Actually I was on tour for two days and couldn't wait to come back and vote. Now that I did, I feel this is similar to KBS/SBS/other network award shows, where the popular actors/high rating shows win it all. I love DB since they don't take the traditional route to Kdramas and recognise shows that are really worth watching irrespective of hype/actors/ratings. Guess people's opinion matter a lot more than I thought it was. I'm now only looking forward to Editors choice.

No Goblin?

My most favorite would be the best kiss.

There are many great dramas this year. Moonlight seems winning the most

ir is that time of the year again? What happened to me? I am usually excited for this. I remember being crazy over W and its crazy plot and reading about psycopath thanks to beautiful mind or watching MDBTC in the first half. But i fell less excited this year beanie akward and not interested to watch any drama right now. Am I in some kind of drama slump?? No!!!

Well, WHy Lee Sung Kyung in Weigthfairy Kim Bok Jo include a breakout role though? Her breakout role is in Doctor. in Weightfairy, she is just so bad for me.... In fact I can't stand her acting there. She is not this bad in her previous two role.

I did this poll last year and breezed through the whole thing. This time I went back and thought it through properly, because there were so many more dramas I loved in 2016.

Favourite 2016 dramas: Signal, Age Of Youth, Reply 1988, Page Turner, Jealousy Incarnate, 1% of Anything, Oh Hae Young Again, Come Back Mister, Police Unit 38, Beautiful Mind and Descendants of The Sun. Goblin and LOTBS are likely to make the list too.

Other 2016 dramas I mostly enjoyed but may or may not have finished: Drinking Solo, Cheese in the Trap, Scarlet Heart Ryeo, Moonlight Drawn By Clouds, Fantastic, Gogh The Starry Night, The Good Wife, Be Positive, W- Two Worlds, One More Happy Ending, Marriage Contract, Beautiful Gong Shim and Gogh The Starry Night.

It saddens me that Lucky Romance isn't on the most underrated list. I was genuinely touched by this drama. I love that even if the premise may seem wacky and out of this world imo, it was really grounded and relatable. And so I voted for Mirror of the witch which is another pleasant surprise.

Shopaholic is the most underrated drama. I was frustruated when I saw that. why people dont value good dramas. The drama was the best romcom whereas others named romcom but the melodramas exagarrated. I really need justice for shopaholic. This drama defies the cliches you think might happen..

I wish Jackpot was my sageuk for the year. I can forget the story but Choi Min-soo and Yeo Jin-goo were unforgettable.

Currently watching Han and Seo Hyun-jin in Doctor Kim, Kim Go-eun in Goblin. Kind of in the mood for some cheesy fantasy drama lol.

Looking forward to jTBC's Solomon's Perjury.

It was the best in 2015 and ended greatly in 2016.

Why wont you include it?

0

reply

Required fields are marked *

For dramas that start airing in the previous year and end in the next year, I think DB team decides on which year to include it based on how much has aired, but I could be wrong.

Nevertheless, they typically do not include dramas that have already been nominated in a previous year, which is the case for Six Flying Dragons.

So for dramas like Legend of the Blue Sea that end in 2017, they will not be included in the polls for 2017 because they were already nominated in 2016.

They could expand the category to include mini drama and web dramas. They're both very short in nature and quite a few web dramas are long enough that when you add up the length of all of the episodes, they're as some mini dramas.

What a year for drama!! I think I watched the most this year then any other year! My withdrawals this year: R1988 (totally Team Taek from the beginning =)) and Moonlight (must be Park BoGum!). Honorable mentions: Oh Hae Young Again, DotS, and W - the extension and ending didn't live up to the beginning and how awesome it could've been.

It was most hard to choose best couple! So many good chemistry this year! Onward to 2017. Loving Goblin so far and Legend of the Blue Sea is kind of a disappointment so far.

Whoa!! So many coments about favourite shows, and so far no one has mentioned one of the shows featuring my favorite actors like, Ji Chang Wook's "The K2", Lee Joon Gi's "Moon Lovers" and Lee Jong Suk's "W-Two Worlds".
Were they so terrible?

0
4
reply

Required fields are marked *

Yes, they were terrible IMO.
Those 3 dramas started out so good, it got so much potential to showcase something different . Those 3 dramas were one of the most anticipated dramas this year. yet the spark fizzled out in the halfway of the each show. The characters lost its plot and it the story became such a big mess, no smooth flow of story telling.

I dont blame the actors, Lee Jong Suk, Lee Jun Ki, Ji Chang Wook, because they really gave their best, and these 3 acting is bang on. But the direction, and the writing were not in sync maybe and all of this 3 shows went haywire. Neither head nor a tail.

Dramagods have been good this year with all these amazing dramas this year and I want a better next year in dramaland, ya hear me?? (I swear I'll study)

I don't even know what to pick with so many awesome dramas (and also the un-awesome ones) but let's skip those that got us excited and left us with a bitter taste in our mouth.

And am seriously cracking up...how come we have to pick a drama in the most noble idiot section and pick two in most idiotic noble idiot...I guess this year is also full of un-noble noble idiot.

Also dramaland dealt with a lot of death this year which is why those noble's reason is "I love you but I might die"

With that said I'll also be on the look out for the un-noble nobles next year ...oh I mean I'll be studying.

I'm usually pretty excited for this poll to come around, but not this year. I didn't like most of the years dramas. I only enjoyed about ten of them. Of the ten, a few were the popular dramas most people liked, but I hated the most of the most popular dramas that are winning in the polls. It's not very exciting to look at the votes when the things you want to win are nowhere near close.

My favorite drama of the year was This Week My Wife Will have an affair and it probably wont win anything.

I'm sorry that this year has been not-exciting for you, but it kinda happened to me too :( Sadly, finished 8 drama, only loved 5 of them, and dropped 6, ha. I guess even in here, year-end voting will be filled with fans of famous, popular drama. But what i like about beanies in db is that, we won't be alone haha. Although not reaching 20% of vote, there will be someone who loves the underrated drama that i love. And that's interesting i guess :D

I will start watching My Wife.....too once the break started! (Ugh the title is just too long) So excited after reading all good comments about it. So what drama did you really enjoy this year?

Thanks! Sorry you haven't had a great year either, but the latter half of the year has been decent I think, so hopefully 2017 will be good to the both of us!

I hope you enjoy My Wife...( I'll abbreviate it too. Like you said it's just too long!) I loved the show and think it's definitely underrated.

Popular dramas I enjoyed just like everyone else: Oh Hae Young Again and Jealousy Incarnate, Age of Youth

Dramas I thought that were okay, but not great were: Signal, and W, 38 Task force, One More Happy Ending

A Drama I enjoyed that didn't get a great response is Beautiful Mind.

My favorites this year were definitely Signal, oh hae young again, moon embracing sun, and as of now lucky romance, and as of now GOBLIN and weightlifting fairy Kim Bok Joo.

The most disappointing ones were W-two worlds , Cheese in the trap, Cinderalla And Four Knights and Moon Lovers.

The best Kiss definitely goes to Oh hae yong. ( I blushed so hard when i was watching the kisses scenes in this drama.. THE HOTTEST KISSES OF ALL TIME.. the other K-dramas need to take lessons from this drama , the standard set is so damn high)

Favourite Bromances were for me, Drinking Solo trio, CP and Kim Byung yun from moonlight, and Police Unit 38 law breaking guys. (Seo in guk, Ma dong suk)

I guess maybe, this year wasnt such a bad year.. The dramas had lot of potential , started out so good, but fizzled out later in the end..

Special mention to some of the breezy dramas which actually is very deep and hold a lot of meaning.
1. On the way to the airport
2. Age of Youth
3. Dear My Friends
I cant put these 3 shows as THE BEST, but it really felt special in another kind of way.

I haven’t seen many 2016 dramas - Out of the ones I’ve seen, my favourites are Jealousy Incarnate and Signal. They were both one of a kind dramas.

I wanna chose one though. Coz a famous SBC reporter once said, “You can’t love two dramas the same. It makes no sense. There has to be a difference, even if it is 51-49.”

So time for an introspection.

1. Who am I? - I am a romantic at heart. Hopeless. That’s how I ended up discovering K dramas. Doesn’t mean that I don’t enjoy well-told stories in other genres, but there’s no denying that rom-coms are what I eat, breathe and sleep. So that’s +1 for JI.

2. Crack quotient - Both Signal and JI were my crack dramas. But…. I dreamt about JI. I mean I don’t dream often and when I do it mostly involves being chased by someone. Never have I seen a Kdrama actor in a dream. Not even when I was obsessed with Seo In Guk. But I was SO OBSESSED with JI during its run, I saw JJS and GHJ in my dreams. So crack quotient point +1 for JI.

3. Story telling - It’s hard to compare these two dramas on this aspect because they are from different genres and they are both awesome in their respective genres. But I feel I should give Signal’s writer extra credit for the awesome way she fused the past and the present. I can only imagine how hard it must have been to tell that story without everything turning into a huge pile of mess. +1 Signal.

4. Other aspects of drama making - Don’t know much about technical aspects but both dramas kept me entertained and I guess that means awesome editing/ direction. However, I must give kudos to JI’s music department - They took that drama to a whole new level of awesomeness. +1 JI

5. Rewatch value - Other than replaying a few favourite scenes in Signal, I haven’t really re-watched it. On the other hand, I have lost count of the number of times I have gone through JI. +1 JI

6. The male leads - Lee Jae-Hoon vs Jo Jung Suk. Yeaaaahhh….. This one’s going to go nowhere coz I dig them both.

So tallying up - JI it is. Rarely do actors, story, music, skinship - all come together to swipe me off my feet. JI definitely it is.

On point on your post. I feel exactly the same way. My obsession with JI is getting to be a problem. I love love love SIGNAL which is IMO the best drama I've ever watched (aside from Nirvana in Fire), ok the second best drama I've ever watched. But only JI got me in the heart.

JJS deserves more recognition for his role because if it had been anyone else, he wouldn't have gotten so much love. He managed to instil the vulnerability into this jerk, that made me hate him, then loving him to an unhealthy degree.

The in-depth examination of jealousy in this drama is nothing like other love triangles I've seen. You many not agree with the cohabitation or NR caving in to a kiss while still in a relationship, but it's an exploration of pushing the envelope in a relationship, whether right or wrong. Plus for such a heavy subject, everything is treated with humour. Just when you think hell is gonna break, it ends up to be really hilarious.

All the side characters are also lovable, the 2 moms who are frenemies became BFF, doctor and nurse duo are a hoot, etc. I care about every single person in this drama, especially Hwashin. I love watching him being miserable and would welcome another 20 episodes of Hwashin's hijinks, provided it's still acted by JJS.

Ah, Nirvana in Fire. It is a drama that I’ve seen three episodes of and now it is on my ‘Need to finish watching someday’ list. I will definitely go back to it coz everyone online seems to be raving about it and I’m like ‘I wanna be part of all that happiness. Damn it show, I wanna love you too.’

I think the issue is that I’m not immediately attracted to historical drama type stories. In addition there’s the language barrier. Like I try to watch it and the Chinese dialogues start and my mind has a hard time accepting it ‘This isn’t Korean? Why isn’t this Korean?Korean I can understand a bit now, what is this completely foreign language you’ve thrown at me? I refuse to take part in this’ And it shuts down. So I keep putting Nirvana away for later when my energy levels are better. ( Which makes me now wonder how I got into Korean dramas in the first place because 3 years ago, Korean was as foreign to me as, well, Chinese. Heck, I couldn’t even show you South Korea on the globe before I got into Kdramas)

So ya, long story short, I wanted to say I will get to Nirvana in Fire one day. I don’t want to miss out on a good story!

Ready to leave CITT behind me and looking forward to what next year has to offer. I just realized that last year, I was obsessing over SFD. Will we get a show like that in 2017?

The dramas i watched this year.

1. DESCENDED FROM THE SUN: Gave up in the middle, because it was too cheesy for my taste. Really Overrated.
2. OH HAE-YOUNG AGAIN: .LOVED LOVED LOVED till the end. One of the BEST EST THIS YEAR.
3.DEAR MY FRIENDS: Such a nice meaningful slice of life drama. Connected well with me. I still miss those 5 halmonies.
4. MIRROR OF THE WITCH: Really Dark drama, with the black magic and all.
5.LUCKY ROMANCE: Fluffy rom-com. Loved it to the core.
POLICE UNIT 38: I loved how they conned those rich chabeols to pay the tax. Pretty intelligent, witty and very dangerous.
BEAUTIFUL MIND: Truly underrated drama of this year. Would have loved it if they didnt cut back the 2 episodes. Dr.Oh , was one of my favorite characters this year.
WANTED: Umm, skipped like 3 episodes, but later finished it well. Unique, but frustrating at times.
MARRIAGE CONTRACT: Tear Jerker! I never knew UEE could act this well. Loved the little kid too.
PIED PIPER: I watched it up to the episodes aired on the site i was watching which was upto ep 8. Really good drama, dont know why they didnt upload the full episodes. Shin Ha Kyun is GOLD.
MOON LOVERS: SCARLET HEART RYEO: Disappointing to the core. Barely hung to this drama till the end , because of Jun Ki.
COME BACK, AJUSSHI: Gave it up from ep 5. I just really did not get it or was too boring. Rain could not help me to watch it till the end.
GOODBYE MR. BLACK: Had potential to do so well. Just Average in my case. Kim Kang Woo stole the show.
JACKPOT: It started out so good, but i dont know what really happend. Would be considered one of the WORST sageuk dramas i watched.
AGE OF YOUTH: Really meaningful, cute and warm show.Loved the 5 girls.
CHEESE IN THE TRAP: Park hae jin was truly wasted in this drama. Gave it up in the middle. I do not regret at all.
ONE MORE HAPPY ENDING: I was supposed to finish watching this, but could not. Watched till ep 10.
SHOPPING KING LOUIS: BUNDLES OF CUTENESS. I want to adopt Louise. DONE!
ENTERTAINER: Umm, Ji sung really did bad , by choosing this show. Loved the songs, but the story wasnt THAT GREAT.
SIGNAL: THE BEST! Not enough words to describe how much i LOVED this drama.
FLOWER IN PRISON: Gave it up, because it was too slow. Too SLOW.
JEALOUSY INCARNATE: Liked it. The love triangle did get a bit frustrating, but it really lived up to its name. Jealousy.
MASTER—GOD OF NOODLE: Too Slow
ENTOURAGE: Gave it up from ep 1.
LAUREL TREE TAILORS: Liking it so far. Hyo Won and Tae Yang is the cutest.
ON THE WAY TO THE AIRPORT: First time i loved a couple having affairs. This is so wrong, but so right. Damn
WEIGHTLIFTING FAIRY KIM BOK-JU: kim bok ju is SO ME!
BRING IT ON, GHOST: First time i liked Taecyon in a drama.

continuing the list

W—TWO WORLDS: Such a disappointment at the end. Too many twists , ruined the show.

OH MY GEUM-BI: The best child actress of this year.
Loved the little geum Bi. It is so going to be heartbreaking one.

CINDERELLA AND THE FOUR KNIGHTS: DISAPPOINTMENT not worth to even mention.

THIS WEEK, MY WIFE WILL HAVE AN AFFAIR: Liking it. Glad this show is not on the reason for having affairs but what next after the affair. What happend the marriage, kids, and all those around you. Must watch drama.

MOONLIGHT DRAWN BY CLOUDS: Goes to my favourite Sageuk dramas of all time. Park BO gum as CP would be remembered forever. He is THE BEST CP.

DRINKING SOLO: This show related to me on SO many levels. Loved it , but the ending of the lead couple, wasnt memorable, which is the only complaint from my side. All others are PERFECT!

THE K2: Who was the lead? Who was the villain? I dont know. Had so much potential, got ruined due to underdevelopment of lead characters.

DOCTORS: Less about Medical, More about Maths homework. The chemistry just faded out in the end. The story got so boring, i skipped like 4 episodes.

MONSTER: Watched upto ep 25 or something. Was supposed to finish, but forgot about it anyways.

THE MAN LIVING IN OUR HOUSE: Started so good, but its getting boring.

THE GOOD WIFE: An American show remade beautifully. I never watched ‎Jeon Do-Yeon dramas, this was my first. and i loved her acting. Yoo Ji tae, made me swoon whenever he comes onscreen.

BEAUTIFUL GONG SHIM: Cute, Pretty, and Sweet. Glad that the 2nd cousin wasnt bad, unlike in many other dramas. Nam goo Min can play any character. But i still prefer him in the villian roles, because he just makes me want to strangle him whenever he plays villain roles in the most devilish way. Minah was so good, cant believe this was her first drama. She just gave birth to the character Gong Shim.

Am wondering whether best kiss category is limited to first kiss? Coz hands down for me the best one is Oh Hae Young Again, but pojangmacha version; the memory still burns my heart...
Oh, and can't help to vote for Memory for best amnesia category because of the wording ^_^

No, the handcuff kiss from W for example was not the first kiss of that couple, same for DOTS their first kiss was the wine kiss if I remember correctly. I don't now how the kisses or shows/character are selected, I guess they first selected some that they personally liked the most and that is making up the choices we can vote for. :)

It's simply not the holiday season until the Beanie Awards appear!

Yay!

True that. I even held off telling people "Merry Christmas". Today I finally gave in, and it's probably because the beanie awards have arrived!

Enjoy it while you can.

Lots of us think 2106 has been an especially good year.

I predict a big fall-off in 2017 because China's retaliation over THAAD will mean less market for kdramas, less funding for kdramas as they lose one of their biggest markets, big financial issues for shows that were counting on making lots of money off China, etc, etc.

Perhaps.

It'll definitely give less incentive to companies that cast bad actors/actresses for the sake of their popularity in China.

I'm quite surprised with myself since I didn't vote OHYA for any category though. I thought I like that show.
