Lee Shi-young hunts for Kim Mu-yeol’s missing bride in new OCN thriller
by girlfriday
OCN’s new summer show has been flying mostly under the radar, but it does have Lee Shi-young (Valid Love, Golden Cross) in a badass action role (hell yeah) and a really cool premise that sounds like a movie whipped into drama form. The action-thriller is called My Beautiful Bride, and is about a man whose fiancée suddenly disappears right before their wedding, sending him on a rampage to find her.
The drama comes from writer Yoo Sung-yeol of the crime thriller Heartless City and PD Kim Chul-gyu of Emergency Couple, and it’ll be OCN’s first series that airs twice a week, on Saturdays and Sundays. It stars Kim Mu-yeol (War of Dogs, Eungyo) as a man whose bride gets taken from him, and over the course of the story he turns into a monster in order to find her. He’s described as “unconditional love and rage,” and will be the central driving force of the man-on-a-mission thriller.
Lee Shi-young co-stars as the detective tasked with unfurling the mystery surrounding his fiancée, and will at times be helping him find her, and other times stopping him from taking the law into his own hands. I’m sure he breaks a bunch of laws anyway, since I don’t exactly see a “monster” stopping to follow the rules; besides, where would action-thrillers be if people had to stop for bureaucracy?
Go Sung-hee (Spy, Records of a Night Watchman) plays the missing bride, and she opens the main teaser as Lee Shi-young narrates: “The woman who promised marriage disappeared. In order to find her, he became a monster,” and then she busts up a fight, with her gun pointed right at Kim Mu-yeol.
I have to say, it’s pretty cool to have dramaland filled with strong female detectives lately, even if they do seem everywhere right now. We’ll have to pick a clear winner between Lee Shi-young, Kim Sun-ah, and Jang Nara once we’ve seen them all in action. I’m pretty sure my money’s on Lee Shi-young though.
My Beautiful Bride follows Missing Noir M and airs on Saturdays and Sundays beginning June 20.

Though I'm not ready yet to let go of Missing Noir M, if this is as good as it predecessor then I'm not one of to complain. As a fan of the genre, I feel blessed between this and Hiddent Identity (damn that teaser sure got me excited), and maybe even I Remember You too? though I'm not expecting it to be as dark as the other two shows

Missing Noir M is excellent. The acting is top-notch and the writing is consistent and compelling. Though it's a procedural, it delves a little depper than your average crime show into the human nature and people's inner thoughts and motives. The case solving is intriguing with a lot of unexpected twists. However, it's not for the faint of heart, some cases are gruesome and others will drain you emotionally. I think it's worth a try at least :)

Those pictures of Le Siyoung holding the gun is so weird; she is obviously left handed but for picture wise she has the gun on her right hand but in the pictures where she's pointing the gun, she switched to her left hand. Wouldn't that be awkward for a cop to hold the gun on one hand and then switch to another when you have to shoot?

It's odd to say, but this is like a bridal version of God's Gift - 14 Days.
But this one is without butterfly effect and the victim is a young woman around her late 20s...

No one say the "monster" fiancée is behind the disappearance...*cries*
I like LSY the most when she is badass. Anyhow between her, Kim Sun-ah in Masked Prosecutor and Jang Nara in Hello Monster, it's a festive of girl power!

If this is anywhere near as good as Cruel City I'll be happy. Hopefully we're in for some more crime noir realness--an honest-to-god genre drama would be a beautiful thing indeed. If Go Sung-hee stays missing the whole time and the PD keeps his head screwed on straight and sticks to a close interpretation of the script, everything should be okay.

I'm glad a terrible actress like Go Sung-hee got demoted and dragged down to supporting actress for this weekend drama. That girl's "acting" sucks really bad to the bone -_-

As a noir fan, Heartless City was pretty awesome, dark, wonderful. This trailer would mean nothing despite being cool, vivid if the writer wasnt as proven with this kind of story.
Oooh cant wait!

The lead actor who is apparently known for musical work is pretty good choice too. He looks like he really become a violent monster for losing his fiancee.

I am ALWAYS excited to see more badass ladies in dramaland!!! Now I just need more of them to have first billing over the male co-star(s).
This looks exciting, I haven't watched a good thriller in a while and I hope this one is good.

The premise doesn't pull me in that much but if it's written by Cruel City writer the drama might turn out to be something much better than I expected.
Still considering whether to watch it or not

Uh I don't have many experiences with K dramas where the male and female lead don't end up together so... it sounds like
1) bride dies
2) bride is on the bad guy's side
Which kinda makes the show less exciting for me already. )=
*or may I'm just moping about Missing Noir M ending.

Yesssss, Lee Shi Young back on my screen. My love for her is unconditional. It's a big, huge girl-crush.
That first teaser definitely had me with it's reprise of one of my favorite Tears for Fears songs. Bless. I think I am going to enjoy this. Since it's OCN, will it be a shorter series? Like 10-12 episodes as opposed to 16-20?

Someone corrected me on Dramabeans and pointed out that there were two inept performances by wooden actresses in Tales of a Night Watchman, but I keep mixing them up. Is Go Sung Hee the campfire girl or the princess or what?

Shi Young is also on a new reality series called 'Lady Action', in which six actresses go through a training course for action stunts. Looks like fun, but nobody is doing Eng Subs or even posting an HD version on the Internet.
Interesting point: Shi Young is, at 33, the youngest of the six actresses on the show. Not a token Kpop Idol in sight. The oldest actress is fifty.
Sad point: the video was apparently shot and edited by a drunk. In most of the first episode, the tops of everyone's heads are cut off in all the shots. Must have been a low budget show.

I'm on ep 8 (half way through the series), have been seriously considering dropping out... the plot is getting on my nerves. Hate the "found you, but got into a fight and they took you away; found you a second time, got into another fight and you taken away; found you again... ut oh.. nope...missed it... found you nth time..."... you get my drift...
Maybe I'll just jump to the last ep and get this over with.
