all the sites have become so slow to sub that I haven´t watched anything the past week. nothing is subbed yet.
instead I was re-reading the comments on Kill Me, Heal Me recaps and reminisced about those crazy times we were sitting on hot coals waiting for the episodes.
and also I am so absorbed into research I hardly have time to pee. when I do something, I am thorough to the extremes. and right now working here at Fat Margaret Tower which is quiet and rather inspiring, I came upon a "flow" and wrote a gridline (and bits and pieces of dialogue) for a new story about a ninja girl and a swindler who take over a kingdom. It sounds cheesy, but I am trying to make it very close to life and realistic, yet adventurous. I am having a lot of fun, even though no one might ever see the story. I like how the heroine is turning out, she is an extremely tough cookie full of the unexpected.

not asking a question today. YOU ask questions now from me.

Hi redfox!

How are you? I think the story sounds interesting. If you get anything written, I could always "test" parts of the story on the children I work with, should you want it ;)

Todays question: If you had to make a drama, what type would it be (romance, friendship, horror, comedy etc...) and who would you like to cast?

Required fields are marked *

hey thanks for the offer to test it, but do your children speak estonian? I guess not...

the answer to your question. Well, my drama would most definately be an adventure comedy (I love road trips), maybe with a little bit of fantasy element, or an action thriller with a hint of romantic elements. I love action and adventure - and humor. I would cast Ji Sung, cause I can´t afford to pay more than one actor, but we already know he can play seven roles. I know how to handle the camera a little, but I need a quick and creative editor...

Haha yes, language might be a bit of a challenge. Didn't think about that ;)

Haha good call! I could see Ji Sung going on a trip. If he is bringing the multiple personalities though, does it make it a true soul searching trip? "who is the real me?"- style?

it would be very gonzo, something like Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, but without any drugs. like Hunter said himself, you can sometimes get a lot higher on life itself than on drugs... Maybe he is searching for some shaman or a mythical sage who can answer the questions he has... on identity crisis and his place in this world. or maybe all personas are searching for some thing different from a different location and thus drag his poor self to the weirdest of all places. and he picks up companions on the way he doesnt know

0

like, one persona is looking for aztec gold, one is looking for ... a lost shoe.

0

Haha okay that would be awesome!!

Now I want this drama to happen. Please drama gods?

I could try and write something in english, but thing is, the research on boat refugees is so vast, I have 89 pages of messy notes to organize and turn into thematic tours for 3 different age groups plus one school program. dont know if I´ll have time so dont promise them anything, yet.

I think they would like the ninja girl though, she takes her "job" so matter-of-factly and doesnt even try to look cool, she is an easy rider like that, but she also has a big heart and does more than her job requires. the swindler is kind of an annoying and infuriating person, but the ninja sees through him that underneath it is a protest or a countermeasure at the helplessness he feels. as in: "The world is unfair, so I don´t care who I hurt." while she is "the world is unfair, so I protect everyone!" they are sort of opposites: she is very capable and strong, but doesnt abuse that, he is weak and doubting but still trying to scam the weaker side (like some school bully). and then they accidentally happen to become joint rulers of the kingdom because the king has hemorroids and cant do his duty.

0

That sounds awesome, and think kids will love it.mespecislly having a strong female lead. Completely understand not hsving the time though! But if you do write some of it in english and want to test it out let me know and i will be happy tondo so :)

(Who knows what it would make the kdrama toddlers do ;) )

On last week's OT, I read the positive reviews on 'Nirvana In Fire', the Chinese historical drama. I've been watching too many K-drama nowadays that I felt a bit tired of them, with the story being so similar to one another and thus the lack of excitement.

So I decided to give this NIF a try, and omg I think it might be the best decision I've made this year. NIF has a brilliant plot, smart conversations, amazing directing, wonderful OST and great performances from the casts all around (and also best bromance ever!).

I finished all 54 episodes within a week cos it's just so addictive. By the time I ended it, I found myself unable to move on with any other drama cos they all seem pale in comparison :(

Honestly, the standard is so high I think I have to start keeping a look out for the rest of C-drama out there. Thanks to fellow beanies for the great recommendation!
Any other show out there that I shouldn't miss?

BATTLE OF CHANGSHA (2014).

It's directed by the same director as Nirvana in Fire, and also features gorgeous cinematography, nothing-wasted dialogue, intelligent plot, poignant music, and wonderful direction/acting.

Whereas Nirvana in Fire is more along the lines of "epic power-struggle", Battle of Changsha is more like the Answer Me series in that it focuses on one family in one moment of history, as they struggle to survive the Sino-Japanese war in the late 1930s.

You'll gush at the humor, heart, and romance. The male lead Wallace Huo (usually seen in terrible C-dramas, but acts so well here) is terribly gorgeous as a young KMD officer. But warning though: you will cry until your eyes bleed. War is catastrophically sad business.

No matter what you do,do NOT watch Cruel Romance! It'll scar you for life and you'll never dare try another C-drama! LOL!

I almost gave up C-dramas after trying some bad ones. Thanks to Nirvana,my view on C-dramas have changed drastically.Still the typical C-dramas have lower qualities than K-dramas I'd say.But there are always some gems you can find.I've heard a lot of good things about Disguiser and Love Me If You Dare and also Battle of Changsha so thinking of trying them next :)

I got the same tired feeling as you and I'm also watching a lot of the on air dramas like Achiara so I needed something else. Love Me If You Dare presents different murder cases in the present day while also developing and overarching mystery. Please check it out if you haven't already.

Me too!

I marathoned NIF within a week.. Literally did nothing than watching it. Just finished it three days ago and I'm still going through the withdrawal period. Have been putting the gorgeous OST on repeat these days.

Seriously, how can one drama have so many awesome characters? Lin Shu/Mei Chang Su/Su Zhe, Jing Wang, our brave and courageous Nihuang, Consort Jing, General Meng, Jingrui and Yujin, Marquis Yan, Fei Liu, Princess Liyang towards the ending etc. etc. Heck, even the baddies such as Marquis Xie, Yu Wang and the Emperor were brilliant in their own way (the acting is so spot-on). I love how the acting felt nuanced and calm compared to the usual dramatic Sageuk acting.

And the cinematography. Just breathtaking.

Our taekie has grown up. Finally he fall for a girl and even brave enough to ask her for a date (well, kind of). *so proud of him*
Okay show, it's not that I have anything against Doksun because she is cheerful, pretty, caring, and always there for him. But seriously, I don't want you to drag our adorable and awkward Taekie into that triangle of doom. He has enough problem as it is. I know it's part of him growing up and all that, but is it too much to wish him a sweet, lovely, and 'boring' love life?

0

reply

Required fields are marked *

Nope, I don´t even need a romance for Taekie, I just think he is the most fascinating character of the bunch and I want him to generally do well, and be well. But he does need to open up more to people, if he can, and maybe a puppy love will help.
as to his taking pills, I more and more have a feeling it has something to do with a mental condition rather than an illness, something he tries to repress which might have a connection to his mom. deja vu moment though

ah I am so like, I still cannot release the image of Min and when Taek won the baduk tournament, I involuntarily thought: "Hyun would be so proud of how successful Min is in his new past life!" I feel crazy...

0

reply

Required fields are marked *

Haha.. Well, as far as second chance go, living as a successful baduk player is not so bad after all.
Since we still barely knew anything about Taek's past, I think there is something more to him suddenly moving to Doksun's neighborhood. Maybe his mother's death is a traumatic one and that's also what makes him and his father barely talking to each other.

TAEK-AHHH.

Anyone else impressed by Park Bo Gum's acting?!

I didn't really watch Naeil's Cantabile... but I remember he was so tall and assured as the smarmy/glib/silver-tongued cellist.

But in AM 1988, he somehow seems so small and guileless It's like he got shorter and younger with acting alone. Plus his baduk genius is really convincing!! In undergrad, my dorm had several students who had stratospherically high IQs; one scored a gold medal finish at the international math olympiad, another won the national spelling bee at like age 12 or something, and a few others were known for developing proofs to esoteric mathematical ...stuff.

Park Bo Gum is not far from the mark when he sits with that rather awkward slouch, and speaks with such gentle simplicity. He also does interesting things with his eyes. There's nothing flashy about genius, but when you interact with these gifted people you get the sense that their eyes are like the surface of water-- underneath, there's a whole world of massive things people on the other side can't even begin to grasp.

---

On another note, I was so excited about Taek's fictional victory that I dug out the daduk/go board and asked my dad for a match. Thinking I could channel Taek's genius, I prepared myself for victory.

My dad beat me. Badly. It felt like I got punched in the brain.

Okay, I'm not ready to see anyone breaks Taek's heart. He's just so fragile I'm afraid he will break, like literally, when Deoksun chooses the other guy although I'm team Junghwan. Nooooo the writer better find him a good girl.
I don't think Bora will accept Sunwoo immediately. I'm curious about the young boy in ep 5, the student who walked along Sung Dongil to get away from the police in the protests. He's too random to be thrown in, and too good-looking. As cryptic as a Reply series can be, I think he has something to do with Bora. Maybe her crush, or even her boyfriend.
Speaking of Reply 1988, I can't believe it will be the only way I can see Kim Joo Hyuk in a weekly (or two) basis after he left 1N2D. He's such a great big brother apart from a great actor, I hope nothing but the best for him.

Anyone watching Because It's the First Time? I just finished it and I would like to recommend it to anyone in need of something short and sweet! It was adorable and quite a fun to watch :)
Running Man seems to have gotten back to its glory days after a few dismal episodes in between. The recent episodes have been full on laugh riots, plus the scale has become so grand!

Not watching anything else. I tried watching Love Me If You Dare, Heard it Through the Grapevine and What's Up (No, not at the same time), but they did not hold me somehow and I dropped each of them pretty soon, like after 2-3 episodes each. Maybe I am just going through a drama saturation cuz I have heard amazing reviews about them. Any thoughts on this?

Hi Everyone! ...... I hope you are all doing well today. To all of the Beanies who celebrate Thanksgiving, I hope you enjoyed a wonderful holiday.

If any of you are going to brave the crowds for Black Friday today, I wish you the best of luck in your shopping adventure!

Watched this week:

Six Flying Dragons - I watched episode 8 this week. ..... I have to say, what a joy it is to watch this drama and everyone in it. Episode 8 was particularly exceptional.

Village: Secret of Achiara - Still watching a couple of minutes here, a couple of minutes there. ...... All I know is, everyone's a tiny bit weird. Then again, everyone has all these secrets, so I get it.

She Was Pretty - A little more than half-way through this one and still enjoying it. Choi Siwon, I swear, he really makes me laugh out loud.

That's about it for now. ........ Everyone take care and have a great Friday!

Hi Korfan,

I've only watched Yoona's Street and Heard it Through the Grapevine for longies, and I really looked forward to those two each week knowing they would continue past the usual 16-20 kdrama eps. I don't know if I have the same anticipaiton for 6FD - probably mostly because it's historical and those seem to do me in before they're over. I am enjoying it so far, though!

Hoping my fellow Americans had a good Thanksgiving.

Dramas:

Achiara: I was surprised at how sad I was at Ga-young's death. Mom was just so heartbreaking at the hospital. Is there no statute of limitation for rape in Korea? I've really liked the relationship between pharmacist and art teacher. Was surprised it wasn't aunt/son kinda thing, but a real love story. Stupidity of heroine was a bit much at times.

Awl: Waiting for subs.

Flying Dragon: Am totally loving the actress who plays Boon-yi. I've always liked her but now, wow! Great role, great acting. Previews imply Gil Tae Mi and Hong In Bang are on the run or might be killed. So hoping that won't happen. A) because I love GTM so much and B) we need our villains, don't we? With 30+ episodes to go.

Glamorous Temptation: Ah, seriously, Eun Soo!??? Seriously Assemblyman? Why does he trust everything his daughter says? Loving flaky poet-daughter and psycho Rubik Master hubby.

Savage Family: Looooooooove the actress who plays the harried mom/thug wife. Got to know her first in the drama specials and marriage dramas on kbs. It's a silly, fun, show and am liking the complications.

All about my mom: Another case where I wanted to slap a silly heroine upside the head. I hate anyone winning over me and if just for that, I'd go head-to-head with that evil MIL-not-wannabe. Jin Ae should know better than to play into that woman's hand.

I saw End of Animal, a Korean apocalyptic movie from 2011 and was really touched spiritually by it. It's probably not to everyone's taste but wow, it definitely affected my Christmas season for good.

That's about it, I think.

Have a great weekend, all.

Regarding Six Flying Dragons, by the sound of the preview you've mentioned, it sounds like Hong In-bang did go over to the dark side. Then again, one wrong move back then and you could be a target. ....... I'm only up to episode 8 so I'm nowhere near where you're at. The thing is, up to what I've seen so far, I've been wondering if Hong In-bang is in fact now a baddie with his own agenda or if he's in fact putting into motion a plan designed by Jung Do-jeon. I've been curious because in episode 2 (I think it was ep 2), Jung Do-jeon told Hong In-bang, "If anything happens to me, continue with the plan."

Gil Tae-mi. He's one interesting character, right? ...... Then again, who isn't here!

One thing I do know and it's that this is one good drama.

I believe there was a reason why he has a twin in the drama. Park Hyeok-Gwon can still be in the show no matter what happen to Tae Mi.

I laughed at his comment to Moo-hyul for dressing up like the viper. "Is it a trend?" I know the eyeshadow is a big trend in Korea but there is something endearing about his character and his loyalty to his in-laws over In-gyeom who raised him. It's too bad Hong does not deserve him.

He is a true warrior and that's what I love about his character. He won't kill the less skilled like Moo-hyul and have total respect for his opponents like he did with Hong Ryoon. Real warriors compliment each other.

I agree with you on Ga Young; I was in a state of denial while she was dying. I thought only her kidneys were failing and they could put her on dialysis or something but I guess the disease is more severe.

As for your question about whether rape in Korea has a statute of limitations, I found this site detailing changes made in 2013. It states that the statute of limitations is lifted for certain cases; not sure if it would apply in Ga Youngs mothers case.

http://klawguru.com/2013/06/14/korean-law-on-rape/

I also found another article detailing changes in law after the film "The Crucible" brought attention to the punishments of pedophiles. Apparently there is no longer a statute of limitations for such crimes. As for Achiara, this may mean that Jisook could still hold the rapist accountable since she was quite young.

Hi all! I haven't watched any kdramas since Twenty Again :(

But I have watched an episode of a local drama in my country, and my oh my. It was such a funny disaster.

Based on the one episode I have watched, I can surmise that it's amazingly terrible with its cringeworthy acting, and completely unbelievable plot.

What happened with last night's ep was, the two leads were kidnapped. (I don't know why or by whom) and somehow, the leading man managed to break free from getting tied up by the baddies and were able to defeat them, saving the female lead from being raped.

Then, they escaped the baddies' den...

And went to a tree to gather mangoes. At night. Just when they've just escaped. And there was a flashback of them gathering mangoes during their better days.

And theh ate mangoes. In the forest. Under the moonlight. With the man happily looking at his beloved.

And I was laughing out loud at the absurdity of it all. They just escaped for goodness sake! And they weren't even traumatized.

I just thought I want to share lol. Anyway, guys, can you remember of a particular scene/drama that was soo ridiculous? Haha. Just curious.

Btw, if anyone replies, I won't ve able to read your message or reply back immediately. I live in Asia, and might have a different timezone compared tk those in the west xD

Hai!

Today is quite a hard day for me. I HATE additional task which come so suddenly like very very suddenly. It comes from my lecturer (I am an assistant) and I can do nothing but do it anyway. The sudden task ruined my whole plan to stay at home to finish my two final reports. Sigh.

I REALLY want to watch Oh My Venus but bad timing I guess. Imaginary Cat is sooo tempting yet no website sub it, hiks. So, I am not watching drama right now. Until next week!!

6FD is a treat. I couldn't believe Moo-Hyul was dumb enough to walk around wearing the Viper's duds.

The fact that Gil Tae-Mi didn't kill him is one of the things that makes Gil Tae-Mi's character so cool, (for a bad guy ).

I also liked the stand off between Gil Tae-Mi and Lee Seong-Gye .

The cast is doing a wonderful job.

6FD - In defense of sweet and comedic Moo Hyul, he was wearing Viper's threads but he did not know that its the one he wears to fight. He just wants to look cool and be recognized as a swordsman.

Looking on the positive side he met Gil Tae Mi who told him that he has talent as a fighter, about his teacher and it temporarily dispel the hunting scent of the Viper from Gil Tae Mi's & crew.

Other - I am so loving this show and will miss Gil Tae Mi. I'm sure that we will be seeing an amazing fight scene next week. Gil Tae Mi will be missed but as an adorable badddie he's got to go - time's up.

Hi Everyone and a Happy OT and a belated Happy Thanksgiving.

There is one show that I skimmed through this week that I thought I'd like to ask you about. It's the British (either ITV or BBC) adaptation of "Pride & Prejudice", broadcast in 2008 and called "Lost in Austen". If you've watched it before, what do you think of it?

Is it refreshing that we get a beloved story with a twist? Or is it sacrilegious?

Lost in Austen: it's entertaining and fun to watch, a bit silly sometimes tho'. Its Darcy is not as dreamy as P&P BBC series or the movie. Perhaps because it is targeted to young audience, thus the actor is not as charismatic and dreamy as the Mr. Darcy in my mind.

Now, you reminded me of "The Real Mr. Darcy", Colin Firth. He is nailing it there in BBC series (1995)! Matthew MacFayden also captivated my heart in the movie, and made me one of his big fan from then on.

I read "Me and Mr. Darcy" novel too. It's about the woman on her quest for her own Mr. Darcy. It's light, fun and entertaining to read on a sleepless long haul flight across the continent.. I was flying between Europe to Asia when I read it the first time, 5 years ago.. ^^

Thanks, I must remember to go look for this in the library.

I've read other extensions of P&P and Northanger Abbey written by modern writers on the lives of those characters after the Austen ended her books. They don't seem to really stay true to the characters, sadly.

I watched Lost in Austen and it was mildly enjoyable. I wasn't sorry I watched it but it probably wouldn't watch it again. I did like "Death comes to Pemberly". I felt like it kept A true Austen feel.

I have read many extensions of Austen novels, but I think my favorite by far is "An Assembly Such as This". It's from Darcy's point of view during the original course of events. It's the first in a series of 3, but they are all quick reads.

I have seen lost in Austen... don't love it, but It's some good fluff for cleaning to!

omg omg omg I JUST tried to make my friend watch this last night XD

I adore - ADORE - Lost In Austen. It's BBC, and their adaptations are always a cut above anything else. If you love P&P and have a sense of humour for it being cleverly slain in the best way possible (think fish-out-of-water dramas - Mr Darcy comes to 21st c. London and has to come to terms with Teletubbies and "negroes"), I think there's no way not to love it. It's lovingly irreverent and the cast is great, and it's full of twists.

Basically, I love it to death.

also, it's not really an adaptation of P&P: modern girl obsessed with the book reads it all the time. Her own life (and boyfriend) is mundane and disappointing. One day, her bathroom cupboard pops open and a strange woman comes in...Lizzy Bennet. It's like reverse-Narnia, except the cupboard goes to the world of P&P.

It's so great!

(In books, if you like that kind of thing, you might also enjoy The Eyre Affair, by Jasper Fforde.)

It's funny, I have very little tolerance for straight Austen adaptations by Hollywood/movies but I LOVE the stories that basically just transport the characters and plot to the present day and see how that spins out. Like Clueless (Emma in the 90s), or Bridget Jones' Diary (P&P in the 90s).

Aaah so many nice recommendations! Thanks.

I see that the overall feel is positive, as long as there's a reverence for the source work and it's an intelligent adaptation, not out to just get a rise from viewers/readers. :)

to me, the only true P&P is the 1995 miniseries with Colin Firth and Jennifer Ehle (2005 version was a little overdramatic and teenagerish for my taste), but I LOVED Lost in Austen because it does the 'what if' so well. And I loved the actress they cast as Amanda - can't remember her name, but she did really well.

Jemima Rooper! She was also curly-haired George in the 90s adaptation of Famous Five, and Bobbie in the 2000 adaptation of The Railway Children, one of my all-time favourite children's films!

Completely unrelated, but 2004's BBC adaptation of Sense and Sensibility (3-ep miniseries, I think) is the best BEST S&S adaptation ever.

BBC adaptations are fantastic at Austen, their versions keep a lot of the atmosphere and nuance that gets overdramatised or lost in more Hollywood-ish adaptations. The 2009 Emma is still my favourite live-action version of that book, I loved Romola Garai in the title role because she was just so perfect as Emma.

0

reply

Required fields are marked *

Yes, Romola Garia was perfectly cast as Emma! A lot of people criticized her because she was a little too expressive and un-mannered, but I felt like she was the first actress "get" the character. Most actresses have just sort of affected elegance and left it up to the script to show how misguided Emma's interfering ways are...but Romola's Emma is a curious and imaginative spirit suffocated by the tedium of daily life, who finds an outlet in interfering with her social circle (which, as a woman in Regency England, was about all she could do).

And on the more shallow end of things, her curls were so pretty!

0

Romola Garai is a fantastic actress, but I admit I may be a little biased since I've loved her in everything I've seen her in - including Dirty Dancing: Havana Nights (where her American accent and dance skills may not have been top-notch, but she had such flaming chemistry with Diego Luna that I didn't care).

That movie may be written off as a flop but I loved it, anachronistic music, pretty 50s costumes and all. And it did make me a huge fan of both leads. I wasn't too surprised to learn they dated briefly afterwards :).

0

BBC and Austen = win win. I go back and forth between BBC period dramas and Korean sageuks. On top of that, Sherlock season 4 just had to go Victorian era on me. I'm going to die of happiness lol. I swear I was born in the wrong era.

Oh God, you're not alone in feeling that way. I also feel the same! I keep falling madly and hopelessly in love with "ancient" character from textbook, encyclopedia or historical romance novel.. Yup, ancient, that's what my hubs said.

I love S&S too! Here comes the same old question: Is love a fancy or a feeling? *groan* ..I don't know. I simply don't know..

0

I'd take "Sense and Sensibility" over P&P any day.

+1. 2005 P&P was as if Charlotte Brontë had written it, instead of Jane Austen (unrestrained performances, the original's rich social commentary and sense of humor trampled by melodramatic script and cinematography). 1995 is legit, though I'm so picky about Austen I don't think I'll ever be satisfied with an adaptation. Aside from really superficial complaints I have no one to blame for but myself (neither lead fit how I imagined the characters), Colin Firth's portrayal just did not really fit my interpretation of Darcy--I saw him more as grave and reserved, not haughty and sexually frustrated--and Andrew Davies' script lacked subtlety in parts.

You hit the nail on the head there - I don't think any adaptation of Austen can ever fully satisfy everyone, but 2005 P&P really bugged me because it made Lizzy behave so wildly out of character for her age and era - yes, she could be witty and biting but I can't ever see her talking back to her own mother the way movie!Lizzy did. It's like the director forgot that a 20-year-old in the early 19th century isn't the same as a moody 90s teenager in an empire-line frock.

(and he did go on to direct the execrable Pan, so yeah, his cinematic choices will be forever suspect to me)

Yeah, I especially hated the scene where Lizzy rejects Mr. Darcy's proposal--Keira Knightley baring her teeth and yelling in his face, soaked to the skin because of course they had to run through the rain because, again, melodrama...and the scene at the end when true love compels him to come striding through the mist at the crack of dawn, half dressed, to call upon a house full of (sleeping) ladies...ugggggh. Even the lake scene in the 95 version was not half as fanservicey or embarrassing, which is saying an awful lot.

idk. I'm okay with modern adaptations (Clueless is still my favorite Emma adaptation, even though I'd argue 1800s Emma was bored and intellectually frustrated, not a superficial airhead), but period adaptations with no period awareness can gtfo imo. 2005 not only didn't follow the text--it didn't even follow the spirit of the book (while 1995 excelled in the first count and did passably well in the second).

0

I was somewhat bemused by the 2005 adaptation. I too found the characters out of character and since how Elizabeth and Darcy are in themselves and to each other, and how they grow, in the book really makes it the classic it is, the movie didn't work for me. I could have just taken it as a strange period romance but not P&P.

0

hahaha I said the same in wonderment when that movie ended - how did the Brontes get in here?

Yes the 1995 version is my ultimate favorite, being the closest to the spirit of the book and the attitude of the characters created by Austen. I loved it in spite of the strange wet shirt scene which gave me pause and puzzlement. LOL!

I read online that Colin Firth caused a minor uproar when he confessed the shirt wasn't really all that wet and he had not emerged from the pond in actual fact. Heheheh!

First of all, so glad that Yoo ah In won the award! I'm such a bad fan. I didn't know he was in some movies until weeks ago I read people mentioning his role in Sado / The Throne, and Veteran. (Anyone knows where I can watch those movies? I can't find them anywhere. help!)

Better late than never: I finally managed to watch Misaeng! It is so good. The FEELS. It has slow pace, but I don't mind, as long as our good guys have their great days they highly deserve to get after going through hell at work.

SFD: LOVE it. Episode 15 was a bit boring for me, but Episode 16 was so unpredictable. It's just full of surprises. Hopefully it will stay good until the end.

OMV: getting better. I can't wait to see the leads fall to each other. They are so cute~. I can see their scene alone and forget everything else in that drama lol.

Happy leftover turkey day everyone in US!

It started raining in the North Texas area in the afternoon of Thanksgiving day and is predicted to continue through Sunday am.

Cold and raining days is the perfect setting for watching dramas under warm and cozy blankets!

Watching:
All About Mom - things are a-happening here! Love Lee Sang Woo - that man has the prettiest smile! When i squint my eyes while looking at him - he does resemble Ki Tae Young who is Eugene' real-life hubby! Any way - Mina of AOA is going to be joining the cast and bringing trouble to Hyeung Soon and Chae Ri's world.

Enjoyed watching Mina in Modern Farmer last year and looking forward to her joining the cast. I still chuckle when i remember those funny/zany scenes of Modern Farmers!!!

Awl: Watching for subs too.

Bubble Gum: have to catch up on Eps 9 and 10 - scarred to see them as we get into melo territory.

Oh My Venus: Enjoying the show. The 3 guys are just so cute and I love Shin Min Ah - she is so adorable and i like her character here - so sassy and determined!

Sweet (and Savage) Family:
This is a funny show but with lots of heart. Am enjoying it.

Throw back Thursday:
I had binge-watched all 58 episodes of Ojakgyo Brothers/Family during the last 14 days! Good drama -
Enjoyed every episode. The 4 brothers are a hoot - good casting of the characters and well played out. The female counterparts are also good. My fav OTP is the maknae Tae Pil and the aunty. The actress who played the Aunty is so beautiful and seem familiar to me but couldn't place which drama i had seen her in until I found out that she was the lady chemist in Miss Korea which i watched. Wow!

Looking for another oldie but goodie to start. Have to check out my 'watch-list' selection - maybe a 16 episode drama to start tonight and finish by Sunday because i am NOT braving the Black Friday shopping frenzy - will be hiding out in my she-cave to avoid the crowd and cold and wet weather!

Stay safe everyone!

I didn't recognize him at first, especially after seeing him in tons of weaselly husband/sidekick roles in shows like Punch, Secret Love Affair and End of the World. Not watching so much this past 1+ month. Dropped SWP, just watch LMIYD, 2 weeks ago I started Bubblegum then recently Imaginary Cat.

After re-watching old dramas: IRY, KMHM, TB, Faith, AATM and Secret, on 1 restless night I stumbled upon Faith the novel translation in breathlesssurvival site. It was sooooo captivating! Way more than the drama itself since I able to dive deep into Choi Young daejang's tumultuous mind. His mind went riot whenever he looked at his imja. Sadly the novel stop at Volume 2, thus the hopeless romantic in me still thirsty and look for the follow up story of the great general who turned into a romantic who was only able to sigh every now and then.

I read the novel translation with Quest for Camelot OST, "Looking Through Your Eyes" as background, it hits all the right notes. The song mirrored daejang's feeling when he helplessly fell deeper and deeper in love with the heavenly doctor.

Then I accidentally found an amazing fanfic by NaNu107 titled "In The Years Imja Was Gone", about the 4 years waiting and separation. This is the first time of me reading fanfic, and I do enjoy it! I read this while listening to Honey & Clover OST, "Namida".. Uhh, wrong move. Not good for my soul. I weep and my heart constantly in pain. The separation written soooo touchingly, from daejang's perspective, and his feeling was written so raw there.

Then I continued by reading the follow up fanfic: "Less Than A Hundred Years", a 99 chapters' fanfic *gasp*. It is about the life after the waiting and separation ended till the death of the great general. NaNu107, the writer, did a great job in sticking as hard as s/he can to the chain of history. I know it's a fiction, but it successfully give me a sense of closure and satisfaction in reading the great general's life. It was so touching, yet funny, yet captivating, yet sexy, yet it made me sobbing so hard when I hit the last 2 chapters..

And, coincidently, that was the same time as Bubblegum hit the melo-land.. My heart was twisted, wrenched and I shed more tears in a week. Gosh, I never know that I have so many tears left in me.. I thought I already spend it all. I am mistaken.

Now I am on a quest for a nice-addictive distraction.. Something light, something romantic and funny, and with dreamy casts as well... Umm, is there any such drama airing right now?

I always imagine what the characters are doing when we dont see it. and what they are doing in the moments that the action doesnt involve them (eating potato chips? washing the donkey?)

you know someone should make a drama called "Candid Camera of a Romance Drama" or "secret life of the perfect second lead" which would be a meta-show on how characters would act if there wasn´t a director and a writer to guide their moves and the viewer to constantly follow their every move. is what we see everything? I bet they would act a little like very naughty cats.

Answer Me 1988- I don't know if it's because I turned 3 in 1988 or what but something isn't quite clicking for me. I love it but for the first time in the series I feel the length of the episodes. It never bothered me in 97 or 94 but now I'm watching and loving it but at the same time I'm thinking to myself, omg does this ever end.

lol I'm almost the same age as you but had the exact opposite experience re: the lengths of Answer Me 1994 and 1988 - 1994 was the one that ended up feeling like a chore to me, while 1988 seems to move pretty steadily. (and with all this, 1997 starts to seem so much more compact and less self-indulgent story-wise, its episodes were literally half the length of the later series - and sometimes even less).

I never got past episode 3 of Because It's the First Time even though I love the female lead. Minho's acting, thankfully, didn't suck.

I agree, she's good in some scenes but not even close to as good as Jung Eunji and Go Ara - the simpleton act feels laid on a little thick at times.

I really hope she doesn't automatically start booking acting lead roles after this, I doubt she'd do too well out of the Answer Me bubble (unlike Eunji). She wouldn't be terrible, but not even close to good.

Oh My Venus isn't half bad, but I do hope it doesn't collapse in the middle like an undercooked souffle - that's way too common with romcoms.

Still making my way through Answer Me 1997 to cope with Sassy Go Go withdrawal - I'd forgotten just how much I loved it. Hyeri's pretty decent (mostly, that is. She still comes across as slightly laboured in some comedic scenes) as the heroine of Answer Me 1988, but her character doesn't carry the story the way 1997's Shi-won does. And I really enjoy 1988 too - the 90 minutes don't feel nearly as interminable (so far) as 1994's.

Also watched The Secret Reunion, starring Song Kang-ho and Kang Dong-won, which is about a North Korean secret agent forming a very reluctant allliance (and eventual bromance) with a retired South Korean agent who was the man in charge of hunting him down. It's kind of your standard spy thriller, but I really stayed for the bromance.

And no dad." boy 1: "really? but don't you need a mom and a dad?" boy 2: "Even boy 3 has two moms." adult: " the one that used to go in the kindergarten? He has a mom and a dad" boy 2 *thinks for a moment* "No he has two mums now! because... because his dad died and his mum married a woman" (the dad was not dead. He was working as a fisherman, and the boy's aunt had come to live with them for a while xD)

- One of the pre schooler boys one of the girls a kiss on the cheek. He was rewarded with a slap. She was not impressed (clearly a lack of candy)

- 4 year old declared to his mum that he was marrying girl 1. When his mother questioned if that was possible right now, he ended up crying and said he would run away if he couldn't marry her.

- one of the 5 year olds is truning out to be the perfect second lead. All moony eyes, hugs and sharing food. Just to be left for another guy once play times comes around.

Dramaland: it's as dry as a dessert for my part.. Need to start on my list, but feeling no motivation atm.

Hi! ..... Hope you're doing well. I have to run, but before I go, the second lead toddler! Only 5 and already underappreciated, just like in dramaland.

Wishing you good luck for your interview!!

And I never thought I'd say it, but one of your kdrama toddlers (the slapping one) sounds like me at a similar age - I have a distinct memory of slapping/shoving a little boy for the exact same thing when I was about 5 years old, ha. No candy there either!

Lately i watch dramas from almost every east asian country lol (except thailand, but i have some of them on my watch list)

Watching:
bubblegum - and here wo go to the melodrama..who says that was a rom com? definitely not. i love the leads very much but i don't have enough patience for their noble idiocy which will probably continue untill the 2 last episodes. lucky we still have the side stories which keep me interested such as the writer friend and her ex the alcohol addict. the dj and her maknae suitor and so on. tho i have to say the male lead's mom acting so on point, i can't hate her at that point even if she brings difficulties to our OTP.

From five to nine - this is the first japanese dorama i watch after some years i didn't watch when they aired live and i love it! it is so dynamic and lively! the female lead is spunky and the male lead is cute. also there are lots of eye candies. too bad it's only once a week and its subs are taking forever. also it is goinf to end in a month.

Love me if you dare - amazing and can't add more! it's the first time i watch wallace huo and i like him! whoever thought about him in this role is genious! i couldn't imagine other bo jin yan. i also watch sandra ma for the first time and she's really cute and fits the role of the pretty and smart assistant. didn't watch yet this week episodes but i'm so looking forward too after currently reading the chapters that supposed to be in those episodes. i'm sure it won't be too sexy and revealing since it's chinese drama after all but i hope to be surprised lol. in addition, i love wang kai and the male lead bestie! as i know it's thriller so i fear something will happen to them later..please don't hurt them drama.

Marry me or not - so far so good! roy chiu and alice ke are naling their roles! each episode is so fun and quirky! this drama is like nice pudding that waits to be eaten. as i have bitter experience with tw-dramas i hope it keeps its awesomeness and stays good.

Oh my venus - ep. 3-4 were much better than the first ones and made the drama promising. the OTP is great and i love their scenes, one thing is sure they have chemistry. another advantage is SJS bros who are so dear and adorable! hope this drama keep going in the right direction.

Aeyop! Happy thanksgiving and happy black Friday (I haven't found anything to buy yet though...)

I just finished watching Greatest Love (also known as Best Love), followed by City Hall. Both of these were great. I became curious about Greatest Love as people keep making references to Dokko Jin this and Dokko Jin that...So interesting to see the acting style there in the character of Dokko Jin, which combined the outlandish ridiculous and camp and something more simple and heartfelt. I see a similarity to that and the character of Lee Gun in Fated to Love You, though I think Jang Hyuk and his director manage the transitions from outrageous to heartfelt much better.

City Hall was great, especially for Kim Sun Ah. She's amazing. Even Mi Rae can be a little annoying and in your face, you can accept it as part of the ballsy type of personality that makes it in politics - I really believed her. Great story too, though the last episode tried to tie everything up too nicely. The leads' romance was lovely though.

So currently still watching Love Me If You Dare - still going well.

Also watching Oh My Venus, not so sure yet, all that saving and saving is a bit annoying; and Bubblegum. which kind of jumped the shark for me in the last two episodes. Ri Hwan's mother just isn't nice enough for me to care about her plight so much to accept that everyone else has to suffer so much. Sorry, but in those situations, professional hired care can help any family manage, there's no point draining people to the point where everyone else breaks down too.

About to start on Imaginary Cat for no other reason than there's a fat orange tabby in it. Love love love.

This K-drama lark doesn't seem to be abiding...and recently K-pop has been waving at me too....oh dear...

How about Secret Garden?

I know a lot of people online have said they love it, so I may be in the minority, but it's not a favourite for me.

I found the plot completely ridiculous - I understand there is K-drama logic, and K-drama fantasy. Eg. I Hear Your Voice. But once a drama sets up its world, it should stick to the logic built into that world. I found Secret Garden a mess of genres clumped together, and the fantasy element not explored to a meaningful end.

I find Hyun Bin okay, his turn in Kim Sam Soon was pretty fun to watch. I just found his character constipated in SG, and there was far too much wrist grabbing and going against a woman saying no for it to be comfortable.

In this, I only liked the character Oskar. He was very well played by Yoon Sang-Hyun.

Required fields are marked *

I wasn't a fan of Secret Garden either. I only remember liking the episode where the fantasy element was first introduced but like Dramapanda said, it fell flat afterwards. If handled differently, it could have been a very fun drama but instead it was quite unmemorable for me.

But I know many love it. I guess it's just not my kind of thing. I've noticed that my taste often differ from the majority of kdrama lovers and I feel like I am missing out on something. For example, Boys Over Flowers, My Girl, Master's Sun, You're Beautiful and Playful Kiss were also very popular (and loved) dramas that did nothing for me.

part infuriating, but Ha Ji Won was mighty funny after bodyswitch. Hyun Bin too, when hi was "Gil Ra IM" when he was "himself" not that impressive

I really liked lee Jong seuks´character though he himself was a bit raw and wooden that time. and I can´t stand Lee Philips´face.

but yeah, if only for the funny parts.

I'm one of the people who loved it; I still listen to the ost and I'm thinking of rewatching it. For me, Ha Ji Won and Hyun Bin had great chemistry and made me want to see they're story through to the end. I do agree that the fantasy trope was a bit underused and the rules weren't really established; but I think the heart was there. Some of the scenes were also comedy gold haha. I hope you do try some of the episodes to see if you like it!!!

Enjoying Sweet Savage Family. Went into it suspecting it would be rather dumb, but it is funny and quirky. The husband and wife leads are great together, glad for some good laughs after such serious fare as Six Flying Dragons, The Merchant, and The Village. Waiting and waiting for ep 9&10 of Awl to be transcribed as well and Snow Lotus. Gave up on Bubblegum, just wasn't my cup of tea.

you know what, I seem to have to ask a question from you after all.
background: we have the local version of Your Face Sounds Familiar reaching the final show, and while men have given better singing performances perhaps, women have managed to be funnier. I have always thought women have a better sense of humor in my country. I dunno, men have stupid alcohol related jokes and sexist comments served as humor, while women do the word twisting and intelligent kind of humor.

So question is: How about Korea and dramas (and variety shows)? what is the scale here, who crack you up more as a rule, men or women? who deliver their comedy part better ? and is there any difference to the style of humor they have? (men more physical, women verbal?) like, in short, the percentage of your favorite comedic performances given by the ladies vs by men

Going back and forth with my obsession of Six Flying Dragons and Reply 1988. To be more specific, from Moohyul to Junghwan. I've been so into watching BTS of SFD and it surprised me how different Yoo Ah In is on and off cam. He's this freaking shy and adorable guy off cam and a freaking complicated Lee Bang Won on cam. He's so going to win all the awards again (with Byun Yo Han).

I've been dragging my Mom to 88 and so far we only watched 1 episode. She said it was boring (Damn you, 1 hour and a half episode!) but I'm not going to give up. She'll totally be sucked by episode 3. I just know it.

So pissed that tvn suddenly cut Grandma's Robot at 6 episodes. That show is so fun! Too bad the cost of the robots are too heavy a burden for them. So going to miss Tokkaengie. ㅠㅠ

Still recruiting people to go with me for Infinite's concert in Vancouver~~~ Anyone interested in going? :)

Have a happy weekend, beanies~

you write your life story. do you really want the story to end on a negative note or will you keep believing in a happy end?

when I was unemployed and kicked out of the house I felt the same. but what kept me in line was... I felt I still had something to give, even if that was the last of my positive energysucked into the black hole of ungratefulness and indifference. trust me, it will pass. if you feel like crying then cry, but learn to also release all your tensions through it. in the end it doesnt matter. all that matters is to have a long and interesting life story, there can be bad things, people love bad things in other peoples lives. it makes the story more appealing. none of us know if our story has a happy end, but there is no point quitting because of that. dont you want to know what will happen? your next episode might be the turning point.

That's really tough, but I believe things can get better.

Failure is normal and everyone does it. It's a part of learning, for example, but also it happens because some things are out of our control. It can feel really bad, but it doesn't reflect on you as a person. You're still smart, and capable (even if you don't feel like you are).

You can find new people to replace the ones who betrayed you, or depending what they did and why you can choose to forgive them.

You can get through this. Take care.

Don't let the monster called "depression" win! People fail all the time only to bounce back. Think of yourself as the lucky one instead. If you watch what happens to people in war zones all over the world you might reconsider.
And last but not least, you MUST find someone to talk to about your worries and problems (it doesn't have to be a professional but a professional is always much more helpful). None of us is absolutely alone and you may be surprised by the number of those who're willing to listen to you. Talking out loud about yourself is the first and most important step because just by listening to your thoughts as they form into words you could always discover the most useful and worthy person of them all : yourself!
Hang in there and fight... Life is precious and it's the ONLY thing that totally belongs to each one of us, nothing else is ours.

It sounds like you may be depressed as several people have noted. 1. If you can, get professional help.

Number one is key, and the following are just things that have helped me out in the past. I am not a professional, so again, just things that have worked for me. I hope they help.

2. Do you know if you tend to feel this way based on situations in your life or do you have moments in your life that you feel this way regardless what is happening externally? 3. Give yourself a break, you are not important or needed based on anything you do, but simply because you are. 4. This is going to sound in some ways contradictory to number three, but it is more about balance. If you feel up to getting out of the house try to go to a place with a bit of nature. A park or even just a place with a bit of green. Watch grass, birds, trees, etc. They are a nice reminder that there are a whole planet full of life that does not have to get great grades, the best job, etc. 5. Eat well. 6. Help out other people.

Probably number 5 should be eat well, sleep well, and if you can get in a bit of exercise do that. And maybe a number 7. If art inspires you go to a museum, listen to music that is inspirational or motivational or sympathetic, etc.

Mei, I am really concerned about you. I remember feeling like this in the past, and I know that when you get to this point, you are out of energy, and the best, really the only thing you can do is reach out and get some help. I hope that you live in an area where that is possible. You took a brave step in voicing your feelings here on the OT, but you must go further, and really help yourself by asking someone around you for help. It may be a doctor, a teacher or someone from your religious faith who can help you, but you MUST ask. So take what tiny speck of energy you still have and do it.

I realize this is about you, and not me, but I just want to share with you a little of my experience. When I was much younger, I went through a very hard time: family rejecting me, boyfriend that I deeply loved breaking up with me, close friends dying, grandmothers dying, and a cousin who was my noona committing suicide; all this within less than a year's time. I had nothing left, and thought about giving up too. I doubted my ability to accomplish anything, and compared myself to others only as a failure. But I did one thing before what I thought would be the end, I called a doctor's office and asked for help. They saw me, and though I didn't really have a great feeling with that doctor, I found a counselor through him that I could talk to. I took medication for awhile to restore my seratonin levels and reduce anxiety. It took me awhile before I could say I felt like living again, and a couple of years before I felt like I could function fully. Since then I've had many good times, and recently, some very bad times. But now I know that I can make it through this too; I learned that when I made it through my darkest days before, and that others who want to help are out there, just waiting to be asked.
So please, be kind to yourself, don't worry about what anyone else may think, just ask for help. And in the future, if someone needs your help to get through a rough time, you will be there for them. (If time travel Kdrama has taught us anything, it's that everything happens for a reason!) Hang in there, dear Mei. You are an important part of the world of other people, but you have to give yourself time to figure out how to be that for yourself first.

also, listen to music. positive, energetic music. absorb it. it is not just a psychological influence. music affects the core of our cells. recent studies show it even affects the DNA of the cells. that´s because it makes the water in your cells vibrate on a certain wavelength. you need to find the music that makes you feel a little sizzly, like you are about to boil. that PHYSICALLY goes through you. it will not only make you mentally calmer and stronger, but it can build resilience and aptitude for life. It is no mere accident that cultures started from dancing and drumming. those waves and vibrations wake up a higher level being in us. I know it sounds weird. It would especially be good if you listened to live music. go to concerts. the air that goes through a musical instrument is loaded with the same vibrations. that´s why music can get people extatic, chanting and jumping on concerts and feeling powerful and unbreakable. because you literally are...
the vibrations of the world are hectic, cruel and unsupportive. but we need to build a shield against that negativity. in addition so music, having a thing that totally absorbs you would be good. for me, it is often writing or research. what could it be for you? don´t know.

I will recommend you open Spotify and listen to a few of these: Etana "People talk", Tessanne Chin "Hideaway", Songhoy Blues "Soubour" and "Nick", Ewert and The Two Dragons "Pictures" and "In the end there´s only love", Oingo Boingo "Out of Control" (saved my life, the message in this song is strong), Jamiroquai "Corner of the Earth" (will make every cell cry, but happy tears), and listen to songs that have a lot of bass sounds and heartbeat rhytm. it will help to calm down.
you can consult a music therapist, if you don´t believe me.

I can only tell you my solution to my depression and suicidal thoughts,God. Jesus to be exact, i know how todays world is,they make a mockery of faith but it is what will give you hope, love, healing, peace and contentment. This is from my own experience, i won't go onto details but already depressed, not knowing the days or time that has passed,Falling sick, betrayal by family and friends, its worse when you trusted them completely after which i had to shut down my business because it reached a point i couldn't leave the house, being consumed by fear,it was horrible. Even if circumstances dont change,, your mental health is what determines your outlook, its a battlefield of the mind.Tune in to TBN, you'll find the darkness leaving, i did that even as a muslim at the time and it got me through it.
And if you can afford it,see a therapist, it helps to talk about it to the right person.
This is also something that i do,i watch fun dramas, it might sound silly but it helps me laugh and not be in my thoughts and happy endings do lift my spirits.
I lost faith in human beings after being betrayed and i don't allow them to get close o me,but thats the thing, you can't trust man completely, he errors, you can only trust God 100%, i hope this allows you to let go of the feeling of being betrayed eventually, it takes time.you'll find that you'll forgive them even if you don't allow them back into your life.

Mei, please do take advantage of calling a depression or suicide hotline. They are there to listen and help and don't involve money, doctors referrals or even getting dressed or leaving the house. You can google for numbers and even for "what to expect when you call a suicide hotline". Calling them does not necessarily mean that you're suicidal, it just means you'd like some help with your thoughts. Please give it a try.

this too shall pass. when we can't see the sun, it doesn't mean it's not there. and when fog or clouds disperse we can enjoy the sunshine again. life in itself is worth living. bad people are everywhere but so are good.

Only thing I'm watching right now is AM 1988, and honestly its been so long since I felt this way about a drama (Misaeng was probably the last). It has this way of pulling me into whatever's going on in the moment, and I find myself so invested in the characters and their little moments of growth. Love what they've done with the romance this time too. Its part of the story, but not the whole story, which seems to be more about the friends/family relationships. Jung-hwan's had my heart from the get go though, and I do think he's most likely the husband, only because it feels like he's at the centre of at all. Its been about him and his quiet crush on deok-sun for a while, and at this point it just feels like we're just waiting for her to figure it out. I honestly don't mind if it takes a while, because watching jung-hwan deal with his feelings alone is hilarious.

Answer Me 1988:
This drama owns my heart. It's so lucky that I got to watch two dramas in a row that focus on friendships (miss you Cheer Up). I am scared to jinx it but the show as been pure perfection for me so far. It's been a while since I have seen a drama where I absolutely LOVE every characters. They are all so well written and relatable. (Like Junghwan and Bora being more than what we see at first glance) If this goes on, it might become my favourite installment of the answer me series. I love the neighborhood concept and that we have 2 generations of friendships. I also love how we have different families. It was a very smart move from the writers because it allows for more storyline explorations. I always love the Sung family but the Kim family are killing me right now. The last episode with the boys home alone had me in stitches. I hope the show keeps handling the romances the way it does. The husband-plot is there but it's not the only focus (which was what killed 1994 for me). Of course I try not to assume too much since we still have a long way to go but I just have a soft spot for Junghwan and I can't help it. That doesn't mean I won't be sad if Taek ends up heartbroken...ahhh this show! What is it doing to me?!?!

Village:
I wish more people were watching this show. The suspense and mystery is quite good and the characters are all intriguing. I absolutely love how they played with the supernatural aspect of the show. Gives the mystery a whole new layer. Yook Sungjae is just perfect as the earnest small town cop. I am really excited to see how it ends next week!!

Imaginary Cat:
I am desperately waiting for the subs. I can't wait to see it. I hope Viki hold their promise that it will be up soon or at least issue some kind of explanation for the delay. I can't wait to see it and I hope it delivers on the cute!!

(POSSIBLE SPOILER)
the preview for tomorrow's episode is worrying me. I really hope what I think will happen won't happen to JB.
(END OF POSSIBLE SPOILER)

I love that the episode focused on the mothers. I felt so bad for Sunwoo's mother but I love how the Kim boys helped her no question asked. The scene where she calls her mother and just cries was so beautiful and real.

The scene where Junghwan tries to make his mother feel needed again was pure gold. I had to watch it twice because I was laughing so much.

Reply 1988 - I have just realized why I enjoyed '97 immensely - I wasn't familiar with the cast(and I was kinda spoiled). So I was able to go with the flow and ignore the husband-hunting. My problem is that I'm Go Kyung Pyo-biased haha. But I forget that while watching anyway and root for Jung Hwan. And yet, for some reason, I kinda want the husband to be Dong Ryong. Now that would be surprising and unexpected, eh? It's just unfair how (almost)everyone takes him out of the running like it's the most obvious thing(which it is at least in Kdrama land plus the wise one needs more screentime!). I love the focus on the families. I guess I really like this one because it's so relatable('97 stole my heart but I couldn't really relate to the fangirl stuff and I skipped '94). The big family and their interactions are lovely. It's not about twists and turns(at least not when we're playing the husband game hehe). It's about those little moments. And it's what makes this show(and series) great.

My Ghost Friend - Good ending. Shu hai and Hong pei were my OTP so it broke my heart how they never really met. The show is ok overall. But I wouldn't have finished it without Bryant Chang. ;)

This week finished watching "She Was Pretty" and enjoyed it. Started watching "Oh My Venus"- I feel like I should be loving it but I don't know, I feel like something is missing. I'll keep going since people say ep 3-4 are better.
"Kiss Me" (Thai)- loving it. It's now officially my fave version-Tenten/Naoki actually apologized to Taliw/Kotoko, Taliw is not a desperate stalker with low self respect but much more grounded,2nd male lead is a well rounded, realistic character instead of cartoonish comic relief, and the Mom is a real mom instead of a voyeuristic stalker. Plus the chemistry between the 2 leads is fantastic.
Love Me If You Dare-Enjoying each episode.

Kiaa Me Thai - yeah on and off there is that Namkang or whatever with the pushy chin who I just really dont care about and they spend too much time on her (yet nothing important happened)
started very differently from previous versions but now they are stepping into the same bucket...
but done way more realistically

I've been watching the village and bubblegum lately but im really in love with bubblegum! idk why a lot of netizens hate it seemingly and while i will admit that the storyline could be stronger the fantastic acting put in by the cast + the brilliant work done by the PD has really hooked me. I've been crying buckets for the last 4 eps and any show that has me hooked so emotionally is a great show hahaha i hope more people will come to appreciate it!

Why are k-dramas endings always so bad? It feels like when ur telling a kid a sad story and they begin to cry and u say like '''no no no he didn't died, actually he ate a candy before that was enchanted by a witch to make him immortal. He was shocked and grateful for the gift and swore to use it protect the city from now on, and he married someone END '' What is so bad with a real, messy, ending like life is?OK, if u wanna give me a happy ending work for it, make it reasonable, don't break ur own laws. And what is so good about marriage anyway(as an end)?Is the beginning of a colossal mess, pls stop marrying your leaders and making a couple of every character in the show. Is there a drug in the air that make everyone want to be together? No?So stop.

cause they want to make shot dramas and give clusure that makes you want to NOT ask for more. leaving people curious and ending ambiguously would mean they have to make seaon 2... and 3....

Late to the OT again! Even on the Fridays that I have a day off, I can't seem to get here until the party is over. Sigh.

@ Em: Yes, it does seem that way. I don't always like the idea of the two leads getting married, but let's face it, there's a reason Kdrama and Cinderella tales are so popular. It meets a universal yearning to believe. Have you watched "Shut Up; Flower Boy Band"? That doesn't go that way, more of a bromance, really.

I'm still loving Achiara: The Village. Boo to you spoiler posters earlier who didn't warn me ahead of your posts!

I'm glad Bubblegum has picked up a little. I was on the verge of dropping it. The actress who plays the mom was also in That Winter the Wind Blows, and she has a lot more to do here. She's doing a good job portraying someone with AD, and I'm looking forward to see how it plays out. My close friend's mother has AD, and I see a lot of her rigid, unreasonable, demanding behavior in this character. I just hope the show doesn't trot out the faux incest, are they or are they not half-siblings trope.

Oh My Venus: Well, SJS, I absolutely lurve you. Too bad this script doesn't deserve you. Yet. But I'll keep watching, just for your subtle acting skills AND fine looks. Once again, girlfriday, you were right about SJS. I didn't see it until about halfway through Master's Sun, but you were so very right. I bow to your superior skills in all things Kdrama!

Oh yes, and AM 1988. The feels! And thank you OTers for not engaging in the shipping wars here! So boring.

Nothing interesting in kdramas for me right now. Haven't started AM 1988 yet, seems interesting enough though. Probably will marathon it after its over.

Obsessed with I Wanna Be A Sup'Tar. I like it even more than Full House Thai. At first I found the female lead a bit annoying and over dramatic, but I guess it fits her image of wanting to be a superstar. And later I found I didn't like her getting sad either. And the male lead, can I gush over how cute his dimples are? That smile? If a guy that cute teased me as mercilessly as he did to her, I would be a permanent pool of liquid. Swoon.
