Strong Woman Do Bong-soon: Episode 16 (Final)

All good things must come to an end, and it’s time to say goodbye to our beloved Bong-bong and Min-min. Thankfully with most of the obstacles out of the way, we get a lovely, uninterrupted hour full of snuggles, cuddles, and giggles… and that’s just from Min-hyuk. If ever there was an episode that was designed to bring closure, it would be this one, and of course it’s for the one show that I don’t want to end. I’ve fought tooth and nail against time, but here we are, at the finale, and I’m not ready!

EPISODE 16: “Final”

After successfully caging Jang-hyun, Min-hyuk drives Bong-soon home. Happy that he can relax now that the culprit is caught, he starts reminiscing about the first time he and Bong-soon met at the police station. Min-hyuk mimics how she had yelled at him for lying and sighs, “I’m saying this now, but that time you were really–”

Bong-soon’s snore cuts through his words and Min-hyuk gapes to see his tiny heroine has been passed out hard the whole time. Heh, saving the day sure is tiring. Still, Min-hyuk smiles and pats his sleeping beauty, chuckling as more snores fill the car.

At the station, Gook-doo is having a decidedly less cute conversation with the captured Jang-hyun. The two glare across the table at one another until Gook-doo asks why he kidnapped those women. Jang-hyun smirks and answers, “It was fun.”

Looking truly unhinged, Jang-hyun laughs to remember how all the women begged him to save them. He continues, “They obeyed well. When I said to starve, they starved. When I said to crawl, they crawled.”

Gook-doo (and I) can’t take anymore, and he lunges across the table at him. Cap rushes in and pulls the younger detective off… only to start kicking the psycho himself. Good! Kick harder.

The next day, Min-hyuk and Bong-soon return to work as normal, and Bong-soon shows Secretary Gong her game’s bad guy (aka, the secretary’s animated doppelganger). Secretary Gong still hasn’t put it together and muses that the character seems familiar somehow. Heh, Min-hyuk smirks over his shoulder while he and Bong-soon grin at Secretary Gong’s obliviousness.

Bellowing out his trademark “Do INTEEEEERN!” Min-hyuk calls Bong-soon over for a meeting. In order to prepare her for her rescheduled game presentation, Min-hyuk and Secretary Gong put her through a mock interview. She answers the questions well and Secretary Gong even gives her a tiny thumbs up.

Secretary Gong inquires about the end goal of the game, and Min-hyuk listens raptly as Bong-soon explains that Super Bbong-ssoon saves Prince Min-min and they live happily ever after. (Hah! She named the Prince Min-min!)

Secretary Gong clarifies to ask if the two characters will get married and have children, and Min-hyuk—clearly identifying with his namesake character—bashfully giggles. Bong-soon says that maybe that will happen in the game’s sequel, and Min-hyuk again dissolves into a pile of squeals and says they should hurry up and launch the game so they can get to the sequel.

Min-hyuk and Bong-soon talk about how her father hasn’t come home for a few days now, after running away from Mom. Min-hyuk promises to take care of it, though he’s not exactly sure how he’ll bring her wayward father home. Bong-soon smiles at his assurance and sweetly ruffles his hair, calling him adorable. Her cuteness sets him off again and he swoops in for some snuggles.

Meanwhile, Mom grumps to her ladies about how she shouldn’t have to go looking for her husband when he’s the one who ran away. Mom’s friends try to delicately point out all of her past abuse towards Dad, but Mom scoffs, revealing that she never actually hit Dad: They had been pushing each other during an argument and he slipped and hit the corner of the counter. Mom yells that she hasn’t beat anyone up since she was 18, claiming that words are her only weapon.

Our crafty CEO manages to locate Dad’s camping grounds and the two crack open some soju bottles. Min-hyuk tries to steer Dad towards going back home, but Dad flat out refuses. He keeps pushing and when Dad asks what the hurry is, Min-hyuk answers, “I want to marry Bong-soon.” (Omo!) Dad chokes on his soju and Min-hyuk seriously asks Dad for permission to marry his daughter.

Min-hyuk devolves into pouting as he whines that he wants to marry Bong-soon as soon as possible and Dad’s camping adventure is preventing his future nuptials. “If your rebellion drags on, then my wedding will get pushed back!” Hah!

Dad calls him crazy and Min-hyuk agrees that he’s losing his mind without Bong-soon. Wiggling back and forth like a giant toddler, he cries, “I really like Bong-soon to death!” He even volunteers to go jump in the lake right now if Dad wants him to.

Dad can’t help but laugh at his fervor, but he seriously asks if Min-hyuk can promise to treat his daughter well. Min-hyuk giggles that that’s not a problem: “If I do something wrong, then I’d be the one who gets hit—” Dad glares, and Min-hyuk takes back the joke and earnestly swears that he will take care of Bong-soon.

Dad asks what it is that Min-hyuk likes so much about Bong-soon. He gets quiet, then softly responds, “Bong-soon is me. I feel like if she exists, I do too. And if she doesn’t, I don’t either.” Min-hyuk sincerely thanks Dad for raising Bong-soon with so much love and care, but promises that he’ll now take on that responsibility and make her happy.

Hee-ji meets with Bong-ki and reveals that she’ll be leaving for Vienna to play in an orchestra there. Bong-ki has already heard, but he doesn’t seem too torn up about it. He tells her that thanks to his sister, he’s started believing that everyone has someone they are fated to be with, and one day they’ll meet their destined person. Hee-ji’s face falls a bit and she asks if that means the two of them aren’t fated to be together. Bong-ki doesn’t say anything, but they both appear to accept that they’re not meant to be.

Later, Bong-soon strolls with Kyung-shim and tells her, “Do you know what happens when you’re fated? When you look into that person’s eyes, you can see yourself, and the me reflected in there is happy.” She calls it the power of fate and Kyung-shim jokes that she’s jealous of her and Min-hyuk. Heh, the two take a moment to note that the neighborhood has become really clean lately. Something tells me Bong-soon’s kiddos have been through there.

That night at the Do house, Bong-soon opens the door to find a slightly tipsy Min-hyuk delivering home a completely wasted Dad. After Dad gets deposited on the couch, Mom refuses to let Min-hyuk go straight home and not so subtly pushes the two young things upstairs. She glares a bit at her inebriated husband, but worries when she sees how dirty his hands are, wondering where he’s been.

Bong-soon brings Min-hyuk up to her room, and Min-hyuk grins to see her bed. He heads straight for it, asking if it’s the place where she called him Min-min for the first time, and plops down on the bed. Min-hyuk reminds Bong-soon that he brought Dad home like he promised, asking if he did a good job. She obliges him with some head pats and he gets a devilish glint in his eye.

Min-hyuk slowly pulls her towards him and says that surely Mom wouldn’t come up here and disturb them with fruits or anything, right? Of course, at exactly that moment Mom does in fact barge right in with fruit, putting a kink in their canoodling as they spring apart.

Mom grins at the pair and offers that Min-hyuk is welcome to stay the night, but a mortified Bong-soon shoos her out. Min-hyuk, on the other hand, is pleased as punch at the invitation and slinks towards his girlfriend once more. He reaches for her saying, “So now, no one will come in and bother us, right?” He leans in for a kiss… and the door bursts open as Bong-ki comes in to see his noona. Everyone freezes, then the thwarted couple awkwardly shuffles past the stunned little brother.

Heh, Bong-soon walks Min-hyuk out and he’s adorably pouty about the lack of smooches and having to go home alone. She gives him a quick cheek peck, and he giggles before kissing her back. She sweetly tells him to hurry up and go home so she can find him in her dreams and Min-hyuk pulls her in for a hug. They keep telling each other to leave first, but neither lets go of the embrace.

Oh boy, it seems that the mysterious monk Nizamuddin is actually a not-so-mystical Korean scam artist named Jo Dal-bong. Boss Tak loses his mind to learn that his beloved master was actually embezzling money from him. Well, I can’t say I’m surprised.

Now that their perp has been caught, Gook-doo’s police team has returned to life as normal. As for the infamous Jang-hyun, he is sentenced to life imprisonment with no chance of parole. He gets tossed into a tiny cell of his own and quickly loses what little sanity he has left, rolling on the floor and screaming like the crazed villain he is. Damn, that’s satisfying.

At the same time, Bong-soon folds her pink sweatshirt and puts it away in the strength cubby. She smiles and proudly thinks, “That guy, I caught him with my own hands.”

Hah! To cover for Bong-soon, Min-hyuk had to claim the credit for catching Jang-hyun, which is how he finds himself standing in front of the police station receiving a Citizen Hero award. He looks bewildered and decidedly uncomfortable as Gook-doo’s grinning station chief slings his arm around him, posing for reporters and gushing about the police force and common citizens working together.

Min-hyuk skulks away and goes over to grouch to Bong-soon about how embarrassing the whole thing is. She tuts sympathetically, but cheerfully notes, “You will have to receive a lot of rewards for me in the future, though…”

Gook-doo smirks at the frazzled CEO and patronizingly tells him to cooperate well with the police in the future, adding that he’s just been promoted to the Gangnam police station. Bong-soon gently coaxes her man away, and he pouts at his award again, stomping his feet in agitation.

The time has finally come for Bong-soon to present her video game to the Planning and Development Team. She starts out a bit rough, but in the end she does a great job and it’s well-received. As she presents, Min-hyuk gazes at her, remembering all their moments together and reliving their journey from strangers, to coworkers, then friends, and finally lovers.

At the walnut shop, Mom and Dad seem to have patched things up and happily work side-by-side behind the counter. Mom tells him that she looked up Bong-soon and Min-hyuk’s compatibility and it’s “really, really good.” (No surprise there.) Mi-hwa stops by the store and this time Mom doesn’t interfere as the two have a pleasant conversation — though she does glare. Baby steps.

Gook-doo and Bong-soon meet up and reminisce over the old days when they were still in school. He asks if she remembers the time in high school when he said he liked girls who were like flowers. Bong-soon good-naturedly scoffs and sighs that of course she remembers; because of those words, she lived trying to be delicate and fragile, hiding her strength.

Gook-doo watches her sadly then softly calls her an idiot. He tells her that he had been talking about her that day, muttering, “I purposely said it so you could her me.” Bong-soon smiles wistfully, saying she had no idea. Gook-doo turns to her and almost regretfully adds, “I would have liked every side of you.” Ooof! Where was this fifteen episodes ago?!

Taking a breath, he continues on to say that he’s glad he has someone as foolish and warm like her… as a friend. He sincerely asks her to be happy, and Bong-soon smiles back to say, “You too. Be happy, too.”

Gook-doo and Bong-ki meet up to play basketball and they have an athletic heart-to-heart, Bong-ki apologizing for everything with Hee-ji. Gook-doo lets it go, but he stops playing to ask why his friend never told him about Bong-soon’s crush. Bong-ki doesn’t understand, saying that Gook-doo had to have known about it since his sister was so obvious. (It’s what I’m sayin’!)

Gook-doo reveals that he never knew, dejectedly saying that he liked Bong-soon as well, but didn’t know it until too late. Bong-ki looks apologetic but asks, “If I’d have told you, would you two be any different now?” Gook-doo doesn’t have an answer, and Bong-ki calls for another round of play, both friends shaking off the dark mood.

Bong-soon, Min-hyuk, and Secretary Gong are all waiting on pins and needles when Dong-pyung strolls in and nonchalantly announces that he will allow Bong-soon to join the Product and Development team and create her game under his supervision. Dong-pyung jangles his wrist of silverware jewelry at Bong-soon and tells her, “Not bad,” then saunters out with a wave, leaving all three to celebrate.

As a farewell bid to Kwang-bok, we find him ranting and raving in a dentist office, irate at having to wait. Then a gorgeous dentist comes out and the toothless gangster gapes at the pretty, dropping his dentures and a considerable amount of drool. Last we see of him, he’s happily gazing up, gap-toothed and smiling at the lovely dentist.

Min-hyuk drives into the office, but nearly runs over Bong-soon’s kiddos who have come to confront the boyfriend of their noonim. The high-schoolers all gape to see Min-hyuk’s car park itself (ah, the magic of PPL) and Min-hyuk raises an eyebrow at the Bong-soon Noonim title.

He takes the boys out for food and listens in astonishment as they proclaim Bong-soon to be their leader and mentor: “She is our hope, our light, and hero! She is the eternal peace in our heart.” Pffft. The leader demands to know if Min-hyuk is serious about their noonim and wants him to promise not to hurt her. Min-hyuk just admonishes them to study hard rather than worrying about Bong-soon’s love life.

The leader tries to reassert that Min-hyuk has to promise not to hurt their Bong-soon, but the food arrives and they all dig in like the constantly hungry teenage boys they are. Min-hyuk just shakes his head at the group, at a loss for how to deal with Bong-soon’s acolytes.

Min-hyuk comes back to find that Bong-soon has vacated her playpen to move to the Planning and Development team room. He sighs sadly at the empty desk, but then he finds the note she left behind, cutely calling him Team Leader and thanking him for all he has done for her. She signs it “Do Intern.” Awww.

He looks in on the Planning and Development team and smiles too see Bong-soon happily reporting to Dong-pyung. He frowns a bit when Dong-pyung starts berating Bong-soon, but she takes it all with a smile, even fetching tossed pens and handing them back respectfully.

Min-hyuk gets called out by Gook-doo, who wastes no time in grabbing Min-hyuk by the collar and threatening him to treat Bong-soon right. (Goodness, isn’t anybody going to warn Bong-soon to treat Min-hyuk right?) Gook-doo states that Bong-soon is his friend, and while he really doesn’t like Min-hyuk, he’ll give him a chance to make her happy and watch how he does.

Min-hyuk has had enough and throws off Gook-doo’s arm and yells that Gook-doo will just drive himself crazy and die while watching. The words seem to hit home for Gook-doo and he turns away. Both boys are silent until Gook-doo, not looking at Min-hyuk, starts listing off things that Bong-soon likes, like spicy food and mountains, and how she’s allergic to peaches. Min-hyuk loses some of his smirk to realize that this is Gook-doo giving him permission and bowing out.

Gook-doo strides off, but stops to call back that if Bong-soon can’t sleep at night then he should make her read a book — that should put her out. He stalks away, leaving Min-hyuk stuttering at the punk who just gave him advice about how to put his own girlfriend to bed. He rants that he has no manners till the very end and shouts, “I can’t like him even if I tried!”

Sometime later, Bong-soon boards a bus and sees a grandpa and grandson playing her video game. As she watches them playing she thinks, “I finally accomplished my dream. Developing a game with a main character based on myself. Even though I hide as a strong woman, it was my dream to create a character based on how I lived.”

Bong-soon travels to work and continues to narrate that she can’t live like the Bbong-ssoon in her game. She comes across an injured cyclist trapped under a car and persuades the bystanders to help her lift the car, camouflaging how she actually lifts it up all on her own. Her rescue is caught on camera and the kiddos watch it online, singing the “super power girl” theme song in support of their noonim.

Unfortunately, saving innocents is time-consuming and Bong-soon ends up being late for work. She tries to sneak past Donh-pyung but fails miserably, getting shrieked at as he rages that his most strict rule is prompt attendance. Well, this could be a problem.

Min-hyuk joins the Do family for a camping adventure and everyone gets along like one big family (Kung-shim included). Min-hyuk sighs happily when Bong-soon feeds him a lettuce wrap, and even Mom and Dad get in on the cute with Mom feeding her husband.

Afterwards, Bong-soon and Min-hyuk go for a walk, and she wistfully says that she wants to protect the laughter of the people she loves. Min-hyuk cautions that her heart is in the right place, but she can’t save everybody. Luckily, Bong-soon has learned that she can’t save the world on her own, “But I really want to use this strength for good since it returned.”

Min-hyuk wonders how he managed to fall in love with such a great woman, and Bong-soon agrees, joking that she told him she was a “Femme hommtale.” He promises that he’s always on her side, and Bong-soon in turn says that she’s going to protect him too, just like the hooded girl in his painting.

Bong-soon continues to use her strength to anonymously help others… and continues to get caught by Dong-pyung for being late. She laments, “After I decided to use my strength for good things, 24 hours in a day was too short for me.” Still, she uses every spare moment to run off and save everyone, from grandmas pulling heavy carts to escaped elephants.

Her tardiness is finally too much for Dong-pyung and he complains to Min-hyuk about Bong-soon’s many unexplained absences, working himself into a tizzy while Min-hyuk just nods, already aware of the reasons behind her disappearances. Dong-pyung huffs that he can’t take it anymore and screams, “Because, I am a lady!” while leaping up to strike a dramatic pose for emphasis.

Having said (and acted out) his piece, Dong-pyung calmly states the he will kick Bong-soon off the Planning and Development Team. He sweeps out theatrically, leaving Min-hyuk hanging his head over his frustrating girlfriend.

Freshly fired from her dream team, Bong-soon shuffles into Min-hyuk’s office where he glowers at her. Secretary Gong asks if this means she’ll be working here again, and Bong-soon contritely answers that she’s returning to being an intern once again. Min-hyuk grumps that he doesn’t know if he should welcome her or comfort her right now, but Bong-soon answers that working here is much more comfortable for her and she fits in perfectly as an intern.

Grinning, Bong-soon hops up to her annoyed boyfriend and cheerfully reminds him of the last time she started as an intern and he wanted to throw a party — should they throw one now? Min-hyuk tries to stay angry, but Bong-soon pours on the cuteness, coyly asking what she should do if he’s mad at her. The guy doesn’t stand a chance and smiles against his will, wondering what’s with her today. She just keeps beaming up at him and Min-hyuk loses it, ecstatic to see his Bong-bong being so adorable.

The completely ignored Secretary Gong watches all of this and awkwardly calls out that he’ll just be leaving, then. The two are caught up in their lovey dovey moment and don’t even register his exit. Secretary Gong just shakes his head at the once stern CEO, who’s currently bouncing up and down with happiness.

Bong-soon and Min-hyuk head out together that night, keeping up a professional front as they formally bid each other a good night in the lobby. They head off in separate directions… for about five steps, then run right back to each other using their nicknames. The pair’s antics are observed by Dong-pyung and Secretary Gong, and even the office Crazy Bitch has to admit that the two are adorable, sighing that he’s jealous.

Bong-soon continues to write her story in her strength journal and Dad encourages her to keep writing and be careful as she uses her powers. Pulling her in for a hug, he tells her that he likes Min-hyuk. Dad says that even though he cherishes his daughter more than the world and he’s a little jealous that someone else out there loves her as much as he does, he’s decided to coolly approve of the two of them. Awww.

With tears in his eyes, he wonders when his girl grew up so much, admitting that it’s time to let her fly free. “Open up your heart. Live and do everything you want to do.” Both of them are tearing up as Bong-soon thanks her Dad for everything. He thanks her back and they hug again. Great, now I’m crying, too.

The next day, Min-hyuk asks Bong-soon out on a date (via a stuffy and sticky note left on her desk). They walk together under the falling cherry blossoms and Bong-soon asks when it was that Min-hyuk first started liking her. He smiles and answers that it was the first time he saw her, and then again at the police station.

Bong-soon wonders how he could have waited for her that long, but Min-hyuk responds, “I waited until your heart completely came to me. But… I was happy while waiting for you. Also, I had confidence, since we were fated to be together.” Bong-soon scrunches her nose at the cheesy line, but smiles anyways.

They walk on through the falling petals and Min-hyuk asks that they come back here next year, and the year after, and even ten years after that. The long timeframe makes Bong-soon pause and she reminds him of when they were on the rooftop and he had refused to leave her alone with the bomb. Min-hyuk had said he had to tell her something. Now, she asks him what it was wanted to say.

Min-hyuk gazes down at her and answers, “It seems like I can’t live without you for a single moment. Let’s be together forever.” He smiles slightly then takes a box out of his jacket pocket. (Omo!) He pulls out a ring and gently slides it onto Bong-soon’s finger. Holding her hand, he gives her a hopeful smile, and Bong-soon beams back, her answer in her eyes.

Min-hyuk leans down and the two kiss amidst the falling cherry blossoms. Kyaah! I am a puddle. A happy, squealing, heart-shaped puddle.

We cut to the happy couple’s wedding day, and Min-hyuk bursts into the prep room and stares at the Bong-soon in her beautiful dress, literally at a loss for words. He flutters around in typical Min-hyuk fashion, falling to his knees in front of her as she grins at him. The Do family joins them and Dad is crying happy tears to see his daughter in her wedding dress.

Boss Tak and his underlings stop by, shades on and an envelope of money for the happy couple in hand. (Jaws: “It’s clean money.”) Even Dong-pyung and Secretary Gong show up, Dong-pyung squealing and trying to take selfies with Min-hyuk. He actually punches Secretary Gong when he tries to edge in on the picture. Then Gook-doo comes in and calls Bong-soon pretty, and immediately Min-hyuk gets pissy, refusing to shake Gook-doo’s hand.

It’s time for the ceremony, and Dad walks Bong-soon down the aisle where Min-hyuk waits, looking like all his dreams have come true. Dad hugs Min-hyuk and hands off his precious daughter. The two stand before the altar, each looking like they’re trying to hold back tears of joy. Afterwards, they walk down the aisle, smiling happily at one another, husband and wife.

The post-ceremony pictures really take the cake, though: Mom whacks Dong-pyung for getting grabby with her son-in-law, Dong-pyung chucks flowers at the pair to stop Bong-soon from kissing his man, and the entire gathering reaches out in shock as Bong-soon lifts her husband up in a bridal carry (Min-hyuk grins like he couldn’t ask for more).

Time passes, and soon Mom is back at the temple, this time praying for Bong-soon to have a son, “So that our flower-like son-in-law can sleep peacefully.” Mom argues that there is no rule saying their family has to have daughters in every generation and asks that the couple have a boy so they can live tranquilly. The giant statue of Buddha (the same statue that Bong-soon spun around in her younger years) grins widely. Uh oh.

We cut to Min-hyuk racing down the hall in the hospital to join the Do family as Bong-soon is in labor. He frets like the nervous soon-to-be father he is, and Kyung-shim asks Mom again if she’s sure that Bong-soon will have a son. Mom looks anxious as she says that of course she is, then we hear the sound of a baby crying and everyone jumps for joy. Min-hyuk calls out, “Bong-soon-ah!”

As the baby crying echoes, we transition to Min-hyuk standing in his office afterwards, looking stunned as Secretary Gong asks him what’s so bad about having twin daughters. HAHAH! Two girls? That’s amazing. And Poor Min-hyuk. He ekes out that this is just his happy face, but he has the same look as when he was given the Hero Citizen award.

Min-hyuk calls Boss Tak — who is currently breaking ground for his redevelopment project — and cashes in a favor. Next thing we know, Jaws and his buddy are dressed up like wet-nurses and sporting matching black eyes as they dodge super baby fists and beg Bong-soon’s crying daughters to drink their bottles. It doesn’t go well.

The babies literally toss away their sitters, and Min-hyuk comes into the nursery to find the tough guys sobbing. He can barely get a word in before the two scram, and he’s left to face-palm in despair. Min-hyuk gingerly leans down to feed his daughters, cooing at his two “princesses,” but he lasts about two seconds before a tiny fist flings up and punches him right in the eye. Dang, they have good aim.

As Daddy Min-hyuk reels from his daughters, Mommy Bong-soon is busy lifting a giant water bin off a pinned construction worker. Min-hyuk, now sporting his own shiner, calls his wife and she exasperatedly reminds him not to call her when she’s working. Her frazzled husband whimpers, “What am I supposed to do when the babysitters ran away?” Bong-soon gasps to hear that they both bailed, and Min-hyuk sniffles into the phone, “What about me? What should I dooo?”

Bong-soon, wearing her pink hoodie, walks across a rooftop and surveys the city. She narrates, “The world still needs someone to fight the bad. So that our children can live in a better world.” A news screen on an opposite building reports that a terrorist has taken innocents hostage, and Bong-soon narrows her eyes.

She pulls down her hood and takes a mighty leap off the building, plunging dozens of stories and landing on the pavement like the superhero she is. She looks up and declares, “I will go. I am Strong Woman Do Bong-soon! Fighting!”

COMMENTS

It’s over! Oof, my heart. I feel like Min-hyuk: What do I dooo? To be fair, this was a wonderful episode that beautifully wrapped up all our main storylines and provided a copious amount of fan-service in the form of Bong-soon and Min-hyuk being constantly adorable. I suppose I couldn’t ask for more, except maybe for it to never end. Is that too greedy?

I think we can all agree that this show was far from perfect, and I acknowledge that there were several things that I could have done without, the main one being Boss Tak’s entire storyline. This really was a prime example of a character forced into a story simply because they were portrayed by a famous actor. There really was no point to him aside from providing comedic fodder, and while I can appreciate that he had potential early on in the series, he completely ceased to be interesting by the halfway point. Still, I was never that disappointed by him, simply because I never really cared about him.

On the other hand, I am frustrated that we never learned more about our villain. I found Jang-hyun to be incredibly well acted (especially given that this was the actor’s first drama), but the character itself wasn’t rounded out enough. A truly well done bad guy is one that has me relating and understanding, which should then make me freak out because I just related and understood (a la I Hear Your Voice). Even though it was really satisfying to see Jang-hyun going crazy in that cell, I still have a number of questions: Why was he so obsessed with that play? Whose house was it that he stashed Kyung-shim in? What about that music box sound that the first victim told Gook-doo about? How did he even go crazy in the first place? There was just no depth to the villain, so while he was terrifying, I was never as engaged as I would have liked. Which is a shame, because Jang Mi-kwan acted the heck out of what was essentially a 2D character.

Something I was surprised to have been so affected by was Gook-doo and Bong-soon’s “goodbye.” I fully support our main couple and truly believe that they are soulmates, fated, meant to be; all that good stuff. But, my heart does hurt for Gook-doo and what could have been had they not missed their chance. He really was a good guy and could have been a great match for Bong-soon, especially given his line, “I would have liked every side of you.” Their goodbye was also so well done; it really made me feel the poignancy of two people letting go of their first loves. Contrary to what dramas teach us, first loves rarely last a lifetime, and it was great to see the honesty of what happens when you outgrow that first person and transition from loving them, to loving the memory being in love.

Still, I maintain that whatever could have been between Bong-soon and Gook-doo could not have been as wonderful as what she shares with Min-hyuk. This show was certainly not without flaws, but it gave us what has easily become one of my top five drama couples of all time. I could gush on and on about these two (and have), but right now, I just can’t believe that I have to say goodbye to them. I’m so sad to leave this world and the beautiful couple it shared with us. At least there is some solace in knowing that whenever we miss them, we can start at the beginning and watch Strong Woman Bong-soon and her Prince Min-min fall in love all over again.

Do Bong-soon, fighting!

Gosh I just love the way our Minmin giggles like he's totally wrapped around BS's fingers!! This is not a perfect drama, but a perfectly enjoyable one.

Just a few things observation on the final episode:
1. Where is MH's family in the wedding?! Wish his side had a better closure.
2. BS not focusing in her work. I mean she worked hard for that spot but she just goes to work late and leaves at her own will? I'll find that irritating if I'm one of her officemates. Guess she left work eventually and focused on her superhero career~
3. I wish we were given a cute and warm family scenes instead of Minmin getting kicked by the babies (it was hella funny though). Poor Minmin! I hope BS would have busied herself in child rearing and made her superhero career a side line, even just for the meantime.

Those aside, I love the ending <3

"Where is MH's family in the wedding?"

Completely disappeared from planet Earth.
I was a bit disappointed that Min Hyuk's family didn't even get a closure. This sort of highlights how useless the brother's threats were at the start of the show. They didn't even bother to address it.

I was also looking for her "gang". I was really surprised they disappeared too ... but I guess they graduated. The "second in command" looked thirty ?

He broke off all ties with his family. That's the only reason for their absence. But it's still ridiculous...the father should have been there...he loved MH.

When did he break off the ties? When he quarreled with his dad at the hospital? I thought that was a tantrum!

I second the wish for a cute and warm family scene. I LOVED the last episode (watched it throughout with a stupid silly grin on my face!) but was a little sad it ended on a harassed and whiney Min Hyuk... would have loved Bong Soon to come home to rescue and protect him!

Maybe, i'm the one who thinks the wedding scene look so uncompleted because there is none of min hyuk family in the wedding....i just think like "what in the world is a wedding without one of groom family.....but there are also one scene that i like a lot...thats when Bong soon said ....
“Do you know what happens when you’re fated? When you look into that person’s eyes, you can see yourself, and the me reflected in there is happy.”
i think anyone here would feel so grateful, swoony, and happy if there a person who told that words....
But anyway..its time to say goodbye to this show ...i also hope Hyung Sik and Bo Young would meet again in another drama

The entire world knew that she liked him, except Gook doo...he said it was because he was feeling such intense feelings about her it blinded him to he feelings about him. I felt this was odd, because from the early episodes, he treated her with gruffness and didn't in the least show that he had any romantic feelings toward her. He only started to like her after MH came into the picture. Now he's telling us that he was in love with her in high school and that she was Miss Cosmos. I feel confused.

I think it's somewhat in line with Gook-doo's development (somewhat, because we all know how shoddy this drama is with characterisation). He was gruff with Bong-soon early on as a mask for his concern - his beef with her was the same as Min-hyuk's, that she always got herself into scraps and he was worried. But Gook-doo being Gook-doo, he didn't know how to express his concern with finesse, so he got gruff and huffy.

Also, Gook-doo was always shown to be too absorbed in his own issues that he neglected just about everyone else around him - his police colleagues, who had to teach him about teamwork; Hee-ji, until she broke up with him and said she felt he always had someone else; and also Bong-soon, who was in love with him all this while but he never noticed. Min-hyuk's appearance, Hee-ji leaving him, and Bong-soon herself asking Gook-doo what she really meant to him finally prompted Gook-doo to look into himself to actually realise those feelings and take action, but by then it was too late.

I really agree with what you said. GD kinda lives in his own bubble and isn't quite attuned to his surroundings or people around him. He's got this one-track mind, which is why he seemed so oblivious to BS's feelings when it was blatantly obvious to everyone else.

I think he never took that step cuz he didn't know how BS felt, and he probably thought that at least as a friend, he could sorta just stay by her side "forever." Without him taking that risk to confess, and without hearing any direct words of "I like you" from BS, he never realized how she really felt.

I think it's one of those things where you wonder about how the other person feels, and even if you suspect that person might share your feelings, you still hold back cuz you don't know for sure without it being spelled out to you, and you don't wanna jeopardize the relationship in the event that those feelings are not reciprocated. The friendship will become awkward and they might even drift apart. Maybe the fear of that possibly happening deterred him from digging deeper into his own heart to find an answer, and he just dated other girls instead.

I always felt he's more of a reactive person instead of proactive when it comes to love. Most likely, no other male ever came along to rival him for BS's attention since she doesn't have any other guy friends who's as close to her as he is. But when MH showed up, things changed and caused him to become more aware of why he is always getting upset at BS. It's just him being very concerned yet unable to convey those feelings in a gentle way that would let BS clue in that he really does care about her.

When gook do said he doesn't know bong soon like him, i kinda understand that. Just like bong soon doesn't realize gook do like her, they just too busy carrying their own feeling.

It could be a nonsense reasoning but It makes me think thatsomething like this can really happen. You're too used with it that it feels no special but once it's taken away, you'll then realized how precious it was.

I'm really sad that this drama has come to an end because Min-min and Bong-bong!! :( I was curious about the villain too, like where'd he come from and what's his story and although we'll never find out, I just wanna say that I love the actor! He did so well I'm wishing he gets a second lead role soon!!! I want to see him as a sweet gentleman or something similar that way, I won't feel bad loving him. Haha.

I love how they ended the drama though! Fan service at its best! Wedding, and twin baby girls?? Daddy Min-min??? How adorbs!!! Anyway, I'll miss looking forward to weekends for episodes of this drama but then, we can all just rewatch this! Heh.

Warning: OBLIGATORY FINAL EPISODE RANT AHEAD. I could fill at least a page, probably more in analysis of everything this drama didn’t do, shouldn’t have done and could’ve done better. In short though, there is, you know, the usual:

#1 My superbly acted and creepy as villain was turned into cookie cutter plot device super hero villain material with no backstory *cries because his backstory could’ve been amazing* *please be in another drama soon Jang Mi-kwan*
#2 The mum + dad issue was kinda glossed over without really being addressed properly and I’m a little salty even if they were kinda cute at the end… but gerrr
#3 My twin-brother-to-a-superhuman was sorely underdeveloped. Idk man, Bong Ki was just so cool. And sweet. And attractive… *ahem*
#4 My angry cop… too be honest, GD’s writing was a leeetle all over the place. He was all pushy and yelly at the start, and he showed serious anger issues the whole way through, but then he was all sweet (to BS anyway) at the end, and I … where was that GD at the start? I might have actually had SLS if that GD had been at the start??
#5 The editing was jerky. The storyline went nowhere in the middle. The plot points were poorly thought out, and executed, and left a lot riding on the audience to fill in gaps, and the mythology was not fleshed out well, to say the least.
#6And don’t even get me started on the wasted screen time of monks, gangs, hospitals, doppelgangers, high schoolers, tertiary characters that came in half way through and suddenly became secondary characters, redevelopment politics, family members that disappeared after the first half, dropped plot lines and character points and goodness knows what else.
#7Secondary characters as plot devices yay…
#8My crime fighting, kickass trio that could’ve been. Or my creepy psych thriller that could’ve been. Or both. Both is good too.

And I feel like many people probably enjoyed the last episode cos it was fluffy and pretty and kinda but kinda not tied everything up in a nice, extremely pink, rose smelling bow, with the intention that people will just remember the sweet stuff, and be happy, and then there is me thinking about how dismally this show failed in almost every regard except for the main couple and episode 15… (raise your hands if this is you also)
I mean, I enjoyed watching it (mostly). But I was only watching it for Minhyuk at the end there really.

The whole thing kind of felt like a giant hodge podge of ideas and messages that didn’t end up gelling very well, due to the writers lack of skill, and the only constant was our lovely, bickering main pair. Except even then… I’m sorry, but what even was that last scene with the twins?? Like, we could’ve just ended with ‘IT’S TWIN GIRLS’; that’s enough of a gag. We don’t need everything else… and it pushed the characters in a direction I don’t think was needed, while not even being particularly in...

At #1.. thank you, I don't understand why they didn't develop the villains backstory, apparently he had a abusive AF mother which well coupled with his interrogation scene and cell scene makes total sense, but I only read that online, wish we actually got to see that. well at least I got to know the actor. And yess, comeback soon jang mi kwan, he so good and this was his debut role. He got a fan in me that for sure. and they could have done a better job at the superheroin origin story. Also gook du was very underdeveloped as a character, what a waste and those filler scene, were so annoying.

I personally adored all the fan service surrounding the relationship of the 3 leads to each other in the last episode! I agree with you, though, that the writing and plotting of the show overall was largely chaotic and nonsensical.

1) I have to disagree with you about anything to do with the villain's storyline. I found it jarring and unpleasant, and fast-forwarded through all his scenes, so more of his story would never have been better for me. (P.S. Dramafever's subs say he was sentenced to death, which was another unpleasant intrusion on a fluffy, happy rom com wrap-up.)

2) I think Bong Soon's parents' storyline was glossed over, too. While I would like to believe we were all wrong about their relationship, I flat-out don't believe her mother didn't hit her father--we've seen it with our own eyes.

I also wish we didn't end with Min Hyuk getting a black eye from his daughter. That kind of abusive humor, that the show has used consistently, just really sits wrong with me.

I adore the relationship between our eccentric main couple, though, and would gladly watch an OTP cut of the show!

I cried at the end ... not because I was sad it was over. I cried because I thought it was "happy ever after" and it looked like MH was going to live a life of misery. Why leave him at home with 2 daughters when you know he can't handle it. (Ever hear of birth control if you rather have a career?) it wasn't funny. Her father getting abused was NOT funny!!

No, I don't think that's funny at all, either.

Luckily, baby years don't last that long (though early parent years sometimes feel like an endless hazing of sleep deprivation tending to unreasonable creatures, lol).

This would have been a perfect time for Bong Soon and Min Hyuk to get down on their knees and BEG her grandmother to babysit for them (at least until the little ones are old enough to be somewhat reasonable). Halmoni could have mercy and come live with them!

I agree with you. I don't think the takeaway message from this show should be empowered women=henpecked husbands (like Bong Soon's parents).

I wish she were sweeter to him, too. :(

Fortunately, in my head I can rewrite the show. :)

I kinda hated the extended whole thing with the kids actually. I say more of why bellow (my comment got cut off and I went to sleep before noticing)
Firstly because I thought he wanted girls. Secondly I would've thought it would've been a nice touch to see MH actually being able to care for them? Like they calmed when dad was around so he could handle them? I thought that would've been really cute.
Instead what we got was just unnecessary.

I like my thrillers, that's probably why I liked the villain's scenes, even if they were choppy (but everything was choppy) and underdeveloped. So I was kinda craving a well written rom com thriller, but instead I got a juxtaposition of genres that bought each other down instead of complimenting each other.

I think I only stayed for Park Hyung Sik and the cute. Quite sad how they almost demoted Ji Soo because this show was nowhere near the emotions he brings out as a SL. He deserves a lot better. Why was Do Bong and her brother kidnapped as children? (Kept thinking that was going to come up somewhere)

Why was Do Bong's mom so abusive to her husband

WHY were we lead to believe the plot line of MH needing a bodygaurd because he was being threatened was a MAJOR plot line only for them to drop it so suddenly (like a HOT POTATO!) - just like him inheriting the company, the board netting etc etc

I was waiting to read your rants! I especially agree with 4, 6, 8. The crime fighting trio was really the best 15-odd minutes of the entire show, and it could have been that way for much longer... rather than... monks and poop alcohol and random high schoolers and hospital scenes. I think lots of people were pretty meh about GD at the start because he was all pushy and yelly, and I agree, I wish he had changed earlier, because I much prefer this quieter, contemplative version of GD. I still wouldn't have SLS, but I would have rooted for him a bit more. And ooo I am interested in seeing more of BK in other shows, he was so sweet (and handsome!!).

Indeed the show has only been carried through by its romance and the kidnapper plot... but eh, since I enjoyed it, I'll just close two eyes and allow the nicely wrapped up ending to satisfy me. It definitely won't win any awards for good writing, but at least the main couple made me happy every weekend!

That container chase seen was fantastic. My only quibble with it was that it kinda downgraded what had been an incredibly smart villain. But I was expecting that in order to catch him a little, because they didn't really set it up for any other way. Other wise, it was great.
I rarely have SLS anyway, so tbh, I probably wouldn't have either, but it would've made him much more compelling as a character as a whole anyway.
BK- Right? Very adorable. In fact, he could've been a very strong co-second lead if he had been given the screen time.

CONTINUED ... in character (I thought you wanted girls, MH), and left me feeling kind of unsatisfied, like they tried to tie everything up TOO much, which actually left you with more undeveloped potential storylines than you started with. In fact, we didn’t even need the children thing (although it was a given from episode 4 ish really), we could’ve ended with the engagement. Heck we could’ve ended with episode 15… that would’ve been nice.

Oh well, it’s ended. And I had fun. Picking it apart but also watching it haha.
I will just say though- props to the costume and wardronbe department, for everyone, but in particular for Park Hyunsik’s outfits. Especially that beige bomber jacket, tan suede boots, white tshirt, and ripped washed jeans… (but also all his hoodies, and leather jackets.)

I get what you mean. It would have been better to end with the wedding, then fast forward to a few years later where two little girls display their strength, and not through kicking their daddy's beautiful face black and blue, but through maybe kicking a ball across the yard and over the fence kind of thing...you know, where no hurt is involved. And I would have loved a scene where BS cuddles with MH and the girls. Not an ending where the wife snaps over the phone to poor MH...I want them to be lovey-dovey forever, don't show me a grumpy snappish BS please, don't let her turn into her mother.

Goodbye my adorable little weirdo's!!

Yea, again I feel like the last 2 episodes gave me what I REALLY wanted from this drama. Her fighting crime, and her two boys helping her out. I mean, we spent so much time with her obsessed to be in the Strategy Department, and then suddenly after she had kids she quits?? Where was that transition? She quits after her game is made, which just shows me that she never really cared about making games in the first place. I don't mind that, but a large part of the show was her obsessing about being put in the Strategy Department...

Completely agree that the Boss Tak storyline was completely unnecessary. Even Hee-ji and Bong-ki. And that crazy boss at Ainsoft. What did we gain from them being onscreen? Sorry to be harsh, but I skipped all of their scenes.

Also I was a bit uncomfortable to only find out NOW that Mom didn't hit Dad. Yay! But also this show really played us to believe she was a horrible person... I guess I'll rewatch only my two little peanuts when someone compiles a montage of them together... Other than them the gay jokes, gangsters, flamboyant dressing, and fake monks can be erased from my mind forever.

When the early teasers came out, SWDBS had a lot of hype and the expectations kept pilling up. It was marketed as co-habitation cute, bromance cute, sassy female lead cute. The show did its best to deliver its initial promises, but having too many elements in one show (you're truly ambitious, writer-nim) made it hard to follow through.

Nevertheless, despite your imperfection, I really enjoyed you show. You made me look forward to Fridays & Saturdays and other days paled in comparison.

I think it's safe to say that this show worked because of its actors' charms. If anyone did something right, it would be the casting director. Kudos to you!

Having Park Bo-young in a drama is already half the win, and she really does not disappoint. My favorite scene of hers: "strapped-to-a-time-bomb", episode 14. This was the only episode where our Bong-soon was physically weak, and I really was blown away by her performance. It's a cliche scene - we are all familiar with k-drama rules that she would somehow survive this tragedy, but her acting totally elevated this scene. She wailed and begged with such earnestness, it was impossible to hold my own tears.

Park Hyung-sik was a little more tricky and a wild card to most viewers. "Would he do well?" "Was he good enough for the goddess of acting, Park Bo-young?" "Ji-soo should have been the lead, not Hyung-sik". But boy, did he hit it out of the park, and put our worries to rest. He brought much life to the Min-hyuk we love today. He's the runaway star of SWDBS without a doubt. He's got the eye-acting down, expressive face of an actor, and the charisma of a bonafide star. The only way for him is up.

I'm going to miss this show a lot. Excuse me while I sniff away in the corner...

gotta give a shout out to jang mi kwan who plays the kidnapper, I think he did a really good job for his first role, what a crazy role it was especially in this episode where he was totally unhinged and reveling in what he did.I hope to see him again soon because I feel like he has a lot of potential. Also totally following him on insta lol.

Speaking of him, that interrogation scene, what he was saying was all about control and so was his breakdown in the cell. To bad they didn't give insight cause it had to his abusive mother. His not a psychopath but a sociopath.

Which kinda brings me to my next point in like that with other story element were the missed opportunities. The best thing about this was the otp but personally for me, there was an irrelevance on them coupled with filler scenes. I love romance but there needs to be a good balance or else the romance gets diluted and vanilla. Unfortunately I'm not too into sweet fluffy romance so that kinda effected how I watched the show towards the end.

It was a enjoyable past time with a "perfect end". But it suited the otp although I do feel it was weirdly rushed. However it was a fun ride.

Reading this I just had a vision of the actor supporting himself as a waiter while auditioning for his first big role. Imagine how he could turn on the creepy if a customer gives him a hard time :)

I feel like I'm impatiently waiting for him to comeback in another drama. It's interesting debuting with a villain role, but I like how he wants to challenge himself and was more worried in being able to fully embrace this character rather then playing a bad guy. I just am really wowed by a rookie actor, it doesn't always happen, he did do a excellent job and he will only get better in his acting if his already doing so well in his first role..

Haha seriously I knew they were gonna give them girls. And for that, they'd have to show the scene of BS and MH getting married and having kids. I just didn't know that they would be given TWO girls at the SAME time haha. I love how in the entire household, Minhyuk will be the weakest one, despite being the only guy.

This show has too much fillers for me. But even so, i enjoyed this show so much. Park Bo Young and Park Hyung Sik's portrayal of their characters were really fabulous. I really felt every single emotion that they were trying to portray. Every single gaze represented so much.

Acting aside, both characters were really well written. (And by that, i kinda mean that ONLY these two characters were well written. As much as i love this show, i need to admit this.) A lot of shows tried to create a story with a female character as the central heroine, only for the focus to drift towards the male lead as the story goes on. Very few shows were able to succeed in having the story centralised on our female lead. SWDBS is one of the very rare cases (WLKBJ is another winning example). I honestly felt that Bong Soon was never, for a second, relegated to a supporting role. If anything, Min hyuk felt like a supporting character to Bong Soon at times. It was genuinely a story about our heroine, Do Bong Soon. Plus, the romance was perfect. I was so upset when i thought the story was going to adopt the all-so-familiar noble idiocy arc. That was also why i was exceptionally glad that all those unnecessary and frustrating noble idiocy act was thrown off the window, with more sugar-sweet moments to take its place. I also love how both characters were equals in their relationship. They support each other and make the other whole.

It's gonna take some time for me to completely recover from the after effects of this drama. It wasn't so bad during the Goblin period, because that was when all the sweet dramas came out one after another. But for now, i'm kinda tired of the legal dramas. I just really want something lighthearted like SWDBS after a long day of work.

I wish you were all kinds of things, Show.
I wish you were about crime-fighting and side romance;
I wish Gok Doo was more utilised;
I wish you don't divert my attention from other details;
I wish there's no poop jokes;
I wish the story would really be about Bong Soon and her crime-solving sidekicks;
I wish there's resolution for Min Hyuk's parents;
I wish Bong Soon mom doesn't exist;
I wish there was no obvious nepotisim;
But most of all
I wish you didn't give me Ahn Min Hyuk,
So I won't love you a bit, and I won't love you at all.

Farewell Show, thank you for the hours.

Imagine ...

1. If GokDoo realised BongSoon was crushing on him earlier?

2. If we had an idea of the deeper motivations of the killer? Why did he hate women and want them skinny? Why did he emphatise with Bluebeard's Wife? Why did he want to marry BongSoon? He killed when he was younger, why wasn't he under psychiatric supervision?

3. What happened with the Anh family? I doubt that the dad would give up the most promising heir this easily.

... so much more.

First off, I'm glad the show actually gave Gook Doo a chance to confess properly. Now I understand why they never got past being just friends. Gook Doo liked Bong Soon but not enough to pursue her, to make her like him back. That's what made Min Hyuk the game changer. He went after the woman he loves.

What a wacky, but full of heart, show! Thank you for the fan service episode! I can say goodbye to Min Min and Bong Bong and their entire world with a happy heart. I thought I've already seen all of Min Hyuk's cuteness, but Daddy Min Hyuk is the cutest thing ever!

I like this! I wouldn't say that he didn't like her enough, but maybe that he just couldn't get the courage to do it. He let his fear of being hurt/spoiling the friendship get in the way of his feelings. Whereas MH knew that he had to try no matter what, because he liked BS so much that he was willing to risk a broken heart.

I, too, wish the villain was more fleshed out. I felt the ending for him was almost rushed to wrap it up the way people wanted but there was much more they could have done with him. But it also leaves room for a season 2! After all, every superhero needs that recurring villain who pushes them to the brink and back. But of course, the cast has to return. No one can replace the cuteness and awesomeness of Park Hyung Sik as AMH and Park Bo Young as DBS. Because who are we kidding, that's the only reason people kept watching. I will miss the sweet and funny. Now to find another crack worthy show.

While the show had lots of flaws like Bong-soon's mom, the way she treats her husband and daughter sometimes, the unnecessary gangsters, monk and even high schoolers, the underdeveloped characters (I mean what happend to Min-Hyuk's family?), the prejudices on gay people...etc... I will surely miss Bong-Bong and Min-Min and, and...snif...bye bye!

I waited until the last episode to voice my feelings on this show because I didn't want to jinx it and a lot of the times I comment and then quit the show later anyway. Strong Woman Do Bong Soon was a show that basically was my spirit animal and matched me heart and soul. The main reason for enthusiasm is different than many other people's reason for loving this show though and I wanted to share why. I was born with a brittle bone disease so Bong Soon represented who I wish to embody if I could have a super power. It's completely opposite of how I am. But also, I know what I lack in physical strength, I am mentally strong and this perseverance matches Bong Soon as well. This is why I loved this show so so much. If only I were lucky enough to find a Minhyuk of my own I would be so lucky. He was amazing and everything I want in my dream guy: protective and respectful.

This show has helped me understand how heated debates can occur on forums. I have watched many shows and would consider myself pretty picky these days about watching a show all the way through so I've had gripes and unfavorable opinions about shows. I also have quit shows after reading negative comments that brought to light a flaw I may have not noticed or I just stopped enjoying it cause of the bad news. I still believe everyone has the right to their opinion and you like whatever you want to like but I also found myself here wanting to defend the show at every negative thing because I was so passionate about it. I understand now why my friend doesn't read recaps for shows she's currently watching. Although fun to discuss with other beanies, it also can make one sad when reading an opposite opinion. It's like I needed a Minhyuk to protect and call to remove all the bad comments for me. Either way I refrained from commenting anyway choosing to just enjoy the show for me. So thank you Strong Woman Do Bong Soon for being who you were for me, I hold you on my heart forever.

Awww.. I am glad the show made you happy <3

Forums are always a place to have wide range of opinions and everyone does not see it in the way we do. Sometimes I do tend to feel the discussions are way too much for such a fluffy show, not because I feel the discussions are not great but that the writer does not even care or think about the point we are passionately debating about. This has been that kind of show for me. Never let bad reviews or comments dampen your enthusiasm about anything you love. We love what we love <3
And if it makes us happy, we should never think twice!

Thanks CandidClown, your recap got me smiling all over again.

This was one heck of a complete wrap up of all characters we care about and even of those we don't really care about at all! ?

The one thing I was surprised that the show did not include at all in the end, was Min Hyuk's family. They were only there for the stalker part of the story and totally disappeared, not even making a cameo at the wedding!!! ? I would have liked that Min Hyuk could still have been buddies with one of his brothers and that his father could have still been approving and amused by Bong Soon. ?

And yes, I agree with all the other commenters on the baby sitters... why employ the thugs, when there are family and girl friends? ? Perhaps they were supposed to be better at handling the violence? LOL. ?

Anyway it was a sweet show and worth re-watching just for the Bong-Min scenes. ? ? ? ❤ ? ? ?

Chiming in to chorus that I loved the OTP to bits, which makes this one kdrama I'll rewatch again and again (alongside others like Reply 1997 and WLFKBJ) despite the weird plot points and gaping plot holes.

I loved the portrayal of the leads, kudos to PBY & PHS for making these characters so fantastic that I squee along with the OTP regardless. The characterisation wasn't that great, frankly, because halfway through suddenly Min Hyuk didn't have hangups about his family anymore and Bong Soon managed to achieve her dream of making a game without, you know, actually holding a proper job and earning her stripes.

I’m going to miss seeing Min Min and Bong Bong every week, but this final episode was great at giving closure. I was surprised at how heartfelt Bongsoon & Gookdu’s conversation was and appreciated the way they each reflected on what was said afterwards. I wish the show spent less time on the side plots (gangsters, kidnapping) and more time fleshing out the other relationships - Gook Du & Bong Ki/Bong Soon & Bong Ki/Bong Soon & grandma… I mean, Gook Doo’s mom was never even shown being with him in any scenes! Anyway, Park Hyungsik and Park Boyoung really embodied their characters and their relationship will be one of the most memorable ones I've watched!

Although I would've been a little happier to see Bong Soon also by Min-Hyuk's side with their babies at the end. Also happy to see that scene with Gook Doo and Bong Soon and her brother. I was wondering the same thing about Kim Jang-hyun, and turns out he did have a back story which the actor explained in his interview (Soompi subbed it here https://www.soompi.com/2017/04/12/get-know-actor-behind-masked-villain-strong-woman-bong-soon/). He was physically abused by his mother, and he further developed a trauma/ desire to get back at women because he was rejected by a woman he confessed to. It doesn't make his twisted actions right, but it would have helped us empathise with him more. I guess the production team forgot to include the relevant cuts, just like how we never got to see what became of Min-hyuk's inheritance issues.

Thanks for recapping the series, CandidClown and murasakimi! Even though I don't quite share your love for the lead couple, I enjoyed reading your thoughts about the drama (:

Why is his back story in the form of an interview, not in the show? It is so weird of the writer to expect us to glean his back story from the interview instead of the show. It just goes to show her lack as a writer. She is unable to incorporate a simple back story into the show.

I'm going to miss this drama and all the cuteness and crazies it offers. Definitely not a flawless drama but it does give me a satisfying ending and for that I am happy!
I think Park Hyung Shik shines bright in his role as Ahn Min Hyuk. His extras and bold confidence are scene stealer for me. I hope his future works will be great as well.
Park Bo Young is as always such a girl crush. It's hard not to fall in love with all her cuteness and all things Park Bo Young-y.
And I hope Ji-Soo will get a memorable role soon. He was so good in Page Turner that it's quite difficult for me to see him as Gook Doo in this drama. Somehow his character feels flat. But I'll be on the lookout for his future projects in hope that his future roles will be so much better!
Cheers~

Thanks for the recaps-all 16 of 'em. The show has its flaws but our OTP's sizzling chemistry made the show interesting for me. If there's one thing I really wish to change, it would be wrapping up the gangster & highschool kid's storyline so we could have more time developing BS journey as a superhero.
The romance more than delivered. I loved that it didn't focus on the love triangle and I also love how BS transitioned from GD to MH. That she mourned losing her first love but when she decided to love MH she went all in. I mean she's the one suggesting she stay overnight giving our hero blue balls. Then there's MH. I didn't like Hyunsik's character in Hwarang but I still liked him as an actor but after this show I'm a fan. I couldn't imagine another actor squeeing like a teenage girl and still look hot. And those eyes- how can they be so expressive.
I think I'm one of the few who liked mom and I'm glad that her character grew. I also like Dong pyung. Some might say that he is portraying the stereotype but I'm friends to a lot of gay men who are exactly like him so I didn't mind that part. I liked that they showed how someone who is obviously gay can rise to the top and be respected in a society which is less accepting of homosexuality.

My favourite part for the finale got to be the cherry blossom proposal scene, it was so beautifully shot! I also liked that Min-hyuk didn't do the usual get down on the knees proposal, but instead let the moment leading to the proposal come naturally. Cried happy tears when Minhyuk finally slipped the ring onto Bong-soon's finger :')

And Gook-du! OMG, I'm with Bong-ki on this, you really didn't know Bong-soon had a crush on you?! I really appreciated his heart-to-heart talk with Bong-soon though, it was probably my favourite Ji-soo scene in this whole drama. Ji-soo, I really hoped to get the girl in your next drama, HAHA.

Overall, I've really enjoyed this drama, which kept me looking forward to each new episode. I could look over the drama's lack of substantial plot, because BONG-BONG & MIN-MIN ARE JUST OH-SO-CUTE!!! They're easily one of my favourite kdrama-land couple, and I'm glad the finale gave us lots and lots of bong-min cuteness. Park Bo-young and Park Hyung-sik saved this drama, and I wished them all the best in their next projects!

AHH, I will miss our Bong-bong and Min-min... ;_;

You summed up the episode really well CandidClown! This show rested on its leads a little too much. Thank goodness Park Hyung Sik and Park Bo Young are such charming actors. Otherwise, the show would have collapsed under the weight of its own issues.

To be honest, I liked the episode well enough. But by the time the end rolled around, I was more than ready for it to be over. I really enjoyed the show when it began but its many issues overshadowed my enjoyment of it.

And yes, the finale left me with more questions than answers! Good thing BongBong and MinMin made up for it by being ridiculously cute.

I kind of felt sad that Bong Soon lost her job at the Strategy Department. Of course, it makes sense to not have her anymore if she has too many absences. Still, it was what she had been aiming for from the start.

One thing I loved about Mr. OH was that though he's cuckoo crazy, he seems to be good at his job and is not above recognizing good work! It definitely humanized his character a little more for me. And how cute are he and Secretary Gong? I think Secretary Gong doth protest a little too much about his sexuality! ;)

I wish we had seen a little more of the Kyung-shim/Bong Soon friendship as well. The actress who played Kyung-shim did a good job as well, considered that her role was basically supportive best friend who also gives the heroine a reason to fight.

I found it hilarious that Bong Soon and Min Hyuk ended up having twin daughters. Take that Bong Soon's mother! And so cool to see Min Hyuk being a stay at home dad, though poor guy, it's definitely taking a toll on him. Still, his wife has to save the day, so I'm sure he will find a way to deal!

Last but not the least, I sincerely hope Jang Mi-Kwan goes on to have a successful career. He took a really flat and underdeveloped stock villain role and really made it his own. I'm even more impressed knowing that it was his first drama! I hope we see those killer cheekbones again (and in a better light!)

My concern is that dramaland learns the wrong lessons from the ratings success of this drama.

The contrast I'd make is to "Coffee Prince". In CP, we had a beautifully layered story with cohesive subplots and a wonderful ensemble cast. It was a drama with no wasted moments, every episode and scene flowed naturally with no fast forwarding necessary. The characters in CP were relatable, modern, mature and the female characters, in particular, were all given agency. The dramatic conflicts were natural and unforced, no need for a bright neon arrow pointing to "ultimate bad person". This takes smart, painstaking writing.

In contrast SWDBS had, to be as mild as possible, atrocious writing and story telling. There were more plot holes than coherent plot connections. For example a kidnapper with literally bags of cash, living out of a container but with the resources to build an underground (!) prison and also with surveillance, hacking, bomb making and marksmanship skills not to mention remarkable healing abilities.

There was little nuance in the characters, and one could almost imagine little labels being placed on them ("comedic relief", "allows DBS to show of super strength", "cute, angsty second lead").

(Gonna stop here, this could go on a bit.... ha ha)

The sense that I get from the last few years is one where the writing seems to have become much more formulaic. (and the many beanies who are reporting drama slump may be a clear symptom)

Gender stereotypes feel so baked in to recent dramas (male - rich, smart, decisive, spoilt, arrogant; female - sassy, cute, somewhat stupid, humble, good hearted..etc etc) Sad to say, many dramas appear to be written by committee and a checklist with truly creative content taking a back seat.

You are right, and some of the blame lies in the ratings. Certain storylines bring in the ratings, so they adhere to them without thinking out of the box. I have been experiencing drama fatigue too. Have been once in the past because of the number of makjang dramas they were churning out at one time, but that has reduced, which brought me back to k-dramaland once again. But the basic tropes still remain.

I am so sad to see this drama end. I have been procrastinating in watching this final episode. But we need to what we need to do.
This has been a great final episode for our beloved couple. Everything has been wrapped up for them. I am just sad not to see Min Hyuk's family at the wedding. Even his father should've bothered to show up. But I realize its all good, since it only emphasizec that he has found a better family of his own with the Dos. The Dos have completely accepted him and found a mother, father and even brother that cherishes him.
I could've also been okay with someone telling Bong Soon to treat Min Hyuk right. Everyone has been talking to Min Hyuk to treat Bong soon well but to make it balanced someone shouldve done the same for our CEO. In all aspects, Min Hyuk had it worse off with a family like his. A little scene with Don Pyung or Secretary Gong telling her to treat him well wouldve completed it for me.
Also, Min Hyuk has said that he wanted a daughter right. Just that, he shouldve been more careful what he wish for. Hahahaha that last scene with the hapless Min hyuk was just an icing in the cake. I know he will be happy and will handle his daughters well as they grow up. In his hands, i know they will be more adjusted individuals compared to how Bong Soon was. The show has shown as that Min hyuk is a better fit for Bong Soon and will be same with their children.
I am happy with this episode since it shows us that they will be happily living their life together. I am still sad to see this episode end. But this episode is enough closure for me. I just want Bong bong and Min min be happy for the rest of their lives.

it's done. Strong Woman Do Bong-soon is over and... I am unhappy at how much potential was wasted !
Like everyone who's loved the show, I'll reiterate that the Main Couple was KEY to this show. they MADE this show. The casting for Min-hyuk and Bong-soon was perfect and I couldn't have asked for better actors. I must confess that at times, MH's over-excitement with BS made me cringe, but overall, he was the dream boyfriend and she was the perfect peanut-sized Hulk girlfriend.

but the writing... the pacing... the plot and sub-plots... Episode 15 and 16 were a summary of what the writers could have done with the last 8 episodes, mainly:
(1) Our fav bickering neighbourhood crime-fighting trio
(2) MH and BS dealing with the day-to-day of their relationship at work and at home in light of her crime-fighting days.

No, in as much as I loved the OTP, I can't honestly recommend this show to anyone. I spent waaaay too much time fast-forwarding (on the 1st watch!) on the last half of the show; it was ridiculous.

I’m both sad to say goodbye to BongSoon and MinMin. It wasn’t a perfect show, but it was still pretty dang good in the right ways. BongSoon was my favorite character. I liked how the show made it clear that she was the hero in this story. Was it the feminist drama I thought it’d be? No. But it hit on some things that I really liked.

The romance was swoon-worthy and most of you will agree it was a huge part what made the show so watchable. (Also because BongSoon and Minhyuk just make the show.) Minhyuk’s acceptance of BongSoon and his love and support for her was adorable. My heart!

I wish they had done more with some of the characters like Ji Soo (who I normally love but didn’t particularly care about his character here) and her bro instead of all those random scenes with the gangster or whatever. I seriously end up looking at my Instagram feed to pass the time whenever they come on. Also, some of the storylines like their breakup or losing her powers were so contrived or forced, I had to just roll my eyes and say, “well it’s a drama” and pretend that it makes sense (it doesn’t).

Even so, I’ll miss our couple and I look forward to these actors next projects!

I would have preferred None of the gangsters to have been invited to the wedding, have them send their picture on a wreath of flowers instead. What happened to grandma, couldn't she make it? And since our couple is so family oriented, at least a voice over of, a reconciliation of Min-Min with his family and have them happily join the wedding. Then there's the last 5 min - The scene with the gangster-nannies - I didn't get it. It wasn't funny and didn't add to the loving family relationships they worked hard to protect. While I appreciate that Min-Min is trying to be supportive & respect Bong Soon's need to work, he could use real help until the girls are a bit older, Mom and/or dad would have loved to help take care of the babies.

Love the final episode, every moment of it. Min Min and Bong Bong totally killed it. I get mushy inside everytime they appears on screen. Gosh..
Although like some of you said here, some things are left out.
MH's family for one thing. It's saddened me that MH is not reconciling with his dad on his happiest day. Compare to Nizzamudin (?), I feel this one takes more precedence.
For another, I'm happy that the writer went as far as giving babies to MinBong couple, but instead of closing the drama with cherry on top, it makes me think so much, like 'poor MH, he won't be able to take care of the babies without hurting himself during the time BS went out saving the world', or 'what happen if the babies grow up, being sisters, and go through the teenage phases of rivalry, jealousy, and all that teenage dramas', MinBong couple certainly get some challenges ahead'. Oh well... if they give us season 2 or special eps to continue the stories, all will be well.

I watched ep 1, and I finished it, and I realized I miss MH even more.

One thing I found out recently really surprised me. Up in the recap look at the picture of Park Hyun-Sik standing next to the police chief, then look at the picture next to Ji-Soo, and also keep in mind that Secretary Gong was taller than him (even seated beside him he lookes 3" taller). Now brace.

Park Hyun-Sik is 6'1" tall. They CRAMMED this show with extra-tall actors and it made him look average height.

Another rando thing: Loved that they let him belt a few words. Good gravy his voice is lovely.

YES. I was wondering why in the world was everyone so TALL. I mean, not that I'm complaining because I'm a giant myself, but it made PHS look short!

I love his voice so much, and have his Hwarang OST in my playlist at all time so I'm so glad he did the DO INTERNNNN and also that he got to sing an OST. Another song to add to my playlist!

him already being the tallest in his group made me doubt that they'd lie about his height lol..at least not extremely, probably just 1-2 cm. i think everyone else was just taller lol..jisoo is like 185cm? compared side by side that would make PHS around 182-3 which is about right.. i think siwan is around 170cm but has such a small frame that he looks tiny.

besides, i find that guys tend to look shorter than they really are, must be the broad shoulders. put siwan next to a woman and he would probably still be taller

HATED the ending ... Shouldn't Do Bong be there with her babies since she is the only one who can handle them?? Is Min - Hyuk now going to live a life of abuse just like his father in law (" I told you not to call me when I'm working!") - it did not leave me with any warm fuzzies. It looked very bad for the "compatible, soulmates"!

I felt a bit uncomfortable with that as well, but I explained it as her only "flying around saving people" so to speak, when there is an emergency. It didn't look Loki MH and BS had a standby nanny, which tells me that she rarely leaves the babies.

I didn't take MH getting punched by the baby's fist seriously, because I thought it was in keeping with the show's wacky spirit.

I think it's not that they didn't have a standby nanny, but that any nannies they had quit one after the other (Min-hyuk said in the phone call "the babysitters quit again").

What I meant by standby nanny, is that Bong Soon's parents (who would be the logical choice to be the nannies for the babies) were not in the picture. If Bong Soon was away from her babies all the time, then there would have to be a plan b already in place with Bong Soon's parents taking turns caring for the twins (since both have experience raising a special child). However that wasn't the case here. So again that tells me that Bong Soon usually stays with her babies, otherwise they would've already had a plan b in place.

Min-hyuk's call indicates they run into this situation (babysitters quitting) quite often, which tells me she is familiar with babysitters handling and then quitting on her kids. This means not only do they not have a Plan B if a babysitter quits, they don't have a proper plan at all on how to care for the kids if one parent is out working, especially knowing that the kids also have super strength and "normal" babysitters wouldn't have been able to handle them.

Also, if Bong-soon was with her babies more often, why could she not have coached Min-hyuk how to handle them over the phone? Instead, she was pretty snippy with him when all he was doing was trying to not get beat up again. The least she could have done was not to sound like he was in the wrong for seeking help from his wife.

LOL Junny, I'm trying to find excuses for Bong Soon, I do not want to believe that she is a negligent mother, but ugh I guess you are right. Anyways I will just pretend that the last 4 minutes of this drama don't exist. They got married, and that was the end of it.

@sweetsour,
LOL, I think trying to inject logic into this drama is near mission impossible. You're right, let's just ignore the last few minutes of the drama. I'm sure our sanity will thank us for it!

@ junny, agreed!

Yes! Exactly. Enjoyed the warm and fuzzies until the last scene.

I wrote this in my own posting but i didn't have a problem with her leaving her babies with someone else because mommies are humans too and need to get away sometimes but I hated the way she spoke to him.

Yes, especially when she vowed to protect him as well. I suppose one can't have everything. As long as we get to see them married and having babies, we should be happy.
