Man to Man: Episode 5
by murasakimi
I feel like this is the episode I’ve been waiting for. There are still pieces in this show that haven’t really smoothed out entirely, but I feel like we are quickly moving in the right direction, if we’re not already there. Who knew that all I needed was more cute and funny moments to keep me satisfied? Just kidding, I’m a simple creature, so I did know that.
EPISODE 5 RECAP
Seol-woo throws himself back into his “Guard Kim” identity with an unexpected kiss-attack. Do-ha is rightfully bewildered and pushes him away. He apologizes, then explains that he tried to end their relationship by being cruel, but he confesses that he can’t leave her. She stares long and hard at him, then strikes him across the face.
She demands to know if he’s messing with her and he barks back annoyed that he wishes he were kidding while clutching his tender cheek. Hehe. He takes a deep breath to regain his composure then tells her that he’s usually not like this, but lately he keeps making mistakes.
He eases back into character and clarifies that he means the mistake of trying to leave her for her own good. He declares that he’s canceling his resignation, then takes off before he can bury himself in his mountain of lies. Do-ha touches her lips as he leaves and grumbles about his behavior while being clearly unnerved.
Seol-woo sits Dong-hyun down for a chat, demanding an explanation for making him look crazy. He warns that if he finds Dong-hyun’s reasoning for having to maintain his cover insufficient, then he should prepare himself. As fate would have it, Agent Y’s informant “Goldfinger” is CHA MYUNG-SUK, Do-ha’s father.
Dong-hyun explains that they are after a ring given to her by her father (the gift she lied about throwing away), and adds that seducing beautiful women is Seol-woo’s specialty. Seol-woo sighs and reiterates that he has a bad feeling about their mission, then theorizes that it might be because Do-ha isn’t a beauty.
At home, Do-ha tries but can’t make heads or tails of Seol-woo’s recent actions. Song-yi offers simply that he’s a psycho, but that isn’t enough for Do-ha who wants to know why he acts the way he does only to her, but is polite and normal to everyone else.
Song-yi suggests Do-ha might have enjoyed the kiss, but Do-ha adamantly denies it. So Song-yi tells her to just fire Seol-woo and be done with him, since he already resigned anyway, but Do-ha argues that Woon-kwang really needs him around. Song-yi doesn’t believe her, so Do-ha gets shouty and swears that she personally hates Seol-woo.
The next morning, Seol-woo calls Do-ha bright and early. He sweetly tells her to dress warmly today since it’ll be windy, and when questioned as to why he’s calling her first thing in the morning, he merely replies that he wanted to. A little later, Sang-shik tries and fails to wake Woon-kwang up yet again, but when Seol-woo arrives he announces that Woon-kwang has two minutes until he needs to wake.
The sound of the bodyguard’s voice gets Woon-kwang out of bed, and the actor excitedly asks if Seol-woo has returned to work. Seol-woo answers that he couldn’t turn down Do-ha, and asks to retract the 24/7 guarding duties. Woon-kwang is super jazzed to have his brother back and practically skips over to the bathroom to get ready for the day. He’s adorable.
Do-ha joins the team on set later and when Seol-woo sees her, he does this cute little wave, but she just scurries away awkwardly. Woon-kwang beams as he greets her, asking how she managed to get Seol-woo to stay with them.
She starts acting weird about the answer, accusing Seol-woo of doing something all on his own, but when questioned, Do-ha becomes evasive and replies that nothing happened. Woon-kwang lets it be, but he eyes her suspiciously.
Thankfully, Woon-kwang is called away to his shoot, so Seol-woo, who was watching her fumble around the truth, comes closer. Do-ha puts her hand up to stop him from approaching and institutes a one-meter-distance rule between them at all times.
He asks why and she says, “Because your eyes are indecent and your hands are wicked.” Hehehehe. She uneasily points out that his lips and the most troublesome, then leaves. He glares at her as she walks away, feeling foiled, then puckers at the air, pouting. Omg, so cute.
He follows her outside to ask her what will happen if he breaks her rule, and she answers, “You will die.” The pair is recruited to be extras in the scene Woon-kwang is filming, and though Do-ha jumps into the shot, clearly having done this a million times before, Seol-woo remains on the side.
She growls at him to hurry and come stand beside her, but he answers cheekily that he doesn’t want to die. The director becomes impatient and shouts at Do-ha to set up the shot, and so she amends her rule and says the one meter thing doesn’t apply during work.
He receives her message and approaches, promptly wrapping his coat around her shoulders, saying that he wanted to do this for a while since she looked cold. Her eyes widen from the gesture and he puts his arms around her as the director teases them for playing lovers.
Elsewhere at his day job as a prosecutor, Dong-hyun meets with Myung-suk to ask if the inmate is acquainted with “Robert Yoon” (aka Agent Yoon) and recognizes the Black Auction membership ring. He plays dumb, so Dong-hyun dangles the possibility of parole and suddenly Myung-suk is all ears.
Dong-hyun offers to put his name on the request list, if and only if he promises to stay with family while he’s out. With Do-ha as his only family member, Myung-suk vows to stick to her side and become a useful father.
Meanwhile, another meeting is taking place between Woon-kwang’s former agent CEO Ji and Do-ha, to review Woon-kwang’s endorsement contracts and to wrap up loose ends. She brings up the termination fee for breaking the contract with Chewing, but CEO Ji tells her not to mind it since he was in the wrong.
He tells her that he emptied his life savings to buy back the Chewing shares from Mi-eun and cut ties with her completely. He intends to keep Chewing open and wait for Woon-kwang to return one day.
Back on the set, after settling an issue between Woon-kwang and the director in Do-ha’s stead, Seol-woo sits down with Do-ha for a coffee break. She says that she likes drinking coffee from coffee shops while overlooking the night skyline. He angles for a date after work, but she reiterates her one-meter rule, and Seol-woo is forced to comply.
Do-ha reviews the endorsement material with Woon-kwang later that day and tries to put in a good word for CEO Ji, but the actor isn’t interested in the CEO’s new leaf. Woon-kwang gets up to head in for the night, but when Do-ha gets a text from Seol-woo asking her where she is, Woon-kwang pops back in and looks over her shoulder.
He guesses it’s Seol-woo, but Do-ha plays it off as a work-related question and Woon-kwang pretends to believe her. He gets this large grin on his face and watches her like a hawk as she fibs. She angles her phone out of his line of sight and tells Seol-woo to stop texting her because it makes her uncomfortable.
Turns out all the texting was a decoy to make sure that Do-ha wasn’t home so Seol-woo could snoop through her place and look for the ring. He texts back, “I made you uncomfortable? That’s not so bad.” He asks to eat dinner together after her meeting with Woon-kwang, and Do-ha has to keep lying to Woon-kwang about the messaging.
Woon-kwang pouts that Seol-woo doesn’t contact him about scheduling questions, and wonders if Seol-woo has eaten dinner yet. Do-ha lets it slip that Seol-woo hasn’t, and Woon-kwang’s nose is like a bloodhound’s, clearly smelling something fishy going on between his staff members.
Woon-kwang asks Do-ha if that’s what they’re scheduling: Do-ha’s dinner date. He decides that he needs to ask Seol-woo some questions over dinner (letting out a “mwahaha”), and Do-ha panics. He throws her words back at her and says that they’re just work-related questions.
Unfortunately, Seol-woo’s search has come up empty; he tells Dong-hyun that they need Myung-suk to come out of prison in order to force the ring out of hiding. Dong-hyun asks how things are going on the romance front with Do-ha, but alas that is also stalling.
Seol-woo explains that for a person like Do-ha, slow progress using cold and sweet tactics is essential. Our dating expert declares: “Dating is about reactions. It varies by the person and situation.”
Seol-woo encounters another snag in his romance plot when Woon-kwang calls him for dinner instead of Do-ha. At the restaurant, Seol-woo adorably fires eye-daggers at Woon-gwang when he isn’t looking, but his sulking doesn’t escape Woon-kwang’s notice. He asks pointedly if Seol-woo would rather be eating dinner with someone else, like say, a certain woman named Do-ha perhaps?
Seol-woo is surprised to be seen through so easily, but luckily a young fan recognizes Woon-kwang as Dark Death and spares him from answering. Oh, it’s Mi-eun’s kid. Woon-kwang gets into character, signing an autograph and snapping a pic for the fan.
The boy runs back to his mom and Woon-kwang’s smile fades when he sees his old flame. She apologizes, but he says it’s fine and adds that she raised a fine boy. She thanks him, then escorts her son away. Outside, she swears her son to secrecy about the meeting. He’s confused, but she explains that his father might become jealous if his son has a hero other than Dad.
Having lost his appetite for steak, the “brothers” retire to Woon-kwang’s to watch his movies. Woon-kwang motions for Seol-woo to feed him some mixed nuts, then opens wide. Reluctantly, Seol-woo complies, but is grossed out when his fingers make contact with his tongue.
Woon-kwang offers to return the favor, but Seol-woo refuses, so Woon-kwang asks if he would accept the morsel had Do-ha been the one offering it. I’m loving this Woon-kwang Fairy Godmother.
Since they’ve sworn not to keep secrets from one another, Woon-kwang asks Seol-woo for the truth on how he feels about Do-ha. Seol-woo says that she’s a colleague, but admits, “She gets in my way and worries me.” Woon-kwang concludes that he’s built a love triangle, since Seol-woo likes Do-ha but Do-ha likes him.
He takes Seol-woo’s hand and commiserates, since it’ll be hard to sway Do-ha away from himself. Seol-woo tells Woon-kwang not to worry about it, but Woon-kwang says that he isn’t worried per se, except the problem is that appearance-wise Seol-woo isn’t exactly Do-ha’s style (oh please, oh please take him on a Cinderella shopping spree).
Woon-kwang switches gears from being Seol-woo’s sworn brother to being Do-ha’s older brother, and warns Seol-woo that if he hurts Do-ha, he’ll kill him. After he gets confirmation from Seol-woo that he understands, he tells him to give it his best shot, adding, “It won’t be easy to win against me.”
At home, Do-ha is in a daze trying to sort through her contradictory feelings for Seol-woo. She can’t figure him out, but all she knows is that today he was kind and caring toward her, and that kiss… She swoons just remembering the tingly feeling.
Once Seol-woo has gone home for the night, Woon-kwang looks at his endorsement contracts and thinks back to old times with CEO Ji before they hit the big time. They went around together handing out yogurt drinks to casting directors and producers trying to get hired.
Outside, CEO Ji leaves a yogurt drink at Woon-kwang’s mailbox (awwww), and Woon-kwang comes out to confront him for putting all his money into buying back the shares from Mi-eun. CEO Ji is so committed to the cause that he offers to start off as a junior manager if Woon-kwang will have him back.
Woon-kwang scolds CEO Ji for the offer and tells him to just continue being a CEO. CEO Ji’s face brightens and he runs in after Woon-kwang, who grumps and pretends to be upset.
The new-reformed Chewing executives and Seol-woo sit down for their first meeting, and Woon-kwang proposes that Do-ha and CEO Ji be co-CEOs. Do-ha rejects it since she’d rather focus on her manager duties, noting that Woon-kwang has been back to eating chicken while she’s been busy. Woon-kwang suggests that Do-ha leave some time for dating, and (pfft) also to lower her standards and settle for someone with a “plain” face. He recommends “for example” someone like Guard Kim.
Do-ha is taken aback when all three men stare at her expectantly awaiting her answer. The memory of their kiss flashes through her mind and she shouts, “No way!” to halt the memory in its tracks. Everyone looks at her curiously after her overreaction, and Do-ha tries not to look anyone in the eyes.
Later, Seol-woo sneaks upstairs to meet with Do-ha. He grins as he tells her in a cute voice that he likes the text message she sent him which said: “Let’s meet in private.” I feel totally attacked by all of the adorableness flying left and right. Please don’t let it stop.
Do-ha demands to know if he discussed her during their dinner; he corrects her assumption and says that he spoke honestly about himself. He discloses the bit he told Woon-kwang about her getting in his way and worrying him.
She explodes after hearing that, so he says that he told Woon-kwang that he likes Do-ha, but the feelings aren’t reciprocal. He verifies that Woon-kwang won’t get the wrong idea about their relationship, so she needn’t worry about that. Then he apologies for making her uncomfortable and promises that it won’t happen again. Why do I feel hurt on his behalf over his fake feelings? This spy business is very confusing for my shipping needs.
Sharon and Department Head Jang stroll through an art exhibit on a date. They discuss Mi-eun’s attachment to Woon-kwang, and Sharon explains that Mi-eun wants him to star in a melodrama because she has always believed that Woon-kwang’s eyes were meant to be in a love story. She thinks that perhaps Mi-eun dreams of seeing that look in his eyes since she’ll never see him looking at her lovingly in real life.
Dong-hyun waits at Seol-woo’s hideout and warns him to be careful after discovering that both himself and Department Head Jang are being tailed. Seol-woo isn’t surprised and recommends that they prepare a preemptive strike against their enemies. They’ll throw out some bait and wait for the fishes to bite.
Dong-hyun asks for an update on Operation Romance and Seol-woo claims that he’s “almost there,” asserting that Do-ha has probably been thinking about him all day.
For all his smugness, he’s isn’t wrong; Do-ha is reflecting on her behavior and Seol-woo’s reaction, wondering if she acted a bit too harshly. She debates whether she should just ignore the entire situation and stop thinking about him, before deciding that she needs to face her predicament head-on.
She texts Seol-woo to meet tomorrow, and then waits late into the night for a reply. She gets frustrated and sends a follow-up message asking if he’s busy, but her tone is accusatory. Dong-hyun sees the message and urges him to answer and finish his mission, but our dating expert is playing it cool and replies, “There are times when doing nothing is the best reaction. I should leave her alone now.”
Assemblyman Baek visits Director Im, and it’s evident that their relationship is strained, so Director Im cuts to the chase and asks what he wants. It seems that Assemblyman Baek wants to team up with Director Im to take Seung-jae (but not Songsan) down.
Dong-hyun lays out their bait for Ki-chul’s boys, orchestrating a fake meeting where Dong-hyun will transfer the wood carving to Department Head Jang, and intentionally lets the eavesdroppers overhear. Later, Dong-hyun and Department Head Jang arrive at the spot as planned, while Ki-chul waits on a nearby rooftop with a sniper rifle. Once Dong-hyun takes out the wood carving, Ki-chul shoots, but the windshield of his car is bulletproof. Hahaha.
Ki-chul fires another bullet that doesn’t go through either, and prepares to fill the glass with shots until it breaks, but unfortunately for him, there’s another sniper nearby. Seol-woo fires and gets Ki-chul in the shoulder, and Dong-hyun and Department Head Jang head out for collection. Dong-hyun warns Seol-woo that they need the man alive for questioning.
Meanwhile, Do-ha still hasn’t heard from Seol-woo, and after Song-yi’s encouragement she calls Seol-woo to meet, but he answers in the middle of his operation and hangs up before she can finish her sentence. She calls back, feeling disrespected, and asks why he hasn’t responded. He answers vaguely that he had some business to attend to.
Speaking of, “that business” unclips a smoke bomb and tries to sneak away, but Seol-woo keeps firing shots to keep him from running. Do-ha asks to meet and then belatedly asks what he’s doing at the moment. He answers that he’s “hunting,” then says he’ll pick her up later and hangs up.
On the field, Seol-woo chases an injured Ki-chul down. As he closes in, Ki-chul shoots some debris and it erupts in flames, cutting Seol-woo off. Dong-hyun and Department Head Jang close in from the other direction, but Ki-chul slips through their fingers.
Seol-woo recognizes Ki-chul as the shady mechanic who messed with Woon-kwang’s car, and tells Dong-hyun to check if Ki-chul is another ghost agent. He adds that he’s on his way to meet with Do-ha because, “It’s time for me to declare my feelings and win her over.”
Department Head Jang and Dong-hyun examine the sniper rifle abandoned by Ki-chul, and Department Head Jang recognizes it. He tells Dong-hyun that Ki-chul was in fact a ghost agent, but betrayed his country for money.
Late in the night, Assemblyman Baek waits for Ki-chul to hand over the wood carving, but he is instead met by an army of black cars. Seung-jae exits to the assemblyman’s surprise, and Ki-chul follows shortly after. He understands that he’s been backstabbed, but appears to take it in stride.
Seung-jae has guessed all of Assemblyman Baek’s moves, including his intention to collude with Director Im in an attempt to oust him. He warns the assemblyman not to do it again, as if he were scolding a child who drew on the walls, then says they have a lot more work to do.
Outside Do-ha’s house, Operation Romance is well underway: Seol-woo opens his car door for Do-ha, and fastens her seatbelt without missing a beat. He lingers close to her, glancing upwards and she looks away, flustered.
He takes her to a park that has a nice view of the cityscape, and together they sip on coffee. He cites her comment earlier about enjoying coffee with a view and she’s shocked that he remembered.
Seol-woo adds that she looked a little lonely that day, and even if he doesn’t want to, he keeps learning things about her, and then wants to do things for her.
The plan seems to be working well; Do-ha gets this dreamy look in her eyes and she looks down at Seol-woo’s lips. He reels her in and says, “But I was too self-centered. Love should not be selfish.”
He tells her that she should just forget his feelings for her because he doesn’t want to be a burden. But before he can finish his sentence, she leaps forward and plants a kiss on his face. Then, internally, they both think to themselves, “I knew it.”
Do-ha: I knew it. This feeling… My heart is fluttering.
Seol-woo: I knew it. This feeling… I have a bad feeling about this.
They break away when Do-ha’s phone rings, but she looks up at him shyly. She answers the phone, and Seol-woo’s ears perk up when he hears it’s her dad, out on parole. They head back to her house where Dad is waiting outside.
Dad greets his daughter happily, but upon seeing Seol-woo he gives him the hairy eyeball and asks if he’s dating Do-ha. Seol-woo confirms it proudly, and so Dad suddenly changes his tune, calling him “son-in-law,” then pulls Seol-woo into a bear hug.
While trapped in Dad’s embrace, Seol-woo gets a troubled look on his face and thinks to himself: “I am Ghost Agent K. A shadow without a name or reputation. My duty is a nameless battle to protect freedom and order.”
COMMENTS
I think I’ve been a bit grumpy at the show because I was promised copious amounts of hilarity, cuteness, and giggles and I’ve been feeling somewhat short-changed. Despite my complaints last week, I think Park Hae-jin’s comedic side really shone through today. I loved all his adorable little gestures and faces and I honestly couldn’t get enough of Seol-woo acting childish and dorky. Dong-hyun said that Seol-woo’s specialty was in romance so maybe I underestimated his skills, and now even I’ve been charmed by the spy.
There was this cute moment after Do-ha rejected the co-CEO position, and CEO Ji was like, “Whyyy? I like being co-CEOs, CEO Cha.” The delivery was so earnest and lovely, and I kept replaying that part over and over again. Lee Shi-un is wonderful and I hope he gets more to do.
However, what I loved even more was Woon-kwang playing the middleman and trying to get the truth out of Do-ha and Seol-woo. It’s a terrible thing to do as their boss/client, but it was so enjoyable watching him prod them both that I’m almost disappointed the romance advanced so much and Do-ha realized her feelings for Seol-woo so quickly.
Speaking of those feelings, while I thought the main couple’s interactions were cute (like the one-meter stuff, and then seeing her eat her words almost immediately), I am kind of terrified of this entire ship. I mean I can’t really root for them wholeheartedly because Seol-woo hasn’t even attempted to navigate his minefield of emotions. It’s clear that he’s aware of Do-ha, but he’s still so in control of his feelings (particularly his detachment), that it makes me very nervous. I love seeing him get huffy at Woon-kwang for messing up his mission to have this romantic dinner date with Do-ha, because it leads me to believe that he’s much farther along emotionally than he realizes or even shows us in a credible way, but he’ll need to be more explicit before I can jump on this boat entirely.
In essence, my main wish is that the show believably charts Seol-woo’s emotional journey in a satisfying way because while Do-ha has fallen for him, he still seems like he’s ready to exit the scene via car bomb at any moment. It was okay up until this point because Do-ha was fighting her attraction to him, but now I’m worried it might just be cruel of Seol-woo to keep stringing her along. I thought we would see him a little more conflicted by now, but he’s cool as a cucumber. I get it, I get it, he’s a ghost spy, that’s what he does because it’s his mission. But what about my mission? I can’t swoon if I know it isn’t real at all. Just let a girl swoon! Is that too much to ask for?

This episode was so fun, I was giggling the whole time, from the slap Do-ha gave Seol-woo to the hug her father gave him! I cannot with Oppa's expressions, and the sound effects make everything even funnier!
He totally didn't see that slap coming, his shock at that and outburst that he wished it was a joke was hilarious! I wanted Do-ha to stay mad at him a little longer but I can't blame her for falling for him, he's such a charmer! His morning call voice, why so SEXY?! I think I'm gonna put that as my morning alarm!
Even when I knew he was fooling her, I couldn't help getting all giddy at his sweet gestures, like putting his coat on her, bringing her coffee, fastening her seat belt and taking her to see the night skyline! He's playing it right! When he said that he has a bad feeling when she kissed him, I yelled: because you're falling for her! Haha, it's going to be fun seeing that!
Aw, Woon-kwang ah, playing cupid, so cute! When he realized there was something fishy about them, he kept giving Do-ha the stares, that was so funny and I loved it when he told Seol-woo not to hurt Do-ha, he really cares about her, a lot! Who else thinks Mi-eun's kid is his? If so, does this mean Seung-jae doesn't know about it? Because he's so sweet with the kid I don't think he knows!
And, how cute was Seol-woo's double-blink? And his little wave?!
Thank you for the recap!

If I got a morning call like that, you can bet I would jump out of bed every morning.
Sadly, only a terrible ringing alarm for me. ? It's gonna be sooo fun to see him fall badly for her. She's adorable and so genuine.
Aww man I had suspicions about the son (Coz it's such an overused cliche) but it would be such a pity because SJ's so good to his son? Even though he's evil he's really a pretty great father from what we can see so far.

I really set that as my alarm and I woke up today with that then burst out laughing at how crazy this is, but when it comes to Oppa, I can't help it! LOL!!
He is really good, that scene when he was removing all the beans from his rice, that was adorable! I don't understand how he could be evil when he treats the kid like that!

I wish for oppa to wake me up every morning in his bedroom slippers and black socks, stand at my bedpost, and say, Wake up, babe. I hate my morning call. It's the worst, most horrible sound in the world.

Sorry I can't help pointing out that on both occasions, the kisses were actually lip bump or lip press. They looked stoned, not moving at all....
Am I wrong to say this? Maybe they are trying to show that either one of them wasn't a willing party ....

I am having a hard time getting adjusted to the female lead. I just don't like her look, eyes (something is wrong with them..surgery?) and her acting is really not in pace with PHJ! Why the bad casting...there are so many who would have done a great job with this character. She is the only reason I am not able to enjoy this series as much as I want to....I am trying so hard!

Seungjae isn't that affectionate with the kid anyway. I read it more like the kid craves for his father's attention and is always happy to see him.
In ep1, it's shown that Seungjae was picking up the kid from school for the first time in his life.

Maybe that was the kid's first day at school? Because he is so sweet to him at home! There are no cameras flashing at home so he doesn't need to pretend!!

Yes, but he still gives attention to his son, like having a bath with him, or playing some sort of game with him. I think Seung jae honestly loves his son, in his own way. Therefore, I really hope the son is his mostly becauseI don't want to go down the other road (where Woon kwang is the father). But also, we've seen the birth secret storylines too many times to count.

Yes, he does. I think it would have been obvious to us viewers if he were pretending to like his son. But I'm glad the show hasn't gone that way.

i agree with you. I wouldn't want WK to be his father. SJ, despite who he is, is a good father and his son adores him so much it would break my heart if they are not blood related. I don't want the story to go that direction.

I geared up for some weird reason in that autograph scene. I didn't even realize that was Mi-eun's son until she came over, that how little I care about that side of the story.
The way Seol-woo bobbled back and forth when Do-ha's dad hugged him made me LOL so much.

This entire episode is comedy gold! It really upped his hilarious antics! I was giggling from the start of the episode to the end, so funny! I never enjoyed an episode as much as I have today, and it's a pity DH realized her feelings for SW so quickly. I don't mind another episode of hijinks, or hilarity for that matter.

Those gestures he made...the coat, the coffee - were they genuine or not? The lines he spoke, were they automatic and fake? In the end, it didn't matter because I swooned at every gesture he made, every word he spoke. That's why I like this show - SW is so enigmatic - we can't really tell where the fakeness ends and where the truth begins. I am relying more and more on his outbursts to show me the genuine man beneath the charmer. That face after the slap, and that outrage - that was him alright haha.

The funniest part is that he was telling lies which are actually truths:
- I have no choice (coz I need to stay on the mission)
- I can't leave you (coz you are my target now)
- I said I like you (coz that's what I am supposed to say)
- I kept making mistakes (I wanna leave you but I messed up
- you kept getting in my way and worry me (coz I am trying to complete my mission ASAP)

I can feel that the coat and the coffee are all part of his strategy but what's affecting him are the little gestures/reaction of DH that I think he isn't prepared to see. He mentioned that dating is all about reaction, so he starts out something and works on whatever reaction he gets. See, when he gave the coffee, DH was wistful, i think that got into him but the after effect, he saw that DH like drinking coffee while watching the night skyline, and picked up from there.

Yes, those gestures are calculated and premeditated by Seol-woo, we all know that, but what we like is how natural and smooth he was and how swoony his actions were despite being fake-ish because somewhere deep down, there's Seol-woo's truth in it.
And he didn't pick up the coffee under the night skyline, she told him that.

what i mean was when she said about the night skyline, he used that and brought her there. He is an expert on this matters and even us are swooning on his fake actions because deep inside we want those to be true, we want that thread of hope that he is falling for her too

LOL, the "Kim So-bang" scene got to me the most. I couldn't stop laughing. Maybe because this is the first time Agent K has to face a Korean father-in-law, so his robotic expression was hilarious to watch. And that little pout on his lips? I cannot. LOL, he was probably used to foreigner/mafia father-in-law, so when a Korean father-in-law with full of affection came on him, he was in for the shock of his life!
I'm angry at the little deception Seol-woo is playing here, but I can't help melting at the things he did too. The coat, the coffee and the night skyline. Ugh, I can't wait till Do-ha turns the table on him and give him a taste of his own medicine. Do-ha needs to be extra meanie to him later. She has to!
Also, I don't think the kid is Woon-kwang's son. At least, I hope not. Seung-jae is shown to care for his son a lot, he might not be a good person, but he's a good father, I'll give him that.
Seol-woo wins for bringing out the cute in this episode. And Woon-kwang for his devilish proding/ investigating Do-ha/Kim Guard romance. I also loved it when he told Seol-woo he'd die if he hurts her. Aww, oppa! How can I not fangirl with Do-ha?

I'm so angry at him precisely for making me swoon over his fake and calculated gestures *sigh* I'm too easy!!
I agree with murasakimi, though, "this spy business is very confusing for my shipping needs."!!!!! I mean, I'm also hoping Do-ha turns the tables on him (soon, please!) but at the same time I'm not sure I can trust Seol-woo and his cuteness...I need proof he's not a robot!!
I'm torn about the kid part because this is dramaland so it makes sense that he kid is his, but at the same time they haven't really given us anything to believe this to be true.
I guess we'll have to wait! This is the first drama in years I watch while it's airing, I usually wait for the 14th episode to start watching!

Ohoho~ hello~ I've made it!
It was sweet of Seol-woo to take Do-ha to see the night skyline while drinking coffee, since it was something she briefly mentioned always wanting to do. He's so damn sweet, but because he's doing all these things as a mission and not from his heart (but from his head), I feel bad for Do-ha. I'd feel worst for her if I didn't trust that Seol-woo would eventually fall for her and have genuine feelings for her, too, so I'm watching you, man. I can see cracks of sincerity from him here and there and it's promising, alright.
Woon-kwang is just oh so sweet w/ Do-ha and as I watch more and realize that they're more than just Hallyu star and #1 Fangirl or even Hallyu star and Manager, but they're like brother and sister–like family. I now see that the relationship between them that I once thought was so weird is just a part of their familial love and affection for each other and it's quite adorable. I love big brother Woon-kwang!
The thought never even occurred to me that the little boy could be Woon-kwang's son! Omg. I kinda hope not, though.

On Do Ha: Yes, she slapped him! Now I'm not for violence, but it was so satisfying that she didn't give in immediately. He looked so perplexed that she wasn't falling for his baloney, hook line and sinker. (His lines sounded like a trashy romance novel.) And when he lost his cool after she slapped him and snapped "I wish I were joking too!"? Hah! He definitely targeted her weakness, by playing up his pity party game so that she would feel guilty about rejecting him. He really is a master manipulator. I can't blame her for falling so quickly; if someone who looked like that came at me I would probably fall harder than she did.
Also, how much do I love that DH was just staring at his lips while he was talking? Let's ignore how messed up that kiss was (He looked so disgusted and she was flustered while he was just unaffected. My heart just broke.) and talk about how there's a woman who just knows what she wants and isn't shy about it. I freaking love her!
On Seol Woo: Is the "bad feeling" because he realizes he doesn't dislike kissing her/spending time with her as much as he'd thought he would? I know there isn't always an explanation for why you fall in love with somebody or like someone as a friend, but I wonder if the reason why WK/DH bother him so much is because he hadn't put any special moves to make them like him, and they still did. Like how WK just adores him and how DH actually cared enough for his feelings last episode to apologize for hurting him. I mean, ignoring how he did save WK's life of course, but WK already treated him pretty chummily after the whole subway incident.
I figure it must be strange for SW because assumably for his past missions he targeted just one person/woman while staying as distant from everyone else as possible so it would be easier to disappear. Now it's like he's been chucked into a loving little family who's intent on making him one of them. It must be unsettling for him.
On Woon Kwang: WK continues to kill me every week with his comedic gold - "What is the UN-fact?". And when he talked about the love triangle, I'm pretty sure he forgot to mention that he likes SW (that finger stroke), LOL! I'd originally thought that WK was jealous that SW "liked" DH and not him, but he behaves just like a protective older brother and when he cautioned SW not to hurt her, my heart melted. Aww. I much prefer this oppa-dongsaeng relationship for them. And SW's little smirk was like "I can definitely win you."

On Do-ha: Same! I love that girl made up her mind and went for what she wanted. Seol-woo might be a jerk but he's super charming and for a woman who's only ever known Oppa's love her whole adult life, it's not irrational that she falls for him. Especially in the moments that he treats her really well.
On Woon-kwang: He is the best Oppa seriously. At first, I was like "which one of them are you jealous of? Do-ha for being all touchy with Kim Guard, or Kim Guard for taking Do-ha's attention away from you?" But when he gave that Oppa speech, I was really happy because their love for each other is so strong. I guess it's because they met each other at such a low point in their lives.
Fun fact: Kim Min-jung said this drama was the first time she met Park Sung-woong in her life and she was terrified of him, but then he bought her bread and told her all these dad jokes and they became super chill with each other. Even off-screen they're adorable together.

I freakin love Do-ha too! I wish people will move on from her look and see what's inside. This girl is adorable! She isn't your usual pushover candy and she loves unconditionally. How can anyone not love her? No wonder Woon-kwang adores her so much.
With Seol-woo though, I think the "bad feeling" he kept referencing here is he cares for her even though he doesn't mean to. He said in the first episode that when he romances a girl on a mission, he always feel lonely and indifference, meaning he could care less about the girl, but with Do-ha, even though he doesn't care for her in a romantic way, she bothers him. In a way, you could say she evokes a sense of protectiveness in him that he didn't think he had. It's becoming abundantly clear to me in episode 6 that's what makes him falling for her, but he doesn't realize it yet.
Woon-kwang has got to be the most awesome hyung/oppa in the whole wide world. Where can I find one? I'm genuinely moved when he said he'd kill Seol-woo if he hurts Do-ha because she was his sister long before Seol-woo became his brother. Aww!!!

Some just write her off from the first 2 episodes but you know Kim Min-jung has a lot of acting experience to make every role that she is given work.
She is a beautiful girl but she is not meant to be all dolled up for this role.

I don't think she need to be dolled up, but that hair is definitely too awful for anyone to pull off. I'm just having a hard time getting why people can't look past her outward appearance, she's a great girl really and I actually like Kim Min-jung in this. But I agree, they must have written her off from the first 2 episodes considering how crazy she got at first.
But yeah, this has been a fun watch. I haven't been hooked on anything for the past few months in kdramaland, this is the first drama that made me want to actively comment on DB again. I consider that a win!

Personally, I don't care if she's dolled up, 'pretty', or 'ugly'...in my case, I just couldn't warm up to her personality (that stunt with the car and the "I'm gonna kill oppa" thing was way too eye-roll-inducing for me) but I do agree that after the first 2 episodes you get to like her (at least I did!) Maybe because we get more info on her background or maybe because she's not as intense as she used to be...whatever it is, I'm totally on her side now!

I was bothered by her crazy tendency at first, but when I thought about it, Seol-woo did worst, he made a DIY bomb and threatened Woon-kwang with a straight face. I do not believe for one second he and Do-ha would hurt Woon-kwang, it's just that they knew it's the only way to deal with Woon-kwang's tantrums. I warmed up to her by episode 2.

Yes, you make sense! He mentioned before that he feels indifference, so maybe now that he actually feels something, it's giving him a bad feeling. Ahhhh E6. I totally fell for him in that episode. We'll have fun discussing it over the next recap (;
I wish there would be less stereotypes about how she looked, because honestly I think she's pulling it off. Trust me, if I tried to look like that... it would be a disaster. She doesn't even look bad, there's just this stereotype on how female leads have to look "typically" pretty with long hair and a feminine style. She's so adorable, it's really no wonder that WK adores her.

I feel so protective of Do ha, she's so vulnerable and innocent, she is putty in the hands of an experienced charmer like SW, and I am so conflicted, I love all his charming ways, but at the same time, I worry for her, because she keeps sinking deeper and deeper in love with him each time he pulls off one of those utterly charming acts and I am left reeling, much like Do ha is.

I've been worried about her since the ending of episode 5, it's pretty clear to us he would have used her for his mission since day 1 but it wasn't until the kiss that I felt bad for her. By actively wooing her, he's making way for more heartbreaks in her future and honestly, that doesn't sit well with me. While I swooned a lot at his gesture, I can't properly swoon or root for the OTP. It felt wrong for me. I'm hoping things clear up soon because I hate seeing Do-ha gets hurt.

I have a few theories on this
1) I suspect that he was already "disturbed" by her since the first time they met. The fact that she was immune to his "you are pretty" remark probably rattled him out of his indifference.
2. And remember when he scowled and kicked her shoes during the piggyback ride. I think he was "annoyed" at the genuine affectionate/romantic display and being "ignored"....
3. After hearing her unrequited crush, possibly he feels "bad" and "guilty", knowing he is gonna put her in a misery once he leaves.
Up to ep 5, he felt all of the above. Not love yet but at least something more than feeling nothing.

I think he was more amused than disturbed at first. But it wasn't until he started working for Woon-kwang that the feeling of disturbed magnified and he showed signs of being annoyed at the two's interaction. It wasn't romantic for him at first, I agree, but Do-ha found her way to get under his skin and he couldn't shake her off easily like other women he played with in the past. Plus I think it's because he was mainly overseas in the past, so he didn't have the same kind of root connection with the oher girls. But that's what just me.

And because I really like all the little comedic scenes (I was grinning like a fool throughout the episode)...
List of favourite moments
- When SW asked Donghyun "maybe it's because she's not pretty?". Yeah yeah, keep lying to yourself, Agent K.
- When WK got out of bed (with that ridiculously frivolous and adorable eye mask) and "Coz I'm your laaaady" started playing in the background. <3
- When WK/CEO Ji both tried to play Cupid, and WK keeps referring to SW as an average looking person, hah!
- That cute little wave SW gave her when she came in, with the squeaky sound effects and her befuddled expression.
- When SW gave that pouty lip after she told him to stay 1m away and be careful with his lips (My favouritest-favourite moment - it was like a "neener neener, I'm going to annoy you with my lips even more")
- His death glare when he had to eat dinner with WK. SW's just a grumpy child if his mission doesn't go the way he wants it to, isn't he?
- When SW got hugged by Dad and he had to repeat his motto to himself just to remind himself of what he had to stand by, HAH. The things he has to go through!
- That slow motion coat scene, though. I swooned. Damn, I'm not even DH and I've got it bad.

Decided to start watching a week or two after the show debuted, and am now caught up.
I cracked up at "The Power of Love" (by Jennifer Rush, later covered by Celine Dion) and Woon-kwang's frilly satin eyemask -- and the way he bolted out of the sack when he heard Guard Kim's voice. Just like a pooch who becomes ecstatic at the prospect of going for a walk. LOL.
The other background music that has bored its way into my brain was in episode 1. I'd never heard it before. It is exuberantly over-the-top, and totally nuts. How can you not love a rhyme like this:
"She was caught in a mudslide, eaten by a lion,
Got run over by a crappy purple Scion" ??
Train: "50 Ways to Say Goodbye" with lyrics
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Iq2Htzaddys
Hearing this song set my expectations for the show, and I've been enjoying the ride. As others have noted, MAN TO MAN doesn't take itself too seriously. In that respect, it reminds me of a toned-down GET SMART.

Aloha, YY! ;-)
I'm not sure how gabby I'm going to be. REBEL has been putting me through the wringer. Three episodes to go, and I'm hanging on by my toenails. That's because I don't have any fingernails left.
Dark Death and Do-ha are growing on me. And Guard Kim's micro expressions crack me up. It is really entertaining to watch him. I think this is the first time I'm seeing any of them.
Thank you so much for rolling out the red carpet. ;-)

Lol, I like the pooch reference. His face totally lit up when he heard Seol-woo's voice!
I did not notice the Train's song in episode 1, but it aptly describes Seol-woo's flight defense mechanism. He was so psyched faking his death after retrieving the first wood carving because he fears attachment more than anything in the world. I officially love that song!

Lezah, thanks for kickstarting favourite moments:
1. After the slap and walking away, his face had this I-wanna-crawl-into-a-big-hole....
2. Just like what most of us predicted: having him wondering aloud about her not-being-pretty (?)...
3. As mentioned before: Do Ha with her denials and your eyes are indecent and your hands are wicked. Did he do something with his hands and his eyes?
Me think Do Ha has been having wicked thoughts...heeheehee

HEH, she was definitely thinking wicked thoughts. When she said that, I was thinking, "what a way to describe his eyes and hands, girl", LOL. And then her next line was to ask him to be careful with his lips. I bet her mind went straight to the gutter!
And gosh his face when he was walking away... it was just pure unwillingness and embarrassment... and then the way he scolded Donghyun afterward. Pure gold!

And yes I love the way he was walking away too with the oh-I-am-so-scr**** face. And soon after that, tearing into DH about it ....

Totally with you there Murasakimi, the fact that he seems like he is ready to leave at any point via fake death or other means kinda scares me and makes me feel soooo anxious for Do Ha who is basically wearing her heart on her sleeve.

Sometimes I can fall into criticizing tropes and cliches, but this episode made me fall for the his-coat-over-her-shoulders and coffee break like a kdrama novice. Heck, even the 360 degree kiss (repeat episode ending, too) made me smile. I also love the behind the scenes of ordinary lives (like getting out of jail free - not) that people with an agenda can pull off. To my surprise, Man to Man is my style.

I am here to officially declare myself eating my words. I was so unimpressed with this show before because it has my least favourite premise of guy stringing girl along in a fake romance, actually falling for her, being found out, and then getting her forgiveness and love at the end. It's such an unbalanced relationship and idk mostly the guys' motivations for doing it are so douchey that there's no way for me to buy into the stories.
HOWEVER. This show successfully reeled me in with their cuteness via quirky humour. I kind of feel like Do-ha as a character doesn't give the actress anything to play with so she can't do anything extra funny or cute but the two MANS in our title are doing an amazing job charming us with their comedy and cuteness. I'm (relatively) ok with Seol-woo's plan because both he and the show itself treat it like he's a dude with a really hard job. All the things getting in his way are things that stop him from doing his job, and his reaction to successfully executing his (admittedly douchey) plans are more professional satisfaction than smugness over how easily manipulated she is. For all these reasons, consider me won over.

I was unimpressed with the show initially, because of DH. I didn't think her romance with SW would reel me it, but it did. Oh, now how I look forward to their romance, especially given how it was all a pretend for SW. I can't wait to see how he would gradually fall for DH, who is wearing her heart on her sleeve at the moment.

Yes I've to say that it's not my favourite plot genre but I agree with you, SW shows more of a professional satisfaction that he got a mission well done rather than being happy that he manipulated her (because that would make him a real jerk).
I actually think he's a lot more genuine than he would like to think he is... It shows a lot in E6. I've got so much to say when that recap comes up. ?

How adorable was Woon kwang in trying to prod information from Seol woo and Doha. I get that they are his favorite people in his inner circle that he is acting protective for them.
I am sad that the romance is progressing a bit quickly. I could stand an episode of Doha sticking to her one meter and Seolwoo wanting to break her stance. But alas it has to chug along.
I am loving all the faces PHJ makes when Seolwoo is perplexed, annoyed and just about everything when he breaks from his resting face.

I loved this episode even more than I loved the previous one. And I loved the previous episode to bits. I don't think it's because of oppa's charm that I love it so much, I feel the show has become so funny, and the whole episode just breezes along so fast. Some shows are excruciatingly slow, and this one is such a joy to watch, because I never felt bored at all - well, to be honest, I could do without the wood carvings and the sly minister and politician exchanges.
I loved the SW-DH and SW-WK scenes. His faces were hilarious - he keeps making new ones each episode, and he's getting so good at it I can't stop giggling every time he brings in a new face. Like that peanut face...the disgust LOLOL. WK talks about a triangle, and SW's face remains impassive, then when WK starts to stroke his hand with that thumb so suggestively, the dawning horror on SW's face as he realizes the triangle SW had referred to was something else entirely....so funny.
I was ecstatic when DH gave him that hard slap. WHAM! It felt so satisfying, the way she swung her hand and smacked his smooth smug face. His face hahaha, so hilarious, it kind of went out of shape...it felt so good watching his smugness dissolve into outraged splutter.
I love the father...he's hilarious and a charming scoundrel, and he's like all the men in DH's life, charming and using their charm to get what they want from her. Except for WK, who genuinely loves her, I loved that part he calls her his sister - so heartwarming.
And that action scene on the roof, I loved it. It was so smooth and suave, and he's on the phone with her while he's shooting at the guy. So cool.
The coffee under the stars....I couldn't tell which was real and which wasn't, until he spoke in voiceover..."I have a bad feeling". That enigmatic face which doesn't betray his innermost feelings is so intriguing, and I want to see it crack as he starts to fall for her.

The wood carvings and political stuff are what give our OTP excuses to stick close, so I don't mind them. I'm just curious if the third wood carving will be on someone else, thus, Seol-woo needs to really leave Do-ha for another mission. I can't help thinking it'd be sad if they date and he has to do this for life, doing everything for the sake of mission including romancing another girl.

Ugh, I'm so late to the party but I'm here to pen my thoughts now.
I've been enjoying this show since episode 2 because I saw potential in Seol-woo and Do-ha romance, of course, he hadn't fell her then, but the way he was unsettled because of her made me swoon so much. And I loved Do-ha's reaction to his smooth delivery of "You're pretty." She wasn't haughty, or overly excited, or angry, but she was calm and contained, with a mix of surprise? I like her attitude and her professionalism except when she went a little extreme on Woon-kwang. Granted I think sometimes he encouraged that behavior in her by letting her get away with it.
I share the same thought with you this week, Murasakimi. A fangirl mission is to swoon properly at the romance and Seol-woo is preventing that for me this week. I can't properly swoon when Do-ha is being sweetly in love, while Seol-woo is half faking the affection. I want a real, genuine feel from him, not his expertise in dating or his ready-to-flee mechanism.
And I must say, I really love Woon-kwang and Do-ha's oppa dongsaeng relationship. I love how they both are protective of each other and do not shy away from showing their affections for one another. When Woon-kwang threatened Seol-woo not to hurt Do-ha, I cried a little. His affection for her felt genuine, deep and moving. I initially thought he could work as a love interest for Do-ha, but now I'm satisfied with him just being a good oppa to her.
And I'm enjoying the hilarious micro comical expressions on both Park Hae-jin and Park Sung-woong' faces. They are a natural at this, I'm surprised. I even find myself pouting along with Hae-jin oppa sometimes. I love it when he pout his lips a little at every disadvantaged situation.
Man, I really love everyone in this drama, minus the baddies of course. But if I must nitpick, I wish we had gotten a better kiss scene. Seriously, why can't those two kiss better? Lol

My thoughts as I watched episode 5:
"I have no choice." ??????
"I can't leave you."??
I was worried about how Agent K would solve everything. I guess a kiss works. Hahahahaha. DH must be so confused now. Then the slap, that must have hurt See Wool a lot.
I am really enjoying this drama and I can really see Agent K and DH as a couple. I think Agent K is going to fall in love with DH but the problem will be when DH finds out that he is a spy.
Oh yes is going to be a dangerous mission. Think that Agent K is going to begin and care about Yeo and the others that work with him.
Haha Do-Ha acting all up when Yeo asked her if anything happened. The reactions by Agent K. Do-Ha trying to keep a distance between Agent K. ???. Keep one meter distance from her.
Laughing when the director asked DH and Agent K to be the passers by in the scene. And how he doesn't want to because she will kill him??, and then DH is ok we are working.???
Do-Ha :"Keep a one meter distance."???
Haha found it funny that Agent K keeps texting DH and is looking for the ring.?
Dinner with the VIP.???
Hand me the peanuts.????
The chief: "Love is in the air." ??I would like to see who his wife is, since every time she is mention they are scare of her.????
To me both DH and Agent K are thinking about each other even if he won't admit it. I like Yeo since he really cares about those around him and takes care of them. He hasn't forgotten the people that helped him in his career as an actor.
The last scene was funny, Agent K not knowing what to do.
I do think that Agent K is starting to like Do-Ha. Though is still sad that their relationship isn't real and that he still can't care for anyone that long.
I have liked this show since the first episode and have no complaints. Everyone is doing a great job.?

PHJ opppa should do oly romcoms... He is so good... He creates moments that are cute and funny, yet fluttering your heart... He really is doing a very good job in this drama... I don't want this drama to end at all....
UnKwang's character is written so beautifully that one can never really hate him.... He acts like a kid throwing tantrums.... But he is so good a person deep down that he takes care of people around him... And not to mention they are also the people who were there with him on his difficult times.... He easily forgives them and takes care of them.... I liked how he observed DoHa carefully and understood that something was going on in her life... And also I liked how he teased both SeolWoo and DoHa....
When he told SeolWoo that he would kill him if he played with her was my best scene..... I get why DoHa loves UnKwang so much...
Everyone here speaks about PHJ so much that there is nothing new for me to add....

A family, a brother, a girlfriend, now a Dad! I am loving how SW's lonely ghost agent life is turning into a full house! Can he get a pet too? I love everyone's relationships in this show, well, except for the villains. WK always seems to start light and funny but ends up being quite thoughtful and caring. I love how he said that before a brother he had a sister! He's open his heart/life to both and shows he cares for both of them. DH is naive but fierce as well, loving how she is handling SW! She gets through to him, I love how he can be so truthful when "lying" to her. It's like we get a glimpse of his true self whenever he is with DH, she just seems to trigger honest reactions from him even through his orchestrations/manipulations! This shouldn't even make sense but it does in Man x Man! Really loving how this show is coming together and moving forward with each episode. Loving the cast as everyone is so in tune! The only thing I've noticed is that the music/OST is so far not that exciting... the little musical snippets seem to be more for sound effects and it seems there are only two songs? I think if the music was more grabbing this show would be even more successful! Just a minor observation, and hoping they'll add more to the OST! Still a wonderful watch and can't wait for more! Even though I'd been hanging out for this drama since last year, whaddya know... it's become my crack drama for 2017... so far. In my book, it does everything right but where it truly excels is in the execution of this rag tag family dynamic with SW right in the middle of it. It's funny, adorable and heartwarming all that the same time.
Despite knowing that he's going to break a few hearts, I love watching him work because here's a man who actually knows how to worm his way into a woman's heart with clockwork precision. He's read the manual... maybe even co-authored it... and yet the almost cynical pragmatism underpinning all of that is striking. It's as if he's a graduate of some behaviourist school of thought.
The other thing that strikes me about SW is how much of a suave multitasker he is. For instance he's breaking and entering her home searching for the ring while he's on the phone trying to get her to have dinner with him. On another occasion he's in the middle of a rooftop gunfight when she calls. He cooly takes her call and proceeds to arrange a date with her. When his prey takes off with an injury, he tells his handler rather clinically that he's got DH right where he wants her and needs to take it to the next level. On the surface, it's a job pure and simple.
KSW is a bit of a mystery undoubtedly. I imagine all these compartments in that ever active brain of his.

Ugh, when he took her phone call in the middle of "hunting", I swooned. SO hot! A guy in mission and not ignoring the girl's phone call. I don't think I ever fell hard for a spy before.

It reminded me of that scene in Healer where Young-shin calls Healer in the middle of a fight scene and he just casually talks to her until one of the bad guys made him drop the phone then he got angry and beat the shit out of them. That was funny.

A very enjoyable episode indeed! I really had some good chuckles throughout this episode, more compared to the previous ones.
Many things I love about this episode:
- SW's little expressions crack me up, esp his reaction after DH slapped him & that grumpy face at the last second when he walked away from her. I'm giggling right now just thinking about them!
- WK being a protective Oppa and a cupid for SW & DH. His "what's the UN-fact?" left me in stitches, and also when he told DH to lower her standards and go for a plain face like Guard Kim.
- DH being flustered and overreacted when WK probed him about her relationship with SW, and her 1-meter rule. DH is really growing on me by each episode!
- DH's dad: "Who's this guy who looks like a white mochi?" LOL! And when he hugged SW calling him Kim Seobang, SW's expression and inner monologue.. he's like, 'the self-sacrifice I have to suffer for my country...' haha!
Wish this drama gets more love from Korean audience.

LOL, I like it when Woon-kwang knowingly teasing Do-ha and Seol-woo. He told Do-ha to lower her standard, while already suspecting the two to be together together, lol.
I wish this drama does better in ratings too, I seriously want them to be rewarded for their efforts in this drama. Everyone seriously rocks.

Slice of life if it counts as a genre, because its probably the least popular-in terms of shows/dramas being made on this format or genre. Moreover, most people do tend to like slice of life kdramas whenever they are made because they are so rare.

awww thank you for the recaps @murasakimi!
i'm late for the party with this recap, usually i'm at below 40 commenters but now, there are already 125 comments.
i love episode 5, so much! If not for anything else but for DH living up to my expectations and slapping SW. The dilemna of live watching, I've been waiting for episode 5 like forever, anxious of DH's reaction and glad she didn't disappoint me. Yay!
I'd still say that the episodes are so much better because of SW's deadpan expression/reactions. I think I could live just reliving those scenes.
Like what @murasakimi said, I too need some affirmation before I can fully swoon on their romance. I get the SW appears to have been affected by DH but there is still no clear indication on that. He is so in control that I could not tell if he;s play acting or if those are real emotions. I get it also why DH quickly warmed up to him and fallen for him. He's best in what he does and with his charms aimed at DH 101%, DH stands no chance but fall.
UK, oh I love him in this episode, so much! We are shown of who he really is and the biggest evidence to that are the people around him who stuck up to him for better and for worse. Behind the diva-esque facade is man who knows how to take care of his own. The bond between him and JI Daepyo is strong and I am glad they made up soon. Lee Shi Un, should be given more roles because he can carry the weight of those roles.

I agree, behind Woon-kwang diva attitude and manchild tantrums, this guy really does take good care of his people, so I can understand why Do-ha loves him so much. I love him more and more by episode 6 when he acted more like a brother/father for Do-ha than anyone else could ever be.

song mi eun is an NIS or sthg similar. That is why she had to marry MSJ because of the wood carvings. I kept thinking and searching who is agent Y. is it possible that agent Y is YEW. haha too much of imagination

Nah, if Agent Y is Yeo Woon-kwang, Seol-woo's superior would have known and informed him. And I don't think Song Mi-eun is a NIS agent. I just think it's too far-fetched. She didn't have to get married and have a kid to be on an undercover mission.

Hmm... she does seem like an agent, but way back then I am not sure if it was because of the wood carvings. My theory is that she did it to protect WK (I know, noble sacrifice and all, but this is Kdrama)! The typical cliche will be that WK will realize her sacrifices for him, that what she did was out of love for him... as far as theories about her son being his son...that could be true, but then why would SJ have married her? Is he really in love with her and wanted her at all costs? Or is there something else that made him marry her? Is there more to WK's past? I guess we'll just have to keep watching to find out! I am really finding all the characters interesting. Even Ki-chul, what is his story?

I doubt she's NIS.
She married MSJ to protect UG and most probably their child because there was no evidence that MSJ was the one behind the first accident.
Not sure how interested she is personally in the wood carvings but she probably reports to Agent Jang any useful titbits that she picks up while living with the psycho.

There were people that said PHJ lacked comedic sense, but I find his poker faces spot-on. And the way he goes through aaaaall kdrama clichés to get the girl without batting an eyelash is hilarious. Poor girl is already eating from his hand.
I know that in the end he'll realise he's fallen in love with Do-ha (c'mon, we're still in dramaland). I can't waiting for that traumatic realisation. In a way it reminds me of Chiaki in Nodame Cantabile ("I can't believe I've fallen for the weirdest fool on Campus!")
On another note, I don't know how he can end up falling for her. Do-ha is comedy gold, but romance material? Agent K's feelings feel forced.

May 7, 2017 at 10:36 AM
In a way, I can understand why you will feel that way. Do-ha hasn't given Seol-woo any good reason why she should be different or better than his previous targets. But love is illogical, falling in love could just a chemical reaction, hormonal, a spark of chemistry, a growing affection and many things, I don't necessarily think we need to understand per se why Do-ha should be any different, but it's undeniable that after meeting Do-ha and her makeshift family, Seol-woo has learnt to loosen up and let slip of his hidden self. We occasionally see the cracks in his personality that he has only ever shown Dong-hyun, his sunbae. That in itself convinced me that the romance is slowly building up, not because it was forced on Agent K. What felt forced is his deception because it masked his real feelings and we're unsure whether we should be on board with this romance or not. I hope the story next pulls through because I hate being disappointed after investing so much heart into this show.

"Beauty is in the eye of the beholder". I don't know why some have so much trouble with KMJ/DH. Not romance material?! Only good enough for comedy not romance?! And what/who is romance material supposed to look/be like?! I am sad she is getting some harsh reception for this role but understand not everyone "sees" things/people the same way.

Agree, I'm also tired of people complaining about her looks. People who think that DH doesn't deserve to be loved by SW just because of her looks are very shallow. Do they even live in real life? In reality, there are more average-looking people than pretty/handsome people, and I'd love dramas to represent that.
For me, KMJ is pretty and definitely above average-looking. If I have any complaint about her looks it's only the haircut that downplayed her beauty.

Late to the party, but enjoyed this episode very much. Park Hae-jin’s facial expressions and body language as he assumes an impassive look -- and sometimes fails to keep a straight face -- are entertaining as all get out. How the heck do you lift 1/8 inch of an eyebrow?! The dynamics between Seol-woo, Woon-kwang, and Do-ha are by turns loony and touching. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that they skirt tragedy.

There is something special about this show. It makes me laugh, and yet some parts move me to tears. A thrilling moment like the car crash scene at the end of episode 2 should have been full of adrenalin-pumping excitement, and yet when SW protected DH with the hug, the raised arm and the swerve, I was just so moved. A painful moment when SW brutally tears DH's heart to shreds can suddenly transform the next minute to hilarity. This combination, this strange mix of emotions, is something I find so refreshing, and magical.

Just wanted to thank murasakimi for such a fun recap. It's not easy to recap events and still mention your reactions to those small hilarious details (like cute little wave, sound effects, pouting into air). Dang! Until I took a look at AsianWiki, I didn't realize that I'd seen Kim Min-Jung as the female lead in STRIKE LOVE with Yoon Tae-Young, and also in FLYING BOYS and ZZANG. I've only seen Park Sung-Woong as a prosecutor in MAN ON HIGH HEELS, but I don't recall the character -- not surprising, as Cha Seung-won played the title character.
