Team Dramabeans: What we’re watching

Maybe it’s just me and not dramaland, and my problem is that I’ve just lost that lovin’ feeling. Maybe it’s not the fault of the drama offerings, because it seems that a number of shows are doing pretty well these days, but I’m back to feeling the drag. Now I know why family dramas do so well, because although I feel like they’re among the less fresh, creative, and exciting stories in K-drama (along with morning and daily serials), in my current slump they’re the only type of show I have the energy to follow. Not because they’re better, but because they’re easy and familiar, and once you get past the first couple episodes of setup, you don’t have to put in much mental effort to keep following along. Maybe one of these days I’ll feel excited and sucked back into the wonderful world of miniseries, but for now, it’s the family sagas that keep me watching. –javabeans

Strong Woman Do Bong-soon: I love how swoony this show can get, and how Park Hyung-shik injects such feeling into his lingering gazes and stolen glances. I cheered when Min-hyuk got the hero-backlighting treatment, and practically felt my heart pounding along with Bong-soon’s every time he made his intentions known. I’m grateful for this drama coming along right now, because without it I’d be finding dramaland rather dull these days.

Father, I’ll Take Care of You: What a difference twenty episodes make: At first, I thought Kim Jae-won’s storyline was the sore thumb that stuck out of the otherwise upbeat story, but now that everyone else has turned shrewish and frustrating, he’s the one thing I find refreshing in the show. Does it make me a bad person for rooting for him to ruin everyone’s lives? Or for cheering when the dumb first son finally realized he’d lost it all? Or feeling vindicated when Dad collapsed upon hearing just how badly he’d screwed over Kim Jae-won in the first place? I’m turning vindictive and enjoying it.

Father Is Strange: I like each of the siblings and the parents and even the in-laws, but for me most of the emotional draw is with Lee Joon, who is equal parts pitiful and funny. He’s made this character hilarious without turning him into a buffoon, and I feel every bit of his embarrassment and loneliness. Just adopt him already, Dad! I know that puts a damper on the whole Jung So-min loveline, but right now I feel like he needs a family more than he needs a girlfriend.

You’re Too Much: I was curious to see how the actress swap would turn out, so I returned to this show just as Jang Hee-jin stepped in. And dare I say it: I find her an improvement. She immediately feels at home in this role, with an emotional genuineness that draws you in and a sadness that seems to come from within, which works wonderfully for the Hae-dang character. I did think this drama was the best Gu Hye-sun had been in years, but her sadness felt affected and less natural, so I didn’t feel as immediate a presence from her. That said, the show is still a little too morose for me, so I think I’ll call it a day.

Whisper: Twisted. It was an eventful premiere—a little TOO eventful at times, with so many things happening so fast that it was hard to get my bearings at first—but I’m definitely sucked in by Lee Bo-young’s hard-edged character and her blinding anger at the injustice of the world. Everyone in the cast seems to have good angry chemistry with everyone else, so while it’s not a happy drama, the tension is simmering all around in a good way. But was anyone else disappointed that everyone switched careers after one episode?? I wanted a cop and a judge fighting against the corrupt system, not everyone and their father working at the One Law Firm to Rule Them All.

Rebel: Thief Who Stole the People: I was relieved to discover that Gil-dong and Co. had been doing their vigilante work on the down-low all this time, because I was starting to worry that he’d just become a full-time gangster. Seeing them finally step into the classic Hong Gil-dong role of punishing the wicked and giving to the poor was a really energizing moment in the series. This right here is what I came for!

Strong Woman Do Bong-soon: Aaaaaah, I love that Bong-soon finally has heart-eyes for Min-hyuk! The way she keeps staring at him is hilarious—there isn’t actual drool, but I half expected them to CG it on her face at some point. The plot has slowed, but if this is the price we pay for romance, by all means take your sweet time, plot.

Tomorrow With You: Ultimately I wasn’t satisfied with the time-travel aspect of the series, because it caused more problems than it solved and I was still left with all sorts of questions about the ten-year term for the subway crash survivors (like, how technically does Dad’s sacrifice negate their expiration dates?), but the letters sent from past to future and vice versa were a nice touch, and I liked how all of So-joon’s visits to the future in previous episodes became callbacks when we got to Ma-rin’s side of the timeline. I really enjoyed the beginning of the show with the weird courtship and sudden marriage, but the rest of the series became a little lifeless after that, and never managed to reclaim that initial charm.

HeadsNo2

Chief Kim: I’m calling it: This is the funniest drama I’ve ever seen. It may not be the funniest drama ever, but the humor just resonated so well with me that I feel a tangible sense of fear that I won’t see the likes of it again. It feels like one of those lightning-in-a-bottle dramas, the kind where the cast has just the perfect chemistry, perfect comedic timing, and perfect trajectories. It wasn’t all perfect, but I have such a soft spot for dramas where it seems like the cast is just having an absolute blast. It makes me believe that the characters on screen will continue to have just as much fun when the cameras aren’t rolling, which is perhaps the best way to leave a drama. Fare thee well, you awesome show, you. (Also, if Neighborhood Lawyer Jo Deul-ho could get a sequel, why can’t you?)

odilettante

Currently recapping: Whisper

Super Family 2017: Ah, the true test of love—smelling your beloved’s farts. Is it weird that the scene in the hospital was my favorite this week? I feel like it perfectly sums up why I love this little family (and this show) so much, with such tenderhearted thoughtfulness intermingled with hilarious honesty, and characters so relatable that I somehow can see a part of myself in each one of them.

Radiant Office: I didn’t think I’d care about any of the supposed lovelines in this show (because I’m here for the suicide squad and their adorable interactions), but the moment Kang-ho was leaving the coffee shop and looked back at Suk-kyung and her cute daughter, I was a goner. May this noona romance live up to the expectations I didn’t even know I had until just now.

Laica

Strong Woman Do Bong-soon: This week’s episodes were all about Min-hyuk and Bong-soon for me. All the other storylines are either slow or frustrating, but I just don’t care, because these two are SO ADORABLE. The way Min-hyuk looks at Bong-soon, her fanciful Romeo and Juliet dreams, and all these confessions our boy is dropping like it’s no biggie totally warm my heart and make me squee. Because honesty is the most romantic thing. I am increasingly frustrated by the casual and reckless violence in this show, but I’m willing to wait until the show ends to see how, or if, it addresses these issues. Maybe it’s trying to say something about domestic violence, bullying, and gender roles, and we just haven’t gotten there yet? But I’m side-eyeing you until then, Show.

Father Is Strange: Since I wasn’t recapping this week I finally got a chance to start this show, and I’m already caught up. It took me an episode or two to get back into the slower pace of family dramas as I haven’t watched one in a while, but now I’m enjoying it. It’s a fun, better-than-average weekend show with an engaging cast, and although every beat is predictable, I like the somewhat unusual way we’re approaching familiar tropes. Lee Yuri and Ryu Soo-young have great chemistry and you can tell they’re enjoying the heck out of their roles; her parents have a wonderful, loving relationship that’s rare to see in dramas, and I like the contrast with his parents’ contentious and distant marriage. But my favorite thing about this show is Lee Joon, who plays the ridiculous foot-actor with an earnestness that makes him hilarious and yet full of heart. His recognition of his own flaws and his willingness to give up so much of his closely held emotional armor in order to improve himself was so moving, especially when he failed in the end, both personally and professionally. I’m hoping that once the Byuns adopt him into their boisterous clan, he’ll be able to fill that loneliness and find his place among them. I’m also looking forward to the evolution of his relationship with Jung So-min (Yay! So glad to see her back!) from archenemies, to friends, to forever.

Radiant Office: How much do I love this show? I can’t even express how it makes me feel. It definitely has its issues, namely some of the ridiculous office plotlines (who takes a vote on whether to fire a temp or keep her?), but the characters are so human and funny. I love our Suicide Squad, as odilettante has brilliantly named them, and it’s wonderful to see them slowly regaining the will to live and throwing themselves into achieving their dreams, even if one of them is counting her days. I wasn’t sure how this show would manage to be a comedy considering its terminal illness premise, but it has the perfect balance of humor, wackiness, heart, and melancholy.

Chief Kim: Finale week! I’m going to miss this wacky bunch so much. Such a satisfying ending, with great resolutions for all the characters. Yul and Sung-ryong’s was a bromance for the ages, and was honestly more romantic and beautiful than many OTPs in my drama-watching life. This show kept up its fast pace, smart writing, and brilliant character moments until the end, and it was a wonderful show throughout its run. I loved how we got the parallel in the last act between Sung-ryong’s redemption and Yul’s; I remember people speculating that Yul was undercover in earlier episodes, but him being an actual villain and using that as a cover in order to redeem himself is almost poetic. And Myung-suk screwing up his courage and deciding to be the man his father never was made me unutterably proud. I’m sad that the Business Operations family had to lose their Chief Kim, but at least he’s nearby; besides, he’s too much of a free spirit to enjoy working in a corporation. In the end, this show was all about its ensemble—as the ending credits said, everyone is a main character—and it was the perfect show to watch in these troubled times. Aja!

1 Night 2 Days: This show lost a bit of its mojo when PD Yoo Ho-jin left, especially with Joon-young’s recent hiatus, but the ten-year anniversary special encapsulated everything I love best about this season, and those three theme songs were perfect. (The production team must have agreed, because they officially recorded and released the songs and made music videos for each one.) Seriously, go look them up. I cried.

I hate being this early, especially when I'm nowhere close to caught up.

But the Do Bong Soon comments are making me consider ununpausing it so that's good.

My heart flutterred right along with Do Bong Soon's whenever Ahn Min Hyuk came on screen. *sigh* Park Hyung Sik does romcom like no other.

I'm only watching Strong Woman Do Bong Soon for Min-hyuk, and Park Hyung-shik plays him well. Whoever his stylist in the drama is has my thanks, since his outfits are working like a charm on me. As for Bong-soon, I like her mostly only because Min-hyuk likes her, but as a character she's poorly written, as is the rest of the show.

Thank you so much for the comment on Do Bong Soon!
I thought I was the only one who doesn't find the funny parts funny.
I guess it is not really my kind of humour to begin with, but it was kind of bearable till now (or maybe I am just too tired to put up with it?).
Anyways, I found myself skipping (which I never do!) all the "funny" parts in the last episode and watched only Bong Soon and Min Hyeok moments plus Gook Doo and the serial kidnapper.

I really watch only for the OTP now.

I agree as well. Everyone kept on going on about how funny it is but all the "funny" scenes I found awkward and they made me cringe. I am only watching for the OTP scenes myself and really not sure why they have so many annoying and unlikable characters such as the mom and the dopplengar, both of whom are abusive bullies and not funny or likeable at all.

Play games?
2 weeks ago i was bingeing on games. Great way to pass time if you don't want to watch dramas. Great way to get away from dramas for a while to recharge on watching energy. This week i spent an awful lot of time catching up on dramas.

Finished defendant, tomorrow with you, chief kim.
Watching rebel thief who stole the people, liar and lover, radiant office, saimdang, strong woman do bong soon.
Planning to watch whisper and father is strange.

Liar and lover has a very simple plot that may probably go into angst down the line.
Saimdang I'm only watching at 2x speed as my colleagues are still watching and they like it. I find it a tad too slow, and the plot a little too old, especially compared with rebel, which i like a lot more.
I actually quite like radiant office.
Chief kim, rebel, strong woman and radiant office are the shows i reach for first when i have time to watch dramas.

Yeah, sometimes i just switch to anime and films, or chinese dramas, cantonese dramas, taiwanese dramas, or english films, or just something totally different.
Usually it's easier to follow a drama once you have started a few episodes. But the problem is there are just too many new dramas all the time!
When almost every korean drama premise sounds like another that we've watched before, its really hard to start.
Maybe it's time to get away and do something else for a while to recharge :)
The only family drama i finished was you're the best lee soon shin. I spent half the time engrossed with Jo Jung Suk and bread man, and the half irritated with all the moms =p

Smile, You is my favorite family drama! I've watched it at least three times. It slows down a little after the main couple gets together, true, but I thought it was worth it to get to the end. (And Lee Min-jung was an absolute hoot in it.)

I'm getting very similar vibes from Father Is Strange after watching the first two episodes, so I was thinking of continuing with it. The rich father (Kang Seok-woo) and the "poor" mother (Song Ok-sook) from Smile, You actually play a married couple in it, and I seriously lol when I remember how much they hated each other in Smile, You.

Everything you said about Strong Woman Do Bong Soon is exactly my feelings. The show is SO adorable when it focuses on DBS and MH and their interactions. But anything outside of that is just not good. The humor is not funny. It relies so heavily on slapstick and shock humor which I do not find funny. The gay boss was SO cringe worthy. I'm still trying to figure out what his purpose even was.

Also, the weird disconnect between the extremely dark kidnapper story to the super hyper and light rom-com parts are so jarring and not well written. The drama is trying to be too many things at once and it is only succeeding with the relationship between the main characters. DBS and MH are the only reason I come back to the drama.

Is Radiant Office and Super Family 2017 worth starting?

Whisper: Absolutely can't wait to start this show. But I've heard that the female character rapes the male character. Is it still worth watching?

Strong Woman Do Bong Soon: I strangely feel disconnected and unmotivated to watch this show. I absolutely love these characters but I'm now behind 2 episodes and i dont know when I'll ever catch up

Tunnel: Amazing!! The 80s vibe of the show completely hooked me and I kind of wish the whole show took place there. I'm interested in seeing how the people of the past relate to the people he just met. And why didn't he immediately go look for his wife?

Father is Strange: The show I didn't know I needed until I watched it. The sibling interactions are so realistic and genuine. But Lee Joon is stealing the show for me. His character may be a foot actor on screen but off screen there's so much complexity that I just want to hold and tell him everything will be okay

And about whisper, it's one of the thing that makes me absolutely disconnected with the show. And I'm just so confused with all the tricks and twist. Or maybe I'm just not bright enough to follow it. But if you like thriller, consider watching it

There is no rape scene in Whisper. There is a faked rape video that is part of a revenge/blackmail plot.

Tunnel I have mixed feelings on so far - I like the concept, but the violent hair trigger cop trope is getting a bit old.

Strong Woman - I like it OK, but is not a must watch one.

SWDBS is hitting that kdrama "TF is this mess" period. I really don't understand how shows that were planned for 16 episodes all start to suck in that 9 - 14 range. It's like it's a requirement.

MH and DBS are adorable, but he's been looking at her like that since Ep 1 or 2. There relationship isn't really going anywhere. They've "unscarried" the kidnapper, but I'm tired of knowing (not seeing since I skip pass those parts) a group of terrified women are being held captive and dependent on an egregiously incompetent police force to rescue them.

While action and drama seem to translate well across cultures, comedy not so much. Netflix has allowed a range of movie samplings and 99% of the foreign comedies just aren't funny to me.

Also. What is with SK's fascination with toilet humor? Farting, pissing, and drooling should never be used to modify the word "joke." Drinking s*** isn't funny. It's criminal.

I couldn't agree more with most of your comments. I don't necessarily have a problem with the humor because it's foreign. In fact, I think the character actors are naturally funny and likable. The problem is that a lot of the humor is pretty stale. It's of the slapstick Three Stooges variety or it makes fun of stereotypes and situations that are gross or not that funny. I don't like humor that dehumanizes or humiliates its characters. I am more likely to laugh when I can actually relate to the ironies of the human condition. The humor feels mean-spirited when I am actually laughing at people, particularly people getting injured or abused.

Your comment about the typical episode slump is also very true. I think this is the point where K-drama writers get lazy and take character chemistry for granted. I like romance as much as the next person, but I hate when it starts to feel like filler. That usually happens when the writers stop providing creative scenarios in which the main couple's interactions are actually interesting. While everyone else cheers the first kiss, I dread the inevitable draggy portion to come. The couple stops being unique. They buy each other matching shirts, ride a couple bike, and go to the beach. If the girl is strong and smart, she stops caring about everything, speaks in aegyo, and suddenly needs to be protected. In many K-dramas, her sudden reliance on the guy becomes a loss of agency, which dampens my enthusiasm for their relationship, no matter how cute it is.

I hope that is not Bong Soon's fate. Her strength is actually one of the best aspects of the show. I also liked how Min Hyuk was pleased, rather than emasculated, by her strength.

I get impatient with some of the kidnapper's scenes, too. Also, it bothers me how most traumatized characters in K-dramas act the same way. They basically bawl loudly until the ordeal is over. Whatever happened to suffering in silence? And how can anyone cry for such a prolonged period of time?

I agree with you Javabeans. None of the shows airing right now are interesting to me or an easy watch and I am only waiting for Chicago Typewriter now.

So I decided to watch Full House Thai version. Not having watched the original Korean version, this show still is so atypical kdrama. But I am having fun watching it. The one I miss in any of the kdramas these days.

Btw is the K-Full house good too? I have obviously heard good things about it but I wonder if the story is ant different and I should watch it.

It took me 5 episodes to get into that show and it was good but as La Plume said it did drag a lot by the end. Moreover the story is weak in the beginning and it also took me time to get used to the comparitively lower budget drama which was very apparent on the screen. But they still did a good job, you might starting loving it in the middle.

Now if only this show was a bit steamier, it would've been perfection on the romance-front.

A little bit makjang (but which drama does not have this element) but overall very cute and light to watch. It's 100+ eps though, and each episode is about 30minutes

"Person who gives happiness" - Is that the one with orphanages and switched births? I like the actress, she was good in Dandelion Family and Wang's Family. I like daily dramas with good support casts.

Man Dandelion Family covered domestic violence and manipulative husbands pretty well.

I just want to know what happened with I Am Sorry Kim Nam Goo if you are watching. Has the lead girl gets back her memory? I want to jump in back when the revenge plot started. lol. But will there any revenge plot in this drama? hmm.

I am sucker for makjang revenge drama but Father I'll Take Care You is not that good (the revenge part).

I'm sorry Kang Nam Goo is still on 70episodes, so the memory will still be lost until another 10-20 episodes I think :D

Is it good? I'm planning to watch it but I've watched 3 daily dramas already (Still Loving You, Love is Drop by Drop, Golden Pouch) so I'm refraining myself to watch another daily drama unless it's very good

I don't know if it good or not, I watched some earlier until she got her amnesia. But then it is exhausting to see the amnesia plot for so many episodes so I stopped watching. I will wait until the revenge plan starts then wait it again.

Is person who gives happiness good?

Yay to someone who watch still loving you too! I love the brothers! So hyun is so awkward with romance while soo hoo is an expert lol And the scene with the chicken is the best thing haha

I don't mind it, mostly because the characters behave as idiotically and selfishly as most people would in real life. Everyone has their grey areas, the good student is actually a stubborn brat, the slacker student is good at something once you encourage him etc. People loooove money in this drama, even after being burnt by Hyun Woo.

And Bang Mi Joo is actually logical compared to most second lead meanies, she legit cares for her division and the drama they want to put out.

I love dailies, thanks for the reco! Then again I sat through temptation of a wife...so my taste is nothing to speak of. Heh. Happy Home was well done, even with brain tumors, umm,

Temptation of a wife is the one where the husband (accidentally) killed his own wife on the sea (or lake? River? I forgot) and the wife came back with a new wife to seduce him?
Nah I watched a lot of daily dramas too so my taste is nothing to speak of as well haha. Still Loving You is the best of the current daily drama I think in my opinion. I need to start other daily dramas on the same airtime too after this one ends. Oh right, if you like the makjang element, Love is Drop by Drop and Golden Pouch are also good :)

1N2D is the only variety show that makes me feel like Monday is a good day. Yes, after Yu Hojin PD left, the show felt lose some of its mojo especially when they lost Joonyoung for a few months. But it definitely has its gold moments too. Like the Summer's end-of-semester ceremony (eating lunchbox secretly), Heat Brings You Luck (Old Man/Ah Je competition), Unplanned Trip (Park Bogum, Kim Joonhyun teams' Brown Trip), Kim Jong Min Special (video tribute), Hwarang (ALL 3 parts), 10th year anniversary, and the latest episode (Hangover Soup Tour) was funny throughout. I feel like this season shines best when interacting with non-celebrity guests and with just the 6 members so I hope to see more of that too.

HeadsNo2's new picture is cute! Tomorrow with you was the only drama I was looking forward to every week. The Time travelling aspect was not written well but I really liked our OTP, them marrying was so joon's doing and not really for love. But after that their interactions, their arguments, their make-ups all seemed so realistic to me. The actors had awesome chemistry that they felt like a real married couple to me. So, I feel slightly sad that I no longer have this drama to look forward to every weekend.

I am also watching do bong soon but I am not enthralled by it. I watch all park hyung shik's and park bo young's scenes together because they are just adorable together! But all the other aspects of the drama, I just don't care at all. But in the 11th episode, I felt really bad for ji soo though. Losing his ex-girlfriend to his best friend and being rejected even before confessing. Ouch, that's hard.

I have also started watching the liar and his lover but it would been great to marathon because its really fun and addictive and cute and fluff but still doesn't feel superficial because all the characters feel three dimensional and their struggles and passion and dreams feel real too and I want to watch the next episode now!

Also watching the Taiwanese drama in time with you because I really like friends to lovers trope. I feel like this drama has a lot more depth and the male lead is the type of guy I would like to meet in real life. Li da ren is this stable, steadfast type of guy that you could always rely on and his dimple is just too cute. I am on episode 6 and it frustrates me so much that they both don't see how perfect they are for each other. But, finally li da ren has accepted his feelings, I don't know when he is going to confess, If only there are no meddling second leads. It seems a little slow but that might be because of the length of the episodes.

Because of you guys positive reviews of chief Kim, I feel like I should give it a shot. Let's see if I get the time.

Taiwan In Time with You...

Sounds like you have a ways to go yet but do try to hang on through ep 16-18 (or something like that) where it drags into a ridiculously long subplot. The last 2 (especially the final) episodes are what I consider the "right" way to end a drama.

I felt the drama writers copped out slightly on Ariel's character by giving her an easy out rather than forcing her to make a hard choice. (but I won't go further to avoid spoilers)

I strongly recommend this series for being mature and realistic about 30 something romance and avoided the "I've never kissed even though I'm 30 years old" trope that k-drama's seem to feel appropriate for their female leads. I should give it a snappy meme - "K Drama Chastity Belt"?

Of course, they could have written in some flaws to Li Da Ren besides being a bit too passive but there are worse things in drama life than a "too perfect" boyfriend/husband.

I'm currently watching Strong Woman Do Bong Soon and Radiant Office.

While I do love the forward movement of Do Bong Soon and Min Hyuk's relationship, I just can't seem to get into the other characters' plotlines. The gangsters and highschool bullies felt like fillers for episodes 9 and 10. And Ji Soo's acting just turns me off. I still haven't watched the last 2 episodes. I just hope that the story improved.

I'm loving Radiant Office. Although I agree with Laica's comment on some of the office plotlines being ridiculous, I still enjoy watching the Suicide Squad and how they get through their day-to-day struggles at Hauline. They are just so relatable and seeing their friendship is so heartwarming. Go Ah Sung and Ha Suk Jin definitely have chemistry and I'm waiting for their loveline to develop. And I'm quite curious with Dr. Seo Hyun. I'm not sure if he really had good intentions in letting the Suicide Squad get hired at Hauline. I just hope that he is genuine and will continue being the Daddy Long Legs to Eun Ho Won.

Agree with Javabeans comment. I felt a little bit of the dullness in dramaland for this season. I couldn't wait for next week where new shows start airing

Strong Woman Do Bong Soon: Finally Bong Soon, we're on the same page! And here I am wondering how she could not fall in love with him when he looks at her like THAT?

Whisper: I have to admit that I'm confused with all the twist in the story and I don't think that rape is necessary to make him cooperate with you

Liar and His Lover: Love, love, love! I know it's only 4episodes, and as someone who reads the manga, I know that the angst is coming and I'm sure as hell would hate so many characters when that happen. But now, I'll just enjoy the cute while I can

Father I'll Take Care of You: Agree with what Javabeans said. When the family demanded Kim Jae Won to apologize for scaring the elder (Ha!) and when the father fainted, I almost feel like I want to kill someone. And please someone tell Song Joon to just leave the Han family. I don't understand why he stayed with that family when they never even cared about him in the first place

Father is Strange: Love the story so far. The siblings are so adorable together. The face mask scene is amazing. I could feel them because I did it with my mom too. Lee Joon continue to be the heart of the show and I just want him to be happy and live with the family soon. Still have a disconnect with Ra-young's character but I hope she'll change soon

Due to the lack of cuteness (except for Bong Soon), I decided to pick up old dramas that I dropped for whatever reason

Let's Fight Ghost: Love the show, didn't see any fault with Taekyeon's acting for once (he's so adorable and have good rapport with Kim So-hyun). The ending is also good I think. Overall satisfying

Beautiful Gong Shim (3/20): Loving the cuteness. Namgoong Min and Minah make the perfect pair. Hope they'll have another drama together. And soon~

I still watch too many dramas D:

Tunnel and Whisper - that's it. Absolutely love both shows. Whisper is a dark revenge, my favorite kind of drama. And I don't think the scene was really rape, she made it look like he raped her and taped it so she could blackmail him to help her. So very soap opera. Tunnel has excellent writing. So many mysteries and coincidences. Kind of reminds me of the British show Life On Mars. Did he really time travel or was he in a coma. Just hope they keep up the excellent writing.

So far both females seem to be stronger. I like them both. In fact I like the whole cast. I was surprised the bad guys were viewed as evil from the get go. Hope this is an interesting ride. Don't you wonder whether or not Dong Joon will continue his downward spiral and at what point will he become assertive instead of so passive? How low will he have to sink before he does the right thing? I like how the leads are morally gray right now.

I had doubts at the first couple of scenes because it's been done so much and the high powered corruption was so blatant. But now I'm wondering if we'll see how the men in power came to be so corrupt - did they start out as honorable like Dong Joon? Was the descent gradual and will that happen to Dong Joon? He made one huge mistake and now he's slowly being dragged into corruption himself.

At this point I think Dong Joon could go either way, but am hoping that as he sees more and more corruption he will team up with her.

Yess Tunnel is the bomb dot com! I guess maybe I don't watch enough kdramas yet but I was very taken by how thoughtful and melancholic it was. I mean I would've rooted for Choi Jin Hyuk's character regardless because I am only human and therefore not impervious to his charisma. But the way it was written as well - you SERIOUSLY want him to catch whoever did it because you see the toll it's taking on everyone involved: the victims' families, the detectives, and even the community itself.

The time travelling is ominous and disorienting in just the right ways and I cannot wait for more episodes. A seriously underrated drama!

I'm still enjoying SWBS and Rebel, but I'm also feeling that dramaland has been a tad dull lately. Which is kind of a good thing because I don't have much time for it. Both of those shows are slow in their own ways so that might be part of the problem.

I adore the romance and leads in SWBS. Just wish everything else came together for me. I don't necessarily mean less wacky (i love JI after all), just better at integrating its funny filler into the main story. Sometimes scenes with the gangsters take up a bit too much time. And I'm definitely side-eyeing the shows' representation of abuse.

Everything comes together in Rebel for me, but it definitely takes its sweet time telling its story. It's fun and satisfying, just not necessarily cracky.

I really adored so much about TWY, but I agree with GF, I wanted it to have just a little more life to it. Which is probably why I'm left feeling mildly disappointed, despite enjoying it to the end.

That said, I think a part of my problem is how much I loved dramas towards the end of 2016. And that I'm all of a sudden really desperate for some of the upcoming dramas because of their awesome castings. Chicago Typewriter and Man to Man will come soon enough, but how am I supposed to wait for Suspicious Partner, The Best Hit, Ruler, Forest of Secrets, Third-rate my Way, and Circle when I love all the leads so much. A better question is how exactly I'm planning on watching them all when they finally come in May.

Oh, and I only just discovered that I missed the amazing news last week of Yeon Woo-jin snagging the lead in Seven Day Queen opposite Park Min-young, so I'm now desperate for that too. Great.

Slowly getting back on track with my kdramas, but then there’s a bunch of new shows I want to watch next week! xD

Whisper - This definitely reminds me of the writer’s past drama Punch because of all the shady characters and snarky lines. I like the dialogue when there’s use of analogies or other meanings, but it goes over my head sometimes I’m intrigued by the show, but somewhat detached.

Tunnel - I’m hooked on this show. First two episodes were a good intro to the cast of characters – past and present. Excited to see the main team working together to investigate the crimes and see more of the time travel element.

Strong Woman Do Bong Soon This is the second show I look forward to each week (Tunnel is first). I just watched EP 11 yesterday and thought it was good showing the swoony romance. I feel like the crime/mystery plot is gradually connecting with DBS’s side of the story. Haven’t watched EP 12 yet.

WFKBJ EP13? I’m gradually catching up on this drama, but I’m really enjoying it. Compared to SWDBS, I feel like the writing/editing is more solid and cohesive. Both main leads’ romances are lovely and have great chemistry.

Also watching Strong Woman DBS for the OTP - everything other than this is either annoying (the mom!), unfunny (the office bully), or meh (the cops). It brighten my weekend but it's not too addictive that I dread the weekly wait so it's a good watch.

I've been watching You’re Too Much, it seems like it could be good, especially when they had Jung Hwa, and Hye Sun. I was literally watching it because they were in it. But the camera angles, camera type, and editing make it seem amateurish and cheap. Sure, for a family drama that long on weekends you want to cut budget --but bad the editing though! Hye Sun seems good some moments, but stiff in others, but I love her anyway, and it was early days for the feel of the role. With her gone (get well soon!), the transition was seamless beyond the first scene. Dying waiting for Woman of Dignity to air. Can't get enough of Kim Sun A.

If you like Ojakgyo Brothers (puppy Joo Won! Love him so much there) I think you'll enjoy all family dramas done by KBS

1. What happens with my family
2. You who rolled in unexpectedly
3. Bluebird's House
4. My Daugther Seo Young
5. Gentlemen of Wolgyesu Tailor Shop

I watch all of those title above while it was airing :)

There are others as well, but not done by KBS so it's more overshadowed by makjang but if you want to try, the titles are:
1. All About My Mom
2. Mom (yes, it's two different dramas with the one above)
3. Thousand Years Legacy
4. Happy Home
5. Wonderful Mama
6. Glorious Days
7. Rosy Lovers

I know I watch so many dramas lol Family dramas (and daily dramas) are my mom's favorite so I usually accompany her watching it. I've watched more than this but can't remember the title at the moment. If you want to discuss it more we can talk through line or e-mail :D

I liked Life is Beautiful (2010) starring Lee Sang Yoon, Lee Sang Woo, Song Chang Ui, Woo Hee Jin, Kim Hae Sook and Kim Young Chul. It portrays a conflict ridden but very functional family dynamics. It also deals with sensitive issue of homosexuality with a deft and mature touch to be expected from an experienced writer Kim Soo Hyun. I also liked the less preachy tone, unlike some of her other works.

I second Glorious Day too. The chemistry between the main couple (Lee Sang Woo and Park Se Young) is really cute.

Perhaps DB is indeed a very energetic website that there are so many viewers the domain just crashed.

@Ip thanks for the suggestion. I actually tried the first and second episode but I just quit. The female lead was a bit too annoying for my taste. But as you and some other beanies have recommended this one.. I might give it a second try :)

I often think the kdrama scriptwriters are total shrill. Always mocking and making fun intelligence of the audience. Lazy and shameless enough to come up with such excuses and plotlines. Undeserving of their job.

Chief Kim - is good as mindless entertainment but show was deserves not better than B- Grade.

Rebel - is all about Hero being hero and doing things because scriptwriter made him do so.

Radiant Office - is good when The suicidal three are together rest of it becomes hard to follow because of sheer nonsense of happenings.

Liar - The show's strength lies with bands.Characters as individuals not leave much mark. I'm much interested in Han Gyeol than that Heroine who always likes to show her teeth. She might be a good singer(millions other are) but her act(however it is) is annoying. Show is ridiculous on many fronts. What can you expect from these kind of writers.

Father - Dropped long ago. Still want to say and those clapping for him or supporting him or who like the taste of revenge - The guy is Despicable and a low-life Criminal. Scriptwriter is the worst.

Father is strange - This is rehashed Ojakkyo Brothers.

The Perfect Match - My 2nd Taiwanese show but gonna watch all of Its episodes. Hence my 1st drama from the land of taiwan which made me tolerate Chinese. Scriptwriter its 2 0 1 7. He/She must consider himself/herself lucky that this kind of story as chosen by the channel and he/she got the job. Too Cliche and good amount of illogical happenings. Whatever i will tolerate it all because of the leading Couple.

I'm totally enamored because of Ivy Shao and Chris Vu and then we have GBOYSWAG'S Opening. Show has its own share fairly good moments but i can't ignore its shortcomings.

I have not watched The Perfect Match - I tend to stay away from Taiwan dramas (and away from Chinese ones even more) because they all seem to move so slow. And most seem totally detached from real life. But I might give it a shot - perhaps better than most.

I have tried several Chinese drama and most of them were terrible. Heck, I find kdramas standard far better than Chinese dramas.

Viki has its rights and they have already updated 4-5 videos of it on their official youtube channel. You can try those videos to check this show.

The Perfect Match has all kind romanric cliches but the thing that attracted my attention was interaction of Main leads. Story is moving pretty fast here. One annoying thing that is also available in kdrama is, Loud bank ground music. As soon as a cliche romantic scene pops up - Opening of show starts to play.

I'm surprised how much invested i am in the show.

OMG, thanks for the comment about Hyun Woo/Father I'll Take Care of You. I was starting to think I was the only one who thinks he's become just as much a low-life as he thinks the Han family are. I stopped watching full episodes once Hyun Woo went full on psycho with his revenge scheme, but have still been watching bits and pieces—I foolishly hoped Hyun Woo would get some perspective when he realized Sung Joon was his brother after all, and that he'd feel some kind of comeuppance for ruining the only family his brother knows and remembers. And I was looking forward to Hyun Woo and Jung Eun getting back together, because they were cute. Now I'm not really sure why I'm still watching any of it, other than just to see how it all turns out.

I don't get rooting for Hyun Woo at all. The scale of his revenge is absurd and frankly unhinged. If Mr. Han is the primary offender, why does everyone related to him—three whole other families at least, who didn't have anything to do with Hyun Woo's dad's death—have to go through complete financial and personal ruin because of him? Hyun Woo is trying to get custody of a child taken away from her mother—revenge on the mother, who is admittedly horrible, but without any thought for the trauma to the child. He's trying to get the whole family to lose their home, including their octogenarian grandmother who had nothing to do with this whole mess. I don't care how petty and selfish and just plain intolerable most of the Han family are—and they mostly all fall somewhere between annoying and awful human beings—there's nothing they've done that warrants going nuclear on four generations of a family, especially when 3 generations of that family didn't actually do what they're being punished for.

Actually what Hyun Woo is doing is exactly what Mal Ja and the other folks who framed his father have done—on a MUCH bigger scale, and with eyes wide open and completely convinced his cause is just, which is way scarier. At this point I'm so disgusted with his character I think I'd actually be upset if Jung Eun ends up with him after all. I don't see how she could get back together with someone who thinks you can love someone and at the same time be trying to completely destroy everyone else they love.

Completely Agree with Your Comment. Scriptwriter has lost every kind of sense there.
I'm only watching Previews and few raw Youtube videos.

Hyun Woo think he is bringing justice by attacking innocent people. At 1st i thought he will change because of Jung Eun but when he almost killed Elder Son, It became evident that this revenge will go horrible and innocent people will face the worst brust of Hyun Woo's misguided view of Justice.

I hope he will get real justice served to him. He completely deserves it.

Idk if I'm the only one but I'm actually super disappointed with Strong Woman Do Bong-soon. Perhaps I went into it with inflated and slightly unfounded expectations but I thought, finally, that there would be a strong female lead who takes a traditionally male role and flips it on its head. I know there have been strong female leads in dramaland before but I just want to see them do all the "male hero" type things and see how gender dynamics would play with that and muddle things up.

Instead, we get a standard rom-com with a heroine who just happens to be physically strong. Now don't get me wrong, the romance is SUPER swoony because PHS is swoony. But idk. I feel like Bong-soon as a character seriously disappointed me. She's sympathetic enough - you felt for her struggles - but she's not strong or mature in the way that a cool hero character would be.

In the promos for this drama they said they wanted to explore female empowerment. I see that happening more in the character of Min-hyuk - for him, it's ok (and even awesome) for the heroine to be physically strong and badass. Therefore female physical strength is validated as a trait. However, Bong-soon herself is still just a typical female heroine. Though she has a good internal journey of finding self-worth, she doesn't discover and take on much responsibility outside of that. This was marketed as a female SUPERHERO drama, but I see none of that superhero arc.

I mean clearly this is just my own opinion. I'm happy that lots of people enjoy this show. I'm just disappointed. I wanted a part where some old mentor tells Bong-soon "With great power comes great responsibility". And who knows, maybe it will happen. I just don't know if it'll be worth it at that point.

I agree with you on Strong Woman - making some girl physically powerful does not equal powerful woman. It is more like some toned down version of Supergirl.

On the other hand, the lady cop in Whisper so far seems totally badass...

Most of them are watching for the OTP or maybe to be more exact, for Park Hyun Sik.

This drama made me disappointed because I wanted to watch this show to see Park Bo Young and strong female lead (I was expected it has some vibes similar to Ms Temper & Nam Jun Gi since it comes from the same PD). I didn't expected to see pure romantic comedy show like this.. Anyway, I will let those who enjoying it to do so. I have dropped it long time ago, today I clicked on the latest episode but unable to finish it even half. I just lost my interest totally imo. I am happy for rating success, but Park Bo Young deserves better written drama and role.

I agree with you about SW, she doesn't seem to use her powers in anything useful we're stuck with that psycho kidnapper story for the whole series I thought we will get over with that twist in few episodes then move to another twist so she could explore her powers by many experiences through the show and know how to make a good use of them to help others, but surprisingly it didn't happen and the kidnapper thing is getting boring, and for the gay manger it was funny at the beginning but it's getting repetitive now but I still laugh though because this actor is funny and good at what he's doing, they should've just kept this character for few scenes.
But on the other hand i like the gangsters and i still find them funny.

I stopped caring about the plot and enjoying the funny scenes, this show makes me laugh a lot so it's enough for me.

Yes. I wish Bong Soon's character was written much better. Because Min Hyuk's character is not the typical male drama lead, but sadly Bong Soon isn't subverting much kdrama heroine stereotypes other than those for brute strength.

Still, I am swooning along with the rest of Korea and my fellow Beanies on the Park Hyung Sik omo-his-eyes-are-windows-to-his-soul train. Lol.

But it could have been so much better.
I wish Bong Soon were more like the hero in Healer, and then Min Hyuk could be her Ahjumma from headquarters. Fighting the bad guys as the pink hoodie superhero, but we all know that the real person in charge was always ahjumma. ?

I have the opposite opinion that the show showing that being strong like bong soon doesn't mean you are above others,
that physical strong shouldn't be the only measure for categorizing if someone is better than other,

if bong soon is a man then people will flipped out and praise how this show tells how physical strength in man need to take into serious measure

bong soon is never portrayed as the strongest person in the show except for physical strength,
she is not smarter than bongki, can't get a job and complaint a lot,
even the kidnapper doesn't have super power yet bong soon can't catch him,

it's about balance and portrayed by small woman to show that no one can belittle others or above others.

Totally agree with you about SWDBS...I don't necessarily dislike Bong Soon as a heroine, but I don't particularly like her either.
I feel like her superhuman strength is not actually well integreated in her character. I mean, it makes sense that her superpower has given her more troubles than good things, but she still acts too meek given the fact that she has basically nothing to actually fear in her life.
What's more frustrating is that there are a lot of interesting roads they could take to develop her personality further, but instead they're just turning her into your stereotypical kdrama heroine and it really makes me mad.
The romance is cute, sure, but if it wasn't for PHS I would've checked out long ago (which is why I'm mostly skipping all the scenes that don't involve him).

I already have so much in my plate curently;

1. Perfect Wife - Jae Bok to Eun Hee "You're Psycho" and Bok Goo's sme at the end of epi 10 ???

2. Whisper - Yoon Ju is badass ??
3. Rebel - Ga Ryung has becomes a lot prettier after married. The three siblings need to meet each other soon ?

4. Super Family 2017 - lol I love the hospital scene too. It was so real. ?

5. Radiant Office - My dear cutie Doctor, who are you actually?

6. Saimdang - No Young Hak made me watch this again. Initially I was thinking to binge watch later after it finished but then after seeing NYH as Crown Prince, I dont think I can stop watching. Suprisingly I am now into the romance story between the OTP. SSH is quite good, since his character is not requiring some great skill in sageuk imo. He is just a man who is sincerely in love for only one woman eternally and this drama describing it beautifully. Lee Young Ae is wonderful as usual.

7. You're Too Much - thanks javabeans for saying it, I saw the netizens' reactions also quite good for Jang Hee Jin. I also think she is doing a very good job.

8. Father Is Weird - Lee Joon's character is funny but he somehow quite childish imo. I am more interested with siblings bickering for now and maknae and the cute guy started to get my attention a bit.

Watching casually Our Gabsoon and Father I'll Take Care of You. urghh next week Mystery Queen and Chicago Typewriter will start! Looks like I'll be watching these two as well. LOL.

I guess I'm one of the few not in a drama slump. I'm really enjoying:

Tunnel: I like the vibe and it didn't start as dark as I expected. Maybe leftover expectations because of Voice.

Perfect Wife: I realize this show isn't for everyone, but it is just different and all the actors are killing it. Also one of the strongest, most direct female characters I've seen in k-drama.

Radiant Office: The office shenanigans don't upset me. It did what a lot of dramas can't do; it built up an office full of characters and then seamlessly moved into a romance. The end of episode 5 is one of those laugh out loud scenes that totally and immediately changes a viewers perspective on a character...in 10 seconds.

Strong Woman: I'm in it for the two leads, but I am not in denial -- the rest of the drama is a mess. This writer should be on his or her knees thanking those two actors.

Watching one Chinese drama now, the remake of Jang Bori is Here (I a think...makjang family drama). I tend to fast forward through these things, but I'm 7 episodes in so we'll see. I have not seen the original so don't know if this is worth it or not.

Most looking forward to Park Hae Jin's new drama.

SWDBS

the plot speed up in ep 12 after much romantic cuteness of ep 9-11
and we got more action from our machiavellian bluebeard, at least.

Pity he isn't a gamer, couldn't have acted out his psychopathic tendencies by
playing GTA V or even better, DayZ. That's one twisted game.

Maybe folks who complain that the LGBT community isn't repesented right in the show are right,
but at this point i am glad they got represented at all.
In my uni and work i have gay&lesbian collegues,
but in the last 10 dramas i watched there were none, as if they don't exist in SK.

Wild Romance
Started watching, and it's awesome. Especially love the bickering of the leads.
I have a slight overdose of cotton-candy romances lately, so it's a welcome relief and great fun.
I hope the heroine won't turn into a quivering puddle unable to articulate words when she'll fall in love.

Whisper
LBY is a total badass. Love her in this role.

Tunnel
as for me, every moment Choi Jin-Hyuk doesn't play supernatural roles is a moment wasted.
He was sooo perfect as a gumiho. Good thing his career doesn't depend on me, i'd typecast poor CJH to play only demons,
vampires or ghosts- or any creature that appear in the folklore forever and evah.
His booming voice and his look, as if he's isolated from his surroundings even when he is in a crowd and
people enter his personal space makes him ideal for it.
But i'll take what i can get, after all, we have this supernatural aspect when he is
separated from his time and his Pure Sue wife.

Rebel: Loved it. Hurrah for Um Chumji!
Whisper: Depressing first eps., but Superb casting. Can't afford not to watch.
Liar and His Lover: Watched it mindlessly. Wish she was Jung Eun-ji.

Chief Kim: Funny and Feel-good to the end. I liked they decided not to pursue romance plot for CK.
Radiant Office: Getting interesting now that we saw Ha Suk-jin's other side.
Saimdang: Love Joseon story-beautiful.

Father Is Weird: Familiar Mom and dad couple from Life is beautiful. "they’re easy and familiar" -exactly.
Strong Woman DBS: I am losing interests
Tunnel: Loved it. Love Choi Jin-hyuk!

And I watched
Three Color Fantasy: ok with all three. Kim Seul-gi is always good.
Behind your smile: so-so
and rewatching Tomorrow with you.

The husband in the Perfect Wife definitely the worst husband of the year. I am glad Jae Bok doesn't give any hint she will come back to him. Please show don't go to that route.

Chief Kim- I am glad no romance too. I was a bit worried they will pair Ha Kyung and Yul together, but glad it is friendship too. Because from what I see, only Yul has some crush on her but not her. hee. The bromance is the best part + Myung Seok. I hope Junho and Myung Seok will become bigger actor after this.

Saimdang - Joseon's story is really beautiful. But I doubt there will be happy ending during Joseon - her husband really made me angry, so hopefully she will get happy ending in the current time.

-Tunnel: The plot is good, but not that special. The characters, though. They are all intriguing and I already dig the cops dynamic, be it from the past or present timeline. And I definitely love that unexpected, but much welcome Gwang-ho and maknae Sung-shik's reunion.

-Three Colors Fantasy: Universe's Star: It was unexpectedly touching and bittersweet, and feels grounded despite the fantasy premise. Ji-woo is such a revelation. She is great and even Suho is quite good here.

Tomorrow with You: Not the most satisfying of endings, but one of the most satisfying, romantic romances. Even the way Marin and SoJoon just say each other’s names make me feel swoony. It was a mix of perfect cast chemistry and character chemistry.

Perfect Wife: Jaebok continues to rock it as one of the most levelheaded and undramatic heroines in kdrama. Now that Eun Hee is making her intentions clearer, I’m a little worried that we won’t have enough story to last until episode 16, and the drama’s pace has been very good so far.

Radiant Office: Some of the office stuff is a little bit too messy for me, but I’m very invested in our 3 temps. Like someone else mentioned, it is a pretty breezy watch, which will be a good counterweight to Whisper. I’m really curious about what the doctor’s deal is!

Whisper: It is riveting and I am fascinated by the characters and by what tricks Lee Bo Young’s Young-joo has up her sleeve. I’m glad we get an anti-heroine-y heroine! Why should the boys have all the fun? It does feel a little tiring to watch since almost every scene is just. so. tense.

Chief Kim: Love it so much. The ending felt so good. I haven’t been this satisfied in some time. I love how the drama really paid tribute to ALL the characters and the behind the scenes people by having the show’s artist draw them out and putting them in the ending tag. My thoughts echo a lot of what HeadsNo2 was saying. While I was happy with the ending, I also felt really sad because odds are, I’ll never see a drama as consistently funny and joyful.

Father is Strange: Enjoying this drama a lot so far! I can’t get the image out of my mind of Lee Joon being wheeled into the ambulance in doggy position. I’m a little worried about the pregnancy storyline though. Yoo Joo is one of the very few unlikable characters in the show.

i'm also experiencing this painful drama slump. still only watching SWDBS for the OTP. in the earlier eps i cared enough to also watch the other scenes at least once but this week i just skipped right to the OTP bits only. the gangsters are just SO overused rn

one thing i noticed about PHS is, many of his dramas become a mess overall (HS,hwarang,SWDBS) but he always rose over the bad writing and become the main attraction- that's how strong his charm is. so i won't recommend him as someone who is a guarantee for good dramas (like LJS), but i could guarantee good acting. i ADORE minhyuk, yet as cute as PBY is,i pm love her bongsoon only because minhyuk loves her.. he is selling it hard enough for the both of them

definitely the writer. it's hard for actors to predict whether a drama would turn out good or bad in the beginning because the script was only part way done- probably around 4 eps, and they have to choose a project just based on that. then the writer would live-write the script as they go along, sometimes changing the story based on people's feedback. if the writer is not capable enough, what you'd get in the end is a mess. a good actor would usually rise above the bad writing though, and still receive good comments on their acting even though the drama fell to pieces.

that's why i don't blame LJS for example, for working so many times with park hye ryun, since he knows her writing capabilities and trust that the drama would turn out good no matter what. i also wish for PHS to get a solid script and star in a drama that i could actually love as a whole (i loved what happens to my family, i think it's his best drama to date)

but who am i kidding, basically i just want him on my screen as much as humanly possible lol

Put The K2 on my list.
Listened to part of the Podcast and got a little nervous.

Watched 4 episodes. Thoughts: Song Yoo-na can act. Chang-wook is sexy, but what's up with his lips? Are those injections or something? So that was Lee Seungi's "ideal type." Yoona is really skinny if she looks this thin on camera.
Peeked at some recaps. I'm right with the doctor on that umbrella scene. Was that a coat or dress she was wearing? Either way, it's a good look.

Watched more episodes. Thoughts: "Healer" is better. He had better chemistry with Park Min-young. Someone should check this writer/director's home to see if he's keeping any white-gowned women in there against their wills.

Watched another episode. Read part of Ep 16 Recap. Thoughts: Master Sung, I didn't expect that.

Watched up till episode 8. Thoughts: Making plans for other people's lives and don't even know what's going on. Why didn't they back out the room when he first started talking to her. Yoo-jin a b***, but I like her. Song Yoo-na is killing it.

Read Recaps for episodes 9 - 16. Thoughts: Might watch episode 16 to see Yoo-jin's final scenes. So was Young-Pal supposed to be Sleeping Beauty? I think I'll watch Healer again.

Final Thoughts: There's really nothing I want to see. Maybe I should just read or draw or something.

Amazingly I was on holiday and still managed to squeeze in:

Strong Woman DBS
I'm up to date except for Saturday's episode. Min Hyuk has the best swooniest lines, and his delivery is spot on, except that why oh why are they romancing at work?? My logical rational self can't swoon properky cuz well, he is still the boss.

Liar and his lover
I started this and marathoned up to Episode 3! It's fluffy and light and I'm enjoying it. Totally a guilty pleasure drama.
Though I admittedly always have a soft spot for the slightly misunderstood male lead who is highly capable.

Like Tae Kyung in You're Beautiful and Jerry Yan's character in Down with Love.

Lee Hyun Woo's character is right up there with them. Plus he looks a bit like Bogum, so it helps. Haha. (I'm shallow that way)

Coffee Prince
I finished it! Loved it. Am now a fan of Yoon Eun Hye.

Still need to finish Chief Kim and SKKS as well as omo omo I can't wait for Typewriter next week!!!

SWDBS: In the context of the drama, I don't mind that he's the boss. In context of real world, I'm not sure what to think. My aunt married her boss so I grew up unaware it was a problem, until I went outside the family bubble. I'm still struggling with the fact that it's wrong in my heart, even if my head can understand it.

Liar and his Lover: Watch episode 4 and suffer the wait for episode 5 like the rest of us. kkkkk. Just kidding. I'm so glad I found this drama through the recaps, it's my new happy drama.

Hwang taekwang is so iconic. I still remember him vividly. I miss that Jang Geunsuk. T___T

Coffee Prince: it's hazy in my mind, except for the kisses. kkkkk

Chief Kim: One of the most consistently good and funny drama I've seen. It's at the top of the list.

SKKS: When I rewatch it, I just watch Song joongki and Yoo ah in parts now. T___T

i don't think having a relationship with your boss is wrong per se, it all depends on the people involved. sure, it would take extra effort to keep the power balance equal (which is already quite unequal in man-woman relationship), and to keep work stuff and personal feelings separate. it's hard, especially if one is financially dependent on the other. not to mention the suspicion and judgement they'd get from their peers. it's easier if their partner is not directly connected to their own work, but the closer the connection, the more intense the pressure gets. most couples couldn't handle it, probably.

that said, bongsoon's current situation at work also bugs me. i have to remind myself that this is a drama, not RL lol

Oh don't get me wrong, I have no issue with her liking/loving the boss but I don't like that they are engaging in public displays of affection at work, immediately upon starting their relationship.

I don't like that he doesn't think that it will affect how her colleagues view her and how she just allows him to give her special treatment.

I have no issue with people falling in love regardless of work place status. But at least be professional about it and don't date and act couplely all the time while at work.

(Even though I LIKE watching Min Hyuk and Bong Soon be cute and all, I just wish they would be cute and swoony outside the office.)

Strong Woman Do Bong Soon I dropped or rather I stopped and never went back. I really wanted it to be good because I was in a mood for romantic comedies. Plus I like Park Bo Young and wanted to check out Park Hung Sik. I never expected to dislike or rather not feeling DBS at all. Worse, I was disappointed with PBY who I really liked in Oh My Ghostess. I don't mean she's bad, she is better than your average rom com actress but her acting in this drama came across as rather formulaic. It's like watching that few expressions formulated for each kind of emotion or situation. I know I am going to get hate for criticizing everyone's favorite actress. I put most of the blame on the writing because this character had so much potential but ended up being one note. Maybe there was nothing PBY could do to make it better.

My Father Is Strange I finished ep 5. Why did they make Yu Ri's character into the typical clingy female? Just because she slept with her old flame? I complained last week and still complaining because she didn't change. Tell me if she gets her spine back otherwise I will skip all her scenes and Ryu Soo Young. They are both very flawed characters but at least she was funny. He's just a douche bag with awful hair. I am most impressed with Lee Joon. His character is one which is easy to exaggerate but I agree with javabean's take on him. It's quite amazing to watch him do foot acting in the character and realize his acting is the exact opposite.

Rebel This week was very good and I think it's going to get even better from now on. One thing shocked me was the way women were treated in that era. I mean I've always known that women were treated like men's properties and objects rather than humans. But still it was disgusting to watch those men nodding their heads in approval and looking all self righteous about it. I doubt there were saviors like Gil Dong and group during those times to save the poor women.

Super Family 2017 I just love this show! It never fails to make me laugh plus it is so relatable.

Perfect Wife Just started this one. I like Jae Bok and the actress is totally new to me. She's good and so is Jo Yeo Jung. I last watched her in Babysitter, she's great at this kind of roles. Story wise, it's quite a mystery but it hasn't yet become addictive for me.

Radiant Office This show gets better and better. I didn't expect it to be able to balance sad and funny so well. Go Ah Sung is really awesome, I like that her acting is so natural.

Park Bo Young is actually great actress but I wish next time she will branch out. She needs to do other genre aside from romcom more - do thrillers, sageuk etc more. More than her acting, I was so disappointed with how this drama turn out to be.

I am glad you started Perfect Wife! hee. Jae Bok or Ko So Young is the wife of Jang Dong Gun. This is her comeback drama after 10 years. I also don't recall her drama that I have watched, if any.

Only watching SWDBS these days until I find the motivation(?) to watch something else... XD

Loved loved loved this week's eps!! Finally!! Lots of BS-MH times!! These two are seriously just too cute together!!! PBY and PHS are perfect as a pair!! Sorry that your heart had to break, my dearest puppy Jisoo. Wait until you nab a lead part. ❤️ Now, just focusing on getting the bad guy.

Mon-Tue Whisper, so tense and dark, not my kind of drama but wilk try to keep watching for the couple
Wed-Thru Radiant Office, the drama that make me cracked up after a while. I don't really care about the storyline at first, only watch for ha suk jin, but the others actor are pretty decent
Sat-Sun strong woman, it used to be fun but getting boring :(

I'm only watching Rebel and SWDBS right now. Both shows I look forward to though I have reservations about them both. I kind of wish the Hong Gil Dong actor was more charismatic, and the romance had more tension. And didn't like the second mighty child appearing - very contrived and abrupt. Otherwise it's fantastic. SWDBS - I forgive you show because of Min Hyuk. He and the leader of the gang seem to be the only well-written characters - or the actors are making them seem well-written. The villain has potential too. For the rest, I'm just hoping there's a point being made by the end of the show for all the clangor and weird gender role choices. I'd still recommend this show anyway because it's never truly boring.

I'm trying to decide between Radiant Office, Tunnel and Whisper for a third show. None of them grabbed me in their first episode. Anyone else feel that way but becoming pleasantly surprised at the show getting better in subsequent episodes? If so, please recommend!

Tunnel is getting better in the 2nd eps, imo. Our 3 leads have a vastly different personality, value, and approach whenever they need to solve a case that it create a much more interesting dynamic than what we see in the past timeline. Then there is also the time-travel aspect (plus hijinks) that I think is written quite well.

Just finished Tomorrow with You and the ending left me kinda bitter. That dad's sacrifice is not necessary. How can someone be happy over someone else's lost? *sigh*
Currently watching:
Father I'll Take Care of You; for Donghui - Seongjoon and sometimes Hyun Woo's part only. Kinda irritated by Jeong Eun. I don't get why is she so clingy to a man, considering she is an adult who loves travelling. I get that he is her first love (first crush to be exact), but at her age, she should know that expectation doesn't always meet reality. I wish she acted her age and try to solve the problem wisely instead of throwing herself to Hyunwoo and expect him to change all of sudden. His hatred is too deep to forget.
Saimdang.
I enjoy the early part when Saimdang and Lee Gyeom were still teenager.
Missing Nine.
I'm in 4th episode now and find it better and darker than I expected.

Plan to watch Tunnel and Whisper once they finished the first half broadcast. I hate waiting. ?
