Radiant Office: Episode 9

The bigger your secret, the harder it is to actually keep it a secret. As Ho-won and Woo-jin grow closer, he begins to worry about her in a much more personal way, and it’s growing more difficult for him to hide what he knows. It looks like Ho-won’s secret may be out soon, even though she would prefer to ignore her possible illness as long as she can.

EPISODE 9 RECAP

Alcohol and the knowledge of Ho-won’s probable terminal illness combine to overwhelm Ki-taek, and he starts to cry. He sobs to Kang-ho that they need to urge her to see a doctor, so he drunk-dials her. But she left her new phone at work, and Woo-jin picks it up.

He listens as Ki-taek blurts out everything, thinking that he’s talking to Ho-won. Woo-jin pales to hears that Ho-won is sick, maybe even dying, but he doesn’t say a word.

Kang-ho takes Ki-taek’s phone when he slumps over, exhausted. He pretends to fuss at Ki-taek for getting drunk and reciting movie lines, then hangs up. But it’s strange that whoever was on the line wasn’t speaking, and Kang-ho wonders if it was really Ho-won.

Ho-won gets home to find Hyo-ri asleep with a book on her face, and she stops to read it. It’s all about filling your days with happy things, which makes her a bit weepy.

Knowing what he knows now, Woo-jin thinks back on Ho-won’s tearful words: “I just wanted to be a good employee like you, not to die like this.” He realizes that she wasn’t just being facetious. Things like her refusal to pick the cherry blossoms and the way she collapsed in the street now seem much scarier.

He stands outside her apartment, trying and failing to call her. Upstairs, Ho-won looks out over the city from her balcony, vowing to live only happy days while she can. She looks down to see Woo-jin driving away and wonders why he was there.

Back at the office, Woo-jin objects to Manager Park’s decision to change the Hauliz product line, reminding him of his promise to give Woo-jin complete authority over new products. He’s concerned that the older designs won’t sell, but CEO Han takes the sales team’s side.

When Woo-jin continues to insist, CEO Han relaxes enough to allow a survey on the company website. The team that wins will have full control over which new products are added to the line.

Always privy to what’s really going on behind the scenes, Gu-dong informs Woo-jin that the outdated products CEO Han endorses are made by a particular subcontractor. He warns Woo-jin that CEO Han has been making back-door deals with them for years now, and that this is all a scheme to take control of the new product decisions.

Ki-taek doesn’t remember anything about calling Ho-won’s phone the night before, and he’s horrified that Kang-ho thinks someone else answered her phone. They’re both worried that this information could be leaked and that Ho-won will be fired, so they decide to find out who answered her phone and beg them not to spill the beans. Ki-taek is worried it could be Suk-kyung, but Kang-ho defends her, saying that she wouldn’t do such a heartless thing.

Ho-won is sent on an errand to the coffee shop, where she’s thrilled to run into Hyun. He seems off and says that he’s going away for a few days to nurse a wounded heart. He vaguely explains that someone he knows is sad because people don’t like and trust them, and that he hurts for that person.

Ho-won doesn’t realize that he’s talking about her, but she recognizes those feelings. She says that she’s learned that whether people like her isn’t important — what matters is if she likes them. She adds that working at Hauline taught her that, and Hyun looks impressed. Ho-won mutters that she doesn’t have much time left for such things anyway, but when Hyun looks curious, she brushes it off.

Hyun sends Ho-won back to the office before taking a call that appears to worry him. He says something about his father giving permission, and how he must be disappointed that the caller doesn’t want to live with him. He tells the person (whom he calls Hyung… could this be the mysterious brother?) that he will always support their decisions.

After doing some recon, Ki-taek and Kang-ho determine that the person who answered Ho-won’s phone couldn’t have been Gu-dong or Suk-kyung. That leaves Ji-na, Yong-jae, Woo-jin, or Manager Park.

Woo-jin takes Ho-won with him to take photos of the store displays, hoping for a chance to ask her about her illness. But she’s distracted when they drive past her college, so he takes her for a walk on the campus, where Ho-won offers to buy Woo-jin’s lunch as thanks.

She gets the giggles when a student mistakes Woo-jin for a professor, and he grouches that he doesn’t look that much older. Ho-won can’t stop herself from cheekily calling him “Professor” just to needle him. She tells him what it’s like being a Humanities major, forced to take classes you don’t want to take but that might help you get jobs.

She shrieks happily when she runs into a handsome sunbae, Tae-yang (cameo by Hyun Woo). Woo-jin hovers until Ho-won introduces him, then he wanders away so they can talk. But he watches them laugh and joke together, seething with jealousy.

When Ho-won comes back, Woo-jin sneers at her admission that she used to have a crush on Tae-yang. He asks why Tae-yang is still in school if he’s her sunbae, assuming he’s a bad student. Ho-won says he graduated top of his class, but he couldn’t find a job so he’s studying for the civil service exam.

Ho-won buys them sandwiches for lunch, and they sit by the lake to eat. Woo-jin asks why the campus is so quiet, so Ho-won explains that everyone is too busy studying and applying for internships to play outside. She tells Woo-jin that college was very different than she expected because it was all about struggling to get a job. Still, she adds wistfully that it was the happiest time of her life, because back then, she had hope.

In a meeting with Manager Park and Suk-kyung, CEO Han suggests disbanding the marketing team now that the Hauliz line has debuted. Manager Park is confident the sales team will win the online survey, and CEO Han warns Suk-kyung that they still need to increase their sales.

Manager Park remembers that Suk-kyung’s husband works for a construction company that just finished building a large apartment building. He suggests they boost their numbers by selling furniture to them, which makes Suk-kyung uncomfortable since she hasn’t told anyone that she and her husband split up.

She calls her ex to ask for the favor anyway, and he initially refuses. Suk-kyung growls that she raises their daughter while he does whatever he wants, so she wants his help in lieu of a divorce settlement so that she can get promoted.

Ki-taek spies on Yong-jae in the bathroom and learns that he had a blind date last Saturday, which removes him as a suspect for answering Ho-won’s phone. Ki-taek’s disgusted to discover they went to the same high school, and when Yong-jae asks for some tissue, Ki-taek passes him one tiny square. HA, and ewww.

Meanwhile Kang-ho sneaks into Manager Park’s office to search for clues. He ducks under the desk when Manager Park returns unexpectedly, accidentally overhearing a phone call in which Manager Park seems to be in big trouble with his wife.

Kang-ho shrinks into a tiny ball when Manager Park walks around his desk, but luckily another call distracts him enough that he doesn’t notice Kang-ho. He tells this caller that he needs to hire a few hundred people to “like” some products on a website. What a scumbag.

He leaves his office, and Kang-ho jumps back up before stealing the top page of a stack of sticky notes. He reports back to Ki-taek to do a rubbing of the page, and the words that emerge in relief spell out “Yangjae Country Club, Saturday 10 p.m.” Manager Park isn’t the person who answered Ho-won’s phone.

Ki-taek gets the awkward task of asking Ji-na what she did last Saturday, and she answers in a snippy tone that she was working. He assumes that means she answered the phone and mutters that she must feel deceived, but she mistakenly thinks that he’s talking about their relationship and storms off.

Ki-taek’s former gosiwon room manager calls to say that he left his sneakers behind. He mentions that he asked Ki-taek’s girlfriend to take them to him when she dropped by on Saturday, but she left them too.

That effectively rules out Ji-na, leaving Woo-jin as the person who must have answered Ho-won’s phone and heard Ki-taek talking about her illness. Ki-taek even confirms with the janitor that Woo-jin was working on Saturday evening.

After their long day, Woo-jin drops Ho-won at home and asks her bluntly about her illness. He doesn’t allow her to change the subject by asking how he knows, but insists that she answer his question. Ho-won says it’s true, and Woo-jin reacts as he always does when something upsets him — he gets angry.

He demands to know why she hasn’t sought treatment or told anyone at the office that she’s sick. He tries to drag her to the hospital right that moment and gets angry again when she refuses to go. Woo-jin asks how Ho-won can go to work like nothing is wrong, and she says that it’s because she loves it so much.

Ho-won reminds Woo-jin that her dream was always to get a job at a company. Woo-jin criticizes that as a flimsy excuse for not respecting her life, but Ho-won justifies that there’s no point to finding out what’s killing her, because she’ll die either way.

Woo-jin asks if she has no hope that her illness could be cured, but Ho-won counters, “And what then?” She says she wants to just do normal things and live a normal life while she can. Woo-jin is incredulous that Ho-won would let herself die without even trying.

He wants to know what happens if Hauline keeps her on and she collapses at work. Ho-won asks him to let her keep working just for this week, then she’ll leave voluntarily. She goes upstairs before he can argue with her further. She lies on her bed and reassure herself that it was still a good day, but the tears come despite her resolve.

At work the following morning, Woo-jin sees the sales team’s suggestions for the new Hauliz line and proclaims them as bad as he expected. Gu-dong believes that Manager Park and CEO Han will do anything to skew the survey in their favor, so he warns Woo-jin not to expect them to act logically. He adds that if anything goes wrong it could cause a permanent black mark on Woo-jin’s work record.

Ji-na explains to Ho-won and Ki-taek how the survey works — netizens will choose which product they like better, and the product that receives the most votes by tomorrow morning wins. She smirks that Ho-won should recognize the marketing team’s bedroom set, the same bed she slept on during the show, but Ho-won just smiles.

Later, Yong-jae worries that the sales team’s living room set isn’t doing well in the survey, so Manager Park informs him that that will soon change. But he’s still concerned that it’ll be the end for the sales team if things go wrong, since CEO Han’s nephew (the slimeball who owns the PR company that treated Ho-won so rudely) is mad about losing his contract with Hauline, and Jae-min sabotaged their online shopping catalog.

On her way to sign the contract with her ex-husband’s company to furnish their building, Suk-kyung finds a strange woman standing near her desk. She says that she’s here on behalf of OS Construction, since Suk-kyung’s ex-husband had to leave on a business trip. They go to a private meeting room, and while Yong-jae brings coffee, the woman snaps that it’s inappropriate for Suk-kyung to contact her ex about anything other than their child.

Yong-jae slinks out of the room, and once they’re alone, the woman informs Suk-kyung that she’s marrying Suk-kyung’s ex-husband next month. She repeats that unless it’s about their daughter, Suk-kyung isn’t to contact her ex-husband again.

Suk-kyung congratulates her on her upcoming nuptials but reminds her that this is business, and she curtly tells the woman not to let her person feelings get in the way. Yong-jae eavesdrops, and he mouths an impressed “WOW” at the way Suk-kyung deftly takes control of the conversation.

He runs to the break room to tell Ji-na the juicy gossip that Suk-kyung is divorced, and that the woman she’s talking with is marrying her ex-husband. Ji-na also knows that Suk-kyung met and married her ex while working at OS Construction, and she defends Suk-kyung’s decision to keep her divorce a secret.

As they talk, Kang-ho makes coffee and carefully takes in every word. Ho-won walks in, so Kang-ho gives her a tiny head-shake to warn her to keep quiet as Yong-jae and Ji-na devolve into childish finger-pointing.

The fiancee tries to shame Suk-kyung for asking her ex-husband for a favor like this, but Suk-kyung keeps it professional, telling her that she has to sign the contract since the two companies have already made a verbal agreement. When she gets back to her desk later, Kang-ho notices that she seems rattled by the confrontation.

Woo-jin goes to Ki-taek for information about Ho-won, and Ki-taek tells him the whole story. Woo-jin finds it unbelievable that Ho-won would assume she’s dying based on overheard comments, but Ki-taek says that he’s seen her experiencing some pain. Woo-jin urges Ki-taek to convince Ho-won to go to the hospital, and Ki-taek agrees while thanking Woo-jin for keeping her secret.

By the end of the work day, the sales team’s survey numbers are much higher than the marketing team’s, which has Manager Park and Yong-jae feeling pretty smug. But they suddenly notice the marketing team’s votes climbing fast, so Manager Park freaks out and demands to know what’s happening.

Ki-taek approaches Ho-won, honestly revealing that Woo-jin asked him to persuade her to go to the hospital. He says that Woo-jin seems very concerned for Ho-won, but she just tells him not to worry.

Hyun invites Ho-won, Ki-taek, and Kang-ho out for drinks. He tells them that he’s closing his hospital soon and invites them to stop by first. He shows particular interest in Ki-taek’s health, and Ki-taek admits that he sometimes gets burning stomachaches.

Kang-ho mutters to Ho-won to ask Hyun about her illness, but she shakes her head adamantly and tells Hyun that she’s fine. When Hyun mentions that he used to work at Hankook University Hospital (where they were treated after their suicide attempts), the friends exchange alarmed glances.

Manager Park takes the list of bloggers who voted for the marketing team to CEO Han, which he claims is proof that the marketing team cheated by buying votes. Woo-jin breezily admits that it’s true, then offers CEO Han another, identical list and says that he and Manager Park hired the same company. What?

Woo-jin explains to CEO Han that he discovered that Manager Park hired a company to pad their survey with three hundred votes for the sales team. So Woo-jin also hired them to add three hundred votes to the marketing team’s survey, making the survey results fair again. Brilliant.

Woo-jin calmly says that he’s aware that they boost sales by favoring certain companies, and he warns Manager Park to knock it off before he decides to make an issue of it. He sails out of the room triumphantly, but his satisfaction fades as he remembers Kang-ho asking if he answered Ho-won’s phone and heard Ki-taek mention her illness.

Kang-ho had asked him for a favor — if Woo-jin promised not to fire Ho-won until she’s ready to leave on her own, Kang-ho would give him some important information. Woo-jin had agreed, which is how he learned of Manager Park’s plans to skew the survey votes.

Furious, CEO Han orders Manager Park to stay out of the upcoming project. He tells Manager Park that he has to work the way CEO Han wants if he wants his help, and when Manager Park whines that they need to act as partners, CEO Han barks that he’ll just change partners.

He puts Manager Park on probation, telling him that Woo-jin is a step ahead of him already. Manager Park thinks to himself that he’s way ahead of CEO Han. Back in his office, he decides that if CEO Han wants a fight, then he’ll give him one. He takes a thick folder from a locked cabinet and prepares himself for battle.

After drinks with Hyun, Ki-taek and Kang-ho worry that Hyun may know them from the night they tried to off themselves (and HA, Ki-taek only just now makes the connection). Ho-won insists that Hyun wouldn’t pretend not to know them if he actually did.

That night, she writes Woo-jin a thank-you note, which she adds to a stack of notes. She thinks to herself that this is her Cinderella moment, when the clock strikes midnight and it’s time to let go of the fantasy. When she gets to work the next morning, she carefully takes in all the sights and sounds of the office, committing them to memory.

Yong-jae berates Ho-won for coming in late, and she has to remind herself that this is just the kind of person he is. She takes out the note she wrote for Ji-na, who ignores her as she and Yong-jae gossip about a couple of employees, one permanent and one a temp, who were in an accident and are hospitalized.

They think that the temp should quit his contract, since he probably won’t be able to work well after getting out of the hospital, but they agree that the permanent employee should take extended leave to rest up. Unable to stay silent, Ho-won asks why the permanent employee can take extra sick leave but the temp has to quit when they were in the same accident.

Working up to a good rant, Ho-won says that there’s no rank in life. She screams that it’s unfair to treat one person with compassion but fire the other and call him useless.

Yong-jae yells that it’s none of her business, but Ho-won yells right back, “It’s not someone else’s business, it’s mine! Do you think I want to be sick?” She says that they would do the same thing to her, and she quits on the spot.

She runs out of the office sobbing, and she doesn’t even notice that she walks right past Woo-jin. He turns around to look at her just as she clutches her stomach in pain, then falls to the floor in a dead faint. Woo-jin carries her to the hospital where he’s called Hyun to meet them, and both men look at each other with matching expressions of worry and fear.

COMMENTS

I haven’t ever really believed that Ho-won is dying, despite all of her symptoms like dizziness, stomach pain, and fainting. I think she’s probably stressed and anxious, and may even have an ulcer, especially since Ki-taek also reports stomach pain that started when he got the job at Hauline. But now I’m nearly certain that Ho-won isn’t terminal, mainly because of the way Hyun behaves whenever Ho-won mentions not having much time. My theory is that Hyun and the nurse were discussing an entirely different patient than the three in the ER that night, and the three just assumed he was looking at the medical records of one of them.

Aside from the fact that it would violate several ethical laws if Hyun knew a patient were dying and didn’t tell them, he seems genuinely baffled when Ho-won makes comments about running out of time. In fact, Hyun seemed more concerned about Ki-taek’s stomachaches than he ever has about Ho-won. He doesn’t appear to be concerned or conflicted around her, which I think he would be if he was aware that she had a terminal disease that wasn’t being treated. I really don’t think Hyun is a bad person, he’s just conflicted by the way his father treats him, and around Ho-won he’s always very relaxed and happy. I believe that, if she truly were sick, we would see him behaving very differently around Ho-won.But for now, everyone is working on the assumption that Ho-won is sick, and I find it sweet that Ki-taek and Kang-ho went to such lengths to discover who accidentally learned their friend’s secret. They’re both such great friends — Ho-won is a lucky girl.

I also appreciate that Woo-jin didn’t brood about the news for several episodes, but came right out and asked Ho-won about it. But even though it’s frustrating that she refuses to even get checked out, it’s Ho-won’s right to make that decision, so I love that her friends (especially Kang-ho) make a point to respect her wishes even if they don’t agree. I don’t expect Woo-jin to keep so quiet on the subject, particularly now that Ho-won just scared ten years off his life by passing out right in front of him for the second time. I actually hope that now that she’s in the hospital, we get to learn exactly what’s happening with Ho-won’s health. I could still be wrong, and she really could be dying.

I really enjoy the way Woo-jin and Ho-won’s relationship is developing, slowly and steadily as they get to know each other better. Love isn’t always (or even usually) about instant fireworks or accidental kisses that make your heart suddenly pound. Sometimes it just sneaks up on you when you’re not looking, until one day you realize that the person you thought was just a colleague is suddenly someone very important to you. I like that Ho-won’s feelings started to change when she learned that Woo-jin’s life while growing up was very much like her own, which got her to see him as someone similar to herself instead of a powerful, privileged manager who has never understood what it means to struggle. And Woo-jin is also experiencing a change of heart about Ho-won as he discovers that she’s not just a mediocre person who doesn’t try hard enough, but a determined young woman who is doing the very best she can with what little she has.

The show really hasn’t presented Ho-won and Woo-jin in much of a romantic light yet, but I like that. I appreciate that they’re becoming friends first, and that anything else that may come of that friendship will also grow naturally from mutual respect and understanding. I do expect Woo-jin’s feelings to experience a push now that he thinks she’s dying, and he’ll probably realize that he cares about her much more than he thought when he faces the idea of losing her. I can see him caring for her more and more as he tries to convince her to get treatment, and as Ho-won insists on living each day to the fullest, she’ll probably decide that that applies to her romantic life as well. But I think the show has laid down a nice foundation between them so far, and that anything more that comes of their feelings for each other will feel completely natural.

Something about this drama really draws me in, and I look forward to it every week! Go Ah Sung is such a delight, and I love how emotive she is.

And yes LollyPip, I too love how their relationship is developing, it's slow and steady and feels cozy <3

Thanks for the recap! :)

yes, "slow and steady and feels cozy" is right on. i think in any other drama, there's just so much angst that i want the fireworks right away but this drama has really paced itself well. it's taken a while but i'm okay with that.

I agree! I love how angst free this is. You'd think that a character with a supposed terminal illness would drive the angst up the wall, but everything just flows so naturally - it's brilliant. A lot of other drama writers should take notes - this is how to do a heartfelt rom-com!

I originally thought their interest in each other came on a bit too fast, but I love how it has just remained an interest so far and that the drama is more focused on developing a relationship rather than a romance. Episode 9 already and no jumping through hoops to give us a kiss! I like how the writer isn't focused on trying to hit certain romance milestones.

Loved this episode so much. I just realised how these two characters have changed slowly but sure. I get to see Woo-jin's soft side and how he cares more, and respects her more and more. Woo-jin is now more relaxed when he's talking to her.

The leads are doing a pretty good job here.... Her tears when she heard a contract employee has to be fired if sick is soo emotional... And i don't think she is dying.... Still i don't want KiTaek to be sick too... I like him so much.....
Seriously KiTaek and KangHo are friends to be yearned for.... So much heartwarming to see them going lengths to save HoWon.....

I'm glad at how Ki Taek and Kang Ho have changed and grown since the beginning. Dong Hwi and Hoya are very good at being funny.

Seo Hyun is becoming less of a mystery. Last episode, we heard him announcing to his dad his ambition to take over Hauline. I don't think it was said out of anger because after his conversation with hyung, he remarked something to the effect that he never thought it would be this easy. I think his hyung has just told dad he's not interested in Hauline thus the path is now clear for Seo Hyun to take over.

Kang Ho was definitely pretty brave in this episode - sneaking into Manager Park's office and confronting Woo Jin and making a deal with him. And @darcylove, I also love how much Kang Ho and Ki Taek care for Ho Won - so much that Ki Taek is getting drunk with sadness over her and Kang Ho is helping to hide her illness from the office. I really want them to all grow old together.

You know, it's very possible I misinterpreted Hyun's comment. I'm pretty sure I remember Ho-won saying those things to Hyun in the past, so to me it sounded like he was talking about her, but he's intentionally vague there so who knows? He could also have been referring to both of them.

I like how there's no crazy, jealous, ex-girlfriend or delusional girl friend to the main male lead. I hope Show won't give us a birth secret, and we'd stay away from the typical tropes...... And the way HW just quitted at the end of the episode: my everyday life... How I sometimes wonder if I could ever do the same: throw an object and yell "I'll quit!"

I love what you wrote about the development of Ho Won and Soo Jin's relationship. It's quite unlike most kdramas. Episodes ago, I could not imagine how the writer was going to bring these two together. I was bracing for some unrealistic romantic setups but thankfully it's growing beautifully.

In this episode, I really liked how Woo Jin noticed Ho Won's excitement when they drove past her college. Wasn't it so sweet of him to stop and even have lunch there?

Woo Jin was hilariously indignant at being mistaken for a professor but almost the same thing happened to a friend of mine when he went back to his alma mater a few years after graduation. I remember teasing him for it. There are so many relatable things in this drama.

Like LollyPip commented, am also loving that Ho-won & Woo-jin have mutual respect for each other above everything, that'll be such a strong base for a relationship. Am sad that she took Woo-jin's words a an advice to quit, when he actually said it because he cares so much about her health. So, is this the third or fourth time she quit? Am losing count, and somehow don't think this time will stick too...
Ji-na going to Ki-taek's gosiwon, and on a Saturday too? Seems to sign she wants him back.
Isn't Hyun-woo cameoing as his character in Wolgyesu Tailor, the Kang Tae-yang who is studying for civil exam? Love cross-drama characters ^^
Next episode come soon! Dunno how I can take it if Ho-won does have a terminal illness, augh.

I am so enticed by Seo Hyun. He is so mysterious. I also thought that maybe Ho-won wasn't sick at first but now it seems that she really is. But I'm also confuse because it seems that Ki-Taek have been experiencing the same symptoms(sromach pain) and Hyun seems quite concerned about him.
I really like the scene with Jina and Youngjae and although Jina is not my favourite person in this drama, she defended for Ms. Choi and how it wasn't in any of their business whether she's a divorcee or not. It's not like she can announce it to the whole office. It's something I can relate to in real life, not that I'm a divorcee or anything, but people in my workplace has been asking me stuff like this e.g. Did I broke up with my boyfriend or when am I getting married. I feel that no matter what happens in your personal life, you shouldn't be judge about it as long as you are capable in your work. It also shows in Ma. Choi as she was still capable at work that's why her colleagues had no idea that she was going through a lot outside work.

I think he's concerned because with alcohol and his symptoms, it sounds a lot like Ki-Taek may have an ulcer, I don't believe that he would assume he'd have something like terminal cancer with just that one symptom, especially since he's younger. Still, this is a drama, so you never know.

I'm really loving this show. I hadn't really thought about it, but I think that LollyPip is right in saying that Hyun doesn't act like he knows Ho-won is dying. I hope she isn't (and that none of our trio are) because I like her and Woo-jin together.

The best part of this episode, thought, was Suk-kyung being such a boss to the b1tchy new fiancee. I was so proud of her for how she held herself together and put the witch in her place. Clearly her husband was insane to let her go (or a wuss who couldn't handle a strong woman). I really hold out hope for a noon romance with Kang-ho, because she deserves someone who likes her as she is. Plus, her daughter already likes him, so he'd be a shoo-in! Please, show? Pretty pretty please?

This drama is so great- the characters are all so relatable. I'm in agreement with everyone that I like that the romance didn't just suddenly appear but instead has been developing naturally. It's nice to see a main couple start out just as friends and slowly have that develop instead of instant fireworks. I think Woo Jin has stronger feelings that Ho Won right now (he was so jealous of her school friend lol) but maybe we just haven't seen Ho Won in a situation that would expose her feelings at all. In any case, I can't wait for today's episode

I think Ho Won might have more overt feelings for Woo Jin if she felt that she had a future. Then again, she does seem to truly be happy to see Dr. Seo whenever he pops up. This is certainly a really nice complex drama that makes you think and entertains.

Am I the only one who wants a sad ending? Mb its the sadist in me but I want her to die. I've come to hate open endings.
But if she's not sick nd its a misunderstanding then I guess it would be ok also...

You make a very good case about how she really cannot be terminally ill. If she was, the show could not let her live (because so far, the show tried to be reasonable when it comes to cause-and-effect plotting). But at the same time, the show cannot kill her (because she is simply not a tragic character). Only possible conclusion: she's not terminal.

One of my pet peeves with dramas is instalove so I am so happy that this writer has given us a foundation for all these characters and their situations before signaling a closer relationship between the leads. I like that the side characters are being fleshed out more with stuck up girl standing up for her co-worker re: the divorce. She isn't the cookie cutter mean girl after all. I have never believed she was terminal so I'm with lollypip, I think she's stressed out. Thinking you're gonna die will do that.

You know Dave Barry's "Waiter Rule"? "If someone is nice to you but rude to the waiter, they are not a nice person."

I use a corresponding rule when it comes to TV shows: "If a drama cares about its leads but not at all about the side characters, it's not a good drama."

I agree with Barry's rule and yours, and I can tell when I'm watching one of those dramas because I start fast forwarding all the parts with the side characters when a writer does that....or dropping the whole drama.

I'm enjoying this show so much more than I thought I would after the first episode. It has a lot more heart than I thought it would, and the main girl grows on you.
Does anyone else think Ha Suk Jin has the cutest little lisp (idk what else to call it) when he talks?

Today's episode got to me. Sometimes when I looked into Woo-Jin's eyes I could see it a little water or just kind of look depressed for what was going on. He was caring about her more and more and now that this has gotten to his ears, he can't wrap his mind around what is going on. I really like the relationships that are building. And this is really the only office drama that I have really liked and really cared about everyone who was in it. I want them to succeed, personally and professionally. I now have a new favorite actress in Go Ah-Sung and I want to see more of her. I really love how she plays the character of Eun Ho-Won. And you don't know how many times I have pronounced her name as she does, so pronounced. I also need to watch more Ha Suk-Jin dramas. I love how he plays this character as well. And I don't see a lot appreciation for this shows OSTs. I always like listening to "101" by Hoyun. I always listen to it when I need some spirits picked up. Also with "For Me" by Gyepy and "Stunning" by Jung Gi-Go. I really love those. I hope more people listen to it. I hope more people love this drama.

i have this love/hate relationship with jina. i want to hate her but then she does things like call out the newbie and coming to the defense of suk-kyung that makes me think she's not the persona she presents.

you can see she's jealous of ho won because all signs--at least according to jina--seem to point that ki-taek likes ho won. i feel like she's experiencing regret. while ki-taek wasn't working, he was this sweet considerate guy that she just didn't seem to give enough credit to. i'd like for her to feel remorse for a while. am i mean? hahahaha

I think you are on to something here. It's another very nicely and efficiently portrayed multidimensional side-character in this show. I always felt that, when it comes to KT, she was not nearly as mean and coldhearted as she tried to be or tried to appear. She tries to be this office cutthroat, but she is not really up to the task. I'm pretty sure she loves KT, but she decided to dump him anyway because he was nothing but a dead weight.

I think it must be a thing to be the girlfriend of a guy trying to pass that civil service exam. It was a part of the story of Let's Drink as well. I wish we knew more about the beginning of their relationship.

I agree that she makes me mad but then has this other side as well. This forces me as a viewer to not just automatically not like her and think about her relationship with Ki Taek from her point of view. I also think she's a little insecure...I get a vibe that she thinks she's gotten her job because she's pretty and when someone thinks they haven't earned success, they doubt themselves and their abilities. But, yep, a little remorse is fine by me.

This episode is yet another amazing one. Love the trio oh soo much. And I love it when Ho Won giggles like a schoolgirl whenever she sees Dr. Seo. It also makes me giggles too with happiness and warmth.

And the two things I appreciate this drama very much which have been echo by other beanies: the pacing and the character developments for both main & side characters. I usually hate office dramas but this one is done just right.

That's what I thought but then they both got checkups that said they were fine...I'll be so said if its him, he's so adorable and just a good person. He's so selfless both in the way he loves Ji Na and even the way he treats his friends. I'll be devastated if he dies in the end

i became worried when Dr Seo enquired about his health, because he never asked those questions to Ho Won. I really hope Ki Taek won't be the one dying (i mean, i really hope no one will die), this scenario would be absolutely devastating because he's such a sweet character. Not that i won't be sad if Ho Won actually dies, but we're kinda prepared to this eventuality since the beginning. But Ki Taek ... :(

Again loving this drama ep7. Well balanced interplay between office and personal progress. I also do not think Ho Won really is sick, Dr Seo Hyun should be violating his doctor oath if he knew a patient was sick and not directly informing them. What a waste of medical degree studies to just become a businessman. I think the world respects doctors more than businessmen.

I'm unsure if Hyun is just going to close the hospital for a few days or if he's really just going to close the hospital period. Don't know how much time has passed since our temps' "suicide attempt"...3 months..? In that time, Hyun has quit his job as the ER doctor, wrote and published an entire book, built and opened a hospital, and then closed it! Probably one of the most productive people in kdrama-verse.

I was a little disappointed that Ho Won was going to resign, but I loved her outburst at the end, even though it broke my heart. I really like these moments in Radiant Office when characters (mostly Ho Won) call out the sort of office shenanigans/politics that many offices experience. I'm really glad that Ji Na stuck up for Suk-Kyung. And when Woo-Jin evened up the stakes after Manager Park tried to rig the numbers.

I'm really loving this show and I look forward to it so much. The pace is nice and the romance between Woo Jin and Ha Won is really sweet how they are coming to care for each other.
Everyone is really well fleshed out and they are growing on me. Well except for the head of Sales and his boss. Ugh.
One I can't help but think is the writer has made this like a statement of sorts about the stress in Korean society right now. My son lived there and taught English in a Hagwon for 3 years and told me the stress level on everyone there is quite intense. I was thinking of that when she described the life of students in the university. Who has time for fun when you are working so hard to get farther ahead then the person next to you. I mean life is hard everywhere- but her stories of students taking engineering classes just so it would help them find a job later..... we keep seeing this same storyline over and over again in Kdrama land. But still I watch and I root for them to get a good job, with good friends and partners- it's what we all want.
Also I like how Han Suk Jin is playing this role of the hardened guy - but really isn't hard at all. He is full of nuance and kindness- and I love how he cares for all of his staff.
Just a great show all around. You should have seen me making a beeline home after work to watch the latest episodes! One would think I have no life... right???

Great point about stress and I agree so much!

The commentary on stress is also what makes this drama very interesting.  From other dramas, we know high school students are sleep deprived from studying for college entrance exams.  Then the moment they start college, they have to prep for finding a job in an incredibly competitive environment. And work to pay their tuition. Even Ho Won's sunbae who was top of his class had trouble finding a job and is studying for the civil service exam.  And they're like 5-7 years out of college already. And with no job or with slim job prospects, it's hard to maintain a f2f or bf. And if they do get a job, you've got bosses like Manager Park and Bower who are intent on perpetuating the status quo instead of improving things for the next generation.  They're the kind of people who think just because they went through it all, it's only fair their juniors do too even though the system is so unfair.  And if you're a woman, things are more difficult.  Sukkyung is as qualified as WooJin for marketing manager, but is passed over for being a woman.  Manager Park admitted as much.  And if you're a newly single mother... Damn.  You soldier on for the little joys like getting your paycheck and using it to pay rent and to treat yourself and your friends to a buffet meal.  It's stuff like this that is truly stressful to watch rather than the wild machinations of in-laws and evil corporations.   It's stressful as a viewer to watch this, but I also keep on watching to see the happy moments and those times when the employees vent, almost as if to the audience, saying "wake up! this is wrong!"

I really look forward to this drama the most out of all the ones currently airing. That may be mostly to do with Go Ahsung who is wonderful, but I'm also really drawn in by most of the characters. The suicide squad are just precious, especially when two or three of them are together and I'm always rooting for them to do well. Woojin could just be a classic dull kdrama male lead, but the moments of softness and weakness that are bubbling up to the surface make him the most interesting character I've seen Ha Sukjin play yet. Jina is showing some great character development and I'd love to see her and Sukkyung team up to take down Jerk Manager. Jerk Manager and Youngjae can be annoying, but at least their funny and outrageous enough to hold my interest and provide some office conflict for the other characters.

The character I can't warm to is Seo Hyun, and I really want to skip every scene he's in at this point. I really don't understand him at all (if he knows Howon isn't sick why didn't he tell her or at least get her to go to the hospital??) While I'm okay with the overall plot being unrealistic, I at least want to characters to be realistic and to make sense. On the other hand I suppose if he wasn't there there wouldn't be enough conflict to extend the drama out to 16 eps.

But let's all give three cheers for now because Howon's finally going to the hospital!!!! I doubt she's really going to die, but if she's collapsing all over the place there must be something wrong with her so finally she can get the help she needs (and potentially we can get some romantic development).

the romance is slow and it always left me wanting for more.
when i watch this episode, i get so satisfied with only the slightest / simple thing our otp did. like when WJ got all teary eyed and frustrated with ho won. and his worried face when ho won fainted. i think the slow development of the romance makes me appreciated it more. there's this certain drama that i really lovee watching but i drop it halfway because i lost interest. anyway though i'm satisfied, im still hoping for a little (?) of skinship between our otp. lets hope for a kiss soon!

I know there's always a love story in 99% drama but I find this drama human magnified. It tackles the issues of what's making everyone crazy --- making money so they could exprience the so called "good life --- own house, not shabby one; own car, travelling etc.". The berate and degrade anyone who does not have these extravagant things. They make fun of people who have less of things. There's so much out there --- good health, family time...

I really love the Eun Jang Do team! I really just want all three and woojin to quit at the end. WooJin can make his own company and he'll hire the three of them.

On another note, am i the only one nervous for KiTaek. Dr. Seo telling him that he doesn't look well and to visit the hospital makes me think that he may be the one with the illness...Hopefully it's just my imagination though.
