We have lots of beaches here and the tourists usually wear that printed+loose shirt. They should've given him the flowery or cargo shorts to match!

There is a special feel 2 this poster. It is a bit sad yet romantic.
Only Chung is looking at Jun Jae. it seems like Jun Jae has a yearning and broody stare.. like he is missing her love.. ❤❤❤
Another thing is that the poster beautifully shows how our mermaid and Jun Jae world is different!!
PS I LoOoVee our herooOo standing up there looking at the sea.. SoOo classic and chic!! ????

The posters are beautiful! Brings back the sad, romantic & melancholic atmosphere from the teaser. I really really like it! Hope tomorrow we will get some more pics of JJH- I want to properly see how she looks as a mermaid!- & the rest of the cast too! Up until now, we have only see them in fan pics.
On the other hand, some people have zero fashion sense if they are telling Lee Min Hoś shirt is ugly or makes him look like an "ajhussi". Why, every time LMH appears, there is such a ruckus about his costume? Seriously, dear haters, you all need to stop being so obvious. His clothes are fine & he looks gorgeous. Deal with it in a civilzed manner, please.
Im so glad we are getting new material every day! Already excited, wondering what will it be tomorrow!

*but feeding can be so fun* ?

LOL You're seriously in the wrong place if you believe that calling someone a hater will make them silence their opinions.

They didn't say he was ugly. They said the shirt he's dressed in is ugly. Which it is.

Now don't get your knickers in a twist about that. Remember that these aren't his personal clothes. They're what the drama dresses him in. And maybe if people complain about it they'll dress him in something less ajumma-ish. Then we all can enjoy ogling him even more. And I'm sure he'd appreciate not having to wear a shirt that looks like it was made from some granny's old nightie. So, it's win-win.

Obviously not every person who dislikes his clothes is a hater & the ouftis of his character are not even LMH personal choice, since the costume designer is the one who decides what he should wear. Fashion is a relative criteria and I wish everything could be so simple, but no. The hate for his wardrobe is just an excuse to attack him. They DID say the shirt is ugly & made fun of him because of that- please, take a look at the comments, not only on this post, but also in previous ones- Before the shirt appeared, some people signed in, not to talk about the teaser or the trailer, but to recreate the fashion debate of a drama that aired 3 years ago.
I really wish fashion sense could be less "standarized"; his shirt is not "ajumm-ish". Just because it has flowers & a soft fabric it has to be categorized as femenine? Are we Homer Simpson, to think that there are only two kind of people authorized to wear flowerish shirts?-that was a joke, dont get offended- In any case, that is what personal opinion stands for; we all have our own & we are free to express it any time. Fine with me with that. Other thing is when I see people already dismissing the quality of the drama because of that. Take a look at what happened with The Heirs. Many people have not even watch it, but they all know Kim Tan is "the heir of ugly sweaters". In a show where his character wears at least 30 different outfits- out of which, only 6 could be really labbeled as unfortunate- that is the one thing that stands out.
Right now, its already happening again, starting with just one shirt. Thatś why Im upset; not because people are expressing their opinion, but because for some of them are just starting the flamming.

Lots of visitors to DB are from or in western countries. They tend to be outspoken and sure of themselves, their tastes, their English and their values.
There are a few names that often receive more negative comments than others. Suzy is one, LMH is another.
If something negative gets mentioned in the posts, it has a high propensity of being picked up in the comments. That's just the way this cookie crumbles.

Required fields are marked *

People said LMH is cursed by his stylist, lol. But i think he be able to rocked anything others put on him, fur coat in BOF, feminine suits in PT, deep cut t-shirts with wrinkled jackets in CH, warrior armour in F, ugly sweaters in TH, beggars rags in GB, and now flower shirts in LOTBS. He still looks gorgeous. He can also handle any hair styles too and these hair styles together with those outfits made all of his characters very special, distinguished and memorable.

I feel weird now, am I the only one who likes him in his flower shirt? Hahah I find a guy who can pull off a flower shirt very fashion forward and has nice tastes.

But in all honesty tho I think it's probably more to do with his characters life style, being all loose etc on the outwards but a big thief on the inside maybe? Plus it all goes well with the breezy theme, and the loose free feeling the poster and teasers are evoking for me so far.

Of course you are not the only one who thinks that way. The people complaining are probably haters. Since they cant criticize his looks, they resort to fashion that is always a very relative matter. Maybe some of them truly find it horrible, but that its what personal taste stands for. After all, thats why many people wear the same style everywhere, as some sort of uniform. I suppose that makes them feel safe.

I don't think you need to be a hater to dislike the clothes that K-entertainers are made to wear. I love SHINee to death, but every time there is a new video out, I have to look through my fingers at a lot of their outfits. (Exhibit A: http://orig13.deviantart.net/22d7/f/2015/213/d/2/shinee_married_to_the_music_render_by_radientglow-d93pggs.png )

It is probably a cultural thing. K-entertainment seems to like flashy clothes, the louder the better; where I live, TV is a little more conservative fashion-wise. In any case, true love is about seeing both the good and bad, and loving anyway :-p . Not every negative comment reflects on the actor personally.

Exactly :) . Let's look on the bright side; an ahjumma print shirt is the very least that can happen. It could be much, much worse. Even on the topic of flower prints, exhibit B:

http://twitpic.com/show/large/c99y8a

I think that Korean fashion is a lot less worried about what counts as "masculine". And I think I am warming up to it; at least I guess that pushing the envelope is more interesting than playing it safe.

In fairness to the guys, this is how they look when they are playing it safe:

http://1.soompi.io/wp-content/uploads/2015/02/shinee-your-number-022015.jpg

Ok, I'll stop now :op My point is that LMH's fashion is not so bad, seen in a wider context... :-)

0

Why does criticizing someones outfit = hate? By that same regard loving the outfit must mean those people love him.
It's simply an opinion about an outfit and has nothing to do about LMH as a person.

Dramabeans is full of salty people. They hate every actor for no reason unless it is Lee jun ki.
Believe it or not,Lee min ho is the most handsome Korean actor and he has a definite charisma that is absent in some other actor.

Haters can hate all they want.I don't care.

1. Since when does not liking a shirt mean hating the person? They're just having a good laugh on expensive of a piece of fabric. It's a SHIRT that a STYLIST picked out for a drama CHARACTER. It's not about LMH.

2. Well that's not true. Beanie robots are all programmed to love PBG too.

3. So you think all beanies think alike and that's wrong, yet think we should all think alike when it comes to LMH? I'll just let that stand alone for you to mull over.

4. Whether LMH is handsome or charismatic is completely subjective.

5. Please refrain from calling people haters just because they have a different opinion from you. Even if they had commented negatively on your "ultimate bias" or whatever you want to call it, does not mean that they hate him or that they're not entitled to their opinion. It's only hate if it's personal/degrading/discriminating/etc (ie "he's the ugliest guy I've ever seen", NOT "the shirt they put him in is like that of an ajumma") and/or has no basis in the real world or the conversation.

DB is a site where people go to discuss. A discussion can only exist if differing opinions exist.

(And no, I'm not an LMH fan. And yes, I think the outfit is more fit for a 70s pimp. But no, that does not make me a hater. (For instance, even though I really like YSH I still laugh my butt off every time I see what the Shopping King Louie stylist made him wear this week.))

6. I'm sure lot of us visit Open Thread with the intention to read and expressly to comment, so I think we should also keep in mind that not every comment needs to be (over-)read, or over-reacted to...

As readers, it would help if we weren't as sensitive/defensive, cos often we're SKIMMING other people's comments quickly (rather than reading them in depth), no? I often see others reacting to the slightest criticism, as if they were really suffering from the most severe, blood-inducing whiplash, ever. So, not only are we drama viewers, but many of us can also become drama queens--especially when our particular loves are "under attack."

However, "under attack" often includes minor, not-meant-to-be-harmful comments, too.

A comment on someone's (subjective) liking or disliking something may merely have been generated from the desire to add another voice to the chorus, WITHOUT any intention to be malicious or hateful or scathing or derogatory or racist or rude... or whatever. It can totally just come from an enthusiastic, I-wanna-have-a-say-too sort of place. Like, let me raise my hand, too.

And lots of people just comment quickly, without much thought given to word-choice, spelling, logic, etc. So...in those cases, why read so much into other people's "rough drafts"?

At least, I speak for myself.

I really wished it was another heroine though. Somehow these actors made it seem like they only appear in similar typed dramas like ..for JCW it's the K2 after healer...for JJH..it's LOBS after MLFAS..It kind of brings little less variation in their acting trajectory ..if we consider the latest productions that is. I miss that time when LMH was not a larger than life kind of an actor and would do dramas not caring about stardom and all that related extravaganza..for example 'personal taste' or 'faith'. Now they just return to make a blockbuster movie or drama..there's no chance for down to earth roles anymore ..they are only left for tvn shows may be? Lol. Anyway I have been thinking about this for a while...but what I've been trying to say is that we don't get to see jdramas like 'all about my siblings' or even a 'signal' from these superstars...I mean the chances are quite slim of that happening.

Its hard i guess.. Harder if you are famous or got past work being famous and recognize already.. Of course, im not saying it applies to every star.. Some star do behave differently..

But generally the feel i get is those more "popular" & "famed" actor/actress, especially not the newbie anymore.. They probably wont dare to venture into total different roles at that stage.. (They prefer to play safe?) Many eyes are just watching if u can make the cut just as good as before or even achieve higher breakthrough.. U do the same, ppl say u never improve.. U do well, ppl also got things to say.. Dont do well, ppl also got things to say.. This makes them more wary and choosy over scripts, so naturally the roles they play tend to be the same or going for the same type of drama over and over again..

Which is why i find that when u are newbie, thats the only time u get to really experience and test the wide spectrum of roles and drama.. since failing at that time wouldnt hurt that much.. but sadly nowadays even those newbie actors also acting that way, like nam joo hyuk (not that i dont like, but i find that he's always just playing pretty boy, flower boy, swimmer >.<) Im saying it because i want him to be better.. Not only sticking in his greenhouse.. Once u are older, u are just ending up limiting yourself even more..

Its stressful.. Especially those with high rating drama.. Now im curious what next drama would song joong ki take.. i guess he wont take any for time to come, and probably the next drama would be park bo gum and him together (as he wished for and it seems safe to me too..)

0
6
reply

Required fields are marked *

But of course, it could also be that u are famous and start taking lead roles, u cant possibly go back and take a minor supporting role or even smaller roles to "practice/expose"..

But just giving you the lead role for sth u totally never try before might be a huge risk.. True u might be experienced with high rated drama under your resume.. But for eg, shows with a totally different nature like saeguk.. with no experience, it might be pretty hard (not saying impossible) to do well especially the tone, speech and actions..

Everybody start off small.. Though some start off big.. But expectations tend to be huge when u are famous, ppl are just scrutinizing u under a magnifying glass..

You're right. But at the same time LMH is a really good actor, which showed in faith. It's sad that he can't show his acting repertoires and would only get projects related to commercially viable materials. But there are still people like di caprios who goes beyond their stardom and then try to act in projects that makes sense.

Yupp those actors are good.. They are at least constantly challenging themselves and not afraid of their failures..

But then to each of its own, im nt saying those who always play same role are bad, i cant foresee things nor saying doing that guarantee 100% positive outcomes (i got no qualms over them acting the same type of role or drama for their entire life, maybe its just my own mindset or desire that i want to see them in different roles and i find it more fulfilling personally..), but there's no really recommended path to choose from or model answers, sometime its really luck & timing too..

Required fields are marked *

Have you ever heard of Gangnam Blues? He did a pretty good job in that, and it was not a pretty role. He did took a risk, with a character who is nothing like he has ever played, and in a noir movie, with a limited audience. It was a success, but everybody tends to ignore that this film ever existed, even though it was just a year ago.

Required fields are marked *

But LMH does diversify in his movie projects... I don't know if Leo does tv dramas so it's a bit unfair to compare them.

Besides a huge percentage of kdramas are just recycled tropes delivered in different ways. It's extra difficult to get a huge array of roles in dramaland (not impossible, mind, just difficult). More so if you're a leading man. Cable is fixing that a little bit, but also take note this could be his last project before army duty, he needs to be highly visible to keep his advantage.

Maybe LMH will get the chance to take more challenging kdrama roles after army duty, or in 10 years or so, when his Hallyu fame has dimmed a bit and he can take much more controversial roles (like psychopaths, corrupt prosecutor, etc)

0
reply

Required fields are marked *

Yeah...Dramas like "Signal" and many others, which don't recycle all the usual tropes, probably also don't attract the sort of funding to enable the hiring of superstar A-grade actors/actresses. Hence, they feature less famous actors, and often give those a much-needed break.

I would love to JJH in something different, but her mastery is clearly in the comedic field, and so...a huge part of me is excited to see her (yet again) in a rom-com. Where I know she'll be good/great.

@Sky--So, unlike you, I wish it could've been another hero... and yet, LMH does look good in these promos! Before a show, I'm never 100% happy with the casting. But after it's over, I often found I was wrong. So, as far as my own fallibility in predicting the outcome, it all works out!

It's interesting that some topics/actors/shows seem to pick up more flamebaiting. I was reading the DB commenting policy ... this part caught my eye:

"No flaming, flamebaiting, trolling. We love and encourage healthy debate, but we understand strong opinions sometimes lead to strong emotions. That’s fine, until it crosses the line into flaming, which is when attacks are made on other commenters. Flamebaiting and trolling are when a commenter provokes others with offensive statements, attacks, or purposely inflammatory language. If you’re trolling for the lulz, this is not the site for you."

I feel there's borderline flamebaiting here and it's a pity.

All you judgers wait till the drama airs for you to know if they are playing the same roles,if the drama is over hyped/overrated,and if lmh will be wearing horrible shirts it's just one picture.
I noticed that some celebrities get unnecessary bashing on here hence why their fans are protective and sometimes the bashers hide under 'it's just my opinion' comment or "not everyone must like your bias'i don't think the fans are forcing you to like an actor or write nice things about him/her they are just defending their bias based on past experiences don't get worked up if their fans come for you for comments they don't like either we understand things differently and besides if you are not a hater why get annoyed when people call out the haters.

I'm not fan of all actors either and LMH isn't really my cup of tea, but some comments on DB really are a bit.. hmm. And only certain actors and actresses get those types of comments, yall know exactly what types.
Imo, both sides are at fault, both the criticizer and the avid defender, they're both messy when it comes to either criticizing or defending certain actors/actresses. I guess people shouldn't take too seriously the comment sections and get too worked up, and just enjoy

I agree with Miriam well said indeed.

There is always things we don't like in life and let me give you an example I didn't like Moon lovers? What did I do? I never commented on it or even clicked on a post or a forum where Moon Lovers viewers hang out?

I didn't want to gate-crash them or party-crash because it would be unnecessary to do so and unjust act and tbh not so noble either.

So because avoid with good graciousness the thing we don't like. But I see difference treatment for some actors where antis are insecure about them hence they have to gate-crash them.

Actors are not fictional characters or fictional beings they are common people and demand common respect. So please show some respect on the comment in the future and limit your trolling and if you don't like it please search for other things you like no reason in writing eassys here. Its just no morally right. And if you see youself having malicious intentions on people you don't know it's best you step away.

Be light heart and at the end of the day this drama is light hearted as well. Lets command peace and understanding

And I disagree with the "over promotion" comment, Goblin comes out later and they started promos sooner than this drama, if anything SBS was taking too long, but anyways, any drama involving these two as leads is going to get tons of promo, just enjoy it :)

I like LMH, and honestly have no objection to the outfit (I'm assuming this is the wardrobe mistress's choice). But is it just me, or does he look confused? Sexy confused, of course, but still bewildered. Is he seeing sexy mermaid JJH and his sudden and undeniable emotions are making him all befuddled? ;)

Although I'm liking the melodramatic feel of the whole thing, I do hope that this show has some sort of light-heartedness or some form of comedy. Also, even if it IS all drama and yearning and all that, I hope it is well-written and directed. I don't want it to end up being like a certain other drama that I know of... (*ahem*Uncontrollably*cough*Fond)

Saw the preview after Jealousy Incarnate, and am getting major Splash vibes from this. Therefore, I'm already bias against the drama since it feels like another remake, and I feel nothing about the leads. This usually means it's not worth putting my hopes up, even though the aesthetics look cute and refreshing. Sometimes being that shallow saved me many hours of disappointment, but sometimes I'm proven wrong. I much prefer being proven wrong since it's always a pleasant surprise. So there, a silly premonition from a long-time kdrama watcher.
