Forest of Secrets writer to pen medical drama next for JTBC

Yay, great news! Lee Soo-yeon, the scriptwriter for recently ended Forest of Secrets, is already preparing for her next drama, which is due out sometime next year. She’ll be making a genre and station jump for the new project, which will be a medical show for JTBC. I’m not a huge fan of medicals, but if it’s this writer, I’ll definitely be checking it out.

It’s hard to believe that legal thriller Forest of Secrets was Lee Soo-yeon’s debut drama, since it’s so well-written and plotted out. I’m still catching up on it (and trying really, really hard not to see any spoilers), but it’s definitely one of those shows that has that trifecta of great acting, writing, and directing, so it’s exciting to hear that she’s already at work on her next project.

There’s not much information available since production is in its very early stages: Writer Lee’s completed the synopsis, but hasn’t started on the actual scripts yet. It’s easy to see why the interest level is high this early on though, since her debut was so strong. Once script work is done, they’re planning on quickly lining up their cast and starting filming. What are the chances they’ll get some of the Forest of Secrets cast members to return for a writer-actor reunion? *prays fervently to the drama gods*

We’ve still got a ways to go until this medical show will be ready for the airwaves next year on JTBC, but I’m looking forward to following its progress and seeing who they cast. Now, more importantly, I’m going to settle in with popcorn for Episode 5 of Forest of Secrets for more intrigue with my favorite emotionless prosecutor and badass female detective!

She is not the director of Bluebeard. On Soompi, in one of the later pages, FoS writer's pic has been put up, as the reclusive writer , and she is different than the one pictured in Bluebeard director / screen writer's asianwiki page.
Some have mentioned this before as well , both are different women.

A

Thanks for the info. I just went back and checked and the wiki has changed the writers filmography to show only Forest of Secrets.

P.S. Are you the same "A" from the FoS comments. I was looking out for your comments on the last episodes as I liked your insights.

Have they. Thanks.

Yes I am the same A. I haven't watched the last two episodes of FoS. The drama was taking a lot lot of my time and I pretty much became dependent on it, watching , reading about it. Didnt like how I felt, so I stopped.
I did read soompi remarks and stuff so sort of know what happened (that took time as well, damn me) but have not watched a single clip (yay to me, seriously) of 15 16.

I don't think Ill watch a drama again or may be just be a casual viewer. :) But not in this year for sure.

Thank you for saying this Tom, sorry I haven't seen the eps nor read the recaps. Hope you and others had a great discussion :).

I'm still shocked/surprised that "Forest of Secrets" was her debut. This was a really well-done, thought-out drama from the beginning to the end. Nothing ever lags. Every second and character counts. Excellent debut and I'm now looking forward to more of her works. I'm just still sad that "FoS" is over. :( I literally feel empty inside now.

Given her previous selection of movie actors (M+F) who were in recent strong films. I would think Ha Jung-Woo/Lee Byung-hun types for the male lead and Kim Min-Hee/Han Hyo-joo/Kim Ha-neul as female lead (Dream selection would be Jun Ji-hyun).

The most interesting casting will be the younger leads.

Praying for over 10yrs for someone to convince Park Hae Il to do a drama.
I guess it's not going to happen and I'm ok with it because he is better off in Chungmuro where he gets better scripts and leading ladies that are at his acting level.

Jo Seung-woo has been doing dramas for a few years now so he is used to it.

So glad to hear this. I think there are some writers that are really overrated, so it's nice to see newcomers with fresh ideas getting opportunities. Besides the writing, I loved how the main cast was full of experienced, well established actors. So, I have a lot of hope and faith in this writers next project.

All actors were perfectly cast for their roles in FOS that it would break my heart a little to see them playing different characters.

So, my dream leads for her new drama are:
Ha Jung-woo
Hwang Jung-min
Park Hae-Il
Lee Young-ae
Kim Hye-soo
Son Ye-jin

The shady characters should be:
Hwang Jung-min
Lee Young-ae

They should also include actors like:
Jung Woong In
Kim Eui-Sung
Choi Min Sik

Yes we can dream the impossible especially with the first 3 actors. They are the most wanted in Chungmuro. I just don't see them doing a drama in the near future.

I think Son Ye-jin is much more flexible like Han Suk-kyu and they rock both worlds.
Sassy Hye-soo will only do cable dramas (imo) and I don't blame her.

I've always been all-in for medical dramas.. except when the cast does really disturb me. Haven't watched anything airing on JTBC per se, but because of this writer very likely to give her/his next show a chance.

Pls be good pls be good!

The possibility of seeing more film actors in this drama is pretty high. Maybe Kim Myung-min, Ryu Seung-ryong and Kim Ui-Seong will return to television.

Sounds like Lee Soo-yeon is getting comfortable in dramaland with cable stations where she might be getting as much freedom to write and direct her own work like she did with her films.
So far she has written and directed 2 films, 1 short film, directed part of a documentary and 1 drama.
I wouldn't mind Ahn Gil-Ho at the helm again. He seems to be learning a lot from her.

Not a huge fan of medical drama but I love Beautiful Mind & Romantic Doctor Teacher Kim!

Excited to see who will be casted! Yes to all chungmuro actors mentioned. And maybe some really good drama actors as part of the main casts like Kim Rae Won (I'm dying to see him in a new drama) and Yeon Woo Jin. Unlike others, I don't really want to see same faces from Forest of Secrets, I want to see different faces for this drama. I think all good actors /actresses deserve to work with this writer.

Oh yes white tower!

I think for medical drama, it's all about who is/are the cast(s) (at least for me as I don't really know the procedural part) but if it gets too cringe like Doctors' Crush, I won't regret to pass up. Better next drama for Kim Rae Won, hopefully. I loved him in Punch but I guess I don't really love him as a romantic hero as he always did.

Hopefully you enjoy Beautiful Mind! Jang Hyuk was phenomenal in it.

Honestly can't wait. If she gets a good director and a good cast it'll no doubt be a great one. I've never ever in my 7 years of kdrama watching given a drama 10/10 or called it perfect in every way but for me Forest of secrets was it. Girl's got skills and i hope she keeps it up!!
