Jung So-min becomes Lee Min-ki’s housemate in This Life Is Our First

Well, this is some lightning-fast casting; not that I’m complaining, especially if these are the results. Only a day after reports announced that Lee Min-ki (Shoot Me in the Heart) was considering a leading role in the new tvN drama This Life Is Our First, his side has since confirmed his participation in the show, and we also have a heroine in Jung So-min (Father Is Strange).

The drama will be a fresh and fun take on the struggles of this generation’s youths, and how they view jobs, relationships, and marriage. There’s also a disheartening moniker for the youth in Korea that seems to change every time I hear it: the N-po generation. The “po” is for the Korean word pogi, which means to give up, and so while I first heard it as the 3-po generation (giving up love, marriage, and children), it has since been upgraded to the 5-po generation. This Life Is Our First will depict the lives and tribulations of this N-po generation, which would sound like a big downer, if not for the “fresh and fun” vibe the producers are promising.

Lee Min-ki will play the “house-poor” Nam Se-hee, who is described as rational and a sworn bachelor. He will become housemates with Jung So-min’s Yoon Ji-ho, who has had to give up on relationships in order to scrape by financially. This realistic setup, with two roomies who share a living space for financial reasons and no contract anything to keep them there, sounds pretty true to the producers’ promise to keep this show relevant to today’s youths. And while I can’t imagine Jung So-min getting all romantic with someone other than Lee Joon at the moment, I can see her and Lee Min-ki being super adorable as housemates-turned-lovers.

This Life Is Our First will follow Argon in tvN’s Monday-Tuesday slot sometime in October.

Would be great if the male lead is Lee Soo-hyuk.

Yes, she could finally complete the Model Avengers collection. Although, I would love for her and Kim Young-kwang to work together again, they had such an awesome chemistry in D-day. And I just realized they were both in Can We Get Married although he was romancing Lee Yu-bi in that drama.

Oh dear... I LOVE Jung So Min but I seriously dislike Lee Min Ki... Now what should I do! Maybe this is the drama where I will warm up to him...

Oh, I was under the impression that Lee Min-ki was well loved in these parts. I've never seen him in anything nor have I ever felt the desire to. I don't know there's just something uninteresting about him. Nice to know it's not just me.

You probably don't find him interesting because you haven't seen him in anything :P I recommend Shut Up: Flower Boy Band. He's only in it for the first couple of episodes but he makes a huge impact. I enjoyed his movie Spellbound, too. It's a cute horror-comedy-romance. Nothing spectacular but a nice watch.

Spellbound with Sohn Ye Jin? I think it's the only time I have ever seen Lee Min Ki, but yes he's cute in it..

I don't think people are necessarily interested in him purely on his own terms--for me at least he comes with a lot of nostalgia. He had very lovable roles in beloved classics (Taereung National Village, Dalja's Spring, and above all Evasive Inquiry Agency).

Oh wow, I haven't even gotten the chance to read the initial article w/ Lee Min-ki's casting news, and now we've already got lead confirmations? That's cool. I think Jung So-min is very charming and has a lovely onscreen presence, even though I've never really watched any of her works in its entirety. This will just have to be the one, then. I can't wait to see these two go from strangers, to housemates, to lovers. Hopefully they'll continue to churn out fast updates on this drama!

Yes, I second this! Definitely check out Flower Boy Band if only just to see his memorable cameo. Besides the friendship and music, his cameo/character was one of the best things about that drama.

@midnight, oh, wae? Why do you "seriously dislike" him? Tbh, I haven't seen many of his projects, but I think he's a good actor and I like him. I think the first time I saw him was in the movie, Romantic Island. I thought he was so cute. I then saw him here and there and again in Shut Up: Flower Boy Band, which he was just fabulous in. Because of my love for Kim Go-eun, I watched the movie Monster, which he played a psychotic killer, and the two literally just spent the entire movie trying to kill each other, but hey, he scared the heck outta me, so it was another job well done from him--even though that movie was just so-so.

Ok. I'm literally cracking up at her and Kwang-soo's antics on Sound of Your Heart right now. They are so adorable and ridiculous. I can't believe it took me this long to watch it (lol, in my defense, there were no subs when I first tried). I needed something light, but may have discovered a new comedy favorite.

Lol, anyway, I'm even more excited for this news now. I personally really like her as Mi-young in FiS, but love her even more as Ae-bong!

Loving this premise and casting so far.

Interesting premise! I hope that the writing/atmosphere will be solid/good. The key to such dramas being entertaining is the execution, so I hope for the best. I will check this out when it starts.

Whoo I'm excited! I love Jung So Min, I'm so glad she's finally getting regular work in big projects. I also love roommate shenanigans and contract romances and dramas with something to say about the current state of society. Then you add Lee Min Ki and I need this, like, yesterday!

Lee Joon is kind of acting circles around her right now in Father is Strange, but she is charming. Given the right role, she could do well.

Right? That was also my impression. I thought that she should outshine him given that she started off earlier than him and he was an idol-turned-actor (now plays in the same league of actors of course) so I was surprised. But she's very natural in delievery and her expressive eyes are her biggest asset so I'm looking forward to this one

If I didn't know Lee Joon was an idol, I can easily say he is an actor, not idol turn to actor. Hope he will be a bigger actors after back from his military service. Maybe Jung So Min is a type of an actress who will shine if her partner is lesser actor or on par with her, not when someone who is much better than her.

Hi @saya

If this happens, "I can see her and Lee Min-ki being super adorable as housemates-turned-lovers" wouldn't that mean they have given up on giving up.

Do they then go back from being 5-po to 3-po?

The premise sounds interesting, I might check it at least few epi for Lee Min Ki to see how it goes ?As for Jung So Min, well at least she is quite charming and depending on the role, she can deliver. As long as you don't give her a lot to emote, it will be fine imo.

I just can't understand why Argon in this timeslot though, it seems to be quite a heavy drama, right? Usually this time slot is for romcom as far as I recall. Argon will have only 8 epi if I'm not mistaken.

This time slot is not necessarily for romcom for example Circle, Pied Piper and Hidden Identity in this time slot before.

I don't know about Lee Min Ki's side, but I'm thinking that Jung So Min's side waited until she officially signed with a new agency before giving any official statements to confirm any sort of casting in a new drama... Jung So Min recently (and by 'recent', I mean just within the last couple of days) moved agencies from being at SM C&C to Jellyfish Entertainment =)

I would find it hard to believe that their casting wasn't done together with production selecting to announce Lee Min-Ki first. It's a smart move if you're trying to re-brand someone. Jung So-min is really having a surge in popularity after Sound of My Heart and Father is Strange. A nice, cute "Fight My Way/Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok Jo-esque" drama will be good for both of them.

"This Life Is Our First will depict the lives and tribulations of this N-po generation"

i am in. the story seems to have the same vibe with FMY. a little bit not sure since TVn producing the drama. i am more into KBS-type-of-viewer than TVn (except for Reply 1988).
