Yes! W and 38 are my crack. Thank the lord W's got most of its run ahead of it because 38 is ending in two weeks. LJS and SIG are basically killing me with their acting chops and attractiveness. And I love how smart the two shows are! You just can't predict anything but everything makes sense once it's revealed.

W has my mind going round and round. I can hardly bring myself to think of anything else. Most days, I do as much work as possible to distract myself from thinking of W. And good god, early morning Wednesday/Thursdays are the worst. All I do is check Soompi for spoiler pics.

Is anyone else feeling this way? I feel like I'm going insane.

I know what you mean. I wonder if in between all those snazzy visuals they put in subliminal messages: "You will become obsessed with W; you will not think of any other dramas; you will check the Internet at every free moment for pics and spoilers, etc, etc." I actually started going to the Korean ratings sites to check and see how it was doing. What really worries me now is what will happen after it is over. Will I need to check in somewhere to handle the withdrawal symptoms?

We could go to therapy together. And then we can hop onto the August dramas' bandwagons. The withdrawal would hurt the first few weeks, but it'll be replaced by a newer and shinier drama.

OMG, me too.

It's the first time for me to watch every episode raw, just because I can't wait for the sub tomorrow.

Literally my schedule was watch the raw, watch again with sub. Read recap and read hundreds comment for theory analysis while making my own analysis in my head and pushing my friends to watch so we can fangirling it together

... I'm officially obsessed.

So hooked on W! This show is everything and after I watch it, I can't focus on a thing which is why I'm glad the recaps for it come super fast on Dramabeans!

It's like nothing else exists outside of this show and I can't bring myself to watch any of my other shows after it. So I have to force myself to watch it last.

0

I'm the same with nit wanting to watch anything after it. PU38 is the only one that comes anywhere close and that's getting angsty. So W ends my night now.

I don't even know how to participate in the episode recaps. My mind is running in hundred directions and have tons of theories. I can't coherently phrase my thoughts.

Brilliant, brilliant, brilliant writing. (and a shoutout to the fab artwork)

But as much as i want the next episode NOW, i'm glad i'm watching it live. Bec if i was marathoning through, i would have missed a lot of detailing, just in excitement to watch ahead and know whats next.

I don't know about DB but I'm throwing in the towel, still haven't made it past the first page. lol
I'm watching too many shows and they're all being recapped, I'd love to read everyone's thoughts on W but to do that I'd need to go into the manhwa, spend a day there reading all comments from 4 episodes, then come back and only 30 minutes have passed. XD

0

I wonder what the peak comments will be. Healer is pretty high up there. Will W surpass it? Time will tell.

@angieya I'll probably just skim through ep 3 comments. And spend more time on 4. Always looking for quiet things to do while my children are sleeping. I ? the comment about spending time in the manhwa and having 30 minutes pass in our world ? if only.

0

We are, for now.

But that comment count growth rate... it scares me. O___O I just hate it when I find a spoiler or troll late and a fight already broke out because of it :(

0

@mary well I can promise I never troll. I'll try not to spoil. I'm always behind anyway kekeke. Hope that gives you some comfort.

Happy Friday Beanies! Hope the week was good for all!

I'm drowning in dramas and korean related stuff. I feel bad for my kid and husband but not bad enough to stop. Does that make me a bad mom? Lol.

My crack is Beautiful Mind and W! Awesome cracktastic stuff. Fallen behind on Squad 38 and Doctors but will somehow find time, maybe when BM ends and I'm done mourning.

Kang Chul in W gave an idea for a question:
Which drama character(s) would you love to be able to "come to life" and confront the drama writer about a crazy plot event?

Mine is currently Beautiful Gong Shim's Dantae over that stupid 1 year time jump without any contact. And Gong Shim for having to standing on the road in the path of traffic. Twice. And maybe Jinsu for making him possibly end up with Gong Mi. ? I loved the show but it could have been ended so much better.

So Beanies to you which characters deserve a chance to ask for a redo from their writers?

I feel you. ;-) So many good dramas right now...

What an interesting question! Hmm. I will think about it and get back to you! Right now I can't think of a case where it was one specific event / bad writing choice that tipped the plot - most of the time I find it's a pervasive fog of small-ish bad decisions and dumb/crazy events. ;-)

Since I have no power to force actors to confront stupid writing, I use what power I do have, and make pretend actors (in toon form) fix ridiculous K-Drama plots and writing. At least half the toons I've drawn have been "plot corrections." (K-Dramas I either was hoping would be good--and weren't, ie.) Diary of a Night Watchmen--or dramas that started out well, but fizzled ie.) Cheese in the Trap--or dramas that were good until the LAST freakin' episode ie) Beautiful Gong Shim.

Lord of the Dramas is still a favorite, because it explains PPL (orange juice--or is it soda? in a fight/death scene) and drama writing. But even Lord of the Dramas gave him that (spoiler alert) huge problem in the last couple of episodes, that was unnecessary and cliche. You asked, "Which drama character(s) would you love to be able to 'come to life' and confront the drama writer about a crazy plot event?" I'd ask, which characters actually got a well crafted, well written, well thought out drama to act in? Not many. (Signal? History of a Salaryman? Healer, maybe?) Not too many.

Urgh I'm still salty about that KoD ending, it was a perfect show until that two episodes extension. It was such a nonsense that I think the writer wanted to give the broadcasting channel the finger for having to write an extension therefore just went complete makjang lol. Anthony wouldn't have approved of this bullcrap.

I'm probably one of the very few people who didn't like the change of focus in the later half of History of a Salaryman which turned into a one woman show (even though Kim Seo-hyung is awesome).

Junghwan from Reply 1988.

1. Why spend so much time on showing him emo/worrying about Deoksun and give him so many scenes with sexual tensions with her in the earlier eps if he is not getting the girl.

2. Wouldn't hurt to spend a few seconds to let Deoksun acknowledged Junghwan feelings and give him a definite reply after he confessed since she knows that it is not a joke and he meant it.

3. Let him end up with someone else at least? As a viewer, all I asked for is a happy ending.

AM 1994 pretty much ruins me so I don't want to get invested anymore, the length every ep is too much and I kinda familiar with the trope.
So if they make other reply series, I may just watch it casually and not taking it too far.

I get the feeling towards R88. I started it live but the length bothered me. I disliked how R97 and R94 kept growing too. I finished R88 about 2 months after it ended.

I honestly didn't have a ship in mind for the end. I mean I know who I would choose but I wasn't invested in DS's actual choice.

They would have to do something very different to have my full interest again, which was lost at the New Year's kiss in R94

Happy friday, fellow kdrama addicts! I hope you're having better weather than I, and that you have a relaxing weekend to look forward to.

I'm so behind in my drama-watching that I don't really dare comment in the recaps, but this is what I'm watching!

I have only watched 4 eps of Uncontrollably Fond so far, but I love it. And I just have to say this: He isn't really going to die at the end, is he? Is he?? Argh.

I'm also watching and loving Beautiful Gong Shim, though right now I'm taking a break from it because Dan Tae has just begun to wrongfully suspect his brother, and I just can't. I loved their bromance so much. Soooo sad. :-/

Not sad, on the other hand: Minah! She is so amazing as Gong Shim. I know her casting was controversial, but this drama is the first thing I've seen her in, and I really think she's an amazing actress who has made the part entirely her own.

Will definitely go back to watch the rest, though, because I love the characters (though I suspect I'm actually meant to like the grandmother far more than I do, and Gong Mi needs to go down hard).

Another Oh Hae Young - I'm watching that also, and loving it, and I'm also loving how they're avoiding making the second female lead (and the heroine's rival) the nasty bitch, and are instead exploring her life and her very real problems, too. At this point I feel truly sorry for her, and hope she will find her own happiness.

Also: Erik. So pretty. OMG.

The Good Wife - so awesome.

Jackpot - sadly, I had to give up on this, despite the fact that I really really wanted to watch Jang Geun-seok actually act again (as opposed to just being pretty), and that I really wanted to enjoy the drama. It just didn't work out. I hope JGS gets back from the army with greater drama-picking luck, because he really is an amazing actor. Sigh.

Mirror of the Witch - watched the first ep and didn't really have an opinion on it either way. I keep meaning to pick it up again, but there is so much to watch!

Bring it on, Ghost - watched the first ep and thought it was funny and potentially sweet, and will definitely watch it... when I find the time. Yikes.

W - Two Worlds - I am looking forward to this so much, it sounds brilliantly strange. But who will put all the hours I need into my day???

At any other time I'd want to check out some other dramas, too - like Wanted, mainly for Uhm Tae-Wong. But for whatever reason, TPTB have decided to just flood interesting dramas all over the place lately. I'm not complaining! It's just going to make me late to a lot of drama discussions. ;-)

Yeah, I am sure I'm going to love W! I guess it has serious advantages not watching it right away, but only once I've actually managed to finish some of the dramas I've already been unable to watch while they were actually airing. At least I won't be tearing out my hair! Losing sleep binge-watching, maybe. :-) :-)

Alex-

I completely agree with you regarding your comments about Beautiful Gong-shim. I was also quite surprised with Minah's acting. She proved she can do quirky and unpretentious. ...... Regarding the sister, don't even get me started on her!

I also dropped Jackpot after about six eps. I gave it a chance, but oh well.

Yes, Minah's firmly established herself as an actress who will make me more likely to watch a drama now. I'd love to see more of her.

Jackpot... it's such a shame because of the wasted potential. They had great actors (with one notable exception), evidently a good budget, and even if the idea was weird, it could theoretically have worked out in an interesting way.

But instead, it was just a painful mess.

Required fields are marked *

Same here. I put off watching it for a bit, and then for a bit longer, and longer still... and then finally admitted to myself that I just didn't want to pick it up again.

But I must caution you against Beautiful Man. I really feel it's my duty as a fellow JGS fan. You don't have to go through that, Purple Owl! Watch Itaewon Homicide again, or You're Beautiful, or even Beethoven Virus or Hong Gil-dong.

No Beautiful Man then. Thanks for the warning. I watched the first episode a couple weeks into the airing time and figure I'd save it for his service. I haven't finished Beethoven's Virus though. He looked great, the story was just confusing at the time. Rewatching YAB sounds like a good idea.

Does anyone know when JGS is leaving?

Required fields are marked *

Full confession: I didn't finish Beautiful Man, so there's always the chance that it somehow managed to become a decent drama at some point. It's not *likely*, but it is possible. Uhm.

I don't actually like Beethoven Virus as a drama, and agree with you that it's a confusing story with some very very odd plot choices. But I do really like JGS in it. :-)

(I honestly did not realize the main male lead in Beethoven Virus *was* the lead until about the halfway point of the drama; I thought he was just there to kick off the plot, and would be leaving at some point. Even once I had realized it, I still couldn't believe it. I basically just tried to ignore him.)

0

I doubt Beautiful Man gets better. Shame, because I like IU too.

Beethoven Virus was the first drama I ever dropped. I have to admit though, what you said about the main male lead made me curious and I'll eventually watch to find out now.

I just attended Yiruma’s concert this week. For the benefit of those who do not know who he is, he is a Korean composer-cum-pianist whose music has been frequently used in the earlier kdramas, the most popular one is probably “Kiss The Rain” in Summer Scent (staring Song Seung-heon & Son Ye-jin). By the way, he happened to be the brother-in-law of Kwon Sang-Woo’s wife.

At first I thought that Yiruma’s concert would be just a serious kind of recital, but it turned out that he was very warm and friendly, and had great rapport with the audience. He pleasantly surprised the audience by delivering a fantastic and memorable performance which exceeded expectation. He said he hoped that his music could heal, and he encouraged the audience to use his music as “painkillers”. So I’m spreading his message here by sharing one of his piano pieces which I love so much, hopefully, the soothing music will bring calm, peacefulness and relief to all the forlorn souls out there.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6QkB3K4ZIEI

It had been a very busy week for me at work, and I was also chasing 5 current kdramas simultaneously, which is insane and a first for me! And on top of everything else, I'm also speed reading one novel, BBJX, during commute and lunch break. I really feel entirely drained out now.

The dramas I’m currently watching are:

Beautiful Mind – I absolutely love this drama, it really makes me ponder about the philosophical stuff like conditioning of the human mind and collective conformance with societal norms, etc. Jang Hyuk’s portrayal of LYO is awesome, also thanks to the writer for creating such a character, the unabashed and composed matter-of-factly way LYO confessed his love to JS is ingenious. I hope that the disconnected Wi-fi will get reconnected again in the final week.

Doctors - Seriously, I don’t know why I’m still watching it

UF - I’m neither fan of KWB or Suzy, I’m watching it because I’m in the mood for a good melo which the writer LKH is promising, but I’m not getting much kick out of it, is it due to the cast or the script?

W-2W - I do not want to complain much, except that Kang Chul is too unworldly pretty, and Oh Yeon-Joo is a bit too coquettish for my liking, though I understand, this is supposed to be in the world of a mainstream manhwa in which girls are always dainty and sexy.

The Good Wife - I marathoned all 6 eps, I think it is definitely worth watching, there are lots of “girl power” on display here, not only from JDY’s Hye-kyung and also the sophisticated Nana. The only pity is Lee Won-keun is wasting his talent here assuming the role of a petty and pouty rookie with minimal screen time.

That’s all for today, nite nite. Have a good weekend all :)

Thank you for that link. I loved it and my nephew seemed to like it too.

I'm not much a fan of the Good Wife, original. But isn't LWG's role a great opportunity for a full fleshed character? Cary was my favorite from the few episodes I saw. I think the role will be good for his filmography.

I'm glad you love it. Just like our love for kdrama and jdorama, the love for great music has no boundary too, it touched my heart to hear a caucasian street artist playing Yiruma's Kiss The Rain on her violin when I least expected it. He is like the all-in-one Kevin Kern, Yanni and Jim Brickman of Korea.

Compared to his roles in Sassy Go Go, and Wild Chives and Soybean Soup, I think LWG's role is quite flat and not as likable in TGW. His overwhelming "flower boy" look is also off-putting too, I don't know why, the younger actors all look too unnaturally "pretty", I feel the same about LJS in W-2W too. Maybe I'm seeing too much of Jang Hyuk in BM, so my judgment of "manliness" has been skewed.

Yes, great music knows no bounds. It's cool when Asian entertainment admires Western artists like Beatles, Journey, the random Avril at the beginning of Doctors. It's cool to know what I grew up on reached around the world and affected people in similar circumstances to me.

I know the Asian music movement has started. Mainly pop *nothing against it J got me into K then M then C and now I'm falling into Th* I just hope that while pop music makes it introduction, alternatives are still shown. The only benefit Heartstrings had on my life was the fusion performance. More traditional and contemporary art meeting and cresting a new form. I hope that the Asian music movement will be as thorough as the Western has for quite some time. Globalization ftw!

I haven't seen WCSS but I have seen him as a lead in SGG. And a dongsaeng to his noona in Hyde, Jekyll, and Me. He had a and was cute to a T. But that character didn't get developed much.

I think it's parallel to Matt Czuchry's career. Matt had some credits to his name. Nut the biggest and best was Logan from GG. Smirky, quick witted, handsome, borderline devious Logan. Casting him as Cary give him an opportunity to show all the improvements on his previous traits and time to learn more. Now he's a semi household name, though people mix all three Matt, Logan, Cary together.

LWG after SGG was in the same place as Matt after GG. How to get out of school/dorm/younger adulthood. From what I've seen of the American it is a pretty good shift to proper young adulthood. I don't know how it's being handled in this remake, especially considering the limits they're under versus a 7 season show. I don't know how much the will flesh him out. All that I've seen, I still dislike Cary but the level is low enough that he was my favorite character in the series.

The biggest question I have is what is next? For both LWG and Matt. They will have worked with some of the bigger names in the industry. Where does that put them in casting? Especially LWG and kdrama genres.

@Purple Owl, thanks for leaving such a long reply. It is always exciting to hear from someone who share the love of music. :)

It's actually very difficult for Asian music to gain acceptance, at least in my part of the world, I've been trying to introduce Asian songs and drama to my mates but without much success. Well, probably the only exception being Jay Chou from Taiwan, surprisingly one of my workmates actually like some of his songs.

Imo, J-pop culture has always been leading the pop culture revolution in north Asia since the 70s. In the late 80s/90s, the music & movie scene in HK and to a lesser extent, Taiwan had flourished for a time, to be replaced by the rising k-pop hallyu after mid 2000s. While Japan has maintained its position more or less over the decades.

I'm sharing with you two of my favorite singers from HK:

1) Hacken Lee - I listened to his songs quite a lot during my teenage years, so he always has a special place in my heart. Though he is not a mega star, he could sing very well. This is his lesser known cantonese song, but its melody is so beautiful with the accompaniment of the chinese flute.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gIpfN3-GVNE&list=PLA3BB0686DFD502AB&index=129

2) Eason Chan - he is still quite well known in the chinese music scene currently. Here are two of his earlier mandarin songs:

Of course, not forgetting Jay Chou, here's a sample of his songs during his prime:

I hope you enjoy these songs!

Regarding Cary, I've not watched the original TGW, so I reckon you have good reasons liking him. Ok, I will be a bit more patient, who knows, probably LWG will deliver surprises in upcoming episodes.

@Pebble,

Thanks for that link to Yiruma's "Do You." So soothing and gorgeous... I happened across him on YouTube in the past month or so. Thanks for the reminder.

And here's one for you... a serendipitous recent discovery while looking for cello renditions of Pachelbel's "Canon in D." I nearly fell over when I saw it's gotten 13 million+ views.

Re: BEAUTIFUL MIND

Yes, in episode 11 I, too, loved how LYO's inability to feel embarrassed made for such a clinical statement of interest in Jin-Sung. But what really had me jumping up and down was how he admitted (1) to being afraid... and (2) that he was surprised that he did not hate this irrational, emotional side that has emerged. Only to be flattened by an ACME-brand anvil of doom courtesy of medical orthodoxy... Grrr.

whoa! ThePianoGuys, I have one of their earlier albums, the one withTitanium Pavane as the first track. Thanks for the link @PakalanaPikake, the music is so heartfelt soulful and mesmerizing, it makes me feel like god is there..

Yeah, LYO's matter-of-factly clinical way of love declaration and coming clean with JS about his new found feelings and fear was so awe inspiring! Being conditioned by his dad in such a regimental manner since young, it couldn't be blamed to be flattened by that anvil of doom after all. But it will be the more interesting in the final week when the tide turns..

Got some things figured out this week. And my nephew is all smiles. When he's not upset that is.

I'm trying to decide between WWAW and Ratings for my Korean drama updates. Where do you all think they should go?

Korean:

Jackpot – dropped after ep 4
Pucca – paused S 2 ep 8 *I'll use it again when I need to clean*

Japanese:

Nodame Cantabile – next ep 6 S & A Orchestra did an amazing job at the school fair. Look forward to Nodame spiraling into a piano obsession to catch up to Chiaki.
Haven’t You Heard, I’m Sakamoto – completed ?
Love Live Sunshine – next ep 4 I love the group slowly gathering together and Chika's refusal to give up on her dreams. I need some of that.
Itazura na Kiss (1996) – next ep 4 I like Yuki & Naoki.
Orange - next ep 3 yay! My ship sails unhindered. Sawa/Naho for life.

Western:

Girl Meets World – next S 3 ep 8 okay what was up with Yogi/Darby? Disney why you let them do whatever and then short change on Lucaya?
Mako Mermaids – done *my best friend finished so I had to finish as well*

Reading: Leap Year by Wendy Mass - about a leaper girl on her 16th birthday. The 4th February 29th that she has seen. It flips between her perspective and her family/friends. People do not think the same way. And everyone has secrets! Secrets that could change everything. Read 100 pages last night.

My list looks so short now. But that's fine because it's just broke up into 2. And I'll be adding some other countries next week when I catch up with my kdramas.

Question: who was your first male/female acting bias?
Woo Bin aka Woob aka Woobrows aka the person my fan email is named after *blush*
Gong Hyo Jin - she was everything I wanted to be talented, attractive, 5'8" jk *no seriously*

I hope this Friday is a nicer day for everyone. And the beginning of a good weekend! Sarang ?

I wasn't completely won over by the 1996 but then at the beginning of ep 3 Yuki got me. And then by the end Naoki got me. Those Irie boys, lol.

The first thing I judge each version of INK by is Yuki. He's a difficult character to me, because the children actors have to make him bratty but lovable, sassy but kind-hearted.

Irie Naoki is pretty great. I haven't read the manga yet. But I really look forward to it. I just looked up Kashiwabara. He's cute. YouTube and grainy 90s doesn't do him justice. I'll have to watch something else with him.

I don't know if you're only a fan of one version or all of them. But last week in OT we discovered there's going to be a new Taiwanese remake. Made me super excited.

Female: Shin Mina. I first saw her in The Naked Kitchen and it was instant girl crush, she reminded me of a Korean version of Amélie. Those dimples are my kryptonite. And of course I was over the moon when she paired up with oppa!

First male acting bias: Cha Seung-won in The City Hall. And he still has never disappointed me. He manages to transcend even questionable material because he's a wonderful actor with an incredible range. He can do comedy and drama, he can be the hero and be the villain. And he is the only actor I don't have a problem with in this trend towards extreme and unhealthy looking emaciation among male actors. He's too thin but he's still perfect!

First female acting bias: Kim Sun-ah also in The City Hall although I have been disappointed in some of her roles, she and CSW both epitomize the glories of mature romance between two people who both have a lot of baggage and yet manage to find love while maintaining their essential selves.

++++++ Cha Seung-Won! For me it was in Greatest Love. One of my first dramas, and I didn't find him attractive at first, but I was in love by the end of the series. He's more age appropriate for me too, so I can allow myself to gush.

Kim Sun-ah, on the other hand, isn't my fave female. Shallow as this might seem, I don't like how her lips turn down at the corners. She always looks a bit mean to me.

so it's weekend again.
I really like W-Two World for what they done, sure you can find its flaw in many layer but the world building is just amazing. It make me want to changed my fixed usernma to W-Sancheezy or SancheeWy....

On top of all, I like their musical pieces a lot. Kdrama over the time has the best soundtrack list than any drama genre I ever watch, but they often play the OST to describe the scene, like saranghae or I love you to indicate romantic approached and cute song for silly antics , they give the word which may loose its meaning when its overplayed. I really hope they can adapt some of Jdrama music aspect since imo, Jdrama done it better. Have instrumental in the ep but used OST for opening and ending. Sometimes they played the OST but on fitting moment.

Then W comes and did it!!. I love their instrumental. They give a layer and nuance to the emotion showed. It gived momentum and feeling for the moment they want to conveyed , the best part is it's work really well.
I noticed it when they had those talking in the jail with long paused. The music played slowly and the actors didn't mute, the music enhanced their facial expression, the slight nervous in the lips, the worried gaze, the glances and all micro movement.
okay maybe this look like it's all about W but I didn't watch many drama this week and that aspect of W grab me in.

The good wife, when the ship already have all the crew and captain but the storm never end so the legal aid can't give them permission to sail. Why? Just Why? Leave the uninhabitand island and leave.

yeah love the good wife for each main character arc so far. I wished I could write someone off. .but I just watch W, which make me feel wronged to the character.
Can't wait to see the K version of Eli Gold, he is gold!

W reminds me if Nakuna, Hara Chan, synopsis taken from dramawiki, (it's good )
Echizen-san is a timid, thirty-something single female who pours out her daily stress in a manga that she draws every day as a diary. The main character of her manga is Hara-chan, a man who rambles on about his complaints to his friends in an izakaya bar. Always regretting that he can never speak up for himself and taking the blame for everything — he is the projection of Ms. Echizen’s deepest feelings.
However, one day, Hara-chan's world begins to shake, and he learns "God up above is angry”... In a magical warp, Hara-chan finds himself taken out of his two dimensional world and into reality as a true man. Hara-chan ventures out to find “God” and happens to meet Echizen-san who is taken aback by Hara-chan, a strange man who suddenly appears before her. Will Echizen-san realize that he is indeed the person sketched in the pages of her daily manga and that she has manifested a man? What will be the fate of the two, when Hara-chan begins to fall in love with his so-called “God”...?

this Jdrama is comedy and fun, her life manifested and projected by her drawing and the character want to have a happy life, so they want to help her by climbing the stair to the real world.

so Kang chul can be a projection of his creator too

Nakuna, Hara-chan and W share a very basic idea (a manga/manhwa world and a real world with the comic creator intersecting), but there is not much similarity beyond that – the characters and tone & mood are vastly different, never mind that Nakuna, Hara-chan is about very ordinary life and people, while W has gone the usual way of where everything is some extreme (a genius shooter who somehow is a gazillionaire...).

I like the basic premise of W and the questions it raises with all the meta; I'm less fond of the extremes because I'm so bored of having yet another gazillionaire in an unbelievably huge apartment (in a hotel at that) showering the heroine with luxurious gifts... I confess I also find our heroine a wee bit boring (and don't dig the overacting, though I realise she's being directed to act like that).

Still, it's a good drama – the mystery and the meta is keeping me watching for now.

Required fields are marked *

But the gazillionaire is the meta! That's part of the trope the drama is having fun with. Kang Chul's first sight of the real world isclean laundry on a dirty rooftop. Real life.

As for the OTP in W, 're perfect. The main heroine ecomes the mean manipulative 2nd-lead. weirdly... I have hope for our OTP. Not sure why. Possibilities: If heroine permanently goes back to hero's world, she'll live through her entire life there, then after he dies she'll be back in her own world in like 3 years full of grief but still young.

If hero lives in her world... he'll be in the world of his creator and he'll be in vengeance murder mode. A problem since the worlds seem to be joined together by the desire to survive or to give up on life. Kang Chul lived when his creator was struggling to live without his wife and daughter. Heroine wanted to live and so had to tell Kang Chul the truth. (Dangnabbit Oedipu, do not ask so many questions.) Then Kang Chul lived again when his creator's daughter saved him. So the desire to live affects both worlds.

When Kang Chul goes back to his own world, will he give agency to the people there -- if the world still exists-- so the world doesn't revolve around him. I mean, it's great having all that money and being a big shot and all, but if everyone exists to be Wish-Fulfillment friend, wannabe girlfriend, nemesis, without lives of their own it gets old pretty quick. I wonder what the compromise between the Creator and his creature will be. And if Creator is ever going to be willing to create a world for his daughter to live in. I'm thinking there might be a third world where Kang Chul and heroine can live in.

Unless the ultimate survival is sacrifice and our OTP part for the greater good of family, their mutual worlds, cosmic order etc.

It might be meta, but I'm just so tired of gazillionaires and geniuses and all that.

The OTP is okay for me. I don't love them, but they're fine (I don't get why people are swooning about those non-kisses though???). Although if anyone brings up the topic of "She is/n't beautiful" one more time I'm going to scream (another thing that I'm very tired of when obviously everyone they've cast has model-like looks).

I'm holding out hope that there'll be something interesting (unconventional) in the ending, since given we've got one fictional and one real person, they can't really have a traditional happy ever after. I want the drama makers to be daring... (though I'm not sure they will be).

0

I know. I'm really loving that they don't trust each other yet. It kinda makes me all sorts of happy inside because here we have an OTP that cares about each other but totally doesn't know what the other will do next. I can't wait until they team up! And I agree that the gazillionaire is the meta. Aagh! It makes me feel like I'm reading a webtoon and watching a drama at the same time, and it's tripping me up big time.

0

I guess I'm coming at this drama from the perspective of what a creator owes to his creation versus what he owes to the people in his real life. Oh Sung-moo and his creation, Chul, versus Oh Sung-moo and his wife and daughter. There were obviously big issues in the Oh marriage and most likely these issues dealt with money and W's lack of success. This drama is ringing a lot of bells for me. My husband is a writer. He's successful now and our family leads a very nice life because of his creative mind. But it wasn't always so. He struggled and we were pretty broke with two very young sons. I worried a lot and had to work when I really wanted to be at home with my babies. We were very lucky in that we had big help from our families to paper over the financial cracks.

There were conflicts but I never asked him to quit because I knew he had to do this. Things changed when he made his first sale but what would have happened if he's just continued on without much in the way of success? At what point would I have said, enough is enough. At what point would he have said, I have a family so I need to get a job and forget about my talent and my need to create? Until Sung-moo loses control of the fictional Chul, it's almost as if W was reflecting these "Real Life", as in the equally fictional Oh world, tensions and conflicting perspectives. Who ultimately takes precedence, the creator in his real world or the creation in his fictional one? It really is kind of like Stephen King's Misery in a big way. The fact that Chul comes to life within his own fictional world reflects what everyone who creates or depends on a person who creates goes through. Who's more real: the character or the person?

0

Weird thing though is husband became successful manga writer after the divorce. Like..JUST after. So why didn't the two of them get back together? Because it might look as if his wife didn't trust him enough to endure with him? Because his wife didn't want to appear greedy ("I'm coming back, Yeobo because you have money now.")??

Lots of single folks in this drama. Mom, Dad, haven't found new people. Daughter has no boyfriend, hero manga guy has no girlfriend. Requited Love is on the backburner in this real and fantasized world. Why? Because other needs/obsessions demand first place?

My hubby is an artist. He had his moment of fame. He drew Iron Man (we got a nice chunk of change from the movie0 and he also worked on Suicide Squad back in the day -- so another royalty to come from the upcoming movie. Not being a comic book wife, I always wanted him to write his own manga from his heart. Now that we're older, maybe he can do his own comic books. I'm wondering how much of the Creator's heart is in this story. The only part of his heart seems to be the enduring lifeforce. Kang Chul represents the Creator's literal life versus death battle. I think. When Creator was losing hope and vaguely suicidal, hope and life forced itself on him and brought him success. But other than that Kang Chul may be a lot like him but I'm waiting to see how.

It might be the opposite though. Maybe Dad Creator has nothing in common with Kang Chul and was just slinging tragedy. Cause that's what manwha writers do. So many writers write without really thinking about the ramifications of what they're doing to the character. Maybe this writer never thought about human life and grief in as deep a way as he should have. He, like us, watches his entertainment but we don't really live their journey. I wonder if Dad even knows who murdered Kang Chul's parents. We've seen his research notes but nothing yet about his plot outline for the entire series. When did he give up writing the mystery? Has he lost his way in the story by now focusing on killing Kang Chul? Does his finishing the story and finding its true plot even matter? Where is the original plot thread outline?

0

Good questions and interesting how your husband is a creative artist as well. Does he write his own material now? We do have a unique perspective on the whole creative process, I guess. And congrats on the royalties. It's always great to see those cheques roll in for work done years ago.

I wrote on the W - Episode 4 comment thread that I wonder about the why of the murders of Chul's family. It seems that out of nowhere the plot takes a sudden very dark turn. Has Chul served as a kind of wish fulfilment to Sung-moo? Do the murders reflect the marital situation in Sung-moo's real life? Is his wife putting pressure on him to "kill" his creation and do something more lucrative? And is his response to kill Chul's family in fiction? What is actually being "killed" here that the fictional family serves as proxy?

We don't know very much about what is actually going on in Sun-moo's home life at the point in the story when the murders occur just what seems a reasonable assumption. And therefore we don't know why they don't reconcile after he becomes successful. But Yeon-joo is caught in the middle of everything with a father and mother she loves, a fictional world she enjoys and a character in the form of Chul she loves and who she wants to have a happy ending.

Yeon-joo is, in a sense, the classic child of divorce. She's even given up her own dream to be an artist to pursue medicine according to her mother's wishes and to relieve her mother's own insecurity about finances. Maybe because Sung-moo started to make money after the divorce, under Korean law covering community property she got nothing because she is still living with her sister. I don't know anything about this at all.

When Sung-moo first loses control of Chul, that is the point when Chul realizes he's lost the context to his life but it seems the context was lost when his family was murdered. Things are happening to him in a way that things happen to many fictional characters. It's just that now he senses that randomness and the lack of context while still not knowing until the end of episode 4 that he inhabits a fictional universe where there doesn't have to be a context. Like it seems he's suddenly a billionaire with the sketchiest of reasons. He's written to be a billionaire and so now he is. Does this make any sense?

0

Loding the connection to one's Creator and not being loved by him is serious spiritual meta. Let's see how far the writer takes us. I had a feeling the manga began with just the basics of his life and then suddenly the murder. Just enough to make us see that he's a super-genius and well-loved by his father and to lay the foundation of the murderer being an equally good shot. So I'm thinking the Creaetor started the story with the intention of making Chul find and avenge his family. Then when he got the divorce notice, he wanted to give up on his art because it was the art that had separated him from his family. So he figured he'd kill Kang Chul. But Chul survived, a cheap substitute for the family he had lost.

Yes, those royalty checks come in handy. Hubby does writre his own stories.

Re: Music for W, I read somewhere that it is the same sound team that did Signal. I love how the bgm for that drama captured the moments perfectly. Plus from what I remember, Nine and QIHM had great music that is in tune with the crucial moments of the drama.

... and now, I can't stop imagining this person as Do-kyung and how he carries his little recorder around, and how he starts barking at his minions to make the stabbing pen and gush of blood sound more real!

Hi bean buddies. My newest K-toon is up. Thanks to everyone who suggested stuff for my "How Beautiful Gong Shim SHOULD have ended" toon.
https://ktoonsbyfox.wordpress.com/2016/07/26/my-alternate-ending-for-beautiful-gong-shim/

And it's supposed to be published on Dramafever, too. Except I'm not getting paid any longer. (Grrr.) But we'll see if that happens.

Hello Wag_a_Muffin! ! I just finished reading your k-toon, it is so very hilarious, thanks for giving me a good hearty laugh! Butterfly uncle and his pink car, lol. Subway here, there and everywhere, are the yellow dotted sandwich supposed to be the subway honey oat bread, which is my favorite? :)

Yes. The dots on the sandwiches mean it's honey oat bread. (Drawing realistic buns is beyond my artistic ability.)

And it was published on Dramafever. My wild hope is that huge numbers of people say, "we love these toons! Why did you fire her?" but--alas, probably most people reading them don't realize I was let go. Still, I can dream.
Maybe I should draw a toon about a woman who draws toons and gets cancer and gets fired because she didn't do enough during her chemo? Nah. That's not funny at all.

The wig-do, the bald spot - haha, Wag_a_Muffin, such a better ending! I was thinking how I liked that the wig wasn't this big deal looks-wise in the kdrama, but then again, maybe it was? I liked that it didn't represent this ugly duckling to swan theme, although did it? Yes, and no, but in YOUR version, it all righted itself in the end.

Thanks, love your kdrama remake cartoon-ies!

I loved Gong Shim, it had a Pasta vibe that I appreciated.

Hi Everyone! ....... I hope you are all doing well today! ...... Around here, summer heat is unbearable!

Watched this week:

Lucky Romance - It's all about Ryu Jun-yeol and I've decided he makes my day!

Beautiful Gong-shim - Time to wrap things up!  Two more episodes left to watch. ....... By the way, this reminds me, that pic Dramabeans posted this week of Namgoong Min ----- nice.

Wanted - I've read complaints here and there about this, but it's convoluted, it's twisty, and that's what I love about it.

Doctors - You know, I watched two more episodes of this so this makes it a total of four episodes that I've watched but I'm finding myself more and more uninterested in this.  I think I may be dropping this. ....... It's too bad, really, because Kim Rae-won is always wonderful, but the more I watched the more I wondered why he accepted this project.

Uncontrollably Fond - Angst all over ..... but for whatever reason, I keep on watching.

That's all for now. ....... Everyone take care and have a great Friday!

Ekkk! That's my favorite part of the drama. Isn't he the cutest?! And when he actually smiles *swoon* R88 was his first hit and what put him on the map. I would recommend it just because there are 20 eps? And each ep is 1.5-2 hours in length. Long commitment. But RJY is worth it if you want. He's also in Producers but I'm not sure how much. He has been making a name for himself in movies. It's going to take me a while to get my hands on them. I really want to see Socialphobia and One Way Trip.

Yes! W after LR sounds perfect. Will you catch up and join the conversation?

I know what you mean about the "watch list". I have so many things on that list and my reading list that I still wouldn't finish if u never left the house. Shame. So little time, so much to do.

W - Two Worlds is just awesome with supeheros background Music. What is left in story Now? Going back to manhwa and story keep writing itself and everyone becomes independent of Author aka Artist. At the same time i feel this Sci-fi show is a bit Overhyped.

Beautiful Mind is food for brain and heart both.

38 Task Force - waiting for the biggest con with few Hiccups here and there and Writer need not to turn Jung Do into a Super-Hero with cliche tagline I-Planned-it-All.

Age of Youth - The roommates are annoying. Story feels weird at times. Watching it.

Uncontrollably Fond - An unaired show of 2005 Broadcast in 2016. I hope Hero Dies. For Once kill the hero. Killing hero makes the sense. That noise pollution from Su Ji and almost all female annoying characters. All male characters have bad deeds. I'm just watching it to enjoy the delicious tears of fans.

Let's Fight Ghost - Cheesy romance. Though i like it.

The Unusual Family - who's watching it?

Two of the young women in Age of Youth were the weekly guests on Abnormal Summit's most recent episode. The topic was that living with other people (in this case, as kdrama characters) is uncomfortable and it prompted discussion about other countries' typical scenarios for young adults and living arrangements. It was kind of fun.

I'm not that invested in the story, though. Not sure if I'll keep it up (although 12 eps, guess they're taking the cue from jdramas). It reminds me of the kdrama, Because It's the First Time.

I'm busy with too many shows too that i have stopped reading News since May. I used to spend 2-3 hours per day on newspapers but now all the time is spend on Recaps, comments and kdrama forums.

I think Age of Youth will pick some pace in Next few episodes and i usually like Jtbc's shows.

The less talked about UF the better. I have put it in same bracket as DOTS and Doctors.

@Owl In past few months i have seen real life owls 2-3 times. I like Birds-viewing. Seriously. After Cats i put much of my attention to mother nature. Birds, clouds, animals, plants, flowers

Thankfully I never lived with others except my own family. I'm sure i will nitpick a lot. Turnoff the lights. Keep mobile silent. Don't talk loud. Don't waste Electricity and water. Keep things neat and clean. Wash up your own clothes and do the dishes. Don't use my laptop or any other thing without my permission. Respect Privacy of each other. ETC.

As for 38 Task Force - I also think Sung IL has a plan but he can't do it alone and waiting for Jung Do for 2 years a big stretch. You are completely right about Jung-Do best at adapting to the circumstances but still all the cons have given the vibe that Jung-Do is all I-am-still-Controlling-the-Game

Spotting owls is exciting! I happened to be in Rocky Nat'l Park and there were a couple of people with spotting scopes - turned out there was a nest with a Great Horned Owl and two babies (that were surprisingly large) in a nest on a cliff. It was a delight to see. Unfortunately, the camera I took the pic with slipped out of my sweatshirt pocket and into the rushing river as I climbed onto a rock in the middle to sit on. My brother grabbed the camera downstream but, alas, it isn't working even with the rice trick. Ah well.

Hey CatoCat!

I think 38 TF has enough mystery around the Chairman that will reveal who is calling the shots. Although Jung Do is smart enough, like he said himself, conning is only as good as the one who can best adapt to the circumstances. And, at this point, Sung Il is the one who is adapting better - what does he have up his sleeve? Can't wait until the next ep!

Hello, all:

Not feeling well but holding up. Good news: One of my stories was included in an anthology by a University professor! That's the third of my stories to be in some teaching curriculum. Apparently I'm a writer of books that academics like. I gotta get me some popular fame.

Dramas:

W -- Oh my gosh! This is so much fun! It's got the fantastical element which is truly "speculative fiction" so we have the joy of puzzling out worldbuilding and story plot ramifications. Which makes it totally intellectually fun. But it also has one of the best OTPs ever! I usually hate aegyo, especially if it's done badly. But this heroine is so adorable! And the hero's cockiness and vulnerability is seriously attractive! So the story is emotional fun as well. And then there's the philosophical fun and questions about creativity.

As a writer, I'm always saying, "Character torture is my game." And I have put many of my characters through the wringer. (I'm mean like that.) I remember Madeleine L'Engle saying she thought we writers would meet our characters in heaven, even characters we love like Hamlet. Some of these characters are larger-than-life or "take on a life of their own" so who knows? As a viewer/reader of tortured characters I always like to see them endure and get their HEA but even so I understand that the writer has to have a personality that is simultaneously deeply emotional (and capable of creating painful emotional situations) but also very cold because the writer needs to manipulate the viewer's empathy while at the same time showing no empathy while we devastate a poor character.

What I so fun so far is that the story iss going along so quickly. Kang Chul is way farther along -- he is THAT smart!-- than he would be in other dramas. (Gosh, I love his intelligence!) And that means we have other twists and turns. The writer could go deeper and deeper into the speculative ramifications and world-building puzzle...or the writer could falter. I'm thinking we're in the hands of a master storyteller.

Flower in Prison -- Oh my gosh! I am so liking this world. It feels like I've been transported back to the past. The day to day life of Joseon is fun....and my ship has started to sail.

Squad 38 -- Wow, I love the turn this story took. Or rather, I'm glad it took a turn. Not glad about our sweetie avenger being back in prison. I am honestly intrigued, and wondering how things will turn out.

Let's fight, Ghost -- I like it. It's clunky direction and imperfect writing but it's a sweet fun uninvolving watch.

Wanted -- dear me! A drama that has overdone the suspenseful tension-filled twists and turns to the most fatiguing degree. You can't really "feel" anything in this drama. Not worry, fear, hate. There's no emotion to grab onto no matter how much Hyun Woo's mom cries. The kidnapped kid is the most macguffinest McGuffin ever! I wish they had caused us to love him before they kidnaped him. Even now,...

Regarding Wanted, you know, as convoluted as it is, I can't stop watching. ...... I've watched six eps so far and while I do find that everyone's emotions are a little bizarre, the whole "puzzle" aspect has me hooked.

Congratulations on your achievement! It must have felt really exciting to have your name imprinted in the literature of the academic world.

I don't feel as enthusiastic about W-2W as everyone here, reading your comments put me into perspective. I think it is the "aegyo" that puts me off, as I much prefer the heroine to be adorable in a different kind of way, like Park So-Dam in Because It's the First Time & Beautiful Mind . But this is a manhwa supposedly targeting male readers, like the City Hunter kind, so in this surreal manhwa world, the girls ought to be dainty and sexy.

Even with this said, I do appreciate it for the inventive element in its plot, and yes, I do look forward to see Kang Chul learning the truth of his existence, that would be mind boggling.

Well, I think I can still breathe. I made it through the night, so there's that at least. Functioning until next Wednesday will be a task I think I'll only manage with the new episodes of Let's Fight, Ghost to help me out.

Let's Fight Ghost: Ermagersh. Can they be any cuter?? Can the club get any more hilarious? Will our resident evil vet doctor man strike again? I'm on pins and needles until next week! (Not as much as I am for W, though. Have I fangirled enough to express how truly deep my love for that show is?)

My Girlfriend is a Gumiho: This is my third try to watch this drama. I think I'll love it once I get into it (and I'm definitely liking it more now than the first two times)--I just have one slight heartache: one is that they're not friends immediately. I love her so much and she knows so little about the world, I hate seeing him play nice-then-betrayal with her.

W2W: Heh. Heheh. Heheheh. Can I really love this show any more than I do? Did what just happened really just happen? How is he going to deal with it all? Will we get another kiss scene next week (because, y'know, there's been on in the first two and we wouldn't want to break a pattern... and third times the charm and all that--right? Science?) Well.

More coherently, I really love the clever things this writer does. If they start breaking out of their drama and into the real world I'll be a bit more freaked out, but no less happy. Can't wait for next week!

The Sunday Soup club is definitely cute. I like that actor, especially since High School Savvy King. And the actor who plays Big Bad Evil Spirit in Hottie Professor/Veterinarian is one I fell in love with in Angel's Revenge. Come to think of it I'm also liking the actor who plays Kang Chul's best friend/driver and he was in High School King as well. Lots of faves from that drama.

Thing is I'm wondering how the love story will turn out in Let's Fight. Unless, he dies or our ghost somehow I granted the chance to live in the body of a living human (some divine mercy) then we're only looking forward to a parting. A dearly departing. ;-)

One of the reasons I didn't want to watch Uncontrollably Fond was I didn't want a story with broken hearts/disease winning at the end.

Well, kdrama summer is about to end for me. I'm a teacher and the school year where I live starts August 1st. I'm excited about the new year (I always start excited, then I graduate another 12th grade and I get depressed) but I will miss many of my kdramas, since I will only be able to keep up with one per day.

Let's see. How do I choose?

Mon-Tues - Doctors, Monster, or Bring it On Ghost? Ghost for the win!

Wed-Thur - W or UF? Who I'm I kidding? W of course!

Friday - The Good Wife

Sat-Sun - Five Children or Flower in Prison (with The Good Wife on Saturday). I'm cheating on this one. Five Children fast forwarding to the Sang Min/Tae Min parts and double Flower in Prison on Sundays. All set!

All the Japanese dramas that I was watching will have to wait for a break to catch up except for Koe Koi (Voice Love). This one has very short episodes and it is a very sweet high school drama ( I teach HS, what do you expect?). My teenage daughter, who is into Japanese everything, loves it too, so will watch it together whenever it comes up.

Done and done.

Did anyone see the new Moon Lovers interview??

Because IU totally chose Ji Soo the puppy to the question 'if you are the lead pricess, which prince would you actually fall in love with' - and that marks the start of my new Second (3rd? 4th?) Lead syndrome.

Anyhow.. I couldn't stand watching a drama week by week (because I won't be able to work in this state of mind), so here are the dramas I recently finished.

Lucky romance: Tried 1st episode yesterday and overall, it reminds me so much of She Was Pretty which unfortunately I did not finish. The tone of the show, the zeze HQ, and obviously, the lead actress - all very much like a rendezvous to SWP.
However I found HJE toned down a lot of her overacting style (esp compare to her KMHM days) and I like the unique story, so I will watch some more.
And TBH, I might go all the way to last episode even just for.... Lee Soo Hyuk's voice.

Come back ahjussi: Lots of laugh in the first few episodes but I cannot stand Rain's screaming and over the top facial reaction. And urgh that voice-over, we are not 10 years old! Honey Lee is such a gem though. I remember her in Pasta to be very pretty but that's it, while here, she is awesome. She can be hillarious but she can also cry very convincingly. Her charms and the way she carries herself reminds me of Jeon Ji Hyun.

Oh Hae Young: Oh I love this PD and the casts. Whilst obviously the cracking chemistry seals the deal, without the beautiful cinematography and on-point storytelling, this show would not be as addicting and gut-wrencing as it is. I watch this as a whole (not week by week) and though I do get the complains that the plot runs a halt on the last 1/3 of the show, I still like it overall. I feel like the writer has the plot outlined already so it never feels like they are adding (too much) unnecessary events to prolong the time. At the end of the day, all questions are answered and we get more lovey dovey + funny antics from the other couples so all is well.
It may be imperfect but it reminds me what it feels to fall in love again. And needless to say, I very much adore the OTP, I watched Lets Eat 2 and Discovery of Love before and though the shows were good, I wasn't into the OTP that much (even though I love Yoon Do Joon). I guess Eric and Seo Hyun Jin really make each other shine.

Discovery of Romance: I watched this more than a year ago for Sung Joon and didn't finish it because that ship sort of sank halfway. I guess no one can't really get over an ex as hot as Eric. I didn't find him particularly handsome in OHY (I blame that boyband haircut and oversized shirt/trench coat) but rewatching DOR now, wow that man is SO damn fine. And even though I thought he was sometimes too stoic in OHY, after rewatching DOR, I realised that's how he wants to portray Park Do Kyung. He's actually quite good in a way that he doesn't remind me of PDK even though I watch these 2 dramas back to back. He may not be able to do...

Happy Friday! Glad it is weekend so that I have time to catch up (with just about everything). Do you need more dramas to watch? There was actually article with title 'A fruitful year with Well-mades- Korea is drama kingdom right now'. It talked about current flood of good dramas, and picked three as example (with desc.) - The Good Wife(Sexy remake as good as the original), Police Unit 38 (Isn't this movie? btw Seo In-gook got the new nickname Seo In-Good), and W (There is trusting 'Nine' writer Song Jae-jung).

Anyway, here is another one in case you need MORE.
SBS new weekend drama (after Gongshim) 'Second To Last Love' had the production press conference. [Xsports news, OSEN] It has great casts including Kim Hee-ae(Secret love affair), Ji Jin-hee(I have a lover), Kim Seul-gi(Splash" Love), and Kwak Si-yang(Mirror Witch).
About this show being remake of J-drama, writer Choi Yoon-jung said "I tried to manufacture the original, adding emotions unique to Korean." Ji Jin-hee added, "Original has calming atmosphere, and our drama renders pleasant atmosphere."

PD Choi Young-hoon said shooting has been going smoothly, "They say American Indians stop for a moment and look back when they run in the wide open fields. They check if their souls are following them well. I wanted to talk about having a break checking in the mid-point to reflect and look back ourselves to our generation who became grownups while we were running just looking straight forward." He also mentioned about KHA and JJH's image damaging acting, "Kim Hee-ae and Ji Jin-hee who have done mostly serious acting in their previous projects will show comical acting in this show. They are so funny that I wondered how they have lived hiding their comical instincts so far. I am happy they are showing this on the set. I will make this project enjoyable and meaningful."

Ji Jin-hee had an accident breaking his nose during shoots which postponed the first airing time by one week. "I met the character I am really satisfied with. I often think it will be nice if there are honest civil servants who work with common sense(Sang-sik in Korean) like the civil servant Go Sang-sik I play. The message the drama tries to convey is excellent. (About nose accident) It was a light accident my nose bone got broken a little- Bleeding like crazy, but it is ok. They put the bone back in the original place. If I sneeze hard, blood comes pouring out, but it is ok. I just have to hold the sneeze in."
He added "I thought it was fortunate that I had the accident earlier in the show. Even though I feel sorry, I really think it is fortunate. Maybe it fulfilled the share of all bad luck drama might have. I asked them if they can make my nose prettier, but they said it would turn into a serious surgery then, so even though I wanted using this accident as an excuse, it didn't work. If my nose gets broken in proper way next time, I am going to try it."

Kim Hee-ae compliments Ji, "I thought Ji Jin-hee ssi had very heavy/dark aura, but when I met him, I felt there could be no one more amusing than him. He is very cool actor. He got in big accident during shoots, but he wasn't bothered one bit and did shooting whole-heartedly" (She had the thumbs up toward him) Ji responded "As you can see, it was no big deal. Just my nose collapsed."

Kim said she had hard time filming, "'Second Last Love' contains a story relatable to all generations, so I think it is very attractive. I wouldn't have joined if this show only focused on the love story. Actually shooting is very difficult because there are many action scenes. I had such a hard time doing action scenes in my previous project 'Mrs.Cop' and I started acting casually because this project is romance comedy. Boy, was I shocked."

They had a kiss scene where Ji Jin-hee was trying to revive Kim Hee-ae who fell into river. Kim said "Since I have worked as an actress for a long time, (PD character she plays) career is no stranger to me. Watching leads in the drama kissing outside of the set, I said "You should do the acting like this", but I was able to do it real. I could shoot comfortably. I didn't feel anything because it was difficult situation." Ji said "After that, unfamiliar substance in her mouth splashed onto my face. It was refreshing." We did filming by the river, and there were many people fishing. I checked the stuff, and it had something like fishing bait.(Yak!) I wondered how great this drama would do when I am going through this much trouble."

Kim Seul-gi who plays JJH's youngest sister said "I hope my movie(Take Off/National Team 2) and drama do well. The biggest reason I chose this project was because of influence Kim Hee-ae and Ji Jin-hee sunbae had on me. I thought I could learn something since their acting are amazing. I am having good experience watching and learning sunbaenims' acting on the set."
Kwak Si-yang who plays the character who has crush on KHA said "If ratings go over 20%, I will invite the viewers and treat them with delicious food I make."

StLV fighting! It sounds fun already and I love all the casts!

On Joo-won who played 'rich but not bratty' Suk Joon-su in "Beautiful Gongshim" had an interview.
About Minah who played Gongshim, he said "Minah is very cheerful. At first I wondered if she had enough energy to lead a miniseries. Since she is playing the lead for the first time, I worried if she could keep going to the end without faltering. To attract the viewers during first parts of the drama, Minah role was the most important. She charmed the audience and it was more than what I expected. There was an event in the middle like Dan-tae's parents incidents. As Dan-tae and Joon-soo solved the problem, Gongshim was able to have a break, so I think all were mixed well. In the beginning Gongshim and the power of wig were great, I think. I like that the drama wrapped up better than I expected. Ratings is not everything, but ending with good score makes me feel I achieved something. Because Gongshim aired in not-favorable time frame in SBS and there were many who didn't have any expectation, it was so fun when it shocked people with good ratings and responses."

About the role he played he said, "When I read the synopsis, I didn't know I was portrayed as a good buy to the end. Around ep 14, 15, Joon-su said he will take side with his uncle. Reading the script I thought he was changing again. I thought writer must make him to stand opposite of (Namgoong) Min Hyung under the excuse to protect his mother. I was disappointed thinking "I should accept it" "I should just play it", but there was a twist in the next script. I was extremely happy."

OJW has thick? relationship with SBS. Starting with 'Punch', he did 'Village' and 'Gongshim' with SBS. Also he did a SBS variety show 'Shaolin Temple with clenched hand'. "It is not like I know chairman of SBS. Actually the rumor on how an actor behaves on the set spreads very fast. The reason I keep doing the shows in SBS could be because there is some rumor 'That actor is not bad' looking at the way I behave on the set? I also heard that I have a face SBS likes.(Huh??) I even think it could be true that there is actor image each station prefers which I heard when I was a newbie."

He played lead role of Jack Kelly in the musical 'Newsies' while doing GongShim. "I cried a lot on the last performance. I wondered if I've ever cried thinking finally I was leaving this stage, this screen doing acting. I cried when I finished movies 'Flying Boys' and 'The Five'. Just like that, once in a few years, there is a project which makes me stand right back up like roly-poly. Not exactly affection, but there is something hitting me emotionally."

On Joo-wan is dating Jo Bo-ah(currently in 'Monster') whom he met doing TVN drama 'Surplus princess' in 2014 (Ugh the cut!). "I was sorry we didn't have time to date. Fortunately she was working too. Jo came to see my musical Newsies. She watched my first, middle, and the final performance. She wanted to see more, but she had things to do. She likes musical. She had an influence on me choosing to do a musical. She wanted to see the actor On Joo-wan on the stage, so I decided. I don't think I am different. Once you are dating, you want to do what the other person likes. Woman gets to do things her boyfriend likes, and man does things to impress his girlfriend."

On his career, OJW said "If someone asked when I was young (in 20's) "Is there any acting/role you want to do?" I had many like a role in 'A Bittersweet Life' genre, or 'Conduct Zero'. But as I've kept working on projects, I think the color (of On Joo-won's acting) is kind of decided. The acting On Joo-wan can do well, or fits well is obvious to certain degree for PDs and the public. And the role I wanted to do became the role which found me."

He watched a popular movie 'Train to Busan' with his mother recently. "Because I had an interview, I went home last week and watched the late night movie with my mother. She didn't know it was zombie thriller film. She was so scared that I watched the movie holding her hands." He worked with Ma Dong-suk(PU38) of 'Train to Busan' in the movie 'The five'. "With Ma Dong-suk hyung, there is cuteness coming out from his big body. He played a role who loved his wife in 'The five', and he was also endearing in the movie Busan. The picture of him holding a cat named 'MaYomi(Ma+cute)' is the picture he took when he filmed the 'The Five'."

Awww How cute could he be, watching the movie holding mom's hands.

Thank you for this! good to know that cutiepie Junsu had a good time on BGS and they all were happy because the ratings were good! He sounds like he is such a sweetheart IRL, watching a late night movie with his mom and holding her hands too!

I'm really happy Beautiful Gong Shim got all that love and exceeded expectations - the SBS weekend time slot used to be where drama ratings go to die, so I thought before it aired that BGS would sink without a trace just like SBS' other weekend dramas over the last few years. I'm so glad it didn't, and that Namgoong Min and Minah made it a sleeper hit instead.

And that anecdote about OJW taking on musicals because his gf said he should, is so cute. She's a talented actress too, hope to see her in leads someday1

It seems that not many people watch 'Flower in Prison' but I enjoy the show. After all, it is by the writer and PD duo of people's drama 'Hu Joon'. Jin Se-yeon is still not too convincing as the female lead OkNyeo, but she looks trying hard. I will give her credit for that. And story is more interesting now, even though plot is not what I thought to be so far- about OkNyeo being civil defendant lawyer, but show still has many episodes left, so I have hope.

There was press conference for the drama[The fact, OSEN]. FIP has ratings close to 20%. Rating-wise the show was ahead of the recently finished drama "Beautiful Ghongshim" which aired in the same time slot, but making buzz-wise FIP was behind Gongshim. PD Lee said "Production team says they will keep going as planned, but once the show starts airing, it raises the question how to read the viewers' mind. I thought I could appeal with a refreshing story, but I didn't do as well as I expected. I tried to read the viewers' mind but it looks that they are different from what I thought. There are parts that I creatively prepared, but viewers didn't respond to it. There are people who comfort and cheer for me saying "Ratings is good considering the difficult situation." but I think it hasn't met the expectation." He has hopes though. "However The project hasn't ended yet and there are many dramas which change the situation in the later parts. I think if we keep moving toward what we targeted, one day the viewers' might respond (to our efforts) and it will reach the level of our expectation."

About the lead Jin Se-yeon, PD Lee said "She always smiles and acts well-mannered. I am extremely satisfied with her. Jin did her best. What she shows in the broadcast is her best. You can't satisfy all viewers. I think as 23 years old, her acting is excellent. I think she will keep improving." Jin showed tears and felt embarrassed saying she wondered why she got teared up. "PD-nim saying him trusts me in front of many people- I am so thankful. I will be OkNyeo working hard." While she was wiping her tears, Go Soo said "We have hard situation on the set for Se-yeon ssi. She has to memorize the lines, work on action scenes, doing long series, so it must be difficult for Jin Se-yeon. As a person who watches her by side, I feel sorry for her, but she endures and works hard. I think hearing PD talking nice about her, many emotions flooded in for her."

Go Soo said he is having fun filming. "Personally there were more things I wanted to do in the drama. I think I can show that in the later parts of drama. I went to the set everyday, yet didn't have many shoots so I was a little bored but I think my turn finally came. I read the comments last week, and many said they were disappointed because Tae-won(character he plays) lost his job. I was grateful people were worried about my share in the drama. But I got my job now. I hope they look forward to since Tae-won will be moving...

Tae-won will be moving busily."

Park Joo-mi who plays Jung Nan-jung (Yoon Won-hyung's wife) had negative viewer response about her acting. "I tried hard because it was my first villain role, but seemed lacking. I tried to show distinction from my previous projects, but that actually did the harm. In the first episode, since there were no Go soo or Jin Se-yeon, I felt greater responsibility to do well, but I was lacking. After airing of the first episode, PD-nim contacted me worrying if I felt hurt. He might be the only PD who actually leaves a text. PD-nim left very long texts. Reading his text saying "I am sorry not being able to show your strength because I was lacking as PD", I thought I really had to do better and I could trust PD-nim to the end." As related comments to my name on the net, there were lines like "Questionable acting skill", and I felt mortified as an actress. It made me dispirited, but I also thought why I was so bothered by it. Getting nervous and feeling timid, I couldn't work well as I thought. So I decided to enjoy it for the rest of the show since I don't want to be burden to the drama. I am still learning and trying hard to figure out how to portray Jung Nan-jung better." She says she will show more wicked side. "I feel that viewers will like it better when I do awful things, so I am talking with PD-nim and thinking about how to torment OkNyeo and Tae-won more. I think I can do it with the role I was given."

Jung Joon-ho who plays the villain Yoon Won-hyung explained why Yoon does not look complete villain. "I wanted to do a refreshing acting rather than playing conventional role. In the drama Yoon is the center of the evil who fills his greed with absolute power in his hand. But I thought this evil man must have his own Happiness and sorrow too. PD-nim also told me to do an original acting rather than predictable Sageuk acting, so I thought a lot how to show some humane side."

He added "Elders I met in the sauna recently complemented me. I liked it thinking I was able to portray caring evil character. Some people with last name Yoon even said they belong to Yoon Won-hyung family line and are grateful to me. They say they like Yoon Won-hyung I play because he has comical side in the drama. I assume they are grateful because Yoon has been always portrayed as big evil guy."

FIP fighting! Park Joo-mi is my first girl crush(from drama Hu Joon). She can never look wicked to me. I smile whenever she comes on the screen, trying to be horrible unconvincingly, looking too cute.

I am watching this one as well. I find with international audiences, the fusion historicals or ones with no more than 24 episodes get a lot more buzz. As far as in Korea, have no idea what's going on, but I am sad the actors are getting so much grief. I've been enjoying it thus far but am behind. Anyway are people expecting Academy Award performances every single outing? I think they are all doing fine, and I guess for me it's more about enjoying a story so if the writing is good, the acting is just a secondary thing for me. I just don't know how you get through 50 episodes of reading bad comments about your acting so I say stay away from social media and critics and listen to your writer and PD.

Thank you fan <3.

I have strong opinions when it comes to sageuks so forgive me. Sageuks is what I watch most and I pretty much love the history that goes with it and everything behind the scenes.

I think Lee Wan-kyu's Heo Jun (1999) version was more surprior than Choi's daily Gu Am Heo Joon. I enjoyed it nevertheless because I got a daily dose of it and I was blown away by the 20 yr old Park Eun-bin playing Heo's wife with such maturity. I didn't know Kim Ju-hyeok was 20yrs older than her until the show was over.

One of the most interesting thing about Gu Am Heo Joon was Kim Ju-hyeok playing the same character that his father Kim Mu-saeng originally played in 1975 I think.
I love him in Tears of the Dragon. I wish I could find all of his sageuks but most are too old.

Go-soo and Jin Se-yeon aren't pulling me to FIP but I'm glad it's doing well in ratings.

The more you talk about these older sageuks like Heo Jun, the more I wish I could access them! Park Eun-bin is lovely and I wish she got more play in lead roles, she's so underrated. Kinda sucks that PDs would rather strain every last nerve trying to make a crappy actress work in a lead role than try out some new talent.

I'd once mentioned FiP was getting less buzz than Gong Shim despite having higher ratings, and it looks like I was right. Funny how these things shake out, though it's really more of an expectations game at this point - virtually anything MBC airs in that Fri-Saturday slot ends up with ratings of 20 percent and up irrespective of who the lead is, so I can see how FiP's ratings/reception comes off underwhelming compared to BGS.

Heo Joon from 1999 is available online, maybe on one of the more out of the way sites? I can't remember specifically where (it's not on any of the legal streaming sites, however). Sangdo, which is Lee Byung-hoon's best work imo, isn't available on DVD anymore, or anywhere online as far as I know, but you can download hardsubbed episodes from the usual places.

I'm glad I was hooked on sageuks early on and while MrX was subbing. I would've missed all those shows and Sangdo too.

My only regret is not downloading what was available from the older sites before they got shut down.

Crap is so easy to find, but you have to really dig to find some of the old classics. There are so many I would love to watch, but I'd have to get off my butt and learn Korean first. I've been working my way through a beginner's textbook, but learning in a group, with an actual teacher, would be ideal. When shows like Queen Insoo and Jung Do Jeon miraculously get subs I start to get spoiled and lose motivation lol.

If you look at Mr. X's top ten, though, 9/10 of them are available with English subs now. We're very lucky.

0

Yes anything before 2000 is hard to find especially with subs.
Park Eun-bin is indeed underrated but what's new in dramaland? I'm enjoying her character in Age of Youth. She is totally killing it.

FIP was a lock for good ratings based on the PD alone. The story is pretty simple and easily tailored to fit the cast's strength.
It has the perfect time slot. If it was showing during the weekdays, the rating would be lower.

Required fields are marked *

Yeah, the ratings appear to be more a function of the time slot than anything else - that and to an extent the PD. Like I said before, a duck could be the lead and they'd still get 20 percent or near about that much.

If this was a weekday drama, they'd be lucky to break out of single digits.

0

I love Go Soo but don't love him enough to follow FIP. I feel bad for PD but I'm still thinking, why casted crappy actors when there are plenty talented actors who can act and do well in sageuk. ? I'm not saying Jin Se Yeon only, but few others too with exception to veterans. and why PD wants to struggle for JSY, made me wonder. This is very harsh criticism, but JSY is not a leading material. Chances given not only once and twice. I don't know what PD saw in JSY that similar to Han Hyo Joo, but the latter is far better. At least HHJ has facial expressions and not stiff. The hate for their acting is acceptable, even Suzy with the status of top star also cannot avoid criticsms, what more Jin Se Yeon.

W: Two Worlds - First time live-watching a k-drama and I can't wait for ep 5 next week (the preview looks so good!) also I can't wait til Viki subs the BTS videos cause they look like they are adorable...I love Lee Jong Suk's acting and I think this is is the first time I watch like a non-romantic comedy so I"m suprised at the lack of OST music during the episodes but the first OSt is really good and reminds me of a song from Pinocchio

She was Pretty: I'm on episode 9 and I think that for the first time in my drama watching (I've seen 12 k-dramas previously) I am coming down with Second Lead Syndrome lol...Siwon's dimples are adorable and I just smile every time I see his goofiness, idk I feel like he's much more dynamic than the lead guy but we'll see how I feel when I finish watching the series

It's funny because I watched SWP before KMHM and my problem was seeing my ship as brother and sister. The first time they did the team rocket chant, I was all in. Rhen they weren't siblings so I had to rework my understanding of their relationship. And focus myself to see that he liked her as anything more than a sister. Oh the struggles of watching out of order, lol.

Happy friday to all of you beannies
So I'm currently watching :

+ UF : I really like it .. I like Woo Bin as actor so much, because he's the type to display his emotions just by gazing .. I don't like Suzy though .. Never liked her acting even in her breakthrough role in ITA .. but Eul is lovable ( kinda ) so I'm bearing with her and her and JY have great chemistry .. I like the story quite a lot .. I like the writer, so I'm not bored at all .. actually I'm quite enjoying the ride ..

+ Doctors : Well, I liked it at first, but now, I'm kinda bored ?

+ BM : WHY was it cut :'( .. it's the show I'm enjoying the most

+ School 2013 : I never watched it before, so i'm gonna discribe it with one word : LEE JONG SUK !! xD

+ White christmas : not bad as a thriller, still not totally captivated

+ Flower of prison : to my surprise, I'm enjoying the drama so far .. 50 ep are too much, but it's a light saeguk, so I'm sticking to it

+ W : I could not even start :'(

I only just finished ep 2 of UF so I don't know much about their chemistry. I agree about Woob's ability to convey emotions.

I'm loving Doctors but I'm behind at ep 9. So it might change but probably not.

S2013 & WC! You just made my day. Two of my favorite dramas ever. S2013 was the first I watched semi live. What episode are you on for both shows?

Aw, what happened with W? Is it the Viki pass thing? Cause I think there's other places and ways around it.

Hello Beanies !!
How are you ?

Currently watching: beautiful mind, the Good Wife, W and sometimes doctors.

Beautiful mind: Jang Hyuk is a marvellous actor, I need some sort of an happy ending for the wi-fi couple other wise ...... T_T. The last episode left me in pieces. Also how are we going to have some kinda of a conclusion in the relationship between father and son, the two ex-coworker, and all the mess that is going on in that hospital in 2 episodes HOW ????? because as much as the romance part of the drama is adorable ^^what set it apart is imo, the ethical questions, and questions about human relationship in general.
I'm still so pissed at KBS for that 2 episodes cut !!! KBS !!!!

The Good Wife: Brilliant all the actors are fantastic in it !
I think I only watched half of the first season of the American version of it. The small details in the actors play fascinates me, Jeon Do-yeon especially *slow clap* *bow down* *waits patiently for the next episodes*. Also Yoon Kye Sang needs to stop looking so damn good all the time lol. I can't even talk about Yoo Ji tae .... oh lord.

W: Just started, I'm HOOKED ! I didn't think it would be such a fun watch, enjoying the ride so far let's hope it keep it's momentum till the end! Also seeing HHJ in a drama again is probably my highlight of the year !

I'm going to Germany super soon for a 2 month internship, internet laws are a little different then where I'm from so I wanted to know if I could still have my weekly dose of drama by watching episodes on streaming website like dramacool or Myasiantv without trouble ?

Hey Beanies! It's been a couple of weeks since I last stopped by Open Thread and it feels good to be back! I am on vacation this week so I plan to leave the house at some point and also catch up on dramas.

I am enjoying all of the comments on W because that show is seriously my crack and I am obsessed at the moment. Obsessed!

What I'm currently watching:

W: Do I really need to add more on how enjoyable this show is? Yes? OK. I love this show! Everything is amazing and well thought-out! The writing is phenomenal and Lee Jong Suk and Han Hyo Joo have made fans out of me! Can Wednesday get here already?!!

Bring It On Ghost: I love this show! It's cute and the leads are adorable together! The show has great balance with humor and horror. Definitely a show I look forward to week after week!

Beautiful Mind: I'm not going to comment more. KBS sucks. That is all.

Wanted: I finally got caught up yesterday! Still a good show but the big twist I already anticipated weeks ago.

Ice Fantasy: Watched the first two episodes. I think I'm going to wait for this to finish airing. Seems more like a marathon show.

Oh My Ghostess: I finished it this week! Honestly, I have no clue why I waited so long to watch it but it was hilarious!

Baker King, Kim Tak-gu: I've been watching this off and on for the last few weeks. I like it. Yoon Shi-yoon has become one of the actors I need to watch more of so I have been looking for his other dramas.

The Good Wife: I love it! Definitely worth checking out! I am a huge fan of the American version (I'm also catching up on the final season) and the Korean version is pretty awesome as well. I am only on episode 4 but I will try to catch up this week.

Healer: This is a re-watch. I can't get enough of this show! I can watch it a million times in a row and not tire of it! I can't wait for K2 because I need my Ji Chang Wook fix and Whirlwind Girl 2 is not doing it for me.

Loving Beautiful Mind at the moment, have so many things to say about it, but feel so inadequate about my inability to express properly all the marvellous things happening.

Will probably get through a bunch of Japanese dramas first, but also thinking of watching another Jang Hyuk drama next... wondering if I should go for Thank You? I caught bits of it years back, but was not immediately attracted to the storyline and put it on the backburner.

I already have Five Senses of Eros lined up and may also check out The Client. Could possibly try to endure another sageuk, although tbh I had difficulty finishing Chuno.

Any thoughts/suggestions/advice?

Thank You is definitely worth trying if you're into Jang Hyuk, it's a melo but one of Lee Kyung-hee's better ones.

Chuno is really long so I can see how it might drag, if you want to try a sageuk then something likeThree Musketeers (yes, based on the Dumas novel!) might be better.

Or just cut straight to sageuk movies and watch War of the Arrows, it's only 2 hours long and absolutely gripping from start to finish. And the cast is A+++++.

Really? I thought the actress was fantastic in that show. I think Shine or Go Crazy was either really underrated or outshone by something else at the time it aired because not many people seem to have seen it. But it's one of the only sageuks I've enjoyed to date. Lots of adventure, a kick ass heroine (she's really really smart) and Jang Hyuk!

0

Thanks, pogo. I'll put Thank You on the watch list then. I hope I'll be able to make it through. I will persevere for Jang Hyuk! My last Lee Kyung-hee melo was Will It Snow For Christmas, which got somewhat tedious in the second half, and UF bores me from what little I've seen.

I do also have Three Musketeers on the watch list, thankfully that one is fairly short. And War of the Arrows sounds pretty good.

Hmm, I remember reading the recaps for Tree With Deep Roots. Okay, I guess that can go on the watch list too - damn, it's getting long. Not really feeling FTLY, actually.

Thanks Yoeda!

@junny,

I'm up to ep. 12 of SUCCESSFUL STORY OF A BRIGHT GIRL to catch early JH and Jang Nara. Alas, the subtitles are crummy, if not missing in action for extended stretches. Still, it has it charms.

THANK YOU is on my radar for the future.

After watching TWO OUTS IN THE BOTTOM OF THE NINTH, I viewed the Japanese movie the female lead ended up seeing by herself: LOVE LETTER (1995). Really enjoyed it. Like OH HAE YOUNG AGAIN, it features two characters who share the same name... but there the similarity ends.

THE WIND RISES / KAZE TACHINU by Miyazaki Hayao and Studio Ghibli was terrific. I've been an airplane nut since I was a kid, and thoroughly enjoyed this account of Horikoshi Jiro, the designer of the Mitsubishi Zero fighter.

Beautiful OST by Joe Hisaishi, plus the German-language "Das gibt's nur einmal." The outro "Vapor Trail" / “Hikōki-gumo” for the closing credits is also great, and was composed and sung in 1973 by 16-year old Matsutoya Yumi. The lyrics are haiku-like. The organ (Hammond B3?) reminds me of "Whiter Shade of Pale"... and the piano is gorgeous.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aOPeSyXPs_g

The animation is lovely, and the dream sequences with the Italian aeronautical engineer Caproni are a wonderful device. Sadly, the real Mrs. Jiro, Hori Tatsuo, died of TB, not unlike Manhattan Project physicist Richard Feynman's first wife. The ending is bittersweet, and the overall feel is uplifting, with a helping of antiwar sentiment.

2012 film LOVE FICTION is the account of a desperate novelist's attempts to overcome writer's block by finding a muse, and the wild and crazy paths that leads to. The music, supplied by "Romantic Chimpanzees," the resident rock band at the watering hole where he tends bar, is great... much of it performed by Wild Dingo. The closing number is a birthday present to his ex, who has returned to Alaska to help her dad run his restaurant. She came to Korea to go to college, but the working world has been a letdown, she knows hardly anyone, and her formerly wonderful romance has turned to dust. It started out so promisingly with Joo-Wol's hilariously funny love letter... It's a loony flick, but also realistic in the small details of how relationships form, evolve, and wither. The ending is as whacky as the tap dancing finale in THE BLIND SWORDSMAN, ZATOICHI. Plus the polar bear and seal hats are so darned cute.

Haha, I'd been wondering about Successful Story of a Bright Girl and whether I should watch it. I vaguely remember a lot of screaming from what snatches I caught, lol. But I'll put it on my list anyway, since I also quite like Jang Nara - she's such a cute button and I want her secret to eternal youth!

Ohh, Love Letter is awesome, it's such a fantastic film and so poignant.

Thanks so much for your other suggestions, I'll do my best to check them out!

Hahaha, yes I think I read those! They're hilarious and I wish the site had more of these. Thanks for linking them again here, had a good laugh at the comments as well. I never got round to My Love Patzzi because I'm kinda allergic to Kim Rae-won.

0

They're so funny! But, I think those kinds of posts are dangerous fanwar-bait nowadays. Some readers might not get the snark and be offended and resort to fighting in the comments.

Heck, even a simple criticism of character motivations sometimes turns into a nasty discussion now. :'(

0

@mary,

Thanks for the links. I haven't seen MY LOVE PATZZI, but got a kick out of the salvos of good-natured banter, not to mention the comments. The widespread confusion over which of the guys was actually the male lead was hilarious... After taking a gander at AsianWiki, I realized that I recently saw Kim Jae-Won in the role of King Injo in HWAJUNG.

0

@mary,

Yeah, I know what you mean. It's a pity, cuz posts like that are meant to be in the spirit of fun and games. I guess as a site gets bigger, it attracts all sorts of people. I've had to restrain myself quite a few times from snarking back too, haha.

(I don't know if you will see this but I had to say)

@mary

OMG Thank you for posting those links! they were a fabulous read and had me grinning like an idiot at 0020 to myself. I'd send kisses if I could! lol.

@junny

Thank you for asking about recommendations for Jang Hyuk- I don't know how I missed this the first round, but boy am I glad I randomly came back to read. My "to watch" list is growing too fast, darn it!

0

@michykdrama, I see it @__@

Hehe glad you found them funny!

Jang Nara is great in SUCCESSFUL STORY... and along with her late granny, may play the only sane character in the show. LOL. The way she gets under JH's character's skin is nicely done. The first time their paths cross is a hoot. ;-)

I was surprised to see Yoon Tae-Young in it, too. He did such a great job in THE KING'S DAUGHTER, SU BAEK-HYANG that I've been keeping an eye open for his earlier work, but I didn't realize he was in this one. Oddly enough, I watched him in STRIKE LOVE a couple of weeks ago. Seeing my favorite Goguryeo assassin as the male lead in pinstripes getting SLS'd was a trip. Truly an underrated actor -- with a warm and soothing voice. He and the rest of the actors portraying players were impressive and great fun to watch. I can't begin to categorize this series because it has elements of family drama, childhood friendships, coming-of-age, puppy love -- and training scenes on the isolated island that felt like episodes of LOST. I was drawn into the action from the get-go, and I'm not even a sports nut. I really enjoyed the heartwarming tale of a bunch of misfit underdogs who are molded into a champion baseball team.

STRIKE LOVE shares a common trope with SUCCESSFUL STORY OF A BRIGHT GIRL: irresponsible parents who saddle their kids with debt due to their thieving/swindling and gambling/dealings with loan sharks, respectively. Grrrr.

PS -- Have been meaning to thank you for the pointer to NEKO ZAMURAI a while back. I totally enjoyed it. The way the feline lead wrapped the ronin around her paw was too cute for words. Just the sort of comedic break I needed during OH HAE YOUNG AGAIN. Thanks!

Haha, ok now you've kinda convinced me to check out Successful Story of a Bright Girl again... I'm assuming a happy ending for Jang Nara and Jang Hyuk's characters since it's a rom-com. Wow, I never knew Jang Nara won a Baeksang for her role in that drama.

I don't remember Strike Love, but it seems it shared the same fate as Beautiful Mind - aka the dreaded episode cut. Sigh. But at least it got to air the full run overseas. I'm not sure if BM will get that chance since they seem to be in live-shoot mode now.

Oh, so glad you enjoyed Neko Zamurai! Did you watch season 2 as well? Equally hilarious!

0

@junny,

I'm hoping it ends well, but I haven't gotten that far yet. Keeping my fingers crossed that the con-artist parents go straight for once.

Yeah, STRIKE LOVE got the chop, too. That probably accounts for the ending, championship-wise. I have to admit that the leading lady's mother was one of the most irritating moms I've seen to date in a Kdrama. She's right down there with the evil aunt in 1% OF ANYTHING... Harpies of the first water. I need to get back to watching more sageuks... Oh, wait, there are scheming harpy concubines and dowager queens (I'm looking at you, MOTW). ARGH!

Re: BEAUTIFUL MIND

Because of the live shoot, they'll just drop everything when they finish filming ep. 14? So no chance of getting the rest of it in the can and issuing a director's cut for sale overseas? -- I have no idea how the Korean TV industry operates re: financing, international sales, etc. From a purely humanitarian standpoint, I'm glad to see movement towards pre-produced shows as live shooting must be hell on cast, crew, and writers working around the clock in all kinds of weather. Maybe worse than being a hospital resident -- at least they're indoors in freezing and broiling weather...

Re: NEKO ZAMURAI

I loved the theme song... Shades of Inigo Montoya.

I'm saving season 2 for a rainy day. ;-)

Also noticed that there's a movie version. Have you seen it?

Thanks again!

0

@PakalanaPikake,

I'm not sure if the cast and crew of Beautiful Mind will do a director's cut, although there is a survey going around to estimate demand: https://pbs.twimg.com/media/CoXYLo-UEAANa0B.jpg:large

I don't know if the cast have other projects after Beautiful Mind. My guess is that after the 14 episodes are done, the cast and crew will go their separate ways unless there is already intention to film the remaining scenes for a director's cut. And even then, it'll depend on whether the cast have other projects lined up - Jang Hyuk seems to be quite the busy actor with projects going into 2017. I'd love to have a director's cut version, but I won't get my hopes up until it's officially confirmed.

And yes, I wish Beautiful Mind had been pre-produced as well, it would benefit the drama so much. I never understood the Korean industry's obsession with live shoots, since Japan, Hong Kong and even China are not falling to pieces with pre-produced shows.

As for the Neko Zamurai film, I read reviews that it was fairly run of the mill, but watchable if you like Tama-chan and Madarame. Personally, I think the magic of Neko Zamurai is its bite-sized format, which Japan does particularly well (see also Shinya Shokudo). I will jump on board a season 3, but probably not the 2-hour film.

The theme song rocks! I love how swashbuckling it is. It gets a bit of a poppy upgrade in season 2, but still good.

0

Going to start watching Beautiful Mind his weekend. Wasn't interested at first, but finishing up Fated to Love You. Didn't realize that the Jang Hyuk was the star in both dramas. Really looking forward to seeing him in a VERY different role. Fated to Love You is very sweet. Jang Na Ra is a doll and looking forward to watching more of her as well.

W is all that is on my mind and all I care about lol.

I'm still watching UF for God knows what reason. Maybe the scenery, Pororo? The OST is nice also.

Idk I'm getting really annoyed with No Eul but I do want to see how things unravel.

Doctors has been kind of letting me down for a few episodes but my love for KRW and PSH is pushing me through it. How will the writer have enough for 20 episodes??

I am enjoying Doctors because they have (so far) not resorted to extreme makjang elements. The usual tropes are there but I am glad they have so far made this a character driven story without over the top "dramatic" plot.

There is also a "hint" of the insurrectionist element in the characters and drama Both are outwardly successful and confident. They don't bow down to authority and accept the "abuse" that we so typically see in dramas. In a seniority and hierarchical society, this is tantamount to heresy?

It is nice to see two slightly broken and flawed individuals open up gradually and change for each other in stages. I am anticipating how they resolve the Seo Woo story in a unique way.

Hello beanies.I have been watching wakamonotachi/all about my siblings starting from just yesterday and almost catching up to ep 9 by now,is there anything better than this drama? I think not,at least for now lol.I love the elder brother, Sato is so endearing and almost like a father to his siblings, but one that you could look up to yes..in a good way.And eita, what can I say, this is my first drama of eita, and who knew what a surprising package he is, don't know if it's him or the character of course. But God, I love how he carries himself, from the constant bickering with Sato, to his ragged, worn out jeans and flip flops or how he pretends to not care at all,but under that guise of indifference he's very much like the semi-version of sato, like takako says a watershed of light and shadow. Can't gush enough about all the other siblings also, haro and sato are one comic pair who'd even make me laugh when they are fixated on some serious topic, like those fights in rain. All in all,a very very quality drama and with a mix of humane, slice of life events, some times which even makes you take a glance on your own life, and gives you a punch of conscience.
To add, sato is really the one who keeps the family together, his sense of rights and wrong is strong, though he's poor but he's honest, which shows when he'd confront the doctor's wife about his sister's infidelity but still he wanted to prove his reasons for standing beside his sister. So though a weird family,we get to know they're a happy one, because even after all the wrongdoings, they stick together through the outbursts and the fights, thick and thin.
So I would surely recommend this to anyone who's into jdrama. And oh,Satoshi Tsumabaki is undoubtedly my new favorite actor yes. I think I'm over the pretty b oys by now lol.

I've actually missed family dramas lately because all the Korean ones are 50 episodes, it's nice to have a shorter option that's family-focused.

50 ep formats are too heavy to concentrate yeah. I am falling out of love for dramas on a frequent basis so wish k-dramas would follow the 10 ep format. It does help when the story is compact and does not run out of materials.

Satoshi Tsumabuki is just nailed it. I can feel what he feels and his desperation but we have to continue to live in after all.
Then Eita, I'll watch anythinh with Eita, from Tada's to do it all house to Saikou no Rikon, that man can do every thing.
Wakamonotachi is really good and one of the best drama I've seen.
I also like their portrayal of poor or lower class people, from the house to the wardrobe, the team do a good job

The shows that I really like/love are all cable shows beside W. The Two World (Wed/Thur).
Fri/Sat - The Good Wife (tvN), Age of Youth (jTBC), Unit 38 (OCN).

I haven't watch these many shows before and I'll be adding more at the end of next month with Moonlight Dawn(KBS) and Scarlet Heart (SBS). A good mix of different genres yay.

But 6 total.... what to do? I'm already not sleeping well during the weekends lol.

I'm wondering what the scene will be with Scarlet Heart/Moonlight, next month. Hope they're good, and acknowledged to be good - I really don't want what happened with UF (pre-produced and much-hyped show turning out underwhelming and getting its ass kicked on the ratings front) happening to oppa and IU.

I'm not even worried about Scarlet Heart and the ratings. If it makes it to 15% then that's worth the hype. I'm already in love with it's beautiful dreamy world thanks to Kim Kyu-Tae.
It's China that will eat this up and that is where they will get most of their profit.
The quality on the other hand we'll just have to wait and see. I'm not excited about this writer but you never know.

Moonlight Dawn is a youth romance. It's fine if it stays close to 10% even in single digit. They have plenty of veteran actors to make it less webtoon-ish and a little bit old school-ish..
I won't mind if they hold it back till after the Olympics and Doctors final episode.

I agree. For all that fans might not like UF going to 2nd place, this was pre-produced for China and, last I heard, they were loving it. While I'm sure they'd love a DOTS situation, did anyone think that was gonna happen without the writer of DOTS? I didn't. I just think that 2015 was somewhat of a lackluster k-drama year in terms of weekday dramas. I'm not saying there weren't good ones because there were but in terms of hype and high ratings, it was really Yong Pal and....maybe someone else can think of others. I guess Mask kinda did ok. It's all getting vague already.

Regardless of what people think of the quality, DOTS being a hallyu sensation was fun to see and Doctors and W and even early UF hit double digits. Then cable with Signal and CITT (though I'm still bitter) and others.

0

@sorrynotsorry - 2015 had Grapevine, but that was most emphatically not a drama tailored to Chinese fan tastes. Also Six Flying Dragons, though that continued quite a way into 2016.

But yeah, in terms of pure hype it was all Yongpal and She Was Pretty. As for UF/Scarlet Heart etc, I hope they make that China money, though I don't know how UF fared on streaming after week 1 - it doesn't sound like the kind of buzzy Hallyu hit DotS was, though as you said that phenomenon was never going to be replicated without KES and they were relying more on Kim Woo-bin's post-Heirs popularity for that one.

0

In China, there is IMDB like website called douban. It is the go-to place where Chinese rate media content.

W has garnered over 10 thousand votes and current score is 9.2 out of 10.

UF on the other hand has nearly 3000 votes currently.

W does not have any proper official promos because of the new law. No chinese portal is allowed to host it other than Tencent who bought the license but can not put it up themselves also becuause of the new law. So it is all bootleg and word of mouth for W right now in China.

0

It makes the most sense for Scarlet Heart to be more successful in China. It's based on a popular Chinese novel and tv series.
The Goryeo version has nothing that would be offensive to the Chinese as far as history goes. Taejo built Goryeo over internal battles within Korea.

@Cipher

I agree with word of mouth when it comes to W. I've said it before after the first 2 eps that the rating will increase with good word of mouth.
It has an unique concept so some would be on the fence and wait for reviews first.

Glad to hear that it's well received in China.

Happy Friday, Beanies! Here's what I'm watching/been watching/want to watch:

W -- Watched all 4 eps last night and I'm still freaking out. My poor heart can't handle it and I don't know how I'm going to wait a whole week!

Squad 38 -- This show has been consistently awesome, and I'm so sad it's ending in two weeks! I really hope this is just the biggest con of them all... Also, Seo In-guuuuuuuk as I say every time I talk about this show. Also, I'm still laughing about the playground fight from last episode, ha!

Gong Shim -- Finished. Cute leads. Namgoong Min is simply brilliant. Disappointing finale, definitely, and the whole birth secret plot really dragged in the middle and end of the show, but it was overall very enjoyable and quirky.

Doctors and Wanted -- Dropped and won't be picking back up. Just not my cup of tea. Been glancing at the recaps, though.

Beautiful Mind -- Really want to pick this back up, since everyone raves about it. Might marathon the episodes I didn't watch once the show ends.

The Good Wife -- Want to start this soon, been hearing great things about it, and apparently it's snappy and slick and fast-paced and right now I'm craving shows like that. (Ahem, Squad 38 and now W.)

Boys Over Flowers -- I took the plunge and marathoned the first 6 eps of this classic. I didn't expect to like it so much! I haven't watched any more yet, but at some point I'll finish it. It's so frustrating and predictable but I can see why it's so appealing.

Me! I marathoned Mudo a year or 2 ago with whatever I could find on the net, managed to watch eps from 2007 onwards.

I'm so sad Hyung Don is leaving, it really feels like a bygone era! I miss NHC and Gil too. I can understand the pressure that Hyung Don was talking about. As much as I love Mudo, I felt that there was an over-inclusion of the viewers' opinion to the point that every move was being dictated by them. Every little mistake was criticised heavily. I know Mudo wouldn't be where it is if it wasn't for them, but still.

It's still really good, but the chemistry is not the same and sometimes I feel the members are exhausted and and a bit forced when I watch the recent eps :(

For now I'm excited by the upcoming Muhan Company eps with GD, Kim Hye Soo and Le Je Hoon! Signal! ♥

Happy friday guys! (even though it's already Saturday here oops). Finally been in the mood to watch some dramas after a while.

Marriage Contract: Finally finished this after so long. Apart from Lee Seo Jin, the girl who plays Cha Eun Sung totally stole my heart. It was really a beautiful show, and I loved how the ending was written.

The Good Wife: Started on this last week, and finally got to catch up on the latest episodes today. Really excited to see how the plot will unfold! Thought of watching the original series but I read some spoilers so I'm a bit hesitant.

Will be starting on W and Come Back Ahjussi this weekend!

These days I've been wondering - is there a specific criteria for a drama to be chosen to be pre-produced? I get that some shows get pre-produced because they planned to be release simultaneously in China or because of overseas shootings (like Descended I guess). But what about other shows though?

0
3
reply

Required fields are marked *

It's all about China and its year or so old law. So if they think they can do well in China, they pre-produce. I have never heard anyone ever indicate there was any other reason for it.

Someone wrote that years ago, they tried pre-producing but it didn't always mean a hit with the Korean audience ...well, it wouldn't because it's not that simple... and they went back to live shoot where they can change the story, music whatever is annoying to the local audience.

I'm actually interested if any others are doing 50% pre-production like CITT. It still went sideways but I see it as a fault of the live shoot system because people were fine with the pre-produced part.

0
2
reply

Required fields are marked *

Was the 50% pre-production for CITT meant to be like an experiment whether pre-production works or for other reasons? Well I guess that there's always a trade off - I was reading that UF's pre-production might be a disadvantage to them now, with their falling ratings, they can't do anything to change the story anymore.

0
1
reply

Required fields are marked *

I don't know what the reasoning was for the 50% other than the live shoot system is brutal for both the actors and, even more so, the filming crew. So maybe they thought to give it a go and it was a success in that the pre-production part wasn't the problem.

I watch Asian dramas for a reason, but I do much prefer the US style (filming much further ahead) of putting your craft out there, trusting your writing and letting the chips fall where they may. Sure you can change things in a second season if you make it and sometimes good doesn't mean successful. It is what it is. I mean is UF really fixable for the local audience? Isn't the problem that it ended up with strong competition? Does the writer have to totally change the direction because W came along? Also, it's a hit in China which is the whole reason for the pre-production in the first place.

So I've solved nothing except I'll enjoy my dramas regardless of ratings. I'm actually not watching UF but really enjoying W, but I get no good feeling at seeming crumbling ratings for productions, especially pre-produced. I am happy for W though because it's so darn good.

But, there's something about sooyoung's face that bothers me. And I don't understand why, because back during the genie days, I didn't notice anything about it, except that it was pretty? For some reason, it keeps distracting me, and i don't know if it's some PS that I can't detect, or just her acting. sdl;fjsfl;dj Everytime I see her face upfront, it feels unnatural? I dunnot, but it's been driving me nuts, and I thought, maybe, if I talked about it, the feeling would go away, and I would be able to enjoy her scene. I feel like a horrible person for judging someone's appearance, when it's not even their fault how they look like, and for no reason I can understand. I want this feeling to go away.

I think it's the way she wears her hair in 38 TF.

I agree. I think it's the hair cut. Imo she looks prettier in the flashbacks when her hair was long.

She looks amazing with short hair, but her current hairstyle (longer bob and full bangs) is horrible. She has puffy cheeks and small forehead and this haistyle makes her face look even wider. I wish she would have kept her 2015 hair.

I feel the same. I just started PU38 recently and I'm not familiar with Sooyoung at all, but I kept staring at her face a few times. I think her haircut has been bothering me.

I agree with Purple Owl. I like her look with the longer hair.

No it doesn't make you a horrible person. I am far more critical and get far more irritated by looks in kdramas than in north american dramas for the simple reason, I think, that it's all visual to me. I don't understand the language so I watch features more closely and that kind of attention can make them irritate me. I said somewhere else that I don't like Kim Sun-ah's mouth - it turns down at the corners and makes her look bitter, and it detracts from the drama for me. I couldn't stand the main actress's mouth in Madame Antoine either, don't ask me why it just looked creepy, so when she and the male lead kissed it was not romantic at all for me.

I think this irritation extends to voices too. When you can't understand the individual words, a female's shriekiness might be amplified. I had to really work to ignore the female lead in Kill Me Heal Me and I'm glad I did because I enjoyed the drama in the end. W's heroine was shrieky to me in the first episode though toned down later. I know others thought the same so maybe it's cultural? A Korean might not have batted an eye at the shrill voice. I have no way of knowing.

I'm also much more critical of looks in the men in kdramas, because half the reason I watch them are for good looking men! So it takes a bit for me to enjoy a drama when the male isn't attractive to me.

We all watch Kdramas for our own individual reasons. I can get handsome men in North American dramas too but they're rarely in romance dramas (that end).

The voice thing puts me off probably more than looks.
This is why I've been really hesitant about watching Oh My Ghost even though I like Jo Jung Suk a lot. I can't stand the female lead's voice especially when she's whinging and whining. It's not quite on the same level as scratching the chalkboard but it's close.

Catching up on dramas while canning apricots...still wishing that "Better Man" had faster subs. "W" is up next. "Doctors" needs a plot.

Why 'Healer' didn't get good ratings despite the fact that it was such an amazing drama? I think only cheesy and cliché dramas get good ratings in Korea. *sighs*

It was up against Punch which was arguably more tightly-written and suspenseful. Though I'm a huge fan of both, I think Punch is good that I didn't mind Healer losing out to it. I'd probably say the same if the ratings were reversed (ie I don't mind if Healer wins over Punch). Don't make me choose between them! Haha I'm glad I'm not one of those monitored households for tv ratings.

I marathoned 9 episodes of Punch yesterday. It's such a brilliant show. So well-written. The storyline blows most K dramas out of the water.
While I liked Healer, yeah... I can really see the attraction of Punch... it's so well written and Kim Rae Won is a powerhouse of acting chops.

How can they make eating jajangmyun so suspenseful and tragic and troll-ish at the same time? :O

I loved that scene when the two men were having jajangmyeon in two different rooms... the tension was palpable.

It is probably right that knetz love about the cheezy romance and all that. Look at the ratings of drama like DOTS, Doctors.

But don't forget drama like Signal, Misaeng got high rating too. Healer was against Punch, and myself honestly love Punch more. I am in the minority who don't like Healer as much as most of Beanies. But the thing is Healer lose to Punch is better rather than lose out to some boring and crappy dramas. Healer probably will do lot better if it was aired in TVN.

What a tiring week for me that I slept over 10 hours when the busy week ended.

So I think I did not watch as much drama this week.

I'm so not ready to bid farewell to Beautiful Mind..but remain hopeful that it ends well.

I started W...and umm this is a safe place right?

It's not as addicting as I thought it would. So I don't get the hype. Sorry! I do think it's okay for me to continue to watch.

I usually agree on the majority.. so I was surprised I wasn't as addicted as the other viewers. It's good but not really addicted...which is a good thing because I don't suffer the withdrawal

In my country, many ppl still ranting about DOTS and even my friends love so much about DOTS. Thy find me weird that I said DOTS was not the best drama for me, I can only watch it once. But when I talk about how good Signal, then they say Signal is confusing (and no hot and hansome hero.lol. I don't know want to laugh or cry ).. Maybe because I have watched tons of drama, so I don't really into with DOTS. Same goes to Doctors too.. Funnily, my friends also cannot watch UF anymore because they said it is so boring?

Anywa . We all have different taste. It is OK to have different taste..as long as we respect each other.

I'll cry for you then! I cannot decide who I love more, Park Hae Young or Lee Jae Han.. heck throw in Cha Soo Hyun also doesn't make it easier.

DOTS was kinda fun to see a lot of reaction.. I just kinda follow the hype. W is kinda repeating that for me. Except Dots has my girl crush Kim Ji Won though.. I have no crushes in W. So no withdrawal feeling at all.

I'm really glad that W is on one of the big 3 stations and getting a lot of attention. I liked a lot of the writer's previous works like Nine and Queen In Hyun's Man. They seemed so underrated back then on tvN and they still are.

I kinda feel like watching QIHM again sometime.... Lol. Forgotten a lot of the details. Maybe whenever I have a kdrama drought (unlikely though xD).

I wonder how skinny some of these actresses are?

I have had the pleasure of seeing PArk Shin Hye up close and she is quite slim, not abnormally skinny but certainly below the median. But in shots with other actresses, she appears almost Rubenesque. Which leads me to wonder, how skinny must those other actresses be?

I know Gong Hyo Jin is pretty skinny but Lee Sung Kyung (sp?) must be skin and bones.

IKR! I used to think some actresses look "full" compared to the skinny ones but at some point, I looked at their arms and WOAH even the ones like Sooyoung of SNSD and PSH who look "healthy" if you look at their face are actually very thin if you check their arms :(

Like many others here, I was mourning over Beautiful Mind and lost my interest in all the other shows I was watching previously. Can't believe that there are only 2 episodes left. Now I have re-picked up 38 task force but I really want more action in this! And re-picked up W too after I forsake it at episode 1 earlier.

Hi guys, a W trash here. How are you all?

It hurts me to see so many unsatisfied comments about HHJ's acting. Her acting is not perfect but still great imo. I'm so disappointed over the comments asking whether she was crying or laughing during KC's visit. Wasn't it obvious that she was crying WHILE in a state of disbelief (some people can't help but laugh when expressing their disbelief). I honestly think that that specific scene was done beautifully. Another actress that I thought was amazing in portraying the sad/disbelief expression would be SHJ in OHY again. She was amazing.

W aside, has anyone seen the first episode of the Japanese Misaeng remake series? I'm trying to find subbed episodes but can't find them :( Can anyone help me with this? Thank you so much! Have a great weekend everyone! (And good luck waiting for a week til' the next W episode!)

I had no idea the J-Misaeng started already :O

Re: HHJ criticism, that's funny. The prison scene hit me emotionally the most. You're right, it was disbelief and almost hysteria. Like "I'm suffering so much and I don't want to cry but WTF is happening to me? I just tried to help a fictional character and now I'm a criminal in a fictional world. Does this even make sense?"

If anything, it's the ditzy/hyper HHJ scenes criticism that I understand. Though like Lee Je-hoon in Signal, I prefer my actors this way, so I leave it as a personal preference thing.

Don't be disheartened by the W criticism btw. Saya told me that people will always find something to complain about so why bother paying attention?

Thanks for answering mary! :)

Yeah, it started last week i think. So we'll have 2 episodes by this week. I'm so sad I couldn't find any subbed episodes TAT

I totally agree. I understand where the complaints for hyper!OYJ acting are coming from, but not for her other scenes. i'm a trash for her prison scenes :(

How do you wait for a week though? What should we do to ease the pain? Thank God subs for TGW ep 7 is out. I'll be happily replaying YJT's parts while waiting for Wednesday to come by again. :D

yes, I watched it because I loved the male lead's acting, and I was hoping the final ep would be awesome to make it up for the rest of show. But it didn't . The biggest WTF kdrama moment. I would have that one re-done.
