1% of Anything: Episode 16 (Final)

We’re in for a treat after enduring a painful separation, with Jae-in and Da-hyun discovering a newfound determination to be together again, against all odds. There are a few issues still left standing in the way of our favorite couple, but we all know just as well that there’s no stopping Jae-in when he’s got his mind stubbornly set on something. And there’s no stopping a determined Da-hyun, either.

EPISODE 16: “The person who completes me”

Jae-in visits his mother to ask for her blessing, and she asks what he would do if she refused. Jae-in responds that he and Da-hyun would wait until she relented, getting older and older in the process, and adds that he felt like dying without having Da-hyun by his side — anything would be better than that. His mother sighs, conflicted.

Later that day, Jae-in brings Da-hyun to Grandpa’s house to formally meet his family. Da-hyun frets over her appearance, but Jae-in lovingly reassures her that she looks pretty. His mother enters the room then, jokingly chiding Jae-in for being so lovey-dovey as she welcomes Da-hyun in. Grandpa makes his way down the stairs and greets Da-hyun, commenting that it’s been a long time since they’ve seen each other.

Confused, Da-hyun says that this is the first time they’ve met, but Jae-in looks at her in surprise, asking if she still doesn’t recognize him. Grandpa calls Da-hyun his savior and hands her a small envelope; she opens it, revealing the hospital bill receipt that she had paid for Grandpa.

It takes a few moments before Da-hyun finally realizes that Grandpa is the man she saved all those months ago, and she gasps in delight at the discovery. Grandpa jokes that it’s only fair for his savior to receive his entire inheritance — a rude little rascal like Jae-in doesn’t deserve any part of it. Grandpa urges the two of them to get married soon so that he can be there to see it, and Jae-in’s mother quips that Jae-in is probably in more of a rush than Grandpa is.

In the car, Jae-in pouts when he hears that Da-hyun’s parents want an herbalist to be their son-in-law, and says that the only son-in-law they’ll be having is SH Group’s Lee Jae-in. Da-hyun laughs at his grumpiness, but things get serious when the couple meets with Da-hyun’s parents, who adamantly refuse to give their blessing.

“Everyone starts out liking one another in the beginning,” says Da-hyun’s mother, “but that isn’t the case anymore when you start living with one another!” She insists that Jae-in and Da-hyun are too different from one another in terms of status to be compatible, and her father says tersely that he doesn’t want Jae-in to make Da-hyun suffer. Declaring that he’ll never give his blessings, he gets up and leaves the room.

Outside, Da-hyun worries about what to do and wonders if they should just take things slowly, since there’s no need to rush the marriage. Jae-in responds that he’s in a hurry and adds that he’ll take care of everything as long as Da-hyun doesn’t change her mind.

The next day, Jae-in makes the trip to her parents’ house again, though Da-hyun’s mom refuses to meet with him and asks him to leave. He comes back the next day, and the next, and the next, trying to wear them down in a game of persistence. Da-hyun’s parents wonder how he’s traveling so much every day when he’s supposed to be such a busy man, and concerned about the rumors going around the neighborhood about “Da-hyun’s man,” Da-hyun’s dad finally agrees to let Jae-in in.

Jae-in immediately acknowledges her parents’ concerns, but points out that Da-hyun herself wouldn’t be happy marrying someone else. He adds that they’ve tried to break up already but couldn’t forget each other, and Da-hyun’s dad asks if Jae-in is asking for a fight. Jae-in just asks, “Will you give me Da-hyun if I win, then?”

Cut to: Da-hyun running up the stairs to her parents’ house in a panic. She bursts inside, looking for Jae-in, and at that moment, he stumbles out of the master bedroom, reeking of alcohol. He slurs to Da-hyun that he received her father’s blessing, and nearly falls over in the process. Da-hyun pulls him away, and through the opened bedroom door, we see her father lying on the floor, passed out drunk.

Having relocated to another room, Da-hyun peers carefully at Jae-in as he sleeps, and laughs before gently stroking his head. She tucks him in and resumes blissfully watching him.

The next day, Jae-in visits Da-hyun at school after she finishes dancing with her students. He informs her that the media will be reporting on their marriage soon, and wonders if she should just quit her job. But Da-hyun gives him a look for even trying to mention it.

She brings up signing a prenup, and Jae-in agrees that everything will be very official — their new contract will have a special clause that forbids divorce under any circumstance. Da-hyun jokes that they should add in an alimony clause, but Jae-in retorts that they don’t need things like that since they won’t be getting divorced anyway. Leaning in, he rephrases his demand into a request, asking her sweetly not to leave him and to please live with him forever.

Da-hyun smiles, and Jae-in sits her down before getting on one knee. He pulls out a small box and opens it to reveal the ring inside, formally proposing: “Kim Da-hyun. Will you marry me?” She giggles and answers yes, and Jae-in slides the ring onto her finger.

They leave the school arm in arm, and after some discussion, they agree to have their honeymoon in Canada where Jae-in’s biological mother lives. Touched, Jae-in asks if Da-hyun is really all right with that, and she responds that she’s fine with anything as long as she has him by her side.

At the wedding hall, Hyun-jin readies her video-camera before walking into the waiting room to record Da-hyun. She squeals over how pretty Da-hyun looks and sincerely wishes for her friend to be happy. Jae-in, handsomely suited up, enters the room as well, and he and Da-hyun spend a long moment just looking at one another in complete bliss.

Jae-in walks up to Da-hyun, and she giggles over the irony that she’s the one marrying him, considering that she had wondered who would be the poor soul that would end up married to a devil like him when they first met. Jae-in laughs, and Hyun-jin urges them to kiss for the camera.

The scene cuts to Da-hyun and Jae-in in their home, watching Hyun-jin’s video. After the wedding, Hyun-jin had filmed a special message for Da-hyun from her store, wishing the couple a happy, long life together. Hyun-jin had then trailed off, muttering about her hope for her own prince to come, which is when they see that Tae-ha walked into the store, doubled back out, and then walked back in.

Da-hyun and Jae-in note it with surprise, and crack up as they watch how Tae-ha nervously stammered in front of Hyun-jin, unable to come up with a good explanation for why he was randomly at her store. Finally, he worked up the nerve to ask her if she was available for a date, and Hyun-jin had grinned to herself as she shut off the camcorder.

In the following weeks, Da-hyun and Jae-in continue to go about their lives busily, though it seems that becoming Jae-in’s wife has added a ton of duties onto Da-hyun’s plate. She attends a social gathering for classical music appreciation with Jae-in’s mother, and the other elites snicker when Da-hyun mentions that she likes listening to Ji-soo’s pop songs.

One especially snobby woman comments that someone from SH Group ought to have better taste in music, and Da-hyun looks away in embarrassment. Noticing Da-hyun’s discomfort, Jae-in’s mother comes to her defense and remarks that whether it’s pop music or classical music, the most important part is the sincerity behind it.

“Besides,” she adds, giving a pointed look to the woman’s equally snobby daughter, “SH Group doesn’t let just anyone into the family just because she knows a thing or two about music.” That puts them in their place. Jae-in’s mother smiles warmly at Da-hyun, and Da-hyun gives her a grateful look in return.

At Jae-in’s house (now adorned with the couple’s wedding photos), Da-hyun dozes off on Jae-in’s shoulder as he’s working, and he laughs at how she could fall asleep at a time like this. He suggests that they go to bed and cups her face, grinning as he says that he’ll be good to her.

The next day, Jae-in worries that Da-hyun’s overworking herself as he helps her load a few boxes into the car, but Da-hyun insists that she’ll be fine. She’s about to get into the car when she suddenly runs back to Jae-in and envelops him into a hug. He gives her a kiss, and they bid each other goodbye.

Da-hyun works busily at the orphanage’s fundraiser event, and Jae-in stops by to check in on her. When she cutely pushes Jae-in to buy the remaining items to support the orphanage, he easily relents, excited to whisk her away from the event and spend more time with her.

Meanwhile, Hyun-jin stalks out of Tae-ha’s office at SH Mall, wondering why he called her over to talk about nothing. Tae-ha insists that he needs to know why she hates him so much, and Hyun-jin responds that she doesn’t hate him, but that doesn’t mean she likes him either.

Hyun-jin offers to just sleep together once if Tae-ha’s that obsessed with her, but Tae-ha is utterly scandalized by the thought as he says that she’d have to marry him if that were the case. Shocked, Hyun-jin tells him that she’s not okay with that in the slightest and walks away, leaving Tae-ha to huffily comment that she’s really charismatic. Ha.

The next day, Employee Kang excitedly reports to Jae-in that Da-hyun’s all over the news for participating in the fundraising event, and the media outlets are dying to interview her. At home, Da-hyun sighs over her newfound fame, and Jae-in notes that Da-hyun looks really tired lately.

He reminds her to take things easy, and she gets up to go to her room for some rest. But suddenly, she stumbles and falls back down onto the couch. She mumbles that she feels dizzy, causing Jae-in to fret over her.

He brings her to the hospital, where the doctor asks if Da-hyun’s been feeling stressed out lately. Da-hyun starts to answer that no, she hasn’t, but Jae-in cuts in, pointing out her overflowing schedule. He suggests that she stop her cooking lessons because he doesn’t care what they eat, and that’s when the doctor steps in to say that Da-hyun needs to eat well, because she’s pregnant. Simultaneously shocked and excited, Da-hyun and Jae-in hug one another, grateful for the good news.

At a formal SH Group event with Tae-ha, Hyun-jin can’t hide her smile when he tells her that he really does like her. Hyun-jin agrees to date him, but there’s a catch — she won’t get married to him. Tae-ha just responds defiantly that he’s going to marry her, and Hyun-jin jokingly bemoans her popularity.

Everyone else from the company is there too, and Grandpa is on the podium, ready to give a speech about the ups and downs he’s experienced during his journey with SH Group. He notes that while some people had ulterior motives when approaching him, there are a few altruistic people out there, and it’s thanks to them that life is worth living. “I’ve come to realize now that someone’s one percent of uniqueness can become someone else’s ninety-nine percent of luck,” he says.

Scenes of Jae-in and Da-hyun progressing through their relationship are interspersed with a reminder of Hyun-jin’s words to Da-hyun: “Even when ninety-nine percent of a guy’s traits are good, if you end up noticing that one bad trait, you’ll grow to dislike him no matter how good he is to you. And even if ninety-nine percent of a guy’s traits are terrible, as soon as you notice that one percent of goodness in him, you’ll end up falling for him. That’s the man’s charm.”

Grandpa concludes his speech by saying that he plans to become someone who gives back to others, and adds that he wishes for everyone to find their “one percent of anything.” The entire room gives him a standing ovation.

After the event, Da-hyun wonders if Jae-in is disappointed that Grandpa donated his entire fortune instead of giving it to him. Jae-in says that he wanted to build his own wealth anyway, and asks Da-hyun if she’s disappointed. Da-hyun turns to Jae-in and smiles brightly, saying that she got the greatest gift from Grandpa already: Jae-in.

She notes that the chances of them meeting were just one percent, but thanks to Grandpa, her life has been changed forever. Jae-in tells her that it was ninety-nine percent destiny, and adds that it looks like he’s found his “one percent of anything” already. Da-hyun agrees, and they kiss.

COMMENTS

Although I’m not entirely convinced by how easily Jae-in and Da-hyun got back together, my love for cute couples and happy endings is doing a lot to repress any lingering questions I have about the ending. Thanks to the adorable chemistry between Jeon So-min and Ha Suk-jin, I’m coming away largely satisfied, though I do think there’s just that one percent missing (pun fully intended).

For one, Jae-in’s biggest concern was that he wouldn’t be able to be there for Da-hyun if she married him because he’d be too busy handling company matters. It’s clear in this episode that he did manage to find time to be with Da-hyun after they got married, but how did he do it? It feels like we’ve just arrived at the desired end result without knowing how we got there.

I felt similarly about the issue of getting their parents’ blessings — everything was wrapped up in a bow, but I don’t know how it happened. I appreciate that Jae-in’s mother was far from the stereotypical mother-in-law, and considering that she has been a gracious, reasonable woman throughout the drama, I’m not particularly surprised that all it really took to get her blessing was a simple conversation. Besides, we had already known that she had some misgivings about forcing them to break up, so it makes perfect sense when we see her accepting and even defending Da-hyun as her daughter-in-law.

On the other hand, the parental opposition starts to feel a little contrived when we realize that the bulk of it is coming from Da-hyun’s parents and not Jae-in’s mother. We had that one scene where Da-hyun’s mom was scandalized when Da-hyun admitted to being in a contract relationship, but for the most part, Da-hyun’s parents were largely absent from the drama, and their sudden reappearance in the final episode feels a lot like filler — especially if you consider that Jae-in’s solution was to out-drink Da-hyun’s dad. Sure, superior alcohol tolerance might be a measure of “manliness,” but how is it any indication of whether Jae-in will treat Da-hyun right?

I’m just glad for all parties involved that Jae-in really is a good person deep down inside, and it’s been a pleasure watching him progress from being an overbearing, petty man-child into a sweet, loving boyfriend/husband. I do get the sense that Jae-in was never really a jerk to begin with (despite how often he mistreated Da-hyun in the beginning), but that he just showed different sides of himself to different people. After all, he was always kind and respectful to his mother even before he met Da-hyun; it’s just that he learned how to express his love in different ways (giving his mother a gift, calling her on his birthday, etc.) after meeting Da-hyun.

Speaking of mothers, I’m still a little curious about what happened between Jae-in and his biological mother — why did Jae-in have to be adopted? Why couldn’t he move to Canada, especially considering that he doesn’t seem to have a particularly bad relationship with his family there? I suppose the issue isn’t something that’s necessary for the plot to keep moving, but it just feels like a detail that got thrown away and forgotten.

Nevertheless, perhaps it’s better that we didn’t get bogged down in the family background drama, and got a bunch of cute couple scenes instead. Jae-in always touches Da-hyun’s face so adoringly — whether it’s pinching her cheeks or cupping her face or caressing it softly — that you can practically see the hearts coming out of his eyes as he looks at her. The way that Da-hyun ran back to give Jae-in a hug before getting into her car is yet another indication of how much they love each other; they’re married, and they live together, but they still can’t get enough of one another.

Although 1% of Anything had a very strong old-school vibe to it in its initial episodes, I think the remake managed to do a great job in keeping it modern enough to escape most of the old-school clichés. I appreciated that Da-hyun’s character never really changed just because she started dating a guy (she’s as sassy and as cute as ever), and that our couple had real, believable reasons for separating. Things got a little crazy when Joo-hee was around, but I’m just thrilled to have everything end on such a positive note.

I agree with you. It was a treat, indeed! I too had seen the original version (which I liked and enjoyed watching and esp. loved the actress who played the original Kim Da-Hyun), and just like you, I loved (and really enjoyed) watching this revamped version so much more. ❤ ?

Right on! Now, that's how you do a K-Drama remake (esp. coming from the original writer's own original screenplay that was adapted from his own novel it was based on)! Kudos to the writer of this series (and the original version). It's very interesting to know it was actually a man (surprisingly, not a woman) who wrote this beautiful rom-com and he was not afraid to update and make changes to his own original story to fit with the modern times, and yet still keep the best ones from the original and managed to make it fresh, interesting, and new. Thus making this remake a great and memorable one to watch (in my viewing). This was definitely one of the few (unexpected) surprises and little gems I've seen from some of the K-Drama releases I've seen this year! :-)

I do agree with you when you say that everything was wrapped up a little toooo neatly. The way I see it, they could have cut down on the time they spent in break-up mode and instead expanded on the opposition to getting married from Da Da's parents all while giving us as many NEW cute couple scenes as possible. I mean, with all the great kisses they've had, there was just one measly one in this one? (I'm so greedy. LoL). Or it would have been nice to understand what happened with Jae-In's biological mother...

Oh! Did anyone else notice the extension AND THE KISS that happened on Jae-In's birthday??!?!?! Kkkyyyyyyyyyaaaa ❤❤❤❤❤

A lovely & predictable episode. I'll be sure to rewatch the whole series again whenever I want to feel all warm and fuzzy.??

I thought the length of the separation was just nice though, any shorter it might not have been as impactful, but they could have just added one more episode?(It's just around 35 min anyway) to show the part where Jae In seek approval from Da Hyun's parents and the actual marriage part. Those were too short and a little abrupt. But I'm just happy to know that the sweetest couple of the year finally got their happy ending!

Yes, I felt that the show would have done nicely at at least 45 minutes per week instead of 30-35 minutes in most of the episodes.

Missing bits:
Hyun Jin threatening or blackmailing Tae Ha into helping her and what he actually did... Did he only bring Jae In to the cafe where he knew Da Hyun would be on her blind date? He kept saying that, that was the best he could do... was that it?

Follow-up on Ji Soo and Soo Jung's dance number and whether it garnered any interest. Since the show decided to add in their dance, the least it could have done was show us what happened next. Also did Soo Jung get accepted after her auditions?

Soo Jung's meeting with Da Hyun and becoming friends and being part of the wedding. Surely she didn't get packed off to Canada just as her brother was rushing to get married!!

More wedding videos!!! And a group photo with Hyun Jin's brother, Hyun Jin, Da Hyun's family, Lawyer Park, Grandpa, Mum, etc, etc.

Jump to the future scene ... with toddler in tow and another baby on the way, and mum and dad being as lovey-dovey as ever!!! :D

I totally agree with you. I was also waiting for that part where they show the couple still happily married 3-5 years later with a toddler or 2 in tow and grandpa and mothers-in-law so contented with their great grandkids. Still it was a really nice watch.

love love loved this drama! it really gave you all the warm and fuzzies <3 I cannot wait to see our two leads back in dramas again! And I sincerely hope they date in real life :D

This drama has THE BEST ENDING CREDITS EVER. The changes this remake made like cutting off other conflicts and just focused on the otp and their sole developemnent with each other really work. I am glad the writer removed Da hyun's teacher lover interest, and added only the cute part of Tae Ha's burgeoning relationship. Jae in and da hyun's relationship in this remake is much more realistic, flows better, and just better than the awkward and sometimes almost full on antagonistic mood of the orginal. In the orginal, even when they were married, the interactions between the otp is questionable in that would they divorce should one of their barbs turn into something more. With this remake, you can totally see the otp was in it to win it. They are so into each other, like everything else can be contested except for their romantic and sexual interests in each other, even when they are not kissing. But yeah the trimming of 32 episodes to 16 and 1hr to 40ish minutes worked out for the best, in showing what I was tunning in for: the utterly adorable and cute and ecstasy of two people in love. Any other drama that has the word kiss in the title should know what they are contending with. OH this drama is just so satisfyingly and gratifyingly joyful.

ME!!!!ME!!!! I will gladly volunteer to be lawyer Park's Dada and yes he'll be emotionally unavailable until he sees me making this great speech at a UN conference held in Jae In's hotel. There will be no terrible mother-in-law, no truck of doom and no terrible ex-girlfriend in our story instead we will focus on how mature people date, fight, make up, fall in love and make a relationship work despite our different cultural background. Him being a prominent lawyer in SK while I'm a travel nurse from Canada working for the UN. We will make our relationship work despite the distance and the obvious cultural differences. Haha. Sorry I got carried away.

Seriously though, I really love this drama and yes I will gladly watch Tae Ha and Hyun Jin's story.

Aah... Lawyer Park should definitely get into couple-dom too. He's really good looking!!! In the original he dated Jae In's sister (missing from this version) and they were kinda cute too. He was a dunderhead when it came to romance :D.

In this version, the other cute pairing would be Jae In's sister and Ji Soo. It'd be great to see Ji Soo running to Da Hyun for advice on dating while Jae In glowers at him for taking her attention away from him.

And in the background we can have Jae In's co-workers secretly dating and volunteering to do work all night. ;)

Agreed! It came at a time when real life was being super stressful and I just couldn't watch anything with drama or pain or angst or suspense. I needed something fluffy to calm my heart from the unfluffyness of every thing else and this did it. Thank you writers, director, actors, and staff! And thank you dramabeans peeps for helping me relive every episode!

I marathoned this drama in 3 days and.... love, love, love. This show is love. I love HSJ for years, he's so sweet and lovable, no matter what characters he played. And this drama brings the sweetness out of him.

I was sad when it ended but absolutely loved the chemistry of the OTP. Its a feel good romcom and a soothing show to watch when one wishes to escape our daily life 'struggles'.

This show was everything I ever wish for in a dramance. Take a bow Ha Suk Jin and Jeon So Min and the entire team of Something about 1℅.

I went back to Seinfeld after I finished 1℅ (and Jealousy). It's a shame these two Kdramas aired at once, I'm sure I would've survived the withdrawals if they came 6 months apart. Sigh.

Ugh, I can't get enough of these two. Reading the recap brings the giddy feelings back all over again.

I'm so glad the drama decided to focus mostly on the couple, because they have adorable chemistry. The way they look at each other, it was as if you can almost literally see honey dripping from their eyes. Glossing over the plot may be a downside narratively, but it kept the drama lighthearted and sweet, and I couldn't imagine it any other way.

There's one thing I wish the finale spent more time on was their wedding. There were even stills of their wedding ceremony, which I think got cut out of the aired episode. I loved the ending, despite it being a bit too perfect. But perhaps because I loved the couple too much, I just wanted... more.

First of all, a very big THANK YOU to these four lovely and wonderful DB recappers of 1% of Anything (2016) [remake]: Lovepark (for starting the recap of this little gem: Ep 1), Laica (for Eps 2,3,5,7,9,15), HappilyEverAfter (for Eps 4,6,8,10,12, 14, and 16, the final episode) and HeadsNo2 (for Eps 11 and 13). You were all great and your comments and analysis of every episodes you've all recapped were equally great! Thank you all again for taking the time to recapping this drama. I am already missing this drama especially our favorite OTP: Lee Jae-In & Kim Da-Hyun ❤ ? ? ? (with hands down, the best mature adult relationship, best chemistry and best kisses ? ? ? of all K-Drama Couples of 2016!) and the great acting and chemistry of Ha Seok Jin & Jeon So Min, they were on fire and what kept me hooked and watching this little underrated gem! ❤ ❤ ? ?

This final episode was very good. Though I was hoping to see more of Jae-In & DaDa's wedding, like the ceremony and reception (and even the Honeymoon, lol...like the original version did), but unfortunately, we didn't see them. Glad they at least showed DaDa wearing her wedding dress and Jae-In wearing his tuxedo. They looked so great together! ❤ ? Also, Tae-Ha & Hyun-Jin ? ? looked so cute together!! Loved that scene where DaDa was about to get into her car (to go to the Orphanage's fundraiser event), but she suddenly runs back to Jae-in and envelops him into a hug. ? ❤ ? ❤ Aww. They are just so darn adorable and cute! I was definitely contented and satisfied with the ending (despite having a few questions about certain things and even though I was hoping for more of the wedding scene, more kisses from our favorite OTP, and at least an hour long episode...but that's just the greedy part in me ;-) ) as I'm very glad it was a happy one (and how cool is it, that HappilyEverAfter is the one who recapped this last episode? ;-) ) and it gave me a very warm and happy feeling after watching the finale. Not too mention, I loved the extended montage during the end credits (very cool as I was about to search for a video collection of their sweet kisses on YouTube, lol... :-D ) highlighting all of Jae-In & Da-Hyun's lovely and romantic kissing scenes especially that never-before-seen (deleted) kiss they had on Jae-In's birthday! ? ? ? ❤ ❤ ❤ Loved them all!!! ? ? ? I just ❤ this series ???? and will start re-watching and marathon the entire series this week! ?

There were still some missing kisses in the montage I think, but at least they gave us one we never did get before ie the Jae In's birthday present kiss. Pity they edited it out from the Birthday episode. It was a very hot kiss!

Yay thankyou happilyeverafter for this final recap and it is Happily Ever After for Jae In and Dada. I love that in the end the show highlights their love for each other withstand the separation, not able to move on without each other and the willpower to be together. I appreciate the grounded way Jaein persuaded Dada to start again. The offhand way he mentioned he loves her. The simple and down to earth ring presentation. Nothing else overshadow their love.
Sigh this show gives me so many happy buzz. One of the best remakes ever.

I kept wondering why they kept the title but never openly referred to it. In the original JI used it often to try to sell Dada on the maybe 1% chance that they might be able to make a go of a relationship (because he really wanted that inheritance). So they held out until the end to tell us what the 1% was really about this time, very sweet.

Love! Love! Love!

I LOVED this show to pieces and absolutely adored the finale. I'm honestly glad I picked up this low-angst rom-com when I did. The shorter episodes and its heavy focus on the OTP (let's be honest, the only characters that matter :P) made for a sweet and breezy watch. Just the kind of sunshine and rainbows I needed in my life considering the state of the world we live in.

And can we talk about JI&DH's many, maaaaany kiss scenes? Wow. Hot AF. Any show that has more kiss scenes than I can keep track of is a good show in my book (not really, but it definitely helps). Also, seeing JI&DH's growth as a couple was beautiful and I'm so thankful we were given a glimpse into their married life. These two were made for each other and that little peek we got makes it clear that JI&DH will grow old and gray together, living happily ever after. ^^

Lastly, can I also just agree with every '1%' viewer out there in their statement that Ha Suk Jin and Jeon Seon Min have phenomenal chemistry? They brought a naturalness to their on-screen interactions that it's hard not to ship them in real life. #Guilty #SHIP

This show is definitely on my 'will re-watch over and over again' list.

Oh and besides confessing my undying love for this show and the OTP, I also wanted to ask, can someone please explain JI's familial relationships to me? That's probably the only part of this show that I wasn't too clear on.

What I understood was that his biological father (the person who also owned the SH Mall shares), was grandpa's son who passed away. His biological mom remarried and moved to Canada so his current mom (after losing both her son and husband--JI's cousin and uncle) adopted him, especially seeing how considerate he was at the funeral, so he can stay in Korea and be groomed to inherit SH Group? Is that right? Enlighten me, please. This was a family chart of Jack Nicholsonian proportions in complexity and confusion.

Yes, you have got the relationships right. The wife of the elder son who died (grandpa's daughter-in-law) decided to adopt Jae In as her own when she lost her family. She probably wanted an heir for both her own family (Daehan Electronics group, was it?) as well as to ensure an heir with the Lee family name for grandpa.

By adopting Jae In to become the son of the eldest son, I think it made his aunt (grandpa's real daughter) resentful that her son, Tae Ha, would not get an equal chance to inherit. However, he'd have less priority because his family name is Min and not Lee.

What a perfect little story. I could quibble about this and that, but I think I am satisfied with what it turned out to be: a mature and sweet and believable romance.

HSJ♡JSM made my second favorite OTP ever. (Persuasion's Capt. Wentworth and Anne Elliot is first in my book.)

And so it issssssss. I was giggling and squealing throughout the episode. SO. CUTE. GAH.

Da Hyun is the epic idol fan ever. Wherever possible to generate publicity, she wouldn't miss the chance to. Chaebol classical music be damned, she still gonna promote her beloved Ji Soo. After 10 years, if she goes through with quiting teaching, I think she should venture into opening her own idol management company.

And guys, tell me it isn't only me. That blue shirt when he took Da Hyun to meet his grandfather. Da Hyun repeatedly asking Jae In if she looked ok could've just been a subtle attempt at getting him to notice his own fashion mishap.

1% of anything goes down as my favourite drama of 2016. Initially, I was all about Drinking Solo but I kept seeing comments about how HSJ's other drama (this) is just as good if not better. I am sincerely grateful to those commentors for bringing this drama to my life. I'm so delighted to have witnessed the growth of Jae In and Da Hyun's relationship. It felt so real, watching them bicker and fall for each other. There were no long drawn conflicts or noble idiocy. The mutual respect for each other's lives. Thank you HSJ and JSM for the portrayal of a sweet and warm love. Whenever I need a lighthearted drama to watch, this'll be something I definitely will turn to. 참, 잘했어요! (yay, good job!)

thanks DB for introduce me with this sweet drama. thank you so much happilyeverafter and laica to recap this underrated drama. this remake version is more life than the original, and this drama like an intermezzo in kdrama. I really like this couple, HSJ and JSM acting really make me believe that when we fall in love don't afraid to hold someone that we love and make me want to think about getting married. I hope that they could end up together in the futur.

This drama probably can wrapped better if they got more time, but this drama done very good for a remake,
they keep what is good and elevate it,

Dada's family is a big part in the original and with the amount of time allocated, it realistically can't be covered but as someone who see the original, I find this drama actually did what I want for the main couple in the original.
Not really about the skinship but on how believable their relationship become and how Dada is really our of Jae In's world,

Overall , I am blessed to actually follow this while it aired

I'm so glad that the show didn't rehabilitate and bring Joo-Hee and Tae-Ha's evil parents back. I'm glad the show didn't diminish the true selfishness and the real harm that the three intended to inflict on our OTP.

Thanks so much Laica and HappilyEverAfter and all on the DB Team who've recapped and reviewed this show. You've made the fun watch all the more enjoyable and understandable.

Aside from some weird editing and plot holes, this was a wonderful re-make. It has made the story of the original so much tighter and more focused, it has added some enchanting OSTs that I can't get enough of and of course it has given us an OTP with the sweetest displays of affection all throughout the show, unlike 99% of the ones I've seen. This has truly been the top 1% of the best romances I've come across.

Kudos to the Production Team and the actors who've brought this story to life, and made Jae In and Da Hyun our kdrama 'neighbours', whose everyday lives, we cannot get enough of.

I look forward to reading you all in many more recaps!! :)

Happy sighs!! The original 1% was the second K drama I ever watched, almost six years ago. So when I heard about the remake, I was very excited and hoping that they could keep the best but trim away all the useless padding.

Well I got what I wished for and so, so much more!! I will really miss this gem.

It has been said that Jae In won over DaDa's parents far too easily, just by out drinking the father - but that fails to take into account a very important point: DaDa's hometown is Jinju, which is pretty much at the other end of the Korean peninsula, a good four hours drive from Seoul.
The fact that Jae In repeatedly took the time to make this journey spoke volumes to DaDa's parents about his commitment.
That was what won them over.
(The six bottles of soju just sealed the deal! ;) )

This OTP have become one of my all time favourites and I think I will now be using this drama to lure unsuspecting friends over to the Dark Side of K Drama obsession!

Thanks for pointing out the distance. Yes, it was his determination that won him an open door. Actions speak louder than words or empty gestures.
My future husband would drive a 10 hour round trip in poorly heated Jeep in winter just to see me between my work shifts on weekends.
As for Jae In's work commitments, she was his motivation to make the time for them to be together. He learned to delegate and trust others. In the beginning it seemed that he was so driven to succeed he did everything himself. Towards the end, he had opened up to his deputy and his cousin. He was willing to end meetings early to date DaDa. While he couldn't imagine it before he met her, his happiness with her became something he wanted to take the time to enjoy.

Thank you for explaining the distance between Jinju and Seoul. I know it's JaeIn's effort to travel there that melts the parents' heart, it's just that I don't know how far is the two places. 4 hours drive is BIG for the Lee Jae In :D

1% of Anything helped me remember why I started watching kdrama in the first place, I’m a person who likes all kind of genre, but these days it seems that rom-com is a bad word in the audiovisual market, directors and actors don’t want to do, screenwriters don’t want to write, there have been few movies of this genre produced in recent years and it’s even smaller the amount of movies that were actually good, 1% of Anything is purely rom-com, in its most basic formula, but that’s not a bad thing; on the contrary, it’s her greatest appeal, their something that captivates me about the construction in seeing two people fall in love on screen, and in Kdrama it's almost 16 hours, so we can see them as individuals with all their issues and how those mess bring them together, the good and the bad and Everything in between.
I fell in love with Jae-in and Dada and their love, I will miss them with a taste of wanting more.
Any recommendations from some rom-com that's recent?

I got one for you. I finished binged watching this J-Dorama (Japanese Drama) titled Happy Marriage (and I just noticed that this was a recent released too), a few days after I completed watching the final episode of this series. I’ve just stumbled upon it on YouTube and it reminds me a bit of the Princess Hours/Goong and this series (1% of Anything) as far as the dating/marriage contract relationship goes and I loved the lead female as not only she’s pretty and adorable, she has a spunky attitude that reminds me of Kim Da-Hyun. Happy Marriage has short episodes too (with 30-40 minutes long per episode) and has a total of 12 episodes (too short…thankfully, all the episodes are fully subbed on YT). It was a very good little series, much like 1% (though, I love 1% so much more), and it kept me watching for the main OTP. It really helped me a bit with my 1% sepanx (separation anxiety) and withdrawal, lol. :-D

I have just watched this Jdrama after seeing it mentioned here in DB. It's breezy and the guy is goodlooking too. I think it's just that I am coming off of watching 1% that I can't help but be underwhelmed by this couple's chemistry. But I think in an objective perspective, it is a good romcom.

Thank you HappilyEverAfter and DB for the recap of this show. Will miss our OTP and their cute relationship trajectory. I hope they get even better individuals from here on out. I love that Dada as we had hoped remained true to her character - fangirl, charitable and a teacher.

I mentioned this in the what we're watching thread but will say it again, hehe. My favorite is the normalness of the hug when Dada turned back to JaeIn and peck from JaeIn. It seemed so natural! There's a bts pic of this scene where JaeIn was nuzzling her neck during the hug. heehee. delusional shipper.

Farewell 1%! Til my next rewatch. <3

And here's to hoping for a season 2!

The ending is so bittersweet <3 Was hating that it had to end, then it went ahead to be this diabetically sweet. I really cannot.

JSM and HSJ's chemistry is sizzling. I'm not sure if any other actors would have made the show this adorable. This is easily one of the most underrated show of the year. Plus, considering it's low budget (side note: The show really screams low budget. It doesn't even have its own set of OST songs, except for maybe that one song by Lee HaeIn. Tons of glaringly obvious sponsors and relatively less known actors as our side characters. They did really amazing, but there were no big names that dramas usually put out. Locations, like the hall used for the anniversary dinner, appears to be rather minimalist as well), everything was arranged so well. Despite not having their own set of OST songs, i dare say that the music arrangement can beat even some highly rated dramas.

This show definitely has its flaws and loopholes and things i'd like to be improved. But all in all, it is the happiest romcom this year. It didn't even feel oldschool at all despite the relatively used 'contract' relationship with a chaebol plot. Loved the way the separation was played out also.

On a side note, does anyone know where I can get the original novel (probably have to order it online somewhere)? I remember seeing it available for purchase online somewhere, but can't seem to be able to find the link. Many thanks in advance!!

This drama got me through the slump of drama watching. Both characters had flaws, but were mature enough to understand what was against them. Jae In was a GOAT dealing with the annoying second lead. It was nice to actually see two characters not deal with the BS. Even with the cousin, he handled himself accordingly with everything too. I really enjoyed it. I will definitely be watching this again. It was a surprise that I even liked it.

Been a DBlurker for quite a time now and this drama is what made me come out of my cave. Haha! Love, love, love this show!!! I've watched my fair share of KDs but this is one of the few that really made me squeal, smile and happily sigh from the first episodes to the last. Thank you for the recaps DBteam! I'm sad I won't have episodes and recaps to look forward to every week anymore. Will surely miss this OTP. Oh well, rewatch mode on! ?

There was nothing new in this drama....(literally since it's a re-make) but it was so charming especially after the first few episodes. I don't know who put these two actors together, but they lucked out with having some of the best chemistry in k-drama circa 2016. Since chemistry seems to be the luck of the draw in k-drama, this drama lucked out. Good job.

Unlike others, I actually liked the short episodes. They basically cut out filler with secondary characters and I'm okay with that. Also, I think this drama got the giddy falling in love aspect of a possible new love better than any drama I've ever seen. When they are on the phone and not wanting to hang up etc. it just really gives the feelings of a couple falling in love.

One last thing, nice to see a teacher represented as a career in k-drama instead of the cop/lawyer/doctor thing. Just a lovely drama overall.

Loved this drama! It was fun to watch the dynamics change between Jae In and Da Da. The affection built naturally and before the end of the contract they did feel like a real couple. I was hoping there wasn't a breakup, but it was necessary. Glad Jae In explained why he was hesitant to get married.. and then looking past the concerns to go after Da Da. Nothing like facing a future without the one you love and seeing them maybe have that with someone else to spring a guy into action. Da Da honestly saying she didn't have the confidence to marry Jae In.. needed to be said. What changed her mind though? Needed a little more explanation there. Overall it was a feel good drama. Acted well. Edited well. Worth the watch.

@sorrynotsorry Yes, DaDa did make her final decision after hearing he loved her, but she must have had some other reservations... I would have liked to see her think about it the night before after Jae In left...

This series has been an absolute joy to watch. I've become a huge fan or both Ha Suk Jin and Jun So Min. Their chemistry was undeniable, and their acting prowess unquestionable--in this series at least. There were so many scenes in this episode where Suk Jin sold me: the look he gave DaDa walking down the boardwalk wanting to hold her hand; the for lack of a better word dumfounded look when he saw DaDa in her wedding dress on their wedding day; and his simple yawn on his drive to DaDa's parents house to get their approval.

Interestingly enough though, I found some of Suk Jin's expressions in this episode to be reminiscent to those of Kang Dong Won's, in an adorable way. His acting in general was a bit different.

I must say though that I wished the had one or two more episodes for this one felt rushed. They tried to cram too much in. When our OTP found out about the pregnancy, I much preferred the scene from the original. Here's to hoping we might see these two again.

Joy of a drama. However, I don't get the 1% thing. That and loopholes aside, I love the chemistry. One of the best in kdrama land. I will not be surprised if they end up together in real life. Thanks for the recap!

Don't hate me but am I alone in thinking this drama dragged? I just could not see pass the acting or lack of chemistry? Something was missing and it seem as though the writers just threw in a bunch of overly sweet scenes to cover up true development in the characters. I actually appreciate the first version more.

I push myself to read all the comments below,and i smile a lot when reading the comments.i cant stand to comment here.thanks for the producer all the cast for brought up the simple yet lovely drama to fill my 2016 drama lists.I really love to see both jaein n dada,they like my happiness pills for me.I found my new feveret couple after songsong couple(delusional shipper haha).pls wgm producer take them to join we got married.i hope they will dating in real life.loving all the songs from this drama especially love therapy.definitely my rewatch drama.love themmmmm???????(still sad to bid farewell for this beautiful drama)

I wouldn’t have watched this drama if it wasn’t recapped here in DB and based on the positive feedback by beanies on the commentary section, thank you, thank you, thank you!!!

This has been a sweet ride, chaebol machinations to the minimum, and the best OTP scenes. I luv this couple for overcoming their own set of problems and working out their differences… This is the best example of a heroine, who didn’t change or capitulate after being in love, she was adamant about keeping her job, yey!!! And could I get my own ha suk-jin, his moony eyes to jeon so-min, is just lovely to watch. i luv how his character clearly adored his wife and would do anything to make her life easier. Their interaction for much of the drama’s run is more realistic than most couples in kdramaland…

I hope this will become a trend in kdrama, showing much of the couple’s interaction while being in love and the aftermath of their decision to be together. More often than not we get the cute falling in love interactions, lengthy angst (sometimes unnecessary, to create conflict), then getting back together on the last week and then the end. Maybe the shortened time allotment, around 45mins, worked for this drama to avoid filler and concentrate on da-hyun & jae-in relationship, which is win-win in my book!!!

I really enjoyed this drama, especially since I'm too stressed for tons of crazy scheming exes/parents, misunderstandings, etc right now. I was surprised how little screen time the (nominal) second leads got--and in the case of the second female lead, very pleased. I also liked the no-nonsense way Da-hyun dealt with opposition during their contract relationship.

I think the reason Jae-in was adopted was because he was the only living direct male heir of the Lee family and Grandpa wanted him to inherit. He probably pressured Jae-in's mom to leave him behind.
