Beanie level: Errand boy

I guess the withdrawal symptoms are more severe than I thought it’d be. I feel so empty now that The Best Hit is over.

Of all plush toys that’d been introduced in kdrama land, this is the only plush toy that I really want. PPL done right.

    I still want a pig-rabbit (You’re Beautiful) lol

I’ll admit that I wouldn’t mind having a plush toy I saw in a drama some time ago. It’s a bear wearing a little gold crown. 🐻

For whatever reason I thought it was the cutest thing. Heh.

    1
    1

Is it the one from Fashion King?

      1
      1

I didn’t watch Fashion King so unfortunately I don’t know if it appeared there or, if in fact it’s the same one. I saw it in You Who Rolled In Unexpectedly. I didn’t really watch this entire drama, only a couple of episodes , but I did see the plush bear in a few of them. Let me see if I can find a picture of it.

        1
        1

I also forgot what they had in FK as it’s long time ago and I don’t really like that drama, so I didn’t give much attention while watching it. I actually googled plush toy bear with crown, and Fashion King seems to appear associated to the plush toy. But I’m not sure if it’s the right one cause I also found cute panda plush toy for Fashion King SBS drama.

I found a picture but the Beanie Wall won’t let me post it. In fact, it said I posted an inappropriate word! Um, ok. *laughing*

So yeah, just google “plush bear with crown kdramas” and it comes up in the “images”. It’s the light brown one with the gold crown!

I don’t see a happy ending in this drama. It seems like everyone’s dying. Anyway, can’t wait for Duel finale!

3
3

now I’m torn, do you watch non stop so I can catch up to the finale or prolong the wait and delay watching last 4 eps before the finale

    1

I think it depends on your priority and your kdrama schedule. Tbh, this drama is not the best, but it’s acceptable and I watch it solely because of Yang Sejong. If Yang Sejong is enough for you to watch this drama, then you’ll enjoy the emotional ride for the last 4 eps including finale of Duel.

Ahh… about that. I didn’t have time to watch whilst travelling and the time travelling aspect threw me off wanting to wait till I got home (Time Travel and I don’t go very well together), thus I just followed along with recaps, and gradually lost interest in it even then Although I thought the start was really funny I’m not sold on where it’s gone and it’s probably just not for me :/
That plus I have like a million other things to watch rn… O.o

I think he’s wearing a headphone. I love how both of them are still kissing waiting for CTH to say cut, but then CTH teases them to stop as if they enjoy the kiss so much. Hahaha

Is it just me or I feel like I can see-thru her shirt? I know its summer and she’s at home… but if you’re a man alone in a room with your gf that’s gotta be distracting. She’s super adorbs in aegyo though. 😊

OMG, from another angle is cute too! And I realized they did it a few times like this the during press conference.

      1
      1

In the footage I watched, I saw them exchange a glance, I think they might have planned it beforehand XD Sejeong is quite playful and from one of the behind the scenes it seems Jang Dongyoon is too! One of the staff was checking if he had abs (the scene where Eunho tries to figure out who has an injury on his side) and suddenly he said “Is there any laundry for me to do?” and started scrubbing imaginary laundry on his abs

Probably the same way everyone got back. The bridge was just for show. Lol.

Haha Ikr, I was thinking of how they’re going back to the teacher’s house since that’s the only route, they said. But I enjoy the bridge scene though it’s only for extra show.

I\’m not an Arab, but I\’m disappointed with the level of ignorance in Man Who Dies to Live. I really looked forward to watch this drama, but I\’m not sure if I can tolerate with the backstory.

8
10

Okay.. I’m an Arab, was looking forward to watching Man Who Dies to Live, haven’t got the time to watch it yet, with this post I’m not sure what to expect.. mind giving me some spoilers?!

    1
    2

They had scenes where girls wear bikinis and hijabs. I mean, I don’t mind if they’re just wearing bikinis since not all Arabs are Muslims, but having both that combination, I think it’s kinda insulting. And they also made a scene where the King of that country asked Choi Min Soo (idk his character’s name) to marry one of the princesses. Again, the princesses wear hijab with sexy clothes. And they just sat there quietly, so it gives the sentiment of arranged marriage, but in a force way where women have no say in whom she’ll be married to.

      4
      1

Honestly, I’m not even surprised of their level of ignorance, this is not the first time where they portrayed us in such an insulting way! Like you said, not all Arabs are Muslims, and not all Arab Muslims are Hijabis but having them wear bikinis and hijab? that is just plain stupid! And what about the princesses, what era is this? I wish they do a little research on Arabs before making these dramas, the same happened in the K2 and Ji Chang-wook’s kiss scene with the hijabi girl, I don’t know what exactly they want to show through these dramas, what kind of message they want to send about us, or is it that they never even thought about this, about the image these dramas make people form about is! So frustrating!

        10
        1

It’s very frustrating. If they don’t know about the culture, then don’t think of doing it. I know the whole plot of the drama is about a man who’s been living in foreign country comes back to Korea to find his daughter. But if they’re not culturally aware of Arabs culture, it’s either they do research or just choose other culture that they’re well-educated in.
I was also surprised with that scene in K2 as well. It’s one of the reasons why I don’t consider K2 as my fav drama.

          5
          3

Yes, I understand that we are different, the cultures, the religions, everything is different, you can’t get everything right, there’s definitely going to be some mistakes, but not to this degrading extent!

I did not watch The K2 but that scene was everywhere, everyone was talking about it, couldn’t not see it and I was shocked, I still don’t understand how and why?!

            3
            0

@azzo1 yes, you’re right, they don’t have to be an expert on Arab culture, minor mistakes can be tolerable, but this kind of mistake? I think it’s a huge insult. I also may not be an expert in Arab culture because I’m not Arab, but I took two Arab courses in my college days to understand a bit on Arab culture. C’mon Korean PD, writer & producer, it’s not that to learn a bit more on other people’s culture.

            2
            0

Exactly, just a little bit of effort, that’s all we’re asking for!

            1
            0

Wow, this is some new level of ignorance. Stuff like this frustrates me to no end and makes my blood boil.
I’m not an Arab, but I can relate to this, as they constantly do the same thing with black culture.
I don’t understand what their goal is exactly, as I’m pretty sure stuff like this has happened before and people have called it out, yet it keeps on repeating.
It’s as you guys said above, if you’re not culturally aware, do some research and do it right or don’t do it AT ALL.

I don’t understand how they can take things that are of cultural significance to other people so lightly. *fuming*

      8
      0

Things like this get me frustrated with Korean entertainment (music or dramas). They know full well and they are pushing for Hallyu yet they don’t consider things like these. I’m not Arab or Black, but it’s so frustrating when you read/hear “Sorry we dont know or we are not aware of” when they are called out for cultural misappropriations.

I am fully aware that they have a different culture during my first forays into Korean dramas & music but can’t they at least put some effort into learning about other cultures especially if they’ll use it in their scripts or what not.

Sorry for the rant. Couldn’t help myself cause of this new misappropriation.

    7
    1

Nothing to be sorry about. I also rant about this whole thing here. I also think it’s a matter of respect. If you want to put someone’s culture in your entertainment industry, it’s either you do it right, or don’t do it at all.

      3
      0

These are just so wrong in so many levels. Don’t tell me you had so many people in your production team, and no one seems to take an initiative to learn Arab & Muslim culture. *smh*

Okay, wow! Just saw this.. SPEECHLESS!

I’m not an Arab, but I’m a muslim who wears hijab. And this level of ignorance is just disturbing. There goes my plan to watch this drama.

Im not arab nor a muslim but I’ve been living in the middle east all my life. It makes me cringe to see scenes like these. A little bit of culture sensitivity and a little bit of research would’ve gone a long way. *smh*

        6
        1

I honestly don’t know what they think of us, do they really think we’re like THIS?! LIKE FOR REAL?!

          3
          0

I am neither an Arab, Muslim nor Hijabi but this image irritates me to no end! Not gonna watch the show either! Korean shows really need to learn about other countries and/or cultures if they are gonna use that in their story-line.

I hated those fake Indian guru scenes in Strong Woman Do Bong Soon, but this one just infuriates me!

        6
        2

I know! If you’re not going to put any effort to learn about the culture then just don’t use it!

I hated those scenes, too! He was a monk with a Muslim name, like what?!

          6
          0

OMG that fake Indian guru scenes. I skipped on those scenes because it’s so irrelevant and so unnecessary. 🙄

          4
          0

I’m a Muslim hijabi and I went hell no! when I saw these girls. And all the other things going around like the women curtseying when he walked past. Muslim women don’t curtsey and it’s not Arab culture either for women to curtsey. I feel like the writers just decided on the most out-there thing they could imagine Muslims and/or Arabs being and filled the show up with all kinds of stupid stereotypes. I was really offended and I kinda knew this would happen.

        7
        0

I have lost my interest to continue watching this drama. I know those scenes are just in episode 1, but I can’t really tolerate with ignorance. Plus, the humor is not that funny either. Shin Sung Rok is playing a cheating husband too. So I’m out!

      5
      0

I’m not a Muslim and not a Arab but felt uncomfortable watching these scenes.

    8
    0

OMG, I’m not Arabian but I’m moslem, this is kinda disturbing and inappropriate.

    5
    0

Wow this is so ridiculous and offensive! Wasn’t planning on watching this drama, and really have no reason to now!
Which idiot even came up with portraying them like this? And no one bothered to say this isn’t right?
This is ignorance, laziness and poor writing combined that shows no understanding of the culture!

    3
    1

It’s like they want to show women in bikinis, but wait, let’s make it more Arab and put hijab on their heads. It’s just stupid. I think we both got nothing to lose by not watching this drama.

      3
      1

am not arab nor muslim, but wow, this is just ridiculous.
    did they even do research?

    1
    1

This is way too much.. I skipped the beginning of this drama because I don’t think i’ll miss anything big. This is not the first time. I remember in K2 there was a kissing scene between Ji Chang Wook and Rania (an Arab girl which is a Muslim too) and that girl clearly wears hijab.

There’s also an issue with main poster with this drama, it seems like they put Muslim’s holy book (Quran) but it is in inappropriate position. I just saw it, now I feel so conflicted. I looked forward to this drama but they disappointed us from the very beginning. Regardless any cultures or religions, they should do a research. Not every matter can be taken as a joke.

Ignorance is not an excuse. We are living in the world, where we can get everything at fingertips. If they are so lazy to do a research, never ever try to touch others’ cultures.

    4
    1

Yup, I remember clearly those scenes in K2. It seems like they really don’t know why Muslim women wear hijab. Yes, it’s true that hijabis will cover herself from guys who are not blood-related to them before marriage and I was shocked when she took off her hijab right after K2 said that he’d marry her, and then kissed? It’s really stupid.

If this drama really wants to do a backstory of the character living in Arab country, the production team really should learn more about the culture. They should’ve learned from K2’s production team’s mistake. And I just realized about the poster! I didn’t catch it before. Oh wow, now I’m completely speechless because it’s a holy Quran. Anyway, I’ve decided not to continue watching this drama anymore and I don’t think I’ll be missing out much.
