Seven Day Queen: Episode 10

I could look at our prince looking at Chae-kyung all day. After the hell he gave her at the start of their reunion, I’m so glad that she’s playing hard to get now. While her reasons for distance are legitimate and not for petty revenge, the outcome is still that there’s a karmic reversal in their courtship, which is extremely satisfying for me to watch. Since I already know she loves him, the longer he has to wonder and stew in insecurity as he pursues her, the more entertained I am. Does that make me evil?

EPISODE 10 RECAP

As Yeonsangun looks on from a distance, Chae-kyung tells Yeok that this will be the last time they meet. Yeok refuses and pulls her into a hug, saying that he will count to ten and let go. “Until then, let’s make one promise,” he asks.

Yeok: “I can guess how angry, how sorrowful you were. So until you feel better, you can get angry and hit me all you want. Just don’t say that you won’t see me, because I think I’ll die if I don’t see you—that’s why I returned.”

Yeok insists that they’ve promised, so today she’s just angry with him, and that’s all. She doesn’t respond as she hurries inside the house.

Yeonsangun jumps off his horse and tells Yeok that it’s good that he and Chae-kyung happen to be together. He doesn’t look happy as he leads the way into Chae-kyung’s house. Her parents rush over to the room and gape at the three pairs of shoes lined up outside.

Inside, Yeonsangun says in a brittle tone that Yeok and Chae-kyung seemed like a good match when he saw them together earlier, and all that’s left is for them to marry. Yeok looks pleased while Chae-kyung is shocked, and all Yeonsangun adds as he leaves the room is, “It’s a royal order.”

Yeok chases after his brother to say that he hasn’t gotten Chae-kyung’s permission yet, wondering if there’s a reason why he’s rushing the marriage all of a sudden. Yeonsangun merely says that it’s what Yeok wanted, so he’s helping, and the rest is up to Yeok to seal the deal.

Yeok returns to the room and overhears Chae-kyung’s parents worrying about the prophecy that Chae-kyung would bring calamity to the royal family, and he bursts in angrily to ask if they really believe in such superstition. Minister Shin argues that for Chae-kyung this is a matter of protecting the people she loves and her own fate, but Yeok just turns to her and asks if this is the reason why she’s been pushing him away.

“Is some prophecy more important than me?” he asks, searching her eyes. She looks stricken, and he storms out, upset at the sudden mention of a prophecy.

Yeonsangun returns to the palace and begins to laugh. It scares the eunuchs and the laughter continues as Nok-soo serves him tea, only growing more manic as he reminisces about his encounters with Chae-kyung.

“Did you know—that the petty love that comes from a gaze, or a grazing of hands…” Yeonsangun pounds his chest as he says, “…was in here too?” Nok-soo says there’s nothing about him that she doesn’t know, but that only fuels his rage, and he suddenly turns and grabs her by the throat.

His gaze turns murderous as he pushes her to the floor and asks why she didn’t tell him before he became this way, why she didn’t stop him. Nok-soo struggles to breathe but he just continues to strangle her, asking what she is to him that she can make him so pathetic.

But as he says that, it’s clear he’s speaking to Chae-kyung, not Nok-soo: “I thought of you as family, as a friend! How could you be in the arms of another man? I’m going to kill you. If I can’t keep you by my side, then I will kill you to keep you!”

He squeezes her neck harder, tears spilling from his eyes. Nok-soo gasps and struggles under his grip, and when she calls out to him repeatedly, he finally stills and releases her, badly shaken up by what he just did.

She reaches up to his face to wipe away his tear, and that tiny show of sympathy makes Yeonsangun turn away from her violently. As he wipes at his own tears angrily, Nok-soo dares to bring up Chae-kyung’s marriage again. She says that all that’s left is for Yeok to marry her, and for Yeonsangun to make her his spy: “Then her body may be next to the prince, but she will live as your person, under your royal orders.”

His manic laughter returns, and he spits out bitterly, “I will make yours the most hellish marriage on this earth.”

At Snail Bride headquarters, Myung-hye reports that it was Secretary Im who stole from the other ministers and framed Yeok for the theft, as they suspected. Yeok vows to bring his crimes to light, because he can’t sit here and watch Secretary Im continue to steal from the people any longer.

Yeok casually mentions to the group that his brother approved of his marriage to Chae-kyung, and the boys excitedly ask if he’s proposed to Chae-kyung yet. Myung-hye is a wet blanket, of course, and barks that this is a strategy, not a real marriage. Whatever you have to tell yourself to sleep at night.

She warns Yeok that she’s following his lead, but that he’ll pay with his life for making the wrong choice. He tells her not to worry, because he plans to make Chae-kyung his person no matter what it takes.

Chae-kyung lies awake that night and darts up to ask Nanny what’s most important—the prophecy, or a royal order, or her heart? In her sleepy haze Nanny murmurs, “Heart,” before passing out.

Yeok sits up that night too, going over what Chae-kyung’s father said about the prophecy. He tells Seo-no that his brother tried to kill him because of their father’s will, and now Chae-kyung is pushing him away because of some prophecy.

He wonders what’s gotten into everyone, but Seo-no understands Chae-kyung and says she’s scared. He points out that when they were young, Yeok was afraid of his brother because of what adults told him, and lived as if he saw and heard nothing.

Seo-no reminds him that it was Chae-kyung who awakened him back then, so he advises Yeok to do the same for her now, and show her that there are more important things than other people’s prophecies and superstitions. “If you want to marry her, you must first give her your trust,” he advises.

Yeok looks surprised by his words and suddenly walks over to him, making Seo-no back away. But Yeok grabs him in a bear hug and says affectionately that Seo-no’s all grown up now, and Seo-no laughs and says he’s bigger than Yeok, and Yeok is the only one who still sees him as a kid.

Yeok tells Seo-no that Chae-kyung missed him and wants to see him tomorrow, and Seo-no lights up and runs to his room to start getting ready. Ha, right now?

In the morning, the queen dowager and Minister Shin are called to meet with the king and queen at the same time. Yeonsangun tells them that Yeok wants to marry Chae-kyung, and asks them what they think of the union. To Minister Shin’s shock, the queen dowager approves and says that the moment Yeok returned, their fates were already sealed.

She says that Chae-kyung may be lacking, thinking of her betrayal of Yeok when they were young, but she plans to keep Chae-kyung close and teach her. Yikes, that does not sound like a fun time.

With no other avenue of protest left, Minister Shin bows and asks them to take good care of her. Yeonsangun declares it settled then, and congratulates the queen dowager on Yeok gaining an ally like Minister Shin. She counters that the king is Yeok’s strongest ally, and Yeonsangun says in a barbed tone that Yeok is truly blessed to have so many allies at his side. Minister Shin looks up warily as Yeonsangun and the queen dowager force rigid smiles.

Nok-soo tells Secretary Im that it only benefits him if Chae-kyung marries Yeok and takes his side, further driving a wedge between the two brothers. He tells her that if that really happens, he’ll reward her handsomely.

Yeok and Seo-no skip excitedly to the pavilion where they made their friendship pact with Chae-kyung, and Seo-no wonders nervously if she’ll recognize him. Yeok manhandles him and says no, he’s changed far too much to be recognized.

Yeok reminds him of what they discussed last night, and we flash back to him asking all three boys to push for him with Chae-kyung because this might be his last opportunity to win her over. Seo-no counters that he’s the star of today, hahaha, earning a glare from Yeok.

When Chae-kyung’s palanquin arrives, Seo-no runs out eagerly, and Yeok yanks him back by the collar, calling him petty. HEE. He says they can both be the stars and walks ahead, leaving Seo-no to trail after him arguing that there can only be one star.

They push each other the entire way there, fighting like children. They’re so absorbed in their petty fight that it takes them a while to notice that Chae-kyung hasn’t responded, and they peer inside to find her fast asleep.

Seo-no sends the servants away and Yeok plants himself right in front of her to gaze at her lovingly. He says that “our Chae-kyung” is prettiest when sleeping, and Seo-no takes issue with this not being the first time Yeok has seen her sleep.

Chae-kyung stirs awake and is surprised to see Yeok sitting there. He gives her a cheeky look and asks so very casually, “Did you sleep well?” and she’s so out of sorts that she slams her head into the ceiling trying to get up.

Recognition dawns on her face the minute she sees Seo-no, and he asks eagerly if she remembers him. She smiles and says yes, that he’s that prison guard. Yeok chortles and Seo-no’s face falls, and that’s when Chae-kyung realizes that this is Seo-no. She instantly switches to her old saturi accent and greets him happily, and then asks Yeok why he came along when she only asked for Seo-no. Heh. Hehehehe.

Yeok adopts her accent and argues that they’re inseparable friends, so everywhere Seo-no goes, he goes. Chae-kyung raises her hand like she’s going to smack him and Yeok flinches, making Seo-no snigger.

Chae-kyung asks after Seo-no’s father, and his smile falters. In flashback we see Seo-no’s father leave him in the night as soon as they’d settled into their new home. He’d said that the work he must do was to remain hidden until it was time, and he left with the promise to return someday. Seo-no explains that his father didn’t want to be caught and cause Chae-kyung more trouble, and she feels bad, but Seo-no assures her brightly that he’ll be back soon.

Deputy Commander Park worries that the king actively pushing for Yeok’s marriage only means that he trusts Minister Shin completely, and in turn Minister Shin won’t betray that trust easily. The queen dowager says that there’s only one way—to make sure that Chae-kyung is firmly on their side, because there is no parent who will win over their own child.

But Yeonsangun is already a step ahead, and he asks Minister Shin point-blank whose side he would take if Yeok attempted a coup. Yeonsangun pushes for an answer, and Minister Shin assures him that he is loyal to the king, and that before he is Yeok’s father-in-law, he is the king’s servant first and foremost. He vows to stop any act of treason with his life, and Yeonsangun tells him not to forget what he just said, because Minister Shin is the only person he sincerely trusts in this palace.

In a flashback to Yeonsangun’s youth, he’d been blocked by Deputy Commander Park from approaching his father who was playing with young Yeok and his mother. He watched the happy little family unit enviously, demanding to be allowed to join them. It was Minister Shin who’d approached him then and offered to be his father, mother, or brother if he wanted.

In the present, Yeonsangun leans down to say, “The moment you betray me, I will kill your wife, your children, your relatives. I will kill them all, and Chae-kyung will be the first to die.” Minister Shin quakes with fear and begs for the king’s trust.

The three friends walk to the river, and Yeok silently signals for Seo-no to get lost. Seo-no pointedly ignores him, but then he senses someone watching them and goes to check it out, and Yeok doesn’t waste the chance to stand close to Chae-kyung.

He brings up yesterday, and she tells him that the prophecy isn’t more important to her than him—it’s because he’s so precious to her that the prophecy scares her. His eyes soften as she reminds him that every time they’re together, bad things happen and he ends up in danger, and that he almost died because of her.

He corrects her right away: “No, it’s because of you that I was able to live when I was near death. It’s because someone was waiting for me that I came back alive.” He argues that he survived hell to come to her, and calls it irresponsible of her to push him away just because of some prophecy.

She counters that it’s even more irresponsible to stay together knowing said prophecy, and he asks angrily, “What about me? What am I supposed to do?” She tells him to live according to his fate, so he answers, “My fate is you, Chae-kyung-ah. You are my fate.”

Suddenly the romantic moment is undercut by an attacker who pushes Yeok into the river. It’s his friends, who crack up and teasingly say that he asked to be pushed (for), so they pushed him. LOL.

Yeok grouses, and while Seok-hee is busy gloating, Gwang-oh kicks him from behind, launching all four boys into an all-out water war. They throw each other around, and Yeok picks Chae-kyung up and carries her in with them, and they laugh and play like children.

Yeok walks Chae-kyung home that night, and they’re reluctant to part just like the first night he’d walked her home years ago. Chae-kyung tenses in anticipation when Yeok steps forward and reaches his arms around her…

But he just unties his ring from around her neck and says that if they made a promise, there needs to be a token. He puts the ring back on his finger, and when she points out that she hasn’t answered or promised anything, he flashes the ring and says she needn’t use words because he’s already heard her reply.

She asks hesitantly if she can really trust him and do as he said, and asks one last time if he’s confident that he won’t have any regrets, and if he isn’t scared of her fate. She says that she could ruin his life, but he counters, “Without you, I’d be broken anyway.” Did you put on your swoonypants today?

Yeok wipes away her tears tenderly and says he’ll return in the morning with a proper proposal present, but she snaps up a twig from the ground and says this is all she needs. He looks at the stick in confusion, then Chae-kyung turns around and starts to wrap her long hair into a bun—the hairstyle indicating that she is a married woman.

She waits for him to use the stick like a binyeo to hold her hair up, and he breaks into a smile as he realizes what she wants. She helps him guide the stick through her hair and then turns to face him, and his eyes fill with tears.

She says with a smile, “We have promised.” He repeats, “We have promised.”

Chae-kyung’s mother frets over this impending marriage, but her husband takes her hand and asks her to trust him. He says he’s going to make sure of it that Yeok and Chae-kyung grow old as lifelong friends, just like them. Aw.

Yeok returns to the palace to find one of the king’s eunuchs pacing nervously and waiting for him. While taking a bath, Yeonsangun grows angrier the longer he waits for Yeok to return, only thinking of how long Yeok and Chae-kyung will have been together.

Yeok goes straightaway to greet his brother, and explains that his clothes are wet because he was playing with his friends. Yeonsangun tells Yeok to join him in the bath, but Yeok blocks the court lady from undressing him and says he’ll wait for Yeonsangun outside. I can’t imagine he wants to show his brother his scars.

They meet for a round of archery, and Yeonsangun asks how preparations for the wedding are going. Yeok says he finally gained Chae-kyung’s permission, and adds pointedly, “How could I call myself a man if I couldn’t even read the heart of the woman I loved?” Buuuuurn.

Yeonsangun asks for the real reason Yeok is marrying Chae-kyung, but Yeok answers that the only reason is Chae-kyung herself. He calls her violent, and a little naughty, thinking of all the ways she threw herself at him when she thought he was a ghost. He purposely chooses sharp words, describing her as an easy woman who seduced a stranger, but then he adds wistfully that she’s also more stubborn than a bear, thinking of her hanging on that cross in his place.

He calls her tiresome, and Yeonsangun asks in disbelief how that can be the reason he wants to marry her. Yeok brings home his point with one last blow: “So the only man who can handle Chae-kyung is me.” I’m a little afraid for your life right now.

They both maintain their composure, though the tension is unmistakable as they punctuate each line with deadly arrows aimed at their targets. In response, Yeonsangun splits one of his previous arrows with frightening precision and tells Yeok to live happily, but walks away thinking to himself that Yeok will pay the price for trying to take what is his.

Yeok watches him go and says in voiceover that he’s fine to let his brother win at target practice, but that he will reclaim everything else, beginning with Chae-kyung.

Myung-hye drinks alone that night while battling her tears, and thinks back to the queen dowager telling her that Chae-kyung will only be a placeholder until Yeok succeeds in claiming the throne, after which Myung-hye will be the woman by his side. Myung-hye had acted like it didn’t bother her in the least, but now she pours drink after drink dejectedly.

Seo-no shows up and yanks the bottle out of her hand, and she’s annoyed by the sudden show of concern, insisting that she won’t break just because Yeok is marrying some other girl. Seo-no awkwardly replies that he’s not worried—he came to tell her that they found Secretary Im’s secret treasure trove. Wah wah.

Chae-kyung adorably preens in front of the mirror with her new matron hairdo, and tries to hide her twig binyeo when Nanny catches her. Nanny catches on right away, and Chae-kyung says coquettishly that it’s high time she gets married.

Nanny warns her that men are not to be trusted easily, and Chae-kyung says she’s done her due diligence. But when Nanny asks if she’s done a thorough check of his relationships with other women, Chae-kyung suddenly remembers his kiss with Myung-hye and gasps in horror. Nanny prepares to pound some heads, while Chae-kyung runs out the door.

Yeok arrives at the Snail Bride camp deep in the woods, and is surprised when there are so few men there. Seo-no says that Deputy Commander Park took most of them away for a new mission, which is the first that Yeok is hearing about it.

He storms into the pawnshop angrily, asking how Deputy Commander Park could send his men on a mission without his approval. Park just says he had to make a decision because Secretary Im was planning to move his stockpile, so tonight was their only opportunity to raid it. Yeok asks what happens if they get caught, and Park says it would be a necessary sacrifice.

Yeok shouts that these are his friends, but Deputy Commander Park counters that his niece is among them. As the Snail Brides raid Secretary Im’s stolen treasures, Deputy Commander Park tells Yeok that he plans to return the stolen items to the ministers they belong to, gaining favor for the Snail Brides in the process.

Yeok argues that the real owner of that stuff is the people, not the wealthy ministers, but Park says he’s not here to uphold the law—they need as many people on their side so that the coup succeeds and Yeok’s position is secure, and tells him to use whoever is necessary to become king, “just as you are using Minister Shin’s daughter.”

What the Snail Brides fail to notice is that Scarface and his men have returned to the storehouse just in time to catch them in the act and quietly trail them. When they return to the pawnshop, Yeok erupts at them in anger, only calming down once he sees that they’re okay.

Deputy Commander Park tells Myung-hye that Yeok hasn’t matured much at all and still has his youthful temper and soft heart. She says it’s Chae-kyung’s fault and that she’s ruining Yeok, and that she plans to plant a spy in their midst to keep an eye on him.

Her uncle asks if Seo-no might be lying about not being in touch with his father, but Myung-hye breaks into a little smile as she says that with Seo-no, what you see is what you get. He’s surprised to see her show interest in another man, which she covers up as simply part of her mission.

Meanwhile, Scarface and his men trail the thieves all the way back to the pawnshop, and lie in wait. Oh no.

Yeok stares at his strategy wall and thinks back to an earlier conversation with Deputy Commander Park, who told him that once they filled a sheet with the names of people on Yeok’s side, they would incite a revolt, and those who were not on their list would be killed. He pointed to Yeonsangun and Minister Shin’s names on the wall, saying that Minister Shin will have to decide once and for all whose side he’s on.

Chae-kyung nears the pawnshop just as Secretary Im arrives ahead of her to meet Scarface and his men. Luckily Seo-no sees them approach and the Snail Brides rush to hide the stolen goods just in time. Gwang-oh and Seo-no pretend to be drunk when Secretary Im storms inside, while Yeok grabs his sword from behind the false door, ready to strike.

Secretary Im recognizes Gwang-oh as one of Yeok’s friends, and as he snoops around the room, getting dangerously close to the hideout’s secret door, Yeok’s friends hold him back on the other side.

Seo-no recognizes Scarface as the man who took his father away years ago, and Scarface raises his sword to Seo-no’s neck to ask if they’ve met before. Seo-no balls his hand into a fist, but he says pleasantly that they don’t know each other.

Secretary Im seems to sense something off about Seo-no, when suddenly Chae-kyung walks in and asks what they’re doing. Secretary Im says his men followed thieves here, and shares his theory that either there’s a backdoor out of this place or a secret room. Chae-kyung adds that Scarface could’ve seen wrong, pointing out that his vision doesn’t seem all that great.

Scarface draws his sword angrily, but Chae-kyung is faster and grabs a scroll to knock the sword right out of his hand. Badass. She has Scarface’s sword held to Secretary Im’s neck before any of the henchmen can react.

They surround her with swords, and from the secret room, Yeok flails to free himself from Seok-hee’s grasp, but he holds even tighter. Chae-kyung warns through gritted teeth that if Secretary Im attacks an innocent person without evidence one more time, she won’t stand by. He’s surprised that she knows how to wield a sword, and Chae-kyung says boldly that her father taught her how to protect herself.

Secretary Im knows he can’t touch her, so he laughs and walks out, and Scarface looks pretty pathetic as he yanks his sword out of Chae-kyung’s hand before trailing after him. Seo-no locks the door behind them, and everyone lets out the breath they were holding in. Outside, Scarface says that Seo-no was with Yeok when he was attacked on the ship, and Secretary Im wonders where he’s heard that name before.

The boys are still weak in the knees from shock, while Chae-kyung blurts that she’d like to poke that man’s eyes out. She catches the horrified looks around her and quickly rephrases herself to sound demure. From behind the door, Yeok smiles.

Seo-no worries that Scarface and Secretary Im will recognize him and try to go after Yeok again for rescuing his father. He says that’s why they had to pretend not to know her all this time, and Chae-kyung assures him that she’s going to make sure no one can bother them about that ever again.

Yeok smiles proudly and then follows her from a distance as she walks home, smiling to himself at her bravery. On the way, she suddenly changes course and goes in the opposite direction of home.

Secretary Im tells the king about the pawnshop, and when Nok-soo suggests having Chae-kyung investigate it further, Secretary Im says that Chae-kyung stopped him from looking around tonight asks how they’ll know if she’s really on their side.

As they walk out, Chae-kyung runs up to speak with Yeonsangun, and Secretary Im narrows his snake eyes at her. Chae-kyung has come to ask if Yeonsangun still suspects Yeok, and if there’s anything he can do to prove his loyalty. She says she wants to protect Yeok, who’ll be her husband soon.

But her question only ignites Yeonsangun’s jealousy and he asks how she thinks she can protect Yeok and clear his suspicions: “What are you? You’re nothing but a girl. How can you scorn the king so? Why?! Why… do you only speak of Yeok? I am here before you, you can reach out and touch me, and you are looking into my eyes, but your lips speak only of Yeok.”

Chae-kyung is shocked by this sudden turn, and a short distance away, Yeok arrives to see them together. Yeonsangun continues, “I must have gone crazy… to send you to another man. I am the king! There is nothing that the king of Joseon cannot have! Thus, I must have you as well.”

Chae-kyung looks terrified as Yeonsangun pulls her into an embrace. She struggles to pull away, but he holds her tightly, and then sneers down at her before pulling her into a kiss.

And from the bridge, Yeok stands frozen as he watches them, his eyes locked on their kiss.

COMMENTS

Noooooooooooo. Why, why must you break my heart so? Yeok was just starting to trust Chae-kyung again and become a little bit of his old self around her (he was making jokes and being charming on purpose!), but it feels like everything they’ve rebuilt since his public return has crumbled in this one moment. Sometimes I wonder how Yeok could possibly be so blind not to see Chae-kyung’s love for him, but then stuff like this happens and I’m reminded of how deeply wounded he is thinking that Yeonsangun may have replaced him in the years he was gone.

And here I was, happy that he learned of the prophecy so quickly and was able to argue with Chae-kyung about it head-on (another example of how quickly this plot moves along, and how refreshing that is week after week). But then this bombshell gets dropped, and now I just want to curl up into a ball and cry until Wednesday comes and Chae-kyung gets a chance to clear up the misunderstanding. The problem is, I don’t know if Yeok misunderstands at all, because I’m pretty sure he already knows that Yeonsangun is the one in love with Chae-kyung, and not the other way around. I’m just scared that he will always doubt her now, which I can’t bear.

Yeonsangun’s breakdown with Nok-soo was so chilling, and despite having waited all this time for him to snap, I was still shocked when it happened. There was a frightening disconnect between his actions—cold, possessive, murderous—and the underlying emotions he was grappling with—discovering that he had been in love all this time, and not being able to accept that such a petty emotion could have such a hold over him. As with everything else in his life, love is twisted up with hate and self-loathing, and yet I was still shocked by how easily he landed on the conclusion that he’d rather kill Chae-kyung than give her to another man. In the last scene when he tried to possess her with a kiss, he seemed to disdain her as much as he craved her affection, which is fascinating and deeply, deeply disturbing.

I was terrified that all of Yeok’s verbal jabs at his brother were going to come back around in a really bad way, and I think we’ve gotten our answer. I admit that I’m impressed whenever Yeok is able to verbally spar with Yeonsangun now that he’s an adult, but it still scares me more than anything because I fear the repercussions, especially when they’re posturing in front of each other about Chae-kyung. It’s just a recipe for disaster.

Chae-kyung is now officially stuck between a rock and a hard place, which will probably be the understatement of the year as this love triangle erupts into the full-scale tragedy we know it’s about to. I spent the episode worried that Chae-kyung would find out about Yeok using her in a strategic marriage, because it’s the expected misunderstanding at this stage; I was not prepared for Yeonsangun to suddenly become their greatest obstacle as a direct romantic rival. I have to say, I’m consistently surprised by the pace of this story and impressed by each new story turn, and I don’t remember the last time I’ve so enjoyed the psychological warfare between such a screwed up pair of brothers. If only they didn’t love the same girl. But come on, how could you not love this girl?

Just finished this episode a few minutes ago and all I want to say is I love it. I love how Shin Soo-Geun cares for the teenage Lee Yoong when he is deprived of family love. I love how the bromance is sparkling when Yeok's gang lightheartedly play water splashing in the stream. I especially love how Chaekyung can overcome the appalling prophecy and follows her heart, taking her love for Yeok more seriously than the presage. And when Yeok says his destiny is to be with Chaekyung instead of adhering to the prophecy to protect himself which means avoiding her, my heart just crumbles into pieces. I honestly cherish every single moment watching this show.

Same! I think my heart stopped when he said that "you’re my destiny" line. It could so easily have come off as cheesy, but YWJ delivered it with such sincerity and those eyes brimming with unshed tears that my poor heart didn't even stand a chance.

I'm so pleased YWJ has come back fighting with such a nuanced role but lets him do what he does best - romcom with a generous helping of melo. Bring on the tissues and the tears, show!

I agree, the you're my destiny read really cheesy, but he was so sincere it worked, and made sense in context.

Man, this show is like a lovely punch in the gut.
It hurts. But I can't deflect.

LOL

Why is it that when I see "You are My Destiny" the song "You are My Everything" immediately pops into my brain?

It's like that song "It's a Small World" at Disneyland. Once it starts playing in your head you can't stop it. XP

YWJ did his best in Drama Special 'Ordinary Love' (2012) and received an award for his performance.
Contrary to the genre the title OL seemingly suggests,it was a drama.

Everytime Yung laughs, I worry for our OTP. He is getting more paranoid, jealous and unstable that not even Chae Kyung is safe from his maniacal episodes. On the other hand, the romance between our OTP is so achingly sweet that it seems very precious when faced with the looming tragedy. They really do have amazing chemistry!

How awesome was Chae Kyung when she tricks the sword out of the one-eyed man's hands!! <3 No wonder Yeok pursues her in spite of opposition from almost all sides. :D

I cheered for Seo Noh when he reminded Yeok of Chae Kyung's influence in his life and pushed him towards her. Seo Noh actively shipping our OTP while playfully teasing Yeok was such a treat to watch :D.

The Peril created by CK and Y’s Marriage:
King re CK and Y: His manic laughter returns, and he spits out bitterly, “I will make yours the most hellish marriage on this earth.”

NS & SI re Shin and King: Nok-soo tells Secretary Im that it only benefits him if Chae-kyung marries Yeok and takes his side, further driving a wedge between the two brothers. He tells her that if that really happens, he’ll reward her handsomely.

DCP & DQ re Shin and Y: Deputy Commander Park worries that the king actively pushing for Yeok’s marriage only means that he trusts Minister Shin completely, and in turn Minister Shin won’t betray that trust easily. The queen dowager says that there’s only one way—to make sure that Chae-kyung is firmly on their side, because there is no parent who will win over their own child.

The demise of the Shin family:
King re: Shin and his family: Minister Shin assures him that he is loyal to the king, and that before he is Yeok’s father-in-law, he is the king’s servant first and foremost. He vows to stop any act of treason with his life...Yeonsangun leans down to say, “The moment you betray me, I will kill your wife, your children, your relatives. I will kill them all, and Chae-kyung will be the first to die.”

Y and DCP re: Shin and his family: Yeok stares at his strategy wall and thinks back to an earlier conversation with Deputy Commander Park, who told him that once they filled a sheet with the names of people on Yeok’s side, they would incite a revolt, and those who were not on their list would be killed. He pointed to Yeonsangun and Minister Shin’s names on the wall, saying that Minister Shin will have to decide once and for all whose side he’s on.

King re CK: “I thought of you as family, as a friend! How could you be in the arms of another man? I’m going to kill you. If I can’t keep you by my side, then I will kill you to keep you!”

MH & DQ re CK: Myung-hye drinks alone that night while battling her tears, and thinks back to the queen dowager telling her that Chae-kyung will only be a placeholder until Yeok succeeds in claiming the throne, after which Myung-hye will be the woman by his side.

I haven't liked a drama this much in such a long time! And my absolute favorite thing is Chae-kyung. In so many dramas, I wonder why does the hero, let alone the second lead etc loved the heroine so much but here it just makes so much sense. She isn't perfect by any means, but she is so adorable, and loyal and brave that everyone should lover her lol. I wish more female leads were written like Chae-kyung. Or maybe they are and the actresses usually just don't do justice to the writing? Anyway, Chae-kyung is awesome and if we have to witness her death, it is going to be very painful.

All the feeeeeeeeels! Lee Dong Gun outdid himself again, I’m starting to see the real crazy tyrant Yeonsangun in this episode. (Can LDG just play sageuk from now??) A part of me feel really bad for him since he’s just somebody who lacks parental love, but another part of me can’t deny history. I really can’t hate this Yeonsangun when played by LDG, he just does such a fantastic job, someone give this guy an award this year please. This drama is really trying to make Yeonsangun to not look like the bad guy, real life Yeonsangun is probably laughing in his grave right now. The ending of the episode surprised me, it’s interesting to see that a few episodes back Chaekyung saw Myung Hye smooching Yeok, now Yeok gets to witness Chaekyung being kissed by Yeonsangun. I really hope Yeok doesn’t think Chaekyung is a spy for the king in next week’s episodes… Enough of the angst and misunderstandings!

And what the heck happened to Jang Nok Soo being Yeonsangun’s favorite concubine? She seems like his secretary more like…

The scene where Yeok pins Chaekyung’s hair! The guy looked like he was about to cry from happiness (yaaaas she gon be mah wife). I’m glad Chaekyung agreed on the marriage, I think we can all agree they deserve some happiness together.

That scene where Yeok gazes lovingly at her while she sleeps, UGH I CAN’T DEAL WITH THIS CUTENESS. And I think Chaekyung is super badass, using a sword like that and defending her friends, you do you girl.

Seo-No is super cute, I swear he’s the biggest shipper of Yeok-Chaekyung. Yeok and Seo-No are super childish in this episode, I feel like I was watching their younger selves! Man, there’s definitely a love line between Myung-Hye and Seo-No, she looked flustered when uncle confronted her. Seriously will none of the OTPs get a happy ending? T_T

I’ve loved how the character has been written in that his demons are so real. They're ones that most of the audience has probably witnessed, first or second hand.

The unfair way he was treated in his youth left him broken. For him, love always ended in pain and loss. And the more he loved - or wanted love - the more pain he would receive. Thus, he’s evolved into a person who subconsciously fears love as deeply as he craves it. As an adult he wants to protect himself by rising above his need for love. And when it’s clear he can’t, he loathes himself for the powerlessness that love brings.

The powerlessness -- heaped on top of his deep sense of inherent unworthiness -- creates deep-seated anxiety and insecurity. His coping mechanism for this is to be controlling with anyone he's close to -- seeking to retain them by setting up both rules of devotion and severe penalties for breaking those rules (using the inner emotional logic of ‘If you leave me I will make sure you hurt more than me'). This, in turn, breaks trust, drives away any natural affection and perpetuates his vicious love/pain cycle.

The character is a virtual case study of the out workings of family brokenness.

I was fine with Yeonsangun. Key word: was. I shipped him with Chae-kyung and loved their scenes. Now, he's as paranoid as ever and just getting worse. His jealousy is taking over is state of mind and he's being even more controlling. I'm scared of what he's going to do to Chae-kyung and her family more and more as the episodes go. But, I love the way LDG acts. His ability to portray this character with all of the emotion necessary says a lot about him as an actor and it's brilliant. All of the actors/tresses are brilliant.

On a happier side, I'm so so so so glad that the trio is back!! I was waiting for the day they reunited and this episode they did so yay!! I need to see more of them in upcoming episodes ❤ Also, Chae-kyung and Yeok are moving forward in their marriage! I love all of their moments because they are so cute! Chae-kyung's attitude is just great. From sassy to emotional to charming, I love it ❤

We all know how it's going to end, but I'm really curious on how we're going to get there. I just hope I don't cry too much, but not making any promises. Thanks girlfriday for the recap!!

I seriously have never felt so strongly towards a kdrama love line before. Maybe it's because I've never actually loved someone this much (besides family, of course) that it overwhelms me. It's so crazy. They just love each other so much, everything be damned. I can't imagine myself letting everything go for one person. I think it's absolutely crazy yet amazing how people can feel such strong emotions. History is the biggest spoiler but I just want the two of them to be together, like can't we just let them be? Poor babies just want to love!

It seems that people around them think Yeok is only using Chae-kyung so he can have power to take the throne but to me, it seems like he only wants them to think that way. He just wants to marry Chae-kyung, period.

I loveeeeeeeeeeee Seo-no! I'm so grateful he exist in this dramaverse. He's the voice of reason! And he's so cute in this episode! I also love how Chae-kyung's parents' marriage wasn't a political one. They indeed love each other and still going strong until now.

Damn you, Yeonsangun!!!! Why does Lee Donggun have to play the character so well? WHYYYY! I'm so freaking torn. What he did in the end was a low blow though. I need the next episode! *in Kim Seulgi's voice* RIGHT NOW!

I love how Chae-kyung's father used the term "lifelong friends" to describe his marriage. It makes me feel that mom and dad truly are partners and confidantes, and that the love between them has truly stood the test of time. *wipes tear*

Yeonsangun... damn. I know he's emotionally broken, capable of love but incapable of taking care of it. I've been feeling sorry for him, but that move with Chae-kyung disgusted me. It makes sense for him to be so cruel and possessive, to mix love and hate as he did with Yeok years ago. In a way, I've been waiting for him to turn into this maniacal creep for a while now (he did historically turn Sungkyunkwan into his pleasure ground) but now that it happened... omo. So bad, but so good.

I think the reason why they are letting everything go but we are being a little skeptical about it is beacuse we know how it turned out. We as the audience know that the prophecy is true but they at this moment as characters can just shun/avoid it as a superstition. Even though the start of this drama was amazing, I think that is one of the reasons why the Korean audience hasn't tuned into watching this show. If we think back most of the epsiodes have had rom coms elements than melo but we know how things would turn out so every moment has that slight melo tone/feel.

Can I just say how much I love it when unnecessary angst is avoided and not used in a way which is painfully squeezed across way too many episodes. I can't say I love angst but give me conflict that I can actually understand and see the weight of, and I'm on board.

Communication between Yeok and CK is so great. I'm so glad Yeok found out about the prophecy this episode even though I'll miss his adorable attempts at wooing CK (I say attempt but let's be honest, he had us all) From watching previous dramas, I expected CK to not clear up the misunderstanding about taking caution of the prophecy because of her own safety, in order to distance herself from him. So I was delighted when she just plainly told him that she didn't want to put him in danger. They talked through it together like adults and they decided to be together. It does make me wonder how a situation as serious as this can cause less drama between the main couple, in comparison to drama couples who have fallen out over much less lol.

I love the serious and emotional scenes with so much weight that I'm always on the edge of my seat but this show does those light, breezy scenes oh so well too. I might have replayed the meeting between CK and SN just a few times - specifically SN and Yeok fighting over who would help CK out. Hahaha, I could almost see their child counterparts in their place. Then when Yeok's friend interrupted his heartfelt speech to CK to literally push him into the water, I was done. I got my wish, they all looked so happy for a fleeting moment.

It's so easy to see that everyone who has known CK long enough, adores her. She's such a strong willed character and it makes her so endearing when she fights her own corner like she did at the pawn shop. Hahaha that comment about wanting to gouge his eyes out and then changing her words to something a little more ladylike after was hilarious.

Yeosangun? why can I only seem to feel pity for you. His realisation that CK and Yeok loved one another was just a punch to the gut. Then he realised why he felt that way... Although YSG has started to pod trust in CK, I'm worried about what that outburst at the end means for CK's feelings towards YSG.

Why i always have the same sentiment everytime i read dramabeans recap on this particular drama?

I am not really a fan of a saeguk stories. I will watch one if there is actor or actresses that i like in that drama. But never really like this drama. The feelings, the emotion, the unpredictable pace of this drama, the amazing cast the whole team from young actor to now as i am a fan of park min young itself. I totally love love love this drama. Every scene between lee yeok and shin chae gyeong will make my heart flutter and dugun2. Its like i can feel their emotions too.

Too bad, this drama got low rating among koreans. Maybe becoz they were a bit late compare to ruler of the master mask. Or perhaps because of the sad ending of this history. But even so, i must congratulate the PD nim because this plot is very strong and i love just the way it is.

The drama is doing bad for my health. I ws all giddy and made unidentified sounds when Chae Kyung and Yeok became so close in the water, and when he took her home. And then I was all terrified and anxious at all Yeonsangun (and Yeok)'s scenes.

But..... If Moonlight Drawn by Clouds could rewrite history and gave a happy ending for what was historically known as a tragic hero, can't we hope for the same happy ending for this OTP?? I dun care the mechanism, fake death or whatever, but I desperately want Yeok and Chae Kyung to have their own happy ending.

There were many times that I wanted the writer just to Moonlight the heck out of this ending, but I can respect and understand her decision for the need to follow the history more accurately. I am working some mental gymnastics to think about how to make this a happier ending for our couple (i.e. underground tunnel for their secret rendezvous, etc.) to soften the blow. What makes it a even more bitter pill for me to swallow is knowing that our second female lead Myung-hye will indeed prevail and becoming the Yeok’s queen and gave births to his children (albeit her own tragic death while doing so.) Ughhhh!

Lee Dong Gun, his manic phase was scary and heartbreaking. KBS, you better give him all the awards at year end. You better. I expected this but it was still scary. My...my....we are sharing the same opinion. I want her heart to stir as well. As I said before, this drama gave a totally refreshing takes on Yeonsangun. We definitely know his fate and the monster he will become but unlike other dramas before, where he was so easily hated and loathed. This Yeonsangun is so layered. As they said, there's always a good in every person and this drama showed that side of Yeonsangun. Or may be this is all LDG's works and magic.

I do hope KBS gives this show its due recognition during the year-end awards, but I'm afraid it won't because of the low ratings. Chief Kim will probably sweep the awards. Of the three main leads, Lee Dong-gun is the most likely to get an award so I do hope it happens.

She is one of the few people aware of Yeonsangun's inner pain and longing and his lighter side and I want to see how Yeok and Yeonsangun's growing competition for thrones and her love tugs at her feelings and her heart. In short, give me more angst, I shall take it with all with a smile.

5

Required fields are marked *

I still think it feels wrong if she's swayed by this specific kiss. I want her to (continue to) pity Yeonsangun, but I don't want her to harbor any romantic feelings for him after his "I shall claim you" speech and that rough forced kiss. In fact, I want her eyes to be opened to this ruthless side of Yeonsangun. Besides, it will feel wrong to me if she starts being attracted to a man who is, essentially, her uncle, even if only by marriage.

I do think this moment will torment her moving forward, knowing that she's one of the (many) things keeping the brothers apart.

4

I have a feeling Yeonsangun will keep flip-flopping between being manic/obsessive and caring towards Chae Kyung. What I mean isn't necessarily romantic but more like family vs. family dilemma. I don't think she'll ever love him in that way. We know her choices and the outcome, being by Yeok will cost her dearly at the end which technically won't be her fault or Yeok's.

1

@gem28 I do think she will continue to view him as family, but I do want her to start being more wary of him. It will be so poetic for Yeonsangun to try "claiming" Chae-kyung for himself despite her marriage to Yeok, only for him to ultimately push her away because of his actions. He is capable of love but he doesn't know how to express that love without mixing it with anger and hate, which ultimately is his biggest tragedy.

My favorite part of this episode, aside from Yeok and Chae Kyung's scenes, are Yeok and Seo No's scenes. Ohhh, how I love their relationship. And the way they bickered to get the No.1 attention from Chae Kyung is oh so hilarious.

The forced kiss at the end of this episode IS supposed to be very disturbing. As are Yeonsangun's maniacally possessive words that came before the kiss.

Yeah, the whole point of the kiss and whatever led to it was not supposed to be romantic at all. It was supposed to make us feel disturbed and scared.

It is effective. I am disturbed with Yeonsangun's actions and worried for CK.

2

It felt like he was marking her as his woman with that kiss, whether she wants to or not. It's awful.

4

Yeok should have expected something like this will happen to CK. He went too far and was enjoying taunting the mentally unstable king too much with his description of CL - aggressive, playful, easy, tiresome with his dreamy face. No wonder the king was desperate to put his mark too. As expected of his characters, being all unreasonable, crazy and obsessive without a care.

6

LDG's eye can also appear bigger than the other not just YWJ. Also noticed it on close ups.

During the interview, he said his right eye (smaller one) was injured while filming the fight scene (just before the cave scene). In some scenes, the injury is more visible with redness & swelling, and in other scenes, it's better because it is said that the CG team had to re-color (paint) his right eye due to severe redness. Hope this helps.

This episode is really sweet especially the friends reunion, Chae-kyung and seo-no meeting after a long time. Chae-kyung and yeok were cute together, all their moments were adorable. Everything was fine but that last scene gave me chills and I was equally terrified as Chae-kyung. I really didn't expect Yeonsangun to do this even though I could understand his pain and insecurity not being able to trust anyone what he did was bad and I am disappointed. Aish this is all bcoz of their father who created a drift between them.

The costume designer is doing a terrific job dressing everyone. I also love all of Yeonsangun's kingly robes and the beautiful accessories (hair pins, hats, etc..) This show just keeps getting better and better. I feel like I've been waiting for a good romance sageuk and this show just does it for me. I've watched Moon Lovers, which was great for the amount of eye candies and Lee Joon Gi's acting but its directing had so many flaws. Moonlight but it was more of a rom com that it was a bit unrealistic. This show has the right balance of cuteness, politics, bad ministers and romance.

Although I'm slightly annoyed when Yeok says mean things about Chae Gyung even though I know its just for show, and saying its a strategic marriage (cant they just get married because they love each other?)

P.S. Not trying to be petty but I keep noticing that Yeon Woo Jin's eyes are different-sized. Probably more so in this drama because he's meant to glare a lot.

First thing I thought after the end of the episode, Yeok PLEASE don't misunderstand! Yeonsangun has made it clear to CK that there no longer exists a family tie between them.

CK was such a badass today. Even surprised Seo No and made Yeok proud. I have a fear that she'll lose that soon and become a typical martyr.

The badass CK in the pawn shop got me like "You da girl!" she's literally the kind of heroine the dramaland needs and all. Everything in this drama is perfect to give you a heart attack and guess what? When I first heard that YWJ would be doing a sageuk I got so excited for this drama. I fall in love with him in Arang and the Magistrate and I can't wait to see him in hanbok once again. But when I read that PMY is the female lead, my excitement fell from 10 to 2. To be honest, I'm not very fond of PMY (looking at you Healer) and I thought the romance in this drama would just be bland and eventually annoying like Introverted Boss. But, boy, this drama is a revelation: the acting, plot, pacing, cinematography are so on point. PMY is now my fave and my love for YWJ burned brighter (lol), not to mention LDG's brilliant performance (I haven't seen him since Lovers in Paris) is killing me. That's why I don't understand the low ratings. This drama is soooo underrated like Lee Jehoon and Shin Minah's Tomorrow with You.

True about the low ratings. I hope the network does not cut any episodes and hopefully it will get the recognition it deserves. Maybe it's because the other dramas running at the same time slot were aired before and gained more followers first. But i would have to say that this drama is the best in that time slot currently, in terms of writing and directing. It's sad that quality does not always translate into ratings.

Seo Noh is smart and adorable and a great friend! Chae Kyung kicked butt in this episode. I am so proud of her. The prince is so cute when in love. The characters are so smart in this drama, it is so fun to watch. My dislike for the Queen Dowager is deeper by episode. She is one of those ppl who made Yeon turn out this way. She keeps on doing her shady stuff and breaking the brothers further apart. She and her dog (forgot the guy's name or title whoops) are just greedy.

Thank you for this recap, Girlfriday!

I do think that Yeok actually heard the conversation in that last scene. Well, I really would like to think that he didn't misunderstand Chae-gyung and that she was just forced to kiss Yeonsangun. Speaking of...I did want Yeonsangun to be jealous but my, he's just so twisted and unhinged now that I take that back! He's really totally losing it.

When Yeonsangun asked that hypothetical question to Minister Shin he was like mad, and he asked not without threatening the minister's family, of course (shudder). I was like "What? omo!" during the scene when he almost choked Nok-soo to death when I realised he was actually "yelling and killing" Chae-gyung, and then that last scene, he was just appalling. I was glad that Chae-gyung actually said that she wants to protect Yeok as he is going to be her future husband before Yeonsangun was able to tell her to spy for him (I was nervous about Chae-gyung's promise that she'll never lie to Yeonsangun again).

That kiss, ugh! I feel for Yeonsangun as he really yearns for love, but to force a kiss on Che-gyung whom he said was his family, his friend, his refuge, just because he's the king? Now that's one tyrant. Now I don't understand the dynamics during those times, but the king already has a queen, there are also concubines/ consorts, now if he remains to be the ass that he is and would like to have Chae-gyung as his, is that actually possible? I know the royal's order should be obeyed, so that's that? She's his queen's niece, is it "so what"? I do hope that it's just a tantrum that he'd soon regret and be apologetic for, but knowing kings, and this king in particular, well I know it's just too much to hope for which is really sad.

Yeok is so endearing. Yes, I swooned during the last episode when he said that his biggest lie was when he said he didn't miss Chae-gyung because he actually missed her...sooo much. Then again this time when he said, "Without you, I'll be ruined anyway". Then he was teary when he was about to put the twig on her hair, I was like oh god this man is just sooo in lurve!!!

Dear oh dear, oh dear, it's another six whole days for the next ep! Unbelievable!

Thank you for this recap, girlfriday! I really appreciate this update because I watched this episode raw. I had some training stuff to catch by the time the subs were out and I was so eager to know what Yeonsangun would do after seeing them hug. So thank you for helping me understand better through this recap!?

I made very little sense of what they were saying except for the scene with Seo-no encouraging Yeok to go for it. I'm glad I got what he said correctly. I had a good idea of what was going on simply because I feel like Seo-no, when it comes to our OTP, is my fangirl self. Haha! ?

I feel sad that Yeok might find reason to doubt Chae-kyung, but I believe that the drama will delight us even more with its execution which makes it all the more exciting.

Off to watch it again, with subs this time. Have a great weekend, beanies!

Forget the romance which I couldn't get totally vested in because it feels like Yeok is manipulating Chae young for his own selfish ends and it breaks my heart. When Chae Kyung talks about Yeok, all she can see is her love for him and how she can be of use to him and not hurt him. But Yeok's love for Chae Kyung is not pure hearted by any means. I know he loves her but the cynical way he speaks of the woman he loves to his King, to his mother and her minister breaks my heart.

My view is that Chae Kyung is a bird caught between a wolf and a tiger and in the end, she's going to be the one hurt, and her family become prey. It's a shame she's not political astute and savvy, because she would know how to better deal with both Yeonsangun and Yeok and navigate the treacherous waters of the palace. There are so many who are willing to tear her apart including Nok Soo, the Queen Mother, Chief Secretary, Deputy Commander Park and his niece. I find myself wishing that she wouldn't marry Yeok, as things are already in motion for the nun's prophesy to come true.

And while Chae Kyung is so focused on not hurting the Grand Prince, maybe she should spare some thoughts on herself and her family not getting harmed by the warring factions of the Royal Family.

1 yeok was exile while proctecting chae kyung taking all the blame when they were young
2he provoked the king into saving her after she was put on that cross
3 he came back after yrs in last week's episode and saved chae kyung with her entire family clearing the thief plot set by the evil minister
4 he is trying his best to win her back
5if i was chae kyung and love yeok the way she does since childhood it would have been hard for me to walk away from him too
yeok and chae kyung love is the best part of this drama for me especially their struggle, its rare for me to love seguk couple this much, they deserve eachother even if it wont last............yeok loves chae kyung from their childhood days, even in history she was the love of his life even when she was dethrone in history it was plotted by others and his father did bcome a traitor after leading a coup against yeok leaving him no choice .

No, I don't want her to end up with the crazy king. Nevertheless I don't want her to end up as a political pawn in the hands of master players like Nok Soo or the Queen Mother. You cannot ignore the danger she is courting by marrying Yeok. If it were a simple love match between nobles, or ordinary citizens I would cheer them to the heavens.

However Yeok is not your average citizen is he? He's next in line to the throne and is planning to usurp the throne from his brother . That alone compromises Chae Kyung and her family who are loyal to the king. Let's not pretend that it isn't a dangerous position to be in.

I keep being surprised by how strong every episode is.

And this is the episode I left Undecided Territory and sailed on the Yeok ship. The king has finally gone unhinged. Yeok on the other hand, keeps getting more swoon worthy. I keep replaying that part when he smiled and said, "Did you sleep well?". Can you get any more adorable? His smiles and those looks he keeps giving Chae-Kyung...can we just ship them off somewhere and they could live happily away from all the palace intrigues? I've never wanted a happy ending so badly.

Also, can I just say Chae-kyung, why can't there be more of you in dramaland ? I love that part where she handled that sword and took it out from Scarface.

They were loyal subjects to the deceased King. If they abandoned their roles in the court, the people lives will be harder on top of the crazy and ruthless things done by the king and his fleet of bad officials. Whether CK involved with the prince or not, I still think her clan will end up slaughtered by the winning faction once the prince took the throne.

I could not feel like watching this after the time break and transition to new actors. The child actors were so adorable and their ultimate fate was unbearable, so I didn't want to witness the angst along the way nor their eventual fate. But the magic that is damabean recaps is pullin me in. I am facinated to learn why this is not more popular in Korea and therefore suffers poor ratings. In one way it's a shame that catering to American taste, or should that be Western, is dizneyfing a kdrama but it's also true that the King, one of the worst in Koren history is made to feel extreemly personable and relateable. Stellar acting and production values enhance this drama. What evil characters most of the females are. For the most part,I find them more distressing than the men. Truly the female is the more deadly of the species (Kipling)!
