I'm on Hu Ge Land too! After Nirvana, I really cannot stop looking into his other dramas, especially the historical ones.
I'm halfway The Sound of Desert, but realized that his character is such a tragedy (oh curse you noble idiocy) and I feel so heartbroken for him to continue it knowing the end.
I wanna try Disguiser soon, and I hope he'll have some happiness there. Gawd, I cannot see him suffer anymore.

Turn out, nowdays I only watch drama with Yoo Seungho in it (not that I'm complaining).
Imaginary Cat keep its light and heartfelt approach. I appreciate the plot development (where are you, Bokgil-ah?), though I wouldn't mind watching YSH cuddling with the cat all episodes long. Love Bokkgil's snarky comment to her human. No one is as important as a cute fat fluffy orange cat.
Remember's first two eps are quite good. I like Park Minyoung and Yoo Seungho's character (and really glad they make her character as YSH's sunbae). Park Sungwoong already win me over within his first 5 minutes appearance with his satoori, bold colored suit, and conspiratorial wink. And Nam Gongmin definitely bring a cold-jerk-chaebol character into a whole diferent level. He make a very fabulous villain. I'm just a little uneasy thinking about how they'll fill a whole 24 eps with one case. But with a smart and crazy villain, I guess there'll be a lot of obstacles to explore. I hope this one will stay good till the end.
I'm still following Reply 1988 from DB recap (those 1,5 hour episode is just too much). I thought it'll be impossible to fall for Taek more than I already am. But then 'hurricane Taek' come with all his cuteness, blazing wide smile, and bold confession (Okay, it's only in front of his friend. But still, I don't expect that from the second lead). Now my heart completely torn between him and my poor Junghwan. Can't we just clone Doksun and give them one each so they'll have their own happy ending??

Just done watching I Have Lover with subs for last week's episodes! Omo HaeKang finally recovered her memories, but the bad memories ?? reading some text preview for epi 29. looks like she will back to old Hae Kang before the accident. ?But maybe she just pretending it? I dont know. She is just so mysterious. This drama right now seems to point that HK was a 'bad' person. seriously can't wait! I wanted to start on 6FD but I can't. I can just bear one heavy story at one time. ?
On the other note, I think Park Han Byeol (Kang Seol Ri) looks like Ha Ji Won a bit. I never liked KSR in this drama and never will. But I must credit PHB for successfully portraying KSR who is hated by all?
What can I say, I Have A Lover is a well written melodrama, so far. The plot is well balanced, not too fast and not dragging, being a 50 episodes drama, the progress is well. I wish it continues until the end. And kudos to main casts and all casts as well for their fantastic acting. Please this drama deserves awards, despite of its rating x doing well.?
Off to have date with my sexy Prof Bo Jin Yan. ????

Frankly speaking, this is first time that I have seen Ji Jin Hee as an awesome actor. I liked him is some of his previous works, but I am not fangirling over him. But this time he totally daebak in his role and made me love him.
I watched this first because of Kim Hyun Joo, which I have admired on her talent for a long time. But I must say both leads are gifted actors, and they amazed us on their daebak acting.

Happy Friday to All~ wow I've never been on early enough to post this soon...all thanks to this terrible cold that hasn't let me sleep!
So I started to go through some old drama's I haven't watched yet because I've got some extra time and I started Iljimae this past week. Oh, baby Yeo Jin Goo and Kim Yoo Jung are SO cute; I really hope they have a reunion drama together!! Lee Jun Ki is spectacular (as always) - his crying scenes are so heartfelt and real. I'm really liking the drama so far, I'm only half way, so hoping the fun and action continues!
Still watching Oh My Venus which is just plain squee-tastic and Love Me If You Dare is getting into the nitty gritty stuff with the cases but sometimes I stop paying attention cause I'm staring at Wallace's hottness so much, I have to go back and re-watch to understand what's going on LOL.

Happy Friday!
Yesterday company officially sent out an email to all employees to do less YouTube, Facebook, personal email and web surfing. heh.
E news for this week:
1. Shin Eun-kyung(village) is still in big trouble. She is being accused of various things(JB mentioned in a Village post). A related party commented "Her acting is good, but everything else is not." To me, actor/actress's acting skill is what matters (as long as they don't harm others). Do you think they have to have no-fault personality/personal life?
2. Yoon Eun-hae(coffee prince) was/is? in hot water. She finally officially apologized after dragging off so long. She has been accused of copying apparels in her show since September. Sigh. When is she going to have good luck?
3. Hwang Jung-eum(She was pretty) and her new rich golfer bf, and Her long-time ex-boyfriend(2007 to this year) and his new gf- Do they really worth endless news items?
4. Korea Life Style Award(KOLSA) were given in the area in living style, fashion, beauty, design etc. This year's entertainer award went to Park Hae-jin(You from another star). I LOLed? best dresser/fashionable award went to Lee Dong-hwi(DongRyong) of reply 88. I will watch for his outfits(Does this include high school uniform? heh) in the show for sure!
5. LOL-The girl group Oh-my-girl were detained in LA airport for over 10 hours (and returned to Korea). According to agency, they went to film new album and stuff. US Custom asked what is the relationship between the girl group and staffs, and one of staff said 'sister', and they thought it was suspicious (Their outfits and belongings didn't help), and misunderstood them as the working girl. LOL(or should I be sad)
6.I always get tickled when I see an article about a couple created by a drama we watch. Jo Bo-ah and On Joo-wan(Surplus princess) -such a cute pair (They look like dolls~). I am glad Jo Bo-ah is getting noticed these days (Please mom).

Drama-wise:
I watch many, but:
Reply 1988:
JungHwan's family and actors: Jung-hwan/Ryu JoonYeol and his hyung JungBong/An JeHong were both born in 1986 (29 years old), and their father actor Kim SungKyun was born in 1980 - only 6 years older than their sons. heh.
Lee Dong-hwi/DongRyong: A Knet posted suspicion that DongRyong will become famous MC Yoo JaeSuk later. He noted that DR's father is a government employee and dreams of being a comedian. And DR is interested in dancing and fashion - which all match to YJS. How interesting!
I have a lover:
Who has the most nick among all male leads? Ji Jin-hee is the no.1 nickname collector.
His line 'Lunch, if I ask you, could you eat with me' earned him 'Heart racer'
His line 'She is my wife, I just know. Just know. My wife' earned him 'Preference target man'
Lines of direct love confessions earned him 'Love sickness architect'
Busy running around to find the truth for his wife earned him 'Detective Choi Sherlock'. lol.
JJH mentioned that his most memorable work in his 30's is DaeJangGeum and one in his 40's is 'I have a Lover' (which tells a lot). He said he is so into his role, he even has mental war with his rival Lee Kyu-han over KHJ outside of filming. heh.
Btw his partner Kim Hyun-joo already received the award for her role-Top Excellence Award, Actress in a Serial Drama https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/4th_APAN_Star_Awards
Waiting to watch Splash splash love: Why this is only 2 episodes? Why why why?
Kim Seul-gi was chosen as No 4 who is veteran actor/actress, but not recognized forever(until now) -per TVN name disclose 2015 show. She mentioned she was poor when she was growing up, and her parents objected her pursuing acting 'you can study acting because it costs money' so she thought to give up one time.
One more rant: Despite all the great pairs in the dramas currently, my favorite couple is Lee Dong-wook and Jung Ryo-won from Bubblegum -how can they look so sweet?

I'm waiting for Splish Splash love too! Can't wait to see Kim Seul-gi as lead in something, even if it is only 2 episodes. And Yoon Doojoon is quite a good actor (also ridiculously handsome, without the tweaked plastic surgery look idols often get). I'm wondering if he'll do well in a sageuk, but at least he looks good in the king's robes. Sad to hear Kim Seul-gi was poor growing up, but she must have been very determined and hardworking, to get on the cast of SNL Korea at such a young age. I hope she gets even more successful now!
Also glad to hear Jo Bo-ah is drawing positive attention for her role in the weekend drama. She was great in Surplus Princess and utterly adorable with Kim Seul-gi, I hope both girls go on to be really successful.

Shin Eun-kyung is sued by her ex-agency(president Go of Run Enter) and she sued the agency also (defamation), and issues keep popping up about her past activities- She is about to be called Nation's liar:
1. Fake motherly love
2. Luxury shopping
3. Debt related to ex-husband
4. Over-top expense on an overseas travel.
First, Shin's ex mother-in-law is taking care of her son. She said she has been taking care of him since her son's divorce in 2007. She said Shin visited her son only two times in last 8 years, and did not pay child support for last 5 years. Shin's son is sick(Hydrocephalus etc) and she is 87 years old so it has been hard on her.
Shin argues that is not true and her mother has been paying money needed for hospital expenses and stuff.
Second, While filming 'Flame of Desire'(I watched this too!), she went shopping in a department store. Shin did shopping for about $118,000, but did not pay (Cashier allowed her to be on credit). She paid portion later, but cashier ended up being fired. Shin said she was going to pay after the show, but drama scheduling was changed and stuff. But she said the cashier said it was ok, and cheered her to live well.
Third, Shin says she is still paying off ex-husband's debt. She married to the president of a well known enter agency in 2003 (I remember this!), but divorced in 2007, and her husband went bankrupt, and she has been paying his debt. But his friend insisted that he paid off that debt, and Shin never paid anything.
Fourth, Ex agency said she made 27Uk Won but she spent 30Uk won (1Uk Won is a little over $100,000).
She went on luxury Hawaii trip and she spent $52000 (if calculate $1=1000 won) which agency had to pay using 5 credit cards. President Go insisted while Shin was working with her for 4 years, she paid Shin's debt which was over $1M. In different program, her ex manager also stated that Shin asked for even cat food and plastic surgery expenses.
After all this, Shin said money problem can be solved by money, and law problem she can take responsible, but people saying to her son that he was born to a bad person really hurts.

Hi Everyone! ....... I hope you are all doing well today.
Watched this week:
Six Flying Dragons - I'm up to episode 12 of this. ..... It is absolutely fantastic! There's not a wasted minute in this drama. ...... Truly enjoying everything about it. An episode barely ends and I'm already looking forward to the next one. ..... And apparently I've been living under a rock, because I had never heard of or seen Byun Yo-han until this. Yeah he's good. ..... Then again, who isn't in this drama?
Village: Secret of Achiara - Watched 15 minutes of who knows what episode. All I remember is that lights in a hallway were flickering.
She Was Pretty - 2 more episodes to go. ....... You know, Choi Siwon, I swear, that role is suiting him oh so well.
Oh My Venus - So Ji-sub. ...... Ok, I admit it. I checked it out for the shallowest of reasons. *giggle* ...... I only watched the first ep, but it wasn't all that bad actually. I want to watch more episodes but I just have to find the time to fit them in the schedule.
That's about it for now. ........ Everyone take care and have a great Friday!

seconding this! Arang & the Magistrate had a lovely OST, and the background music was perfectly chosen.
I spend a lot of time wishing kdramas would stick to using their instrumental OSTs during major scenes instead of going for loud, vocal-showoffy pop songs (Arang was guilty of that too).
Sometimes the pop songs in question match the mood of the scene, like Auditory Hallucination in Kill Me Heal Me or the pop songs of the Answer Me series (1997 killed me a little with the intro to We Meet Again at Shi-won and Yoon-jae's accidental coffee-shop run-in, and with Deli Spice's Confession during their kiss scenes), but more often than not they don't.

I loved the Arang Love Theme so much I made it one of my ring tones.
And I agree with you about pop songs interrupting the mood of some scenes, especially when they seem more like vanity project songs because one of the drama's actors is the vocalist.

One of my all time favourite is Ijimae OST Lonely Footstep piano solo by Ryo Yoshimata. Since you like Prime Minister and I OST, I reckon you like sentimental instrumental music. Go check Ryo Yoshimata out, he composed quite a number of very nice OST for Japanese movies and dramas over the years, the most famous one is the OST of movie Calmi Cuori Appassionati (Reisei to Jōnetsu no Aida, i.e. Between Calmness and Passion)

Oh yes, there is Korean pianist Yimura too, Kiss The Rain from Summer Scent OST is a classic! I was quite surprised when I heard a non-Asian street musician played the tune on violin as I walked pass a busy mall here.

Other people has mentioned some recent series. so let me just recommend the old classic Winter Sonata. The OSTs (instrumental or not) are some of the most beautiful collections of soundtracks, if you are in a melo mood, that is.

I finally finished Punch. Binge-watching it for three days and IT'S SO WORTH IT OHMYGOD SO SO GOOD!! The whole shows are consistent, slick, smart, heartwarming and tear-jerking. I believe i curse the show as much as i cry over it lol. Like seriously, Kim Rae Won and that cute lil girl who plays Yerin deserve the greatest possible award . Wait, i think the whole cast deserves it too haha everyone is so good. Love the ending and as much as it is depressing, it's also thought-provoking. Living in a country in which corruption still running rampant, after this i will never ever believe anything that comes out of the news :/
Still haven't watched any current drama but after the intensity that is Punch, i really consider to pick up Bubblegum and Reply 1988. Need to wash away the dark and twisted Junghwan with the light one from reply i guess hihi.
On varshow - Last week was the last episode of Kim Joohyeok and it's so sad so send him away like that :( I love him and how he fits so well in the group, being oldest but cute hyung makes him really charming. I guess another reason to start reply so i can see him a bit more ?
Btw, i am still 23 and in these two weeks only, i have attended two weddings of my friends. How that even makes sense is beyond me.
Anyway, enjoy you weekend beanies!

Hi beanies,
Still don't know how its December already
Just started watching Six flying dragons, im on the third episode now, finally Finished SHUT UP FLOWER BOY BAND wow, amazing except for the acting of one bro(L),but the bromance was so bromantic that i over looked it.Discovered one Gem Lee hyeon jae,for the life of me, i can't understand why he isn't in more dramas, i looked him up and he is so dreamy (oh God, first time using the word dreamy?,its not a word i ever thought id use)If it's possible he keeps getting better looking as he grows older,Lee min ho who?
Speaking of looks,is it just me who hears about Won bins looks but haven't seen him in anything?Someone recommended a drama or movie.
MY BEAUTIFUL BRIDE, i liked it although i don't know how i feel about the ending, im torn between hating and loving it.
EXO NEXT DOOR, i started watching just so i can look at KAI but he's in it for 10 seconds ?expected silly fluff but it wasn't, it was actually fun especially SEHUN's character and the wacky brother.
Currently enjoying OH MY VENUS but something is missing in this drama, BROMANCE if the cheese doesn't kill me and REPLY 1988, my heart is breaking for Jung Hwan?He has to be the husband or else??

Watched BEAUTY INSIDE reminded me of SENSE8 with the out of norm thinking but i feel if i were too vote believability, the Later would have my vote.

If you want a Won Bin movie rec and don't hate action movies, try Ajusshi aka The Man From Nowhere.
I couldn't see the big deal about Won Bin's looks either, until I saw him in motion. I was sunk after that.
And yeah, SUFBB was so good that L's not being such a good actor didn't even matter (it also helped that he wasn't the lead). That was a great bromance, all around.
And I also watched Exo Next Door! It's so dumb and cheesy and I still don't remember more than two or three members' names, but the female lead was adorable and the bromance between her little bro and Sehun (?) was cute enough to keep me watching.

I hear you on not getting sucked into kpop. I like a couple of groups and artists but kpop fans are often batshit insane. The specimens who come here and throw tantrums/issue threats when their idols are criticised for horrible acting are enough to put me off wanting to ever interact with them on 'home ground', so to speak.

I mean, how sad do you have to be to basically issue threats to someone for bitching out a poor acting performance by some celeb you've never even interacted with?

Hey everybody, how's it going?
I took a break from K-drama after all the disappointments this year (KMHM, Smelly Girl, High Society, Ex-Girlfriend Club, Mask, Falling for Innocence, School 2015, Producer, Mrs. Cop, Yong Pal, The Time, She Was Pretty, D-Day, ...) and found it difficult to get back once the desensitisation wears off.
Luckily, Reply 1988 came along. The scene writing and directing is impeccable (the first 6-7 episodes, the quality dropped significantly since then), the character design is fantastic and the acting is outstanding.

Yes, I think you might like Awl but don't expect too much. I loved the first eps but later thought they didn't develop the characters like I expected and just kept showing the fight with the company and how hard to build the union would be, which they did very well, they never go for the easy choices and it's very realistic in that area.
I'm going to give this Reply 1988 a chance if even you are liking this. :)

I also think the later episodes of Reply decline in writing quality. The plot becomes convoluted for its own good, the multi-arc starts to backfire, and it seems harder to tie those up at the end of every episode. I hope it will not get worse. Nevertheless, it's still imo the best show airing right now and I enjoy it.

ha, ginger and lemon tea is all we have here too! Ginger tea especially, I find it really soothing in winter. My mother likes to throw a couple of cardamom pods into the kettle along with all the ginger and tea leaves, and it adds a really nice flavour to things - it's not much of a recipe, but it works.
There's also mint tea, if you want a new flavour - we add a few mint leaves (maybe 1 tablespoon?) to 2 cups of water and then heat the lot, and add the tea leaves after the water turns a bit green/tastes minty. Bring the lot to a boil, and then add milk/sugar if you want (I usually take mine with).

-brew Earl Grey tea (any black tea)

-mix all together in large teacup

Chamomile tea is a life saver for me, it soothes and calms my stomach when I'm suffering from ibs flare-ups. Ginger is great for reducing bloatedness too. I used to drink lemon water on empty stomach first thing in the morning, but unfortunately, my stomach was not strong enough. The acidity caused me to develop an ulcer a year ago, after which I have stopped taking all kinds of citrus fruits.
Here's my favourite recipe:
Brew chamomile tea from a tea bag (Celestial / Pukka are the best, Twinings will do too), add a few table spoonful of unsweetened almond milk or rice milk or soy milk, I use them interchangeably, then add a dash of cinnamon and vanilla. Add honey if you like it sweet.

–Go to a Korean shop and buy honey-quince or honey-citrus tea (comes in jars, you just add hot water). I think there's a plum version too.
–hibiscus flowers (if you just want fruity) or hibiscus flowers + ginger (fruity with a spicy kick). You can do the same with rosehips (though I prefer hibiscus).
–rose flower tea (if you want something really perfumey)
–chai (lots of recipes on Pinterest)
–if you've got a Chinese/Asian shop anywhere, you could look for bael fruit and make tea with that. And look around what other teas they have, e.g. roast barley tea. It's fun to try new things!
–I also like any mint tea, chamomile, lemon balm, lemongrass. Sometimes lavender (quite strong – prefer to make lavender lemonade in the summer) or sage (if I remember correctly, don't drink it if you're pregnant/breastfeeding).
I don't know where you live, but is there any specialised tea shop or organic food shop that you could go to? I tend to get my tea in those kind of stores. They often have loose herbs and can mix teas for you (fruit, herbal, black, green, etc). You could look for bamboo leaf tea, honeybush (or the better known rooibos), elderflower, Albanian/Greek mountain tea, etc.
I also buy a lot of pre-mixed teas from some European companies, e.g. Sonnentor. That probably doesn't help you, but if you download their product catalogue (http://en.sonnentor.com/en2/our_products/product_lines/tea, see page 23 & following) you might get some other ideas for what to drink!

I have a habit of buying food that I don't know. That's how you discover new things.
My parents (who are often in Asia) do the same – I think my Dad first picked up bael fruit in Thailand. (I will say I usually drink it in the summer, cold, with some lemon added.) If you've got Indian stores, you could try looking for kahwa tea which is a Kashmiri green tea – you make it with spices (cardamom, saffron) & chopped up almonds. I'm not sure how easily available it is though (my Dad used to work in Kashmir, so we got it from spice vendors there). I suppose you could make something similar substituting other kinds of green tea.
I also had Korean almond/walnut/job's tears tea recently – you can google it easily. I had the powdered version of it, but it would seem nicer to make from scratch (avoiding the additives).

Finished my re-watch of Answer Me 1997 this week, which was interesting since I'm also watching 1988. It was really an effort to get over missing Sassy Go Go, and now I'm honestly at a loss about which pairing I love more - Lee Won-geun/Jung Eun-ji, or Seo In-gook/Jung Eun-ji. And I've seen it all before, but was still gutted in parts, episode 12 in particular actually hurt to watch.
As for 1988, I've been Taekked, good and proper. But still pretty sure Jung-hwan is the husband, there is no way that 2015 Kim Joo-hyuk can be anyone but Jung-hwan.
Looking forward to Splish Splash Love, I can't wait until it gets subbed. I freely admit, I'm in this one for the OTP - they look adorable together.

I know, ep 1-2 set up Sun-woo as a romantic red herring but in ep 9-10, Taek really got me. I'm not picking sides either, but he doesn't look like the completely helpless baby pushover we thought he initially was. At least he'll give Jung-hwan something to actually worry about!
The red herring setup actually echoes 1997, which initially had Yoon-jae freaking out over a possible Joon-hee/Shi-won pairing, before we get told that that isn't even a possibility and the much bigger threat is none other than hyung (which Yoon-jae, like Jung-hwan here, doesn't realise until hyung told him himself).
And I also noticed that Jung-hwan is something of a spiritual successor to Yoon-jae, though Jung-hwan/Seok-sun aren't as incredibly close to each other as Shi-won/Yoon-jae were. It's more like he's one of Deok-sun's group of childhood friends, while Shi-won and Yoon-jae were each other's #1.

I hadn't actually thought about that comparison, but it makes sense! Can completely see what you mean. Yeah I thought pretty early that Sun-Woo was going to be a red herring. It seemed to obvious and easy for it to be true.
I can see what you mean about Teak. I dfinitively think that there is some things he can't really do, due to being pretty much baduk and nothing else in his life. But I also feel like part of him just got used to the others treating him like that, and not non of them can break out of it. They all baby him, and it seems like Teak both need it at times, but also let them baby him. I'm not sure the group wouldn't know what to do if he suddenly "turned capable". On other things than baduk and crubics cubes ;)
I actually really like how, while the husband hunt is obviously present, it's not all consuming for the episodes. I love the firendship groups, botht that of the kids and the adults.

It is so obvious that Jung-hwan is the husband just by the way the 2015 Deok-sun and husband are bickering. It is their style of communicating with each other in 1988. It can't be Taek, who is meek and obliging.

I know, the choice is absolutely impossible but I can't argue with that - Yeol/Yeon-doo are certainly more mature than Shi-won/Yoon-jae! Especially when it comes to dealing with obstacles to their relationship (Yeol did not for a second entertain the thought of one-sidedly giving up Yeon-doo when he learned their parents were dating or that Ha-joon liked her too).
I also noticed that while both Eunji's characters fit into the spunky everygirl archetype, Yeon-doo doesn't feel like Shi-won at all, even minus the Busan accent. Points to her for that, and to the writer for resisting the temptation to write a Shi-won mk. II.

I wanted to rerun Answer Me 1997 but ended watching 1994 instead LOL.
Watching it again after Answer Me 1988 really makes me realize that my heart loves 1994 alot more than my head would allow. Like I finally could see what was wrong but I still love it. If only they didn't drag the husband hunting so much and forgot about what makes this drama special at the first place......
I don't know if it's because I was watching Answer Me 1997 right after 1994 that I couldn't remember alot except for my love Jung Eun-ji that's why I thought I really have to rerun it after this. So for now my vote still goes to Lee Won-geun and Jung Eun-ji a.k.a the chipmunk couple.

yeah, the 1994 husband hunt was what really annoyed me (the excessive length too, but I honestly didn't mind it at first). 1997 did have its latter-half flaws, but the shorter episodes packed more of a punch (even the finale was what, 70 minutes?)

Quick Rant about Reply 1988 - can we all get off the husband hunt??? The drama is about 1)family in all of its forms - friendships, romance, neighbors, etc. and 2)love in its various stages. Find it very disrespectful and completely dismissive of the rest of the story, which takes up 90% of each episode.

....but the drama itself is pushing the who's-the-husband mystery, just like 1997 and to a much greater extent 1994 did. Why are we blaming viewers when it's the writer and PD who actively encourage that speculation?
This iteration is more focused on family and could really have done without the husband hunt, but we have it anyway.

Yes it has all that PLUS the Husband hunt which as @Pogo Go Go said its the writer and PD who are encouraging speculation. Infact they are manipulating our feelings, first they make you think its sun woo, then love Junghwans adorable crush then just as it startsto go somewhere , they introduce the conflict Taek in the mix.Case and point, the photos they each took with deok sun, Husband Hunting.

I don't really mind the husband hunt this time since it's not too in your face like Reply 1994. I am also liking the balancing act of making sure everyone gets to tell their story. This installment probably has the most ensemble feel to it.

Hello, fellow Beanies:
Hoping all is well.
Six Flying Dragons: PERFECTION!!!!!!!
Sweet Savage Family: Hits the fun spot and the actor who plays embattled thug dad has just become a new fave of mine.
AWL: Loving Ji Hyun Woo even more than I ever did. He has such gravitas and intensity in everything he does, I do hope he's not a curmudgeon in real life.
Glamorous Temptation: At last....kinda.... Our heroine is still getting her strings pulled. Waiting for her to be entirely and truly her own person.
5-9: Liking this. Chill, Amane!
All about Mom: Ay me! Why did those two new girls have to pop into the story? Seems a bit like an unnecessary subplot.
Remember: Am liking this a lot. Gosh, that boy is pretty.
Imaginary Cat: That kitty has the best personality!
Have a great weekend, all.

Watched the short "9 Seconds Eternal Time", the ending was rather ambiguous, but I enjoyed watching Lee Joo Seung, who has become one of my favorite actors. Hope to see him become a lead in a drama some day soon.
Awl: I'm at ep 11, excellent acting, waiting for last episode.
Sweet Savage Family: Continues to be good, mixing comedy with drama.
The Merchant: Really picking up steam, impatient for next episodes subs!
Today, hopefully, I will be able to watch Snow Lotus. Love time travel sageuks, wish this could be a 16 ep instead of 2.

Finishing the village last weekend, and satisfied with the drama as a whole. Good production. Hope more drama with similar production quality next year.
Starting on Bubblegum.. without any expectation, and surprise myself that I loooooove it..! *dancing happily*. It's been quite sometimes since I like Lee Dong Wook's drama.
Falling behind in all other dramas, japanese, chinese, korean, everything. Hope I can catch up during holiday season.

sheesh, I forgot about Friday since I was filling a landscapes folklore questionnaire and looking at old travel photos and got so carried away.
anyway, I did my own ranking, so that you dont have to search, I will put up the whole thing, old part and new, for 2015 dramas.
My categories would be:
Dramas I finished and asked for seconds and thirds and licked my plate:
I Remember You -I could eat this every day
Angry Mom – there was a lot to chew on and I sometimes put the bitter parts aside, but savoured the sweet bites and just adored them from afar
Kill Me, Heal Me – was this dish made of one ingredient used in 7 different ways, or 7 different ingredients? Anyway, the rice was fully cooked.
Sassy Go Go – that portion was way too small.
Dramas that did give a sense of fulfillment, but weren´t really gourmet
Oh My Ghostess – licking your screen is not the same as being able to taste those kisses…DISHES, I mean dishes! jeez.
Heart to Heart – the dish was slightly burnt. Just slightly. But that never really bothered me.
Girl who sees smells – when your title reminds me of seashells and there are none in the dish.
She was pretty – why would you put THAT ingredient together with THIS one, if it compliments THAT one so much better?
Dramas I did finish when I re-heated the dish:
Night Scholar (seriously why did we need a long title? Learn from Gwi, short names, easy to remember). Sorry, Ninja Teacher, you were great, but the sauce was terrible.
Hyde, Jekyll, Me – fish, marshmallows, spam.
Falling for innocence – not falling for the finger bite trick again. I couldn´t taste anything
Mask – it is impossible to eat with one, but they kept switching the dishes as well.
The dish that is in the process of being made and I am snitching bites until the pot is empty before it is finished
Reply 1988 – why are the cooks so slow…*takes the peels out of garbage and eats them too* yum…
Dramas, that are like trendy superfoods: way overpriced, supposed to be heavenly but I just can´t get anything down:
Healer – reading the package is already confusing and then the contents feel a bit stale
Shine or go crazy – by the title I am afraid to even try this dish. would it make me glow in the dark or just think I am
Ho Gu´s love – a great name for a dish, but that´s as far as I go when they bring the plate
Dramas I have not found a way to eat:
Six Flying Dragons – so…how do you grasp them, exactly? I seem to have missed something…
Heard it through the grapewine – um… excuse me, I think I am in the wrong restaurant. *whispers to self: way out of your class, fox, this is not for you*
Dramas I ate too cold to enjoy
Awl – it is nice and a serious attempt at cooking, but it feels like the fire went out and it is slightly cold and raw…
Dramas I left on the plate and didnt feel sorry not paying the bill (certainly no tips!)
The Time I loved you – that dish had been on the plate wayyyy before it was brought to me
Blood – well,...

December 11, 2015 at 8:17 AM
Blood – well, um, blood.
Warm and cozy – hey, I didn´t ask for a tea pot on my head
The dramas that were not on the menu which I would have ordered had I known they were good:
Midnight diner . I was sleeping already!
Because it is the first time – I am in this restaurant
Last – well, looks like it
Dramas I would have cooked up
That one about the Vampire carpenter who makes coffins – hammering makes it tender
That one about supervillains having a complaint choir in an abandoned shack – order one, get two for free
That one about the narcissist king – but it is too good for you.
and for the general categories:
Best editing - I Remember You. There are so many examples, but just think of the flashback-hallucinations with Hyunin his room and the image of his father in a pool of blood....or the scene where Hyun is dropping the beads and Min walks through the station with a smirk in slo mo. A third of the magis was how the drama was literally put together plus the brilliantly creepy background music. If I made dramas, this effect is what makes it worth spening 200 hours behind the cutting board.
Best directing - I Remember You. Can´t deny it. you need to have a perfect grasp on the material to be able to follow it through like this. The show knew where it was going and there were no stumbles whatsoever.
Runner-up: Kill Me, Heal Me. I won´t say directOR - cause I realize they all had their say in how to make them scenes work. They all directed somewhat. But their cooperation was astounding, the wordless understanding and involvement, and to come up with so many impros and make them funny, and yet carry a message... that´s skill. I won´t argue there were better and worse things, but most of the yawny parts were the scripts´ fault, not the directing or actors.
Best title song - Auditory Hallucinations. I will even remember the title for a long time, and the tune itself is instantly recognizable. It is on par with the likes of MacGyver and X-Files for me. Not maybe a masterpiece in itself, but you will never mix it up with anything else and you will know it by heart in your sleep
Best Ensemble - well, I want to give this to I Remember you, but it was shaky. The brothers and the villains were all excellent, so was Team Leader, but... the rest? They were ok. Well, for best ensemble of villains, sure... But I am going to give this one to Angry Mom. They all clicked in their place and nobody lagged behind others. None.
Runner-up: Sassy Go-Go. Seriously, them young folks, but they all did such a good job, and the teachers were excellent and that creepy mother did her part like a legend of evil. Soo-Ah became a very fascinating character, even though her ending seemed rushed. Not sure for how long this drama will be remembered, but for the time being, the ensemble was true and honest.
Best Camera - Valid Love. Or maybe Set Design, whichever. Or both. I loved the way it was shot, and I loved the realistic feel of it...

Best Camera - Valid Love. Or maybe Set Design, whichever. Or both. I loved the way it was shot, and I loved the realistic feel of it all. Oftentimes korean drama settings feel too staged or plastic or too recognizable (same coffee shops, same office buildings), but this seemed like, I dunno, a british movie or something. Plus the tone or the athmosphere reminded me of SUFBB. There is just something.
Best (or rather the only) special effects - Girl Who Sees Smells. Those cutesy smells have to get an award from someone. They were seriously neat and did not look cheesy. Ok Night Scholar had effects too, but they were too overdramatic.
Best Shakespearean Monologues - Gwi from Night Scholar. His award is a skull to practice for Hamlet. Lee Soo Hyuk, to the stage go, you must!
Best Dialogues - I Remember You (See? It wins in every category, and that´s why it is the best drama). The thrialogue between the 2 psychoes and Hyun were so chilling and yet so...hot. and a lot of it... a lot worked best in three-way talks.
Best Supporting Character - as in, actually a SUPPORTING character, who gives support, is Mr Panty, Shin Hyuk aka Choi Siwon. And I mean, he is not just a goof, but he is there for everyone - for Hye Jin, for Ha Ri, for Seung Joon, for the Most team, everyone in She Was Pretty. yet he remains rather lonely himself... panty-stealing Prometheus.
Best Impro - Se Gi and Ri Jin, Kill Me, Heal Me, and not just once.
Best Bestie - I would love to say Ha Ri, but even though she came clear later, I can´t believe she could even stray so far to begin with. So this is her punishment. But I cannot find a single flaw in the Reply 1988 Moms. Their friendship is PERFECT. It is almost too perfect to believe.
The Best Fighter - Kang Ja, hands down. Not in the sense of using fists, but fighting spirit. Awesome woman. But Min and Hyun demonstrated some mad skill in epi 10 of IRY as well. I am just not sure how much was stunts
The Sleepiest, hungriest Panda - Moo-Gak aka Yoochun, you are a panda. Here, some bamboo. *snorr...*
I am thinking now what else to add.

@Redfox
I really enjoyed reading this, i kept smiling and nodding especially about Sassy Go Go, the portion was way too small although id pick it for best ensemble over Angry mum.
It still hurts how I REMEMBER YOU was underrated because i honestly felt it was perfect.
IHTTGRAPEVINE, hmm this show turned on me and left me so bitter and disgusted i didn't think it was even possible. I feel tricked, it was funny and exciting, something new then the last quarter, well just know like @Carole McDonnell i can't support candy Love or look up trees i can't climb as they say.Goddess of marriage made it clear but GRAPEVINE really sealed it for me.
On to my kind of people, definitely BEST bestie best families even goes to REPLY 1988, i don't remember a show that has made me cry this year like this show, super jealous of the friendship and family dynamics all except Bora lol,i don't need the beatings, shouting fear in my life?

I used to want to be a gangster's moll as a kid...to be the special one he chose etc, Then a few real-life stories knocked some sense into me.
In fact, recently when I was watching Six Flying Dragons and Boon Yi reminded our hero that she was not in his class and she could only be a concubine if anything I thought, "Dang right! Get this impossible love and all idealism out of your mind. This freedom fighter better fall in love with someone in her class. Why get into battles with noble malicious court ladies?" Romance only goes so far, but viciousness hurts like heck. Why endure all that for love?
CaroleMcDonnell
December 11, 2015 at 1:25 PM
Back in the day when I was young and liked excitement, I wanted to be a gangster's moll. But a few sane stories knocked that outta me.
In the same vein, I was thinking of Flying Dragons with Boon Yi and our hero prince's romance. She said she would only become a concubine. And I thought, "Damn straight! Let her fall out of love with princey. What does she have to look forward to intriguing rich noblewomen and jealous queen who will make her life and her family's life a living hell? Best to fall out of love with hero and live a simple obscure life without all that drama. Especially considering that chaebols and princes seem to have a lotta women in their lives when they get older. 8 wives, a zillion mistresses. High Society and other chaebol stories taught me that.

I wouldn't ordinarily contest Angry Mom for Best Ensemble, but I really wasn't into Baro as the bully school president at all, and didn't find his love line at all convincing. Not hat he was a bad actor, just that he really was forgettable as the younger male lead, especially in the wake of Hurricane Bokdongie (seriously, I forgot he was even in the drama until I was reminded recently).
So for me, Sassy Go Go would actually take Best Ensemble not because I think all the actors are great (N is adequate, decent even, but I can see why he took a demotion from second male lead to heroine's sidekick) but because I think they all just had better chemistry together. Like I said, N wasn't great but I could believe in Dong-jae's scenes with Soo-ah, in a way that I never could with Baro's scenes with Kim Yoo-jung. (that's largely also because most of his scenes were with either Jung Eunji or Chae Soo-bin, and they did most of the work there).

yeah, that's how I felt too - he wasn't bad and didn't bother me, just really....blah, considering how much screen time he had and how Bokdongie ultimately stole the show.
Sassy Go Go made the wise decision to sideline N and confine him to what he could do effectively really early in the show's run, so I don't get the blah off him as much - he's just a side character and it feels like he's meant to be that, instead of the younger-gen male lead Baro seemed to be promoted as pre-airing.

Six Flying Dragons -- You have to make it through the first 7 episodes or so and THEN you get hooked.
Grapevine -- I hear what you say about the wrong restaurant. But if you find yourself in the wrong restaurant with cuisine you don't really want... best to either leave the restaurant or valiantly accept the ambiance. Think, Steak tartare versus sirloin versus hamburger. I don't think I could get into raw meat but grapevine was raw and hard to swallow. But I liked it. I cannot wholeheartedly look at another chaebol and want him (or want the Candy to get him) ever again. The real world of princes is painful for Cinderellas.
Awl: Love the coldness. It feels like a j-drama in that way. There are several movies out like this: The Big Short and Spotlight. As cold as they come. Especially, I would assume, for folks outside the US. The passionate fire comes from lighting the hearts of the viewers, not from the actors themselves. It does seem to be missing something but not enough to affect the strength of the main dish. And for all we know, it is affecting South Korea in ways we don't know. That's what art is for, right? For it's own culture primarily. Should westerners judge an piece of art that doesn't connect to us as it does to Koreans?

Carole - I agree, Grapevine is most definitely NOT a feel-good watch, and was in such stark contrast to most kdramas that I imagine it was pretty uncomfortable.
But it was an object lesson in how there is no such thing as a happily ever after in that kind of world, and being absurd doesn't mean someone can't also be dangerous (oddly prescient, considering the recent sayings of a certain bewigged Trump)

Started watching Remember today and was totally reminded of how much and why I loved YSH so much, he really matured in the army and his acting really puts some older actors to shame! PMY doesn't seem to stand out so much so far but i'm only at the first ep so what can i say xD this is actually my first contribution here but it's all for the other drama that I'm watching atm, bubblegum. a lot of people hate it because of the angst and while i did get annoyed at ri hwan's break up in ep 10 (i know i'm far behind) the producing team and actors really brought it out in a way that I couldn't stay mad at all. the whole drama is amazingly produced and the flashback ep of ep 11 was so heartfelt and touching, making me care even more for the characters than I thought possible. yes it features one of the most illogical kdrama moms ever but i can't help but feel for her, her love story with HA's dad was so bittersweet and adorable ahhh my feels haha it's been a while since i watched a drama that made me cry every episode and i'm doing that now since ep 7 sigh

Happy friday beanies!
Am a bit late to the party today due to having the last shift at work. Had a job interview on monday, so now I'm just crossing my fingers and hoping I get lucky.
Kdrama toddler style: season 2?
- today we had a sad and cruel separation of two 1 year olds, when the girl was picked up by her mum. There were tears and back hugs.
-there was a love triangle. the so far second lead decided to take action, taking advantage of the seating arrangements at lunch. Sadly he was turned down.
-3 year olds played hospital. I think it could rival any drama in having bad doctors and internal political intrigues
Dramaland
- Actually caught up to Answer me 1988! OMG; how cute is Taek? such a puppy! I'm not picking a side though (still hurt from last season). However, I do like the toned down feel of the husband question. They have really toned it down a lot. I mean not every episode is focusing on clues and hints both in the past and present. It's much more focused on the neighborhood and the friend group.
- Bromance: started this, and enjoying it a lot. Also congrats to the female lead on actually doing a believable job!

awww, separated toddlers would put even the most heart-wrenching kdrama partings to shame!
And I agree on 1988. The husband question is still there and mildly aggravating, but I am really thankful that they haven't gone 1994 on it, AND that the parents' storylines and bonds are given as much emphasis as the kids! I also think a 1997-style more strongly OTP-centric story would not have worked, partially because Hyeri is charming but not quite capable of carrying the whole show unless the actor who gets the most screen time with her has insane chemistry with her (and I'm talking Seo In-gook/Jung Eun-ji kind of levels).
Taek has slain me too, but the character I'm most invested in is Sun-woo's mother, I hope her kids grow up to give her a lovely comfortable life free of the kind of pain and tension she's been put through. It kills me a little that she was under such a huge strain in ep 10 - under threat of losing her house, even - but kept her chin up and went bustling around helping Taek's dad no matter what.

I agree about Hyeri, she is doing good, but I don't think she could have handled the same type of story as in 1997. I do prefer a stronng friends story though. I have missed having a god friendship drama.

awww, poor babies! I can imagine a show like Return of Superman putting captions on this, lol.
I agree on Hyeri, she's doing well but definitely not to the same level as Ryu Joon-yeol, Park Bo-geum or even Ryu Hye-young. She's charming but there are certain scenes or parts where she plays a scene almost exactly like she did in her previous dramas (notably the packing-for-China scene, which reminds me of her in Hyde Jekyll), and she's also prone to occasional over-exaggeration in the quest to be comic relief (forgivable, considering this is a comedy). I appreciate that she's not precious about her image, but she still has a way to go.

Yep, Hyeri is doing a great job, much better than anything I was able to imagine, but she's still Hyeri. (Luckily, she keeps comic overacting somewhat sane.)
The disadvantage of her being cast: Her character is almost exclusively comic relief and a romantic MacGuffin, but very little actual "character". Which is weird when you constrast it to all the other very deeply designed non-main-characters on that show. That is necessary as the producers didn't trust her to carry the show, and it helps to generate some "Stephenie Meyer"-level of relatability with her (which, in turn, is necessary to fuel the "husband hunt"), but it definitely doesn't help the overall plot and character relation issues.
pogo
December 11, 2015 at 7:58 PM
I will say this much for Hyeri - a bad actor who overacts (Hyeri in previous performances) can be toned down and learn to rein it in a little, which is a much better alternative to her being a wooden, 'underacting' type'.
I also agree that her character is something of a romantic MacGuffin, as you put it ;) . Like there's really not much depth to her despite the drama trying to establish it twice now - everything is on the surface so far. I get that she's an Everygirl who's nice to people, a protective older sister and middle sibling who gives way to her siblings on a lot, but that's been quite a bit of 'tell, not show' from this drama. Comparatively, her sister is far more strongly drawn and seems to have more going on inside despite having far less screen time.
And that's a good point about relatability - Shi-won of 1997 may have been far less 'relatable' and I personally don't get her kind of kpop fangirling at all. But as a viewer, I can recognise that her fangirl side gave her one important thing that the succeeding Answer Me heroines lacked - an interest that was all her own and had nothing to do with either of her love interests. It actually added dimension to her character, especially since 1997 made it a point to keep the fangirl going strong through almost the entire drama. 1994's Na-jung also had the basketball fangirling at first but that got played down a lot as we went down the love triangle merry-go-round.

December 12, 2015 at 2:15 AM
Well, okay, that's the other extreme: Sung Bo-ra. I fell in love with that character by the second episode, to be honest. Of course, she's impossible to implement as a lead character in a K-drama, because she is way too profiled and has too much character for that (and I'm pretty sure there are a lot of viewers who hate her).
pogo
December 12, 2015 at 2:50 AM
yeah, Bora actually has a personality and character trajectory that's almost textbook kdrama male lead - only she's female. That does not win her a lot of fans, especially among people who dismiss her for not being 'nice'.
The thing with Deok-sun is that she's endearing but not very interesting, while Bora is the reverse.
Jon G.
December 12, 2015 at 3:23 AM
Then again, Deok-sun is not there to be interesting, she's there to have interesting suitors.
Even on the male side, I don't remember too many characters like her in K-drama. She's not the way she is because she has some stock dark-and-troubled past, or because she's a pampered chaebol. She makes perfect sense in the way she is, considering her parents and her position within the family.
pogo
December 12, 2015 at 7:48 AM
That's true, but I wasn't speaking of Bora in terms of having similar circumstances (dark and secrety painful chaebol past) to most kdrama leads, more like her particular brand of pride and prickly-but-reluctantly-nice is a lot like theirs. Right down to her reluctantly opening up to Sun-woo despite herself.
And yeah, she makes perfect sense given her status as the eldest and the family's circumstances.
I agree that Deok-sun's suitors are the most interesting thing about her, but the rub is that Answer Me heroines don't have to be that way, they can be insanely engaging in their own right even without a boy involved (1997 was the best example - Shi-won on her own was a one-man fangirl army with a hilariously squabbly relationship with her dad). I don't have to personally relate to the object of Shi-won's obsession to enjoy the way it gets used as a device to illustrate character. Deok-sun's charming, but without a thing she's into, she's just a cipher for people to project on by being 'relatable'.
Jon G.
December 12, 2015 at 9:26 AM
I guessed that, but I still wanted to take the opportunity to express my admiration for Bo-ra's consistent and consequential character design.
The Sun-woo pairing, true, has something of a classic (gender-switched) K-drama couple. But even Sun-woo, who is ridiculously perfect, is still a nicely profiled character (for example, the way his teenage insecurity is interwoven with his circumstantial maturity).
I started to "ship" those two around the 3rd episode, simply because I liked the joke: "too good to be true" and "too true to be good".
On the bright side, because Deok-sun is not the heavy centre of the show, we get all these fantastic supporting characters, stories and themes. To me, I'm fine with that "compromise".
pogo
December 12, 2015 at 9:51 PM
@Jon - I agree, Hyeri/Deok-sun not being capable of carrying the show/not having to carry it has given us quite a good payoff in the form of the supporting characters and their screen time, particularly the parents.
But I can easily see Deok-sun's role being filled by another actress with a half-decent comic bent who isn't afraid of looking silly or going over-the-top - like Han Groo or Lee Yubi. While I absolutely cannot picture anyone but Ryu Hye-young as Bora.
pogo
December 12, 2015 at 9:54 PM
And I am fine with the compromise too, in terms of the show itself - it's just that in terms of getting their due afterwards, it'll be Hyeri who benefits the most while having her contribution vastly overrated, and the others get sidelined into a few more years of supporting roles (except for Ryu Joon-yeol and hopefully Park Bo-geum).

Now, I get why it deserves the votes and praised. I am completely hooked!
It felt so different and their relationship felt so real! JCW did an absolutely great job. I didnt know him before, but now a fan! He is a great actor.

Hi beanies - I want to do the bean count post next!
It was a Yoo Seung Ho week. Keep 'em coming! Remember - War of the Son has captured my heart. If only Bok Gil could have been waiting for Jin Woo at home (sigh). It would be a perfect blend of Imaginary Cat and Remember. As much as I Miss You fell off the tracks, I loved Seung Ho as Harry.
Ho Hum Venus - now it's going into phantom knee and phantom phat territory. Still, Shin Min Ah and So Ji Sub on screen together is a pretty thing to behold.
Bubblegum - I dunno, it's a whiplash from ep 13 melo-est of melos to 14 happiest of happys. I think they threw in a scene of therapy just for effect.
Is Seung Ho episode next up yet??

Loving Remember as well, but wow, those two first episodes are hard to get through. I' forgotten how much I hated injustice in the legal system. Injustice towards workers in AWL was stressing enough but wow, when the bad guys are the prosecutors...it's a hard watch. Am wondering if I'll have to deal with this stress all 24 episodes. Will the Dad case last the entire length of the drama, do you think? Probably..right.

witches-brew receipt (aka. my old teacher's anti cold remedy!)
1 liter water
1 root of fresh ginger cut into slices
10 cloves (of the type that looks kinda like nails...)
10 star anise
4 cinnamon sticks
4 slices of orange
2 slices of lemon
put it all into the pan and leave to simmer for about 30 min. If you wish honey can be added to the cup before drinking.
I know it works for when a cold is starting, so hope it will help now as well.
can be reheated so no need to drink it all at once ;)

I'm watching 'The Greatest Love' and it's fantastic so far. Other dramas I've loved:
My Love from the Stars (first one, :) )
Falling for Innocence
Master’s Sun
Healer
Dramas I haven’t loved:

if you liked Healer, try Two Weeks - it's also an action drama, but more about a father and daughter than a love line.
If you liked Master's Sun, you can try some other dramas by the same writers - You're Beautiful, My Girlfriend Is A Gumiho and Best Love are three fairly well-liked ones. Gong Hyo-jin's other dramas are also pretty solid.
Also try the following
- Oh My Ghostess (romcom)
- Punch (action/thriller/melodrama)
- Three Musketeers (Korean history version of the Three Musketeers)

Aahhh, you bring up a point that I was also wondering abt. Is subtitles better than dubbing?
I am watching Forevermore with dubbing. I mostly watch Asian dramas with subtitles as the dubbing completely pulls me out of the drama sometime, when the voices does not seems to at all fit the characters. I have watched Chinese and Hindi dramas with very British accented dubbing. Completely threw me.
But having said that I don't find the dubbing in Forevermore distracting and I can just concentrate on the pretty pictures. :-)

I personally like subbing better, because I get to watch it how the actors and director intended for it to be watched. That said, there are some shows (Ghibli's Howl's Moving Castle) that have fairly good dubbed versions as well.

dubbing vr subbing is always a good question. I feel that a lot of shows are better to watch with subs. but there are times were dubbing is needed, for instance in children's movies (Ice age, for instance, is a lot funnier in Norwegian than it is in english to me).
It's also how well the dubbing is done. Some times it's distracting, especially if the speach and lip movements doesn't add up. And as you say, you sometimes get voices that kind off seems wrong.

While everyone has his/her own preference, I like subtitles.
I love hearing the language the actors are speaking. I think that through hearing the language and how the actor is speaking it (tone, pitch, pauses, inflection, etc), one can more readily pick up nuances of the character he/she is portraying, such as intentions or feelings. Also, in languages where social hierarchy is woven into it, it's often difficult to pick up or get a sense of it from dubbing.

And the weather forecast is...
Still watching Imaginary Cat, and loving every purr and stroke. I dunno, - that grumpy orange fuzzy face just takes me to a happy place...
Which is why, the first two episodes of Remember has been a shock to the system. It's the same dude, but entirely different set up. I'm not sure if I can cope with the tone of the drama - everything's so exaggerated, the behaviour of the characters are so extremely bad or good, even the neighbours. It feels too frustrating and also too unbelievable, but I guess that's what they call melodrama. Maybe I should make myself watch Remember first, and then soothe myself with Imaginary Cat afterwards for a bit of therapy.
I'm still following Reply 1988 eagerly (to the level of watching without subs). Funny how consistent watching of the shows has trained my ear and I actually get the gist of what the characters are saying. Everything about this show is so great - the relationships, the humour, and of course, Park Bo Gum. I could just freeze frame on his smile, and all's the world a better place.
Still watching Bubblegum, and now that the unnecessary angst is over happy to pay proper attention to it again.
Caught up with the Flying Dragons - really awesome! I think I might just try watching Tree with Deep Roots again. I gave up the first time, partly due to being busy and it being a bit convoluted. But the connections are interesting so will give it another go.
Yes, still with Love Me If You Dare. It's gotten a bit more scary, but Bo Jin Yan's shirt is as white and crisp as ever.
Also watching Marry Me, or Not. It's kind of funny but really over the top. I watch it primarily cos Koala tends to praise it to the heavens, and each week, I watch it to see if I will feel the same way.
I'm intrigued to watch Moorim School but can't find a subbed version yet.

Since I am on break I've been watching dramas like crazy.
I finally finished Empress Ki. What a beautiful drama but omg did a lot of crazy stuff happen in that one. Every time I thought the worst had past, some other evil power hungry devil spawn would pop up and stir things up again. But it was more enjoyable than frustrating, a true testament to the good writing. The acting was also superb all around. I am glad that it was my first 50+eps sageuk.
I am half way through Padam Padam. I started it because of all the wonderful recommendations on dramabeans but this show is seriously giving me high blood pressure. I like the concept of the story but the characters (most of them) I find unlikable. Especially one in particular that ruins my enjoyment every time he shows up on my screen. I hope I'll make it through to the end.
I started watching Heard it Through the Grapevine and I love it so far! It's such an original show. The writing, the acting and the cinematography is beyond amazing so far. I am really enjoying the odd comedy. I am also really impressed with Lee Joon's portrayal of Insang and although I can't stand the parents manipulativeness, I am loving their crazy antics.
Imaginary Cat is still as cute as ever even though I am not a fan of the actress' portrayal of Bokgil's voice.
Remember had a promising start but I am still not sure how they will manage to carry that story through 24 episodes. I guess I'll just wait and see.
Reply 1988 is still my favourite so far. I am completely obsess with the show and love every second of it. Honestly the 3 hours I spend watching the drama each Monday just seem to fly by. However, I am getting nervous about what is going to happen next. I don't think I'll be able to survive Junghwan's imminent heartbreak. I'm also nervous about how the relationship between Deoksun and Taek will be handled. I wish we knew who the husband is already so I could sleep easy. (Although I am still convinced it is Junghwan because of the uncanny resemblance)
Finally, I am also watching the Japanese drama Okitegami Kyoko no Biboroku and I absolutely love it! I can't wait to see the final 2 episodes. The show is just my kind of quirky. And to think I only started to watch it because of the lead girl's hair :P

Busy week, as we have a new puppy at home :)
The highlights of my week, drama-wise, are one each from Korea, Taiwan, and China - Oh My Venus, Marry Me or Not and Love Me if You Dare.
Otherwise, I will put Glamorous Temptation on hold for a while. The possibility of the heroine becoming romantically involved with or marrying the older guy kind of creeps me out. Especially because she's so similar to his first love that I think that there was either a baby switch in the past or secret fraternal twins.
Bubblegum is a show I may watch after the fact; I dropped it when it was clear that the angst was going to dominate the run of the show.

I am up to Eps 2 of ' From Five to Nine'( J drama) and I am not sure if I should continue watching it. Yamapi, one of the most handsome young actors in Japan, I think, is a monk in this drama. It's funny that I never ever encountered such a good looking monk in my life and I live in Kyoto, the capital of temples!! He hardly speaks and when he speaks he talks with almost impossibly boring formal manner ( along with his perfect writing). He seems quite obsessed with the girl.... I am not sure about this one,,, I guess my reluctance against this drama is part due to my dislike of Ishihara Satomi.
Reply 1988;;;; my daughter asked me if all of us( I and my husband) used to have such bad haircut in 80's like the character in the drama . While she was watching Taek, she said,' I wish I could be pretty like this boy.'

Answer Me 1998- I'm still watching and enjoying it, I'm just not sure why it's just as if not more popular than the first two series. I'm still not sure what my issue with it is at first I thought it was Hyeri but I'm not sure. Maybe I'm growing bored of the series, maybe it's my shallowness showing through in that I don't find Hyeri even half as attractive as Jung Eun-ji or Go Ara, maybe it's that I don't find this set of characters particularly compelling. I do like it just not as much as Answer Me 1994 or especially 97.
The only other drama I'm watching at the moment is...
Remember- I liked the first episode, I'll probably watch the second tonight or tomorrow. I don't know why but I didn't expect them to start trying to make me cry in the first episode. Makes me worry about down the line when Yoo Seung-ho and Park Min-young start to develop feelings and his Alzheimer's leads to his inevitable Korean drama male lead noble idiot moment.
I'm thinking about starting Imaginary Cat because I love cats and I need something light.
I'm worried my mom's present isn't going to get here in time for Christmas. Of all the awesome Korean music I've shown my mom CN Blue is the only one she's really liked as such I ordered her First Step it hasn't shipped yet. Hopefully by Monday.

Hoping the present comes quickly. I'm kinda hoping I'll get a kitty for Christmas.
Am liking Remember. I like the heart of it, although it IS definitely stressful. But it's fun seeing how they show memory as both a blessing and a curse, a gift and a detriment. Will be loving how they play with that.

Makes me worry about down the line when Yoo Seung-ho and Park Min-young start to develop feelings and his Alzheimer’s leads to his inevitable Korean drama male lead noble idiot moment.
Don't worry; there's not much of that (though there are a couple of episodes that are just one long awkward silence). It's SOOOOOOO good. I loved it. I wish I could watch it again for the first time.

re: Answer Me 1988, I'm really enjoying it so far but thinking about it, that seems to be because I love the parent-generation characters way more than the kids, and am grateful the drama spends time with them.
I think part of the issue might be how the kids' characters can occasionally feel derivative of 1997/94, with the most obvious example being Jung-hwan as the 1988 iteration of Yoon-jae (similarly grumpy and attracted to his female bff - though Jung-hwan isn't as close to Deok-sun as Yoon-jae was to Shi-won).
And it's ironic you mention the female leads' attractiveness, because Jung Eun-ji is actually considered the least conventionally attractive of the three Answer Me heroines so far, but made a far more compelling heroine (so it really can't be the attractiveness). Hyeri is certainly "prettier" but she's also the weakest of the female leads, acting-wise - I can see bits of her previous performances occasionally lifted wholesale into Deok-sun here. And I think that's reflected in the fact that this version of Answer Me has spread out its story so it isn't centred on her or on the love triangle.

So...I've been away for a while, because work has been stressful like crazy. The good news is that I was promoted at work, which will mean moving to full time from part time, and a raise! :tosses confetti:
I haven't been watching too many dramas (because of time issues), but I did just finish
The Village: Whoa. Everybody in that village was shady as hell, except for that cutie-patootie cop. I loved that he kept trying to come on to the teacher, and she kept blatantly ignoring his overtures as though he hadn't said anything. Bless his heart.
I kind of stopped watching Cheo Yong, because it's too aggravating without subs. :/
American TV-wise, I'm waiting impatiently on next month's season 2 of Agent Carter, and just finished the brilliant and terrifying Jessica Jones. (Also: STAR WARS OPENS NEXT WEEKEND OMG.)
K-drama moments? Hmm.
The hubby and I ate at a fusion place where they served bulgogi in steamed buns w/kimchi on top. YUM. (Alas, the same place served supposedly Korean shrimp pancakes which were gross - jun should not be gritty. :P
Also, I helped a lovely Chinese lady figure out who to use the language software at our library. She spoke little English, but I got to use the two words of Chinese I learned from watching Misaeng.
Also, one of my favorite patrons came in and said "Where's Harmony? I need more cute Korean boys!" :snort: She left with The Con Artists. I expect to hear all about her new crush on Kim Woo Bin when she brings it back.

I've been hearing a lot of positive things about Jessica Jones - I loved Krysten Ritter from Don't Trust the Bitch in Apartment 23, and have been looking forward to getting a full day to marathon this. Even if it does sound terrifying, given what the villain does.

I loved Krysten Ritter
She was great in Jessica Jones - and her reactions made Kilgrave ten times scarier. :shudder: I was going to binge it, but it was so unnerving that I had to watch it in pieces.

I'll consider that a heads-up then, I think maybe this is best watched not all at once considering the subject matter.

Happy Friday, beanies! (Or Saturday, haha)
This week, my current dramas:
Sungkyunkwan Scandal: Episode 13, and I'm feeling so much love for this episode because the relationships are finally kick-starting, and OHMYGOD who knew Yoochun is THAT hot? I've never really liked him in Girl Who Sees Smells, but here he's got that prideful-rebellious-jealous-scholarly role down & I love him. Eek.
Imaginary Cat: Episode 3, and I'm ashamed to say how much I cried all because of a grumpy cute orange feline. Also, how did I never see Yoo Seung-Ho before!? (Well, I only joined the Kdramaland in 2015...but he's so freaking cute can I have my own boy AND cat too?)
Oh My Venus: Episode 5, and I already want a) So Ji-Sub as a personal trainer, b) a sassy attitude like that of Joo Eun's and c) A DIET. PLEASE. I felt so exposed watching the training parts of this show, I can almost hear my abandoned treadmill screaming "RUN ON ME! RUN!"
You're Beautiful: Episode 9, and to be honest here (just my opinion, btw), I may have to drop this. It feels a bit too much for me, and the humor/characters/plot isn't my type; I enjoy something more of a SKKS than YB, if not just because Go Mi-Nam can irritate me sometimes (I'm sorry, guys! But Jeremy is my bae, forever & always, except for his awful hairstyles).
Wanna Watch:
Reply 1988: What is it!? What is it about Taek, you guys??? You made me want to watch this & honestly, Park Bo-Gum is NOT good for my health. I think I can feel future heart attacks when I watch Reply 1988 in the future later on. I haven't even watched it yet, but oh, what the hell, I'm Taekked #TeamTaek!
Because It's The First Time: Because It's The First Time I've seen a drama that starts light and stays light. I love the first 5 minutes already, and I hope this show & the cute leads aka Minho can cure me of my Seo In Guk withdrawal (I Remember You ended months ago, you said. I DON'T CARE I STILL MISS SEO IN GUK BEING SMART AND BADASS, I said).
Village: Secret of Achiara: YES. I want a creepy one. No, I NEED a creepy one. Especially if bae (read: Sung-jae) is in it.
Splish Splash Love: Splish Splash Heart, more like, cause I'm pretty sure I'll Splish Splash the eff away to OTP-land when I watch this. It's so quirky & the teasers got me so pumped. Waiting, waiting...
That's my drama list for now! What about you guys? Or, like, do you have any recommendations for what I should watch?
(goodluck to anyone taking/has finished Finals and is nervously waiting for their scores by the way! I'm hard at studying right now, my exams are at January)

It's not creepy like I Remember You or Ten, but it was certainly full of shady characters and the writers played with audience assumptions nicely.

Because korean dramas have been quite disappointing really.. I started watching Zenkai Girl and I like it! Not so great ending and the romance is ok but fun nonetheless! Marathoned it. Tq to the beanies who recommended it. I am in the mood for funny smart romances and I cant seem to choose what to watch.

So since this is last Friday's Open Thread, I feel safe in posting this, because no one's gonna see it (hopefully).
Nothing drama related, I just really needed to get stuff off my chest, and since I don't own a journal I thought why the heck not post on a site that I follow. Whelp, here goes nothing.
I've been feeling extremely unmotivated lately. I keep sleeping past my alarm, missing classes (on Tuesday I didn't go to any of my classes), missing labs, not finishing homework on time, just generally feeling down in the dumps. Although I've slept past my alarm before (although to be honest, who hasn't?) but I've always tried to finish my homework on time, but this week I'm just not up to it. *sigh* I don't even know why I'm in school, but I can't tell that to my parents, because they'll probably disown me (Asian parents for the win. Wee.)
I just want someone to hold me. I feel ugly, fat, unloved, alone, and just want to stay holed up in my room and never see the light of day again. I don't even have that many friends, although I'm in college, where supposedly I'm supposed to be having the time of my life. And yeah. Thank God it's break starting Saturday.
Sorry for the rant and for wasting your time if you were reading this.

hang in there, sei ryoku!
college is hard! are you living away from your parents? try to talk to them... hopefully you're going home during break.
sending you a holiday break HUG from one of those "asian parents" who actually grew up under the pressures of "asian parents" and who is probably guilty of being perceived as being that toward my daughter when she was in college (though she was a commuter)...
you'll get through it, most of us did... i didn't "have the time of my life" in college either. i just worked through it. your life will begin after college! hang tough...
