is getting more fun to watch. I am enjoying it the most now. Since you already reading recap, maybe you will have no problem to watch from the beginning as you already know the plot.

Happy Friday, guys!

So, I marathoned another drama last week: Tree with deep roots. Going back some years, I know, but I'm glad I was able to marathon it whole because the political intrigue in the show was so gripping!

I've always been fascinated by the Korean lettering system and the history behind it, so I was glad to see such a solid depiction of it in dramatic form.

Totally fell in love with Han Suk-kyu - what a charismatic actor. I think I remained pumped through most its run, and was thoroughly hooked by eps 1-23, but then...ep24 happened, and all that energy kind of just sapped out in one blow. I wasn't left disappointed, but I wasn't wholly satisfied either. Having said that, I appreciated the show for what it was and was glad to have finally watched it. That's another one I can tick of the list!

I couldn't believe I was so focused all through out that considering how my attention span is close to that of a goldfish. I had the same reaction towards episode 24 when I first watched it but came to terms with it. It made sense after a while and I liked how bittersweet it was.

Yep, I think I'll reach that same conclusion too - but the initial shock after marathoning it over three days straight was pretty deep, so it will take time to sink in lol.

Anyway, this is what I'm watching!

Tomorrow With You: This is the type of show that I don't think I would binge watch, so I'm glad I'm watching while it's on air. It's a thoroughly pleasant show and I love reading the fan theories, but it's not exactly an addictive watch for me.

Shopping King Louis: I originally watched this while it was airing but stopped at episode 5. I told myself I would wait to finish this when SIG was in military, but I caved. I only have 2 episodes left and omggg I don't think I've ever squeed (is that a word? is it squee'd?) so much while watching a drama. It is just SO. CUTE. And Louis' character development is beautiful.

Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok-ju: Shameless rewatch. What do you mean it's only been a month since it finished? Why does that matter? Shhhhhh.

I don't want to pick up anything else.
I half wait for a special drama that can hook me with good assemble of actors, not the current airing dramas with the pain of waiting for each week for new eps, and half want to watch a happy youthful drama.
Reading your comment... I really that I have forgot Louis and Seo In guk... My gosh!!!!!!!!

Mon-Tues for me enlivened by Rebel and Introverted Boss. I can't praise Rebel enough. If you haven't watched it, then what are you waiting for? Introverted Boss is not for everyone but I look forward to it every week.

So glad Hwarang is done. What a waste of a great historical subject. I'd like the Rebel or the Six Flying Dragons team to produce a script about the Hwarang. There were a few things about this production I did like though because I didn't drop it. But how can they make something about Hwarang so incredibly slow.

I hate film about the falsely accused so haven't picked up Defendant. I think I have a leftover phobia from grade one when someone was stealing lunches out of the cloakroom and a police officer actually came in to speak to us. I had nightmares that he would think it was me for over a year. So the premise of Defendant doesn't appeal to me. I might be persuaded to watch if beanies continue to rave about it after it's finished its run.

Saimdang is hit or miss with me. The main character is a bit too stern and poker faced for my liking, and the villainess is a cliche. Power dynamics with the Joseon-style PTA. Also, I can't see how there can be a satisfying romance involved? She's married in both timelines, and the second reincarnation of Lee Geum is much younger than her and she seems to still love her husband anyway and has a kid. The most interesting parts to me are the modern era uncovering the mystery and Joseon papermaking.

I've given up Missing 9 and Voice. Missing 9 failed to sustain my interest, and Voice needs to relax once in a while to do some character development.

Rebel is SO GOOD, I'm almost afraid to say how good I think it is for fear that it'll end up jinxed by the live shoot. But then the most disappointing dramas of the last year have been pre-produced, so......

I love it but it leaves me with an insane number of questions every week (who's got Uhrini? What's the dead scholar's plan Gil-hyun was going to carry out? Is Ahmogae going to live? Is Ga-ryung really going to be a vengeful widow like her character description says, because right now she's obviously unmarried and looks pretty enamoured of Gil-dong to me)

Yeah, Saimdang could have been so much better. Why didn't they just follow her life? Certainly her life story would be intriguing, eh ?

Nope, can't have that. Insert terribly worn drama tropes, half bake plot for 5 minutes = a mess.

Haven't dropped it yet, but it is the weakest of shows I'm watching.

Barbrey, why do you think Introverted Boss is not for everyone? My mother is trying to convince me to watch it and I like comedy, but I was quite bored in the first episode and dropped it then.

I really liked the first episode, and the main female lead has never bothered me much, but lots of people hated her for being too brash. The show has lots of glitches, but for me it's funny and romantic and that's what I want from a rom com. It doesn't BORE me like so many kdramas can - most recently Goblin and Hwarang - with snail like pacing and/or dialogue.

Yeah I know, right? About the cop. I think they were into community policing and police are your friends or something but really have no idea why he was there. Scared the bejesus out of me.

Happy weekend, everyone!

I had a really long hiatus from following kdramas, and then Rebel came along and was every bit as good as I hoped it would be - I'm really rooting for it to maintain its quality throughout. It's been a long time since I felt this invested in a drama, and unlike the last one (MLSHR) my love isn't interrupted by bouts of wanting to tear out my own hair at mystifying story decisions or poor production values! (THANK GOODNESS Ahmogae is still alive, I was not looking forward to saying goodbye to Kim Sang-joong)

Also I'm really loving Yoon Kyun-sang as our titular hero - I still remember his breakout role in Pinocchio, and how he broke beanie hearts as Hyung. Also loving Honey Lee as dignified but still vulnerable Gong-hwa, in other circumstances I'd have loved to see Gong-hwa as the lead of her own drama - and Chae Soo-bin as noisy, smitten Ga-ryung. I really liked what Gil-dong said to her in ep 8 about why she was doing all the housework.

It's funny, because I love this drama right now, but watching any other drama feels like a chore so I'm not even trying. It almost feels like I'm getting burned out on kdramas in general, which is genuinely saddening because I love this place and don't want to miss out on everyone here :(

@pogo,

I thought I hadn't seen you around much, but then I've not been on Open Thread very often for about six months myself. I've been live-watching a bunch of shows continuously and commenting in the recaps, so maybe I'm courting burnout myself. Time will tell.

I'm glad to see you over at REBEL. This week I seriously went off the deep end with episode 7. I may be enjoying it a little too much. But what the heck. It's making up for a number of shows that turned out to be underwhelming.

A couple of days ago I realized that the vernal equinox is in about a month. I wonder if spring fever is setting in?

For what it's worth, I haven't been keeping up with NCIS, my last American TV show. Don't know whether it's because I'm missing Very Special Agent Anthony DiNozzo, or 14 seasons are finally catching up with me. Then again, I'm watching so many Kdramas live that there's barely enough time for them. When I'm in reflective Kdrama mode ruminating over Gil-dong's poetic musings and the lyrics of Korean folk songs while trying to grok blue mountains versus green rivers, I just want to stay in that place -- and hash it over with fellow Beanies.

I'll have to get back to my favorite silver fox, Leroy Jethro Gibbs, later. That's all there is to it. Dang. Am I two-timing him? ;-)

Hey, even if you drop by DB to follow the casting news and Beans O' Wisdom, you could keep your foot in the door and play it by ear. There are times and tides in life. This may be one of those times to hang loose and read a book or something.

Just be kind to yourself. It's okay to take a breather. Just know that your presence would be missed even as your taking care of yourself would be encouraged and applauded. Blessings. ;-)

@PakalanaPikake - I've even been lazy with catching up to Rebel recaps this week, but it warms my heart to see how active people are.

I actually like this slower pace of kdrama-watching, so far - just one show a week and recaps when I can, and of course keeping an eye on casting news (I'll be back in a flash if a future Yoon Doojoon/Kim Seul-gi or Jung Eun-ji/Ji-soo reunion actually materialises!). And it's good to see everyone here again when that happens!

Tomorrow with You and I are taking a little break from one another. I'm not calling it quits, just waiting to see what happens in the next few episodes before jumping back into it. I think the turnoff for me has been the "Uncontrollably Found" vibes I've been getting from this show, that everything is going to be really sad and melancholy and that the lead couple will become more distant and keep more secrets from one another as the show continues. And, even that fated death will be actual death at the end. I didn't sign up for that much melancholy.

Introverted Boss - still enjoying this one, although I have issues with how sympathetically Woo-il is being portrayed right now. Every time he looks at Ro-woon, I feel icky considering his past with her sister. It was interesting that the writer chose the mentally ill route for Yi-soo. It makes sense that she has tried her whole life to be the perfect daughter, sister, and future wife. That father really is toxic.

Defendant - another drama I'm stepping back from a little, simply because I'm not enjoying the extent that the villain is toying with and torturing our hero. I love Ji Sung and he's doing a great job here, but I have a limit to how much I can stand seeing his agony.

Missing 9 this may be the week I point back to as to when the show really started to go south. I do love Joon-oh and Bong-hee, but the Hardy Boys/Nancy Drew antics are way over the top. And what prosecutor would ever, ever work with these two in that manner, encouraging breaking and entering and the like?

I really want a nice, sweet Rom-Com, like yesterday.

Hi peanut gallery! Back for my 3rd installment in the Open Feed. And, I just found the Beans of Wisdom feed on DB— I even had a featured comment! Thank you DB staff!

I started watching Biscuit Teacher this past week--systematically going through all of Gong Yoo’s works for my own research (cough) and edification (cough, cough) and had this conversation with, who else? my husband, with cameos from my kids (whose names have been redacted to protect the innocent).

Some background information: my husband has been growing his hair out for the past 14 months. As such, my son also hasn’t had regular haircuts because that’s my husband’s job: to take him to the barber with him. Also, keep in mind that we are not Korean, but we are Asian…

Me: *While pushing a shopping cart through our local warehouse club store with my son on the opposite side standing on the cart* “Your hair is getting super long!” *brushes his hair across his forehead with my hand*

Daughter: “That looks great, mom! He looks like a Korean actor.”

Me: *Not really paying attention, still pushing the cart, too engrossed in my quest to find the ketchup isle* “Sure, your brother is a good-looking kid.”

Daughter: “No, mom, he looks like THAT Korean actor, the Goblin!”

SCREEEEECH to a halt, almost knocking my son into the cart itself.

Me: *scrutinizing my son’s face as I’ve not done since he was a day old, over 10 years ago…small frame—check, feathered hair style--check, narrow jaw line--check, high cheek bones--check, that deep, melt-my-heart-dimple on his right cheek--check-check, but he has broader nasal bridge, and 2 creases on his eyelid (not a monolid), and glasses.*

Me: Yelling down the next isle, “HUSBAND! COME LOOK AT YOUR SON!”

Husband: Running up to the cart, “What’s going on? What did he do? I got some granola bars.”

Me: “Tell me he doesn’t look like a certain Korean actor with this hairstyle.”

Husband: *His 6 ft 2 in frame glancing down at my son* “Oh, it looks better like that and yes, he has lots of desirable facial qualities that Koreans would want.” *Proceeds to list the qualities I noted above*

Me: *Meeting his gaze, mid-sentence*

Husband: “I’ll get his haircut tomorrow.”
Me: “Thank you.”

Daughter: “What???? Why are you cutting it???? He looks like Goblin!!!!”

Me: “No, your brother looks like your brother and doesn’t need to look like anyone else so, for the love of all your stuffed animals, you’re dropping this conversation, ok? There’s the ketchup!”

Moral of the story: If anyone needs a kid to play a young Gong Yoo, my son does NOT look like him with his short military cut, glasses, and flat nasal bridge. *Dodges a bullet*

2nd moral: Kids say the darndest things...

3rd moral: Never in my life have I been so happy my son has my nose and not his dad's.

Hello all. It's been raining cats and dogs everyday for the past week here and I don't know is it because I visited Seoul during rainy (snowy) days, but I found Kpop ballads to be perfect companion for this weather. The new favorite songs on repeat in my playlist:
- Seo In Guk's Flower, Bebe, OMG
- Rain's Best Present
- Eric Nam's Cave Me In

How beautiful is Seo In Guk's new song for TWY - his voice and the tune is so swoony. I got goosebumps listening it on rainy day and I haven't even watched the drama yet (saving it for marathon). Hopefully it won't disappoint me like Goblin does (I love the song Stay With Me very much).

And omo, Seo In Guk in his rapper-do ??? #byelouie

Haven't got any drama-crack at the moment but I got to watch 1% of Anything and it's quite pleasant. The OTP chemistry saves the drama and I appreciate the writer for not going too makjang. It's also refreshing to have a 30min episode and I like it that I can watch it before work, or anytime when I need a quick break.

Ha Suk Jin has never been on my radar before and it's a good time to be know him because he has worked so hard. I am currently watching Drinking Solo (not as addictive as Let's Eat and the student story is quite boring but HSJ is pretty to look at), downloading first 2 episodes of D-Day to give it a try (in case I drop DS), and patiently waiting for Radiant Office (new trailer is funny!).

Happy OT.

I've said this before...

Am I the only one who was SO DISAPPOINTED with Hwarang?!

Like seriously...I invested around 1400 minutes trying to understand the drama, but come episode 20 I felt like I've understood less, if nothing, from episode 1.
Simply: the ending just mademore qurstions than resolved plotlines.
Also, this drama should be renamed "War of Hormone" & the themesong BTS's same-titled song.

And: the drama's ending was already shown in the teaser trailer.
Like how Goblin did it in eps.1 & 16, but only Hwarang was earlier...

These are my questions:
-origin of Seonwu's rhomboid dice
-no fleshed-out explanation as to how Lord Anji's family fell. Also, how did Anji's servant-wife looked like...
-what happened to the characters that suddenly "disappeared" by episode 20:
-Suho after Lady Jiso's "death" (as actually Jiso was mentioned in 574 A.D. around 2 years before Jinheung's death and Bulguksa Temple was somehow involved), since he was absent at the final shot (but then again when was "1 of 1" released???); as well as Lord Anji (seriously, Anji & Jiso's last scene didn't even move me)
-Lord Ho-gong after Park Yeong-shil's "fall"
-Lord Wihwa...since the "assistant" was never identified (both name and actor). Assistant looks like he suceeded Wihwa but impossible to be Lord Ihwa since Wihwa didn't look like he had offspring (2nd pung'wolju is 1st's son). Might be Lord Mo-rang, another of King Beopheung's sons who became 3rd...
-Yeoul's father's true identity. His character is only registered as a "Kim", and one of the ministers may be his sire
-Commandant Hyeonchu (aka Jiso's guard dog aka Makmun's killer). Where did he go after shooting Aro at Nammo's shrine and did Seonwoo even avenge his friend.
-Kangsung the jerk as well as Park Yeong-shil's mercenary thugs
-the other hwarangs, as well as the leads' posse clique (my mistake, it was Jin Ju-hyeong who was in "Sirius")
-Did Sukmyeong as well as Jinheung married their respective partners (Sukmyeong her matrrnal brother, Jinheung Park Yeong-shil's daughter)
-honestly, I was SO DISAPPOINTED as to how they killed off Jiso. Like seriously...Park Yeongshil's stratagem was SOOOOOO "Curse of the Golden Flower"-#JusticeForSeokHanseong
-also, how had Danse upgraded to full-fledged hwarang.

Looks the drama's timeline from Jinheung's coronation to the last episode's time-skip didn't stretch to 3 years, as Buyeo Chang looks like he's still menacing Silla (King Seong died in 554 A.D.) as heir amd Crown Prince of Nambuyeo/Baekje.

Anyways, I will never trust any pre-produced drama unless written by KIM EUN-SOOK & KIM WON-SEOK.

Can't wait for "Strong Woman Do Bong-soon". The pseudo-gay hijinks await...especially enlivened when the two males cross-dressed, Hyungsik grabbing big baby Jisoo's butt while wearing such a uniform LOL.

I think the problem is not because the drama is pre-produced. The script is so weak and this even affects on the actors in their performance.

But I didn't regret watch the show. it was light and fun.

You are not the only one. I watched Hwarang until Episode 13.

The first few episodes I really did enjoy. It was adorable, light and not something to take seriously. So I kept watching until I noticed that it's not fun anymore. I went into it for the bromance. The production team is known for it. But after episode 10 or so, it became about the romance. And that's a no no for me.

I wanted to give Hwarang lots of love. But it was not to be.

Required fields are marked *

I give it lots of love while thanking Rovi for enumerating so many of its problems. I will always remember it fondly for

- LollyPip's recaps which stayed on the high road
- the hilarious comments which started on the high road and headed down a steep mountain pass around the halfway point until they ended just above sea level for the last two episodes (and that only because our brains were still several hundred feet behind us, we would have been underwater if we'd had our wits about us cuz it's a hot mess).
- the boys
- the boys performances
- the offscreen bromance we got to see on YT interviews, etc
- PSH
- PSJ
- PSH and PSJ being all fierce in the last two episodes
- the OST. Yeah, I like it.
- PSJ on the OST ❤❤❤
And, finally after referring once more to Rovi's list and supporting everything in it 100%, I give Hwarang lots of love for
- the boys.

This drama may have just taken my #1 spot for

I dropped Night light yesterday after watching two episodes. I'm not sure whether the drama is not good or I'm in mood of refreshing light drama. Suddenly I decided to watch You are my destiny. I know it is so old but I have not watched before and I miss the old kdrama back to 2005 when I watch my first kdrama.

Park Seo Joon will be paired with Kim Ji Won and Lee Jun Ki will be apired with Moon Chae Won. The first pairing already confirmed so now we can sit and wait for the drama to come out. I hope for the sake of these two, it will be great.

damn now there are two new dramas on my 'future watch' list..... can't believe my girl Kim Ji-won is getting her leading lady break at last!

I hope Lee Jun-ki and Moon Chae-won confirm too though sadly this isn't a sageuk and iirc Criminal Minds doesn't even have any romantic angles between the team. (but seriously, it's Lee Jun-ki and Moon Chae-won! Make one already!)

I actually wish LJK/MCW were the leads of Bride of the Water God instead.

"I actually wish LJK/MCW were the leads of Bride of the Water God instead."..

if only it is based on the manhwa with sageuk setting. But with the spin off remake and they make it to modern time, Criminal Minds probably much better for LJK-MCW.

I am happy for Ji Woonie too, although i feel bad because it means I cannot see Chun Woo Hee in kdrama any soon, but maybe better this way. CWH already establishing her status in chungmuro, and she will have no problem to do drama in the future I guess. The case is not similar with Ji Woonie, so I am glad she finally landed her first lead role.

Me too! both of them great actors and their last dramas had many gaps. Their pairs are good so let us hope for two great dramas.

Dear Dramabeans Staff,

I have this syndrom that is slightly different with the super popular Second Lead Syndrom (SLS). Right now I just simply call it Second Pairing Syndrom, or Minor Pairing Syndrom, since none has named this properly as far as I remember. I am

1. Jaejoong - Wang Jihye (Protect the Boss)
2. Park Haejin -

Sorry my post got posted accidently. So I need to repost this.

I have this syndrom that is slightly different with the super popular Second Lead Syndrom (SLS). Right now I just simply call it Second Pairing Syndrom, or Minor Pairing Syndrom, since none has named this properly as far as I remember. I am huge fan of happy ending. I love it when everyone in drama has proper and neat conclusion. And I would really love to see the Second Leads getting their ending on romance department, too. Just like the First Leads.

Why does it have to be second lead or minor character? In every drama, First Leads will always get conclusion, since the story is about them. But when they also do the same for the second lead, it feels the drama's world within is expanding. We can see on larger and wider scale. And somehow I always root for minority.

However there are conditions of this syndrom:
- Characters are at least Second Lead or lower rank
- The pairing must be Second Lead and Second Lead or lower rank. Pairing between Second Lead and First Lead which doesn't end up together is not counted. I can accept First and Minor (just like Yoon Shiyoon - Lee Youngah in Baker King).
- The characters involved must have their own development. Not just some characters in the background who fill the frame and the in-between.

My favorite pairing that I think can represent Second Pairing Syndrom are:
1. Jaejoong – Wang Jihye (Protect the Boss)
2. Park Haejin – Choi Yoonyoung (My Daughter Seoyoung).
3. Jowoon - Eugene (Baker King Kim Takgu)
4. Yoon Shiyoon - Lee Youngah (Baker King Kim Takgu)
5. Lee Dongwook - Yoo Inna (Goblin)
.... and many pairing from anime manga, especially Sasuke-Sakura (Naruto).

I wonder if Dramabeans can make your Favorite Second Pairing list or something. I will be extremely happy knowing what drama you guys think have great Second Pairing.

Hope you can consider it. Thank you.

I rewatched the whole drama JUST for them, by skipping to their scenes only ! lol

Giiiiiirl, I feel you! I was obsessed with Jaejoong-Wang Jihye in "Protect the Boss," to the point that towards the end I only watched scenes that had at least one of them. I was impressed that Wang Jihye got me loving her spoiled but sweet character considering I swore to never forget her as Inhee in "Personal Taste."

And yes, second pairing/minor pairing syndrome is a big thing for me to. Banryu-Sooyeon in "Hwarang" got me a little more excited than the main OTP, Reaper-Sunny in "Goblin" were my #1 reason to watch Goblin, and in weekend dramas, I usually watch for the secondary couple (like Taeyang-Hyowon in "Wolgyesu Tailors" and Sangmin-Yeontae in "Five Children). And I was really sad that they wrote off the Namsoon-Hakyung couple in "School 2013," which I guess became a minor ship? LOL.

And oh, I was really rooting for Yookyung to end up with her destined man in "Mirae's choice," and they were supposed to be the secondary couple, but that whole drama was just messed up. Grr!

(SasuSaku fans represent! Though I don't consider that the second pairing since they're still the most prominent ship in Naruto! LOL)

I was a huge Jaejoong fan back then and I swore I'd hate the girl he'd be paired with (and she was that girl from Personal Taste!!) but I ended up loving her. I still clearly remember her "I'm the Best" performance. lol

Same girl, same. I was like: "No, I don't want anyone touching my man," but wow, I shipped the heck out of them. I would've loved a show with them as the main couple!

I hate Mirae's choice. It's okay to say I'm childish. I really hate how selfish future Mirae is and how numb present Mirae is. All they care about is their own happiness and they aren't sorry to destroy possible destined relationship (and possible nice second ship). If they do it unknowingly, I may forgive them. But both Mirae are completely aware of that since day one and it makes me angry.

Poor Yookyung. She is the actual victim of this messed up drama. Alternative world theory is just stupid.

(yay SasuSaku fan! I love how I can easily find you guys almost everywhere!! Haha. Anyway Naruto is the only main lead for me. Sasuke is like a co-star ... although he provides plot device more lol. Sakura doesn't have much screen. So, I group SasuSaku as second pairing albeit it is the pairing that even Kishimoto ships really dearly.)

My favorite Second Pairing Syndrome or Side Pairing Syndrome

1) Kim Bum -Kim So Eun in Boys Before Flower
2) Jin Gu-Kim Ji Won in DOTS
3) Dong Wook - Yoo Inna in Goblin

There are some more more but I cannot remember it now.

Hiii! ^^

It's been so long since I was here, that I'd actually forgotten the website name *huge gasp* I know, it's inexcusable...

rl has kept me really busy lately, with exam period and lots of other stuff and now I've begun taking singing lessons - every friday, right about the time this thread usually opens lol!
Since kdramas tend to swallow me whole (don't you dare pretend you don't know what I'm talking about! ;)) I've switched over to variety and movies for the time being, otherwise I'd never get anything done kkkk..

Law of the Jungle: Gong Myung was in one of the recent trips (and he cried again lol, he's such a sensitive person and seems like such a sweetheart!) and Jonghun from FT Island is going to be in the next one, so I tried it out. Kind of growing fond of it. Only tried watching a few trips before and it didn't capture me completely, but it's really growing on me! Byung Man and the crew are real heroes! He freaking caught a BIRD with his BARE HANDS from UNDER WATER!!!! Like... HOW????

1N2D S1: Kind of meh for me and I'm making verrrrry slow progress. Thanks to other programs I'm starting to like Ho Dong more though!

New Journey to the West S3: IN LOVE! Thankfully two of my faves, Mino and Kyuhyun, are doing every bit as well as I hoped, and then some. Everyone has such great chemistry and the Hyun-bromance cracks me up :P That chicken game in the last ep was absolutely brilliant, I so want to play that with my friends haha!

Flower Crew: Seems to be "stealing" too much from 1N2D. They really need to find their footing soon, but it's all about the crew, not the cast. Sung Jae is unexpectedly great (can't believe it's the same guy from "Attack the Gas Station"!) and they all pull their weight. For some reason they seem to not show Seungyoon's reactions on camera much, even though they're very Taehyun-esque and mostly seem to not feature him as much as the others, even when he actually makes a funny joke or such. And PLEASE, stop not talking about people randomly having to leave the shoot! It's so weird. Do they really think people want notice? They need new editors...

Finally saw The Servant, the movie with Kim Juhyeok that they keep teasing him about on 1N2D... Don't watch it. It's pretty, but kind of porn-y, in a sometimes rapey way. On the plusside, I know finally get why they teased him so much about it LOL, it's incredibly cheesy! (and weird....)

1N2D S3: Donggu-ya.... Why can't you learn that winning isn't the main point of variety? Even tried rewatching some of his first eps and he hasn't improved much. Still don't see why people think they bullied him at first, if anything he's being arrogant and rude towards his variety sunbaes/hyungs, as if the newb knows better than all the people who brought the show back from the brink of death lol. And the pingpong thing just seemed to be his ego being bruised haha :P

Anyway, annyeong!...

I love Dongu-ya so much. I have this feeling that I need to make sure he is doing well in life and career. He was placed into enormous pressure to be nice and good and polite to everyone a la Kim Tak Gu.

I do concur with. your observations, he doesn't need to win everything. He needs to know that variety is about being spontaneous and witty. He is still not there. But he is trying. There are times he does trick the other members. So I'll give him that.

On the other hand, all the other members are tricksters already. We don't need another laid back person like that. So, him being competitive and uptight makes him different from the other members. So that is also welcome in this variety show.

I've come to like him and I do think he's very concerned about how other perceive him, which is part of what goes wrong variety-wise.

I just found it somewhat annoying that he said he joined as a "personal challenge". The thing is, this is a show the entire nation loves and that is very dear to the cast and crew as well. His only other variety show did really poorly, yet he seems 100% confident he'll do well and doesn't think about what will happen if he turns out not to be good at it, you know?

It's a job and many people's jobs rely on the cast members' chemistry and skills. And he just has zero variety sense. I agree that he has become a bit better and that he's trying, the problem just is that he's, well... trying. So it just comes off akward instead of funny. I do really like him, I just don't think he's fit for variety. Maybe if he tried guesting on more shows before he decided to be a regular cast member on one of the biggest shows, it'd have been better, both for him and for 1N2D?

I also agree that it can be interesting to have a different kind of character on the show. And there are definitely celebs who do that kind of competitive character extremely well, like Minho from Shinee, for instance. The difference just is that guys like that understand how to exaggerate their facial expressions, point fingers at others for cheating in an enflamed way and yell and grouch if they lose - which makes it hilarious to watch. Donggu doesn't really seem to understand yet that variety is all about being yourself, but in an often exaggerated version.

I actually found myself wishing, when the Hwarang guys visited, that Park Seo Joon had been the one join instead. I've never felt that about the other cast members, not even when Defconn was so ambitious at first.

I just hope he'll get there someday soon, or realize that maybe this isn't his kind of scene, and focus on acting. Or do some singing on the side, he's actually got some talent for that! :D

I don't want to admit it, but I felt that there was some truth to the time Tae Hyun called Park Seo Joon's agency CEO to tell him that PSJ is perfect for the show. It was such a fun episode. I did want to see more of him and the other two guest. But as a result, Dongu-ya didn't have much screen time there.

Still, I want him to continue to be competitive. I want him to do his darndest no matter what. The one thing I would recommend is for him to have fun and enjoy the moment. I think that's what is missing from him. As you mentioned, since he likes to win it can come out as arrogant on TV. He is forgetting to be that character in Cars he inspired to become. The good thing is Dongu-ya will overcome that, just like that character on Cars. Dongu-ya is on this journey to find himself.

Lol yeah, that moment felt way too sincere! I felt bad for Donggu, but entertainment-wise it was kind of brilliant. And it was understandable that the guys were so excited, it was like an image of what could have been.

It's not as much his competitiveness that can make him seem arrogant, at least to me, I think it's more that he didn't acknowledge that he doesn't really know anything about variety yet. The huyngs seemed really stunned, in a bad way, by the lack of respect for their seniority and experience that his comments indicated.

The moment when JJY came back and Donggu rushed over to him overjoyed, was really great though, DG can definitely be adorable at times. I just wish his journey to find himself would be a little quicker or take place elsewhere kkkk. 1N2D is one of the few variety shows I always enjoy and will keep rewatching, so I just want it to be the best it can be, I guess ^^

I do wish him all happiness and inner peace and success in the world, but everything isn't right for everyone and his succss and happiness might lie elsewhere :) Variety sense isn't just learned, it's a sort of natural instinct that can be honed. Which may sound weird, but there are examples of celebs who just never learn it and then there are those newbs who get it pretty quickly.

anyone watching new journey to the west..

it is so so so darn hilarious..
was surprised how easily Mr. Ahn got acquainted with the cast on such a short trip.. even these guys have known each other for 10 years and 5 years of bimonthly trips to be this close..

and then the newcomers.. minho and KH..oh dear.. so so so effortlessly funny..

and minho is so "beautiful"

PS: this whole lovey dovey hubby act is super adorable.. how can someone like someone else so much in a short amount of time... for him it was love at first sight (literally).. and he wanted to get married in 2 mnths..

coming from a guy who is a model, drop dead gorgeous, great personality, with no tragic history like a drama hero.. basically sorted and who must have been center of attention always.. for him to be so humble and sweet and so in love is just amazing

They really are effortlessly funny! After seeing them both in shows before, I already knew they could be that great in variety, but I was kind of worried about them fitting in with a cast that knows each other so well already - guess I didn't have to worry! ^^

It's funny, because I really didn't expect to like AJH, but he's such a sweetie! And surprisingly sly haha :b

truly sly.. so sharp and intelligent with the mind games..

true competition to jiwon (rather surpasses him .. the way he had all of them almost convinced on the magazine.. and the way he hid that huge fruit..i mean how do you do that :P )

What are the other funny variety shows you can recommend?

0

The magazine thing was awesome! It was kind of laid out for him, but he was a better actor than I'd thought and really nailed it!

Didn't AJH have a persimmon? It was Kyuhyun who had the dorian (huge spikey fruit) and Mino had the melon, which didn't survive haha.

Hmmm... Let's see.. You probably already know most or all of these, but these are the ones I could think of:

"Exciting India" (or "Fluttering India") with Kyuhyun and his various idol-friends on a trip to (you guessed it!) India was really funny and cute. Loved it.

"Mari and Me" with Hodong and SIG among others. Can be cute at times, but some animals don't seem to have been given the exact proper care by their (probably well-meaning) owners. SIG babysitting two raccoons was so funny though (that's the first eps) :b

Haven't seen the "Youth over Flowers" series yet, but it's by Na PD (1N2D S1) and supposedly really funny.

If you like singing shows there's "I Can See Your Voice" which is really funny depending on the guest. 2PM's ep was hilarious!
"WIN: Who is Next" was unexpectedly interesting for a survival show, but more importantly, "Winner TV" which followed was incredibly hilarious! I had never heard of Winner (Mino's group) when I started watching these, but they quickly won me over, they're a lot of fun and have really good variety sense! :)

And for a really old one... "Idol Maknae Rebellion". I knew practically nothing about Kpop or any of the members here before watching, but I unashamedly (and embarrassingly) loved this haha :)

I don't really watch "We Got Married", but JJY's couple on there was kind of fun (also liked Jeong Jinwoon's couple and the current with Gong Myung and Hye Sung (princess from MDBC)). Some of the "Mamma Mia" eps (Kyuhyun's the host for some of it along with Yeongja (and SIG is a guest sometimes)) and most of the old "Happy Together" ones are also fun.

0

watch season 2 of new journey to the west.. and you will get the fruit part..

he practically got a HUGE fruit.. and jiwon was observing everyone coming into the room..

its truly brilliant the way he managed it

PS: confession.. i have absolutely loved s3.. but after watching s1... i cant beieve how awesome that group is..

I don't think he's intentionally being rude at all, I just think his optimism and overconfidence can come off that way. He should have been in "learn while trying to get some screentime"-mode, but instead he was telling the hyungs not to make things "seem so hard" lol. I guess I was just trying to put it into perspective, as I've seen a LOT of comments elsewhere, about the cast bullying him, which I thought was a really odd interpretation.

I didn't say he's an egoist, just that his ego got a bit bruised. We've all got som ego, ie pride and confidence, in one area or another, and his comes up when he gets all competitive and thinks he can overcome any challenge. And so when he can't win in pingpong, rather than seeing him as sad or upset, it seems to me that his pride is just a bit hurt haha :) Happens to all of us sometimes!

And he really isn't that sporty kkkk, he was such a black hole when did the foot-volley thing in one ep. It was one of the few times he got a bit more interesting lol ^^

Agree on needing an edit button!

S1 vs S3: I've seen all of 3, but just having such a hard time liking 1. It's rather dull to me at times, maybe because I'm just not very sentimental and that season seems more about tugging at heartstrings. I get a kick out of seeing people outwit each other on TV lol, so S3 is perfect for me with all the yapsi-ness ;) I do love Sugeun though, but mostly because I love him on Knowing Brothers where he and Heechul all but carry the entire show..

and its not even for cameras.. he can't be rude otherwise too.. he seems quite humble..

I didn't have any problems with his intro episode

but despite all.. he is boring..

(although when i try bisect each member's contribution..

CTH is to get big stars on the show.. other than that as an individual he brings nothing to the table, defcon again not really fond of him, Jong min ca be funny at times but too dumb for my liking, JJY atleast gets the sly character right, and kim junho single handedly gets the comedy going..

BUT despite that.. all of them seem to click as a group and are just so great to watch..)

0

i tried to get into knowing brother and secretly greatly..

but can't seem to see why people find knowing brother so insanely funny..

why is sangmin even there.. and the specs guy .. gues shis comedy isn't my type..

the cute specs guy.. is well just cute.. but really cute :P

heard/saw heechul for the first time- and the first thing i did was check his age.. that skin at 33.. how do people manage that

0

He does seem really genuine and like a nice guy, unfortunately that's just not enough to be interesting on TV.

I've thought about members' contribution as well and I think what it boils down to is that they all have presence. I honestly couldn't imagine it without any of them and of one of them isn't there I always feel like something's missing. They're also not afraid of making fools of themselves and devote themselves completely to the show.

CTH - his laugh and reactions + sometimes he actually makes really funnny jokes. He also grounds the show as the mature father-figure and they've said themselves that he's like their leader off-cam.

Defconn - strength, mukbang style (good at the eating show thing) + he's often good at dealing with citizens and guests

Jongmin - his level of ignorance is sometimes so astounding and shows up in the most unexpected places which can be really funny, even if it sometimes gets old. He's also so childish and naïve while still being street-smart, which really works well and makes him rather endearing.

JJY - the much needed cleverness and 4D-ness. Seriously, without him it felt SO empty. They were all just too... normal haha :b

Junho - don't think he singlehandedly gets the comedy going, but without him it just wouldn't be as funny. He really cracks me up all the time :D

0

I don't like pranks, so couldn't get into Secretly Greatly (for a minute there I thought you were talking about the movie haha).

Sangmin's role becomes much more defined if you watch it all. And I wouldn't want to be without him in the show. But Young-Chul... Currently watching him on LOTJ and he's not much fun there either, although he sure does try. Can't understand why he gets cast...
Min Kyunghoon (cute specs guy) actually does some really funny jokes and gags the further the show gets!

And yes, Heechul's skin is... blinding lol. But idols spend a huge amount of time on things like skincare and Koreans seem really obsessed with having good skin. But generally he just does not look that "old"! I still don't believe it. Not until I see a birth certificate :P

I'm really on the fence about Janghoon (the tall one). He's on Flower Crew too and I just can't seem to figure out how much he adds or doesn't to either show.

Some eps weren't that interesting, as they're a guest-based show, it often depends on who those guests are. But of course it also depends on your style of humor. I love that it's more loose and less child-proof kkk.
Did you watch the ep where Junho visited?

This week, I swear. Employee we just finished training left to go to another library but gave 2 weeks' notice - sent us email on Tuesday that she wasn't coming back even though she said she'd be here til the end of the month. Hello to my unplanned multiple day-long shifts. GRR.

So, very little TV-watching this week.

Hwarang: Ok, I'm just pissed off about this whole thing. How many episodes of ridiculous crying did we suffer through, only to have them drop whole plot threads? Who was Yeol's father??? Dammit.

Introvert Boss: I like the changes they've made so far, though I'm not sure I'm down w/the softening of Woo-il's character flaws (I like that they're making him more complex, but I'd like to see more pointed commentary on his womanizing.) Once again, I love Yeon Woo-Jin's acting - he's got such an expressive style.

I also love that you see the effects of that abusive household differently in the three different kids who grew up in it.

And I'm really disliking Se-Jong - what a jerk! Ro-woon has made it abundantly clear that she is NOT interested, yet he persists in treating her like his property. Time for that young man to get what my Granny called a 'come to jesus meeting'.

I've also picked up Chief Kim, because Namgoong Min looked hilarious, and yes, he is. I especially love that he is so morally grey - he's clearly kind-hearted and takes offense at working people being taken advantage of, but he has no qualms whatsoever about stealing as much as he can.

I love that the women are presented as strong, competent, and resourceful - ALL of them, from the secretary who lands on her feet to the accountant, to the CEO, to the evil director.

I think we're being nudged toward thinking that the young evil director is undercover to expose TQ from the inside, but I'd prefer to see him just as a cynical jerk who decided to give in. Guess we'll see. Also, that actor is quite pretty.

And in American TV, I'm just watching Legion, which gets better and better with every new episode, OMG.

***
In library news, I bought the Rocktigers CD, and today I'm ordering "Tattoo" and maybe "Mourning Grave".

We did a 'love story' Valentine's display & The King: 2 Hearts and Scarlet Heart were quickly snapped up by patrons who normally wouldn't take out foreign films, so that makes me happy. :)

I know! And not any sort of apology at all. So aggravating! I've worked three ten-hour shifts this week because somebody has to cover for her, and I don't feel it's fair to the employees to make them do it.

glad to hear you’re watching Chief Kim.

I'm enjoying it so much! Villains to loathe, lots to laugh at, and a plot simple enough that I can follow it (mostly) without subtitles (because I am impatient & always jump in before it's finished, as though I'm not still a newbie beginner.)

Too bad about the employee. That is not polite form!

On Sensitive Boss are we sure Woo il is a womanizer? I mean yes he is a cheater no doubt and snake. But liking 3 women in 5 years doesn't seem like "womanizing". Granted my idea of womanizer was mainly shaped by Barney on HIMYM so....

On Sensitive Boss are we sure Woo il is a womanizer?

I'm assuming based on some of the language he's used to refer to the women - and the fact that he's very handsy with his female employees.

It could be that I'm misinterpreting, but boy, he sure seems like he's got an eye for anything female.

Jeez, the last two jobs I had I gave my two weeks notice in writing. But I offered to stay longer until they could find replacements. Both accepted; the first one kept me for six final weeks and the second (my last job) kept me for seven. I can't understand flaking out like that to an employer! So much for reference calls, am I right?

I just saw Legion last night! OMG, Dan Stevens is such a great actor. He made me totally forget he was Matthew and it looks like he lost a ton of weight. I would have watched every episode that has aired so far, but I'm married to an old man who wanted to go to sleep after the first episode and threatened to take away my Kdrama-watching rights if I watched it without him!

And you know it's good when your psychiatrist husband's only critique of the show was, "You don't give psych meds in the neck---or maybe they did back then."

Thank you so much for the recommendation!

And you know it’s good when your psychiatrist husband’s only critique of the show was, “You don’t give psych meds in the neck—or maybe they did back then.”

My parents used to employ a schizophrenic man; he had a lot of the same tics that the character displays.

I would have watched every episode that has aired so far, but I’m married to an old man who wanted to go to sleep after the first episode

:snort: Yeah, my husband has also been very emphatic about observing the 'no-watching-without-me' rule on this show.

I love that the viewer isn't necessarily convinced that this is real, or that if the superpowers are real, that they aren't in addition to his mental illness.

Even more good news, Eun Ji song for the Strong Woman Do Bong-soon OST charting well in major music charts such as Naver Music and Melon. No. 38th as of now in Naver Music is nothing to sniff at consider the fact that in that chart only OSTs from Strong Woman Do Bong-soon and Goblin make the cut to be on Top 50.

Hopefully Eun Ji song will reflect the popularity of Strong Woman Do-Bong-soon in Korea.

I have yet to finish "Hwarang," even though my friends are gushing about the ending in our group chat. To think I was the one who got them into it! But hey, their faves got the endings they were hoping for, while my adorkable puppy Hansung died.

Yep, still not over it. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

So I guess I'm gonna stay with my new obsession BTS for awhile and finish that drama whenever I feel up to it. (Which might be never, IDEK. There are several new dramas I want to watch after all.)

Q: human zero game that they play on N2D.. i don't get it why they lose..

Isn't it simple..

you keep sitting as long as any number is being called out.. and stand up only on zero..

that way you are bound to win..and easier to control movement..

instead of everyone deciding whether to jump or not on every number

0
4
reply

Required fields are marked *

You have to stand up while the number is being said, not after. So if you only stand up after you've heard "zero", it'd be cheating :)

0

Required fields are marked *

exactly my point.. they have to stand up only when zero is called out and not bother with any other number..

but they always stand up on other numbers.. e.g on 2 or 3.. and try to have people standing not match that number.. whereas the easiest thing to do is not get up..

1=dont get up
2=dont
3=dont
0=do

it has to be the simplest game

0

Required fields are marked *

But they don't know if it'll be zero or not until they're actually standing and then it's too late?

Other than that, I think the answer may lie in the fact that it's a variety show. If they always just sat down, then it wouldn't be very exciting and they'd never get anywhere haha ^^

Hello, all:
My drama crack: Still Loving You. Aargh! Bitna! I so want you to suffer. So happy i know it'll all turn out well for our OTP. But still. This seems to be the ultimate depiction of the Korean proverb we always hear in kdrama: "The world is small, treat everyone good because you never now." The story feels like a parable with its touch of fate (more so than the typical kdrama where everyone's family is entangled with everyone else)
My drama giggles: Chief Kim. I can no longer give bad guy former prosecutor the benefit of the doubt. He has seriously gone over to the bad side and there's no hint he's going to be good anytime soon. I kinda wish this drama knew how to give equal time to all its characters. The female villainess never really shows up and the good prosecutor is also equally absent. I think the drama --which is really good anyway-- would be way better if all six of our main characters had been more fleshed out.
My drama joy: Rebel. Oh my gosh, this drama makes me so happy. Loving our rebel and the actor who plays him.
My drama crack but avoiding because i can't deal with the stress: Tomorrow With You. This is such a lovely intimate story. It touches me more than many other love stories. The main characters are so human and fleshed out, Bap Soon is so delicate, and our hero is so the kind of rich open-minded handsome sweet soul one would want (except for the time travel thing and his totally inability to focus on the present)
My drama WTF: Innocent Defendant. I find myself laughing at the weirdness in this show, the primary weirdness being that villain actually put himself in prison in the first place.
My drama meh: Voice. I keep forgetting what's going on. I watch because it's something to watch on Sundays.
Awaiting all the new shows esp, Perfect Wife and our Time Cop Jin Hyuk.
Have a wonderful weekend, all.

Welcome to OT! ^^

I sometimes thought the same thing with all these great comments that come up in OT, but it's actually rather nice that no one worries about getting likes. It's so easy to land in the "oh no, why did no one like my comment"-ditch, but here you never end up there. Sometimes though we just write "+1000" or something of the sort, as a reply to posts we agree with :)

It's also really fun to join in some discussions by giving your own opinion on someone else's post. In a way no like-button furthers discussion, because you have to take a second to think of something to say, rather than just clicking a button (:

Hope you have fun and keep coming here (warning: it's quite addictive!) ^^

I finished Uncontrollably Fond this week. Still dont really know what made me watch it, i guess I'm bored of waiting for While You Were Sleeping and i also got curious about Suzy's acting. I liked how they wrapped it up at the end but i found the second half didn't really go places i was most interested in with the plot. I liked the soundtrack a lot though.

I just belatedly realized Kim Jae Wook is on Voice, so I'm going to try watching that. I'm also hoping to get to the theatre this week to see Hyun Bin's buddy cop movie.

Happy Friday everyone!

So I just finished Jealousy Incarnate and something has been bothering me.

So one of the big plot points of the show is that Hwa-Shin gets breast cancer, and afraid he will lose his job, Na-Ri covers for him. In one of the later episodes rumors float around that Na-Ri has breast cancer and she is told she wont become a full time employee because of this.

My question is, is this a drama plot point or would that actually happen in real life in Korea? America has Americans with Disabilities Act which protects people with disabilities as long as they can perform their jobs. This is a law that has been around for over 50 years. Na-Ri having breast cancer (though fake) has obviously not affected her job performance so why would she not be able to become a full-time employee? Same with Hwa-shin having breast cancer.

0

Required fields are marked *

The Americans with Disability Act is from Bush (41) so late 80s early 90s, not 50 years ago...please or I'm older than I think. ha!

I have no idea if Korea has something like that. I notice in Korea being a "contract" worker is different than an official company employee (like in Misaeng) so maybe that would come into play.

I took it as they don't want her to be a face if there's a chance she will die. The show mentions at one point that any pre-existing condition can cause unemployment. Which I find incredibly ridiculous because people can die of unnatural causes at any age.

But I hinkle he show was trying out give the audience insight into how anchors are chosen. How long the process is.

that apparently is a thing in Korea! I was shocked too when my friend from Korea told me about it. It's a major problem when there are highway accidents and an ambulance can't get down the road with injured patients. Apparently they sometimes get on a loudspeaker and basically beg the cars blocking the road to move.

Oh! What a perfect place to share this.
I love reading but haven't had a lot of time for it recently and/or haven't FELT like reading anything for a while, but I finally got round to reading a book I have had out for several weeks now yesterday.
It was "The Hen Who Dreamed She Could Fly" by Hwang Sun-Mi. And it was BEAUTIFUL. Not very long, probably took me less than two hours to read, not very complex either, but very beautiful and bittersweet, and poetically sad, and it was accompanied by these gorgeous simplistic illustrations and I just adored it. Would buy and would highly recommend.

I LOVE to read. If I'm away from the house, I'll bring a book with me and not look at my phone. If I'm home, I try my best to be with my animals, then chores, then read and write a bit, THEN watch dramas. I stray often to being a couch potato, but reading is a favorite pasttime for me. I'm also trying to stay focused on learning Korean, but I would like to take classes to force me into committing to learn. Doing it on my own schedule highlights my procrastinator side!

I can now read everything (aside from some words that are tough to pronounciate) and I'm working on vocab and grammar. I'm a HUGE procrastinator in everything I do in life so I would like to take classes as well.

I read a lot of books. Just finished "The Stars are Legion" by Kameron Hurley (awesome!), "Six Wakes" by Mur Lafferty (also great!), and I'm currently working on "A Conjuring of Light" by V. E. Schwab (awesome & there will be tears).

I learned a long time ago that in a life where I have to work, take care of kids, clean house, cook food, and have hobbies, I could really only do four of five. We have to have money, we want to eat, and I need to make sure the kids stay alive, so...dirty hovel it is!

Reading "Cutting for Stone" about a twin doctors from Addis Ababa. It's taking me FOREVER though. I do it so I don't feel so bad about watching kdramas, and I do like to read. I don't have any good advice on how to do both. I have a more-than-full-time job, two kids, and and husband to take care of too. SO, reading went on the back-burner about 20 years ago. I read about one book a year now.

mostly cause of work and the different themes of my workshops, but I take around 15 books a week from library, go through them and maybe read 3 more thoroughly. that´s my limit. when I have more time, I usually go to the main library and go through up to 800 pages a day if I am doing research. like, for the refugee role playing game I read around 12 000 pages last year of life stories and whatnot

0
reply

Required fields are marked *

I work at a library, so yes, you could say I love books haha. I LOVE, LOVE to read. However, I'm super picky and fussy so I find it hard to find a book I really, honestly enjoy. But I'm always buying books and asking for books for Christmas and my birthday, so the obsession is still strong. As for balancing the two, well, for me it's just being intent about sitting down and reading. If I sit down and read, I'll most likely read for several hours if not the afternoon. Also as I said above, I find it hard to really enjoy a book, whilst I find it easier to find a drama to enjoy. I'm not sure why.
I'm also a writer so I analyse the writing of both dramas and books, but I guess if something goes wrong writing wise of a book, there is no good director or actor to perhaps pick up the pieces. You know? A book that is written badly remains that. There is not much one can do about it haha.
My reading list is also as long if not longer than my to watch drama list, and I have a terrible habit of buying or getting out books and then not reading them for an awfully long time. I think I procrastinate. Which is stupid cos I love reading haha.

I know this is days late so you might not see it -- but, yeah, I used to read a lot before I went to sleep at night. I love them because I can listen to books while I am driving, shopping, running errands, doing housework, showering, putting my face on, etc.
