Suspicious Partner: Episodes 31-32

The truth is a funny thing, both fixed and fluid depending on how you look at it. It’s possible for multiple people to have the exact same experience, yet remember it in vastly different ways. A new case will force Ji-wook to look at his own past with new eyes, and help him realize that what he’s always believed to be true may have been a lie all along.

 
EPISODE 31 RECAP

As they spend a lazy afternoon together, Ji-wook worries that Bong-hee is about to do something. When she turns to him, looking upset, he thinks that this is his sentencing. He tries to hold tight to her hand, but she pushes it away and says, “Let’s break up.”

Ji-wook knows what this is about, and he asks when she found out. She asks him when he learned about her father, and why he suffered alone instead of talking to her. Ji-wook says that it’s because it’s not important to him what kind of person her father was. But Bong-hee argues that it’s important to her, saying that it hurts to watch him suffer because of her, so Ji-wook just promises not to suffer.

With tears in her eyes, Bong-hee says that her father wasn’t the man Ji-wook thinks he was, but that she can’t even insist on it (because the law says that he was). Ji-wook says that’s something they can think about, but Bong-hee says that she hates this whole situation.

She repeats that she just wants to break up, and asks him to stop trying to change her mind. Ji-wook says that he hates this too, because no matter what she says, he won’t ever let her go. But Bong-hee tells him that no matter what he says, it won’t work.

She turns and walks away from him, fighting her tears. As she goes, Bong-hee tells herself that she did the right thing, though she isn’t very convincing and she fears that she made the wrong decision. She wonders where she should go now.

When Ji-wook arrives home, he peeks into Bong-hee’s room, only to find it empty.

Somehow Bong-hee ends up at Ji-hae’s new apartment. She boldly asks if she can stay over for a few days, pushing her way in when Ji-hae tries to shut the door in her face. Bong-hee manages to talk Ji-hae into letting her stay despite her objections, even though they both agree that they hate each other.

Ji-hae isn’t happy about this, especially when Bong-hee flops down on her couch without permission, and she asks why Bong-hee can’t stay with someone she likes. Bong-hee argues that pushing yourself onto someone you like would be rude, but doing that to someone you dislike is different. This is her way of getting revenge on Ji-hae (and getting payback for Ji-hae stealing her boyfriend). HA, I love her twisty logic.

A little sadly, Bong-hee says that Ji-hae is useful right now because Bong-hee was feeling miserable and stressed: “After I hurt him, I wondered all day if I’d done the right thing or not.” She says that she doesn’t know if she’s sane or crazy, and that she feels like she wants to die.

But she brightens a bit and says that seeing Ji-hae gives her the will to fight. Ji-hae sees how upset Bong-hee is, and she gives in, sighing that this is nuts.

Bong-hee can’t sleep that night, her mind whirling with memories of Ji-wook kissing her. She remembers him begging her never to break up with him, and she can’t stop herself from crying.

In the morning, Bong-hee startles Ji-hae by waving to her weakly from the couch and asking her to check her for a fever. Instead Ji-hae slaps a thermometer into her hand, but her temperature comes up normal.

Bong-hee is surprised to get a text from Ji-wook, though all is says is that he’s changed the morning meeting time. She thinks it’s odd that he expects her to go to work, but Ji-hae tells her to snap out of it. She reminds Bong-hee that she won’t be able to get a job at another firm easily, telling her to suck it up and go to work like a grown-up.

Bong-hee goes to work, but when she shows up, the house is empty but for Ji-wook. He tells her curtly to follow him to his desk, where she hands him her formal resignation. Ji-wook pulls out her contract which states that she will work there for two years, and he forbids her to leave before her contracted time ends.

Keeping it professional, he says that he assumed that she would be able to keep her personal and professional feelings separate. He forbids any personal discussions today, admitting that he’s not ready to talk about what happened between them.

He asks if Bong-hee thinks this job is a joke, telling her again to keep her personal feelings out of this. As her boss, Ji-wook says that her job isn’t an easy one to get, and tells her not to betray those who have trusted her.

Bong-hee says that it won’t be easy for them to go on working together considering their situation, because every time he looks at her he’ll think about his father and feel guilty. Ji-wook tells her that she’s overstepping her bounds, and to let him handle his own problems and to worry about herself.

As a compromise, Ji-wook offers to let her take some vacation days, to allow them both some time to regain the ability to think rationally. Bong-hee agrees, so Ji-wook sends her away for now. After she’s gone, he tears up her resignation letter.

In an attempt to get some answers, Ji-wook visits District Attorney Jang to ask about the fire that killed his parents. He gets straight to the point, asking why his parents were murdered.

District Attorney Jang says that it was revenge by someone they prosecuted, but that makes no sense to Ji-wook since Eun Man-soo, Bong-hee’s father, was only involved in a small assault case at the time. District Attorney Jang asks how he should know the man’s motives — he just knows that Man-soo kept complaining to the prosecution, then was found dead at the scene.

Confused as to why they would assume that he started the fire, Ji-wook asks if there was any other evidence. District Attorney Jang says simply, “It was because of you.” Again we see a flashback of District Attorney Jang showing young Ji-wook a photo of Bong-hee’s father, telling him that this is the man who killed his parents.

But District Attorney Jang says that Ji-wook was the one who identified Eun Man-soo as the man who started the fire. Ji-wook doesn’t remember that, and the shock of knowing that he had a role in this lingers long after he leaves District Attorney Jang’s office.

Ji-hae comes home that night to find Bong-hee sitting outside her door with her luggage, still looking weak and pale. Bong-hee takes her temperature again that night, but the thermometer still registers it as normal even though she feels terrible.

She gives in to the temptation to watch the video she took of herself and Ji-wook just before breaking up with him, the one she accidentally made while thinking she was taking a photo. She watches it over and over, smiling at Ji-wook’s adorable annoyance as tears well up in her eyes.

At the meeting the following morning, Ji-wook has a hard time staying focused. CEO Byun addresses the elephant in the room and asks if Ji-wook and Bong-hee broke up, correctly guessing that Bong-hee wouldn’t use her vacation days alone. Ji-wook confirms it, adding dryly that he would like CEO Byun to also take his vacation days now. LOL.

To change the subject, Ji-wook asks how Hyun-soo is doing, and Chief Bang says that he visited him but the doctor says that he’s not getting any better. CEO Byun asks if Ji-wook isn’t planning to make up with Bong-hee, grumbling that he raised him wrong. Disgusted, he leaves the room, with Chief Bang following and vowing to make sure he uses those vacation days.

By now Bong-hee is so weak she can barely move, but her temperature is still coming up normal. Ji-hae comes to check on her, and when she feels Bong-hee’s forehead, she realizes that she’s burning up — the thermometer was broken.

She gets Bong-hee to the hospital and calls Eun-hyuk, who arrives with a frantic Ji-wook. Ji-wook finds Bong-hee sleeping in her hospital bed and instinctively reaches out to her, but then he pulls his hand back without touching her.

Bong-hee’s eyes flutter open and Ji-wook leans down to call her name. She sees him and smiles happily, whispering that she wishes this weren’t a dream. Ji-wook reassures her that it’s not a dream, and she reaches up to take his face in both hands. Ji-wook doesn’t resist as she pulls him near and kisses him.

EPISODE 32 RECAP

Some time later, Ji-wook and Bong-hee’s moms go to lunch together. Bong-hee’s mom wonders how Ji-wook can be so unlike his mother and thoughtlessly tosses out the familiar saying asking whether she found him on the street. But Ji-wook’s mom looks hurt as she says that she may not be his real mom but she raised him from the heart.

Bong-hee’s mom looks horrified at herself, and she apologizes. She says that it doesn’t matter whether she’s Ji-wook’s birth mother or not, because every mother cherishes her child equally.

Later, Bong-hee’s mom complains to Bong-hee that she’s trying hard to be friends with Ji-wook’s mother, but they’re very different. But she admits that Ji-wook’s mom will make a halfway-decent mother-in-law and promises to train her, telling Bong-hee to concentrate on keeping hold of Ji-wook.

Before Bong-hee can tell her mother about the breakup, she’s interrupted by a call that summons her to the police station. When she arrives, she’s taken aback by a tiny little boy who points to her and says that she’s his lawyer.

He’s one of Bong-hee’s former taekwondo students, and Bong-hee learns that he’s the only witness to a murder that happened in a convenience store. But even though he saw the killer’s face, he refuses to answer when the policeman asks him to describe the man, saying that he doesn’t remember.

Bong-hee goes back to the house, where the guys are super excited to see her. She’s brought the boy with her, and they ask curiously who he is. The boy turns to Bong-hee and says, “Mom…” which has everyone gaping, especially Ji-wook, hee.

“…and Dad died,” the boy continues. Ha! The boy adds that he lives with his mean aunt and uncle whom he hates, comparing himself to Harry Potter. He introduces himself as Kim Jae-hong and clarifies that Bong-hee is his lawyer.

The team convenes in the conference room, where Bong-hee fills them in on the case. In flashback, we see Jae-hong drop his money in the convenience store, so when the killer enters and stabs the store clerk to death, Jae-hong is crouched behind a shelf.

He peeks out just as the killer pulls the knife from the clerk’s body, and the killer hears something and approaches Jae-hong’s hiding spot. But before he discovers the boy, the killer’s phone rings, and he stops to check it then leaves the store.

CEO Byun accuses Jae-hong of lying, and Jae-hong turns to Bong-hee to stage-whisper, “I don’t like that ajusshi.” Heh, Bong-hee answers that she understands. Chief Bang and Eun-hyuk stifle smiles as CEO Byun yells at Bong-hee to go back on vacation now.

Bong-hee runs into Ji-wook in the kitchen later, and there’s an awkward pause before she says that she came to look for ice cream for Jae-hong. Ji-wook smiles a little at that, saying that the boy reminds him of someone else he knows. Bong-hee says that it’s been a while since they’ve seen each other, asking how Ji-wook is doing, and he asks in turn if she’s okay (after being so sick).

Bong-hee tenses up when Ji-wook walks towards her purposefully, but he only reaches past her into the freezer for an ice cream bar. She grabs it and hurries away, flustered.

Chief Bang gets permission from Jae-hong’s aunt to watch over him until the killer is caught. Bong-hee can’t take him because she’s crashing with Ji-hae, and CEO Byun and Eun-hyuk are both busy. So even though the idea seems to terrify him, Ji-wook is the only one who can take Jae-hong in.

Once they’re left alone, Ji-wook eyeballs Jae-hong suspiciously, like he’s afraid the little peanut might bite him. Ji-wook lays down the house rules, which include never going upstairs, never walking around alone, and never talking to him.

He tells Jae-hong to just give his statement to the police and go home as soon as possible. Jae-hong just side-eyes the weird ajusshi.

Eun-hyuk gives Bong-hee a ride home that evening, and he tells her that she looks great now that she’s no longer sick with a fever. Bong-hee is surprised to hear that he was at the hospital, and it slowly dawns on her that if Eun-hyuk was there, then Ji-wook was probably there, too.

Eun-hyuk confirms it, which makes Bong-hee loudly exclaim in shock and horror. She mutters that she thought it was a dream, appalled at the idea that she might have really kissed Ji-wook. She understands now why Ji-wook seemed amused when she said it had been a while since they’d seen each other, because in fact he’d seen her very recently.

Poor Eun-hyuk only hears her disjointed half-sentences, and he’s adorably confused and worried. Bong-hee decides to just die of embarrassment and starts banging her head into the window, so Eun-hyuk tries to grab her head but he only ends up with a bruised hand.

Late that night, little Jae-hong has a nightmare about the killer’s blue sneakers walking towards him, and wakes up with a jerk. He creeps upstairs clutching the stuffed Ji-wook rabbit, to find the real Ji-wook sleeping sitting up in his chair. Ji-wook hears the boy coming and gruffly reminds him of the rules. Jae-hong ignores him and comes closer, while Ji-wook squeaks at him to go away like he’s scared he’s going to catch cooties.

A few minutes later, Jae-hong is safely tucked into Ji-wook’s bed with him, which is just awww. Ji-wook asks Jae-hong what made him come upstairs, and Jae-hong answers that he had a nightmare.

Jae-hong asks Ji-wook if it will be his fault if he doesn’t testify and they don’t catch the killer. That triggers a sudden flash of memory in Ji-wook’s mind, of District Attorney Jang urging him, “You need to testify for us to find the culprit. If he’s not caught, it’s all your responsibility.”

Remembering this, Ji-wook tells Jae-hong that he doesn’t have to testify if he doesn’t want to. He says that even if Jae-hong doesn’t say a word, nothing that happens will be his fault.

The next day, Bong-hee calls Detective Park as she’s on her way to pick up Jae-hong from school. She tells him that Jae-hong can’t remember anything, but that she’ll try talking to him again. When Jae-hong isn’t at the school gate as promised, Bong-hee asks some students, but they don’t know him.

We see Jae-hong running down a nearby street, looking terrified as he glances back at something behind him. He dodges through the narrow alleys, then rounds a sharp corner and runs smack into someone. It’s Detective Park’s partner, and he’s wearing blue sneakers…

He asks Jae-hong if someone is chasing him, but Jae-hong doesn’t get a chance to answer before Bong-hee finds them. Worried, she runs over to check that Jae-hong is okay before noticing the cop.

She tells him that Jae-hong doesn’t remember anything, and the cop leans down to say that Jae-hong doesn’t have to testify. Jae-hong answers that he can’t testify because he doesn’t remember, looking like he wants to hide behind Bong-hee.

Bong-hee starts to take Jae-hong back to the house, but when they near the school gates again, they see that Ji-wook is already there waiting for him. Awww, the way Jae-hong smiles to see his new friend is adorable. Ji-wook and Bong-hee stare at each other for just a beat too long, which the precocious little guy picks up on right away.

In the car, Jae-hong has a grand time teasing Ji-wook about Bong-hee, and the more Ji-wook tells him not to laugh, the harder he giggles. Heh, Ji-wook looks genuinely upset that the silly kid can see right through him.

Jae-hong sleeps in Ji-wook’s bed again that night, and again he has a nightmare that wakes him up. Ji-wook pulls the little boy into his lap and tells him it’s okay, as Jae-hong utters a sad little, “It hurts.”

Jae-hong asks Ji-wook what happens if the culprit comes to kill him, and Ji-wook says that that will never happen. But Jae-hong shakes his head and says that he doesn’t know if he should testify. Ji-wook promises that whatever he decides, he’ll be there to make sure Jae-hong is safe. But he also tells Jae-hong kindly that if he doesn’t find some way to solve his problem, that the nightmares may never go away.

In the morning, Jae-hong finds Ji-wook and tells him confidently, “I want to testify.” They go the police station and find Detective Park, who’s pleased that Jae-hong decided to give a statement. With Ji-wook there to support him, Jae-hong points to the cop that he saw at his school and says, “It’s that ajusshi.”

Everyone in the station turns to stare at the cop, who’s confused as to why he’s being accused. Jae-hong hums a short tune — the ringtone he heard when the killer’s phone rang. Right on cue, the cop’s phone rings, and it’s the exact same ringtone.

The cop plasters on a nervous smile and tells Jae-hong to stop joking around. But Jae-hong looks at his shoes next, the same blue sneakers he saw on the killer, and points out the small drop of blood on the right shoe. The killer cop is arrested, and Ji-wook tells Jae-hong proudly that he did well.

Another sudden flash of memory hits Ji-wook, this time of his younger self telling District Attorney Jang tearfully that he doesn’t remember who the killer is. The memory clashes with his existing memory of pointing to a picture of Bong-hee’s father and saying that he was the killer. Shaken, Ji-wook wonders which one is the real memory.

He jumps up, leaving Jae-hong with Chief Bang as he says that something urgent has come up. He only gets a few steps before the new memory links up with the one of District Attorney Jang telling him that the man in the picture is the man who killed his parents.

Bong-hee decides to check on Hyun-soo, who is still in a coma. She turns away from his hospital bed to answer a call from Chief Bang, telling him that Hyun-soo’s doctor still reports no improvement. She hangs up and turns back around — to find Hyun-soo standing a few feet away, staring at her.

Epilogue.

While Ji-wook visits Bong-hee in her hospital room, Eun-hyuk stays behind to chat with Ji-hae. Ji-hae says that Bong-hee will be fine but suggests that they can visit too, starting to head in that direction. Eun-hyuk grabs her wrist to stop her and says, “We should stay here.” He wanders off to answer a call from Yoo-jung, while Ji-hae stays behind, swooning at Eun-hyuk’s use of the word “we.”

COMMENTS

And then Hyun-soo asks Bong-hee, “Where am I and who are you?” Right, Show? For some reason I’m very invested in the idea of Hyun-soo waking up with amnesia, or at least the inability to remember his killing spree of the last few years. I think that it would be a fantastic opportunity to further explore the moral dilemmas of guilt and innocence that the show has consistently brought up, and just personally, I would love to see what kind of person he was before tragedy twisted him into a homicidal avenger. I can see how he may have been sweet and sensitive, and that his fury was driven by his emotional trauma. But no matter how it plays out, I’m thrilled that Hyun-soo is back.

It gives me hope to see Bong-hee admitting to herself that she misses Ji-wook, though she’s never been one to deny her own feelings. Hopefully it’s a good sign that she can’t stay away for long. Now that we know her reasoning for the breakup, I do believe that she’s being a noble idiot, because the definition of a noble idiot is when one half of a couple decides to break up for the good of the other without taking into account what the other person actually wants. It’s true that Ji-wook was struggling to reconcile his belief that her father killed his parents with his need to be with Bong-hee, and that he was stupid not to tell her what he was going through so that they could tackle the problem together. That was very painful for Bong-hee, but ultimately her reason for leaving was because she decided that being with her would be too painful for him. But that’s Ji-wook’s decision to make, and he had decided that loving her was worth it. So even though a separation to work things through may be a good idea, and even though she may have been entirely justified in making the decision to break up, it was still very nobly idiotic of Bong-hee to decide without letting Ji-wook have any input.

I really think that Ji-wook showed a lot of character growth in his response to Bong-hee’s breaking up with him. When he walked in on Yoo-jung and Eu-hyuk years ago, he never said a word, and never fought for his relationship or his friendship. He just let go and walked away. Even when Bong-hee pushed him away in the past, he passively let it happen, which was respectful of her wishes but also a bit of a cop-out because he didn’t have to accept any responsibility for losing her. But this time he stood his ground and fought for what he wanted, trying his hardest to convince her to stay and work things out. That’s a difficult thing for Ji-wook to do because it means laying out all his feelings and risking being hurt again, which is something he’s avoided for years. I don’t think he’s finished fighting either, based on the way he refused to let her break her contract.

The adorable Jae-hong did a lot to ease the continued lack of Hyun-soo in this episode, and I found his story here very compelling. I just loved watching Ji-wook identifying with the little guy, since they both witnessed a murder at a young age, and both suffer from nightmares. I just melted to see Ji-wook open up to someone so small and vulnerable, finding a way to help the little boy feel safe enough to tell the truth and hopefully avoid the lifetime of pain Ji-wook has suffered. I think that seeing Jae-hong being so brave made Ji-wook subconsciously desire to recall his own true memories and tell the truth, which is why he’s suddenly remembering things he’d repressed.

I think it’s pretty obvious now that District Attorney Jang somehow orchestrated the deaths of Ji-wook’s parents, and that he brainwashed Ji-wook into thinking that he saw Bong-hee’s father start the fire. But Ji-wook’s fake memories are definitely breaking down, and he’s remembering the coaching and starting to suspect that his memories aren’t reliable. I’m really eager to find out what actually happened, and why District Attorney Jang killed Ji-wook’s parents and framed an innocent man, but at the same time I appreciate that the writer does a great job of not telegraphing the answers to the mysteries before it’s time for us to know them. I really enjoy this writer’s style of storytelling and ability to surprise the audience, as well as the way that all of the characters are given layers until we even sympathize and care about the villains. Between this and the mystery of why Hyun-soo became a murderer, we have enough pieces of the puzzles to make educated guesses, but not enough that the eventual reveals will be boring confirmations of what we figured out several episodes ago. I love being able to look forward to being surprised, even this late in the show.

Thanks for the recap! I felt like this episode definitely brought back some of the funny and picked up the pace a little. I actually found myself more invested in the case of the week - with a plot twist that actually made me sit up in my chair and go "OH CRAP."

-Upon further reflection, I'm actually not sure who's side I'm on in this fight between BH and JW. They both have good points, and they both have flaws in their logic. It's this sort of layered conflict that I really love in stories, where both sides have merit so there's no clear-cut solution, and it actually makes all the angst *slightly* easier to bear.
-Okay, I laughed out loud when BH showed up at JH's house. Tbh, I wouldn't mind if they became roommates and grudging besties.
-The scene where BH wakes up in the hospital to JW was so gorgeous - the lighting, music, tone etc.
-Omg when the little kid appeared to call BH "Mom" - I rewatched that part approximately ten times just to see everyone's reactions again. My sister had to ask if I was okay, I was cackling so hard.
-JW with kids is something I didn't know I needed until now. He's so gruff and awkward and I love it.
-I saw HS waking up a mile away, but I still jumped when BH turned around and he was right there. Why why why do we have to wait a week when things are just picking up? I need to know if he has amnesia or not! Because I don't think normal HS wouldn't act so outwardly creepy around BH in such a public place...

Grudging Besties! I'd like that! :) At least they are interested with diff men now. JH-EH and BH-JW can double date! After the noble idiocy bout that is. Though with how BH is acting, I doubt it'll last long...

I thought HS was just going to open his eyes and stare at BH creepily from his bed. That would have been creepy enough, but he had to get up and sneak up behind BH. I mean how did he take off his ventilator, and his IV without BH noticing? Was he awake the entire time she was there?

I knew that HS was going to show up behind BH--but I thought he was going to be directly behind her. Why? Because dramas. So many shows have done this before, logic be damned about the ventilator etc.

Definitely such a lovely scene! Everything about it pulled me in. And it pretty much showed me that no amount of angst can take away this couple's sweetness. They really know how to make my heart ache.

That scene was really great. It had an etherial look to it, especially given that strong light that looked like the sun. lol. I actually liked how that scene played out with both characters in the kitchen and then BH in the car ride home. Ji-wook didn't force anything or make it too awkward, which I liked.

Haha, it would be funny if it was just fake. I could see Hyun-soo pulling it off. But for some reason I want it to be real. Lol, though, I'm beginning to forget that he technically hasn't gotten it yet.

Yeah I want it to be real too & slowly unveil his past in the procesd, but I'm just scared they might make it a fake one which might just increase the creepy/scary level of HS.

I wonder that too. I remember him from Rebel too and thought it was funny that him and Hong Gil-dong went from enemies there to brothers in Circle.

His acting here is pretty good, and he's a cute kid. It would be interesting to see how he turns out if he sticks with acting. Nam Ji-hyun is only 21, but she is a really talented actress. She's been acting since she was a kid, so the experience really shows.

DA Jung has no legal or moral ethics. Don't forget that DA Jung planted fake evidence in order to convict BH of murdering his son, because he was convinced it was her and the case needed evidence. And he also manipulated Ji Wook when he was a kid. And he is more interested in maintaining an image of the DA office to the public, that they can close cases and find the criminal even if it's the wrong person, rather than pursuing the truth, for example with Yoo Jung's case.

Hyun-Soo's awakening is a huge conflict for me. On one hand I wished to protect our beloved attorneys from the killer and on the other his presence (with Bong Hee alone in his hospital room) heightens the tension so much that I can't wait to see what happens next episode!

What happened with Ji Wook was an instance of confessions that incriminatd Bong Hee's father by placing the victim under psychological duress. That's illegal. I wonder how the court agreed on accepting his testimony. There has to be additional evidence and we all know our DA is fond of fabricating evidence. Bottom line, children don't make valid eye-winess for reasons. Ji Wook can't blame himself for this and neither can Bong Hee. And I am still shopping Ji Hae with Eun Hyuk. I know it'll sink but I find her misunderstandings his gestures and amplified internal response to them adorable.

I officially began shipping Ji-hae and Eun-hyuk against my better judgement as well. I now hope he genuinely gets over Yoo-jung so that these two can have a chance, hehehe. I can't help it, they're so funny and with Ji-hae now (begrudgingly) helping Bong-hee, I'm pretty open to rooting for the girl now.

If Hyun Soo is really going to have amnesia, the plot better be REAL GOOD. I really hate amnesia plotline, because, in reality, that rarely happen! I work in medical field, and for the last 5 years that I'd been working, the probability of someone being amnesiac after an accident was 0. Yes. No case so far. They might have retrograde amnesia (the events leading to the accident), but they won't forget their entire life!
I really love SP, to the point of rewatching every episode twice, at times even more that that, so I really, really praying that the plot with Hyun Soo will be a satisfying one, and realistic. Don't fool the viewers.
As for Bong Hee and Ji Wook, they better end up together or else SP will be one of those dramas with endings that I hated. And honestly, the ending is all that matter. I might be head over heels with this but if the ending is mehh.. i will feel so cheated. I trust you SP!

Totally agree with you! I also love this drama so far, and I'm a sucker for happy endings. Never watched other dramas by this writer before, but by how the drama progresses so far, I think the writer-nim is also a sucker for happy endings and will give us one.

I definitely expect a happy ending from this! Although, I feel like after the Chief Bang scare/Hyun-soo coma, I'd stopped fearing for people's lives. I'm suddenly beginning to wonder whether I'm unwise doing that, as it looks like things are about to escalate! Is it too much to hope that we don't suffer any losses at all?

I get where you're coming from. Personally? I hate amnesia as a plot device (especially when it's used to cause an OTP separation), but love it as a premise (whether it's realistic or not, heh). Bad Family is my ultimate example of this.

This drama is an interesting case, because it's so late into the show and yet this was included in the premise. I know amnesia is unlikely, but this is a case where I'd fascinated to see what it would allow us to explore within Hyun-soo's psyche. Pretty much everything Lollypip mentioned, I'm curious about. So if the amnesia is used to uncover his character's motivations or past experiences, I'd actually be really interested to see it. Haha, pretty much, as long as one the leads doesn't have amnesia, I'm game.

That said, I'd also think it would be cool if that were only very temporary and soon it will just be an act he's putting on. I want to get back to that game of cat and mouse eventually!

I think JW was telling the little guy in a super-awkward way how his life has gone with his nightmares, etc. In his own way, I guess he's trying to help and treat him like an adult by letting him know probably too much? Better than how he treats BH on the truths front... Oh well. Baby steps, right?

That kid! So adorable, and he brings out Daddy-Ji-wook! Ehehehe... I also melted, LollyPip, Ji Chang-wook looks so good with kids.

My favorite part is when Chief Bang ruffles the kid's hair and he's annoyed and swats his hand away, but seconds later Ji-wook does the same and that cute kid just lets him. Poor Chief Bang, but it's hilarious.

Also when Eun-hyuk becomes victim to Bong-hee in the car. LoL, their comedic expression, all of cast's, is just gold!

Call me crazy but I love that they broke up cause those things about professionalism and holding what she has in higher regard have been waiting to be said since the beginning of Drama age. Actualy all characters šokeeritud golf in this ep. Except CEO Byun - I don t know how Ji Wook turned out so normal growing up with this guy. I must be crazy too. I didn't completely get down with her ultimate reason for cutting things off so quickly, which did involve a bit of her wanting to do what was best for him.

But still, that line, "I don't think my father is what you think he is, but I can't even make that claim." It kind of cuts through everything and makes me understand why it's important that they not be together during this time when he has to force himself to be with her DESPITE her father being a criminal. She definitely doesn't want Ji-wook to have to be with her with that belief, but I honestly think she also owned up to the fact that SHE couldn't handle him like that, because she's believed in her father's innocence her whole life and he's pretty much the worst possible reminder that the world doesn't think that way. I guess I must not completely mind when a break-up is for the other person, as long as there are equal reasons to do it for yourself.

Also, Bong-hee + Ji-hae x Li'l Potter + Ji-wook = gold!!!! This show really knows just the right medicine to prescribe for its angst. I'm impressed.

I think they should have emphasized the break up being for her more. Because the way I see it, it isn't, she's breaking up for Ji-Wook's sake or him not having to suffer, not for herself. Besides, JiWook said he would think about not seeing her father as a murderer and he is following up on that. I wish they'd talked about it more, as I'm sure JiWook would be able to understand the point of view where her father isn't a criminal.

I do agree that they could have emphasized that even more. But I just don't think her wanting to break up because she has a hard time dealing with him suffering over their past necessarily means she's doing all of that for his sake. She's still ultimately citing her own feelings as the deciding factor.

I guess I'm trying to pinpoint that...she isn't presuming to choose what's best for him without letting him know why. She's choosing what she thinks is best for herself and, yes, I'd perhaps extend it to "what's best for both of them" because she believes the situation is too much for them to overcome. But she has a right to believe that, just as he has a right to think the opposite. I think by trying to hide the situation and preserve the relationship, Ji-wook was also trying to make the same kind of judgement call as her. We just think of it more favorably because it involved staying together.

That said, I do actually agree with you on a lot of points. I think the discussion of whether or not BH is a noble idiot kind of hinders us from discussing what the real issue is. That is, how flawed she was in giving up on the relationship after they were finally honest with each other. Because there is no doubt that there was an element of unfairness in her approach to ending things, especially when he was willing to do what it took to try and move past their issues.

Let me count how many problems situation we have in this drama:
1. Ji Wook's past trauma with his parents died in fire accident and the thought that Bong Hee's father might be the arsonist, but turns out he finally felt something's wrong with his memory.
2. We still dont know what really happened in the fire. Bong Hee believed that her dad was falsely accused but seeing Ji Wook's hurting made her come to a decision to break up with him. I wonder what will happen if she knew that her father was really falsely accused.
3. Jung Hyun Soo finally wake up and he finds himself alone with Bong Hee. If turns out he's having amnesia, it's causing another problem. But if he's not, I'm afraid imagining what will happen to Bong Hee.
4. I'm still curious about Bong Hee's second father. She said that she has two fathers, but until know we still dont know who's the second. Bong Hee's mother once said about his current husband, but we still havent see his face. Maybe it's somehow related to the case. Or maybe not.
5. The biggest problem I have that I'll have to wait until next week for more episodes, and I dont think I can handle that

I forgot the episode, but there was the time when Bong Hee's mom worked in her first day at the Pizza store? When she met her boss (Ji Wook's mom) and told the story about her husband doesnt work and just lying in the bed. That's the only slightly information I knew about him

YES on your last paragraph, @lollypip! This week's episode had been on the slower side and I'm just worried for the show because it only has two weeks! But SP's writer has deftly handled all the reveals and shocked me so many times even this late in the game. HALLELUJAH! Hyun Soo's awake. His palpable electric presence was severely missed and I didn't realize how much I relished seeing him on the screen until he was out for this week.

I don't want this drama to end because it's the crack drama I've been waiting for for so long and yet I also want to JUST KNOW EVERYTHING. It's so amazing how we still don't know A LOT when most dramas us audience are just waiting for the characters to catch up on all the reveals/information we already know. WRITER-NIM IS SURELY DAEBAK

I dont get it. If both Bong Hee's father and Ji Wook's father died in the fire, then when actually did Bong Hee's father talk to the DA about the fire? You know, in the previous episode, when he tried to persuade the DA that he wasnt the culprit? Did it happen before or after the fire?

I also thought that at first, so I rewatched the previous episode. It happened before the fire accident. I think we're mistaken the case that they were talking about as the arson case. what Bong Hee's father were trying to persuade the DA was about another case before the arson case, or maybe both happened at the same day. In this episode, when Ji Wook talked to the DA, he said "at the time, the suspect, Eun Man Soo, was only involved in a small assault case", so I think it's the case that Bong Hee's father were talking to the DA.

It was an assault case. BH's dad was a taxi driver and he was falsely accused in a crime done by another taxi driver. The DA was the prosecutor of that case and he didn't believe in BH's dad.
My guess is that, BH's dad went to JW's dad for help or favor since he is known to be a good prosecutor. He came to his place and its already on fire, he came there to save them but he died in the process. DA was assigned to investigate the case and since he can't find a lead, he fabricated everything, he made BH's dad as the arsonist, uses JW as a witness (altering his memories), so the case was closed and so is the assault case. He was promoted to become a DA afterwards and until now he is in denial that his incomptency leds to death of many innocent people.

Yes and we have several examples of the DA in the show putting pressure on prosecutors to get a result rather than finds out what really happened or undo a wrong conviction. He said something to Ji-wook in one of the early episodes about Ji-wook being just like his father. Presumably being unwilling to bend the truth.

I agree that the writer is very good at keeping us guessing. I can figure out a little bit, but never the entire thing, which is great. This show does a wonderful job of using humor, romance, and thrills together now. The first couple episodes had me worried about shifts in tone, but somewhere along the line they found a perfect balance.

Thanks LP for the fast recap. I was confuse on how the past case of JW parents became a murder. Now I get it. Well, JW & BH better reopen the case and clear the dad's name. And that chief prosecutor scared the shit out of me with his eyes. He has that aura which makes it believable that young JW sucked all that lies he fed into his mind. Law people somehow have those ability to mind twist.
I think the meeting scene is for two different days coz the first day CEO Byun just asked of they broke up then, then cue the next meeting with JW cutest peach shirt as he was asked if he won't get back together with BH. I think CEO Byun is now our shipper. Obviously he approves our lovebirds.
JW and the little peanut r just so cute together! I love it when the guy thinks that he's not good with kids but ended up being a great dad. I read in Comment asking JW & BH to adopt him already. They'll make a cute family!!!! But then, with a kid in the house, will there be kissy kissy scene? Hahahhaa. That's the good part though

* The off-kilter camera work after Ji-wook leaves the DA office. Really liked that added touch.
* Ji-wook's initial attitude towards our adorable client. This little cutie pie was the kid version of Nam Joo-hyuk in WLFKBJ, right? I've seen him in other recent dramas, too. I liked his story here and how Ji-wook warmed up to him. I am Ji-wook when it comes to kids, just not so dramatic about it, ha.

Holy cow, the look on HS's face after he woke up! O.o I do really enjoy how this writer still has a few mysteries hanging on out there to solve this late in the series. Usually, I see the shows wrap most things up by now and then ride the romance into oblivion. This is much better.

While the pace of the last episodes was a little slower, I tend to take a philosophical approach to this: life is like this as well. If it was always go, go, go, you would be so worn out that you couldn't accomplish much. You need to slow down so you can ramp back up. I'm gearing up for the big build up towards the end now!

HS's face when he woke up. I actually yelled/announced to my dogs, cats, and possibly to my horses outside that Piranha Hyun-soo is baaaaack! I think I was looking forward to him coming back so badly, that when I saw the stabbing cop at first, I wanted to know when Hyun-soo woke up and how he left the hospital... And I agree on your philosophy, even if it does make for nodding-off TV at times.

Somehow I don't think the Head Prosecutor killed Ji-Wook's parents, which, actually doesn't make him better man.
His ethics and moral system is so screwed up I don't even see him as a human being... he's worse than a murderer, honestly... to fuck up not one person's but also that person't family's and the victim's family's life like that... just because he feels that the person is the criminal, just because he needs somebody to be the criminal... that's cruel beyond imagination, and it's worse that he keeps telling himself that he's right, and acts like a righteous person! He seriously gives me the creeps!

I also don't think the DA is behind the fire. The fire might had been an accident after all and that no one actually start the fire out of revenge. The DA is an incompetent prosecutor. He probably want to be promoted fast so he wants to close many case as soon as possible. He is hallucinating that closing the case would mean he brought justice, he doesn't care about finding out the truth of the case he handles and as long as someone suffers for the crime, it doesn't matter if they are innocent or not. He is the biggest monster and much more scarier than HS.

hyunsoo ya u scared me soooo much. i literally went "mommmm" at the last scene.

i must be in the minority here, but the kiss didnt feel right. she shouldn't be doing that in fever, hygiene is important.

if Eun man soo was found dead at the scene, then how can he be prosecuted?? da jang said he was found dead at the scene.. did i not get something??

i so wish, jihae ends up with eunhyuk, she is fire to his ice. and cookies to her for actually giving bonghee a piece of her mind.

bonghee needs to grow up a lot, she must feel guilt, but after knowing jiwook past, she needs to prioritize her needs. how can che leave a job and still want to be independent?? isn't that reckless to just come and go in job, when you are aware of consequences of criminal records, guilty or not.

That fever scene reminds me of Healer. Both Bong-hee and Jung-hoo (JCW's character) are delirious with fever, and both shows their true desire, which is to keep their respective partner close when they think they're dreaming. Jung-hoo also initially rejects Young-shin after he's getting better.

It's one of my favorite scenes from the drama, so I was half hoping it'd be a tribute (and JCW would be the one who embrace BH when she said she's cold.)

And yeah, also think Ji-hae's funny. I think she and EH can be a hilarious couple. She's still pretty annoying sometimes, but other than her cheating, I guess her heart is still at the right place.

Aw, yeah. I had just the same thoughts as you with the fever kiss.

Obviously Bong-hee regretted the kiss just as much after (less because of hygiene, and more because of the shamelessness of her actions, lol), but it was supposed to be an emotional, against-all-reason sort of moment. I definitely needed this genuine, dream-like moment amidst their separation.

He was prosecuted before that for something else entirely, a small assault case, not the fire. He had begged the prosecutors not to go through with it but they did anyway. Then they said he was the arsonist because he wanted to kill the prosecutor out of revenge, and died by accident in the meantime in the fire.

I love how Bong Hee is in conflict with her feelings, what the heart feels is so powerful than what the mind thinks.

Ji Hae is falling hard for Eun Hyuk that i almost feel sorry for her.

While he's part of the wild card lawyer group (we only know that they're going to buck societal norms and do something weird), I am really curious as to how this show deals with the fall-out once Eun-hyuk realizes what he's "done".

I can understand why Bong hee broke up with him and I think it was a bit more complicated than noble idiocy. In that tradition, there is a lack of comunication and at least one party not understanding why. In this case, they both know the issue and why it is painful for each other.
She is very conscious of his trauma; his nightmares and insomnia. He has been suffering. She is also aware that she has been the inciting factor in another significant lost of his- his career and reputation as a prosecutor. It is a huge burden to ask someone you care about to carry everyday for your sake.
She is out spoken in her love for her father and her advocation of the rights of unjustly accused. She knows her "bleeding heart" annoys him as he has a more cynical, hardline viewpoint.
They both would have to shut down parts of themselves so as to not cause pain to the other. It does seem daunting at this point. Fortunately in dramaland, things have a way of working out so we know there is hope for our couple.

Yep.

This is a romantic comedy, which means that structurally, it must include a break up. The reasons are pretty layered, as someone else said, and there are a lot of complicated emotions on both sides. It's pretty solid in terms of setting up a reason for them to be apart, and feels way more authentic than most of the true "noble idiocy" cliches. As a crisis it doesn't rely heavily on mis- (or non-) communication, rather there are some fundamental differences that are not easily resolved, as well as some missteps that have caused pain. While there is an element of the "noble" aspect, at the same time BH has made it pretty clear that his pain is difficult for her ("I hate this"); and there's pretty much no idiocy. It's not idiotic to decide that you can't, or don't want to, hold onto a painful relationship, even if there's a possibility that if you did it could all work out. That's just a choice that sometimes people make.

Did anyone else catch the funny moment after Jae-hong's second nightmare when Ji-wook pulls Jae-hong onto his lap and is awkwardly (and roughly) patting Jae-hong's back and head. Jae-hong says "that hurts" and Ji-wook nods, stops, and puts Jae-hong back on the bed? I lol'd - poor Ji-wook trying to console our little cutie pie but just not getting it quite right. Too funny... ???

He's so awkward and here it's highlighted, but it's believable. I'm not a kid person (no children of my own by choice, and not good with youngsters of any species), and I could identify with Ji-wook all too well here. How JW behaved towards Jae-hong at the beginning and how he wound up by the end of the episode was sweet to watch. Love it!

What do you think about the reveal that Yoo-jung and Eu-hyuk had not actually gone all the way? They both acknowledge that they had already crossed the betrayal line anyway, so why reveal this bit at this point in the story? It can't be merely to soften their betrayal of Ji-wook as he has firmly moved on. Was it a hint about not accepting a situation at face value, but questioning it? As it has been the case in every crime scenario in the drama, people's intial assumptions have not been the whole truth.

I took it as a wayto possibly make aYJ/EH reconciliation more palatable and acceptable. I still would like an explanation as to the lack of clothing/getting dressed. I agree that it has to do with the themes of innocence and guilt; but I think that this particular scenario also brings in themes of punishment and forgiveness.

Because Yoo-jung and Eu-hyuk are both (I would argue) basically decent people who made some poor choices that hurt their friend, their story highlights the moral themes and questions of the show with a much more relatable sort of degree of wrongness than serial murder, which adds complexity to the moral questions.

So, to backtrack for a moment, the writer (I would also argue) has always presented Ji Wook as being flawed, particularly in terms of being overly judgemental. He's a decent person, but he is too quick to assume guilt and not willing enough to acknowledge other evidence once he has decided (remember at the beginning that he voted worst prosecutor, or whatever? Even though he had a high conviction rate, no one liked him because he was rigid and unsympathetic, even to victims that were served by his prosecuting).

So the wrongness in the YJ-EH situation actually also includes JW (which is the innocence/guilt theme), and learning that they didn't actually do anything makes that more explicit. We can see that JW's ongoing rejection of his friends is a punishment that he inflicts on them continuously, albeit a much less harmful one than the serial killer's. Knowing that his friends didn't do what he thought they did brings this punishment into question, making it more parallel to the serial killer line (where the exjudicial executions are without a question completely wrong).

Therefore, the whole YJ-EH-JW situation offers a moral counterpoint to the serial killing story line, in which we consider the initial act of betrayal, and the subsequent efforts by YJ and EH to atone, and JW's current unwillingness to forgive (or willingness to punish).

The questions that are brought up by the serial killer, but echoed by JW's ongoing rejection of his friends are: what kind of punishments should we dole out to those who hurt and/or betray us? How and when does punishing others hurt ourselves? What is the value of compassion and forgiveness?

Anyway, that's my take on why (and why now) we find out that they didn't do anything that night.

I was a little disappointed in this week. The writing is so good generally that the my dad killed your dad arc seems really unnecessary. The noble idiocy is also really frustrating and cliche. I'm sure there is another way to show Prosecutor Jang's as having done badly in the past. However, the reveal last episode about the cheaters, and the little boy this week really helped make it interesting. Hyun-soo coming back is also really great. His relationship with the lawyers is the most fascinating tension!

I love the women of this show and all the dynamics that are at play here. I love how all these different frienenemies scenarios are developing and unfolding. Though, I wish there was more interaction between Bong Hee and Yoo Jung. Yoo Jung is clearly going to be a fixture in the main couple's lives, so that drama should play out some how. Also, I wish that the Moms weren't so underutilized. I want them to add to some comedic relief. I loved their banter before. I loved how production used those actresses in a unique way and I want that back.

Next, I think production is getting burned by this new format. It's not as simple as taking an hour show and dividing it in half. Each episode has to standalone to some degree. So that jump from the first half to the latter has been a dozy in a lot of cases. There have been points where the first half ends at one place and the second half begins somewhere totally different. And there's little to no explanation why. It's a bit jarring.

Finally, I think the divided episodes, coupled with live filming, is giving production more time than they're used to traditionally. So, that's why certain story lines are dragging a bit. Yes, people who break up shouldn't just jump back together but it feels more like a plot device. And, yes, a person in a coma won't spring back up but to have a central character missing for 4 episodes seems a bit much. To production's credit, the additional time allowed them to flesh out some other plot points that, under normal circumstances, might have been rushed through.

I really love the Moms and actually wish there was more of the scenes like the one in this episode. I hope they don't find out about the break-up anytime soon and become great, begrudging friends in the mean-time. Ever since finding out about JW's mom taking her best friend's place, I've felt like she deserved another great friend in Bong-hee's mom.

Just think of the speech they had at the beginning of the episode.
He says he does not care who her father was, but she said it's important to her. Why stay with someone who thinks your father is a murderer, besides, why staying with him, if it will only cause pain. He could barely look at her, why does she have to endure this? Because he loves her and she loves him? Sometimes love does not overcome everything, sometimes we have to step back to try to put our thoughts and emotions in order. She's right to finish, their relationship can not survive right now if they stay together. He can not look at her, give affection and support, at this stage of the relationship. Just because he wants to overcome this fact does not mean he will succeed, there will always be that elephant among them. So yes, this break up is necessary for them to rise.

Now Ji-Wook with the child was the cutest thing ever... I get a smile just thinking ... Please! I need to have more scenes them.

The reason Bong-Hee decides to look for Na Ji-Hae's house is wonderful. Because if she went looking for a friend or her mother would have to explain the reason for the end of the relationship and feel a burden, but with her, she could simply stay in the corner and without problems. Besides what gives us great moments of laughter.

But she isn't even sure he is looking at her father as a murderer, clearly he's doing research to see if that is the case. She made the decision to break up their relationship for his sake, but that is not her decision to make. If she feels she doesn't love him enough to endure, that is one thing, but she decided to break up so HE wouldn't have to suffer, which isn't her choice to make.

Struggles in a relationship are normal, and breaking up over such a thing without even trying is just looking for the easy way out. I feel like Bong-Hee was written like someone who is more hardworking and persistent, but her constant urge to run away when it gets hard just doesn't sit well with me, for a large part because it's so inconsistent with her upbeat, strong character.

I believe the break-up was necessary only to add angst into the plotline, but it just doesn't make sense from a character's perspective.

That said, I love that she ended up at Ji-Hae's place. I need more frenemy scenes between the two of them.

At the beginning of the episode he tells her that he did not care what her father did. And she replies that she cared.
It was not the first time he had hidden his things, of course she had some hidden things too. But she felt that he was distant and sad, and then she discovers the reason, if he did not tell and did not feel comfortable from the beginning, do you sincerely believe that in the future they will be well with this fact? They will not be because they are not yet comfortable to talk about it. They are still hurt by this past history and that's why they need to break up. They need to put their thoughts in order first and detachment is truly one of the best solutions to that.

She did not break up just because she would make him sad, but also of her own emotions. Her feelings for him and what she has already made him lose.

I think it fits into Bong-hee's character because yes, she's strong and persistent when the situation only involves her, but when someone else is involved, her very strong sense of empathy/sympathy consistently gets in the way of her judgment and she is more likely to make rash decisions. She thinks she's showing sympathy to Ji-wook in his struggle to overcome his perception of her father, but she assumes wrongly that he can't handle the struggle and so makes the emotional decision to separate.

I do believe that her attempt to resign was in the catagory of running away. She wanted to quit simply because it was too painful to see him every day.
I don't think she "constantly runs away". She stuck out years of group shunning and gossip at school post-aquittal. She endured prison and business failure. That took a lot of character strength.
He is her weak point though. She thinks so highly of him, both personally and professionally, that his opinion of her matters so much. That's why his first two rejections of her were so painful.

He was wrong in keeping the truth from her, but he is willing to be upfront with her now and continue to dig for the truth about their parents together. However, she just wants to run away. If she was doing her own investigating like he is during their break-up then I would understand, but she's just moping around.

I totally agree with you Thais, with everything you said. Those are exactly my thoughts. It must be proven first without benefit of a doubt that Bong Hee's dad did not murder Ji-Wook parents before they can really be happy with each other. Even if Ji- Wook is ready to set aside the fact that Bong Hee's dad might have murdered his parents, Bong Hee will always feel that she's at a disadvantage and she might feel that she has to over compensate in return for his magnanimity. Bong Hee was deeply hurt by Ji-Wook's initial reaction. So I don't think it's just noble idiocy but a normal reaction of someone who believes in her dad and got hurt by his attitude at first.

The only thing I care about in life is Ji-wook's and Jae-hong's friendship. I just....it's just.....I can't...my feels...they're the actual cutest. I was legit in tears over the adorable, I couldn't handle it.
I'm glad that the episodes where Hyun-soo have been gone haven't really slowed or dragged on, at least for me. I'm ridiculously happy that he's back though, which is never something I thought I'd ever say. I'd be lying if I said I didn't completely forget he was part of the story at times hehe....

Oh my gosh little Jae-hong is SO ADORABLE. He is the cutest thing ever, he is actually cuter than Ji Chang-wook doing aegyo and that is like, unbelievable. I loved seeing the father-son like dynamic.

I did miss Dong-ha's presence these eps while the main couple wallowed in angst and the evil DA's past misdeeds kept screwing things up for them.

I think love is not the only thing that can hold a relationship for eternity. Sometimes what is happening around you really leaves a great impact. Some people are telling they need to talk it out and solve it. I mean what do they need to talk about? That okay your father killed my father. But i dont care because i love you. And for bong hee. How can she really stay with a guy who believes that his father was killed by her father. Is love really that powerful to avoid all these and stay with him under the same roof? They needed this space alone. They need to sort it out themselves for eg jiwook now slowly getting back his memeories in bits and pieces. Now based on this newly found memories they can dig into this matter together. I guess i am the only SP-Fan who is liking this angsty situation. It hurts but i like the way both of them love each other and misses each other but again holding back due to certain events.

That kid was so adorable and Ji-wook being the reluctant babysitter was something I never knew I needed but VERY glad I got to see it! Honestly, I expected them to break up. I don't want them to but I do think they do need some time apart to process the situation. I'm just glad that Ji-wook is realizing his memeories can't be trusted and neither can that District Attorney.

Oh my god this show. I wish it's not trolling us. Why did I get the feeling that the epilogue, before I even saw it, would be about Eun Hyuk and Ji Hae???!!!! I somehow had the feeling the director would not waste another moment of Ji hae "misunderstanding" this, now that they were left together in the hospital alone.

She used to be this side character you're just supposed to hate for antagonizing Bong Hee. But I can't help but find her sooo adorable now. She's got a great career, owns a house, very independent - well put together, but get her knees so weak when Eun Hyuk is around. Like, I really really wish this show is not trolling me on how i`m growing fond of Ji Hae. And that I really really wish now that she, too, gets a happy ending........ with Eun Hyuk.

Laughing so hard at the Goblin-parody. Don't do this to me, show!!!!!!! Don't get my hopes up that you're building something better for Ji Hae in the end T____T It will break my heart.

I do wonder whether the cop dude Jae-hong pointed out as the killer is actually the killer, since I thought the whole point of these past few episodes have been that memory is entirely faulty and should not be relied upon as a sole evidence in a murder case.

I also wonder how Ji-wook will come out with the truth. I don't know about true memories resurfacing like that after decades, but it would be totally cool if Ji-wook's basis for rejecting the results of the prosecution years ago are due to the weak justifications for pinning down a man for murder. I would like the show to make a statement about having relied upon eyewitness testimony, let alone that of a 6 year old as sole evidence in a murder case, since that has not only happened before but is still happening around the world (*coughusacough*). I doubt that would happen, but it would still be cool ?

I am really curious to see how the Hyun-soo post-come storyline will be. Wonder if he just forgot about the last couple of years or if he completely forgot who he is and what he did. I think there is a good chance that he is missing his memories of the murder and maybe even the death of his girlfriend/sister/mystery girl. That would help the gang to put the pieces of the puzzle back together to understand why he was on a killing spree.
I like it that JCW decided to try to play a less physical role but I have to admit that in my opinion he is more suited for stronger roles (physically and mentally).

Can I just way that it is so much fun to talk about this show? And thank you to Lollypip for your lightning-fast recapping so that we can comment while everything is fresh in our minds.

1. Is EBH a Noble Idiot? Lollypip's excellent analysis made me waver a little. But on balance, I continue to think that EBH is right - based on the current circumstances, she and NJW cannot be in an honest, healthy and happy relationship. She is being realistic, not idiotic. But just like Lollypip, I am so pleased at NJW's progress. In the past he would have just passively retreated. Now he is fighting to find out the truth about his own past, traumatic as that is, and fighting to keep EBH in his life.

2. I am pretty sure I am in a tiny minority here, but I did find the storyline with the little boy a tiny bit contrived. I also have a lot of fun discussing this show!

1. I do think she is displaying certain Noble Idiot traits, but her honesty about what she's doing sets her apart. His struggle with their shared past is still a big part of her motivation, but it isn't the only factor. And she's being up-front about the fact that, even if he insists none of this matters to him, it does matter to her. I still wish she would be more open to him when he was trying to work through these issues with her, but I also recognize that it happened this way in part because he kept things from her and brooded over them initially. My biggest issue is how quickly she let go of him though, because he was trying very hard to hold on.

2. Haha, you're not in the minority actually, but I also just loved them so much together I didn't care. I wonder if it would have been better if they had worked the boy a tad bit more into episode 31, like having Bong-hee introduced to his conflict before she got sick, I don't know. It all felt like it happened so fast in the second half, but the two boys really sold it for me.

As if I needed any more proof that NJW is a boy at heart! I thought his comment about a kid having nightmares at that age was simultaneously heartbreaking and hilarious, given that kids should be much more prone to nightmares than adults and he's one of the rare few that still has them frequently.

3. I'm so glad he's back too! I'm pretty desperate for next week right now.

Theres also some healthy discussion and contrasting opinions about bh and jw and their actions n decisions in another forum. The writing and the acting makes us get behind them. JW did try to handle it but shutting BH out, for me wasnt right. BH who loves him couldnt bare the knowledge that him seeing her and reminded him of his dad makes him feel guilty over and over again. For me thats a valid reason for her to remove herself from the equation. Added to that is she doesnt wan him to thk her father is that kind of man. She believes in her father but she couldnt claim it. But im very happy reading @lollypip recaps n comment. When JW shuts her out, he wasnt handling it together but making a decision for them on his own. When BH ask for break up, again she too excluded JW and decided for them on her own. So they both were right n wrong. But they r human and this is love. Things for them should be going upwards next week..

Ok, but seriously. What Bong-hee said to Ji-hae about how seeing her living so well makes her feel like she needs to also...not gonna lie, it is totally thoughts like those that keep me going in my darkest days, hahaha. Just thinking of that one sucky person that somehow has it all and realizing I shouldn't let myself lose to them, lol. Rivals, they simultaneously infuriate and yet inspire me. I'm still trying to figure out whether Bong-hee's logic of living together as punishment works for me. Lol, I guess if I had no where else to go. I definitely relate with this girl though and love her to bits even when she lets me down a bit.

That was so creepy HyunSoo standing behind her looking at her like that. Lets see how real or how fake his amnesia is. It will b interesting next week. If this week is sad n angsty. Next week should b thriller and finally the silver lining of absence makes the heart grow fonder. Bonghee and Jiwook will never get over each other. The icecream scene was nice. Bonghee forgot to breathe again when Jiwook came up near to her. I love the lil kid. When he giggle and poke fun at JW was too cute. He not only serves the purpose to jolt JW's memory..he also shows us JW would be a wonderful father some day..
