Name That Drama: Time traveling and chivalrous acts

As always, feel free to email us your questions and requests for future Name That Drama installments.

  1. A repeat customer

    Hello Beanies,

I totally love this section. This is my second Name That Drama request. Thank you for helping me out with the first one.

The drama is a crime/mystery drama. I only remember this scene: There are serial shootings in public areas, the first being in a park. At the end it’s revealed that the killers are not serial killers but are taking revenge on their boss for firing them. In order to cover up the murder, the killers decide to practice on other people and cover it as a serial killer scene to divert the police. One of the killers was a trained shooter.

Please help me with this. I don’t remember at actors at all but just this case, since this episode is inspired from Criminal Minds, the American TV show.

  2. Turn around and name this movie

I can’t seem to remember the name of a Korean movie I saw a few years back. I don’t exactly remember the plot, but in the present, she is working and runs into an old friend from high school. Somehow, she gets transported back into the past to when she was in high school, but she is still her present age. And I think she helps a guy become more confident or something like that. But I know for sure that he dances to Deux’s “Turn Around and Look at Me” near the end of the movie. If anyone knows the name of this movie, I’d really appreciate it!

  3. Beanies can always help

    Hello,

I need help finding a certain Japanese drama.

I’ve always remembered this one scene because I thought the actress was the prettiest crier I’ve ever seen. She received a distressing call while walking home and was so distraught she dropped her bag of strawberries on the ground… or was it a cake with strawberries? She was on a footbridge of some kind and she immediately dropped to her knees sobbing with her hand over her mouth… the strawberries littered all over the place and cars going back and forth beneath. I think someone broke up with her or cheated.

I want to say Takuya Kimura was in it, but I’m not sure. I think it’s a drama from the late ’90s maybe early 2000’s.

Not sure if you guys can help, but thanks for trying.

  4. Okay, but if we name it for you this time, don’t forget it!

So the ending of the last episode has the daughter of the main couple saying something like, “And that was how I was born!” because her parents had just made up and were kissing or something, super cute.

The daughter had cancer, so a lot of it was the parents (who weren’t married) struggling through dealing with the illness and their really broken relationship.

I’ve been trying to find this drama on and off since middle school (so like, eight or so years now). I think I found it once and promptly forgot before I could watch it again.

  5. Two cancers in a row? Oh right, dramaland

My friend was telling me about a drama she saw several years ago, where the child was born by accident because the parents had a drunken night. They were strangers at first, but they do end up falling in love because they come to find out that the child has cancer.

I don’t know how I could have missed the name of the drama. It sounded really heart wrenching when she explained it and I really want to see it! I hope you guys can help me with this vague explanation!

  6. And they say chivalry is dead

Years ago, when I first discovered Korean television dramas, I watched one where the aunt/sister(?) of the lead was in an elevator with the uncle/relative of the other lead. The uncle/relative was a little eccentric and the aunt/sister didn’t care for him.

But while they were in the elevator, she farted and he (in one of the most chivalrous acts I’ve ever witnessed) pretended that he had passed gas and begged her pardon. She was so impressed that later in the series they began to date. Please, does anyone recognize this scene?

Thanks for playing, everyone — till next time!

Number five sounds like Wonderful Life with Eugene. Two people have an accident and she becomes pregnant. They grow closer as they find out the daughter has leukemia.

Yup, I'm pretty sure 4 and 5 are both Wonderful Life. I can't really forget that drama as it's the first K-drama I watched in its entirety. It always gives me nostalgic feelings.

#4 and # seems like the same drama. Pretty sure it's Wonderful Life starring Eugene and Kim Jae Won. They had a one night stand in Singapore. Eugene gets pregnant and the daughter ends up having cancer.

#6 is My Girlfriend is a Gumiho. Sung Dong Il was hilarious.

No.6 is from My Girlfriend is a Gumiho! The lady is the aunt of the male lead (Lee Seung Gi 's character) whereas the man (played by Sung Dong IL) is the the father of the male lead 's friend and also an action director (directs a movie the male lead acts in). Drama beans describes him as Chow Yun Fat Lite. :P

Their relationship was adorably corny and filled with gags on tropes. Definitely one of the highlights of the show. :P

But #4 and #5 seem like they are both from the same K-drama, named "Wonderful Life", starring Eugene Kim, Kim Jae Won, Lee Ji Hoon (b. 1979), and Han Eun Jung

#2 is Project Makeover. Watch with caution, it was called the worst Korean movie of 2007 by netizens, although that is a bit harsh.

#3 could be Pride with Kimura Takuya. When I was reading the details, this came to my mind even though I don't quiet remember if it was strawberry that spills over. But the person mentioned kimura takuya so I think it is Pride. I watched it ages ago and I loved it. Also love how they used songs by Queen throughout the series.

It's not Pride, there's no scene like the one they mentioned with the strawberries and all that.

I just looked for 2 soyusmultfilm cartoons the same way people search dramas here, posted on a FB group named Nostalgia Museum and got an answer for both in 41 seconds. I had looked for them like forever. and they were cartoons only shown 1-2 times here.

I wonder if there is a similar group on FB for old korean dramas...

#4 & #5 are indeed the same drama Wonderful Life starring Eugene. It's also where I first met cutie Jung Da Bin! Gosh, whenever that little munchkin cried, it wretched my heart and made me cry a waterfall. She was so talented already at that age that I have been hoping forever to see her take on a lead role. Dramaland, it's about time.

Jung Da Bin would have been a great lead of her own show if she didn't commit suicide a decade ago.

Jung Da Bin committed suicide a decade ago? Was there another Jung Da Bin? Because the one I know had just starred in FiP as the younger version of Ok Nyeo.

Oh, no, that's a different Jung Da-bin! The Jung Da-bin you're talking about was in Attic Cat and that one drama with Yoon Kye-sang... she committed suicide in 2007 I think. The OTHER Jung Da-bin (that realiti mentioned) was born in 2000 and started as a child actor. She played Eugene's daughter in Wonderful Life &is currently in Rebel.

I was shocked to hear that she committed suicide and decided to do a quick online search and found that there are 2 actresses with the almost the same name (slightly different spelling)

The one in Wonderful Life - Jung Da Bin was born in 2000 whereas the Jeong Da Bin who committed suicide was born in 1980.
