Tomorrow With You: Episode 16 (Final)

It’s time to take one last trip with this show, which has taken us for quite a ride on its narrative tracks. Never has capturing a moment in time been so important than in this finale, where one instant can mean doom and gloom or happiness and rainbows for our couple. Each of our characters knows that they’ve got one shot to focus on saving whomever they love most, but is it enough to change the course of fate once and for all?
FINAL EPISODE RECAP
February 2019. Ma-rin writes another email to So-joon, telling him of how everything he said would come true did: the Duck Ramyun fervor, the most recent presidential election, and the Starcraft match between Lim Yo-hwan versus AlphaCraft, which she and Ki-doong spoiled for Se-young.
All the futuristic items So-joon bought for her now feel like things of the past, and she worries their time together might someday feel like that, too. Like the other emails, she schedules this one to send in February 2022.
That’s the date So-joon comes to in a hospital bed in his own home. He wonders where Ma-rin is and believes this must be a dream. It turns out the woman we saw out in the patio is his caretaker and his doctor tells Ki-doong and Se-young that So-joon was conscious for only a few moments.
Se-young points out that this is the fourth time this month So-joon has shown some activity after being comatose for two years. The doctor agrees that So-joon’s case is an anomaly; So-joon was found on the tracks severely bleeding, yet he didn’t show any other signs that would keep him in a coma for this long.
As Ki-doong and Se-young leave (he adorably takes her purse and sticks in hand in her coat pocket), he reminds her that this So-joon from the past has stayed with them for too long. She admits there are times when she thinks that So-joon is better off being in a coma than waking up to a grim reality where it will soon be three years since Ma-rin’s death. What.
He agrees that they can remain optimistic, and So-joon can choose to either return to his present or live here in 2022.
So-joon’s monitors act up again later that night, but this time So-joon starts coughing. He wakes again in the morning to see Ki-doong by his bedside and asks, “What year is it?” Ki-doong stammers in shock at his friend looking back at him and replies, “2022.”
One month later, March 2022. As So-joon rides the subway, he narrates that he’s lived in the future for one month now but he still can’t return to the time he disappeared from. Ki-doong told him that So-joon reappeared on November 30, 2019, exactly three years after Director Kim was apprehended.
So-joon realized that he skipped past his “last day,” and figured he’d been in a coma since then because he occasionally heard voices. He gave Ki-doong a belated congratulations on his marriage to Se-young, and Ki-doong asked why So-joon didn’t once ask about Ma-rin.
So-joon didn’t want to talk about it, guessing that Ma-rin had met her demise on March 25, 2019. He now lives in a future where Ma-rin no longer exists, and he isn’t able to go back to the year when Ma-rin was still alive.
Back in the present, Ma-rin worries about her eyesight because things that are level appear off-balance to her and vice versa. But her attention is turned to So-ri, who’s been reading about someone online who goes by the handle “Kkot-soonie” and has accurately predicted a number of events.
Ma-rin pulls up a livestream of a broadcast jockey dressed in regal robes who wishes to know who “Kkot-soonie” is. HA, it’s Secretary Hwang. Ma-rin recognizes him and writes off the story, but So-ri swears that all of the predictions have come true, including some unsolvable crimes. Why, Kkot-soonie even uploaded a photo of Duck Ramyun a year before it actually became popular. LOL.
So-ri is convinced that Kkot-soonie must be a time traveler whereas the real Kkot-soonie sighs, wondering how the netizens managed to find all of those hidden comments she posted. But Kkot-soonie has recently gone quiet, making people wonder if she’s traveled to the future, and Ma-rin barks at her to get back to work.
Secretary Hwang still works for Director Wang, who insists that he paid for his own night out last night. He’s sick of his nagging secretary making sure that he’s an upright businessman, but after having worked for a man who embezzled company funds, can you blame him?
Ma-rin worries that her predictions might get her incriminated, remembering when she posted them in the first place. So-joon expressed the same worry that her warnings will backfire, and they bickered over whether or not they should intervene in other people’s lives.
Ma-rin and So-joon fought over the laptop until she collapsed on top of him. He remarked that this was a risque position, and she sighed that it must’ve been hard for him to keep so many secrets about the future to himself over the years.
She pressed an ear to his heart so it could vent, and when he asked what his heart said, she replied that it often felt lonely and forlorn, but felt better because she was there. He laughed while she kept listening, and he hugged her tight.
Ma-rin meets Ki-doong and Se-young for celebratory drinks later that night, where they laugh at the comments about her. Ki-doong dampens the mood by saying that So-joon should’ve been here for this, and Ma-rin says So-joon would’ve berated her for posting so many predictions online.
She chuckles that there isn’t anything to tell now anyway, and jokes that she can’t even come clean. She admits that her upcoming photo exhibition makes her think of So-joon because it would’ve been nice if he were here to see it.
Her smile doesn’t fade until after she sends the married couple off, and buys more beer at a convenience store, where a couple bicker over who should pay. Ma-rin returns home and feeds the robot vacuum tissues while she continues to drink.
Over in March 2022, So-joon takes the subway, praying that it will take him back to the present this time. But it doesn’t work. He shares his woes with Ki-doong, telling him that even if he could go back, he’d only have two days before Ma-rin’s death.
Ki-doong has the hard task of advising his friend to move on and live out his life here in the future. What if So-joon manages to return to 2019 but isn’t able to save Ma-rin? But then he takes it back when So-joon asks what he’d do if it was Se-young.
So-joon doesn’t know what to do, worried that Ma-rin must’ve felt so alone. Ki-doong remembers that Ma-rin did think of him in her final days, but this is something out of So-joon’s hands.
“So I should live here alone?” So-joon asks. “My home is there. I’m supposed to be where Ma-rin is! Even if I could see her for one hour, no, even ten minutes… I’d really want to go back.”
As So-joon returns to his robot vacuum in his dark, empty house, Ma-rin decides to schedules her next email to So-joon for three years from now. So-joon reads it in his office, as Ma-rin writes that she’s a bit tipsy right now and wonders if he’s been cheating in the future.
She reminds him that they were supposed to watch the fireworks together on March 25, 2019, two days from now. He cracks a smile when she asks if he’s having the time of his life in the future with the hovercars and orders him to come back soon.
He looks at the desk where Ma-rin has left him a message: “I miss you.” He then reads all the emails Ma-rin sent him over the years and sobs.
So-joon visits the tree dedicated to Ma-rin, noting that while not much the future hasn’t changed much, he finds it unfamiliar territory without Ma-rin by his side. Not too far away lies Doo-shik’s marker, listed under his real name, Song Doo-il, and died on March 25, 2019.
Ma-rin arrives on the opening day of her photo exhibition and worries that no one has arrived. Her first guest is the photographer who once wrote her off, and as it turns out, the person who helped her get an award.
She still remembers the day So-joon brought Ma-rin to her studio, and admits that she genuinely wanted to take Ma-rin under her wing. She can see that Ma-rin’s talents blossomed without her.
It isn’t long before the gallery is full of guests, including Ki-doong and Se-young, who gift her with a bouquet. Even Gun-sook congratulates her, and Secretary Hwang hangs back in a corner.
In 2022, So-joon arrives at the Seoul Station stop only to find that it’s currently under construction. He sneaks in anyway, but is stopped by a construction worker. He makes up a weak excuse and tries to bribe the man, but that backfires and soon a whole group tries to usher him out.
So-joon blows past them and makes a run for it down the tunnel, determined to make it back to Ma-rin. And this time, he succeeds in hurtling back to 2019.
Ma-rin isn’t waiting outside the platform at Namyeong Station, but he need only run outside to see her standing by the subway crash memorial. He hollers, “Song Ma-rin!” and runs into her arms.
She breaks away, thinking that he’s from the past, and walks away. But So-joon follows her, saying that even if he were to travel to the past, he wouldn’t break up with her. He doesn’t regret meeting her, but he remembers how troubled he was when she lied to him about why they should’ve broken up.
Ma-rin stops in her steps as So-joon calls out, “You told my past self to break up with you, and my future self to return! That’s really like you, Song Ma-rin.” She turns and asks who he is.
Tears fill her eyes when he asks how she could send him a hundred emails. So-joon cries, “I won’t go out with Future Ma-rin. I got the email you sent yesterday three years into the future. You told me to hurry back!”
Ma-rin grabs him in an embrace and wails in his arms. He apologizes for taking so long, and she shrieks, “Do you know how long I’ve been waiting for you?”
They return home together, and Ma-rin swoops in to kiss him. He returns the kiss, and they smile at one another between kisses as they make their way toward the bedroom.
Ki-doong is working late at the office when he gets a photo of So-joon making a silly face, informing his friend of his return. He runs over to Se-young’s office to tell her the good news. She’s utterly relieved, and Ki-doong says their friend has one more surprise for them: the winning lottery numbers in March 2022.
Gun-sook meets with Secretary Hwang, explaining that she came up from Jeju to be here for Ma-rin’s photo exhibition. Secretary Hwang admits he still suffers from nightmares, but he’s gained some internet fame as a broadcast jockey.
She’s well aware of his livestream, but she wants to know more about the mysterious Kkot-soonie. He doesn’t know that much either and provides Gun-sook with some encouraging words and agrees to lend an ear whenever she likes.
After business time, Ma-rin is caught up on how So-joon was doing in 2022. He assures her that she was a great caretaker and believes that their future will be brighter now that he’s come back to her.
He asks her how she’s been doing, happy to hear that she won an award for her work. She says things haven’t been too hard for her, then amends that statement: “It was sort of hard, but I suddenly can’t seem to remember any of it because I’m so happy.”
He asks to see the exhibition, stopping at the set of candid photos of himself. He teasingly asks how she handled missing him so much, and she answers, “You came to me whenever I was about to forget you.”
She explains that he would come find her from the past, whether that was a video message or dumplings or a chance encounter. “And whenever I missed you so much, I even went around looking for you.”
She saw his past selves wait outside their house or head to Ki-doong’s place or by Seoul Station. She remembers their strained conversation on the street nearby Ki-doong’s old place, and confesses that she was out looking for him that day.
March 25, 2019. Ma-rin’s parents are on their way to see their daughter’s photo exhibition. Mom reminds her husband of how he left them, and when she puts her arm through his, he wriggles it out to grab her by the shoulder. Cute.
Both of them are taken aback to see So-joon there, and Mom greets her son-in-law with a hug. While Ma-rin drags Mom away, her father calls So-joon out to berate him on being foolish enough to return to this day.
But So-joon tells him to give it a rest since time is of the essence, because today is also Ma-rin’s father’s last day. Ma-rin had told him how her father was a fellow survivor of the 2009 subway crash, which means they all share the same fate.
Ma-rin’s father corrects him, saying that he lives for three more days. But So-joon says no one else knows what will happen today, and ever since he learned of his ability to time travel, there wasn’t a single day when he didn’t worry about the future. Oddly enough, he feels at peace today of all days, as if what he has now is enough.
He won’t give up hope since he has to take Ma-rin to the fireworks show tonight and there’s so much he wants to do with her. He’s told that the moment he chooses to give up will be the end, and says that he isn’t giving up—he plans on spending a happy day together with Ma-rin today.
Ma-rin’s father plans on being a better parent to his daughter once they get past this hurdle today, and asks if So-joon remembers the story about his daughter who lived happily with her husband.
So-joon remembers that story as the one used to coerce him into a relationship with Ma-rin. It’s only now that Ma-rin’s father admits that story was wishful thinking, but he honestly thought that they looked good together and would be happy together, whether that would be for one year or a decade. “But I don’t know if I did the right thing,” he gulps.
So-joon thanks him for bringing them together, promising to call him “Father” if they should see each other tomorrow: “I wish you the best of luck… Father.”
Ma-rin comes outside to collect So-joon and hopes that everyone can go out to dinner soon. So-joon tells her in a low voice to speak to her father some more, but Ma-rin says they have to go.
She takes him to City Hall, reminding him how they were supposed to register their marriage the day he disappeared. She grumbles to find the form right next to the divorce form, but brightens when they fill out the document.
Ma-rin then takes out her camera to record this historic moment, and after telling So-joon to smile, she asks how he feels about making their marriage official. “I’m happy,” he says solemnly before adding, “I love you.”
She’s still smiling when they go out for coffee afterward, giggling how they’re officially a family. So-joon points out a poem written on the table, entitled “Visitor” by Jung Hyun-jong:
In truth, one’s visit is a tremendous thing
for he comes with his past, present, and future
for it is because he comes with his whole life
Ma-rin says that sounds like them and thinks they can leave a message behind like this one. Another patron chimes in to inform her that’s a famous poem, and So-joon lets out a stifled laugh.
They laugh about it outside because they both had no idea it was a poem by a famed poet. He asks what they should do next, and she says they should go see the fireworks. He agrees to take the bus there, and she runs ahead of him to find the bus stop. Waitaminute, you’re not gonna go after her?!
Ma-rin reaches the street corner, where a man bumps into her, causing their marriage certificate to fly out of her hands. She runs into the street to pick it up and hold it up victoriously, and So-joon runs into the street after her and holds her close. Shit, you can’t move five feet?!
But then the oncoming car swerves to avoid them: it’s Ma-rin’s father, who stops right in right of oncoming traffic. So-joon and Ma-rin lift their heads to see him smile at them… just before the cars crash into him.
“I don’t want to talk about this anymore,” we hear So-joon narrate. “Just like the guilt I suffered when I lost my parents in the Namyeong Station crash… Ma-rin and I will face many painful days to come because of this day. But still we’ll forget… how precious this day was.”
March 2022. Ma-rin and So-joon argue before breakfast, him complaining that Ma-rin hasn’t bothered to learn how to cook, her stating that he’s been spending an awful lot on commuter costs—he’s still time traveling, isn’t he?
She complains that his constant trips are why they haven’t been able to get pregnant yet because he puts his manhood through so much on the subway. She reminds him that they even wrote up a contract and she feels disappointed whenever he breaks his promises to her.
So-joon argues that she only allows him to travel to the future to buy her pretty things, and gets worked up when she says he hardly works. She tells him to stop yelling, and he can tell that she’s upset again.
Ma-rin says he’s changed so much, but doesn’t allow him to slip away to leave things the way they are. But he says he has to provide, so she barks at him to leave and pushes him out of the way.
In the car, So-joon wonders what he did to deserve being yelled at all the time, then his phone alerts him to another one of Ma-rin’s scheduled emails addressed to him. He pulls over to check it. As he smiles, we hear him say that he still receives Ma-rin’s emails from the past from time to time… back when every second meant so much.
He calls to apologize to Ma-rin and ask his Kkot-soonie out on a date. She asks, “When?” “Today,” So-joon replies.
COMMENTS
Heartbreakingly beautiful. My heart was caught in my throat for the majority of this finale because while I yearned for a happy ending for a couple, I honestly thought they might not live to see it. Things did look dire when So-joon was trapped in the future, unable to do anything but wait as the present kept going. I could feel So-joon’s deep sense of loneliness, having to live in a broken future that didn’t include Ma-rin.
I’m not quite sure how So-joon knew that he’d make it back in time before he read all of Ma-rin’s scheduled emails, but then again, the writing has only passively suggested the rules of time travel—perhaps the same amount of time seem to pass regardless of when So-joon is. It certainly seemed like Fate was on their side when So-joon wanted to return to Ma-rin most, and just in time to spend a short time together before D-Day. Given my deep love for this couple and my deeper desire to see them reunited, however, I didn’t mind the idea of So-joon’s love and yearning winning out to bring them back together.
Even though I knew something big would’ve had to happen if our couple had any shot of being together for the long haul, I honestly thought that So-joon was prepared to die with her. His words about peace and appreciating the time he and Ma-rin had left together sounded like a dying man about to breathe his last breath. But if I’m to step back and look upon their relationship as a whole, I’m far more impressed by Ma-rin, whose life was changed forever because our hero thought it should. She opened her heart to a man who originally had no plans of getting involved in her life, and waited for her time traveling husband to come back to her. Even in her most hopeless of moments about their future together, she was still fighting for him, desperately hoping that he’d be able to come back. Her concern was rooted in their present whereas So-joon clung to the future. I thought it sweet of her to try and catch glimpses of So-joon whenever she could despite knowing that those time traveling So-joons wasn’t the one who disappeared.
Then there’s Ki-doong, who I absolutely love to pieces. Not only was he So-joon’s confidante, he also became Ma-rin’s partner in crime. His friendships with them made me laugh and cry, and I can’t ever forget him for asking the hard-hitting questions about time travel and about life. His scenes tore at my heartstrings, and he was always present with So-joon no matter what year his buddy came from. I admit to being upset with him being so hung up on Se-young in the beginning, but her character became much easier to watch and more relevant once she got together with Ki-doong. A part of me is sad that it took Doo-shik’s sacrifice for our couple to have a bright future, since that means that Mom is once again alone. He couldn’t have possibly known that they would be at that street corner at that time and be hit by the other car in the opposite direction… or did he? I suppose we’ll never know, like how we’ll never know how or when Doo-shik’s time traveling ability began.
While I won’t write up Tomorrow With You as one of my favorite attempts at time travel alone, I can say I greatly enjoyed the romance between our main couple. Shin Mina and Lee Je-hoon shared an electrifying chemistry onscreen that even made the most mundane moments of married life feel real and normal. You could tell how much fun the actors had with these characters, and I swear I caught a moment or two of either Shin Mina or Lee Je-hoon about to crack a smile. We needed to feel So-joon and Ma-rin’s magnetic need to be with one another as well as a reason to root for them to be together. Both Shin and Lee knocked it out of the park in that regard, and I feel like I need to watch a ton of behind-the-scenes clips to get my fill.
Tomorrow With You may not have been a perfect ride, but I can say with confidence that I loved how beautiful the melancholic and contemplative beats of the story were played out in the show’s direction. In many ways, I felt like our resident time traveler trying my best to remain present while my mind was worrying about the future. But then I’m reminded that time only moves in one direction for us, so the best thing we can do is to appreciate every moment and hope that our actions now will help create an even better future.

All it takes sometimes is one awesome yet not so popular show to make your presence known. This show had one of the better final episodes I've seen and one of the best OTPs ever. What are we going to do now that it's over!?

One of the best final episodes... with so many questions unanswered? I still don't even know why both men could time travel , yet she couldn't.

I thought about the same apparent gender requirement to time travel thing as well, trust me. In fact, I tried to make sense of how exactly the time travel worked. I did a bit of superficial research and combined that with other time travel shows I watched in the past. I let that form my ill informed understanding of time travel. I guess I was able to do that because I've yet to come across the perfect drama that is able to dot all it's "i"s and cross all it's "t"s. Having said that, the result that we got from the element of time travel as it affected our OTP was enough for me to appreciate the use of time travel in this show.
I would say though that I might understand your frustrations with time travel here insofar as it's something that really bugs you that makes it difficult to fully appreciate the show. There are things that are really bugging me with SWDBS that make me unable to really appreciate the show even though so many people love it.

Yeah thought about this too but then it kind of made sense to believe that Ma Rin lived more for the present while So Joon and Do Shook lived for the future, which gave them the "power" to time travel.

This was my first time seeing Lee Je-hoon; now I must find all of the things he's ever done while I wait for more works with him in them. The OTP were electric; I loved every minute they were on-screen together! Shin Mina has excellent chemistry everytime I've seen her in previous works, but these two are amazing together. Just wow. \(^o^)/ The second leads were great once they got together, too! And Ma-rin's parents were cute last episode when they finally met again. Overall, I enjoyed the show. I didn't mind the unexplained side plots or technicalities as the pairings were strong enough to carry my interest. I was hesitant in starting to watch this show, but I'm glad I did. Off to watch Signal to see LJH again. Hopefully I can keep my timelines in order!

Oh. My. Gosh!
You absolutely have to watch Signal. One of the reasons why I watched this show is because of Lee je hoon and his amazing acting! Signal will definitely pull at your heart and the story itself is laid out so well. Be prepared for the emotional rollercoaster. For me, it is one of my top drama that I have seen!

It felt like the "right thing to do" was to really let Doo Shik step in and save our couple, to make up for all the missteps he's done? Sad way to do it, but thankful that our couple survived past the dreaded March 25 2019.
I just wish the ending was hmm sweeter, for the lack of better term? I was hoping the drama will end with the two of them in one frame. What we got is the two of them bickering over a credit card statement, then making up via a phone call (with a futuristic phone at that - does that phone exist today?!) and making plans for today. Which, I guess, also works in a way, given how Ma Rin was stuck in the past and So Joon was worried about the future and now we see them living and dealing with today.
On another note, the highlight for me was that reunion scene! That was so, so satisfying and that makeout scene after. Rawr. Can we get a Part 2 where they deal with their life as a family this time? Let's keep the time traveling to a minimum and stick with the slice of life stories.
Like the others have said time and again, there are so many ways the plot lines can be more solid or tighter, but it's Lee Je Hoon and Shin Mina's portrayal of So Joon and Ma Rin that really made it work for me. They portrayed their chracters so effortlessly and beautifully that you just can't help but root for them (both as their characters and in real life, heh #sorrynotsorry).
I also love the poem in the end, as I feel like it captures what it means to be in a relationship with someone. We all go into it with our past, present and future selves, and as the drama has shown us, there's nothing we can do but love and live in the present, to trust the process, so to speak. It's an investment of your whole being.
I'm gonna miss dissecting the scenes and going through the ~feels~ with you guys! Thanks gummimochi for the wonderful recaps and the rest of the gang for the entertaining and enlightening comments. On to the next drama! ❤

I loved the ending and thought it beautifully sweet. We see them past the protracted honeymoon phase and into the more realistic "we've been married for a while" phase. It was made even better because they have elements of their past selves in there, but have also changed in such a way that their experiences have shaped how they interact and respond.
About the phone, aren't they in 2022 at that time?

I love, love the reunion scene so much. I cried and cried in the middle of the night watching So Joon hugs Ma Rin and when they both cry. Such a powerful act by both actors. Am so gonna re-watch this drama, after the finale somehow I got a better point of view of the whole story. I hope LJH and SMA will be casted in another dramas soon, so the wait for them won't be long.

Me too ! I love that Ma Rin slowly backed away from So Joon, because she thought it was past SJ, I completely forgot about that, was impressed by writing for a mo.
And the way Ma Rin's eyes slowly welled up in tears after she realizes that he's present So Joon, sobs. That was some awesome performance by her.

Still don't understand why So Joon was stuck in 2022 for a while and why he suddenly was able to return. But other than that, this was such a bittersweet ending. I love that our main couple is okay, but Ahjussi! *cries*
Anyway, thanks for the recap! Although I was so frustrated for a good chunk of it, I think I'll really miss this show. The characters and this ending just did it for me.

They've never revealed why he was stuck in 2022. Probably the same reason why he was in a coma from a stab womb. I wonder if he just short-circuited from a near death experience and it took awhile to heal.
I feel really bad for ahjusshi. If I read the subs correctly, he held off from really connecting with his daughter the past few years because he didn't want her to get too attached to him.

More like He finally goes to the future further and it cause him in a coma for two years. Just like it cause him faint for several hours after his disappearance experience in a timeline when he is supposed to die.

hi, just putting in my 2 cents here but, you remember how in the beginning of the show (when he gave a rather vague explanation to the viewers of time travelling), he said that time-traveling takes a lot of energy from his body?
With the terrible blood loss, is it possible that his body was too weak to handle the travel?

One thing that mystified me: How So-joon could sprint like Usain Bolt so soon after being comatose in bed for 2 years. I can only surmise that being filthy rich enabled him to have medical care that prevented the contractures that would have rendered him unable to walk (as happened to someone I know who wasn't expected to survive ovarian cancer, but miraculously did).

My take why he managed to time travel on 24 March back was because he walked past the tunnel. That was how his time travel started in their initial episode's explanation, when he went into the tunnel to offer his flowers to his parents, he experienced the headache that made him time travel.

I'm so sad it has ended. I started it off not having much expectation but I fell in love with the chemistry on screen between Shin Min-ah and Lee Je-hoon, one of the most genuine chemistry I've seen in a dramas. I love the plot, I don't care for the plot holes when I'm so into the drama, I'm broken in sad scenes and so happy in the happy scenes.
Some of the things that irks me though, is Shin Min-ah's crying scenes. I don't think she can cry. Every time she cries, I ask, ughh why you must whine like that.
Also the happy romantic scenes shown in nostalgia in ep 15. I don't think it has a place in the whole timeline, but I'm happy to see romantic scenes of course.
Overall, nice drama! Looking forward to 2017 with more great dramas like this!

When you are in long term relationship, there are times you simply stop trying or take your partner for granted. We can see through the morning argument between So Joon and Ma Rin. But what I loved from the ending is when ocassionally So Joon rechieved mail from past Ma Rin, he remembers the tough time they need to pass to be together. Therefore he makes the effort to apologize first, and ai love it. Although I have mixed feelings about So Joon still go the future, I thought by the end of the drama it will teach us to appreciate the present (more than pretty bew things from the future) hahaha

I was irked by the bickering scene at first and thought the drama was wasting the last few precious moments of the drama, but when he got that email, I was relieved and totally got it that it is easy to fall into old rhythms and to take your partner for granted, and that because you love that person and that person loves you, you should make an effort.
I sort of wish So Joon had lost his powers to go into the future. I feel like the Namyeong station portion of their lives should be over. Unless the grim reaper is going after them again in 10 years...

@ar I was thinking about the whole cheating death thing as well and that eventually the grim reaper would show his head again. The Final Destination movies keep gnawing away at me. Anyway, when I thought about it for a bit, it really didn't bother me too much because of So Joon comment that he was at peace with their possible fate. Yes, granted, these feelings can change over time, especially given his return to time travelling, but I still think he--and by extension they--are better for their experiences now, so come what may.

Seeing it in action makes me really not want a transparent phone. I mean, yes its cool but everyone can see who youre calling when you hold the phone up to your ear. People can spy on your texts more easily. Could you imagine how much more obvious itd be if you were trying to take stealth selfies? Plus, it'll be even more difficult for you to see whats on your screen if its partially transparent.

This drama does have its flaws. I am reminded of it everytime i think about what happened in Episode 15. But again and again, what made Tomorrow With You a drama i will forever treasure is the way it tackles relationship. I love watching our couple bicker on simple things, peel a fruit that leads to passionate love making, cooking ramen, having a walk by the shore, and just enjoying the company of one another. So Joon and Ma Rin will forever be etched in my mind. They will always be a reminder to me to live in the moment. Enjoy the now and to go on a date. Today.
I am thankful for the PD for giving us those long continues scene. He also made us believe that they are a real couple. He gave us so many romantic moments even with all the doom hanging over our couple. He also showed us the versality od Shin Mina and Lee Je Hoon. So thanks so much for all of those. Music, cinematography, visual effects, and others made this drama so much more special. This is a great example of what a fully preproduced drama can do. I hope for many more like this.

The long continuing scenes is what make this drama standout. Most dramas would just cut after a dialogue or two, but the director let us in like what usually happens in real life. It's those intimate conversations that captures the essence of the series. The PD was very meticulous and detailed when it comes to people's reactions and flow. TWY will be forever be etched in my heart as one of the dramas that showed what it means to love and what it takes to keep that love from wilting away...

You don't want to talk about it? But you just spent sixteen episodes talking about it. I am left with so many questions. If Doo Shik didn't gain his time traveling abilities until the Namyeong Station accident, then why did he leave his family in the first place? Why did he say to his wife, "I don't know why I was so curious about everything back then" if "back then" didn't mean the time he left them? Why did he act like a time traveler sunbae to So Joon? Is Ma Rin destined to die every ten years unless someone sacrifices their life for her?
Fantasy dramas live or die by their endings (Queen In Hyun's Man, W, God’s Gift), and I don't believe Tomorrow With You's writer knew how to resolve the mystery. The story derailed in the last few episodes with Director Kim's arc where everyone lost all common sense. I was frustrated to the point that I couldn't help but think, "You all deserve to die for being so stupid." So Joon being in a coma for two years felt too much like a convenient cliche.
While Tomorrow With You is not the masterpiece I once touted it to be, the couple made the ride worth it. Lee Je Hoon and Shin Mina's chemistry was out of this world. They felt every bit like a married couple -- they argued like a married couple; they made up like a married couple. I swooned over all their lovey-doviness. So Joon's "saranghae" made my heart flutter (especially with the way Ma Rin was filming with her camera, it felt like he was saying it to me ?). I was overjoyed for So Joon when he was finally able to travel back to the present; I had a feeling he would make it because the tunnel was how he first traveled to the future. It was bittersweet how all of Future Ma Rin's encounters were actually her looking for him whenever she missed him so much. I'm a little disappointed Ma Rin never found out So Joon only married her to save his life and wasn't in love with her when he proposed because I wanted to see how their marriage would get past that, but I'm convinced his letter where he wrote, "If I were to go back in time and had to choose again, I would choose you" is proof that the end justifies the means.

About the 10 year rule- I was watching to see if there was any indication that it was now broken.
I have a couple theories... but none of them are fully convincing when they're just speculations on my part.
Theory one is that the 10 year rule is now broken at least with respect to Sojoon and his trajectory in life because he's decided to fully immerse himself in his current life. Although even if it's not broken, it shouldn't matter given Sojoon's newfound perspective on how to approach his life.
I wonder if Sojoon and Dooshik's conversation where Sojoon sounds so resigned gave Dooshik the motivation to do what he did. Although without the conversation, I'm sure he still would have done it. I think it's telling that Dooshik's goal was to be a good father once he got Marin out alive. Whereas Sojoon decided to take the other road of- be good to Marin now, even if it means we die tomorrow.
Theory two is that the 10 year rule isn't a rule at all, despite the show clearly announcing itself as a rule? I mean- wasn't Marin also destined to get in that car accident when Sojoon saved her at the very beginning when he started hitting on her? BTW-why was this SO much easier than saving her from the 2019 accident?? And why couldn't have just held on to her for dear life all day? i mean his past attempts at changing the future seemed ridonkulous, so I shouldn't be asking these silly questions. And that date of the first accident didn't seem to have any significance. So maybe there's no 10 year rule at all?

I believe Doo Shik only got his time traveling abilities after the incident at the station. Or he had it all along but was dormant until after that point. We know this because he was selling toothbrushes on the train. If he was time traveling before then, he wouldn't be funding himself doing that, just play the lottery. Him giving a boatload of money away to director kim shows he can afford that, and more, quite easily.
But yeah, the writing got really frustrating. After Se young's dad's death they learnt absolutely nothing. Not seeing him off at the airport and then not taking Ma rin home??

We're in the same boat, panshel. I'm still wondering what caused the train to explode in the first place. To me it looked like a gasoline explosion, for Pete's sake -- which makes no sense. I guess I'll chalk it up to a spontaneous release of potential energy by a localized anomaly in the space-time continuum that is somehow locked onto the ch'i of two specific individuals. Is it a MacGuffin? Is it deus ex machina? Arrrgh! I'll have to somehow turn off my brain and just enjoy the romance and terrific acting. It would have been so much easier to grok if talismans were involved a la QUEEN IN-HYUN'S MAN. ;-)
Why didn't Ma-rin put the doggone marriage certificate in her handbag? Why did she run out into traffic to retrieve it -- and then dawdle in the crosswalk like a dummie? She could easily get another certified copy. Hmmm... Must stop obsessing. ;-)

I believe Doo Shik just lied about being his time-travelling sunbae to gain influence over him. Remember, unreliable informants are a recurring theme here.
As to why he left his family, from what I understood, it just wasn't working out back then. They were very young, he was a highschooler. When he and Ma Rin mum were talking on a street it sounded more like he was seduced at best, but more likely raped and forced into marriage (and expelled).

Huge thank you to gummimochi and everyone else following these recaps on all your insightful comments on this drama. Really elevated my viewing experience to get everyone's point of view on the very thoughtful and winning relationship between Sojoon and Marin.
The ending left me satisfied, mostly because I was convinced everyone was going to die, and that didn't happen. So that alone forgave any problems I saw.
Only problem that I have a harder time swallowing is that I'm a little bit perturbed that Sojoon continues to go to the future, even if it's for the little things. I was hoping that his time traveling days were over. Although I supposed the drama ended on a note that Sojoon does ultimatley appreciate the future more than anything. So I'll trust him with Marin's heart :)

I just recently realized kidoong was the slave of the stuttering scholar in Moonlight and I feel so proud seeing him here being one of my favorite characters! Way to go kidoongie! I love that he's probably the first person so joon texted upon returning. And he had enough sense not to call so the couple can get their secy times on. Heehee. I'm glad he finally got the winning lottery numbers. He totally deserves it being such a great friend to our couple in any timeline.
Thank goodness it was a happy ending! I watched the raw just to assure myself that they are together. Their chemistry is off the charts, it made me feel every heartache and flutter. Would have loved to see them have 3 kids - that would have made Dooshik's sacrifice more fulfilling.
But obviously for as long as they're together, appreciating what they have in the now and being realistically married together, I'm just happy.
Thank you DB for sticking with this show even when Korea has seemed to abandon it already. And thank you to the community here for the discussions every week ?

I really like the main actors-Shi mina and Lee Je Hoon- both of them is my favorite and looks like the chemistry between them is great. May be I should keep this drama for this week end.

I just feel that... The big mystery was presented as the big 'Why' behind So Joon and Ma Rin's deaths on March 25, 2019. And this was dealt with in the space of a minute. The whole show could have been avoided if So Joon had simply stopped Ma Rin from trying to cross the road, five minutes before the accident.

Mehhh. Spent 30 minutes writing a goodbye to the only drama that I've watched in the past 2 months but my laptop froze and I had to restart. Sigh.
Anyway, it's been an awesome ride. The time travelling stuff could have been written better with definite rules to how it works. That left me a bit disappointed. Still, I believe that this drama is about Sojoon and Marin's relationship first and foremost. In that aspect, the drama delivered. The show wouldn't have worked if Lee Jehoon and Shin Minah didn't make it believable for the viewers that they are indeed in love. Because of that, I'm satisfied at how this ended.
I can't be any happier that this was pre-produced. I feel like the ratings could have affected their mood and pressured them. Watching the behind the scenes, they looked like they just enjoyed filming with each other.
Ahhh... After clicking submit, the drama will officially end. I still don't want to let go. ㅠㅠ It feels like I have to go back to reality now but I don't want to. Thanks to all the people who worked hard to bring this drama to us viewers. Thanks gummimochi for the recaps!

I have a feeling that I'm going to end up gushing about this drama here but I'm fine with that. This finale episode was one of the more rewarding and enjoyable of any drama I've seen. The way certain elements came full circle made me beam from ear to ear. Sure, there were some issues, but they were forgivable/negligible in the grander scheme of things.
Three moments made of solid gold
So Joon's obsession with their future/his incessant time traveling for most of the show, coupled with Ma Rin's desire for So Joon to live in the present, these two elements saved their relationship and an interesting way. I didn't think to think that So Joon's intermittent appearances during his present day absence would have made life more bearable for Ma Rin. This is the same present day Ma Rin who wanted her husband to live in the present and because of this jealousy he was able to be a better husband. Thus they both grew closer and fell in love even more.
Finally So Joon made peace with his possible fate and just wanted to live well for whatever time he and Ma Rin had left. That discussion he had with Doo Shik was the pay off I've been waiting for in So Joon's development as a(n) individual/husband/character.
When they went to register their marriage, I fell in love with So Joon/Je Hoon all over again. Je Hoon played that scene oh so well. It was so understated and nuanced on his part that it was made so much more impactful.
I really appreciated that our OTP had lots of sex in this show and it wasn't insinuated that they did the dirty. So many other dramas make it seem like just the very mention of wanting to/engaging in sex is more than we can bear. Many other shows have scant intimate moments that some fans count the number of kisses our OTP has. Heck, almost every moment our OTP were together in that short period of time felt so rewarding. The ending after Doo Shik's sacrifice was really good as well. They aren't always going to be swooning after one another. This is a married couple after all. We had pieces of their old selves mixed in with their new selves, but because of their experiences and growth, we trust that everything will be ok.
Two things I didn't like: yet again, villain who commits atrocious and unforgivable crimes just disappears with no satisfying comeuppance. Sure, we infer that he's arrested and rotting away somewhere, but give us something more would you.

Ma Rin stands in the middle of a busy street all happy that she...

You're right about that scene when they're registering their marriage. It was an incredible portrayal by Lee Je-Hoon!!
They were finally registering their marriage, but it was also the day of their death. I don't doubt that SJ was indeed happy as he said, but you could also see the other conflicting emotions in his face; him probably thinking that they might be living their last moments... Gawwd, that was so good it hurt!
I hope LJH makes more romances in the future and that he can team-up with SMA again. Their chemistry was out of this world.

Their romance was the ONLY reason for me watching the show. I got increasingly frustrated with So Joon's obsession with the future and the way he couldn't seem to just SIT IN THE PRESENT and ENJOY the time with his wife, but the last episode brought a certain satisfaction to him being more appreciative of his current time with Ma Rin.

Wow, I think you articulated most of my own thoughts on this finale! This drama definitely was not perfect and had multiple flaws both with its characters and time-travel plot points. But as gummimochi mentioned and as I kept observing, the strength of this drama really lay with the Ma-rin and So-joon's relationship. I found that despite their flaws, their characters were consistent and so well played that it felt real. I couldn't agree more that these two's mundane day-to-day petty arguments, personal disparities, and preoccupation with genuine life-or-death choices in matters among others felt organic and true to life.
I really enjoyed this drama. I agree with gummimochi, everything from the direction, to the music, aesthetics, beautiful actors and moving performances made this worth the ride. While I would exercise caution by recommending this only to those with the patience to watch flawed characters slowly make their way to the finish line, this will at least remain at the top of my list of dramas that personally moved me.

I adored this show. What started out as something that I considered much too melancholy and slow for my taste turned into a wonderfully woven thriller complete with chemistry filled romance and very high stakes. I just couldn't get enough of So Joon and Ma Rin who's love for one another was one of the most realistic things I'd seen in a drama.
My only thing is that there are def some plot holes, which is a given when it comes to time travel - so I'm pretty forgiving of them. Like Coma So Joon for instance. Like if So Joon went back from 2022 and lived out his 2019 life towards 2022 does the future we saw before change? like theres still 2 years missing from his life when he was in a comma so his comma bod would have to still exist there from nov 30 2019 (when his coma body showed up in the subway) to 2022. So would he and his comma bod exist in the future together? Would comma bod wake up and have to be sent back to 2019 as well? Would there be a vicious cycle of his comma body forever going back to 2019? Idk Man. Idk.
And also if you know that you're getting in a car accident on March 25th wouldn't it make sense to, well i dont know, sit your ass at home all day? Like he prevented Ma Rin from being crippled by pulling her out of the street earlier in the series, why couldn't he do the same now. Why So Joon choose to leave his house on a day when he was predicted to die is beyond my level of expertise. But Whatevs, I still had fun.

SJ had accepted their fate, he was done controlling the future...and that's why when MR walked into the street he went to shield her so they can meet their fate instead of avoiding it...he was greatful for the moments spent with her...remember he didn't even think he could come back....he just wanted to live those moments making her happy...meaning leave the house and go do what she wants to do, whatever makes her happy....then at the time of death just accept it and stop fighting it but DS had other plans

I like the fact that event is parallel to Future So Joon Action in episode 3. The reaction is similar. Both Future SJ and Present SJ in those event have a choice to avoid their doom fate. But both version choose to face it. But this time, instead of saw her death alone from afar with so much regret in his eyes, He is witnessing her happiness holding his arm, facing their doom fate together with peace. That's one of the most powerfull scene.

I doubt if he actually told Ma rin that today was the day they were supposed to die she'd want to take a chance and cross streets and such. I wish he'd had shared the knowledge with her, after all this affects her too.

I took it that he realized sometimes fate just plays out no matter what he does. Se Young's dad still passed away despite his best efforts and ma Rin still got kidnapped. Like the rest of us normal people, he decided to just live his life so this time he didn't try to dissuade ma Rin from what she wanted to do.

I love this drama and how much it makes my heart alternate between hurting and soaring. I can't recall a drama that has made the feeling of longing so palpable. Kudos to Shin Mina, Lee Je Hoon, all the supporting cast members, the director, and writer. The director and writer were definitely a surprise. I never would have imagined that they'd be able to turn out this quiet yet thrilling drama with its long sweeping shots.
I was satisfied that our couple made it out alive, but didn't really like the execution with Marin chasing after the marriage certificate and that moment being filmed in slow-mo. It felt a little cliche and silly (like taking an arrow for someone when you could have pushed them down). When we first saw Marin get hit by a car in So Joon's trip to 3/25/2019, it was unexpected, fast, and brutal - and it just felt unavoidable. The way it was filmed made it look like they're put themselves in unnecessary danger.
However the rest of the episode was just amazing. I love how Marin and SoJoon's actions parallel each other. So Joon wrote a letter to future Marin during their seaside trip and Marin was writing letters to So Joon residing in the future. And So Joon heartstopping run through the tunnels. Marin pulling a So Joon in spoiling the Starcraft match.
The SJ+Ki Doing+Se Young friendship and the MR+Ki Doong+Se young friendship. Secretary Hwang's segment on Kkot-soonie dressed in period garb.
I'm going to miss Marin and Sojoon so much!

I also wondered why SJ didn't simply tell Marin that they should postpone seeing the fireworks for now and go home. However I think that SJ was afraid that fate/time would just come back around for them the day after that or the day after, and give them the sad ending. So he probably thought that it would be better to face his and Marin's "tomorrow" head-on, and if they survived that meant they won... and they survived! At least I like to explain it like that.

His actions in the finale indicated that he's resigned to just face whatever's going to happen. He even let Ma Rin go to find the bus stop, with just a simple 'be careful'. And to die together I gather, because they aren't even moving from the middle of the street hmphh

I didn't expect this one to hit me as hard as it did... The week leading up to these last two episodes, I felt like I was having actual chest pains realizing just how much I had fallen in love with our main couple, and how hard it was going to be to let them go.
This drama really confirmed that, for me, characters come first. I think that the drama did suffer from some slightly weak/circular writing at times, but the genuine warmth of the show...combined with some superb directing and acting, really elevated it to another level that will stay with me for a long time.
Despite the time-travel, this drama was more than anything else, a love story. And it absolutely succeeded in that aspect—managing to craft a uniquely introspective look at a relationship that felt painfully real and intimate and imperfect as reality. This is how you do a bittersweet romance and make it compelling and rewarding for your audience. It may be because I'm currently wailing listening to the OST as I type this, but I don't think I'll be able to forget this one easily...

Agreed. The sad truth is that thing might be one of the biggest factor TWY got low rating, and one of the reasons one drama appeals to some and simply doesn't work for others. For some viewers who looked for tight plot and fast pace, the characters in TWY probably didn't keep their interest so they drop the show. On the other hand, there are some people like us who found love in the characters first before the plot, hence sticking to this until the very end (albeit loosing some hair bcs of the Show's logic in the process).

Thank you gummimochi for recapping the whole 16 episodes and making this drama viewing more fun and exciting.
I agree that this is not the best drama and the perfect one but it taken a special place in my heart.
I love it even with its flaws. The character was very dear to me and I don't think I'll ever forget them especially Kidoong and Secretary Hwang.
Marin and Sojoon is the OTP that will be very special to me because their relationship and their long talks just felt so real.
I still feel nervous from time to time thinking about their fate may change or will their fate remain the same. Even at the end of the drama I still feel anxious, maybe because like SJ I'm focusing too much on my future instead of living my life in the present so I actually learned a lot from this drama.
I will truly miss Marin and Sojoon's sweet talks and LJH and SMN's amaing chemistry.
Lastly, I still can't stop cracking up at TWY's directors cameo in the last episode. I adore him in every bts because he looks like a big shipper of LJHXSMN like me. Now I love him to bits because one- he is a great director, and two- he's damn so funny, and three- He's the number 1 shipper of LJH and SMN.
p.s. The good Oh tVN released TWY's instrumentals and I can't stop gushing over it. So magical!!!

The director is hilarious! It seems that he's letting them explore the characters and do as much adlib as they want.m He's the first one to laugh at cute scenes and the first one to tease the couple. And yeah, he's totally their number 1 shipper.

I'm not really a huge fan of Shin Min-ah (still am) so I was kinda not wanna watch this drama at first but the 6 minutes trailer got me hooked up. Its like the romance between them both is flooding out and made me drown already.
No kidding, Lee Je-hoon aced it this time. Not that he didnt before but I seriously can't see anyone else to potray Yoo So-joon better than him. It felt so real everytime he smiled, cried, falling in love again with Ma-rin, the touches, the kinkyness and everything! He should do more rom-coms but please be a bit selective the next time and choose a character that could highlight more on your romantic side, oppa please? I love that every emotion he felt it looks so natural on him and I swooooooooon.
For me the only thing that made me still have faith on this drama is totally because of SJ and MR. Marriage life is always a roller coaster ride and they've made it a solid statement. The happy moments, bickering over small things early in the morning, made up kisses, the urge to protect each other from getting hurt does seems like it was normal and natural for married couple to act so although it was just an acting afterall. They made me believed in marriage once again.
I agreed with one of the comment about the sex scenes and thank you writer-nim for loading the drama with the sufficient amount. I mean what is marriage life without some shirtless scene right? *swooooooon again*.
So thank you to the director, writer and the whole production for this beautiful drama. Korea seems to abandon this drama but the world appreciates them the most. It will take quite sometime for me to move on but hey, isn't that a good news? ?. More of Lee Je-hoon and Shin Min-ah please???

The scene in the finale that made me grumble was when SJ went and grabbed MR in the middle of the street, and it doesn't help that they're making it a slow-mo, just went out of the way already! But the fact that SJ just let MR go about her way, looking for the bus stop made him endearing to me. He's resigned to whatever fate's awaiting for them, but he's also ready to die together (albeit foolishly). And does Doo Shik has to die like that? Hmph.
Thank you gummimochi for excellent recaps and thoughts for all these episodes ( I realize girlfriday had her parts, too, thank you!) and for fellow beanies with wonderful insights, it was a great ride with all of you.
I, like all the others too feel that this drama's strength lies in the main couple, and boy, do they deliver. If not, I think the thriller aspect could easily become laughable and silly, all because they weren't well thought out, they were frustratingly easy to avoid etc etc . But thanks to these two, it became an immensely enjoyable experience, that I feel sometimes I'm listening in on a real life couple during their conversation. I cried when they cried, grinned like an idiot in the happy scenes, whooped in joy when Ma Rin knocked sense into SJ's head, and everything else.
And, for that it was perfect in all its imperfections. The last message about being present in the present kinda sealed the deal, and made me brush off all the inconsistencies and silly plot devices as whole. Tell the people you love of how you feel about them, be happy, today!

First of all, I can’t believe I was feeling nothing/empty(?) for a couple of hours after I watched the finale, and didn’t know how to write down my thoughts or even got idea what I should write, because I had a conflicted feeling. Part of me was glad it got a happy ending, but the other part of me felt the Show didn’t deliver well at some aspects which simply didn’t meet my expectation (after seeing the poor writing on the kidnapping part I predicted there’d be more plot holes in the finale).
However, reading people’s comments here and there (it's so sad reading everyone's goodbye comment ?) helped me to make up my mind. Especially when I saw this gif http://i.imgur.com/ZhQAeyp.gif (which OMG that chemistry and acting could burn the screen lol ...and yeah melt anyone’s heart) and other pictures of SJ-MR from previous episodes, I came to a realization that I loved this couple very much, to the point that I just wanted to give a pass to the jarring flaw although it did reduce my liking to this drama a little bit. The main characters (or it was LJH-SMA’s chemistry) got me hooked on this drama since the beginning. I really loved how SJ&MR’s journey was unfolded. It by far had the most unusual flow yet very intriguing storyline comparing to other romance dramas. Their characters’ growths were so interesting to watch. Their conversation often sounded light and boring(?) for some people, but actually it had so much depth and subtle messages for audience.
The finale didn’t really feel like it’s the end. Every couple including GS and Secretary Hwang got their own happy ending (except for DS and Mom), but the finale just showed the main characters doing their very mundane activity. There’s no overused stuff like walking down the aisle or long kiss to conclude the story (not that people would complain tho, I’m just pointing out the common happy-ending in dramaland), instead we saw our otp bickering and making up through the phone. It shows the consistency of this drama in repeating similar scenes (so the one take shot of SJ-MR walking in circle(?) and stopped at where they started in episode 3 was really a symbolism throughout the whole series).
TWY, like everyone has said, is not a perfect show but I loved almost every aspect of it (acting, directing) and I really enjoyed the ride which is surprising since I used to hate melancholic tone and slow pace. Also, the PD had a very brief cameo was a cherry on top because gosh I imagined the fun behind that scene must be interesting lol. I loved seeing the BTS clips that show much the casts’ enjoying the filming with the PD. I can see myself having the most fun by re-watching SJ and MR lovey dovey clips whenever I get bored cz they're my 1st favorite otp to date.

@wandergirl I saw one bts video and LJH indeed seemed like having fun on the set. At times I even felt like I'm watching LJH- Shin Mina on screen and not their characters heheh. Also he has been single for 6 years? That's long time already! He comes across as someone quite sharp though, so I hope he can find his special someone some day. But yeah my fingers crossed for this potential pairing, don't hate me guys lol.

About LJH. I really liked his acting in Signal, but I didn't know he would be this good in romance genre, so while waiting his new project I'll just watch his past works, ofc I'll exclude Fashion King although YAI is favorite actor.
I'm tryyyying my best to stop planting the idea in my head about shipping actors but it seems like I'm just falling harder(?) lol. The BTS is not helping ugh. Also I'm surprised with the number of Beanies who love the pairing and *ehem* wish them to be real, It felt like I was at different forum when I first read Beanies' fangirling posts about the two ?.

haha @hellobeautiful IKR? Currently all I'm hearing is LJH saying in his deep baritone voice lol, ' marin-ah', so swoon worthy! I think part of the reason they look like a pair which should happen on an emergency basis is also because they are same aged almost? Which is one of the important basis of communication imo, but I don't know how it's like with shin mina. Anyway sigh I would keep my expectation low and would just rejoice if they ever decide to date each other tehee.

Was really sad about the fact that the rating kept dropping, but this has been a drama that I followed through and through. I agree with you gummimochi that the chemistry between LJH and Shin min ah has been incredible, so their every day life felt precious, just because they sold it so perfectly. Also have to give it to the actors for giving their 100% even if the response from the viewers have been lukewarm. Also I don't think I have ever seen a kdrama where the romance has been the sole factor of the story moving, so just to get that much depth of emotions and the love between song ma rin and so joon fulfilled my quench for a romance drama for this year lol. At some point in the finale when so joon was walking forlornly on the foreign streets of 2022, I felt like I went back to the finale of goblin, where kim shin lost eun tak lol. So can't say enough how much relieved I was to see both song marin and so joon alive. Although the dad sacrificed his life, but considering the fact that he died on the future that we saw too, may be it makes sense that his whole life he was invested in saving his daughter's life. I would take it as a bittersweet ending, albeit we got to see the story ending on a somewhat positive note.
So is this re-watchable? I am surprised myself but my verdict is very much affirmative. I was expecting a sad ending but the drama surpassed my expectation. So just for that, I think I would go back to the drama five years from now, totally.

Ma-rin and So-joon's relationship was best when it focused on the everyday-ness of life. What is everyday about time travel?
Perhaps the time travel element is what made the present storyline work? Who knows?
Of course, I wouldn't mind a pet robo-vacuum cleaning up all my floors and playing catch with me too.
The ending left me with this: No matter what extraordinary circumstances occur, no matter what fantastical elements may insert themselves, the mundaneness of reality will always prevail and human relationships will always follow the ebb and flow of emotional tides

May be what matters is that even if someone has privilege of knowing the future we would always take the same decision each and every time, so what matters is the time we have in our hand right now? I think that's what the story tries to reflect on as a whole concept. Like how so joon was desperate about knowing/ changing the future so he and song marin can live together happily, but while doing so he missed the crucial point that he's letting go the time they have now, at present.
That's why I kind of loved how song marin said, you have to choose, me or that lady? Sometimes when we are stressed we need to have some one who would be our voice of rational, and song marin did that for him at that point.
Also I agree with you that their daily mundane life activities dominated the sweetness of their relationship, but 'time travelling' did serve an extra edge to that. Like how so joon brought that ramen for her from the future which she loved, or how he brought flower for her from each season, which was so endearing, and showed honest care for song ma rin, which so joon doesn't express that much. I guess somehow the time travelling brings song ma rin close to so joon, or rather it's the turning factor in both of their life , since because of this they got to meet, and become's each other's life support.

You know, while this was indeed the weakness of this drama, I'm starting to think that it (ironically) served a purpose.
It did irk me, how ambiguous the logic was. But the lack of concrete rules to the time-travelling made me more engaged with the storyline. I kid you not, when I say that I was coming up with theories right and left throughout the entirety of the show. Which was actually fun AND incredibly satisfying when some turned out to be true.
Maybe if we'd had clear rules, a lot of things would've been predictable and made it a little boring? (Not trying to excuse the plot-holes)
Also, time-travelling IS a mind-boggling idea...so maybe it doesn't have any rules? Were it to exist, I suppose there are a lot of things we couldn't explain about it.

Sorry I missed out on several episodes but why did Ma rin's dad choose to die when 3 of them were destined to be dead? Does that mean that only 1 needed to die to change the situation?
Plus, I think sejoon should have lost his powers to time travel, maybe due to the sacrifice Ma rin dad made. It feels like they didn't learn their lesson of time traveling.
And how come Ma rin's dad was at the station also? Was he stalking Ma-rin?
How did he become Ma-rin's dad? I totally missed out On that part and when did sejoon disappeared?
Hope someone can enlighten me! I stopped watching halfway..... but still would like to know the missing pieces!

Excellent cast and acting, the story line was slow from beginning to end. With that said, I enjoyed this drama and I'm going to re-watch it again. Wish the views were higher but hopefully their next dramas will make up for this one's 1%.

I never praised the detail this much before, but dang that ring added more meaning and the feels to my watching experience. Especially when I watched the first episodes where SJ was still 'manipulating' MR, I had so many thoughts about the ring; from SJ just fooled MR to SJ really fall hard to her but he didn't realize it which was already a fluttering moment for this weak hearted fangurl lol.

Wah, thanks for the recap. I am definitely agree with you gummimochi. For viewer who watching this drama from the beginning till the end, I really feel relief and so much happy for this kind of ending. You know what the most scene I love is that the last scene..haha..no matter how hard a situation they both had made through (separate for two years), at last they still keep arguing.
I am pretty sure that it will be happy ending. It because the title is 'Tommorow with you'. But how they got it was a mystery. So Joon through so much pain to make it happen till the end he surrender with their faith. I am falling in love with So Joon and Ma Rin characters.
This kdrama is awesome. They full of adlibs and even the director act together with them (^^). They really did as a pro. No matter how people give review with it, some says it's pace really slow, or some says the nobelty idiot for the characters, I keep appreciate this drama because it shows us what the act should be. Big applause!

Was anyone bothered by the final time paradox? So Joon appeared in Nov 2019 and was nursed in his own home until 2022 - something that we can assume as having happened, in order to explain his present-day absence of more than 2 years. But after he jumps back to the "true present day" and survives past "doomsday", when fast-tracked to present day 2022, he and Marin is still living in the same house...unless he changed "history" again. And past-So-Joon is convalescing in another location. Which is easy to arrange, a-la-So-Joon-the-Realtor. But imagine when past-So-Joon wakes up - present-So-Joon can't be there or he will disappear. Would Marin be there? Ki Doong would probably be there, but he would probably be a lot less emotional. Imagine him playing some game on his (transparent) phone saying,"You're awake at last. Shall I spoil how it pans out for you like what you used to do for me? Ok, it takes a lot of effort but you manage to go back to doomsday. Someone still dies though." Heck, he could even not bother to visit until the very time and day he knows past-So-Joon would wake up.

I'm abit dissapoint though. I want them both died and met their fate, well I'm a saddistic woman.
Also... I would like the show spend more time to show us So Joon struggle during those two years, i want the writers show him suffer (including to Ma Rin), and facing the consequences, Just like we had been witnessing several people suffer because both Doo Shik and So Joon action. They resolved the KYJ case is just like that, which I think one of the most interesting part about the show. I really hope the writers is more objective towards her own character. KYJ is right, he is lazy boy who have got everything based on his acknowledge from the future. KYJ is one of the people who is a victim of time travelling. It's hard to get acknowledge from people and goes to the top no matter how hard he try because there is someone who know everything without doing research, analysis and such. KYJ is someone SJ has created and make him a monster.
That's why I'm abit dissapoint the writers keep SJ time travelling ability at the end, because he is still has capability to steal who is supposed to be people's fortune. This is plot holes I can't get behind. It seems the show abit glorify time travelling ability.
I really think one of the most interesting point about the show how they potray the future is not something you can change easily. Especially when It's involved alot of other party and alot of possibility it will be turn out on different result. It's something the writers do well. All character action when facing those bad event is make sense to me event if at times people think they act stupid LOL. You couldn't control everything and act like a God. Fate is more complicate than that. Because you only know about a little puzzle and clue of those circumstance. This is something I feel the show does differently compare to other time travelling.

thank you for recapping this drama, gummimochi. i really really love this drama. i'm sure this drama has its flaws but there are many things that i can treasure. best OTP, so far. best chemistry between LJH and SMA. i know SMA always gave good chemistry with her pairs. but i think,.the best chemistry is in TWY. LJH and SMA'acts were so natural. they could bring the real marriage couple, the lovey dovey scenes, and their emotions. happiness, sadness, loneliness and longing each other..they perfectly portrait on these scenes..
besides the plot holes and many unanswerable things in this drama. i'm stil so into with this drama because of great actors,great cinematography and beautiful soundtracks..
in South Korea, maybe this drama was abandoned. but for me, TWY is one of my fave drama in 2017. surely i will miss this drama and the actors.
can't wait for another drama of LJH and SMA.

i dont know how many comments already states that this is not a perfect drama and sure has flaws
and I agree with that
but that can not stop me from watching this beautiful drama
this drama is not perfect but this is one of rare dramas that is worthy of rewatch many times !

I thought I read an article in Dramabeans about Namgoong Min making cameo appearance for Tomorrow with You around ep 8 or so. Was I imagining? I watched the whole episodes and couldn't find him. I scrolled down the post with various tags and still can't find it. Now I am frustrated. Really... I remember clearly about the article and now I can't find it. Did someone travel to the past and changed something? Am I the only one who remember about the article? Really... I am going crazy. ㅠㅠ

For me, the story functioned best as a character-driven romance. The realistic depiction of the OTP's evolving relationship was nuanced and believable (once I got past Ma-rin's excessive drinking and aegyo overload early in the show). As someone who's been married for 25+ years, their private moments, from pillow talk to the bickering of domestic "bliss," felt true to life. Hats off to Shin Min-ah and Lee Je-hoon for bringing the couple to life in all their shades of emotional color. So-joon's relationships with old buddies Ki-doong and Se-young, and Ma-rin's friendship with So-ri, likewise ring true to life.
As a science fiction fan, the time travel rules (or, more accurately, the absence of clearly established ones) have niggled at me. How is it that two out of three survivors of the subway explosion -- both male -- somehow became able to travel to the future and back, whereas the third did not? I was avidly immersed in sussing out in the recaps the metaphysical mechanics of Park Do-kyung's premonitions of his impending death while OH HAE-YOUNG AGAIN aired. TWY has been a horse of a different color. I've wanted to engage the time travel, but it eludes me. Maybe I've just been watching too many shows simultaneously.
The OST is top notch and evocative. I love the instrumental piano music. At times my ear has caught lovely background music, too. A case in point is Gun-sook's scene with Secretary Hwang at the coffee shop after their paths cross at Ma-rin's exhibition opening. "The Water is Wide" is like an arrow in the heart, and really makes me feel for So-joon's desperation to return across the gulf of time to Ma-rin, and her repeated forays to search him out. The twist is that, instead of love growing cold, in So-joon's case, he comes to truly love Ma-rin over time -- whereas she, like the singer, has been bonkers over him from early on.

Check out the late Eva Cassidy's stunning live solo version while you're at it. For me, the longing in her angelic voice is more emotionally charged.
After letting that song sink in, it occurs to me that "earnest longing" is what finally enables So-joon to succeed in returning to Ma-rin before the fated accident -- a la Dr. Eun-soo's ceaseless attempts to rejoin Choi Young in FAITH. Ma-rin's searching for So-joon in her own time acts as a homing beacon. I can't come up with a better explanation.
I'm forever going to wonder whose camera click caused Ma-rin to accost So-joon on the subway. It certainly wasn't Doo-shik's. I guess it will just have to remain a mystery. ;-)

One more thing: In a sense, TWY has been an extended PSA for Habitat for Humanity, which in my book is a wonderful alternative to the usual PPL overload. ;-)

GAH, IT'S OVER
Welp, this show definitely had it's glaring flaws but my god, was it beautiful.
Forget time-travelling, this show was all about a couple coming through with a new appreciation for each other. It's crazy to think that at the very beginning of this show, SJ only got with Marin to save his life and Marin only thought of SJ as some stalker. I can't say much about the plot but the development of the characters, the tone, the directing and the music was beyond beautiful. I think this couple has become my #1 otp and that's saying a lot. There was something really raw in their relationship that made their trifles, problems seem so real.

No matter what (plotholes and the whole unexplained mystery surrounding the time travel) I really loved this drama!
It felt very real despite the supernatural elements, because it was first and foremost a drama about a couple striving to be together.
And that's what made it stood out to me: the chemistry between LJH and SMA...they really were the most comfortable and natural drama couple I've ever seen! And thanks to them I won't forget Soo Joon and Ma Rin as characters any time soon.
Watching this also made me realize that if I feel connected to the main couple I can easily manage to brush off a few plotholes, but if I don't care for the couple then not even a perfect plot will pull me in...

What a bittersweet ending~~ (i feel sad for Ahjussi)
I just really love the vibe in this drama with every editing details and music background. And the OST! ♡
The romance in TWY is such a winning factor in this drama <33333 every conversation feels so real and relatable and I'm glad to learn a lot from So Joon and Ma Rin love journey that right now is where we belong to and in the end..Love Wins..

In my opinion, the reason people love this drama is the same one for people to dislike it. It is character driven instead of plot driven. The focus is on So Joon and Ma Rin. The time travel element is only add-on to make it more interesting.

Honestly yep..I just focusing on Lee Je Hoon and Shin Mi Na acting, no matter what the plot it was. It's just like a song, some peoples like ballad while other like pop or RnB.

Fully satisfied with the final episode!!! ❤ BUT I have been replaying my favorite scenes for days including the behind-the-scenes footage just so I can move on and get more of Shin Min-Ah and Le Je-Hoon's chemistry.
I had my ups and downs with this drama. I mostly love it because of its melancholic tone and its realistic take on marriage and relationships. We took awhile to get to the stage where So-Joon has decided to live the present but I guess that's how it is in real life. We usually realize we're screwing things over when we are almost left with nothing.
I see this as a marriage / romance drama rather than a fantasy drama. And I think this is the reason it did not do so well in Korea because people's expectations were something similar like W but gave us slice-of-life romance like the movie "About Time". I dunno, maybe, the people just don't like how slow moving the plot is or whatever. I still don't get how underrated this is. Anyway, I think what matters most is I enjoyed it and am glad that some Beanies enjoyed it too! If this drama is a guy, he is just exactly my type. ??

I think the ending is cheating,
if this go by the rules, they both can die and I don't think that make the story less good (well I am not particularly love the drama to death as others, it really flaws even the acting) but them dying happily is fit for the overall theme
you can't change the future but you can be more understanding and enjoy the stay on your time cause that's the only think you can do,
short but meaningful life than long drawn out life, enjoying what you have now and accept he fate that is out from your hand,
I feel really disappointed, people say that the are happy but story-wise, I feel like I wasted my time and I want to say this rn so I can move on
so much wasting potential and the rating is well deserved

Inspired by those of you making your first ever comment on drambeans, I'm also taking the plunge with mine. Hello all!
Please (jebal!) can someone explain something that has been bugging me about stabbed So-joon time travelling past his earlier "last day" to Nov 30 2019.
We know that So-joon cannot time travel to a date in which future So-joon isn't alive, so where is the future So-joon during the time past So-joon was in a coma until the day he time travelled back from running through the tunnel? Dates of November 30 2019 to Mar 2022 specifically.
What am I missing here? Help, 제발!

I feel ya, GirlfromMars. I'm guessing he was out of commission during those dates, so there is no Future So Joon so to speak as he was stuck and cannot time travel? Just an answer from the top of my head, most of the time traveling stuff in TWY is confusing.
Tbh, like most of the beanies, I've given up trying to understand he technicalities of time travel as it's one of TWY's weaker points. I've decided to get over the plot holes and just appreciate the love story between So Joon and Ma Rin, otherwise I'd be going crazy over theories. ?

Maybe the time travelling rule had changed after past-SJ disappeared (and later he was found in the tunnel) because he met the future him and couldn't get into the subway in time? Thus, when past-SJ was in coma from 2019 to 2022, the future-SJ was disappeared too since he initially should be dead on 25th March the accident day. There's probably something happened with the tunnel (if it accounts as the device for SJ to time travel, like the talisman in QIHM), which made it possible for past SJ to travel to 2019. BUT I'm still not sure lmao. (I remember there's always part in fantasy drama that left unclear, although this one is the most confusing)
Tbh before I read your question, I initially thought future SJ was dead because of Kim Young Jin :|
