Suspicious Partner: Episodes 33-34
by LollyPip
Personal issues get put on the back-burner as a familiar threat returns to menace Ji-wook and Bong-hee. As Ji-wook deals with the knowledge that his own memories may not be as reliable as he once believed them to be, he’ll be forced to consider what happens when a person’s memories actively lie. What is the truth, when even the person who owns the memories doesn’t know what really happened?
EPISODE 33 RECAP
Bong-hee finds herself alone in a hospital room with a suddenly very awake Hyun-soo. He stares at her for a long moment, then he shakes his head and steps toward Bong-hee. She says his name to warn him off, and he looks at her with innocent surprise, asking, “You know who I am?” (I knew it.)
After recalling some confusing new memories of his parents’ deaths that seem to contradict his older ones, Ji-wook heads home, but a call from Chief Bang has him rushing to the hospital. In a hallway, he sees Yoo-jung with Hyun-soo, who walks right by Ji-wook with just a mildly curious glance, not a hint of recognition in his eyes.
Ji-wook finds Bong-hee, who tells him that Hyun-soo was taken for testing. She asks how Hyun-soo looked to Ji-wook, saying that he seemed strange to her.
As they wait for Hyun-soo’s test results, Yoo-jung tells them that they won’t be allowed to talk to Hyun-soo today. Ji-wook asks her to call him when they can see him, and he and Bong-hee leave together. He offers her a ride, but she declines.
Ji-wook seems about to tell Bong-hee that he suspects his memories of the fire that killed his parents may not be reliable. But instead, he just makes awkward small talk about which bus she should take, then cringes at himself for chickening out. He drives past her at the bus stop a few minutes later, noting her downcast expression.
Eun-hyuk, Chief Bang, and CEO Byun have an impromptu meeting, including adorable little Jae-hong, who’s still at Ji-wook’s place. They discuss Hyun-soo, and Chief Bang vows to see him locked up, though Eun-hyuk assures him that Hyun-soo is already in custody and that Yoo-jung will take care of everything.
CEO Byun suddenly asks Jae-hong why he’s still here, getting an irritated eye-roll in response (ha, he’s such a little Ji-wook clone). Jae-hong stubbornly refuses to speak to CEO Byun, but when Ji-wook arrives home, he throws himself at his new friend for a hug. Is it me, or does Ji-wook look a little smug that the kid loves him?
Ji-hae nearly has a heart attack when she finds Bong-hee lurking in her dark apartment, but Bong-hee says in a flat voice that she no longer has a heart. She asks Ji-hae if amnesia is common, but Ji-hae has no idea.
When the stew Bong-hee made is declared horrible by Ji-hae, Bong-hee tucks an envelope into her hand, saying that it’s for her living expenses. Ji-hae frowns at the tiny amount of money, ha. Bong-hee starts to say something else in a depressed voice, and Ji-hae interrupts dryly, “Are you sad? You’re sad again? You’re not the only one who’s sad. I’m sad too.” HAHA, she’s hilarious.
But Bong-hee sighs that she really is sad, and she’s not the only one. Ji-wook stays up late that night, thinking about his new memories. They seem to indicate that District Attorney Jang brainwashed him into believing that Bong-hee’s father killed his parents.
He heads downstairs to find CEO Byun still there, wanting to talk about a reinstatement application that he found. He asks if Ji-wook is trying to become a prosecutor again, wondering if he’s unhappy as a lawyer. Ji-wook admits that it’s frustrating that he can’t do anything about criminals like Hyun-soo, especially when he’s the one that got Hyun-soo freed.
CEO Byun confesses that he didn’t like it when Ji-wook was a prosecutor because he was always exhausted and overworked, and that he always worried he’d end up like his father. Ji-wook smiles at his fatherly concern, saying that District Attorney Jang may not even allow him to be rehired.
Ji-wook approaches Chief Bang to ask his help in learning more about his parents’ deaths so that he can confront District Attorney Jang. Chief Bang interrupts Ji-wook to gloat that he’s thankful for his help, and Ji-wook snarls reluctantly that he’s a little grateful. At Chief Bang’s disappointed sigh, he snaps, “A lot, a lot!”
He finally gets his chance to talk to Hyun-soo, stopping to check in with Yoo-jung first. She reports that the tests showed no damage to Hyun-soo’s brain, but Ji-wook feels certain that Hyun-soo didn’t recognize him when they passed each other in that hallway.
He says this means that either Hyun-soo is suffering from dissociative amnesia (which is caused by extreme stress or emotional trauma), or he’s faking it. Yoo-jung says that the amnesia may have been triggered by guilt, but Ji-wook doesn’t believe that Hyun-soo is capable of feeling guilt.
When he’s finally allowed in the room, Hyun-soo seems eager to speak to him. Ji-wook watches Hyun-soo closely, and he certainly seems to have lost his memory, what with his expression open and his eyes wide and anxious. He pleads with Ji-wook to tell him what he did, but Ji-wook says that it won’t be easy to hear.
Frustrated, Hyun-soo turns to lean on the cabinet next to his bed. As Ji-wook watches him carefully, Hyun-soo slams his hand into the cabinet in an unsettling echo of the temper tantrum he had the time Ji-wook showed him the photo of his past assault victim.
But this time, Hyun-soo apologizes, saying that he’s just upset because nobody will tell him anything. He tells Ji-wook that everybody just asks him what he remembers, but everyone refuses to answer his questions.
He really does seem very worried and upset as he asks Ji-wook again to tell him who he is and what he did. Smiling at his outburst, Ji-wook says that even without his memory, he still seems to be the same Hyun-soo.
He tells Hyun-soo that he used to be his lawyer, and Hyun-soo is relieved, assuming that Ji-wook was on his side, and Ji-wook lets him think that for now. Just as Ji-wook is about to give Hyun-soo some answers, Yoo-jung comes in to say that his time is up.
Once they’re alone, Ji-wook tells Yoo-jung that he’s not sure yet if Hyun-soo really has amnesia. He does say that his personality hasn’t changed, even if the amnesia is real.
When Bong-hee arrives at Ji-wook’s house, little Jae-hong tries to run from her. She fusses at him for coming here instead of going to his aunt’s house, and Jae-hong says that he’s scared there because he keeps having nightmares like Ji-wook. CEO Byun tells Bong-hee to let Jae-hong come here if he wants.
They watch Jae-hong cleaning up after his snack, and CEO Byun says fondly that he reminds him of Ji-wook at that age, fiercely independent and self-reliant. Jae-hong sasses CEO Byun for calling him mature (“You’re mature and old!”), and CEO Byun growls that he’s impudent like Ji-wook, too.
Ji-wook is happy to get another tackle-hug from Jae-hong when he arrives home, though he complains that it’s too hot for hugging. Bong-hee offers to take Jae-hong home, but Ji-wook asks to speak to her privately first.
Once alone, Ji-wook nervously tells Bong-hee that it’s time for her to come back to work, though he says that he thinks they should stay apart a while longer because he has things to work out as well. Bong-hee says she’ll think about it, but Ji-wook orders her to come to the meeting now.
As usual, CEO Byun interrupts their discussion about a case by asking if Hyun-soo has Alzheimer’s disease. HAHA. Ji-wook clarifies that he has amnesia, but CEO Byun insists that he’s lying. Bong-hee agrees that Hyun-soo may be pretending in order to get his sentence reduced, but in her opinion, he seems to have genuinely lost his memory.
CEO Byun calls her gullible and the two bicker like always, until Ji-wook has his usual blowup and tells them to knock it off. CEO Byun says they should look into an old case that’s similar to this one, then swans off to make coffee. Some things never change.
Yoo-jung’s boss is hesitant to issue a warrant for Hyun-soo’s arrest considering that he’s still suffering memory loss. He tells Yoo-jung to wait, and to pay attention to what’s happening around her in the meantime.
Later, Eun-hyuk sees Yoo-jung having lunch in the park and he brings her a drink, then joins her and peeks to see that she’s studying Hyun-soo’s condition. He tells her to eat proper meals, but Yoo-jung says this is easier, since she has nobody to eat with.
Eun-hyuk asks if she’s being ostracized at work because of his arson appeal case, but Yoo-jung says that she’s always been an outcast. That upsets Eun-hyuk, who tells her to either eat or work but not both, then takes her laptop away.
He offers magnanimously to summarize the paper she’s reading, and Yoo-jung grins as she tells him the paper is a hundred pages long. HA, he tries to escape, but she pulls him back down. She thanks him for his help, calling him “friend.”
Bong-hee stays at work until late that night, and eventually Ji-wook tells her to go home and rest. He offers her a ride, not taking no for an answer this time.
EPISODE 34 RECAP
Ji-wook and Bong-hee run into Ji-hae outside her building, and she makes an awkward moment even worse by saying that she thought they broke up. Ji-wook starts to go, but they’re joined by Eun-hyuk walking Yoo-jung home, and the awkward factor increases by about a thousand.
Bong-hee explains that she’s living with Ji-hae, who beams when Eun-hyuk praises her generosity. Confused, Yoo-jung asks if Ji-wook and Bong-hee broke up, but nobody says a word. With her usual lack of tact, Yoo-jung asks why Ji-hae is letting Bong-hee live with her when she hates her guts.
Ji-hae mutters that Bong-hee forced her to let her stay, then immediately takes it back when she realizes that it makes her look bad in front of Eun-hyuk, hee. Bong-hee asks why Ji-hae is acting coy, and Yoo-jung asks who she’s acting coy for. LOL, Ji-wook looks glad not to be the one in the hot seat for once and leaves, and Eun-hyuk sees his chance to flee and follows him.
The guys go get drunk, which makes Ji-wook morose and Eun-hyuk giggly. Eun-hyuk is thrilled to be drinking alone together like the old days, though Ji-wook insists he remembers no such thing. Eun-hyuk pours Ji-wook a shot then tentatively holds out the bottle, and Ji-wook relents and pours one for him.
Eun-hyuk risks Ji-wook’s ire by asking what’s up between him and Bong-hee, and naturally, Ji-wook tells him to mind his own business. Eun-hyuk advises Ji-wook not to break up with Bong-hee, because he won’t be okay if they do. Ji-wook insists that they didn’t break up, yet.
When Eun-hyuk urges him to talk about it, Ji-wook snaps that it won’t make him feel better. Eun-hyuk just nods, knowing what’s coming, and sure enough, Ji-wook starts talking. He says that he’s had nightmares since he was a kid, in which he saw the man who killed his parents in the fire: Bong-hee’s father.
Reeling, Eun-hyuk asks if he’s sure, but Ji-wook says it’s been a long time and memory isn’t accurate, so he’s not sure. Eun-hyuk asks if Bong-hee knows, and Ji-wook just says, “She wants to break up.” Eun-hyuk asks what Ji-wook wants, but Ji-wook says that Eun-hyuk was right, he doesn’t feel better, and he calls for the check.
Again, Ji-wook tells Eun-hyuk to mind his own business, then after downing one last shot, he adds, “And I don’t care about you and Yoo-jung.”
The doctor declares Hyun-soo recovered enough to be questioned, and he braces himself as Yoo-jung tells him that he’s being investigated for the murder of Chan-ho’s classmate, and the attempted murder of Chief Bang. Hyun-soo seems devastated at the thought that he killed someone, but he says that if it’s true, then he should be punished.
At the end of another meeting, Ji-wook tells the others that he has a plan to make Hyun-soo recover his memories. CEO Byun thinks it’s better if he doesn’t remember, but Ji-wook says that there are other people he’s suspected of killing — plus, they need to clear Bong-hee’s name.
Touched, Bong-hee offers to help look into Hyun-soo’s past. But Ji-wook objects, starting to say that she could get hurt like Chief Bang, but he stops himself. Bong-hee says that she’ll be safe since Hyun-soo is being detained at the hospital, and Eun-hyuk offers to help protect Bong-hee (ha, she teases that she’s stronger than him). Ji-wook tells them gruffly to be careful, and when Bong-hee says the same to him, he smiles the tiniest of smiles.
Ji-wook goes back to see Hyun-soo, who admits softly that he supposedly killed a person. He admits that he was shocked, but then he says that he wonders if there was a reason that he killed him, and something frightening crosses his face for just an instant. But he’s all innocence again as he eagerly agrees to let Ji-wook help him regain his memory.
A while later, Yoo-jung brings Hyun-soo a box of his personal items, including an old middle school yearbook, but nothing seems familiar. Another time, Ji-wook shows Hyun-soo photos of his victims, but try as he might, none of the faces stir Hyun-soo’s memory.
At the office, Eun-hyuk goes over the case, thinking that something is off but unable to put his finger on it. Bong-hee brings him a huge stack of papers, all reports on murders that happened in the area where Hyun-soo grew up. He tries to get out of helping to read through them, but Bong-hee is having none of his shenanigans.
They head to the law library, and after hours of research, Bong-hee turns up an article about a string of high school girls who were sexually assaulted. Bong-hee makes a bunch of phone calls and eventually find a teacher who recognizes both Hyun-soo and the picture of Chan-ho with his two friends.
Their search leads them to a small restaurant, where they sit to eat. Eun-hyuk warns Bong-hee not to get her hopes up, but she perks up when she recognizes the song playing on the restaurant’s radio, the same song that Hyun-soo whistled on the street after killing Hee-joon. She looks around, and on the walls are pictures of the restaurant ajumma with a pretty teenage girl.
Ji-wook steps out to take a call, leaving Hyun-soo looking through an old yearbook. He looks almost bored, nothing jogging his memory, but suddenly, he stops cold. He stares at a picture of a girl named Park So-young — his lost girl.
As memories of her rush back to him, Hyun-soo’s face crumples, and he starts to sob. He reaches out to So-young’s picture as if he would do anything to touch her one more time, and he collapses under the weight of his grief.
Ji-wook gets the news from Yoo-jung that she’s secured a warrant for Hyun-soo’s arrest. He goes back into the hospital room to find Hyun-soo, once again composed and waiting for him. Hyun-soo’s face is dark, but he smiles and says that he’d like to go outside.
Blowing off Hyun-soo’s request, Ji-wook packs up the yearbooks. Hyun-soo asks if it’s true that he has no friends or family. When Ji-wook confirms it, Hyun-soo asks if he didn’t even have a person that he liked.
Ji-wook says that he’s been meaning to ask that himself. Hyun-soo grins affably and Ji-wook leaves, and after the door closes, Hyun-soo rolls his eyes in a way that’s all too familiar.
He sits to think, and memories start to rush back into his mind. We can see Hyun-soo practically transforming with each recollection of a murder he’s committed, and he looks disgusted at himself for forgetting who he is. His eyes go dark and flat again as he remembers who he is and why he’s been killing.
A few minutes later, the guard at the door hears a thump and goes in to find Hyun-soo collapsed on the bathroom floor. He helps him up, then Hyun-soo knocks him out with a few lightning-fast blows. He puts on the guard’s clothing, takes off his head bandage, and rushes out of the room.
He nearly runs straight into Yoo-jung on her way to arrest him, but he narrowly manages to avoid her and keeps going. She gets a bad feeling and follows it to a stairwell, where Hyun-soo attacks her before she can defend herself. She throws a few punches, but Hyun-soo evades them and kicks her into the wall, knocking her unconscious.
Ji-wook gets all the way to his car before he realizes that something feels off. He remembers Hyun-soo asking if he liked anyone, recalling that the last thing he’d looked at was his yearbook. Ji-wook pulls out that yearbook, and inside he discovers that one photo has been ripped out.
He barely has a moment to process what this must mean before Bong-hee calls to tell him that she thinks she’s discovered why Hyun-soo kills people. We don’t hear what she says, but what he hears has Ji-wook running back inside the hospital at top speed.
He takes the escalator, but he stops near the top and turns back to look at the descending escalator. One man in the crowd turns to look back at him — Hyun-soo. Ji-wook calls his name, and Hyun-soo breaks and runs with Ji-wook hot on his heels.
He follows Hyun-soo out the doors and into the street, but Hyun-soo seems to have vanished. It never occurs to Ji-wook that Hyun-soo escaped inside the ambulance that’s speeding away from the hospital.
Epilogue.
Both Ji-wook and Bong-hee lie awake late into the night, unable to sleep. Bong-hee sighs, “I miss you, Ji-wook,” and at almost the exact same time, Ji-wook whispers, “I miss you, Bong-hee.”
COMMENTS
He’s back! This seems so strange to say, but I’m ridiculously excited that our charismatic killer is back in business so quickly. Hyun-soo’s absence definitely caused a lag in my enjoyment of the show — just a small one, but the lack of Hyun-soo was really noticeable. He brings a certain fascinating menace to the story that can’t be replaced with dead-daddy issues or even adorable elfin orphans, as much fun as those are. Nobody’s background interests me more than Hyun-soo’s tragic lost girl and his one-man revenge plan.
While I’m a bit disappointed that we won’t be exploring the legal and moral issues of punishing a man who doesn’t remember his misdeeds, I have to admit that when Hyun-soo gave that distinctive irritated eye-roll of his and we knew that he was remembering, I felt like cheering to know that he’s back. Dong-ha certainly didn’t lose any of the intensity or detail with which he portrays Hyun-soo on his little break. I thought it was nothing short of brilliant the way Hyun-soo-with-amnesia was very different from his old self, so wide-eyed and scared and lost.
I do believe he truly had amnesia, yet we could see those flashes of the original Hyun-soo peeking through at times, particularly when he slammed his hand against the wall, and when he asked if he had a good reason for killing those people. This is only the second drama I’ve seen Dong-ha (the first being 2015’s Last), and it’s the second time he’s taken a role and made the character not only terrifying, but also somehow sympathetic to the point that you can’t help but want to see him come out on top.
Speaking of surprisingly compelling characters, I love that Ji-wook’s little shadow, Jae-hong, keeps showing up at Ji-wook’s house long after the cop he accused of murder has been arrested and the need for Jae-hong to be protected is gone. He’s so adorable and sassy, and he reminds me so much of Ji-wook that I hope he sticks around to the end of the show. He’s not happy living with his aunt anyway, and it would be so sweet to see Ji-wook and Bong-hee take him in, giving another little boy the same gift of a happy family life that Ji-wook himself was given as a child. Maybe that’s a bit of a stretch, but Jae-hong just fits so perfectly into the odd little family of lawyers, and they all seem to be more than fond of him.
I’m so happy to see Ji-wook and Eun-hyuk finally taking the first small steps to reconciling, even though Ji-wook is being dragged into it kicking and screaming. I actually think it’s understandable, and true to character, that it’s taken this long for Ji-wook to come around. As far as he knows, he was betrayed in the worst possible way by the person he loved most in the whole world.
And as we saw with Bong-hee on a smaller scale, once Ji-wook makes up his mind about a person, it can take years to change his perception. It’s only Eun-hyuk’s relentless refusal to give up that’s finally wearing Ji-wook down, though they still have a lot to resolve before they can truly be friends again. More than anything else, they need to sit down and have a long talk about Yoo-jung and what really did and didn’t happen between her and Eun-hyuk. If they don’t, then it’s going to remain as a painful wound for both of them, and they’ll never be able to truly be friends again.

The words I would use to describe Episode 33-34 of Suspicious Partner would be subtlety and sensitivity.
Since Ji-Wook trying to find out if Hyun-Soo really lost his memory, he was subtly but firmer.
Or the sensitivity how we can feel Hyun-Soo’s pain and feel sorry for him, even knowing that he’s a killer and will kill again, but SP doesn’t try to justify his behavior, but show us that an tragic event can lead a man to the extreme. An extreme of pain, anger and violence and even maybe guilt.
Ji-Wook uses the same subtle in his conversation with Eun-Hyuk, he really wants to talk to his friend but still can’t complete open himself to him, the pain between them is still present, but neither of them is willing to talk about it, and the resentment only grows. They need to fight, shout, I’m against violence, but if it’s have to, they might exchange some punches.
The relationship between Yoo-Jung and Eun-Hyuk is still sensitive (and I dare say forbidden) but they’re better able to talk about it maybe because they’re the only ones who really know what happened. Eun-Hyuk has always been subtle loving Yoo-Jung from the distance.
And finally, Ji-Wook and Bong-Hee, both being very careful with every word said with every look of desire and pain knowing that is out of their control.

I really think Dong Ha is doing an amazing job with this role - he makes me feel sympathy for a character that by all rights should be so hatred-inducing. Hope he gets a leading role out of this!!

Yes, his facial expressions are so good! He's a pro already.
The way his expression changes from innocent to that creepy shadowy look; & so many emotions going through his face when he remembers everything, just wow.

Jung Hyun Soo is really one of the hearts of this drama! Can't believe how instantly my interest went up again the moment he re-entered the story. I'm glad we're almost pass the "amnesia" part, almost because it seems like he still doesn't totally remember.
Hay, I never thought I'd say this, but... welcome back villain! we missed you! haha!

His spoiled chaebol character was one of the best things about Chief Kim!
And that's really saying something because that show was absolutely packed FULL of awesome.

Still can't see how the sypnosis alludes to the idea of an amnesiac antagonist when this only went on for a few episodes -- also, happy belated birthday Chang Ji Wook oppa ~

True, but the fact that we knew it was coming made it less of a "oh man! not the last minute amnesia again" trope.
So I was kinda happier knowing that I was not blind sighted by it.

1. Can JW and BH adopt that little kid already? I love his adoration for JW and how tenderly JW treats him.
2. Goodness gracious, Hyun-soo! That crying scene broke my heart, I hope Dong-ha has lots of wonderful scripts lining up for him.

Haha, the kid actually reminds me of BH just as much as JW (clinging to him...like she used to *sob* and ignoring CEO Byun LOL), so I really think they're destined to be his parents. Make it happen, Show.

I think so. This kid is combination from BH and JW. That would be perfect if they adopted this kid. Or keep being friends with him. His aunt and uncle ignore him. But ta da, now he's got mother, father, uncles, and grandfather. Lucky boy

Little Jae-hong is just the best; I really do hope they end up taking him in, because it'll just be so sweet and perfect. And it is so funny that they've got him responding to CEO Byun with the same disdain everyone else has for him.
I actually really loved the scene between NJW and CEO Byun in this episode - we haven't gotten quite as many scenes with them alone together, and it was pretty touching to watch them in a more serious moment like that one.
Am I the only one who thinks if you mute that drinking scene with NJW and JEH, it looks like they're in love with each other? LOL! The friendship between the actors really comes through even when the characters are at odds with each other! Looking forward to the inevitable point when they stop being frenemies and turn into best bros again.

That scene with Ji-wook and CEO Byun was really heartwarming. It's one of the few scenes we get with father and son actually talking to each other.
In that drinking scene, I absolutely loved that Ji-wook poured Eun-hyuk a drink. It's clear that they love each other in a platonic way. Wouldn't complain if it was romantic though, hehehe.

JW always been rooting for EH. As he said after they fought with some highschoolers, he cannot hate or avoid EH. because he's the only friends that JW had

Thanks for the recap @lollypip
This show continues to be one of the best of the year thus far. For the most part, the pacing has been quite good. I absolutely love how Eun-hyuk's relationships with Ji-wook and Yoo-jung are on the mend. I'm glad that it happened here because it gave enough time to be understandable given the hurt that was caused, and it gives enough time to get some resolution without rushing things.
I don't like everything though. Sure, the kid is cute and all, and that scene when CEO Byun compared him to Ji-wook at that age was apt. And seeing him with Ji-wook softens his character a bit, but one scene with him in that episode was good enough.
I also don't like how they are drawing out Ji-wook's memories as a kid without some active resolution on it. Sure he asked Chief Bang to look into it, but it's causing too much misunderstandings etc.
Lastly, I feel weird that I'm one of the few that's not as sympathetic towards our killer here. His character is central to the story and character development, but I wish they had explained more by this point.

Hyun-soo was so beautiful at the end that I kept needing to smack myself for being attracted to the psycho! Otherwise, I loved seeing a heartfelt one-on-one interaction between Ji-wook and his adoptive dad, which isn't something we've seen much.

I never thought he was good looking until the scene where he has the electrodes on his head when they are testing him in the hospital, and he looks so peaceful lying there. For some reason his face was so beautiful in that scene. Then I immediately felt dirty.

This scene when Hyun-soo saw the picture of this girl... I almost started sobbing with him. I know he's a psychopath, but I can't help but feel sympathy towards him, especially in those short moments when his mask falls off, showing how scarred and tortured he is.
Damn, Dong-ha was very good in Chief Kim, but this role is on entirely different level. He's insanely good with his expressions; just a twitch on his face or flicker in his eyes and you know something's on. Dong-ha's absolutely killing it (pun not intended).

Thanks for the recap! HS is back, and I'm happier than ever! Until I remember there's only three episodes left, and then I begin to cry.
-BH looks really good with straight hair!
-I just adore all the love between our lawyers. They may be gruff with each other at times, but they just care so much about each other and it warms my heart. I will miss this group so much!
-Wow, so when CEO Byun mentioned dementia during the meeting, was I the only one who forgot what drama we were in and immediately thought of Best Hit?
-I don't support the EH/YJ ship. I want to like YJ, but she's still too whiny and self-victimizing for my taste, and EH deserves someone better.
-That awkward circle of revelations outside the apartment building was hilarious, particularly JH changing her answers whenever EH asked a question. JH around EH is just the funniest thing that I never knew I wanted.
-I keep forgetting about CH. We still need answers, show!
-HS's reaction to the yearbook made me think that he actually did have amnesia...but either way, you could definitely tell when he came back, so to speak. I've said it so many times, but DH is just knocking it out of the park with this role, down to the littlest microexpression.

Thanks LollyPip!
My favourite scene was the awkward meeting of the 5 legal professionals, all in different stages of like and dislike with each other. Their interactitions were such a hoot.
I've still not lost the hope that Yoo Jung and Bong Hee could become girl-buddies, and that when Ji Hae (hopefully) finally realises how unjustly mean she's been towards Bong Hee, for treating her like a criminal, they might actually get on.
I do like how this show is written so that most everything has a follow-up and a pre-figuring. We get to continue to see Jae Hong and know he's alright and we get to see the fatherly side of Byun and the likelihood that Ji Wook will become a prosecutor again. If that means he'll be wearing those more spiffy suits and have his hair up and suave, I'm ALL for it!!! ?

I love to hate Hyun-soo. He's such a great and compelling character, and the actor is beyond fantastic. I feel for him, but I'm simultaneously terrified of him. I thought it was kind of odd that the amnesia thing didn't last very long (I mean, he still has it but his memory is coming back fast) because the writers told us about it from the start. If they were going to tell us that the plot revolves around a killer with amnesia, shouldn't they have had the amnesia happen way sooner and for longer? Eh, at this point I'm just letting it go. I really liked how they incorporated the amnesia into this episode, the only thing that bothers me is that they told us about it from the start and made us wait so long lol.
On a different note, I love Jae-hong. I love him to the universe and back. I want Bong-hee and Ji-wook to adopt him and let him stay with them forever. I want every single meeting in the future to have Jae-hong on the side with his adorably sassy attitude. Heck, I want an entire spinoff show entirely about Jae-hong and his friendship with Ji-wook.

I didn't realize how much I missed their meetings until they brought it back on. I was so happy to see that. It does feel like the drama lost some of its crack factor (for me, the leads' romance was the crack factor) but this drama still has the most adorable set of characters down to jae hong, the moms, na ji hae along with our lawyers. They all are perfectly imperfect and endearing or entertaining in some way.
Also, the scene were jung hyun soo cried after regaining his memories. I unexpected felt a pang of sadness and it made me a think a lot. If the memory is painful, is it better to live without remembering it or instead remember it and let it define the person you have become after going through it (like jung hyun soo has)?

Ooh.. really! I haven't watched circle yet! But, now extremely tempted to.
I agree with embracing your memories but in Jung Hyun soo's case, it just pushed him to the extreme in a dangerous way. Bong hee and ji wook lost their loved ones too (admittedly they were very young) but they channelled those emotions in a positive way. Bong hee became a lawyer to defend people wrongfully accused (her getting framed only made her more determined). I agree and sympathize with Jung Hyun soo's need for revenge, but at what cost? Maybe once they showed us the full backstory, I would probably be swayed to his side. But, right now I don't like that he became a serial killer to get his revenge and didn't care when other people were accused for his murders and that he just was ready to kill anyone (chief bang, Chan ho (by the way, what happened to him?)) who tried to expose him.

I have a love hate relationship with this episode. I love the awkward bit where they all ended up in front of Ji-hae/Yoo-Jung's building, and I find myself wanting more scenes with all characters together.
I also like seeing Eun-Hyuk's relationships being on the mend with both of his old friends.
That said, can someone bring badass Bong-Hee back please? I don't remember where she went, but her character feels so dull and mopey to me now, apart from her interactions with Ji-Hae.
It's sad to see that even SP gives into the same illness most kdramas do: more individual moping than actual communication and collective efforts to find solutions to the problems that present itself.
Come on SP! You can do better!

I agree about the lack of communication. This couple would have become my crack OTP (nam ji hyun and ji Chang wook look awesome together, has amazing chemistry and as characters I loved them both individually and together in the beginning episodes, I still love them, though) if not for the lack of communication part. Ji wook keeps hiding vital information and bong hee takes decisions without considering how ji wook feels about the same things. So, yeah, they lose some heavy points as an OTP for that.

The thing is, they've worked together so well on so many occasions, (enough that I still adore them to bits!) that some of their recent (completely human and understandable) reactions to their struggles can't help but pale in comparison. Lately they've been letting their feelings and fears get in the way of truly protecting each other, when they know it would be so much easier to do if they worked together.
Still, I found I was pretty happy with them by the end of this episode when they were back to working professionally. After letting it get to her in the first half, I actually felt that Bong-hee went back to showing her perseverance and spirit again now that Hyun-soo is back in the mix. I'm just missing that brightness she used to have and hope we can get that back soon. I feel like the show put her through too much because, when I actually tally up everything she's been through, I still end up pretty impressed by how she's ended up. Honestly, I really just want them to let Nam Ji-hyun smile again, because I feel like she gives the show such energy when she's allowed to be sassy and fun.
In this episode, at least, I get why Ji-wook needs to confirm what happened in his memory before reaching out to Bong-hee about everything, but it still creates a level of distance that, at this point, I'm pretty desperate for them to shorten. I hope the show gives us the communication we want between them soon, because they still have so much potential to be a memorable OTP.

I agree with you about BH. She used to have this doggedness (which was what drew me to this drama), but I feel like her spark dimmed as the drama progressed. I do love her interactions with Ji Hae, since they remind me of early BH. With JW and BH not communicating well with each other lately, I'm starting to ship BH and JH's odd frenemy relationship and want more of their scenes. If only we can get early kickass YJ back and on board with being friends with BH and JH. It would have been fun to have all 3 gals be roommates and working together with the boys to take down Hyun-soo (whom I'm really glad to see back!).

Thanks for the recap Lollypip. I agree with your analyses.
I wanna add and reiterate how well acted Ji-wook, Eun-hyuk, and Hyun-soo's characters are. Their emotions in these episodes were so well portrayed that even though their situations were something I never faced, they appeared painfully relatable.
Its also interesting how unlike in I Remember You, Ji-wook and Yoo-Jung are not as quick as David Lee was to pick up on the murderer's intentions, which makes it both fascinating and frustrating to watch but equally entertaining. I just love how meticulous the writer, director, and actors are with their details as they create each moment to make them impactful. Its makes for a drama which despite its flaws I would want to brag about.

as for the flaws, i can't see it when i'm watching this! but yes, there are definitely times when i feel like shouting, "call Hyeon! he can tell you all of this within seconds and throw a few much needed word-daggers at your stupidity while he's at it!" :D the psycho-genius-trio of I Remember You is so in contrast with the fun-crazy-lawyer-family in this show that at times it's difficult to see that both the shows are by the same writer! but the one thing that's common in both is the villain and his need to be understood, which is heart-tugging in a crazy way, just because, hey! they're the villains!
it sometimes even makes me question if i'm sane or if we, as the viewers are 'normal' by the 'human' standards to sympathize with them so strongly! given that there are more than enough differences between the two shows to not claim any similarity, but i can't help but think about Hyeon with Ji Wook and about Min with Eun Hyuk... they were brothers separated by situations and misunderstandings, and these two are the same too... just that Ji Wook's character is so resolved that he doesn't forgive or forget the hurt he received by his best friend easily and Eun Hyuk is very loving and caring of others to the point that he could forget his own well being and feelings for the ones he loves. the two bromances in the history of dramas that i'm sure i won't ever forget! there are so many awesome bromances in dramaland, straight from Reply 1997's to Goblin to Descendants of the Sun and many more, but these are also right there at the top for me, although they sometimes seem kinda incomplete without the other family members, be it Cha Ji An(for the cute family trio) (or Lee Joon Young, for the psycho-trio) in I Remember You or the lawyer family (and Jae Hong) in Suspicious Partner!

LOL @ "call Hyun!"
They need the "psycho team" to help them. I loved it best in IRY when Hyun, Min and Joon Young tried to solve the case together and completing each others sentences like triplets. But if that team stepped in here, it would make chief Bang feel incompetent and / or unnecessary, and I don´t want to do that to Captain.

this episode was so awesome! it had all the elements i associate with suspicious partners now: fun, thrill, doubt, love, cuteness galore and everything else that makes this my perfect drama! i cheered so loud when Hyun Soo was back, kinda like when i cheered when Spidey was back in Spiderman2!! and can Ji Wook and Bong Hee please adopt little Jae Hong already?!
who else was on the verge of crying when Hyun Soo got his memories back and the way they showed his moments with his smiling girl? i think this show is asking a very important question through Hyun Soo, something that he asked Ji Wook a long time ago- what is so wrong with what he did? if those people are actually guilty, and if the law won't punish them, how is his revenge wrong? i'm against Hyun Soo killing innocent people along with the baddies, like Hee Joon, unless he was on his list too. but he did send Bong Hee to the jail, and almost killed Chief Bang, and for the little time that we've known Chan Ho, Hyun Soo had terrified the guy, unless he was also an accomplice in the girl's sexual assault case.
But the point is, if the DA, who has the power of law on his side can tamper with evidence, brainwash a kid and get an innocent person prosecuted for murder and almost kill another innocent person based on circumstantial evidence of his son's murder, i think Hyun Soo's anger is not misplaced. the thing to watch will be how Bong Hee and Ji Wook will get *him* justice at least for the sake of the pretty smiling girl.

I find Cha Yoo Jung interesting and in some ways pitiful. I think she's paid her penance and you can tell she felt bad about what happened between them. Which is why I really hope that she and Eun Hyuk get together. I'm "shipping" them (I'm not a fan of that word since it seems so much like slang to me but I suppose it's applicable in this case).
Because of this and other plotlines, this drama continues to have a lot of reasons for me to watch it. Also, little Jae Hong is a super cute kid. It all works -- except for the incredible coincidence of Bong Hee's father being the one at Ji Wooks murder and the fact that Bong Hee just happened to be dating the district attorney's son, the same one that blamed her father for arson.

Oh, I don't agree about Cha Yoo Jung at all! After she broke up with Ji Wook she just left! We haven't been shown if she tried to patch things up with either guy before she left or during her time away--she just split, and when she deemed enough time had passed she showed up again and expected everyone to forgive or have forgotten. My faulty memory recalls her apologizing once, being told by Ji Wook to kick rocks (or was ignored completely) and she seems to have shrugged her shoulders and doesn't seem to care about that relationship at all. She keeps reaching out to Eun Hyuk and I don't know if its because he's receptive to her reaching out to him, if she has feelings for him, if she misses him as a friend or potential partner, or what. I do find her pitiful but I don't think she's paid her penance at all. She's whined at them both about when they plan on stopping punishing her but I don't think thats the same thing as actually acknowledging she did something that she should feel bad about to someone she's supposed to have been in love with and not seeming to care one way or another about it.

First, of all sorry for my english but it's not my native language, sorry.
wow, the actor playing Hyun Soo is doing a great job, he reminds me the creepy feeling I got with IHYV's killer Min Joon Gook, the scenes feel so charged and intense when he's on screen. And I thought they were going to do something like amnesic Soo ha's trial with Hyun Soo.
I think he has a good chemestry with JCW because, I get the feeling that they feel each other's distrust (and this goes on even with amnesic Hyun soo) and the tension omg.
To me it was a strong scene when Hyun soo was watching the yearbook, I'll admit if that scene would've been longer my tears would be down my cheeks, that song and the lyrics matched the scene.
Idk, about Eun Hyuk and Ji wook realationship. I want them to solve their problem really, they are so cute. Maybe they'll put Eun Hyuk in danger to get Wook forgive and forget (?) .
I LOVE when female characters are badass like YJ she tried to fight HS wow. One of the things I love about this drama is that nobody's stupid. Bong hee sometimes talks like one (her tone and her baby-ish voice annoys me)But they're pretty fast to catch up, well they kinda have too since they're lawyers.

She is, honestly, a pointless character. all the tension there was between her and the guys just vaporized at some point. Ji Hae has a much better click personality-wise with Eun Hyuk, they are jin and yang, soft and hard, warm and cold (EH being yang...). Yoo Jung is just too boring, even if he liked her once. Let them just be friends.
I watched scenes with Hyun Soo (once I had the guts to watch them at all) with this backhead feeeling somethings gonna happen, somethings gonna happen... I didnt trust the amnesia from beginning and I was just screaming internally for them to take more caution! they were too slack with him.

Gosh...i thought that Hyun soo with his amnesia will start liking Bong Hee...is it me or the show?
I was really terrified when he remebered who he was.
I cant wait to found out his reasons for the murders.

IF only this was K2 or Healer, Ji Wook wouldve jumped to the other side of the escalator.
Kinda really feeling this show is losing my interest but I am really only just seeing it to it end for completeness purposes.

Does anybody know the name of the song that Hyun-soo listens too, the one that was playing in the restaurant?
