Oh Hae-young Again: Episode 8

Love, guilt, confusion, abandonment, all topped of with a huge helping of possibly supernatural visions — it’s enough to drive anyone over the edge. Do-kyung seems to be in imminent danger of losing his mind with everything he’s having to deal with. In fact, I’m starting to become concerned for the mental well-being of more than one of our main players, and it’s may keep getting worse before it gets better.

EPISODE 8: “I’m not crying because of him, but because of you”

Do-kyung and the other Hae-young talk about how they left things, and Do-kyung explains that when he said he pitied her it didn’t mean he didn’t love her. He pities everyone he loves, even his brother and sister. But Hae-young wants to be loved without being pitied.

As it turns out, Hae-young isn’t here to try and rekindle their relationship. She just doesn’t want them to remember each other with anger and bitterness anymore, so she suggests they change their last impressions of each other before they go their separate ways. Her idea is for them to play ping-pong ten times — by the last time they won’t feel badly towards each other anymore, and can move on.

Do-kyung is hesitant, but Hae-young swears she’s not doing this to get him back — in fact, she’s ready to try dating again. She just wants to resolve her feelings towards him first.

In flashback we see that they have a history with ping-pong, that they used to play all the time. Hae-young had been pretty much unbeatable, and Do-kyung had had to take lessons just to be able to beat her once. When he finally did, as his prize, he’d asked her to marry him.

We don’t see whether Do-kyung agrees to the ten games, but on his way home, Jin-sang calls to tell him that Tae-jin has been let out of jail. Of course Do-kyung already knows, since our Hae-young told him in a vision that she saw Tae-jin. He has another vision, of her crossing a busy street, seeming disoriented.

At work, both Hae-young’s present ideas for potential signature dishes for their company, but Soo-kyung thinks our Hae-young’s suggestion is too simple. She tells our Hae-young to come back with something more trendy, or she’s fired. Geez, she’s a loon at work, too.

She even tells Sung-jin to keep his entire team out of creating menu ideas, but he argues that our Hae-young was instrumental in the company’s success at opening Korean-style restaurants. He blames her lack of promotion on her admirable ability never to brag about her work, and actually blames himself for not pushing her forward more.

The other Hae-young tries again to invite our Hae-young out for drinks, and when our Hae-young asks why, she says that she met with Do-kyung today. She tells her that they plan to see each other for a while, asking if that’s okay, but our Hae-young just says, “It’s not okay.”

Soo-kyung exits the building behind them, talking to someone on the phone who wants to know what our Hae-young is wearing. It’s Do-kyung — interesting.

That’s when our Hae-young finds herself at the bus stop, facing her ex-fiance Tae-jin again out of the blue. They exchange awkward hellos, and Hae-young reflexively says they should go out to dinner sometime before realizing how strange that would be. But Tae-jin jumps on the idea, and says he’ll call her later.

But when he gets back in the car, there’s a pretty woman peeking out of the passenger window, smiling at Hae-young. That’s too much of a one-two punch in one day for Hae-young, and she drinks away her heartbreak.

As it turns out, Do-kyung was confirming what Hae-young is wearing because of his concerning vision wherein she’s staggering across a busy street, seeming very disoriented. She’s wearing the same shirt today as in his vision, and when he has the vision again, he uses a brief glimpse of a building to figure out where she’ll be.

Hae-young is there already, very drunk and wobbly, and about to cross the street. Two guys horse around and she thinks it’s time to cross, so she walks right out into heavy traffic. Do-kyung hears the horns honking, but not until Hae-young is in the middle of the street.

It’s too dangerous to go after her so he calls out to her from the curb, and though she hears him, she’s too inebriated to respond. Cars be damned, Do-kyung follows after her, but they both make it to the other side safely before he catches up. He stops to ask her where she’s going, but she can only look around, confused, and say she was going to eat.

Do-kyung takes Hae-young and feeds her, where she eats as if in a trance. He stops her before she makes herself sick, and she slurs that he’s acting very strange. He said he doesn’t like her, so why is he here?

Do-kyung says it’s because she seems to be having a hard time, but when she asks in what way, he gives himself away with his silence. Hae-young asks how he knows she saw her ex-fiance, so he pretends that he just guessed when he saw her condition while crossing the street.

She moans that she saw her Tae-jin on a day when she didn’t even wash her hair, awww, and tells Do-kyung that the guy who couldn’t stand to watch her eat asked her out to dinner.

Of course Hae-young is sick as a dog later, and Do-kyung can hear her heaving through their shared wall. Bless her heart, she can barely drag herself to bed, and Do-kyung goes out to get her some medicine. He practically throws it at her and orders her to take it, but she ignores the medicine and cries herself to sleep.

Soo-kyung is also drinking herself into oblivion at her usual restaurant, but she looks up fast when the waitress asks why she didn’t come last night — the man she used to come here with was here. Apparently he’d told the waitress he’s moving abroad, and that he wanted to come one last time.

Soo-kyung goes out to the street to scream and cry, and Jin-sang sees her as she’s driving past on his way home. He fusses at her to stop drinking every night, but she’s actually upset because she didn’t drink last night as usual.

Jin-sang grows concerned when he sees that Soo-kyung is crying, but she’s speaking in French again. This time he answers her in French, and tells her to just go see him if she misses him that much.

The fact that he speaks fluent French snaps Soo-kyung out of her caterwauling, but he says he didn’t tell her all this time because it seemed like she didn’t want to be understood. He knows the whole story: She met the guy while studying in Paris, and they dated after returning to Korea. But the guy has a fatal flaw — he’s married.

That literally sends Soo-kyung into a screaming fit, and Jin-sang catches her and says it’s not her fault for falling in love. He tells her again to just go see the man before he leaves, as he sweetly dries her tears.

An-na talks Hoon into going to the wrong coast again to record the waves, urging him not to cave to his brother’s demands (yeah, but he’s also his boss…). Hoon knows this is a bad idea, but he gives in to her, and the two play in the water.

When they sit to eat, An-na mentions that she’s been to this beach with a lot of guys, so Hoon asks how many guys she’s dated. It’s a big number but she justifies that she didn’t date any of them for long, that none of them lasted to their one-hundred-day anniversary. Probably because she asked for something really huge each time, like couple tattoos or to walk across the country together.

She admits the requests were tests, but all the guys failed. Hoon starts to worry what she’ll ask for when their hundred days is up, and does an actual spit-take when An-na says, “Live together.” If he says no, she’ll break up with him.

Hoon says she should just ask him to marry her, since living together is out of the question, but An-na doesn’t want to get married. She tells him sweetly that he still has time to think about it, or they could always just break up now.

Hae-young’s mom rushes out when she gets a call from Tae-jin’s mother, who thinks her son has been traveling abroad. She doesn’t know the true story either other than that supposedly Hae-young broke things off, though she says she still thinks highly of her. She asks if Hae-young might change her mind and rethink marrying Tae-jin.

Mom takes this information home, and she tells Dad that she doesn’t think Hae-young and Tae-jin should get married. Dad says they should let their daughter decide, but Mom thinks it’s better to let things lie. But she summons Hae-young to the house and tells her to just go talk to Tae-jin.

Hae-young bursts into tears, and finally tells the truth, that Tae-jin was the one who dumped her. Mom is stunned, and Dad balls up his fists like he’d love to go pound that jerk into the pavement for making his baby cry. Later, Mom starts to sob herself when she thinks how angry she was at Hae-young for canceling the wedding, and Dad breaks down soon after.

Outside her parents’ house Do-kyung steels himself and tries to call Hae-young, but chickens out. He sees Tae-jin drive up and look around, but he’s also too nervous to go in and ends up leaving. Do-kyung follows him, remembering Hae-young’s pain over being dumped the day before her wedding.

He works himself into such a fury that when Tae-jin stops for a turn, Do-kyung revs the engine and rams into the back of Tae-jin’s car. He pretends to have fallen asleep at the wheel, though his voice holds no remorse, and Tae-jin instantly recognizes him as the guy who smirked at him right before his life fell apart.

He asks if this is how Do-kyung celebrates his release from prison, and asks what Do-kyung’s problem is with him. He knows Do-kyung has something against him, but no matter how hard he’s thought about it, he can’t figure out why.

Do-kyung admits that ruining Tae-jin’s business was a mistake back then — but he meant to crash his car. He invites Tae-jin to sue him and starts to walk away, but Tae-jin pulls him back and gives him a strong right hook.

He screams that he still wants to know why, even if it was a mistake, but Do-kyung just thanks him for throwing the first punch. He says that Tae-jin can punch him a hundred times, as long as he gets one punch in return.

Tae-jin is confused but he takes Do-kyung up on his offer, and starts throwing fists. Do-kyung goes down and Tae-jin kicks him savagely, even picking Do-kyung up so he can knock him down again, but Do-kyung just asks for three more.

Tae-jin calls him a crazy bastard and turns his back, so Do-kyung goes in for his punch, but the police have been called by now. They hold Do-kyung back while he struggles like a wild animal, screaming, “Even if you went bankrupt, how could you say such a thing? How?!

That night Hae-young’s mother drags her out of bed, and they all three go to a noraebang. HAHA, I love this family. But later they’re all teary again, and Mom apologizes for how she yelled at Hae-young, thinking she was at fault for the canceled wedding. She cries, asking why Hae-young kept the truth a secret.

And then, it’s party time again! Soon enough they’re all crying together, then back to singing, and the whole evening goes back and forth like that. I think this may be my favorite family of all time. Mom and Dad are both hoarse by the time they head home, and they stop to rest by the river.

Mom and Dad go to get some beers, leaving Hae-young a lone for a bit, which is when she gets a call from Do-kyung. He’s home after a much-needed therapy session and is worried that she’s still out, and she says belligerently that she wants him to worry about her. Amazingly, Do-kyung admits that he’s worried, and tells her to come home.

Feeling contrary, Hae-young refuses unless he says he misses her, but he can’t do it. She hangs up on him, and wishes to herself that everyone who doesn’t love her would just die.

Do-kyung lies in bed and suddenly hears the horrible sound of a car crash, and clutches his head in agony. He jumps out of bed and runs outside in his pajamas, and calls Hae-young again.

He asks where she is, and when she hesitates to tell him (correctly pointing out that he sure does seem to like her), he uses his incredible hearing to listen to the background noise through the phone. He grabs a taxi and calls Hae-young again, but when she doesn’t answer, he texts her that he’s on his way and not to move.

But she’s in no mood to be obedient, and when her parents get back they all start walking towards home again. But she has a change of heart and tells them to go on ahead, and she’ll come home in a bit.

The look of relief on Do-kyung’s face when he finds Hae-young safe is amazing, but she just glares at him while a group of bikers cross the sidewalk between them. Once they pass he just says, “Let’s go,” and Hae-young follows, though she keeps a safe distance. She seems to know she has some sort of upper hand here, as she keeps catching him glancing at her as they walk.

Once on the subway she finally asks who he fought with, but he doesn’t say. He walks her home to her parents’ house, and she tells him that she told her parents the truth about her broken engagement. They’d be upset if they knew she was still hung up on Do-kyung.

But she can’t help the way she feels when he calls her or says, “Let’s go.” She feels foolish, so she doesn’t want to do this anymore. She declares this the end of it, asking if he has anything to say. The big idiot just tells her to watch out for cars, and leaves.

But as much as he’d like to forget all this, Do-kyung is woken in the middle of the night by that same sound of a car crashing. Whatever is happening, by the look on his face it looks painful and extremely frightening.

At breakfast, Hae-young’s mom worried out loud that there are things her daughter can’t tell her about, but at least she won’t end up with a guy who gets bored easily and isn’t loyal. She’d always worried Hae-young would end up that way, and is relieved that she won’t.

Dad speaks up, and asks Hae-young to move back home. They can get her stuff while she’s at work, and she’ll just come home here like nothing ever happened. Hae-young refuses and Mom flares, thinking she’s clinging to Do-kyung, but Hae-young just says she’ll do it herself soon.

Do-kyung is waiting when Dr. Park gets to work that morning, needing to talk about this newest premonition. He can hear the crash and feel the pain of the impact, like his entire body is breaking apart. The doctor thinks it’s strange that this time, he doesn’t see Hae-young, when all of his visions have centered on her, but Do-kyung thinks that this one is about himself.

He hesitates to get in his car after his session, and another premonition hits him. This one is more like the others, with Hae-young furious and fighting with him like a wildcat, while he tries to calm her down. Do-kyung sees himself pin her against a wall and, even though they’re both still angry, he kisses her.

COMMENTS

Well, the stakes are certainly rising, and that last vision was a doozy. Whatever is happening there, it’s obviously serious, because Hae-young looked angrier than we’ve ever seen her and Do-kyung really made that kiss matter. I can’t wait to see what that’s all about, though I can’t say the same for his car-crash vision.

I think Hae-young’s parents have made it to my “favorite drama parents of all time” list with this episode. They’re so caring and they love their girl so much, even if they sometimes don’t show it to her face. They way they all went to the noraebang and just got it all out, singing and screaming, then crying, then singing it out again, was just the best thing ever. I adore Mom especially, the way she will yell at Hae-young when she does something Mom doesn’t agree with, but defends her baby girl to the death if anyone else dares to criticize her. When Mom broke down in full-body grief over how she treated Hae-young when she thought she canceled the wedding, that was the first time watching this show that I’ve truly cried along with a character — her emotions were just so raw and real. And Dad… he may be the silent type, but his love for Hae-young is every bit as fierce as Mom’s. With just that one expression I believed that if Tae-jin had been in front of him in that moment, he would have beaten him to a pulp for hurting his daughter. It’s no wonder Hae-young is drawn to Do-kyung, because he’s so like her father… quiet, says few words, but feels things very deeply and constantly.

But Do-kyung needs help — I mean I think he seriously needs help, possibly even more than his current therapist can provide. I’m glad that he does seek professional counseling for his issues, so that’s a good start, but I’m still concerned that he seems to be getting worse and not better. His visions are coming on faster, and they’re starting to overlap each other, a new one arriving before the last one has actually happened. Obviously his mother did a number on his ability to connect with feelings like love (because no, pitying people you love as a matter of course is not normal), and I worry that his quick shutdown when Hae-young asked about his father masks something even more devastating in his past.

He claims not to like Hae-young, but just the thought of Tae-jin hurting her makes him snap like a wild beast, and he can’t help himself from seeking her out when he knows she needs someone nearby. I think Do-kyung does love her, but he just can’t connect with that feeling. But his way of loving is deeply disturbing, and I’m starting to believe somewhat dangerous, and I go back to what I said in my last recap — both Hae-young and Do-kyung need to do some real work on themselves before either of them is emotionally healthy enough to be in any relationship right now. And that’s before we even take into account the fact that Do-kyung is having prophetic visions — I’m extremely concerned for his mental health. I think he’s breaking down right in front of our eyes.

For example, am I the only one that thought, when he was screaming at Tae-jin, “How could you say such a thing?” that he was really screaming at himself? He’s not being rational towards Tae-jin — nothing Tae-jin has done warranted being attacked that way. But I can see Do-kyung turning that fury in on himself, because he just said something extremely hurtful to Hae-young when he said he didn’t like her, then ridiculed her family. I think he’s angry with himself, and projecting that onto Tae-jin because he’s an easy target. It’s simple for Do-kyung to go after Tae-jin for hurting Hae-young (and I do think that the way he ended things was unnecessarily hurtful), but the truth is, Tae-jin didn’t hurt her any more than Do-kyung is doing right now. At least Tae-jin kept it short and didn’t drag it out, but Do-kyung can’t do that. He knows he doesn’t have the right to be with Hae-young unless he’s willing to be completely honest about his part in her broken engagement, but he can’t let go of her, either. It’s not fair to Hae-young, and she knows it (even if she doesn’t understand exactly why he’s stringing her along), and I think that deep down, Do-kyung knows it too… and it’s tearing him apart.

Oh man, this drama has gotten me OBSESSED. I'm still loving all the characters, and the 2 episode extension has gotten me both worried and excited... But like you eloquently put it, neither of our characters are ready to be in a relationship... So hopefully the extra episodes help them mature, grow, and figure out their problems so they can enter a healthy loving relationship with each other.

Here's to eagerly waiting for Monday (which seems like an oxymoron... But I guess that's what dramas do to people)

That's the word- OBSESSION!.. I think my weeks have started revolving around oh hae young. I keep waiting for Monday, like a nutcase given that its summer vacations.

Do Kyung needs help. I just wish they would go back to their original partners.. or stay single and heal themselves before thinking about the other. This is going to be especially difficult for Do Kyung with his visions about oh hae young. But then the pretty one does not want to get back together. Oh poor Do Kyung. He is really going to cry bad because of Oh hae young.

Waiting eagerly for the next episodes!

Yes!!! OBSESSED!! I'm always counting days to Monday. Monday was never be this excessively welcome like this. I also like what LollyPip saying about the time apart both OHY and PDK need to evaluate things as well as their mental health.

Oshi,

Kim Mi-Kyung is the bee's knees. Loved her as Court Lady Choi in FAITH... and in YONG PAL.

I've mostly seen Lee Han-Wi in sageuks. It was surprising to see him in modern garb as Mr. Ko the butcher in COFFEE PRINCE, where he played an endearingly diffident bachelor. His performance here is a delight.

And loved her in my fav drama ever Master's sun, it's okay that's is love and glamorous temptation.

shazzytree,

I haven't seen those yet as most of my viewing has been sageuks. I forgot that I had enjoyed her role in GREAT AMBITION, which foreshadowed Lady Choi.

I make a point of live watching ANOTHER MISS OH because it brings together KMK, Lee Han-Wi, and Seo Hyun-Jin. Individually they're great actors. I really love seeing them portray a family.

She will ALWAYS be the crazy ahjumma from Healer to me and it has made me love Kim Mi-Kyung in every role I've seen since then - and all the ones before. She'd be so much fun to know in real life!

Kim Mi-Kyung is the best! She makes everything she's in better, even if it's kind of a turd (ahem, Heirs...). When she gets something good to work with, it's so much fun to watch her go!

i loved her in heirs! she was good in everything i've seen her in but Heirs was such a shitty drama but she like elevated the quality in every scene seh was in. her fave character of mine is def the one in Healer but her MS character is a close second. she was livin the dream in that one haha.
I just want her to be in all the things basically.

Ahjumma! Yes, she's awesome. The whole family is amazing, that scene at the karaoke interspersed with the crying jags and then finally followed up with the hoarse voices at the end was just brilliant. My god, I love this family.

I thought no norebang scene could ever topple my n. 1 in Kim Sam Soon (it may have been the hardest I've ever laughed in a drama), but now I am not so sure...
Dad with the wig was what finally broke me.

0

I concur. The way the family moves through grief together is great- singing and crying then being quiet . It's a behavior I think I should incorporate into my own life.

Did anyone notice the songs were the ones she sang at the office party? That made me cry because the family songs were shouted down by her coworkers, and she obviously needed to work through things.

The mostly silent dad makes my heart break, and the mom is so intense of a fierce creature! Though these actors always make me feel their characters - the overall texture of their performances in this show is really wonderfully rich. I really am looking for them as people in the drama. I often fast forward family scenes because they get shrill. Here I want to hang on to see what happens.

i never thought about it like that before but yeah DK does share alot of traits with her (precious and loving) papa. i'm not uh close with my dad so its not a feeling i've ever felt re a guy but yeah it makes sense. its cute. I was gonna say DK is clearly way more messed up in the head (and heart) than her dad is but i remember her dad telling her mom that if he hadnt met her (mom) he'd be...well idr the exact line but it came off like his life was in the crapper till he met mom. (and she's so great so i totally get it tbh).

our OHY and DK would be such a great couple if they could just get past all their baggage. tbh I think our OHY doesnt have nearly as much shit to work thru as DK does. but it goes down to having a strong support system. DK def has more of one than other OHY did, with Jin Sang and his nutty but loyal noona SK but (and largely cuz of how taciturn he is) its not on the level of OHY's closeness with her family. Like the most support he's getting lately is from his therapist D: i mean im so glad he sees one! but that makes me feel so sad for him that his actual family/friends cant be there for him in the same way.
EEK at his rage fits in ep 8 tho. why is it always the quiet ones with the volcanic tempers?

One of the many things I like about this drama is that there is so much to relate to on a personal level. I feel like this show really connects with us viewers.

The Parents for instance. I adore OHY's parents. However, I was actually sadden with her mother's reasoning for being so relieved that OHY didn't call off the wedding. I believe her reasoning was that if OHY had, she would be undeserving or unfit for a relationship (due to lack of loyalty). Was I interpreting that right?

I was 18 and engaged to a man that loved me very much, but after being engaged for awhile, I felt dread instead of excitement for the wedding. I realized that I loved how much he loved me, but I didn't feel as much love for him in return. Basically, I wasn't in love with him enough to want to get married to him at 18. I have never ever regretted calling off the wedding (although I was deeply sadden for him, and it was the hardest thing I have ever done in my life). Breaking up with him eventually allowed me to find my husband who I'm very happy married to (we just celebrated 5 years). Please, don't get married out of loyalty when you know that it's not right.

Mostly, I'm surprised that this show is striking an emotional cord within me on so many different levels: the good, the bad and the ugly.

I hope it keeps being awesome!

No I also got that her mother meant she was the kind of person undeserving of being in a relationship because she breaks them easily.
Does Lollypip knows Korean? I think she relies on english subs, maybe thats the reason she didn't get it.

javebeans and girlfriday are korean-american and afaik they know korean but the other recappers idk. im guessing lolly doesnt tho. since it does sound like she directly pulls her understanding from the subs (which is ok!) but it makes it confusing for those of us who ALSO dont know korean well enough and it becomes a case where various nuances in the dialogue are lost in translation. tbh for a drama like this, having a native korean speaker would prob be better than not. tho that's not a dig at lolly. just how some dramas are prob much simpler to translate/follow vs others even if u have bad subs or are watching as a non korean speaker without subs. like the diff between this and say Healer for example.

This comment was so unnecessary. It's not like this is a complicated historical drama, or a fusion that relies heavily on Korean culture or subtle language tricks. It just sounds like you want JB or GF to recap because it's so popular - I really don't see how the small confusion constitutes a "better" recapper. Even native speakers make mistakes, and Lollypip is doing a fantastic job.

Besides, recaps are not a historical document - there's no one way to write them. Everyone has their own techniques, and no recap is perfect. You should be happy someone is recapping it at all.

This episode made me so frustrated at Do Kyung. I just want him to think of a game plan and get his head together, he's so all over the place. It's obvious he loves or is falling in love with OHY but he's making things worst by stringing her along and not allowing her to let go of him and then he's complicating matters with her ex-fiancee. I wish he will fix things with Pretty OHY and Tae Jin and then see where things between OHY and him lead.

I'm wondering if we're actually hearing deja vu instead of a premonition. I wouldn't put it past Writer-nim to pull a fake-out. Perhaps something involving missing dad and an accident in which young(er) PDK was involved. Or not.

*throws up hands*

0

@PakalanaPikake

That auditory hallucination was of Our OHY stoning PDK's window when the other OHY visited him. The visuals for that premonition came a bit later after the auditory 'teasers'. :-D

Good point on the deja vu and the fake-outs. Than again, wouldn't DK remember that, having experienced it before instead of being virtually clueless about the sound?

0

@patinalee,

Ah, right. That's why what I initially thought of as an auditory hallucination was actually the sound track of a premonition. Thanks for the refresher!

I'm thinking that if DK had already been in an accident (perhaps as a kid, with his dad), this could actually be deja vu instead of a premonition. He might not remember it if he were seriously traumatized. That could account for the sensation of physical pain, which I believe involves different nerve pathways.

As for memory of physical sensation and movement, bodywork such as Rolfing, myofascial release, CranioSacral Therapy, and Rubenfeld Synergy Method (among others) can release tension locked in the muscles and fascia. Owing to scoliosis, I've tried various approaches to improving my posture. I can attest that shifts in consciousness have accompanied some of these modalities. Your mileage may vary...

Also, a strong emotional shock concurrent with or immediately following an event could block the memory of it. I've experienced that, and thought I was losing my marbles because I couldn't remember what happened. Luckily, I had a witness who was able to fill me in.

Since we don't really know anything yet about DK's early life, it'll be interesting to see if it's addressed in coming episodes.

0

yeah i hope its more of a fake out the way they did with other OHY making it look like she was recovering from terminal illness or smth ala Kim Sam Soon.
but he did say earlier in the drama he feels like he's heading towards or his life is gonna end tragically or smth like that. it was v ominous. and now the car crash thing. it would be a really weird makjang turn for an otherwise very grounded drama but we'll see. there does seem to be alot of car related troubles on this show tho lol. so many dangerous walks thru busy traffic! it might be a crash that happens NEAR him or well. i guess we'll just have to wait to find out. dont hurt me too bad drama ;_;

@Tai,

That feeling of impending doom that DK expressed may be his higher self/inner child/spirit letting him know that he can no longer keep living on autopilot. It may not refer to physical death, per se, but his having to grow beyond the adaptations that he had to subconsciously make in order to survive in his dysfunctional family. All three of the kids are off the beam in one way or another.

As the eldest son, he strikes me as the Family Hero, which is an exhausting gig. Toss another log of filial piety on the fire, and his goose will self-immolate if he doesn't change his ways. Ceasing to enable Evil Mom's movie-making habit would be a very healthy move, as would cutting off all contact with her. Moving his studios out of the same building would also be good. That's for starters.

The old ways of living no longer work, as we can see from his alarming mental states. As scary as it is to leave familiar ways of being behind, it's really the only option. That sense of impending doom might just be what the caterpillar is feeling -- before the butterfly emerges from the chrysalis.

I was feeling that way at first but I realized that it is because it was increasingly hard to accept him as a partner for OHY with every passing episode. We're used by dramas to evolve by making seemingly mean characters show their better side so that the love between your mains is acceptable and welcome at the end of the show. In this drama, it was sort of easy to forget that DK had done something unforgivable at the beginning of the show (being dumped does not give you the right to destroy your former partner's wedding to someone else, let alone get that innocent someone else ruined and in jail just because you're jealous). But the latest episodes have reminded us that DK is not healthy and may even be dangerous. Then frustration gave rise to thankfulness. At last a show that is consistent with the flaws of the characters, where we cannot predict all clichéd unexplained improvements that will lead to the expected happy ending.
DK grew up in a family where there was no love and children were exploited and abandoned by mom as needed in her narcissistic pursuit of wealth and fame. Children of narcissists may be very good at functioning in the workplace (they learn early on to take care of their own needs) but have great difficulty trusting and relating to others. It is no wonder he ended up with pretty OHY, who was a safe bet--her need to be loved at all costs made her unlikely to abandon DK, and at some unconscious level that must have made him feel safe. Of course being dumped at the last minute left him reeling--the reason he was with her, at the bottom line, was probably that he felt she would never leave.
"Normal" OHY, however, having the safe, loving base of her parents, seems really weak but is not. She actually is strong enough to be vulnerable and feel the pain when it comes, and allow herself to go with it knowing she will get over it eventually. This must be both impressive and frightening for pretty OHY and DK who are so fragile they never dare allow themselves a moment of weakness or fear. Normal OHY offers DK the chance for growth, as opposed to pretty OHY, who just offered a seemingly (but not truly) safe opportunity to stay the same (afraid and frozen) and not rock the boat. But the growth that can happen with OHY requires feeling all the pain and disappointment of a lifetime of lovelessness and abandonment. It's no wonder DK is having a mental breakdown. I hope the show finds a way to heal him before the end that does not betray the truthfulness it has shown this far.

Seriously, does Oh Hae Young have to keep up her life-threatening antics while out of it? How long before she gets hit by a car while walking through racing traffic, seriously?

Do-kyung's sis is no better. Drunk as a skunk every night...very becoming, not. Well I can take the women's flaws bit not when it gets overdone like that's all they sum up as, women defined by their heartbroken emotions. I think the other Oh Hae Young turned out the most balanced of all the drama's women, considering.

In this episode and the latest one Our Hae Young’s parents really shined. The most memorable scene for me is when Our Hae Young finally told her parents the truth behind the wedding. When those last tears spilled down her face, mine fell with hers too. As a child I remember many times trying to be strong in front of my parents, but there is a limit to how much you can hold before ultimately letting the tears out. When you are at your most vulnerable and open, the unconditional love a parent has is one of the most comforting feeling you can rely on. The norebang scene, and the tears was a nice touch to how they helped release all those emotions.

At this point I don’t think Our Hae Young should be in a relationship. Do Kyung’s recent actions sends all the wrong messages and I’m glad Our Hae Young knows that it isn’t healthy for her. I want Our Hae Young to be able to find happiness within herself, self love is difficult and it’s something we all tend to forget. However I hope somewhere along the show she will know that loving someone doesn’t mean you can throw yourself away for them. It means two people who care about another, and also themselves.

That's so true and her actions in previous episode prove it.. you don't go on hating people just because your significant other hate them. You should have valid reason..
This reminds me of CITT so much where soel didn't simply hate in-ho because Jung hate(rest of the story is bitter) and even do-kyung saying he pity other oh hae young is similar to the past of in-ho and Jung.. Where Jung broke in-ho's hand and other oh hae young broke the wedding (both are wrong but understandable )

Both do-kyung and oh hae young should understand the proper meaning of love before they jump to any relationship...

What's so refreshing about OHY is that her character dosen't confirm to the normal tropes. For instance, she doesn't pull a Uee from Marriage Contract and just go along with whatever the second lead girls wants.

If this had been Marriage Contract and the many other shows just like it, the lead would be having drinks with the ex and pretty much encouraging her to date the lead guy out of noble idiocy.

Exactly! I finally feel like I have a drama heroine I can identify with. Yeah, she can be petty and immature (that rock throwing was waaaay out of line) but at least she's not going to live life as a doormat.

I also like that she's not straight up bitchy to 'pretty' OHY, she's assertive.

I LOVED that scene in the elevator where she let that creepy boss have a go at her for having packages delivered at work only to turn around and hand it to the rightful owner. I feel like it simply highlights the obvious differences in how they're treated.

In real Korean life do people actually commonly treat their subordinates (or social inferiors) so explicitly/forthrightly terribly? It's so common in kdrama's and I just find it so offputting.

Nor will she say - its all your fault. I loved you and you pitied me. You made me feel like shit. You should apologise.

tbh i aint mad at her tho. they do need to spend some time with each other again. either they can finally part again on amicable terms. or her suspicions, that he's not yet over her like he thinks, are true and she can have that second chance she's been wanting with him. either way its needed closure. whether its in saying goodbye properly or starting over again.

I found it very selfish of Pretty Hae Young to make that request of DK. I mean sure she needs closure, but does he need it from her too? He clearly hasn't moved on but he is also reluctant to talk to her. I felt part of it was Pretty Hae Young forcing herself back into DK's life, and like some of us has suggested, she might be using it as an excuse to get back with him.

So glad Our Hae Young told her that she does mind Pretty Hae Young seeing DK. I found Pretty Hae Young quite insensitive on this issue.

1. Is there a group discount for referrals for therapists? Like, refer 2, get the 3rd Free? 1-800-THERAPY?

2. So many tears in this episode...almost more than beer.

3. I don't actually trust the other OHY here. To PDK, she says she's trying to get closure for both of them. To OHY, she says she's going to keep seeing PDK. I feel like she has this need, unconscious or otherwise, to beat OHY. i wonder if it has to do with OHY having parents who brought her lunch at school every day and clearly doted on her when she didn't.

4. I love OHY's Mom. This is all.

I originally interpreted NOHY's request to OHY at face value... On the other hand, I might be gullible. ;-)

Why so many games of ping-pong?

That toothy smile sends me up the wall... She has just admitted she's acted her whole life -- and isn't about to stop. So maybe this whole saying goodbye on an up note is an act, too.

Her statement that other guys are interested in her also made me kind of wonder. Was it purely a statement of fact, or a covert attempt to get him jealous?

Her declaration that she's continuing her Happy Act does not bode well for future relationships. It didn't work with DK, who saw right through it. So now she's going to go out with guys who are too undiscerning to see her insecurity? Insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different outcome... This sounds like a sure-fire ticket to more misery.

I was suprised DK crashed into TJ's car as well. Most likely a implusive move at the moment. Emotions got the better of DK and he just went full out instead. However getting punched by TJ doesn't change anything, and it's only a temporary form of self inflicted pain.

The way he kept coming and going, passing the door is soo interesting. The way he's looking out of her, missing her, denying her, yet pleading her to come home is tugging my heart.

I think there’s something more complex going on when Do Kyung attacked Tae Jin.

On the one hand, Do Kyung cannot stand how much Tae Jin hurt Hae Young. He feels so guilty because part of why Tae Jin hurt her was because of what he did do Tae Jin to end up in jail. That’s why he keeps saying beat me up how many times you one, throw a lot of punches, but at least let me punch you once. It is his projection of his own feelings of guilt and love for Hae Young. I do not see Tae Jin as someone so innocent. Because Do Kyung is justified in some way in his actions, how insensitive can someone be to ask Hae Young to go eat a meal together when he broke up with her telling her he hated how she looked like eating. Did Tae Jin just forgot what he did and asking her to eat was like hurting her twice but hurting her more saying something like that like nothing happened. Do Kyung says it several times, yeah you were ruined but you didn’t have to say that… The fact is Tae Jin lied, he couldn’t be brave enough to tell her exactly what happened to him, why he needs to cancel their wedding. He puts up pretenses just the other Hae Young, Tae Jin does not want to be vulnerable in front of Hae Young. His lie is very different from Do Kyung. He flat out lies to Hae Young that he has no feelings for her. I get that he said hurtful things to Hae Young but Hae Young sees through Do Kyung and his inability to not admit how he truly feels. Hae Young can tell Do Kyung has feelings for her. And I think Do Kyung is really trying hard not to get entangled with her because of what he did to Tae Jin, him being the indirect cause of her pain. Yet, for Hae Young, Tae Jin remains completely opaque, not transparent in his actions.

Agree with you on OHY1 can see through Dokyung's 'lies' that he doesn't care (love) for her. It's such a contrast that OHY1 could not see through Taejin's lie when he tried to break up with her. I think that right there, is telling.....

Addendum:

Do Kyung expresses himself through his actions not through words. And this is why Hae Young knows he likes her. She gets him this is why in the phone conversation, she has to ask him, tell me you missed me. I thought this episode was so much about who Do Kyung is as a person. This guy wanted to win on table tennis just once against the other Hae Young so he can ask her to get married. He worked so hard so that he can beat her and get his wish. He risked his own life twice to make sure Hae Young is not in harm’s way. This is how he shows his love. It is just awful that Hae Young and Do Kyung works so well together, they match each other well, and get each other, only if they only met under different circumstances, but that’s why we have a drama.

I think you just biased toward do kyung like many other commenter bc he is the main lead for many ep.
tae jin just appear, want to fix things back by asking to do the things he once said he hate,
and who gonna believe someone would broke a marriage just bc of someone eating habit a day before marriage and still willing to save the girl face? Ofc the eating is not the reason

that's the plot hole in the entire show up to this week, do kyunh portrayed as a hero that will make up the loss romantic relationship with the lead girl, the music and the accident choose him while ignoring that he mostly not a good individul, he is a jerk but no, the only jerk is the guy who chooses to sacrifice himself based on great stress and doesn't tell the fiancee, now he can't get any chance anymore

I don't agree with taejin attitude but people giving too much easy acceptance to do kyung just bc he is drunk by choice and he is the male lead.
you can call me a troll, but I don't get the love for do kyung at all,
he is the same egoistic male lead in kdrama, he jsut don't do it to the female lead which in fanservice and people like his build.

I rest my case

Do Kyung was hateful with his comments about her and her family despite knowing that it will hurt her. He had no right to attack Tae Jin at all.

"Worst guy ever"? Wow that's pretty biased.

0

Well aside from the fact that Tae-jin is pitiful because of what happened to him after Do-kyung AND Jin-sang's messing up his business, and the fact that his supposed marriage got ruined; aside from that one flashback that showed him and Hae-young before, what other qualities about him that makes him the right choice at this point?

For the record, we have not seen how he treats Hae-young just yet, and I know that Do-kyung is kinda messed up on his and the things he said are inexcusable, and he does things that are not laudable, but what else have we seen about Tae-jin thus far?

In the same way the people are defending Do-kyung, there are A LOT of people out there who are criticizing whatever he's doing precisely because we see much more of him. Meanwhile, there are people already going to the Tae-jin side without even considering the slightest bit that he might not be as caring with Hae-young as people think he is.

In short: Do-kyung gets heavily criticized because of the story's focus on him, and people who gets what he's doing naturally explain it. Meanwhile, Tae-jin whose story isn't exactly explored yet gets too much defense and a cry for SLS. Isn't that weirder? No double standard or bias here, just people understanding exactly what's going on with everyone in the show.

I rest my case.

I think the double standard she means is Taejin got so much flak just by small screen time while do kyung get defended over and over when he did the wrong things bc he is the male lead,

saying do kyung wrong is not gonna male his character less than what it should be

then tae jin got roasted for always be the wrong guy bc he breaks OHY heart and the break up sequence, people can't let go TJ wring doing like what they did to OHY2 or DK just bc he directly hurt OHY1

0

Required fields are marked *

WTF are you talking about? Tae-Jin breaking up with Oh Hae Young just because of jail without telling her is unforgivable. Same with what Other Hae Young did to Do Kyung.

Nothing Do Kyung has done is actually as bad as that. "Still willing to save the girl's face"? That's nonsense. He's just softening the blow because he doesn't want to actually take responsibility.

0

that wasn't softening the blow,
that's giving her the upper hand than him

so Tae Jin is the guy that get dumped like Do Kyung, the one that get left up with all the reason got blame in him.

in society, the one who get dumped is in the lower case bc they must have done wrong to get dump like that.

after read your comment multiple times,
I think what you mean is viewer that biased toward Tae Jin and Do kyung character

Taejin always get the harsh part of comment because he broke the female lead heart despite the small screen time and that's the only things he did

meanwhile

do kyung get passed for his bad behavior because he indirectly start all of the dawn fall, get drunk by choice, and make up the loss heart to the female lead by making her feel happy again despite still not a good character

both of them is in the same ground but people love do kyung bc he is the male lead and he has the chance to make the female lead happy and the plus is he is Eric

this for me is dejavu between Siwon and park seo joon character in SWP, Siwon maybe everyone type of guy but PSJ character is definitely the one for HJE in the story

'I don't like the way you eat' could mean more to OHY and HTJ. We didn't get to see their story, how they meet and such. It could be related to food seeing as our OHY works in food industry so maybe they met while she was working at one of the restaurant? Maybe he said he fell in love with her because of how she eats before? There must be some meaning behind that line to have our OHY to take it this hard.

What I liked in this episode:
-- Soo-kyung knew which OHY her brother asked her about! He asked for her phone # : I suppose it was of the other OHY. He asked the color of the shirt she was wearing and SK knew he was referring to our OHY !
-- in the staff meeting room, there was a big wall poster of a guy with the word "why?". Wasn't he Louis de Funes?!
-- Jin-Sang speaks French ? It was a nice surprise, but I couldnt understand what he said!

What I disliked in this episode:
-- I couldn't understand why the other OHY couldn't have told DK about cancelling the wedding, rather than not showing up. But what is done is done... Yet, she is still asking DK for another round of ping-pong (aware of what it means to both of them) and she lies to our OHY about seeing DK again? That's it. I'm not feeling any empathy towards her anymore.
-- the crying scene with the parents and our OHY. I was moved by their pain, but I just felt the acting a bit forced.
-- the two last episodes drained me! To be quite honest, I get the pains that our OHY is going through, but I couldn't keep up with your OHY's feelings. They were all over the place for me. One minute, she is upset at DK, the other minute, she is embarrassed, and the next minute, she is happy that he is thinking of her (as if she seems willing to forgive him easily). Maybe it's an editing issue? For ex, I moved on from our OHY's breakup from TJ. But we spent considerable amount of time seeing her and her parents crying, with lots of flashbacks. I get that her parents felt guilty of their previous reaction, but I couldn't wait to move on to the next step.
-- both our leads need to step back and take a break from any relationship!

What I still didn't understand in this episode:
-- how the sound of the east coast ocean is different than the sound of the west coast ocean. Maybe it will be revealed later, just like the sound of light example...

The other ohy wasn't lying about seeing dk again. She was asking permission to our ohy if it was ok to see him again for a little bit. She wanted to see dk again by playing ping pong, so they could rewrite the way they ended. She said to our ohy, I wanted to tell you myself because I didn't want you feeling bad hearing it from dk. It's not your fault that things ended up twisted like this. (I'm paraphrasing here, can't remember word per word what she said)
Other ohy actually came across as pretty genuine to me. She has this desire to portray herself as a happy person and she's trying to smile through this whole situation. I'll have to continue watching her to see if this is truly her and not some scheme. So used to seeing schemes and manipulations coming from the second lady, so this is honestly very refreshing!

But I thought that DK did decline seeing the other OHY for a round of ping pong. I thought he was clear in not wanting to continue seeing her.

Just want to comment about the ocean sound. They have different sounds because of the different condition of the beaches. In my country, East Coast has long, white sandy beach while West has short, muddy beach - still sandy but with mud. So the waves come and go with different sounds. East's more windy too so ocean sounds louder than West. Must be the same in Korea I think.

I was thinking that too. Additionally some beaches also attract different kind of birds that make different noises. Some beaches are more secluded whereas some beaches are very crowded with people and businesses near by. In other words, not all beaches are the same, but can be vastly different.

Thanks sharing this info ! That makes sense, if the coasts are clearly different. I do not know how they are in Korea though. Where I am from, there are beaches that, I think, would seem the same in both coasts. But I now suppose there must be some differences still.

I'm not blaming his acting, I've just never liked his acting. Which is why I've never been able to finish any of his shows, even the highly recommended ones (like Que Sera Sera) or the ones with other actors I like (like Jeong Yumi who played opposite Eric in Discovery of Romance).

I like the show. I like the story it's trying to tell, and I like all of the characters. But this episode took the Do Kyung character in a direction that, as a person who doesn't like Eric Moon's acting, I didn't think he handled well. My fear is that he'll continue in this vein, and I wanna finish this show; thus, my agony. I don't think anyone who likes his acting is wrong; he's just never been my cup of tea.

I don't see anything wrong with Eric's acting. on the other hand, I thought he did an excellent job for potraying the silent-confused-mourning-awkward guy. We can see he was the cheerful-full spirit guy before with pretty Oh Hae Young (from the table tennis scenes or their past relationship scenes).

I adore Eric's acting more than Seo Hyun Jin, being honest. I mean, both doing great job but it's more difficult to deliver emotions when the actor speak so less. And Eric did it very well. I think it's kinda rare in kdrama.

For making people understand what you feels without saying words is a tough work. I appreciate what Eric did as potraying Park Do Kyung. He isn't the best actor in Korea, of course. But he's the first male lead to play such a role. And I think it's impressive. Anyone notice that cameraman always focus on his face? Because they want to make sure viewers catch his emotions through the eyes.

He spends a lot of times just listening and keep in silent for what mostly people surrounds him talk, argue or making jokes.

Joey,

I think Eric is doing a fine job portraying the taciturn DK.

If you enjoy observing non-verbal expression of emotion, then you might want to watch THE KING'S DAUGHTER, SU BAEK-HYANG.

Yoon Tae-Young is stunning as a deaf-mute assassin turned family man. His expressiveness is a tour de force, especially when he's with his wife and kids. Plus his martial arts scenes are terrific. One of my all-time favorite characters. I'd love to see him in more sageuks.

Make me wondering why so much hate toward Eric? Is it because he's Idol turned actor

It's always the same old thing, when it was during Discovery of Romance, we did not have the right to say that we liked more Taeha Kang (Eric) that Nam Ha Jin (Sungjoon).
For some we are necessarily biased ^^ "
While many explained through long comments (more than just "Eric ♥") why they preferred this character.
You will see that this will be the same here once that Lee JaeYoon (Han Tae Jin) will become even more important.
Some people do not know accept that others may have a different perspective.

While in the end there were more people saying "people defend Kang Taeha because it's Eric." that people saying "I love Kang Taeha because it's Eric".

I personally do not really like Shinhwa, but I appreciate Eric as an actor, I do not like him in all his dramas, but Que Sera Sera was one of my earliest dramas and he was really good in it.

She/he wrote I was on Kang tae Ha side because it was played by Eric while that time was my drama of him XD.

And nope, I don't like Shinhwa (no offense to fans). I prefer younger idols XD.

0

Idky people hating on Eric. I actually liked the character Kang Taeha before knowing that he is Eric of Shinhwa. Idk about others, but to me, Kang Taeha is like a real life boyfriend material, that everyone will know at least one like him in real life. I think his portrayal of Kang Taeha was really good, not because he's Eric but he really absorb all the personality of the character and expressed it in his acting. Then this totally opposite character as an introvert middle child sound director, and I never think of him as Kang Taeha like he is just plain different person. I think that's what makes his acting so great and loved by everyone. including me. So yes, he is a great actor to me, not biased because he is handsome or Shinhwa member, but because of his realistic acting.

Just as I can find "great actors" that many people love, but not be sensitive to their acting.

But to say "mediocre" it's really small.
Especially that the 3 leads are or were idols. ;)

0

@Angie I think people are mature enough to realize that not all critique toward actor is because he is an idol,
he can be good and can be bad no matter he is an actor or an idol,
here's he is an actor, so ofc it's about his acting as actor,

I just don't like people assume that the commenters who doesn't feel his acting blame it to the prejudice towards idol when it's not,

he just not that good,
if you don't feel any actor is good enough, shouldn't that actually the right critique towards his profession

the quick blame jump into believing this is an idol hate bandwagon when people not praising him is what I don't understand

0

LoL. Eric was praised by critics from long time ago when he did Que Sera Sera and again two years ago through Discovery of Romance. And as the information, Discovery of Romance won BANFF festival in Canada and Houston festival despite the low ratings. And he got triple crown from KBS drama award, again from the low rating show Discovery of Romance. If not because he's capable actor, I don't know what to say again. Just saying.

0

Yes I'm a long time Shinhwa fans, and no I don't think Eric is flawless actor. He has this habit, making particular gestures while act that I wish he could reduce.
The reason why I ask the question is because I think the words some people use for Eric Imo are harsh and downright insulting, like personal attack.
One thing I notice is that they often use "because of Eric..." Reason which I think is disrespectful to people who like Eric as an actor.

0

i've been liking eric's acting—it's the first time i've ever liked him in anything/found him appealing!

I love how ballsy this show is. Many may not be able to handle that scene between DK and TJ, but damn...by the time the scene played out and we got to that "Hit me 100 more times, then I'll hit you just once!" AHHHH, Do-kyung. He really is self-destructing because of guilt, love, & the burden of those visions guiding his every move and I kind of love that the show is deeply exploring what such conflict might do to him. He sought out Tae-jin in that way because it was the perfect chance to get the punishment HE deserved for all he's done. And his complete self-sabotage also gave him the chance to become OHY's avenger, however unjustly. He definitely knew he had no damn right, but damn if it wasn't powerful to see our unexpressive hero completely lose it because of anger at himself & anyone who caused our Hae-young pain.

I totally agree with what you said, and like the self-sabotage part, that in that scene he is punishing both he and Tae Jin for what they did to Hae Young, but that part when he says save me just one punch against you, omg, is so indicative of his own conflicted feelings and as you said how he wants to hurt Tae Jin for Hae Young.

+1 Totally agree. I never saw Do Kyung's fight scene with Tae Jin coming and some people have derided him for being completely in the wrong by provoking Tae Jin with the car crash. I disagree with them and felt this scene was necessary in revealing the full extent of Do Kyung's emotions towards Hae Young and it revealed all the complexities within him. His conflicting feelings between falling for Hae Young and seeking revenge for her, yet also his overwhelming guilt and frustration at knowing he is the one at fault for her circumstance. Despite his acknowledgement of his mistake towards Tae Jin, it didn't stop him from punishing Tae Jin and absolving him from any responsibility for how he so cruelly broke up with Hae Young.

IMO he's not frequenly mean, he's having premonition not hallucinating, and I find DoKyung's family, except the mother of course to be very warm, loving and expressive. My own family is what other people consider as normal respectful family but inside is full of negativity, unsupportive, simply toxic. I would love to have a family like DoKyung's.
DK is smart, perceptive plus he's a CEO. That I think is son-in law material :)

0

Crazykgirl,

I didn't expect his rear-ending Tae Jin, either. When I heard him accelerate to ramming speed, I had to brace for impact myself. ;-)

In light of DK's earlier conversation with OHY about hating someone who is hated by a loved one -- and stating that it's childish -- it seems that he's gone and done something similar. (I've never gotten the impression that OHY hates Tae Jin, however.)

DK is a certainly turning out to be conflicted as all get out, and I'm getting concerned about his mental state. Is he heading for a full-blown psychotic break? Or just hitting bottom from his crappy dysfunctional childhood? I hope he's not getting Jinned with a brain fetus...

Are some of those visions maybe actual deja vu from a auto accident in which he and his father were both involved when he was a kid? And that maybe he caused? After the earlier fake-out that Writer-nim pulled with deja vu actually being premonitions, it wouldn't surprise me.

It certainly was hard for me to stomach, considering I was firmly in the "he needs to apologize and make amends!" camp before the scene actually happened. I almost couldn't watch it when it started, but I think it's a testament to the writing that his inner turmoil was conveyed to me over the course of the scene. My only hope is that the drama doesn't shy away from where they've taken his character and that they have him properly face what he's done so he can redeem himself and heal in the process.

It may seem like I'm cutting Do-kyung slack because he's the lead, but I don't really think that's what I'm doing. I mean, yes, I'm more invested in his emotional journey than Tae-jin's. I understand his motivations better and I feel for him more even as I'm frustrated at him. Even if I think Do-kyung's behavior towards Tae-jin was unfair, I'm fascinated by the complexity of the emotions that drove him to doing what he did. Now I just hope that his character trajectory will take him to more healthy places.

Why do I have a feeling it will get worse before it gets better though...

It keeps me off-guard and therefore excited about the brilliance of the writing, directing and acting. All of the characters are so finely drawn and deeply fleshed out. And how about the amazing acting jobs of 21 year old Heo Young-ji??????? She kept looking familiar to me and I had to look it up. It is Young-ji from the first season of RoomMate!!! Wow - who knew that silly, sweet girl with the huge silent laugh could act like that? So many great people received their popular launch from Roommate, including Jackson from GOT7 and Seo Kang Joon. "I'm worried. So come home."

"Just come home."

Ugh, such a bittersweet conversation. He's so close but he's still too afraid of what he's feeling to admit it. And she won't accept it until he meets her halfway. Both the instances of her walking into traffic and him being unable to cross because of the bicyclists felt so symbolic of their relationship. He wants to go to her, but he just can't, there's too many obstacles in between them. Even when the bikes were gone, he remains on the opposite side of the path.

My only fear is that the moment he's finally brave enough to throw his reservations to the wind and "walk through the flames" to reach her will be the moment he gets hit by that damn car.

+1 to this. I love your observations about the obstacles between them - I think I noticed it but had not internalized the symbolism. The physical obstacles were there and then gone but the emotional/mental ones remained even after the physical ones were gone. Thanks for the insight!

And, oh my yes, I am so dreading that damn car...

Ohhh nooooooo... now even that stupid wallet scene from episode 1 is starting to feel like foreshadowing.

How many times has this drama shown him wanting to go somewhere, but being unable to because of traffic of some kind? I know it's illogical, but in the scene where they were both staring at each other while the bikes were zipping in between them, I was mentally yelling at him to go to her anyway.

He's totally going to walk into oncoming traffic for her, isn't he? That'll be when he gets hit.

Required fields are marked *

Me too! I totally wanted him to try and run through the biker parade, lol.

BUT NO. He'll most definitely pick a time when there's cars, not bikes, to cross traffic to get to her! Because, logic. It's the only way to prove true love.

It's interesting because Oh Hae-young has such a strong belief in her inability to die that she crosses traffic without so much as a thought, but, for Do-kyung, it's going to be completely different in consideration of the visions he gets.

Callie,

I'd noticed that recurring theme of DK being unable to reach OHY because of traffic in the street.

The first two times she was drunk as a skunk, and he was sober. The first time, she ventured into traffic and retrieved his wallet when he was unable to, but he'd only seen her in a premonition and not yet met her in real life. The second time he went to great lengths to save her... but she made it across on her own (not counting her prematurely-retired guardian angels). She doesn't need rescuing by someone else, but has to rescue herself.

The third time, it was separation by bicyclists on the promenade along the Han. That is a great scene with the river in the background. The bridge gives me hope that he will someday make it across to her. But in the mean time, he has Many Rivers To Cross.

Does anyone think that Do Kyung really has mental/ physicological problems? And I think the source of his mental problem is the mistake that he did before. Because he suddenly got his deja vu after he was involved for messing Oh Hae young's wedding and Han Tae Jin's business.

My theory, all this deja vu stuff comes from his deep regrets from what he has done. The guy was originally very good boy. He's taking resposibility of family and work. He's perfectionist. So, usually the person who used to be so perfect, when they involve in 'huge mistake', they usually got broken very hard. Perhaps, this make him unstable emotionally and start halucination. He started to think the worst things that would happen and unfortunately most of them were happen.

I think, his deja vu will be gone after he confess to Oh Hae Young what he did to Han Tae Jin.

I like Park Do Kyung's character the most because he's so unpredictable.

Looking forward swoony scenes next week.

The OST is great, but they committed what I consider to be a cardinal sin with it in this episode: They played the OTP's love song (Ben's Like a Dream) during the first scene with DK and... the other HY. (Poor our HY-- even her BGM is given to her nemesis, lol.)

A good romantic song can elicit the kind of emotion that conditions us to believe in, and eventually swoon for, the ONE True Pairing. It should never be replayed in a scene with a second lead. It's ironic for there to be such a no-no in a drama that deals with soundtrack perfectionism.

Yeah, the more I think about it, the more I'm really coming around to the extension. This will probably allow the writer and director to slow their pace a bit and take more time building things up. I do definitely think their fast pace so far indicates to me that they really have somewhere they want to go in this story, which makes me feel good. So while I do wonder why they are launching us into these conflicts so quickly, I'm definitely interested in what it means for the story going forward.

RY,

I've been keeping an eye on team leader Sung-Jin since before the company party. I think he genuinely likes and is interested in her, and may be a better match than the other guys, third-tier-wise, OTP be darned.

I like how he went to bat for her when Soo-Kyung gave him grief about her job performance. And that he regrets not having done so sooner. OHY is such a good team player that she doesn't blow her own horn. Alas, it's not the best strategy in the working world.

It seems to me that OHY would be better off working somewhere else. She might have to open an eatery where she can follow her own food philosophy and serve unpretentious down-home cooking. Consider how everyone went bonkers over her lunch boxes. She cooks with heart. And that's something you can't franchise.

If she wanted to get on Soo-Kyung's good side trend-wise, she'll have to work a lot of kale and quinoa into the menu... or are they passe already? ;-)

I was thoroughly annoyed by Dokyung this episode (which I thought wouldn't ever be possible considering I'm an Eric-ultimate-biased-membership-card-carrying-SHCJ), to the point I wanted to strangle him and shouted 'This is not the way to apologize to someone you wronged by mistake!!' to his face. I mean who in the right mind crashed their car to other's just to ask to be punched and punch once in return? Then again, Dokyung's mental state looks pretty dire so...

I found Lollypip's comment about him actually being angry at himself very interesting. Because while what Taejin said to our Haeyoung was hurtful ('I hate the way you eat'? To someone else it could potentially lead to eating disorders... But then again it looks like our Haeyoung is already binge-eating), it wasn't as if Dokyung have only said flowery things. I found his dig on her parents was particularly stupid and unnecessary.

Our Haeyoung parents to me is the highlight of this episode, I actually laughed outloud at the karaoke-slash-crying scene. I love how supportive they are to our Haeyoung although it hurts to see Mama Oh crying in remorse about how she treated her in the beginning. Seeing how much love there is in this family, I can clearly see why other Haeyoung is terribly jealous of our Haeyoung.

And then there was the kiss... The perfect cliffhanger to leave us wanting more. It looked like our Haeyoung was furious and I wonder if that would be because she found out Dokyung's involvement that led to her marriage cancellation? I can't wait for next Monday already!

This is an interesting episode, because I think there's been a switch. Though both HY and DK have been heartbroken the whole time, I considered that DK was on a (very, very slow) road toward recovery, while HY was still on her downward slope.

Now, she's hit rock bottom and is on her way up. The change between wishing every other woman on earth was dead, to wishing in this episode that everyone who doesn't love her was dead, is, I think, an upward one. I think the latter has more self-love in it. (Plus, she had that cheeky trick with the package last episode.)

DK, however, is unravelling. Where HY has done very little wrong, DK has everything to reproach himself with, and yes, I agree that the person he's truly mad at is himself, not only for the things he said, but for being the reason that Tae-jin did the things he did, so he can't even feel righteous about getting mad at him.

All in all, something needs to give for DK, so that he can get better and stop being mean to HY, so she can get better.

Firstly, Our Hae Young's parents losing their voices from the noraebang scene was just ADORABLE.

Secondly, has anyone noticed that the increasing instability of of Do Kyung's mental state has correlated with frequency and vividness of his visions? I mean he's not just seeing or hearing events anymore. He's FEELING them.

I'm really, really worried for him. Next week's preview with him in tears, talking to presumably his psychiatrist, asking "Why are you looking at me like that?"

Whether it's a brain tumor or coma or time slip, I need to know the source of his premonitions NOW.

When OHY's parents lost their voices! That was a hilarious touch :D I love that they spend around $70 bucks just singing all night with their daughter. Side note: I want to be able to live somewhere where you can walk safely on nice river-side paths at night tooooo~

I think that since he doesn't see anything from the car crash premonition it is definitely more about him than just our OHY, it is worrisome because even as frustrating as he was in ep 8 I don't want him to get in a terrible accident. I have a feeling they all stem from inner-turmoil due to his mom, other OHY and finally what he did to our OHY. He's kinda unpredictable right now, but that gives his character room to develop, I hope. There's more to him than the stoic sensitive guy cover and it would be interesting to see that other side. Still...dude you just smashed the car of the guy you wronged... If I was Taejin I'd be so confused and just as pissed. I hope we get to learn more about who TJ is too, the one scene we got of them together was really sweet and it seemed like they truly loved each other. Plus, he doesn't seem like a lunatic, he just wants to truth to why PDK targeted him. If we follow common dramaland developments, Taejin will somehow end up with other OHY, but I'm not gonna think about that <_<

ON another note, I actually believe other OHY's intentions because she doesn't seem so conniving as to do that, I see it as genuine character growth (which is good! I'm tired of 2nd female leads being either really evil or colorlessly sweet and bland *coffee prince cough cough*) I still have hope these two OHYs can resolve their differences and understand that really all the drama between them wasn't directly either of their faults, it was the people around them that so forcefully compared them all the time. I would like to see these two women flip the system and be real friends to each other because I could really see it. I think other OHY could benefit from having such an honest, no sugar-coating friend like our OHY and they would get along really well if others didn't mess it up with comparisons. Girl friendship all the way!

The writing so far and character are soooooo good, I hope they continue to develop all these characters and connections. Soo Kyung and Jin Sung definitely slept together huh? Bless our comic relief couple, they are here guys! Those spoilers got me good. I'm so ready for monday and no subs.

Will the truth be revealed to all in the next 2 episodes? I sure hope so, but then what else will fill the next 8 eps afterwards? WHAT MORE DRAMA COULD THERE BE? Our main characters are at their breaking points already. I agree that really both of them need some personal time, after the truths have all been said of course, to then come back and work things out, because they are our otp :) and a really good one too.

I could write a 5 page essay on this drama and I WOULD, but there is a character limit~ Bless you if you actually read all...

I completely agree with all you wrote about the other OHY! I feel like so many viewers are used to bitchy, insincere second leads so they often read the other OHY's behavior in the worst possible light. I find it interesting because the writer seems to be taking very particular steps in building a kind, but flawed second lead. Especially this episode, having her admit that she doesn't have the right to ask for a second chance. I really do think that she wants closure for a relationship that meant a lot to her. Of course, if PDK were to realize that he wanted to try again with her, then I'm sure she would be grateful and happy. This doesn't make her horrible, it makes her human & realistic.

I also really want the OHYs to come together and realize they could be friends. I do think that Do-kyung complicates matters, but the drama focuses so much on how the OHYs' past together has affected them that I think it would be a shame not to explore them setting aside their differences. I, at the very least, want our Hae-young to have a moment when she realizes that the Oh Hae-young she was so envious of had plenty of reasons to be envious of her as well. I think this is important because realizing it could allow her to let go of a lot of the resentment she's held onto all this time.

This is why, even though I love our HY for being assertive about her own needs and rejecting the drink with the other HY, I hope she accepts at some point.

Hi, jvang and Chandler,

Good points about the differing treatment of OHY and NOHY by third parties as the true source of the friction between them. I don't expect them to become best buddies, but surely they could truly respect each other -- and commiserate about the slings and arrows of outrageous fortune foisted upon them by inconsiderate third parties.

In order for that to happen, NOHY is going to have to ditch the Miss Perfect act and admit to OHY the down side of being admired for a socially-prized exterior -- exactly as she told DK in her email. She'll also have to fess up to OHY that she envies her for her loving, supportive parents. She'll have to grow a backbone, too, and learn to deal with rejection the way OHY has had to.

OHY will have to learn how to count her blessings and quit trying to dance to everyone else's tune. She needs to put herself on her own map, where her originality, creativity, and passion can shine -- and start setting trends instead of half-heartedly attempting to follow them. She also has to take better care of herself and stop drinking to excess.

Both of them will have to conquer their inferiority complexes. Another thing both of them need to do is cultivate compassion and self-acceptance, and cut themselves some slack. As in the scene in SUNNY when grownup Na-Mi comforts her adolescent self whose heart has just been broken, they need to celebrate what their younger selves managed to accomplish, which is probably much more than they ever gave themselves credit for. They need to acknowledge their inner children for being survivors, and extend that appreciation to their adult selves. As they replenish their own spirits, they can bless others with compassion, too...

About that drink: OHY should be the one to invite NOHY -- in her own time, and of her own volition.

It would be lovely if they both can make peace with the past to the point that they can laugh over its absurdity. I hope that they come to recognize that were it not for those early challenges, they would never have become the decent and honorable women they are today -- and that they wouldn't change a thing, even if it were possible.

I'm in two minds about this show. On the one hand, it's a super premise, well acted, has a lot of heart, is filled with interesting characters that make us care and has a compelling story to tell. I'd be happy to rave about it in a happy, carefree way.

But after watching Ep 7 and 8, a repeated idea verbalised by Do Kyung and by Hoon separately have got me thinking conspiracy theory thoughts LOL! At least twice verbally, an analogy is made between women and dogs. Or more precisely, 'women-in-relationship-with-men' with the way dogs behave. I was reminded of how my own dog used to greet me... ran and jumped, tail wagging, all happy and excited to see me.

With this thought in mind and looking at how women are depicted:
- The most blatant reference was when Hoon tells his friend that An Na is like a dog who jumps on him, licks him and rubs herself on him. Her hair is also styled like a dog's floppy ears. And yeah, she does go overboard in how she greets Hoon.

- Our OHY, herself, when challenged, also ran and threw herself at Do Kyung.

- Do Kyung in the recording says his first OHY was insecure like an abandoned pup and so he could not break up with her.

- Maybe then I started reading too much into this analogy and I started thinking that even Soo Kyung getting plastered every night, over a man, with her hair all over her face, looked like a breed of dog, the Komondor. It is apt that the Komondor is a livestock-guardian, strong and true... like feisty Soo Kyung? In her flashbacks with her guy, she is also all over him physically.

While we are all raving about this show, are we, unbeknown to us, also applauding an insidious, hidden message that it's funny and OK for women to be thought of as faithful pet dogs, happy to throw themselves at their men (masters?) with abandonment? Or the thought that, men like the chaebol whom Do Kyung's mother is chasing after, just need to give women some hand outs and attention to make them happy, which keeps them on a leash? Is there a light-hearted or not so light-hearted fun being made of women? And by women loving this show are we inadvertently slapping ourselves in the face? ;)

Required fields are marked *

Very deep thoughts indeed, that would be quite insidious, I got the chills to be honest, haha! But I think they show the chaebol guy is definitely not in a positive light, nor is PDK's mom either. The love-struck, heartbroken female character troupe is kinda being dragged out in this one, but I'd have to say that our OHY and even other OHY are somewhat slowly recovering from that. That's why I liked that our OHY called PDK out on his actions, obviously he cares, but he's too emotionally impaired to admit it and she's not gonna take is half-assed answer anymore. An-na is sort of the "my sassy girl" fickle character, but even she isn't about doing whatever her boyfriend wants. Soo kyung even is very open about her heartbreak or at least with her drinking and I'm sure everyone can guys already why, even if they didn't speak french like JinSung (what a twist! I guess he did know she needed to take a #2 in that other ep so...)

So really, what if this drama is taking step towards showing that women characters too can love strongly and openly and be reckless for love like so many male characters usually are. As of right now, we see PDK being the chaser and doing irrational things things like rear-ending a guys car. We also saw our OHY throw a rock through PDK's window! I'd like to think the writers are trying to allow both male and female main characters the chance to be on level footing, development-wise (that's just my hope tho :)

Plus! Both dog comments weren't very positive at all, Hoon is definitely carefree but foolishly in puppy-love and PDK's comment was devastatingly hurtful to other OHY, pity doesn't equal love, tho PDK keeps mistaking love/care for pity (a result of his childhood and family? MOM?) being called a pitiful puppy by the one you thought was your soulmate probably stings a lot!

I actually think there are many strong female characters here, Mama Oh included! I hope they get to shine on their own too tho, not only when connected to the male characters as possible love interests, so I get what your saying!

Thanks for thinking it through 'with' me @ jvang.

I do like that most of the time the women are shown to be able to think for themselves and are not enslaved, which was why I did a double take when the dog analogy came up more than once. Which got me wondering if we were being lured into liking this show, thinking how great it is for giving us strong women... only to have the rug pulled out from under us somewhere along the line.

But that's just my wild guess and conspiracy theory. I'm waiting for more episodes to know if the analogy disappears or re-emerges or if another analogy is used or if there is really no conspiracy at all!!! :)

What is the connotation of "dog love"? The ideal is an intense loyal love that is enthusiastically expressed. It also seems to be a lopsided love, a dependent relationship on the part of the dog. There is a warm wash of happy satisfaction in being the one loved more in a relationship, but the flip side is burden of trying to reciprocate enough to make the dog lover happy and feeling resentful of the neediness.

@ Kbas

That's true about 'dog love' and the dependent relationship ...

Dogs though are able to give endlessly without counting the cost and not demanding much in return. Even when badly treated, they generally still remain faithful to their beloved master. (Of course there are also dogs who are so badly treated they do turn on their owners out of the need for survival). Generally also, the ability to have 'dog love' equates with a degree of happiness in relationship, because it is self-effacing. Others have said... isn't that much how 'drama-love' is depicted?

Taken in a positive light... is it not rather that human love can take a leaf or two from how dogs love. Are not people so much more demanding, calculating and cynical even when 'in love'. Isn't true love more self-sacrificing and others-centred, like drama-love or dog-love after all?

If there is really meant to be an analogy of romantic love with the 'dog love', it will be interesting to see who the 'dogs' end up to be. And see if it is actually a positive thing (which I expect!) ... so no face slapping required!!! :)

Haha, wow. This comment, GB!

"The most blatant reference was when Hoon tells his friend that An Na is like a dog who jumps on him, licks him and rubs herself on him."

- I think you may be missing a very important distinction here with this scene. Hoon may have been raving that he found himself a puppy in that initial scene with his friend, but what happened as the episode went on? He met with An Na again who clearly showed that she was the one keeping HIM on leash (i.e. calling the shots in the relationship). I think the important thing with this drama is that you have to pay attention to every little thing.

The women characters in this drama are awesome so I definitely don't think I'm slapping myself in the face by loving it :)

Thanks @ Chandler, that's a relief! LOL!

I just wanted to throw this thought out there and see what others felt. I do like the fact (and is this also the case in real life... I kinda think it could be in some cases!) that while one partner thinks he/she has the upper hand, they have actually given over autonomy to the other without realising it!!! It's such a joke, and not overt.

I'm just looking for patterns here and there (for fun) and a show that's nuanced enough to enable hidden gems to emerge is such a joy! :D

@Growingbeautifully,

In FAITH, there was a theme of dogged loyalty that appeared in a couple of scenes with Choi Young and his information brokers. They were not happy to be indirectly supporting the king, in part because of how the general's old outfit, the Red Moon Army, had been abused by the previous monarch. Choi received a lot of guff for being so loyal and risking his life for a country in the clutches of traitorous aristocrats. His colleagues told him that he was like a dog that, after being beaten, returns to its master when called -- even when it is headed to the butcher. Is this indiscriminate loyalty?

I don't think that loyalty is what Hoon and DK were thinking of when it comes to the dog-like traits they ascribed to women. I think they were focusing on the joyous energy of playful puppies, and confusing people-pleasing behavior among humans (I'm looking at you, NOHY!) with the bonding of pack animals.

Wild canids in general are social animals that live in packs. Domesticated dogs live in packs when they go feral -- or even just run around loose. (Where I grew up, packs of domestic dogs allowed off leash near farms would run down deer, then go home for supper.) What many owners of dogs with "problem" behaviors fail to understand is that they themselves are their canine associate's pack -- and when deprived of the presence of the pack and the alpha that leads it, separation anxiety sets in.

OHY has been an outsider all her life and doesn't need to belong to a pack. NOHY is a more social animal. AnNa is young, energetic and cute -- but she knows what she wants from her male companions and puts them through obedience training -- and they don't even know it! If she wanted to, she could be a bi*tch on wheels -- but she doesn't have to, because she carefully housebreaks them.

As for OHY jumping into DK's arms, the first time was on a dare, and the second time was to bust NOHY's chops. It wasn't because she was deliriously thrilled to see him. She was using him.

These guys are barking up the wrong tree. The joke's on them.

PS -- Did anyone notice that NOHY said to DK:

"Your scent, from a moment ago, made me choke up."

Hmmm, nothing like a nice whiff of pheromones. ;-)

I love our OHY parents, they're simply the best ㅠ_ㅠ

PDK falls into our OHY's charm. Her bluntly honest about everything. She speaks from the heart. She cried, she laughed, she screamed and she even throw stone into PDK's window to describe her inner thought. <3 <3~

But this guy is kinda funny. He rejected our OHY but he always worrying about her ㅋㅋㅋ What an innocent PDK ㅋㅋㅋ just like Jin Sang said, he doesn't know woman ㅋㅋㅋ

In PDK's vision he's only seeing our Oh Haeyoung. Why...? @_@ Is it her the one who make him meet accident? IF.. Just other speculations said PDK will run into car accident.

*Sigh* Where is the justice??? How comes they ask us to wait for a week to see PDK & our OHY "wall kiss" ㅠㅠㅠㅠㅠ

Thank you the reacps LollyPip-nim ♥

Thanks LollyPip for the recap :)
I'm starting to feel worried too about Do Kyung's premonition, especially those car crash sound. Do Kyung said that it was a premonition about him, not something that would happen to Hae Young, he himself even felt the pain. And I couldn't forget Our Hae Young's words about : "I wish people who don't love me would all die".

What if Tae Jin find out about Do Kyung's wrong-doing and he do something bad to Do Kyung? I really wish my guess won't be true, that would be such a cliche plot story..
Do Kyung seemed perfectly healthy in the next episode teaser though, so he'll be just fine. He should be fine ! (crossing fingers!)

And I have been wandering about this matter for a while now. If our Hae Young married Han Tae Jin, her name will become Han Hae Young (it's not really a good name, imo). But if Hae Young married Park Do Kyung, then she will be Park Hae Young (and I get 'Signal' feelings all over again XD).

Yeah, in SKorea, after getting married women still use their family sirname unlike Japanese or Chinese women where they usually use their spouse family name as sir name...

Dokyung is such an ironic character.
It's obvious he cares for our Hae young, in the most reluctant of senses and driven initially by the guilt of being the cause of hurt for our Hae young.
I think that care has allowed for a gradual growth in their relationship and a closeness built on understanding and empathy. I don't know how far I would go to call that love necessarily, on the basis of the most generic of definitions of love.
He cares for her, but I wouldn't call it love.
He doesn't, or at least Eric doesn't, make the character incredibly relatable though. So much of what we do get to see is our Hae young.
Dokyung sure is ballsy to confront Taejin, and it's just so ironic how as the cause of Hae young's pain he also almost self righteously confronts and antagonises Taejin because of the pain he sees Hae young in - which is his own fault (facilitated by Sang jin).
But I guess that in some ways is a reflection of his care for our Hae young. At some point, it's gonna have to be resolved - all of these individual issues: Dokyung and other Hae young, our Hae young and Taejin. It's like, there are so many lose ends right now and misunderstandings.
I'll be honest, I don't find the secondary characters as riveting to the main story line. But as far as secondary characters go they do their part, do have their own stories and personalities which aren't one-dimensional and as nuanced (less so for a few side characters) as our main characters - just less screen time for their stories. But I think they've done a good job of making it all feel cohesive in this drama world, and in creating a context of relationships for the stories to unfold in a real sense.
I do love our Hae young. I also like other Hae Young.
Our Hae young.. I find them both interesting. I don't think either of them are actually /that/ likeable. Relatable yes, but I think I like them because they do feel genuine, and aren't describable necessarily in a one liner character description. It's not about going overboard and creating broad personality traits in generating almost caracitures, but more about generating characters whose motives, actions and words feel genuine and naturally derived. I think more dramas should have this kind of approach to writing characters. Gotta say though, the female characters in this are much more interesting than the male characters in this one. From our Hae young, to the other Hae young, to Sookyung. There's restraint, there's heart, there's an authenticity to all three of these characters and it's enticing.
I can understand the complex our Hae young has over the other Hae young, and overall it's just a really melancholy situation for all.

I get that when we are in the heat of emotions we probably don't stop to think. And I agree that TaeJin's words were unecessarily harsh BUT he said it were it would bite the most knowing HaeYoung's personality/how she reacts.

I know Do Kyung got mad because of his feelings for Hae Young and he can't see things the way we do BUT it just came off as so unnecessarily self righteous and considering the frustrating actions he did the past 2 episodes it made me extremely frustrated with him.

Honestly, considering the fact that Tae Jin DOESN'T know why Do Kyung ruined his marriage AND business he was pretty gracious with Do Kyung by just giving him 3 punches + stopping it at that even when DK continued rambling on with the "how could you do this" and DK admitting he destroyed his business by accident but crashed his car on purpose. Tae Jin seems like a dude that's more forward looking. I GET what the scene is about and I feel like the show does want to explore this but while I suppose this strikes good new for our OTP it made me frustrated with him as a person for how he deals with things. And at the end of the day admitting casually he ruined someone by accident but crashed his car on purpose isn't a really responsible way to admit responsibility.

Honestly, considering how face conscious and also how irresponsible going to jail is especially in a country like Korea, I don't really blame TJ for hiding the facts because he even hid it from his mom. But well, this sure ruined HY/Tae Jin.

I loved how the relationship was handled in ILCCD and props to the writer for giving both TaeJin and Not Hae Young depth, but ngl, certain aspects of the show and the characters still frustrate/annoy me but I think the show will still be worth watching to the end as long as DK resolves his thing with Tae Jin.

Although to be honest, i'm not saying that pretending he went traipsing in Nepal/India is something that's really "responsible" either, it's some sort of typical kdrama warped responsibility.

Am I the only one who replayed the last few seconds of this episode over and over again????? That premonition of their kiss looks so steamy and passionate, like the dam of pent-up emotions finally broke. And anyone noticed the last ending screenshot of the ep which showed Seo Hyun Jin's arms wrapped around Eric's neck????

This episode is so freaking intense! I hate seeing PDK go crazy but I love it too. His quiet ways makes him more challenging and I feel like I'm oh hae young while watching this drama. It's driving me nuts. I want PDK and main oh hae young to end up together but I can't imagine it now with how things are rolling. Too complicated. I don't know how the writer will redeem PDK in this drama. It's a bit muddy yet I know there will be resolutions at some point. I just feel so obsessed with this show right now. I enjoyed DOTS and CITT but not as much as this one. I hope it continues to tug our emotions and then make us all smile in the end and survive the misery of waiting for that one perfect ending. To the writer/s of this drama...please DO NOT DISAPPOINT. I am so emotionally invested right now with this drama.

This drama is so much deeper than I originally thought.

Seo Hyun Jin is such a gem as ordinary Oh Hae Young.

Her chemistry with Eric is off the chart! And she gel so well with veterans who are acting as her parents.

Glad I am watching such an awesome drama.

Ugh, what a bout of exhausting episodes! And this is only with half the truth came out. Am crossing fingers that next week the truth about Tae Jin will be revealed. Thank God there is Cool Kiz on the Block on wed night, so at least can watch non-angsty Tae Jin.
Start having doubt that this is a rom-com, why is the premonition of doom so prevalent? After worrying for half the drama about what Do Kyung did, now have to worry about what will crash to Do Kyung T_T Feels a bit like watching thriller, which is so not my genre, but to stop watching is not an option now... dammit, shud've started when it is completed T_T
Eric as Do Kyung really brings intense to another level, how can a guy with so little words give me so much feels..?

This drama's ambiguous genre has left me scratching my head. I know it had a lot of crying since episode 1, but I convinced myself this is a rom-com. Now I dont know anymore. Not that I am complaining, it just I am not prepared with all the crying and heartbreaking moments.

I am too invested to stop now. Whatever the directions this drama go, I am hoping it will be satisfying (but please no makjang!)

I mean how can there be existent parents who are that all out supportive?. I envy them.

I think Do Kyung will be in an accident together with Our Oh Hae Young in the future. He might fall into a coma that's why his memories are now shattered and his future memories are mixed-up with his present ones.

Loving this drama.
Haven't looked forward to a drama in a very long time. Eagerly waiting for next week.

Both leads are doing a great job portraying their characters.

I thought it was interesting that the moment OHY "wishes to herself that everyone who doesn’t love her would just die." The next scene is of DY hearing the crashing sound and clutching his head in agony.

"pitying people you love as a matter of course is not normal"

Isn't it normal to pity the ones we love because we can empathize more with their suffering than anyone else's? I don't get what's wrong with confusing it with love when it is love that preconditions it.

"Do-Kyung needs help"

Aside from his visions, which I believe is mainly supernatural than psychological, I think he has anger
management issues. His quietness seems to make up for the violence he can inflict on others, which is dangerous really.

on another note, I really like the idea that Soo-Kyung speaks a different language so that no one understands her suffering. it just adds to the many levels of "alienation" she is experiencing. nice touch.

One of well written drama. The two lead characters, Oh Hae Young and Park Do Kyung is developing well. It's like moving version of a romance novel. Unpredictable. Everyone just guessing and guessing but turns to so unexpected moments.

I like it. It has balance between melo and silly moments.
