Healer: Episode 14

Oof. It’s a wrenching episode, taking us on a roller coaster ride of wild emotional ups and downs. Our hero has to grapple with some weighty, nearly unbearable, burdens, struggling to make sense out of the insensible. Thankfully for him, he isn’t as alone in the world as he thinks he is—and thankfully for us, roller coasters have upswings to counter the violent downs. Up, up, and away!

EPISODE 14 RECAP

Teacher dies. Jung-hoo arrives at the station in time to see his body being wheeled out to an ambulance, and his knee-jerk reaction is to charge at the scene furiously.

Dae-yong and several buddies are thankfully on hand to hold him back, though it’s a struggle. He flings them aside a few times, but they manage to prevent him from being spotted and drag him out of sight. It’s a good thing, too, because Detective Yoon just misses spotting Jung-hoo, keeping Healer undetected for the time being.

Dae-yong blocks Jung-hoo’s path to the car, and Jung-hoo slumps down against it, suddenly weakened. He reels, physically winded.

Then he gets in the car anyway, shoving Dae-yong aside, and drives off. Gah, not in that condition!

Min-ja is just as devastated by the news, and answers Dae-yong’s call with a heavy heart. But she pulls herself together to address the problem of their rogue Healer. So she puts in a phone call to Moon-ho, not bothering to introduce herself; she doesn’t need to, because the second she drops Teacher’s name, Moon-ho’s all ears.

Jung-hoo storms into the hospital with a single-minded goal, and his rage provides a tunnel vision that makes him think nothing of beating down the poor doctors who get in his way. He gets to the morgue efficiently—but once there, he hesitates, trembling in trepidation.

As soon as Moon-ho arrives at the hospital, Detective Yoon recognizes him and stops him to ask a few questions. Moon-ho’s got bigger concerns right now, but he can’t just shake off the curious cop.

Jung-hoo enters the exam room and has difficulty approaching the body, his hands shaking as he draws back the sheet. One look at Teacher’s face is all he needs, and the tears spring forth immediately, even as he says, “It’s not true, right? I remember how you played a trick on me last time just like this, you know. So get up. Teacher.”

He asks pleadingly, but reality is slowly setting in. Slowly, Jung-hoo sinks to the ground in a crouch.

Detective Yoon leads Moon-ho down to the morgue, and along the way they encounter the unconscious orderly in the hallway. While the detective calls for help, Moon-ho hurries forward to the morgue ahead of him—but when he arrives, the exam room is empty.

Moon-ho moves to draw the sheet over Teacher’s head, but pauses—this must be the first time in over a decade that he’s seen his hyung’s face. He wells up with tears.

When the detective asks how he knows Teacher, Moon-ho replies that this man was like family to him. Tears dripping down his face, Moon-ho leans over the body and promises, “Hyung, I’ll take care of this now.”

His reaction to the supposed Healer’s death naturally makes the detective wonder, and I’m hoping this doesn’t signal complications for Moon-ho… even though it totally will, right? Detective Yoon calls for reinforcements to beef up his investigation, and anticipates that they’ll have “guests” dropping in to get Teacher’s statement. They’ll have to set a trap.

As Jung-hoo drives off, he thinks back to earlier days with Teacher, such as the time he’d proudly presented Jung-hoo with home-cooked birthday soup (which did not go well). Then there was the time Jung-hoo had presented Teacher with his high school equivalency certificate and “won” a promised briefcase from the Teacher (which was full of porn, HA).

A car overtakes him on the road, then screeches to a halt in front of him, forcing Jung-hoo to stop. Jung-hoo tries to drive around it, but Moon-ho literally puts himself in front of the car, then grabs to hold Jung-hoo back while explaining that a woman called to tell him he’d be coming this way. And that he’d be out to kill.

Moon-ho blocks his path with his body and pleads, “Don’t do it! Don’t! You’d become a murderer because of bastards like that? Why?!” Moon-ho continues to try to stop Jung-hoo, who keeps knocking him aside, not giving up even after receiving several hard blows. Jung-hoo isn’t so far gone that he’ll seriously hurt Moon-ho, though, and stops himself from delivering a severe punch. Moon-ho gasps out that his teacher wouldn’t have wanted him to do this.

Jung-hoo asks in frustration what he has to do, and Moon-ho’s promise to figure something out isn’t good enough—he needs something now. He bursts out that he’s like this because there’s nothing he can do, so he demands that Moon-ho tell him something.

Moon-ho yells back that he’s felt this way for the past twenty years, fighting the frustration of being unable to do anything. Oof, you know, that is a very good point.

“So just give me a little time,” Moon-ho asks. “I’ll find a way.”

But now Jung-hoo turns the blame inward: “I called Teacher here. He didn’t want to come, but I called him. I made him talk about things he didn’t want to talk about, and got angry when he did. And because I was angry, even though he was here for the first time in eight years, we didn’t eat a single meal together. But that damned old man…”

Jung-hoo’s really struggling, and Moon-ho tells him to go ahead and cry. Instead, Jung-hoo bellows his frustration, then gets back in his car. Moon-ho blocks his car door and swears to take down every single evildoer and make them pay for their crimes, asking Jung-hoo to trust him.

Jung-hoo asks, “How? Aside from stopping me, what can you do?” Moon-ho doesn’t have an answer, and he finally steps back. Jung-hoo drives off.

Moon-shik receives reporters at home for an interview, now that he’s a mayoral candidate, and Myung-hee keeps up appearances as the loving wife in front of the cameras. But her face is stony when she listens to Moon-shik giving his interview, as he laughs how it’s both his strength and weakness that he’s exactly the same on the inside and outside: “I can’t hide a thing!”

Young-shin is puzzled when she can’t get a hold of Bong-soo. The boys were at her place all night working, and he supposedly only stepped out to go running, but never returned. Reporter Yeo points out that Bong-soo has a habit of running away in fear at nighttime or at dawn, and speculates that he must’ve seen something that scared him off… insinuating that Young-shin spooked him with her behavior, ha.

He and Editor Jang look at her expectantly for an explanation of what she did to run him off, but she doesn’t have to give one since Moon-ho arrives to explain Bong-soo being absent today.

Young-shin proposes to Moon-ho that they interview Moon-shik, saying that she’d like to tell him directly that they find his past shady so they can get his response to it. The problem is that he might decline a request for interview, so she asks Moon-ho to pull some strings, since he’s his brother.

“From today, he isn’t,” Moon-ho replies, startling her. “I’ve decided that Kim Moon-shik and I are not brothers. Not anymore.”

Despite the surprise, Young-shin doesn’t ask questions, saying merely that she’ll try getting the interview on her own. She admits to a particular interest in the wife, having read about how amazingly close the spouses’ relationship is. She allows that Moon-ho knows his brother and must have good reason to consider him unfit for office—but perhaps a man who is so devoted toward one woman all his life isn’t all bad. At the very least, she’d like to meet the wife and draw her own conclusions. Moon-ho agrees to think about it, which she takes as a positive sign.

She asks if he talked to Bong-soo, and he just says that he must be out with a cold. Young-shin starts texting Bong-soo, but deletes each attempt. First she asks “Bong-soo-ya” if he’s sick, and then she asks more formally, “What is your name?” Finally she sets the phone aside, not texting after all.

At her desk, Min-ja sets a shot of soju before a photograph of Teacher and asks him to wish her luck—she’s about to resurrect some long-dormant superpowers. Then she gets to business, unleashing her full hacker skills on her keyboard, which soon goes detected by the police department. Detective Yoon races to his terminal to get in on the action, recognizing the hacking pattern, a look of gleeful anticipation on his face as he counters.

Flashback: Min-ja is the lead cop on a stakeout, with a young Detective Yoon weathering the brunt of her rebukes as she outlines the importance of the case they’re working on. They have to wait for a warrant to be issued before charging in, but until then they have to make sure their targets don’t catch wind and delete their computer files.

While they’re waiting, Min-ja takes a call with her irate husband, who screams, “You call yourself a mother?!” It’s because she won’t leave the stakeout, although Detective Yoon overhears and urges her to go, because her four-year-old is in the hospital after yet another surgery. Just then the warrant is issued, and Min-ja orders her team into action, choosing work again.

In the present, Detective Yoon springs the trap. But Min-ja outmaneuvers him, freezing the system while she downloads the files she needs.

This hack brings back more painful memories, and the next flashback shows her husband accusing her of not being a mother, because she wasn’t there when her child died. Making things even worse, her police boss issues orders from above to cover up the case and delete those hard-earned files after all.

Well, it’s no wonder she quit the force after that. Ajumma raises a sardonic toast to Teacher and drinks.

She hacks into the Healer pad to tell Jung-hoo that she got Teacher’s recorded statement, which sounds to her like a message meant for Jung-hoo. Jung-hoo watches Teacher’s video, where Teacher says that he never gave too much thought to the jobs he took on, but ought to have. If he had, those thoughts could’ve been his signboard, directing him where to go when he felt lost, warning him of cliffs or construction ahead, or to turn around.

When asked whether he murdered Go Sung-chul on commission, Teacher replies that he doesn’t accept those jobs:

Teacher: “If a person kills another person, they become inhuman. You should die a person. That way, you can reunite with those people you want to see again, those who left before you. There’s one thing I regret: I should have quit from the start.”

That’s when Teacher turns away from the detective and faces the camera instead: “Give it up. Go live with the woman you love, raising two kids, a dog, two cats, a few goldfish. I should have.”

Shaken and confused, Jung-hoo can only ask in a small lost voice, “Why?”

Ajumma advises Jung-hoo to honor Teacher’s dying wishes, and offers to make him a new identity, or to solidify Bong-soo’s. But Jung-hoo says heavily, “It’s too late. She already knows everything. Who I am.”

Then he corrects himself: “No, not everything. She doesn’t know that being with me will bring her pain. That it might even kill her.” He ignores ajumma’s barrage of questions, saying that there’s nothing he can do but sleep.

So he sets out unplugging all his computers, pulls the battery out of his phone, removes his watch and ring, and heads for bed. Checking out of life for the time being.

Moon-ho drops by the ABS station, and although his former boss Min-jae is still peeved at him for the press conference stunt, she agrees to a chat. Moon-ho apologizes for putting her in a bad position, then explains how a close hyung recently died, and that he thinks he knows who killed him. Then there’s another guy who used to be close to him in childhood, who has been out of touch for three days.

Min-jae’s understandably frosty with him and tells him impatiently to get to the point. Moon-ho’s answer is a bit surprising—that she is the only name saved in his phone as a friend, and today he’s here to talk to a friend. “Because I have nobody to talk to.”

Min-jae notes that despite Moon-ho’s image as a fearless figure, she knows he’s actually the opposite: “You only ever fight when you won’t get hurt. You run away when you meet someone frightening, using an appropriate excuse.” She tells him it’s nothing to be ashamed of, however, “Since we’re all like that.”

Young-shin and Jong-soo get busy working on the Moon-shik story, and in between interviews she tries to track down Bong-soo at home using his resumé address, which turns out to be nonexistent. She sends him messages chiding him for skipping work when they’re short-staffed, her voicemails going from concerned to stern to threatening, warning that he’s missed his forgiveness window.

But by the fifth day, her voice is scared as she sits in the dark, asking, “Did I… do something wrong? Is it because I said I would wait that you can’t come? Should I have said I wouldn’t wait… that you shouldn’t worry? Should I cancel what I said?”

ABS schedules a talk with Moon-shik as a live broadcast, and Moon-ho decides to use that as Someday’s next broadcast. As soon as Moon-shik answers a question on air, within the next ten minutes, Someday will counter that answer.

Of course, that requires them to know what questions will be asked. But Moon-ho knows his brother will only answer questions that have been prepped in advance, and turns to his spy, asking if he’d like to be a double agent. Jong-soo would NOT, thank you very much, but really, there’s no refusing. He nervously agrees.

Moon-ho finds Young-shin still huddled in the dark, and she jumps up guiltily. He asks for her phone, and she assumes she’s in trouble and promises not to make any more personal calls on the job, only to have him punch in a number—it’s Myung-hee’s. He gives permission to use his name in asking for an interview, and Young-shin excitedly hurries off to make the call.

At home, Myung-hee heads into her husband’s empty office and tries opening his desk drawers. They’re locked shut, to her disappointment—but she catches a glimpse of something mounted to the underside of the desk. A button.

She presses it, and bookshelves slide open to reveal the secret space behind it, where the hidden TV screens are mounted. That’s when she gets Young-shin’s call, and more surprising than her request is the news that Moon-ho is her boss at Someday—all this while, she thought he was still at the broadcast station. Wow, she has really been kept cut off from the world.

Myung-hee’s also surprised that Moon-ho would have given her number to a reporter, as he knows that she doesn’t meet people. But she likes the sound of Young-shin’s voice and asks for time to consider, and Young-shin thanks her enthusiastically.

Min-ja sends Dae-yong on the rounds to track down all of Jung-hoo’s vehicles, trying to pinpoint his whereabouts. But everything looks untouched, and Min-ja deduces that this means Jung-hoo isn’t moving at all, which suggests he’s holed himself up at home. Dae-yong offers to go in person, but Min-ja says that even if she showed up there, she couldn’t get inside without Jung-hoo’s permission.

Next thing you know, ajumma charges into the Chae family cafe (yesssssssss) like she owns the place, ordering ajusshi to open half an hour early and demanding a female server. Haha. I love how she doesn’t explain a thing, and just lets them think she’s a weirdo.

Min-ja imperiously motions Young-shin aside to take her order, and Young-shin complies, despite her bafflement. Once Young-shin sits down, ajumma asks if she recognizes her voice, and repeats her words from her previous call to jog her memory.

Young-shin gasps upon recognition, suddenly alert and pelting her with questions. She says that Bong-soo’s been unreachable for days, her worry obvious.

Ajumma asks for her phone and links it to a device, fiddling with it as she tells her that Bong-soo’s been immobile for six days, probably not eating. She’s certain he won’t let her in, which leaves one option: to force him to open the door himself.

Understanding what she’s getting at, Young-shin asks tearfully, “Is he… okay? Is he not okay?” (I notice she’s now calling him “that person”—her way of referring to the Healer—instead of Bong-soo.) She grabs ajumma’s hand and begs her to tell her where to find him.

Ajumma notes Young-shin’s vehement reaction and replies, “I had to see your eyes.” Then she hands her back the phone, all the information there at her fingertips.

Young-shin follows the directions to Jung-hoo’s building, her lock-picking skills coming in handy in getting past the first locked door. She heads up the elevator, through the dilapidated warehouse floor, up some crumbling stairs, and to a seeming dead end. There’s nowhere to go from here, but the signal on her phone indicates that this is where she should be.

So Young-shin starts tapping on the walls and calling out for Bong-soo. Getting no response, she pulls out her tools and finds a stethoscope, using it to listen through the wall… and then she hears something click. A sign dangling on the opposite wall moves, and when she moves it again, the wall springs open.

Cautiously, she steps inside the inner lair—and there he is, in bed, looking half-dead.

Young-shin races to his side, and as she reaches to call for an ambulance, Jung-hoo’s eyes slowly open. She tells him gently, “Bong-soo-ya, I’m here.”

He sighs, “Daebak.” Which, all things considered, is hilarious. He reaches his hand out to touch her face, wondering at this dream. He murmurs that he’s cold, and at that she climbs in bed with him and cradles his head in her arms. It’s incredibly sweet. And as she holds him close, he snuggles into her side.

Some time later, he wakes up, alone in bed. Young-shin comes up holding a ladle (and are those his clothes she’s wearing?), holding it out for him to taste.

He struggles to get up, not at all happy to see her. She disregards his displeasure and informs him that she’s put in a personal day at work and intends to stay till tomorrow, and that he’ll eat her cooking whether he likes it or not.

He tells her wearily that this is no place for her, and that she should leave: “Forget this place, and don’t come back.”

His demeanor is cold and uninviting, and Young-shin looks at him intently and asks if this is the real him. Bong-soo didn’t talk like that, “But you’re a little scary.” She informs him that it’s dark and late, so she’ll leave tomorrow if he wants.

Ignoring his surliness, Young-shin sets him up comfortably and presents him with dinner. His mood darkens further as he grabs Young-shin’s things, thrusting them at her and pushing her toward the exit.

She whirls out of reach, refusing to leave, and he’s frankly too weak to do much else. Staggering closer, he asks in exasperation, “Why do you have so little fear?”

She replies, “I’m not afraid of you.” He points out that he’s hiding more from her than she could even guess, and she answers, “I don’t care.” He fires back, “Are you an idiot?”

“Don’t send me away,” she says. “If you send me away, you’ll cry forever.”

He says bleakly, “I could get you hurt.” She shakes her head, full of certainty: “No, you won’t get me hurt. Never.”

He struggles with himself, then grabs her wrist to drag her out. But she stops him, turning him toward her and pulling him into a hug. “Don’t send me away,” she asks again.

Jung-hoo’s face crumples in tears, and then he buries his face in her neck and grabs tight.

She holds him like that for a long moment, and then pulls back to wipe his tears from his face. She kisses him.

COMMENTS

So many things to write about, and they’re not even about that kiss! (Although, eeee, that kiss!)

I was really happy with where this episode took Moon-ho—even as far as yesterday I wasn’t sure what direction he would ultimately take, but today solidified his place standing alongside the Healer. I know he’d declared his intention to work together in the last episode, but it took seeing his old hyung cold and dead on that slab to finally cut the cord, and to realize that his brother had in fact crossed the line fully, that he couldn’t spare him from justice. I don’t think he was necessarily waiting for his brother to redeem himself, but he had enough hope that he wasn’t so far gone.

So now that he knows Moon-shik would (and has) killed, he’s finally ready to take the stand he’s been waffling on taking for the past twenty years. Moon-ho really is the linchpin in this entire story, because even now he possesses more information than anybody else, and it isn’t until he makes the decision that our mother-daughter reunion can start on its path. I suppose if he had had his brother’s ambition his kind of masterminding might be an ominous thing, but as Min-jae rightly points out, Moon-ho is actually rather timid. Good-intentioned, but lacking the courage to fight the big fight.

I guess that’s why he needs Healer and Young-shin on his team to see through the final takedown of the Elder. And while it sucks to have Jung-hoo so shaken by the loss of Teacher, it’s the perfect narrative catalyst to bring them together—because till now, they’ve shared the general stance of being anti-Moon-shik, but differed in their personal motivations. Jung-hoo doesn’t care about the Elder beyond what he does to people he loves, so he isn’t swayed by Moon-ho’s appeals for greater justice. Now, though, Teacher’s death provides a link, and I’m excited to see how these two work together from here on out. One brotherly bond may be severed, but who says another one can’t be formed? (As for the baddies, we’re still unclear on what exactly the Elder does, but based on what we know thus far, I’m imagining a shadow society of elites who manipulate all aspects of society to benefit themselves—I’m thinking Kishokai of Gaksital, for instance.)

I loved how the show depicted Jung-hoo’s reaction to losing Teacher, which felt real and raw, and bolstered by acting that totally made me cry along with the characters. There was an immediacy to Jung-hoo’s grief that I found powerful, and am so happy to see Ji Chang-wook become this character so wholly.

More than the kiss itself (although again, eeee!), I was moved by Jung-hoo’s reaction to Young-shin’s stubborn insistence on staying with him—the anger, confusion, fear, and eventual acceptance. Most of the time, noble idiocy in dramaland arises when a character pushes someone away “for their own good” in a situation where that angst is unnecessary, hence the idiocy part of the term. But it’s not noble idiocy when the reasons are credible, and it makes perfect sense that Jung-hoo’s reaction to losing one of the last loved ones in his life is to shut down entirely, especially when he blames himself for that death.

The heartbreaking thing is that the Teacher did totally die for him, indirectly; I don’t think he knew he was going to die, but you get the sense that Teacher would willingly do it again and feel it was worth the cost. He wasn’t able to protect the baby bears through the end of their lives, but he made good on his promise by protecting them through the end of his. But to Jung-hoo, all he sees is that people around him die, and that’s devastating in a twofold way: first, he costs good people their lives, and second, he then has to live in a world where they’re dead.

So he’s become deathly afraid of building any sort of meaningful relationship, because every time it burns him, it cuts deeper and deeper. Yet in comes charging this girl who refuses to let him bully her away, informing him that she will stay put, and refusing to accept his fear of hurting her. Moreover, she isn’t about to let him sink into self-ruin, and insists on taking care of him. Young-shin is totally badass in all the best ways, and she just keeps getting better.

I love how he sees her next to his bed and sighs that it must be a dream, and only in his half-conscious state does he allow her to come close. Despite the fact that they totally got to snuggle in bed together, I appreciate that the scene wasn’t sexy in the least, but more poignantly sweet, letting our damaged hero find some comfort while his guard is lowered. When he’s fully awake, you can see how much he wishes he could believe her while his head warns him not to… but thankfully for all of us, there’s only so much denial you can handle before you cave and have to accept it already. (Accept the truth, kisses and all!) Somehow it feels fitting that he gets to be with his girl against the backdrop of his imagined paradise, ’cause I think he’s doing just fine where he is in his reality, once he finally allows himself his honesty.

You're welcome :) I always find it hard to find good sites for Healer and JCW too so it's always great for me to find links that people post here at DB. And I thought since everyone shares all the goodies here, I should too :) I'm lucky because DSF was popping up a lot on my Tumblr account so I decided to read her blogs and loved every single one of them. isn't it?? the song fits perfectly, and it's like the cab was singing about JH :D
i love it myself, even if there are many new FMVs with healer and great songs that also fit.
when it gets to that "i want to live, not just survive" chorus line, though, i always get the shivers. that's JH's life story in one line - NOW he's met YS. before... hum, who knows :D

Love that there are so many comments and support for this show. It's well deserved - in just 14 episodes this show has already had more payoff of compelling intrigue, action and romance than most 20+ episode dramas. Ji Chang Wook is dreamy, dreamy, dreamy. 'Healer' is brilliant and I am breathlessly waiting to see what happens next!

Yes isn't it amazing that lots of what we Healer Lovers have been wishing for has or is coming true? I was mentioning too that since he had sung for other of his shows (and since he is soooo obliging and hardworking) they would probably get him to sing for Healer too. I'm so excited and eager to hear what song they'll give him. Another one for my phone and all my laptops and PCs LOL!

I get the feeling it'll be another sad ballad. Even if I want something different for him for a change, those are his forte.

Anyway, I just wanna hear his voice! I don't even care if he raps or whatever. Lol.

Actually a sad ballad or any ballad seems very in tune with his character. Jung Hoo's was never a very boisterous or lively sort of personality. A ballad goes well with the poignant feel of so much loss and hope. :)

In fact, I'm starting to get a bit scared. This almost seems to good to be true...I mean, pretty much everything I've dreamed about has happened! This has to be some sort of trick, LOL.

@Omomo

I do think that I saw on another page that it will be a sad ballad. I'd like to hear another type of song from him too, but I do think that this kind of song fits the drama and his character at this stage so I don't mind too much.

Yes! Since we know the words they are speaking by heart, it's great to watch without the subtitles. No distractions at all. I have never replayed one scene so many times in my life. I thought I was bad with the end of Faith! That ending drove me nuts. I had to replay it about 20 times to catch the hint of a smile and happiness in eyes of Lee Min Ho to realize it was all good. But this scene from the last few minutes of Healer 14??? OMG - I swear I'm wearing out my iPad, my iPhone, my desktop Mac at home (let me tell you about the glory of JWC's face on a 27" HD screen!)...then, of course there is my computer at work. I wonder whether Teacher's interrogation video will be used one more time. There are many speculations about who must die to turn Moon-shik. Maybe having him watching the entire video will work? Psychologically speaking, ordering someone killed is different from killing someone yourself, different from watching your victim die, and different from watching your former buddy being killed.

turn from what? he chose this. he was the one sending secretary oh to "deal" with both healer and the man with the item in ep 1. he was the one deciding who to off and who to let live for another day.

i don't see him being lenient just because teacher was his friend, long ago. and teacher wasn't around for the period when KMS went from one-sided love to obsession and killing or justifying killing to get the women he's obsessed with...

i only wonder if he can go to the point of threatening or taking action against MH, cause he wouldn't even blink when condemning JH or YS...

It has not been shown unequivocally that MS ordered his friend killed. Secretary Oh takes orders from MS and Elder, with Elder coming first.

Is it clear that MS's actions back in 1992 was truly based on jealousy/obsession?

Moon-shik doesn't believe Teacher was Healer. Jung-hoo is still investigating. Will there be a direct attempt on Jung-hoo? Will we know for sure by whose order?

healer was something KMS would know about, from their old days (if MH who was a kid at the time knew about it, KMS definitely knew too. maybe MH got the old papers from KMS himself). it would make sense he'd think teacher was involved somehow - why would he be on that rooftop when the SS goons were chasing healer?
maybe he doesn't buy it that teacher STILL was the nowadays healer, but he can't pass on the possibility.

JH being a possible healer - a duplicate - is also something that KMS could consider. in the old days there were 5 friends doing the secret radio stunt, why should there only be one healer? if i was him, i'd consider the possibility that teacher and JH were in it together.

he already did order something to be done about healer - when he didn't know it was JH. and after he learned about JH being in korea, he immediately set a trap for healer baiting it with JH's mom. he caught teacher, but teacher would have known her too, so the answer is not what KMS expected but also not ruling JH out completely. he said it himself - he either possesses the healer on his side, or makes him disappear so no one else's side could use him. possession seems to be the ruling word when it's about KMS - he wanted myung-hee, and he kept her medicated after she could have been weaned off it. if he still wants JH, he'll come for him no matter what.

as for elder... he doesn't seem too involved in KMS's business. yes, they meet and talk and set things up, but it's all business for elder. as long as it's not unproductive, he'd call a hit on healer. but i don't see him doing it for spite or revenge and if the the healer team plays its cards safe, they could make it that attacking JH would be more costly for elder than just letting him be.

still this is dramaland, everything and anything is possible :D

@shelly

I don't know whether I should generalize based on his attempt on Young-shin/Ji-an. Secretary Oh was present the entire time when Moon-shik met Teacher and heard everything. He assists MS while spying on him, I think. If I do generalize, Elder would definitely take the liberty to tidy up loose ends from MS's past.

Not so sure about Myung-hee's being deliberately medicated to keep her in a foggy mental state. Once you start doubting the person you've trusted completely, you begin to suspect everything. Locked drawers and "hidden" video screens aren't all that unusual for a business/media mogul.

Like you said, it's drama. Often hard to tell whether something has significance or not.

0

Moon-shik needs to turn because

1. If JH's father being a murder suspect was mostly due to MS lying, the interrogation file may tell what happened and may not be enough to exonerate him. MS must recant.

2. Excluding authoritarian regimes and dictatorships, bringing down powerful syndicates like Elder Inc. with only external pressures (media and law enforcement) is very unlikely. There is always a top-level informant or whistle-blower. It must be done in such a way to make their allies in law enforcement/government unable to obstruct the investigations. The easiest way (too easy and lacking any dramatic flair) I can think of is MS spilling the beans while being interviewed by Young-shin/Ji-an and Jung-hoo.

oh, i don't think they're so ambitious. at this moment they're looking at KMS only, elder is just a blimp on the radar. i don't see they want to bring down an organization they know basically nothing about - omega was named a few times, with not a lot of specifics.

and elder needs to get away because we need a second season of healer :D

Thus, doing so spur-of-the-moment live and publicly. They can kill him but it will already be all over the media.

0

@Snickers: i admit all i know about korean practice of law is based on IHYV - which was certainly not the best source of info, lol.

once someone says something it's one way, but has no proofs (or dies before he shows his proofs to the authorities) does it become usable in a trial? because i expect no one is going to go hunting guns ablazing in korea, even against a mafia-like organization. they'd need a trial. and where's the proof, is it something like "i say, you say"? a dead KMS can't be a witness, and if someone less survives to speak of it, elder can always find more credible witnesses to clear him.

0

I'm not familiar with Korean laws either.

In my state in US, after witnesses recant AND DA's office accepts it, that is pretty much it. I don't think a judge even examines the veracity of the new statements before signing off on the prisoner's release.

The only thing with Ajumma hacking to get large quantity of evidence is that will they be admissible in court? Again, in the US, informant/whisle-blower provided evidence is fine, but illegally obtained evidence provided by an unknown source? I don't know.

If Moon-shik were to turn, he'll be methodical and well-prepared. That is who he is. Ultimately, only the writer knows how things end. All we can do is speculate.

0

When I say spur-of-the-moment, I mean Elder Inc. won't see it coming.

0

ahjumma hacking the organization's computers for info wouldn't be so that they get proof in trial, but to let all dealings out in the open. it wouldn't touch the organization so much as the ones using it lol.

like that would-be mayor of seoul who elder couldn't wait to wash his hands of as soon as a hint of scandal emerged. even if the bad guys are still in place after the house of cards goes down, if all people who are their support in politics or economical places would go down because of that info. and then where would that organization be? if i were a corruptible politician the elder would approach after something like this went down, i'd be so fast out of there he wouldn't know how i teleported myself lol.

then again, if KMS turned and was prepared to spill, if i were elder, i'd also be prepared for damage control. why is secretary oh there for, if he's also the elder's watch dog? he would see the tactics, depending on how much KMS is letting on... and they always had MH on the radar, and KMS was pacifying them about him. they know the two won't meet unless it's requested by myung-hee or they can't escape it... wouldn't they get suspicious if the two started getting closer?

there are a lot of possibilities, and with so little time left, i guess we're about to see things moving fast :D

0

@shelly

I guess MS will turn when he's confident that he can outmaneuver his teacher. It's interesting that although Teacher was responsible for Jung-hoo becoming a thieve, his dying wish was for JH to give up such life. Moon-shik's teacher would throw MS under the bus if necessary.

MS might have be able to do a good job of damage control with Assemblyman Kim. I felt Elder discarded him too quickly. On one hand, everyone is disposable. (On the other hand, the drama itself was changing direction.) President Hwang was a credible source to discredit Assemblyman Kim and Elder Inc. made certain all of Kim's dirty laundry was out. Can allegations from unknown sources be as credible?

Is YS still working on President Hwang's "suicide" to clear Healer? Obviously she knows nothing of Teacher taking the fall as Healer. Will someone tell her not to bother?

0

I believe Moon-ho swore to JH that he will bring them all down, including all their backers. No one has a clue because it's not like they teach you in school how to bring down deep, well-connected, powerful syndicates.

After Elder Inc. falls, another nefarious group will rise to fill the power vacuum and be the Big Bad in the second season of Healer.

i still don't see KMS as the turncoat. rather ahjumma will hack her way inside the omega org. computers and make them send their data over to the police and newspapers and news stations and the internet and wherever it can't be buried from sight lol.

and seriously, KMS is not going to turn over, even if he repents (which i doubt). he did turn reluctantly when gil-han died and myung-hee was hospitalized, but since then he was in the shadow and stood there for 20 years. he didn't want to accuse JH's dad, but he did decide all by himself not to go after ji-an when she disappeared from his car. that was all on him.

how did myung-hee end up all broken, by the way? she wasn't supposed to be with the men when they went to catch the baddies red-handed, right? was she injured as a threat to KMS to be a good boy and betray his friend?...

hmmm. so few eps left, so many unanswered questions...

I'm a person who usually cries easily while watching dramas but only if the scene is really sad or if it's a sad ending. But I found myself crying sooo hard in the first part of this episode mostly at the scene where Healer is at the morgue and at the flashbacks of Healer and Teacher.
Also Ji Chang Wook's acting was sooo good in this episode that his hurting looked sooo real that it made me cry.

Also what I liked is that we got flashbacks of Ajumma and we saw how her life was also sad and hard.

I also can't wait to see the meeting of of Chae Yong and her mom.

I think that's important that Moon Ho finally decided the path that he'll take from now because since the beginning we weren't sure which side he's at and I'm happy that it's Healers.

Of course the ending scenes with are lead couple were amazing. Their chemistry is just unbelievable and every time I see them together in a scene I start squeeing even though the scene may not be romantic.

And now waiting for the new episode comes back and it's especially hard when were left without preview. I just can't wait anymore and this is one of the rare dramas that made me go from tears to happiness in just one episode and I want more. I just can't believe that only 6 episodes are left and I'm already sad that I'll have to say goodbye to this amazing characters.

If only this drama could last forever!!! <333

@ zoer25

I too was saying if only this show had 100 episodes, that would take us to the end of the year. Then there would be no argument, the best show of the year and probably the only one some of us watch for the entire year LOLOL!

Although I cannot get enough of JCW and PMY together, we know that the show can only sustain it's goodness for as long as the story is good. This show is obviously as good as it is now, because it is written to be a 20 episode series and any change in the number of episodes will definitely impact it's quality, probably for the worse.

So although on the one hand I'd like this show to go on forever bringing us feels every week (actually that could be quite exhausting!!!! :D ) I'm also in agreement that it should end when it needs to end. :)

Hi ALL
I'm finally back on this rather dull/cloudy Sunday morning (for me).

I was wondering as a matter of interest what our total number of comments is like now with little less than 36 hours to go before Episode 15 airs. YES! only 35+ hours to get our fix.

In Comment 214, we had the COUNTDOWN AND RECORD BREAKING sub-thread that stated Record breaking target for this Episode is 2,362 comments. Which means we have 188 more comments at the time of my posting this. :)

We've also noticed that our comments now are even more substantial than they were before since we are commenting not to raise the comment count but because we have been thinking and want to share.

I have found this the most amazing thing about Healer. That it's quality and depth has done this to us ie made us love it so much that many of us feel we have to come out and express it, even if it's just once in a few words .... that no matter what has been said already, there's still so much more to think about and discover and derive from more discussion. Our interest and new insights into different aspects of this show seems able to continue for ages. Thus my continued interest in this comments count and my constantly returning to read whatever posts have come in.

Thanks to ALL for your sharing and insights. By your generosity, you've made watching and enjoying this show a most profound, richer, fuller, and unforgettable experience!! :)

So I'm a little confused. I know it been said before but K2H had three episodes where they had about 2300 comments and we are just trying to surpass them? Obviously one of the healer eps reached 4000. Specifically k2H had highest comment count at 2341,2301 and 2363. Right now we aren't too far from reaching 2300 and if that happens then would we just have another episode and hope the count goes over 2300?

Wait, I have to correct myself. Healer ep 12 reached 3,000 comment counts. So we just have hopefully this episode to break 2363 and healer would have officially beat records? Lol. I mean no matter what the comment counts, healer is still pretty awesome and king 2 hearts was too. But I just wanted clarification.

@ JCWlove and Teru

Thanks Teru for clarifying as well!! :)

@ JCWlove, yes we want to go beyond 3X to beat K2H so we want to go over 2,362 two more times.

Just in case you missed it ... here's what I did up in Comment 214 :)

Re-post from comment 214: "Record breaking target for this Episode:
– We broke the 2,362 record twice already. So next is to break the 2,362 comments record another 2 times (becos K2H broke it 3 times, LOL!) Details (From Ep 12 Recap Comment 402 from Bongsookie …)

– Once we’ve got beyond 2,362, we only have our own records to break. We can aim to go beyond 3,000 a 3rd time

AND / OR
– We can aim to break through our own 4,030 comments record! (Good luck to us!!! LOL!)

And remember, we don’t want to wipe out JB’s email inbox with comments only about comments, although I find that very funny and fun as well! Heheheh!"

So hope that's clear. :)

It's super amazing how I have so much to say about this drama. Im still talking and analyzing this drama. What makes this possible is because the writers have given us depth in the plot and the characters. We see these revelations unlike other dramas that don't have character development and are only one dimensional. For the most part, there are many wonderful characters in this drama regardless of them being good or bad.

These subtitles given for each episode is re-posted from Comment 268.2, 268.2.1 and 268.4 because they bear more thinking about and over here, more of us will read this ;)

@ fantasy, @ Alien and @ sungsta and I are suggesting what the subtitles refer to in each episode. Do you agree?

Episode 1 Subtitle: 'I have a dream' : from fantasy - JH looking at the island.

from sungsta - The 3 main characters may have started with their own individual dreams/goals (reaching moro moro island, finding mum, and finding the girl); but it all ends up being one dream – to resolve what happened to them in the past.

from gb - 'I have a dream' can also refer to the original dream of the 5 friends to fight the injustice of their society and to be healers.

Episode 2 subtitle 'Fate continues' : from fantasy - YS losing balance in bus and healer hold her

from Alien - .. add that for Ep 2, it is also the fact that he found his picture in CYS’s room and realized there was a deeper connection and fate with CYS than he expected (I believe that was episode two).

Episode 3. The first kiss : from fantasy - Obviously Moon Ho
from gb - yessss that sweet kiss that Moon Ho gave to baby Ji An

Episode4. Because I am next to you : Sleeping beauties ( YS and BS)

from gb - yes the fact that next to each other JH and YS can sleep peacefully. Also in the 'kidnapping by SS goons' because YS was next to PBS as his sunbae she told him to run while she tackled the SS Goons, much to his amazement! And because of that and his promise to YS's father, he disregarded advice to run and instead went back to fight the goons and to be beside YS as she had her panic attack.

Episode 5. Meaning of you: from fantasy - Of course the last scene YS helped BS to escape and saved him (LOL)

from gb - Healer thinking how Young Shin is not like a myriad other people but different and full of spunk against bad odds/amidst her fear. Also maybe to do with YS trying to figure out why Healer is helping her.

Episode 6. Begin : from fantasy - Obviously YS confession ( superb acting by PMY)

from sungsta - In addition to the beginning of the JH & YS relationship, also the beginning of MH’s fight against MS by joining someday news.

from gb - Yes, YS calls PBS for the first time and later he calls her and she starts confiding in him immediately. It was the beginning of a deep, comfortable relationship, for a girl whom her dad said never had any friends (her age).

7. We under the sunset : from fantasy - 1st conversation with HEALER

from sungsta - 3 very different feeling sunsets; A) the sad and poignant sunset with the 5 friends, heralding the beginning of their end; B) the romantic sunset with YS & JH, with their relationship poised to rise the next day; C) the “passing of an era” sunset wth Teach & Minja, where the responsibility for truth seeking is passed to the new generation

from gb - I agree with sungsta about all the sunsets. So poignant!!!! Also Teacher was supposed to meet JH to answer his questions before sunset but he did not.

8.Cannot be forgotten : from fantasy - Elevator accident and kiss

from gb - Myung Hee remembers Seo Jung Hoo and his mother. .... MS hears that YS had suffered as an orphan and sees the "ghosts" of Gil Han and Joon Seok so he definitely has not forgotten. .... Teacher remembers JS's birthday. ... and of course the unforgettable rescue and kiss in the first snow.

Episode 9. I trust you : from fantasy - Daddy and little Ji Ahn and phone conversation between YS and BS

from gb - Yes that wonderful open telephone conversation between YS and PBS who was on the roof, and Healer trusts YS with the hard disk video stolen from Hwang.

Episode 10. Can’t it be: from fantasy - Do I have to mention ???? BS confession and his nods ;)

11. In the darkness : Again no need to mention the date and holding

from gb - The revelations and hope of JH to Ahjumma in the tel. conversation at night, ""I want to talk. I want to tell YS that I'm a thief but to say my father is a murderer is too much. You told me if I can find a woman to follow me to the uninhabited island it would be OK. Then I could start ... I think YS is the one. I can tell her who I am and ask if she can come with me. AT first she will kick and hit me. I can take a few hits. But she'll g et over it. She'll sing a strange song. Dance an outrageous dance. She'll get over it quickly."

as a thief and son of a murderer... he feels he is in the darkness, perhaps and want to go with YS to the bright sunny island.

Episode 12. I don’t know how to escape: from fantasy - Trapped healer in basement

from sungsta - JH can no longer escape from his father’s past – he is now more vested than ever to prove his father’s innocence, for the sake of YS; Myung hee can’t escape from her past and from her husband’s deceptions; and YS can’t escape from JH’s hug, haha!

from gb - Hahaha yes to sungsta. Also JH has that wonderful conversation with Ahjumma, "I like CYS. So I'm preparing myself, even if I get hurt, there is nothing I can do. It's ok even if she does not know. I should be there for her. Don't tell me to run away. I don't know how to escape." *sighs and swoons*

Episode 13. I am waiting : from fantasy - Daddy and YS scene and JH’s hand a

from gb - Yes the scene JH at YS's place when he chooses between East or West, she gives him a chance to come clean and says she is waiting for 'that' guy.

Episode 14. It’s alright even if you cry : from fantasy - JH at morgue and conversation with Moon Ho

Yup Moon Ho used the words that Myung Hee said to him as a child to comfort JH. Another comment says how great it is for us to see how the past really has a part to play in the 'present' that we and the characters are shown to be the products of their histories/experiences.

I so agree with that. Wonderful writing!! :) So do you agree with the interpretation of these subtitles?

Thanks for posting this, I've been away from DB for a couple of episode due to commitments with RL and definitely won't have time to wade through the thousands of comments each since episodes 10, so thanks for reposting some of highlight comments. This one is interesting and I find every subtitle so fitting for each episode. Now looking at the whole lot at once...it's like it tells a story chronologically which I hadn't noticed before :)

I was thinking of Jung Hoo wanting to take Young Shin to his uninhabited island where there would be only the two of them. Then it struck me, as contrasting in looks as it is to his sunny island paradise that cold, dark Healer pad is also his "island" where noone can find him, noone can bother him (except when he allows by Ahjumma's occasional cackles, and let's face it, as much as he complains we now know he loves her and that relationship).

Anyway, the short time Yong Shin spent in his home is an indicator of how life would be on his island with her. She came uninvited and refused to leave but more importantly, she made herself home as soon as she came as if she knew he was wanting to invite her to his island. She started cooking in his kitchen (which probably didn't see any cooking since that birthday soup disaster many years ago), explored around enough to find where his clothes are and borrowed some to change into something more comfortable. So this is her invading his private island and refusing to leave, and he is loving every minute of it.

Yes, I don't think SJH knew that instead of escaping to an island in the other side of the planet could actually transform to CYS coming to his island of an abandoned warehouse. No matter where he goes, it will feel like paradise if CYS is with him. Can't wait until he realizes that an island without people is actually really lonely since he had created these bonds with other human beings that actually mean something to him.

@ JCWlove and Moonbean anf @ blo if you're reading!

What you've said here reminds me of a discussion @ blo and I had in Comment 202.1.1.1.1

@ blo was saying how Healer's hear was like his home - so many walls and locks to get through ...

" .... how he tries to protect his heart.

What struck me most in the flashbacks to Jung Hoo’s young adulthood is that he was an affectionate child/person. Even with Teacher’s rough upbringing through teasing and baiting JH, JH felt cared for and reciprocated with warmth and trust.

It is because he had been hurt so many times that he built walls with locked doors around his heart and looked to escape to his island. Inside his heart, although it seemed dark and cold, it was just a facade hiding the big, bright picture of that sunny island. JH probably did not realise that he had that sunny island full of the potential to love and give, inside him, until YS unlocked the door and slipped inside.

It is right and fitting that the only island he can and should take his girl away to, is the sunny one in his heart."

So we are thinking kinda alike!!! :D

@JCWlove

Off the top of my head- Hacker Ahjumma and Teacher. Why did Ahjumma visit Teacher 5 times in prison. They were not buddies, so for a serving police officer to visit a political prisoner that many times ought to mean something, doesn't it?

Will the reveal of that story also shed light on the "Min Ja" that the underground broadcasters shouted out for in ep 1?

Random thought - Teacher became Healer a year after his release from prison. That'd put his start year at '94. Was there a (human) Healer prior to that? Healer not in the sense of an errand boy Healer, but Healer in the publication sense - one who fights for free press, freedom of information, sense. Will the Show end with this issue? If it does, it would have come to a full circle, for it was those issues that the five friends struggled for all those years ago, yes?

I take it that Healer (before the courier business) referred collectively to the team of 5 rogue journalists. However, in Episode 5, in a conversation with Secretary Oh, Moon-shik said, "About the Healer…it’s a name that I’m used to. That’s what I used to call him. A long time ago."

The clear implication is that one of the other 3 guys in the team was the one that was specifically code-named Healer. It could be either Jung-hoo's dad or Teacher. Most likely the latter.

Regarding your comment about Ahjumma and Teacher:

I went back to Episode and, yes, there was a scene (during or after the team was chased by the police) when they were sending messages to a Min-joo or Min-jae. At least, that was the spelling in the sub-titled version I watched. Of course it cannot be Moon-ho's ex Min-jae. So it must have been Min-ja. And, knowing uri writer-nim's attention to details, it cannot just be a random name thrown out there?

Question: Is Ahjumma's past linked to just Teacher, or to the whole team?

@ dramabliss

1. Min Ja - a random name thrown out? Highly unlikely, by a writer who's attentive to details, as you've pointed out. Until ep 13, there was nothing to relate Hacker Min Ja to Shout out Min Ja. The dots between the two Min Ja started appearing in ep 14, but still without any certainty. We still have to wait a bit more to see if they both refer to the same person and whether it relates to just Teacher or all five friends.

2. Healer - this is exactly the Healer I was referring to in my post above, a pre-courier Healer - whether such a person actually existed and if yes, who? If that Healer existed, it must have been before '92 when the five friends were still together (except for Teacher who was doing time then). I remember MS speaking that name with a sort of wistful fondness, so it cannot be a post '92 Healer as from February '92, post "accident", the five friends' dynamics have changed drastically.

As to the possibility of who this pre-courier Healer was: -

- Teacher, but only if that Healer was active in '80 -'81 and not beyond coz Teacher was jailed in '81.
- Joon Suk - maybe, but no evidence as to this. Except for one line by JH when in either ep 4 or 5, JH threatened Hacker Ahjumma to introduce himself to MHee as "the son of Joon Suk who works as Healer". I tried to interpret it to mean Joon Suk works as Healer, only to later dismiss that notion thinking that a 6 year old can't possibly know that his father works as Healer and JH's line actually referred to himself as Healer,
- Hacker Min Ja - no evidence so far, but if true, will surely rock the boat! Hahaha...

I think I'm over thinking this. :-D

@ patinalee

Thanks for thinking through the two points with me.

Ahjumma being the pre-courier Healer - that indeed would be a deaeback subversion. However, MS's reference to Healer as "him"sort of precludes that.

Hello Healer-beanies and all HRUSGs!

I miss you guys and I'm so sorry for not coming back to DB for a couple of episodes - real life have gotten the best of me and my workload was toppling me over. I managed to survive of course :) I've been up to date with watching all episodes, and besides updating MDL account, I haven't been commenting here much. It's National holiday for me on Monday so yay! I get the day off which means more time with you guys too :D

I can't just come back without giving my thoughts to this show. By far, episode 12 and 14 are the best for me so far. Episode 12 had a brilliant pace in the story which left us hanging while episode 14 has the most satisfying OTP moment ♥ I love YS's character and the way she took the iniative in making the first move even when JH pushed her away. She is not your typical Kdrama heroine here and it's so refreshing to see. Ahjumma tops my favourite lists of Ahjummas out there for her character. I particular loved how she went to see YS herself to look at YS's eyes. She wanted to see YS's sincerity just like mother would do before giving her blessings to her son to marry his girl. And the funny part was when YS was like "you're Bongsoo's mother" and how she bluntly retorts that she's not a mother at all haha.

I couldn't think of much to say other than my thoughts are *ahsgdkek* after seeing episode 14. I'm squeeeeing too much, this writer really knows our hearts. We love her for giving us all we want in our OTP. And the best news I've heard all day? JCW singing for an OST!!! ♥♥

Sorry for the typos, I meant referendum*

0

@AnnaAkana

Yup you're correct, we used to have a trial for daylight savings I think during 2008-2009 to see if WA should also adopt it as well. I personally didn't like daylight savings so I voted 'no' at the referendum in 2009. I guess I'm used to our normal system here without having to add or minus an hour every time it's Winter or Summer. I find it annoying (my personal opinion lol). But even saying that, I remembered the decision was actually quite close, with slightly more than 50% voted 'no' while the rest voted 'yes'. Maybe in the future we'll probably have another referendum, but for now there's no daylight savings :)

It's now 5pm over on my side now so that must mean it's 8pm for you :)

Welcome back! I wish life had me all busy so I would be able to pass the days easily but nope, been on DB every second of my life possible, lol. Can't wait to hear his beautiful voice sing a song also! He's so great at ballads.

I was just talking to my sister who I got hooked on Healer and we were talking about how Healer has topped our list for many things: our favorite actor, our favorite OTP, the most chemistry between OTP, best heroine, best ajumma, best supporting cast, best hand holding, best kiss, best hug, best songs, etc. The list literally goes on.

PMY truly brought out the CYS character like none other. We are exciting to see what happens next and we also hope to see more of that beautiful and meaningful kiss at the end of ep 14!

His deep and velvety voice gives me goosebumps ♥ this is my favourite OST of his...

Ji Chang Wook - Fill Up (채운다) Five Fingers OST: http://youtu.be/GuJKn22JVK8

Haha sometimes I wish I'm not too busy because then I would love nothing more than to join everyone here squeeing :) I had been going on DB so much since episode 8-10 even through my busy life...but it caught up with me and I was falling behind. I guess I realised that once Healer ends, I still have my life to live so gotta set my priorities right and not fail at life haha...but that doesn't mean I haven't thought of you guys either. You're all in my thoughts while I'm working away. I keep thinking of Healer all the time (must be crazy LOL).

Yes I thought that kiss at the end was satisfying too even if it's short, because it's meaningful. YS's kiss was a reflection of how JH first kissed her. They were both saying more with actions than words. In episode 8, JH kissed her to not let hermisunderstand his sincere intentions, while here YS's kiss was to let him know that no matter who he is, she still loves him for him and that she would not ever leave him alone. She's there for him and that he shouldn't push her away :)

@Teru

I agree with your analysis of the kiss. It seems to be the theme with our OTP that actions speak louder than words. I mean they both kiss each other and was there for each other as well. I also love how it's not only their actions that showed their love for each other but how both of them are so straightforward in confessing their feelings too. There's no noble idiocy or ridiculous angst.

We're building up to the big reunion between Young-shin and her mother and I find myself REALLY curious how this will be handled. It's sure to be a doozy...or will it be a soft, slow dawning of recognition? What do you all think? Being the mother of an adult child, I was looking at my daughter in Los Angeles last weekend and wondering if I would recognize her at 28 if I hadn't seen her since age 5. When I haven't seen people in a long, long time, I find that I recognize people by their eyes. I am worried about Young-shin's mom's fragile physical and mental state with the shock.

Oh dear, I have to admit that when it comes to recognizing faces, I'm not at all good.

Thinking of it from YS's point of view... what can I remember from being 5 years old? Not much, but I'll remember the smell of my mum.

From Myung Hee's point of view .... although a mum can recall more about her kid's babyhood and childhood especially if that was the only child, it's hard to gel that with them as adults. My own kids have grown and changed so much, that it is very hard to look at them and say I'd definitely know it was them after 20 years of separateion. They behave so differently now. And at age 5, unless there was a very peculiar and lasting personality trait that shows up in adulthood, it will be hard to recognize my kids now.

How it plays out - there will be curiosity on the part of Myung Hee about YS and in her talk about being adopted etc, something might pique Myung Hee's curiosity so that she will try to find out more. The other thing is YS may have the opportunity to see the photographs of herself and her mum. It might register a long buried memory. And then our intrepid reporter cannot rest until she finds out why that photo bothers her. :)

@Lunatic4KD

I would like to see MHee knowing or at least seeing YS as a person as of her own right before the discovery of their mother and daughter link, that despite her early history of abandonment and abuse, YS has been raised in a loving home and has grown to be a warm, generous, jovial, trusting, happy, courageous, loving, wonderful, beautiful woman that she is. MHee need to see all that to assuage her tremendous guilt of having lost her long thought dead only child with a beloved deceased husband, even though the loss was without her fault. Guilt that brings about onsets of seizures whenever that child is mentioned, even after 22 years. MHee need to see happy adult YS to survive the reveal, to savour it and to fully embrace the return of a lost daughter. Without seeing or knowing how well the adult Ji An is doing now, the discovery that her daughter is alive may be too much of a shock for her and may even worsen her medical condition. MHee need to see YS, for even just her voice sounds pleasant to MHee. YS already has the ability to comfort MHee and must continue to comfort her after the reveal.

The show has MHee’s medical condition already factored into the mother/daughter reveal when JH asked Hacker Ahjumma to obtain MHee’s medical records for analysis for a possible mother/daughter reunion.

As to how the reveal would happen, perhaps the discovery of the common klutziness of both their forefingers can be a kick starter to the revealing query, YS cutting her finger on a can opening while MHee cuts her finger with her plants. And YS catching sight of JA‘s photo by MHee’s bedside - for the striking resemblance between the girl in that photo and the photo of young YS with both her adoptive parents, now at home, would be another trigger to the inquiry.

Anyway, that’s my take of the when and the how of the mother/daughter reunion. I’ve posted parts of it somewhere here before. Let’s see if writer nim will humour me, eh? :-D

Aah that kiss.... What I find sooo good is that in actual fact, if we think of 'steamy' scenes, they are very different ie the actors are dressed (or undressed) to steam up the place and behave *ahem* very steamily.... but in this case, the steam is all in us, yes in our minds, because JH and YS have in actual fact and on the face of it a very sweet, innocent kiss. However because we know of all that has gone on before, their struggles, needs and longings, this has become the steamiest of innocent love scenes! :D Just soooo great!

As YS did not find any visible knob or handle to unlock it she was looking for the inside handle having magnet in her one hand and stetho on the other. The magnet would click the magnet handle and stetho would help her to hear that sound of handle movement but to her surprise the metal sign plate moved which was outside...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3f1D-oSxJQU

I am amused that when asked to describe his charm in 5 words, he literally used his fingers to count and was thinking very hard of words LOLOL! In the end he did not know what to say! Sweet kid!

And he speaks of the musical "The Days" as healing. At this stage, I wonder if he had already received the script and offer to be in Healer! If he only knew that now we find Healer anything but healing, unless being in a frenetic state of anticipation each week is doing our hearts good???

Anyway, if you haven't watched this, enjoy JCW once again at his natural best. Looking a bit tired even in Oct 2014 but still ready to do his best at the photo shoot and interview. :)

Sub-thread: Dreamingsnowflake2013’s EPISODE 14 ANALYSIS - Ending Scene

~The love that never gives up~

"What kind of dream is this?" - JH

I’m not surprised by JH’s genuine bafflement at how such a state of affairs had suddenly come about - first he was “dreaming” about sleeping in YS’s embrace with his head resting on her breasts and now she appears in front of him wearing his clothes and shoes, clearly he is forgetting something important here. OK, kidding. My mind’s in a gutter again, which seems to be a permanent occurrence whenever these two are in a close proximity.

Before JH even realises it, YS has invaded his bachelor lair, making her presence already felt as she brings with her the image of warmth and domesticity to his cold, vast and austere home. It must have been more than 13 years since someone mollycoddled him like this - made a home-cooked porridge when he was ill, blew on his food and kept him warm… It’s sad to watch how ill at ease JH is when being treated with such consideration and care, as if the concept became completely foreign to him, as if the last time he was doted on like this had taken place in another lifetime. However, even more heart-wrenching is the moment when he’s watching her standing by the kitchen counter. It must be physically painful for him to watch her settling in his home so naturally as if it was the most normal thing in the world. It hurts him even more because he wants this so much, but at the same time he knows it’s something he can never have, and the longer she is staying there the more difficult it’s becoming for him to let her go.

When JH tries to chase YS away both from his home and life, it’s his last desperate attempt to protect her not only from his enemies but also from himself - to wrench her free from the man who brings death and misery to everyone he loves. His greatest fear is that the same fate would befall her - he would rather live in a world where she would live, while following her and protecting her silently from the shadows without any hope for himself, than being the cause of her suffering. I can’t even can’t blame him of being a noble idiot because his reasons are legitimate, but what JH doesn't realise in his grief-stricken stupor is that his enemies won’t stop trying to hurt YS even if he drives her away, that she needs him as much as he needs her because he is the only reason why she is still whole and alive - he’s been her guardian angel, always ready to catch her fall. Even if he gave her up, there are no guarantees in this world and if she died, he would regret every second he didn't spend with her.

(cont...)

"I could put you in danger." – JH

"You’ll never let me get hurt… never." – YS

Each retort JH snaps at YS is laced with pure self-contempt - JH sees himself unworthy of YS, a man who doesn’t deserve her - and he is hell-bent on pushing her away, believing she is better off without him. I love YS’s unwavering belief in JH’s goodness and her conviction with which she counters all his protests. She takes all his arguments why they can’t be together and tears them into shreds. This is the man who would never let her get hurt because it only took her faked whimper for him to release her hand in fear of hurting her; he is the man who saved her life multiple times while risking his own, he is the person who’s caught her every time she fell, he is the one whom she trusted with her deepest secrets and fears; she has already made her choice and she IS NOT GIVING UP ON HIM!

"Don’t you know who I am? You have no idea how much I’m hiding…You have no idea." – JH

JH feels that YS doesn’t know anything about him while he knows things about her even she herself doesn’t know. She has already told him her deepest secrets and fears, yet he keeps concealing so many things from her, leaving her in dark both about himself and about their past. This provides a huge dilemma for him - what to reveal and what to hide from her. He loathes himself for such dishonesty because he sees this lying by omission as the very same thing MH did.

@AnnaAkana, you're a gem for posting this - thank you :)

My thoughts on this with regarding YS, I don't think JH has to worry so much about lying to her. In this particular scene, we saw how YS doesn't care that he's hiding things from her. She knows it's for a good reason and she believes that he's doing it to protect her. Hence why she says she's not afraid of him and knows that he won't ever let her get hurt.

I think when the time comes and she finds out that Myunghee was alive, I doubt she'll be angry at JH for not telling her - given how she's already reassured JH that it's okay. It would be weird and out of character for her if the writer suddenly makes her angry and avoid JH when the whole truth (including JH's father) is revealed.

DSF's insight on this scene was beautifully written and it makes me come to understand all the characters more. I've just read her analysis on MS earlier on and safe to say although I thought MS was a tragic character I was actively viewing him as a villain until her analysis gave us insight to his character inside. I didn't reply to your previous post but I agree with you that MS's actions is not the same as Snape's. Snape's loyalty to Dumbledore did make him different from MS :)

I found some interesting theories on Soompi page 562 (by pnaysurfer84)...

Everyone is so awesome speculating what happened in 1992.

What I think is that CYS also suffers from PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder). When she was mentioning her pre-adoption life, before Papa Chae got her, with the suicidal actress on the rooftop, it made me think that her memories are all mixed up. She doesn't know which one was part of her childhood. If she still can't remember KMH or SJH even, she needs to go to a psychiatrist.

The metal stick guy theory: I remember President Hwang dragging the golf club the same way. My hunch would be a younger, subordinate Hwang, doing the Elders bidding and hurting little Ji-an.

Evil secretary and Gil-Han/Joon-Seok/Moon-Shik theory: Upon arriving at the place they were talking about on that flashback, the 3 Amigos got ambushed by Elders men, with the evil secretary subordinate looming over what's happening. Gil-Han dies, Joon-Seok is badly injured and Moon-Shik also hurt. Someone talks to Joon-Seok and tells him that he has to take the blame on killing his best friend. Moon-shik listens on. (MS character also a good observer)

Edit: Also, l just realized that Moon Shik is a puppet, a scape goat. Only the "higher ups" know who Elder really is. (Secretary Oh, the main hit man, as an exception) But that doesn't mean I think MS is good. It just tells me that he could have prevented some things to happen.

Just a little bit of my theories and observations. This drama has so many secrets! My brain is fried trying to connect the dots. I hope that SJH and CYS really gets their happiness. As teacher Ki Young Jae said, the ugly truth is destined to come out in the end.

How interesting...thanks for sharing! I'm going to give my thoughts into this as well :)

YS's PTSD was what I was thinking too. I've learnt a bit of this in medical school and it usually happens after a person is exposed to an extremely traumatic event - which can be most recent events such as physical assault, car accident etc; or events that happened in the past like domestic violence/sexual assault during childhood. Usually with PTSD, people tend to avoid reminders of the trauma, including places or similar situations - just like how we see YS avoiding going on the elevator. She doesn't want to trigger her symptoms which in her case is quite severe (difficulty breathing, sweating, shortness of breath, rapid heartbeat, etc...needing medication for it) and avoidance is the right to do. For those you who who says that YS is like damsel in distress always needing Healer to swoop in and save her - I have to disagree, she is just the opposite. She knows that her condition is debilitating but when the situation calls for it, she IS a very brave girl. She's willing to lay her life on the line just to protect BS and that is what really attracts JH to her. She isn't stupid and I believe she's not your typical heroine for this matter. Because anyone who knows of her condition well would completely root for her. She's one badass girl! And because of her condition, it makes me think she's all the more stronger than JH - to be able to overcome her fears/demons and confront them straight on. That scene where she stepped into the elevator bravely made me love her so much. SHE IS BRAVE and to see her overcoming her anxiety (with JH next to her) made is such a significant scene, in my opinion. I really do think that the writer did a lot research into PTSD because her scenes are depicted quite accurately.

Re: The metal stick guy theory: This is an interesting theory, and I must say it's very plausible - considering how Hwang tends to kiss up to other people's asses (sorry for my language haha) to move up the ladder.

Evil secretary and Gil-Han/Joon-Seok/Moon-Shik theory: I've been thinking that MS's character was a scapegoat too. Although he knows what Elder looks like, I doubt he knows much about Elder either but just knowing that Elder is someone not to be messed with. So I guess it makes sense that he's doing all of what Elder wants for both personal and political reasons. I believe at first it was to protect MH and Myunghee, but then afterwards when MH started to interfere, it was to stop his interference in the "peace" that he's created for them by any means...

Anyway just my thoughts! Good theory btw, thanks for sharing :)

Wow! Wonderful news fellow Beanies! ;)

All of you have broken the only record left by K2H - this thread has taken over the 2,324 record set in episode 16 of K2H! Well done, everyone!

I didn't have the time to contribute comments here because of work but I have read some of the comments so thank you everyone for all the wonderful comments, analysis, sharing and squeealing! ;)

So, it's official - Healer has set the all-time record for the most number of threads beyond 2000 comments in Dramabeans' history! ;)

And we still have 6 episodes to go! ;)

Hi Dear Kay
I guessed that work kept you away. I'm glad that you're back! :)

Yes, we've evened up with K2H in that we've also hit the 2K comments total 3 times. But we want to go one more to beat that.

We are also hoping to break the higher record ie, 2,362 comments held by K2H. Just 30 or so comments to go!!! We'll definitely break this one by tomorrow's show!!!

So yes, congrats to all in advance, and more so because this time, our comments have been mostly solid, thoughtful and thought-provoking stuff. All the more we should clap ourselves on the back! :D

Cheers Kay!

I cannot tell you how much I've missed coming here to read the comments and to try to respond to the comments, most especially your thought-provoking, thoughtful, encouraging and moving comments, dear Growingbeautifully ;)

Thank you so much for your kind words to me even though I feel I am undeserved of them. ;)

I have loved every single comment you've posted since the beginning of Healer and you've never disappointed me or the other commentors by the depth and breadth of your thoughts, ideas, suggestions and insight. ;)

Please do know that even though I cannot post my response to them, all your comments are very much appreciated, not just by me, but by so many other commentors here, that is for sure! ;)

And I totally agree with you that we definitely can post more comments here before episode 15 recap-thread comes our way, and hope that we can have more recap-threads with over 2400 comments! ;)

Thanks again, my dearest Growingbeautifully/GB! ;)

I look forward to reading more of your wonderful comments! Take care of yourself, my dear and till we meet again in the next recap-thread! ;)

It's my turn to say :

Awwwww @GB! ;)

*bows respectfully*

Please accept my *warmest virtual hugs* for you, dearest GB! ;)

From the beginning of your posting comments at Healer's recap-threads, YOUR words have made me so happy because you have a way of making others feel good about themselves with your words! ;)

You put in a great deal of effort to try to respond to as many of the commentors' comments in each of the Healer's recap-threads and also to make new commentors feel so welcome to the threads that I am amazed you have the energy and time in spite of your busy schedule! ;)

On top of that, you were the one who suggested the sub-threads to help everyone who loves to read the recaps and post their comments have a more enjoyable and meaningful experience. I wish I could be a part of your suggestion but sadly because of work I could not.

Therefore, dearest GB, YOU are the sweet and generous one! In fact, there are no words that can adequately describe how wonderful you are to me for all your wonderful effort that have made MY day, week, months since I started watching Healer and reading the recaps and comments! ;)

So, kindly accept my humble appreciation for your generosity, kindness, compassion and thoughtfulness! ;)

I thank God for the Blessing of someone like you in my life, someone who is truly Blessed and who is spreading all the Blessings from God to those around her! ;)

Thanks again, my lovely GB! ;)

May you continue to be a blessing to those around you! ;)

Just gave a random thought because I have nothing better to do in life :P ...in what type of drama you want to see JCW next???

1. Rom-Com ( e.g. Marriage not dating, personal taste etc)
2. Medical drama ( e.g. Good doctor, medical top team)
3. Melodrama ( e.g. Angel eyes)
4. Fantasy based (e.g. My gf is a gumiho, QIHM etc)
5. Uncommon topic ( e.g. Misaeng , School... I don't know in category they fell )

@ fantasy

Since JCW likes to widen his scope, I'd like him to try 5. ie something uncommon or not categorised. I feel he'd have been great in Misaeng too since so much is portrayed without words or action. Just his eyes would work well for that show! LOL!

Next, I'd like to see him in rom-coms because he has a great comedic talent in terms of his facial expressions and good timing too, from the times I burst out laughing at his PBS. The Romance part, is a must for such a good looking actor, who'll guarantee swoons with every romantic gesture, and also since it is said, and I kinda believe, he can 'make' chemistry with all his leading ladies. :)

I want him to act in a good rom-com next just because I want more people to know him, I just randomly read some comments in other sites that healer is too much hyped by international fan base and most of them are lurking JCW's hotness. I won't say them to like Healer because of course people have their own choices and it's not also that we don't admire JCW's good looks. I also know plot wise Healer is not very different of a kind like Misaeng.

But they should know we are admiring the execution and acting of this drama. That's why I want him to do a good rom-com because I noticed 90% of viewers generally like it at least don't dislike it completely :)

Just an observation :

Ji Chang-wook's eyes have been looking blood-shot since the scene at the cafe where he was asked to choose between east or west, and when he found out if he had chosen 'west', he would have gotten a hug from PMY, he wanted to change the choice.

And in episode 14, he really looked so worn out, and it's not just the makeup, because the inner part of his eyes cannot lie.

I feel for him and the rest of the cast because of the live shoot system - it's literally sucking the life out of the cast and crew.

I just hope they are able to rest when they can and take care of themselves because although we love to see them in action in the drama, we definitely do not want it to be done at the expense of their good health.

May God keep them safe and healthy! ;)
