Twenty Again: Episode 12
by girlfriday
I didn’t think this hero could get any swoonier, but he just keeps raising the bar. I’m convinced this is a fantasy drama now, because people like this just don’t exist in real life. It’s a rough day for our heroine as revelations come hurtling at her from just about every single person around her, but the angst is buoyed by her budding feelings, and I have to say—the ensuing awkwardness was worth the wait.

EPISODE 12 RECAP
Nora opens her eyes at the jjimjilbang to discover that she’s sleeping right next to Hyun-seok, and her heart suddenly starts to race. And then to top it off, Hyun-seok slings his arm over her in his sleep and she panics.
Sadly he’s not awake to witness her spazzing, and she sliiiiiides out from under his arm and is still so frazzled by her own reaction that she gets dressed and runs out of there at the crack of dawn.
She puts her hand over her racing heart and wonders why it’s beating so fast, and if it’s malfunctioning. I know a man you could see about that.
Hyun-seok gets up and sees that both girls are gone, then finds Seung-hyun sleeping a little distance away. He calls just as Nora is arriving at home, and he’s relieved to hear that she’s safe. She doesn’t have a good excuse for why she suddenly left, so she blurts that it was too hot to sleep there.
He tells her to make sure to tell her husband about why she spent the night out, and she says she’ll handle it. She hangs up feeling weird and wonders aloud, “Why am I so uncomfortable?” as she presses a hand against her flushed face. Hyun-seok assumes that she felt bad about staying out all night if she dashed home at daybreak.
Woo-chul comes out of his room to ask about the phone call, and Nora just says that it’s a friend and walks away without explaining anything about last night. He guesses that it was Hyun-seok on the phone, which raises his hackles.
In the morning, Hyun-seok gets Seung-hyun’s security bars replaced, and she promises to pay him back as soon as she gets paid. He tells her she can repay him with favors instead, like the one last night when she told him where they were.
Seung-hyun: “You like Nora unni, don’t you?” He denies it, but we see that Seung-hyun came out of the restroom last night and saw them sleeping cozily next to each other. She smiles knowingly and tells him that they’re a good match, but he swears that they’re just friends.
Meanwhile, Nora gives Soon-nam the bad news that she has to quit their dance club. Nooooo, why? She says there’s hardly any time left after her part-time jobs, and has also come to terms with the fact that there’s a time for everything, and her dancing days are behind her.
He tries to convince her to stay, but she says that she’ll come running to help out if they ever need her. Soon-nam threatens to hold her to that, and Nora promises, assuring him that once a hoobae is forever a hoobae.
Nora walks across campus and sees Hyun-seok approaching on his bike, and gets adorably flustered. She raises her hand to wave, but when he doesn’t see her she spins around feeling awkward.
She decides to try again with an even bigger wave, then feels even more awkward and spins around to hide behind a tree, like she suddenly doesn’t know how to function. I love it. It’s like the battle of the dorks.
She inches around the tree to avoid being seen, then tries to slow down her rapidly beating heart, wondering again what’s come over her. She flashes back to Hyun-seok’s sleeping face inches from hers, and gets mad at him for sleeping near her and scaring her.
Yi-jin is surprised when she gets a chilly greeting from Hyun-seok today, and decides that he doesn’t have a crush on her after all. She busts out her whiteboard to figure out what the heck Nora’s relationship is to both men to make Hyun-seok act so hot and cold towards her, then finally comes up with the only explanation: He knows about her affair.
She remembers how cryptic he was when he returned her fountain pen with the engraving on it, and cringes to realize that he knew all along. She goes to confront him about it head-on, and he doesn’t deny it.
Yi-jin tells him that he’s got it all wrong though, because her relationship with Woo-chul isn’t an affair—he’s long been divorced in practice with Nora. Aaaaah, he knows! He knows!
Hyun-seok is floored, and asks angrily for her to explain what that means. Yi-jin tells him that it’s been years since Nora and Woo-chul have signed contracts for their divorce, and that the only reason they haven’t finalized it is because Nora is hanging on. Oh no, don’t tell him your warped version of the story! She even says that Nora came to college in an effort to hold onto her husband.
Nora and Sang-ye take a break to decide on lunch, and when ddukboki comes up as an option, Sang-ye is surprised to hear that Hyun-seok still hasn’t told her about that ddukboki place. She tells her that their high school friend Dong-chul runs it, and Nora heads over there to see for herself.
She finds it on a little corner, and it’s called Granny Flower Ddukboki, just like her grandmother’s old shop. Dong-chul assumes that Hyun-seok finally told her about the place, and Yoon-young is just as surprised when she joins them.
Dong-chul tells them that after Grandma’s funeral, he went to go clean up after her shop, and Hyun-seok came with him. We see them in flashback as they both sigh over never being able to eat Grandma’s ddukboki again.
When Dong-chul finds Grandma’s secret sauce, there’s a recipe on the lid drawn in pictures instead of words, and Hyun-seok is able to interpret it based on the things Grandma used to tell him. In the present, Dong-chul says that he didn’t know it then, but Hyun-seok was the one who bought Grandma’s shop and left it under someone else’s care. The girls are shocked and ask why, and Dong-chul remembers him saying that he’d miss it for the rest of his life.
Then much later, Dong-chul was saddled with debt and moved here thinking of opening a shop, and found this one. He’s been running it ever since. Nora asks with tears brimming in her eyes, “Hyun-seok protected my grandmother’s store?”
Meanwhile Hyun-seok is reeling from the news that Nora is in the middle of a divorce, only he interprets it all the wrong way, remembering how Yoon-young said that Woo-chul was Nora’s entire universe. He sighs, “Ha Nora, you dummy, did you hang on like that all this time?”
Dong-chul serves the girls a plate of Grandma’s ddukboki, and Nora starts to well up as she thanks him and Hyun-seok for doing what she couldn’t. She takes a taste, and her tears spill out as soon as she eats one.
When Hyun-seok arrives at the office, Sang-ye is worried because Nora ran off and never came back when she heard about the ddukboki shop. Sang-ye worries that she made another mistake, but Hyun-seok says it’s good for her to have good memories right now, so that she can remember that she had someone who loved her that much.
Dong-chul calls to tell Hyun-seok that Nora is there, and when he hears that she’s crying, Hyun-seok tells him to close up shop for the day so that she can have a good cry. Awww. He promises to make up today’s sales personally, and Dong-chul asks if he’s Nora’s husband or father. Hyun-seok: “I’m her oppa!” Oh, swoon.
Sang-ye wonders what’s going on, and Hyun-seok sighs that Nora’s relationship with her husband was far more complicated than he knew, and it was never something he could fix in the first place.
He says it’s impossible to live outside of your universe, and he regrets not being nicer to her from the start, offering her someone to lean on instead of bugging her and yelling at her: “I should’ve been good to her, like an oppa.”
Nora returns to the office still a little teary-eyed, and wonders what she’ll say to Hyun-seok when she sees him. She decides that thank you isn’t enough, but doesn’t know how else to express her gratitude.
But when she gets inside, Hyun-seok is all business and suggests that they have their meeting elsewhere. Sang-ye says that there’s a place he likes to go to clear his head, and soon they’re at camping grounds.
Hyun-seok hands both Nora and Sang-ye stuff to read before their meeting, and insists on taking over the cooking while they work. Can I have him? When Nora protests, he leads her to the chair and plops her down in it, their faces getting awfully close in the process.
Nora gets fluttery again and quickly agrees to stay put. She doesn’t get much reading done though, because she’s too busy watching him cook with a goofy smile on her face. When he tastes his soup and smiles, she notes, “That’s right, he has dimples.” I’m sorry, what. How could you not notice those giant craters of cuteness until now?
She’s super impressed with the giant spread and says after one taste that he might even be better than her. Hyun-seok protests that he’s not nearly as good, then catches himself when he remembers he’s supposed to hate her cooking. Nora sighs happily that she can’t remember the last time someone cooked for her, and Hyun-seok’s heart seems to crumble a little more.
After dinner, they play Go Stop to determine the loser who has to wash dishes, and Hyun-seok totally cheats… so that he can deal Nora all the good cards so that she’ll win. Aaaagh, why are you so cute?
Nora refuses to let him do the dishes alone, so he lets her rinse. She finally gets to say thank you for Grandma’s shop, and says that she didn’t know he loved her grandmother that much. He tells her that Grandma fed him a lot back in the day, and that if she’s really that grateful, she can say, “Thank you, oppa.”
He points out that he’s taller than her, bigger than her, and his birthday comes before hers, so that makes him an oppa. She laughs and wonders why he wants to be oppa all of a sudden, and he says that she doesn’t have an oppa and he doesn’t have a little sister, so she can think of him as her oppa from now on.
Nora throws him an, “Okay, o-ppa,” and makes his day. She comes home in good spirits and happily agonizes over what to text to Hyun-seok, deciding on a thank-you with a smiley face.
Yi-jin calls Woo-chul to ask when he’s going to come up with that solution he promised, to secure his standing at the university and make their marriage possible. He snaps he’s working on it and wonders if Yi-jin was always like this. Trouble in paradise?
Woo-chul attends a lunch with colleagues, and seems very interested to hear that a new position is opening up at a different school. Ooh, that would be so nice for everyone if you took a new job.
Min-soo and Hye-mi end up wandering in circles looking for a dessert place that night, and he happens to spot Mom working at the convenience store. He’s so appalled that he ditches Hye-mi and runs home to confront Dad about it, and Dad says her part-time job is just office work.
But Min-soo tells him about the convenience store, and Dad is just as shocked. Min-soo says it’s their business if they get divorced, but he demands that Dad pay Mom’s tuition: “It’s your fault she didn’t get to go to school at the right time!”
Woo-chul demands to know where the convenience store is, and is horrified to see the manager giving Nora the leftover triangle kimbap to take home. He storms in to pick a fight with him for calling her an ajumma and treating her like that, and declares that she’s a professor’s wife. This is so embarrassing.
He grabs Nora’s wrist and tries to drag her out of there, and the whole time he’s shouting, “What is Professor Kim Woo-chul’s wife doing here?!” Of course, this is all about you, isn’t it? The manager doesn’t believe him, thinking that the husband is obviously a loser if she has to work here.
Woo-chul angrily lunges forward to fight him… and brings an entire shelf down on himself instead. Ha, I love when he falls and then poses like he totally meant to sit down in the middle of the floor like that.
He ends up having to pay for the shelf he broke, on top of getting Nora fired. He says he’ll give her money, because having her work at a place like this is disgracing his name, but she counters that she’s not his wife anymore.
Woo-chul says that it’s not legally binding yet, so until then, she’s his responsibility. Nora says she’s not a child: “I’M going to take responsibility for me.” He doesn’t see how she’s going to live off these wages, then asks if Hyun-seok offered to pay her way. Barf. That is so offensive.
He warns her not to get divorced believing in Hyun-seok’s lies, and Nora just scoffs in disbelief and asks if Woo-chul was always this impossible to talk to. I do love it when she uses his words back at him. She whirls around and leaves him in the street mid-sentence.
Down in the subway, Nora sees a couple playing peekaboo and finds it cute, but that triggers a memory she’d pushed aside all this time. She now remembers Hyun-seok being at the theater that night when she caught Woo-chul cheating—he had tried to cover her eyes and followed her out.
She heads over to his place late at night to ask him about it, and when she asks it so directly—if he saw her husband there with another woman—he can’t deny it. She gets choked up and says, “You saw. That’s why you were like that to me.” Aw, no.
He tries to explain, but she says he must’ve laughed at her for running away like that after seeing her husband cheating on her, and asks why he didn’t say anything and made her embarrassed.
Nora: “That’s why you were acting like a friend and being nice, when you hated me before that. Because you felt sorry for me?” He tries to get her to come inside so he can explain, but she shakes his hand away and runs off.
He goes running after her down the street, shouting that she’s got it all wrong. But she hides in the shadows and lets him run past her, believing the worst as she remembers all the times he said he was just helping her because he felt sorry for her.
Later, she sits in the dark at home and wonders tearfully how stupid he must think she is. And in the morning, she calls Sang-ye to say that she’s quitting. Hyun-seok doesn’t understand what he is to her that she’d be upset enough to quit her job.
He calls and she ignores it, but he tracks her down on campus in no time, like a proper stalker. She tries to scurry out of the computer lab before he spots her, but he cuts her off outside.
He asks why she’d quit over something like that, and says it hurts his feelings that she’d avoid him like this when they’re friends. She says that she’s the one who’s uncomfortable and tell him to find someone new, but he refuses and tells her he’s going to wait for her to show up to the audition tonight.
She gets a call from Yi-jin offering to let her know about a part-time job, and walks away without giving Hyun-seok an answer. Hyun-seok plops down on a bench in frustration, and happens to witness a fight between Min-soo and Hye-mi.
Hye-mi is upset that Min-soo won’t tell her what’s going on with him lately, and Min-soo just asks for some time to figure things out, promising to tell her later. They just go round and round in circles, until finally Hyun-seok gets up and counsels them, not knowing at all who they are.
He tells Hye-mi that guys go into a cave when they have a problem, and tells her to just be patient because her boyfriend will eventually crawl out of the cave and tell her what’s going on. He tells Min-soo that telling his girlfriend nothing makes her just assume the worst, and she’s asking to have her feelings acknowledged.
He puts his hands on their shoulders like some dating guru and says that men and women are this different… and also difficult. It’s funny, given how bad he is at his own love life.
Yi-jin tells Nora about a part-time job at a friend’s gallery that’s opened up, and Nora asks why she’s finding her a job. Yi-jin says it’s simply because she was looking for one, and starts asking her all sorts of questions about why she’s working.
Nora cuts her off by addressing her as Kim Yi-jin-sshi, and notes that this must be difficult for her. Nora says that it doesn’t matter who she is or why she came to school: “You can have Kim Woo-chul.” OMO.
Yi-jin’s jaw drops, and Nora says she knows who she is and why she’s doing this. We flash back to their last encounter in the bathroom, when Yi-jin was stalking her that day. Nora sees that “Cousin Oppa” calls, and Yi-jin hurries outside with her phone.
Outside, Yi-jin asks why Nora is working for Hyun-seok, and offers to look into an additional position for her if she wants it. As Nora watches her go, she gets a strange feeling and remembers the number that flashed when Cousin Oppa called, and checks it against Woo-chul’s number in her own phone.
It’s a match. And so is the purse Yi-jin is carrying—it’s the same one she saw Woo-chul holding at the theater. She even remembers passing by Yi-jin that day when she stole Hye-mi away to save Min-soo from getting caught.
Back in the present, Yi-jin tries to act innocent, but Nora tells her about the matching phone numbers. Nora asks why she’s asking her all this stuff, and if she still hasn’t heard from Woo-chul that they’re going to process their divorce.
This is clearly news to Yi-jin, and Nora says that she agreed to push it until the end of July because Woo-chul needed to confirm his family status with the university. Judging from Yi-jin’s confused reaction, that was a bullshit excuse, and both women realize they’ve been lied to. Yi-jin is flabbergasted at Nora’s nonchalant offer to let her have Woo-chul, which doesn’t jive at all with her being the hanger-on in their marriage.
Nora goes straight to Woo-chul’s office and calls him out on his lie, and says that she’s just met with “your woman Kim Yi-jin.” She says she doesn’t really care why he lied to prolong their marriage, and asks to go to court right now.
He flails and says that he delayed things because he determined that she needed more time, and finally Nora yells, “Stop it!” She says he does everything according to his own selfish perspective, and that he has narcissistic personality disorder, quoting her intro psych class. She asks him not to stall any longer, and leaves him totally spun around.
He can barely process what just happened, and wonders how Nora found out about Yi-jin. All he can think is that Hyun-seok told her, and storms over to his office to grab him by the collar and accuse him of meddling.
Woo-chul thinks that Hyun-seok is the one who saw them at the theater and told Nora all about it, while Hyun-seok is shocked to hear that Nora knows about Yi-jin. Woo-chul wants to know what Hyun-seok coached Nora to say, because otherwise she’d never be the first to shove divorce papers at him. YAAASSSSSS.
Hyun-seok freezes and just repeats, “Divorce papers? Nora… asked for a divorce? When? When?! Did Nora really decide to get a divorce?!” I’m flailing right now.
Woo-chul walks out of there stunned speechless, and realizes that Hyun-seok knew nothing about this, and that he really meant it when he was trying to help them patch up their marriage. And then it dawns on him: “He sincerely likes her?”
Hyun-seok takes a moment to process this monumental news, then calls Nora repeatedly, begging with texts for her to answer the phone. She finally does, and he pleads with her to come to work because they desperately need the help. He whines, “You said we were friends! You said you were thankful I came back as your friend!”
She doesn’t reply, but it works because she runs over to help out and save the day. They get through auditions, and Hyun-seok pats her on the head as he tells her that she did a good job. Aw, he means her deciding to leave Woo-chul, doesn’t he? She just wonders what’s gotten into him when all she did was show up to work.
He walks out with her, insisting that he has somewhere to be and is taking the bus too. She tells him that she’s still quitting the job and lies that she found other work already, but he’s already heard from Seung-hyun that she hasn’t.
He swears that he’s not that good a person to do all of this just because he felt sorry for her, and that even when he thought she was dying, or when he found out about her marriage, he’s never once pitied her.
He says that she’s a very important person to him, and he did everything because he likes her (in this case the nuance is a little vague, more like “I like you as a person”). He says that he was concerned and got angry all on his own, “Just like a long time ago.”
She doesn’t understand what he’s saying, so he hands her his old keepsake box to open when she gets home. Eeee! She asks what it is, and he calls it: “Proof that I don’t pity you. Proof that you’re a cool woman. My precious memories.”
He says that he was planning to keep this to himself forever, but she’s being so stubborn about this that he’s giving it to her. He puts it in her hand and says, “Remember the you from this time as you live from now on.” He tells her to come ask him later why she became this person to him, and promises to answer.
Meanwhile, Woo-chul stares at his divorce contract and comes to a decision… and rips it up. Oh nooooes.
Nora takes the box to a nearby park bench and opens it up. She smiles to see a mixtape with all her old favorite songs, and takes out the little card inside. We hear Little Hyun-seok’s voice reading the card aloud: “At first I was happy just to be your friend, but now I’m not. Ha Nora!!! I like you.”
And then, she hears present-day Hyun-seok’s voice saying, “Ha Nora, I like you,” and looks up.
COMMENTS
Oh, what a relief. I was so scared that the angst would continue, but we were given just the right amount that I could handle. I don’t know what I would’ve done if we didn’t end on a high note, and if their misunderstanding had lasted a whole week. Probably write some angry letters. Or go on strike. But because it was cleared up in the course of the episode, I can step back and appreciate what it does to propel our characters forward in some crucial ways. It’s always hard to see Nora struggle with her already shaky self-esteem, especially when she thinks that Hyun-seok is pitying her for being played by Woo-chul. And it’s complicated by the fact that she’s developing feelings for him, which only increases her embarrassment. They’re both stuck in a loop where neither thinks they mean anything much to the other, when in fact the reverse is true. I was so frustrated when he fiiiiiiinally learned about the divorce in the worst way possible—from Yi-jin’s warped perspective where Nora is still in love with her cheating husband and clinging to him. That is so not the way I wanted him to find out.
But then hearing the truth straight from Woo-chul made up for it in the end, because there’s no misunderstanding the situation when Woo-chul is the one freaking out over Nora asking for the divorce. For Hyun-seok, that matters far more than the fact that they’ve been living as a divorced couple in practice, because he thinks Nora’s been in love with Woo-chul all this time. It’s Nora’s feelings that he cares about, and it’s a huge relief that he finds out the one major assumption that he’s had wrong all this time—that Nora wants to stay in her marriage.
It was even a relief to have Yi-jin learn the same thing, because I feel bad for her a lot of the time. It felt freeing to have everyone address the truth so plainly, after all the secrets and sneaking around. There’s also a huge satisfaction in seeing Nora so calm and poised and above it all when she confronts Yi-jin and tells her to keep Woo-chul, like he’s leftovers that she’s done with now. I was so mad at him for getting her fired from her job over his own stupid pride, and now that he seems like he’s going to fight the divorce, I hope that Nora is done cutting him any slack whatsoever.
The confession is enough to keep me on a happy cloud until next week, because now Nora and Hyun-seok can stop with the assumptions and the doublespeak, and maybe even say what they feel. In typical Hyun-seok fashion, he doesn’t even confess wanting something in return—he just wants her to know how awesome she is and that he’s thought of her that way for twenty years, all to make her believe that she’s not some charity case. I love that he gives her the box and says it’s for her to remember who she was back then, in the hopes that she’ll live the rest of her life as the original sparkling Ha Nora. It’s just the kind of confession that I expect from Hyun-seok, because he loves her in that perfectly perfect way where he’s just a fan of who she is and roots for her to be happy. Sure, Oppa’s a little grumpy, but he cooks, he cleans, and he lets her win at Go Stop when she’s having a bad day! I think he deserves to hear about those heart palpitations now, don’tcha think?

But seriously this episode is getting me all in the feels. I'm fangirling so hard right now!
I'm so happy he gave her the box! I though she'd see it when she was in his room, but I'm glad he took the initiative. I can barely wait for next week! Where's the fast forward button on my life?!
And oh my god... that scene where he just went right up in her face... I would've grabbed his face and just... *drifts off into daydreamland*

actually since last week, when we were talking about the Time Capsule here over ep 11, i suddenly feel that the Treasure box may well be a channel of revelation, both Nora and her Hyun Suk need a channel or tool whereby they were reminded, beyond doubts of how they felt about each other, and also to finally be assured of how the other OTP felt once about themselves.
i remembered in "i can hear u", Hye-sung in tears as she read Su-ha’s journal and finally shakened into realisation of how much she meant to su-ha.... same here, Nora need a sincere object from the past, something that Hyun suk written in all his naked raw honesty, in full passion, to finally shattered Nora and knocked her out of all her doubts of denial of her worthiness in Hyun Suk. i had always believed in the "magical power" of such Memory Treasure Box, which let a OTP peep right into the core of that vocano suppressed within her OTP.
now, Hyun Suk's turn to see his Buried Time Capsule... hope Writer will bring it on at the right timing, to let Hyun Suk know his 20 years passion is not wasted.
Loved dearly the way Hyun Suk told Nora, that he actually intended to hide the content in Treasure Box forever in secret. which means, he may let his affection buried and remain "Celibacy" forever. not even allow Nora to know of his feelings and feel bad about let him down. where to find such greatness and silent sacrifice in modern men living around us.
to choose between the hunk youngpal (Joo Won) and Hyun Suk, i will choose a very sincere REAL (not without blemish) Hyun Suk without a wink.

hope she wrote something like.... in the likes of " your loving Nora".

Typing a quick comment before reading the recap -- I love love loved this episode. Amazing how good a show can be even if the plot doesn't hurry along. The only thing I didn't like was when Kim Ye Jin told Cha Hyun Suk about Ha No Ra's virtual divorce -- I realize that it was definitely useful or moving the plot forward and getting Cha Hyun Suk off his butt but I didn't like her attitude as if she was a saint in the whole affair that wasn't an affair (yeah right). Otherwise I thoroughly enjoyed all of the tender moments and revelations in this episode!

Yes! Yijin and Woochul's affair was definitely the catalyst for Woochul's request for a divorce so I really didn't like how she framed it as starting a relationship with a man whose relationship was already over.

Aha, but as we've seen, aside from being an utter narcissist, Woochul just might be a pathological liar. There have been multiple instance in which he's either lied to Ye jin or lied by omission. It wouldn't surprise me if he lied to her about his marital status when they first started seeing each other.

Me and my GFs have been approached by married men many times over. They all have very similar, unimaginative stories to tell about their wives and their married lives. It was good that we had roommates and friends to share such stories w and found the similarities astounding and amusing.

Yes, married men come up with ways to explain away their cheating and even making themselves look like the victims. A man often tells his mistress that he and his wife haven't been intimate in years, that they're de facto separated. That the wife is a harpy who won't let him leave. He wants to leave but she begged him not to, for their children. The wife makes life impossible for him and the poor guy needs an escape.
In the end the make the wife out to be the bad guy and since the mistress a) only has one side of the story and b) needs to believe she isn't helping destroy a marriage, she needs to believe him.

Somehow I find her answer that she was not having a relationship because WC is divorced a lousy excuse. Legally, they are still married and she was told that the reason why WC is not yet divorced is because Nora is still hanging on. Hence, it's not mutual, (at least at that point of time). How can she claim the she did not wreck a marriage? As long as one party wants to hold on, there's still a marriage, and if you have a relationship with the other, YOU ARE A MARRIAGE WRECKER!!!
Moreover, everything that she was told, was from WC's point of view. A man tells you that his wife is naggy, he can't communicate with her, she's a witch, etc...and you simply believe him? When you have not seen the wife, spoken to her, when you do not know her to confirm what he says? Men will tell you all sorts of things to get into your pants, and as a lecturer teaching students about relationships, you are not aware of this?
I for one, do not like her. I find her hypocritical and self-righteous. Woo Chul is her match and I'm not sorry for her if she finds out that he was lying to her. After all, how can you trust a married man who is cheating on his wife? he has no integrity and faithfulness to his wife, why would he be anything more to you? She never bothered to find out more about Nora, she simply accepted everything he said. This is more than just gullible and naive, it's plain stupid.
I personally think that Yijin is as self-centred as WC. Never once did she question how Nora would feel, how Min Soo would feel. It was all about her too. And how WC needed to rise up high enough so that he could impress her father. Aren't they 2 grown ups with enough resources of their own to live their own lives? So what if Daddy dearest doesn't like him? If SHE likes him enough, that's all that matters. Is she afraid of losing her inheritance? Instead she seems very concerned about his status and what it would mean to her rather than his happiness.
But of course, as they are woven from the same cloth, WC too wanted nothing more than be the chairman's son in law. Two peas in a pods!

I just about swooned and died and came back to life when Hyunsuk was cooking and those dimples came out. I texted my boyfriend saying the main lead in the drama I'm watching is so amazing and he asked me who I would choose--I just said I would never choose a fictional character over him. If Hyunsuk were real? ... LOL. But seriously in what drama do you find the male lead so caring and uncompromising in support of his love? The way he treats Nora is nothing short of ah.may.zing.
And yes, girlfriday, to everything about the divorce reveal! I was actually happy Yijin could hear the truth from Nora because while she isn't in the right, it's not fair that Woochul is stringing her along when the end game is (was?) for them to be married.
My heart hurt so much when Yijin broke the divorce news like that to Hyunsuk. It's not misunderstanding in the typical drama sense, but I just wish Nora and Hyunsuk could have talked openly at that point about the real divorce situation and get it all out in the open. Imagine my surprise when I found myself thanking Woochul for being so boneheaded and telling Hyunsuk the truth the whole truth and nothing but the truth.
Perfect amount of angst in another perfect episode. So sad there's only two weeks left :'(

“Whoso diggeth a pit shall fall therein: and he that rolleth a stone, it will return upon him.” (Proverbs 26:27)
remember what Lee Hyun (in IRY) said to that father who caused his own son to be killed by his own malicious plotting for revenge.
i always believed, God is real. when an evil one schemed and heaped wrath upon by his accumulated sins. One way he fall trapped himself by his own doing. WC trapped himself by leaking out the lost piece of jigsaw puzzle, that his mistress has mistakenly pieced into place for HyunSuk (save One last piece). WC himself make that last revelation that can propel HyunSuk towards what WC dread most. for once, i am thankful for something WC did, revealing to HS the inner feels of Nora, which is something Nora herself will never reveal while lost in her doubts and sudden shakened confidence that the bliss she enjoyed thus far is "fake".
Evil Ones sometimes killed themselves by the stone they swing towards the victim.

There’s a reason why Choi Ji Woo was crowned queen of tears a decade ago. I realize every time she cries, my floodgates open up as well... there’s something about her that just evoke so much emotions, and maybe her eyes are really good at conveying her feelings...
I’m really loving this show, and the feels it gives me. The writing is spot on, the acting from the veterans are holding up and its so heart tugging, you remember the dialogues long after you finish each episode.
I’m so glad HS reaffirms her and reminds her that she’s someone worthy to be loved. She has lived her way being neglected for so long that she’s definitely forgotten how sparkling she once was that she leaves a indelible mark on those who knew her.
The way LSY looks at her was also with so much poignancy. How can be be so childish yet so mature at the same time, definitely has some of the best lines as well. From his perspective on “well-dying” to giving Nora the box and explaining how precious she is to him, this show just keeps getting better.
I think rather than sending gifts and flowers and food trucks to the actors, I think a big basket of flowers should be sent to the writers instead. They have given us a most beautiful story and if it continues the way its going now, this is possibly be one of the treasured series in kdramas whereby you will look back upon it with fondness and revisit on a day you’re feeling down.
Congrats to the team for the stellar ratings and I’m looking forward to a satisfying and beautiful 4 eps to come...

I agree w you about CJW:
Not very many actors or actresses make it to and remain at the pinnacle of the A list for 15 years. She is there for good reasons.
One of them is the way she cries quiet tears of heartbreak with elegance and dignity. I hate melodramas but love her thoroughly. Mind you, 15 years ago, melodrama was all there was in KD production.

KDaddict?JCW , and rhea, and all.
re: CJW. many actresses has reached that pinnacle, with some awesome drama, and stayed for a while, either its a drama or that character "minister" or touched... but those are fleeting moments. Some pretty ones can act too, but after one dramas, they just never rose up any more...
KD land are cruel grounds... to many pretty and young and talented "things".
i loved Park Min Young in little ways, but i loved Chae Young shin much more, whether PMY can repeat that Youngshin glory, i don't know.
but CJW is somwhat unique, she is more than those role in WS, or Beautiful Days... she has her downs when she chose so-so works ( i should not mention which ones, in case there are fans of those dramas)...
but because her downs moments created depths in her, trials and low periods mold characters.
you remember just before CJW rules and started the KD waves all over Asia, Taiwan's Qiong Yao weepy dramas were the queens of Asia...
now, nothing in those can hold a candle to what CJW did... at least to me. not just her wailing loud that moves us, its that suppressed intention, the hidden pain, the hopeless waiting, in your own words "quiet Tears of heartbreak" that shaken us, ...
15 years and unshaken by load of beauty like those Yoonas.. is not without reasons.

I think LSY is 34 and CJW is 40. 6 years is a long gap but for some reason, they are still believable...Ji Woo seems good at creating chemistry to any actors she is paired with.....I wasn't too crazy about her earlier works but for some reason I was drawn to her character in "Temptation". I can't believe that she could do it....that cold gaze...hehe...her acting in that drama was amazing to me....that bad YooSeYoung made me addicted to everything CHoi Ji WOo...hee...

amen to that. JiWoo has this chemistry, place her beside any younger hunk she can still oozes a very natural real aura, blending with any co-actor, she made any noonas romance seems possible and completely natural. makes it hard to choose which co-star fix her better.... because in every show, she makes it so real that, its not Choi Ji Woo who romance that star, but she make you think tis the Character she portrayed, the very Noona she acted as, that romancing the younger co-star. Even in Temptation, you don't feel that she is the "mistress", you don't feel the "YJ feels".
(huh.. the only one i never watch finish is the weird House-keeper thingy?)
she is the "Queen of Tears", huh, she can be crowned "Queen of Noonas Romance".

CJW, too has her moments of ups and downs.... those who were once touched by her, 15 years ago, will never be that easily forgotten her.... just like HyunSuk treasure box... those items were his precious memories, either sad or happy were part of what "maketh him". so those moments CJW make us weep buckets weeks after weeks without fail, wept till our chest sucked in, and cried till whole night headache... yet the following weeks we turn up at the same timing to watch Winter S, or Beautiful Days... those were days when we believed dying while loving someone is worth it, or unrequited love is beautiful, or "dying well" even if gotten Cancer is awesome... that will makes our youth....
CJW has walked with us thru those golden days, and nothing in these modern actress like Girl Generation Yoona or Uee or Park Shin Hye... can replace...
any other actresses can cry buckets, can make us cry bucket... maybe even Park Shin Hye's tears can make shaken some fans like the way CJW did to us.... i believe different Generation girls went thru diff experiences and trials...
CJW's Tears has already becometh like a part of her, so natural, that she just don't need to wail loud and wet, she jsut need to turn her eyes redened, and just a drop rolled down her cheek, like when she ate her Spicy rice cake that moment,... you felt time stop... you ask yourself, i missed something precious.. you rewind again and again... you read behind those tears, her feeling rekindled for Hyun Suk. you felt her gratitute of wave soaked you over .
every actress can cry and touched you at that moment... but not many can make you remember that moment many weeks or months later.
CJW, is in my Treasure Box.

Honestly, I came here because of LSY. I have been fangirling over LSY from Angel Eyes.
This is the first time that i like CJW as an actress, even i have known her from Winter Sonata's days. I have watched her few dramas, but nothing made me interested in her. Maybe i am the only one or in minority who doesn't like her and felt that she is somehow exaggerated, @_@ I am sorry to all her fans, i am not hating her, just i don't find she is appealing to me. I am excited for her role in Temptation, but I don't like that drama at all.
But after watching her here, i somehow agreed that she cry so naturally in which not many actress can do the same. i would say Song Hye Kyo maybe similar. For younger generation, I still cant figure who can cry naturally and beautifully like she did. For her melodramas in her golden days like Stairway to Heaven, Winter Sonata, she deserved to be crowned as a Queen of Melodrama and still deserve it until now.

I definitely sat in a daze after this episode; so much happened here. Woo-chul is still an idiot, funny one minute and annoying the next. Him tearing up the divorce papers annoys me so much, he's like a little kid. Throwing tantrums because he doesn't like what's happening. Please grow up, my dude. He and Yi-jin suffer from a narcissistic disorder, that's why they were so into each other. Yi-jin might be forever alone at this point, with Woo-chul playing "it's my toy, you can't have it" with Nora's life. Ugh.
Hyun-seok is just so... swoon-worthy. Cheating in go-stop for his dongsaeng, declaring himself as her Oppa, loving her unconditionally, confessing in such an awesome way. Gosh, and those dimples. I agree, what scales were on Nora's eyes not to notice those beautiful dimples?
Four episodes remaining. I sincerely hope for some cuteness between Nora and Hyunseok. Her flailing after their sleepover was beyond cute, I'm ready for more...

yes, when he tore that contract, i wanted to recall Min from I Remember Me, to come and finish him. ... then i think again... what important now, is finally Nora know her own hearts, contract or no contract, she knows there are no turning back, no amount of sweet talking, even if WC used MinSoo, she will not be taken in again... come to think again, she is not really "stupid" intellectually, as what WC really think, the way she argued thru calmly, using WC very own cruel words he spoken himself, and reasoned what she learned from tutorials.. and by studying night classes and secretly burn mid night oil, can pass the entrance exam... is not small deal.
she is in fact smart in her ways, just suppress and self denial trapped her into thinking she is stupid, so as long as she has release the "eagle" in herself, and soar... she can find ways to settle her divorce.

I was expecting his eventual confession to be somewhat like his outburst in episode 6...
...but I am so much happier with how he did it! I mean, that was just so freakin' perfect. Ahhhh. I don't even know what to do with myself.
I'm loving that, even though he's had his childish moments, Hyun-seok always thinks so deeply about Nora's feelings with each and every revelation he gets about her. Even though he's been terribly misguided about a lot of things along the way, he has this ability to really think about how she's feeling for whatever situation he thinks she's in. He's had some moments when he's opted to protect his own feelings and cut her off, but when he puts her first, he REALLY puts her first. And I just love him for that.

I was completely convinced that Nora's misunderstanding would take the show through its last episodes, and was so disappointed - but then Hyun Seok didn't let me down! Yay Box of Secrets!
Part of why Hyun Seok and Woo Chul have been at odds this entire time is because they're polar opposites. Each assumes the other has at least some common sentiments, but they really don't; Woo Chul saw Nora as the woman he knocked up and then he had to manage her to live up to him, and Hyun Seok was faithful to everything Nora held dear for two decades in her absence.
It's so charming that Hyun Seok just absolutely loves Nora and wants her to be okay. Saying that she should be able to go to the rice cake shop just so she could remember how someone loved her completely? Woo Chul couldn't identify that emotion if someone spelled it out for him in skywriting.

Yes, Woo Chul would never understand what unconditional love is. I wish he were a maths or physics professor instead. We don't need a psychology professor who lack genuine concern for other human beings. He should stay away from counselling, especially those trauma victims he tried so hard to get involved in.

This episode broke the 6% ratings bar and it was soooo well deserved.
The best thing about this episode, which had me pausing to replay...was not when CHa Hyun Seok confessed <3 Or when he found out the modified truth, or when he found out the real truth....
The best moment that will forever be remembered,
...is when Woo Chul fell from grace - literally.

i pitied him in I Remembered You, that psycho LJY. in fact i had a soft spot for him more than the Puppy eyed Min... then Mr Cheater Woo Chul destroyed it all, every single drop of forgiveness....
Choi Won Young indeed is very a fine actor, that he portrayed WC without reserved, knowing we will really "hate" him to our core. and also instil that sense of pity in us for Lee Joon Ho in I remember you, when we are supposed to hate him.
actually we despised Woo Chul of 20-A, more than Lee JH in IRY, even thought LJY killed so many, and WC kill nobody. agree?

I love love love that Nora straight-out diagnosed her husband with narcissistic personality disorder. It's one thing for her to realize he's a self-centered blowhard, but quite another for her to have analyzed him enough to actually think she's got a solid set of characteristics that fit him. And now everything he does, she'll see through that filter. Ha!
Hyun Seok is amazing. Every single thing that happens, he views as how it will impact Nora. Sure he's a childish lunatic stalker some of the time, but he never seems to be acting out of self-interest; in that way he's Woo Chul's opposite. It's also pretty amusing that Woo Chul immediately suspects Hyun Seok of trying to seduce Nora... because Woo Chul is so bloody self-centered that he just projects what he would do onto someone else!
I also love that Yi Jin and Nora had such a measured conversation. I'm starting to feel a little bad for Yi Jin - Hyun Seok's right, she's not a stupid woman, and she is absolutely going to catch onto Woo Chul now that the romance of a secret affair is over. Especially now that she knows he's been manipulating her for a while now.
This show is just so good. Never end, show! Never end!

"Every single thing that happens, he views as how it will impact Nora. " you said,
so right. This man understood the woman buried in his heart pretty well. Even though kept in his ‘celibacy state’ for a good 20 years mean, he doesn’t have any real relationship with any woman, yet he doesn’t need to be taught by anyone what does a woman really need. Basically, all he needs is putting himself exactly in her shoe, think selfless as what she must be feeling, and he knew immediately that all she needs is to have a solid good cry. A crystal drop slided down her cheek from her welling reddened eyes, that was enough to allow you to go back to 15 years ago, Winter Sonata era… Oppa didn’t rush down to stop her sobbing, didn’t even be present and act hero, by lending his shoulder for her to cry. Because he knew, its not about himself, what he can do… now what she need is herself to discover what she need to do, who she used to be, how much she was been loved…. Without collapsing that water barrage, she will be drown and suffocated by self-reproaches and ultimately snap under the weight of her pro-longed self-flagellation, mortification and love-less life.
Hyunsuk knew, don’t talk to her, let her cry, she needs to break down then can she be rebuild up and to rethink her life. Only when she let go of what doesn’t belong to her from the beginning then he can come in and lift her up. yet again, it’s still not for himself, that he did these. Even when he said “I should become someone she could depend on”, he still didn’t even think about benefitting him-SELF thru this, all he only thinks of is about her-SELF.

loved the way Writer wrote Hyun Suk. that he is very human, full of flaws.. very real. not like so perfect from Ep 1 to the last Ep, like those hunks in some dramas, very unrealistic.. you see his growth from ep 1 , then he learned some lesson and touched us, then he sulked again, ran away and hid from his own revelation of his own feels.. defending himself from hurts... just like every one of us...... because he was written NOT so perfect... we are even more identify with this Oppa. i rathered have someone real like him, with his ups and downs, and then finally he crossed that line after he made his confession and make up his mind, and he raised his own bar, and put on greatness. seeing his growth, is as gratifying as seeing Nora's growth.

The whole confession was not done to proof himself, to gain something finally for himself, or to make his feeling known…. Even while saying “I like you”, it’s not because he wants her to like him back.
loved it that he knew this is the crucial moment, put aside the noble idiocy that every other cheesy KD hunks will do to step asides and continue to let the ill matched couple to stay together. Neither did he dwelt too long in how much he loved her, how long he loved her, for his purpose is not to dwelt on himself, but to use his passion so deep as a testimony that she deserved to be loved, as she think she is not because she is "shallow", and to let her know, his love is not some crap "lust at first sight" like unto WC's.... she was once loved because of her characters, her spirit... she was loved as being herself. when he decided its time to reveal, he revealed without reserved, for her sake, not his. This is a KD, not swoon us, even without any kissing or real hug or hand holding, even up to ep 12, tis the simplicity that touches us. because thru their simple dialogue and flaws characters, we found ourselves in them, one of the finest characters crafting in recent years. while seeing Nora, we keep seeing ourselves, or images of her in our noonas friends, or in my aging regretting moms.... like we owe it to ourselves or our singled sister, or our regretting moms, to desire that Nora be completed with Hyun suk.

"actually don’t care about the skin ship that much" - Haha, actually this is what I meant by my comment. They're already one of my favorite couples...without any of that "romantic" stuff. And that's pretty impressive. They are so winning just as a pair of bickering high school friends going out of their way to do adorable things for each other. That's all they have to do to make me feel ridiculously giddy. In fact, that probably has to do with why I love them as a couple as much as I do :)

huh... since we are talking about "skinship", i went back to rewatched ep 1, and awaken in shock that actually (at the ep 1 scene when Nora sat eating lunch on the floor with her Ballet BFF) Nora did revealed that married couple after some years will stop having "intimacy"... which means WC doesn't really truly loved her at the beginning. what they felt for each other are just youthful adrenaline rush, or simple love of "First Sight" and not "Love"at first sight. its the Sight that both loved, not each other that both loved. so in no time, when Nora stop dancing and start "dancing" around Minsoo.... WC lost all his appeals... and doesn't even bothered to "touch" her, which poor pathetic Nora count it as "natural" for long married couple. Nora is really depraved of some genuine "skin-ship" with real love, i should say.

yeah... Bongsookie and his Youngshin has raised the bar till celestial height, for OTP shipping , that is hard for any other screen pairs to match. not just by their tons of "skin-ship" moments.. i think we all have said enough by thru that 10K comments by Healer ep 16,, why we ship Jungshin forever. hopefully , JiChangwook missed Park Min Young and become real OTP.
while Hyun-seok and Nora is different. we see ourselves in this pair. more than anything, skin or no skin, while many or some of us fans, has lost our chances whether 20 years ago,or 10 years ago, or even 3 years ago... we want Hyun and his Ra to find themselves happy ending, then we can dream on, and maybe one day, me noona or me ahjummas has mine coming.... because each of us, find some familiarity in Nora and her Hyunsuk. its a different kind of shipping OTP. CJW already has her Lee Seo Jin, which many believed are the real OTP. but we just want to find "ourselves" in Hyunsuk and Nora. because Nora is so like many of us, i just demand a Happy ending for them, so that i (or you all) can dream on and hope.....
by the way, Nora is practically already divorced, and both are very very matured adults, Hyunsuk is almost like a monk sworn in celibacy... some skinship doesn't matters, won't degrade or cheapen the already awesome show.

No worry, I think he is already plotting an escape route. He heard about a 'possible' vacancy coming up in a more prestigious univ. So YJ has become much less impt or interesting to him now, since she was a means to an end for him anyway, a springboard to get ahead as the SIL of the Chairman of the Board of Directors of that univ.

Thank you for the recap!
It's a good thing I live alone, because I find myself literally cheering out loud every time Nora calls Woo Chul out on his BS (and his subsequent flabbergasted reaction). When she told him to knock it off with the stalling and called him a narcissist, I swear I did a happy dance.
But I'm not surprised he tore up the divorce contract. Like others have said, he's like a spoiled kid who doesn't want someone else playing with his toy. So of course he'd try to weasel his way out of the divorce - he's a weasel. And a rat. And a snake. And a jackass.
But does anyone know what Nora can do if he refuses her the divorce? As the wife, does she have any options? She mentioned something last ep about going to trial. Would that apply here? Sorry I don't know much about Korean divorce proceedings.

Thank you for the recap GF! A.W.E.S.O.M.E.!!!
But WC being a narcissist, a weasel, a rat, a snake, a jackass (borrowing your words), a doesnt-play-fair-cheater, a conniving b....rd, a rude jerk, a controlling-manipulative cad (to add a few of my own)...what if he tries to steal Nora's copy of the divorce contract...huhuhu...what happens then? I just hope Nora hides the precious document well.

So true. I don't think Woo Chul ever loves No Ra. Even now that he is unwilling to let No Ra go, it is not out of love. He just does not like the idea of his possession being taken away.

I do really like how they're showing that the root of all of this is Woo Chul's controlling tendencies. His reasons for divorce (or non-divorce) shift like quicksand, but the one reliable element is that he rejects anything that he hasn't cooked up as part of some master plan.
He really is narcissistic. No wonder Nora ended up the way she did - living in isolation with that sort of personality and a baby in a foreign country would pretty much break you. There's no way that Woo Chul tried anything to make her life easier there, and was probably embarrassed having her out and about at all.
Of course, now it looks like Woo Chul may try to control everything and end up with absolutely nothing: his son's starting to rebel, his wife is determined to leave him, his girlfriend is about to get REALLY mad, he's playing fast and loose with multiple groups regarding Hyun Seok's play... This is not going to work out the way he wants.

Yi-jin is going to dump Woo-chul's ass so hard. I don't like her, but I actually think she deserves better than this. Woo-chul is going to reap what he sowed. He keeps fucking up his life one bad decision at a time.
He's going to get fired for the play stuff and probably blacklisted from all the good universities in Korea. he deserves it 100%.
I'd completely hate him if his narcissism wasn't so comical. It's his only redeeming quality.

yes, the whole 11 ep dramas is snail-crawling... but this 12 ep, redeem herself, and gave us double or triple shares of what we are depraved of... like i said, in all dramas, beside those kisisng scenes.. what stayed in my mind for the whole week till the following weeks, what sustain me while i wait for the weekly blessings.. are dwelling on those moments when a OTP first realised her /his affection has crossed the dangerous line, and the "goosh, i did loved him" moments. CJW is splendid, at age 40, still can portrayed that innocent sweet ripple moments when her heart stirred, it felt like a First Love feels.
CJW, how did you do that? as if Choi Ji Woo herself really thump her hearts for Lee Sang yoon. so real.

SQUEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!
:P hahaha...needed to get that out!!~
This ep has me absolutely giddy, like no other show has in quite some time. The feels alone make me so freakin' happy!!! :PPPP Such an absolute delight to watch, and I keep falling deeper and deeper into love with this drama. It's hard to put it into words besides maniac-like giddyness (haha) but seriously, I LOVE THIS!!
I'm SO SO glad that they've realized their feelings for each other, and all the revelations--finally people know what they need to know. Finallyyy Hyun-seok knows about the impending divorce (and seeing Woo-chul going nuts adding the karma-riffic cherry on top) -- although I was a bit miffed that it was Yi-jin being the one telling him her warped version of the story. Girlfriday couldn't have said this better: "There’s also a huge satisfaction in seeing Nora so calm and poised and above it all when she confronts Yi-jin and tells her to keep Woo-chul, like he’s leftovers that she’s done with now." You gooo, No-ra!! Putting her in her place, after she was defending herself to Hyun-seok that she was not an adulterer. Yeah...you were. You tried and convinced yourself that -- see where that got ya. Believing everything Woo-chul said about his wife and their marriage, along with the lies he tells? Yeah...that's what you get. I don't feel sorry for her at all.
It's been absolutely cute to see No-ra realizing her feelings for Hyun-seok (how could you not?!) and I'm in disbelief she didn't notice his dimples earlier. !!!! Hee hee :P Even if he's grumpy and jerky and cranky, I want a Hyun-seok of my own...besides his squee-rific amazing dimples and smile (Swoooon) -- he does everything to make No-ra be at her best, and help her re-discover herself as The Real No-ra, who shines like a diamond. After becoming a young mother and being stuck in a loveless marriage with a narcissistic delusional egomaniac for 2 decades, nothing else could be better.
In addition, I am loving Min-soo more and more. I loved it when he demanded Woo-chul to pay for Mom's tuition because it was his fault that she couldn't go to college when she normally should have...now his eyes are finally completely opened to the reality that dear old dad was the reason why he saw Mom in the way that he had. And I found it hilarious that someone like Hyun-seok, who has been hung up on No-ra for 2 whole decades, giving out relationship advice to Min-soo and Hye-mi. Ha...if they only knew!!! :P

The relationship advice is funny. I think Hyeon-seok means himself too when he says at the end of the scene, "It's difficult."
In one of the early scenes with Hyeon-seok and Sang-ye, she says something about how he is when he's dating someone. Though there isn't much emphasis on it, he hasn't been alone for twenty years. The other attempts didn't work out because he couldn't shake off memory and longing.

When Woo-chul ripped up the divorce papers . . . I wanted to scream. I will be sorely disappointed in No-ra as well as the drama if she misguidedly decides to give him another chance just b/c he's Min-so's dad and her husband. He's been a pretty s&@tty husband all this time and even though
I am usually very pro saving a marriage, in this case I hope she moves on w/o him.
As for Yi-Jin, I've never felt sorry for her. He's a married man and I don't really care what he said to her, when you play w/fire you're bound to get burned.

You do!? I don't understand it. My assessment of her relationship w/Woo-chul is that he was married when they met. When they met, he had no intention of getting a divorce even though he clearly didn't care for No-ra. But once his relationship developed w/Yi-Jin he decided to divorce No-ra. So whatever may have happened later to justify her believing the things Woo-chul told her (such as him saying he didn't love his wife and perhaps showing her the divorce agreement), that doesn't change the fact that he was an unprincipled man who began an improper relationship with her and she shouldn't have trusted him.
Do you understand her b/c (ignoring the beginning of their relationship), it seemed like she was justified in believing him?

"... that doesn't change the fact that he was an unprincipled man who began an improper relationship with her..."
No doubt about that.
"...and she shouldn’t have trusted him..."
No, she shouldn't, if she had known better. The writers seem to have drawn her as a naive type living in an ivory tower, an ether world of her own creation. So she Erroneously trusted him, ultimately to her own detriment, and initially to Nora's. But as we've seen, that marriage has been unhealthy for many years prior. WC's wanting out gives or forces upon Nora the impetus to move on and survive w/o him.
In no way is YJ right. Only in the context of this story, she isn't painted as a totally evil home wrecker breaking up an otherwise enviable marriage as those in melos.

I don't even get the background of their love story. It is hilarious, yes, what is with crying over a painting and a guy just swoop over to save you from falling and you talk about art and psychology for hours.... It seems abstract from outside (because they got to know each other through art) but i found their starting point to be really childish and superficial. They have never got to know each other real side and seem to only know each other as 'knowledgeable creatures', just like how they got to know each other at first. Yijin has always kept her cool when she face others, including Woo Chul, but we know that she is always anxious about her relationships and is always lying to protect her pride. Woo Chul lies as much, or even more, and he is worse - he is very narcissist and is very not gentlemanly in the way he handle things (e.g. bulging into HS's office without even knocking, or knocking furiously and ordering HS to come out now). This is a side YJ never got to see as he always act all-mighty and 'gentlemanly' around her.

True. Neither of them know the real versions of each other. Even if Woo-chul turned out to be serious about leaving No-ra for Yi-Jin, I think their relationship would have been doomed. They both put on an act in their relationships and that may work while they're secretly dating, but the facade would have disappeared once they lived together.
I was particularly struck by a Woo-chul's being so surprised that Yi-Jin could be pushy w/him--asking if she was always this type of woman. Not only did it show how they don't know each other well, but it should have been a huge red flag for her of his attitude toward women.

Yeah! I think WC and YJ are getting a hang of each other's real version. WC is increasingly getting impatient of YJ, and YJ is increasingly suspicious of WC's feelings for her. I think WC loves the title 'chairman son-in-law' more than YJ herself, which is very sad.
The funny thing is that I can't get myself to hate these 2. I only find them pitiful and hilarious. Why must people live like that tsk.

Now that Yi Jin is past the Secret Affair stage and is realizing that she's exposed to multiple parties, I think her role will get more interesting. When it was a secret it was fun, but now she's getting a sense of Nora's Woo Chul - a self-important blowhard who tries to control every situation. "This kind of woman" indeed...
And yay Min Soo, by the way! I don't think he realized Woo Chul would fly over to the convenience store and try to control Nora again, but he definitely connected the correct dots and realized that his father was withholding money from his mom. Good for him for immediately going to the root of the problem - and I wonder if he's starting to realize that his father's controlling tendencies are actually excessive?

The award for the biggest DOUCHEBAG in history goes to...WOO CHUL!!!!!
Can he be anymore annoying!!? I suspect he will even out do himself in the next three episodes. Hopefully by episode sixteen he has gotten a brain cell and finally realizes everything isn't about his ASS!
UGH!@
But I absolutely ADORED Nora kicking ass and taking names in this episode. It has got to be the BEST one so far.
Her scenes with both Woo Chul and Yi jin were beyond hilarious and so on point! Loved how she was all cool, calm, and collected. Especially when she laid it ALL out to Yi jin. I bet she felt all kinds of stupid realizing how Woo chul has been lying to her. I predict their so called relationship will be over by episode 14.
And truer words could not have been spoken when she told Woo Chul he suffers from narcissistic personality disorder and thinks EVERYTHING is always about his ass!
Which he totally proved by going to Hyun seok and showing his behind and also showing his whole hand! Loved that Hyun seok FINALLY knows the whole truth and can now go after what he really wants.
I wasn't surprised in the least that woo chul's douchebag behind tore up the divorce papers. But for someone who claims to be so smart, newsflash loser! I'm pretty sure Nora has her own copy and they should also have the original copy at the court house.
Nora and Hyun seok deserve some happiness and I hope we start seeing more of it in the next couple of episodes.
I predict Woo Chul is going to end up alone and with NOTHING! And he will totally deserve it.

I am so happy there is no going back to Woo-chul. The last 4 episodes won't be Nora with a ping-pong heart. There will be tension as she continues to extract herself from her husband. He won't go easily, but now she has Hyun seok to confide in.
Also glad that Hyun seok won't continue to try to push Nora back into Woo-chul's arms. That was becoming annoying.
Yi-jin will indeed dump Woo-chul. She does not bother me. My feelings are neutral toward her. She too has been duped by Woo-chul. Her father may eventually bring the hammer down on Woo-chul for toying with his daughter. That would be enjoyable to watch.
Min-soo has redeemed himself in my eyes. He's trying to be a good son as well as a good boyfriend. His father has toppled off his pedestal.
Woo-chul will catch the Min-soo with his girlfriend and use the threat of sending Min-soo off to the army as a way to manipulate Nora out of school, cancelling the divorce and breaking off with Hyun seok.

I'm glad every thing is out in the open..the cards are on the table..Loved this episode!
Yi Jin is suppose to be a smart woman, but she is deluding herself that she played no part in No Ra's divorce. She has been playing hanky panky with No Ra's husband since 2011.. Also, Woo Chul can't call No Ra ignorant anymore. She told him to cut the crap, and said he had a narcissistic personality disorder. Clap for No Ra! The problem has always been Woo Chul's non-communication and arrogance instead of placing the blame on No Ra's intelligence.
I hope she stops getting pushed around especially when Woo Chul tore up the contract. She needs to consult with a smart divorce attorney, go to court, and get plenty of alimony for being married to a jerk for twenty years.

I love this show! Girlfriday, you're right this is a fantasy drama at its best! This is the best episode!
Poor/lucky Hyun-seok gets to find out sooo many things in this episode! First he found out No Ra and Woo Chul has been separated for years. Although not through a reliable source, but at least he knows that those two were never in a loving marriage. Then, when Woo Chul was screaming at him that No Ra wanted a divorce. Omg, Hyun-seok's face so amazing! I was squeeeeee-ing so loud. Yessssss!
Ha No Ra is officially my favorite heroine. She just calmly confronts all these annoying people. No tears, no tantrum. Very calmly she just tells it as it is. "You can have Kim woo chul" best delivery of line ever. It's her tone and the way she said it, it is sooooo satisfying.
On top of that, Hyun-seok gave her the box at the end of the episode! i can't squeeeee enoughhhhhhh. He didn't give it so he can have her, he just gave it to her so that she can remember how awesome she is and she has touched his life when they were younger, that she is someone that deserve such love and devotion. Cha Hyun Seok, you are an amazing man!

Awesome!!!! Just fantastically and wonderfully awesome!
I mean both the recap ... thanks GF! And the show!
Everything is done just right! Every step is in place and at the right pace, every loose thread picked up... we even have Hyun Seok and Seung Hyun seeing to her home ... a minor side story that is not forgotten... and we gain knowledge of her awareness of his feelings.
I applauded how Woo Chul's lies kept coming back to bite him over and over and how he just dug his own grave over and over as well. No one had to destroy him, he did it all himself!!! Not fair that he can probably get to go to the next University and not lose his status. Yeah, I'm being mean! He ought to suffer!!!!!
I loved Min Soo's reaction to seeing his mum in the convenience store, how he no longer shows deference towards his father but tackled him head on, and how No Ra does not beat about the bush but confronts Woo Chul immediately as well.
And best of all is Hyun Suk! What a friend... how honest he was as he spoke to Sang Ye about what he should have been to No Ra, how true was he to his word and how he put No Ra first many times, what great advice to give the young couple (it's true btw!), how great that he did not delay doing everything to right the misunderstanding and what a brave and 'trusting' step he took to give No Ra his memories.
I'm trying to recall ever knowing another kdrama character who deserves our love and adulation as much as Hyun Suk. There might be others, but I recall them not. I only know that this is one of the best kdrama male leads I've ever come across in aeons!!!

It was so disgustingly selfish that Woo Chul considered with shock that someone could genuinely care for No Ra, without any ulterior motives, and that knowing that, he could not let No Ra enjoy that regard (or let Hyun Suk 'win'), but that he had to keep No Ra back by tearing up the divorce contract. That is the meanness of sour grapes to the core.

She will soon knows that he is thinking of transfering to another university. I bet the project that he is secretly doing to challenge Hyun-suk will be ruined too. Maybe, maybe the German professor whom he is relying on fot the project's success is actually a fan or friend of Hyun-suk and the latter helps Hyun Suk's "you & now" project instead. Who knows :)

And Thank Ye Drama Gods for FINALLY letting everyone get on the same page!! (Except Woo Chul who seems to warp everything.) I'm sad that No Ra will probably have a fight on her hands with the divorce. Woo Chul doesnt seem to want the divorce in the grounds that what is "his" should not be taken away by another man. UGH. I felt sick when his first reaction to her plainly telling him to stop playing games was that Hyun Seok had coached her. A woman can have her own thoughts!!
Anywho, I hope No Ra can be honest about her feelins for Hyun Seok too. I literally had a happy fit when Yi Jin told Hyun Seok about the divorce. I don't think Woo Chul even deserves her...

No Ra bursting Yi Jin's little bubble by saying "You can have him" was priceless. Yi Jin seems to take way too much pride in knowing that No Ra (as far as she knew) is clinging on to Woo Chul and Woo Chul still wants to be with Yi Jin. I wouldn't be surprised if Yi Jin starts losing interest in Woo Chul.

I believe Woo-chul has been very cold to his wife long before he met Yi-jin. He sees her as a ignorant housewife from the fact that he handled his son's tuition and education matters, which Hye-mi pointed out that these are normally taken care of by moms instead of dads.
Woo-chul is ambitious to climb the corporate ladder, hence he saw and grabbed the chance to marry Yi-jin so as to become the university chairman's son-in-law.
For No-ra, I think it's not wrong to say that she tried hanging on to Woo-chul even after signing the contract to agree to divorce by a stated time. She studied secretly to enter university to be able to communicate with her husband on same level. She even suggested to Woo-chul that they can just remain married and he can be free to do what he wants. The turning point were her re-union with Hyun-suk in WCU, the terminal cancer she thot she had and the concept of "dying well" she heard from Hyun-suk over the radio. From there on, she starts to rediscover herself and starts to want to live for herself. Only then she has the courage to think about living her life without her universe and able to tell Woo-chul "let's go to court now to file our divorce".

Yep. This is k-drama and there will never be a guy like Hyun-seok in real life. Seriously, if I end up living with a dozen cats instead of a husband in the future, it's k-drama's fault.

If I was a teenager now, I know I'd flung out of college, or fail to enter to begin w, fail to date cos guys don't look like our biases, or behave like those in KDs, and end up living w a dozen cats too!

As much as I loved everything else in this episode, I am annoyed that Nora quit the dance club. I get where she is coming from, that there is a time and a place for everything, and that her chance to be a professional dancer has long since come and gone, but, but, that doesn't mean she can't dance at all. She so obviously loved it. It's OK to do things we love even if we will never be professionals. I really hope she sees that, and continues dancing anyway.

Thank you! I was about to write this comment. It was such a great episode all around, but where in the world did she get the idea that she shouldn't be dancing for fun? I don't know why this should have anything to do with her realizing she can never dream about doing it professionally.
It just bothers me because it feels like it's going against everything the drama is saying, that it doesn't matter what age you are when you're doing the things you love.
I hope she at least takes this time to discover a new dream and go after it.

I think giving up the dance club had more to with her finding work to pay for her tuition, and that was more important to achieve then being in the dance club.

I'd really like for her to somehow be in Hyun Suk's production and be able to dance in a scene and to have Yoon Young and Dong Chul and Min Soo in the audience. :)
