Ok, so I finally watched Signal, and my response was . . . meh. The acting and directing are good, the writing is decent, but it didn't knock my socks off. I felt that the team was pushing so hard for intense emotions that it actually left me cold. The plot holes started to irritate me towards the end as well. It's not a bad show, but it never really connected with me. On the plus side though, the opening music is great and is now permanently lodged in my brain.

The one that particularly drove me nuts was how anyone knew to go to the abandoned psych hospital in the first place. In the first episode the present days folks learn about it from the past, but we later find out that the past folks learned about it from the present. Huh? Did I miss the appearance of the magic tip fairy?

Hey guys, a random question popped up in my mind today.

What rom coms do you usually recommend to new kdrama watchers? The ones that get them highly addicted to kdramas.

Since, I don't really prefer to watch rom coms, I do not recommend them to other people but I have noticed that people usually don't get addicted to other genres as easily as korean rom coms. For e.g. I recommended Misaeng, which i consider the best show, however I could not get 2 people addicted to it. I believe Misaeng is a show to watch when you are over all the fluff in kdramas to get a taste of real life.

This just happen to me recently, I reccomended Signal to my friend, like 2 week before it ends and it maybe her 2nd kdrama but he never actually intend to watch the 1st one, he said it's okay, he likes it and stop around ep 5/6,
I give him Missing Noir after and he said he likes it, even watched I remember you by himself. When I asked why, he said Signal still the best out of 3 but he didn't feel the need to finished it.

Unfortunately, I recommended Answer Me 1997 to two friends, and couldn't get them hooked with it.. I suppose these would be better shows to bait first-timers with:

- You from Another Star
- Any of the four season series: Winter Sonata, Autumn Love (?), Spring/Summer Scent, whatever..
- Coffee Prince

Well, not new to dramaland..but in desperate search for some good dramas - any genre would do.. but not in state of mind to go for heavy tear jerkers..

Any language drama will do... most of the cited ones and recent ones I have seen.. (japanese not so much..bu tplz plz plz suggest the ones without ott acting)

Good morning beanies.
I just finished my latest toon, my alternate ending for "Cheese in the Trap." I don't know how it will be received. (It's not published yet or I'd insert the link.)
I like the actor who played Hoo Jung. But because of my personal experience with a stalker, I couldn't ship his character with Hong Seol. But I didn't want In Ho to wind up with her either. Cheese turned out to be so moldy, that I was just disgusted at the end and wanted all the characters to go into therapy.
I think it was one of the K-Dramas I was most disappointed in.
I am seriously looking forward to "Lovely Knights." Am I crazy? Does it have a chance to be good?
The Great Queen Duckie is still my favorite Sageuk. I loved the Hwarang boys. Please upcoming Hwarang be good. Please?

It's Friday again!

In an attempt to recover from my SFD withdrawals, I have finally picked up Signal again, together with DOTS. Like what many people said, DOTS is something you watch with your brain switched off - it's decently entertaining but not something I'll rewatch again. I think a problem with DOTS is I don't know whether it's trying to be a fluffy rom-com, or actually serious. Episode 13 to episode 14 was such a great jump in tone.

Anyway, Signal is something that I'm enjoying tremendously, even if it does make me confused sometimes. And very emotionally drained. In a good way. Am I making sense? The scene of Jae-han/Jo Jin-woong crying alone in the cinema was soooo heart-wrenching. I wish it wasn't so depressing though. I just finished episode 5, and it seems so far that the attempts to solve cases/change the past don't quite lead to good outcomes. Rooting for the cold case squad and Jae-han, and please don't let me watch another scene with a devastated Jo Jin-woong. )':

Required fields are marked *

You're right about DotS: it's fluffy and requires absolutely no brain power. Not a drama I'll be watching again, but entertaining enough.

And I totally understand about Signal being emotionally draining! I marathoned the show in three days and was a complete emotional wreck throughout and for days after. I cried, I gaped, I was on the edge of my seat, I was squirming in horror at being helpless and knowing a bad thing was inevitably going to happen, despite the characters desperately trying to keep it from happening. It's an amazing show, though, and I've recently forced my mom to watch it. She's enjoying it, but is definitely confused and thinking way too hard about the magical walkie-talkie. ;)

Signal is one of the few dramas that I'm glad I didn't marathon. 2 episodes per week is seriously enough. I would've lost my eyes from crying if I marathoned it.

So true. I feel that I need a lot of time to recover from it because it's so intense and sad. I saw comments about Lee Je-hoon being 'too intense' or 'theatrical', but I thought he portrayed the emotions very well. I bet the actors themselves were pretty worn out from Signal too.

Concerning J-Dramas, Kazoku Game is a good one. I haven't watched very many Korean psychological thrillers, if any at all... the closest would be Liar Game, does that count? Which is my 2nd favorite K-Drama of all time.

0
reply

Required fields are marked *

It's more of a mystery than a thriller (although it is very tense at times), but N no Tame Ni (jdrama) is excellent and really worth watching imo.

You also might like Mawang/The Devil, although I wouldn't necessarily classify it as a thriller, it's a revenge drama with a psychological focus?

The Devil (Mawang) and Liar Game (Korean) are both fabulous, but very different in feel (The Devil is more serious, while Liar Game is more fun). For J-dramas, you might want to try A Million Stars Falling from the Sky.

0
reply

Required fields are marked *

Perhaps Resurrection? I'd say it's probably less of a thriller than Mawang, but it's a great revenge drama that gets into psychological stuff.

If you're okay with movies, Mother is a great option. A lot of Park Chan-wook films should fit too--Sympathy for Lady Vengeance, Oldboy, etc. Memories of Murder isn't quite what you're looking for, but it has very psychological undertones (it's not about catching the killer, it's about what the case does to a bunch of small town cops and the community they're protecting/terrorizing).

I love Mother too. Yes Park Chan Wook is the master. That goes for Bong Joon-Ho too. The top director/writer/producer in Korea's film industry.

Hi Everyone! ....... I hope you are all doing well today.

Watched this week:

Six Flying Dragons - I have 4 eps left to watch!

Descended From The Sun - I keep watching for those little moments ... that kind of do work.

Mrs. Cop 2 - After skipping an episode, I decided to tune in again to see how things are going. That little situation that came up with Kim Bum's character and his dad years ago----uh oh!

Mr. Selfridge - No doubt, he's headed for trouble.

Luther - A good friend of mine recommended this, so I decided to check it out. Yikes! It certainly has quite the repertoire of depraved criminals. It's some unsettling, intense stuff.

That's all for now. ....... Everyone take care and have a great Friday!

Happy weekend
I rewatched My Eccentric Daughter in Law and the main couple is really fun, nice male lead in dramaland is a goal. I still hate all the in law, if I marry their children, I'll move overseas for a better live.
I also rewatc Pasta and I still like it. I shocked that my view on the series didn't change. Chef is someone I'd like to meet only at work or either outside, I can't deal both ways. He is a perfectionist shouter at kitchen but I don't know why he is nice to things outside kitchen/work place. I think the relationship can work mostly because Gong Hyo Jin's character is an M!! She likes getting yelled when she is wrong or not and take that as "chef noticed me". She is persistant on pursuing him and only her can deal with him.

I saw that some people talked abput DoTS and western series format. Which is quite similar esp in character, many western series star with perfect lead character like yoo shi jin, a capable person on their field. The blacklist, elementary, sherlock, hannibal, jessica jones, forever, major crimes and many more. Then they has one another capable character but need to adjust the other one because of circumstances, like kang mo yeon.
It's not that this trope never existed in kdrama, it just kdrama tends to mixed that with the male lead trauma that somehow linked to the heroine childhood, or their parents had some history, birth secret, contract thing, everything seems to be emphasize on FATE.
The plot also cause kdrama doesn't do episodic plot often, Jdrama did a lot, western has that so in kdrama everything seems to always have connection, misunderstanding is needed and that will drive the force for making another problem while in western, it may had connection and misunderstanding but work need to be done and just wait when it comes while the big plot also on litte step preparation.
So with this resemblance, do you think western episodic format will work in kdrama?
I find episodic drama really enjoyable, I still watch Criminal Minds, Supernatural or many western drama and almost all of that emphasize on the character, their journey.
I am sorry if I forget some kdrama that has this trope, maybe my sudden amnesia come out.
*I am really deep into Marriage Contract now, just be happy for all of them, please

About Pasta, I think Chep is very good at separating work and off-work. He would be just as demanding outside the kitchen if they are still perfecting a recipe. Gong Hyo Jin's character can see this clearly so she usually does not take his yelling about cooking too personally. She recognizes her own shortcoming.

oh Chef is the best but his shouting and choice of word is really sharp, that's why I said GHJ character is an M (as in Masochist that J-drama used to, not the real Masochist one) since she can endure it and even can think "he noticed me" with all the yelling and mistake he corrected. That's a hard stuff for heart to handle since his tone just so powerful and torn people who heard it.

I think nothing is really new but I like when they not react like any other drama,

Hello, Beanies!

Page Turner continues to be so funny and entertaining to watch. I could sit down and watch Kim So-hyun and Ji-soo just go at it for hours. So funny. It's too bad that tomorrow is the last episode!

I also finished Shut Up: Flower Boy Band and absolutely loved it. It's so incredibly rare to find a drama with such a satisfying ending. It's funny, at the end of episode 15 and the beginning of episode 16 I was PRAYING for the band to stay together, but then you realize... it was never about the band or the music, it was about the boys, and the open ending ironically gave good closure. They're all doing what they want to do, and that's what's important.

Not watching any more dramas until next month. Final exams are creeping up and organic chemistry is killing me, so I have to buckle down these next few weeks! Eliminate distractions!

Just some thoughts on the shows I've dropped...

Marriage Contract: I like UEE, and the 5th and 6th episodes seemed fine (they were the reasons why I decide to continue), but I got tired of the show after a while. It's not that bad, but I don't have the urge to keep watching week after week.

Come Back Mister: Oh Yeon-seo is great, but that's about it. Rain's character is just annoying though. Also, I have no idea what the two of them want to do actually.

And the main point...

Ms. Temper & Nam Jung-gi: I raved about this in the ratings post, and will rave about it here again. Both Lee Yo-won and Yoon Sang-hyun are fantastic.

The real draw of this drama is the female lead Ok Da-jung, who supposedly has a fiery temper, doesn't bow down to authorities and is extremely principled. She's really competent in her job too. Just a breath of fresh air in K-drama really. I looove her character. And Lee Yo-won just kills the role. She suits it to a T. Maybe it's her model-esque height or perhaps it's her elegant disposition. I don't know. And her motto "an eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth" always gets me. Just awesome.

I'm not too keen on the romance portion though. I see how they are edging towards it bit by bit, but I'm enjoying the show as it is. I think they can do perfectly without it. However, if it happens I hope ODJ is still her feisty self and not have a sudden personality change or anything.

Also, I actually watched Ep 7 live and *minor spoiler* Ok Da-jung finally shows her weak side *minor spoiler*. It's interesting to see how the drama develops from here onward. And I think we're going to get more revelations about her relationships with her ex-husbands (Yeon Jung-hoon is finally entering the fray) as well. Hopefully the show gets better and better.

Any fellow Ms. Temper fans?

I took a wonderful little break from the world this week, out in the countryside where the bugs are thicker but the air clearer. The only downside was no WiFi. So no dramas. But I managed to start Marriage Contract before I left, so that's ok. :) Loving it so far! I basically echo everyone's sentiments about the cuteness of Eun-Sung, the marshmallow Ji-hoon, and Hye-Soo's lovableness.

Looking forward to Entertainer starting later this month, right?

WWII refugees. we had a test last week, the only thing that worries me is most of my steam went on trying to find all the right gadgets from the suitcase I had with me, there was too much stuff in it and couldnt do much talking. Have to learn (from some actor, perhaps?) how to mess with the suitcase and talk simultaneously. I had to play a role too - that was a success I think, because I said I was a guy named Kalev, and at the end of the tour, the kids (well, 10th grade, not kids?) were whispering "I dunno ask Kalev" or "Can you give this to Kalev?", which was hilarious but also shows they accepted the role. It was so and so, it WILL be awesome though, cause it is like a role playing game + investigation, and they can take finger prints from one another and stuff.

Hi!! Drama lovers..

There are so many shows going on, I was lost and re watched your beautiful & coffee prince.... I can't believe I was charmed again by JGS...(my excitement for jackpot increased!!!)

Random thought: I realised simple plots like those were so entertaining back then but after some years (7!!) Dramas with even tighter plot fail to entertain ...?
Answer was simple too ....the same plot and tropes started repeating and some well thought shows (eg:Healer) raised the bar of expectations... starting days were really awesome....(I was discussing with a friend it's her ans)

There are many seguek series coming...getting really excited...

Side note : any underrated j drama recommendations?? (I've watched all the popular ones)....

I can second:

– Tonbi
– 37.5 no Namida
– Soratobou Kouhoshitsu
– Piece (not great acting, but I find it an atypical and intriguing drama)

[some of the others Sancheezy mentions I haven't seen]

I'll add:

–Arifureta Kiseki (I don't think I've ever come across anyone that has seen this)
–Suika (quite old, so I think most people don't know about it)
–Nakuna Hara-chan (not perfect, but I found it really creative in some ways)
–11 Nin mo Iru! (hilarious & has a lot of heart)
–Kaze no Garden (touching family story)
–Smile (2009) (Matsujun in one of his best performances, in drama tackling taboos – but people only talk about his more popular or more iconic dramas [though I do love his Kimi wa Petto too])
–Kingyo Club (simple & low-budget but I think it's a great mini-drama on high school bullying)
–Fuben na Benriya (okay, maybe not underrated... this is fairly recent)

I don't think I've seen the other two. I'm fond of Kaze no Garden because I think it's a really great family story (not afraid to deal with difficult things) and also because it's a drama that just shows how much talent Kamiki Ryunosuke had since a child. He's just got a supporting role, but one that not many actors could do at that age.

0

Ah, actually I did watch Yasashii Jikan & liked that too.

0

Those three dramas are from the same writer too ^^.

I think I knew Arifuru Kiseki, yukie nakama?
Everyday miracle?
I watched it long time ago, I forget the plot T.T

I second your reccomendation but I haven't watch Suika.
I agree that Smile is matsujun best performance,
You make me me remember of 11 no iru and the never ending family discussion, "just flip the table!" Hahaha
I love fuben na benriya for their snow, haha

Yes, Arifureta Kiseki is Ordinary Miracle. Very simple story – two strangers who meet by saving someone from committing suicide and slowly fall in love as they heal from painful wounds they still carry from their past. With an absolutely amazing Kase Ryo (he's such a good and very underrated actor – not by directors fortunately, but by the mainstream viewers. But he strikes me as very humble and quietly living a life away from the limelight, so he's easily missed.).

I stumbled across Suika because of Mikako Ishikawa (she and her sister – very underrated!), it's a lovely, simple slice-of-life, with laughter, warmth and plenty of quirk. The house of women and their comradeship is great, even more so because they are so different. And we get characters of all ages (the professor lady is wonderful)!

I love Matsujun in Kimi wa Petto (that's a perfect example of an actor being "irreplaceable" – he's iconic in that role) but Smile gave me a whole other level of respect for him as an actor.

Fuben na Benriya is Okada Masaki's best role. He's suited to comedy much more so than the heavier stuff he's done.

0

@Alua
Arifura Kiseki has Kase Ryo?? (We know kiseki means miracle right, but upon watch so many kdrama and how popular it is, it feels weird to said it, I said one time and my friend think I am cursing and yes they watch Kdrama)

Matsujun in Kimi wa petto is darn cute, he wants to be spoiled in the house and Iove that so much.

Masaki Okada had things for comedy, he seems well fitted and comfortable, he also play comedy type of role in ST as I remember. He is tall, good looking but funny, he seems to play more of innocence, hard working but easy to manipulate character, the simple minded one but good at it.

0

Yes, Arifureta Kiseki has Kase Ryo (and he really doesn't do a lot of dramas, so....).

I think that's probably how I originally found it as well.

(And mentioning Kase Ryo, I'm going to give a shout-out to SPEC, which I didn't mention before but that's because I think it doesn't fall in the 'underrated' but more in the 'cult drama' category).

I think Masaki Okada actually really has spot-on comedic timing AND he can do physical comedy, which not everyone can. (I'm recalling those scenes he was struggling to get his jeans in the morning after yet another drunken night. LOL.) I can never quite feel the depth of emotion when he plays tormented characters, but when he does comedy like in Fuben na Benriya he cracks me up.

Arifureta Kiseki?
Me, me, me !

I watched this dorama a year ago or two, thanks to your recommendation, alua.
Just stumbled upon it's title, still makes my heart, how can I say it, flutter, peace, butterflies on stomach? So many feelings.

Thank you, dear. Thanks to you I watched many jdoramas and I liked all that I watched. To name a few that I remember : Arifureta Kiseki, Soratobu Kouhoushitsu, Date, and 37.5 no Namida

Thrilled I convinced at least one person to watch Arifureta Kiseki!

Yes, it also makes my heart flutter even when I just think of it! So many feels. In an interview Kase Ryo actually once said if he weren't an actor, he'd want to be a plasterer... which I just love, because I think it tells you that this drama touched him too! (This interview – quote is at the very end: http://www.port-magazine.com/film/his-name-is-ryo/. Of course the interviewer has no clue what he's referring to!)

0

@alua
Thank you for the link, alua.
Hm, such sacrifice and dedication he has to pursue his acting career. I didn't know that his father disowned him. That time I thought, why he became an actor when he came from a "chaebol" father. And now I know.

OMG! Yes, the interviewer would never know what he referred to by "wanting to become a plasterer".
Wow, now I'm itching to rewatch this drama again.
Where did I save it's folder? LOL.

Did you watch his other dramas or movies?
Any recommendation?
That time, i wanted to watch the movies that were mention in this articles, especially Letters of Iwo Jima, but i can't seem to find those anywhere.

-SPEC (the drama, the 2 TV films and the 2 cinema films)
-Bread and Soup and Cat Weather (significant supporting role)
-About Love (this is a 3-part omnibus, he's got a lead role in one – he's very good here)
-Judge!
-Like Someone in Love (major supporting)
-All Around Us
-Antenna (lead)
-Hill of Freedom (lead) – this Hong Sang-soo's film of course

(I have reviewed Like Someone in Love, All Around Us and Hill of Freedom on my blog btw)

Plan on watching as soon as I have time:
-I Just Didn't Do It
-Glasses
-About Her Brother
-Pool
-Gravity's Clowns
-Instant Swamp
-Su-ki-da
-Nobody Knows
-Frog River
-Restless
-Our Little Sister
-Tokyo Rendevouz
-etc!!! because really I want to watch it all...

I think you can't miss SPEC and I think he's pretty well known for his role in I Just Didn't Do It too.

For his international films, Hill of Freedom (Korean), Restless (American) & Like Someone in Love (Abbas Kiarostami making a Japanese film) are all worth exploring.

I need to add this one, I just remember this

SUZUKI SENSEI 2011

Talk about student sexual activity, what means to be a leader, manner, protective sex or not ans set it middle school

While I also really like Suzuki Sensei, I can't really recommend it to just anybody because of how controversial it is and the viewers really need to watch it with open mind. Though, personally I think Suzuki Sensei is a clever show on how it makes point of views about those heavy topics.
It's a manga adaptation from the writer of Gaiji Keisatsu (I really like this too) and Deto.

I think there are more underrated J-dramas, some even aren't subbed yet, but still, it depends on people's taste.

You probably watched Love That Makes You Cry? I just finished it and it IS the kind of love that made ME cry! It made me think of a past. It gave me good vibes nonetheless. There were times that I couldn't figure out if the actor really loves the girl. It was more convincing on her part. Overall, it was a great love story. It made me wonder, if an ideal love is when both have very much in common in personality and ideals.

<There were times that I couldn’t figure out if the actor really loves the girl. It was more convincing on her part.

She has (romantic) feelings for him from pretty early on – that's why she kisses him in ep 3 and also why in ep. 1 she's the one that kind of engages with him (when she runs of, sort of teasing him to follow her etc)

Ren's love is much slower and much more suppressed for a long time. He cares for Oto, but he's tangled up in the relationship with his girlfriend, whom he of course doesn't love though he hasn't realised/admitted that to himself. It's only around ep. 5 that the truth starts to dawn on him (when Ren and Oto both admit to each other that they "suki desu" but equally acknowledge that their relationship can't happen). I don't think Ren's real "loving" Oto happens until she draws him out of his "I have given up on the world" funk – that final scene at the end of ep. 7 when they're in the garden and he looks at her and his eyes linger... I saw that at the moment when he realises that he loves her and that accepts himself having these feelings and allows himself to want her (i.e. pursue her).

<It made me wonder, if an ideal love is when both have very much in common in personality and ideals.

I think not necessarily. In their case yes, because unfortunately other people liked them but still did so in a selfish manner that took advantage of certain character traits in Oto and Ren. With Oto and Ren themselves, they understood each other because they were so alike but also never took advantage of each other because their selflessness was exactly the trait that others exploited.... But they were of course too selfless to exploit each other's selflessness (if that makes sense!) – so they were perfectly matched.

I too saw Ren really started to pursue her at the end of episode 7. Kindness is really attractive indeed.

Makes me wonder about the never ending debate of whether there is a limit to needing something from someone you love. To not be needy and be totally independent, or to have expectations as well.

HELLO EVERYONE!!

Its been a while...

Im currently watching Its Okay That's Love and Page Turner....ive been turned off from KDramas for a while as the repetitive theme of things got a lil too much for me...[as well as american tv season being really good this year + Netflix tv shows and a full time job]...but m trying to ease my way back in.

Page Turner is awesome! I cant wait to see Ji Soo and especially Kim Soo Hyun grow up and be amazing actors in adult drama roles. I really like that the drama shows that things are possible with a lil hard work...I cant wait to see how things end!

IOTL is really nice...the only thing i cant stand is the female lead and all her issues...its like they put all the issues that many women have with men and relationships and put it all in that one chick...which is sorta annoying cause it feels like just as soon as one thing is resolved, another issues pops up not even 5 mins later.

oh and im really happy that someone Viki has found a way to get tVN shows so hopefully i can get back fully on the kdrama train!!

Enjoying a wide variety of k-drama genres which is what I like so here goes:

DOTS: It's a popcorn drama and, yes, it has its flaws but I just kind of turn the brain off and go with it.

Daeback: I usually will have one historical going on and this is the one I've picked up. I am pleasantly surprised. Very good story and whoever cast the bad guy and the king....good job.

Come Back, Mister: I love this drama as it does bittersweet and heartfelt with comedy very well. I know some had some issues with the Young Soo/Rain story line, but if you can get over the hump it comes together very nicely. I think it will honestly end up being a favorite of mine.

Vampire Detective: It's pretty good with potential; good action scenes but only 2 in so we'll see how it goes.

That's it for me so far. As far as what is on the horizon, I'm looking forward to checking out Ji Sung's new drama as well as the one with the gal from KMHM which sounds good as well.

Hi beanies~

Jackpot – Need some serious 17th century DNA testing.

“Pleasure is simply a feeling. It doesn’t teach you anything. We learn the genuine lessons only through pain.” I could post this as a devotional but the citation might be confusing (Vampire Detective, ep 2, kdrama) heh. I am, however, devoted to Lee Joon.

Kpop Star season 5 – I am in love with Ye Eun. Her voice is addictive to the depths of the soul.

Happy Together with the 1N2D cast was entertainment on entertainment.

Speaking of 1N2D, footwashing?

I think Big Bang should enlist all at the same time.

Well, the backstory is intriguing with plenty of details that still have yet to emerge. It's only once a week so the time investment is less than the usual 2 eps per week. On the other hand, the momentum gets halted because of that. Lee Joon has the best vampire eyes even without the added amber glow.

@earthna - I had mixed feelings about Secret Love Affair overall, but Kim Hee Ae is fabulous in it, and I found her character to be far and away the best part of the show. It's rare that a 40-something female protagonist is allowed to be smart, sexy and morally complicated. I also really enjoyed the relationship between her and Yoo Ah In - despite the age gap they generate plenty of heat and are lovely on screen together. The other characters were mostly just unpleasant, but not that hard to tune out.

Thanks! I don't like affairs in a drama but maybe I'll give this one a try. The acting is top notch from the clips I've seen.

The thing about Secret Love Affair is that the story is a lot richer than what the title suggests. It is not about will-they-won't-they or the social scandal, but about the effect of the relationship on the female lead's scale of moral values and her life choices, in other areas besides her marriage. Don't expect a victimised husband either...

On the other hand, the style is similar to Grapevine, minus the dark comedy, so don't watch it when you are sleepy. :)

Hi Beanies! Happy Friday and yay to the weekend! :)

Sadly RL got in the way of my dramas this week, again. Having a hard time with my kiddo who has been deemed "special needs" (ugh I hate this label), which is why this is such a great place to escape and immerse myself in dramas. Even if I can't watch them, I can read about them and live vivaciously through the excitement of fellow Beanies :)

Watched DOTS this week and while SJK is all sorts of wonderful, the plot and realism (or lack thereof) is seriously getting in the way of my enjoyment of it. It could have been so much better if they just made it a BIT more realistic you know, so my brain doesn't short circuit each time something ridiculous happens.

Also just started City Hunter! And it seems pretty good, I'm def continuing as much as time allows. Has Healer-ish vibes which I'm liking, though more dark I think.

Any recommendations for short dramas/movies that are good? I can't always commit to 20 episodes but sometimes just need a dose of crack to keep me going! ;) Non tragic endings are a must though. Happy preferred, but I won't be picky :)

Happy Friday! Hope everyone has good weekend plan. Here I am in this quiet place (because many people are out today), thinking about what to watch tonight (starting with Ms.Temper I assume).
Ms. Temper and Nam Jung-gi which is Eeul(who's Subordinate) against Gap(who's superior) story seems to be getting favorable review. There was a press conference for the show and here are some of interviews. [entertainment today news]

Kim Sun-young(Sunwoo's mom in reply 88) plays Han Young-mi who is a working mom and office co-worker. On the question "what kind of effort she is making to play 'Eeul' character", she said "Rather than doing something, I feel angry and frustrated when I hear about endless number of suborinates' life story from talking with my family and friends which is completely ridiculous. Such thoughts and my life itself is the effort. Since actor/actress is the one who waits to be chosen, I think he/she has very tough Eeul's life in some sense. I play the role with that mindset."

About her role compared to the one in Reply 88, she said "Both characters are similar to my real personality. Sun-woo's mom was cheerful and fun, and I have plenty of those sides. With Ms.Temper, a friend of mine sent me the text message saying my character is just like me so it must be very easy for me to play. It is lucky that I have met similar characters and was able to do well immersed.". About the question how she is doing with other employees in Lovely cosmetics, she said "I am so happy working with my co-workers in Lovely cosmetics. It has been a while since I worked with Yoon Sang-hyun ssi, but I really like him this time and he can't be compared to the last time we worked together. His acting has really improved. I think I will love this family throughout 16 episodes and will do my best to the end, maintaining good relationship."

Son Jong-hak plays the evil director Kim of Gold cosmetics, doing his Gap-jil/Bullying toward Euel. "I think there is no permanent Gap/superior. I am doing Gap-jil, but actually I have other Gap nim, and I become Eeul in front of them. I think that relationship will never disappear in the world, and we should try hard to get rid of that." About him playing Manager Ma in 'Miseang', he said "I think Manager Ma in Miseang and Director Kim in Ms.Temper are different in scale in doing their Gap-jil. In 'Miseang' he, good-hearted, did Gap-jil about business matter and had good intention wishing juniors to do well, but with Director Kim, his petty side is showing clearly. I try to make the character milder. I am thinking the person is so pitiful that at least I should feel affection, and I should embrace him with father-like mind and do the acting like that." About Lee Sung-min, he said, "Lee Sung-min ssi is way too busy to meet. Miseang team meet from time to time, but there has been no talk about the shows specifically. I sometimes see Memory in re-run. It is competing show (on same time slot)...

I am so sorry showing her my pathetic side even from the first meeting. About water throwing scene, I thought if I kept doing it, I would be really sorry, (that time cup was pretty) so I just hold it and splattered the water, and it went all out. It was the first time to get water thrown at me, and it was really refreshing and felt good since beautiful lady like Lee Yo-won ssi did it. I hope she does that often." Lastly he said "I wish I have a family like others in the show."

Im Ha-ryong who plays Nam jung-gi's dad Nam Yong-gap. "I thought I would do some Gap-jil because of my name Yonggap, but I ended up doing Gap-jil only to my son Bong-gi...In other places, I am the one who makes people laugh the most, but here everybody is funny, so I feel lost. Yoon Sang-hyun ssi, Hwang Chan-sung ssi, not only these two sons, but even my grandson is doing ad-lib. I thought I really had to work harder." Lastly about the show he said, "If you look in Euel's point of view, Euel will get new courage, and for Gap maybe just regrets will remain in the end. Hope people stop doing Gap-jil, and my wish (in the show) is since we only have men in my family, I hope we have a woman. I hope woman can join us as soon as possible."

Hwang Chan-sung(2PM) plays Nam Jung-gi's unemployed younger brother. About drama getting popular, he said "Miracle will be if we go to Spain (reward trip JTBC promised) which I am not sure, but please watch to the end. Among Gap, Eul, Byung, Jung (1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th), I think I am 'Jung'." About Memory where his 2PM member Lee Jun-ho plays, he said 'I like Jun-ho very much. We are in same age and he is really good friend, but I didn't watch his drama. It is busy enough watching mine. Still we cheer for each other. We sent a coffee truck to the Memory filming site before broadcast began, and Lee Jun-ho sent us snack track in return. So we are shooting cheering for each other." (I also read PD of Ms.Temper sent a coffee truck to crews of Memory- Lee Hyung-min PD (MTNJG) and Park Chan-hong PD (Memory) are close junior/senior in real life enough that Lee PD calls Park PD hyung.) Lastly he said "I hope the viewers feel healing watching our dramas. Even if you can't exactly agree, I think it can give some satisfying feeling, so I hope many people watch this drama and feel comforted somewhat."

Yoon Sang-hyun plays Nam jung-gi who is comical but sad 'Eeul'. "I showed my confidence at the production press conference, and if you keep watching to ep 16, miracle will happen." About playing Euel character, he said, "When you are in the army, the person who joined first is Gap, and the person who joined later is Euel, so Gap and Euel exist in everywhere. In school, senior and junior are like that. I debuted as the male lead, but I have been tail end of Euel...If I didn't see...

If I didn't see this script, I would've not realized the hardship of Euel. I think more about countless times of Euel's sadness and pain as I get older. I am also Euel to the bone."
About his comical acting he said, "There is a thinking trend that if you try to be funny, you don't get recognition in acting, and you get recognized for your acting if you play serious or strong roles, but I think everyone has own acting area best fitting to them. For me ever since I was young, the movie or drama I enjoyed were comical ones. In cartoon 'Conan', Conan supporting his weight using his toe on the top of plane was really fun. I wondered how that would feel like. Doing this drama, PD-nim told me I am overacting, but that is my normal expression. With this drama as a starter, I wish there are many Korean dramas which express more visible feelings or face expressions. I hope there are more of this kind of genre, and we have Korean Jim Carrey or Jack Black."
About him getting Gap-Jil from Ms.temper and in his workplace, he said "Woman's Gap-jil is more scary. With men, you can have a drink together and lesson that degree. In my life the only person I got Gap-jil from was my mother, so when I think about the first shooting with Lee Yo-won ssi, it was little scary.. LYW always has straight posture, straight expression, no-relaxed side. At first I tried different ways, but didn't think it would work, so I thought "I will just be comfortable." Woman Gap is more uncomfortable and hard to approach. Gap nim in my house is very soft."(meaning bragging about his wife)
About the show Memory, he said,"I think tvn didn't plan right. If they did more cheerful piece since it is spring, we could share (the viewership). I thought our show would reach 10% because it gets more fun and heart-warming as show continues. Currently script is up to ep 10, but every episode has been fun, so I thought by episode 16, maybe ratings could reach 10%. But they say they hope just to pass 3% ratings, and if ratings pass 5%, it is Daebak. But I thought after ep 8, it might pass 5%. I am sorry for Memory, but on this Friday Saturday drama competition, we will win...I don't think I've ever felt this good. I feel this is my life's project, and feel like I can give something to the viewers which makes me feel good shooting." Lastly he said, "I think it is inevitable having the relationship of Gap and Eeul. But if you work hard and give approval on what you are doing, maybe someday you will become more than Eeul. Maybe you can become Gap, and how the society turns out will be depending on how you treat Euel once you become Gap."

Lee Yo-won plays Ms.temper who portrays the fantasy of Euel you don't see in the real life much. "Actually I've never worked in the office, so I don't know well (about office worker), but I try to express sincerely what is in the script. Even though I was not an office worker, Ok Da-jung's behavior or episode was refreshing. In...

Ok Da-jung's behavior or episode was refreshing. In reality I am close to Nam Jung-gi, so during acting I thought "Wow if someone can step in like that I would feel really good." Because that will make your life easier. Actually it is more comfortable living laying low. When I was reading the script, I thought "Is really this kind of woman possible?" which made me feel good. I think this woman is capable so she has confidence that she can make loud voice."
About playing Ok Da-jung character, she said,"I thought Da-jung didn't become a witch because she wanted. She must have her own history before she became like that. Maybe going through many events and hardships, she had to live like a witch to survive. Nam Jung-gi lives in a house in front of hers and works in the same company, and she is a character who really dislikes her humane side being caught by Nam Jung-gi."
About filming, "I usually don't have expression, so keeping Da-jung's no expression was not hard, but team members were so funny, that it was very hard for me not to have any expression by myself. Even if my expression was dry, I had so much laugh that there were tons of NG." About throwing water to/from Son Jong-hak(Director Kim), "Son Jong-hak ssi threw the water so far way that I thought it would be NG, but he did it with full power so it made at the first time. Spewing water out from my mouth was real. I was really pissed off." Lastly she said, "I will shoot my hardest to the end, and hope the viewers have vicarious satisfaction. When I ready such comments, I feel great."

Ok Did you know the writer Kim Eun-sook(DoTS) and Kim Eun-hee(Signal) are good friends? Interesting. They had podcast talking about living as a writer.[OSEN/Koreadaily]
The voice of Kim Eun-hee is like a girl's, and Kim Eun-sook has husky voice, but their tendency is opposite. According to their descriptions, KEH sees the world with the view "The world is not pretty" vs KES sees the world with "World is beautiful." view. Even though their views are opposite, the reason they maintain their good friendship is because they respect each other. They are star writers with different styles, comparison can't be avoided. If you look Kim Eun-sook's shows -Lovers in Paris, Secret garden, Gentleman's diginity, Heirs, Decedents from the sun, etc, you think male lead's cool line stands out even though they might not be used in real life. People accuse/refer those lines as "cheezy".

Kim Eun-sook says she has heard "Learn from Kim Eun-hee", and when she hears it, she is proud of Kim Eun-hee rather than feeling bad. "Eun-hee is getting compliments because of me" and she praised KEH (shows)'s clean dialogues. KES also said those were the lines she actually used to flirt with a man when she was dating. "People seem not to use such cheezy lines when they are dating.. but I actually said something like "Since when you were this handsome?", to a man when I dated." (gah, now I cringe)
Meanwhile If you look at Kim Eun-hee's shows- Sign, Ghost, Three days, Signal, etc-mostly they have heavy contents of digging and reveal the injustice as well as simple and clean Melo line. This genre expert writer KEH complements Kim Eun-sook's endless effort to create one dialogue. She says thinking about a dialogue is KES's daily routine. "Writer Kim Eun-sook seems to think about those lines all the time. Her 24 hours are all about her work. There is never a time she does not think about her script and dialogues." They both explain writers' life is tough not to be able to even watch snow getting melted and flower blooming once they start working/writing.

(In different interview) About Signal season 2, KEH said, "I think the viewers want to see same casts and PD-num in Season2, then it can't be done right away. I think we have to think about it for a while."

btw What else Kim Eun-sook is known for? PPL (adding PPL in her shows)
Did anyone get annoyed watching ep 13 of DoTS? It was not just me, viewers picked annoying PPL scenes like the cafe Yoo Si-jin and Gang Mo-yeon dated, and the whole process YSJ paid for their order. Also Seo Dae-young and Yoon Myung-joo's kiss scene in the car where camera pinned on the steering wheel. On Ep 14, There were Choco pie, Almond, Car. They say one of the viewing pleasure in KES shows is finding hidden PPL.lol

Thanks again for translating this! Too bad that we probably won't see a joint project between these 2 writers, but stranger things have happened!

0

part of that has just got to be Subway... watching Big Man there's egregious PPL for them, too.

Chinese are even worse. I've read that they added extra PPLs while editing (RIO is there for sure).

Outrageous, ridiculous, tasteless, weird...I'm running out of adjectives.

Interesting. Thanks for translating the KEH/KES story.

Personally, I think dramaland needs both kinds of writers.

I enjoy shows like Punch and Awl that tackle darker topics, corruption in society, etc but sometimes they are too depressing to watch. When I'm down, shows like the one KES writes cheer me up. I think there's room for both kinds. ^^

In short, Kim Eunhee is a realist and Kim Eunsook is an idealist. Now, that make sense. I guess leaning more towards realism, that's why I find it hard to grasp the ideals in most of Kim Eunsook's works.

DoTS -do we really have just one more week left? Time surely flies.
Some interview with Jo Jae-yoon (42) who played the chief manager Jin of the power plant in DoTS. [Star news]
He made the viewers angry and got the nick "nation's eyesore". He said "No matter how much hatred you get, having "nation's" in your nick means you are getting that much love, you see. I am so amazed. Even though I get lots of hate, I take it as I digested and portrayed Jin's character well. There is nothing greater for an actor to hear "His acting is great."

He said he was feeling overwhelming response. Number of His SNS followers got increased unbelievably in a week, and people recognize him when he goes to a restaurant. "Currently I am shooting the TVN drama Pied piper. There was time I went to a restaurant in countryside for shooting, and the owner must be an eager fan of DoTS because she told me "Don't trouble our Joong-gi." I used to get (free) fried eggs, but now they don't give it to me. Looking at that, I believe I am really disliked. Still when I finished my meal, she said she was enjoying the show."

He said there is a behind story on Jin's character. At first, Jin was not chief manager/Sojang, but deputy manager/Gwajang and character was not detailed. Also character wore jumper and jeans with safety cap in the construction site. "I have gray/white hair. When they had the service (to pray for show's success) before shooting starts for DoTS, I went without dyeing my hair, and writer and PD noticed thinking 'he looks different'. After that, script got changed in hurry and my title was changed to chief manager, screen time was increased, and character had more depth. Before that I thought he was just a regular superior who was common in any work place, reading the script, but as the character had more depth with change, I thought the range that I could portray was increased."

About the scene Seo Dae-young threw the swearing words at Jin- which got into trouble after the broadcast, he said "Jin character is really selfish. Due to earthquake there were many deaths and injured people, yet he was driving the fork lane to find diamond, which was just absurd. I can't remember well because I was not in right mind with things being so crazy during the shooting. But when I watched it airing, even though I was on the receiving end, I felt refreshing. In the viewers' point of view, Seo's swearing must have made people feel good. I read comments and many netz said they felt good. Of course the swearing is not good, but the situation made sense and if that relieved the viewers' frustration I think it was not bad."

When he was asked if he had an offer playing Yoo Si-jin(Song Joong-gi) or Seo Dae-young(Jin Gu), which one he'd choose, he said "Seo Dae-young. As a viewer, the reason I like the show is bromance rather than two couples' romance. In the show, SDY protects YSJ risking his life. Yet he doesn't brag. To SDY, YSJ is...

To SDY, YSJ is friend before his superior. So he thinks risking his life for him is nothing to hesitate. His loyalty like that is so cool." About SDY's love philosophy, he said "There was time I could not confess my love because the woman I liked was so much better than me, and I was afraid I might be rejected. But SDY is different. His effort to protect the woman he loves and her happiness is so manly. Also he tries not to show, but there is an excitement. I think that is why he is even more attractive character." (just thinking about him being shy makes me laugh.heh)

Can't wait to watch Page Turner. Why only 3 episodes? :(
Here are summary of reasons for the show's success.[DC news]
Basically it was thanks to production team and actors/actresses' effort.
1. Page turner finished it's shooting last December. They had plenty of time studying about acting and directing and paying more attention to the finishing touch. Kim So-hyun, Ji Soo, Sin Jae-ha took piano lesson and studied music scales to portray the piano playing convincingly before shooting started.

2.Kim So-hyun cut her finger nail short. To detail aspiring pianists' daily life, actual piano book, piano grip were used and performance poster, home page etc were made just like real ones. Also all actors/actresses playing piano in the show had to cut their finger nail short. The scene Kim Son-hyun put toothpaste on her hand first before putting that to toothbrush was picked as a scene portraying a blind person's life realistically.

3.How was such good piano playing possible? To be able to relay the piano performance close to original, production team recorded all music in the filming site when shooting. So every time shooting, they had to tune the piano to its finest and nation's top classical music recording/mastering team participated. Also all performance pieces in the show were re-arranged to reflect the characters in the show. For example, in ep 2, Beethoven's 9th version was re-worked many times by the request from a classical expert to make it "warm, nice and cozy'.

Also for the first time in KBS drama history, all process was 'TAPELESS' production. This was to make the loss coming from video and audio to minimum and present the viewers close to original sound as possible for the piano performance.
It took about 2 months for audio work alone in this show. Classical experts tried to shape the audio to fit situation of each scene and character's emotions. It is said that people who participated in monitoring the show was shocked at the performances and audio quality of the piano contest performance in the last episode (ep3 -I can't hardly wait to watch this!). Production staff mentioned that regular TV speaker wouldn't do the justice and use of headphone or earphone is recommended, which will impress the viewers even more on the performance and drama.

I am waiting until Page Turner finished to start watching it and sooooo excited for this. At first merely because of Kim Soohyun & Jisoo but now after reading your post i feel touched and grateful. The fact that production team is so meticulous and paying attention to little details makes viewer like me feeling happy. They really want us to get the best quality drama possible and i appreciate that. Too bad this is only short drama >.<

Happy Friday everyone!

While I am enjoying many kdramas I am fed up with Jdramas! I can't watch the end of 'Himura Hideo noSuiri' because even though it says it is subbed no subs are there.

Also after hooking me on 'Fragile', 'Keishichou Zer-gakari', and one I've now apparently forgotten the subs have stopped even though they have all the raw. Sooo frustrated. Not to mention how many I can't even start due to no subs at all. I guess I'll just have to be more careful in the future.

I like bai zi hua and his never out of battery flying sword.
You gonna love the caterpillar, I am serious, dead serious.
Hua Qian Gu is kinda all over the place and she is slow.
I hate the clingy immortal goddess in early ep, you are immortal and looked young, what more do you want??
I loved the book and the item that work like hologram with sounds, no more reading and just watch it,
Prepare yourself and just enjoy cause it is a hell of a journey

Wallace Huo is really handsome, I am a fan of him (shamelessly acknowledge).
You put WH as this shiny powerfull immortal leader, ofc someone gonna fall in love.

My overall sentence for this drama is
The Journey of Flower : Why we can't become immortal

Ha! I'd be that store clerk who has a secret crush on that one guy who frequents the shop. I'd be the girl who always makes sure she's at the counter when he's in the store, but is too shy to ever actually say anything beyond 'did you find everything alright? Thanks for coming in'. I'd try to keep out of his way and wouldn't be very good at striking up conversation, even though he seems like an okay guy. But then I'd be trying to take back a stack of books half my height to shelve, and they'd fall all over the place and he'd help me pick them up. Cue music, he asks for my number (or I pluck up the courage?) and the rest is history.

Funny story, I actually did once try to take that stack of books back to shelve, but there was no guy to help--just my MT laughing at me.

you know now I am really feeling you, Hong Nan. Walking on heels is awful I would have gotten here sooner, but I had a lot of errands to run (run literally, cause the traffic was slow) I really felt like those heroes who run through the town in their heels and collapse in front of some chaebol, except I am estonian and we dont have time to collapse. No luck for me.
oh, and also, all our chaebols or rich people are lying, dirty, shameless a**holes who have no balls to admit their mistakes. well, the usual type, then?

I was watching Vampire Detective and I like the plot and the detached behavior of San, but he gets stabbed and shot a bit too much. I guess that is the point. I never would have thought anyone can bring something new into a vampire story, but here we are... the only thing I roll my eyes at is the vaporizing in the sun - can we stop doing that, there is absolutely no scentific proof that would happen. Can we replace that next time? Otherwise, I like the humor in this series, despite its´ darkness, and that it is a trio of investigators instead of two partners (well, Signal was sort of a trio as well)

Come Back Ajussi: something is bothering me about this. It is like, at spots the melodramatic moments feel a little insincere? Too much time spent "looking with some water in your eyes like you never saw X before".

Jackpot: now that we have done the baby and Geunsukkie stepped in, I am really getting a kick out of this. Such a turnaround from his usual snotty male starlettes. And such a relatable life story. so he is lucky, but only in some things. and when he is unlucky he is really unlucky. haha

other news: I got the picture from the even on 29th, with the president. there is me, in the center, next to me the other winners (older ladies) and behind us three men, the head of National Archives of Folklore, The President and the head of the Literature Museum. Haha. For ONCE, I look decent on a picture. Did they re-touch it? hmm, I bet they did.

question: who is the best unlucky lead?

Highest compliment I've ever gotten on my writing was when a reader told me she wanted to write fanfiction on my unfinished manuscript for one of the secondary characters. I told her he'd have a ship with another character, and she freaked out, telling me to write it. I couldn't stop smiling.

It IS a great moment, isn't it? I was sitting on the couch being amazed and thinking, "Wow! Wow! What the heck just happened? What is Prince Torrent gonna do now?"

Beware of that fanfiction wanna-write-reader. On the one hand, it's so good to get reader's feedback. It makes one feel as if one isn't writing out into the void. But there are so many iffy issues going on with fanfiction right now and so many ethically-challenged writers and plagiarists. Yep, I'm sounding cynical but..beware.

Thanks for the advice, I will. :) Doesn't sound cynical at all, just realistic. :)

yo, Carol. I use cliffhangers on some of my tours now, tell a story and say if you want to find out the end, read this screen. and they are a flying hit. I always get an applause, never got many before. enchances the use of our interactive screens as well.

I always felt it was manipulative...I won't even talk about my annoyance with the ending of this season's Walking Dead. But I suppose it's become a part of me and I kinda learned to cliffhang/manipulate readers even if I hadn't wanted to learn.

Writing beautifully AND writing cliffhangery --> now there is the great aim. I'm a lover of the slow burn in stories so I tend to be waaay too chill about how stories go (especially my own stories) but now...well, cliffhangers are flying left and right at the end of every chapter.

Any fellow beanies who are watching The Promise / Heaven Promise? I am dying searching for its ost. I think it does not release yet. The voice sounds like Lee Hi.

My fav show at the moment :

1) Ms Temper & Nam Jung Ki - when I am even changed my name a bit, it means I am really hook up with the drama✌??

2) Heaven Promise - An addictive revenge drama, plus it is female centric. Lee Yoo Ri is too awesome.

I haven't watched The Promise. I keep waiting to see if the sisters get together, then I can get past the whole switched child thing and enter the revenge proper. What's Heaven's Promise about.

Is "promise" showing up in every drama? That's the name of the restaurant in Marriage Contract. I wonder what the actual word is in Korean. Usually it's Yaksu, I think. Which I've surmised means: promise, schedule, appointment, promise. I like that. Very like the Hebrew meaning of hope/promise/expected ending/appointed time

Ellooo Beanies,

It has been an exhausting week with me trying to get some data analysis done whole week and failing horribly. To top that we are having a family of five visiting us on Saturday and I have to make lunch /tidy up house/do laundry/get an 'effing paper submitted before midnight so I'm feeling pretty grumpy. now.
Hah!
Rant over.

On the drama fronts: I have only manged to watch Mr. Black and I am annoyed by the lack luster presentation of this so-called revenge drama. I prefer the villain and his missus (Mi Ra) than the OTP. Seriously. They are visually better appealing and have better chemistry between them!
Sorry..seem to be still ranting.

Rewatched White Christmas to wash away the annoyance and boy oh boy..despite knowing the ending I still luff this show...Massive Attack's teardrop has become my song of the week!

Signing off now to go cook a chicken!
Happy weekend folks :)

*hands over a raspberry chocolate bar* I'm sorry life's so stressful right now, that's no fun. I'm cheering for you, I bet your paper will be awesome, the data will understand you're giving it your all, and the family will love you to bits and pieces. I believe in you!

I was reading an article about Kim Go-eun and somehow ended up on comments about her interview about CitT which, I think, was quite controversial as people took it as her indirectly blaming Park Hae-jin. She said, "An actor's job is to be viewed as his character to the viewers so it upsets me a lot that the actor himself became a controversy and distracted from the drama".

While, it does seem so, I'd like to believe otherwise. Knetz sure are scary. I read a previous article about her and they had a lot of positive comments. Then, she speaks, and comments take a 360. How easily love turns into anger and vice versa(dramaland was right all along with its tales of revenge and bickering romance). It's sad though. Maybe it would've been better had she not spoken. But it's really frustrating how even a slight hint of being against PHJ(whom I like and adore btw) means lots of hate.

It maddens me that everyone else is put down to put PHJ up. Because it could've been any actor, really. Because it could've been just her stating her frustrations on how the controversy negatively affected the drama which is true. He spoke up for himself(I admire him for that and so did all). She spoke up for her drama that has been covered and shrouded by all the issues. It's still somewhat hard for me to see cheese as just cheese, without those pia.. er that. Of course, it could be just me trying to salvage my adoration for her. But, either way, it's more disappointing and frustrating that *some* people keep jumping on conclusions when we have no clear idea about what really went on and probably never will. End of rant. Now I'll pretend I never said anything and shall not speak of anything of any relation to it again because I've *clearly* moved on lol.

DoTS - Oh so pretty but me not so hooked. So me shall move on to other dramas lol. I will, of course, try it again as I like the cast. And Joongki-yaaa!

CBA - Fun and entertaining. Will catch up some time later.

YOF: Africa - Taking time to watch until all the eps are subbed. Speaking of, I'm so grateful for the subs. 감사하다! And I got chills all over when they were at Elim Dune and making speeches.

My to-watch list just gets longer by the minute and now my summer, I guess, is fully-booked. I can't can't can't wait for May to come. The photoshoot from Lucky Romance had me melting and the Entertainer teaser had me beaming. They be island-hopping and I'll be story-hopping. Just thinking about it makes my heart jump lol. It's pretty random but I'm starting with Game of Thrones hah.

Hi everyone ,I don't often comment, am more of a lurker but I really felt the need to today. I took a long break from dramas in the last few years ,not out of choice but just because I had limited access to them .This year, however, my drama addiction has returned and it's even worse than before since I have lots of catching up to do .This month alone I've watched Oh my Ghostess, Healer, One More Happy Ending ,Splish splash love and She was pretty. I've finally finished My love from another Star but I'm failing to finish Liar Game because I can't get the last two episodes.

Everything about Healer was perfect for me ,every single episode was necessary to the storyline. I loved My Love from another Star but it took me over two years to scrounge up each and every episode so my frustration over that affected my initial love for the drama. Liar Game was perfect too but I'll have to run around to find the last two episodes .

Welcome!

I enjoyed Oh My Ghostess till the last episode. It wasn't perfect but it hit the spot at the time. The 4 leads were great, Park Bo-Young, Jo Jung-Seok, Kim Seul-Gi and Lim Ju-Hwan.

I'm keeping tap on all 4 of them. The two boys and Kim Seul-Gi have movie projects and one upcoming drama for Lim Ju-Hwan. Park Bo-Young has a movie project but is having trouble casting a leading man. I'm kind of disappointed that she turned down "With God" because Ha Jung Woo would've been her leading man.

I wonder if I should try Liar Game before the 2nd installment comes out.

Yeah, it's a powerful movie. Raw emotions. Both Patty Duke and Anne Bancroft won Oscars for their roles.

Bancroft had played the role of Anne Sullivan on the stage. Arthur Penn, the producer of both the play and the film, to his credit, insisted that Bancroft be cast in the film.

Studio executives wanted Elizabeth Taylor and promised millions in budget if he went with her. They subsequently reduced the budget to 500k when he stood his ground. Bean counters and office suits, what do they know?

Okay, so I went back to Come Back Mister after stopping for a while. I'm currently at episode 11 and omg that reveal! I seriously didn't expect that! I'm happy that Youngsoo's arc is finally gearing towards making his family happy and finally opening his eyes to who his wife really is.

Anybody here watching Hip Hop Tribe? The hip hop show with rapping grandmas?

Hot and humid in Asia. Korea fever is everywhere from food to all sorts of home and beauty products.

But ironically, feeling less than inspired by current dramas.

I dip into DOTS to see Song Joong Ki's face and toying with watching Jackpot but haven't found the will.

Watching Taiwanese Refresh Man - the number of times I have said, the male lead is an ass, if he weren't so gorgeous... Aaron Yan looks all grown up and twice the size he was in Just You.

Happy Friday, OT! I've finally recovered from the flu, and am back to my drama-obsessed self!

I started watching DOTS and I would no longer be watching if it were not for Jin Gu. Oh my, that man can act, even with just his eyes while the rest of him stays immobile in quiet stoic heroism. Most of the time I am saying things to the screen like "I can't believe how bad this is", or "Come on, not again." I think I've even thrown a few things. And these clowns they call doctors would have been kicked out of medical school if this were real life. So most of the time I'm laughing sarcastically or angry, but then Jin Gu comes onscreen. and all is forgiven. It doesn't hurt to look at him either, RAWR, so yes, I'm in it for the long haul.

Welcome Back, Mister is still enjoyable. I'm pleased that we haven't had the typical breakdown of the story line that is all too frequent in Kdrama by the halfway point. T

Thanks for the recommendations; I'm already hunting for something to watch when DOTS ends. Have a great week!

whew, am pretty late to this week's thread but here I am anyway!

5 children ep 11-14: WAHHH I sobbed quite a lot in ep 12 when MJ revealed to her oldest son about her divorce :< and also I feel so sorry for Yeon Tae, but it's quite a comical situation too. Am slowly warming up to 2nd bro but he's so rash sometimes which puts me off.

Have been meaning to start Jackpot and Page Turner but I haven't any energy to watch when I get back from my temp job.

In non Kdrama shows, I've been watching Bu Bu Jing Xin/Scarlet Heart and 13th prince makes me squee. He's so talented and nice. I'm now up to ep 21 and I'm just sad that he's locked up :<

Oh yes and I forgot to add my thoughts about the TW show I'm watching, Back to 1989: Ahh I wonder how it's going to end. Ye Zhen Zhen better get together with Chen Che :-( I think how the show's going to end is that he doesn't go back to the present/chooses to be with ZZ and that allows his parents to get a happy ending and he is never born. AKA the past and present diverge. Bc if it didn't, it would be so weird for Ya Juan to name her baby after her friend. + That's the only way the main pair can stay together. /crosses fingers/ Anyhow, in last week's episode I was hoping that ZZ would hear XL's confession (more dilemma etc) BUT IT WAS SUCH A COP OUT D: she didn't even hear it! What a waste.
