Suspicious Partner: Episodes 11-12

This episode proves that getting the answers you’re looking for doesn’t necessarily solve the mystery, and those same answers can often make the truth even harder to ferret out. Bong-hee finds herself at odds wth Ji-wook as she defends her first murder case, but Ji-wook’s instincts from his many years as a prosecutor are telling him that something isn’t adding up. Their first case together may end up being their last if they can’t find a way to work together.
EPISODE 11 RECAP
When Ji-wook comes home after his and Eun-hyuk’s losing fight against the students, Bong-hee corners him to doctor up his injuries. She watches over him after he falls asleep, enjoying the chance to admire him all she wants.
Some time later, Ji-wook wakes to find that Bong-hee has nodded off, and it’s his turn to settle in for a good long look. When Bong-hee’s head starts to topple off her hand, Ji-wook reaches out reflexively to catch her face in his palm.
He’s mesmerized as Bong-hee nestles her face into his hand and smiles in her sleep. He narrates that this is a beginning, the first step of a circumstance or an emotion.
It’s a sweet moment, but Ji-wook then faces the problem of what to do when his arm starts to get tired. He tries to readjust his position, but at the exact moment that he’s holding Bong-hee’s face in both hands, she wakes up.
Ji-wook drops his hands and tells Bong-hee not to get the wrong idea. She teases him, asking him to clarify what he’s telling her not to do while enjoying his inability to think of a response. When he realizes she’s pulling his leg, he pulls rank, reminding her that he’s her boss. Bong-hee apologizes for her misbehavior, but when Ji-wook heads to his room, she impishly tells him to lock his door or she might accidentally come in, earning herself a withering look. HA.
Ji-wook calls his new employees together for their first official meeting. CEO Byun opens the meeting by asking if they’re going to fire Bong-hee. Chief Bang (though he’s not a section chief anymore, we’ll continue to ceremoniously call him Chief Bang) says that they need a secretary, to which CEO Byun says they already have one in Bong-hee. Uh-oh.
Bong-hee informs him that she’s a licensed attorney, but CEO Byun argues that she should also perform secretarial duties, since her reputation will bring the new firm down. Laughing his awkward laugh, Eun-hyuk says he’ll bring in plenty of profit and requests to be made partner. Ji-wook’s “Don’t push your luck” glare is hysterical.
CEO Byun wants to talk about Ji-wook and Eun-hyuk’s battle wounds, so they tell him about their fight. CEO Byun has to one-up them, saying that he once fought thirty-seven guys all by himself, and when Bong-hee scoffs, he launches into a long, embellished story. Ji-wook finally explodes, screaming for them to get to work.
Later, CEO Byun joins Ji-wook in the kitchen to ask about his relationship with Bong-hee. He’d seen her exiting the guest bedroom and asks if they’re living together, but Ji-wook says he’s just helping her out. CEO Byun doesn’t believe him for one second.
Bong-hee runs into Eun-hyuk outside, where he guesses that she knows what happened between him and Ji-wook. Bong-hee says that she does, having put the clues together.
They sit at a covered table, where Eun-hyuk tells Bong-hee that thanks to her, Ji-wook called him for the first time in years (to take her murder case). He asks her not to hate him too much, and she admits that she can’t stand cheaters.
Eun-hyuk keeps laughing that odd, forced laugh of his, so Bong-hee asks why he’s always so happy and smiling. Eun-hyuk says that he wouldn’t be able to be around Ji-wook if he didn’t laugh, leaving the “or else I would have to cry” part unsaid.
Above them on the balcony, Ji-wook watches them, talking and laughing easily now. Chief Bang joins him, mischievously noting that they seem awfully close and asking if Ji-wook is jealous. Ji-wook denies it a bit too much, wondering what’s wrong with everyone today. He can say he’s not jealous all day long, but after Chief Bang leaves, Ji-wook turns the hose on Eun-hyuk. PWAHAHA.
Bong-hee’s mom shows up for her first day of work at the pizza place, still unaware that her new boss is the massage client she fought with at her old salon. She reflexively curses when she sees Ji-wook’s mother smirking at her, then pretends not to have a clue who she is.
Ji-wook’s mom mocks Bong-hee’s mom, then informs her that she’s out for revenge. Bong-hee’s mom nearly quits on the spot, but she remembers that she needs this job and sucks it up with the thinnest veneer of dignity. They trade barbs, neither willing to back down.
A flashback shows Chan-ho holding a large knife as he stands over the murdered celebrity chef’s bloody corpse. We hear Bong-hee asking him why someone would murder another person, and Chan-ho’s answer that each killer has their own reasons.
At the house, Chan-ho picks up a television remote and turns on the TV, then sits down comfortably. As he watches the TV, he mutters to himself, “A woman’s revenge. A reasonable punishment.”
Later, a woman comes home and finds the body, and she lets out a bloodcurdling scream. She starts to call the police, but something makes her stop. She grabs the TV remote that Chan-ho handled to turn off the television.
She realizes that a life-sized photo of the chef has been written on in his blood, referencing the Bible passage Deuteronomy 22:25. The woman frantically tries to clean the blood away as Chan-ho’s voice reads the passage for us: “But if a man meets a girl pledged to be married and rapes her, then only the man who has done this shall die.”
Unable to clean off the blood, the woman decides to make the murder look like a robbery. She begins to ransack the room, then looks for something expensive to hide.
Soon after, a young man named Jung Hyun-soo is arrested for the chef’s murder. Yoo-jung is assigned to prosecute him, and she asks if it’s true that he’s claiming innocence. She tells him that a witness saw him at the house on the day of the murder, recognizing him because of his frequent visits there as a courier.
She goes over the evidence, all of which points to Hyun-soo. Hyun-soo stays silent throughout all of this, and when she’s finished, all he says is that she wouldn’t believe him no matter what he said. Looking lost and frustrated, he asks softly if there’s anyone who will believe him.
Bong-hee visits her mother at work, where they vent about their annoying coworkers, CEO Byun and Ji-wook’s mom. Ji-wook’s mom overhears them and stops to make nasty comments about Bong-hee, still angry that Bong-hee’s mom once inadvertently insulted her son.
Fighting back, Bong-hee cites cases about workplace harassment, until she gets a call from Ji-wook. She irritates him by pretending it’s a very important work call and even talks down to him so that she looks good in front of her mother’s snarky boss.
She hurries back to work, where she learns that Hyun-soo has requested her as his defense lawyer. It dawns on her that it’s because she escaped murder charges herself, which doesn’t make her happy, but the others argue that a high-profile case like this will help their new firm.
Later, Bong-hee asks Ji-wook if she has to visit Hyun-soo by herself, hoping that he’ll offer to go with her. He haughtily informs her that he started his own firm so that others could do all the work, so Eun-hyuk cheerfully volunteers to go with Bong-hee.
Cut to: Bong-hee and Ji-wook on the way to the courthouse. HAHA. They run into one of Ji-wook’s old colleagues on the way in, so Bong-hee goes inside alone, only to find herself facing Yoo-jung. Yoo-jung asks if Bong-hee and Ji-wook are really dating, asserting that she has the right to know. Bong-hee grins, noting that Yoo-jung always says that when she’s at a disadvantage.
Ji-hae spies on them from around the corner as both ladies admit that they liked each other when they met, and that they’re both annoyed that the other is involved with Ji-wook. Intent on an answer, Yoo-jung asks again if Bong-hee is dating Ji-wook. Tossing her head, Bong-hee says that she is, but her eyes slide to the side and give away her lie. Yoo-jung smirks, saying, “With me around, Ji-wook…”
But Ji-wook arrives to interrupt and say that yes, she’s around, but he chose Bong-hee. He even puts an arm around Bong-hee, which is so awkward that it’s actually hard to watch, then he leads her to safety.
As soon as they’re alone, Ji-wook notices that Bong-hee isn’t breathing. He fusses at her, which makes Bong-hee pout that he’s giving her a hard time for acting like his girlfriend. Ji-wook just mumbles that he can’t let his employee be thought of as a liar. Suuure.
They finally get a chance to talk with Hyun-soo, and Bong-hee asks him why he chose her instead of a more successful lawyer. She warns him that he’d better not be expecting tips regarding lack of evidence, and Hyun-soo barks this odd little laugh. But then his lip quivers as he says, “I killed him.”
Bong-hee and Ji-wook stare, but Hyun-soo just asks if that’s what they’re expecting to hear. He wants to know if there’s another option besides pleading guilty and going for a plea bargain.
Hyun-soo is very mild and soft-spoken, the last person you’d expect to be a murderer. He tells Bong-hee that he thought she might be his best hope, and his words remind Ji-wook of Bong-hee in jail, saying almost the exact same thing to him.
Hyun-soo tells them that as a courier, he’s been to the chef’s house so many times he’s lost count. He gets upset as he says that he doesn’t understand why the prosecutor considers that evidence of his guilt. He admits that he’s lonely and scared, which tugs at Bong-hee’s heartstrings, since she knows exactly how he feels.
Confused, Yoo-jung goes to Ji-hae to ask her about Bong-hee. She doesn’t think that Bong-hee seems like a murderer, but Ji-hae says that she’s met a lot of murderers and in her opinion, anyone can kill given the right circumstances.
So Ji-hae says that yes, she believes that Bong-hee killed Hee-joon, and she vows to catch her one day. Something Ji-hae says gives Yoo-jung an idea “for an excuse,” but she doesn’t explain what she means.
Hyun-soo is asked to describe his activities on the day of the murder. He says that he went to the park, then decided to see a movie but changed his mind when the showtimes didn’t work for him. He had ddukbokki and coffee from a street cart for lunch, then went to a bar he frequents, adding that there was a birthday party going on while he was there.
Though Hyun-soo seems very sweet and gentle, something about the way Ji-wook studies him makes me nervous.
EPISODE 12 RECAP
Unfortunately, there’s no evidence to back up Hyun-soo’s story, but Bong-hee argues that there was no evidence proving her innocence either, because of the blackout. Ji-wook warns her against over-sympathizing with the defendant, grumbling that this is why he hates defense lawyers.
Upset, Bong-hee asks why he became one, and Ji-wook snaps, “Because of you!” They freeze for a moment, feeling uncomfortable, then Ji-wook says again that she can’t empathize with all murderers. They pick up their fight right where they left off, with Bong-hee saying that she only empathizes with people who are wrongly accused and Ji-wook firing back that there’s no evidence that Hyun-soo is wrongly accused.
They circle right back around to Ji-wook hating attorneys, then he yells at Bong-hee for making him repeat himself. Their bickering is the best.
That evening, Yoo-jung ambushes Eun-hyuk, practically in tears over the way he and Ji-wook are ignoring her. He doesn’t speak as she says that she knows they hate her, but that he was just as wrong as she was. When she finally talks herself out, Eun-hyuk gently says that she should go now, then walks away.
Hee-joon’s father, District Attorney Jang, visits a cake shop since today would have been Hee-joon’s birthday. He spots Bong-hee just outside the shop smiling at her phone, and he follows her until he can corner her in a dark area. He snarls at her for smiling on today of all days, when he’s buying a birthday cake that his son will never eat.
Bong-hee starts to say something, but District Attorney Jang strikes out, grabbing her by the throat. He spits that he should have been someone who didn’t follow the law, because then he could just snap her neck and be done with her.
He squeezes Bong-hee’s throat, cutting off her airway, but he lets go just before he does any permanent damage. He starts to walk away, but Bong-hee gasps after him, “I really didn’t do it,” and he turns around. She says that she can’t make him believe her, but she also can’t admit to something she never did.
District Attorney Jang booms at her, “Prove it! If it’s not you, bring me the real culprit. Until then, you’re the culprit.”
Bong-hee returns to Ji-wook’s house, once again sunny and cheerful, shoving her phone at Ji-wook and crowing that she found Hyun-soo’s alibi. She went to the bar where Hyun-soo claims to have gone on the day of the murder, and on their wall she found a photo of the birthday party he mentioned seeing.
Ji-wook says that it’s not proof that Hyun-soo was there, but Bong-hee is just happy to have reasonable grounds to believe his story. She heads to her room, but something about her demeanor makes Ji-wook concerned enough to follow her.
She’s taken off the scarf she’s wearing to reveal a growing bruise on her throat, which Ji-wook sees immediately. He pulls her hands away from her neck and softly asks what happened, adding that she can trust him when she shakes her head.
For a moment it looks like she’s going to tell him, but Bong-hee just says she doesn’t want to talk about it. Respecting her wishes, Ji-wook just asks if she’ll be okay, then he leaves her alone.
The following morning, the team gets together to discuss Hyun-soo’s case. Ji-wook decides that they need to get rid of the elderly witness who says she saw Hyun-soo leaving the murdered chef’s house. They have Bong-hee walk back and forth wearing a baseball cap, trying to figure out if an older person with weak eyesight could reliably identify someone at that distance.
Ji-wook wonders why the older woman was looking out her window at the neighbor’s house, but Eun-hyuk knows why — loneliness, the desire to connect with other people.
Ji-wook can feel that something is off about this murder, but he can’t quite pin down the problem. Chief Bang wonders why a thief would stab someone so many times, and Ji-wook confirms that the murder weapon still hasn’t been found.
He and Bong-hee visit the victim’s restaurant, but interestingly, none of the employees will speak to them. They have trouble finding their car again in the maze of alleyways, and while they’re searching, they get caught in a sudden downpour.
Ji-wook latches onto Bong-hee’s wrist, and they run through the sunlit rain until they find an underpass to take refuge in. Ji-wook smiles a tiny smile at Bong-hee’s complaints about her wet hair, and they settle in to wait out the shower.
They crouch companionably, letting the rain fall on their outstretched hands and just enjoying the calm moment. Ji-wook watches Bong-hee when she’s not looking, appreciating how pretty and carefree she looks.
On the first day of Hyun-soo’s trial, Ji-wook and Bong-hee run into District Attorney Jang, and Ji-wook notices Bong-hee’s hand move up to her throat. Instantly guessing the truth, Ji-wook takes Bong-hee’s hand to lead her inside, throwing District Attorney Jang a filthy look in the process.
Ji-hae arrives at her office to find Yoo-jung looking pale and weak, but Yoo-jung insists on going to the trial with her, where they formally charge Hyun-soo with murder connected to a robbery. Ji-wook pleads not guilty, but Ji-hae argues that this sort of murder needs no particular motive. Ji-wook counters that it does need proof, and there’s none connecting Hyun-soo to the chef’s murder.
The law states that before someone can be convicted of murder connected with a robbery, the robbery must first be confirmed. But the supposedly stolen items have never been found, nor is Hyun-soo in possession of any unexplained money, so Ji-wook asserts that there was never a robbery to begin with.
He continues that there’s no evidence that Hyun-soo committed the murder either, and there’s something disturbing about the way Hyun-soo stifles a triumphant smile. When Ji-wook sits after making his statement, he sees Yoo-jung staring at him intently, and Bong-hee notices how uncomfortable this makes Ji-wook.
Later, Eun-hyuk arrives in the parking lot just as Ji-wook, Bong-hee, and Yoo-jung are all heading to their cars. He sees that Yoo-jung looks dazed and unsteady and starts to go to her, but he’s beaten by Ji-wook. With both Bong-hee and Eun-hyuk watching, Ji-wook offers Yoo-jung a ride home, sending Bong-hee an apologetic look before driving off.
Eun-hyuk drives Bong-hee home, and on the way she pouts that she sometimes envies girls who get sick. Eun-hyuk starts to laugh his forced laugh, but he drops it mid-chuckle when Bong-hee says he doesn’t have to do that. When he arrives home later, Eun-hyuk is crying.
Ji-wook takes Yoo-jung only as far as her building, then turns to go. She stops him with a hand on his arm and invites him in, but he gently pulls himself free. Yoo-jung says that she loved him too much, so his love never felt like enough and left her thirsty for more. But now she thinks that even if she’s thirsty, it would be worth it to have him back.
Bong-hee spends the evening haunting Ji-wook’s empty house, growing increasingly worried the later it gets. She ends up pacing outside the gate, almost frantic until she finally sees Ji-wook round the corner.
He also relaxes just a tiny bit when he sees her. Bong-hee runs and flings herself into his arms, gasping that she was scared he might not come home. Ji-wook stands stock-still, stunned, as Bong-hee whispers, “I like you.”
His hand comes up as if to return her hug, but at the last second, Ji-wook lets it fall back to his side. In a voice filled with regret, he tells Bong-hee, “Don’t like me.” His voice narrates that not all beginnings lead to something — some things stop as soon as they begin, because the beginnings are so frightening.
COMMENTS
Oof, poor Bong-hee! It’s hard enough to confess your feelings, even when they aren’t exactly a secret, but to be so thoroughly rejected is the most painful thing in the world. I do understand why Ji-wook is scared to open himself up to love, because he’s been so terribly hurt in the past, and he has the right to decide that he doesn’t want to go through that again. It’s a miracle that he acknowledges his feelings at all. But Bong-hee has done nothing to earn his distrust, and it’s too late anyway, since he’s already falling for her. He’s going to regret those words.
He can deny his feelings, but they’re so obvious that everyone can see them, and he can’t help but respond when Bong-hee needs him. I particularly loved when Ji-wook saw the bruises on Bong-hee’s throat and was instantly worried for her, but when she said she didn’t want to talk about it, he actually respected her wishes. He didn’t yell or push her, but he let her know that he was concerned and that he’s there if she changes her mind. I even thought it was sensitive of him to approach her softly and quietly — he probably knew that she’d been attacked, so coming at her with anger or aggression (even if he was feeling it towards her attacker and not her) would only scare her even more. For a guy who doesn’t know much about women, he certainly has great instincts when it comes to dealing with Bong-hee. Mostly it’s just wonderful how much he notices about her, and the way he responds to her unconscious cues without a second thought.
On the flip side of that, my positive first impression of Yoo-jung is taking a decided nosedive now that she’s showing this selfish, manipulative side. Her sense of entitlement to Ji-wook’s feelings is annoying, particularly when he’s made it clear that he wants nothing to do with her. I find her persistence very different from the way Eun-hyuk behaves around Ji-wook. Yoo-jung bailed when she screwed things up, then just reappeared when she decided she wanted Ji-wook back. She even has the nerve to imply that her cheating is his fault for not loving her enough, and if I didn’t already dislike her for hurting him, that right there sealed it.
On the other hand, Eun-hyuk stuck around, accepting Ji-wook’s hatred and anger as his rightful punishment for his betrayal. And Eun-hyuk waited for Ji-wook too call him first, only increasing his pursuit to rekindle their friendship after Ji-wook made the first move. To my mind, Eun-hyuk has consistently been more concerned with Ji-wook’s feelings than his own, taking full responsibility for what he did, while Yoo-jung is all about blaming others and is focused on what she wants. And I don’t believe for a moment that she’s sick, either — something Ji-hae said gave her “an idea for an excuse,” which just sounds like more manipulation to me.
I’m having a lot of mixed feelings about accused murderer Hyun-soo right now, because although he seems perfectly mild and innocent, there’s something about him that sets off every self-preservation siren I possess. I can’t describe what it is about him that makes me think he’s not what he seems — maybe it’s that he’s a bit too perfect? His voice is slightly too gentle and his smile is just a bit too sweet. His alibi for the day of the murder is sprinkled with a few too many tiny details (girls in the park playing with balloons, whipped cream on his coffee, candles on a birthday cake), which seem like an indication that he’s lying.
I have a theory about Hyun-soo that’s pretty wild, but the more I think about it, the more it fits with everything we’ve seen so far. (Stop reading now if you don’t want to know!) It’s obvious that Chan-ho is involved with the murders, both of Hee-joon and of the recently deceased chef. But I don’t think Chan-ho is the actual killer. Promos of the show told us that the killer has amnesia, and Chan-ho seems too sharp to be suffering from any memory loss. Conversely, Hyun-soo appeared way too happy, almost surprised, whenever he recalled a detail from the day of the murder. It’s as if remembering those details isn’t normal for him.
So my theory is that Hyun-soo is the murderer with the memory problems, and that Chan-ho, for whatever mysterious reason, is a sort of “cleaner” who goes behind Hyun-soo, hiding any evidence he may have left behind using his knowledge of forensics. It would explain the keychain that was left in Bong-hee’s office that Chan-ho picked up and that let him into the chef’s home. I think that Hyun-soo may have been the masked man in Bong-hee’s office that night, and that Chan-ho arranged to examine the office so that he could pick up the dropped keychain that he needed to get into the house to arrange the murder scene. The only things that don’t fit are the Bible verse about rapists deserving death, and why the woman who found the body freaked out and tampered with the murder scene. Like I said, it’s a crazy theory, but it’s the best I’ve got right now.

Woaaaa! What a great episode!!! I had my doubts about Ji Wooks character before, but the actor is doing such an AMAZING job portraying his strugle and hurt that I have to admit the ending scene is nothing but coherent, realistic and very well acted on both parts.
My heart went for Bong He bc the rejection is sooo obvious, I really felt sorry for her. She shouldnt have rushed it like that but then again, her personality is just like that and thats why we like her.
Im wondering now where do ee go from here after his rejection, very difficult to predict..
And I agree with LollyPip, Ji Wook totally sensed something smells really bad with Hyun soo..
Eun Hyuk's progressing relationship with Bong Hee, Im really enjoying this too, how she really gets him and tells him he doesnt need to pretend with her. He broke my heartvtoday
Such an amazing show, cant wait till Wednesday :)

That ending! My poor heart. I hope it'll turn out funny again just like the time JW told her they should never cross paths again. Another feeefeee moment?
But I really feel for BH....why she couldn't control her feelings for JW anymore. But I was saddened that he didn't show much emotions toward her when she confessed. I think his heart is very sore and raw after hearing what his ex told him.
Remember he told BH that it's normal for people to blame themselves when their partners cheat? Much as he wants to hink differently, he's likely feeling the sting...that his "inadequate love" for his ex was somehow a problem leading to the cheating. Until he sorts that out, he won't be able to move on.
But...the saddest part of this episode was knowing how close the 3 of them were. I think YJ was used to getting her way with the guys...and that accounts for her shamelessness. I thought she was very demanding in the way she asked JW to date her at the start of their relationship. Probably why she thinks JW should have her back in his life despite what has happened. Don't like her much but don't detest her either. She is just...too diva.
I started out feeling odd about EH, thinking he was insincere toward JW but now, I so want to give him a hug.
Loving chief Bang and CEO Byun. Loving the funny office bickerings.

So true,the way she asked ji wook to date her ...it has something make me uneasy Like she used to gain what she want with a power she had on him ,"date me or never see me..."

Idk why, but this episode just had this sad, melancholic tone overall? I especially loved that quiet scene between Ji-wook and Bong-hee, when he stepped into her room and checked on her. There wasn't much spoken between them, but man, JCW and NJH's acting really spoke volumes in that moment.
I take back what I said about Yoo-jung, she's definitely selfish and manipulative like what @lollypip said in the recap. She knew what act to put on in front of Ji-wook and Eun-hyuk, but it's good that both guys know better now.
As for Bong-hee, aww, I feel for her. Seems like she can't catch a break, but she's one tough cookie who will recover from this hopefully short heartbreak. I can't wait for Ji-wook to realize what an idiot he is to not reciprocate, teehee.

I love the scene where BH and JW were in the room alone too. They didn't say much, but every word they said was so precious and showed how sensitive and respectful JW was of BH's feelings. And how BH didn't want to worry JW with her issues. That scene was daebak!

I have been feeling this "melancholic tone"from the 2-3 episode!!!!! On the other hand, I feel the same (even more with Chicago Typewriter) and I even felt it with "fight my way", which have just startet!
conclusion: it must be me. ?
But since you also noticed it... I will start to read evaluate it.
Personally, in this drama, I feel the melancholy throughoutly from JW. Ironically, BH was the one accused of murder, being empoverished and rejected, and yet she is cheerful and she fights to retain dignity and endure.

You're not alone! I'm watching the same dramas and I'm going through way too many feels than normal.
I think Chicago Typewriter definitely sets that melancholic tone, given all the longing and wondering about what happened in the 1930s story. The writing and acting also come feel more in-depth and smooth when compared to other dramas I' e seen, they just know how to tug your heart in the right moments.
And for Fight My Way, you go through the resignation and disappointment of the characters living the lives they didn't necessarily plan for themselves. It's easy to relate to that, especially if you've gone through missed opportunities and failed dreams, which I'm sure we all have had at one point. There are cute and funny scenes of course, but I feel the undercurrent of sadness too.

Yes... for me it is exactly the case. I have finally graduated in a master that was promising but ended up in dissappointment, I have made mistakes... I am not in a happy marriage, and I always had the dream to be a writer. There is where Chicago comes in. I have written many things, but never published, because well... for that you need money or need to appeal to the public.
I love writing about the XIX Century, but in the last years never had time to research enough, in order to portray a decent and believable XIX-Century(ish) background...
Anyway... In regard to the new dramas, I am not attracted to the plots, so i will stick with these three ones, and then, if nothing better comes in Dramaland, I will take vacations!!! heh he he he he hehehe heh

I believe Hyun-soo will stick around our couple as an indirect key in both their relationship and the crime mystery. The smiles he shot at BE was really bothering me, whether they were out of interest or evil plans. Who knows, maybe he will the one to bring up JW's jealousy and love to the point of confession~kk
Also about the betrayal, I first thought that EK approached YJ, but now it seems more of a seduction on her side. (considering how she said they both hate her)

JY is puzzling to me also. How much love/attention /passion whatever does she need to be satisfied?
We've seen JW be a caring, attentive friend to BH and he doesn't even have the history with her that he had with JY. I hope they show us some backstory from JY's perspective like they did with EH. It would be a waste of a character if she ends up a bitchy diva second lead.

I love all the characters, but Bong Hee/Nam Ji Hyun is so extra special.
I love the way she reacted when she was caught exiting her room and the way her pupils shift when she lied about her relationship with JW. And i love how JW is falling in love with her. How could you not? She has a gorgeous smile and is caring, strong, brave, and sassy.
I feel like this is the first episode where we get JW looking at BH as much as she looks at him.

It was really hard to watch the district attorney go after Bong-hee, and then to see her flinch when they crossed paths again. It's all the more motivation for her to catch the actual criminal(s), but it's not the good kind of motivation. At least Ji-wook was by her side. Ji-wook was so soft and gentle and understanding with Bong-hee in the aftermath. That scene melted my heart. So good.
I can't help but giggle when Chief Bang smiles and that specific sound effect accompanies it.
Eun-hyuk's sunny facade contrasted with when he returns home alone, especially that last part where he started crying, really got to me. He just needs hugs and love! (but not from Yoo-jung)

Also, yeah, I totally don't want Eun-hyuk to have any sort of loveline with Yoo-jung down the line. Let him find someone new if he gets any romance at all, otherwise just give him bromance!
He may have deserved his punishment, but I think he also deserves someone who'll truly love and care after him. And Yoo-jung clearly isn't it.

This may be off the wall and is pure blind speculation, but, I wonder if part of the reason Ji-Wook is so hurt is because it was just a hook up (as far as we've seen, anyway). Like, he's been utterly, devastatingly betrayed by the two people who mean the most to him for what? A random romp in the hay? He didn't mean more to either of them than that? Maybe he would have had a better-easier-more understandable time of it if there had been actual feelings? We know that Eun-hyuk did have real feelings that he tried to suppress but so far it seem Yoo-jung was just a selfish jerk.
I sooo do not want Eun-hyuk with Yoo-jung. I just wonder if it would have been easier for Ji-wook if that had been the case.

I don't think Ji-wook rejected Bong-hee. It sounded more like a warning to me; a warning to Bong-hee not to like him for x- reason. I don't blame Ji-wook or Bong-hee. *grumbles*. *growls*. You know who I blame? Yoo-jung. I may have respected her if she didn't go off about her thirstyness and shit. At least Eun-hyuk regrets it! I'm sorry to say this, but Yoo-jung is the baddest bitchyest ex I've come across in dramaland. Nuff said. (nothing on the actress of course, whom I love so far)

i love this drama so far..story is not something new but it kinda feel fresh maybe because the actor?
and im kinda minority here.But I Like YJ so far because yeah i know she is selfish and unthoughtful but there is something that make me can't hate her idk :v i think in the furure she will not ruin our couple and hope she can learn.....
And Guyss..did anyone look carefully in their rain scene?..Because i notice that the rain only located in the actor..but at one moment camera start have different angle there is no rain in front of them and people walk in normal way and there is no rain hahahahaha i cringe xD..like i want it to be real but somehow small detail like that make me remembered that this is Fake and they are only doin their job -_-

These episodes were so good! Well worth the pain of checking and re-checking to see if subs were nearly complete. The emotional high points - Bong Hee on the ground struggling to recover from her encounter with Chief Prosecutor Jang, Ji Wook gently, but persistantly examining Bong Hee's neck, Eun Hyuk holding in his pain upon seeing his long time friend/crush for the first time in years and she bearly acknowledges him as a person, Ji Wook sneaking appreciative looks as Bong Hee while they wait out the rain, and Eun Hyuk's sad "I wish I could get over you" tear were just as poignant when I immediately rewatched it.
I had hoped at the beginning of the episode Ji Wook might show his interest in Bong Hee openly. That hope was dashed on the rocks of Yoo Jung, unsuprisingly according to the formula for second female drama leads. Poor Bong Hee is now totally and hopelessly exposed. It will be so painful to her if Ji Wook starts treating her differently because of her failed confession.
Eun Hyuk and Bong Hee will have to form a rejected lover alliance to keep each others spirits up. They can be comfortable and honest with each other as everything is already out in the open.

This was the best episode for me... Too many feelings over the course of 1 hour!
Just a few thoughts though - firstly after watching the past few episodes (especially during he flashback confession scene) it seemed like JW ended up with YJ out of "not wanting to lose his friend". He just didn't seem... fully sincere about it when he said he would date her. Although I think that later on the betrayal hit him harder because they were both his best friends. Additionally, maybe that's why she felt that he didn't love her enough while they were together - she did ask him out first anyway (But I still don't like her as a character and no I totally disagree with her actions and words over the course of the past few eps). It just seems like his "love" is more familial than actual "love" per se to me at the moment at least.
Also I really empathised with BH during the assault scene with the DA and the closing shot (those last 5 minutes felt so true to life); JH is a really good actress! Loved the petty scenes as well with JW although the guy appears quite repressed to me LOL; he just explodes when it gets too much for him

With all the studying for tests and whatnot, I have resorted to these recaps, so thank you to all those who write them. I'll probably always be one of the later entries. As for the actual episode, I feel so bad for Bong Hee who was rejected by Ji Wook. The looks he gives her are very sweet and sincere especially during that scene in the rain. I think he does like her but because of his past, he can't let it fully go yet. The relationship between all of them is a little messy, but my heart hurts for Eun Hyuk the most. He has to fake laugh through everything so he can stay by his best friend's side. After that incident, it seems like he is resigning himself to this punishment with Ji Wook ignoring him. Also, that Hyun Soo does look iffy. The theory with him being the murderer and Chan Ho being the one to clean up behind him makes sense. But, what do I know, everything looks a little suspicious.

I liked the theory. It explains why they focused on the murderer's shoes at the murder scene: inside the house, his shoes were white, but when the forensic guy enters and leaves the house, his shoes are black. Maybe the two of them are relatives?

Bong Hee! Why did you confess? You've been through a lot and you don't need a rejection.
I cried when he didn't push her to tell him and just satisfied just knowing she's ok. I've been not able to understand why DA Jang would not want to believe BH, but at least know he told her that he needs someone to blame.

Thanks for the recap Lollypip. I kind of like your theory very much, because I also had that weird feeling with Hyun-soo, and Chang ho, on his part, looks smart and creepy enough to have amnesia.
Now, if they set free Hyun-soo, he will keep on killing people. But why?

I wasn't going to like Eun-hyuk, let alone forgive him for breaking Ji-Wook's heart. But.This.Episode! I wasn't going to like him no matter how cute he was but then he had to go and look so desperately heartbroken when Yoo-jung met him after 2 years of absence only to talk about her problems and Ji-Wook! She didn't even freaking ask him how he was after she screwed up his whole life and left him to fix his friendship with Wookie!
I hate when people automatically fix the blame on the woman during any affair, either as the seducer or the seducee. But in this case the majority of the blame lies squarely on Yoo-jung's shoulders! Knowing how much Eun-hyuk loves Wookie, and how hard he tried to keep his feelings to himself, I have a feeling that Yoo-jung asked him to sleep with her, if only by telling him her feelings for Wookie had changed and maybe transferred to Yoo-jung. Because I don't see any other way this man would have knowingly jeopardized his relationship with his two best friends! And that's why he was so heartbroken over the fact that she literally does not care about him.
Aghhhhhhhhhhhhh that single tear rolling down the face did me in. I will hunt anyone who tries to hurt Yoo-jung now!

I think she invited Eun Hyuk over to vent her dissatisfaction with her relationship and get comforted. "My boyfriend doesn't understand me/give me what I need." She must have had at least a glimmer of his one sided love and knew he would be sympathetic and tender. To entice the only other person important to your boyfriend over to your side must have been a perverse triumph.
While I think Eun Hyuk didn't meet her intending to betray his friend, he got caught up in the opportunity to act on his feelings for her.

Seriously though, I wonder whether she ever valued either of their friendships at all if she was able to do this? She even told Ji-wook when she confessed all those years ago, "Do you want to date me or never see me again?" As far as I'm concerned, a proposition like that is like saying you want to be less of a friend, rather than more than one and she certainly proved that with her actions. Eun-hyuk, too, was someone she was fine throwing completely aside at first.

As I was watching that scene that's all I was thinking: how many times in the past did this exact scene play out? Ji-wook is working/studying/doing something other than worshiping at her altar and she goes to Eun-hyuk for comfort and understanding and he gives it to her because he loves her as a woman and he loves her as his friend. And because he's friends with both of them (and was probably reluctant to talk about himself since his feelings would go spilling out) he could give her advice and the comfort that she sought. And one day it went too far....? Or she seduced his pants off for emotionally manipulative reasons of her own.

Thanks for the recap!!! I noticed that Bong-hee affects Ji-wook and Eun-hyuk in interesting ways. Ji-wook wakes up or becomes animated because of her, and I love seeing the way JCW plays those differences. He's animated, alive, aware when there's something involving her; otherwise, he's back to being dead on his feet. Bong-hee has the opposite effect on Eun-hyuk. He can finally stop pretending to be chipper; he doesn't have to hide the hurt from his mistake under a thick veneer of nonsense, whimsy. He also is Mr. Perfect, except for that one HUGE mistake. Not that his mistake is to be trivialized; yes, he seems to have made one mistake, but it is a doozie! Wow to Eun-hyuk for sticking around, as I hate to admit that I would probably have run away like Yoo-jung ( but I don't think I'd have the huevos to come back -- that's just crazy). I was so happy when Bong-hee told him in the car that not to laugh, and how he was the guy to power down and let out his emotions he's been so good at hiding for so long in front of others. Gah, this show is another great one so far! I know I've gushed a lot about several shows of late, but they're all so good! If this keeps up, I'm going to remember 2017 fondly as a great drama year, like connoisseurs remember excellent wines.

Thank you for the review, LollyPip. I've been waiting to read it since the last episode's aired. I also have the same feeling regarding the murderer, because something's off with the way Hyun Soo looks at Bong Hee. Ji Wook notices this also, I think.
What I love from this episode is Ji Wook concerns towards Bong Hee and actually respects her decision not to tell him about the strangled mark on her neck. It's so obvious he cares so much about Bong Hee.
I think he realizes his feeling towards Bong Hee is more than a friend and it frightens. He's hurted so bad in the past and he doesn't want to experience the whole same thing ever again. Especially when the ex-girlfriend (that I used to think was so cool turns out to be a selfish ex) told him that the reason she cheated on him was because she didn't think she received enough love from him. At this point, she makes Ji Wook is blaming himself again for what happened in the past. How dare she!
All in all, I can't wait for next episode and since there's no preview I have to suck it up and keep rewatching my fav scenes ?

I caught on what you said about Hyun-soo and Chan-ho. I suspected these two are related, likely siblings. Hyun-soo is the one who did the killing and Chan-ho is coming to scene later to clean up the mess.

Ah, these recaps are a joy to read right after watching the episode...
I completely agree with everything, just everything, that has been said here.
I see a lot of YJ hate in the comments, and I don't even know if I agree or not.
I hate what she did and I hate what she's like, but as far as second leads go, I kind of love how interesting she is.
She's so selfish and manipulative, but most of it seems to stem from plain old emotional immaturity - she's not malicious, she's just childish. That, along with how well she and BH got along in the beginning, gives me hope that she'll eventually realize the weight of her actions and become a good friend to them all.
(Not to mention she's the only prosecutor in the main cast, and somebody needs to eventually prosecute the real killer. Logically, it would be YH, though I guess JH, with her apparent passion to catching the killer of HJ, would do just as well - or she might just become a proper villain under HJ's dad's wing.)
What also bugs me is her lack of general RESPECT.
JW here, an actual person falling in actual love, backed off when BH didn't want to talk about something - he made his general feelings on the subject clear in a gentle manner and then did as she asked. Meanwhile, YJ keeps pushing and pushing, using sneaky tactics and excuses and generally being so self-centered it makes me a little bit sick sometimes.
I had to pause the episode for a proper laugh when YJ said she "loved JW too much", because she clearly knows nothing about what love's like if she thinks that. Yeah, sure, you loved him so much you cheated on him, you loved him so much you blamed him for your decision, you loved him so much you're harassing him now against his clear wishes.
"Love". And again, the childishness of it pops out to me. Both her "love" and the way she behaves around people she's comfortable with reeks of immaturity. I'm going to take a chance and place a bet on YJ coming from a well-off household where she got whatever she desired. It's the only way I can explain the way she believes she has a right to everything and everybody.
I can't wait to see her proven wrong.
Also I'm so glad I'm far from the only one who found HS terrifying - though I just figured he was falling for BH (his defender in shining pantsuit), or maybe he was a criminal in some other way (the oddly detailed way he pointed out the kids with the balloons, combined with the smiles, raised some flags in my head, idk). I even considered the possibility that CH was an assassin and he hired him to kill the chef because the girl who was raped was his gf or fiance or smth.
But I actually find the theory about HS being the amnesiac killer and CH just being a forensics guy clearing his tracks to be pretty probable. I'm calling family relations - brothers or smth? And correct me if I'm wrong, but we haven't actually seen HS kill anybody, right? It's the creepy smiles and behaviour that raised all the...

I agree with you about YJ. I think she grew up somewhat self-centered and perhaps we'll get to see her character grow later. I don't think she'll be able to end up with EH the current childish way she is. I also think the 4 of them will nail the murderer down the road. Something about her, the way she fight the thieves and how she felt about Bh, makes me feel like she a fair person in so far the law is concerned.

I agree with both of these statements. I was leaning towards Yoo-jung as an only child, or the only girl in a family of brothers or any of the other cliches that people hand wave for when a woman is well and truly spoiled and self centered. Even her first reaction after learning about Bong-hee wasn't that he's seeing someone else but that she (Yoo-jung) likes her! While I'm pretty sure I don't want her stickin' around Ji-woo, Bong Hee, and Eun-hyuk a part of me wants her to become a part of their friend group (just friends. No loveline with her and Eun-hyuk) and see how she reacts to another woman in the group. One who's loved just as much if not more than she is/was. There would be so many tantrums and petty meltdowns!

She actually is more interesting than the typical second lead because, while her words and actions have been insensitive, she really is just very emotionally immature. I see some are mad at njw for rejecting bung hee but i think thats quite normall for him to reject her i mean if it was the opposite it woud look too easy and also early . Wouldnt u question how he could easily accept her after his history. I mean they guy is going through a serious trauma how he can easilylet it go. I think thats how most of us would react if we were in his shoues. Bung hee has had lots of problems too but his problems are rooted in his childhood and also hid mom i believe as i have read something about it. His close friend is regretful for what he did to him but how can he jst let it go jst like that even if he is really regretfull. He wil always have that fear of being betrayed. It is right that bung hee has done nth wrong but his best friends were also like that once too. Im not saying she is like them or he doesnt trust her but i think he needed more time before she confessed to him. Thats why njw is my fav in this show. I feel he is the most layerd one. Others have dimensions too and i like quite all but he stands out for me

If YJ and EH were both equally guilty of betraying JW, why is YJ the only one being ostracised? JW mentioned earlier that he cannot cut ties with EH because all 3 of them were childhood friends and were there for him in difficult times. But both he and EH seem to be cutting YJ off. Did she do something else that we don't know about yet or are they just mad she ran off?

Bong-hee is a big part of the reason Eun-hyuk is a part of Ji-wook's life right now. He was just as ostracized as Yoo-jin, but simply made more effort to see Ji-wook before. It wasn't until BH's trial that JW reached out to EH for the first time and then eventually, after losing that trial, he ended up at the same law firm with him. The fact is, though, all this time spent by JW's side is bound to have some effect because he's simply been there. He's shown with his actions how much he cares. Basically, they both betrayed him. But their actions in the aftermath were very different, and that's why EH has earned a very tentative place by JW's side at the new firm.

Forgot to say that I completely agree with lollypip's theory about Hyun-soo. As I said, I thought that might be their relationship, but I hadn't completely thought it through with the amnesia yet. Probably because I still find the mechanics of the possible amnesia to be confusing? For example, does he only suffer short-term memory loss when he murders? Why has he shown no signs of missing memories since? If they're a team that means his Chan-ho could have provided the details of what he did and saw on the day of the murder.
Ha! I just realized...if this theory pans out, that makes them the real 'Suspicious Partners', lol!

My absolute favorite scene was when Ji-Wook was sending Bong-Hee by herself - until Eun Hyuk said he would go and it cut to Ji-Wook in the car. Laughed so hard.

I love how Bong-hee refused to be the secretary in that new office. Nobody deserves to work more than his/her jobdesk unless both parties agree and wrote it in the contract. I wish I could be her so those power abuses in my workplace could shut their mouth and leave me work based on my ability and the position I'm assigned to, not using me to finish the tasks I'm not supposed to work on.

Sigh! Ji Chang Wook and his intense gaze, those small smiles and hand holding... double sigh!
My heart broke for Eun Hyuk! He's been keeping a happy and jolly front all these years when deep inside he's been harboring hurt and angry feelings. He knew that what he did was bad and that it led to Ji Wook and Yoo Jung's break-up. What he did was deplorable, yes, but it was because he loved Yoo Jung too much and I guess he wanted to hurt Ji Wook also for taking away his chance at having a relationship with Yoo Jung. Yes, yes, Ji Wook had no idea of his friend's one-sided love and I guess that hurt Eun Hyuk the most since he kept seeing his two friends happily in love while he was feeling betrayed and left out inside.
Despite knowing that what he did was wrong, he couldn't let go of Ji Wook because Eun Hyuk treasured their friendship more than his love for Yoo Jung. I'm happy that he chose to ignore Yoo Jung and telling her that he'd prefer their encounters to be chance meetings instead of purposely seeking each other out.
Now, I'm not sure if his teary reaction when he got home was because he still loved Yoo Jung and felt bad that he still had to let her go even if she's already single now. But I guess it was more of him feeling guilty and frustrated that he was the reason why their friendship fell apart and why his two good friends had to separate. Although Yoo Jung can be blamed for that too since she shouldn't have cheated on Ji Wook in the first place.
Anyway, sorry for the long post. Can't wait to see just how Ji Wook and Bong Hee's relationship will progress in the coming episodes.

Ji-Wook and Eun-Hyuk are kind of giving me Jealousy Incarnate Lee Hwa Shin and Ko Jung Won feels. I loved the friendship between those two men. One of my favorite scenes is when they are fighting (one of the many times they are fighting) Ko Jung Won takes a break and asks if they are still best friends and Lee Hwa Shin yells, "of course!" and the ending when a choice is finally made the one who didn't end up with Pyo-Na Ri said that he just loved his friend more (than her).
I think Eun-hyuk *thought* he loved Yoo-Jung but after their affair/encounter/whatever he realized that he didn't or that he loved/valued his friendship with Ji-Wook more than trying to build something with a woman who would betray them both that way (both: Ji-wook, obviously, Eun-hyuk: by taking advantage of his feelings for her).

I was thinking the same thing. Subway has taken a back seat of late in the PPL department! The difference for me is that I LOVE their pizza, which just encourages more orders from me than normal.

I really don't understrand what the deal with the father is ??? I wonder how this is going to end when he finds out that Bong Hee isn't the actual murderer. I'm not going too accept just an apology - he has someone constantly following her and now he strangles and threatens her ?

Also, although it's quite early on, I'm sad that Ji wook rejected Bong hee.. maybe it's too early for romance to start, but the chemistry between the characters was really blossoming )x WHY DID HE HAVE TO TAKE YOO JUNG HOMEE -- so many questions qwq ... and now... we have to wait for another week for more episodes to come out x_x
I'm so glad every episode has been so entertaining -- I haven't gotten bored of this series yet (lol)

I think the woman that freaked out did it to protect her face. She doesn't want the world to know she was raped. Or she might have done it to avoid the cook from being called a rapist. I mean he is a celebrity. But whatever happened isn't it funny that, if hyun soo is the real murderer, the real murderer himself got caught!!

The character that I dislike is Yoo Jung because she thinks that Ji Wook and Eun Hyunk should forget and behave like nothing happened.
It hurts when Ji Wook rejected Bong Hee.

(Hello all, I've been a lurker for the past few months on this site, but I really need to squeal a bit/a lot about this drama!!)
The show honestly takes me through such a roller-coaster of emotions and it's killing meeee. This is only my second time watching a show while it's still airing and I never realized it could be so painful... :'( Though I watched SWDBS while it aired, I didn't feel nearly as invested.
So much happened this episode but the last scene honestly killed me ahhhhhh. JW's trembling hand as he fought with himself whether to hug her back or not really got to me. Plus, even though I knew JW wouldn't really get back with his ex (at least I hope not...), I still felt just as nervous as BH did about him coming back so late! His voiceover about being scared of beginnings both saddened me and encouraged me - he's clearly still hurting over his past, but it gave me hope that BH would be the one who would help him overcome that and start over :)
Ugh, I'm losing sleep over this drama and it's clearly not healthy for my heart either!! But I just can't get enough. Sigh, why must this drama do this to me?

Oh. My. Goodness. Y'all I am so sick of DA Yang. Sick of him! He needs to quit putting his hands on people! I'm sorry his son was murdered--he was scum but he didn't deserve it--but that doesn't mean his jerk of a father can wander the streets choking people! It seems like every time we see him he's putting his hands on someone and someone needs to kick him in front a moving vehicle. Then he can be reunited with his soon and out of the freaking way. Over him, completely.

I'm thinking that perhaps there are actually 3 deaths now, including the body the suspect was disposing. But only 2 were all related to each other and the ex was incidental. It was obvious that the woman knows the passage and wanted to hide it, so I was thinking that the suspect is actually targeting a specific group of people, not randomly.

At first I had (the wrong) idea that wanting to hide the murder because it would point to the victim being not-a-good-guy himself, was a clue to why the District Attorney was so intent on laying blame on Bong Hee; ie, to hide something bad about his son. However, that seems to not be the case after all and he's just a lout in a position of power.

I was too focus with the romance plot that I forgot to even have my own hypothesis about the murder and all. I am just actually going with the flow on what the drama is showing as of now with regards to the killer. lol. The way Ji Wook looks at Bong Hee in the rain scene! I would gladly be in the position of Bong Hee on that moment. ??

I have a suspicion about who is the killer and it seems to be out of step with everyone else, so I don't want to say. But I have been going back and forth trying to look at the ears of the different men. Ears are very distinctive and they let us have a good look at the killers ears. I wish I knew how to do those screen captures.
Anyhow, I would just like to point out that whoever killed HJ meant to kill him. He was not killed accidentally instead of BH. HJ was killed as soon as he entered the apartment. The killer must have been watching him enter and, thus, had plenty of time to be fully aware of who he was planning to kill.
I feel like Hyun Soo is a red herring, but if he isn't and if did kill HJ, he may have felt he had done her a favor and that she should defend him as payback.
Okay, I'll be brave and say I suspect EH is the killer and he really doesn't realize it.

Such an interesting theory! Anything is possible at this stage. They made sure to cast enough actors of approximately the same proportions in this show so that the killer's size and silhouette could match more than one character. Red herrings galore!!!

There is the fugue state. It is one of dissociative disorders and lasts only a short time. It is rare, but TV takes advantage of all sorts of rare medical conditions. ;-)
At this point I'm sort of afraid for JW. If it is EH and if he has interpreted JW taking YJ home as a betrayal of BH, then JW may be attacked in the next few episodes.
I'll see how well-founded this fear is soon!

That's actually a really interesting theory! I kind of had something similar in mind towards the end of this episode. Also, as I was watching the part where Bong Hee's office was broken into my dad was watching along, and when I commented that Chan Ho probably was the murderer, my dad straight away replied that his posture was different from the person who broke in.
The only thing that really bothered me this episode was the painting with the bible reference... Did the woman who discovered the body hide it? Because I can't in my wildest fantasies imagine a robber writing a reference like that on a painting. And who was the woman? Considering the bible verse, could it be she was going to marry Hyun Soo, and the Chef had some relationship with her? But then what could the motive for the first murder and the murder in Bong Hee's apartment be? Even if the murder in her apartment was just to get rid of a witness, there are a few thing that don't make sense. Like, didn't he see it was a woman watching? And why murder someone who was just on his way into the apartment and most likely not the witness?
Anyway, I feel like it would make sense that Chan Ho isn't the murderer, sinse we're not even half way inthe drama...

My impression was he is acting as a vigilante on his own crusade. He killed that lady's husband or partner, and she erased the evidence of the murder victim's wrongdoing and fabricated a scene that implied the murder was connected to a robbery.

When the episode started with the text/title "The beginning that has not begun" I was so full of hope that the romance would officially begin, but I forgot it is only halfway through the series, and too soon to expect it, and anyway, it's more fun to see Ji Wook trying desperately to keep denying his feelings for a while more, while demonstrating them clearly to everyone else.
I felt disappointed in Yoo Jung... I too had high hopes that she'd be more than just a tiresome second lead, only around to put spokes in the wheel of the true romance, however, if her character continues on the path it has started, that's not likely. I found it so appalling that she actually laid blame to Ji Wook, that she was not satisfied with his love, and was always thirsty for more, as if that justified her betrayal with his best friend.
The interactions of our "broman-tic" team of guys is wonderful in this show. I laughed every time Byun complained about losing business and Eun Hyuk confidently assured him that he'd bring in the money. I like Chief Bang's knowing looks and find that his smile totally lights up the screen. And it's these guys being their childish unruly selves that sets Ji Wook off to being hilariously high-handed and petty. So much fun!
I do like that this show is able to balance out the good-guys shenanigans and humour with a pretty compelling murder mystery. I find LollyPip, that your theory, about the murder and the possible roles of Hyun Soo and Chan Ho, not bad at all. There was definitely something about the way Hyun Soo behaved that evoked a sense of unease. Kudos to the actor who managed to make a pleasant, mild-mannered character appear ominous.
I feel for Ji Wook... once again a female he is easy-going with and rather likes, is making the first move by saying she likes him. It's one of the most difficult things walking the knife edge of wanting to be secure and wanting to give and receive love. I guess we'll have to watch him teetering on that edge for a bit longer.

God, I'm scared of what is Ji Chang-wook doing to me. I mean, I do love other actors, so many of them, had a lot of kdrama crushes in my day (currently: Park Hae-jin and Yoo Seung-ho's eyes), but there is something about Ji, that just disarms me completely. And it's not simply about his looks, though daaaamn he's smokin' hot. I fell for him so hard during Healer, it's crazy. Then in The K2, I thought I was over my crush. I still enjoyed him in that role, but the drama itself was a mess and he wasn't given the opportunity to show all he's got, so I wasn't really satisfied. And now this drama came. I became a mess, I swoon my heart out all the time, just by looking at him. This role is so perfect for him, he can finally show exactly how great he is; he can show his hundred and one expressions (!), his body language, his gaze, the chemistry he has with his co-stars (not only women)... I could go on for ages.
I was initially a little bit sad that his melo was out of the window, but now I couldn't care less. If this is his last role before enlisting, then I will be forever grateful to the drama gods for making it happen. I'll say it again: he is perfect in this role.
I'm sorry for blabbering about Ji Chang-wook like this, but I had to get it out of my system somewhere; and who will understand me if not you, my fellow Beanies? Do you have somebody that makes your heart race a little bit more than the other actors? Somebody special in this vast, filled with pretty, swoony and sexy, drama world?

Me me me...I understand...totally. Heck I even liked him in K2 and get upset when others berate the show. It's not great but it was entertaining! Well, many people who watched it without knowing who Is JCW yold me they liked it.
But I'm so happy he's receiving so much love in this role. He's too adorable and swoony. I felt like BH the whole time he appeared on my screen. And when he asked BH not to fall for him, I felt like he was telling me. LOL!

There are many, many gentlemen that are too talented and pretty for words. I wind up blabbering about them to my sister (whom I dragged into k-dramaland with only a little bit of tugging), but sometimes get carried away here, too. My favorites change a lot, but always on my list are: Lee Jong-seok, Jo Jung-seok, Yoo Ah-in (soooo intense), Song Joong-ki,... the list is actually really long. I should probably stop now before my brain implodes.

Just a thought on JW's reaction to seeing the bruises on BH's throat. Your comment was that he sure knew how to handle women for not knowing much about them. My thought is that perhaps he knows how to handle victims since he was a prosecutor. Also, i am concerned that this illness that YJ supposedly had was feigned, and EH was so upset because maybe that is the same ploy she used on him way back when.

Oh, I was one of the ones who didn't think Yoo-jung was faking, but I do wonder whether you're on to something with Eun-hyuk. Whether she was faking or not, it's possible that a similar instance led to him taking her home and taking care of her before she instigated more between them that night.

Agreed. I felt their emotions and distress so vividly.
I also thought Eun-hyuk was great in that earlier scene with Nara. He captured so many emotions all at once: surprise, love/longing, disappointment, pain, and regret, before finally telling her not to meet with him & resigning himself to his misery. I've never been this impressed with Choi Tae-joon before, though I've always thought him promising. Now I kind of want to check out his Missing Nine performance for kicks!
