Junho snags lead in JTBC’s Just Between Lovers

He caught many viewers’ attention as the likable rival Yul in Chief Kim, and now 2PM’s Junho (also Memory, Twenty) is moving on up to leading man status. He’s been offered the lead in an upcoming cable drama called Just Between Lovers and is in final negotiations to star.

Just Between Lovers is a tale about great people—people who don’t look all that remarkable at first glance, and who don’t appear as though they do anything of importance. However, these great people are able to withstand the coldest winds without flinching, and are able to carry on with their lives as if they aren’t in pain. It’s a story about pitiable people who comfort and embrace one another, and instead of becoming fearful of mistakes, they remain endlessly hopeful and constantly make opportunities for themselves.

Junho will play a character named Lee Kang-doo, the much-loved only child of a well-to-do family. He lacked nothing growing up, but he loses his father in an unexpected accident, and his mother to cancer. At age 20, he and the debt his mother left behind are all that’s left. Having become a delinquent borrower because of those debts, he’ll live out of cheap motels and will take odd jobs in an effort to pay the bills. However, a character will arrive who will turn his life around.

I thought Junho held his own versus Kim Woo-bin and Kang Haneul (no small feat!) in Twenty, and his performance in Chief Kim was a pleasant surprise. I miss the crackling bromantic chemistry he had with Namgoong Min, but I’m looking forward to finding out whether he can recreate a similar (or generate an even hotter) sizzle as a traditional romantic lead.

Just Between Lovers will be directed by Kim Jin-won (Wonderful Days) and is being planned for a release before the end of the year on JTBC.

So happy! I really enjoyed his performance in "Chief Kim" and I have to say all the male actors in this drama!
I will check this drama for sure!

Agreed! I loved JunHo and NamGoongMin in Chief Kim. JunHo was so adorable even as a bad guy. Also DongHa was hilarious as the chaebol heir. I am loving him as murderer in Suspicious Partner.
I am waiting for Falsify to start airing.
JunHO can carry off romantic lead with ease. We saw some glimpses of it in ChiefKim already. The way he looked at the female lead made me swoon..

I loved Junho in Chief Kim and didn't know he was in Twenty back when I watched it, as that was before I became a fan of his through 2PM and Chief Kim. He seems like a really talented actor so I'm thrilled he's got his first leading role!

I tried to rack my brains to remember him in twenty and I went back to watch the trailer and still didn't recognise him

i notice him with Kang Ha Neul and Woo Bin. they are supposed to be three best friend in a movie right? I don't particularly impressed by the acting, I mean no one is standout among the young star.

Ooh, sounds interesting!

I loved Junho as Seo Yul and thought his crush on Ha-kyung was adorable! He did really good in Chief Kim so I'm happy he's getting leading role offers, I hope he accepts!

Junho is fabulous and is so deserving of a lead role. I hope they get a good scriptwriter and a wonderful leading lady for him. I adored him in Memory where he was a couple with Yoon So-Hee (2nd lead courageous lady from Ruler: Master of the Mask.) They had so much chemistry.

Just finished Chief Kim and must say I am thrilled by this news. The bromance between him and Namgoong Min made the drama. I've never seen him in anything before but thought he did an excellent job.

Hmm, the premise sounds meh... aren't most drama heroes endlessly optimistic when suffering? Almost annoyingly so?

Love Junho though! Excited to see how he'll do on his own.

That premise opener literally sounds like it was written by someone who has no idea what the drama is about and was told to write something so generic it couldn't possibly be wrong ? The drama may end up being amazing, but imma need a lot more info to get hooked on the idea and not just the casting...

Me too! It would be nice if we learned the drama was actually about something completely different later on.

This could work if they're just going for a slice-of-life drama though.

Omg, YES! I'm so happy to know that we'll be seeing him on our screens again soon.

He made quite the impression on me as Yul in Chief Kim. I honestly thought he was an actor, and did not know he was an idol until much later on.

Anyhow, the premise also seems great. But let me honest, I would watch it solely for him if I had too!

check out.

I really like him, but the opener of that premise is so generic that it sounds like one of those early 2000s Internet quiz results that were designed so they could apply to anyone. I'm actively trying to think of a drama it doesn't describe in at least some respect and coming up empty... I'll be hanging out to get more details on this one ?

Hell yes! I adored him in Chief Kim, at one point I even liked him more than Namgoong Min, for whom I began watching it in a first place (I'm sorry, I still love him! But Yul was just so good...). His "open ending" in Chief Kim (and that adorable dorkiness when with Nam Sang-mi's character) made me wish he gets a lead in the near future. And look at that! Sometimes dreams do come true!

I only know him from Chief Kim, but in addition to impressing me with his acting, I found him to be very charismatic. Junho, Namgoong Min, and Dong Ha all possess magnetic personalities, are full of dynamic energy, and are able to be chameleons-- and that was a big factor in making Chief Kim a fun watch.

The premise sounds good, though the description makes it sound like it could be called Candyland, and that Junho's character, Kang-doo, could be nicknamed Can Do. Anyway, I'm looking forward to seeing a different side of Junho.

This is indeed an interesting news. I like him in Chief Kim though I think he turned good quite too easily. I love his eating disorder (don't mess with ma eating rhythm).

Hearing this news makes me think of the person who is the male lead for the Strongest Delivery Man. Both of them are given the first lead role and I'm interested in seeing how things will turn out for them.

I'm so happy for him! I'm glad he's getting opportunities now! I was a fan of 2PM from their early days (I don't really follow kpop anymore). It's nice to see them getting old and doing other things (LOL). He's definitely better at acting than other members of 2PM (ahem..that super tall, seemingly cool but actually somewhat awkward, sometimes fashion challenged one). Glad to see him finally get some more of the attention he deserves (I feel like he's sometimes get overlooked in his group, is that just me?).

This is wonderful news for him!

Given his performance in Chief Kim, I knew he was a person to keep an eye on in the future. His portrayal of Seo Yul certainly made quite the impression. May we get to see him more often in future projects!

Yeaaayyy!!! I didn't know him at all before Chief Kim (I don't follow K-Pop, just dramas), but I was really impressed by his acting as Seo Yul. Hope this will be a good drama, the premise does sound a bit generic, but I've been pleasantly suprised before by dramas that sounded meh on paper, but then turned out to be fabulous.

The only thing that interests me here is Kim Jin-won on jTBC. They haven't really had another year like 2012-13, but they've retained a basic level of respect for the creative process and the people involved. I don't think KBS cramped his style, necessarily, but he's super talented and I can't see more freedom being a bad thing. And it also means he's not marooned in the corporatist wasteland at tvN like so many other good PDs these days, so hooray for him.

Junho!!!! YES. ??

I am sure he can do more than just be a 'traditional romantic lead', if Chief Kim is anything to go by. He looked totally swoony in suits in Chief Kim, but I am strangely looking forward now to seeing him live the bum life, if that's what this story is going for. It's all very generic, but it sounds kind of like Shopping King Louie without the amnesia. Now to pray for a good female lead!

Also, I do appreciate the warning that Truck of Doom might appear early in the drama. Too often ToD gets no credit for its cameos.

Actually his character in Twenty is almost the same in this drama. His family was rich but after his father died, they're bankrupted. He had to quit school and work part-time to support his family while studying at a cram school. His buddy's sister (played by Lee Yu Bi), attend the same cram school and they fell in love.
