Injo and Maid Jo make the perfect pair, Pyscho Couple. He does gets his just desserts later. I remember Injo was the King who had to kowtow to Hong Taiiji.
Kim Jae Won used to play the nice leads. I've haven't seen him in dramas lately. He has gotten really thin, lost his baby face looks, and acts really well as a schizoid ruler. Just love his crazed glare at poor sweet Lee Yeon Hee.
Don't know what happens to Maid Jo, but I like the actress, Kim Min Seo, who plays the villianess. Can't wait to see how this pair ends up in this drama.
I miss Cha Seung Won...hopes he does another drama soon.

so, ok, like, writing down my thoughts while the bread is baking, watch the time. stay alert.

you know, the biggest news is there is a local noona romance boiling in Estonia (is it right from me to spread the tabloid gossip like this? It is not, but who cares!) and that envolves our ex-first lady. Apparently she found herself a simple harmonica player sweetheart who is just ...how old was he now. 31. and she is 47. Age gap 16 years. ooh, it would spice up the noona romances by a notch if it was the First Lady, right?

Then, I am slowly catching up on dramas, and Oh My Ghostess steals the cake. It is so adowabubble. I like the group acting here, too, the foursome of assistant cooks is so much alive. all their jokes and bickering and hard work reminds me of my colleagues. what irks me a little though, is blaming peoples´bad behavior on evil spirits. it is another attempt to deny responsibility. nope. people make every decision inside themselves. if you are not hypnotized - and that´s something I don´t really believe in - you cannot become a puppet to anything. or maybe it is just that I have a hard time imagining being controlled, since no one has managed to control me (or my mouth) so far.
but despite that, OMG is the first time after KMHM I actually devour a drama and can´t wait for the next episode.
I Remember You is a different class and style and I am approaching it in a very unrushed, serious way. I dont want to just devour it. I want to understand the meaning behind every little thing. I am willing to wait with it, since I want to be sure... that sounds like I am in a relationship with the drama or something.

so it is like OMG is drama fast food, IRY is gourmet.
Scholar is kind of... become a pure visual drama. eating with your eyes, but not really filling your stomach. oh, just a moment, the bread.

in IRM, I love that Ji An isn´t all "otoke! what should I do?"have to rely on a man to decide stuff!" she doesn´t even nudge making decisions on the push of a button
and really one of the best bromances. Seo In Gook is losing himself in his role more and more each episode. it is like he isn´t even acting any more. I get a feeling he is an actor who has a childs ability to "play" with such passion that play becomes real. ´boys do love playing alter ego games...

QUESTION: if you were a child right now... which character would be the most fun to play, which alter ego most tempting to assume? be it movies, dramas, mangas, webtoons... and would your version of the character differ greatly from the "original"?
and what if you get lost in the "play" way too far... did you use to? or not? ever witnessed a situation like that?

Hi redfox!! Long time no reading each other :) (my fault, hasn't been in OT for a while).

I think I'd wanna be...the best friend in Discoveries Of Romance (played by Kim Seul Gi), except that all I'll do is beat the heroine's head for being such a wishy washy person. That would make me a non best friend, it seems like...but heck, it's my role play, right?

Happy Weekend everyone!!

Wait. Maybe not for me. Examinations's right around the corner. And I should probably study. Probably.

*SPOILERS AHEAD. PROBABLY*

The Genius - I miss Sangmin and his awesome reversals. Too bad, DM's are his kryptonite. And too bad my faves are leaving one by one. But I'm glad Kyungran managed to win though I'm sad YH lost. I had flashbacks of Sangmin and Jinho's DM's. SM thought that it would be a shame to lose against KH. YH thought the same(he's a pro after all) and no one can blame him. But it wasn't just luck. YH was wrong in betting inconsistently. He failed to follow his own advice. And Jungmoon.......I can understand her but I've got no sympathy for her. Betrayal is part of TG but how can you just do it in a second. I can't even. YH did wrong too, practically shouting out "I'm a rebel" though it was a last resort in an effort to help his team. KR made a mistake too, failing to convince King Dongmin. She was too loyal and thought like a rebel(ironic, huh?). But she at least tried to convince the others and they did believe in her except DM. Not that it would change a thing ofc. But who can blame her? She was locked up the whole time and knew nothing. It may be my bias speaking but I disagree with others when they say she was the same as JM in the last minutes(after confirming the betrayal). Did anyone expect her to say, "Oh. Jungmoon told you. I guess that's it. I was lying all the while." I don't hate JM. But I'm sad another fave left this week instead of her. Is the curse with S3 now? Oh well, I should probably stop spoiling myself.

Love Shuffle - Refreshing show albeit a bit predictable. I was so surprised when I found out Matsuda Shota/O-chan(not sure with the name) is the same guy playing Akiyama in LG. I want to watch it but......time!!

Healer - I put it on halt after ep 16. So afraid I'd be lost after watching.

To Watch list: I Remember You, Oh My Ghostess, Yongpal, Sora Kara Fukichi..., 9 End 2 Outs, Dalja's Spring, Que Sera Sera, etc etc

I just need to reply to you once i see love shuffle. Yes, it was sort of predictable but its so refreshing to get into jdramas when you have already watched tons of kdramas. The way they depict romance is always different too.

I'm currently watching Soratobu Kouhoushitsu. Jdramas are really good with the slice of life thing.

Yongpal is off to a really good start though i cringe at the editing part. Especially the KTH part of the show, it's not easy to be un-judgmental when you just got out of watching IRY.

All i can say is Dalja's Spring is still the best 30's romance cross over with a bit slice of life, and awesome heroine to boot. Well guess that's the same as IRY. They both have awesome heroine. Enjoy your watching experience!

Ah, Soratobu Kouhoushitsu. One of those underwatched, underrated dramas. Yes, one of those "pick a random profession and let's do a serial" dramas, but I'm quite fond of this one. It's interesting, Ayano Gou is brilliant in it (he alway is – he's the sort of quality actor I'd wish we'd get in more k-dramas but then again he's mostly a film actor) and some of the side characters are adorable (I was really fond of their office boss with his little quirks).

I think it did quite well in Japan though. I mean it doesn't have spectacular rating, still it's not below 10% either but i totally agreed about how underrated the drama is. I think it deserves more hype.

I'm dying for good Japanese dramas. I think i'm alternating Jdramas and Kdramas to make sure i don't get sick of any. I can't seem to find anything that can beat Love Shuffle out yet in terms of romance. And i'm not saying the typical one, the refreshing type. The drama made me lol-ed so much with the especially their first meet up in the lift haha.

I have no idea how it did in Japan, but on drama forums it seems to be one of those not-so-commonly watched ones.

I just started out Jdramas in 2013. Most romance dramas i have watched is purely from Kimu Taku ones, Pride is one of my personal favourite. If you called 1 litre of tears a romance drama.. then that one too. Oh, Rich Man Poor Woman, Tatta Hitotsu No Koi (It sort of a meh for me for some reason), both Hotaru no Hikari, Buzzer Beat and stop Kyou Wa Kaisha halfway.

I think i'm pretty much an open book. Any romance drama will do. I turn to Jdramas for something refreshing that can get me out from this Kdramas dungeon. So i'm open to suggestion. I'm putting a halt on serious dramas, just starting my holiday so i'm in for some fun LOL.

0

Hmmm. Okay, for romances....

Fun, light ones:
-Have you seen "Date"? This one aired recently only and has cult quality.
-Slow Dance
-Osozaki no Himawari. (This one falls into a similar category as Soratobu Kouhoushitsu.)

Serious ones (meaning, romance isn't always the focus and a lot of other issues are dealt with):
-Arifureta Kiseki (of my favourite dramas ever. With the amazing KASE RYO. Deals with issues like depression, suicide, loneliness)
-Nagareboshi (the romance is very subtle but it's a perfect pairing; deals with all kinds of social and family issues as well as some medical ethics)
-Soredemo, Ikite Yuku (again, romance is not at the forefront of this one, it's this almost invisible thread that still makes one of the most compelling pairings; central issue is two families getting over a murder)
-Hours of My Life (the one drama where Haruma Miura shows his acting skills; issue: serious disease)
-Smile (the one with Matsujun, in his best role; issue: racial discrimination in Japan as a Hafu)
–Rondo (crime-thriller romance sort of thing) – this is actually a Korean-Japanese co-production

The quirky ones (romances of the very unusual kind):
-Kimi wa Petto
-Nodame Cantabile
-Hana Kimi

Classic:
You already watched Pride, how about Long Vacation?

0

I watched a few of the one you listed above. I was quite reluctant on starting Long Vacation purely because it's from way back then though it has the same heroine that plays Kimu Taku paralegal in Hero. I watched the first two episodes of Date and stopped because it haven't finished. It totally out of my radar because i've been so busy with assignments and stuff.

Will definitely check your listed dramas out. Thank you for taking your time to share those amazing list. :)

0

Long Vacation is one of the best friends-to-lovers dramas. I almost dropped it after the first episode (the hardest one to get through), but it's worth it.

Date is definitely worth going back to. (All subbed now.)

0

I was just scrolling through the comments and my eyes caught Soratobu Kouhoushitsu! I'm amazed at myself but maybe because this is one of the ultimate fave jdramas ever! I mean it didn't really focus on the romance as per jdrama but the stories just really touch you in every way possible! Same with Tonbi too hihihi

And i thought Soratobu Kouhoushitsu didn't get enough international love. Seemed to have quite an audience over here.

Jdramas are great at the slice of life thingy which i personally feel was lacking here in kdramas. So it's a great gateaway. Always managed to make you feel somewhat inspired after watching it.

0

That's the beauty of Jdramas hihi I tend to jump to jdrama if I needed some slice of life wisdom hihi then go back to kdramas for some romance hihi

Haven't found any good jdramas for this season so I'm on the kdrama ship these days haha

one of my favorites is saikou no rikon. the cast and the scriptwriter are both brilliant. his other work from last season, mondai no aru restaurant, was also very good. it dealt with gender issues in a way that made it hard to believe sometimes that a middle-aged man was writing the script. his long lines are usually the best. you should definitely check it out^^

I love Love Shuffle! Ahh, it has its flaws (and a few characters that I wasn't too fond of) but the pyjama parties! The panda jokes! Ahhh, and Matsuda Shota in one of his better roles – mesmerising with his total bad boy persona.

I actually didn't think it was that predictable, and the premise was really completely insane, in a good way.

Hey guys I actually started watching Soratobu Kouhoushitsu after reading your comments and it indeed is pretty good. I think im into J-dramas now which i think are more realistic compared to K-dramas maybe lol. So can you guys suggest me top three J-dramas of any genre?

0

Required fields are marked *

I just finished watching Long Vacation after reading the comments above and absolutely love it. It's a 1996 J-drama so the styling is dated and the editing/music is sometimes off, but the story telling, acting and character development definitely stand the test of time. The recent K-dramas are emotionally mind numbing and the conflicts are superficial, which makes everything about Long Vacation that much more refreshing. You'll be hooked by the end of the second episode.

Too bad i just noticed your comment well if you like Soratobu Kouhoushitsu, you should try Osozaki no Himawari as what @alua said. It's pretty good.

Japanese dramas in general need some getting use to since they have pretty slapstick comic stuff going on but it's still a good watching experience. Try out Pride for romance and Love Shuffle (pretty funny)

I'm working on a "medical thriller catastrophe" k-toon. I haven't cast the leads (or the villains) yet. I want to go against type. Who should be the male and female protagonists. And what Korean actors (actresses) are universally loved (and so, should be my villains?)

Well, I wonder... would Park Shin Hye be a convincing villain?. nah... but she could be a sabotaging hero somewhat?

oh but then, Ninja Teacher has never been a villain, has he? With his skills, he would make a scary antagonist. I would actually like to see him go dark. like. crazy ninja scientist and poison expert on a path of revenge? instead of saving people, he makes sure they don´t escape
Ji Sung would also look good as a villain. or they could be rivalling villains whose different revenge plot clash and neutralize each other as an irony

and as a hero, Shin Sung Rok & someone who usually plays crazy mother .. ohh or wait. I hate that Kim Yoo Ri is always cast as a crazy bitch. Time for her to play something different, eh?

Required fields are marked *

No.. no please no PSH as a villain. I can't see she pulling it off. Personally i think she needs to grow as an actress some more. For some eerie reason, i'm imagining her to be ala 'Kim Tae Hee' as she tries to be a villain. *shudders

Have kdrama land has any great female villain? I keep getting awesome male villain but nay to female? Why.. because of the archetype writing? It will be awesome to have some great female villain that you can actually not 'wholesomely' hate her.

Mi-sil (Queen Senduk) is the best villain ever in K dramas IMO. I mean, anyone who has a husband and a lover in her pack of minions, and they both know about her "relations" with the other one--and who dumps her baby with the king, (Bidam) when he's not advantages to her any longer. Oh yeah, Ko Hyun-Jung is the best at being bad!

Required fields are marked *

Oh my, how can i forgot about Mi-Shil? You got to applaud people killing the role by playing bad characters like Ko Hyun-Jung. Indeed an excellent and iconic portrayal.

0

Wag_a_Muffin -

Mi-sil! ..... She was certainly a standout in a drama that had quite a few.

Certainly one to remember.

0

I love Misil too! She's right up there with Jo Pil-yeon from Giant on my best baddies of all time list.

Anyway, as far as female villains...I don't want to spoil anything for people who haven't seen it but I'd suggest checking out Conspiracy in the Court, where all the female characters are pretty twisted. Other than that, all of Jung Ha-yeon's dramas feature fantastic female characters, and a lot of them are pretty dark, if not outright bad guys. Empress Ki in Shin Don is a little sympathetic but overall a great bad guy (but then I found Misil sympathetic too, ymmv). Yoon Na-young and Nam Ae-ri were terrible people and very dark characters in Flames of Ambition, and so was Jo Gui-in in Cruel Palace, but things are kind of flipped on their head because the story was told from their point of view. I actually always wished Queen Seon Deok had been told from Misil's point of view--that would have rocked.

I really enjoyed her character in Royal Tailor a lot and her chemistry with Go Soo was unbelievable.

Go Soo I felt did not make a believable villain in Empire of Gold,... well the little I saw anyway. He has the wrong look on the whole.

I certainly miss Bae Doona. I think i need to catch up with watching 'A Girl at My Door' sometime later.

0

Thanks everyone (so far.) I'm off to search photos and bios about all these people.

AND Has Joo Won ever played a villain? (I know he was bad at first in Bridal Mask, but he ended up the hero.)

0

Oh yes, I saw Someday, I liked it very much... until it became unnecessarily melodramatic towards the end. Still would recommend. I loved Lee Jin Wook in it, but haven't really liked him in anything since then, strangely.

0

Well, the main problem in Someday is the male second lead. He was a total creep and I could have done completely without him (or him just being like the female second lead, who defied the stereotypical love rival role and just acting like normal human beings with an unrequited crush do).

I like LJW in Someday and in Nine. Have not managed to get through anything else he is in.

0

You ask for a bad Joo Won? LOL go for Baker Kim Tak Goo then. I think he plays the villain there and Yoon Shi Yoon is the male lead. I'm not sure cause i never really watch it. It's not exactly my cup of tea.

I can't remember her ever playing a sympathetic character--except that she was SO LIKEABLE on Running Man. I'm still searching and getting ideas for this toon. (And I have to draw Man Soo turning into a bat and saving Moon Geun Young from being beaten up by Lee Joo Guk for the last episode of my current one--so I don't know when I'll get to actually working on this medical thriller. But thanks for all your suggestions and I'll check back later and see if there's more good stuff.

My Beautiful Bride - the workout. Gah ~

I Remember You - the birthday present, my heart aches. It is distressing to see the ripple effects of a psychopath

The Genius 4- I am coming back around to Kyunghoon, and I am rooting for Hyunmin to make it all the way

Yong Pal - exciting first episode, has potential

Last it's okay, gotta be in the mood, though, to watch it

Human Condition - did you notice how different the dynamics were without Chef Choi last week? Everyone was way more relaxed...

Infinity Challenge - I love love love the teams, especially Kwanghee, Gdragon and Taeyang, and HaHa and Zion T. Hyukoh - very cool band. I'm all for IU's influence in the end for acoustic, although it looks like EDM might prevail.

King of Mask Singer - picked this show up last week thanks to Waiting's suggestion, and really like it. Wow, a score of 49 to 50 for a winner - close and exciting!

I can't believe I am saying this, but the Happy Together format with the chef and guests is the most boring set up they've had. I think. Go back to the sauna/late night cafeteria combo, please!

Not sure Mr.s Cop will cut it for me, after Secret Love Affair (now there's a good rewatch, for those of you who are wanting one)

Summer harvest - tomatoes, cucumbers, and zucchini galore! I love going out each morning and picking the vegetables. Veggies sauteed in olive oil with mint and basil is fragrant and scrumptious~must enjoy it while it lasts!

have a great weekend, all! \/

Haunters: So he's basically Professor X walking different path. I like KDW's performance, not so much for Go Soo. Bet the extras they used are actually dancers. They got killer synergy.
Jeon Woo Chi: Can't stop laughing at the CG. It's not really my cup of tea, but highly entertaining.
Temptation of Wolves: I didn't really enjoy it.
Have yet to watch Secret Reunion and Kundo. Hope I'll have the time.
Just recently realized KDW has more Japanese looks than Korean. His face is unique. And now I got why people keep comparing Joo Won (and some other male celebs) to him. They can easily be passed as brothers. Especially in My Brilliant Life. Basically, he got the smile of Joo Won. Eyes of Jung Joon Young. Voice of Park Yoochun. But well, he's the oldest among them so let's just say he's the original.
Talking about Joo Won, Yong Pal sure has the best ratings in primetime drama after a while. And it's just in 2 episodes. Can't say I love it yet, but it's okay enough for me to continue.
Have a great weekend, beanies!

Hi Everyone!

I hope you are all doing well today. ....... To those of you who attended KCON, I hope a great time was had by all!

Watched this week:

Mask - Almost done. I still have 4 more episodes to watch!

I Remember You - Simply great acting all-around by the principal players. Specifically Park Bo-gum. ....... Right now, this is the show I really look forward to every week.

The Time I've Loved You - Decided to watch a little more of this. ...... Seriously, what keeps Won so petrified?

Hwajeong - Watching in bits and pieces. ...... I'm finally up to the part where Kim Jae-won makes his appearance.

Assembly - Couldn't make it through more than 4 minutes of this, unfortunately. Perhaps there's nothing wrong with the show, but we just didn't click.

That's it for now. ....... Take care everyone and have a great Friday!

Assembly should/could have been far better. The writer actually served as some kind of Assembly official for 10 years, and seems to be good at portraying the inner workings. But big fail on actually making the characters someone I care about.

The hero to me just comes across as naive and stupid, the heroine female aide comes across as the worst aide ever - being about as honest as ... well, a politician.

Assembly is heavy on politics like Daemul. It's easier to appreciate the writings if you are familiar with the current politics in Korea. I love it but had to put it on hold till it's over.

I tried to like Assembly, but Jung Jae Young who has done some really good roles in movies comes off like a naive idiot. Everything he tries goes awry or backstabbing him by his aides. Why does he look like he needs to go out play in the sun? His makeup is terrible.. always looks white and pasty..
I liked Song Young Ah, but her character drives me nuts. She wants a nomination so bad so you wonder if she is really helping him out or hindering him? Taecyeon still can't act out of a paper bag. He looks nice, but is his wooden self...If if doesn't start to get more interesting, I'm dropping it.

Hello everyone!
I'm sure this has probably been asked before but I thought I might just ask again. If you had to pick one or a few dramas that were your ULTIMATE favorites which would they be? You'd give these a 10/10 and they just have a place in your heart.
Mine would definitely be Misaeng and The King 2 Hearts

OMG GAKISTAL! Definitely a roller coaster of emotions with that one. I can't believe it's already been 3 years since I anxiously waited for episodes & subs to come out! I had only watched a few dramas then, that were mainly typical romcoms, but Gakistal's refreshing & thrilling plot def hooked me. Additionally, Gakistal was my first exposure to Joo Won who did AMAZINGGG. (Glad to see him back in Yong Pal, I'm excited to see what this drama has to offer :)

I cannot tell which of my favourites I love more, but here they go:
A Gentleman's Dignity because it is super charming and has Jang Dong Gun dancing in his bathrobe ;),
King of Dramas because you need to consider what Anthony would do,
I'm Sorry I Love You - I just love it and I am not sorry!,
Padam Padam - a drama which is both super human and superhuman,
Sang Doo Let's Go to School! - one of the first dramas I watched, I am still impressed.

My choices are a little out there, please don't judge me Lol.

I'm a big fan of Kim Eun-sook and I've seen all of her dramas except On Air and South of the Sun. Heirs is my favourite, then Lovers In Paris. I think the only one of her dramas I've disliked is Lovers. The only saving grace in that drama was Kim Nam-gil.

My favourite Sageuk is Warrior Baek Dong-soo and then Empress Ki. Both with Ji Chang-wook. Coincidence? I think not. Lol. I loved Faith too, and bar none, Choi Young is my favourite character Lee Min-ho has ever played.

My favourite melodramas are Secret, Angel Eyes, I Miss You (God I love this drama so much), Can You Hear My Heart.

Favourite romances: It's Okay It's Love (does it count?), Secret Garden, Coffee Prince, Greatest Love (the only Hong Sisters' drama that didn't make me want to punch somebody in the face), You Who Came From The Stars, Queen In-hyun's Man.

Favourite Action(ish) dramas: City Hunter, Healer (cause Ji Chang-wook), A Man Called god (my first Korean drama).

Favourite Thriller: Liar Game.

Favourite Supernatural drama: I can only think of Arang and The Magistrate. Oh wait, there's My Girlfriend is a Gumiho too.

Or the ones where the only character you like dies. Or the ones where you (the viewer) are all ???? when they finish.) But History of a Salaryman has a super ending. And I love the whole show. (And I love the music. Confession: I still sing, "rat-tah-tah" when I'm by myself.)

Hi Everyone and Good OT Time to You!

It's a super, duper long weekend public holiday for us in Singapore this weekend. We're celebrating the 50th anniversary of our independence (actual date 9th August 1965). I'm thinking of this time as part-National Day and part-Thanksgiving Day celebrations. :) It's been a relatively great half century, with lots to be thankful for. I'd like to wish all fellow Singaporeans a very Happy, Healthy National Day! And may the many good things continue to grow! :)

....
Currently Watching ...
I Remember You - 'Bestest' of the best so far for me. Although it has shifted focus from the mystery of the whys and who (x2) to give us all the great reveals (with hints to help us guess along the way), it has moved into compelling (for me) relationship development for all our main characters. I find it amazing that our protagonists although murderers without shame or compunction can still elicit from me sorrow at their 'plight'. I can, without condoning their evil, still wish for them to have a degree of happiness, to have their wrongs redressed and to feel that they are accepted even if their acts are unacceptable. Kudos to the writer, director and actors for such rich, layered characters and a story that accords viewers with immense respect.

Oh My Ghostesss - Enjoyable but watching with some reservations and questions as to a few points that have not been addressed... the biggest being, "What is really keeping our ghost from passing over?" Although the main characters are the ghost and the chef, unlike other rom-coms, we cannot write-off the 2nd female lead (Bong Sun) if a love triangle emerges, because this corner of the triangle happens to be the host! The host, if she survives, is going to have to live with lots of consequences of errors of judgement and deserves to be given some kind of arc and a bit of development. In actual fact, I thought this show should have had 3 main characters (the poster shows 4 people) in the same way that Healer had 3 main characters... all with backstory and all rounded. I'm surprised that we are stuck with only 2 when Bong Sun is a very big part of the whole equation. And since I looked at the poster again... I started thinking that Sung Jae should also get more backstory or at least we should get more explanations about the whys of his behavior. Most of all, I'd really like to know the rules of possession in this dramaverse. There's this big plot hole of ghost not being able to separate and then suddenly being able to separate from the host which is not explained at all!!!

Yong Pal - Very hopeful and episode 2 is moving it along. I'm hoping for lots of sympathetic characters and bromance and teamwork to right wrongs and save both Yong Pal and Yeo Jin from the complicated mess of money power games. I like that this show has touched on the question of priorities given to those with status / money / connections. I wonder how far it will go...

I wonder how far it will go into suggesting a solution or the ability to fight the system of privileges accorded to the VIP. There is also the question of what makes a doctor and of whether ethics or rules/law or money should have a part to play in saving lives. It is interesting that although Yong Pal is a victim of the unfair privilege system, he is not bitter but only more determined to get around it and better yet, that he can choose to put humane-ness before the rules.

Happy Drama Watching!

Hello all:

Let's see:
Oh my ghostess: Dang the stress. When two perfectly good characters are gonna be at odds cause ya know..one is dead and falling in love. We were all kinda worried about this, weren't we? Wondering what evil spirit will do to Bong Sun. Ah me!

My Beautiful Bride: Please say they are together at last. No more separations!

Yong Pal: Oooh, fun! A cheeky hero with a good soul but a wobbly social moral compass. I've obvioiusly been needing a light thriller. Feels like this'll be this season's Healer which i never got into. But am totally into this one. A medical show i will actually watch.

Last: I ike this when i watch it but kinda forget it when not.

Bluebird's House: Seriously? IS the truth about Taesu finally going to come out publicly????? Awaiting the questioning. I thought Hyeodo and Eun Su were brother and sister.. Is Eun Su Taesu's daughter? All that talk about bloodline ...

I remember you: Wow, a relly painful show to watch. Never have I wanted a redemption arc as much as I wanted one now. Baby bro...get a human soul, please!

And of course Gag Concert and Cool Kiz are my continuing faves, although i have yet to catch up on Cool Kiz..am three episodes behind.

Have a great weekend, all.

Someone asked me what dramas I hated and why on the episode 9 of SWWTN recap comment section, and I couldn't reply there so here it is. I find it difficult to hate a drama and rather than hate it I try to find things that I do like and focus on those. If I ever find myself stuck in a drama which I'm losing things to like about, I just drop the drama altogether and get away from anything that reminds me of it. I don't read recaps, or news about it or anything. Then the drama ceases to exist for me and I move onto something else.
A few of those dramas in recent times have been Producers, Flower Boy Next Door and Flower Boy Ramyun Shop, Discovery of Romance, Personal Taste. What usually gets me to lose interest in a drama are boring stories. I can tolerate a terrible actor more than a terrible story because it's easy for me to separate the actor from the drama and just focus on the character, if that makes sense. If I understand the character I can project my own thoughts on why the person is behaving a certain way and I'm able to enjoy the show in spite of terrible acting.
So, what are your reasons for dropping shows and why do people find it hard to drop shows they clearly don't like?

0
34
reply

Required fields are marked *

So funny, because I was thinking of posting a similar idea. That is, what terrible dramas have you watched and although they were terrible, some scenes stick in your head and you find yourself remembering them.

So the first one for me was Marry Him If You Dare, which was a plot mess with too much fan service. BUT, there were some fabulous scenes: When Mi-rae and Kim Shin try on costumes, when Se-Joo has his secretary quick go rent him an apartment so he an Mi-rae can go there to watch his movie (and then he doesn't know where the bathroom is).

Another was Dr. Stranger. It started out okay, but went went crazy on us with the surgery contests and the North Korean agents having nine lives. A doctor who farts in the elevator? A heroine who survives being shot and then falling off a bridge into a river, twice? The best part of this drama was reading the recaps on Dramabeans.

I do usually drop shows I just can't get into, but sometimes I like to watch, just to see how bad it can get.

For me, I can't even bring myself to hate-watch a drama. It feels a little like an abusive relationship to me. It's not worth my energy to watch a show just to find things to pick apart about it. I don't know how to turn off my brain or my feelings when watching a drama so I would rather not watch than be left with a headache and battered emotions when I'm through.

I fell into that same kind of "watch it because I detest it" trap a couple of times - on Heirs, and Doctor Stranger. They were just so bad that I could not look away.

Heirs was just plain consistently bad all around. Doc Stranger I kept watching just to see how many plot holes, errors, and generally impossible things would happen in one episode.

For me: Heirs. There are other, of course...but the one with the biggest hype and deliver none? This has got to be it for me.

Required fields are marked *

Heirs was the exact opposite for me. I went into the drama with the impression that it was one of the worst dramas in drama history but every time I watched it, it kept getting better. Every time someone complained about it, I loved it more. It became one of my favourite dramas ever and I rewatch it every few months. Every time I rewatch it, I notice something I missed the first few times. It's hard to explain why I love it so much and people start to think I'm stupid for liking the drama.

0

Required fields are marked *

Heirs was enormously bad. It is still #1 on my list of worst ever. It was not just that it was really bad, but the fact that it was so wildly overhyped and failed to deliver.

But Heirs has some really rabid fans - I got mob-scened because I made a comment about PSH having two expressions - mouth open and crying, and mouth closed and crying.

So, what are your reasons for dropping shows and why do people find it hard to drop shows they clearly don’t like?

In the past I've dropped shows that bored me, or because there was distasteful content (hel-lo, Kim Sam Soon and your abusive 'romantic' lead), or because it just wasn't what I wanted. I dropped Joseon Gunman because there was just too much crying. Lazy writing will make me drop shows, too.

Some of those I went back and read recaps so I'd know how the story turned out (also Kim Sam Soon).

But I've also continued to watch shows I could not stand. bBlood leaps to mind. It was just so bad that it was like watching a train wreck. I could not look away. And I kept watching Discovery of Romance because I was invested in the secondary characters. I kind of fast-forwarded through stuff that didn't have Kim Seul-gi in it.

Required fields are marked *

Boring is by far the main reason. Being a k-drama addict I can put up with stupid tropes, bad acting, massive plot holes, and 894 really stupid cop scenes. But some shows just seem to totally drag on with no forward movement.

0

reply

Required fields are marked *

Yeah. Sometimes I think it's that they contracted for 20 episodes when they really only had 10 episodes worth of story.

Recently, I ditched Hidden Identity because the story didn't seem to be making sense, and I found myself not really caring about the plot or the characters. (Whereas I don't care for the 'Night Scholar' plot, but the acting is really on-point, so I'm still on-board. Ok, shirtless evil vampire doesn't hurt. Chocolate abs cover a multitude of sins, as you are probably aware.)

Ah interesting question!
Reasons i drop drama:
-inconsistency, and by that coming with plot holes and idiocy. I'm not exactly picky, at some point i'm even willing to ignore it as long as i enjoy watching. I need drama that i enjoy, not to look for its flaw. When it becomes too obvious and annoying i dropped it altogether or watch it and badmouth it anytime i can (insert Producer & Sensory Couple here).

-Boring. The Time When We're in Love becomes so boring even Jinwok can't save it. Too bad, i really enjoyed the first 4 eps.

-Simply because i don't like it? Is this even a legit reason LOL. Contrary to general opinion, i dropped Secret Garden and Flower Boy Ramyun Shop because i just can't stand watching the character idk why don't hate me T_T

0

Required fields are marked *

@ Ek Ladhki Thi

Reasons for dropping shows:
- a more compelling and interesting show comes along ... goes with lack of time and having to choose
-it's just plain boring
-I feel the show is playing me and does not respect the viewer... goes together with the feeling that I'm wasting my time
-it makes me feel too angry or too upset

Like you, bad acting in itself does not affect me much. I will deplore the lack of expression or ability to bring me along a series of emotions, but I can figure it out without feeling it.

Even lazy writing and plot holes in themselves will not stop me... if anything I'll watch out of a perverse pleasure in finding more plot holes. :)

I'd sort of like to know if something is not liked more because it was popular and there was hype that did not pan out (and so was more disappointing) or because it was really not all that good. Or merely the hype really annoyed and so that annoyance rubbed off on my viewing pleasure.

I guess, I'd like to be able to watch a show without thinking about the hype, without knowing the writers, or the PD and just take it as it is to judge. It's hard to be objective :)

I agree with you. While I don't think that it's the worst drama I've seen (Doctor Stranger will forever hold that place in my heart), I did not like Healer very much.

I'm the same, I don't stick to dramas I don't like. There so many to watch and it's so easy to let go and find something else.

Dramas I've dropped recently were Mask (the main actress got on my nerves) and the Time I've Bored You, for obvious reasons.

The Prime Minister and I had me hooked from the first 10 minutes. I was surprised with Yoona's believability in her part. (I thought she did fine in the role.) And I've always liked Yoon Si Yoon. I watched the show as it aired, waiting for each week UNTIL it went ca-razy on me--when the prime minister's wife came back and everyone in the cast stopped taking their logical pills.
I will watch a show--even when the script seems bad, or character's don't do what I think they should as long as their actions seem consistent. It is when a show decides to break all the rules and as a viewer you scratch your head and mumble, "I thought vampires couldn't. . ." or "why doesn't she just say, 'your brother in law is trying to kill you." I never watched the end of PM&I, Mirae's choice (I liked that one at first too) or Joseon Gunman. Sadly, some of the shows I've looked forward to the most are the ones I dropped the quickest (Producers, God's Gift, 14 days, I'm looking at you!) Sorry if some of my drops are your all time favs.

What dramas I hated? Warm & Cozy (the message that it's all right for Jung-Joo to be the doormat in her relationship with Gun-Woo - basically promoting an unequal romantic partnership), Temptation (1st kdrama I had nightmares from), Doctor Stranger (writing, plot development, actions/motivations for characters, logic, etc.), May Queen (my 1st kdrama weekender), Big (Not the only reason but Bae Suzy's character Jang Ma-Ri was really annoying), Twelve Men In A Year, & Hotelier.

What are your reasons for dropping shows? Nowadays, I find myself dropping more dramas than I did in the past. Masked Prosecutor - Kim Sun-A character Yoo Min-Hee was a cop but she became a damsel in distress on the steps with the motorcycle assailant. Birth of a Beauty, Mr. Back, Blood, Super Daddy Yul, My Unfortunate Boyfriend, Orange Marmalade - Other dramas took precedent. I didn't have the extra free time required to continue watching them. High Society - I was familiar with writer Ha Myung-Hee's previous works Can We Get Married? and A Word From Warm Heart. I realized early on that I was expecting more from High Society than it would probably be able to deliver.

Why do people find it hard to drop shows they clearly don’t like? Being new to kdramas and just discovering and learning about them (old/recently aired 16-20+ episodes vs. watching/streaming live once subbed vs. weekend dramas with 50 episodes); at first it was hard for me to drop a drama that I didn't like. (You mentioned A Man Called God - it was the 3rd kdrama I watched. I disliked it from the beginning but I kept watching and completed it because I kept hoping & thinking it would get better.)

Then there are shows that I didn't connect with in the beginning, but grew to love like All About Eve, My Girlfriend Is A Gumiho, Secret Garden, & City Hunter. So I'm always cognizant of this and wonder if the next show will turn out to be like that for me.

I'll be the first to admit that I have a love-hate relationship with Mirae's Choice. I hated the ending to The Woman Who Married Three Times but I don't regret watching it. It's one of those dramas that leaves you steaming mad but you can't deny the writer had a message on many levels that's hard to ignore. Sort of reminds me of how The Feminine Mystique sparked a second-wave of feminism in the U.S.

I used to be a completist and would watch the shows I hated until the bitter end (the things I did for Lee Min-Ho, srsly!). However, now that I have less time for entertainment, I don't feel bad about dropping dramas. One of the first series I dropped then kind of FF-ed through was Secret Garden - the main character was just irredeemable for me (for personally, of course, quite a few people love this drama). I usually drop dramas when they (1) become predictable without any other redeeming qualities ("it's not fun, exciting, well-executed or cute, and I know where this is going"); (2) turn good characters into terrible jerks or complete idiots to the point where I can't handle it anymore (that spy drama that shall not be named, you know the one with the main female character slapped by the love interest); (3) turn into a complete trainwreck (looking at a certain drama that changed writers) or (4) do a heel turn - go from comedy into straight melo or something like that, I came for laughs - not tears!

Doctor Stranger, for all of the reasons mentioned in other posts, plus I thought that the acting by the female main lead was spectacularly awful. You know it's really bad when the reason that you continue to watch a drama is in the hope that the female lead will be killed off.

If I am marathoning, I will usually complete the series.

If I am watching live, if I am not invested enough to remember to watch, I will drop on occasion. And then I will remember it a few weeks later, and either finish it or decide I really don't care enough to bother.

The only one I can think of off the top of my head that I deliberately dropped, as opposed to just forgetting, is Time We Were Not in Love, because I couldn't stand the 2nd lead. I have trouble telling people no. When I work myself up enough to actually say no, and the no is not accepted, it is very distressing. I was watching Hana tell her ex No over and over and over again. She was saying it with her words, her actions, and her body language. And he fricken would not take no for an answer. And I found I was having trouble breathing. So I dropped the show.

Waiting for next ep of I Remember You... and i'm trying to find my new drama fix for my semester break. I think i will be walking like a zombie without IRY lol. I need to find some stuff to cure my withdrawal syndrome and hanging out with some busy pals are not exactly ideal. So drama watching experience with Yongpal is currently the best choice there is.

Nothing can really go wrong with Joo Won drama. At least it will be good enough to watch per say Good Doctor, or it's going to be seriously awesome like Gaksital. And they have pretty flower with slowly acceptable acting KTH.

Yongpal is not enough to fill my break though, so i venture to another pretty flower vase drama Tantai no Tantai (Kitagawa Keiko), the girl is supposed to be badass but i could not accept the action scene at all and Kitagawa is really bothering me. She never bothered me that much to stop the drama. I don't think it's just my cup of tea. Everything is uh.. bye. Just no... i can't continue not when i keep comparing it to IRY 'seemingly real' action scene. What does this drama do to my life really!? You are making me lifeless, IRY.

Anyhow, i'm really enjoying Soratobu Kouhoushitsu after a slew of good ole Kimu Taku's drama. I'm dreading and both anticipating next week to say goodbye to IRY. Finding jdramas just because IRY give me some jdrama vibes lol.

Usually, cop shows are not my cup of tea for Kdramas. Kdramas are usually for rom com or makjang (that i loathe though i watch for tragic enjoyment purposes) but i've been meaning to try more after IRY.

I heard Bad Guys is tragic. I don't know what's wrong with almost every Kim Nam Gil drama that he needs to be the tragic and die at the end lead. I heard about Missing Noir M and also heard about how it fizzles halfway through. Been meaning to still check it out though. Thanks for the recommendation :) .

Hi Everybody!
I just wanted to say hi after quite a long time. I was so busy I didn't watch a single drama since October, I actually kept up to date through Dramabeans while commuting, until Mask started airing. Being a JJH fan, I was curious how he does, so I watched 4 initial episodes in one go (like I used to in good old times) and kept watching what followed each week. I quite enjoyed the drama, even if the ending wasn't as meaty as I would like it to be. The actors did their characters justice, the overall tone was bearable (loved those bits of comedy here and there), it was exciting enough to keep me hooked. I can say it is my comeback drama.
I still haven't decided what I will watch next, no current dramas appeal to me that much. I hope for a good, fresh romcom or something akin to 'slice of life' Japanese dramas.
Once I picked up dramas again, I might comment on a show or some news and I am looking forward to interacting with you, Beanies!

Happy Friday! Today is apparently International Beer Day. Just fyi.

What I've Been Watching:

I Remember You: OH EMM GEE. That last episode was nothing but awkward silences. Hahahahaaaa. The boss suggesting that Hyeon & Min were lovers? Bwahahaaaaa. The most awkward dinner in the history of dinners? :wipes eyes: I love this writer.

And the moral muddying of the waters just keeps going, which I LOVE - the psycho saves himself over and over, the little brother was always broken (and no, Hyeon, you can't fix that.)

And OMG, the narrative that Lee Hoon Jo has spun for himself as the three of them as a happy family - wow. Heartbreaking, disturbing, and such an epic delusion. You can tell that this show is not going to have a happy ending (which makes me even more thrilled with it.)

This is an insta-buy for the library.

Scholar Who Walks the Night: Haven't caught up with this week's episodes, yet, but I'm starting to get irritated w/the characters, so we'll see.

Waiting to Watch:

Cheo Yong 2: So SOOOOON. ::bounces::

K-drama Moment:

I have found a lot of interesting Korean bands via bandcamp. This week, I found the Feverdogs, and the Bankrupts. :)

I wish we had a librarian like you. I think our library has zero Korean dramas. Maybe so the can save money, since they know you can stream them for free.

One branch is filled with Bollywood, which is fun. I need to get over there again.

Of course, I am speaking of the town in the Bay Area and not my mountain town. The library here is hilarious. Many books have not been checked out since 1960, but if the threw out all the old books, there wouldn't be any on the shelves. Ah, rural living. Thank goodness for Overdrive.

Well, our branch has no Bollywood at all, so it really depends on the librarians. Try asking your local librarian to order a set - we often purchase items based on direct patron requests. (And then, after you've gotten all your friends to check it out, request some more...and ask the librarian to check the circulation statistics. If it's moving, they'll want to add more.)

2. Assembly – Daebak. Thank you Jung Jae-young for accepting a drama. This debut is much appreciated. You just know I will do anything for you, oppaaaaa. I have been a fan ever since early 2000s. You never disappoint. Love you!

3. Mrs. Cop – The sizzling chemistry of Kim Min-jong and Kim Hee-ae. I lost count of how many times my heart jumped with their interaction. It's unreal. Srsly, their chemistry. THEIR CHEMISTRY. It moves me so much. I want to watch more SOLELY to ship them and to feel them.

I agree about Assembly. The cast and story is wonderful. It's a shame about the ratings- too bad most people aren't into realistic dramas. It is such a treat watching Jung Jae Young in a drama. I hope he gets top excellence, though that's not looking to likely with the ratings, as fair as kbs is with the big awards.

Required fields are marked *

Unfortunately viewers tend to find parallels to real life in fictional rom-coms (or in coms with some rom ) and hate the real life itself when it finally appears. That's why Assembly doesn't stand a chance. Nevertheless, I wish we could have a recap (even a quick one with no hundreds of comments would have been fine by me) because I really want to comprehend a little better how politics and government work in SK.
And you're right...JJY is too much for TV.

It might be realistic, but I don't want stupid heroes.

0

Required fields are marked *

I like Assembly as well. True the hero does come across as somewhat stupid and naive although I think that's about to change. He's a complete neophyte in the pressure cooker world of national politics and he's made the mistake of depending on people with sophisticated political smarts who are using him to further their own agendas. He is naive but being naive isn't necessarily a bad thing. He's got to start using his naivety to connect with the people he's been elected to serve. Because that is the one thing he does understand much better than his political "masters". Politics, at its best, is about service not personal betterment and climbing the ladder to power. It's one of the things I liked best about The City Hall. Both Jo Guk, the slick political operative, and Shin Mi-rae, the naive and unsophisticated mayor, both have something to teach the other about politics, people and life.

About the ratings though, I'm not surprised. Political dramas don't exactly make for sexy drama unless you have a Cha Seung-won and a Kim Sun-ah in the lead roles.

I feel like there's nothing much to watch at the moment.

IRY – jumped into this from ep 10, enjoying it a lot, but we've got just two episodes left.

Oh My Ghostess – was very fond of this originally but last two episodes were such a let down that I'm not sure I'll watch the final six ones.

Time I've Fortunately Not Wasted but Only Read Awfully Entertaining Recaps – obviously not watching this one.

Mrs. Cop – tried but so terrible that I'm done after two episodes of skip-watching. Not even going to read the recaps, not worth it. The premise had promise, but this show isn't even trying. And ep 2 SPOILER – the death of the kid – just made me really angry. Dear Mom cop: you do not go chasing a criminal when you are watching a little kid.

Yongpal – doesn't interest me, not the premise and JW has no particular appeal for me? And didn't we just see him as a doctor (and that drama didn't endear me to him)?

Scholar – fortunately held off on this one, and judging from the recaps, the only reason to watch is the pretty, which doesn't do it for me.

Not much on the Japanese front either.

Akagi – okay, need to go back to this one, first ep was good and Kanata Hongo is a must watch.

37.5 no Namida – quite good actually but subs are slow.

Is there anything else?

My Beautiful Bride- It's weird how much I like this show given how much I wanted Kim Do-hyung and Yoon Joo-young to die in the fire so the focus could switch to Cha Yoon-mi. I mean come on Kim Do-hyung is the stupidest living being on Earth, he'd have to get a brain transplant from a dead dog for his IQ to go up. Yet despite that I still quite enjoy the ride.

Mrs. Cop- I enjoyed the first week despite some things.

SPOILERS.

Jae-duk getting stabbed was his own idiotic fault, what happened to that poor child in episode 2 was 99% Choi Young-jin's fault 1% the killers. She should have been fired instead of getting her badge back.

Oh, My Ghostess- I love it so much, I'm sad there's only two weeks left after this weekend.

I Remember You- I knew it was a bad idea to completely trust Min, and that it was a bad idea for Ji-ahn to be looking through Lee Joon-ho's "empty" house by herself. Is it next week yet?

<what happened to that poor child in episode 2 was 99% Choi Young-jin’s fault 1% the killers

That made me so angry and is probably one of the main reasons I'm not continuing with this show (though there are plenty of other reasons). This woman should not be a cop. This is a completely nonsensical show and I would not be surprised if they just continued on without saying much more about the death of this child. But the way that death happen was absolutely unforgivable and I just can't ignore that.

IRY – hmmm, I don't think Min is necessarily a threat to Ji-an. She did just save him when he was stabbed (though I'm not sure how conscious he was to realise that at the time). But minimally, I think Min will think twice before hurting someone that he knows is precious to his brother. Plus, I trust in Ji-an's guts and smarts to turn this situation around. Oh, the delight when you have heroines that aren't incapable damsels in distress! :-)

Required fields are marked *

IRY - I don't think Min even notice or grateful at that 'Ji An' saving him and stuff. Because i don't see any hint of expressions or any of him thanking her either. Anyhow, I think Min is perfectly capable of harming her, i'm not saying 'killing her'.

He has some pretty twisted brain, and with his twisted brain, he does not like to share his brother. Though, Ji An give the bros some pretty lovey dovey time, Min can just test Hyun out and tease his hyung to see which one he would choose. CJA or him. And for him to take such action might need some fueling up by LJY.

LJY though, i think he actually cares for Ji An aside from those two (not until their level but he looks like he does). He doesn't harm her for all those years he knew her right? And doesn't look like he plans to either despite him knowing that she knows.

I Remember You - That is like the only 'Ji An' decision that i'm having a problem with but i get that it is in her character to do so but i can't help but screamed at the screen when she went into the house. I knew LJY would have expect it.

I think Ji-ahn will be safe from Min - even serial killers can have favorite people, and she seems at least a safe third in his top three. But yeah, Hyeon is seriously over-optimistic, and Lee Joon Ho is, horribly enough, right. It was probably a good idea to separate those boys, and Lee Hyeon has no freaking idea what he's doing with his beloved little brother.

The the thing is for me I think she's safe from Lee Joon-ho, he hasn't shown any interest in hurting her or really anyone who isn't an abuser. But with Min she's competition for his brothers affection, I think she's in more danger because that's Min than if that had bee Lee Joon-ho standing there at the end.

Hmm. Maybe, though I think she'd be in more danger if there was really a romantic relationship. Right now, it looks more like a 'chosen family' friendship (which I ADORE about this storyline), and Min isn't trying to cut her out the way that he is Lee Joon-ho.)

Actually, Min's reminder that "I was born this way" (and his flat affect while talking about how he would have made the Planning Officer suffer) plus Lee Joon-ho's remark about evil souls & his question to Hyeon really made a lot of Lee Joon-ho's interactions with Min make sense. If Lee Joon-ho isn't mentoring him, but rather managing him, that explains a LOT about their relationship.

Well, my dedicated drama watching has been paired down to I Remember You and what a tough act that will be to follow. Anyone want to make bets on whether an American network will pick up this concept as an option for a series? I'd make that bet...it's a good concept and I think would transition better to a US series than some of the other ones that have been optioned. I can see the selling points: brainy crime-solving couple with a slow developing relationship (like X-Files and Bones), psycho killer involved in crime solving (Hannibal), and serial killer killing people who deserve to be killed (Dexter). Win-win-win.

Still not sold on Yong Pal and Mrs. Cop, dabbling with My Beautiful Bride and Last.

I realized I don't like watching things that are on-going, not because I get too anxious for new episodes, but because of that whole "if I miss a week there will be too many episodes to watch all at once" and also spoilers.

From 2015, the only korean drama I liked and finished was School 2015.

Hey everyone!

1. Yong Pal: I'm pretty much hooked at this point. Super pace and intriguing storyline. The ratings are super high for a reason

2. The Scholar who Walks the night: I felt it dragging this week and it has entered a melo phase. I don't know how the writers are going to continue the storyline for 10 more episodes

3. Oh my Ghost: Dropped it. Am I the only one who disliked this show? Probably.

4. The Time We Were Not in Love: Finally decided to officially drop it and just read the recaps. Ugh! Nothing is happening at ALL. I really wanted to continue watching it for Won's face but alas I can't make myself watch it anymore.

I have been wanting to watch My Beautiful Bride but I may wait a bit for all the episodes to come out and then binge it.

It's not bad for an action/thriller. I actually think it might come together in the end. Plenty of too-silly thugs tripping over thugs, though. Do Hyung - gah, what a UDT Marine man, no flimsy flower boy here.

I don't like Ghostess either. It kind of bugs m--the whole idea of moral agency being used by someone else. I usually don't comment, because so many people seem to love this and I don't want to be a wet blanket. But yeah, I'm with you. I don't even like the idea. (I do like the cast, tho. I'm just not gonna watch it.)

Good hello Beanies !

Oh, My Ghostess !!!! I love this drama so much !!!They put up such a smart "love triangle". Ottoké, SA is in love with SW, it's going to be even more difficult for her to go, or leave BS body at times. I'm falling for JJS all over again, I'm getting my TK2H fangirl heart back. I hope we get more answers about SJ in this upcoming episode, and I really hope SA doesn't turn evil because of her attachment to SW.

My Beautiful Bride: Still enjoying every bit of it, Do hyung is scarily loyal *shivers*.

Apparently Seo Kang joon is in the final talk for Baek Inho in tvN's 'Cheese In The Trap'. I like the team behind this drama so I have faith.

My Beautiful Bride – the workout. Gah ~

I Remember You – the birthday present, my heart aches. It is distressing to see the ripple effects of a psychopath

The Genius 4- I am coming back around to Kyunghoon, and I am rooting for Hyunmin to make it all the way

Yong Pal – exciting first episode, has potential

Last it’s okay, gotta be in the mood, though, to watch it

Human Condition – did you notice how different the dynamics were without Chef Choi last week? Everyone was way more relaxed…

Infinity Challenge – I love love love the teams, especially Kwanghee, Gdragon and Taeyang, and HaHa and Zion T. Hyukoh – very cool band. I’m all for IU’s influence in the end for acoustic, although it looks like EDM might prevail.

King of Mask Singer – picked this show up last week thanks to Waiting’s suggestion, and really like it. Wow, a score of 49 to 50 for a winner – close and exciting!

I can’t believe I am saying this, but the Happy Together format with the chef and guests is the most boring set up they’ve had. I think. Go back to the sauna/late night cafeteria combo, please!

Not sure Mr.s Cop will cut it for me, after Secret Love Affair (now there’s a good rewatch, for those of you who are wanting one)

Summer harvest – tomatoes, cucumbers, and zucchini galore! I love going out each morning and picking the vegetables. Veggies sauteed in olive oil with mint and basil is fragrant and scrumptious~must enjoy it while it lasts!

have a great weekend, all! \/

Except that...in 20 or 30 years, she'd look on that 'present' as a kindness. That's what I love about this show - it's all complicated emotional shit and nothing is straightforward.

He's a serial killer...but he was held captive & tortured throughout his childhood, & he kills abusers.

He's a murderer, but he saves kids.

Psycho, jr loves his brother...and he hates him, too.

The guard was a great dad, but not such a nice guy at work.

It's all layers and shades of grey, and it makes the story so much more powerful.

I nearly always give a drama 4 episodes to live or die. The one exception was The Time I Wasted, which I gave up on a few minutes into EP4.

Ms Cop started out pretty stupid, with all the usual totally Keystone Kops stuff, but I think it has possibilities if it moves on from there. Her daughter is one of the very few child actors that I can actually stand - most "child acting" in k-dramas is some kid wailing away with facial closeups.

Yong Pal - mixed feelings on that one also, despite it's very high ratings in Korea. I am getting a lot of that Doctor Stranger feel so far. Makjang seems to be making it's way back into dramas, for better or worse.

Oh My Ghostess - was really into this for a while, but last 2-3 episodes.. not so much. Not seeing any real movement here, and the forced-seeming cuddly scenes and constant whining of the ghost to "do it" are getting old. Lots of fast forwarding last 3 episodes.

MBB is one of the few that I am really into, Mainly because I want to see the boss die a horrible screaming death.

Most everything that I would like to see on the J-drama front is really slow getting subbed.

If I started it because it sounded interesting, I give it at least one whole episode (unless it is a particularly egregious offender. If you promised a plot but it's all makjang, then out the door you go.)

Sometimes I'll go read recaps to see if it's improved (and honestly, reading recaps about crappy shows can be quite entertaining.) Sometimes when I drop a show, I'll keep reading the recaps so I can find out how the plot wraps up but not have to endure the crying (I'm looking at you, Joseon Gunman.)

No seriously: Doesn't Song Seung-heon already have some experience in international projects (Japan, China)?

Liu Yifei is American, she speaks English fairly well. I'm pretty sure they'll be fine in terms of communication.

Song Seung Heon english will be suffice though? I mean generally Korean who is not raise at different countries are not really proficient in English.

I doubt having a few international project is enough. I personally follow a bit of JNR days when she was doing Chinese dramas, even she said its hard to date Chinese co-stars though she did not mind dating one.

Divorce is a hard one. It doesn't really matter what side of the divorced/divorcee equation you are on. I've never been involved in a divorce and am happily married but I have held a lot of divorcing hands through the process. The most important thing to me is to be kind and don't give into anger or respond to anger. Trash talk is ultimately self defeating. Whatever the reasons for the divorce, and I'm sure they are good ones, just remember you loved each other enough once upon a time to get married in the first place. Even if you are the initiator of the divorce, expect to grieve and feel pain. It really is like a death and give yourself time to process the end of the marriage.

My head hurts and my eyes are swollen. I just finished marathoning 'Punch', the show that was on my to watch list for the longest time but only now that I got into it. Seriously, why do I wait until now?

In my opinion, Punch is the best written and directed drama for this year, or maybe ever. It was consistent from beginning to the end as the writer knew exactly where the story would go and it was just brilliant. Kim Rae-won & Jo Jae-hyun are more than brilliant too. I hope they will get deserving awards!

I think I'll be haunted by Punch for very long. Gonna buy myself a bottle of soju and give Park Jung-hwan a toast, one of the most brilliant character ever written.

Hahaha! I'd very simply like a remake of Healer (same characters) with more time for more action and parkour, more time to make the bad guy more compelling, an additional growth arc where the main leads embrace giving to others and not just concentrate on themselves, and more family time with parents.

Why it works for me:
1) Compelling backstories and well-nuanced characters with a growth arc - There is heartbreak and pathos over sad/bad childhood, loneliness, keeping people at bay ... but there's the triumph of the human spirit, the tentative opening up of self to love again and healing. Such a message of hope.

2) There's a thought given to the concept of righting wrongs or going crazy as one justifies evil as ok *Moon Shik), and the pathos of not knowing how to love.

3) Lies and fun deception that is not carried on for too long and a hero who is really not a nerd or coward but oh soooo cool.

4) Realistic couple development, good communication, respect.

5) Lovely teamwork with the strengths of all brought to bear and make for a kick-ass triumph over the bad guys, while opening the way for a new, fresh future. Killed 2 birds with 1 stone.

well, I am a comedy person. Good sense of humor, lingustic meta and alliterations demand intelligence and people skills to pull off. When I sometimes (re-)imagine plots here, they always contain upside down logic and breaking clichés.

But you can deliver serious messages through humor too. laughing at death and end of all things, you know.

I am still hanging onto the thought of a great black comedy. Maybe a mash-up of dramas, like kdrama avengers from the forces of evil´s perspective, and how hard it is to survive as a moderately villanous individual. they, too, have hopes and dreams, albeit twisted.

and a spin-off of Kill Me, Heal Me, where we see all alters in subconcience TOGETHER, and what seas is Perry sailing now.

It would have to be a cop show + supernatural shenanigans show. There'd be little to no romance, but lots of Best Friends Forever bonding.

There'd also be lots of mysteries alongside excellent character development and very snappy dialog. Ghosts, weirdness, monsters, and all grounded in the real world by character responses that seem truthful (for example: growing unease & paranoia at a haunting site instead of over-the-top hysteria.)

And it would star...hmm...

Lee Joon-ki as the Team Leader going through a rough divorce.

Kim Sang-ho as the senior detective who really doesn't believe in all this ghost shit.

Gong Hyo-Jin would be a no-nonsense detective who got transferred to the woo-woo squad as a punishment for being a whistleblower.

Kwon Hyun-Sang would be the hair-trigger detective who keeps getting promoted and then busted back down because of his temper. Everyone is slightly afraid of him, and he's the most ghost-sensitive member of the group (to which he reacts badly.)

Kim Seul-gi would be the perennial Good Cop. Upbeat, doing well, dating a great guy, no emotional baggage. Everybody else kind of wants to push her in the mud.

Lee Jae Joon would be the maknae who just got promoted to the squad. He's competent, but feels like he's just kind of flailing. Also, he is terrified of supernatural stuff but doesn't want anyone to know.

Oh man, now I REALLY want to watch this.

Hey everybody...happy OT!

Another week gone by in a flash...where is time going?! I didn't even have much time to relax, much less catch kdramas! :( The main culprit is this dang heatwave...my area had 13 consecutive days above 90 -.- When it gets hot and really humid, my brain goes haywire and I'd much rather get some zz's early instead. It really isn't much fun to watch tv/kdrama when you're hot and sweaty - definitely not the ideal 'climate' to relax, really. Today was the first day in the 80's - woo-hoo! Now I'm just waiting for Fall to get here...now that is my ideal season of weather!

So, I didn't even get to catch my usual slate of dramas this week (Midnight Diner, Let Her Cry) but I did catch the first ep of Mrs. Cop.
Simply from the cast (Kim Hee-ae & Kim Min-jong!), the premise of an ahjumma cop and it being new got me to tune in.

But right off the bat, my biggest gripe - why in the world do kdrama writers write up cops as incompetent, corrupt and with no sense of basic police procedure?? (particularly focusing on women cops)
I don't think I've ever seen a kdrama where there are police officers that actually do their jobs, aren't corrupt and follow basic procedure...ever. (I've been reading about I Remember You and how it's doing a bang up job. It's still on my to-watch list.) I get that the crazy serial killer must be 'loose' for the team to do their job and whatnot, but losing a suspect so easily? Bah, what nonsense that writers write this way, because they think the viewing public doesn't really give a rat's ass about common sense, and dumbing down everything and everyone. Jeez. They should really take a look at police procedural shows from the US, and not stick to the same ol' crap. It's really getting old, man.

But...I'm still holding out hope and sticking with this, for now. The chemistry between Kim Hee-ae and Kim Min-jong is sparkling! Frankly the only two I'm really watching this for, anyway.

Three Meals a Day: I've been catching these more this week than usual, mainly because it's been drawing my interest since I've caught an ep or two in the past few weeks. Been going on a binge watch of this season's shows, and my gosh...why haven't I been watching this before?? (Especially the eps with Cha-jumma?!?) Taecyeon is really impressing me with his cooking skills -- kinda wish he could draw my interest more in his acting skills, but hey...someone can wish that, no? :P He's become really endearing, and I love Minki!!! Her pups are so precious...reminding me of when my pups were babies. I think it's hilarious how Seo-jinnie gets duped by Na PD again and again, thinking that the week's guest is gonna be a girl group member and getting all crazy in making a flower bouquet...only to realize it's a guy ;P hahaha. Two weeks now that's happened...and it doesn't get old. Now if only I could find a trustworthy site that has the Cha-jumma season eps...

Dropped but will get back...

Not many in my list now, waiting for the disaster drama, I really liked the teasers, waiting for Jung So Min

Is it just me or is there just no "good" drama at the moment? I feel like there's a drought of dramas right now that just HOOKS you immediately. I don't know. Then again, maybe it's because I poured out all my emotions for School 2015 (huhuhuuuuu Taekwang ;___;) and loved loved looooved Cindy in Producers that now I'm so emotionally drained and no show since then has elicited the same degree of love and excitement in me.
