Doctors writer returns with new drama Temperature of Love
by tineybeanie
The writer of last year’s hit summer drama Doctors, Ha Myung-hee, is rewriting her novel Nice Soup Does Not Answer the Phone into a drama titled Temperature of Love. The source material depicts the complicated love lives of today’s young people who battle with loneliness and other emotional scars, but writer Ha has revealed her intentions to put a brighter rom-com spin on the drama adaptation.
The setup reminds me of This Week My Wife Will Have an Affair because it all starts with an Internet forum. A soon-to-be-married individual joins an online cooking forum, and on the first night, enjoys an interesting conversation that lasts throughout the night. So enthralled with this new experience, that person gets another friend to join as well, and they both get to know a man who goes by the handle “Nice Soup.” The original book explores how relationships develop in this Internet era where misunderstandings and prejudice abound because of screen-only-based communication.
Writer Ha was awarded the 2016 Grand Award for producing meaningful content by Korea’s Cultural Tourism Department. From what I’ve seen of her projects (aside from Doctors, she’s also written High Society, A Warm Word, and Can We Get Married?), I usually really enjoy the setups that often make a point of taking an ordinary situation and looking at it from a refreshingly different angle. And I always check out her projects because I appreciate that her casts tend to include underrated talents (Lee Sang-woo, Jung So-min, Han Groo) who shine among the big-name stars and make me look forward to more from them.
Since casting and a drama script for Temperature of Love have yet to be finalized, it probably won’t be broadcast until this fall.

My big issue with Doctors was more about the length of the drama. It was a 16 episode drama given 20 episodes and it just kind of flickered out for me though I did finish it.

Well, Doctors was a mess, High Society was a bummer...
and her previous works are just so-so - One Warm Word and Can we get married.
Let's see, but I hope she improves. Because everything sounded interesting, but the execution failed hard.

Her idea always was interesting but mostly fail on the part of execution. Both High Society and Doctors were high rated (HS got two digits in their rating too, if I am nos mistaken).
I'll see if the casts are interesting maybe I will watch.

The writer has interesting ideas, but they don’t translate often very well on screen. She needs really good actors to keep the audience interested and a great PD too. Doctors casting was on point. I don’t agree that Doctors was a mess, bit draggy like every other k-drama but not a mess. Fewer episodes would have sufficed and the story would have become more solid.
Now I’m bit afraid for Lee Jong-Suk’s new drama because it has the same PD and Doctors was this PD's first main project and I read that he had to consult a lot with Kim Rae Won and Park Shin Hye on the set. I have no idea how he’s going to work with LJS and Suzy, hope PHR can cover the flaws up...

High Society was abound with complex characters and I don't think she was able to fully flesh them out. But it wasn't as terrible ( at the time of watching) as it sounds, plus it had a good OST, Summer Days In Bloom, lovely song and awesome Elevator Kiss.

Can we get married is freaking good with Kim Yoon Chul as a PD. I think she is excel at slice of life drama. Doctor is more like a slice of life drama with environment medical background

Yeah, after reading that there's a character named "Nice Soup," though. I thought it was weird at first, but now it makes sense. It's definitely the kind of quirky title I like. I think she should keep it for the drama version because I think it matches with the goal of her wanting to put a "brighter rom-com spin on the drama adaptation."

I enjoyed it too! I think most people who liked Doctors acknowledge the weaknesses of the writing and plot, but were still able to appreciate the good things in it that intrigued them in the first place.
Personally, I loved the story, where a girl with a rough start in life meets good people and is able to become successful person with hard work and determination. Despite having dealt with bad cards half of her life, she is still able to become happy. Not to forget that her significant other isn’t your typical rude jerk male lead, but someone who inspired her, who loved, cared and supported her in spite of her cynical and prickly personality.
I think many people who mindlessly put this drama down forgot that this drama was a growth story of that girl and couldn’t see it past this dramas faults. I do admit that those who were lured by the first 6 episodes would find the development of Doctors a bit boring, but I’m on the opposite. I loved the emotional growth of all the characters, especially Hye Jung and Seo Woo.

Her dramas are flop. The only reason why Doctors was a hit is because it is headlined by Park Shinhye and Kim Raewon.

KRW shines the most with melo, heavy , thriller drama drama like Punch. But he always did romance drama I believe. I hope KRW will do cable next. OCN thriller will be awesome choice. I just dont like him in romance drama, not only Doctors.

UF and ML had star casts and failed in ratings heck doctors had more ratings than LOTBS which had LMH and JJH.. both are big names.Doctors was a good drama and i watched it for its story not its main cast i didn't even know PRW to begin with.

Heh.. I watched Doctors and LOBS and strangely I was able to enjoy Doctors more. I guess I much rather prefer a more realistic story of a girl who is able to become successful and contended with life rather than a love story of a mermaid and a con-artist...
I definitely recommend you some KRW dramas, Punch by far is the best one, both story and acting wise. Close second is Doctors and A Thousand Day Promise (this one is a very heavy melo, beware!)

Her dramas do need actors with acting skills to boot to make her stories work. That I agree with.
High society was terrible because of Sung Joon (no hate, he’s not just suited for dramas like this) and UEE wasn’t at her best either. Park Hyung Sik was the best among the main cast and this was the best of Im Ji Yeon (no hate here, but her acting doesn’t evoke any emotions, at least in me).

I really disliked Doctors and its writing was completely abysmal imo. High Society was so mediocre. I got half way through both and couldn't take it anymore.
I did like Can We Get Married and One Warm Word was flawed but interesting so I guess she's an uneven writer for me? This sounds like an compelling premise but it's probably going to depend on the cast to pull it off and enhance the material. CWGM had a strong ensemble cast but I personally thought High Society and Doctors were miscast and it dragged the shows down even more.

The most interesting bits were 'Temperature of Love' and 'Nice Soup' and both can serve as eye catching and memorable drama titles. If based on Doctors its a pass for me. The whole drama i was only interested in spunky kickas*s Shin Hye and jisoo cameo. Once her spunk dies down the drama was slow n d episodes felt filler-ish. Not sure what her previous work is.
If sloce of lofe plus comedic hope its more Marriage Not Dating feel..
Im all in for casting underrated talents..

Ugh why can't the show just be "lives of today’s young people who battle with loneliness and other emotional scars". The romance part isn't necessary at all. Just having a show depicting what young people actually go through on a daily basis is more than enough. I feel like the romance won't add much to the show but give off the feeling of "someone will love me if im broken and they'll fix me"

The only drama mentioned I haven't seen is A Warm Word. I adore all the other ones so I'll add it to the watchlist.
Gotta prepare for this drama!
Can I just mention Kwak Jung Wook should be out of the army soon-ish?
Since she's worked with almost half of the White Christmas boys already.

Doctors for me was pretty solid in the hs days, but they skipped into meaningless bs when she was adult. By the end I literally just skipped through most of the otp and meaningless revenge plots. Adorable puppy doctor with head tumor was ACE though.

I can't believe the writer of Can We Get Married also wrote High Society( granted, I enjoyed the latter a lot when i watched it. I Was Kdrama newbee, don't blame me).
Can We Get Married explored relationship dynamics, fustrating characters and had one of the best and honest potrayals of a couple going through divorce!
I was so exasperated watching it, pulled my hair more than a few times, it was an exercise in patience. But in the end, everything cane full circle and I was left with a feeling of warmth and satisfaction. So glad I watched. I prefer Sung Joon in those kinds oe roles. He should keep off polished elitism(for now).
Isn't Temperature Of Love a movie? With Ha Ji Won?

I agree with the person who said she may be better suited for slice-of-life dramas. I've seen only High Society and CWGM and I heard about Doctors where during its run, someone said to watch it s a slice-of-life drama and you won't have any expectations of thrills and stakes( I didn't watch so not sure).
I think this writer doesn't do well with high concept, all-star, trendy dramas. Look at High Society, although I enjoyed watching it at the time, I now recognize its failings. On the other hand, with CWGM, it was low key, on cable, no star actors apart from veteran actress who played the nagging mother( the poor one, both mothers were petty and nagging lol) I don't think there was high ratings, so there wasn't pressure to cater to the whims and expectation of the audience. I believe the writer was able to patiently tell the stories she wanted to tell and fully flesh out the characters so that there were no villains and heroes but people who were wrong for each other making bad decisions that hurt them and their loved ones. For Doctors, it had high ratings, star cast and pressure and I heard that it fizzled out so.....
Maybe writer-nim should stick to lowkey works.

I will give this drama a chance, since it might turn out good. This writer doesn't have a good track record. I am not familiar with "A Warm Word' and "Can We Get Married', but I did skim through "High Society" (which was a mediocre drama that I skimmed through for the secondary couple). I couldn't get past the first two eps of "Doctors". However despite my iffiness with the writer, I'm willing to give this chance because of "Tomorrow with You". How you ask? The writer of "Tomorrow with You" didn't have impressive dramas in her resume, and look how well TWY is turning out to be.
So I will give this new drama a chance, because the premise sounds like it could be good if done right. I also hope they keep the title "Nice Soup Doesn't Answer the Phone" because it is a lot more unique and quirky than "Temperature of Love", but anyways TOL is not a bad title either.

I Stated watching doctors because of the cast, but I dropped it at episode 8, I gave it a good chance but the story was so boring and the 2 leads didn't have chemistry, maybe because the former teacher student relationship or they looking very different in age. Just a lot of reasons I dropped doctors, main reason was the awful writing. Will try to avoid this scriptwriter if possible.
