Lee Jong-seok considers using mile-long legs to kick soccer balls in Dream

rsz_ljs

Lee Jong-seok (W–Two Worlds) may return to the big screen in sports film Dream, but nothing has been confirmed. Dream is the new project headed by director Lee Byung-heon (not the actor). He was the one who made the coming-of-age comedy movie Twenty, which starred Lee Jong-seok’s best buddy, Kim Woo-bin. I’m noticing a trend where Lee Jong-seok likes playing athletes: Olympic sharpshooter for W–Two Worlds, national swimming champion for No Breathing, and now maybe a soccer player for Dream

About the movie: Dream takes place at the Homeless World Cup. I’d never heard about it before this, but the Homeless World Cup is a social movement that gathers homeless people from all across the world through football, or as we Amurricans say it, soccer. By engaging them in a team sport, it helps empower these individuals by challenging them to build relationships and set concrete achievable goals. Lee Jong-seok has been offered the role of the football athlete who ends up leading the South Korean homeless team.

Currently, he’s in the middle of filming noir action movie VIP, which is slated for release next year. He has also signed on to star in writer Park Hye-ryun’s new fantasy legal drama While You Were Sleeping. If Lee confirms for Dream, he’ll start with his plate full for next year.

I'm guessing there's not going to be any female lead for this movie? Bring on the bromance !

Wow! he's mentioned earlier this year (i think) that he plans to be very, very, and I repeat, very busy doing films here and there. I think being vacant for most of 2015 put everything in perspective for him. he got hungrier for roles (and I won't blame him if he craved for acknowledgement as well. nothing wrong with that!). as a fan, I am glad.

there's a different vibe though compared to when he was with Wellmade and he was [almost?] overworked. it feels that now, it is actually him wanting to do all these roles/projects. that could be attributed to YG, but I really think it's his hunger and passion.

When he was with Wellmade, he said in one of his interviews that he was having complete control over what scripts to accept and his acting, though he could not say the same for others things like events and other jobs, for example the MC job.

He is just a passionate actor. He thinks 20 something is a golden age and he should have had at least one workpiece in 2015. He said he was gonna do a movie in 2015 but the shooting got delayed and he waited and waited. At the end the schedule no long worked. Near the end of 2015, he decided not to be with wellmade anymore so it was obviously not a time to accept a acting job. So he agreed to do Jade lover as a parting gift to wellmade who was related to the production of Jade Lover.

I actually prefer the way he's picking his projects now as apposed to when he was with Wellmade. He just seems more outgoing and excited about doing more work, whereas before he was really cautious and it didn't seem 100% his choice if he could do all the projects he actually wanted

The cameo in the starry night was done before W but he also did a beautiful MV with Davichi, which I highly recommend.

I would not call it domestic. After all that MV is about the farewell to someone we loved but passed away. Every thing he did before kneeling in front of the memorial tablet is a soulful and tragic routine.

Actually I never thought he was, but the fact that he's taking on so many projects really pumps me up. At least now we don't have to wait 12 months for his next drama every time any of his works wrap up

I'm down with this plot if it doesn't focus too heavily on the sports aspect, and leans more on the emotional journey. I love a good underdog story

Yeah except for recently everything Lee Min Ho touches turns to dust. Like I can't even recall the last time he did a good show. I think Kim Tan must've been his ultimate downfall because he's become my anti-drug when it comes to kdrama's/movies

Seeing his past works i'm not sure he's good at playing something where he has to display athletic prowess lol.. i mean he does look athletic but there's an awkward vibe to his movements whenever he has to do action scenes. He looked best in W when he just have to stand still while shooting haha

"athletic prowess"

I guess people missed the part where it says this is based off the Homeless World Cup? He's not supposed to be some professional athlete, in fact the 'awkward vibe' you speak of could benefit his portrayal of the event in a heartfelt way. I just hope they tackle the homeless subject with respect.

i guess you missed reading this line then..

"Lee Jong-seok has been offered the role of the football athlete who ends up leading the South Korean homeless team."

"이종석은 홈리스 월드컵 팀을 이끌어나가는 축구선수"

It really only implies that he's the leading soccer player of the Homeless World Cup team, doesn't imply he has prior experience or is a professional athelete. Even using common sense, it's obvious he wouldn't be a professional athelete when this is a social/relationship building experience for homeless people and only they can join. You can look up a match video and watch their skill level to see if they have "athletic prowess" (spoiler: they don't, and it's even more heartwarming).

And he's going to be playing the captain of the team, so i think the movies going to play on the aspect of how he overcomes his lack of skills to confidently lead a team that may not see to him too kindly. Like that's more the way I see this plot going..

0

@Jingko

...Are you just adding on or are you disagreeing with me? Because nothing I said negates this. This could mean he'll get good enough to lead a team of rookies but that doesn't mean this is going to be at some professional athlete level, that would be too unrealistic. To still have some awkwardness when you play doesn't mean you lack confidence, the players in the videos look fine even though it's clear they don't have "athletic prowess", they're there for the teamwork.

0

i can't read hangul so i leave that to you

my take from the article was him playing a soccer athlete (whether professional or not, but a real athlete) and by some twist is coaching the SK homeless team.. since this /is/ a competition, on an international level to boot, so they would have coaches.

we'll see when more news of this movie comes out

0

@soapbox Nono, I'm just adding to what you're saying. Nowhere does it imply that his character has a natural zeal for soccer in particular. Maybe he's just athletic in general, as in physically fit since homeless people usually have to care for themselves

Lee Jong Suk puts in work!! He is going to be so busy. I can't complain though. I do miss seeing him on my screen.

Woow I love me some plate full of LJS. And he plays the sympathetic hero with a tragic past with such delicacy and command. I'm thinking this will be an underdogs coming of age type story, and that's really up his alley. I've read the character symposia for his role in VIP and it's really chilling, and seeing as how LJS really gets engrossed with his roles, I'm glad he's doing a sympathetic character right off of doing VIP so he doesn't leave too much of an impression on his audience by playing a deranged serial killer, who is just evil for the sake of being evil.

so it's like he's playing as Heung soo in School 2013 hehe... I miss that drama. gotta find time to rewatch it. I love watching soccer, but most of the Korean stars i like don't like or play it, so it will be a treat to watch him in this role. And maybe Jongsuk won't have a family again in this movie? ah this boy.. his roles always make me feel emotional... just wanna hug him & protect him from the world, with the risk of letting my heart be exposed and unprotected LOL
