Legal drama Defendant finds leading lady in SNSD’s Yuri

girlfriday: Casting news for SBS’s Defendant!

javabeans: Ooh! Yay! Hit me.

girlfriday: SNSD’s Yuri has been cast in it.

javabeans: …I take that back. But okay, I’ll think positively. Just as long as they get a good lead…

girlfriday: She’s the lead.

javabeans: I didn’t mean hit me that way. Like, the only lead? Or maybe the second lead? Third lead?

girlfriday: She’s the defender in Defendant.

javabeans: That is… terrible news. Why would you come at me with an exclamation point for that? You got me all excited and then kicked me in the shin.

girlfriday: I had to get your attention somehow. I didn’t want to write this story by myself.

javabeans: But.. isn’t this the drama that was supposed to give our Ji Sung back some of his dignity after Entertainer? He already had his Hyeri! Why would you do this to him again?

girlfriday: Ji Sung + idol does seem like a pretty firmly established recipe for disaster. But is Yuri better than Hyeri?

javabeans: Erm… That is a question with no winners. I suppose she might pull off a lawyer better than Hyeri, and Yuri’s acting style isn’t “shout indiscriminately at everything,” but then again maybe Hyeri is better at the emotional stuff? But really, we’re comparing heights of acorns on this one.

girlfriday: She’s been cast as the public defender heroine, the role originally considered by Han Ye-seul. She’s described as an idealistic, hardworking lawyer who wants to be cool-headed, but always loses her temper in court and loses all her cases.

javabeans: I can’t say I’m crying about losing Han Ye-seul, who I like mostly when playing comically over-the-top types. I just feel like if we were going to get someone else, it should be someone better?

girlfriday: This is more like a step sideways. I liked Yuri well enough in the bubbly rom-com web drama Gogh’s Starry Night, but this is a heavy legal thriller where she has to defend a man with amnesia on death row.

javabeans: I did think she was okaaaaaay in Neighborhood Hero (much better than Fashion King, at least), but she’s not anyone I’d get excited about. I want someone on par with Ji Sung, or even a little less awesome would do. Just, not that much less awesome. He’s not confirmed yet, but it sounds like he’s close to it, and it was sounding like an interestingly intense drama, from the writer of City Hunter and the PD of Yawang and 49 Days.

girlfriday: You know, I’m sure Yuri will be serviceable if the character is meant to be the plucky Candy type heroine.

javabeans: Yes, I don’t think she will tank the show. It’s just that the words that come to mind with her are all of that ilk: serviceable, tolerable, acceptable. And the last time we got a plucky, hot-headed public defender who lost all her cases, it was Lee Bo-young and the words we used for her were…

girlfriday: Sassy, amazing, hilarious, memorable, and perfect?

javabeans: They should just get her. I’m sure someone on this team has an in with her. Surely they could put in a call.

girlfriday: Can you just imagine the sizzling chemistry that would unfold?

javabeans: *Dreams* It would be kind of weird for fans to write fanfic about a married couple, though, wouldn’t it?

girlfriday: They call that real life.

Why can't they pick a real-life couple as leads? If i'm not mistaken, I haven't seen a drama that casted a real-life couple, I mean, they became a couple even before the drama started. Not while they are filming it.

No reason, but Ji Sung and Lee Bo Young have specifically said they won't act together anymore. I kind of get it, mixing work and marriage seems like asking for trouble!

It actually depends on the couple if they will let personal issues affect their work. Here in our country, there are a lot of married couples or those who are in a relationship that work together in a drama or movie. And so far, I haven't heard any problem that arise while they are working.

I kinda half agree with zia and half agree with NaijaNoona.

On the one hand, my country (well one of them, lol, dual citizen here) has also got quite a few real life couples acting in dramas, and it's so sweet to watch them. It honestly just doubles, triples, quadruples all the feelings while watching every scene and interaction.

On the other hand, we do have this one infamous married couple whose real life relationship kind of ruined the on-screen ship.

Long story short, we had this long-running drama with the RL married couple playing a fictional married couple. All is good for several years, you've got episodes and interviews of cuteness galore. Like, I kid you not, I grew up with this RL/fictional ship.

Thennnnnnnnnnnn the RL couple gets divorced. And the fictional couple gets separated (the ship was too popular with fans for the writers to outright sink it). Then RL couple seem to be rekindling their romance again. Fictional couple gets back together. Then RL couple have a huge falling out worse than the initial divorce, and the fictional couple's female half is promptly killed, buried and mourned for. To give the writers credit, they tried to stay true to the characters by having the husband go through this deep grief, never forget his love etc. etc. etc. but it's kind of a cold comfort considering.

So yeah, on the one hand things can go great for years and you can have fuzzy feelings galore. On the other hand, all that loveliness can also eventually go down in a burning blaze of Breakup, with both the real and fictional relationships so ruined that you can't think of either one of them without feeling a bit sad and wondering if it would've been better for everyone to keep real life and screen life separate after all.

...That said, it's still adorable af to see real life couples acting as one, so I'm probably a glutton for punishment either way.

* Okay, so after talking to another fan of said infamous drama, I have to add a disclaimer:

The IRL chain of events affecting the fictional chain of events above is as I heard it from my Aunty over the phone (lived between two countries most of my life lol so I always got my juicy gossip from her). Apparently her version of events is different from a few other versions floating on the net, so I can't be sure whether it's 100% accurate or not. The timing of the rl/fictional divorces still holds true tho lol, just can't be sure about the timing/reasons with the rl on-again-off-again and the fictional character death.

Dramas in Korea doesn't run long...at least 3 months, except for daily dramas. So, I think there wouldn't be any problem within the 3-4 months of filming. Hehe!

0

OMG, @Fish n' Chips that's...I feel sorry for the fans...and the couple too lol!!

0

@Flightey Gazelles lol thank you for the condolences. Tbh it was a long time ago and I'm sure everyone's over it by now.

(Tbh the more I seem to talk about it w/ others here the more everyone's version of the story seems mixed up, so who knows what really went on behind the scenes at this point lol X'D.)

And I think both the actors are still doing okay, too, so all's well that ends well I guess. (Well, except mini-me's generation being traumatised over our childhood otp breaking up in real and fictional worlds LOL, but hey there are some pains we must all go through....)

I guess it's because different culture? I never see or hear any real-life couple (married or not) got cast together in one drama or movie.. Or maybe it's reallly rare in Korea. Though that would be a stuff of fan dream comes true, no?

Whereas in my country some couples could find newfound popularity if they star in a new drama/movie/variety show. People love the idea of real-life perfect couple gotta work together and usually everyone supports and love the couple.

And then my second thought, because I am a terrible person who eats puppies and rainbows for breakfast, is that I hope she does terribly and the drama tanks because I don't like legal dramas anyway and perhaps this will serve as a horrible warning about casting idols. My third thought? Ji Sung must be hard up for money, or anxious to stay in someone's good graces.

I was really interested in this drama thanks to him, and the premise, and was hoping someone like Moon Chae-won would end up the female lead instead of Han Ye-seul. It looks like that backfired. To go from Han Ye-seul to Yuri actually feels like a step back.

Please run away Ji Sung. I want to watch a drama with you in it again, but this is going to end up just as terrible as Entertainer. You deserve better than these poor actresses. There are other dramas. Live to act another day!

Yuri isn't even bad though. And (unpopular opinion) Ji Sung isn't all that either.

I'm not a fan of the recent influx of idol castings either, but I wish y'all would stop acting like your oppas are being sacrificed on an altar every time a female lead gets casted, whether they're an idol or not.

0

I think the issue is with her acting, not necessarily her being an idol. Because even if Yuri isn't terrible I definitely would not call her good and this role sounds like a character with a wide range of emotion and Yuri's ability to convey depths of emotion tends to fall flat.

0

Required fields are marked *

I think the point of the article is that they want two leads they are super excited for rather than just one. You are right; Yuri isn't bad and you may not think Ji Sung is great, and that's fine, but there is an imbalance in acting range.

Personally, I think Yuri might be all right in the role. However, I wish I was sure she will be all right in the role.

I was referring more to the comments crying for Ji Sung to run and how he "deserves" a better partner rather than the actual article.

If Ji Sung joins the project, he'll do so willingly. I'm just tired of people in the comments section acting like their favorite actors are being subjected to torture when they're paired with an actress that they don't see "fit" for whatever reason. Every casting article that comes out now a days seems to be filled with comments about how the actress isn't "good enough" to be paired with so-and-so actor. Whether they're a seasoned actress or a newbie. It just feels like a lot of unnecessary girl hate.

0

reply

Required fields are marked *

What's the alternative, then? Staying silent about actresses who are incompetent or not up to par at their jobs -i.e. acting - because all criticism of anyone female is apparently "girl hate"?

And it's worth remembering that the people really getting cheated by the repeated casting of idols who can't act, are not the men - it's other actresses, i.e. women. Whose names show up in these posts all the time because people would like casting directors to give a shot to women who can actually act, instead of handing a free pass to the ones who can't. Also, db has never been kind to crappy actors of either gender. Maybe if you could see past the knee-jerk impulse to characterise all criticism of Yuri and her ilk as 'hate', you'd see that.

Oh my!

I think Peach was referring more to those who might be in Kim Go Eun casting posts saying she isn't pretty enough to be so and so's co-star or whatever. I think you have a point too, pogo. But I don't think Peach meant to say that ALL criticism is hate.

0

@canxi - just for the record, I believe comments about Kim Go-eun (and IU, before her for Scarlet Heart) are bs.

But it's worth noting that these two particular actresses have actually met with enthusiastic reactions to their acting/prospective casting on db earlier (see early posts on KGE being courted for Cheese, or even comments on KGE's acting as Seol while it was airing), and the particular dislike of them now appears to be fuelled by imagined wrongs committed by them offscreen, rather than their acting itself.

0

@pogo

"the particular dislike of them now appears to be fuelled by imagined wrongs committed by them offscreen, rather than their acting itself."

Would you not consider that "hate" though? Especially the kind that PSH gets, as you mentioned, that is mainly fueled by female fans?

The criticism they get is entirely removed from their acting and, like you, I don't think that's fair.

I guess Yuri was a bad example for me to go out all "guns ablazing" for. I'm not a Yuri Stan btw, I really don't give two hoots about her either way. I was just trying to express my frustration with the unfair treatment I feel a lot of actresses have been getting lately.

0

I agree with you pogo.

I guess I can also understand where Peach is coming from because it does seem like sometimes the guys (unless particularly awful) get a little more faith where the girls might not, even if they've done well here and there. There is a lot of love for many actresses here, but every now and then I am sometimes surprised at negative comments

0

@Peach - it's definitely ridiculous and unreasonable, and I would call it 'hate' but it's at least connected to something they actually did (public comments in KGE's case, alleged misinterpretation of a book in some song lyrics by IU) - in fact, prior to those incidents, they were pretty well-received on here.

It's rather different from the case of an actress getting hate for nothing they've actually done a la Park Shin-hye (in whose case I suspect people are also unable to separate her from her awful character in Heirs, and she therefore makes a convenient scapegoat to contrast against anyone who gets called a crappy actress).

@canxi I think that may also be because less crappy actors make it to lead roles in general - I mean, go to the post about L potentially being the lead of that Chae Soo-bin drama and virtually everyone is stoked for her but quite the opposite for him. Comparatively, the only requirement for female lead roles in a lot of cases seems to be looks/popularity, which talent being strictly optional.

0

Ahhhh. I definitely feel you on that.
It can get annoying. Especially when it's a good actress that gets it. Maybe it's more a problem of too much unnecessary oppa love, lol.

0
4
reply

Required fields are marked *

It's ironic, because a lot of hate directed against decent-but-divisive actresses (e.g. Park Shin-hye) seems to come from fans of idols/actresses who've been called out as being crap at acting.

So it's not even oppa love but more like misguided unnie love.

0

Yes! Of course some criticism is warranted, but the concentration of it leans so heavily on the female side that you'd think incompetent actresses were falling from the sky!

And this isn't specific to Yuri or idol actresses in general. Kim Go Eun is "too ugly" for Gong Yoo, Soo Ae is "too old" for Kim Young Kwang...

Maybe this was the wrong post to vent on, as my feelings are more a culmination from what I've seen over the last few weeks than anything having to do with this drama.

0

@Peach as I pointed out, Kim Go-eun is in the crosshairs because she (rather unwisely) chose to comment on the Cheese scandal while it was on - it has less to do with her acting or with acting in general, than with the dislike directed at her for her public comments on a subject that had a lot of people very touchy.

I can't speak to the Su Ae situation but I have to say, I'm surprised - if for nothing else, because it was Kim Young-kwang who's been the target of (warranted, imo) db dislike for years following certain obnoxious comments in an interview.

0

@pogo

Depending on the commenter, it can even be both lol.

0

@Peach
I honestly wasn't a fan of Ji Sung in entertainer but you are right he will willing have chosen this so let's see. As for idol actresses , they are mostly cast as they have their own legion of fans and ratings wise productions want to harness that, not to mention their management companies are supremely good at lobbying for them. I personally feel, it's unfair to the wonderful actresses out there who don't even get a shot at being considered. But that is not the idols fault, it's the systems. There's always exceptions, it's not girl hate though, I've seen male idol get same amount shit being thrown their way for poor acting so definitely not girl hate. My two cents.

"stop acting like your oppas are being sacrificed on an altar every time a female lead gets casted, whether they’re an idol or not."

Really? Even on posts about Jung Eun-ji or Choi Soo-young being cast in stuff as leads? And they're both idols!

I must also have been imagining the largely supportive comments on casting posts featuring younger actresses prospectively taking up leads opposite "oppas" - including but not limited to Nam Ji-hyun, Park Bo-young, Go Ah-sung, Kim So-hyun, Kim Yoo-jung, Park So-dam, Kim Seul-gi, Jo Boa, Chae Soo-bin, Park Hye-soo, Han Ye-ri, Lee Yoo-bi, Kim Go-eun, Lee Sung-kyung, Kang So-ra, Baek Jin-hee, Gong Seung-yeon, Shim Eun-kyung..... do I really have to go on?

And db is the fastest to admit when we're wrong about someone turning out good at acting - see the reactions to Minah (Beautiful Gong-shim), Sooyoung (My Spring Days), Nana (The Good Wife) or even IU (Producers) for proof.

But of course, it's easier to keep squawking about "girl hate" just because the people you like aren't up to scratch.

I mean, have you visited a Tacyeon post or Song Seong Hub( not sure about the spelling, The one nicknamed handTowell)

I mean even DB Darling Lee He Hoon is not spared sometimes. I've personally never watched him in anything but I've read movie reviews where his acting was praised. He even acted in a gay romance ( Korean cinema is really daring) so I know his not an actor who plays it safe.

Trivia: Ji Chang Wook and Kang Hanuel acted in a musical where they played lovers or something like that. Why am I not in Korea????

We love our oppas but when they don't do well as expected, we'd be the first to point it out.

0

oh, and another point: db is equally unenthusiastic about male idols. See reactions to any Exo member getting cast in anything, for proof.

Heck even on the initial casting post for Misaeng, a lot of people were not into Im Shi-wan taking up the role of Jang Geu-rae, and that was despite him proving himself in several previous performances and actually having played the role before.

Yes all the "hate" is a ligitamate reaction to the trend of good (mostly) actresses being picked over for lead roles in favor of just "seviceable" ones. Popularity is 100% the reason. I'm not a kpop fan, so some of the actresses chosen to play these heavy roles are just baffeling to me.

These decisions do matter and do effect the quality of the dramas. I stopped watching Entertainer because of Heyri. I couldn't stand her in that despite enjoying her previous work in 88.
I almost stopped watching UF because of Suzy, and had no knowledge (good or bad) of her acting ability prior to watching.
If Let's Fight Goast had been a more emotionally challenging drama, I would have dropped it because of Tec.

0

Couldn't agree more with peach. If he sign on it i think that's mean he already count the possibility. The hate being unnecessary here. In the end it's just drama y'all. Enjoy and sip your coffee ☕☕

I think YEH's acting career in Korea is more or less done following that stupid 'scandal' over her allegedly plagiarising something on a design competition. Which is bs to me but there you go.

SWWTN was an injustice against Lee Yubi, she deserved better. It was painful seeing a talented young actress actively searching for any hint of emotional depth or point of connection with a character designed to give her absolutely none. And she was seriously injured through most of her time filming, which actually has me worried that her long hiatus might have been for health reasons - girl is still a rookie, she needs to act again!

re: Yoon Eun Hye, what? Is there no way she could fight back? Look at Song Hye Gyo and Han Hyo Joo and others like IU. What about the movie industry? Surely they're more... flexible and liberal.

I actually first saw Lee Yubi in Gu Family Book and I became an instant fan! Her acting was convincing enough for me to declare her a good actress. She had all those intense scenes with the antagonist, a senior actor and she HELD HER OWN, even contributed to the intensity. Remember that scene where she was serving him tea with a smile while promising to off his ass? And she had a playful and sweet chemistry with Lee Seung Gi.

@Flightey Gazelles - Song Hye-kyo and Han Hyo-joo have been way more successful than YEH (ratings/box office-wise) for years now, that probably plays a role in things too :/

GFB was the project that made me a fan of Lee Yubi too - she was fantastic there, and I loved how she could go from playful to intense on a dime. I just can't with people trying to dismiss her because she dared to be better at acting than most of her costars in that drama, or based on the mess that was Scholar.

0

@pogo, I noticed you always say that YEH's career is done (because of the "scandal") whenever someone mentioning YEH name. What make you sure about that especially since you're clearly not her fans (who literary the ones which always know almost everything about her, even before the others).

YEH & her agency always said, again & again, that she still got many acting offers, domestic & internationally, even after the scandal. Haven't take any acting project yet doesn't mean her career is over you know. I don't like people who always think they know about everything but in reality don't :(

@pogo, what "plain facts" are you talking about ? If you're talking about she didn't take any acting project for 3 years, which make her career going down, isn't make sense to me. FYI, YEH took hiatus for 2 years after she finished Coffee Prince. So if it based on your way of thinking YEH career must have done after CP, which clearly isn't true.
There are many reasons an actress/actor doesn't take any acting project yet besides getting involved in a scandal. SHK & IU have proved it that a scandal won't holding them from taking new project. So did YEH.
It could be that she doesn't find any project she's interested yet. Have you think about that ?

Moreover, if her career is done, why she still get CF offers ? Global brand L'oreal still keeping her as their model & Chinese skincare Mageline hired her as their new spokesperson.

Han Chae Ah will be good for this!

I seem to be the only one who watched A Man Called God. She was really good as Reporter Jin Bo Bae, idealistic and unglamorous. It was during my Kdrama rookie days, and I remember being surprised later, when I googled her and found out she was considered this beautiful fashionista, even nicknamed Korean Barbie. Then I saw her in Boys Over Flowers and was stunned to see her so beautiful, I remember her fondly ad Reporte Jin Bo Bae!

I did watch A Man Called God, actually! Back in my rookie days as well. I believe you're thinking of Han Chae Young, though. Who would be good for this role. She's her best when she's not playing the glamorous type.

Oops, I meant Han Chae Young

She'd really fit this idealistic, losses-temper-easily( and cases)-lawyer.

Where is she? I really have a soft spot for her.

I have no idea what she's been up to. Last I saw of her was in that Ad Genius drama with Jin Goo which is a drama that everyone should forget.

I love Han Chae-young too but she's focused mostly on China. She's like Chae-rim unni (lead of Dalja and All About Eve).

Guys, Korean Actresses Association just called me to explain their actresses are on very long hiatus. Subway has just confirmed they take the actresses on vacation with unlimited foot-long subs, therefore they're not available for taking any shows until at least the end of 2017. See you in 2018! Have fun with Suzy, Yuri and Yoona while you're at it!

Yuri as the defender? Maybe she's just one of the staff in the Public Defender's Office. Well technically she's a defender. But the NOT THE ONE DEFENDING THE HERO. I'm still keeping my hopes high.

I would have loved to see Seo Ji Hye in it. This girl needs a breakthrough drama.

i'll take Sooyoung out from your list. She is better than those your mentioned. My Spring Days proved that. Her acting cannot be solely judged from PU38 because she actually had nothing much to do in that drama.

Sooyoung is actually a decent actress though - far better than her bandmates. She doesn't deserve to be lumped in with them.

Soo young never becomes the reason I watch the drama she's in it, but always ends up liking her. In PU38 it wasn't because she's bad, she just didn't get much to do.

Yeah, sooyoung is the best idol actor out there. She could have done Anna way better than Yoona did. Imagine her with JCW!!

To make it better, she is even a 100 times more beautiful than Yoona and Yuri. I just don't get why she doesn't get better casting roles. I didn't like PU38, she should have been given the other girls role and would have done it way better.

Our sooyoung is the best!!

What have Ji Sung done to get two not so talented idols as a partner consecutively.

Seriously, if the only SNSD member that can act well is Sooyoung, but sadly no chance to shine. If they insist the idols, Sooyoung or Nana will be great.

After The Good Wife, I think Nana will do well. Anyone else see Nana as "public defender heroine, an idealistic, hardworking lawyer who wants to be cool-headed, but always loses her temper in court and loses all her cases.?"

Seo In Guk nailed any roles given and own them, so much that I don't see traces of his old character in his new ones. This is a trait that's not all actors can do - I won't name names but lots of young lead-actors around his age still cannot nail this.

Otherwise, I can't think of any explanation.

Good grief. The news of Suzy possibly getting cast to star with LJS was heartbreaking enough. I haven't seen much of Yuri's acting, to be honest... I do wish the Korean industry would stop handing roles to these idols trying to break into the acting realm. There are plenty of young actresses, who deserve to get a juicy role like this one.

The time when I read "loses her temper on the court and loses all her cases" I thought about Lee Bo Young to. Hahaha... It was the best character at that time.
I've never watched Yuri in any drama yet (still considering Gogh's Starry Night, it's already on my watchlist plan) so I really in the dark about her acting skill. But for that character I'd like to see Shin Sekyung or Jung Yumi (the other Jung Yumi from SFD) or Han Groo or Kang Sora.

Oh wow so it's like Ahn yona with Ahn yona! And Ji sung again killing the role of ahn yona better than anyone else. To be honest if you were given the choice of watching one Ahn yona then who would it be? Ofcourse Ji sung's Ahn yona! And the other Ahn yona would be just invisible. So lets just focus on Ji sung's Ahn yona and give Yuri's Ahn yona a backseat. I know she's important and all in this drama but i really want Ji sung to this show cos he really deserves a badass role by a good writer and pd which could make up for entertainer. Also my love for Ji sung's Ahn yona (née acting) could forsee anyones Ahn yona. Lets hope for the best beanies✌

P.s. sorry for using so many Ahn yonas but that is the only way i could describe how awesone our Ji Sung is!

Oh, Lee Bo Young definitely! But if you think about, they went for Han Ye Seul as the first choice and now Yuri. If there's one thing in common between the two, it's that they tend to convey the image of a candy, plucky female character. We must have gotten the wrong idea about the character needing an actress with a strong, confident, capable aura given the pattern they went for. However, it's still a let down that we didn't get a better actress. If not Lee Bo Young, I would have been fine with the likes of Park Si Yeon, Han Chae Ah, Kang Sora and Jung Yumi to name a few. I'm a big fan of SNSD but, let's be real, Yuri's not exactly an ideal choice. Let's just hope she proves us wrong.

Personally I think that Yuri is loads better now! I really didn't like her at all before but she was great in Go Ho's starry night. I would've preferred to see her in another romcom but I think and I highly appreciate that she's improving with her projects, unlike other idol-turned-actresses whose performances are still blah, even after lots of projects. It won't really be a waste for her to be with big name sunbaes such as Ji Sung if she's going to learn and grow from acting with them. Anyway, Ji Sung has got nothing to lost even if he's paired with idol actresses because he is already a stablished actor.

Why did I reply to her comment about YEH (which I admitted is out of topic) ? Because I noticed she always mention it in several occasions as if it's true. I tried to ignore it first/before but this time can't. Is that wrong ?

Give me a break. Producers should stop casting idol as leads! Particularly girls. I'm sorry, you guys are beautiful and so wonderful in singing, but when it comes to acting, they were like doing aegyo (which was irritating) in everything they did. Cast actors, please? I know they need someone popular for promoting film, but it'll be the same if they cant act well. I am not saying idol singer can't act, they just don't do a lot of acting practices as the actors do. That's why they lack in acting, but superb in singing.

If you still want to cast them, better cast them at secondary, or third role. There a lot of actors which also got amazing acting skills. It would be nice if they cast LBY with JS together, though.

So this is my personal opinion. You can't do all things at best. I dont remember seeing many idols were superb at acting too. Maybe few of them. These are some idols that have played leads and my opinion for their acting

JUNG EUN JI (okay, good), SOOYOUNG (okay, good), UEE (not bad but I cant stand her crying) SUZY (she acted better as second lead, the annoying girl rather than being lead), KRYSTAL (same as Suzy), IU (much better now) YOONA (hmm... still need practices as lead, she's good at YAMD, though), SEOLHYUN (poor, still need a lot of practices), HYERI (she's good at Reply but not so-good at Entertainer) um.. who else?

YURI? Doing aegyo so much.

Oh and I'm saying this specifically for female idol. Male idols dont have to do aegyo though, so they might be better at acting. CHOI SIWON and SEO IN GUK are my favorites idol-turned-actor so far. IM SIWAN is potential.

My point being is, DO NOT CAST IDOLS BASED ON THEIR POPULARITY, BUT THEIR ACTING SKILL!!
