Premiere date and teaser released for Criminal Minds

We’ve finally got a premiere date for tvN’s upcoming remake of Criminal Minds, and not a moment too soon since it’ll start its run at the end of this month. The show has also released a short first teaser featuring our main characters, and it’s just as tense and dramatic as you’d expect of a crime thriller.

The teaser starts with Sohn Hyun-joo (Three Days) narrating offscreen: “We promise you, that we will catch them.” We get flashes of our profiler team and crime scenes as a male survivor says in a terrified voice, “When I close my eyes, I can picture his gaze so vividly, I can’t keep them closed.” Another victim, this time a woman, begs for her life, while a man yells at someone to stop. We get brief scenes of our team in action; racing in a police car, subduing a suspect in a hospital, and Lee Jun-ki (Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo) looking bloody and battered. “We can stop them, if we can think like them.”

After reading the character descriptions, it sounds like the Korean remake is going to transplant a lot of the same characters from the original American show into this adaptation, with a few minor tweaks. Sohn Hyun-joo will play team leader Kang Ki-hyung, who is described as highly intellectual and level-headed, and widely considered the best profiler in Korea. He sounds like a mix of Jason Gideon and Aaron Hotchner’s characters, and I could see Sohn Hyun-joo acting the heck out of it.

Lee Jun-ki’s agent Kim Hyun-joon sounds like he’ll be taking Derek Morgan’s role in the profiler team: He’s tasked with the more physical aspects of being an NCI agent, such as taking down suspects or chasing them on foot. Usually lighthearted and easygoing, he does a 180 turn at crime scenes and is the most assertive team member. Just as passionate about her job is Moon Chae-won’s (Goodbye Mr. Black) Ha Seon-woo, whose main role in the team is analyzing the crime scene. Like Emily Prentiss, Ha Seon-woo is exceptionally good at her job and doesn’t let threats to her safety stand in the way of her responsibilities.

JJ’s Communications Liaison role goes to Yoo Min-young, played by Lee Sun-bin (Missing 9), and Go Yoon (Monster) will play the youngest-ever agent Lee Han, who holds a Ph.D. in psychology. Oh, I’m so glad Reid’s character will have a part in the Korean adaptation, and I can’t wait to see how Lee Han and Kim Hyun-joon get along. I’m also super happy to see that Penelope Garcia will have a Korean counterpart in Yoo Sun’s (Our Gap-soon) Nana Hwang, complete with badass hacking skills and unique sense of style.

It looks like there’ll be some internal conflict in addition to the various episodic crimes our profiler team will struggle to solve: Kim Young-chul (Father Is Strange) will play Baek San, who founded the profiling branch NCI and acts as its director. Baek San is described as a charismatic figure skilled in politics, who can’t be squared away into being a “good” or “bad” character. I just hope there isn’t too much intra-agency politicking involved in this adaptation, because I prefer our profilers taking down our baddies in the field and not getting too caught up in bureaucratic maneuvering.

Criminal Minds is set to premiere on July 26 in tvn’s new Wednesday-Thursday slot.

Lee Jun Ki <3, drama please be good, the last drama of Lee Jun Ki I did not drop was Two weeks, 4 years ago like a decade in dramaland time.

I never know that I would like criminal dramas so much until I watch Voice. Especially in TVN and OCN, which usually produce less-makjang criminal dramas.

And here I am already excited, I forget about that part. Just like the last two previous adaptations of American dramas, Entourage and The Good Wife, we will probably not see this in America as well legally. That is, Dramafever and Viki will not have license to carry this drama.

I want one thriller to be for me what SDQ is doing to sageuk for me. Neither of the genres can I watch successfully to the end. So I really hope this one works like SDQ worked as a sageuk. Since, this year has these two genres everywhere.

Thanks for the CRIMINAL MINDS update, tipsymocha! I'm stoked and can't wait to see the Korean take on the intrepid profilers. Lee Joon-gi was terrific in TWO WEEKS, and I expect he'll deliver the goods in this show, too. Am looking forward to Sohn Hyun-joo, too. ;-)

FINALLY ... I have never heard of any of these actors ( new an only follows live shows ) ... But all my love please make me love you show ... And do justice to Dr spencer reid ... And the fact that you have a glimpse of JG is all the wall needs and still not over waiting for 8 seasons and the season ten happened and I was soOooo pissed ....

I better have flirting , family fun , and dr awkward. Know it all who makes people wonder if he is human ....

I still wish I can read as fast as reid ....

Tvn am ready to get paranoid again and wonder if mankind is all evil ...

I love the teaser and can't wait for this show to kick off!! Been missing Joon Gi for too long and I feel like he's finally got a good show on his hands and it's not a sageuk. Not to mention, I love how they have the Korean counterparts to all my fave characters, which is the core reason I loved the original series.

That's what I said when the only drama I watched of him was 'My Girl'.

I was proven wrong when I decided to watched MLSHR. I realized I was a fool after watching the rest of his projects. I was asking myself --Why didn't I watch his projects a long time ago? Instead I wasted my time watching dramas of the same genre with predictable & cliche storylines.

As a hardcore fan of the US Criminal Minds since season 1, I am looking forward to the K-drama take on my favorite series. The casting looks really good too, I hope the cases don't get toned down because the evil of humanity and the profiler team overcoming the evil is what made the show so addicting.

Yayyayaayayaya!! So excited for Lee Jun Ki and Moon Chae Won! My favorite Korean actor/actress together!! Arang and the Magistrate and Nice Guy aired kinda together in 2012 and were one of the first five dramas I ever watched. From that time on, I wanted LJK and MCW to act together. Now it's happening after 5 years! Haha.

I am really worried for Ninja Teacher, he is getting slimmer and slimmer even though it doesn´t even seem possible. Please stop, Teacher. Don´t hurt your health. Build some muscle. I am still exited for this and I hope it is good, but I feel like Teacher might break in half.
