Jang Mi-kwan and Lee Yeol-eum join KBS’s Strongest Deliveryman

Awww, I love how most of the main cast announced for Strongest Deliveryman are moving up in the drama character hierarchy with this show. Both Jang Mi-kwan (Strong Woman Do Bong-soon) and Lee Yeol-eum (Village: Secret of Achiara) have confirmed roles in the supporting cast of the upcoming KBS drama. Jang Mi-kwan will graduate from villain to second lead in his second drama since his debut, while Lee Yeol-eum will finally shed her high school uniform and play an ambitious woman seeking to expand her parents’ real estate business.

Go Kyung-pyo (Chicago Typewriter) will star in his first leading role as a jajangmyun delivery boy, opposite Chae Soo-bin (Rebel: Thief Who Stole the People), who’s also playing a struggling delivery worker. If our leads are the underdogs in a story about underdogs, the second leads are appropriately characters who appear on the outside to have it all. Lee Yeol-eum’s character has the looks, brains, and family background to be considered one of those “born with a golden spoon in her mouth” types. The original English colloquialism only really refers to a “silver spoon,” but Korea has expanded on that to describe various socioeconomic levels, i.e. dirt, bronze, silver, or gold spoons. In this case, Lee Yeol-eum aims to become a “diamond spoon,” and is described as practical and cold.

I’m quite happy to hear that Jang Mi-kwan has been offered a second lead character so soon after his acting debut (he was/is a model). I can’t say I was fond of his character in Do Bong-soon, but he was pretty creeptastic as the serial kidnapper with a fetish for thin women and I recall being surprised to learn that it was his debut drama. In Strongest Deliveryman, he’s up to play a second-generation chaebol heir who enjoys the high-flying, partying life, but has been cast aside by his family. He’ll eventually find his ambition hidden deep within himself, and mature throughout the show. From psychotic criminal on the run to a chaebol, that’s quite a step up.

Lee Yeol-eum is the biggest question mark for me so far since I last saw her in High School King of Savvy where, if memory serves, she was fine as a cute but bratty high-schooler. Otherwise, I’m really liking the other legs of our main cast, including Go Kyung-pyo and Chae Soo-bin. So I hope that this show about youths and their struggles turns out as cute and earnest as I’m picturing it in my head.

Strongest Deliveryman will premiere in July in KBS’s Friday-Saturday slot following The Best Hit.

Gotta say, I'm kinda excited to see what else Jang Mi Kwan can deliver us. There were many things wrong with SWDBS but I thought he acted his part really well, for what he was given.
And this is a big step up so soon! So I hope he does well!

Yeah... Jang Mi Kwan did a nice job with what was essentially a 2D character in SWDBS. Will forever be disappointed in the lack of backstory for his character.
Well, here's to turning over a new leaf...hope his new character is more nuanced and that he gives us a good performance.

Still salty he had no backstory too tbh -.-
But the more I learn about this drama the more I look forward to it. :D

Same! I was really impressed (and freaked out) with his performance in SWDBS, he really threw himself wholly into his character without worrying about any possible damage to his image. I really admire that, especially since it was his debut role. I think this is a smart choice for his next role as I doubt he wants to be stuck playing villains forever like Shin Sung Rok (and Namgoong Min before he finally managed to shake his typecasting).

Ofc I know him from SWDBS, and I remember her from Village. I have yet to form a concrete opinion on either of them so we'll see.

Lol, no second lead syndrome for me this time.

I'm scarred by his laughing fits in SWDBS. Lol, probably for life.

I can't wait to see what we get out of Jang Mi Kwan! He did scary so well but he has the looks to be a great party boy

Heee. They both creeped me out in their previous dramas. Jang Mi-kwan looks very sweet in that picture, and even his name is far from scary...but ugh *shudders*
They'll be in a drama led by GO KYUNG-PYO so I'll definitely see more of them.

Ah, so Jang Mi-kwan has "graduated" to chaebol roles, congrats! Time for a gratuitous shower scene too...

I am in the minority who wasn't impressed by this actor in SWDBS, I don't get his hype, well... at least he's not the lead.

It was his debut role, and like @yuyuu said in a reply to the first comment, he took a 2D character and did the best he could. I definitely don't think he's second-lead material yet, and he should've worked his way up a little bit, but I guess the casting agents and production wanted to take advantage of the SWDBS wave of popularity by casting him.

But I can see how his acting was definitely not on par with Kim Jaewook's villian for Voice.

I think for debut role, we should cut him some slack. Not everyone will be impressive. But he has my respect because brave enough to take a villain role for debut role. To compare with Kim Jae Wook seems unfair imo, because KJW definitely in a much higher level. I didn't finish SWDBS but saw some video of this guy's scenes. What give him more hype because he has the look.

I wasn't impressed by his acting either.

Neither was I really impressed. I mean, it's not bad for a debut role. But I feel that he has this quite "soft" vibe to him that didn't make the villian role as punchy/scary as it should have been. And it was weird they didn't even bother to include his backstory although he was talking alot about it in his post-drama interviews...

Anyways, he seems like a nice guy in interviews and I quite like him, but I think second lead is wayyyy too soon man. I initially thought he was just playing a bit-part character. But it seems like the drama isn't going for big name people for its cast. And kdramas have been casting really mediocre people as leads/second leads these past few months or so. Also, sad abandoned chaebol son is really abit too overdone by kdramaland. Idk, i just think it'd have been much better just building up his acting portfolio with smaller parts first.

Good for Jang Mi Kwan. Actors usually got cast in typical characters in their earlier days and your first character usually followed you around.
But from what I read, looks like his character is far from scary villain.
Well he might be going to be an obstacle for the lead, but sure he's not going around killing people...right?

Omggg im so happy for JMK!! For a key character for the story but that the writer thought didnt need a backstory or clear motif, he did an amazing job! And it was his debut on top of everything? Im def curious of how he'll portray what sounds on paper like the typical black sheep player chaebol kid that experiences something shocking to mature! The thing here is that idk who will I roof for since GKP is my bias and JMK is intriguing me so much!

The cast is shaping to be better and better...First having the leads in Go Kyung Pyo who i totally adore and Che Soo Bin and now Jang Mi Kwan who did such a good job with what he had(still sad they let his character fall somewhat flat with all they could do taking out useless plots, gangsters ehem)
Also another kudos to the casting directors for giving important roles to new and talented actors,it's always welcome some fresh vibe and new faces...

kind of tired with drama that filled in with chaebol and things that actually we don't really familiar with in real life. can't drama be just like reply series which are about common people's life and not full with glamorous things and chabol kind of businesses.

Father is Strange is AWESOME. KBS has been on a role with family dramas. I don't usually watch (because they're so long) but I've been tuning in every Saturday and Sunday for a nearly a year now because of Five Children, Laurel Tree Tailors, and Father is Strange!

Lee Yu-ri is simply marvelous is in this drama. The type of badass female role-model every girl needs in her life <3

Really excited for Go Kyung Pyo for his first lead role. Really liked him in Reply 1988.
Quite a step up for Jang Mi-Kwan. Can't really like his character in Strong Woman. He was effectively creepy and crazy. So would be interesting to see him in this drama

"Lee Yeol-eum will finally shed her high school uniform" - sloppy research. She has already played a fully adult, no-student character in Divorce Lawyer in Love, a role that included a couple of one night stands. No school uniform in sight there.

The real buffed, hotter and grown up identical version of Im Si Wan is a Thailand actor called James Ma. The resemblance is so uncanny that when I saw him in a Lakorn, the first thing that went through my mind was "what is Im Si Wan doing in a lakorn".

Really happy for JMK!! Gotta admit I was completely creeped out by him in SWDBS, but he played his role so well there that you wouldn't havd thought it was his debut drama. The character here will be a nice contrast for him. The leads seem pretty solid. Hope this show will do well. ?

I'm sorry to say that I'm not so impress with Jang Mi-kwan's acting in SWDBS. Well, it's not his fault at all because Kim Jae Wook a.k.a Mo Ta Gu in Voice was more classy-powerful in delivering his evil deeds.

But the main lead is Go Kyung-pyo! His cuteness in Chicago Typewriter blown me away and he's so adorable in Reply 1988.

*sigh* it's so frustrating thou..

I like him in SWDBS, he perform so well with the thin layered character he's given, I got the creepy and annoying vibe from him in the drama hahaha, for a rookie actor he's kinda good (that was his first role right? he did superb for his starter role)

I hope he could get a better character here, he's good looking enough to play a second lead, I wish him well and success~

Lee Yeol-Eum, that brat in HSKoS? Still as skinny as a stick, I thought she has some drive, though I didnt like the character itself. But it´s what she was given, so... I can bet she´ll do a determined and ambitious character well. Just as long as her arms and legs don´t break in half.

I'm going to be shallow for a moment and say I was very surprised to hear Jang Mi-kwan was a model as me and my family found him odd looking.

But on another note, even though I didn't like SWDBS I do think Jang Mi-kwan did a good job playing a creepy serial kidnapper.

A characteristic "look" of high fashion models is that they have something interesting and distinctive about their features, and not necessarily have girl/boy attractiveness. You can hear many of the most successful models say that when they were in school they were not thought of for their looks, and sometimes were even teased for them. I always thought this was kind of cool!

I'm excited for Chae Soo-bin! She was a force to be reckoned with in Sassy Go Go; a true natural. I was excited to hear she'd be playing the lead in Rebel: Thief Who Stole the People but was disappointed to see her character underutilized for the majority of the first half. Additionally, her character paled in comparison to the beautiful complexity that was Nok Soo. While I wouldn't have wanted anyone else but Honey Lee playing Nok Soo, I am hoping Chae Soo-bin will have the opportunity to play a richer and more nuanced character in this drama. She'll rock it!

In my opinion, in Rebel, although Chae Soo Bin is the love interest of Yun Kyun Sang, but she was not the first female lead imo. Kinda like Im Yoona -Song Yoon Ah in K2, although the young Yoona was the love interest for Ji Chang Wook, she was not by any means the main female lead. Villain is not necessary will go the second lead in every drama. In Rebel both four are the main leads, but if we put them according to sequence it will be 1) Yun Kyun Sang 2) Kim Ji Suk 3) Lee Honey 4)Chae Soo Bin.

But I sooo preferred Chae in second half of Rebel, I was not interested in her in the first half of the drama. Since this is male centric drama, I am grateful enough the writer didnt forget her existence.
