Queen for a week, heartbreak to last a lifetime

Posters are here for Seven Day Queen! The new KBS historical romance tells the story of legendary ill-fated lovers King Jungjong and Queen Dangyeong of Joseon, who were forced apart after only seven days together as king and queen. For their sake and ours, I hope their courtship was a little longer than their marriage. Yeon Woo-jin (Introverted Boss) and Park Min-young (Remember–Son’s War) star as the royal couple due for heartbreak, along with Lee Dong-gun (Laurel Tree Tailors) as Yeonsangun, the hero’s half-brother and the other king who will be in love with the heroine.

The posters introduce our three leading characters and their part in the love triangle: Park Min-young plays Shin Chae-kyung, aka Lady Shin and the future Queen Dangyeong, the daughter of the most powerful politician in Joseon. She’s a carefree young woman who dreams of an ordinary life, but she’ll fall in love with a prince and end up caught in a political battle between their families. Her poster’s tagline reads: “I received a heart I should not have received.”

Yeon Woo-jin is Lee Yeok, future King Jungjong, a prince who must live quietly so as not to challenge his half-brother Yeonsangun’s volatile temper or his position as king. His poster reads: “For you, I will obtain the world.” It seems that he’s determined to become king so that he can be with the woman he loves… Nobody burst his bubble and tell him how the story ends!

Lee Dong-gun plays Lee Yung, infamous tyrant King Yeonsangun who ordered bloody purges of scholars and basically turned the palace into his pleasure grounds. In this drama he’ll be part of the central love triangle, and his inability to win Chae-kyung’s heart will become an obsession for him. His poster reads, “I cannot permit that love,” and the look in his eyes is downright haunting.

Seven Day Queen airs Wednesdays and Thursdays and premieres (soon!) on May 31. Is it weird to be this excited for epic heartache and pain?

Oh no, the posters are so achingly beautiful. Thank you for reminding me how regal and exquisite PMY looks in hanbok. She's gorgeous.
I'll be in for an emotional roller-coaster ride. I can't resist heartache if it is well-done and beautifully presented.

The concept looks a bit like the MDBC character posters except with the teary eyes and intense gaze. This is from KBS so is it from the same team as well?

Strangely, I'm in the mood for heartbreaking romance (maybe because I've marathoned lots of romcom this past few weeks)
Ruler and Queen For 7D are exactly what I'm looking for ?

I'm guessing SDQ is using the same promo team. Lol even the costumes remind me of Moonlight. Yeon Woo-jin's gauzy green hanbok is something Yeong would wear.

I've noticed all three have mint green somewhere on their outfits. Does the stylist love mint green or does it signify something?

It's probably the stylist. It's kind of similar to the Moonlight couple's matching attire but different colors.

I thought the same but the strategy is to put MDBC first then this drama bcoz of publicity. If show 2 drama maybe the rating divide to 2

I fall more and more in love with this drama the more promos are released. KBS is so knocking it out of the park with their teasers that it's hard to keep my expectations in check.

Please, please, please be good, show!

Order from OPS quickly.

Don't bother packing one, just wait until you're there and step in front of a bicyclist. From watching K-Dramas, I can guarantee you that a hot oppa will appear, whirl you out of danger, and into his arms. (And I'm coming too. What airline are we booking?)

8

@lezah lol I was going to say what @Wag_a_Muffin has already said! There will be plenty to Oppas there already! Just make sure we are dressed as Candy. ?

3

I'm doing this in Oct!!! I have it all planned! According to @noelle if you dress up in a hanbok you can get into Changdeokgung Palace free. You can rent the hanbok from around the palace.

I've decided I'm dressing up and my son is too. only left to convince my husband. ?

Every character looks amazing and on point for the drama. Gorgeous gorgeous gorgeous!

Thanks to @maryxiah and @noelle I'm actually considering watching this despite the fact that I'm going in knowing that my heart is going to be stomped on. And I usually avoid sad endings like the plague.

But seriously, the promo materials for this show are almost too amazing to ignore. I'm sorry my heart (and tear ducts), please prepare to be broken (and overused)!

I don't mind sadness and bawling along with the heartbroken characters...but saeguks usually manage to me make me mad and agitated only, which makes it easy to drop them really fast- LOL.

Thanks, girlfriday. These are indeed gorgeous posters. The hanbok are stunning. Yeon Woo-jin's sage green and light yellow outfit is droolworthy. I like the contrasting mulberry waist cord, which seems to be cinched more tightly than I'm used to seeing. (Because the ministers and scholars in REBEL are all portly ahjussis?) At any rate, very snazzy.

Aside from all this nifty haberdashery, it sounds as if we're in for the Montagues and the Capulets do Joseon, minus the suicides. Plus we have the Third Literati Purge of 1519 to look forward to. Time to load up on tissues.

*buys tissues in bulk to share* I am ready to cry (lol). I am happy with the way Rebel ended, and I loved Jewel in the Palace... so I'd like to watch a drama that explains the intrigues and heartache of Jungjong's early reign. This will be a good follow-up drama to Rebel, though at the moment I can't picture anyone but Kim Ji Suk playing Yeonsangun.

Hanboks look beautiful, as everyone has commented, but I for one am praying that the music will be equally amazing. As we saw in Rebel, having the right soundtrack enhances the quality of a drama. :)

I agree, WishfulToki. As I was hoping from Writer-nim, REBEL turned out to be a great show, and segueing into QUEEN FOR SEVEN DAYS right after it is a natural.

I'm with you: Kim Ji-suk is so firmly engraved in my brain as Yeonsangun that it'll be kind of strange to see someone else in the role. But then again, I recall Jung Jin-Young's take on the character in THE KING AND THE CLOWN, and it coexists peacefully in my mind with KJS's, so what's one more version? (Why would I want to choose between King Lear by James Earl Jones and Laurence Olivier? I'll take both!) At the very least, it will be interesting to see how another writer/director team and Lee Dong-Gun handle the character. The same goes for Jungjong after seeing him portrayed at an older age in SAIMDANG, LIGHT'S DIARY -- in which he was unpleasant and paranoid -- and not that hot of a monarch, either. (I don't know how faithful to history the portrayal was.)

See you at the debut recap, if not before. ;-)

I don't know if I can handle this, ruler is angsty enough already as it is and it is only the third episode for it! But I am still willing to check it out because it looks so pretty and makes me think it would be tragically epic, lol. Also, why do they change their names after becoming king or queen?

YWJ in sageuk reminds me of his role in Arang and the Magistrate. It was so heartbreaking as well. I criiiiiied for him so much. He totally nailed that role. I wanted him to be happy but of course he was up aganist LJK so it was kinda pointless. Plus, he was also the reason why Arang died in the first place.
Go and break my heart show, I'm exciteeeeed.

@21 kayedrama May 18, 2017 at 8:20 AM:

I'm definitely having Joo-wal flashbacks to ARANG AND THE MAGISTRATE, too. By the time QUEEN FOR SEVEN DAYS is over, King Jungjong may end up wishing he was getting his memory wiped on a regular basis by evil Mom. ;-)

It looks like there will be at least a modicum of happiness before the shoe drops. According to AsianWiki, Lady Shin married Prince Jinsung in 1499, and was deposed in 1506, so they were together 6-7 years, not merely seven days.

Thanks for your reality check. The Jungjong of SAIMDANG, LIGHT'S DIARY came off like a jealously paranoid twit. I was hoping that I'd just be able to drool over admire Yeon Woo-jin in hanbok. But I'm really on the verge of gat overload, especially with the new crop of dramas about to start. Oh, well.

A full-on Korean Romeo and Juliet would be a blast. Especially if it were set in the Three Kingdoms period. With manes of glory. Yeah.

My prediction, in the first two epi, we will get the childhood part of them. Another 6-8 epi will be their adult part before marriage, and she will be a queen for around 4-6 epi and the rest will be after she was deposed. I suspect they won't get rid of Yeonsangun (Lee Dong Gun) in the first half of drama since he is among the main casts.
