This week was fun and stressful.

My nephew is in the hospital. My sister is worried. And the other 언니 is sick. 친오빠 and I are trying not to talk long enough to argue. My therapist supports my decision of moving out. But now I have to tell my family and figure out my finances. Of course, I've been thinking about traditional families and how much I envy them. But they have different problems than my deep concern about being a burden. I don't mind being a burden. I mind not knowing who will be assigned caring for me. Which has increased my anxiety dreams ?

But on the fun side, work is going well. I'll miss my charge when he goes back to school. I'm getting better at having him follow the schedule and my energy level is slowly matching his. I'm going to ask for a letter of recommendation because the parents seem happy with my care. And he seems to love it because threating to fire me and sending him to camp works. He said he likes camp but he would rather be with Rina. Score! Hopefully other parents and children feel the same.

Other than that summer is almost over. My least favorite month! I have a little break between my charge going back to school and my semester starting again. Trying to figure out my class load since this is my last semester. And find a school year job because I quit my previous one. That has to be decided and prepared for next week so I spent this week stressing over it.

On the media front, I'm catching up. I will try very hard not to be late to W. It's Sukkie and parallel universes!!! Wednesday and Thursday are just my busiest days. Might just binge watch tomorrow after work. The spring animes are ending, so sad. But now I get to catch up on the interesting summer ones.

Korean:

Entertainer  – ep 15 loving the romance
Jackpot  – paused on ep 5 *I'll never finish*
Lucky Romance  – completed *withdrawals*
Pucca  – S 2 ep 7
Doctors  – ep 5 the romance is life
W - watched 10 minutes at 20% and freaked out. Oppa is back. And things have behind happening! Just have to find the right time to watch - can't fangirl at work or at night. Might be cleaning show so I'll be watching it Fri-Sun
TF38  – currently watching ep 4 I love everything! Gukkie is gorgeous, snarky, and sassy. Sooyoung is doing a great job. And the team isn't quite a squad yet but watching them get there will be fun.
Uncontrollably Fond - not enough space on my tech for DF. My computer is down. I can use Roku in the living room. But then everyone in the house will know. Urgh!

Japanese:

Nodame Cantabile  – paused ep 5
Haven’t You Heard, I’m Sakamoto  – ep 11
Tanaka-kun is Always Listless  – completed, I'll miss Ohta, Tanaka & the squad
High School Fleet  – completed
Love Live Sunshine  – ep 3
Itazura na Kiss (1996)  – ep 3 it is not the best but it’s important

Orange - ep 2, interesting plot and seems school life light with a little darkness of things teens shouldn't have to face

Taiwanese:

Say Again Yes I Do  – completed. Both Doctors and TF38 are my nightly shows now. When I'm up to date, I'm add a new show.

Western:

Girl Meets World  – S 3 ep 7 was surprisingly edgy. Next episode tonight
Mako Mermaids  – S3 ep 13

Remember: be patient, persistent, and if you overhear a conversation listen until the very end (like until people walk away). Dramas can help our lives. Drama it up, fellow beanies ?

Question: What is your favorite friends to lovers story?

And i tried the To the Beautiful You - Japanese version and i dooont like it! There are many slapstick humour and i dont find it funny at all.

Can u pleaseeee help me to recommend some good dorama? Thank youuuu..

I'm fairly new to kdramas so I won't be of much help if you wish to substitute jdoramas with kdramas.

This is always recommended by everyone and i will start with this classic named Hana Yori Dango aka Boys over flowers - story taken from a manga. There was an anime too. I have only seen the Japanese version.

To the Beautiful you aka Hana Kimi has 2 japanese versions. I did watched 1st one and put it on hold after 5 episodes. I couldn't stomach the comedy which was very typical of Jdoramas.

You should try Hotaru no Hikari, Liar Game, Kazoku Game.
If you like Liar Game type content then must try Death Note too.

0

As you're looking something with kdrama feel, so I guess you're into romance drama.
- As Catocat suggest, you can start with 2 seasons of Hana Yori Dango (BOF in korea). Some prefer this version over BOF.
-Rich Man Poor Woman, in one glance it seems like typical kdrama setup: rich-arrogant-hero, plucky-poor-heroin, nice-turn-evil-second-guy, pretty-clingy-second-girl. Good things are there not many angst nor noble idiocy.
-Buzzer Beat, romance between basketball player and musician.
-Zenkai Girl, career centered girl and a chef. You will love the secondary OTP (may be the youngest OTP ever in doramaworld)!

Compare to kdrama, jdorama has more genre variation so you should try to watch other genre as well. Some may have to much slapstick which not everyone can handle. As for the romance, it can vary from school romance to mature one which not always has happy ending and don't expect over romantic scene like in kdrama. And what I like in jdorama is it never fear to has strong heroin who can stand on her own without the help of hero.

0

The latest jdorama Seisei Suruhodo Aishiteru has similar feel like Korean drama. During the kiss scene, there is 360 degree camera twirling around them. LOL

0

If you are looking out for J drama and not fond of slap stick comedy. Try out the oldies.. Takura Kimuya's drama Pride, Long Vaction.
I Have watch hundreds of k drama, taiwanese drama and J drama. I can still watch Pride all over again. Its my all time fav romantic drama.

Coming back to 2016.... after years of taking a long hiatus from drama land. I am back with new obsession. UF is taking me back to my ViKi days.... the old viki days...... Kim Woo Bin.. you found a new noona fan.

0

Atashinchi no danshi
Gokusen
Pride
Love Shuffle
Sukina Hito ga iru koto (currently airing)

they also have tons of movies based on popular shoujo manga you can check them out

0

forgot the best ones!
Hana Kimi and Yamato nadeshiko shichi henge:D

0

As @zed mentioned Yamato Nadeshiko Shichi Henge is amazing! It was my first Asian drama. I watched it and then showed my best friend at a sleepover. She fell asleep at episode 2 but I finish the series again. I never rewatch thongs withing the same month so that was a big deal.

Like @yukari said I'm guessing you like romances if you want a kdrama feel.
Mischievous Kiss season 1, 2 and the movie are my current favs
Nodame Cantabile is my third Jdorama ever. It's not so romantic but the comedy is great.

I'm an Shojo anime fangirl, romance and slice of life
Romance recs, mainly high school:
Wallflower with YNSH is based on
Special A
Toradora - the first ep has some bad language but it fades away on the second
Say I love you - beautiful, I'm thinking of rewatching on my 3rd anniversary
Kimi ni Todoke
Lovely Complex - I rewatched this, the movie is good too
Skip Beat - not highly romantic, adult main characters
Nodame Cantabile - more romantic than the dorama. Has 3 seasons, college story
Blue Spring Ride
My Love Story
Itazura na Kiss - Mischievous Kiss is based on it & it has been adapted 7 times by 5 countries

Slice of Life recs:
Anne of Green Gables
You and Me
Love Live! School Idol Project - has 2 season and a movie
Tari Tari
Wake Up, Girls
Tonari No Seki-kun - 7 minute short that always made me laugh
Baby Steps - has 2 seasons
Your Lie in April - highly emotional
Anne Happy/Unhappy Go Lucky
And any of the ones I'm watching now

Anime is easier to find legally than doramas, at least in my experience. Crunchyroll, Dramafever, Viki, YouTube and Netflix has animes. I've found some doramas on the first 3. And some Jmovies on the first 4.

Hope that helps ?

0

Kazoku Game is great! So are Liar Game, Ando Lloyd, Bitter Blood, Great Teacher Onizuka (the original), I'm Home, Nobunaga Concerto, Hero, Never Let Me go...

0

I saw the recommendation from Zed down below for Love Shuffle and decided to give it a try. Darn it, I'm on episode 7. So I can vouch for it. It's pretty good.

0

Yes, there's Orange the movie. I like it.
Like yukari said, to recommend dorama with kdrama feel is a little bit hard...
You can try some movies instead, here's some of my suggestion (some have been mentioned before):
1. Kimi ni todoke
2. Heroine Shikkaku (Heroine Disqualified)
3. Halfway. This movie looks like an indie movie. Its story is rather simple but they attracts many viewers because it conveys the simple love life of highschoolers.
4. Strobe Edge
5. Ao haru ride
6. Usagi Drop. Not really a romantic movie
7. Beyond Memories

@amaimkan thanks for that list. I'll be adding them to my planned watch list. I loved Bunny Drop the anime, but then when I found out the future I was mad for a week. But that's enough reason to check out the rest of the list ?

0

@yukari, thanks for the reco. I watched rich man, poor woman. It was really nice. You can say it's almost my first Jdrama, except i've started watching new series girl and 3 sweethearts. Can you recommend any good new rom com jdrama that released in the past year or so.

Orange the anime. Did not know there was a movie. Now I'm not sure if I want to watch the movie first or wait until I finish the anime. I'll probably finish the anime first. I have Orange Days on my Dramalist planned. Maybe I'll watch the movie while Im watching the anime.

Yes, that our Sakamoto. The cool, cooler, coolest boy in school. I'll probably finish next week and that makes me sad. I hope they do a live action.

I'm into Slice of Life, romance and sports genre manga fan. i rarely watch anime. You're list is of mainstream shows

Baby Steps romance is quite good but You're lie in april is highly bashed manga on 4chan. It's forced drama just kills all the feelings you might have.

Tonari no Seki Kun is a must watch. Also It has 8 episodes live-action show but no one so far translated it.

I avoid mainstream romance dramas because they force emotions on audience.

Sakamoto's manga ended several months ago and its final volume was also released 2 months ago.

0

I guess my shows are pretty mainstream. I wouldn't know. Most of my irl anime friends watch strictly shonen. And I'm not big in the anime community. I just search TV tropes for plots I like.

I forget about the romance in Baby Steps lol. I don't feel that way about Your Lie in April. I loved every moment and felt for every character, even the 4th friend who isn't that important. But it was probably just the show I needed at the moment and the arc was beautiful. Two brothers spent 10 minutes arguing why it was the worst show ever and I shouldn't ever recommend it. So to each their own I guess.

I miss Tonari no Seki-kun so much. One day, I'll watch the live action if my Japanese is good enough or I'm bored enough, kekeke.

Omo, I hadn't even thought about Sakamoto's manga. Yay! It's licensed. Now I have something to read when I finish the show. Thanks!

0

There's a Orange movie (released last December). Just watched it on my transatlantic flight last night.

It's okay. Watchable but nothing extraordinary. I only kept thinking what a great waste of Yamazaki Kento's acting abilities, both because it's a predictable story (and too long as a movie) and because the rest of the actors were greenish compared to him. I still remember him fondly from Kanseito (Control Tower) and wish his agency would stop foisting manga-adaptations on him.

0

@alua thanks for the warning. I won't have too high of expectations when I watch it.

Buzzer Beat is a great friends to lovers drama (Japanese).

Buzzer Beat is a definite good one. A Swinging Single (Dokushin Kizoku) was also good, inspired by the American movie Sabrina. It is like a reunion of the Buzzer Beat actors because Keiko Kitagawa and Hideaki Ito are in it, and Tomohisa Yamashita makes a cute cameo appearance.

But overall Japanese dramas have their own feel. I can't say I REALLY get into them. I watch them when there is nothing else to watch. Dramas currently airing that I am liking are Happy Mari (typical contract marriage drama) and A Girl and Three Sweethearts (A girl caught between three brothers). However, be warned that if a drama is currently airing, there is a chance that at some point along the way someone will stop subbing. It has happened before.

A Swinging Single sounds hilarious. I've been seeing Hapi Marine mentioned but I didn't know it was a contract marriage. Might watch it now that I know.

wow, I notice that you stuck on eps 5 of Nodame for long. Is it because the manga slapstick too much for you?
But you survive Sakamoto! I can even get over eps 2, it's too much for me (and here, I can even finish Princess D live action!!!)
Do you mean Orange anime? As I know the live action one is movie not series. Haven't watch it, only read the manga version and it really touch my heart. I will recommend Anohana if you like that type of story (anime, I don't really recommend the live action movie version) - or may be you already watched it since it an old anime.

What about L-dk Live action movie? Sakamoto is the Gary Stu of drama world.

Anyone here for Handa-Kun?

There are numerous manga to live action movies and most are same Either Rom-Com or Romantic Drama and majority Kdrama audience is into romance genre, they all should try Japanese movies before going into Jdoramas.

I personally find Korean Movies quality content compare to usual kdramas.

Sakamoto is so the Gary Stu. Every obstacle, I'm like "he's going to handle it perfectly." And then he still surprises me with how perfectly he handles it. If that makes any sense.
Thank you for the Hanka-kun information. I skipped over Barakamon in the past. But that's my current anime taste. So I'll check both out.

@CatoCat
I think what attract people on kdrama is not only the romance but the romantic scenes. The romance (story plot) on kdrama are almost same, but audience still come back because they want to watch OTP moments. Kdrama spend a lot of time to highlight small romantic gesture between OTP which jdorama or tdrama or cdrama don't have (even tdrama has steamy make out scene but just don't work for some). And if they looking for those over-romantic scene, I don't think they can find it in jmovie. Even like popular movie like KnT, Hanamizuki, Bokura ga Ita, their romantic scenes are rather low key compare to kdrama. Some jmovie are darker or have this 'retro' feel or has the same slapstick like jdorama (ie Judge, Ace Attorney), some I find feels like french movie.

I agree in term of quality (plotwise, acting), kmovie are better than kdrama. What I wonder is, if some people can handle slapstick and character's antiques in kmovie, why they can't for jdorama.

0

Yeah, I've been stuck on Nodame for a while. It's not so much the humor. I didn't know it was available on Crunchyroll until recently. I only have Crunchyroll on my phone, not my tablet too like I do Viki. So I can't be as mobile with it especially if the battery is low.

As to why it is the only Japanese show I'm behind on, I use an app called Twee which I set to tell me shows from the last 2 years that I'm behind on and NC is just too old to check off and feel that reward. Sad reason, I know but true. Lol

I don't know why Sakamoto clicked. The first episode, I was like really? And then I just had to keep watching.
Yay for the Princess Princess reference! I loved that anime but didn't get to finish the live action and then forgot about it.
Yes, orange the anime. Anohana interested me but I don't watch anything with ghosts so I had to give it up.

Even for Sakamoto manga, I can't even finish the 1st volume. If manga version does not work for me, then neither the anime. I guess it's because he is too perfect (same reason why I stop One Punch Man or why I prefer Donald Duck over Mickey Mouse).

Princess Princess D manga was fun, but live action series was so silly. In term of silliness, it even beat Ouran High School and Hana Kimi. It looks so low bugdet and watching it is like I'm torturing myself, I d

0

Ops, accidentally push submit button.
...
I don't know how I manage to finish that. What even more amazing is that was Takeru Sato over there, 'the' same Takeru Sato of Rurouni Kenshin!

Anohana is not really about ghost, if in Orange it's the letter then in Anohana it's the ghost, same premise on fixing the bond. I thought it was similar with Honey and Clover but not that complicated.

I see you're more into Shojou. I mostly read Shonen or Josei now, my Shojou days are over, just finish Last Game (cute manga about innocent pure love, I recommend it) so the one left is Skip Beat and Glass Mask (if the mangaka decide to finish it). Boy, if kdrama watcher complaint about have to wait for a day or 5 days for the next eps, they have no idea how it feel like to wait for a moths for another 20+ pages with no significant progress for a manga reader (worse when mangaka went on break or hiatus). And in term of jdorama, it one eps per week and waiting for eng sub can take months (while praying they will not drop it).

0

I can see that. Perfect can get annoying. I hear you on Donald Duck over Mickey Mouse. My favorite is Goofy.

I've only read some of Princess Princess manga, the part where Megumi, Mikoto's girlfriend shows up. I loved Day of Revolution and wanted anything that had to do with it. I think I watched PP first though, lol. Didn't finish Ouran live action either. That was so silly. It's been a few years so I don't remember which one was sillier. I just remember the translation ended abruptly.

I just looked up Takeru Sato and wow, he is gorgeous! He did not stand out that much in PP D for me.

I might do Anohana. There's just so much media, lol. Thanks for the clarification though. I've actually never seen Honey and Clover either. I need to work on my kdrama education and then my anime ?

Yes, shojo is my home. It made high school tolerable. Last Game sounds amazing! It has that rivalry I love Special A for. But the girl is the better one, yay. I go through manga obession like 3 times a year and just read as much as I can for a week. I'll try to space it out more evenly. I'd love to read Skip Beat. I think Kyouko is my favorite anime heroine ever. It was my first Taiwanese drama.

The wait is the reason I always look for completed mangas. Even borrowing older mangas for the librare was torture because there would always be volumes checked out so I'd have 1-5 or something waiting until 6 was returned. I don't know how true manga fans wait for it in sections.

It's great to know that you also like ISWAK and many of its versions.
You know... there're some certain dramas that you can not get over with, no matter how much older you get, throughout your fangirl life. :))
It was really nice that I can see ISWAK pop up here and there on open threads. <3

0

@amilia there's no date yet. It has been announced though. I follow Mike D'angelo on IG and he has posted some pictures implying they are getting ready to film. I hope it's early next year at least.

0

@bogoshipda haha, ISwaK should always be mentioned. Omo, if I ask about forced cohabitation, I'll never live my room. Friends to lovers and it are my fave genres. I've already learned about shows I probably would never have found myself kekeke
I see you're a big R97 fan. Me too. I wish that kcal could get back together for another show. And Eunji/Inguk chemistry was fire. They were my real life OTP for a while.
Yeah, I don't think INK will ever let me go. My best firmed told me about the anime/manga. But I started Playful Kiss first. I paused it to watch the anime. And ever since, I've tried to watch every version. It's to the point where my non Asian media-loving sister has seen part of 3 versions. She even watched most of 4 eps of ISwaK, which was unprecedented. My other sister loves Asian media and is doing better with learning Korean than me. Every time I tell her I've started another INK, she's just like see you in a few weeks. Lol

Question: Does anyone know why kdramas are so much more chaste compared to Taiwanese dramas?

Like in Taiwanese dramas they like really go at it with kiss/bed scenes. Is it a cultural difference?

Beanies! Is it a pre-requisite to have one's heart broken by a drama before one can become a true Kdrama fan? I have reached this milestone in my Kdrama watching experience.
Yes I'm talking about KBS cutting Beautiful Mind by 2 episodes ? This is why I normally try not to get too attached to things, the disappointment is awful!

I feel so sorry for Jang Hyuk Oppa who is doing a phenomenal job as Young Oh. Not only does he not get good ratings, which is a travesty in itself, but his show gets cut! Talk about kicking a puppy when it's down.

My husband thinks I'm crazy but I genuinely feel like KBS ripped part of my heart out, stomped on it and smushed it in poop. (Ok maybe slight exaggeration ?)

Surely I'm not alone in my experience? Beanies what dramas have given you heartbreak, whether it be from a bad ending, cut episodes, added episodes or writing gone mad? Share your stories Beanies and help me nurse my broken heart.

(This is not meant to start any war regarding any other dramas. I know BM isn't perfect and I'm enjoying other dramas too. I just feel very sad that BM is being unfairly punished by stinky KBS. Thank goodness I had a angsty but super sweet (kisses!!) episode of Hapi Mari to make me happy)

I'm right there with you. I only just started watching BM and I"m already caught up (and what a great episode to be caught up on). This is one show that just gets better every episode. Now I'm worried that the producers won't be able to maintain that for the rest of the run. I can't believe it's going to end in 2 weeks. So wrong!

Love Jin Sung and Young Ho, give me more.

Beautiful Mind is in my all time top 5 kdrama list but as a higher up i would have done the same thing. Responsibility lies with whole of management and they all need to take time-management lessons.

It aches my heart but at the same time i feel some anger towards Korean Audience too.

There are times when Anime production house collide with Tv Network so they release rest of the episodes online on their official site. Problem is productions house's majority of profit comes from Blu-ray Dvd sales so they can release the episodes online if they don't get broadcast time from the channel but same can't be said for Korean Channels.

Rather than cutting 2 episodes they should have tried to get idle air time. No Channel has content for 24hours a day and they repeat same content again and again. So time wasn't an issue to begin with. Issue was Money. Why waste money on a show when it isn't able to garner the attention of Customers aka Audience.

Been a long time since I got so angry over a drama cut... in fact, I don't think any of the dramas I like have been so cruelly given the short shrift. I feel for Jang Hyuk, the rest of the cast and crew who have worked so hard. Really pissed off.

Just for k-dramas, Heartless City made me rage with its second-half stupidity.

A return "Hug" from me, I share the exact same sentiment bemoaning of the cruel fate of our beloved BM.

I really love this drama, not only due to JH's sterling performance, but its content provides great food for thought and is mentally stimulating. It critically explores and exposes the dysfunctional minds of so called normal humans through the eyes of a supposedly dysfunctional person. There is a deja vu feel with another medical Jdorama I had watched many years ago, the difference is, the Jdorama denounced society through a little girl who was isolated and whose only true friend was a dog called Ryu or something like that. It's a pity I can no longer recall the name of this jdorama.

I'm not watching BM but can relate. I was super afraid they would do this to I Remember You because of the low ratings, which would have killed the show. They did it to Surplus Princess and it made the ending nonsensical. I'm sad that they're starting to do this more and more with kdramas. In the USA they would often cut a show after only 2 episodes if the ratings were bad, so I just stopped watching new shows so I wouldn't get attached to any just to have them cut. Terrible.

2 episodes?! Wow that's super harsh.
It's just ironic because some Kdramas need to be cut shorter and they have those weekenders/dailies that are HUNDREDS of episodes long but are slow moving like mad but they choose to cut a well plotted show by 2 episodes. Just because the ratings weren't that great. I'm still sore as you can see, even after waking up. Haha.

In the USA you also have the problem that the show may finish a season with a cliffhanger and not come back. Remember Heroes? The cheerleader jumped to show everyone her powers, and that was it. When the show finally came back last year I refused to watch.

But all I can think of at the moment is American shows that got cut short:
Jane By Design who does she end up with?!
Go On didn't even finish a season!
Young Justice just why?!
Guys with Kids I guess it's alright because Blackish happened instead
The Lying Game who is the villian?
Spectacular Spiderman it's been almost 7 years and I'm still not over it. One season? Only one season!!!

Yeah, never getting over some of these

I don't think I'd ever become attached to a drama again if they did it to me so many times. Then again I'm not a huge fan of the US style of multiple seasons because I feel it usually kills a show even if it was great in the first couple of seasons.

This is the first time I'm watching four current dramas at the same time and I feel so disoriented. I’m kept busy playing catch up with the new episodes and DB recaps to the point of being breathless. My mind is zoned out and no longer able to properly ruminate and digest what I’ve watched. So I rather not talk nonsensically about any dramas here except to express my deep disappointment over KBS’s cutting down of Beautiful Mind. I really love BM, it is a breeze watching the latest 2 eps, I did not get distracted, or had to pause to go do other things, or felt any urge to fast forward it. It is a shame that KBS is doing this to BM just when I am so invested in it. :(

OK instead, let’s discuss about the blatant Subway and Nivea PPL which is causing quite a bit of hooha in Beautiful Gong Shim DB recap recently. 

Which was the most successful product placement in earlier kdramas?
I guess it is probably the Polaris necklace in Winter Sonata. Try Google Polaris necklace, it is still on sale in ebay today, after almost 15 years! The original ones probably cost quite a lot, while imitations from all over Asia may cost as low as ten fifteen bucks.

Another PPL which caught my great interest is the Youk Shim Won paintings and merchandise featured in Fated To Love You, under the brand name of Ellie Kim (i.e. Jang Nara’s character). Though I’ve never walked into a YSW shop, I was quite delighted with the drama for introducing these colourful and vibrant artwork to the viewers.

Just to join in the fun of playing the “spot the PPL” game, here’s a list of recent dramas with PPL which are so obvious and deliberate:

Doctors - lip stick & samgyetong (instant Korean ginseng chicken in a plastic bag?)

One More Happy Ending - Almond nuts in pocket metal tin

Oh Hae Young Again - Pandora bracelet & that hi-tech rubbish disposal thingy under the sink in kitchen of OHY2

Beautiful Gong Shim - in addition to Subway & Nivea, I also noticed a Fitbit look alike device used by Gong Meanie when she did her work-out

Misaeng & Twenty Again - Double A (even A4 paper was given screen time! Lol )

In addition, there are all sorts of cars (BMW, Mercedes , Audi, and of course, Korea’s Hyundai & Kia) mobile phones, robot vacuum cleaners, wedding rings, watches, bags, furniture, running shoes, bicycles, etc. You name it and they have it in kdramas!

Well, thanks to PPL, I got to know of previously unheard of Korean brands such as Mandarin Duck bags, Parkland suits, and in earlier drams, The Face Shop, Lotte, etc. Though except for The Face Shop, I’ve not bought anything from the other brands. So is PPL an effective way of marketing? Probably, yes, as it is indeed a potent way of leaving a strong imprint on the subconscious minds of viewers. What are your thoughts?

Have a great weekend everyone ! :)

I keep reading articles on dramafever how PSH's bags/ lipsticks etc she used in doctors sold out in like a month. So expect a lot more ppl there

DOTS still wins for most annoying PPL, even if I can only pinpoint one scene.

About halfway through DOTS, I began skim-watching for development between the second leads. I just wanted to see them kiss already and figured it would be great because they had that tension-filled almost-kiss scene.

......I have never been so angry and incredulous as I was when I finally saw the scene they came up with for them that included the most ridiculous, dangerous, stupid car PPL I have ever seen.

Like seriously. I would rather a whole scene written just for PPL than have PPL intrude on and distract from an important romantic moment.

I generally don't pay much attention to PPL unless it's blatant like subway so I have probably forgotten a lot.

BM: Directory Kang in BM had the same watch like thing as Gong Mi I think.... I remember that both he and her checked a message on it after finishing their work out. Must have been requested by the company to do so. lol

Doctors: I was very distracted by Ji Hong playing with the arcade claw machine game (I don't know what this is actually called!) in his house. I doubt its PPL but it was so random I was wondering what on earth it was doing in a household with 2 men. I did make me go and play it in real life with my kid though. I didn't get anything and regretted wasting money on it immediately. haha.

Apart from BM & BGS, I think there is another drama showing off that watch-phone device too, you can listen to music, access internet, etc. I'm not surprised, must be one of the Samsung products.

Ya, I noticed that claw machine too!! When I saw KRW bending over that glass casing practicing "clawing" stuffed animals in his apartment, I was thinking, why on earth did he have such a machine installed at home, that is so weird! Those claws are very wobbly and flimsy, so it is nearly impossible to catch the stuffed toys unless you are a seasoned player.

I remember when the 2nd lead saw Jang Hyuk whisper in PSD character, she bumped to another doctor and her summer nivea refresher (I thought but said kind of like that by the other doctor) fall from her purse,

then the Bonjour cafe in W that also has their phone number in the wall perfectly seen when the character stand in front of it

I was complaining about kdrama dry spell just weeks ago, and then all of a sudden, I was drawn into watching 4 dramas concurrently, thanks to OT beanies who are sooooo.. good at promoting the dramas. This is quite mentally exhausting and time consuming too, so I'm resisting all temptation to pick up any new dramas for the time being.

Btw, I tried watching ep 1 of BBJX but gave it up. I do not want to rant about it here, as it is a matter of personal preference. So I've resorted to read the original novel. I'm into chapter 6 of book 1 now, so far so good. It is providing great insights into the nuances of characters, their thought processes, etc. Hopefully this will help me appreciate MLSHR and LJK's 4th Prince character more, provided the drama stays close to the original novel.

Required fields are marked *

BBJX takes a few eps to hit its stride, and you really have to be in the right mood for it, I think. I just recently finished it myself and I loved it, but the initial 'girl-time-travels-and-gains-a-harem-of-princes' impression is really misleading (and I really disliked the modern day portions and the frankly atrocious CGI). But I'm glad to hear you're enjoying the novel--are you reading it in Chinese or a translation?

0
1
reply

Required fields are marked *

I'm reading the original Chinese version. It was very lucky for me that one of the community libraries in my part of the world happened to have BBJX book 1 & 2 among their ultra small collection of foreign language books, it felt like striking lottery!

I generally don't like "sageuk" or martial arts shows, though strangely, I had read quite a few novels by famous HK novelist Jin Yong in my teenage years. Though reading Chinese is manageable, but since I've not been using the written form for a long time, certain parts of BBJX seems a bit difficult to understand. It uses quite a flowery and poetic style of writing, with frequent references to historical events and figures from previous eras. But the story itself is set in that reign of Qing Dynasty which is very well known, the emperor Kangxi and the 4th Prince that succeeded him are very famous historical figures. So I’m quite curious about how MLSHR could convincingly adapt this story wholesale, and applied it to Korea’s Goryeo Dynasty. So probably, MLSHR will turn out very different from the original novel afterall..

Might be even related to personal issues or the correct mood for you guys. That happens with me too. Though I was really excited for W, right now I'm just overwhelmed by it. Maybe need to be in the right mood to watch it.

I had wondered about that too, everyone seems to be living on instant ramyun in kdramas, from the poor to the ultra rich, students, salaried workers to CEO, even hallyu stars (for example, Shin Joon-young in UF). How come everyone looks so healthy and not suffering from malnutrition (probably with the exception of SJY who is dying).

Is ramyun completely Korean? I got the impression that ramyun originated from Japanese ramen (i.e. Nissin and Koka brands), but the Korean are the ones which made the spicy ones popular, like the Shin Ramyun from Nong Shim.

On stuff like OT, if it's aired, I think it's fair game to discuss, otherwise what's the point of it? It's what half of us come here for!

For the sake of people who aren't current on them, it's definitely good form to put a spoiler warning on your posts (so please do that!) but otherwise, I always find it more sensible to simply avoid places like OT until you finish watching a show like Signal (or I Remember You, Nine, etc - anything mysterious!)

0

reply

Required fields are marked *

its not fair game. Most of us here are international audiences (i think) so we don't really watch the show on tv when its airing and marathon much later. not to mention old shows which we discover bec of recommendations on OT.

And anyways its only for mystery or thriller shows that one needs to be careful not like 90% of the shows which are romcoms. Otherwise you basically make almost half of the DB site out of bounds for most people

one can write in such a way that does not spoil it for everyone else. Or use html tags and turn the text white with spoiler warning so people need to actually highlight to read it.

Don't be like - "SPOILER the monkey is actually a bunny" ...... People can't avoid reading such stuff even when they are quickly scrolling. just writing "spoiler" is not enough

0

I think it is fair games if the show has been out on tv. You can't control people from talking about it. Some looks forward to discussing it here and have questions to ask etc. Sometimes that's how you get to try out new shows from others' recommendations.
Subs are available online on the same day for most shows.

Most commenters here are sensible and would have spoiler warnings. You can also tell when to avoid one if you are behind. It goes both ways and I don't think it has been a problem here.

I find no harm in having spoiler on Open Thread. It's the only space for any random discussion so by implying that rule on this thread would restrict that freedom.

Now to think about it, I actually don't follow too many celebrities on insta, maybe because I don't understand Korean so I don't find their feed that interesting. I most would probably follow them if they have pet (yes I'm a crazy dog lady) and if they post variety of their normal / daily life snaps instead of just selfies. But if the drama withdrawal ends in few months, I went back to unfollow them. Unless it's Lee Soo Hyuk, because he's so so pretty.

2. Uncontrollably Fond : watched the 1st and 2nd ep but not quite drawn enough to continue. Maybe when i have free time. Suzy is pretty, Woo Bin is gorgeous but the story feels rather typical for me.

3. W - Two Worlds : just watched untill ep 2, WOW! The story is amazingly interesting. It makes u keep wondering what was happened, what is happening and what will happen next! Han Hyo Jo is cutee and pretty and Lee Jong Suk is charming as usual. He is a very talented actor with handsome lips. ;D

4. The Doctors : watched 1st and 2nd ep, why Park Shin Hye become so skinny?? I keep wondering this over and over again the whole time when watching the drama. D

This will make me sound like an ass but it's the general culture. The surface matters more than the reality. In some ways it is heartening to see the kind of exposure abuse gets. However it's just another symptom of the cultural preoccupation with image. Actual justice is impossible to achieve when even a false accusation means the destruction of a career.

Must remember some are just at an allegation phase. Nevertheless, if not criminal, certainly not honorable behavior. As for the broadcasting, the message I get is that honorable behavior is expected (in Korean dramas), although humans often fall short. In Hollywood, broadcasting message is that sleazy, skanky, deviant, tacky behavior is the norm. And some ppl in US buy into that. This is a main reason I watch Korean dramas.

His whole scandal is he said, she said but its fishy. They are both claiming and no joking...... here me out that she asked him to come to her house at 12 am-ish to change her blinds and she even gave him her pass code. He says the same that he went their to hear me out again...........change her blinds and changed them and left.

I mean how ridiculous can these claims get. I don't know who did what but when two adults change pass codes at 12 am to change blinds, I don't know how to respond to it without laughing.

As for Yoochun, he is being charged with solicitation of prostitution and again here me out, with fraud for failing to pay.......so its decided that he may be a guy with certain fetish but may not be a sex-offender.
I think K-drama stars need to date in public and avoid casual romance because it doesn't work for them.

Now I'm watching Let's Fight,Ghost which I like much. It kinda reminds me of "Just Like Heaven" movie and I have a feeling that Hyun-Ji is not dead but in a coma state, well that's what I hope for at least.

This week I'm going to start Uncontrollably Fond and W.

I am with you on Doctors - I finally gave up on it totally, and down to just skimming the recaps. W looks interesting, UF I am still undecided on - not bad, but I am becoming convinced that the girl is near-psycho.

Pinocchio is a must watch and its nothing like heirs. If you disliked heirs then dont watch doctors because its similarly cheesy and lame. Uncontrollably Fond is similar to winter sonata and i'm sorry i love you , it's slow and bittersweet, i'm loving it because of these nostalgic feels it gives me and its not your usual love story because the 2 leads are crazy psychos so watch it at your own risk.

Don't go anywhere near Doctors but start watching Pinoc.chio. That shiw is really good.

0

Can't resist to join.
Yes yes yes, you can safely watch Pinocchio. I rewatched it recently

(i'm really sorry >.<, my phone's keyboard is messing with me. It disappear so i touchthe submit button again)
and I love it. I didn't know I love it when I first saw the drama.

Thank you, wonderful beanies. I shall start Pinocchio now, keep a close watch over UF via recaps, and stay away from doctors. :)

Hi Everyone! ....... OT time once again!  I hope you are all doing well today!

Hoping javabeans' surgery was successful and that she is recovering well.

While I'm not watching Beautiful Mind, I'm sorry to hear it is being cut by a couple of episodes as I know it is a drama that is much loved by many.

Watched this week:

Lucky Romance - Count me in as a new Ryu Jun-yeol fan!  I have never seen him in anything else, so this is my first time watching him and he's absolutely fantastic!

Beautiful Gong-shim - I'm glad Gong-shim's sister was found out.  It's about time.

Wanted - Ok, so, I know the people in the drama know a child has been kidnapped, but you'd think they lost a pencil by the way they're acting.  Interestingly, I'm quite intrigued by everyone in it and the whole story.  A lot.

Doctors - Just watched the first two episodes.  Liking Park Shin-hye being all sassy and a little rebellious.  Kim Rae-won, well, it's always great to see him on the screen.

Uncontrollably Fond - It's going to be an interesting 3 months.

That's all for now. ....... Everyone take care and have a great Friday!

Hey everybody~

I'm loving Let's Fight Ghost, it's so creepy-cute and I'm a big sucker for urban fantasy. I look forward to when the overarching plot takes more prominence but I'm enjoying the cases of the week so far.

I'm excited to watch W - I don't care for either of the lead actors but the concept is fascinating and it comes from writers I trust. QIHYM forever!

Last of all I'm looking forward to Age of Youth debuting today. Korea really needs some good womances up in its drama when lately all it gives me is cattiness. GIVE ME THE GIRLFRIENDS, KOREA.

Is anyone else glad this week is over? I've been burying myself in Kdrama to escape reality, and I guess I'll have to keep doing it all the way to November. If Trump is elected, I don't know if I can bear the shame.

Currently airing

Just finished up Mirror of the Witch. Not a great show or even a good one, really. I thought it had some potential in the beginning, but it was always laughably out of its depth when it came to the court, so combined with technically proficient but soulless performances and oddly shallow directing, the second half was its death knell. I can’t even really get worked up over it the way I did over Arang’s decline into trendy nonsense, when it just tripped over itself in the end.

Thinking about giving W a try. I have conflicted feelings about the writer and the cast does not appeal to me over much, but the concept sounds fun. I am very very excited about Age of Youth—fingers crossed it doesn’t disappoint!!

Old shows

Comrades

Beautiful, beautiful drama. What is there to say that hasn’t already been said?

Garden of Heaven

This one doesn’t grab me as much as the others on this list, but whenever I need cheering up, this is my go-to. It’s not without its flaws and it might not be much to look at, but overall I think it’s a very solid production and it has the kind of sincerity and moral engagement that’s missing in kdrama these days.

Jung Do-jeon

I’d always wanted to watch a real sageuk about the fall of Goryeo and rise of Joseon, and was very excited to learn that the subs were available now (thanks Kiara <3). Now I am enjoying the hell out of this show. The dialogue is not as evocative or profound as the likes of Jung Ha-yeon, but the story is extremely well-structured, and Jung Hyun-min shows such a developed understanding of politics and the historical moment these characters find themselves in that it’s a joy to watch old men do what they do best in sageuk—scheming, sophistry, treachery and sacrifice, fighting to the death with words and smiles over everything and nothing. The directing is stylish, the OST is stuck in my head and I’m happy with that, and the acting is truly immense, making the ideological profoundly emotional and the tragic ecstatic, another must for great sageuk. Jo Jae-hyun and Yoo Dong-geun are totally blowing me away—they really seem to understand their characters on a level few roles can offer and fewer actors can achieve. And on top of that, Lee Bang-won was just introduced, in a way that encapsulated his figure so well that it makes me feel even more optimistic about where this is going. I’ve been fond of Ahn Jae-mo since I watched The King and I, and I feel like if anyone can portray such a sad/disturbing combination of ruthlessness and regret, he can.

Politics...I prefer it in sageuks. At least it's more interesting lol.

If it wasn't for Kim Kap-soo I wouldn't be watching the final episode. I guess I didn't miss out.

I'm a bit of a comic geek so W is the type of show I'd watch whether it's good or not. I do like Kim Eui-Sung, the movie actor who is playing the dad and that's about it.

I'm glad you are enjoying Jung Do-jeon. It might be the last real sageuk for a while. Jung Hyun-min did a lot of research for the film. I think the whole cast had to go through a history class taught by a history professor.
It took SFD to make me appreciate Ahn Jae-mo's performance. Bang-won loved his real mother and he didn't appreciate how she was tossed aside and forgotten in favor of his step-mother and her biological children.
Ahn was firm but did his best to be respectful.
I had to ff through some overacting in SFD. This was Goryeo not modern Korea.

I was disappointed in Dear Fair Lady Kong Shim for the simple fact that they pushed Kong Shim character's out of the way completely to focus on Dan Tae and his revenge plot. We never really witnessed her progression as a character, as symbolized by the awful wig that was present all drama long. In true kdrama fashion, everything miraculously changes for the title character at the last episode, with no real development in between. So many story lines that would signal her character development were just never brought up at all.

So much more to say, but it's all spoilery stuff .

Why is it that I find myself starting so many mew dramas and coming away from the first couple of episodes thinking, "wow, this drama is awesome!". Have there always been this many good dramas airing at one time? Has there ever been a time when practically all of the dramas airing at one time have been snoozefests or just not very good?

I am currently watching:
Let's Fight Ghost - I jump in fright and laugh out loud multiple times each episode. Taec's ears are adorable - makes me think of Gizmo from Gremlins for some reason. And drunk Hyun-ji? Kim So-hyun is killing it.

Uncontrollably Fond - come for the hype, stay for the abs. :)

W - omG, I just can't even... Those first 2 episodes and the ending of episode 2... Ahhhh!!!

TAsk Force 38 - omg, I just can't even... Those first 10 episodes and the ending of episode 10... Ahhhh!!! Oh, and SIG...sigh...

Doctors (Sponsored by Subway) - surprisingly my least favorite on the list but don't take that the wrong way - I am enjoying it very much! PSH is doing a terrific job and I love her clothes ;) The entire cast is so sweet and cute and, while I wouldn't want any of them to be my doctor, I would love to hang out with them on a Friday night. Oh, and can we do without the hospital politics? Not very compelling and gets in the way of the fun!

I am sad that I had to say goodbye to
Gong Shim (sponsored by Subway) - love that trio!

Lucky Romance - the story could've been a little better but RJY as Soo-ho made life worth living week after week.

Mirror of the Witch - I just loved this drama so much.

I have come to the realization that, while I love a good romance, I evidently prefer these quirkier, less formulaic, action/supernatural/mind-bendy thrillers more. And abs. I do love me some chocolate abs...

Unfortunately for far too many shows, the first two are the best, and in a few cases the ONLY good ones. Doctors is a good example of that - when I saw the first two episodes I was thinking "wow, this could be great" - but now I have given up even bothering with it. Far too many dramas seem to start strong and then just lapse back into the usual cheesy formula romance stuff with no actual plot.

But "binging" here means one or two shows a day between naps and incoherent drooling on the couch sessions thanks to the pain meds :) I've kept the list of recommendations and will watch them all at some point.

And I am recovering well and should be back to work soon.

Basically, that's all I've done this week. I watched maybe a half and episode of Mirror of the Witch, toyed with the idea of watching some more Beautiful Mind (sorry to hear about the cut!!) And waited on watching W. And waited.

Let's Fight Ghost was awesome, but I don't have dramafever premium so I'll deal with the week-behind thing. I *peeked* at the end comments for the recaps and I'm glad it's been good still.

Haaaahhh I'm just so glad we're in a drama flood and not a drought. It's always better to have too much... then you can go back and watch when there's nothing there, right? Or is it the opposite for you guys--having nothing new means finding gems in the older stuff perhaps.

Hi all:

Trying not to think of the current state of affairs in the US..sooo on to dramas.

W -- Oh my gosh!!!!!! I'm in love! What fun! And, if a viewer happens to be a writer, even more fun! Ah, these characters that take over our lives!

Squad 38 -- Well, that was an interesting turn of events. Who is the mysterious Chairman Kang, and what is the overarching scheme? Ah, tax caper turned vengeance kdrama, I love you!

Flower in Prison -- I'm on board this ship!

Let's fight, ghost -- silly fun but the editing/directing leaves much to be desired. All that cute got boring sometimes and felt like filler.

Wanted-- dear me! Seriously? I just want to say, "What's the rush, PD-Nim? Racing about from plot to plot and adding plot twist to plot surprises to convolution to more clandestine rich characters to culturally perceived weird characters does not an exciting plot make. I am worn out. I am bored. I am untouched. And the more our heroine cries and the more the show tries to tell us that we are all here for Hyun Woo, the more I feel the drama is doing what the show-within-the-show is doing. Sensationalizing without true characters, piling on piles on other piles.. And using it all as a commentary on news....nah, not working for me. I might just drop this now that W has arrived. I sincerely do not know why I'm watching.

Am currently marathoning Ghost which I never finished back in the day. Am also totally into the HBO show "The Night Of." Talk about riveting. And it just makes Wanted look so pitiful in comparison.

Have a great weekend, all.

"W Two Worlds" is one where I actually can't multitask, and watch the whole thing, and when it ends, I feel like I'm dropping back into the world. The cinematography is noticeable by itself--the lighting on the bridge, the intensity of the rain, the bloody hand drawing her through the screen; the plot asks so many questions that you can't possibly guess the ending yet, because you're not even sure all the questions have been asked (what a way to end ep 2!)

I'm also watching Taiwanese drama "Better Man," and loving it. The grandma is so fun! I'm kind of tired of the Dragon Lady type matriarch in Chinese fare, so she's a breath of fresh air. "Instructor" continues to be awesome and a great model of what a Chinese suitor could/should be (also a nice alternative from the grabby, possessive, controlling leads that often show up in such dramas). I just wish the subtitling came up as quickly as "W"'s does. Of course, with all kinds of awesome, it's no wonder that "W" comes up so quickly.

Lee Jong Suk is handsome in action. Lee Min Ho is handsome when still. It's a different kind of aura. Lee Jong Suk's micro smiles, his heart-wrenching honest when crying...gah!

Still watching "Five Children," thought it's winding down toward the finish now and feels a bit artificial in how they are keeping the happy endings delayed until the final episode rolls in. Still, it's been a 50 episode drama worth sticking with due to the actual nicety of the characters, similar in feel to "Better Man."

"Doctors" has an unreal amount of suitors; I agree with the teacher's assessment of "They're standing in line" or something as he comes up to her office door (I don't remember the details, just the "uhuh" response I had).

Taiwanese "Love @ Seventeen" is draggy. "Whirlwind Girl 2" doesn't have subs yet, but looks poorly plotted and overacted; they even made Ji Chang Wook look dull. Still, I guess acting in China is good for his bank account and his career. Hopefully he'll come back to a well-plotted Korean drama with a not-over-the-top love interest as well. Checked out Jdrama "Seisei suruhodo, Aishiteru," but it's an adultery, so ick. I rarely stick out a Jdrama; the last one I liked was "The Shape of a Family." I also liked "Clinic on the Sea." Not up to "Let's Fight Ghost" (don't want to endure the horror aspect for the cheap romance, and Ok Taecyeon has disappointed too often in the past) or "Uncontrollably Fond" (too much makjang).

At least I have "W" to look forward to!

"Better Man" is the story of how three brothers find "the other half of their apple." It starts by showcasing the differences: the oldest rides a bike, the youngest drives a car and is a favorite of granny, and the middle son rides a motorcycle. Their significant others are two sisters and a cousin (?...the Chinese call close family friends "auntie," so I'm not sure if the cousin's mother is really their aunt, or simply a close friend). The first and strongest story line if that of the middle son who is a drill sergeant type of guy running a survival camp where those who complete the camp can enter a raffle to win a trip to France. The sisters want to do this as a gift for their dad and auntie. At first the two don't like each other, but various misunderstandings and coincidences occur to change their views of each other. Lots of swoon-worthy gazes! Also, both of them show really admirable character traits of willingness to help strangers, open communication, willingness to accept hurt when turned down and still gracefully offer friendship. The second couple is the older brother and the youngest sister. He saved her from drowning as a child, so she's idolized him for years, although he doesn't know she was the kid he saved. Eventually events work out that she can work with him at his puzzle store, and their story begins. The third couple involves the youngest son who is the heir to the family because the other two boys are avoiding the responsibility like crazy. The sister's cousin is the secretary assigned to him by his father, and at first they hate each other, then they begin to work together, then they begin to get these odd feelings about each other that they try to ignore. The granny of the boys desperately wants her grandsons settled, so she meddles a bit, but everyone loves her, so it can be annoying, but it's not THAT kind of annoying. It's a daily drama, so it doesn't have the intensity of shorter dramas, but it has good, uplifting feels that carry you along.

The vast majority of Chinese and Taiwan dramas pretty much suck for me. Too artificial, cheesy, and just plain boring. The one exception I can think of is "Far Away Love", which is quite a bit better than most Chinese dramas, and even a bit better than some of the k-dramas. But overall there is good reason why k-dramas are more popular in China than Chinese dramas.

I totally agree; overacted, slapstick, little plot, lots of lag, usually. There are only a few Taiwanese dramas that really work for me. I really liked "In a Good Way." "Bromance" is more Kdrama style. And I like "Better Man." That might be Tender Huang's fault.

Happy Weekend
Good morning call
I thought this is an innocent drama and rather shallow but it's so real, not a tragedy but it tugged my heart, the 1st 3-4 episode may look like a well-made shojo drama but later I realise that I agree with the character and I care so much about them.

The problem arises quickly and even though it's predictable, it did well,
maybe I have a low expectation but I am sure liking it for now.

The Good Wife
I rewatch the US version again and I do like it. The original version gives more depth to secondary character since they planned it as seasonal series and S1 has 24 ep

The Korean version also impresses me so much, they emphasise the main story and the husband!! Yoo Ji Tae is killing this role!!
Yoon Kye Sang also really good in it, and I think Jeon Do Yeon did a very good job too.
I also liked how they make the "coming home speech" in court just as powerful as the original, even the line is almost exactly the same

W: catch up 2 episode, love the story progression, hope it continues to be this amazing and better each week

I think that's the big difference in the 2 version, the secondary character like Kalinda, Cary, Diane, Jackie and the kids (plus the variety of judge) described really good in the 1st half of S1

and the Korean version already go with the grey area for Tae Joon, Jong Won and Sangil just in 4 episode, they move really fast - -

but I still hope the Korean version will give moment for Kim Dan, Joon Ho interaction..later

As a teacher, I've had plenty of free time to enjoy dramas this summer. But the school year will start August 1st where I live. So I may have to drop some dramas. My current dramas (in order of preference) are:

1. W - Just blew my mind with the first two episodes. It started with a 8.6 rating and it went up to 9.5. Hope it keeps going up! I want to see interesting dramas rewarded with good viewership.

2. Flower in Prison - Unexpectedly good and engaging.

3. Bring it On Ghost - I am a sucker for ghost dramas. I don't have any complaints. It is both funny and scary when it needs to be.

4. Monster - It is cheeeeesy good. I don't know why I enjoy it so much.

5. Doctors - I fast forward through the hospital politics scenes. I'm still in it for Park Shin Hye.

6. Uncontrollably Fond - Ep 6 made me upset. Just going around in circles. Predictable story. I may drop it next week if the Tsundere act doesn't drop down a notch.

7. Five Kids - Fast forward through anything that is not Sang Min and Tae Min related.

8. Happy Mari - Japanese contract marriage drama. Short and sweet. Predictable but fills in the boring moments.

9. A Girl and Three Sweethearts - Japanese drama about a young woman wrapped up with three brothers. If she wasn't such a silly girl at times I may like it more. I'm sure that is her charm, but I don't like those types of female characters that much.

Will miss:

- Mirror of the Witch - Beautiful and sad ending
- My Beautiful Gong Shim - Seriously writer, did you have to ruin it at the last episode?

And for the first time I added a variety program to my list. 2 Days 1 Night --- Yoon Shi Yoon all the way!!! He seems so sweet and genuine in real life. Serious crush going on here.

Agreed especially on Uncontrollably Fond. EP 6 was total turn-off. I had to force myself finish it. Didn't like Suzy's talking mannerism. For Five Kids, I love Mi-jung actress giving out such a cheerful vibe.

W off to good start. Liking it so far..and... Han Hyo Joo looks so pretty with bangs, which likely a trend currently and imo she is the prettiest so far. It just suit well with her face. Wish that I can look as pretty as her, with bangs.

My current favorite are The Good Wife, Beautiful Mind and W going to be on the list too. I'm currently watching daily drama Apguejong Midnight Sun ✌? Jang Se Jin (The Promise) or her actual name Park Hana brought me to watch this drama..I really love this girl now, hope she can do sageuk. I think it will suit her. And the hero in this drama also so good looking. He looks a bit like Jang Geun Suk, maybe a bit manly? His name if I'm not mistaken Kim Eun Tak.

Queen InSoo looks like will have subs for all its episodes soon. (or is it actually already done? I cannot access Viki). I really love female centric drama especially if the actors are who I love. Cannot wait to watch this soon. ??

Hi everyone! Happy Friday.

Just finished watching ep 2 of W. So..so good. Han Hyo Joo totally owns the drama. For the first time ever I don't mind watching only the female lead on screen. I just can't get enough of her character! Am really hoping the story will continue to focus on her.

I've not seen much of HHJ aside from her movie about the changing face guys (can't remember the title) and guest appearance on 1n2d. Can anyone recommend other works by her? Thanks in advance.

UF continues to be heartwrenching. I really feel for Joon Young and his lonely struggle. Please let him have his happy moments soon. Boy needs XOXO

P.s. I've been a fan of Lee Jong Suk (his acting at least) since School but I can't help but wince everytime I see his face up-close. He's mighty good looking but there's something about his face that makes me feel uneasy but I'm not sure why. Does anyone else feel the same way as I do?

Han Hyo Joo was widely known for her drama Dong Yi. Started to love her in that drama. Honestly never like her other dramas. But it is sageuk drama, and 60 episodes. But I don't think it was a heavy sageuk and for non fans of sageuk, it is easy to watch.

For movies, probably you can try her movies with Go Soo and So Ji Sub (sorry I cannot remember the title, maybe you can search). She can do well in romcom, melodrama and sageuk in my opinion. ?

But thanks Ms Sera for all the recommendations. ? I should have plenty to watch while waiting for next Wednesday.

She was in the episode titled "Kimchi race" (maybe ep 123- not sure). It was funny because Haha threw her (he was the playboy hararo in those days and usually flirted with lady guests) and she screamed "BEAUTIFUL". She had short hair back then.

Forgot to add her movie Cold Eyes was quite good too.

Han Hyo Joo is one of the most versatile actresses out there according to me. I first saw her in Brilliant Legacy - that show has a special place for me. However, the chemistry between her and Lee Seung gi is something to look out for. The story is decent, with a little makjang but bearable. I personally love the romance here - my guilty pleasure.

But Dong Yi is a must watch - it's her career defining role. What an inspiring character - and she does full justice to it. Dong yi was strong, smart yet so full of grace and kindness. I think she pulled it of pretty well

I think these two shows pretty much show the kind of range she has.

On the movie front i have not watched much, but i liked her work in Love 911 (it's a must watch i believe) along with Always, and Heaven's Postman.

Han Hyo Joo was in the drama Brilliant Legacy/Shinning Inheritance with Lee Seunggi and Moon Chaewon. Surprisingly addictive. I enjoyed it more than I thought I would. I am not always a fan of melos.

Although I didn't like it as much, a lot have loved her film Heaven's Postman. I must say the film is pretty to look at.

Love 911 is also fun.

He’s mighty good looking but there’s something about his face that makes me feel uneasy but I’m not sure why.

After seeing older pictures of him, I know what that something is - a totally unnecessary nose job, and the urge to beat up the surgeon who actually thought his original nose needed work at all.

But he's a good enough actor that I forget about it in about half a minute, once he's in motion. Those soulful eyes make an excellent distraction!

Han Hyo-joo is really more of a movie actress than a drama one - barring Dong-yi, all her best roles have been in Chungmuro. Cold Eyes is one of her better roles, it's a change from the sweet wide-eyed heroines she used to play on tv (and in quite a few movies too).

Happy Friday! How upsetting to hear 'Beautiful Mind' being cut. Oh Well, at least there is something to ease my mind- loved new episodes of 'W'. They had the production press conference this week [The fact, Xsports News, OSEN]
PD Jung Dae-yoon worked on 'She was pretty' and the writer Song Jae-jung wrote 'Nine'.
About the drama, PD Jung said "'W' is the story of a man and woman who live in Seoul in 2016 in different world, meet and search for the reason for their existence. It consists of various genre- Suspense thriller, comic, horror and romance, and I hope family can watch having fun." He said that even though he has doubts if the viewers feel difficult to understand the drama dealing with two worlds of webtoon and reality, since genre like 'Signal' was successful, he feels optimistic and will help to make viewers understand by providing recap of previous episodes in the beginning of every episode. Also he said if Lee Jong-suk and Han Hyo-joo act well conveying feeling of connectibility, viewers might be able to follow their emotion-line easily."
PD Jung expressed his expectations as well as nervousness. "Actually we wanted to make half pre-production, but it didn't happen. We have completed 8 episodes...MBC CG team is working on editing and finishing touch fiercely. I will try hard so that it doesn't end with a disappointment."

About Kim Woo-bin who is in 'Uncontrollably Fond', Lee Jong-suk said KWB is like his forever soul partner and their relationship is more like 'surviving together' than 'competing each other'. "We are well-known best friends in the entertainment industry. Somehow our shows broadcast in the same time slot but we are not competing. We are cheering each other on, talking like "The one who does better should buy a meal." Woo-bin asked for my cameo in UF before I decided on the 'W'. I couldn't do it because our show was to air in the same time slot.. I didn't have a chance to watch UF due to my tight shooting schedule, but it looks like Woo-bin did lots of exercise looking at his pictures. I thought if I should take my top off too, but decided not to." (say what?!)

Han Hyo-joo came back to dramaland first time in 6 years after 'Dong yi'. "I am lucky to have interesting and good synopsis. This is the drama I am curious about what will come next and wait eagerly for the next script." Both of lead actors picked the charm of the 'W' is plot. Lee Jong-suk said "This is a project anyone might want to do it. It is honor because I think I won't be able to meet a project like this again. I wanted to do as soon as I received the synopsis. It is fun enough to feel anxious for the next episode and want more."

About the first impression Lee said of Han "She was white, long and pretty. Her way of talking is so attractive that I love and act whole-heartedly. Even though she is 2 years older than me, we are in same age group so I don't feel any burden. And I think we have good team work because Hyo-joo Noona treats me wisely"

And Han said "Because I am 2 years older than Lee Jong-suk ssi, I cut my front hair hoping even one year younger. I felt uneasy, but Jong-suk ssi treats me comfortably, so I am shooting having fun." She also said to expect some amazing kiss scenes. "There are lots of kiss scenes. More kiss scenes than I expected. I feel that some incredible kiss scenes will be born." (Yay!!don't disappoint us)

On question about UF and Suzy, Han said "It feels like society is encouraging the competition. I think what kind of drama we will make is more important than the competition. I've never thought about comparing myself to others. I am the type who only focus on my project, rather than comparing to other projects. I think it is more important to make a good project."

Lastly, In Naver special V apps, about ratings promise, Lee Jong-suk said "It is first time I do MBC miniseries. I moved to new agency recently and it is first time I work with this production company. If ratings go over 20%, actors along with staffs from the TV station, production company, agency will go to do some volunteer activity." And Han Hyo-joo said she'd join him and other actors also volunteered to be bodyguards. About other things, other actors said "Honey flows out from LJS and HHJ(=great chemistry)" and said the show is truly interesting.

Thanks for sharing. So happy to read their thoughts on the competition between W and UF. I'm a fan of both and I don't think it's fair to compare them as they are altogether different. The media are gonna have a great time pitting these two besties against one another.

I have yet to watch this JTBC's new drama 'Age of Youth'- 'a drama about Youth, by youth, for youth' and it had the production press conference (shows seem to have press conference 3 times - before, around mid-point, and after). [Xsports news, The fact, OSEN]
PD is Lee Tae-gon who worked on 'My love Eundong', and Writer is Park Yeon-sun who wrote the well-received drama 'Alone in Love' in 2012. The show's five leads are Han Ye-ri(Six flying dragons), Han Seung-yeon(Jang Bo-ri), Park Eun-bin(Secret door), Ryu Hwa-young(DotS, Come back Ajussi), and Park He-soo(YongPal).

About the drama PD Lee said "When I first received the synopsis, I thought it was very interesting, but very difficult. I worried if I could portray the story well, since it is the story about young women in their 20's, representing the youth of this era and since I am not one of them. But It was drama that I wanted to make at least once. Now I feel like I am on cloud nine even wondering if this is my happiest moment in my life. I am working not feeling tired at all (heh. how could you working with 5 beauties)...When I shoot this drama, I feel like I am filming a documentary. It approaches very realistically. It is right expression if we say we have fine combed. " About the casting, PD said "We decided many people through auditions. Han Ye-ri gave me quite an impression from the first shooting. I think I met good fitting actresses."

Actresses showed their affection toward the show. HanSY said "I think the daily topic in the plot will reach to many people's heart. I think viewers' lives and pasts will be shown in various ways in our drama. There were some parts which touched my heart when I watched the show's highlight video. It will be nice if viewers think 'oh I have poignant memory like that too' watching our drama. The strength of this drama is the story people can relate to. The more shooting we do, the more parts I feel relevant."

About other actresses HanYR said, "Hwa-young who has boyish and cool personality is impressive." HanSY said "Ye-ri unni has attractive voice and everywoman personality, but she also has her own relaxed nature and force, which makes her look so cool." ParkHS said "With five people who have different personalities and charms, I feel relaxed feeling other unni will fill my lacking part." HanSY said "Five people shared the burden, but everyone work hard to do own share." RyuHY said "I depend on Ye-ri unni because there are many scenes I work with her. And because Ye-ri unni and Seong-yeon unni are so pretty, I feel motivated for dieting. For He-soo, it is first time I have younger sister, so I worry about how I can treat her better."

About five actresses working together, HanSY said "Actually those concerns seem to make us kind (to each other). We try to match to the others even more and we've never talked about the problem (like what to wear). That shows our good set atmosphere we are shooting in. I...

That shows our good set atmosphere we are shooting in. I hope the viewers watch us favorably."

HanYR said "People seem to think that when there are many women gather together, there will be some trouble. So I thought my position is rather important. I didn't want to make such atmosphere or air. I hope everyone is healthy and able to finish the show without any trouble. Maybe because I am peace-maker thinking-wise, even if there is a trouble like that, all personalities are so good that I don't worry about it."

About the character each plays, HanYR said "I play a woman of steel character who works hard on part-time jobs to make a living. I have desire to depict Jin-myung in detail delicately. I felt that she is the person under the shade of youth. I thought I should tell her story. She was the character I loved the most when I read the scenario."

ParkEB plays the character who is polar opposite from her real self. She cut her hair for the role. "Short hair helps a lot for the 'Girl Sin Dong-yep'. This is a role I have not done before, so I am trying to approach with more energy. Personally I am different from Song Ji-won. Her way of thinking and action is completely opposite of me. Whenever I read the script, I am shocked. I think 'wow there is a person actually living like this?'. But since she is the character who gives out full of energy, I thought I should leave myself down for shooting. While shooting I part away from Park Eun-bi, and absorb new Song Ji-won. I hope people think I have good match to my character watching the show." PD Lee said "Her character is totally different from her, but I even wonder if she is real herself underneath - she is that good."

RyuHY said about Gang Yina character she plays, "My character is similar to my own DNA. I feel awkward to complement myself, but Gang character in the drama is sexy, has western style S-line body, and has attractive personality who doesn't need push and pull with men. She is like big sister with affection even though she pretends not being interested in other members. Please watch for my style and body because I worked hard on it."

About competing for ratings with 'Good wife', HanYR said "It is honor and good feeling getting noticed because it airs in same time slot as the good project with good sunbaenims. But as you see, average age is much lower in 'Age of Youth', and that is important because I think there are great energy we can relay to the viewers. Since we are shooting happily on the set, I think the happy atmosphere will be shown in the screen." RyuHY said "We are five people. And the charm each of us has is very colorful."

About ratings promise, ParkHS said "If ratings go over 3%, five of us will perform the hip dance of Kara. We will learn hard from Seong-yeon unni. I will learn starting from today." RyuHY said "I will make one for 4%. I will give out vitamin drinks to Yeon-se university students." ParkEB said "If it goes over 5%, I will make guest appearance in 'Aneun Hyungnim/brother I know' program. HanSY said "If it goes over 6%, I will invite 5 people to our 'share house' and throw a Jjajangmyun party." HanYR said "If it goes over 7%, I will share the beer with the viewers during drama-end party."

Hello beanies!
Had this huge thing going on with my college entrance exams with them getting cancelled and then postponed and a few being conducted again. Overall, the entire drama has been going on for over two months so college is probably going to start in October when they were supposed to start in August. Luckily(and hopefully) this will all be done by Sunday and I'll finally be free!
With all of that drama going on, I haven't been watching any dramas but I've been reading the recaps for crime squad 38 and I can't help but notice that all of the roles that Sooyoung has done so far have been independent and strong wome, not one of them so far has been a candy character!
I can't wait for my exams to finally be over cause I have major drama catching up to do!!!

Yay for sooyoung!!!
I personally think she is crazy beautiful and wisely building drama-resume with her roles. Public doesn't really acknowledge her being as snsd member turn to actress and i kinda love that (?) because it allows us to see her purely from her acting stances.

I keep wanting more of sooyoung char in 38 (her part is too little!) but the slow-burning revealing is making me anticipate more XD

I don't know why Sooyoung's agency doesn't throw their full weight behind her the way they do for far, far less talented idol-actors than her.

This is why idol casting sucks - it's all about the idol's image, which means the 'popular' ones get all the promotion even when they're pushed into acting projects but actually talented acting idols don't even get a look-in at the kind of projects the likes of (far less talented) Yoona and Suzy get offered.

As a Sooyoungster, it upset me so much how she is getting hate as an actress because of SM whereas the latter barely do anything for her. For My Spring Days, they even rejected the role whereas the PD wanted her and her too. He had to beg to get her on board. And look how it turned out to be. Number 1 in the timeslot with decent ratings. Just because she isnt one of their popular idols, they dont pay too much attention whereas seriously, Sooyoung is one of their best and so far, most successful idol actresses. I hope they will change after the drama is over because I really dont want to wait two years again for her next acting project !

Thanks a lot for the comments tho. It makes me really happy to see Sooyoung getting recognition :D.

Oh this i do know why. I suspect her being a not-so-beautiful member (hence the less popularity) makes her getting less promotion and hype from her agency. Which really upsets me because she is quite good. This Squad 38 role really makes me happy because she will get recognition she deserves.

SM is pushing the likes of Chanyeol. *shrug* At least they're taking care of DO.

All the best to Sooyoung, though, as she is impressive as an actress. Hope she (or SM?) also gives hosting a try. Have you guys seen her in old variety shows? She's hilarious in those.

KBS broke my heart by shortening my favorite drama Beautiful Mind! I tried to watch first ep of W yesterday but I keep thinking of BM when watching it so I am in no mood to continue that anymore. Also feel like giving up on 38PS coz I am just so upset!

Think I will nor touch Kdramas after I finish BM. Anyone can recommend some Jdramas perhaps? Something with a handsome and charismatic male lead who is broken on the inside preferably....

Depend on what genre you like and how "broken" they are. Some are (with broken main hero, not broken secondary characters)

-Mr. Brain: Kimura Takuya as host turn genius brain researcher/detective after having accident which damage his brain (and his personality)
-Galileo: Fukuyama Masaharu as sosiopath genius physic professor helping solve murder case.
-Last Hope: Masaki Aiba (Arashi) as doctor in medical drama. All doctors in the team has secret of their past.
-Mars: biker with traumatic past and a shy girl (you can try taiwan version with Vic Chou or recent jdorama with Taisuke Fujigaya).
-Soredemo Ikitte Yuku: Eita in emotional draining drama.
-Border: Oguri Shun as cop with a bullet in his head, has great sense of justice and will do anything to catch the suspect (by anything, I mean "anything" to the point of putting evidence in the suspect's room.
-Ouroboros: Oguri Shun and Ikuta Toma as yakuza and cop trying to find their teacher murderer.

Well, beware that those jdorama can go very dark. But if you looking for light romcom drama with typical kdrama hero with broken manner and personality a la Damyoji Tsukasa in Hanadan, you can start with Rich Man Poor Woman (another Oguri Shun, it has the kdrama feel on it) or Nodame Cantabile (Tamaki Hiroshi as Chiaki with his fly phobia and hit-and-throw-nodame tendency)

It is so difficult for me to keep away from W. I have a very important exam awaiting less than a month away, and i am keeping away from starting a new drama. It's so tempting...it's test of my perseverance and patience i think LOL. i have been waiting for this drama since eons, cause Han Hyo Joo is back! And now with all the reviews being more than positive, my anticipation is crossing limits. But i still have a firm resolve. Will keep away from everything related W - threads, discussions so that nothing tempts and most importantly spoils me.

I am holding myself together thinking that there is a lot to look forward to next month post my exam, which i have been preparing for very hard since the past year. I think the exam anxiety is catching upon me so bad, to the point of me freaking out hehe. I am just making myself feel better by telling myself it'll be over soon....i have done well all this time...let's just go through the next few days calmly. Breathing in and breathing out lol. Believe it or not i even say that i have W and Scarlet Heart and MDBC to look forward to post that haha. Oh the binge watch list is just growing more and more.

On the show front - Mirror of the Witch was the only show i was watching. Totally heartbroken by it. I can't even say how much. But i had such satisfied and content watch. I am a sucker for tragic stuff - so apparently this show is right up there amongst my favourites.

I sort of gave up on Beautiful Gong Shim post the episode where Dan Tae's rejects Gong Shim's confession. Something felt off right then, i could not see Dan Tae in that light. So should watch it post my super short hiatus with the dramas? I am so not into makjang mood and all. So will it be worth it?

Beautiful Gong Shim – *spoiler* I haven’t enjoyed a slice of life kdrama like this in a long time. Nam Goong Min as Dante was completely refreshing. I can keep Dante and Nam Gyoo Man in separate parts of my brain. I also loved that Gong Shim’s wig story line didn’t end up being this big transformation from ugly duckling to swan. The whole hair loss/stress issue was so normalized especially for a kdrama. My second lead syndrome was pretty strong with Joon Soo being the most unaffected chaebol there ever was. 100 points! But, I had to root for Dante and Gong Shim – they were so good for each other!  In the end sisters dating brothers works for me.

Love Song – (jdrama) so Kohei ended up being a pretty selfish older guy who took advantage of Sakura’s innocence. For a professional doc he really was a bum of a jerk. And to think that I wanted to like him. Yay for Sakura, though.

Sukina Hito ga Iru Koto (A Girl and Three Sweethearts) – (jdrama) – That wedding cake – so gorgeous! Two episodes in and the crossed love lines are already tangled, although living together in the same house and working together in the same place makes that highly likely. The three brothers have such different personalities; I like that Misaki is fairly self-aware but the living/work relationships are more complicated than she realizes. Which, I suppose includes the relationships among the brothers that we don’t know much about, yet.

38 Task Force – I can’t bear this week’s twist, noooo! The chairman really is THE Chairman and Jung Do is in cahoots with the baddies? Or is he? Please twist back this week kdrama!

W – Two Worlds – My mind sees everything as a webtoon except when Yeon Joo is with her father, Oh Sung Moo. How much of this is in his head and is he insane? Actress Han Hyo Joo is amazing! She is the glue that holds this kdrama, er – both worlds – together. Lee Jong Suk’s grin fills the screen and could that denim blue jay shirt be cuter on him?

Have a great weekend! \/

im also anticipating Cinderella and the four knights, reminds me of my shoujo manga reading days. they released two more teasers and by the looks of it im totally on board.it gives a better look at the drama. i love me some reverse harem with a spunky heroine filled with romance + cohabitation is bound to be fun to watch. loving PSD's new avatar, i can already tell im gonna be liking PSD and jung il woo pairing.

Its end of 1st semester and my 30 children are working hard for grades. Lol well they are my little students. I can hardly catch up to anything. But since I'm on a diet I don't get any sleep in an empty stomach. Weird isn't it? Does any of you experience it?
Dieting has a good side too that is I can cut 2-3 hours out of my sleep and watch dramas. Yay! But next wed- Thur I ain't gonna get any sleep because of W. Kyaaaa! So in love with this drama.
I have completed Mirror of the witch and I love its ending!!!!!
I am currently watching UF and W and of course Doctors!!!! Need to pick up a week end drama - any recommendation beanies?

I am a' worry about the future first' type of person ( partially ~) and this afternoon with the green tea I was wondering what turn will the story take when kang chul learns that he is a webtoon character, his life's tragedy is an artwork created for entertainment, his friends his thoughts his everything is a webtoon creation and now his life is in danger from his own creator?

Happy Friday, everyone! (which means only one thing these days other than an approaching weekend - it's Police Unit 38 time!).

And after last week, I can't wait - is Jung-do playing us all? And is Sung-il about to really be played? Someone made the very apt observation on the ep 7 or 8 recap that PU38 seems like it could exist in the same world as Misaeng - but with the constant manoeuvrings and underlying cynicism, I realised the tone of the drama actually falls somewhere between Misaeng and Heard It Through the Grapevine- a combination I didn't even realise was possible.

Also, W looks great, thank the drama gods. I don't have to spend ages waiting for an underwhelming and cliched plot to be done spinning its wheels to get to the good stuff, or left cold by the litany of calamities befalling the heroine. Looks like the QIHM/Nine magic is still there for now, and MBC managed not to muck it up.

I've reduced my drama watching quite a bit. Hope everyone is having a good week/end!

Just as an update I survived the horror of the family event (lots of fake smiles and hanging out with my niece who is 2). I had a date the following Wednesday and he was sweet. Definitely had some skills. I'll be seeing him again.

Drama Watch:

W - Holy friggin shit...they cannot keep this level of production up if they don't preproduce everything. I don't know how they will do it. I loved every bit of the effort they went to make the transitions between comic and reality effortless.

TF38 - Watching with the wonderful recappers on dramabeans so I'm almost caught up.

SEO IN GUUUK! *BWAHAHAHA LOVOOVEE ME*

Anyway! Awesome show and the performances by the character actors are wonderful. I smile every time they smirk as much as the work from MDS and SIG catch me.

Doctors - Losing interest more and more. I can't muster of the interest in anyone except PSH/cute side characters/second lead.

Uncontrollably Fond - Cute abs and pororo..that's all i remember from it but it works.

Completed:

Gong Shim
God dammit...what kind of idiot can't stick the landing! Especially on a show with this little plot!

Here's to dreaded events being in the past, and I'm glad you got through it ok :) (I had a suspicious mole check out as not actually suspicious after all, so I'm in the mood to treat myself to a few more dramas for once!)

I had exactly the same concern about W, and I have it every single time a really awesome show comes bursting right out the gate - had it for Misaeng and Grapevine too, but they kept up beautifully. I really hope W can do the same, and The Good Wife too.

Why is there so many things to watch! I can't keep up! My to-watch list keeps getting longer and longer. There'll never be an end to this madness.
At least my friend and I finally finished our The Hobbit/LotR marathon! Her love for Legolas (which turns out that my french accent pronounces it as Lego-Ass) is the best thing in my life right now.

Police Sqaud 38 is possibly my favourite drama that I am currently watching. The cast is out doing themselves and Seo Inguk keeps impressing me. He is just that good. Also my little shipper heart is beating like crazy everytime Jungdo and Sunghee interact.

I caught up on The Good Wife and I love it! So far, the writing has been a great mix of american and korean storytelling. Yoo Jitae is great as the husband. I actually love to hate him. I really want her to divorce him though.

The start of W: Two Worlds was magical. It sparked my imagination and I keep day dreaming about crossing universes. I adore Han Hyojoo! I always have to do a double take when she shows up on screen because I never seem to recognize her right away.

This week Uncontrollably Fond was a bit disappointing but still enjoyable. I really can't understand Junyoung's mother though. You would think that her son had kicked her puppy. How can she be so harsh.

Doctors I wonder if every time a drama calls for a cute eager puppy-like character, the PDs just automatically call up Kim Minsuk.

Wanted I keep watching this half asleep. Ji Hyunwoo shows up in my dreams. We work in a supermarket. There's been a murder and there is also a documentary crew à la The Office...

Finally, I am also marathoning:
Mirror of the Witch Ep13: love the fantasy: hate PyeongPyeong (that's what I call Yeonhwi's "Oraboni"). I am liking it so much better now that Yeonhwi is out using her powers and being badass. I was so proud of her for standing up for herself.

The jdrama Gochisousan is simply cute. Love the time period and the food. Omg so much food ^^

How did I manage to also watch the movie The Flu , the BBC series North and South, the new episode of Girl Meets World and a few episodes of Jackie Chan Adventures this week is beyond me.

Re; BBC North and South

If a girl do not fall for Richard Armitage after watching the North and South,,,, ,,she has a problem, I think.

Besides the almighty Richard Armitage, the story line is compelling. I like the female lead's strong character. This drama still signifies the current state of North and South in UK. The North is still considered poor and struggling while most of the nation's wealth concentrated on the Greater London area. However I love the landscape of the North in particular Yorkshire area.

It's officially weekend!!
These past few weeks OT has been a delightful reminding of upcoming weekend since it means time for Squad 38 and The Good Wife!!

Currently watching Doctors, W, Squad 38, The Good Wife & Age of Youth.

Just having reality check and realize that this is first time i have a week full watching schedule of kdrama. And theeeen this is also the very first time i watch 5 airing drama at the same time. Dear me i do have no life ?

Anw, Doctors really wakes me up of the harsh fact of second lead. Love Lee Sung Kyung's performance here; the subtle expression change and how she plays the char is enjoyable. But i do wish she becomes more than evil biatch second female lead who cockblocking main female lead's happiness. That type of second lead is so stale rn it really needs to go away :(

For US series
Mr. Robot season 2 is started! Anyone watching?
And plan to start Veep too. My brother keeps forcing me to watch this so i give in. In exchange of him willing to watch Signal after refusing to come any closer to any kdrama in a very long time lol. He thought that kdrama will be the same romance-y lovey dovey stuff. I don't blame him bcs kdrama airing in our national tv is all romance but it makes me sad how other good stuff (which i love so much) buried under that typical stuff and false impression :(

Veep is a cold drink on a hot day. Watch and savor it.

It's common for the more in depth works not to get as much exposure. Just be happy the internet makes it possible for us all to share in them anyway.

Okay back with jdrama rant.Though the only kdrama I've been following these days have got the nasty cut from kbs..this was nothing short a heartbreak, damn it.I was living for jang hyuk and park so dam's chemistry, for last two weeks, those short cute moments at the end of each episode were to die for, argh. I already feel like I got dumped or something, only fellow k-drama beanies can empathize I guess :'(.
Ok back to jdramas.I had started watching juhan shuttai!,and haru kuroki is too sweet! I was never into manga, but now the process and manga in making look quite interesting. Also everyone has bit of their own story so I did not get bored, yet. There's also the cutie from 'heroine disqualified',kentaro sakaguchi, who seems surprisingly different from the movie, hope he gets to lead in his own drama soon.
I have also seen two movies back to back, heroine disqualified [but dropped it midway], then tuned into another yamazaki kento movie 'orange'.Wow anyone who has not watched it yet is missing out.It brings back memory from past without no specific reason,a nostalgic piece with lots of heart and soul in it.Liked both of the leads, but yamazaki kento sure stands out in his portrayal of the much agonized and tormented kid.His guilts and regrets were quite apparent in his eyes.Have not seen that much expressive eyes lately yeah.
So that's pretty much about it,though I did watch princess jellyfish too,but was hoping for more from the ending.Masaki suda's acting as a cross dresser was perfect, and suda-rene nouinen have awesome chemistry together. But the movie failed to concise the story smoothly in two hours, only if it was a drama, not a movie,it would have been perfect probably.
I currently have only 'mare' in my drama list. It's a simple family drama with tao tsuchiya in lead.It has more of a vibe of 'anne of green gables'.I am a sucker for fictions/ so it helps that the drama's got 100 more episodes to go.
These are more focused on romance genre,so I've decided to check out the more serious ones, like death note[2006],or n no tame ni.It's quite amazing that the younger actors from japan are providing buzz worthy roles, and they experiment a lot in different genres..I am only new in the picture of j-industry,so expecting same or more from kdramaworld suddenly. Korean actors that I like are more stuck into romance/action genre,I have not seen any actors who did something different or unconventional all these years, only except for yoo ah in or kim soo hyun maybe.Or perhaps we need to blame the directors or writers for that.Nonetheless, as long as there are quality productions and acclamation for the ones that are praise worthy,it will be enough,I suppose.

I absolutely LOVE Mare! And that "Anne of Green Gables" vibe is the same one I am getting from Gochisousan. I love those kind of drama...probably because I am a huge Anne oGG fan. I am actually going to see the musical tomorrow lol

The male lead in Gochisousan is Anne Watanabe's husband! They have great chemistry and although he is not a fantastic actor, he is still good. I enjoy watching them on screen together. They are both sooo tall!

I know that he is her husband! But I've heard her in laws torture her a lot in the show,is that true? :S Or is it a fun show as mare? Thank you for the positive review!

Happy Friday everyone!

Gave up on Doctors after Ep 6. Started watching Let's Fight Ghost on M-T instead.

Have not picked up on any W-T show yet.

Squad 38 - a MUST watch for Fri-Sat

We are on the home stretch for Five Chidlren (Enough). A GOOD family drama. No makjang!!! The Kim Sang Min and Lee Yeon Do/Tae couple is cute but all the family dynamics are nicely played out. It has been a very enjoyable show overall!

So Sad to send off the goofy and Beautiful Gong Shim. First saw Minah in last fall's Sweet, Savage Family but she is adorable in BGS. Namgoong Min has been a crush of mine since i first saw him in Birth of a Million/Billionaire in about 6 or 7 years ago.

Am awaiting 2 kdrama to start.
Second to Last Love - Kim Hee Ae and Ji Jin Hee (sorry to hear he broke his nose in a filming accident! Awww that beautiful face.)

Jealousy Incarnate in August - Gong Hyo-Jin and Jo Jun Seok

Backlog to watch:
Signal

Something weird happened to me...
After watching Jang Hyuk BM and SIG Squad 38, I felt drawn into their acting style. Their micro expressions, eyes, voices and intonations like a magic to me. Just by looking at them, I felt understood what they were saying, even I don't understand the language. Then when I tried to watch another dramas, I felt somehow empty with the actors acting.

This problem makes me just watching 2 dramas right now. And I feel really really sad about what happened to BM.

Have you ever felt the same? and with whom?

Park Bo Gum in I Remember You and Yoon Shi Yoon in Mirror of the Witch - good lord those 2 have amazing expressive eyes.

PBG especially, because this was before R88 and he was considered a rookie. He appeared on screen and I thought, oh what a pretty boy is it another idol, and then he managed to change his facial expression from innocent to psycho mode in a second, and without exaggerating sleazy smirk or popping eyeballs that some less-talented actors do to portray villain.

@Mylittleb Ah that scene especially when Young Oh is saying as he cut himself on chest, are you feeling my pain yet? [or something close to that]..That scene is 'absolutely' brilliant,I don't know how many time I replayed that, huhu.
It's just all getting back to me now, the pain of loosing two episodes.Having withdrawal syndromes already while the drama has yet to finish it's run.

Dramabeans, thank you for the quick recap on PU38! You're all awesome! Hopimg that starting next week we could have the recap out after the ep is aired.

Ep 11 is just as brilliant! That scene after Ms.Noh said 'dump it', gosh, I feel like watching a movie, not a drama. And all the incidents on Jung Do's past being explained in only less than a minute, totally not makjang type. Yet, I could feel all the pain, heartbreak, and anger of Jung Do. I cried with you Jung Do-ah.

Once again, SIG is killing it as Jung Do. It's only half from the total run but SIG has shown so many emotions. A great con artist, indeed. A sexy con artist.

Can't wait for ep 12!

My beef this week is with wimpy female characters and/or screechy actresses. Maybe I should say this is always my beef, because I just couldn't get through "You're Beautiful" or "Playful Kiss" - those dramas where the female lead seems to say nothing but "Thank you" and "I'm sorry" don't do it for me. I also started pulling out of "Secret Garden" when the kick-ass heroine lost her chops as she fell in love. I realize I'm in the minority on these dramas but thought I'd honestly put that out there so y'all know my biases.

Uncontrollably Fond - Suzy should not play drunk scenes. She is absolutely horrible in them. I find nothing really to complain about in her acting when she is not in drunk scenes. The latest episode (6) was a complete flop for me, more for the writing/directing than for Suzy, but she did contribute to making it bad.

Doctors - badass character becomes wimpy. Might as well never have been badass at all. This is not the actress's fault. I dropped this drama some time ago because the plot couldn't carry me.

Bring It On, Ghost - Main female character incredibly cute first two episodes but has become increasingly whiny. Fingernails on the blackboard whiny in the last episode, acting like a five year old. This is a great production otherwise, so writers - stop infantilizing this character! Cute is one thing, whining another. This is coinciding with a general lethargy she is feeling, and weakness in her bodily. She was strong and sassy to begin with, physically and mentally, but is now becoming weak and whiny. I hope this trend does not continue.

Beautiful Mind - main female character is great. Somewhat naiive but genuinely cute. This actress reminds me a lot of the main actress from Cheese in the Trap, right down to some similar mannerisms. They look alike too.

W - the actress in episode 1 was over the top in the acting department and I thought we were in for a screechy ride but in episode 2 she got much better, so here's hoping she gets a chance to act rather than screech as she adjusts to her unique situation. I REALLY enjoyed episode 2.
