The K2: Episode 4
by gummimochi
Things take a sharp turn this hour when Je-ha pushes the pause button on his past to embark upon a new chapter of his life as an elite bodyguard. While his fighting skills may be a cut above the rest, he’ll need to rely on an entirely different skillset to face the challenges headed his way. Getting accustomed to this shift in lifestyle may take some time for both him and for us, but if that means revealing an endearing emotional underbelly for our hero, then count me in for the ride.
EPISODE 4 RECAP
We pick right back up with the elevator fight where Je-ha takes down the bodyguards and points the gun at Representative Park… and snaps out of the fantasy. What the? It was all in his head?
In reality, Je-ha reaches for the gun, only to draw back from an oncoming panic attack. His breathing labored, he crumples and clutches his chest. The JSS bodyguard helps him off the elevator, and Representative Park sighs in concern before the doors close again.
Drawing in deep breaths, Je-ha asks who that man is.
We hear the answer once Je-ha is back in his hotel room: Park Kwan-soo is another presidential candidate whom everyone working for Yoo-jin believes was responsible for the attack against her and Je-ha.
Je-ha recalls how he had seen a glimpse of Representative Park making a deal back in when he was a soldier. Rania (previously written as “Nania”, my mistake!) had also been present, and he’d seen her being taken upon the politician’s leave.
A shot had rung out, and by the time he caught up to her, she was on the ground, dead. Both his past and present self pour out their grief with loud screams, and present Je-ha yells Park Kwan-soo’s name.
Some time later Je-ha assembles what looks like a makeshift remote-controlled motion sensored booby trap set to burst upon approach. He finds his opportunity the next time Representative Park gets his next shave and Je-ha slips the remote into the politician’s blazer in the dressing room.
He waits for Representative Park in the lobby, rising to watch the impending spectacle. But in that moment, a child runs ahead of Park and gets caught in the revolving doors… exactly where the device is installed. Uh oh.
Je-ha is stopped from getting any closer as the child bursts into tears. He sees the flashing light indicating that the device is seconds from explosion, which is when Representative Park is escorted through another exit, putting distance between him and the device, much to Je-ha’s relief.
He turns to leave, but the officer who stopped him flashes his badge at him. Je-ha hones in on the distinct burn mark on his wrist… the same one the blue-masked leader was wearing the night he’d caught Se-joon’s illicit affairs. Aha, so Park Kwan-soo had sent his men after his political rival.
But it seems the officer recognizes him from that night too as they both throw punches at one another. Je-ha flips him over in greeting and takes off up the escalator. He runs through the kitchens and runs through the building with Representative Park’s men hot on his tail.
He kicks a men down and pushes another into the horde before running off again. As a scanner picks up the remote on Representative Park’s person, Je-ha races to a rooftop where he’s prepared a harness. But there’s a surprise waiting for him below: Chief Joo.
Je-ha has already descended to the ground by the time Representative Park’s men reach the rooftop. He reluctantly gets into the car with Yoo-jin, and Chief Joo remarks that Je-ha’s booby trap plan wasn’t half-bad, save for the execution.
He thanks Yoo-jin for helping him escape, and when she asks about the email, he tells her that’s probably why she’s still safe and sound. Calling him by name, she asks him what exactly kills an enemy—the bullet or the gun used to shoot him? Or could it be the finger that pulls the trigger?
She’s aware that Je-ha is unable to pull the trigger thanks to his PTSD (and Je-ha sends Chief Joo a piercing death glare). He declines her offer of pulling the trigger for him, saying that he’ll do it himself. But she disagrees—today’s events prove that he can’t do it alone.
Park Kwan-soo is no easy target, and while she may not know why Je-ha is after him, but like the saying goes, an enemy’s enemy is her friend. If Je-ha accept JSS’s help, the organization will be his gun when the time calls for it.
“Become the bullet… and I’ll pull the trigger for you,” Yoo-jin states. She calls him a “friend”, citing that they met under the perfect circumstances.
Up in a remote estate, Anna’s personal bodyguard—the same one who brought her back to Korea—complains to the housekeeper about how this job of protecting her charge for two years in Barcelona and then here in Korea put her entire life and career on pause. She couldn’t care less whether Anna can hear her or not, and can’t wait until the presidential election is over in a year’s time. Er, how much time has passed, exactly?
Anna seethes in her room as she overhears her bodyguard scoff at the idea that the assemblyman will pay a visit to see his daughter. As long as Yoo-jin is in charge, no one will ever foot in this godforsaken house.
Anna hangs onto that last statement, convincing herself that Yoo-jin is the reason why her father cannot come to visit her.
After a long run, Je-ha enters the JSS headquarters and draws immediate attention. But first we meet two staff members: a doctor who removes Je-ha’s cast and a pun-loving martial arts master who scowls when she’s sweet to the handsome young’un.
He demands that Je-ha joins training with the other trainees starting today, and doesn’t even let him sit down before calling him to the mat. Introducing himself as master SONG YOUNG-CHOON (Song Kyung-chul), he explains how his name makes him the true successor of the Wing Chun (youngchoon) martial arts form.
Master Song invites Je-ha to come at him, and he gulps when Je-ha strikes and stops his hand an inch to his neck. He walks Je-ha through common martial arts decorum and assumes a fighting stance. Je-ha simply reciprocates the stance, so Master Song breaks to explain a teaching point, then tries to trip Je-ha up.
Unfortunately for him, Je-ha anticipates the oncoming attack, leaving Master Song to collapse on the mat. Master Song then tries flipping Je-ha over, only to praise him when he doesn’t budge.
Having had enough, Je-ha retaliates when Master Song tries attacking again and puts the man in a body lock. When Je-ha is called away, Master Song claims that Je-ha got off easy today. And then Je-ha doubles back to properly greet his master. Pfffft.
Chief Joo is pleased that Je-ha’s probationary period is over now that his cast his removed. Je-ha’s potential superior Team Leader Seo is against the idea of Je-ha joining his VIP team so soon, and once they’re alone does he remind his boss how Je-ha wiped the floor with the JSS agents during their last ambush.
Chief Joo launches into a metaphorical lecture, describing a hunter whose new hunting dog wasn’t welcomed by the pack. What should the hunter do? He should throw the newbie to the wolves, so to speak, and let the pack figure out their new pecking order. Time will tell whether the rookie will submit to the others or emerge as the new alpha.
We get a clear shot of Je-ha’s various tattoos while he’s in the shower (one says “Honor, Destiny, Glory”, another is of praying hands). A neighbor recognizes him from their last encounter, but he’s not the only one in those showers holding a grudge.
Je-ha ducks after he spies an oncoming attack from behind, then uses his towel to ward off the first few who charge at him. He takes a brief break to rinse off the shampoo, and then wraps the towel to grab a guy’s arm and flicks the towel at another.
He slips another agent before hitting his face with a bottle, then squirts the contents all over the wet floor. Placing his towel on the ground to stabilize himself, he waits for the agents to come at him and slip all over the floor while he casually tells them to be careful.
A few men push him into a bath, where Je-ha strikes one down, buries another agent’s face into the water and kicks away a third agent. He steals a towel out of another bodyguard’s hand to wrap around his own fist and start punching away. He kicks one last guard in the shin before flipping him into the bath too.
Chief Joo watches the video feed in amusement. Okay, the fact that you have security cameras in the baths and you’re watching this right now is super creepy.
Je-ha runs into Master Song when he exits the showers, though the latter is clearly still bitter at him. It’s only when Je-ha hears the man slip and fall does he finish the sentence, “It’s slippery.”
A research analyst pockets a tiny chip retrieved from the car wreckage. He doesn’t mention it to his boss. Interesting.
Je-ha is introduced to the entire VIP team, and now we finally hear his code name: K2. Team Leader Seo isn’t happy about the new addition either, but they’ve failed in protecting their client and they can now learn from this hard lesson. The researchers are hard at work creating a new security system and they’ll be changing up the assignments to prevent something like this from happening ever again.
Je-ha’s assignment is a night shift in Section C, which we learn is a task Team Leader Seo only gives to someone he hates. But this also means that Je-ha is tasked to act as Anna’s bodyguard.
That’s exciting news for Anna’s female bodyguard MI-RAN, who jumps to get ready. Having eavesdropped on the call, Anna wonders who Kim Je-ha might be.
In the car, Je-ha is curious about his new charge as well and learns that Anna is Se-joon’s daughter who has been kept away from the hidden eye. Her existence cannot be made known to anyone, least of all Representative Park.
Once they arrive at the estate, Je-ha is introduced to a dolled-up Mi-ran. Upstairs, Anna sneaks a peek at Je-ha and identifies him from their previous encounters.
Je-ha and Chief Joo sit down to learn everything about Anna’s severe panic disorder. The housekeeper (and Chief Joo’s sunbae) explains how the curtains remain closed because of Anna’s sensitivity to strong flashes of light. Things like sunlight or a camera flash can induce an episode of short-term memory loss, so Anna rarely ventures outside no matter the time of day.
Anna has a routine as well: She gets up at 9 PM and takes an hour-long shower, which is when they clean and search her room for prohibited items. She doesn’t like strangers thanks to her social phobia and prefers to be and eat alone, so the housekeeper and bodyguard stay out of her way unless they’re called.
Mi-ran claims that she always responds at a moment’s notice, though a flashback teaches us how untrue that statement is. Additionally, Anna tends to stay up at night watching TV, particularly the home shopping channel.
Chief Joo believes Je-ha has nothing to worry about during his night shift, but if anything should happen, he should immediately report it.
Je-ha is brought to the surveillance room where the bodyguard runs through the details of the night shift. Every corner of the house is monitored 24/7, save for the rooms and bathrooms, which for privacy reasons, have thermal cameras.
The bodyguard takes notice when Je-ha responds in banmal to this explanation, pulling rank over him as the sunbae. But Je-ha doesn’t blink an eye because he’s heard that the bodyguard used to be in the Special Forces too. And if we’re counting those years, Je-ha is technically his sunbae. Well now.
He has the bodyguard fix him a strong cup of coffee with two packets, and when the latter thinks the second packet is for him, Je-ha corrects him: “For me.”
While Chief Joo casually picks up the chip from the research analyst, Mi-ran puts on a show for the cameras. She figures that “Je-ha-sshi” can’t hear her anyway and notes how warm it still outside. Even with her back turned, the housekeeper can tell that Mi-ran undid another button.
Mi-ran believes that Je-ha is probably salivating while watching her on screen when in reality it’s the other bodyguard ogling her. Je-ha wakes up from his nap while Anna takes a peek to watch the women eat their ramyun together.
At a cultural diplomacy event, Yoo-jin observes her husband drinking with a group of beautiful women. She maintains her smile when Representative Park remarks on how popular Se-joon is with the ladies, replying that he should be when women make up half the voting population.
When Representative Park makes another barb about her own safety, Yoo-jin is armed with her own, particularly Representative Park’s recent close shave at his barber’s. He rests assured that he’ll find the culprit, which prompts Yoo-jin to cue the entrance of another staffer to bring the chip found in her car.
As it happens, Yoo-jin’s new staffer knows Representative Park’s secretary, who suddenly looks very uncomfortable. Did the secretary set aside some private business time with her employee? And to that, Yoo-jin comments how being beautiful isn’t a crime, but the problem lies with “serpent-like men”. Oooh, guess who won this round.
So Representative Park can’t help but laugh awkwardly when Yoo-jin delicately says that her staffer would love to clear her conscience. He calls for a ceasefire, which she graciously accepts.
It’s about 10:30 PM when we check in with Je-ha, who leisurely monitors the security cameras. He sees Anna stop outside the bathroom after washing up and head downstairs before stopping again. So he zooms in the camera just as Anna stares directly into the camera.
He’s legitimately spooked and talks to her image as if she’s in front of him. He watches with curiosity as Anna head to the kitchen and bypass the prepared food on the table to open the fridge instead.
His commentary continues as she closes the refrigerator door looking disheartened, and he tries to guess what she’s looking for. It’s almost as if Anna can hear him when he provides direction around the kitchen, but she finally beams when she finally finds what she’s looking for: ramyun.
Je-ha’s face breaks into an amused smile as Anna twirls around holding the packet of ramyun. Her euphoria in such simple pleasures captivate him, and he comments that the large pot she first takes is too big.
He watches how Anna contemplates her choice and exchanges it for an appropriate size. He talks to the screen while she fills the pot with water, stammering nervously when she fills it to the brim. Hee, can you always be this adorable?
He watches intently as Anna struggles with the gas knob, and he searches around to find out that the valve is turned off. He instructs her to look up and to her left, even gesturing as if that would help.
He grows adorably frustrated when Anna gives up, wondering why she can’t find the valve. Because she can’t see or hear you, buddy! He’s a bundle of nerves when Anna exits the kitchen and grabs another dish before heading upstairs.
He tries following her with the cameras, urging her not to give up: “Ra…myun…” But Anna enters her room, leaving Je-ha to get up from his chair and point to his screen, wondering aloud why she didn’t keep trying.
Exasperated, he asks, “How can a girl not know how to make one ramyun for herself?” Heh.
He contemplates whether or not he should make it for her before shaking off the thought.
When Yoo-jin and Se-joon leave the event, she advises her husband to take a different car since he’ll need to attend to other business. It would be rude of him to keep his ladyfriend waiting, wouldn’t it?
Se-joon says through gritted teeth that she needn’t be so considerate, but he takes Yoo-jin up on her offer anyway. She convinces him to greet the press before they go, and when the reporters ask for a doting pose, Se-joon lightly embraces his wife, then places an arm around her.
Thinking about the small affectionate gesture has Yoo-jin shed tears in the car, as she bites her lip to try and keep her emotions in check.
Je-ha checks in on Anna in her room before heading out to the balcony for a smoke. He looks up toward Anna’s window and smiles. Just as he’s about to light up, he spots a glint on the roof.
He strains his eyes to get a closer look at the moving light, and then he sees something much more distinctive: a shadow.
COMMENTS
Even if it’s unclear whether that shadow is friend or foe, I think it’s safe to say that Anna is in constant danger anywhere and everywhere—though the chances get exponentially higher whenever Je-ha’s around.
So before we get into the areas I loved about this episode, I have to say I’m still recovering from the tonal whiplash from the first half-hour. Nearly all the scenes that took place in the JSS building were a mind-boggling, confusing watch from the filler scenes focusing on peripheral characters introducing a brand of humor never before introduced in this show to an unexplained narrative jump between Yoo-jin’s offer-demand of Je-ha joining the JSS and then catching him on the tail-end of an unseen probationary period. What concerns me most isn’t the filler scenes themselves but rather the use and execution of them because their sudden insertion does little to erase the deep-seated fear for a well-rounded plot.
Not only that, but the depiction of JSS cuts down on Chief Joo’s claims in the previous episode that they’re an elite security service privy to the most secretive of secrets… which is guarded by perhaps the most un-elite of bodyguards. And while a part of me knew that JSS wouldn’t be portrayed as the best of the best, I wasn’t prepared for the organization to be painted as a potential butt of the joke either, especially when compared to Representative Park’s men. I have this unsettling feeling that we’ll be seeing more of people like Master Song and Mi-ran, whose scenes weren’t necessarily my cup of tea in terms of comedic relief.
Instead, I found myself giggling over Je-ha and his endearingly awkward side that contrasts with his super slick action moves. His stammers reminded me much of the bumbling character Park Bong-soo in Healer, a portrayal I very much enjoyed at the time. His first night on the job watching Anna was the strongest part of this hour, and the emotional buildup made for a thoughtful execution for both of these characters who had previously met under stressful circumstances. I did love how the passing mention of ramyun segued into a beautiful euphoric moment for Anna to enjoy the simple pleasures in life. Even if Je-ha didn’t speak to her in person, I adored how he tried to point her in the right direction, even getting frustrated when she would give up.
And for Anna, I would hope that her late-night craving for ramyun also speaks to an inner yearning for social contact. Although her social phobia, panic disorder, and a desire to be loved by Dad currently stand as huge emotional and psychological obstacles, she still pokes her head out to see what’s going on around her… and tried to escape the monastery in Spain numerous times. I can only imagine that her bodyguard Mi-ran was busy lounging around to keep tabs on her. And somehow she’s still on the job?
Lastly, I didn’t anticipate to enjoy the heated exchanges between Yoo-jin and Representative Park as much as I do. The thinly-veiled insults they send to one another makes for an engaging watch, especially when both characters work hard to keep up a polished public image. I appreciate how a few plot points did come full circle in this episode with the reveal that Park Kwan-soo is trying to tarnish Se-joon’s candidacy. What he was doing at the Iraqi desert is still shrouded in mystery, but I rest assured that Kim Gab-soo will pull off an impressive performance as the enemy’s enemy.
So while some of the narrative traffic signs point to a potentially dangerous curve up ahead, I’m looking forward to watching more of the characters who count. Just like those cameras, I’ve got my eye on you, The K2.

Too many people have noticed Yoo Jin's expressions in episode 3 car save scene.
I think we all have see so many scenes of males characters carrying Girl like that. Now every time that cliche move unfolds in a show we directly start to think of romance.
Overall Je Ha - Yoo Jin interactions are more engaging and intense.

"I think we all have see so many scenes of males characters carrying Girl like that. Now every time that cliche move unfolds in a show we directly start to think of romance." I didn't think of it as a cliche move because the situation and characters themselves weren't cliche, therefore the bridal carry felt natural and right for the scene. I just love that they were never set up as romantic interests, but as explicit antagonists. The entire lead up to the situation involved YJ having JH ordered killed and JH turning the tables by taking her hostage. It wasn't a hero-saves-damsel-in-distress-and-carries-her-off-into-the-sunset cliche. It was a refreshing "hero"-takes-"villain"-hostage-then-saves-her-life twist. This 180 is what I think is really drawing people to the ship, not some conceived ideas of romance. And it's also YJ herself that is drawing people in because she is what makes the dynamic so unique. Especially after he saved her. She experienced something that is pretty apparent she never experieced before. Someone risking his/her life for her. Someone who had every right to want her dead. Someone who, earlier, had a gun to her head, and vice versa. All of this is why, when YJ looked at JH with dazed astonishment/disbelief and when she kept trying to reach out for him, it was so impactful. It would not have had the same effect if not for the way Yoojin's character was set up and their initial dynamic established. For example, if it had been Anna in place of YJ, the whole situation would not have been anywhere near as unique and compelling, or the expressions on the "damsel's" face so unexpected and impactful. Like you said, it's their specific dymatic that's so engaging and intense. Song Yoon-ah's brilliant acting and their amazing chemistry is a bigpart of it as well, of course.

tbh the last thing I hope for this drama is shipper fight,
I mean the drama hasn't suggested the couple and we already make our own but to make a couple sailed from ep 2? or ep 4?
we don't even know if je ha likes yoo jin or anna likes jeha?

Never thought of them as a couple. I think she admires the fact that he saved her, and other than that, I just don't see "chemistry" that way with these two

My eyeballs popped out of my head. That's all I have to say about the SINGLE MOST glorious display of gratuitous fan-service I have ever seen in three years of watching k-dramas. So shallow of me, I know. But I am thanking the k-drama gods.
I'll be back with coherent comments later.

The bathhouse fight scene was unique. My jaw dislocated for a moment. Yes, they had on flesh colored water-wear speedo type things. As I mentioned above, there would have been more than arms and legs flying thru the air if not for the skivies. Whoever came up w/and got that scene approved has my appreciation for life.

The bathhouse scene is reminiscent of Eastern Promises with Virgo Mortensen (of course, that action scene was directed in full Viggo glory) but this shower scene has probably nailed it's place as the best, in any KDrama obligatory shower scene ever.
About time they came up with awards for shower scenes though.......

Seriously! First I was in awe of how much work Ji Chang-wook put into his body. There is def more bulk and definition compared to healer days (my all time fave JCW avatar has to be Healer's Park Bong-soo or Bong-sookie!!) Then I couldn't stop laughing at the gratuitous-ness of the scene. Only possible on cable! Highly doubt this would have passed on the big 3 channels.

To be a drama editor? you will have to give-up weeks of sleepless nights even months, pressured by lack of time and fast approaching broadcast dates. Even when dramas are pre-produced, post production had always been the most taken for granted part of production.
Plenty of times, the attention is on what camera footage can be match together, considering the continuity of body movement, lighting, props, sets, and correct dialogue, it would be tough luck to ever get a minute of a break to appreciate what's happening in a seq.
But it does have a lot of perks... if you're editing the drama that you happen to like, which rarely gets assigned to you. *toink...
Drama gods, where art thou?

Shining, shimmering, splendid
Tell me, Anna, now when did
You last set eyes on this prize?
Je ha: I can open my shirt
Take you wonder by wonder
Over, sideways and under
On a magic absy ride
Je ha: A whole new world
A new fantastic six-packs view
No one to tell you no, don’t ogle so
Or say you stop that drooling
Anna: A whole new world
These dazzling abs I never knew
But where I’m staring here, it’s crystal clear
That now I’m in an absy world with you
Je ha: Now I’m in an absy world with you
Anna: Unbelievable sight
Indescribable feelings
Swooning, eyes popping, jaw dropping
At this oiled and ripped delight
Anna: An absy world
Je ha: Don’t you dare close your eyes
Anna: A hundred thousand veins to see
Je ha: Hold your breath, it gets better
Anna: I’m like that Running Man star
I’ve run so far
I can’t go back
To where I used to be
Je ha: An absy world
Anna: Every fold a surprise
Je ha: I don’t eat no more subway
Anna: Even ramien makes me better
Both: I’ll run with you anywhere
There’s time to spare
Let me share this absy world with you
Je ha: An absy world
Anna: An absy world
Je ha: That’s where we’ll be
Anna: That’s where we’ll be
Je ha: A sizzling chest
Anna: Wondrously stacked
Both: For you and me

I'm in love with the developing relationship between Chang-wook and Yoona.
The scene where he was watching her during her attempt to make ramen, and almost cheering her on was beautiful (hopefully not creepy lol). To see the importance that the making of ramen had taken in her life, and subsequent disappointment when she was unable to prepare it was heartbreaking.
I thought this scene paralleled, in a way, the prior scene where Chang-wook saved Yun-ah from the car crash. In that it showed Chang-wook first exhibiting a sense of caring towards two women who few seem to bother to display any sense of consideration towards. Both Yoona and Yun-ah in their respective ways have no one around them who truly cares for them, other than out of some sense of obligation or duty to one's job (notice how the other staff paid to guard Anna pay her no mind, acting as if she doesn't exist).
Chang-wook is breaking through this mold.
I can't wait for more! Five days is too long!
(The fanboy in me must give a shout out to how gorgeous Yoona looks in her white dress. Seems that's all she'll wear the whole show lol. Oh well. She's rocking it. Being such a perfect angel has its perks! She looks beautiful in anything.)

lol, je-ha is living vicariously through anna - i guess he too wanted a bowl of ramyeon and haha, he got really frustrated by not getting it - via anna.
though in the beginning he looked to have some jedi-power over her mind, she did look to the left then selected another pot. that darned valve - that, he couldn't get through to her lol. he must be a padawan, still.
but it is VERY creepy they get to see her EVERYwhere, and even had IR imaging from her room. i mean, seriously, they can actually SEE what she's doing every minute of her life. and by "they" i mean every small-minded perv who gets to "protect" her. just look at the bodyguard ogling anna's female guard. perv. *throws all the ramyeon water on him*

That scene felt off to me too. I didn't buy that he he was so invested in her kitchen and ramen challenges. I mean yes, he was probably bored and welcomed the distraction, but the scene was written like he was watching the Super Bowl. I was like, "...okay." I think only shippers got any enjoyment out of that scene. I also didn't find the ramen euphoria cute for long. Anna was freaking PRETTY, for sure. And it really was cute for 5secs. But then the scene wouldn't end. You know how people are complaining the action scenes are so meaninglessly long they become eyeroll-worthy? That's exactly how I felt about the ramen scene.

There needs to be a little bit more build-up before Jeha became that invested in Anna trying to cook the ramen. There s no reason to be that curious about someone who just finished her bath and trying to find something to eat..

I think Jae Ha has savior complex (is that even exist? Lol). We've seen how he couldn't walk away from people who needed to be saved throughout episode 1-2. And there's this girl, Anna, who is hidden from the world, afraid of flashlight, has sociophobia... well... that sounds like this girl needs every help she can get.

October 3, 2016 at 12:54 AM
I agree .. I am not digging the ramen scene. I find her twirling and dancing withe the ramen scene over done. It's as if she is shooting a ramen CF. the only thing I love about the scene is jcw's expression. It gives an insight of his personality beneath the toughness that we have seen so far. Am still not feeling Anna's character. I really hope this will change as I really want to fell a strong chemistry and OTP that I very much root for.

October 3, 2016 at 12:59 AM
That's exactly how I feel, a normal human being who watches a girl on a bathrobe dancing with ramen in the middle of the night would think gosh, this girl really belongs in mental asylum, why would the scene made JH falls for Anna because of that? I mean look at the way he watched her through that CCTV, that's already the look of admiration and affection (#meta Healer ad lib at the end of esp.5) You seriously want me to believe from their three meaningless short meetings they can officially be declared as OTP just because of the ramen scene? The only OTP establishment from that scene is Yoona and the ramen, I still can’t ship JH and Anna. JH doing self banter with the CCTV is oh so very cute, but I would rather see him making fun of her ridiculous antics and phobia first then the feelings slowly start to build up from helping, to caring then to loving. Get your priority straight, Yongpal-nim, the whole failed bomb scene can be replaced with building a foundation between JH and Anna, and the whole naked bath scene is just again the waste of plot building time, I'll be a jerk to hate naked Wookie or any naked Korean Oppa in general, but I agree with gummimochi, all the scene did is merely painted JSS as a joke (thus the writing as well), that many of elite bodyguards couldn’t take a single guy who used towel and soap as weapons? Hell, in real life JH would be ShawshankRedemption-ed by those guys, they are obviously bigger and more well-trained than JH . That scene is far from classy and I didn’t enjoy it. Yes, we do love shower scene brooding and occasional fan services, but this? We (most of us) are conservative Asian females, not animals... PD-nim and Yongpal-nim, you guys really need to learn that less is more. You have the incredible JCW and the great Song Yoona as Hillary Clinton, just two of them sitting and talking is powerful enough, you don’t need complicated thinking out of the box twisted story lines or multi spectacular over the top action scene. This is weekend Kdrama for God’s sake, save those for your Hollywood breakthrough. One more thing, please stop with the chanting choir BGM whenever Anna comes out in the scene, she’s not Quasimodo, it’s very distracting.... Still gonna watch K2 until the end, just because I really miss the trio Healer, PBS and SJH. Ahjumma, when are you going to make a cameo appearance...??
theshiphassailed
October 3, 2016 at 1:16 AM
I feel they miscast kpop Yoona. She is ideal as an always cheerful Candy girl, but her normal personality is a bad a fit with Anna's character. The ramen scene doesn't work, because Jeha would more realistically be laughing at her and because Anna's happiness was over-acted.

@JV, @El
+100000 I found that scene so off too. It made me feel like the PD is suddenly going for another "Healer" which seems out of place, is only annoying to me as I didn't like that show and odd as Healer didn't do that well ratings-wise, so why try to make something similar?
The whole scene just made me feel like everything we've been told/shown about Je Ha so far went out the window. Aside from the fact that it was pretty nonsensical, it was completely out of character for him. We've seen a little bit of him being flustered with his late fiancée, but being akward at proposing to the woman you love and being akwardly invested in a girl you barely know making ramyun is so not the same.
The whole episode just felt somewhat off imo. I liked the humorous training scene, but I wondered at how bad the JSS trainer was and I don't get why none of them can put up a good fight.
Random note: as to people complaining about too much action - that's like watching a rom-com and complaining about too much romance. This is the first proper action-kdrama I've ever seen, all other so-called action-dramas I've come across have veered off into romance and trauma and never even had that much action to begin with. As an action fan, I'm really loving the amount of action shown in the first 3 episodes. The character development complaint I just don't get as exactly those scenes seem to hold so much information on the characters, showing us who are they are sliver by sliver.
But now they're kind of ruining that with their odd attempt at making Je Ha more "lovable", ugh.
Also don't think there's too little plot. We've already got the political battle, JH's trauma, Yoo Jin's marriage and Anna's sort-of-imprisonment. No need to make things more complex than necessary in a 16-ep show.

I'll let that She-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named reference slide because the rest of your comment is so on point lol. Especially the part I put in asterisks because Y-E-S. This scene has its own purpose: to tell us how a steel bodyguard in K2 has a soft, mother-like to weak people, and how K2 is watching Anna like she is a little funny hamster in the night. But also, at the same time, it tells us he is human-like.

October 24, 2016 at 1:57 PM
Wellllll....true the scene was waayyy to long but the dance was still cute (Yoona is really winning my heart with her acting) and let's look at it from this angle. JH got a rundown on the girl. She's a 'sociophob' can't be around people has certain peculiarities and he has a thing for the weak (clearly from the old couple) so it's understandable that when he saw her he was so invested in what she was doing.
I got the running commentary bit because he was interested in what she'll do next and he would Hever loved to help the girl out.she's like a child.
He smiling and looking on at her wasn't because he was smitten but because she was just like a troubled sad child smiling and joyful and he couldn't help but look on fondly.
That's what i reckon went on. He's not in love with her yet. He's just interested in who she is

Also, Anna's dance for ramen was too unreal and long. She does not look angelic to me as it is intended, she looked rather lunatic. Like, she waltzed with a pack of ramen. That was weird. And so out of place.
Speaking of weird, nude bath scene was also weird. The problem is not the scene itself, I think I am having a hard time understanding how Koreans can be so comfortable w/ same-sex nudity (from what I've seen in the dramas). Don't they have body-image issues, or a "private parts" concept? Not to mention ignoring the gay.
I really want to like this drama, and have been liking it actually, but this last episode had issues. They just failed with the comedic relief thing, really.
One final thing. The candidate. Is it me, or is he over-acting?

...have you been to a jimjilbang? In terms of the 'gay' thing, from my observations affection between male friends is a lot more acceptable in Asian and Middle-Eastern cultures.
anon
October 2, 2016 at 11:31 PM
for a society with communal baths, don't think the same-sex nudity is such a big thing. And particularly here where it is like an military environment, men bathing together in neighbouring cubicles is not that gay.
neslinin
October 2, 2016 at 11:37 PM
@Ren
Is it some sort of public bath? No, never been to Korea, or anywhere beyond Europe. I don't know if it is a culture difference, or maybe because I am shy, I cannot imagine myself in a nude public bath. I could not concentrate on that scene because it is so unfamiliar to me. I really could not focus on jcw, or the chocolate abs around him. Even if they edited, it felt like all I see was a bunch of flying male parts ?
paramount
October 2, 2016 at 11:40 PM
It's pretty much impossible to find a Korean person who hasn't been to the bath house/spa & the first thig you do there is get naked with a bunch of same sex strangers lmao.
And they're also all men... who were in the military... all of them would be used to these communal showers & being naked amongst other guys.
As for "gay," my experiences living in Korea a few years taught me
1) it doesn't even occur to most people as a possibility since there's not much visibility for the LGBT community even tho they totally exist.
2) same-sex friends are very physically affectionate & nothing is seen as odd about it. high school boys sit in their male friends laps. girls walk down the hallway hand in hand. no one is ever presumed to be gay for these things. It's just cultural difference!
But I'm 100% with you on the ramen scene. I actually couldn't stop laughing. It was like those 360 angle kiss/hug moments on other dramas but it was her and....ramen lmao.
neslinin
October 2, 2016 at 11:46 PM
Btw, by ignoring the gay I meant this: they can be nude with the same sex, because they do not acknowledge that the homosexuality even exist. I may be wrong though. It just looks that way to me.

Anna is aware that she got a new hot good looking bodyguard who happens to be her savior in Barcelona. She knows Jae Ha's shift time since she eavesdropped when the Ahjumma was explaining things to Jae Ha.
So I think basically she's doing what Mi Ran did... seducing Jae Ha.
1. She went out only wearing bathrobes (well try see through night gown next time, dear)
2. She acted cute and angelic. She even made sure she faced the cctv camera.
Hemmm... Nice move Anna... nice move... tsk tsk tsk

October 3, 2016 at 1:28 AM
@Ane That's interesting, I've been to nude communal saunas in various European countries as well, so I wouldn't have thought there'd be such a stark cultural gap. In regards to whether people become shy/body conscious, for me anyway, everyone just sort of blends into the masses. It's sort of like when you leave a dark room and the outside sunlight is super bright, it's startling at first but then your eyes just automatically adjust.
I think a lack of LGBT awareness partially contributes to why communal baths don't come across as gay, but it's also because the connotations attached to certain behaviours aren't consistent across different cultural contexts. ie I'm sure Rugby looks super gay an outsider.
Anyhow, sorry for the completely long winded and off topic response!
kaybee
October 3, 2016 at 2:08 AM
@Ane
Mind blown lol. In my country (as well as in South Korea) communal showers are really normal. Showering after gym class as kids (boys and girls even together until a certain age), showering after going to the gym or being at a public pool, going to the sauna... Communal showering/being naked in front of the same sex is no big deal here and there usually aren't even any stalls, but rather just one long wall with rows of shower heads. But I get feeling shy about it and it also does sometimes contribute to bullying at school, so some people here are shy about it as well.
I really don't get what you mean by "ignoring the gay"? Unless you always see showering as a sexual thing instead of a hygiene thing, then there's nothing "gay" about same-sex people showering together nor any problem with gay people showering with straight people of the same gender. I've never heard anyone express any such concerns in my country and gay people are generally really open about their sexuality here, so it's not like it's because everyone's pretending/believes there are no gay people.

October 3, 2016 at 5:17 AM
First off, I did not mean to be offensive. Sorry if it came across that way. As I said before, I think I am just shy. I've never been to public baths like that and have been showering alone since 10. First time I've seen such kind of baths was in Kdramas, that's why I only mentioned Korea. Thanks for letting me know that it is not just an Asian thing. I wonder if they have it here at the states too. Not that I want to go lol.
@Kaybee Thanks for the reply. I sure see showering as a hygeine thing, not sexual. What I meant was, they can be naked with the same sex, but not with the opposite sex. That means they do not ignore the probability for a sexual tension for the opposite sex, but they ignore it for the same sex. But now I got it, you are doing it without really thinking, it is just a custom for you. I over-analysed it, sorry!

And it may also have to do with the fact that LGBTQ+ is still a minority, so it's just easier to still divide it Men/Women instead of trying to figure out how else to do it - especially as no one finds it to be a problem, which may have something to do with the pretty relaxed attitude towards the naked body that is dominant here.

I think we can definitely reconfirm that it is the same writer as Yong pal when some of us was scratching our heads when our awesome Yong pal suddenly was madly in love with KTH. Really, when? Did I miss an episode? On the other hand, Healer's love was more organic. I'm just going to believe that JCW was just bored and wanted to talk to himself vs fallen madly in love with Anna. But it was a delight to see Park Bong Su again. ?

Anna's dance for ramyun isn't unreal. It depicts that little has nothing happy in her locked-up life. She has wanted to have ramyun when she saw the housekeeper and the female bodyguard having it. The fact that she find ramyun as she wished is to hint that she wants to live like others.

IA about the ramen scene. there needs to be more build up between je ha's lack of interest to his complete fascination watching the yoona-ramyeon bonding moment
by this episode i gave up trying to like or understand the storytelling/directing, i'm just here for the pretty and damn some pretty it was. JCW is so easy on the eyes
i find him so much sexier in the track suit more than the nude shower for some reason..

The whole episode was filler. Out of the blue forced humour and instant light back ground music change was too abrust to ignore.
I don't think humour even fits this show. The best could be light teasing not too often and relaxed interaction between characters here and there. especially between Je Ha and Yoo Na.
The only meaningful scene was description of Anna's behaviour and Political verbal I-get-you between Yoo Jin and Kwan Soo.
That ramen scene looked like PPL to me. Anna twirling for few seconds was enough but it almost kept on going for a minute and Je Ha's Overtly reactions looks out of character to me. At the time Je Ha trying to guide Anna was like us Viewers. We worry, shout and suggest characters to go or not go that specific place, Hurry or not hurry, speak or no speak, react or no react. So that was original but expressions of Je Ha looked forced to me.

I agree, humor seems out of place here.
I do think the very first scene was purposeful too. The PTSD diagnosis at the end of ep 3 made me cringe. The whole "can't shoot a gun = PTSD" was ridiculous, he hadn't really exhibited any symptoms of it before and the one isn't (necessarily) a symptom of the other. So since they insist on giving us yet another character with trauma and PTSD-that-doesn't-look-like-real-PTSD, that scene at least made me feel that they made some kind of effort to show what it actually looks like irl, even if they're not gonna show any other proper symptoms the entire show.
Otherwise I completely agree, only so few meaningful moments and otherwise just filler. It felt so abrupt that it was as if the show had changed PDs all of a sudden.

October 3, 2016 at 10:39 AM
I was puzzled. The guy can't shoot? Then what was that shooting at motorbike goons in episode 3? What about the gun pointed at the head of Yoo Jin? Je Ha was quite serious then.
Out of nowhere Je Ha is going through PTSD. Even in episode 01 Injured Je Ha's right side stomach wound looked like from a gun-shot.
Then we have 1st disjointed scene too. Je Ha out of hospital in jiffy, went into hide, created chemical weapon, installed it in a high tech shop and almost executed the plan. It was all like when and How Je ha did all that.
There are few illogical problems in every episode but In episode 04 it was quite evident. I just hope writer won't slack off like he/she is doing right now.
kaybee
October 3, 2016 at 11:10 AM
I think "can't shoot a gun" is meant as "can't kill anyone", so he can shoot, but only where he knows it won't be fatal.
I absolutely agree that the PTSD is out of nowhere and find it utterly misplaced and unnecessary, but at least they tried to make it more real than it seemed in ep 3.
The two scenes between the hospital and him becoming a bodyguard really needed better editing. Yep, the writer definitely seems to be slacking off, which is such a shame, because there's lots of potential. I want to have a proper action drama, but it seems we're off to fluffy romance-land and heart-wrenching trauma-land yet again. Don't get me wrong, both of those things are part of why I love kdrama, but it's just uncalled for and misplaced here.
I've decided not to think too carefully about storytelling logic though. That already went out the window at the first scene in ep 1 LOL.

I don't think it's out of character,
he is a compassionate man,
he helps the helpless Anna in ep 1,
he talks to a kitten,
so affected by the cleaning lady's tragic accident,
fast to engage to the old couple's life,
cares about yoo jin almost death situation
and he sympathises with Anna's life,
We have the scene before that narrate us Anna's life by the maid's point of view and Je had seen other side of her,
it's not that far-fetched that he reacted to her in the CCTV,
besides it's CCTV, it would be out of character if he go out on the 1st looked to help her,
her just reacting, just like what we did when we watched TV or drama,
it even easier and normal to do cause he and us know we have the screen and she'll not hear it,

Agree! I dont see it as out of character. Just because he is someone seen having a cold exterior, he is a marshmallow deep inside. Plus he is alone in the monitoring room making him comfortable to act like that. I actually love this side of him, he is just starting to feel something ,I am actually starting to care for his character, with all the bad things he had been through, a few minutes of amusement wont cause a harm to his image IMO.. it's all up to the writer now, the story and the actors have so much potential..

I didn't really like that scene either.
Hey it was a sweet scene and JCW has this way of talking to a screen, like the CCTV here in The K2, and like how he spoke to the four walls with Ajumma from Healer, knowing she had cameras on him even in his den, but that is just the thing though -- him rooting for her was so cute and I could watch him scream at the monitors all day for Anna to get a move on and finally grow-up and move on from what she went through all those years ago but I felt the scene was lacking with it's intense focus on Anna. I felt like I was watching a CF for how happy ramen makes you. But hey if you hire the CF master you might as well make use of her talents. I hope Anna and JeHa have chemistry if they are going to get closer.
Oh... Yes, that's it !!! JCW is reminding me of Jet Li in 'A Bodyguard from Beijing' but then again as usual I am probably wrong, lol!!

2nd - I think car was taken control over by Police for investigation and Chief bribed the govt employee to get the chip. It's foolish to claim that you can pinpoint a culprit by using a chip as an Proof. But it could lead to a big investigation into which OGM OR OEM company produced it and who was the buyer. I find Chip the least credible evidence. Even the Girl isn't of much use in long run.

This episode is definitely a major improvement to the previous ones with the shower scene, the amusing scene with Master Song and the funny & delightful reaction of ramyun from Anna. YoonA is best serving us ramen in a CF, I found that scene difficult to watch mostly because it focussed on her doing nothing but twirl. The actress behind Yoo-jin is elevating the writing well beyond its actual worth. I hate Yong Pal with all my blackened heart, and I can so clearly see the same DNA running through this show too, but the lead performances are making it worth it. JCW is doing a good job, but it really is Yoo-Jin who's making this show compelling and making it possible for his role to sell well.
She's investing so, so much into her character, I'll never forgive the writer if they cheapen her dedication by writing crap at the end of the run.

I feel like the relationship btwn JeHa and YooJin is more of a platonic one. I think they are each going to end up seeing themselves in each other. Both trapped in inescapable situations. Both alone and unsupported in the big bad world. Both fighting to get what they want at all costs. Etc. I want their relationship to be that of friendship. I want them to end up with grudging respect for each other and for them (especially YooJin) to get redemption from that. Like YooJin learning to let go and free Anna because she can see that JeHa (in the future) loves her. And JeHa learning that revenge won't help him by seeing the dark paths that YooJin is going to go down and stopping her (and himself) in the process. That'd be a good story. Instead of every male and female who interacts having to fall in love with each other. I'd actually honestly be fine with Anna and Jeha not having romance either, but if I had to choose of the two, I'd rather it be Anna.

The thing is it was probably "instant" ramen which is partly pre-cooked and you just need to boil it for about 2 minutes. It's not like raw/fresh noodles. After seeing it in a drama, I opened a block of this stuff and nibbled - it's crunchy and kind of edible. It reminds me of how you can get fried chow mein noodles in a can and eat them like pretzels. Instant ramen like this is also salty as heck, so it's not even totally bland.

I actually nibble at fresh pasta when waiting for the water to boil lol. It's like eating raw cookie dough. But I just think dry ramyun looks so... dry? And eating an actual pack of it and not just bits and pieces while waiting? Can't imagine your stomach would be happy after that lol.

I've eaten those packet of noodles dry. My sister, cousins and I did it a lot when we were younger. You crush them up in the packet, sprinkle the seasoning and shake it up. Then you eat them as you would like chips. It was tasty. It can't be done with all noodles tho. Only certain types.

Hahaha, I've also done it myself (out of curiosity/boredom), hence my question: why did she do it? wae? wae?!!
I actually thought they deliberately turned off the gas valve (as a safety precaution against her doing something dangerous, like burning the house down), so I didn't expect to see any other handy equipment, like an electric kettle!
Girl needs to go camping, at least once in her lifetime. Maybe Je-ha can take her.

As someone with an (East) Asian background I've also grown up eating instant noodles and yes, you can eat them dried and cooked. Hehe.
The noodles are actually fried and therefore crunchy (there are also "healthier" non-fried options now but the typical Korean ramyun are fried, also the more widely know Nissin cup noodles).
When I was a kid I would always eat the little broken bits dry while waiting for the big block to cook but I've never opened a pack to eat it dry but I know some people do it as if it's chips and believe it or not some even sprinkle the seasoning powder on top. Lol

the highlight is the CCTV for interaction and the Bath for the Choreo,
this episode should have titled as "CCTV", cause both scenes is recorded on CCTV.
It quite fascinating that a simple narrative like Je-ha enthusiasm toward Anna's behaviour and Yoo Jin attraction to Je Ha make a different dynamic to them, that once again (probably) the person that Yoo Jin wants the most will choose Anna as their priority.
I maybe read this too far but whenever I see yoo-jin and Jeha flirting feeling in the scene, it seems like one sided. It likes yoo jin falls for him and we feel it (she did it great) but when I see that in Je-ha point of view, he just being usual, he has chemistry with everyone in the drama, even with the kitten so when other character give out the same chemistry to him, it feels great but it still doesn't translate as love to me, more of admiration,
most often I like to look at the male point of view but if you look at je ha - yoojin point of view as a woman, it does look dangerously attempting love story when you (as the woman viewer) and yoo jin already fall for him (who doesn't?) and there's this slight hope that he can changes her,
but somehow it translates to me as she wants him (to be her possession) because he is a precious being
somehow I hope tv show can make crossover parody, god byeong yeon and Je ha can be a good duo, they have the same occupation but really different core personality, gonna be funny if they guard someone like Master Louis.

He totally fall in love with her! Can't wait for another Jeha/Anna scene....plez pd nim...don't broke my heart plez make Jeha and Anna together....and also a good solution for Yoo Jin to become a good person and dad could make amends with his daughter Anna...that's all I want.

I also thought when the scene started where he was building the bomb or whatever it is, that it was a flashback to the Middle Eastern country he was in during the flashbacks with the girl.
Terrible editing and flow. Totally lost me in the first half.

What I found slightly odd was how je ha didn't know park kwan soo's name. I mean that guy somehow was involved in his girlfriend's death, so wouldn't he have gone around asking questions about him (after he could come to terms with her death, that is) ? Especially, given his intelligence and skill, maybe we will get a clearer picture about this in the future.
About anna, I understand that she has had a traumatic experience and was sent to a foreign country. But she was raised in a chapel (or monastery?) right? Aren't people there more kind and sympathetic than ordinary people? So, they could have helped her unless she was literally shut of from the world in that they locked her in a room and only gave food and water at regular intervals. I don't know whether they ll shed some light on this.
The ramen scene was cute. But, then I thought it would have been interesting if the situation was reversed, like anna is watching je ha trying to make ramen and being completely harmless. So, she sees that he is not a bad person and probably her social phobia will ease a little and then she might start talking with him. I know it is not possible to show it that way and sounds completely crazy but that's how my imagination works.
I might be in the minority here, But I didn't like the naked action scene that much. Maybe it was fan service (I am a fan but I was put off by it) or maybe they are showing unconventional scenes to revolutionize the usual dramas, In that case, I guess I am just not that broad minded. Maybe, I ll feel differently if I watch this 10 years from now.
It sounds like I am complaining too much. But, that's not the case, I enjoy this drama and I am looking forward to the upcoming episodes. Its just that, I am new to this action genre so these are just my small confusions and I couldn't help voicing it hoping somebody will give an explanation.

So from what I am getting from all the comments/spoilers (not sure) step mother and step daughter will fall in love with the same guy HOPEFULLY not.
I've never seen such strong Female Antagonist in kdrama before and I like the antagonistic chemistry between Yoo-jin and Je-ha.
I would like them to stay like this without romantic nonsense. It would be a waste if she falls for him especially because it still seems like her husband's indifference hurts her, I would like the show to explore what happened to their relationship it seems like they did love each other at one point and what's driving her to go so far for power.
But if she falls in love with Je-ha that's gonna be so cliche. They have such complex characters Yoo-jin as i've explained, her husband and je-ha then there's Anna too she was locked away since she was 9 years old and also potentially witnesses her mom's murder and her father abandoning her so it's natural she is suffering from all these issues. She's gonna need support to overcome all of that right now there is not one person on her side not even her father.
They need to explore these characters not cliche romance entanglements
Also she is on a moral high ground right now. I know they are both using each other for power but she is not a cheating liar like he is.
Yes this is a action drama but can we get on track with the story.
And I read somewhere (not sure where) that they should focus on Je-ha since he is the titular character K2 and all I have to say is this story is about 4 characters and Je-ha will link the other 3.
I mean you can't tell a story with only 1 person (or maybe you can e.g he can fall in love with himself, kiss himself in the mirror, think hoe awesome he is, be his own enemy, side kick, he can also be the director and producer and music director etc that should be interesting though I wouldn't be watching no matter how pretty/handsome/manly/hot whatever a main lead is LOL)

I agree most kdramas have love stories and I like watching them too.
But K2 seems like character driven story and I like Yoo-jin as an antagonist, it's like nothing will shake her (but she still seems affected interestingly enough) and I want to understand what made who she is now. Seems like she knows what she wants in life and made choices based on that.
I want to know if she will ever regret her choices (and please no regret because she suddenly falls in love, although it seems like she did love or still loves her husband).
How do you atone for a crime of locking a 9 year old for for years and murdering that same child's mother or blackmailing her husband and other people in the name of power, I am interested in her rationalization.
Je-Ha and Anna needs support and friendship and if they fall in love so be it. I can't explain it properly but if she were to change or regret anything I want it to be her decision because she realizes what she is doing or did was wrong not because she suddenly falls in love.
I guess I am becoming interested in her character and the actress portraying it with such complexity. But I do see why people are hoping for Yoo-jin and Jeha couple.
But Honesty why do all female-male characters in Kdramas have to fall in love (hello second lead syndrome) when there are so many different, varied relationship in life.

I actually don't mind the romance between Je-ha and Anna. Honestly that CCTV scene at the end was my favorite, for Je-ha who only saw a sacred and terrified Anna- it was cute to see her happy about something as small as ramyon.
But I don't want any romantic relationship between Je-ha and Yoojin because I find her characters very interesting.
She has done so much made so many choices and I am interested in the rationale behind those choices.
Even if she were to change or regret anything i want her to come to those realizations herself not because she feel in love.
But really How do you atone for locking a 9 year old, alone separated from her only family for years just a means to control her husband, she might also have murdered her mother, blackmailing her husband and other people in the name of more power.
I mean why do all male-female characters in kdrama have to fall in love (hello second lead syndrome), there is more than one type of relationship in life.

I agree with you. While the story develops too slow, the progression of Jeha's feeling for Anna seems to be too fast for me. I can understand if he feels pity or sorry for him, but to be that interested in her every single action is just to far-fetched. He has seemed to be nonchalant to most of the things around him so far, and then he suddenly became so curious about everything Anna did. "What is she looking for?", "is she looking for a bowl?", "Is she looking for something to eat?". No, he was not watching a reality show or a drama, he was just doing his job and watching a CCTV footage.

JeHa should be very aware how vulnerable Anna is actually. Out of everybody, he is the one who read how anxious she was to get away from the bad guys.
Now she is in Korean, again isolated and lonely.
He seems to be a very good reader of people's predicaments and always helps people even if he can't stand them on the surface, Yoo-jin, or like if he doesn't feel like helping, when he was already battered in Spain, he still eventually helped Anna out.
Now it looks like Anna is through with asking people for help;
1) when she asks him to help her in Spain and
2) when she asks him to shoot Yoo-jin in Korea.
She will settle for the happiness life has to give even if it's a basic ramyeon dish.

Yes! JCW can make the attraction believable with any of the girls. I feel the story is a too crowded of possible love interests and they should make 2 dramas instead: bodyguard meets tormented 1st lady candidate or bodyguard meets damaged young girl. Not sure which one I would like to watch, probably the first one would be more passionate and thrilling but only the second one would have a traditional happy ending...
Anyway, I will watch whatever they make of the story, only to enjoy JCW's gorgeousness :)

Agree to the tonal shift but I guess they needed to balance the action with humor. It was a bit misplace but you can enjoy it. I am increasingly becoming annoyed with Anna's father. I despise Yoo Jin but Anna's father is worse. He actually enjoys his powers, the corruption and he knows doing something to secure Anna means losing all of that hence he doesn't.

I'm also becoming more annoyed with Anna's father. It just seems stupid and unrealistic for him to be surrounding himself with women when he is a presidential candidate. What if people see him and spread rumors?
I'm a little worried about this drama. It's got potential with really good actors and great visuals, but I'm starting to see problems with the directing and writing.

I honestly thought that he wants to hurt Yoo Jin but now it feels like he actually like his hedonistic lifestyle. Anna is in for some shock, she thinks her father wants her, I doubt it.

That whole "new woman every night" plot thing is just stupid. With 4 bazillion paparazzi in Korea, not one has caught onto that total farce yet. Yeah, that is believable.
But on the other hand we all know that any rich slime bucket in Korea can just stop the internet with a single command because Koreans don't have access to places like YouTube, Facebook, Twitter... Oh.. wait...

We have to agree that K2 is based on a korea where there exists no such thing as dispatch and you can smuggle a healthy girl over an entire ocean without any transit by saying things like she is a bit too drunk.

I think he wants to outed himself and at the same time give Yoo jin the tasked to clean,
it liked he did it cause she/yoo jin needs to do the clean up for that since she really eager to make him the president,
so it like a petty revenge, can't do big one but just keep make her do things for him

At the end of episode 3 I already knew the elevator shootout was a fantasy. He already shot five guards before he pointed at the head bad guy, and those snub-nose revolvers hold five shots. Would totally spoil his tough-guy image if he forgot that and went "click".

Most revolvers do hold 6 shots, but those little ones like used in many k-dramas are 5. But I dunno why k-dramas get gun scenes so wrong so often - it is almost universal military service there, so you would think that most have some idea of how guns actually work.

Whoo! It has been a while since i have been this excited for the next episode of a drama! Also, totally predicted the "bromance" between Je-Ha and the other night guard from the moment they met in episode 1. Hopefully he becomes a loyal friend. Loved LOVED the CCTV scene...and um I am OBVIIIIOUSLY too mature to get excited by the shower scene. OBVIOUSLY!

Yeah, that 180 degree turn from "Yah, imma, did you just speak to me in banmal!!" to "Yes, do you take sugar in your coffee, sunbae" puppy dog was too cute!!
Now that they've had their fight out (it may still take a few more), I hope he realises what an awesome sunbae Je-ha is! Je-ha needs some bromance in his life - all the women around him are too scary!

I found this episode rather disjointed. Frankly speaking Yoojin was a big highlight in this one once again, because we saw her being the calculating manipulator as we've already seen from her, but we also saw her being vulnerable riding back home without her husband and having to watch him flirt around. I agree that some of the comedy was introduced awkwardly and clumsily to really hit the funny bone the right way.
Still not sold on the romance perhaps because I was in this for the action and wasn’t really looking for it. But hopefully they'll make it more convincing.

Totally agree. Yoojin's scenes were the best and it helped the Song Yoonah is doing an awesome job. It almost seems like a different director came in to do the comedy scenes. They felt totally out of place for me. There are certain parts of cctv scene that I liked, but I thought it went on for too long.

Because in k-dramaland every place has CCTV, no matter how little sense it makes. What I found disjointed is how in the previous scenes where they were explaining that they use only thermal cameras to keep track of the girl for privacy reasons, they had full fledged HD in the men's bath room...

Naked fighting scene, ramyun CF scene.. the director clearly doesn't understand what the right amount of time for each scene.. Even the previous car chase felt a bit long. Not that the scenes themselves are bad.. but it's just the direction and the time feel longer than necessary.
Nonetheless, one can't complain when you are able to see Ji Chang Wook's abs in EVERY. FREAKING. EPISODE!
And he's now way Hotter and Sexier than ever!

I'm really uncomfortable with the Mi-ran/Housekeeper comedic duo and I wonder if that's the director's intention. It's unsettling seeing Mi-ran lazing around the house and chasing after cute boys because she and the housekeeper are complicit in keeping Anna imprisoned, lonely and neglected. Their completely light-hearted joking behaviour is disturbing, because we've seen Mi-ran drug Anna to get her on a plane and it's crazy that stuff like that doesn't perturb her let alone weigh on her conscience.

The interesting thing there is, its their job so they have got to figure out a way to make things normal for them. Their job description isn't exactly legal or open. It is hard to accept for us viewers but for them, its their natural work environment and they have figured out a way to make things easy going for them.

Urggg... I don't know. Somehow the feel is not there. I enjoyed many scene separately, but when they were put together, I just find them really disjointed and incoherent. The progression seems a bit off as well.
I was cringing and laughing awkwardly watching the shower scene. I was like "Oh God, this must be the shower scene of all years!", and find it a bit amusing. I appreciated the writer and director's effort to make the shower scene fit well into the story (actually better than most other shower scene), but I still couldn't help but find it... urggg. I don't know...
Same feeling about the scene where Yoona was too happy after finding the ramen. I mean... I understand why she was so happy, but to be THAT happy is just weird... something that I would only see in a CF... Can't they be more subtle?
Talking about subtlety, while Song Yoon Ah and Ji Chang Wook's acting is nothing short of subtlety, the writing and directing is anything but subtle. Does the car chase scene in Ep 3, the shower scene or the ramen scene needs to be that long? Does Je Ha needs to talk so much while watching Anna struggled with cooking ramen? JCW could act much better with just his eye and facial expression, why give him so much lines all of a sudden? Talking to himself while watching a CCTV footage is so out of his character urgggghhh. I keep imagining the CCTV scene with much less talking, and more of JCW's facial expression..
I am sorry, I know I shouldn't compare two drama, but this drama's writing makes me appreciate Song Jina's writing in Healer so much more! Not only she balanced so well between the heavy and light tone, but she also showed deep trust in her character by giving them more chance to show their ability to act through facial expression rather than just through monologue. Maybe I should go to watch JCW's knowing smile at the end of Healer Ep 5 again.

The CCTV scene at the end has me feeling so awkward, cause how could a hardened special ops guy turn 180 for just that moment. I generally support the writer, but not fond of his tropes of instalove and imprisoned heroines.
Yoona could be playing him though. He has written a calculating and ambitious woman beneath the helpless exterior before.

I agree-- the way she looked almost tauntingly at the camera moments before doing the OTT dance of joy seemed really suspicious. I think she was playing him. That blob in the thermal image of her room did not look like a person (unlike the clearly person-shaped blobs we saw in the other two thermal images). I assumed it was Anna's shadow on the roof he saw, and that she was either trying to escape again, or wanted a confrontation with him. But what do I know.

I really need a proper heroine
October 3, 2016 at 1:45 PM
I have the same thinking that thermal image under Anna's blanket doesn't look normal. I really hope it would be Anna's shadow on the roof trying to escape or to get away temporarily (out at night, and come back by dawn) to find solution to her situation. I just can't stand a heroine just pathetically crying in her room and a literal damsel in distress constantly need to be saved.
Oh, the dancing with the ramyun is sooooo stupid.
