Tomorrow With You: Episode 3
by gummimochi
We’re back to check in on our diligent hero and the woman who is inexplicably part of his future. For someone who says he isn’t interested in her, he seems to be fixating on her quite a lot, traveling constantly to the future to learn what he can, though these tidbits of information only reveal a small portion of their much bigger, bleaker, and puzzling future. The future can only teach him so much, but thankfully the more interesting part is what our time traveler does with those discoveries in the present.
EPISODE 3 RECAP
Upon learning that Ma-rin was the woman who inadvertently saved his life seven years ago, So-joon returns to the present to ask her about it in person. She isn’t interested in anything he has to say, but So-joon is determined to know—is she a survivor of the subway car explosion at Namyeong Station?
She wonders how he could’ve possibly known that since she’d divulged that information only a few hours ago, and the story hasn’t been published yet. He considers that a yes and keeps questioning her: “Did you originally intend on getting off at Namyeong or was it a coincidence?”
So-joon demands to know, so she barks back, “It was a coincidence!” She doesn’t understand why that’s so important to him when he won’t reveal how he found out about her past, but now that So-joon knows where their connection began, he decides that they’ll have to meet again a few more times.
While Ma-rin tries to keep So-joon off her mind, So-joon makes the connection that the fatal car accident in 2019 took place precisely ten years after they survived the subway car explosion in 2009, right down to the minute. He beats himself up for not figuring that out earlier, and then it occurs to him that his future self must’ve known everything and didn’t tell him about it.
So he travels to March 2019 to confront his future self at home, where they speak over the intercom: “You must’ve known it all! Why didn’t you say anything?” Future So-joon replies, “What would’ve changed if you had known?”
So-joon argues that his future self should’ve left a clue behind for him and refuses to believe that nothing can be done to change the future. He wonders if his future self is keeping something from him, but Future So-joon gravely tells him that his efforts are futile and ends the conversation to sit dejectedly in his dark and messy home.
Ma-rin’s interview is published by her next photo shoot, where the enthusiastic fashion designer asks if Ma-rin can’t miraculously get So-joon to stand in as a model again. But before she can give a proper excuse, the police arrive with a search and seizure warrant.
Nearly everyone associated with the online shopping mall brand is then questioned at the police station for trademark infringement—that is, everyone except for So-joon, who sends his lawyer and his best friend Ki-doong in his stead. Although Ma-rin admits to her wrongdoings, she explains that she was unaware that she’d committed a crime because she was adhering to the designer’s desired concepts.
Her camera is returned to her, but she crouches when she sees reporters trickle in. In her attempt to slip away, she accidentally bumps into Ki-doong and drops her camera. Before she can properly assess it for damage, she pulls Ki-doong aside and asks him not to tell So-joon that she was here.
So-joon shows up at fellow time traveler Doo-shik’s door unannounced, but when he’s barred entry, they crouch near the trash bins, where Doo-shik is filled in on the latest news. So-joon cries that this recent revelation about Ma-rin is giving him a headache, to which Doo-shik jumps to tell him that he can relate as a time traveler with his own existential crises and string of health issues because of all the mental stress.
Doo-shik whines that it’s no picnic being a time traveler, but he does offer up a possible solution: “Have a baby.” At So-joon’s wide-eyed response, Doo-shik explains that So-joon and Ma-rin’s deaths in 2019 could be Death belatedly coming after them for surviving the Namyeong Station incident, and they both know that the only things that are definitely out of a time traveler’s control are when a person is born and when that person dies.
Doo-shik argues that he’s seen this method work once before: He knew a young lady who was fated to die in a car accident, and no matter what he did, her future didn’t change. So he set her up with a man she never dreamed of, and they eventually had a child—a life born unexpectedly.
He claims that the couple went on to live happily ever after, bearing more children and living long lives. So-joon is reluctant to believe such an elaborate lie, and Doo-shik explains, “It was my daughter.”
This case study is the reason why Doo-shik believes in this theory, and So-joon takes a moment before asking, “So you’re saying if I want to live, I need to marry Song Ma-rin and have a baby?” Doo-shik repeats, “Have a baby. That’s how you completely shatter your predetermined fate.”
Tugging at his arm, So-joon whines that Doo-shik can’t speak so carelessly about other people’s lives and gets up in frustration. Doo-shik calls out, “Why did you bother saving her then?” He adds with a chuckle, “I assumed you had some feelings for her.”
Ma-rin holes up in a bathroom stall in the police station, deathly afraid to face the reporters. While an officer hounds her to come out, she leaves anonymous comments on her own interview, asking the public to lose interest in her no matter what may happen in the future.
So-joon is still frustrated when he arrives home, where Ki-doong immediately divulges that he saw Ma-rin at the police station. Given the recent attention So-joon has gained from his modeling stint, Ki-doong admits that he can’t help but wonder what his friend has been up to lately. And So-joon leaves again.
He ends up at the police station, only to turn on his heels when he sees Ma-rin exit with her mother. When Mom makes a fuss about how the public will be in an uproar over Bap-soon’s latest antics, Ma-rin says no one will know or care if Mom can simply keep her mouth shut.
Ma-rin heads home alone, only to find So-joon waiting for her outside her house. He makes light of the trademark infringement charges, teasing that something seemed off when she asked him to model for her. But Ma-rin is too exhausted to argue with him and apologizes for the inconvenience.
He asks if they can reconcile, which initially catches her off guard. While she appreciates the gesture, she doesn’t understand why it’s necessary—he may have toyed with her and left her embarrassed, but there was nothing going on between them: “What were we?”
So-joon honestly admits that he doesn’t know either, and he’s racked his brains trying to figure it out, but he at least wanted to try and make peace with her because he felt so restless about the situation.
She uses his own words to reestablish their original arrangement of ignoring one another. She’s saying it now to remind him that this was how he regarded her. “I know there wasn’t anything going on between us, but did you really think I was feeling okay this whole time?”
Ma-rin cries over her damaged camera lens once she’s inside, while So-joon thinks to himself why he saved Ma-rin from that oncoming truck in the first place. He’d seen how that accident would put her in a wheelchair, and he felt bad that she would die an even more tragic death.
So-joon gets a distress call from his friend Se-young to retrieve her tipsy father, whom he finds trying to collect donations for the non-profit construction company from other restaurant patrons. So-joon ushers him out, and inside the car, Se-young’s father mentions how proud So-joon’s parents would’ve been of their son and his success if they were still alive.
Despite being told that they would’ve praised him, it’s evident that talking about his deceased parents is So-joon’s least favorite subject. He’s told that enough time has passed for him to move on from their deaths, but So-joon says he doesn’t feel at ease and likely won’t until his dying day. Additionally, he doesn’t want to move on either, so they drop the subject.
Although So-joon’s words keep Ma-rin up that night, she tells herself not to be swayed. She gets up to browse the internet for a new camera, but they’re too expensive. She visits a storefront display window the next day and tells the cameras that they’ll belong to her one day.
Ma-rin gets a call from frenemy Gun-sook just then, who pretends that she’s having the time of her life on her honeymoon in Hawaii. Gun-sook hangs up when Ma-rin asks her for some money, then complains to her new husband for canceling their honeymoon the minute they got married.
Her husband Director Kim tells her that these meetings he’s lined up will only help them secure a better future. He has a gift to mollify her — an unlimited credit card — and he can tell that she likes it. He adds that he’ll make sure people call her the CEO’s wife someday, and that puts a smile on her face.
Doo-shik’s suggestion of having a baby echoes in So-joon’s ears at home. He snaps out of it and heads to the kitchen for some water, only to do a spit-take when Bap-soon — Ma-rin as a child actress — appears next to him, repeating her catchphrase.
But the hallucinations don’t end there, as the future Ma-rin in a bathrobe approaches him with open arms. Thinking that he’s actually lost it, So-joon escapes into the courtyard to stew in frustration.
Ma-rin’s friend So-ri helps her out with a bit of cash, and So-ri wonders if “Realtor” is in love with Ma-rin because he’s come to see her twice already. But while he might be rich, Ma-rin believes that a crazy guy like him has no reason to like her.
So-ri thinks there’s nothing wrong with a guy being crazy as long as he’s rich, to which Ma-rin points out that she sounded like their spoiled friend Gun-sook just now. Having tasted fame and fortune at a young age, Ma-rin believes that people only need to live off their own earnings, and those who are solely focused on superficial and fleeting goals like that lead meaningless lives.
She steps outside when So-joon calls in an effort to ignore the phone, so So-ri sneaks the phone and answers to inform him where they are, adding that she’s excited to see him before quickly hanging up.
So-joon arrives at the piano academy in time to see Ma-rin being accosted by a group of children calling her “ajumma.” He laughs when she tells the children to call her “unni” or “noona” instead… but they stick to calling her “ajumma.”
He tries to press the thought of having a baby with Ma-rin out of his mind, but then a boy runs toward him calling out “Daddy!” so So-joon opens up his arms… and the child runs around him to hug his actual father. AHAHAHA.
Ma-rin has noticed him by now, but isn’t the least bit happy to see him, especially when she hears that So-ri invited him over. She instructs him to follow her, and So-ri realizes that So-joon is the CEO they saw at Gun-sook’s wedding.
Ma-rin and So-joon go out to eat, though she catches him staring at a family sitting at a nearby table. She wonders if his extreme mood swings and odd behavior can be explained by bipolar disorder, and he says they could go to the doctor together so she can get checked out too.
Her next theory is that he’s a rebelling chaebol heir, caught up in some power battle and struggling to keep his place on top, like so many chaebols do in the dramas. He plays that sympathy card, telling her that’s exactly what he’s going through. That spurs her to ask more questions, and just when she’s about to ask if he has a crazy family to boot, she backs away from that subject.
But So-joon says he’s fine talking about it and matter-of-factly states, “It’s just that ambition is stronger than blood.” When she asks if he’s been through the other drama tropes like his mom throwing a glass of water at an ex-girlfriend’s face, he feigns heartbreak and says he’d prefer not to talk about that. Lol.
He can hardly keep a straight face when she pities him, and she says it’s good that he’s trying to stay positive. She adds that he doesn’t seem as corrupt as other rich people commonly are, and then tells him to buy lunch because she’s no longer curious about him.
She get up to leave, and when So-joon chases after her, she offers him a word of encouragement. He says he isn’t finished talking and tugs at her bag strap, which then slides off of her shoulder and topples to the ground, spilling her portrait photos onto the sidewalk.
He bends down to help her pick them up, and Ma-rin tells him to pick up every single one because she doesn’t like the idea of her face roaming wild on the street. Seeing so many photos, he wonders if she’s job-hunting, then waits for an opportune moment to mention that he saw Ma-rin’s interview about surviving the subway crash.
He asks if she remembers the guy she got off the subway with, but Ma-rin says she doesn’t, and hopes that he’s faring well. So-joon says he probably is if he has any idea how lucky he was to survive, but Ma-rin says that’s easier said than done and hopes he doesn’t have survivor’s guilt.
While most people tend to think that surviving a major accident would be miraculous, they don’t understand the guilt that also comes with it, Ma-rin explains. She thinks it’d be nice if she and that mystery man had a chance to comfort one another, and when So-joon asks exactly what she’d say to him, she fires back that she plans on telling him in person.
She notices him staring at her photo and remembers to ask how he found out about her past even before the article came out. So-joon says one of his secretaries told him about her, pretending again to be a chaebol heir whose family does background checks, and Ma-rin looks around furtively to check if anyone is watching them.
He hands the stack of photos back to her, but then keeps one for himself. She tries to reach for it and they play keep-away with her photo for a minute before So-joon says he wants to keep it to look at her face, which he thinks is sort of cute. Aw.
So-joon meets up with his friends for drinks, though Se-young scolds the boys for being so engrossed with their phones. Ki-doong sets it aside so they can talk, and So-joon reads his friends’ faces as he slowly asks how they’d feel if he got married.
Se-young readily says she’d feel bad for the girl because So-joon only cares about himself. As he drinks, So-joon replies, “Don’t think that’s true.” But Se-young thinks they can talk once there’s an actual girl to consider in this picture. Plus, it’s not like he’ll die or anything if he doesn’t get married.
So-joon grows silent at that, then turns to Ki-doong to ask for the professional camera he’s bought for Ma-rin. He bolts out of there with the shopping bag in his arms, which makes Se-young wonder if he’s actually seeing someone.
Ma-rin stops by the subway crash street memorial like she does every night and apologizes to the victims for being praised on surviving the accident to this day.
Ma-rin finds the new camera tucked under a table outside her place, much to her shock. The sender nowhere in sight, she wonders if it’s a gift from heaven, then finds the note inside the bag, which says, “Present from the rebelling chaebol heir.”
At the office, So-joon is too busy doodling to worry about important business decisions. He gets a text from Ma-rin thanking him for the new camera, but wanting to return it because she considers it too burdensome. With a small smile, he replies back with the message to accept the gift.
He then decides that he’s done enough work today and grabs his things to leave, but not before assuring Ki-doong that he has been paying attention to his work.
Determined to return the camera, Ma-rin arrives at So-joon’s workplace and catches him just as he’s leaving. He tells her to keep it since he knows that her old camera lens broke, and jokes that she’d better get going because there are plenty of eyes and ears here; if she’s really unlucky, she might even run into his godawful mother.
Turns out he isn’t wrong about the prying eyes, as we see Director Kim look on from the entryway. Ma-rin takes those teasing threats at face value and declares that she isn’t the least bit scared. Throwing a bag in his car, she tells him to take back his gift and runs off. Perplexed, So-joon asks, “Why did she leave her own handbag behind?” Hahaha.
It takes a few seconds before Ma-rin realizes that she threw her purse instead of the camera bag, but it’s too late because So-joon zips away in his car. She hails a cab to follow him, and Director Kim wonders what his wife’s friend is doing here talking to his boss.
She follows him to his destination and continues chasing him on foot into Namyeong Station, wondering why he would forsake his car to take the subway. She climbs into the next subway car and tracks him down. So-joon adorably can’t stop smiling at the thought of her.
He turns his head to see Ma-rin approach him, but then their surroundings spur the puzzle pieces in her head to fall into place. She realizes that So-joon was the stranger she’d argued with seven years ago, and he stares back at her in wide-eyed surprise. Is she going to see him jump to the future?
Just then, the lights grow dim and Ma-rin turns away from him. The camera pans around… and when she looks back, So-joon is gone.
Gun-sook calls her husband’s right-hand man, Secretary Hwang, over to the house to fix her broken kitchen sink. This time she calls So-ri to brag about her pretend trip to Hawaii, though the latter asks why she’s calling everyone during her so-called honeymoon. Is what I’m sayin’.
She’s surprised to hear that Ma-rin is seeing someone, and when So-ri doesn’t reveal his occupation right away, she asks if the guy’s married. She laughs in disbelief when she hears that Ma-rin is dating that young and handsome CEO who was at her wedding. However, Secretary Hwang confirms that it’s true because he saw them together at the office.
Ma-rin sits at Seoul Station, wondering to herself why she didn’t recognize So-joon earlier: “It was you?” Meanwhile in the future, So-joon discovers that he’s traveled to March 25, 2019, the very day he and Ma-rin are meant to die together.
So-joon calls his future self and berates him for being on the road when they both know what will happen tonight. Future So-joon flatly tells him to return to the present since So-joon will be in danger if he stays too long in the future following his death.
Future So-joon doesn’t want to spend his last moments arguing with himself, and explains that he’s on his way to Namyeong Station for the last time. So-joon repeats, “Last?” and hollers that there’s no way he’ll become as lifeless and deadened as his future self in a few years’ time.
Future So-joon says nothing as he pulls up to a busy intersection. He sees Future Ma-rin waiting to cross on the other side of the street, and with tears in his eyes, he tells himself, “How about… you try to make things work with her?”
Just then, a car sounds its horn and a man in a hat bumps into Ma-rin, pushing her into oncoming traffic. Future So-joon looks away, unable to watch as the car slams into her. Other cars swerve to avoid her body, only to crash into one another in all directions.
Then a car rams into the pile-up, flies through the air and lands on top of Future So-joon’s car. Oh no.
So-joon runs to the scene of the accident and sees his future self being hauled away on a gurney. The news reports on a grand fireworks show, and So-joon rushes to Ma-rin’s side as she grabs his arm and ekes out: “I’m scared. Don’t leave.”
“You might not know this, but I saved you from being physically disabled,” he says. He tells her not to worry before the paramedics take her away, and vows, “I’ll… I’ll save you.”
Back in the present, Ma-rin musters up the courage to text So-joon and tells him that she remembers the night they first met in 2009. She asks him if he wants to meet up, and that she’ll be waiting for him in Namyeong Station.
We see So-joon hurry back to Seoul Station, as Ma-rin’s voice narrates the rest of her message: “I’m in a good mood. Just because… just because no matter who you are, I’m just happy that you’re alive.”
But in the future, So-joon arrives at the platform mere seconds after the doors close. Remembering Doo-shik’s warning that his future self will die at 9:15 PM this night, he checks the current time: 9:14 PM.
Seconds later, the time changes to 9:15 PM, and So-joon disappears into thin air. Ahhhh, no!
As Ma-rin happily waits for the subway to arrive, her voiceover continues, “I was always thankful that you were also alive. I’m so happy that I wasn’t the only survivor… and that we met each other again.”
COMMENTS
But the question is, when and where is So-joon now? Doo-shik claims not to know what might happen if the time traveling So-joon stuck around after his future self’s death, but I know that our hero can’t possibly be gone for long when we’ve only just started this series. Furthermore, we can safely assume that he lived another three years to 2019.
Speaking of, it’s only this episode where we learned that present-day So-joon and Future So-joon have kept in touch, both trying to find ways to avoid a supposed inevitable death. Seeing So-joon’s future self sound so deflated and exhausted is hard to swallow, especially since he suggests that he exhausted all of his known methods, but none of them changed the course of their future. And if our current story is on a causal loop, I wonder if Doo-shik has told Future So-joon about the idea of creating an unexpected life with Ma-rin, and if Future So-joon has acted upon it.
However, it is interesting that So-joon blames his future self for withholding information from him, even more than Doo-shik, especially since it seems like Doo-shik is keeping more secrets close to the vest. He definitely knows more than he’s letting on, and I have to question whether that story he told is really about his own daughter, or perhaps about Ma-rin herself. We also have to question his true identity, since So-joon always addresses him as “ajusshi,” and he’s been assigned as “Doo-shik” in these recaps because that’s the name written in the official character description. So far, So-joon is the only person we see Doo-shik actively interact with, which makes me even question his actual existence. Because if on the off chance Doo-shik isn’t real, then is our hero actually as odd and crazy as Ma-rin believes him to be?
I did appreciate that So-joon tried to make amends with Ma-rin, though it would’ve been better had he apologized for ignoring her instead of making light of a stressful situation. His heart might’ve been in the right place when he gave her that camera, but his approach—however amusing to him—was all wrong with his running joke that he hails from a chaebol family complete with tense family politics straight out of a drama. A part of me wishes that her joy to be reunited with a fellow survivor wouldn’t have outweighed her unease to be given such an expensive gift so quickly, but I can understand that she’d be eager to find the stranger who also survived after the constant years of public ridicule and survivor’s guilt that she’s endured.
Still, it’s sweet to see So-joon slowly falling for Ma-rin, who still tries to draw boundaries in their relationship. Budding love is always exciting to watch, and these two make my heart flutter, no matter what point in time they may meet.

I know right? It's my current kdrama fix. All the twists and turns are keeping me totally engaged and we're just a few episodes in. Hope they can keep the momentum!

The story's pacing is quite slow, but I still don't understand why the ratings have been steadily dropping with each episode. The acting, soundtrack, cinematography are all very nice. Hopefully once the plot picks up pace (since eps 1-4 are still introductory episodes) the ratings will pick up again.

It's a wonder how this show got low ratings. The acting is actually the best part of the drama. The leads have amazing chemistry together and they kinda suit each other.
But I guess the Koreans don't really like romcom?

I think it's mostly because the overall atmosphere of this drama is too quiet and calm for a romcom. While a Kdrama romcom usually has brighter, louder tone and color palette with tons of zippy dialogues. While this drama felt more contemplative and moody as a whole. Hopefully more people will watch this though, especially since it has a great combination of writing, directing, acting, and editing.

I agree, it's too calm (the kind of calm before a *melo* storm lol) I don't see it as a rom-com at all. I do think it'll be a little more popular internationally than in Korea though, but it may take some time?
But all I'm hoping for is that the drama won't disappoint, ratings aside...

I definitely think Ep 5 and onwards the ratings will go up because now the show is going into unknown, unpredictable territory. Ep 1-4 were already revealed in teasers and trailers so Ep 5 until the end is a complete mystery, and it might make people more curious and willing to watch. I don't know, I just hope the low ratings don't cut the planned episodes down. It's never happened to any of the shows I've watched, but the mere thought is painful.

So Joon makes my heart flutter like mad. He legitimately did everything I wanted him to do today. "Buy her a new camera!" He buys her a new camera. "Keep one of her pictures!" He keeps one of her pictures. How cute was he instinctively opening his arms at hearing "appa", then playing along with Ma Rin's wild chaebol theories? I about died when he softly smiled at her and asked if she was okay after waiting for her at her house (even though he swiftly chided her for trusting the designer). I rooted for Ma Rin when she rightfully threw his words back at him. After callously hurting her, why should she have to put up with him coming and going as he pleases?
When Ma Rin repeatedly asked him how he knew about the Namyeong Station accident, I wish So Joon left her with "think about it" because if she relived the explosion, surely she would have remembered him. In spite of that, I was overjoyed déjà vu finally triggered her memory on the subway but was disappointed she didn't see him disappear. A part of me hoped she would time travel with him. So it turned out Future So Joon and Ma Rin weren't actually together when they died. I expected her to be in his passenger seat. So Joon takes talking to himself to the next level.
It seems like beanies (fangirl sy, zia c., I don't give six flying dragons, TmrwTmrw) were right in that Doo Shik is Ma Rin's dad, and the reason he spoke in past tense "I saved my daughter" is because he's from the future. I find myself loving this drama more and more with each episode. A big thanks for the recap, gummimochi!

I'm beginning to suspect some of our beanies have time travelling methods that we're not aware of...My jaw DROPPED when I read the part in his recap, immediately thinking "But how could they know!?"
To be fair, there's a lot of methods - incense sticks, rain, mysterious monk's talisman, hormonal portals, moon eclipses (dangerous and risky methods! Stay away from cliffs and drowning pools my dear beanies!) the subway....
C'mon guys, spill! How're you doing it? Sharing is caring! ^_~

This whole show is actually based on the writer's misunderstanding. The producers told the writer, "the story is all about travelling through time via Subway" and the writer assumed "subway."

For me, Doo Shik vanishing from the car so Ma Rin doesn't see him after the umbrella gift was the clue.
And his desperation and planning has to be driven by something powerfull, like watching your child die over and over.
I LOVE the idea that he is not even real! "W"ish but cool.
Now in all seriousnes:
Yes Saner, we can TOTALLY time travel.
Its a complicate process that involves altars to the early Hong sisters, background music from 1997 and curiously enough a peer reviewed paper on the existential contradiction that is Boys over flowers, the best AND worst show ever.

I liked Sojoon interactions with his future self. That's one of the most interesting part of this episode to me. What happened to future Sojoon that made him so different? And that car crash was frightening. Wow.

Watching present So-joon confronted his future self oddly felt like watching twins with polar opposite personality. I know 3 years is a long time, enough to make someone change drastically. But I just couldn't imagine what kind of event he has live through to make him look that empty and resigned. And also why he hold such a huge regret about Ma-rin, considering that she is alive and well until that fateful night. Hopefully their new connection as a Namyeong station survivor will prevent us from visiting that accident in present timeline. (Of course, after making sure So-joon didn't really disappear in this eps. It couldn't be, right?)

Maybe the future So-joon we saw here was So-joon from an alternate future where So-joon didn't marry Ma-rin As we've seen from previous episode, present So-joon found out that he's going to marry Ma-rin and tried to prevent it by cutting ties with Ma-rin. The next time he went to future, the wedding pictures in his house was nowhere to be seen and he looked satisfied. However, in the future, So-joon regretted so much not marrying Ma-rin, that's why he said “How about… you try to make things work with her?” to present So-joon.

Exactly! The future we see from So Joon is not the actual future but only an alternative one based solely on So Joon actions in the present, like what nchoe has mentioned above. I think this is the most interesting take on "the future" because one simple action in the current present can truly change one's future for good or for worst.
I think the most interesting aspect of this drama is seeing the different futures of So Joon based on his present action. For example, the future with Ma Rin and the future without Ma Rin. The happy newly wed home compare to the dark, cold home without Ma Rin in his life. It does make me wonder how my present life now will be like if I have done certain things differently in the past. I'm not curious about my future but more on how my life can be alternate based on what my past self has done. It's a fascinating genre and the reason why I'm loving this drama so much.
And did no one notice the cool glass, see-through phone in 2019? Now I'm wondering whether by 2019 we will have phones like that lol.

I'm more likely to think that he's Ma-rin's father too. The one who should have been dead was Ma-rin all along. Perhaps the train accident was not the first time Ma-rin almost die and Ahjussi have been trying to change her fate ever since (this explain the whole accident pictures and notes on his apartment wall). He's currently trying to play cupid by matchmaking So-joon and Ma-rin in hope it will save Ma-rin from dying.

I'm not sure if I caught it all, but it seems like So joon can only time travel forward as far as the date of his future death before returning to his present time. He has not traveled back in time, either because it isn't possible or he isn't inclined.
So what about the Adjussi? Is he also living in his present traveling only forward to see the future as well? That would make it more likely that he might be Ma rin's father rather than someone from the future trying to change the past.

WOW I had never heard that theory. I agree, doesn't make any sense. Most comments here and on the various sites are pretty consistent that he is Ma Rin's dad. The glaring statement that he saved his DAUGHTER being the dead give away. If they have 3 kids then a number of years has to have passed, right? or is he lying because there is some other future incident he is laying groundwork for?

Thoughts!
1) I loved this episode - I think you begin to see the thawing of So Joon's attitude towards Ma Rin, but I do wonder if their ill-fated ending is due to his attempt to marry her for the wrong reasons. Like don't get me wrong, I think he does have feelings (or at least something) for her underneath all the clutter, but on the surface, I still think his primary feeling for her is pity and a direct link to avoid death. I just can't help but think that perhaps the reason why they die then and aren't talking at the end is due to his hare-brained idea to "fake" love with her; it must all come to light and I could see her heart being broken.
2) I feel so bad for Ma Rin. She thinks this guy has met her out of a true connection and thinks that he has good intentions. She's so sweet that I do feel very pissed off at Se Joon whenever he drags her along with his own emotional roller coaster depending on how he feels about his future at the moment.
3) Also after the whole Doo-Shik conversation, I think that he is Ma Rin's father. He claims he saved his daughter after setting her up with a guy (*wink*wink* maybe it's se joon...they'll have three kids haha!!!)
4) Also still not too clear on the rules of this time-traveling universe...I guess we'll see what happens with him running out of time or whatever. But I feel like there's a small voice in my head telling me that the universe building rules are off. And while it's been easy so far to follow the story while turning that voice off, it is nagging and I could see it becoming a problem later on.

Disclaimer: I'm like the girl who posted on an earlier episode recap that she didn't really like to speculate on what might happen or be revealed in future episodes. Like her, I prefer to be surprised.
But your theory that Ma-rin will find out So-joon was just "using" her to cheat death, and the marriage will end and leave So-joon heartbroken, makes too much sense to ignore.
I also agreed with the theories after Episode 2 that Doo-shik was Ma-rin's dad. I think that was a hint that he dropped in this episode ?

Can someone explain this loophole or timeline in the time travel?
I know he felt sorry for her because of the truck of doom, which would eventually cause her death, but if he just allowed that incident to happen, doesn't that mean he (they) wouldn't die (at the same time) in the future?
Did the truck of doom happen after the Namyeong Station explosion? We saw him save her from the truck of doom before knowing about the Namyeong Station incident, but maybe in his timeline, knowing she accidentally saved him compelled him to save her (not because he felt sorry for her only)?

I think he will fall in love with her at some point during their marriage, but the secret of time travelling and their deaths will drive them apart. At some point, she would probably start feeling like he's keeping something away from her. I'm also guessing for the next 3 years, he will continue to be so focused on the future that he couldn't mentally and emotionally live in the present with Marin and probably won't realize it until she eventually leaves him. Maybe once he learns to live in the present and they don't break up, they will live?

That's interesting that Sojoon was able to talk to his future self. Maybe the future Sojoon did the same thing that the past Sojoon is doing and wasn't able to save himself and Ma Rin.
I also don't know who the future traveler that is helping him is. Is he maybe an older Sojoon but doesn't know that he is?
Is he Sojoon's son or some relative of his?
Maybe Ma Rin will be able to time travel to and both of them could work together and save themselves?
Thanks for the recap.

I dont understand the male lead's reaction to Marin. I mean, he is single, Marin is pretty but when I see the yoo so joon in the scene where he came home and married, he had this repugnant feeling against marin. I would understand if he was shocked but I get the feeling that he's not just into a woman thing, i mean , your not a teenager, 30 something, isnt it normal to be attracted to the opposite sex?
Also, there was a scene, marin put her bag in so joon's car, and then she magically still has her cp andceven pay for the cab and subway fare. Aahh dramalands

The way I saw that scene is that he was repulsed by the thought of being married to Marin, not that he doesn't like women. Basically I saw it as him really disliking Marin, because she is the kind of woman who is really not his type, and he can't believe that he will end up married to her at that point. I mean it is obvious in their short meetings in the present timeline that he tolerates her, but that he simply doesn't want anything to do with her.
He is being a complete jerk by judging her so harshly before really getting to know her, but I guess this will be a solidly good base for character growth for him as the drama continues.

Oh well, I couldn't blame So-joon in this matter. His very first impression of Ma-rin was not that great. She's close to being an alcoholic, not to mention she has a very crazy drinking habit, she also seemed like someone who's wallowing herself in self-pity (she complained so much about her life when they're drinking), and a bit too self-concious (she said that people who had nothing to do with her pitied her and made fun of her)... up to that point, this was all So-joon had known about her. And then bam! He found out that he's going to marry this woman. If I were him, I'd freak out as well. LOL.

Thank you gummimochi for the recap!
I totally agree about your analysis on our lead couple, and to rephrase more bluntly, I wish So joon were less of an a-hole and Ma rin cautious of him a bit longer. I can't help my heart flutter at the sight of their budding romance either, since I can already see they'll have amazing chemistry. Just that their foolishness speaks to how they will fare in an actual relationship, most likely giving in to petty disagreements and misunderstandings. Executed properly, this show can theoretically outline those issues while still keeping it fresh and fun to watch, so I'm looking forward to whats to come.

I will say that this drama definitely has a unique plot so far, especially with that twist in ep 4 (I won't spoil it, and will wait for ep 4 recap to discuss). I wish that the H/h had more palatable chemistry, but it is getting stronger. I still find this actor a bit lacking in charisma even though the character is great, however he is growing on me.
As for Marin, I like her a lot even though she is messed up, but there is something about her over-the-top silliness and simplicity that makes her endearing. I just hope she doesn't drink anymore, because the drama makes it seem like she is close to becoming an alcoholic. I feel bad for her because the hero doesn't love her so far, but she has such a soft heart. However I know that he will eventually start to fall for her, despite her over-the-top silliness.

Hey guys! I have like some theory/questions and I thought this would be a good place to prompt discussion.
1. Two So Joons
*rolls up sleeves*
I'm confused on how there are two So Joons. So how does the future so joon know about past so joon. Also, wouldnt future and past so joon meeting cause some kind of warp in a time frame? If two so joons exist at the same time in one time, then how do they coexist? also when past so joon travels to the future, does he just blip out of existence in the past?
2. Life saves death
Okay first I saw this interesting idea that Ma Rin is actually Time Traveler Sunbae Ahjusshi's daughter. But then I could not buy into that because we saw future so joon just watch his own death and ma rins happen without being able to stop it. How come So Joon was able to stop the car accident from Ma Rin but not the other car accident? I know that the car accident to Ma Rin doesnt cause her death but like is he unable to get out of his car and save her?
3. Is So Joon genuine or is he not, that is the question.
Does he even love ma rin, or care for her in any way? Like he's legit just trying to get with her to save his own life, because he saw his own death. I mean, he did save her when he didn't have to before, and he seems to be caring about her, but I can't tell when he's being sincere and when he's lying. He did say I'll save you so I am hoping for something and I WANT HIM TO BE SINCERE and I'm sure he is. I just don't know sometimes.

About the first question, it's pretty easy. If past Sojoon is a time traveller, then future Sojoon would be one too. He wouldn't make a fuss about his past self visiting him because it's STILL HIM. The theory about "no to same thing exist in the same place at the same time" is only applicable when, well, they're at the same place at the same time. As long as both Sojoons aren't in the same frame, as long as they don't see each other, I don't think there's going to be a problem, (at least that's how I understood time travelling laws in other shows I've watched).

When he pulled her away from the Truck of Doom she was only destined to spend time in a wheelchair, not die. I think at that time he only knew her as the woman who also died later at the hospital from the same accident as him.
Perhaps he thought if he altered an earlier event/accident it would change the outcome, given that her getting pushed into traffic began the chain reaction multi- car accident that caused his death.
I think he learned then, as Adjussi said, it was almost impossible to change your fated time to die he was ready to cut ties with her crazy train.
When he learned she was the reason he did not die 8 years ago in the subway accident he becomes newly intrigued by their fated connection and grateful for her inadvertent save.

That "remembering on the subway" scene was just magical. I seriously hope the OST is released in a timely manner because the instrumentals are making me weak ❤️️
The director is doing great job of making the emotional beats in the show feel very palpable and textured. It's like you can feel the change in the air when they happen. I'm seriously so impressed with what he's doing here, I'm tempted to go back and rewatch Oh My Ghostess and his other work, because I'm wondering if the choices he's making with this are new, or if I just never noticed them.
I haven't yet settled on a theory regarding the identity of Doo Shik. All the top contenders (he's future SJ/their son/MR's dad) seem contingent on him being able to travel to the past, and as far as I understand the rules of time-traveling in this universe, So Joon at least, can only travel to the future.
The scenes with future So Joon really make me wonder...he's obviously still in love with her at the time of the accident and full of regret. When present So Joon went to visit him for the first time and they talked through the intercom, it didn't look like Ma Rin was living with him or that they were together. Did she divorce him? Does he push her away? Or are they simply "strangers" in that reality?

That was before he learned that she was the woman from the train accident though. Which made him pursue her again, and I believe, set the wedding back in motion. The future we see in this episode, and the accident, is the result of that.
Another important detail that I wonder about...So Joon didn't mean to travel to the accident date. When he looks at his phone and sees that it's March 25, 2019... He's surprised. Did seeing Ma Rin in the subway simply make him think of her and transport him to the accident date by mistake? Did his future self summon him somehow?

Interesting. I think the time travelling rules have not been well established throughout the first 4 episodes. He can travel from present to future and vice versa by subway, but can he control the arrival time as he likes? If yes, the question is how can he do that? I also wonder if there is any limit to his travelling back and forth through time. He cannot meet his future self face to face, but its ok to talk with him through some devices, huh? This is kind of random to me, because any communication among versions of himself, in whatever form, is the same. Hmm...

@Callie I still believe that this future So-joon did not marry Ma-rin. It's true that the present So-joon had tried to make up with Ma-rin, but only when he witnessed the accident and saw Ma-rin dying, he finally made decision to marry her. I guess that's what present So-joon thought too, that his future self didn't Marry Ma-rin, otherwise he wouldn't have thought that marrying Ma-rin could change their fate, instead he would've tried to avoid the marriage since he should not make the same mistake that his future self made.
But you got a good point there and you could be right too. We need more informations here. That's why I need my episode 5 comes faster!
@Mura Yup, he can control his destination and arrive at specific time as he wants to. It took 3 years for him to master this ability. He said so in episode 2.

I have this weird theory that I saw other people also have in the Soompi forums regarding Doo Shik as Ma Rin's dad.
We know that So Joon's travel point is his present in 2016, but what if Doo Shik's present is actually a previous year? What if his present was during Ma Rin's teenage years? And the reason he disappeared from her life in the present was because he was too busy spending time in the future trying to save her? So effectively So Joon's present is actually Doo Shik's future?

I'm actually thinking it is possible to travel to the past, but Dooshik is just witholding that information from Sojoon. Time is comprised of past, present, and future so it wouldn't make sense that he couldn't travel to the past. Maybe there's just a limit to how far back he can go because he still needs the subway in order to travel. If Sojoon could travel to the past, he would definitely try to save his parents and everyone else on the subway car, and Dooshik might not want everything (or his plans) to be messed up.

That's interesting to think of...
If So Joon were somehow able to go back and save his parents, would he lose his time-traveling abilities? I feel like that could cause a mind-bendy time loop with the multiple versions of himself. If saving his parents gets rid of his ability to time-travel, how can he time-travel to save his parents, etc...
It could be that Doo Shik is withholding the information, or that So Joon simply hasn't required the skill yet to travel back in time. But I think I would dislike it if it were revealed later that he could because it would feel like the writer was changing the rules to fit the plot.

Confession time! I love Lee Min-ki [haven't quite figured out what to think about the assault allegations from last year], and was disappointed that he didn't end up taking this role. While I like the show, I kept thinking about how he would have played the role. But, with the third episode and the introduction of future So Joon, I can finally appreciate the stellar job that Lee Je Hoon is doing as the male lead.

Have a kid or die!
If you follow the right corners of South Korean news, you can see that they are worried about low birth rate and ageing population. That message might help fix the problem if they can get people to believe it :)
And getting people to believe it would probably be easier than persuading the guys to stop drinking after work and go home to attend to their night job. Or fix the stress and pressures that make people delay marriage or decide they can't afford to raise kids.

I'm confused about the first accident that SJ saved Ma-rin from (the one who would have disabled her). How does it fit in the story and why did SJ save her then ? Is it because SJ and Ma-rin are somehow destined to die at the same time and in the original timeline/universe, Ma-rin would have been disabled and both SJ and her would have die early (i.e. before 2019)? So SJ saved her and changed their fate. And now, they have to avoid the 2019 accident ?
On a side note , depending on the angle of the camera, the actor playing SJ reminds me of Tablo... Maybe it's the hair cut... :-D

I had my misgivings when I watched Signal, wondering how the writer intended to resolve the numerous times information from the present had changed the past which essentially changed the present day. But somehow the writing made it work...or rather it was compelling enough for us the audience to ignore the logical loopholes. I can only hope that Tomorrow With You's writer is as good at handling time-travelling plotlines as Signal's writer was.

You know what, I was asking myself the same question when I rode the cab on the way to work this morning. Why did he save her then? It's quite a disconnect for me. Why would he care when he did not know at that time that she was the girl on the train? It would make sense if he knew who she was before saving her, right? And I don't know why So-Joon does not question Ahjussi when he's making him do things that would change his life big time. It's pretty weird how he basically entrusts his life on a total stranger. Did Ahjussi do something significant in the past that made So-Joon trust him so much?
Too many questions! Maybe I need to re-watch the first two episodes or re-read the recaps. Hahaha

My take on this is that he saved her because he pities her. He said it once, the reason he saved her is because he saw her future (after the accident in 2009), and she was disabled and he pities her of how sad her life is because after being disabled, he knows that she will die later (i.e. the accident to happen in the future with both of them dying). The reason why he don't know why how they both died at the same place and same time is beause he still can't travel to that specific time. Remember that he only saw that when they were both on a stretcher covered with blood. Even he future SJ kept silence about the accident which is why he is so frustrated. He only knows the place and time of their death but how it happens depends on how his present action reflects his future. I also believed that the accident is meant to happen no matter what he do and like how other beanies guessed that they are in a kind of 'final destination' loop, death is hunting them, grim reaper has his eyes of them but maybe -just MAYBE, he will manage to save both of them by still getting into the accident but in the end they were both survivor again.

He knows before they even met they will die together in the future. So assuming she will hold a key in his survival, he observed her future and eventually knowing she will have a caR accident that cause her dissability, he is helping her.

Honestly much of things making sense or not making sense depends on who you think ahjussi is and what his bigger mission is.
In this whole time travel thing, ahjussi is the feedback loop (he's part of the bigger system of cause and effect and his actions is what has purpled everything that is in motion now and occurring in all these time lines. I believe there is just one timeline. There are no alternative realities. Whatever actions So Joon takes in the present, effects the future and erases whatever was suppose to be or whatever was and changes it into what now is -sort of like life. your present actions effect your future so something in your future is set in stone -ie., we'll all eventually die-but many things are in your control and how you live in the present-empthisis on present- effects your future. The only person who remembers all these possibilities and could have been and what were but was erased, is So Joon.
So Joon of the future 2019 knows all. At the same time present So Joon's actions effects his life/life and makes/changes to their life (the merging, erasing that becomes the permanent future). Ahjussi who I believe is future sure So Joon, has obviously seen/lived a future where Ma Rin lives (I don't think he dies. Even in 2019 accident I don't think he dies. He ahussi is lying about/withholding a lot of things) and he and her have a happy life. I believe he has comeback into time (yes I think he's traveling in the past) to make sure that future where no one dies and happily ever after is achieved happens.
But despite all this (cause I could be wrong) it doesn't really matter who ahjussi is. I believe the bigger lesson in all of this that So Joon must learn (and then perhaps he saves himself and Ma Rin from a unfortunate and sad future) is to FORGET THE FUTURE, FORGET THE PAST AND LIVE IN THE PRESENT. All of this harkens back to the train crash and the survivors guilt and his inability to talk about it or move on from it. It also links to his forever going into the future/worrying about the future/trying to control the future. Boy needs to live. Appreciate the here and now. Get off the phone, stop train riding and appreciate the now because a.) in an instant it can be taken from you and you are full of regrets (his parents) and b.) whatever you do in the present effects the outcomes of your future (Ma Rin, marriage, happiness or misery, shared death date?). Much of this applies to Ma Rin who herself is stuck in her past (Bap Soon).
Time travel rules, trains, ahjussi, all of that don't really matter. Both So Joon (too caught up in the future) and Ma Rin (too in the past), must learn to live/value the present so that they can have a 'tomorrow with you' aka live.

He has journals that he writes in that his past/present self can reference. He also relies on the other time-travel Ahjussi to tell him things (which we know is a bad idea, since Ahjussi is obviously withholding information).
That's why when he finds out that Ma Rin is the same woman from the train accident, he's mad at his future self for not "telling" him, saying "You should have written it down or told Ahjussi."

I dont like it too. I didnt like the first episode. I keep watching to see anything change but I realize I dont love it. It like an american tv series to me., I watch it, finish and dont really have much feeling about it.
I dont know if I have watched the low quality version but people keep compliment the cinematography I dont really see it. The color of the drama is like an instalgram color. I like bright color like goblin, on the way to airport, mdbc.
Both of the characters are boring to my taste. The guy who is a CEO, can travel through time but he doesnt do really much with it except making some money. He doesnt have an interesting life. She is a bit more interesting but she is all over place. She is not a hero or a type to sympathy, she drinks to get over everything. Not so interesting but at least she has some kind of character.
Even though there was train crash, car crash but it didnt happen in big way. Its quite. The overall tone of the drama is quite. If its a movie, it will be ok. But a 16 hours drama, it must have something really going on the keep people interested.

Regarding your third paragraph, that is actually the point of this drama.
The drama's message is to live in the present. And both characters have actually done the worst possible way to live in the present. He lives for the future. She lives in the past. I find their journey to the present fascinating.
I do see why other can find the drama boring. But what you find boring, I find intriguing. I love subtle portrayal of the two actors. I adore all the slight movements of their bodies, the hand placement, the position of their legs and feet. I love the look the give to each other when they're together and when they are about to separate.

There's a meaning to what the writer, director, and actors are showing us. There's a reason why Ma-rin bends her knees awkwardly when taking pictures. There's a meaning why So Joon awkwardly place his hands in pockets acting like he is cool and all.
I believe she was not destined to be a photographer. He wasn't meant to be a rich real estate CEO. The explosion wasn't supposed to happen. But they are always going to be meant for each other.
That's what this drama is about in my opinion.
In order to appreciate this drama, full attention is required. There's so much more going on than what's happening on the surface.

@Gelai,
The drama’s message is to live in the present. And both characters have actually done the worst possible way to live in the present. He lives for the future. She lives in the past. I find their journey to the present fascinating.
Thanks for that. At a certain point while watching one of the earlier episodes, I recalled that "Today is a gift. That is why we call it the present."
I also appreciate your comment below that full attention is required, and that there is a lot going on below surface appearances.
Semi-off-topic aside re: One of your comments on the Top Ten Favorite Dramas of All Time thread:
Thanks for your mention of SECRET LOVE AFFAIR. Normally I would never watch a drama with that kind of title, but I went out on a limb, and it was simply cracktastic. Got completely hooked, and marathoned it in about 24 hours. One of my worst Kdrama binges on record. The music was exquisite. Kim Hee-ae, Yoo Ah-in, and Park Hyuk-kwon were great. Now I've got whiplash from having seen the latter two along with Yoon Kyun-sang, who is presently headlining in REBEL, in SIX FLYING DRAGONS, which I finished marathoning on 2/9.
With SECRET LOVE AFFAIR out of my system, and having caught up on my sleep, maybe I can get a handle on the subtleties of TWY. -- Hmmm. Now that I think about it, Kim Hee-ae's character in SLA, who has done some serious social climbing at the expense of having a modicum of love in her life before she meets the earnest young pianist, reminds me a bit of So-joon. She's wasting away in an arid marriage of convenience with a music professor who's gunning for administrative advancement. So-joon has made scads of money from his forays into the future, and believes he cannot / should not get involved even in his friends' lives. "Can't Buy Me Love" by the Beatles started playing in my mind, and then the Doobie Brothers' "Long Train Running" ("Without love, where would you be now?").

When you finish watching a movie, it could make you feel good or bad. Of course you dont know how you feel when you start watching it.
Thats is move rating is about, how many people like it vs how many people dislike it. There is no perfect 10 movie so of course there are different opinions about the movie.
If this drama is a movie its easier to accept it. Normally the movie start slow then finish big. But this is a drama, first impression is the most important thing. The rating is agree with me more than with you.

Ngl, I 100% think that Doo-Shik is manipulating the timeline to save Ma-rin's life only - that So-Joon dying, somehow saves her (rare blood type, organ donation?)
Nothing Doo-Shik did could save his daughter from getting into a car accident - so maybe he found a way to save her after it?
Like, Doo-Shik needs So-Joon at that intersection to save Ma-Rin's life which is why he's been pushing him towards her so that So-Joon would want to save her, that So-Joon would love her enough to still go to the intersection even with the knowledge that he would die.

I think Doo-Shik is Ma Rin's father. It's a little suspicious that he shows up at the same accident as So-Joon, like somehow both time travelers are there. I'm pretty sure his daughter is either Ma Rin or someone involved in the accident and his job is to convince So-Joon to be on a certain path since he can't change the future on his actions alone. I also think that So-Joon doesn't actually die. I think that may be Doo-Shik knows that So-Joon is selfish and won't save someone else on his own accord unless his life is also at stake.

Oh that's a really good theory! Doo Shik is the one who convinced him his fate is tied to Ma Rin's - So Joon didn't come to that conclusion on his own.
On the other side - I know that everyone thinks their fate started on the day of the subway crash but I was thinking that maybe So Joon and Ma Rin's fate has been tied together since they were born (if one dies the other dies) and Doo Shik has been intervening for longer than we think...

I have two categories of drama: one I can't miss every scene because I could lose with the plot. Second is I can have the whole plot going on only by watching cut scene because there's not so much happening in one episode *GoblinCoughing. ?.
And this drama falls into category one. I still have so much puzzle about it. Such as I have to replay several time to see if it's So Joon in the present or in the future because I could not see there's a big different in the tone for Future and Present.
I have a thought.. is it possible to back and forth like Signal in order to change something in the future by changing the past (or present in the case of this drama)?

But there is, in the future they shrink the picture size with the same aspect ratio, (unlike Signal). And the shades are slightly darker there in the future. While in the present the pictures fill up the screen. I hope that'll help to differentiate.

The future scenes use wider aspect ratio, so you'll notice there are black parts on the upper and lower part of our screens. It's similar with Goryeo scenes in Goblin.
The present scenes use aspect ratio that fit to normal screen, hence the video appear in full screen.

I've been saying this up and down different comment threads on Dramabeans, but I am so hooked on this show. It's so damned romantic. I swoon practically every time Lee Je-hoon and Shin Mina are in the same frame. They have such crackling chemistry, and Lee Je-hoon is so intense and sexy, and thaf deceptively soft voice just amplifies the effect. I've always liked Shin Mina but couldn't get into "Oh My Venus." Here she has my sympathy, even though Ma-rin is a difficult character to like, at least at first. I'm literally obsessed with TWY...and it's been a while since I read religiously every single comment about my fav in different sites.
I wasn't sold by this drama promotion before. But I was completely hooked by its 1st episode. It was the leads' chemistry (and visual!) that made me go on board. The decent-plot and amazing directing are such a bonus since I didn't really expect much awesomeness from this before lol.

Yea, this episode raised more questions. Was it the first time we saw the present and future So Joon interacting? What are the rules on this interaction? What's with the girl friend and her father? they 'say' things that tell us about So Joon - how they know him and...? The depressed future So Joon, what is he? Are we having an It's Ok it's Love kind of situation? The older time traveller is I think Ma rin's father. That was the vibes i got from the beginning. Why he was there when he couldn't see the future (he only sees the past?)? Anyway, thanks Gummi.. for this recap.

Hmm I think yes (we saw it for the first time, but I think they (present-future self) already had interaction before, but the show didn't show it to us)
Imo, the rule for their interaction is no eye contact
But it's confusing, the future sojoon (we see now) is product by who? Which past sojoon (his action and decision) that makes result future sojoon in episode 3? Haha

Thanks for responding. These questions do not mar my enjoyment of this new drama crack. I must have replayed the last two episodes more than twice. We plod along. there's the whole story yet of what happened to So Joon after the subway explosion and how he got rich. and how he'll grow into loving Ma Rin.

I love this drama, I started it late because, you know, goblin's withdrawal symptoms was too strong ?
I love the tone of this drama, the simplicity
As a side note, I tend to like someone by their voice (speaking voice), and in dramaland, actors who have beautiful voices (in my very personal opinion ?) are Song Joongki, Soe Untuk, Gongyoo, and (thanks to Signal) Lee Johoon/Jehoon.. (I'm sorry I forgot his name ?)
So watching this drama is really bless my eyes and ears, especially if he was talking in narrative mode ?
It makes me want to rewatching signal again!

@Namu,
As a side note, I tend to like someone by their voice (speaking voice)...
Cha Seung-won, Jang Hyuk, Eric, Lee Jae-ryong, Jo Hyun-jae, Kim Mi-kyung, and Seo Hyun-jin are among the actors whose voices I find particularly pleasing to my ear.
I would hate to have to watch dubbed Kdramas -- I'd miss out on hearing Korean being spoken, along with all the emotions conveyed by pitch, intonation, speed, rhythm, warmth. For me, subtitles are the only way to watch -- short of waking up one day and suddenly being able to understand Korean, that is. ;-)

My mouth was hanging open at the end of this episode. Then I remembered that we have the rest of the series still, so he can't be GONE gone. At several points in this episode I had to pause to refocus from laughing. They're oddly cute together, I love it! Keep up the good work. I'm loving the multiple emotional shifts and beats this show gives me.

Tvn dramas needs to stop making the male character return to nothingness/ashes.
Well, from what I learn on missing soul fate on Goblin, the death will visit missing soul again and according to this case marin and so joon are missing souls. I still hold on to the theory that Doo Shik ahjussi is So Joon from far far way future.

There's something that's been bothering me this whole time.
First: We know that the reason Sojoon looked for Marin in the present is because he saw her in his future and that the ajusshi urged him to find her.
Second: We know that Marin was supposed to be disabled in the present hadn't Sojoon saved her. And she would've died earlier.
Third: According to the future that Sojoon saw, they died together after three years.
It doesn't make sense! Why did he save her when he could've prevented the future by not saving her?

I think it's because that still doesn't save Sojoon from dying in the future. Marin becomes physically handicapped, but Sojoon does say she eventually dies (probably in March 2019) from sickness. Not to mention, he just felt bad for her. The actions of the present are constantly shaping and changing the future so the best solution is to try and keep both Sojoon and Marin alive.

Am sure Ahjusshi is Marin's dad. He does say he introduced her to a new guy n encouraged them to have babies. Marin says that her dad left her n we dunno anything abt it yet. Since his version of story seems to have a happy ending, with them going on to have second n third babies, am hoping it really does turn out to be true!!

Thanks, gummimochi, for recapping and commenting.
At this point, I'm finding TWY a challenge. It's a lot for me to follow So-joon's time jumps, hallucinations/visions, and his interactions with one iteration of Future So-joon (might there be more?!?) -- which are ringing my Dickensian "Christmas Carol" chimes in a big way. As a couple of other Beanies have noted, so far we're only dealing with time travel between present and future. For some reason, So-joon hasn't gone back to the past to save his parents -- or prevent the subway explosion, the cause of which has not yet been reported. Heaven help me when he starts traveling to the time before the explosion. We know almost zilch about his parents, which is making me very suspicious.
Which subway stop does he have to go to from Seoul Station to get to the past? Or does he have to take the Magic Bus?!
When I think back on watching OH HAE-YOUNG AGAIN while it aired, I recall that tracking Park Do-kyung's premonitions/visions of his future demise were similarly arduous to figure out -- and drove a bunch of us Beanies off our collective rockers. At the time, I wasn't live-watching three other shows, and even then it was taxing. I guess I need to install more and faster RAM, update my BIOS, and reboot. If only it were so easy in real life. ;-)
I have to go back and re-watch from the beginning to see what I've been unable to grok. Somehow I feel like I'm losing my touch. It's as if I'm making myself sit in the corner with a dunce cap. How strange.
*slinks off to re-watch all over again*

Im still confused. It was seen in the first ep that seo joon saw them both dying that's why he tried to find out about Marin and ended up saving her from being hit by a truck. But isn't Marin originally ended up disabled after that accident and will die soon after as explained in the 3rd ep so how come seo joon saw them both dying in the future when Marin originally supposed to be dead first? Don't say it's because seo joon saved her and that's why she didn't get disabled what I'm asking is if Marin got hit and died in the original timeline meaning she died even before 2019 then how come seo joon saw them in the future in the first episode?

I don't think he meant that she died right after getting disabled. Think about it, dying within the next three years, for him, IS soon. Very soon. I think he just didn't want her to have such a horrible quality of life when she might very well suffer the same fate as him and only live a few more years.

I've never commented before but I feel the need to spill my thoughts out.
This show is messing with my mind so much, lol, I'm sitting here questioning basic things like, what if Marin DIDNT die in the accident in 2019, just seojoon? What if doshik somehow saved them from the subway? What if Marin does get pregnant? Etc, haha
But since the point of the show is obviously about living in the present, I wonder if all the future scenes are red herrings...it seems like the real clues would lie in the present?
But I guess if the goal is to prevent this accident and their deaths, then the real question is, why was Marin on that street that night, and where was she going?
Gah, see, I'm thinking about the future again. What's so great (and frustrating) about this show is that its lesson seems to be "live in the present!" but it has you constantly thinking about the future like Seojoon does--he thinks constantly about what to do NOW to prevent the accident happening LATER, when really he (and all of us) should be thinking about what is the right thing to do NOW. For example, we know he's trying to romance Marin (and thus lying to her) NOW to prevent the accident LATER, when we all know the right thing to do would be to be honest with Marin--although none of us object to him slowly falling for her, heh.
Of course, the viewers are thinking that way, too--we are invested in the present romance but constantly obsessing over the event in the future and trying to figure that out, and the present only worries us (at least for me) insomuch as it may effect the future. What if seojoon's present lies lead to that future accident? That sort of thinking.
Ah, I should just enjoy the present and each episode and let the writers worry about sorting that future event out, lol. "Sufficient unto the day is the worries thereof," And all that.
This show makes me feel dumb though lol

I feel like Sojoon is in a time loop sort of thing. Everything he is doing now in the present and about to do, Future Sojoon has already done. We think Present Sojoon is changing the future, but I reckon Future Sojoon went through exactly what Present-Sojoon went through/is going through. Future Sojoon saw his future death, tried to find out about Marin, saved her from the mini truck of doom, saw his future marriage with her, cut ties with her, saw his future without Marin, finds out she's a survivor of the subway explosion like him, gets told to have a baby, clings to Marin, courts her and marries her. Because we have seen Future-Sojoon at his depressed state (speaking to Present-Sojoon through the intercom), I believe the past (the viewers see it as the present atm) has already been set and nothing Present-Sojoon does will change it. Once Marin finds out the truth, she will be heartbroken and will leave Sojoon. I also believe their car accident is set and won't change. What is unknown (so far) is what will happen between when Future-Sojoon told Present So-joon to try harder/make more effort with Marin and the pile up car accident. When the viewers catch up to that point in time and Present-Sojoon talks to Past-Sojoon and remembers this very conversation, I am hoping this will give him courage to do something himself, rather than depend on Past-Sojoon to "change" the future so that even if the car accident happens, they will survive it together just like they survived the subway explosion.
Just my wild theory so far. I bet once Ep 5/6 comes out, something will happen and this theory of mine will be scrapped and I'll be imagining another theory, lol. What this drama does to me is crazy. Makes me think too much.
